Covino
All right, now on today's show, dude, Fernando Mendoza is making a monumental mistake and ruining the NFL.
Rich Davis
Really? Really.
Covino
We're gonna get to that.
Rich Davis
We be rocking out. We have lots to get to.
Covino
In fact, I wonder if you're one of those lame F1 Soto Yankees fans. We're going to get to that. And just not knowing things. There's some NBA player that I feel like should know something he doesn't. We'll talk a little of everything.
Rich Davis
Are you talking about Magic's Desmond Bain?
Covino
I am, dude.
Rich Davis
Well, I hope you had a Michigan sort of night. Michigan over UConn. Congrats to them, your men's national champions.
Covino
Hey.
Rich Davis
It was a much more exciting game than I anticipated. I was taking. Yeah. The one shining moment. I didn't get emotional, though. I didn't have to be honest. No emotions at all. I watched the highlights. I was like, ah, maybe. Maybe it's me because I know Rich cries every time he hears that song.
Producer/Assistant
Rich had allergies.
Rich Davis
Rich was blubbering. He ugly cried.
Covino
I was not blubbering.
Rich Davis
I heard you ugly cried when One Shining Moment played last night.
Covino
Dude, I'm sorry. You're heartless.
Rich Davis
It's not that.
Covino
The dude on Artemis 2. Yeah. The people in outer space, they dedicated something on the moon to one of the astronauts dead wives, a crater Carol. And our video guy, Spot and I were like, that's a beautiful sentiment. And Camino looked at us and he goes, I must be dead inside. That did nothing for me.
Rich Davis
I mean, I wasn't ugly crying. That's all. I thought it was a nice gesture, but hey, shout out to the astronauts. Shout out to Michigan.
Covino
I thought you said you're supposed to time one little tear when Luther hits the. I try. I try.
Rich Davis
I, you know, and I enjoyed it. It was a Great game. Congrats again. 69, 63, Michigan. And congrats to UConn on a great season. But did you stick around to watch AD's prank show?
Covino
You know, I did not.
Rich Davis
You got. What's it called? Foul play. What's it called? Danny G. But the whole tagline is instead of you got punked, it's you got played. You got played. And Ron was involved.
Producer/Assistant
Green taped it on my vcr.
Rich Davis
Did you? Yeah. You set the timer on your.
Covino
It was. It was on right after America's Funniest Videos and America's Funniest People with Dave Coulier.
Rich Davis
I had seen that show Before. He has done episodes of that show before. But it was the big premiere after the national championship last night, and it was pretty good.
Covino
It was.
Rich Davis
It was entertaining. Hey, I thought it was good.
Covino
What you think? Dan Beyer. Welcome back, buddy.
Dan Byer
How are you, DB Guys, you know I am a big lover of One Shining Moment. Big lover of Luther Vandross. Whoever edited that thing last night should be fired. It was. It was a mix mash of garbage. The One Shining Moment is supposed to tell the story of the tournament.
Rich Davis
Dude, thank you. Because I kind of didn't feel that when I watched it.
Dan Byer
Serious and all. It was. And I'll use Iowa Sam for this. I'll bring him in. I hope that he has my back for once when I say this. Iowa was a big part of this tournament. Like, they made it to the Elite Eight. Their story, they were a nine seed. I think they got one clip in One Shining Moment last night. Tennessee made it to the Elite Eight. There were milliseconds of flashes of orange. Yet what they tried to do is show the band, the fans. Look at this player falling out of bounds. You get that in every game. Like, you don't need to. It was. I don't want to say I hated it. I love One Shining Moment because it's once a year. But the highlight package that they put with it did not hit with me last night.
Rich Davis
I'm so with you. I'm so glad I wasn't alone. Because usually you do feel that. Because the analogy I made yesterday, Dan, while you were floating in your pool enjoying your day off, I told you
Dan Byer
I was at Legoland while you were
Rich Davis
in Carlsbad on the Lego rides. I said that I could watch a wedding montage of a couple I don't even know. But if it's put to music, I'm like, oh, it's beautiful. Cause it does tug the heartstrings. When I watched it yesterday, it felt like it felt heartless a little bit. And it was on the edit.
Covino
It lacked it. I mean, while Yankee fans are saying F Juan Soto, Dan Byer saying F the CBS editing team, it goes to
Rich Davis
show you how important Goes to show you how good an edit is. How important an edit is when you
Dan Byer
look back and there were great moments. Braylon Mullins, three, obviously with Yukon. The Iowa, you know, three that we talk about. How about the Iowa breakaway dunk when Nebraska only had four guys on the court.
Rich Davis
Didn't see it.
Dan Byer
Pretty big portion of the tournament. The Ortega OA3 from Kentucky. Well, just two seconds prior to that Santa Clara hit their own shot that we thought was going to be a winner, and instead it's, let's show the trumpet player. Let's show the fan with the face paint going crazy. And no, that doesn't tell the story of the tournament. They've gotten farther away from it because I think that casuals really are starting to take to one shining moment. And so they're trying to appeal to them instead of the people who like basketball and like the sport. Sport. That's who it should be an ode to. I'm sorry I went off on a rant here, guys. My first point in talking about it last night, I watched it and I just. I. I felt nothing.
Covino
I. I felt underwhelmed.
Rich Davis
I'm really appreciated. Underwhelmed. Same here. I'm telling you, like, I. I felt. We did a Patreon earlier this today.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
And I said I felt nothing. I found nothing watching that. But. And I will say this, and I say this respectfully, and this isn't too grind your goat. That's an expression I made up, Dan.
Dan Byer
I like it.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Covino
Combination of grind your gears and got your goat.
Rich Davis
Yeah. I'm not trying to grind your go or upset anybody by saying this, but as the years go on and. And Luther's a national treasure, and the song is fantastic. It does feel like the song needs an update, though, from when you look at today's perspective of how young these kids are, and that song's just getting older. It feels like. I know it's tradition, but it feels like such an old song.
Covino
It's gotta stay. Come on.
Dan Byer
It's like, I agree with Rich on that. There's nothing wrong with the song last night, you know? Watch it again.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Dan Byer
And I'm sorry, guys.
Rich Davis
It's not the song. I'm just saying it feels old.
Dan Byer
You may not want me to. You'll just tell me to shut up whenever you want. They also had these parts of Iron Eagle that first of all sounded like they were dubbed in a studio because you had one announcer and I blanking on his name starting, like, let's get it going in March. And then they have a dub of Ian Eagle. This is March. And then at the end of it, they have other, like, parts of Ian Eagle talking that don't even sound like they were from a game. They sound like it was like they
Covino
were just trying to fit it into the montage. Yes.
Dan Byer
To try to make it for the fans to cry or to do whatever. And it completely missed the mark.
Covino
Dare I say it sounds like almost the person that put it together. And I hate coming down on them, but it almost seems like they weren't really locked into the tournament and they were just doing a cool school project.
Fox Sports Radio Announcer
Rich.
Producer/Assistant
Maybe it was the woman they showed that was retiring after 47 years. You see that? And they were like, this is her last tournament. And that's what I thought. Maybe she put this together.
Rich Davis
Well, we hope you guys enjoyed it. We hope you enjoyed the game. Congrats again to Michigan. And one shining moment. They still got to do it. We still got to see it. Net was cut down. The edit seemed heartless.
Covino
The ball is tipped.
Rich Davis
The ball was tipped. And there was Michigan winning. 69, 63. So we're Cavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio with a fired up.
Covino
I love it.
Rich Davis
Fired up. Dan Buyer, Danny G. Super producing on the phones. 87799 on Fox, Iowa. Sam is back. Spotty's in studio working the videos at Covino and Rich. Fsr, the whole team is here. The guy behind you with the robotic
Producer/Assistant
leg, don't even recognize him.
Covino
Danny G. You know how, you know Kavino is, you know, lacking heart? Like he's the. The Grinch. Three things that I, I guarantee this guy would not get upset about. The. The astronaut dedicating the crater to the deceased wife. March Madness.
Rich Davis
Not that I didn't think it was nice, but I'm not blubbering about it.
Covino
And I feel like the ultimate test and he won't watch. If this dude could watch shrinking on Apple TV and not get a little
Rich Davis
like, why don't you watch Monarch, bro? That's the show. Monarch, the Godzilla show on Apple tv. That's the show.
Covino
Oh, you're so. Man.
Rich Davis
Yeah, watch that tonight. Yeah, watch that. That's a cool show. Godzilla and monsters. King Kong and all these crazy monsters on this show. It's great.
Covino
12.
Rich Davis
Kurt Russell and his muscle.
Dan Byer
It's great.
Rich Davis
And the main girl, she's hot. Check it out. It's not for 12 year olds. It's a great show. I don't hear you ever talking about that. So anyway, we got to talk about before we play our Tuesday edition of Last One Standing.
Covino
I forgot.
Rich Davis
Before we talk about Fernando Mendoza, because Fernando Mendoza is in the news. Before we give away prizes, we gotta talk about this old guy.
Covino
I love old guys.
Rich Davis
I love. Who doesn't love old guys?
Covino
I think we.
Rich Davis
That's why me and Mike, who runs this place, get along so well.
Covino
Who?
Rich Davis
Mike, who runs this place?
Covino
Is it true that Mike won you over from day one when he gave you a butterscotch.
Rich Davis
He gave me a Werther's.
Covino
Werther's.
Producer/Assistant
It was today when he brought all the Starbucks in.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Covino
Young man.
Rich Davis
Yeah. He's like, I also got some blackjack gum for you. I was like, thanks, man. We're gonna be friends forever.
Covino
So likes, the type of guy probably carries around licorice.
Rich Davis
Yeah. He's got black licorice in his back pocket. So there's this old guy, and he's got an old guy named too, right? Only Errol I know is Errol Spence, the fighter. And this guy and this guy, Errol Siegel.
Covino
Siegel is a Dodgers fan, a Los Angeles guy, 81 years old. I mean, I feel like 80 year olds don't talk like that. 90 year olds maybe talk. He's getting there.
Rich Davis
80. You know what? I've seen video footage of Errol Siegel moving around pretty good. The guy's still going to the ballpark. You gotta love that, right? Like, that's also very cool. And from the footage I've seen, he's like strolling there by himself. Man, I applaud that. The guy's getting out and about 80 years old, still loving the Dodgers. Those are life goals right there. But here's the story, and I mean no disrespect, we say this respectfully. The Dodgers got to make this right, because he's an old guy who's been a season ticket holder for over 50 years now, right? Errol Siegel. And now they're telling him that he can't print out his tickets because he needs to do everything digital. And he has an old flip phone, like an old guy flip phone. Like my Uncle Joe.
Covino
He probably called customer service and they're like, yeah, just download your season tickets on your iPhone. Just goodbye now. Now I'm a little probably, you know, got some young girl on the phone.
Rich Davis
This upsets me on so many different levels because, you know, technology has given. Also taken away so much from our lives. And I get it. Having everything on your phone makes things easier, but it's also a little complicated. It's very complicated for an 80 year old. And I don't mean to offend any older people listening, but even my parents, it's like sometimes they can't figure out what we think are the simple things they're struggling with. And my parents are in their 70s and they're with it and they're cool, but this guy's 80. And I also take a lot of pride in collecting the ticket stubs of the games I go to I like having that tangible ticket.
Covino
That's an old thing now.
Rich Davis
Yeah, it's one of the only. But it's one of the only things I collect, like from a concert, from a ball game, that or like a lanyard. If I happen to have a work pass or a lanyard or a laminate, I collect those and keep those too. So, you know, here's a guy that's dedicated, 50 years of being a season ticket holder, 50 years of going to all the games, 50 years of support and, and financial support, 50 years of probably collecting his ticket stubs and now they're telling him, nah, we can't print them out for you. But here's the side part of the doozy.
Covino
But here's the deal. I mean it's like when you talk about that generation, or anyone for that matter, what does he do if he takes a flight? Does he, does he figure out how to print out his boarding pass or does he put it in his wallet on his phone?
Rich Davis
I don't know how he does it, cuz he's like, all I got is this flip phone right here.
Producer/Assistant
You could walk up to the counter there, Rich, and they'll print out your boarding pass.
Rich Davis
Well, here's the other side of the story.
Covino
What is that old phone? You said that like old people have the jitterbug or something.
Rich Davis
Oh, it's called the, the cricket.
Webull Ad Voice
Yeah, the jitterbug.
Rich Davis
Oh yeah, it is.
Producer/Assistant
Jitterbug.
Rich Davis
Yeah, yeah. My parents, with the big giant numbers my parents had that.
Covino
Your parents don't have like an iPhone?
Rich Davis
No, they don't have an iPhone. For real? They don't have a jitterbug anymore. But they don't have an iPhone. I think they have like, it's like an old guy Android or something. I don't know.
Covino
An old guy Android?
DraftKings Ad Voice
Yeah,
Covino
I guess that works. I mean, I mean, everything's bigger, the display's bigger.
Rich Davis
You sound a little judgy. Like everybody supposed to have an iPhone. I mean, who doesn't have an IPH? Um, 50% of the population. That's why Androids are right up there.
Covino
You mean people that neck and neck with iPhone? People that ruin the group chat?
Rich Davis
I mean, I, I think you get carried away with that. But this guy has a flip phone. That's part of the story. Okay, Flip phone, which means he can't get his tickets and his vouchers or anything there. Flip phone.
Covino
Is it a Nokia or Startech?
Rich Davis
But, but this is a part of the story. So they go, sorry, old man Clemens, I'M sorry, Errol.
Serving Pancakes Hosts
What's your name?
Rich Davis
What's your name? Ebenezer. He's like, my name's Errol. Sorry. Errol Siegel. We, we can't print out the tickets. You're gonna have to figure it out. Byeeeee. Wait, what? So he goes to the ticket booth.
Covino
He's coming out of the booth.
Rich Davis
No, he buys, he's like, what do you mean they can't print out tickets? This is hogwash. He goes up to a ticket booth and like without any affiliation of being a ticket holder or anything, he buys tickets and they hand them tickets. He's like, aha. So you can print out the tickets,
Covino
you son of a bitch.
Producer/Assistant
So they can print the one day ticket. They could print.
Rich Davis
Yes.
Producer/Assistant
But they won't print his.
Rich Davis
Wait a minute, you can print them out. So he went and bought his separate. Yeah. So if they have the ability to print out the tickets, then the story becomes. Then why don't you just let this 80 year old guy have his tickets, print them out for him.
Covino
There's a deal that way he can make where every day, even if it's every game, he just has to go up to the ticket window and be like, my name's Errol Siegel, I'm on a list. Can you print out my daily ticket?
Rich Davis
Yeah. It's like you gotta, you gotta adjust or you become a dinosaur. You become obsolete. He didn't make the adjustment, so I get it. That's on him. And part of our, our talk show on the, on our Patreon is trying to keep people up on things and trying to stay fresh. That's part of the fun of it. Because you don't want to become obsolete. You don't want to get left behind. And it seems like somewhere along the line this guy got left behind with that flip phone. And I get it, it's a tough adjustment. It's not for everybody. I still have family members that use that old school flip phone with the leather case on top of it.
Covino
Oh boy.
Dan Byer
Yeah, I was always a ticket stub keeper, guys. And I never understood like on the back there would be deals like take this ticket, probably more baseball or basketball
Covino
and yeah, get by a 6 inch subway sub and get a free 6 inch.
Dan Byer
Why would I do that for a sandwich? Like I could be holding a piece of Major league baseball history in my hand.
Covino
When they still do this though, DB they still do it for the postseason because I've got, I mean, as of,
Rich Davis
I mean, not all the time been
Covino
it since the Mets been in the Postseason. But when I've bought in season, like, postseason ticket packages, they do give you, like, nice postseason tickets. But a regular, like, Tuesday game at Dodger Stadium.
Rich Davis
That's your proof that you were there. Like Dan Byer said, there could be some value, part of history. What a little screenshot on your phone. That's not the same.
Dan Byer
Jason Stewart and I went to Buffalo last September. I wanted the ticket stub from the game, and we got digital tickets. So I found a company that makes, like, it's not. Obviously it's not a real ticket, but it puts your seat and your row and everything, like, in it, like, with the game details.
Rich Davis
So, yeah, you actually did, like, went.
Dan Byer
So I ordered it because it was the last, you know, the last year of that High Mark Stadium. And I. So I wanted, like, a physical, like, thing to show that. And so I ordered it, and you could enter your section and row and seat.
Rich Davis
That's really cool.
Dan Byer
And then, you know, came like, three or four weeks later.
Covino
You know, there was things we used to hold in our possession. People used to love the tangible touch of something, right? Like, I think it's weird that, but think of for how many years. Think back for a minute, guys. Go back in time when we were all younger bachelors. In your apartment, do you Remember displaying your DVDs and your CDs?
Rich Davis
Of course we had.
Covino
I remember having, like. I remember having, like, cool, wavy DVD holders and a wall.
Rich Davis
Rich displayed his Air Bud collection. You had to display Scarface. That was the rule.
Covino
Here's Mac and Scarface.
Rich Davis
Yeah, Rich had all the corny moves.
Covino
No, but you would display your DVDs in alphabetical order. Your CDs. I remember when I first went to.
Rich Davis
You took pride in that same way with your ticket stubs.
Covino
I remember you moved a few times. And I remember Spot our video guy, him and I had to help you carry, no joke, a wall of CDs, like, to the point where it was brutal.
Rich Davis
I still have one rack. I kept about maybe 5, 600 of my original. A lot of them are autographed, too. CDs.
Covino
He kept only 500.
Rich Davis
But this. Tangible things mean something to some people. And the ticket stub, I think, is something of high value, especially for a lifelong fan like this. One of the things I've always wanted to do, I saw someone else in our industry do this is he took all of his favorite ticket stubs and then had them printed out and put them in a frame. So he had them blown up and printed out all the shows and concerts and ball Games that he went to on a frame in his backdrop of his office. I always thought that was the coolest thing I saw. The coolest thing. Now you're telling this old guy he can't have that. Meanwhile, you have the ability to print the tickets. That's the problem here.
Covino
I saw a cool, similar thing where. Not in a frame. Have you guys seen someone put all their cool sports and concert ticket stubs and they, like, pour clear liquid on, and it's almost like a coffee table,
Rich Davis
but they ruin the tickets with some.
Covino
But who cares if it's. If it's cool?
Rich Davis
Yeah, but you ruined the ticket.
Covino
It's like Han Solo and carbonite. What are you gonna do with the
Rich Davis
ticket sealed in there? Like, you know, like that. Epoxy all over it ruins the ticket.
Producer/Assistant
There goes your free Subway sandwich.
Rich Davis
Yeah, you kept it all those years. But I want to preserve it.
Covino
What's ruining it?
Rich Davis
If you kept it for a reason,
Covino
it's mummified for touch it. Or is it cool to see it,
Rich Davis
but now you can't take it out. You can't take it out of the.
Covino
Ever have it back in its original. What I'm saying is, do you rather have your.
Rich Davis
All right, if it's a legendary World Series ticket, you put epoxy all over it for a coffee table, so it's ruined.
Covino
So if you're like, oh, so I saw the foo fight. Oh, this is Yankees 1996. What's cooler having it under epoxy on a coffee table or in a shoebox somewhere?
Rich Davis
You could. You could make a copy of it or something like. Like I just described. You ruined the ticket. The whole point of having that ticket is it means something. You just ruined the value out of it. So I'm not a fan. It looks cool, but I'm not a fan of that. But how do they make this right? What do you think they should do? Should his family members feel ashamed, too, for not helping the old guy out? I mean, maybe there's more to this.
Covino
How do you not know a guy with. How do you not know someone with an iPhone? And whoever he's going with, does he have one ticket? What about the person he's going with?
Rich Davis
So he's 81 years old. Errol Siegel.
Covino
You got to accommodate this old.
Rich Davis
I think it's. It could be a story, like a great PR story. Not that the Dodgers need any more great pr. They're slaying it in every way possible. But I think this could be a really feel good story. Like Arrow, we cherish your fandom and we're glad you're part of the Dodgers family. And here you go. And he, they just print out all the tickets for him and make it right. I love you guys.
Covino
And you know what? Have Shohei Ohtani deliver it to him.
Rich Davis
It could be a great story.
Dan Byer
There's a difference though with sports tickets to Covino talking about concert tickets, because I think concert tickets are just Ticketmaster, you know, Right. You see like Stone Temple Pilots, Madison Square Garden, and every ticket is whatever. But sports tickets, those season tickets have character. They have. There's different images. I always liked it when the opposing team was on the ticket, not like the home team with like a different player because it was just. I remember having packers tickets and if they would play the Bears, the Bears helmet would be on that ticket. And I always thought that that was unique. So when it comes to like sports tickets. Yeah, like they're special, they're unique, they're very special.
Rich Davis
And what really grinds the goat, as I said before, is being told that you can't. Meanwhile, you know they can.
Dan Byer
Right?
Rich Davis
Anytime you hear that in customer service, sorry, sir, we can't. You're like, I know you can. You're just choosing not to. That's the most aggravating part of it. It's not that they can't print out the tickets. They absolutely can. You can, absolutely. It's just so much easier for whoever's on the flip side of this conversation,
Serving Pancakes Hosts
like, sorry, sir, we can't.
Rich Davis
And that's no knock on the Dodgers. No knock on anybody. It's so easy to say no sometimes.
Covino
This is a beautiful, solvable problem. And you nailed it. I think combined we nailed it. If they printed out the tickets in a beautiful way and had Freddie Freeman or Shohei or someone hand deliver it to this 81 year old fan who's had season tickets for 50 years through the good times and bad and said, you know what, Errol, sorry for the confusion.
Rich Davis
50 years, man, that's commitment right there.
Covino
And that would be the lead. That would be like the fluff story on every local news. It would be on SportsCenter, it would be on Fox Sports, it would be on every radio and PODC talk about it. The Dodgers have an opportunity to really
Rich Davis
do a very simple turn dilemmas into dilemma.
Covino
Right thing here they should make a
Dan Byer
sign that says like 8 runs, 12 hits, just one arrow.
Rich Davis
Dude, that's actually a great idea. I love it. I think that'd be so he would feel so special to guys. 81 and think of how many crappy seasons he sat through to finally enjoy these moments. Right?
Producer/Assistant
So they need to gift him a Dodgers calculator too, because in the interview he says, five generations. That's five generations for 50 years.
Covino
Generations, huh?
Dan Byer
You know what?
Rich Davis
Five decades of players, maybe.
Covino
But you know what? We live in a world where everything is on your phone. Now, just a couple thoughts. You go to an arena now, we've been to where the Clippers play.
Producer/Assistant
Intuit Dome.
Covino
Intuit Dome is now. Not only is it on your phone, you have to upload a picture of your face. And when you walk in, it's like, hello, Rich, hello covino.
Rich Davis
And hello Mr. Covino.
Covino
You're like, oh my God. Like, like it's, it's like next level. It's like, AI, when you go to Disneyland, this is, this is wild too, because my mother in law is visiting and she was like, I want to take the kids to Disney. Take him out of school a day. I'm like, you know what, grandma, go right ahead. But. And she was trying to, dude, that's
Rich Davis
got to be impossible for old people.
Serving Pancakes Hosts
I try.
Rich Davis
And I went to Disney World. I was so lost trying to figure it out.
Covino
All this stuff was trying to navigate the ticket sales and all the little, you know, fast lane passes. And I'm like, you know, Cindy, you gotta download the app and do everything on your phone. She's like, well, can't I just buy the tickets? And I'm like, that is just not how it works.
Rich Davis
You gotta make reservations.
Covino
If you go to Disney World or land, you need to reserve your spot at the park. And then I even told her, I said, if you wanna buy a churro, you could wait in the line or you could order it on the app. Everything is linked up on. You could see the wait times. If you wanna do your fast pass or anything, you, you can't avoid these technological advances.
Rich Davis
You either make the adjustments or you get left behind. And unfortunately, that's what happened. You know, Errol has to take some accountability too. Yeah, he didn't make those, those moves, but they could also make this right.
Covino
Oh, who's the official provider of the Dodgers? I'm not even joking. Is it like AT&T, sprint, Verizon, Sprint, even a thing. T Mobile, whoever it is, what a cool opportunity for them to also say, you know what, Errol, how we're going to upgrade your phone and on your phone we have loaded your Dodger season tickets.
Rich Davis
He might not even want that though.
Covino
Yeah, but I'm saying, like, there's but
Rich Davis
that's a great idea.
Covino
There's like, so many opportunities here where you, where you. You almost feel like you're a PR person where you're like, we could solve this.
Producer/Assistant
Search says it's T mobile.
Covino
T mobile should be like, hey, T mobile. T mobile Tuesday. Don't do that. You're a T mobile guy. I'm an AT&T guys. Why don't they say or Spectrum also?
Producer/Assistant
Because that's a. That's a partner of the Dodgers.
Rich Davis
This is a great opportunity.
Covino
This is above my pay grade. Someone got to do this. But it's. I think it's so solvable. But when I saw this story, you got to feel a little sorry for the old guy.
Rich Davis
That's like, hey, you have a flip
Covino
phone, for God's sakes.
Rich Davis
What do we do?
Covino
He just wants to go to see his Dodgers. This guy's been there, you know, he's seen the. From the. What if. He's had season tickets at the 50s through the Steve Garvey days. He was there for Fernando Mania. He's been there through Kirk Gibson and Matt Kemp and every.
Producer/Assistant
Both Mike Marshalls.
Covino
So we're talking about a guy that's been there forever. Accommodate the guy. The end.
Rich Davis
The end. But that's the story. Your thoughts? And don't let it happen to you. You know, we get stuck in our ways and we hate change. Don't let this happen you. Cause it's only going to get crazier as time goes on. All right, so we got prizes to give away. We got games to play. We got to talk about Fernando Mendoza and more. We have more Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
Covino
All right, well, some people have a Starbucks order depending on their morning. You get a coffee. I'm a big vanilla, sweet cream, cold brew type of guy. Weekends, maybe something iced or fun. Rich Davis

Covino
Plus, you can try new flavors like Mango Strawberry Energy Refresher or the Mango Dream. They're bright, they're fruity, they're super refreshing. And it hits perfectly in the afternoon. Covino
Yo, by the way, not to kiss their ass, but Starbucks sent over some of those refreshers.
Rich Davis
That's why Rich is extra hyped up right now.
Covino
They got caffeine in them.
Rich Davis
And did you hear Rich power through that Starbucks commercial? He didn't even let me say anything because he's so fired up.
Producer/Assistant
He's so wound up bouncing around like Tigger over there.
Rich Davis
I know, but these are fantastic.
Covino
So good. Yeah, this one's really good.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I got the pink one. This.
Covino
I got the mango strawberry one. What did you get, Sammy? This just says gum on it.
Rich Davis
Some Kind of Berry. We are Covino and Rich, live from the Fox Sports radio studio. Don't let employee turnover slow down business. Can you relax there, buddy?
Covino
I was gonna say Sam the barista had a flirty message on the COVID You says, yum. What does that mean?
Rich Davis
That means he wants you. Express Employment Pros finds the talent you need to keep productivity on track. From the warehouse to the front office, Express staffs all jobs. Visit ExpressPros.com today. Thank you, Express Pros. And thank you, Starbucks for these refreshers. And I love your little tie in there, Sam. She's got a ticket to ride. You know, that's it. Ticket. You know who doesn't have a ticket? Errol Siegel. Siegel. John Lovitz has a ticket, but no tickets for Errol Siegel. Let's make it right. And I think it's our duty as younger, somewhat younger people to, you know, help the old people along here. So we're fighting the fight for this guy Errol, until the Dodgers make it right. And I'm sure they will.
Covino
You're never gonna get one of your parents to convert a hundred percent to modern technology. My dad's got an iPad. Oh, he's got an iPhone. He has all his streaming stuff set up. But one thing my dad, I think will never do is if we're like, you know, making a bet on something or you wagering. I'm like, dad, Venmo me or Zell me. I'll send you a check. I'm like, send me a check.
Rich Davis
No, my dad. I mean, I can't get everyone to do everything. I believe that cash is king in a lot of ways still, but it doesn't hit the same as it used to. My dad is all about cash. Hey, yeah, I gave him 500 in cash. Well, I'm like, dude, I don't know, man. Why don't you just. Yeah, they don't Venmo. Some people don't Venmo.
Covino
Sometimes workers, if you're getting worked out of your house or little errands here and there, that's when it gets. They will give you a little deal for cash. However, I've had people work on my house, and I'm like, you guys want cash? And like, no, you can sell event Mommy. Like, I think it's.
Rich Davis
Plus, a lot of the weenials don't even know how to give back change. So when you give them cash, they don't know what to do with it.
Fox Sports Radio Announcer
It's true.
Rich Davis
So we actually have a phone call about this ticket situation. If you just joined us. We're Kavino and Rich and we're gonna do last one standing the show, Dan Byers here, the champion, Danny G. Sam spots here, last one standing for prizes, plus Fernando Mendoza. But this old dude, 50 year season ticket holder for the Dodgers, Errol Siegel, was told that, well, we can't print your tickets, sir. And he can't do anything with his flip phone, so he's sort of screwed. But then he realized they actually do still print tickets, so why can't they make this happen? It's become a big story. So your thoughts? We'll take a quick phone call and move on. Who do we got, Daniel?
Producer/Assistant
Yeah. None other than Matt and SoCal.
Covino
We were saying also how the Dodgers have such a great opportunity, whether it's through, like their partnership with T Mobile or have one of their big star players hand this guy tickets. Like, I think there's an opportunity here.
Producer/Assistant
Yeah, Spectrum does mobile phones as well.
Rich Davis
Whoa.
Covino
What's up, man?
Caller/Listener
Guys, as always, natural content backed by sincere bs. Again, the voice impersonations kill me. Whether it's the old guy or someone who's female, just like how you just. Guys casually cut into that, in and out of that, and they all sound like they're the same person.
Covino
Thank you.
Rich Davis
I appreciate the comment and the compliment. But you know what's wild to me is that it's radio. How are we, like, one of the only shows that do that?
Covino
Yeah, like.
Rich Davis
Like it's radio.
Covino
Theater of the mind. Right.
Rich Davis
Danny G has Old Guy shooting in the background. If you listen real close.
Caller/Listener
And then I just imagine, like, whoever does the female part, one of you guys are like actually motioning your hands and so on and so forth.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
Again, to me, like, I would think there's a certain age limit of someone for someone like this. Like, just print out one of those classic ticket books, you know, and you guys talk about Dan. But I brought it up like, there's something special about having that kind of ticket. Like for instance, my. My pops. Like, if you look at all the programs that of games that we went to, like, you open it up, you'll only. You'll find out a cutout article the newspaper, but you'll also find out find the ticket stub in there. So I think there's just the classic nostalgia you can get behind. And I think a franchise like the Dodgers or any franchise with an older fan like this, just do something special for them.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Now I know there's. There's a lot of significance to the actual ticket stub. For that game. But who was it, Rich? We had a friend that had. It was like an ex something, an ex pro of something. And he had like a. Like a. A lifetime pass for something. Do you remember that?
Covino
The baseball players get that.
Rich Davis
They get their life.
Covino
They get a gold.
Rich Davis
Maybe they give this dude the lifetime.
Serving Pancakes Hosts
But who did we.
Rich Davis
Was it Joe Bimal? Who was it, buddy?
Covino
By myself.
Rich Davis
Was it.
Covino
Yeah, so I saw, I saw. I think it was someone recently just
Rich Davis
give him one sort of thing and say, here dude, this is what gets you in and out.
Covino
You know what I saw? I saw Big Cat from barstool recently asked Chase Utley if that's true. And Utley I think showed him like before.
Rich Davis
I've seen or we've met somebody that had it.
Covino
If you don't know. We're talking about if you played in the big leagues, apparently there's a gold card you get where you could walk up to the ticket booth of any game at any time and you get two tickets for free for the rest of your life.
Rich Davis
That's not just an urban legend, that's for real. So I'm sure they could work something out for this dude who has season tickets. But at the same time I'm sure they could also print them out. Now we gotta talk Fernando Mendoza before last one standing no doubt is a big story about him. But first an update from the great Dan by db.
Dan Byer
Guys, some action going on on the Diamonds right now in Queens. The Mets are on top of the Diamondbacks by a score of two. Auction because two two
Covino
bases load of two out double. So they tied it up. Sorry db.
Dan Byer
Yeah, no, that's all right. It was two nothing and now it's two two. Mets had that two nothing lead heading into the top of the fifth. But the Diamondbacks now have just evened it up. The White Sox lead the Orioles by a score of 2 to 1. That's in the eighth inning on Chicago south side today in Cleveland.

Covino

Dan Byer
The one guy loved that joke. Rory's going to tee off Thursday as the defending champion at 10:31 Eastern Time at Augusta, playing with Cameron Young and 18 year old US Amateur champ Mason Howell. Guys back, thank you. Actually, you know what? I got two other things to tell you about. First of all, does your afternoon need a boost?

Covino
Yeah, Starbucks is on something. I'll tell you what, because I'm always a coffee guy, I've never had one of these drinks at Starbucks. I'm always like, I have a cold brew. These are in the rotation.
Dan Byer
There it is. Added to the rotation in April, fitting with baseball and Dawn Staley says she spoke with Gino Oriyama says, all right, it's time to move past what happened with the handshake ordeal at the Final Four. Now back to you guys.
Covino
Well, how about now back to browser Bond gave up another blue pit. Mets are now down 3, 2. And all those runs are going to be charged to Peralta, who had a pretty decent start. So there you go.
Rich Davis
Oh man, I'm so sorry, Rich. Why don't you cry about it?
Covino
You know what? Why don't you cry like Yankee fans about Soto we'll get to that. We'll get to Mendoza and a bunch Coming up, we got CNR right here on Fox Sports Radio now.

We got to talk about Fernando Mendoza. Congrats again to Michigan and everyone who participated in the tournament. Yeah, the one shining moment montage was a little whack, but other than that, great game last night. Again, Michigan played a. Played a great game. 69, 63. Fernando Mendoza announced today that he won't be attending the NFL draft in Pittsburgh. Now, no offense to Pittsburgh.
Covino
Been there.
Rich Davis
Lovely. But you know what else is cool? Miami and you also cool there? The fact that his whole family is there. He's a Cuban dude, you know, pumped. Cubans in Miami are about Fernando Mendoza. And not only that, Fernando Mendoza not only tight with his family, his close knit family, but there's generations of Mendozas. There was a story a few months ago that every four years or so it's like a world cup. The Mendozas get together for a family reunion and there's like over 800 something. Ridiculous. Yeah, I'm improving now, but I think there was like 800 Mendozas.
Covino
It was. It was 8,000.
Rich Davis
No, no, no.
Producer/Assistant
The number was 800.
Rich Davis
It was right, Because I saw there was an overhead picture. They have to take a drone photo to fit all the Mendozas. You don't think that's great of a party to be with all the Mendozas in Miami than to be there with a bunch of strangers in Pittsburgh?
Covino
That's at least a couple hundred people asking him for a loan.
Rich Davis
Well, that's. And there's a lot of people saying,
Covino

This is absurd. Ah, it's terrible. And I'll explain exactly why. I think. I think Fernando Mendoza, you know what we're witnessing here, which is fantastic. His first misstep.

I disagree.

I think.

Podcast: The Dan Patrick Show (via iHeartPodcasts/Dan Patrick Podcast Network)
This episode is hosted by Covino and Rich (C&R), subbing in for Dan Patrick, and delivers their trademark blend of comedy, sports, and light-hearted banter. With producer Dan Byer and the rest of the Fox Sports Radio team, the crew dives into:
[03:05] – [09:50]
[11:17] – [27:56]
[33:11] – [36:15], [45:45] – [46:48]
[47:33] – [49:56]
This C&R episode on The Dan Patrick Show is a mix of hilarious gripes about sports traditions, heartfelt commentary on nostalgia, and sharp observations on society’s relentless push toward digital life. The saga of Errol Siegel—who just wants his paper Dodgers tickets—resonates as a microcosm of the generational and cultural shifts facing sports fans. The crew’s banter is as entertaining as their sports insights, making for an episode that balances seriousness with levity and nostalgia with progress.
