Jake Hofer
All right, now I want to get right into this. It's the anniversary. It's the anniversary.
Ebony
Well, can I say this too, Rich, before I wish you a happy anniversary?
Jake Hofer
Yeah.
Ebony
We're going to give away prizes this hour. We got the grand poo by the grand champion Dan Beyer there. And we got to compete in last one standing.
Jake Hofer
Can't wait.
Ebony
So giving away prizes. And if we have time, we got to talk about this Portland Pickles stupid story that happened over the weekend because I think. I think I'm the only guy that believes it. And I'll explain why.
Jake Hofer
We'll talk about Pickles and we'll talk about Luca. But right now, the anniversary of a moment that it's very hard to get out of your head when you think Robin Ventura. I think three things. I remember his rookie card having, like, projected value. I remember I need to get a Ventura rookie. I remember him hitting a grand slam single. And I remember getting his ass whipped by non Ryan on this day, 1993. Guy got a knuckle. Sanguich to the noggin.
Ebony
Pretty embarrassing. And it was so uncharacteristic of a young Robin Ventura. He was a stellar Player. How about the fact that he had 294 home runs, a lifetime average of 267. He was an all star. He was an all star with the Yankees. He was good on every team he played for. He was just a solid player, solid defender on the hot corner. But yeah, unfortunately we remember him for getting noogies from an old ass Nolan Ryan. And NOLAN Ryan was 46, I would have thought back then he was 146.
Jake Hofer
I know. And by the way, when you, when you think of Robin Ventura, I think as the, as I believe Dan Patrick will say, he's in the hall of very good. Hall of Good. He's not a Hall of Famer, but Robin Ventura was a staple in major league baseball for a good decade plus like Robin Ventura was a solid ball player.
Ebony
No doubt. And it's a, that's why it's a shame it's, it's not quite Dwight Evans. Where Dwight Evans was a really great player and will forever be synonymous with the error. Robin Mature is a really good player. Yet it's a shame we still think of him getting pounded by. In the head by Nolan Ryan.
Jake Hofer
Were you thinking Bill Bucknell? You said Dwight Evans.
Ebony
Did I say Dwight Evans? That's so weird.
Jake Hofer
What makes you wonder why is Dwight Evans on your minds?
Ebony
Well, he's another Red Sox.
Jake Hofer
With a great mustache.
Ebony
With a great mustache.
Jake Hofer
Maybe that's it.
Ebony
Strange.
Jake Hofer
Dwight Evans. What error did he.
Ebony
Bill Buckner. Yeah, we're forever thinking of that guy. So it's a shame he's remembered that way.
Jake Hofer
And I love the backstory. The backstory. If you've never watched the documentary.
Ebony
Well, again, it was 1993. That's the thing. It's the anniversary today.
Jake Hofer
If you've never watched a documentary facing Nolan, first of all, I would highly recommend it. Go check it out. It's a great watch. You realize what a great influence his wife was. How deep down inside knowing Ryan, for a guy with the most strikeouts in Major league baseball history, he's more of like a cowboy rancher than a ball player. Like the guy played baseball, it's felt like because he was good at it. But his heart and soul is that he's like a rancher. That's what he is. He's a country boy. And to think a country boy ends up playing in New York, Southern California. Meanwhile he just. The guy's Texas, right? And old ass Nolan Ryan at the time, who is way better than 20 somethings now is on the hill. And here's the story that you Learn in the documentary. I don't want to give away too much, but it's important to tell the backstory on the anniversary because we all just picture Nolan Ryan, like you said, punching Ventura in the head, giving him noogies. Right.
Ebony
Like Three Stooges.
Jake Hofer
If you haven't seen this documentary, there's two factors. Early on in Nolan Ryan's career, someone had charged the mound, and Nolan Ryan was a bit timid, like, he wasn't ready for it. And he regretted it. He regretted not being. For being a big tough guy that he is. He regretted not being ready for that moment. So he said, if someone ever charges the mouth again, I'm going to have to whoop their ass.
Ebony
Right? He had this mental note in his back pocket for the rest of his career.
Jake Hofer
Like, I won't let that happen again. Like, I. So someone charged a mound. I sort of looked a little soft like Nolan Ryan. If this happens again, someone charges me, I'm going to be the aggressor and whoop their ass. Robin Ventura is a young player. Robin Ventura does not want to charge the mound. But the sentiment was, listen, if someone gets hit, just to send the message, you have to charge the mound.
Ebony
Yeah. It was established pre game, right. The team had already said, whoever gets hit, you have to do this to let it be known. We're not going to take that.
Jake Hofer
Sort of a young Robin Ventura was like, I don't.
Ebony
I don't want it.
Jake Hofer
Do you think I want to charge him now? That old ass, who I probably admire, Nolan Ryan. So Nolan Ryan is all ready for the moment. Like, yo, if this is about to go down, I'm not backing down. And Robin Ventura, you could tell he hesitates because he's reluctant, because he's a. He's a young kid, so he has to listen to the veterans. Like, if you get hit, you're charging. So you could see the reluctance from Ventura with the aggression of Nolan Ryan, which is why it ended in an ass whooping. Because Robin Ventura never wanted.
Ebony
Nolan Ryan went Coco Savage. Do you remember Coco Savage from the game Matt Mania?
Jake Hofer
Yeah.
Ebony
He went Coco Savage on him. Just hitting him on the top of the dome. It was so embarrassing. You know what? Can somebody count how many consecutive punches he got on the top of the dome? Because it was legendary. And that got us thinking. On this anniversary, 1993, at the age of 46, was there a fight or a moment or a brawl that forever changed the image of somebody in your mind? That fight changed how you thought of that person. Let us know, at 877-99-FOX, it could have been just a regular fight, but on the diamond, on the court, these things will definitely leave an impression for sure.
Jake Hofer
I think there's a bunch of these that leave an impression. In fact, if you want to keep a current, before we reminisce a little bit, Sophie Cunningham, or as Sam calls her, Sophie Stunningham, her simply getting the back of Caitlin Clark and roughing up some other WNBA women. She gained a million Instagram followers, ad campaigns. And now Sophie Cunningham is a known name in the wnba. And I think the origin of that is simply just defending Caitlin Clark.
Ebony
She gained a reputation for sure. It helped her in a big way. And now she's out there calling people out. She's sort of bold on her podcast. So she is leaning into it now. I mean, it's who she is. But that put it on a major, major scale on a major platform.
Jake Hofer
I think if you want to talk about adding to the reputation of someone or maybe Covino creating a villain status. When Pedro Martinez threw down old ass.
Ebony
Don Zimmer, it changed his image. I mean, Yankees fans hated him already because he was a Red Sox.
Jake Hofer
But that's what we're talking about. Moments where you look at the person different. Every.
Ebony
Everybody hated him after that. And looking back, what was he supposed to do? You got some old guy. You know, I always pictured Don Zimmer. I picture him wearing the army helmet.
Jake Hofer
Yes, that. Me too.
Ebony
That moment, even though he wasn't. You got an old guy in an army helmet charging at you, you know, what are you supposed to do? He. He did an old. He did the old Olay and tossed him. Yeah, he's a matador, right?
Jake Hofer
So honestly, Sam, looking back, Camino's right. What was Pedro supposed to do? He did the most gentle thing. He just sort of went to the.
Ebony
Side, stiff arm and just let.
Jake Hofer
Hans Zimmer like a, like a bull, like.
Ebony
But at the time. And it just made him even more villainous. You're right. We're like him and his stupid Jerry curl. Yeah. How could he do that to the old guy? Old Zim, Old Popeye, how could he do that? And we hated him for it. In other baseball ones, Rich. That forever changed our impression. I think it changed his own impression of himself. We always say Bautista was never the same after he got roughed up by Roof Ned. So we got this impression that Roof Ned was some sort of badass that you wanted on your clubhouse. And he was, he was a personality. But we forever in our mind were like, him and his beard. We associate him as a tough guy that ruined the career of Joey Batts. Well, the confidence was gone.
Jake Hofer
Ruth Netto door. You know, that was. That was a moment, and that was a moment where you're like, oh, snap. Like, Bautista's. This a little softer than I thought, maybe. I know it's just one moment, but.
Ebony
You know, we saw what we thought was the bully get bullied right by the smaller guy, and it lowered his stock and raised roof nets as a result. So the. On Nolan Ryan Day, the times where these moments changed your impression of somebody.
Jake Hofer
I got a couple more. I don't want to steal all the answers. I don't want to pull a Sam. Kidding.
Ebony
I got a bunch.
Jake Hofer
Who did Albert Bell level at second base?
Ebony
Fernando Vigne.
Jake Hofer
Is he. Did he get up yet?
Ebony
Of the Mariners? Yeah. I mean, he leveled them, dude. And you know what? There's a backstory to that, too. And Albert Bell, if you guys don't remember, he was like Mike Tyson in a baseball uniform. That dude was hitting bombs. And if you look up his stats, Rich, they're, like, insanely impressive.
Jake Hofer
Yeah.
Ebony
I think the backstory was he warned Veno once before. Like, he warned him like, yo, if you're in my way, I'm gonna knock you down. He do that again? Like, he told his story in recent history that there was a backstory to it. It wasn't like, a one and done. He had, like, a run in and said, if you're in my way again, I'm knocking you down. So he made it memorable. And that dude, he got airtime.
Danny Shapiro
Maybe the. The best thing Albert Bell ever did was try to convince everybody that he wasn't going to take first base when he got beaned.
Jake Hofer
He got hit by a pitch, and he wanted to go for another home run.
Danny Shapiro
He's like, no, I'm not going. No, stay here. I will not take first base.
Ebony
That's a great clip. And by the way, Rich, I did a. Just a little research. When Pedro tossed Don Zimmer, don Zimmer was 72, but he felt like he was 92.
Jake Hofer
Yeah, my dad's 73 and plays tennis every weekend.
Ebony
Right? Like, yeah, back then, we thought he was, like, the oldest guy that ever.
Jake Hofer
Was, like, elder abuse. Let me give you one more, and then we'll go straight to the phone calls. This is one I know no one will say. Well, actually, you know, I'll give you two more quickies that no one will say, and then I'll let you go with the. The Ones I'm sure you're all thinking about.
Ebony
Okay.
Jake Hofer
A guy that used to work on this network, Jim Rome.
Danny Shapiro
Yeah.
Jake Hofer
When Chris Everett, I mean, Jim Everett.
Danny Shapiro
Told me that one more time when.
Jake Hofer
He had the huevos to flip over the table and go at Jim Rome. Are you like, yo, you don't f. With Chris Everett. I mean, Jim Everett.
Ebony
I mean, that was the wildest clip ever. That was like one of the first viral things that the world was down with. That was so crazy. And people still debate if that was real or not.
Jake Hofer
I'll give. I'll give you one from the 80s and then we'll go to your feedback immediately. Danny G. I know he was a West coast guy, but he played for the Reds. He played for a few teams. Remember Eric Davis?
Danny Shapiro
Oh, yeah, dude.
Jake Hofer
He was a badass. He was strong, dude.
Ebony
He was. He had all tools. He was a five tool player for sure.
Danny Shapiro
Do we remember him? We had two full plastic sheets of all his baseball cards.
Jake Hofer
Eric Davis was such, in my opinion, a badass, an athlete. Even off the field, you had the sense that he would. He could whoop your ass, Right?
Danny Shapiro
He got in a fight, he was intimidated.
Jake Hofer
He got in a fight with Ray Knight. Corny ass Ray Knight on the Mets. And Ray Knight, like held his own, in fact, took the first punch and was roughing up Eric Davis. And I remember thinking like, Ray Knight, like Detroit Tiger, New York met with a mullet. Ray Knight. Like, to me, that made me think Ray Knight really was like that tough 80s meth that everyone thought he was.
Ebony
All right, I'll give you one more too, and then we'll go to the phones. Okay, one more because. And especially baseball stands out so much because baseball brawls are always so much fun.
Jake Hofer
You got to talk about someone throwing haymakers.
Ebony
Yes. All right, 1998, Armando Benitez is pitching for the Orioles, right? Yeah.
Jake Hofer
What team was he blowing saves for them?
Ebony
Oh, he was. Yeah, he was. He was the villain in this story, though, for the Orioles. And he hits Tino Martinez in the back. And you can picture Tino going, right, dude, this full out brawl, you know, everyone comes running out, but dude, not only was Darryl Strawberry throwing haymakers, which was great, right? But I expected that. I expected Daryl to be there defending his team, which was awesome. So he just gained more respect because I love that from Daryl Strawberry because he's such a New York legend and it was so cool to see him. He's a big dude. But if you remember, there was a 6 foot 6 kangaroo from Australia coming out of the bullpen named Graham Lloyd, who is a lefty specialist for the Yankees. And that dude came out aggressive, bro, throwing punches like crazy. That Goomburger in my mind was one of the coolest Yankees after that because I was like, yo, who thought that dude was so tough and who, who didn't know that he had his team's back that hard? It was so cool.
Danny Shapiro
Wasn't Graham Lloyd Australian?
Jake Hofer
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ebony
Graham Lloyd, he was the big Australian guy and he was like a big nerdy looking guy. But if you watch that clip back, aside from Daryl Strawberry, he's the one that stands out, that he led that charge.
Jake Hofer
All right, let's go to your feedback. Let's start with John in Minnesota. What's up, John?
Danny Shapiro
How you doing? Cavino and Rich. What's up, Danny and Danny G. What's up? Well, I do like Nolan Ryan. Beating up Ventura, that was fun. But I underestimated old people. They got something in their back pocket for like 50 years or something and it is when they get mad, they get mad.
Jake Hofer
Yo, this is. Well, that's the old guy strength, the old guy strand. I think I've told Camino the story once before. Old people, they also come to a point where they don't give an F anymore. I remember my grandfather, when my grandfather was still alive, I remember going with him to pick up food takeout, and some young kid said to my grandfather, hey, old guy, there's something underneath your car, like your muffler or something's hanging. My grandfather got down on his hands and knees trying to go into his car. And he's like, I don't see nothing. The kid goes, hey, just messing with the old guy. My grandfather punched his kid in the face. And I just remember being like, yo, I guess you get to an age where you're like, I don't care.
Ebony
You don't care. But remember, they always say, especially in boxing, your strength is the last to go a la George Foreman. Your speed, your endurance, your stamina, all that goes. But your strength stays with you. Sometimes it's even better because you got that man strength behind you, which is.
Jake Hofer
Why people thought Tyson had a shot, right?
Ebony
Yeah, exactly. And by the way, NOLAN Ryan was 46, but he was an old 46. That's a 1993 46. And Robin Ventura was 26. So there was a 20 year age difference. And we're still talking about it today.
Jake Hofer
Let's go to Steve Kentucky. What's up, man?
Danny Shapiro
Not much. Great show, gentlemen. Always entertaining.
Jake Hofer
Thanks.
Danny Shapiro
I was going to the old time, I guess, being an old guy. All Star game, Major League Baseball, Pete Rose plowing into Ray Fosse to get the run like it was. It wasn't just an all star game to him. It was a game. Yeah, he annihilated him.
Jake Hofer
Yeah. They've never the same, so.
Danny Shapiro
And in that same vein, Buster Posey and Scott Cousins changed the rules.
Jake Hofer
Yeah. You know, recently, Danny, on a similar play, Chase Utley has spoken about how, like, if he could do it again, he would have slid different. He was not trying to break to hot his leg on the Mets. But Chase Utley has a reputation. I know that wasn't a fight, so to say Kavino, but some of those moments do change your reputation.
Ebony
So again, that's what we're talking about. Your image changed at that person after watching this fight. Maybe they were wimpier than you thought. Maybe they were cooler and tougher than you thought. 877-99-FOX. Because Nolan Ryan, man, it changed both ways. What a badass. You thought. And Robin Ventura, you're like, oh, man, poor guy. How do you erase that image away from your highlight reel? The number, I don't know, number one or two has to be Tim Anderson. If people haven't brought it up yet. Like, you never thought of that guy the same way after he was knocked out by Jose Ramirez. And then you think Jose Ramirez, like, what a badass, you know, you think he's the man. Tim Anderson. I don't think much like Joey Batts ever recovered from that.
Jake Hofer
No, listen, these things are memorable. They stick in your head. What are you thinking about? Michael in Virginia. What's up, man?
Danny Shapiro
Hey, real quick.
Jake Hofer
I remember Latrell Spiro, he got the.
Ebony
Fight with his head coach that forever changed his image in the NBA. He wasn't the same, you know, looked at after that Ron Artest because he just. It just stuck with them.
Jake Hofer
I pictured Van Gundy to be a little cooler when he was like, hanging on the leg. Hanging on the leg. I'm like, yo, he's. Yo, he's there with his team. I always thought Van Gundy, I thought he was a little more baller.
Ebony
Funny moment, dude. You know, there's a. I don't know how famous it is, but we all thought Dave Winfield was a badass growing up. He's one of the only major leaguers drafted in all the major sports. Right. Except for hockey. And he probably would have been drafted in hockey.
Jake Hofer
And hot dog eating. He wasn't hot dog.
Ebony
Yeah, but that's a bragging Right in itself. He could have went basketball, NFL, but he went Padres and eventually Yankees. And when he was on the Yankees, dude, it was like Mike Heath or somebody. I'm drawing a blank. I think it was a. It was a catcher for Detroit. Maybe not Matt Noakes, but I'm drawing a blank on who it was. But Danny G, if you look it up, Dave Winfield gets in a brawl with the catcher of the team and grabs the catcher by the throw throat dude. Like some undertaker stuff. And that dude couldn't even, like, get at him because Dave Winfield's so big looking up, man. It's wild. So when you're a kid and you see that, that's like, those are lasting impressions. Like, it was forever cemented in my brain that Dave Winfield not only was a man of class, remember, he was like the classy guy. He would whoop your ass. That was down to it.
Danny Shapiro
Mike Heath, the catcher of the A's was.
Ebony
I was right.
Danny Shapiro
You're right. And, yeah, I've seen videos of that since I was a little kid.
Ebony
So, yeah, like, you're like, man, you don't mess with that guy. These things, they, they, they last in your mind. And that's what we're talking about because of Nolan Ryan today on this day, one last one.
Jake Hofer
We'll go to South Carolina. Say hi to John. What's up, John?
Danny Shapiro
Hey, how's it going, guys?
Jake Hofer
What's up, buddy?
Danny Shapiro
Not too much. Hey. So first and first and foremost, you know, baseball players are the worst fighters in the world.
Ebony
We all know. Yeah, they are.
Jake Hofer
Yeah.
Danny Shapiro
But. But I will tell you this. The two toughers I've ever seen, Don Baylor. Oh, yeah, Don Baylor was a badass. But the toughest guy on the Mets was Lenny Dykstra.
Jake Hofer
Oh, old males. Yeah. I mean, dykes is a tough sob. And you know, Don Baylor, I believe Disney, like the league leader of all time as far as hit by pitch, right?
Danny Shapiro
He used to step into the pitch.
Jake Hofer
So I mean, like, you lean into him. Plenty of opportunities when you get hit all the time, like Don Baylor. But those are good examples, man.
Ebony
You know, to wrap it up and we'll take your phone calls later on. Or you get this up at Covino and Rich, sometimes you gain a good respect because you don't know how tough these players really are. But like, guys like Bryce Harper, you know, they're great players. But remember when he charged a mound on. Was it Hunter Strickland or whatever? Remember they had all that beef and he throws his helmet at him. There went brawling like it gives him that extra edge of like not only is he a great ball player and a good looking stud, but he doesn't take any. Yes, and that's more respect for me. But props to Bryce Harper too.
Jake Hofer
I well hey, coming up next here on Covino Rich again, you could always hit us up at Covino Rich if you couldn't get through. Always love to get the feedback. Most interactive show but we are going to give away a prize. We're going to play Last One Standing, test your knowledge when you're under the pressure. When the clock is ticking. We'll play next Last One Standing right here, Kavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.

Welcome to Pretty Private with Ebony, the podcast where silence is broken and stories are set free. I'm ebony. And every Tuesday, I'll be sharing all new anonymous stories that would challenge your perceptions and give you new insight on the people around you. On Pretty Private, we'll explore the untold experiences of women of color who faced it all. Childhood trauma, addiction, abuse, incarceration, grief, mental health struggles and more. And found the strength to make it to the other side. My dad was shot and killed in his house. Yes, he was a drug dealer. Yes, he was a confidential informant. But he wasn't shot on a street corner. He wasn't shot in the middle of a drug deal. He was shot in his house, unarmed. Pretty Private isn't just a podcast. It's your personal guide for turning storylines into lifelines. Every Tuesday, make sure you listen to Pretty Private from the Black Effect podcast network. Tune in on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows.
Ebony
Covino and Rich, I'm live from Union, New Jersey right now.
Jake Hofer
Good for you, Coastal. Good for you and your Taylor Ham.
Ebony
Yeah, that's right. I mean it, Taylor Ham Sanguich. As we speak, some pizza later on. Rich is live from the FOX Sports Radio studio. And for over 40 years, Tire Rack has been helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive ship fast and free. Backed by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerack.com tiresome the way tired buying should be.
Jake Hofer
Is there any truth to the fact that you are there to give the third place Yankees a pep talk?
Ebony
Oh, dude, and by the way, if it stays this way, I think they faced the Red Sox in the playoffs, so maybe reigniting that rivalry. I don't know. They're so bad, it's gross. I can't even, I can't even think about watching them later on. But Rich, I really loved our last conversation. If you want to participate on that, the fights in life and sports where your impression of somebody really changed.
Jake Hofer
Listen, it happens where you ever see some of those leaked videos from sets of movies and stuff where an actor flips out, you're like, ooh, my impression has changed of them.
Ebony
Well, dude, it happens in actual fighting. De La Hoya was a pretty boy that no one wanted to believe in until he beat the ass of Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard, until he beat Hagler. Like there's a lot of people that are downplayed until they beat those really rough and tough guys, right? And then these pretty boys step up. You're like, wow, man, they're tougher than I thought. Their lasting Impressions. And today we celebrate Nolan Ryan who was old as hell in 93. He was 46 and he whooped the ass of a 26 year old Robin Ventura on this day, forever changing the impression that we had of both of them all those years ago. All right, if you look at the time, we do it every Monday. Let's play last one standing. You have five seconds to battle for.
Jake Hofer
Your sports trivia life, man.
Danny Shapiro
Oh, I got it. Yeah, I don't got it.
Jake Hofer
Put your electronic devices down and pick your sports knowledge. It's CNR's last one standing. Last one standing.
Danny Shapiro
All right, I have four categories ready to go if needed. A tiebreaker. Each contestant gets five seconds to stay alive in the round. If you run out of time or Iowa Sam will take you out with his big bad buzzer. Not want to hear that. We keep battling until you are the last one standing. If you win two of the rounds, you are the top dog. Here are the contestants. Nine time winner, Steve Covino.
Ebony
You better believe it.
Danny Shapiro
Thanks Rep in Jersey today. And in the LA studios, 11 time winner Rich Davis.
Ebony
Yes.
Danny Shapiro
Have a bigger head than Mr. Matt. The leader in the clubhouse. 30 time winner, Dan Byer. I've already been wrong once today. That Nolan Ryan tidbit with the Robin Ventura. I saw a clip of him winning his 300th game that somebody quote retweeted. But it was five days ago. But they for some reason did it today. So that's why I was thrown off.
Jake Hofer
And by the way, Kavina, you were wrong as well. If the Yankees, if the season ended today, the Yankees would play the Astros, which I don't know if that's any better. Another rivalry for you guys.
Ebony
But then I better stop looking at TikTok memes.
Danny Shapiro
Lots of corrections today. A caller called and said also you got it wrong. The guy that was famous or slighted on the tarp. Mark Burley.
Ebony
No, Ventura did it too. Absolutely. Tell him to look it up.
Danny Shapiro
I'm telling you. The department of corrections called.
Ebony
All right.
Danny Shapiro
Eric in Washington state is going to be our contestant with us today. What up, E? Hey, how's it going, Eric? What do you do for a living there?
Jake Hofer
I work in maintenance and I own.
Danny Shapiro
My own coffee shop.
Ebony
Oh, love coffee.
Danny Shapiro
What's your best selling coffee?
Jake Hofer
Joe's.
Danny Shapiro
What's your number one selling coffee? There's. Oh, it's probably one of our specialty drinks.
Ebony
Before it's drink, how about a nice warm cup of shut the hell up. Danny gave me some beans.
Danny Shapiro
I'm stalling for Spot. He's got all the anxiety over there. He's the fact checker. When I say your name, the clock's going to start. The first category is. Under the big top. You have five seconds to name an NFL team who's one of the 17 largest TV markets in the league.
Ebony
Oh.
Danny Shapiro
Top 17 TV markets in the NFL. Covino, you're up first. Starting now.
Jake Hofer
New York Football.
Ebony
Giants.
Danny Shapiro
Giants. Number one, 7.5. Rich.
Jake Hofer
New York Jets. I'll throw that.
Danny Shapiro
We'll get these tied at number one, 7.5 million. There you go. Fire. I'll take the Rams. The Rams number three with 5.8 million. Eric. I'll take Cowboys. Cowboys number six with 3.3 million. Good call, Covino. Let's do three, two.
Ebony
The Chargers.
Danny Shapiro
Chargers tied at three with 5.8 million. Nice pull, Rich.
Jake Hofer
The Chicago Bears.
Danny Shapiro
Duh. Bears number five, 3.7 million. Buyer. 49ers. 49ers. Number 12 with 2.5 million. San Francisco Bay Area. Eric.
Jake Hofer
Oh, boy.
Danny Shapiro
Three. Atlanta. What do you say? Atlanta. Oh, yeah. Falcons, 2.8 million. Number nine. Nice.
Jake Hofer
Nine.
Danny Shapiro
Vino.
Ebony
Man.
Jake Hofer
Come on, come on.
Ebony
I'm thinking that the Patriots have to be. But New England. So, yeah, I'm thinking Boston area.
Danny Shapiro
Yeah. New England. 2.6 million.
Ebony
Okay.
Danny Shapiro
Rich. Love it.
Jake Hofer
Philadelphia Eagles.
Danny Shapiro
Eagles number seven, 3.1 million. Buyer. Commanders. Commanders. Number 10. 2.6 million. What a battle in this category, Eric.
Jake Hofer
Dolphins.
Danny Shapiro
Dolphins. Not on the list. To Covino, man.
Ebony
Miami's not in it.
Danny Shapiro
3. 2.
Ebony
Vikings. No.
Danny Shapiro
Yes.
Jake Hofer
Actually.
Danny Shapiro
Number 17, bottom of the list, 1.9 million.
Ebony
Minnesota over Miami.
Danny Shapiro
Don't doubt yourself, Jedi Knight. Rich.
Jake Hofer
Houston. Texans.
Danny Shapiro
Texans number 8, 2.8 million. Buyer. Cardinals. Cardinals number 14. 2.2 million. Covino.
Ebony
Saints.
Danny Shapiro
Saint. Not on the list. All right, between. Between. Rich and db. Three more left, Rich. Three, two, one.
Jake Hofer
I'm gonna go Seattle.
Danny Shapiro
Yes. And you'd be right. Seahawks, 15. A long second there, right?
Ebony
I know, I know.
Jake Hofer
You know what I'm. I'll tell you what I'm picturing afterwards. Go on.
Danny Shapiro
All right.
Ebony
Meyer.
Danny Shapiro
Hating you. I'm gonna say Denver. Denver.
Ebony
Not on the list. Wow.
Jake Hofer
Is Detroit on the list?
Ebony
Is.
Danny Shapiro
The Lions are 16 with 1.9 million. And you missed the Bucks. Tampa Bay. Not Miami with 2.2 million.
Jake Hofer
You know what I was thinking of? I was thinking of in those eight.
Danny Shapiro
Seconds that you got in the countdown.
Ebony
What were you thinking?
Danny Shapiro
What I was thinking of?
Jake Hofer
What I was thinking of was he.
Ebony
Was thinking about his next vacation. He had so much time.
Jake Hofer
Hey, I had backups that were on the list. I was thinking of.
Ebony
He was thinking about dinner tonight.
Jake Hofer
I was thinking about if I'm gonna get Chipotle or Chick Fil A. I was thinking of radio market sizes when we were on our come up, like how the market was.
Ebony
And that's why I was surprised Miami over Minnesota.
Jake Hofer
Yeah, Because Miami was always a top 20 market. So that is interesting.
Danny Shapiro
All right, so Rich gets that category. Barely. Second second category. Now, selling. Selling stock. You have five seconds to name an MLB team who has 56 losses or more this season. Starting with Eric this time. All right, Eric, your time starts right now. Colorado, number one. 81 losses. Buy. White Sox. White Sox number 270. Rich.
Jake Hofer
The Washington Nationals.
Danny Shapiro
Nationals, number three with 67 in order. Covina.
Ebony
Three, the Orioles.
Danny Shapiro
Orioles, number seven with 61. Back to Eric. Oh, boy. Three, two, one.
Ebony
Oakland.
Danny Shapiro
Ace. Oh, sorry.
Ebony
Sacramento.
Danny Shapiro
Ace. We'll give it to him. Four with 65. Byer. Pirates. Pirates. Number five with 64. Rich.
Jake Hofer
How many losses you said?
Danny Shapiro
56 or more.
Jake Hofer
Arizona Diamondbacks.
Danny Shapiro
Diamondbacks number nine with 59. Covina three.
Ebony
Oh, man. White Sox.
Danny Shapiro
They were said. Give us another one. Cubs. Cubs. Not unless.
Jake Hofer
No.
Ebony
Come on, you took three of my answers.
Danny Shapiro
Cubs are good this year, Eric.
Jake Hofer
Pirates already said.
Danny Shapiro
Already said. Quickly.
Ebony
Marlins.
Danny Shapiro
Marlins. Number 12. 56. Byer. Braves. Braves, 63. Good bowl, Rich. Number 6.
Jake Hofer
The Angels.
Danny Shapiro
Angels have 58. Number 10 back to Eric. 3, 2, 1. Sorry. Iotta there. Byer. Gosh. Twins. Twins. Yeah. 8, 59. Good poll, Rich. Cardinals, 57 losses. 13. Back to buyer. Royals, 56 losses.
Ebony
Nice.
Danny Shapiro
Nice. I'm a dot, Rich. 3, 2, 1, Padres. Buyer wins that. You guys missed the. What did you have said? Next.
Ebony
Buyer.
Danny Shapiro
Raise. Raise. Yep.
Jake Hofer
58.
Danny Shapiro
And the Giants with 50.
Jake Hofer
That was cool.
Danny Shapiro
Yeah. All right. Rich and Byer on the board. It helps with the standings in front of you guys. I don't know.
Ebony
I'm just gonna wait.
Jake Hofer
Are you looking over my shoulder? Hold on.
Danny Shapiro
All right, third category. Can I borrow a dollar? You have five seconds to name an NFL player who's top 25 right now. An annual salary according to spot track. So, annual salary. Top 25 players, first and last name, please. It helps me. Covino, you're gonna be up first, starting right now.
Ebony
Patrick Mahomes.
Danny Shapiro
Patrick Mahomes. Number 14 with 45 million. Rich.
Jake Hofer
Joseph Burrow.
Danny Shapiro
Joseph Burrow. Number 2 with 55 million. Buyer. Dak Dak. Number 1, 60 million. Eric.
Ebony
Watt.
Danny Shapiro
Did you say Watt? T.J. watt. Watt. Watt. Yes. Number 17 with 41 million.
Ebony
Covino Saquon Barkley.
Danny Shapiro
Quan Barkley. Let's see. Not on the list.
Ebony
Oh, what?
Jake Hofer
He's a running back?
Ebony
Dude.
Danny Shapiro
Oh, wait. Oh, wait, no. This is annual, so shove it up your nose.
Ebony
Rich Davis. Pompous doofus. Always does.
Danny Shapiro
Just out of the list.
Jake Hofer
I just say.
Danny Shapiro
Not on the list. Not on the list. Rich.
Jake Hofer
Not on the top ten. Brock Purdy.
Danny Shapiro
Brock. Number seven, 53 million. Buyer Herbert Just. Number 952.5 million. Sir Eric probably Blanket, but I'm just gonna say Mayfield. What do you say? Baker? Baker Mayfield. None of them. He's just underneath. Yeah. The top 20. Back to rich.
Jake Hofer
Trevor Lawrence.
Danny Shapiro
Trevor, number two, 55 million. Buyer Jordan Love. Jordan Love. Number two. Or tied at number 255 million. All right, Rich.
Ebony
No, no, no. I go.
Danny Shapiro
Oh, you got Barkley. No, Barkley wasn't on the top 25.
Ebony
I hate all of you.
Jake Hofer
Josh Allen.
Danny Shapiro
Josh Allen.
Jake Hofer
Yeah.
Danny Shapiro
It's also 55 million. Back to buyer, Miles Garrett. Miles has 40 million. Number 19, Rich. Three, two.
Jake Hofer
Nick Bosa.
Danny Shapiro
Nick Bosa. Yes. Right at the bottom, 34 million. Buyer Jamar Chase. Jamar has. I saw him. Where is he? Yes. 18. 40. 40.25 million. Richard.
Jake Hofer
I'm having a hard time pronouncing his name. Mr. President, can you help me?
Ebony
Two tag Ovalia. Stop this.
Danny Shapiro
Yes. Number six with 53.1 million. Rich is using Drops in the game.
Jake Hofer
Thank you. I'm that good, guys.
Danny Shapiro
I'm that good. Yeah. Buyer should be disqualified. Jared Goff. Yeah. Seven with 53 million. Okay, back to Rich. No drops, please.
Jake Hofer
Jared Goff.
Danny Shapiro
3.
Ebony
Where are we going here?
Jake Hofer
Justin Jefferson.
Danny Shapiro
Justin Jefferson. Number 23 with 35. Buyer. What about Mahomes?
Jake Hofer
It was already set.
Danny Shapiro
Okay. Matthew Stafford. Yeah. 42 million. Back to Rich.
Jake Hofer
Jalen Hurts.
Danny Shapiro
Jalen Hurts. Number 11 with 51 million.
Ebony
Wow.
Danny Shapiro
Buyer, how many names do you have left?
Ebony
A lot.
Danny Shapiro
Actually, A few.
Ebony
How long is this game going for?
Danny Shapiro
7 left. Keep going. CD Lamb. Yes. 24. Right at the bottom. 34 million.
Jake Hofer
Deshaun Watson.
Danny Shapiro
Deshaun Watson. 46 million.
Jake Hofer
That's what.
Danny Shapiro
Actually, I almost want to wave the white flag for. No, keep going.
Jake Hofer
Dan's like, I gotta do update, guys.
Ebony
And we still got to talk about the Portland Pickles.
Danny Shapiro
Had to go through. Gosh. Three. Yeah. I don't. Oh, Rich. Rich is the last one standing.
Ebony
Dan.
Jake Hofer
Dan, like, gave it to me.
Ebony
Hold on. We just watched One name. Cousins could be on that list, too, right? Cousin A.J.
Danny Shapiro
Brown. A.J. brown. Not on the list. Cousins had 45 million. He's at 14. He missed Kyler Murray with 46.1.
Jake Hofer
Yeah.
Danny Shapiro
Lamar Jackson no. 1 said and Daniel Hunter 35.6 million. Eric in Washington state, thank you for playing and DB with the update right now.
Jake Hofer
What's up? Dan Byers?
Danny Shapiro
Thank you guys. The Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes are 12 in the coaches preseason college football poll. They're going to play each other on Saturday, August 30th to open up the college football season. Penn State, Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five. Browns rookie quarterback Shador Sanders back on the practice field today. He missed Saturday because of a sore shoulder. Fellow rookie quarterback Dylan Gabriel sat out practice because of tight tightness in his hamstring. Falcons gave right tackle Caleb McCrary a two year extension. Spurs at Guardier and Fox a four year max extension with $229 million. And the NCAA senior VP of basketball Dan Gavitt says the 2026 men's and women's tournaments will stay at 68 teams, but they are still discussing on whether to expand in 2027. Guys, back to you.
Jake Hofer
Thanks Dan Byer. Good game. That was always a great game when you win, right?
Ebony
Always a good game. No, it was a good game. It was a really, really good battle.
Jake Hofer

Jake Hofer
I love this job.

And we had a really great, I thought one of our best over promised last week. That's our bonus pod, episode 103. We talked about Sophie Cunningham, Sophie Stunningham talking about how Caitlin Clark is the face of the wnba. She said if you disagree, then you're dumb. So we talked about other things that if you disagree, then you're just dumb. And we broke it down over promised Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. Please subscribe. It's free. I'm Covino, that is rich. And over the weekend, aside from all the Bristol Speedway classic debacles and everything else, Naked Gun, there was a story that swept the nation. And we might have to talk about it more tomorrow. But it involved the Portland Pickles, the baseball team. They decide to do something cool once in a while where they incorporate a fan and they bring a fan into the game. It's like the ultimate fantasy situation. Me? Yeah, you. Kid get over here.
Jake Hofer
And not only did the kid get in the game, he hits a bomb.
Ebony
Dude, dude, this kid had a game. He had a walk. I think he had like nine total bases, something ridiculous. Scored a few runs. Then he gets up in a crucial situation and hits a home run.
Jake Hofer
Well, take a listen to the call.
Freddy
Payoff pitch.
Jake Hofer
High fly ball, left center field.
Ebony
Are you kidding me?
Freddy
Four letters.
Jake Hofer
The fan. The fan hits a home run.
Ebony
The fan. It's a fan. It's a fan. They pulled out like you're the fan of the game. You're in the games. A special, you know, promotion. Allegedly banana. Okay, but this story goes viral and his kids like in his shorts and sneakers in the first like at bat. He's in his sneakers in the at bat where he hits the home run. He's in his cleats. But this went viral and then it became this online debate of was this staged, was this fake or did this really take place? Obviously it happened. But was it fake or not? Because then they end up giving the kid a contract later on.
Jake Hofer
So that's up for debate. So we'll discuss a little bit more tomorrow. Have a great Monday night for your Hope Covino. Is Max Freed gonna stop the bleeding.
Ebony
Tonight for the ankles?
Jake Hofer
We'll see. Have a great one. We'll see you tomorrow. Arriva Derce, baby.
Ebony
See you in the promised land.
