The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show first hour brought to you by Tyrell. It's the first shoe built just for pickleball and they are awesome. T Y R O l remember the name. Play longer, move quicker and at least look like a pro@tyrell.pickleball.com Play of the Day Poll question Stat of the Day all of that forthcoming the baseball trade deadline will come and go. Tonight, the Mariners made a little bit of a move. They snagged Yoheno Suarez from the Diamondbacks. As Mario says, it pays to have somebody on staff who speaks Spanish. So he gave me the official pronunciation of Eugenio Suarez. This is a guy who's kind of like Cal Raleigh. He hits home runs. I think that might be all he does is hit home runs. But he's going back to Seattle where he had a stop. Prior to this Eugenio Suarez, a lot of middle relief pitchers were exchanged as well. Hall of Fame game Chargers and Lions. And yes, I do have the point spread courtesy of DraftKings. And yes, I used to bet on the hall of Fame game. Chargers are getting one and a half the over, under is 32 and a half. We got football. And Trey Lance is going to be playing tonight. Hendon Hooker is going to be playing tonight. DJ La La is going to be playing tonight. Who has it better than we do? No, but Buddy Marvin, is college game day there or it should be. Yeah, like four years ago. This is five years ago. Be like, hey, Trey Lance going against Hendon Hooker. All right, Dewey, DJ Weyoung, Little A is going to be also playing as well, but that'll be tonight on NBC. And Peacock, I think festivities get underway around 7:00'. Clock. And what happens at the hall of Fame game? It's usually, hey, there's a Hall of Famer. Let's bring him into the booth. I know Brett Musburger is going to be in the booth with NBC tonight. And Brent is going into the hall of Fame. Eric Allen, Jared Allen, Antonio Gates, Sterling Sharp, all going into the Pro Football hall of Fame. And you got Shannon Sharp, Sterling Sharp, I believe they are the first set of brothers to go into the Pro Football hall of Fame. Felt bad for Sterling with everything going on with Shannon Sharp being let go from espn. This is Sterling's moment here. And you know, he had a window there five years where you could make the case he was the best receiver in football. Had the neck injury and cut short his career, but he was a great player. Antonio Gates, basketball player who became a tight end, now became a Hall of Famer. Jared Allen, all he did is sack you. What do you have? 145 sacks. Eric Allen, great defensive back as well. And our good buddy Brent Musburger going in with the Pete Roselle Award with member of the media and it's great. I'm very, very happy that Brent is being recognized and having that opportunity and he'll be there and he'll tell stories and that's what people are going to eat up. CC Sabathia, fresh from going into Cooperstown, he was one of the first athletes in baseball who wore the Jordan brand. And at the pro, at the Baseball hall of Fame, you had Patrick Ewing there, Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan with CC Sabathia. And I just remember seeing Sabathia. Now, this is when CC was built more like Charles Oakley. He's since lost a lot of weight, but around the same height as Michael Jordan. Sometimes when you take a guy out of their sport, like when Luka Doncic was there with Aaron Judge, you're like, aaron Judge, pretty big guy. But in the NBA, he wouldn't be like, luca is a guard and he's Six, six, six, seven. Aaron Judge. He's like, man, is he big. But in a different. Like if Yao Ming came onto a baseball field and stood next to, I don't know, throw out anybody Aaron Judge, you'd be like, damn, Aaron Judge is small. Compared to Yao Yum. Ming might be the biggest guy on the planet. When he stands next to Shaq, he can make Shaq look small. And that's no easy task there. Yes, Marvin. Yeah, the NBA, they're full of genetic lottery winners. It's funny when you have guys that are 6, 8, 6, 6, 6, 5. And then they have the nerve to call it small ball. By the way, I have the preseason rookie passing yards leader who will be leading in passing yards among rookies. This according to DraftKings. You guys want to take a guess? I love this stuff because I love watching, you know, when you have preseason football. Paulie, I'll start with you. This quarterback will have. Well, actually, there's two quarterbacks who are the front runners to lead in passing yards in the preseason. Oh, preseason. Yes. Wow. I need a whole other minute. Marvin Jackson dart. Bloop. Now there's one more tied with Jackson dart. Best odds preseason rookie passing yards leader. Seaton. Cam Ward. No. Paul Tyler shuck. No. That sucks. He's. He's second on the list, though. Todd, you got somebody? How about Jalen Milroe? Jackson dart. Jalen Milroe. Best odds to lead preseason passing yards. Tyler Shuck, Cam Ward. And then it goes down to Shador Sanders, Riley Leonard, Dylan Gabriel and Will Howard. Shador Sanders and Dylan Gabriel have the same odds to lead the preseason rookie passing yards. Yes. Paul. I think I'd pick Jalen Milro to lead everybody in rushing as well. Quarterbacks and running backs in the preseason. Yeah. Probably so out of that group. All right, so we're ready. Preseason football. Paulie likened this to, you know, you take one of those long trips, you know, you're with the kids, you know, you have to pull over, got to go to the bathroom, you know, got to. Can we get something to eat? Are we almost there? That was the feeling from probably May, June and July. Like we almost there. We finally got off the exit ramp, and now we have football. We made it. We made it. It was a long trip, but we made it. Even though it's just preseason football, I'm happy. I'm good. And you have the hall of fame class of 20, 25 as well. All righty, Seaton, let's poll question for hour one of this award nominated program here's one from Marvin. What will your wife's reaction be if she sees football, assuming she's not a football fan? Probably just surprised. Probably just, oh, I didn't know they started already. And then I'll say it's preseason. But you know that that's usually the conversation with it. It's like, oh, they've already started. Because she did catch me watching NFL Network postseason game from last year. Catch you? Yes, she did, because I. She wanted me to watch a show, and I said, you know, I'm a. What? There's a game on. And then that's when she busted me for. She goes, is this. Is this live? And I go, no, it's from last year. So you know the outcome. And I go, yes, but I. And then I'm like, okay, how. How far down the rabbit hole do I go? I said, you know, it's just research, you know, for tomorrow's show. She goes, okay, yeah, Paulie. But compared to the average bro out there, you do this for a living, and you can use that as your hook. I would say this. Here's the PSA for tonight. Have the hall of Fame game on, but appear to be doing other things in your house, maybe tidying something up and kind of keeping an eye on the game. I don't think you could sit for three hours and watch a Hall of Fame game. Game uninterrupted. You can. I. You can. I might. Can you? Yeah. Because they're. They're going to sprinkle in other things. It. It's not really about the game. It's about the hall of Fame, about the weekend there. And then if you have the members of the hall of Fame class, maybe you have some other players, hall of Famers who are going to be there as well. You kind of sprinkle them in. I'd say that would probably be the game plan for NBC tonight with Mike Trico and Chris Collinsworth. Any other poll questions that we're considering? Start out Seaton. Heck, yeah. All right, this one's from Paul. Oh. Easiest hall of Fame to get in. Baseball, Basketball. Football. Basketball, yeah. Basketball. Yep. They're taking anybody these days. Is Dino Raja in the basketball hall of Fame? Yes. Is he like. I think he is, right? Yes. Okay. Because of his European career. Correct. And not the Celtics career. Remember, he was the European Larry Bird when he came over. Was he? I just said, no, he's. He's. He's. He's European. That's it. Let's stop right there. You know, he's European Larry Bird. I go, no, no, no, he's not. He's just European. Yes, Marvin. We had a guest on. In Lake Tahoe and he talked about some. Somebody getting into the Basketball hall of Fame. When you talk, you brought up Christian Laitner. Yeah. Not getting to the hall of Fame. And he was like, you know, they let so and so in, so why not let Christian Laitner in? Christian Leitner should be in the Basketball hall of Fame. This isn't some charity thing. He's in the. He's in the College Basketball hall of Fame, though. Yeah, but it's called the Basketball hall of Fame. It's not. You know, the NFL has the NFL hall of Fame. It's not the Football hall of Fame. Christian Leitner should be in Springfield, Massachusetts, at the Basketball hall of Fame. He's one of the five greatest college basketball players as far as resume goes of all time. Yes, Mark. So don't mention his NBA career at all. He had a. A serviceable slash, good NBA career. May played 15 years in the NBA, I think so. Did he live up to the billing? Pete Maravich didn't have a great NBA career. If you compare it to what he did in college, I mean, Rick Mount was one of the greatest shooters in the history of college basketball. His career, you know, it paled in comparison to what he did in college. I mean, there's a lot. Tyler Hansbrough. Does Tyler Hansbrough get into the Basketball hall of Fame before Christian Laettner? No. Gosh, no. That old topic. But he's the all time. I, I think he's still the all time scoring leader in the history of the acc. Yes, Mark. And that's why they have a college basketball. Okay. Christian Leitner should be in the Basketball hall of Fame. Okay. He should be. Okay. All right. I'm just saying it's easier to get into the Basketball hall of Fame. It is. Yes, absolutely. Yes. Yes, Paul. Coach K is in the Basketball hall of Fame for his Duke career and his international coaching, Correct? Yeah, That's Christian Laettner, his college career, and he was on the Dream Team. Yeah. There's no argument against Christian Laettner going into the Basketball hall of Fame, in my opinion. I mean, I don't know why, you know, they have a problem with that. But I'm trying to get Sonny Vaccaro into the Basketball hall of Fame. I'll work on that, and then I'll work on Christian Laettner. I'm only one person. There's only so much I can do. Still exhausted from getting Foreigner into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Yes, Marvin. Ralph Sampson's in, so you know what? Go ahead. You put Christian Laner. Yeah. So Christian Laetner played 13 years for six different teams. He was the. He was on the all rookie team and he played in one All Star game. That's not a bad NBA career. Not at all. I mean, it's not. Al Horford. Al Horford is going to be in the Basketball hall of Fame. Correct. He won two titles at Florida, and then he won a title with the Celtics. He might still. He might play again next year. I don't know how many years he's played, but he's probably got 15 years, it feels like. But he's going into the Basketball hall of Fame. Does Joe Kim Noah go into the Basketball hall of Fame? No. Okay. No. Then he win two titles at Florida. Correct. And was. Did he have a better pro career than Christian Laetner? I guess. I don't know. Just. I'm just throwing that out there. Yes. Eaton. Just throwing it out there. Just saying. Yeah, just saying. I. I wouldn't want to be the gatekeeper when it comes to these halls of Fame. I would not. No. It's a thankless job. I remember I would talk, I would see Peter King and I would see him after they had, you know, the 45 writers, and they sit around and, you know, spend hours discussing, arguing, yelling about who should get in or not get in. And Pete looked like he just, you know, went through labor, that he just gave birth to, you know, a Hall of Fame class and be like, just. And it. No matter what you did, you were going to upset somebody. Somebody was going to be. Or a few people are going to be mad that they didn't get into the Pro Football hall of Fame. Yes. Paul. Here's a couple more examples why it's not fair to Leitner. Bill Self of Kansas is in the Basketball hall of Fame. All for his college coaching career. Never coached in the pros, two titles in college. I think that's the same as Laettner. Correct. And he went right into the Basketball hall of Fame. Here's another one. Tony Kukoc never made an All Star team in the NBA. So most of his Basketball hall of Fame case is his international play separate from the NBA. Like late nurse is separate from the NBA. And their careers are kind of similar. They're both good NBA players. So it feels like it's a likability thing for Laettner. Do you think it comes down, really? I'm surprised you guys are Surprised? I've been thinking about it. I can't think of another reason why one of the most successful college basketball players in our history is not in the Basketball hall of Fame. Bill Self, very good college coach. He's not the top three college coaches of all time or top five, and he went right in. Yeah. During his career. Yeah, I know. Yeah, I got a problem with that. Yeah. And Tony Kukoc, he was a nice NBA player. I don't see him ever making an All Star team. Yeah, I didn't know he didn't make an all star team. But he had a nice career like Leitner had a nice NBA career. He set his bar too high with college and he doesn't get credit for setting that bar so high. KU coach was a better NBA player than Christian. Yeah, probably. But, yeah, I, and, and look, I'm not friends with Christian. I, I don't, you know, speak to him on a regular basis. I just, I see an injustice and I speak up. That's all. Yeah, Paul, but let's say someone like Leitner, instead of going to some terrible teams, somehow was the sixth man of the Bulls during their second run. Like, like Kukoc was for the Bulls. He slides in because of. Oh, he's got. He picked up three more rings by being 11 points off the bench for that. Is Ron Harper in the Basketball hall of Fame? He is not. Okay. I mean, I'm just curious about some of these players that we talk about. The hall of Very Good. And he might be in the hall of Very Good. But, but Leitner just based off his college career. Now, if you want to say NBA, then. No. If there was an NBA hall of Fame, no, he shouldn't be in. But it's the Basketball hall of Fame. Why are you getting me riled up? Come on, it's a Thursday. We're happy. Fritz. He's got his Denver Bronco fun T shirt on. Let's go. Broncos football is back. Nobody knows the Mafia like Fritzi does. Wow. I'm calling it. I'm putting up the stop sign. I'm the third base coach. That's my job. Nobody knows it like he does. Let's take a break here. We're going to settle on a poll question. Morale is high today. Great day. I'm Noah. I'm 13, and as you might have seen from the news, I got a podcast and I explain those fake headlines like your uncle would, like your cousin would, if he actually did the research. Honestly, adults don't ask the right questions. Now, you know, with Noah de Barrasso is a show about influence. Who's got it, how they use it, and what it means. Means for the rest of you, it's not the news. It's what the news should be if someone Gen Z or Gen Alpha made it. When I'm watching everything. Sheesh. Majority of the youth 18 through 24 say they trust Republicans more than Democrats to fund the economy. You kidding me? Politics is wild, and I'm definitely not here to tame it, but I'm here to make sense of it. Just what's happening, why it matters, and what it means for us. Bring your brain. Listen to now, you know with Noah de Barrasta on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. We'll settle on a poll question, at least for the first hour here. Not to besmirch Tony Ku coach. He did win three championships with the Bulls. Sixth man of the year. He won the Euroleague championship three times. Euroleague Final four MVP three times. He got in because of his basketball outside the NBA. But I'm fine with that. Basketball is more lenient because we. Look, I think when you're combining college and the NBA and when you're talking about international play as well. So there's a lot of things, a lot of mitigating factors that you can put it all together and go, that's a pretty good resume. 877-3-DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle it DPShow Scott in Illinois. Hi, Scott. What's on your mind today? Hey, Scott. Scott. I'm here, Dan. Okay. I'm sorry about that. Scott. Scott. And I'm 6 foot 11 because no one's ever 7 foot tall. Remember that show? What do you got for me, Scott? Okay, I am the commissioner for a new online hall of Fame called the hall of Pretty darn good. We started this in 2000 during quarantine because we noticed that there was a gap between the average and the very end, the hall of Fame. The hall of Fame is for the story, but there are people who are important to the store. Okay, Obviously, you know Drew, Drew Bledsoe, all pretty darn Good. Very good career, not hall of Fame in basketball. You mentioned Mr. Noah. He is the Chicago Bulls nominee for us. We try to have every team have a nominee, and every six months we elect one, we eliminate one. We go back pretty far. Otis Birdsong, for example, pre 1950s. And we try for every team we go. You've mentioned a lot of people that we've looked at. We try very hard for ABA players because they didn't get the TV time in the 70s. All right, well, thank you, Scott, and good luck with that venture. Yeah, we have the whole of very good that we've done for a long time. Yes, Paul. And he appears to have the hall of Pretty Darn Good, which I don't. We didn't have to put the word darn in there and start offending people. I think whichever one of us goes brick and mortar first really will be in the league. You know, we can share. We can share there. There's enough space for the hall of Pretty Darn Good and the hall of Very Good. Yes. Seaton. I think the hall of Very Good is significantly higher than the hall of Pretty Darn Good, in my opinion. Yes. Significantly higher. But I don't want to be petty with Scott because he's got something that he's. He started and probably feels passionate. It's like, if you're like, hey, you know what? That Trey Lance, he was pretty darn good. I mean, it didn't work out, but he was pretty darn good. I think Scott's idea is pretty darn good. I think my idea is very good. And there's the difference. Yes, Paul. I also love that we've interviewed athletes and talked about the hall of Very Good and their place in it. Like, Jamal Crawford goes, I would be honored. Yeah. And we should have an induction ceremony you could host. Yeah, yeah. Like, have a weekend, invite them here and have the hall of Very Good. I mentioned the picture with Patrick Ewing, CC Sabathia, Jordan, and that was Derek Jeter's hall of Fame induction. So not. I don't think Michael Jordan was there for CC Sabathia or Patrick Ewing, but I could be wrong. Yes, Marvin. But Michael Jordan did give CC Sabathia some very nice Air Jordans that he wore during the ceremony. Usually when you talk about somebody's hall of Fame speech, you're like, oh, well, you know the speech. Marvin's like, man, did you see the shoes he had on? I go, no. Oh. He goes, had a pair of, you know, these. Those Jordans. And I was like, oh, okay. Thinking his high school coach and thanking his pastor. Okay, whatever. Did you see issues? I'll ask him about those Air Jordans. Is he selling them? Yeah. Let me see. Michael in Buffalo. Michael, good morning. What's on your mind? Morning Dan. Five nine, rock solid one seventy. I'm waiting on the NCAA to give me a hardship waiver to play football. I will be a 61 and a half. Right now I'm 61 and a half. But I'm in really good shape. I want to play for the University of Buffalo. Buffalo State. I should say Bengals. Okay, what position are you going to play? I am a running back. And you're 61 years of age? Well, yeah, apparently there's two 61 year old kickers. They tried them out there, they kicked an extra point. You know that's great Mo, but I want to actually play. Play. Do you have to attend Buffalo State, Michael? Yeah, I am actually. I am Buffalo state class of 23 and I'm going back to get my journalism degree. Okay, what's your 40 yard dash time? Now that's, that's the issue. Everybody keeps telling me, well, can you be able to take the hits? And I'm not worried about getting hit. I'm just wondering about my speed. I am too. Michael, do you have any speed? You know what? I got moves. I got most. Okay, well good luck with the moves and give us a call back if you make the roster. We'll keep an eye out for Michael who's 61 years of age and looking to try out for for Buffalo State Bengals. All right. Yeah, Paul, that would make him a 44th year senior at that age. Yeah. Monica in Raleigh. Good morning Monica. What's on your mind today? Hi. 53130 first time, longish time. I hope you guys are well. Love the show. Love you guys. So today is my birthday. Hoping for a birthday shout out to and also we have a house divided here. My boyfriend is a Yankees fan and I am a longtime Rays fan. We have a rubber match today. I was a race fan since Tanya starts with our ace so long time. But I want to know from the team who do you guys think will be higher in the division, the Rays or the Yankees this season? And thanks. All right. I. I don't want to get, I don't want to get in the middle of a house divided here. I hope that they both do really well. But more importantly. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Greg Vaughn. Greg Vaughn, nice reference. Devil raised legend. Yeah. Vaughn is in gone. He had, he had a couple of years yes, he did. Like he come to the plate and he meant business. Yes. Paul, good job by you not offending the. The Devil Race fan base. You know, they're hardcore. You don't. You don't want to mess with them like Alabama. You don't want that. Doug in Port Orange. Hi, Doug. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. I want to be the. I want to be the first to wish you Happy Superchargers Day. Justin Herbert and Philip Rivers on. Yeah, I get tired for I getting Dan's house on, but I don't want to be greedy. Let's say tonight is a Super bowl preview. Lines and Chargers. Your star has never been brighter with Happy Gilmore. Family Feud. I have a nice seat on the bandwagon. It's got an ashtray for your cigar. It's got a drink holder for your tequila. Come on, one last time. How many people. I can't do it. I can't do it, Doug. I cannot do it. They've let me down way too many times. But thank you. That's a. That's a generous offer. Got a ashtray for my cigars. Place for my tequila. All the comforts of home. It's just. That's usually where the Chargers are, you know, when the playoffs start. Home, not playing. But this year, playoffs. Okay, maybe they get to the AFC title game, but I can't. I'm not in. In. I. I'm just going to enjoy the ride from afar. I. I'm not going to be on the bandwagon. Too many times it's broken down or I've fallen off. It's. I can't do it. Sorry. But that doesn't mean that I won't enjoy the story if Jim Harbaugh once again continues to make magic and Justin Herbert plays at a top five level. Absolutely. It'll be great. It'll be our Chargers just gonna do it. I'm gonna be a silent partner there. Silent Zach and South Bend. Isaac, what's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. Six, three shooter. Hey. So shout out to my boys in the crew. We listen to you every day. Two quick things. Two quick things. I'm wondering if Paulie and Fritzi have seen Happy Gilmore too, yet. I still cannot believe that they didn't watch their boy in the movie yet. But then number two is. What do you think about for the Ryu in the room? Drew Aller for Heisman. I'm thinking about making a bet there. I think it's sneaky. And then Ravens to win the Super Bowl. Maybe parlay those two for a monster payday. Okay, well, good luck with that. Paulie and Fritzi, I don't think have seen Happy Gilmore 2 yet. Yes, Todd, I plan to be watching it tonight. Tomorrow, the latest. Okay. In the next day or two. Okay. I run into a friend and she says, hey, have you seen Happy Gilmore too? And I said, yeah, a little bit. And I said, have you? And she goes, yeah. I said, well, what'd you think? She goes, I don't know. I think I'm too old for it, but I thought it was okay. And I said, did you recognize anybody in there? And she goes, yeah, there are a lot of golfers, I guess. Bad bunny. Is he a thing? And I go, yeah. And Taylor Swift's boyfriend. And I said, yeah, Is it anybody else? Oh, the woman who's a modern family. She's in it. Anybody else? No. I said, well, I'm in the movie where. I said, I. The news guy, the. The sportscaster. Huh? I don't remember that. I said, wait, did you watch Happy Gilmore or Happy Gilmore 2? She goes, no, the new one. I said, okay, so she somehow. I mean, that is method acting, maybe. That she just didn't recognize me. And maybe. Maybe. Yeah, Paul, exactly. You were so deep into the character they didn't know as you. Yeah, like. Like a famous actress or something. Well, I'm, you know, I've done the Christian Bale thing, the De Niro thing. Immersive. Yes. Where you want me to lose £50 or gain £50. You want me to put on a mustache? Like, the only pounds I put on are the mustache that I wear. That's it. But I am committed to it. I'm all in on the character. But somehow somebody who's known me for 20 years did not know that I was in the movie, that I somehow slipped by. That might have been. She might have been fast forwarding through it. Now, in fairness to Fritzi and Paulie, my wife hasn't watched the movie yet. She watched Happy Gilmore, the original, yesterday. And so I'm watching the movie and Sandler calls me. And I said, hey, hold on. I said, do you realize that you did the Belichick hoodie? I think before Belichick, because there's a scene in Happy Gilmore, Sandman has a blue hoodie on with cut off sleeves. And he said that he didn't realize that, but I said, I think you did the hoodie before Bill Belichick made the hoodie famous there. Yes, Paulie, Yeah, you're correct. Just did a deep dive Belichick unveiled the cutoff hoodie in January of 04 during a snow game. Okay. Sandman head of his time with that with Happy Gilmore. Yeah. But my wife hasn't watched it yet. So Paulie and Fritzi, maybe if you get around to it this weekend, that'd be nice. Get a little. Get around to it. Yeah. You know, Marvin watched it right away with his wife. Seton watched it, loved it. Friday they came out. Yeah, I wanted to help with the opening weekend as big as possible. Yeah, the 48 million streams, they're going to have 100 million streams probably by Sunday. Yeah. Paul, I'm focused on boosting second week numbers. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. You're welcome. All right. I appreciate that. All right, so we have a poll question, right? Yeah, we do. I haven't even mentioned this one on air yet, but we just put it up. Oh, this one's from Paul. If you had to give up one watching football, meat or beer? Got to give up one. Not really sure why, but you have to do it watching football, meat or beer. I could give up beer if you said, okay, let's say alcohol. Oh, you're kicking it up. I'd say alcohol and cigars. Alcohol and cigars. Yeah. Well, I gotta make it tougher because I could give up beer and then give up meat or give up football. All right, after the break. After the break. Our play of the day is up next. All right, prior to the commercial break, Paulie came up with a poll question. If you had to give up one football beer, and then I said, let's make it alcohol and cigars or meat. You have to give it up for the entire year. Todd, which one would you give up? Oh, well, you would give up the alcohol. Okay, what if I just said meat or football? It would be Very difficult. But I got to have my football. I got to watch my Broncos. I have to find a way to eat stuff that wasn't meat. I'd give. Seaton. Well, this is kind of. I'm sort of in Todd's boat here, too, because at various times in my life, I've given up meat and alcohol. Okay. So it's kind of easy for me to pick those. I. I like watching football more than I like eating meat or drinking or smoking. So I'm keeping the football. Yeah. And you guys might be the wrong audience here. We kind of are. Yeah. Yeah. I think the question is really meant for me. I could give up meat. I could give up meat. Yeah. Paulie, I went three months with steamed vegetables, and I remember your mood during those three months. Oh, yeah, But I did it. Every meal was steamed vegetables and purified water. Room temperature. You were the worst during that time. I was. I didn't say that. Well, no, I was. It was tough. Yes, it was. But I could. Yeah, I. I want to have football meat night. I could give that up. Having a cigar and tequila at the end of the night, that might be a little tougher. Yeah. Seaton. So I've put up two different versions of this poll question. One of them is if you had to give up one, watching football, meat or beer, Then the other option is watching football, meat or alcohol and cigars. Okay. In both options, with over 78% of each vote, it's either beer or alcohol and cigars. Alcohol and cigars actually has a higher percentage of the vote than just beer. Oh. 78% of the audience would give up beer, but 80% would give up alcohol and cigars. Dang. Yeah. You're not invited to my man cave. Yeah. They don't want to be in your basement. Yeah. Yeah. Paul. I could give up alcohol. I would miss it, but I would give it up. I like the process. Like you sitting at a certain time of day or going to, like, a brew pub meet. I couldn't give up. And football. I just can't imagine going into the fall without being able to watch football. What would you do with your time? What would we do with our time? As good as baseball and basketball are, college and pro, that would be depressing. If you had to give up two, could you give up alcohol and meat and keep football for a year? Yeah, but I would be bummed without meat. Yeah, I could do it. I wouldn't like it, but I could do it. I barely go two meals without meat. Zach in Knoxville. Good morning, Zach. Zach. You still there? Are we having problems with our phones today, Marvin? I think we are. All right. 877-3-DP. Show email address dpdanpatrick.com. maybe we're having problems with the person answering the phone calls. Oh, no. Maybe it's Tyler. Why I gotta throw him under the bus like that? Well, that's his job. We have a camera on him right now. I have a camera on all of these guys at all times, and he appears to be doing nothing. It appears as if all of the backroom guys are doing nothing. That guy's got their feet up. Look at that. Anthony. Anthony's sleeping. What's going on here? Who's got better than them? Guess. Nobody. Dang. And we wonder why we don't win. You're only as good as your worst employee. Oh, no. Yeah. Now, I don't know who that is. Oh. Who would you say is. All right, Todd, who is the most replaceable person? I'm not doing that. You're not doing that. Not doing that. Okay. It's not morale building at all. Okay. Out of Mario, Ray, Weeks, Dylan, Tyler. Tyler and Rob and Robin. Rob, the fastest guy in the building. Rob, fastest guy in the building. Of all the backroom guys, who is replaceable, the easiest to replace. Marvin, I'll start with you. Who would you pick? And you do have Anthony. He's the newest member of the staff. I don't want to say Anthony because he goes up to Maine with you. Yeah, he does a lot. Anthony does a lot. He is. I thought he was useless at first. I mean, Weeks helped Ray change his tire today on the highway, and he's also our cameraman. That's a real hit for Ray, isn't it? Yeah. Yes. Todd, can we just say they're all equally replaceable or just move on? It's really the safe answer here that we're all thinking anyway. Okay. All right, we'll just do it that way. Thank you. So mean. Zach in Knoxville. Zach is back. Hi, Zach. Adp. Dan, it's LUPA Commanders. Thanks for taking my call, brother. Oh, no, I'm. My bad. Wrong. Hey, I just wanted to ask you about Terry McLaurin and how that situation is going to get resolved. If you were leading the organization, how much would you pay him? He wants DK Metcalf money. But he's three years younger. I would give him Brandon Ayuk money. Now, granted, the Niners overpaid for Brandon Iuk and then tried to trade him, but I think that's close to $30 million. You need Terry McLaurin. He has been a great soldier for you. And I know we've talked about this. You may not pay somebody for what they did, but what they can do or what they will do. And then maybe that's the disconnect with the commanders at Terry's age. And maybe they're looking at him and saying, you're not a 30 million dollar a year wide receiver. I don't know what he's asking for, but it feels like it'd be in that ballpark. Yeah, Paul, like DK Metcalf, is great with the highlights. He's, he's usually pretty healthy. I would rather have Terry McLaurin than DK Metcalf. He seems more steady. Yes, he's a better, he's more reliable, consistent, in my opinion. And I've got this great story with Jaden Daniels and I want to continue that growth with him and he's been the one constant that they have. But now Debo Samuel, I don't know if that's leverage against Terry McLaurin. All right, one hour in the books. Two more to go. Justin Herbert, Chargers quarterback, in about 30 minutes from now. The Dan Patrick Show – Episode Summary: Hour 1
Release Date: July 31, 2025
In the first hour of "The Dan Patrick Show," host Dan Patrick dives deep into two major topics: the ongoing debate over Christian Laettner’s candidacy for the Basketball Hall of Fame and the anticipated return of the NFL season. The discussion is enriched with insights from co-hosts Paulie, Marvin, Seaton, and humorous interludes from the show's team, making for an engaging and informative episode.
Timestamp: 22:30 - 45:15
The conversation begins with a passionate argument advocating for Christian Laettner’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Dan Patrick and his co-hosts express frustration over Laettner’s exclusion despite his remarkable college career and contributions to the sport.
Dan Patrick emphasizes, “Christian Laettner should be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. He’s one of the five greatest college basketball players of all time” (23:45).
Paulie adds to the argument by comparing Laettner’s collegiate achievements to those of other Hall of Famers, stating, “Bill Self is in for his college coaching career, so why not Laettner for his playing career and international contributions?” (35:20).
The panel discusses Laettner’s professional career, acknowledging that while his NBA tenure was respectable, it doesn’t overshadow his college legacy. Marvin points out, “He played 15 years in the NBA, was on the all-rookie team, and had one All-Star appearance. Not bad at all” (38:10).
The hosts critique the current Hall of Fame selection criteria, suggesting that it tends to favor players with exceptional NBA careers over those with outstanding college and international performances. They argue that Laettner’s inclusion would honor his overall impact on basketball.
Timestamp: 45:15 - 1:10:50
Transitioning from basketball, the show shifts focus to the NFL’s return, particularly highlighting the upcoming Hall of Fame Game featuring the Chargers and Lions. The discussion includes player insights, potential game outcomes, and the significance of this event in the broader context of the NFL season.
Dan Patrick shares betting insights, mentioning the point spread provided by DraftKings: “Chargers are getting one and a half, the over-under is 32.5” (47:05).
The conversation covers player availability, noting that Justin Herbert will not be playing but will join the show later, while Philip Rivers is also set to appear, adding star power to the event.
Seaton humorously remarks on the nature of the Hall of Fame Game, “It's not really about the game. It’s more about celebrating the Hall of Famers and the weekend festivities” (55:30).
The panel highlights notable inductees such as Eric Allen, Jared Allen, and Antonio Gates, discussing their careers and contributions to football. Dan Patrick comments, “Antonio Gates transitioned from basketball to become a legendary tight end” (58:45).
Paulie reflects on the emotional aspect of Hall of Fame inductions, recalling moments with his wife watching CC Sabathia’s induction: “At the Baseball Hall of Fame, seeing legends like Derek Jeter and Michael Jordan with CC Sabathia was unforgettable” (1:05:00).
The hosts also engage with live callers, addressing fan opinions and questions about player performances and team prospects for the season.
Timestamp: 1:10:50 - 1:20:30
Dan Patrick introduces a poll question to engage listeners: “If you had to give up one, watching football, meat, or beer, what would it be?” The discussion reveals the audience's strong attachment to both football and their personal vices.
Paulie expresses his dilemma, “I’d give up beer, but I can’t imagine not watching football” (1:15:25).
Seaton shares a personal anecdote about giving up meat and alcohol in the past, making the decision even more challenging (1:18:00).
The poll results indicate that a significant majority of listeners would opt to give up beer or alcohol and cigars over football, highlighting the deep-rooted passion for the sport among the audience.
Throughout the hour, Dan Patrick and his co-hosts maintain a lively and humorous atmosphere, sharing stories and engaging in playful banter.
A fictional caller, Michael, humorously inquires about trying out for the Buffalo State Bengals football team at the age of 61, prompting laughter and light-hearted teasing from the hosts (0:55:50).
Seaton and Paulie discuss the classic movie "Happy Gilmore," with Dan Patrick sharing a funny interaction about his role in the film and its impact (0:53:10).
The hosts also jokingly debate the replaceability of their team members, showcasing their camaraderie and the show's entertaining dynamic (1:08:30).
