I think it's great for baseball.

Dodgers won. I was pulling for the Blue Jays. I love seeing them battle. I love seeing unlikely heroes like Ernie Clement break hit records and all these dudes come through and Vladdy played big. But the Dodgers are saving baseball. It's a question in itself. Are they ruining baseball or saving baseball? No, they're full of stars that come through. They're a great, great team. And I tip my Yankee hat to both teams. Congrats. Two in a row. They're. They're a dynasty. They're starting a dynasty.

[Rich]

And I mean, they won in 2020, so you could say three in that many years. That's sort of a dynasty.

[Covino]

I mean, I count that year. Of course, I'm not one of those, you know, Covid years. Don't count. It absolutely counts.

But it's a little less.

I apologize for that. But don't get it twisted. I. I'm a Mets fan, but I did find myself finding this team so likable. And I said it the other day the same way I fell in love with the Mets as a New York kid in the 80s when it was Daryl Dwight, Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter, Ray Knight. It was a. Honestly, stars. I can't blame my kids. Stars, stars. Like Colin would say stars, stars, stars.

There should be a drinking game for. How many times Colin says stars in his show? You be drunk within the first half hour.

Stars. Stars. So the same way I loved all those characters in the 80s as a little boy, how can I blame my son who lives in Los Angeles? Who's five, gonna be six?

I mean, is anyone really mad at your son?

No, but I'm saying, like, blaming him. No, but I'm saying he's fine as a. As a dad when he's like, dad, I like the Mets, but I like the Dodgers too.

Dude, when I was five, I liked eating my boogers too. Doesn't matter. He's fine. He'll figure it Out.

We got to. I bought him a little Mookie Bets jersey, so we had a good time. Now we're going to go over all the things that made you go, hmm. From the World series, from Week 9 of the NFL. I don't want to be. I know J. Stu from the Gotleaf show hates when people talk about time flying, but can you believe next week we're about to enter week 10? Like, we're more than halfway there. We're further along than Bon Jovi.

We'll be broadcasting live from the super bowl before you know it. But before we get everybody involved, we always do on Monday.

Halfway there, we're like, more than that.

Like I aged 10 years watching that World Series dude.

[Covino]

I'll be honest, Danny, not going to lie to you, because my kids were pulling for the Dodgers, and I have way more Dodgers friends than Blue Jays friends, so I felt myself really pulling for you guys after Kike swung at some trash pitches. You know, you get that feeling of like, yeah, it's.

[Covino]

It's over.

[Rich]

It's not over, but it's over.

[Covino]

Hoffman seemed lights out, you know, and.

[Rich]

Hoffman had been lights out.

[Covino]

I really, in my mind, tough on himself, too, you know, it's not his fault.

[Rich]

I mean, so you give him a whole run.

[Danny G]

We were just praying that Rojas would get on base. Like, hit a single.

[Sam Spotty]

Absolutely.

[Danny G]

That's how we know Miggy. Miggy's not a home run hitter.

[Sam Spotty]

I expected the hit after him was Ohtani. And didn't he pop out, like, just missing.

[Danny G]

Yeah. For the warning track.

You would have thought it would have been the other way. You know what I mean?

[Rich]

But when. When Rojas hit that ball, were you guys in disbelief?

[Sam Spotty]

I mean, he's not a home run hitter.

[Rich]

Did you feel like it was carrying.

[Covino]

Seven career home runs, I believe. Right. Hadn't got a hit in months till.

[Sam Spotty]

I think it was, like, early September. His last home run.

[Danny G]

Like, it's only one. And he hadn't been in the lineup for like 25 days before Game 6.

[Sam Spotty]

And he went in the lineup for defense, you know what I mean, to play that second base to get the guy out at home. If he needed to make that throw, I. But right away when he hit it, though, it looked like it was gone.

[Danny G]

Yeah, because he stepped into the pitch.

[Sam Spotty]

Yeah, because there's other home runs where you're waiting, right. Is it gonna take off or is it gonna die? Like, we see them a lot here in la. Yes, the. The marine layer. But immediately you're like, that's gone.

[Covino]

And did you see what Roberts said after the game where he found out just minutes before he hung out with Papi, a Rod Jeter and Burkhardt. He was telling a story about how Rojas wife Because again, props to Dave Roberts for putting in his guy, believing in him. Even Kevin Millar said, I think Rojas is gonna have a big moment tonight. Like, there was so many crazy predictions about Rojas doing well, but Rojas wife said, listen, mijo. Listen, papa. Tonight's your night. Believe in yourself. You're gonna hit a home run tonight. And I think Rojas response was like, I haven't hit a home run in months. Like, it's not gonna happen. She's like, you're gonna hit a home run tonight. And sure enough.

[Rich]

I mean, premonition or wives just say things to make people feel nice. Like, I. Sure, Danny G. And you know, your wives say that you're like the best they've ever had. And we know that sometimes there's exaggerations.

[Covino]

It's a nice story. There's more to the story. You don't dump on it. I think she believed in it. She had a premonition. You know, we're talking people of faith here.

[Rich]

Like you. Go get him.

[Covino]

He went out there and he did it.

[Danny G]

Yeah, Rich. And our wives manifested getting us.

[Rich]

That's right.

[Covino]

By the way, Dave Roberts, one of the first things he did was he thanked the wives of the daughters. I thought that was so cool because it's so true. In fact, if you missed that part, hit it. I was saying I want to give.

[Rich]

A shout out to the wives. The wives are the players, the coaches, front office. You ladies are the glue, the foundation. And everybody back in la, you better cancel work plans because we got a parade on Monday.

[Covino]

Behind every great man is a great woman. And I do believe that you see these superstars come together because they have great support from a great support system. And I. I think that was really cool. And that Rojas story is a sort of under the radar story where his wife was really hyping him up about it.

[Rich]

I felt so happy for him. And I love how, I love how Dave Roberts became a hip hop DJ for a second. He was giving shout outs and big ups, shout outs and big ups to the wifeys. Wifeys.

[Danny G]

Don't forget, after game five I sent you guys the story about how Rojas was the last player on the dugout steps for the Dodgers after that horrible loss and he did not want to go into the locker room with the rest of his teammates. He was soaking it up. This is his last season and he was super upset. You could tell how much he cares.

[Covino]

About the game of baseball moment from that huge moment in game six though, again, I feel like that fire that they all shared together with that kike double play and his scoop from that moment on, they played with that same fire and I think that really changed the entire rest of the series. That scoop he made in Game 6, the infield in the home run. I mean, Miguel Rojas had a series dude. So many huge moments. We go on all day. That bare handed play, bare handed play.

[Sam Spotty]

Was nice to me.

[Rich]

To me, the thing that gets under the radar. There's a. I have like a few notes that we're going to get to the NFL. Don't worry. If you're a big football fan, there's plenty of time over the next two.

[Covino]

Hours for NFL even. Got some Halloween questions. Some observation. Things that made me go. In fact, Rich, why are we making the people wait? We do it every Monday, but it's a very special World series/week9 of the NFL. Anything you observe this weekend, Things that made you go, baby, Things that make you go.

My, my, my top three. I have three blaring things that stand out to me. Who are you from?

I'm like Spider Harrison, Casey Kasem, Seacrest and Rick D's all in one.

Then the little Casey Kasem who rest in peace. Didn't he used to broadcast from here?

[Covino]

Yes, right here in the studio production room. Like, Scoob, he still has a sign here in the studio.

[Rich]

Didn't he do the voices on Scoob.

[Covino]

Yeah, he was shaggy, dude. Everybody knows.

[Rich]

Anyway, my top three, I thought that that Rojas scoop is so underrated because unless you play baseball, Monty, you played softball. It wasn't a true bounce. It wasn't a scoop where you, you know, if you play baseball, you know to catch that little scoop, that was the in between. Impossible. Like, you're sort of guessing. There is a element of guessing where it's not the short hop.

[Covino]

It was beautiful. It's slow.

[Rich]

Everything about it was like his eye hand coordination. Because again, that's not a first baseman with a little scoop. It's not a one bouncer where it's a true bounce. You get caught in between. And the fact that he did that while keeping his foot on the bag, everything about that was spectacular.

[Covino]

Hold on. And we've all seen it on social media. Two great plays. Kike going against the coach's instructions, playing in. Caught it. Barger not thinking that he was going to catch it. He catches that. No, look, because he's looking at third. He's looking at second when you see it broken down. He's not even looking at the ball when he catches it.

[Danny G]

And he's in a sprint.

[Sam Spotty]

Yeah, he was already. He knew what he was going to do.

[Covino]

Game of inches, every little thing and mattered.

[Rich]

That right there. Oh, I'm sorry, did I say top three? I have a top four.

[Covino]

Coming in at number four.

[Rich]

That was number four. Number three. The ball getting stuck in the wall might be the greatest thing that ever happened to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

[Covino]

Goes back to Kike again, because Kike was the first guy to signal to center field. Hands up. If you watch it over again, it may be lost because it all happened so fast. You see the veteran presence of a guy who's been there before and steps up in these moments. And Kiki Hernandez was a big time hero. Throws his hands right up. Don't touch it. Throws his hands up. And that changed everything, bro. So we, most of us have never.

[Rich]

Seen that happen where the ball gets wedged between the wall and the ground. But Jonas Knox, who I worked with.

[Covino]

Over the weekend, he says this happens.

[Rich]

At Wrigley Field all the time when.

[Covino]

The ball would go into the IV.

[Rich]

Once in a blue room. But the thing is, they tried to do it.

[Covino]

Remember, they found Andre Dawson in there one time.

[Rich]

Yeah, Remember that commercial? The old Hawk is in there?

[Covino]

No, but I've never seen it wedged like that before.

[Rich]

Well, they tried. Tried to replicate this on MLB Network, I believe. And they were like, yo, you could do it a thousand times from close distance and you can't wedge it in there.

[Covino]

That was a freaky incident that really changed things.

[Danny G]

They have turf out there underneath that fence, and it's a tight fit with the fence and the turf. And so people that were trying to compare it to what happened to the Mets back in the day. Rich with the ball clearly underneath the fence, but no, this. The ball just had a dead stop.

[Sam Spotty]

That was the unluckiest moment for the Blue Jays and the luckiest moment for the Dodgers.

[Covino]

I mean, what a momentum.

[Sam Spotty]

That guy was scoring. That guy. At least one of them was scoring at that point.

[Rich]

You don't know if they would have lost any. But I'll tell you what, one run would have scored, and instead of second and third, you got a guy on second. There's. It changes the whole complexity of the game.

[Sam Spotty]

Unlucky in the sense. That was a hard hit ball. What are the chances of it getting lit in the crevice and not moving at all like that is. That was so unlucky. It was such a hard hit ball. It was almost like you should have not hit it as hard. Like unlucky and lucky for spring.

[Rich]

Usually lucky when someone gets caught in some Crevassiers, some crevices, sometimes it's good.

[Covino]

To get stuck in a crevice. Just not back this time.

[Rich]

Whether it's Little League, when a ball is directly over your head, the angle you take, you're not. You're not going left, you're not going right. Like, you're sort of in a no man's land. Kike is not catching that ball.

Zero chance.

[Rich]

My. What I thought was the coolest observation was that when Pajes floats over like he's Carlos Beltran in his prime, like he floated from center field to left field, he makes that catch, collides with Kike. Kique is down on the ground like a ton of bricks. Your instinct was, ooh, is Kique hurt? And then when this guy pointed out on Instagram, I was like, oh, my God. Yeah. Kique in that moment, thought, but I didn't get the ball. We just lost the World Series.

[Covino]

I cost the team the World Series by colliding with Pajes. In this moment, when you see Kike.

[Rich]

Down on the ground for, like, five seconds, you're like, oh, my God, is he hurt? And then he just pops up. He wasn't hurt. You got to see Kike thinking for five seconds, I just cost the team the World Series.

[Covino]

I got it, I got it, I got it. And then he springs right up. Yeah, it's so.

[Rich]

I thought that was like, you got to see someone's real time reaction. But at that moment, I didn't think of that. I just thought, oh, maybe Kike got banged up in that moment. He thought, we just lost the World Series.

[Covino]

And every one of these moments was necessary for the Dodgers to win. And they pulled it off. You know, you had to be the man to beat the man. The Dodgers proved that they're the men, they're the team.

[Rich]

And.

[Covino]

And the. And the Blue Jays were great. I understand the sentiment of people thinking they might have been the better team because they have a great style, a great fight. But the Dodgers are still just a little better, man, because they did all those little things to combat, and they did it when it mattered. Props to Rojas. Props to Will Smith. What? Dude came through big again. Again. You can't really put your finger on. Here's the best part about it. You can't really put your finger on what the best moment was. Was it the crevice? Was it Miguel Rojas? Was it Will Smith coming through? Was it Yamamoto?

[Rich]

Yamamoto doing something that no one does.

[Covino]

Exactly. Yamamoto coming through big time.

[Rich]

He embraced like his old school, like inner J. Japanese warrior and got out there like that is something that is admirable. Like he's, he wanted that ball. But my number one, number one coming.

[Covino]

In at number one has to be.

[Rich]

And listen, he has defended himself since and I feel like this is such a tricky moment in the World Series and will be remembered forever. Your old Yankee, now Blue Jay Kiner, Falafel.

[Covino]

Isaiah Kiner, Falafel. Ikf.

[Rich]

Ikf. Good ball player. They put him in there for his speed. Now when you see the overhead shot of the weakest ass secondary lead he gets on that ball, that's hit to Rojas, you want to immediately be like, this guy's weak ass base running cost the Blue Jays the World Series. If you, if Max Muncie's 10ft off the bag, why is the runner. Is he only 5ft off the bag? He has since spoken saying that all the managers and coaches were so adamant about not getting doubled up that they said, be, you know, be, be cautious with your secondary leads.

[Covino]

Think about it, guys. If you're a casual baseball fan, infield in because there's a play at the plate, but if there's a line drive hit to anybody there, you got to be cautious to not get doubled up.

[Rich]

Which you saw a line drive hit to Muncie in a later situation.

[Covino]

I'm just glad that the coaches, I feel like the coaches have to take more accountability of like. No, we told him not to take a secondary lead because had he taken a secondary lead, the Blue Jays win the World Series.

[Sam Spotty]

What if he would have just ran through it? Why did he slide?

[Covino]

A lot of people are saying that he should have dove head first too. A head first dive might have gotten him there sooner.

[Rich]

Who knows? Because then, you know, we all know from playing baseball as a kid, they always say sliding into first base is not the move. You get there quicker running through. So I, I don't know what the right answer is. I don't think any of us do. I wonder if AI. I wonder if AI, as soon as.

[Covino]

He knows he's going home, he has to take a bigger lead or get A bigger jump there. The fact that Rojas was able to still get his feet from under him. He stumbled and he still got him out. And again, if will. Will Smith. Could have been. Could have been. I, I want to say the goat, but the goat means greatest of all time now. But he could have been blamed for losing it if his foot was not on that base.

In the old school moments that made it such a great and memorable World Series. Honestly, my number one is the fact that you could argue that we witnessed, we were honored enough to witness and my team wasn't even in it. One of the most well played World Series, most exciting world series, top three, at least of all time.

My dad's a 70 year old guy, loves baseball, loves football. My dad's retired. He watches sports, plays tennis, golf, does it, you know, my dad's traveling. He's doing. An old retired guy does.

[Covino]

He's a retired sports fan.

[Rich]

My dad says we just witnessed. He goes, son, I've watched a hell of a lot of baseball from Mantle and Maris to, you know, the 80s, 90s. He said this. He's like, it was so well played. He goes, he goes, how could you not be pulled in? Like, it really was the best World Series.

[Covino]

So we applaud and we said it all season long. Did we not say it all season long? Baseball's popping and it ended so perfectly with the Dodgers on top.

[Rich]

Will Smith.

[Covino]

Props to a great.

[Rich]

I gotta ask if IKF gets that secondary lead slides head first if the Dodgers lose the World Series on Will Smith's foot going up. Do you guys hate Will Smith?

[Danny G]

No, no, no.

Like you, like, why would you pick up your damn foot? Like, because there was a. The foot came up and went down. He's lucky that it went back down. But I wonder had IKF if it was literally when I tell you, you know the still frame which would haunt the Toronto fan, either they lost the World Series by this much.

Yeah, but Rich, would it have been lost on a replay three inches?

I would say more. Six inches.

Yeah, right. When you watch that in real time, it's eight inches. Because we've seen it in slow motion like a million times. When you watch in real time, it was so bang bang, so close. It was so close. And Rich on that thought, something that made me go. And again, we'll take your phone calls at 877-99-FOX. Things that made you go NFL, that also counts. NBA Halloween, whatever you observe this weekend Again, let's say IKF did score. The Blue Jays win. Who gets the MVP if they win? Would it have been Clement who broke the hit record, played like a beast? Would it have been you, Savage? Would it have been Vladdy? Like, who would have been the MVP for that team? Because they bad.

So I'm just so glad because it could have happened. Right. We talked about. About a memorable game, 6 and 7, and for the most part the 18 inning game as well. Here's the thought. Thank God none of those moments because they very well could have. There were so many times where that game, game six, seven or three, could have been determined by a walk, a sac fly or something like anticlimactic. Are you glad it didn't like the fact that it was, you know, a double. Mookie turning a double play, a one, you know, essentially a six, stepping on the bag, three double play. That was a great six, six, three double play. Do you.

[Covino]

By the way, a broken bat, that was another thing. I don't. I haven't heard anyone talk about that. That was a broken bat. Yamamoto stepping up again. But a broken bat double play from Alejandro Kirk, man, that could have went any way and somehow he pulled that off.

[Rich]

Don't you, don't you think though that like, if that game had have had ended in a walk or even like the Blue Jays would have taken. But imagine everyone just standing there and they're like, after review, Will Smith's foot was off the plate. Blue Jays win the World Series.

[Danny G]

That's what I'm saying. It was kind of like how we were saying that 18 inning marathon. What if that had ended with just that sacrifice fly that Call could have got?

[Rich]

That's why we said, I remember telling you, I was like, I was so happy. I was rooting for you. But if Alex Call would have had a sack fly, that would have been the weakest ending to the coolest game. So anytime these games do end in dramatic fashion, you got to say, that's so much better. So much better.

Well, I didn't think they could do it, Rich. You said they would. I didn't think the Dodgers, as great as they are, would go to Toronto and take two in a row from a team that just battles the way the Blue Jays did. That being said, the Dodgers proved that they're one of the best teams we've ever seen. Not only that, they're likable. They're not really that hateable. They're, they're such a great cast of characters and personalities. Both teams, I was so impressed by both teams, the resilience of both teams, the way they both battled. So you have to have a friend or family member pick you up. I was Covino's friend or family member, but I had to fill out the form to release him. And under relationship, it said partner. And I wonder if they all thought I was Camino's boyfriend.

Yeah, Rob Lesky channeling Joe Kelly. But I don't think he was at fault. And it's not because I'm a Dodgers fan. You saw him and as reaches his hand out to try to get hit and then he actually does get hit and had a problem with it. And so you, you could read the lips of Rob Lesky and then they got into it.

[Rich]

To me, what fascinates me the most, Danny G. For real, is that it's World Series game six or seven. Like no one's giving anyone a base. I don't care what bad blood you have in a close game six or seven, no one is hitting anyone on purpose. I promise you. Maybe if you have a seven run.

[Covino]

Lead, that's going to show.

[Rich]

No, but they gave, they gave a warning. And I'm like, a warning? You think people in Game 7 of the World Series in a tight game need a warning?

[Covino]

Emotions were so high. It was great. It just added more fire and fun to us as the viewer. And I do have one little I'll have one bone to pick. Okay. One small one made me say. Hmm. You can't predict how you're going to react when you win the World Series. Right. But when Yamamoto gets that double play, great play by Mookie Betts. Great pitch to get Kirk on a double play. I feel like his first instinct is to turn around and hug his catcher. That's the team right there. And instead he's just. He's showing his ass. Yeah, he bent his back.

[Danny G]

He's facing the wrong direction.

[Covino]

Turn around and give your catcher a hug, man. I think that was, you know, just a little observation.

[Rich]

Will Smith got dissed.

[Covino]

No, it's just an observation. That's all. Because I think they've got such a communication going on. You know, that's the. That's the battery there. That's the. That's the team. They're. They're a unit. I think when a pitcher wins or closes out the World Series, that's between you and your catcher for that moment. And then the rest of the team jumps.

[Rich]

But I'll tell you what.

But it was still so great to see.

Anyone that's ever played baseball, that is one of the best feelings, even as playing, like playing rec softball as an adult. If you're playing shortstop, as I call it, the take, the keep it yourself double play, always feels good because I go, I'm just going to keep this myself. So in that moment, Mookie's fielding it and he's thinking, I just won the World Series for the fourth time. Mookie Betts, four time World Series champion. And in that moment when he's like, oh, Kirk, slowly. I got this. Step on it.

Quarterback Marshawn Lattimore for Washington tore his ACL last night. He's out for the season. Packers tight end Tucker Kraft tore his ACL this weekend. He is out. Texans quarterback C.J. straw remains in concussion protocol. He's feeling better. Head coach d' Amico Ryan says that they're gonna see how he progresses throughout the week. NFL trade deadline is tomorrow at 4 Eastern. The Eagles are making more moves. They're acquiring Dolphins linebacker Jalen Phillips in exchange for a 2026 third round draft pick in the NBA. Lakers will be without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves tonight as they take on Portland. Spurs guard Dylan Harper suffered a left calf and is expected to miss multiple weeks. And in baseball, Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman, Yankees outfielder slash first baseman Cody Bellinger and Mets closer Edwin Diaz are some of the players opting out of their contracts. They're going to become free agents.

The question is, after the World Series is over, is the Dodgers ruining baseball? I mean, how could you say that with a straight face after everything we just watched? We know for years and years and years of experience at this point that you can't buy championships. You could put all sorts of superstars together and it doesn't guarantee you diddly squat. It's this particular cast of characters, this team that they constructed, the belief they have in each other, the chemistry they built and the way they play the game. They may be superstars that get paid a lot of money, but they play tough, dude.

When we agree it's fact.

They're saving baseball because they're bringing everybody in.

[Rich]

The only advantage the Dodgers have that. I'm not saying it's unfair, it's just the reality is that we are seeing an influx of really good Japanese players and there is a want.

[Covino]

That's geography.

[Rich]

I know about saying that's a want and an instinct to want to play closer to Asia going on the West Coast. Yes, I was.

[Covino]

Sam, Monty, was it during Doug show that we. It was at least 26 million people watch the World Series.

[Sam Spotty]

Correct.

[Covino]

So let's.

I don't even know if we're counting.

[Covino]

Japan and Canada, like the Canadian audience. So how do you debate at least 26 million people watch? How many people just, just when you talk to your colleagues at work and you're just talking to your buddies, how many people are like, yo, that was the best World Series I've seen in years. Yeah.

[Danny G]

And to put that into perspective, 16.4 million watched Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

[Rich]

Yeah, I'm listening. Baseball's popping. There's no doubt. And are the Dodgers bad for baseball?

[Covino]

No.

[Rich]

The simple answer is the only advantage it might have is Japanese players want to play there because it's closer to Japan and anywhere in Asia. But that's it. You know, tough luck.

[Covino]

They're saving baseball. They're getting people to watch to tune in. Superstars are on that team. Even the casual fan is like, all right, I guess I'll watch.

[Rich]

Listen tough.

It even peaked at 31.5 million in the latent.

Tough up, tough biddies, as they say. But I'll say this.

Hey, owners, step up when you want to compete.

[Rich]

When people blame the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Blue Jays, these teams for spending money, Giants. We're making it seem like the other owners are poppers that are like, please have my bread and soup. Like, we're talking about other billionaires that just aren't in it to win it. Like those teams are. Pirates is a great example. There's teams that have a great legacy. The Baltimore Orioles. Keep your players happy. Billionaires don't buy teams if you are not in it to win it. It's not the fault of the billionaires who are in it to win it. It's the fault of the billionaires who use it as an investment and don't really give a hell about it. That's the problem.
