Gary Myers, great author, has another book out, it's Brady versus Belichick. He'll join us in the second hour of the program. 877-3-DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP show operator Tyler sitting by yet a double header last night. Tampa Bay beats Houston late. And that's back to back games for Baker Mayfield Jr. III. Leading a game winning drive. Chargers handled the Raiders 20 to nine. But the bigger story was the man in the booth. Who is the man in the booth? That's Tom Brady. We'll talk about that coming up. Injuries to quarterbacks. Happens every year. Really. It's a, a game of attrition. Can you hold on? And if your quarterback gets banged up, who is your backup quarterback? And here we go. Joe Burrow, J.J. mcCarthy, maybe Jaden Daniels, all set to miss some time. And their teams are now trying to figure out we got to keep our playoff expectations here. And now you have to start to look at your backup quarterbacks. Jake Browning is going to play for the Bengals. I talked to somebody yesterday who's in that circle and they said that the Bengals probably aren't going to kick the tires on any other quarterback. I suggested, you know, Kirk Cousins, is that a possibility? And they said no. Or this person said no. And I Don't know if there's somebody else out there. I think they have confidence in Jake Browning is what I'm taking from that. They didn't say that, but I'm taking that, that they feel good about Jake Browning. He's had some playing time, he knows the system. Now the question is, you hold on for dear life for three months. Carson Wentz, come on down. Carson Wentz, he used to be a thing. His first couple of years he was an MVP candidate. He was probably winning the MVP until he decided to take on a couple of Rams tacklers and blew out his knee and was never the same. He's bounced around now he's going to be in for J.J. mcCarthy, Jaden Daniels, we're not sure. Justin Fields, concussion protocol. We're only two weeks into the season. That's why having that backup quarterback, if, if you're a fan of a team, do your homework and find out who your backup quarterback is. Because look at the Niners. I don't think they're losing much. Mac Jones being in there as opposed to Brock Purdy. I don't think there's a, you know, big difference between the two. Jimmy Garoppolo, you know, another backup quarterback, high end backup quarterback. You know, you have the Falcon situation where you do have Kirk Cousins, you know, Penix has played pretty well, but Kirk Cousins is there and that's probably the best high end backup quarterback you can have and you're certainly spending a lot of money on that. All right, Seaton poll question from the first hour of the program is, well.
B
We got a couple options here. 0 and 2 team that will make the playoffs.
A
Okay.
B
We have many, many options here.
A
Unfortunately this is a tradition, a time honored tradition of the Tuesday after the Monday night games, Week two, the Owen two teams.
B
Accurate.
A
Okay.
B
So the, we can start in the AFC if you want. So we can categorize this a little bit. We have Jets, Dolphins, Chiefs, Browns, Texans, Titans. That's a wide array of teams right there.
A
Anybody not picking the Chiefs in here? Although Seaton, Seaton doesn't think they're making the playoffs.
B
Okay, I'm riding with that.
A
Okay. Texans. Boy, that's a weird, I don't know, it's a weird feeling because it, it felt like we got our guy, we got our quarterback, we got our coach, we got some defensive players, a couple of skilled position players. Now they got a couple injuries there with Mixon and Dell and you're in a win winnable division as they've proven. But CJ Stroud last night did not look crisp. Did not. He looked choppy. Little choppy.
C
Well used.
A
Yeah, he looked choppy. That's a game you gotta win. And give credit to Tampa Bay because their offensive line was decimated. Baker Mayfield played great. And what he does that I love seeing is he's not a guy where there's pressure and he starts to. Where he starts roll out. Right. He steps up in the pocket. A not a big guy, not a tall guy, but he steps up. They, you know, he climbs up into the pocket. And he is very decisive. He's not athletic, but he's decisive. And I love that element about my quarterback. I don't want you going. I don't. He's like, okay, no, no. Boom. And he was third option with the first touchdown pass that was, you know, highlighted. Troy Aikman mentioned that it was like, boom, boom, boom. And you've got to be decisive back there. So the Texans watching them, that's a game you have to win. You're at home. You got to win that game. So I would say I still have my money on the Chiefs. Texans in the on deck circle with that.
B
It kind of feels like, yeah, after the Chiefs and maybe the Texans, it kind of really drops off that list though. I have a hard time seeing any of those teams make the playoffs.
A
Baker Mayfield with the touchdown pass, 59 seconds to go. The first Bucks quarterback to open a season with game winning drives in consecutive games since 1980. Doug Williams. Tampa Bay opened up two zero and that's the fifth consecutive of year. They've started out two zero. What other poll questions do you have there? See no counter.
B
Well, we've got to finish this one because we haven't even gotten to the NFC yet.
A
Oh, okay.
B
Less options there, though. Okay, your NFC options for 02 team that will make the playoffs. Giants, Bears, Panthers, Saints.
A
So I have to pick one, I guess. Okay, so you have to, I think, are we going to split it with the AFC team and the NFC team? Just incorporate a couple extra teams in there and make it interesting because really nobody on that list. You're not taking anybody on that list. Feels. Is it over in Chicago already after two weeks?
C
Of course it is.
A
It just feels like everybody kind of came out of nowhere. It's like this is over. Yeah. You know, this is a bad marriage between quarterback and coach. All right, hold on to those thoughts for the next 15 games. We'll see. Caleb Williams I didn't think was the problem. Caleb Williams, I thought looked okay in that game. The defense didn't look Good at all. That's where I'd start. Ben Johnson is an offensive coordinator who's now a head coach. I. I'm going to expect Caleb Williams to improve what you need. And this is the hard part. When you were athletic in college and now you're being asked, don't be as athletic, step up in the pocket, play more like Jared Goff does and I can coach you, but if you continue to try to scramble out of trouble, then it's not going to work. It doesn't work for any quarterback if that's the case, because unless you're Lamar or Josh Allen and there aren't any other ones like that, you can't escape. You know, Joe Burrow's athletic. Joe Burrows down for the next three months. Jaden Daniels athletic as anybody. He might not be able to play this next week with his knee injury. Step up in the pocket, trust your team and be able to throw. Be able to throw and be decisive. Those are the would be the advice that I would be giving my young quarterback. And I'm sure Ben Johnson is saying that, Caleb, this in usc. You're not going to escape the pressure. And the more you run around, the more likely it is you either get sacked or you throw in an interception. Let's live to, you know, call another play here. But I still expect the Bears to be dangerous. Well, they might be dangerous. I'm not ready to move on to next year because Paulie's like, you know, head down a little bit. And I said, hey, come on, come on, come on, little buckaroo. Keep your head up.
C
Well, I'm not jumping off cliffs and saying Ben Johnson will be a failure like some.
A
Yeah, well, it's a hot take. Piping hot. What else do you have? Se.
B
Let's see.
A
All right.
B
Yeah. So we had Giants, Bears, Panthers, Saints. Now, the flip side of that poll question, as we always do, the 2.0team that won't make the playoffs, they're currently 2 0, but they won't make the playoffs. This is NFC heavy, AFC light, so.
A
You have to be at least 2.0correct.
B
To qualify for this poll question. Yes.
A
How about we save this one? I'm going to save this one. I want to save the Tom Brady in the coaching booth last night. Oh, brother. They didn't even try to hide the fact they're showcasing Tom last night. He's there with Chip Kelly headset on. Oh, boy. Yes, Paul.
C
Tom could have put a Raiders hat on and a Raiders hoodie. He's wearing a shirt and tie and it looks like a superstar.
A
Yeah, he probably had makeup on. You know, he's just sitting there looking great and he's got his headset on.
C
Next to four dudes who are wearing the same exact thing. Headsets, hat, hoodie.
A
We'll get to that coming up as well.
C
Yes, Paul, I have a poll off last night's winners. Which team feels more Super Bowlish? The Chargers or the Buccaneers?
A
Buccaneers. Buccaneers. Their division. They've won the division even with a banged up offensive line. Godwin's not back yet. And they win that game on the road. I would say them. Now, I expected the Chargers to win last night against the Raiders, and I was surprised that the Raiders did not put up a good fight. And Geno threw three interceptions. Ashton Genty is getting used to NFL speed, by the way. Like, I'm watching and I'm going, you know, at Boise State, they might have broken a couple of those tackles, but all of a sudden, those defensive linemen or those edge rushers, they can catch you. And so can the defensive backs and the linebackers as well. And I'm going, oh, boy, you're watching somebody in real time understand NFL speed versus college speed. Now, do I still think he'll be a very good running back? Yes, I do. I do. But this is where, hey, there was a hole here like a second ago. Where'd it go? That's the NFL. When you throw a pass, man, you were, oh, wait, he's not opening. That's the NFL. College. It's like, man, there's a hole here. You're throwing a pastor wide receiver. He's wide, wide, wide open. That's the difference. Yes, Marvin. Yeah. In the NFL, NFL receivers, they're wide open. Is. I have a step on this guy. Yeah. College. I have eight steps on him. It's a whole different ball game, Ashton. Jetties learning the hard way. You have to throw somebody open in the NFL. In college, you rarely have to do that. It's. There's a window here, there's a small. It just closed. It's that quick. That's why you got to be decisive. When you see these quarterbacks and when you go through your progressions, your progressions are split second. It's like, snapshot, no snapshot, no boom. Miller in the corner of the end. Like, it's that quick. But that's the amazing part of those who do it slow the game down. I don't know how they do it, but in every sport, the great ones will tell you, including the great one himself. He said the game slowed. He saw the game differently. Montana talked about how he saw the game differently, but it takes a while to understand what am I looking at. I think we've all gone to an art exhibit and we go, I don't know. And then somebody else comes in and goes, that ROTHKO, I mean, that's $50 million. And I go, I could have painted that. That's what it is to be a quarterback in the NFL. It's like there's something there. There is, yes. Being able to find it, how quickly you find it, that's what your success and failure kind of hinges on. All right, just getting started. We come back, the Chargers handling the Raiders. No surprise there. Tom Brady in the coaching booth. A little surprise there. We'll talk about that in the conflict of interest question mark. All of our phone lines are busy. 877 3DP show operator Tyler sitting by, got our play of the day coming up. The the old conflict of interest came up again last night. Now, I've made my opinion public. I've let it be known. I don't think that it helps anybody that now I understand the NFL is in the entertainment business and they want Tom Brady involved. He's a minority owner of the Raiders. They also want him in there as an analyst for Fox. And I was like, okay, this is going to be a conflict of interest at some point, but if the owners are okay, the commissioner's okay, teams are okay, then all right, I'll be okay with it. And then last night I see Tom, he's in the coach's booth. He's there helping Chip Kelly, the offensive coordinator. He's got a headset on. And I'm thinking, okay, let me look at Tom's schedule here coming up just in case there's a conflict of interest. Like he would be doing a game and then that team would be playing the Raiders. Well, he's got the Cowboys and The Bears, and then the Bears play the Raiders. That's a direct conflict of interest right now. Can he do his job for Fox while being the minority owner of the Raiders when he goes in to talk to Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams? Because his job is to glean information. His. His job is to. And this is what happens in those production meetings. The coaches and players, they'll tell you things, but they're asking you, you can't use this. Don't use this until game day. In. In the flow of a game, it's really the un. You know, it's unspoken embargo on information. Well, if you're the Bears and Tom Brady comes in knowing you play the Raiders the following week, then how forthcoming are you? So then Tom's not able to do his job for Fox. If the NFL wants him in there, great. I get it. But, you know, on the surface, it doesn't look good that he's in there with a headset on next to the offensive coordinator. And the fact that they're blatant, they didn't hide it. You know, Tom's not in the corner. He's not wearing sunglasses and a hat, a hoodie, but it's just not a good look. And Tom has to do his job for Fox. They're paying him $37 million a year. And, you know, maybe it's not that big a deal. I've had, you know, former quarterback saying, you know, he's going to find out that information. He said, okay, he doesn't have to go to production meeting now. He wasn't allowed to go to practices. You know, now all of a sudden, it's like, yeah, well, you know, the NFL kind of scoots along and says, yeah, we'll take a little bit of a hit here, little PR hit, but that's okay. We still want Tom there. And I understand that. It just. It feels wrong. There's a conflict of interest. Now, we did reach out to everybody, the commissioner. We also reached out to Fox to see if maybe, you know, somebody there but their NFL coverage, because it might hurt their coverage a little bit. Yes. Marvin, do you think people would be in an uproar if he was sitting in the owner. Owner's box a la Robert Craft or Jerry Jones? I wouldn't have as much of a problem with that that I did with him being in the coach's booth. He's. He's directly. Now, he should have helped out Geno Smith a little more, but that's different. That's different owners, okay? He's Just, he's there. He's minority owner. All right. You know, having a cocktail and, you know, chatting up with Mark Davis, this. You got the headset on. How would you feel if he was on the sidelines with a headset on? I might as well be. And I know maybe this isn't a big deal. Maybe it's not. I just. I don't like the look of this. Yes, Martin. I think it would be a bigger deal if they won. Probably so. Probably so. Yes. Todd. I think it's also exacerbated by the fact that you're talking about a sport that's just got 17 games and one game could be the difference, or one piece of information in a home game or a playoff spot altogether. If there's some game in June in baseball, a Cub Brewer series, and he's in the Cubs booth or whatever, and he owns whatever, you know, part of the Pirates, whatever. That's the fact that there's just so few games that could possibly be an outcome that could affect things later on. Yeah. Yeah, Paul.
C
And for it to not be a conflict of interest, you had to believe that Tom Brady would gather information from whatever team and not bring it back to the Raiders coaching staff. Of course he would, because otherwise he's not giving the Raiders their full value and vice versa. Fox, now, they're going to have him go into production meetings, and those teams are going to be hesitant to give Brady anything, especially if they're on the schedule upcoming. So now he's three quarters of an analyst on Fox, and Fox is paying 37 and a half million dollars for that.
A
Now, I did hear from somebody who's, I don't want to, you know, somebody who has a say in this, or at least they know what's going on. And they said, hey, you're missing a point here, too, that Ben Johnson may say to Tom Brady, tell me what you see with K. Help me with Caleb Williams. Like he may use Tom to get information to help Caleb Williams.
C
Yes, Paul, that's a bigger conflict of interest because now he's selling out the Raiders to help another team competitively, which, first of all, broadcasters are not allowed.
A
That's what I would be saying. If I'm Ben Johnson, I would say to Tom, I want to put Tom on the spot. If you're in my production meeting, we're coming in and you're interviewing me, I want to ask you some questions. I want you to tell me, what do you see with Caleb? Well, I mean.
C
No, I know you're right. What you're saying. But that's a worse conflict of interest because now the Raiders are getting shortchanged, and they. After they gifted him ownership. The funniest part of last night is they're in the booth and they showed Tom for the second time. And Tom's like, six four. He's the tallest guy in the booth. Even sitting, he stunned. You know how you do that thing on your chair that goes to make it go down?
A
Yeah.
C
Brady hit the chair and starts going lower and lower like he's hiding out. Like anyone missed it.
A
Well, he might have been told, dude, you're on camera.
C
Well, you could see them looking up the monitor in the booth, and they.
A
All realized you're on camera. Here's Pete Carroll. After the game, ask about Tom Brady. In the coaches booth. There was a report that Tom Brady meets three times a week or so with Chip Kelly, goes over film with them. We saw him up in the booth with a. With a headset on. I just was curious your thoughts on that level of participation with Tom Brady. Yeah. That's not accurate. That's not accurate. That's not accurate. We have conversations. I talk to Tom. Chip talks to Tom regularly. I mean, we have a tremendous asset, and so, you know, and we all get along well, and we respect each other, and so we just talk, you know, about life and football and whatever it comes. And we. He has great insight, so we're lucky to have him as an owner. Okay. You have conversations with him, like, three times a week or. And you talk about football in life, and you're. You're not using him, then if you're not asking him football questions, then you're doing a disservice to the relationship. Hey, it's like if Warren Buffett came in here and I went, no, I'm just gonna ask him about life, not an investment. Yeah. You know, hey, Warren, let me talk to you about your love of ice cream. Yes, Todd. Tom will give me, like, hotel and restaurant recommendations, things like that. We don't even really get into football much, come to think of it. Yeah. Yeah. I'm guessing it. Knowing Tom, how competitive he is, of course he has something to say to Chip Kelly. You'd be crazy not to tap into that. That's why when somebody said, oh, Tom's not really involved with the Raiders, you know, it's minority ownership. And I said, you are absolutely delusional. Delusional. Tom is still competitive, and he wants to win. He has Mark Davis's ear. He has autonomy there. Peter Schrager is the One who reported last. There's two NFL reporters who have said the same thing about Tom talking to the offensive coordinator three times a week. Okay. These are guys who don't miss. They are reporting this.
C
Yes, Paulie, the NFL, though, they greenlit this three years ago when they let him do both because they wanted star power in multiple places. And what will likely happen this week is we called the NFL. We call in, they'll go radio silent to. There's a Thursday Night football game, and then hopefully we all move on.
A
Yeah, it is definitely. Well, no, until the Raiders play the Bears, and then this is going to be a big deal again, so.
C
But they can't. They can't unring this bell.
A
No, they can't. No. I. I just. Okay. The NFL is okay with it. The owners are okay with it. Teams are okay with it. Then, you know. All right. What? What? In.
C
In all seriousness, though, if. If I'm Jerry Jones, I call Troy Aikman and say, you'd like to be a consultant because it's now green lit. Troy Aikman's a genius of football, and I would actually bring Troy Aikman as a consultant role.
A
Or you say you want a piece of the team, Troy?
C
Sure.
A
Yeah, we'll give you a. We'll give you a small piece. Do you want to do that while you continue to do games?
C
Troy's got Sundays off.
B
He said, guys, it's completely separate.
A
Okay?
B
He would never do that.
A
He would never do it. Come on.
B
That's insulting. That is insulting to suggest that he would do that.
A
Yeah. Come on. I wouldn't have had him in the coach's booth. That's all. I would have given him a rapid radio and I would have said, just, you know, push the button and talk to Chip. Maybe do that, you know, a couple of times. Yeah.
C
Paulie, poll question. Was Tom Brady invited to join the coaches booth or did Tom Brady walk in and. And nobody told him to not be in the coach's booth? Which do you think happened?
A
I would think with his relationship with Chip Kelly, that this was mutual. Hey, I'm going to be in there. But, you know, there is, you know, it's like when you have that amicable split, like, hey, we both came to the same decision at the same time. We're going to break up. Oh, I was going to break up, too. I'm going to guess somebody had to bring it up. Maybe, you know, Tom told Mark Davis, hey, I want to be in the booth. Now, does he just walk in and all of a sudden Got his headset on, and he's got his, you know, sharpies and a notepad, and they're like, hey. Hey, Tom. Hey, guys.
C
With a. Bring your own headset.
A
Yeah, I thought that maybe you'd have, like, the play call sheet up by his face so we wouldn't be able to see what he was calling. Yes. Marvin. Does he even run it by Mark Davis? Just as the. Does he just go to Chip Kelly and Pete Carroll? Hey, guys, I'm thinking about coming in to Vegas on Monday night. Oh, yeah, yeah, sure. You can come into the. To the coach's booth. I would. I would give the owner a heads up. I'm going to be in town, Mark, but I want to help out Chip. I'm going to be in the booth, and if I'm Mark Davis, I say absolutely. They've already greenlit this, so let's. We can be blatant with this. Yes. Todd. Can he overrule chip Kelly was 44 blue slam. Oh, Chip. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. We're going to red X89. Red X89. Maybe that's why Gino had a bad night. He's like, got. Wait a minute. Who's talking to me? Is this Tom? Is this Chip? Well, it was Chip. Now it's Tom. Another interception. All right, a couple of phone calls in here. Once again, we do have phone calls out. Nobody's gonna go on the show, but we at least reached out just to find out that nobody has a problem with it. Oh, shut up, talking hairdo. What? Deal with it. Yeah, Seaton. You got a problem with it? What? It's.
B
It's one of those things that, like, makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. It's that much of a problem that I can't believe that people don't also feel that way. Yeah, it's baffling to me.
A
It's Spygate deflate gate.
B
Well, I mean, there is.
A
Right.
B
There is a history.
A
A little bit. Little bit of a history.
B
Even though those are fake, this is a real controversy.
A
Yes, yes. Commissioner's okay with this. You would think. You know, I always think back, you know, the Raiders and, you know, you had the fumble when Woodson hit Tom, and then they didn't call it. It was. You know, they changed the rule in the moment. Venitary in the snow.
B
See that? This is what really pisses me off about this.
A
All right?
B
The Patriots had Spygate, okay? Spygate. When you really look at what Spygate was, you're allowed to videotape the sidelines. And signals from this area. But if you go 15ft that way, you're not allowed to do it anymore. And that's where the Patriots were recording their stuff from was from the place that you're not allowed to do it from. But if they just moved over to the other spot, it would have been perfectly okay. That's where every other team records the sideline signals. That was a huge problem. That 15ft that led to one of the biggest scandals the game has ever seen. But this, a broadcaster sitting in other teams meetings and then going back to the team that he partially owns and sitting in the coaches booth, that's perfectly okay. Nothing to see here. That's crazy.
A
Dave in Nova Scotia. Hi Dave. What's on your mind today? Hey, bud.
D
Gone are the days where David Nova Scotia would call into the DP show to complain about Mike Glennon and Josh McCown. We've got Baker Mayfield now, Danny, and the dude is an absolute baller. I've got a quick question for you in the show and a Saturday I can't remember, have we seen any other quarterback with this type of career resurgence like Baker Mayfield? And as far as the stat of the day, let's go ahead and sit on the music scene.
A
Marvin.
D
5.
A
Danny.
D
Only two teams in NFL history have ever started 2 and 0 despite trailing both games with one minute left in the fourth quarter. 79 Browns and your 2025 Super bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A
Well done. I mentioned during the game Baker Mayfield had his helmet off and I, I sent a text to the Dan. I said Baker Mayfield would have been a part of Cobra Kai. Nice. He would have taken Daniel Son out. Definitely. He would have been a Cobra Kai. You would have sweeped the leg. He would have. He would have put him in a body bag. Mo in Arizona. Hi, Mo. What's on your mind today?
D
Morning, Dan Dennet. We all know Shanahan's a good coach except for the super bowl when he has a lead. But do you think it's possible, even with all the money that they've given Brock Purdy, if, let's say, he doesn't play the next few games and Mac Jones has the same performance that he's had last week, do you think it's possible that Shanahan may actually go with Mac Jones even though he liked him coming out of the draft?
A
No. No. If you knew what you had in Mac Jones and you thought that that was equal to Brock Purdy, then you don't offer Brock Purdy that contract. Do I think brock Purdy is $250 million better than Mac Jones. No, I do not. I think Mac Jones got railroaded with the Patriots and I think he can play the position. I don't know a high level, but I do think he can. I don't think they'll miss that much. And I know that's going to sound as a knock to Brock Purdy, but it is an acknowledgment to Mac Jones that I do think that he can play the position and that Shanahan did like him, reportedly liked him going into the draft. Dave in Arkansas. Hi, Dave. What's on your mind?
D
They call me Pittsburgh Dave. And if I may buy her from, borrow from Mike McGuire. I'm not here to talk about the past. Want to throw something out here for the NFL schedule and we're going to hear me out on all of this. We're going to get rid of one preseason game down to two. I want expanded rosters for the first four weeks. We've had all these injuries. There are always all these injuries. Why can't we have expanded rosters for the first four weeks then? I know you said that they'll never give up a week, but make it a business week where we have a dead week. It's the trade deadline, it's the cut deadline. It's everything to deal with. That's your first buy for all the teams. All the teams get second.

They will never give up a football this weekend. They won't. It's too much business. And if you're going to 18 games, I've said expand the roster maybe by four, get more players, more money, more benefits. And if you're going to have an 18 game schedule, this is going to happen throughout the year. This happens every year. Quarterbacks get banged up. The most protected person on the field is still getting banged up. That tells you everything you need to know about the sport. And these aren't like terrible injuries. I don't know how JJ McCarthy got banged up or Joe Burrow with his turf toe, but it's not like they took a blindside hit. It's not like they were running and all of a sudden they ran into a 300 pound lineman. You know, Justin Fields got hit his head, hit the turf. You know, a lot of this is just normal football plays, but we're going to continue to have this. It's just the evolution of the quarterback and on the move more instead of being in the pocket. You had guys who played, you know, every game during the season, but they, you know, they weren't Risking, you know, it's the risk and the reward with the NFL at that position there. As Steve Young has said on multiple occasions on this show, there is so much out there for you to take that they're giving it to you. Do you want to take it? And what risk are you willing to provide? Take a break. Our play of the day is next. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. The play of the day. This is the play of the day. Check this out. And they run four. Herbert has all day in the pocket. Takes a shot downfield two wide open. Caught Quentin Johnson. Touchdown Chargers 60 yard touchdown. Herbert to Q. That's courtesy of the Chargers radio network. That's your play of the day. Justin Herbert, 242 yards, two touchdowns. Also led the Chargers in rushing with 31 yards in the convincing win against the Raiders. The Raiders, your play of the day. Play of the day brought to you by. Well, tirerack.com they've been doing it for 40 years. Over 40 years. Right. Tires for how and what and where you drive ship fast and free. Backed by free road hazard protection. Convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerack.com the way tire buying should be. Now, the Raiders next game is against the Commanders, correct? Correct. Was Tom Brady's last game that he did the commander's game? I don't think so, no. Has he done a commander's game?
B
I don't know if he's done a commander's game yet.
A
Okay.
B
But you can see how that schedule starts to stack up with teams.
A
Oh, he did Eagles, Chiefs on Sunday. Okay. And then you've got the Bears game with the Raiders. Yeah, but he does the Bears game this week. Okay. Brian in Michigan. Hi, Brian. What's on your mind today? Hey, Brian. Hello. Hey, Brian. Bye, Brian. Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris. What's on your mind?
D
Hey, thanks, Dan. Hey, a couple comments and right off the bat I've been. I've been wanting to tell you I can't listen to the show like I used to every day, but I want you to know on the days that I do listen, it's really gets me in a good mood. So. Yeah, thanks, Dan.
A
We're glad to have you back, Chris. We are. We're glad that you were a staple when this show started and one of the best phone callers that we, we have.
D
I'm lucky. Thanks. Thanks a lot, Dan. Hey, a couple comments. Being a Viking fan, I am, I'm very disappointed to hear JJ is going to be on the shelf for a couple weeks. But I still like Carson Wentz. You know, he's a big guy, 65240 I think he's still talented. In his last year at Indy, his full season, he had, he had some good numbers and I think with Kevin o' Connell as his coach, we got a good offensive line, got weapons, especially in a couple weeks we get Jordan Addison back. I'm really looking forward to see how he looks on Sunday. I think he's going to do really well. And Dan, yesterday you mentioned that Brandon Aubrey is going to be a free agent coming up after the season and after his game on Sunday and the career he's had and the value of place kickers. Knowing Jerry Jones, I bet you he tries to re sign him early and he'll break the bank for him. It'll be interesting to see if that'll be a catalyst for a big reset in the pay scale for elite kickers in the NFL.
A
Well, I hope they sign him. He's your most valuable player. I was told this yesterday by an NFL, well, a former executive here. So he says, hey, if the Cowboys are competitive, I wouldn't rule this out. I said, all right, you got my, got my attention. Maybe they would take the two first round picks that they have that they got in the trade with Micah Parsons. Let's say the Bengals are out of this. Would they then use those two first round picks to go after Trey Hendrickson? He said, I'm just going to throw that out there as if the Bengals are out of this. You can take that salary. You get a cheaper version of Michael, Micah Parsons if you're going to still be in the mix there in the NFC East. I said, all right, I'll entertain that. They just brought in Jadavian Clowney. I guess they're trying to see if he has anything left. Ron in Minnesota. Hi, Ron. What's on your mind today?
D
Hey, Dan, what's up, man? This is Ron Johnson out here in Minnesota 1. I don't know who in the back row said that. He must be a Tom Brady lover or something. I heard him say that it was only bad because they filmed 15 yards too far down the field. An NFL team can never film a sideline because you're going to get signals and all this stuff. So that was the only thing I was saying was Tom Brady being in the booth. I mean, I've been in the booth for College Football on FS1. And I mean, those defensive coordinators give us a lot of intel to keep our eyes on blitz packages, different, you know, formations. And as a former player, I played for the Ravens. Like to have a guy, you know, a owner come into our Denver. I mean, Bashadi were, if he were to come into the locker room and say, hey, when you see three safeties, they're going to blitz 90% of the time. That's why. That's the only reason. But, but I mean, the other coaches aren't complaining. Maybe they're quietly complaining, but there's something wrong there.
A
Well, I'm sure the coaches are like, all right, how guarded should we be? I. I wouldn't. Thanks for the phone call, Ron. If I'm these coach, any of these coaches, and you know, you got a new coach in Chicago, you got Tom Brady. How much do I share? I would, I would have. We got to be coordinated here in what we're saying. He's coming in here. But I would definitely turn it around and say, tom, tell me what you see with Caleb, what we can do to make him better. See what he says. Andrew in Michigan. Hi, Andrew. Hey, good morning, Dan.
D
Thanks for taking my call. 5:11 an IPA away from 2:45. Hey, I've got a comment on if our starting quarterback goes down as a Lions fan and Kyle Allen, who was terrible in the preseason golf going down would be atrocious.
A
Not good.
D
However, I had a quick thought. I think we do have room with salary cap where we could be a feeder for Cousins.
A
Well, let's. Let's wait till your quarterback gets hurt. I wouldn't think that way. The last thing I want to think is when my quarterback gets hurt, can we bring in Kirk Cousins? I. I would want to make sure that my team protected my quarterback. Not, hey, let's get ready for our next quarterback, our backup quarterback. One hour in the books, two more to go. Gary Myers covered the NFL for over 40 years as a new book. It's called Brady vs. Belichick. We'll talk to him about that relationship, where it was and where it is today. And does he view this as a conflict of interest with Tom in the coaching booth? Also Dean Blandino, he's done with the tush push. The former head of officials at the NFL will stop by as well. Back after this. This is an I Heart podcast.

Podcast: The Dan Patrick Show (iHeartPodcasts & Dan Patrick Podcast Network)
Episode Theme: Dan and the Danettes discuss the NFL’s backup quarterback shuffle due to injuries, and explore the controversy around Tom Brady’s dual roles as minority Raiders owner and Fox TV analyst—questioning conflicts of interest after his high-profile appearance in the Raiders’ coaching booth.
In this hour, Dan Patrick and the Danettes break down Week 2 of the NFL season, focusing on the increasing importance of backup quarterbacks as early injuries mount. The group pivots to the headline-grabbing story of Tom Brady’s active presence in the Raiders’ coaching booth, analyzing the optics and implications of having a minority NFL owner simultaneously serving as a network broadcaster. Throughout, the show features signature humor, sharp banter, and fan interaction via poll questions and phone calls.
"You hold on for dear life for three months."
—Dan Patrick, on surviving with backup QBs (03:29)
"It is a time-honored tradition: the Tuesday after Week 2, sorting out the 0-2 teams."
—Dan Patrick (04:15)
“I think we've all gone to an art exhibit and we go, I don't know. And then somebody else comes in and goes, that ROTHKO, I mean, that's $50 million. ... That's what it is to be a quarterback in the NFL.”
—Dan Patrick, on differing levels of understanding at higher levels (11:20)
"You are absolutely delusional. Tom is still competitive, and he wants to win. He has Mark Davis's ear. He has autonomy there."
—Dan Patrick, on Brady's real role as minority owner (22:55)
"They can't unring this bell."
—Paulie, on the NFL's irreversible decision to allow dual roles (24:23)
On Decisiveness in Quarterbacks:
"That's what it is to be a quarterback in the NFL. It's like there's something there. There is, yes. Being able to find it, how quickly you find it, that's what your success and failure kind of hinges on."
—Dan Patrick (11:24)
On the optics of Tom Brady in the booth:
"He's not in the corner. He's not wearing sunglasses and a hat, a hoodie, but it's just not a good look."
—Dan Patrick (18:47)
On NFL's star-driven decisions:
“The NFL, though, they greenlit this three years ago when they let him do both because they wanted star power in multiple places.”
—Paulie (23:57)
On the seeming contradiction of NFL scandals vs. current events:
"That was a huge problem. That 15ft that led to one of the biggest scandals the game has ever seen. But this, a broadcaster sitting in other teams meetings and then going back to the team that he partially owns and sitting in the coaches booth, that's perfectly okay. Nothing to see here. That's crazy."
—Seaton (28:16)
For those who missed the episode, this hour delivered a balanced mix of sports analysis, industry skepticism, and sharp locker-room banter—anchored by the unfolding drama of Tom Brady’s ever-expanding NFL footprint.
