So George Springer pulling some antics. Of all people. And we're going to get into that conversation of. Of. Of all people. You should never blank. There's a story about tortured fan bases. We saw one unfurl and unfold last night with the Colorado Rockies. But I wanted to start the show with a guy that was getting a haircut. I'm sorry, not a haircut. A sweet haircut.

A sweet haircut. And by the way, when you advertise your haircut as a sweet haircut, it better look super sweet.

[Rich Davis]

And I'm talking about Todd Monkin, the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He happened to miss the coach's group photo.

[Steve Covino]

Aha. He didn't miss it. They rescheduled it.

[Rich Davis]

And he had an appointment.

[Steve Covino]

And he had an appointment.

[Rich Davis]

He was on the app, the cut.

[Steve Covino]

He's like, yo, he wanted to be in the team picture, the head coaching picture. But he was getting a little snip, snip here, snip, snip there.

[Rich Davis]

Then here's what he said about it.

Oh, I didn't. I really don't give a. I mean, it had nothing to do with me. I mean, they moved the meeting. I didn't miss it. I was just trying to get a sweet haircut. I mean, that's what I was trying to do. And then they moved the meeting. Now, you can blame that. I should have been at the meeting when they moved it up, and my ass would have known that's when it was. Yeah, okay, I gotcha. And was it disappointing? Bet your ass it was disappointing. Wait. In my whole life to be a head coach, I'm not in the head coach's picture. You'd think with AI, they could have done that quickly and got me in there, but no, it's the way it is. It'll be under the bridge. And what will matter most is whether we. How we move from here and do we win or not. That ultimately none of that will matter.

I love how he pulled a you bet your ass that's a good coach line.

Right. By the way, Danny G. Make this clear for me. So again, head coach of the Browns, Todd Monkin, didn't miss the hair. Didn't miss the.

He got a sweet haircut. He didn't miss the team photo. He was getting a haircut. They rescheduled it, but they ended up putting it out without him anyway. Yeah, that's what I'm getting at, though. Out of here.

Yeah, but they put it in a program or whatever.

Okay. Because they could still Photoshop in there. Right. Or use AI but he almost puts it in a way, like, as if he already saw it without him. You know, that's why I'm confused by the story because he's almost saying, like, well, they could have done this, but it is what it is.

So, you know, do they still have the chances at a way to make it right to just use AI to throw him in there as if he was there? You know, that's happened before.

You know, I think there's an old story. I'm gonna have to look this up because now it's all coming back to me. It was so long ago, but it's all coming back to me. I think someone was missing out of a Yankees team picture and they used Michael K. To fill in the space and then just put that person over.

I just remember there's a stand in.

No, I remember him telling the story that they used him as a stand in and he photoshopped over him because they couldn't make it. Now not making a team picture, that is like. That sucks. I think that sucks. I would feel left out. And when you're the head coach, honestly, I'm surprised they didn't say, you know what?

Guys, I have a story that's pretty much identical. I went to the Dominican Republic with my wife a couple weeks ago. Right. We were on vacation, and because of scheduling, they changed team picture day at West Hills baseball. So I'm not in my team's photo. Same level of disrespect.

So the winningest coach in the Valley.

[Steve Covino]

You know what I mean? You're a big part of the team.

[Rich Davis]

I'm not in the picture.

[Danny G]

We have the technology now to just plop you right in there, Mike. Okay, let me tell you a quick,

quick story, Mr. Anti AI.

[Danny G]

No, I was saying not even using AI. So my grandmother's 80th birthday, she's gone. She's been gone for 15 years. So this one, like, early 2000, her 80th birthday. My sister was supposed to make it to her birthday party at this restaurant for a family photo. All the family turned up for this. She was late.

[Steve Covino]

She missed.

[Danny G]

She missed the photo. Everyone was livid. My grandma was hurt, Livid.

[Steve Covino]

Just sad.

[Rich Davis]

But we here, I'm only 81, we

[Danny G]

took my sister's picture and photoshopped her right on the corner. And it looked a little phony because it's early 2000s, but it ended up being like, hey, we got everybody in there.

[Rich Davis]

So did your grandmother say, heavens to Betsy at any point?

[Danny G]

Probably. She was born in 1921, so she probably grew up with.

[Rich Davis]

God bless her. Rest in peace. I was Sam's grandma. But you know, what can I tell you?

Could I tell you I'm glad you said that I was Sam, because that's where I want to go with this real quick. Because Big Mike, who runs this place, who he was very quick to be like, you know, guys, there's a big difference between photoshopping someone in or out of a photo. And I said to Covino, let's say we all went for a sweet dinner, right?

Like a show dinner with sweet haircuts.

You damn right. You bet your ass.

By the way, there's so many thoughts I have with the story. The haircut was not that sweet. I looked at it.

He was the most coveted barber, like, in the early to mid 2000s.

Now it's all about Vic Blens, who he met at the all star game.

So my question is this. Let's say we all go for a sweet show dinner, Danny G. We put on our Sunday's best. We go for a nice steak dinner. Me, you, Covino, Spot. And we'll even invite Isaac. Hi, Isaac.

I'll pay.

And let's just say I was. Sam can't make it. And this photo is a really nice photo. It's our show, right? It's like all of us that work together every day, is it legit for us to be like, well, I'll just photoshop Sam into the photo?

I think so. You know why? Again, why?

But he wasn't there.

You're sliding Iowa, Sam. And it's a matter if you're posting it too. In today's world, I think that's what matters. You know, this would be a team photo for them in real life. It's like, why are you posting it? Because it feels like, well, where's Sam then?

That doesn't seem right. Seems disrespectful.

Big Mike's in the photo. Danny, Spot ever. Where's I With Sam? Photoshop them in.

Yeah.

I mean, the back.

The technology's there. It's much better than it used to be. Spot, our video guy does this often. And you wouldn't even be able to tell. He did it recently with a family get together.

He couldn't make it to his family's Thanksgiving or Christmas. I think it was Thanksgiving. So he photoshopped him and his wife

in it and he posted it.

And I was like, damn, Spot, I didn't know you went to Jersey and back.

I didn't. I was like, wow, that's incredible. Because this next level.

Fugazi did fake. You could do that from your phone in three seconds now. But I do agree with Mike. There is something really different about photoshopping. Somebody in because it is a little misleading, but sometimes maybe appropriate. And Photoshopping somebody out.

Well, you got these tools on your iPhone now. Like, yeah, if I take a picture of my son mid swing playing baseball, and I'm like, what a cool action shot of little Benny. And in the background, there's like, a coach picking his nose. You could even on your iPhone do that little tool where you like, well, guess what?

[Steve Covino]

Android's had that for a long time. Google's been pushing that for a while. I know Rich is so anti Android, I just wanted to throw that out there. He frowns on you guys with the green texts. But I'll give you an example of when Photoshopping someone out is okay. Photoshopping someone out. My daughter, I had her sweet 16 recently, and I was trying to find photos to add to the slideshow, which was a nightmare, by the way. It was a nightmare project for this guy. I'm not good at that stuff. And there was pictures I wanted to include because they were from memorable events. But her little ex boyfriend was in there. You know what I mean? So cut, delete, crop out. So I think there's a reason for those things.

[Rich Davis]

Isn't that why you make the new person always stand on the outside?

[Steve Covino]

Yeah, exactly.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

There's rules to this. If they're not really in the family, they're on the outside of the photo. So they're easy to cut off. And since we're talking about it, I do want to give props where they're due. My dad, Big Steve, claims that he's the official original inventor of what is now known as Photoshop. Because back in the day, when my aunts would have boyfriends or get divorced and so on and so forth, he would just put celebrity heads and cut them out and paste them or tape them on top of the heads if the photos were hanging up.

[Rich Davis]

So Tony Danza was at your Thanksgiving?

[Todd Monken]

Yeah.

[Steve Covino]

I'm like, why is Aunt Nancy with Michael Landon?

[Rich Davis]

Ted dancing was at your Christmas dinner.

[Steve Covino]

And it's simply because that's who was on TV Guide or whatever or who was on People magazine. So my dad, like, yeah, I'm cutting now. He cut out John Lithgow and put him up in the family photo.

[Rich Davis]

Wait, tattoo from Fantasy Island? Is it Easter? Wait, no, that was you?

[Steve Covino]

No, that was lighting.

[Danny G]

Weird.

[Rich Davis]

Lighting is all off.

So my dad used to do that. If you would go to my grandma's house, there'd be all these group photos with different heads on people, like, we didn't want to see anymore.

So that was Dan Summers. Yeah. Instead of your divorce dance before Photoshop,

my dad really used to do that all the time and it was really funny. But the question is, how do you feel about this Todd Monken situation? And by the way, you know what this does? It sets a bad precedence for an already quote unquote cursed franchise. Right. It's like you couldn't even get this right and you're expecting to have a winning season. It just adds insult to injury. Well, it's like, can they do anything right as an organization?

[Rich Davis]

Oddly enough, a reporter asked Monkin, is this like so Cleveland Browns or what?

[Todd Monken]

Winning changes everything, right? I told the coaches that the other day. Right. Or playing well, how does a player stop a narrative play? Well, how do we stop a narrative on offense score? How do you step a narrative of a winning win? It's pretty frickin simple, right? I mean, is that not in life in general, right? There is a narrative out there that, you know, you're not a good husband. Will change. Be a good husband. Right. All that's part of it, right? Change the narrative, become that. That's. That's what we have to do. It's real simple.

I really, really think, though, motivational Monkin. I really, really think they should have rescheduled. I think it was a disrespect to him. There was a miscommunication for whatever the reason was. Yeah, he's the head coach. Okay, ready? Well, they did reschedule.

That's why he had the wrong time.

It's Cavino and Rich picture day. Right? Kavino Rich picture day. But Covino just messed up his scheduling and I'm not there. I'm not there, but you do it without me. That's like so wrong.

That means the better analogy would be

I'm not saying I'm in the right. I'm saying then he probably should reschedule. He's the head coach of the coaching photo.

The better analogy, how's that not a good analogy? Because if it was Covino on Rich picture day and Covino wasn't available, that's a little different. That would be like if they said we're doing a big PC photo, coach of the coaches full time, talking about the head coach of the coaches, the Cleveland coaches, he's one coach.

And when Gottlieb left, the door hadn't even closed yet, and there was a Stu Gotts Photoshop over his head where Doug once was shoulder up.

But they don't give Stugots very much shoulder. Everybody's kind of facing with the shoulder.

He only has the shoulder space that Doug Gottlieb had in the photo, by the way.

It's so funny. It's so funny when you really think about, like, his sweet haircut. And he was all getting ready for it and everything. Every year we make fun of all the coaches and what they're wearing and how they look. Anyway, we had a whole segment on it last year, so maybe he's better off. He gets to choose, like, a photo he's proud of and just maybe they include him in it.

What do we do every year? We joke about what they wearing. Yeah. We're like, oh, Andy Reid looks like a gym teacher. This guy looks like this. And we mock it every year.

You know, it's disrespectful. I feel bad for the guy.

Another lesson learned, Kavito. And I feel like you could get behind this.

If it's a big event or party, I do think it's sort of funny. I get why you would Photoshop your sister into your grandma's 80th party. Okay, there, look.

They were saying if you're on Bumble Tinder, Hinge, all these different dating swiping websites, apps, it like, to what level could you use filters in Photoshop? Because there, there was a very popular video a few weeks back that I remember showing you where some girls like, would you believe this guy met me for drinks? And he's like. And like within a drink he's like, yeah, I'm gonna go. The. This is not as advertised. And she was all like offended. And then she showed her profile picture and her in real life and it really was very different.

Yeah, it's misleading. False advertising.

False. I would say false advertising for sure.

That's not good etiquette.

If you guys are on a, like Im saying any you guys like anyone, you're on a dating website, do you think your picture should only be at the most maybe 2 years old? Like it can't be that old.

I think if that's unfair that the age of the photo is as, is more irrelevant than like how different do you look? Like if you put on or lost a bunch of weight.

It really was hilarious to me. Like, at the time, I was like, you know, we're in the mid 2000s now. His headshot looked like he was from Miami Vice.

Hasselhoff and his people, like, great interview. We'll see you guys soon. And I was like, could we do a quick picture? And I didn't have the time in that moment to grab Carino's cardboard cutout.

And again, he sticks with the lie because if you look closely, the cardboard cutout is right behind him. He's like, I didn't have time.

Right time. It's in the picture right behind me. You thought I didn't want.

And the crazy part is, as you would say, Danny, off here we're saying the circumstances to this is even worse because they walked intentionally two batters to get to Bogarts thinking it was a better matchup and they could try to get out of this inning. And actually, because he hits a lot of grounders, try to set up that dp, that little double play action. But instead, here's the final call last night, Padres coming out on top against the Rockies.
