If you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, thank for downloading the app and our radio affiliates around the country. IHeartRadio Fox Sports Radio Reggie Miller next hour on the program. Thunder sweep the Suns. Magic up three one on the Pistons. And the Nuggets win it in a chippy game against the Timberwolves. Minnesota still up 3 2. Cooper Flag won the Rookie of the Year over Con Caniple. I've been saying all season long that I thought that he was the obvious choice. Doc Rivers, when he joined us at the end of the season, said, boy, you gotta understand how Con Caniple changed the Hornets. He kind of changed their whole mindset and had that kind of impact on the team. Now I had not heard that before and I thought, okay, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he surprised a lot of people. We expected Cooper Flag to be really good, if not great. Con Caniple was like, man, that guy's pretty good. He's one of those guys when you watch and then you watch again and then you go, no, he's just good and one of the best shooters in the game. We saw that and they made the playoffs. Now I think what hurt him, that play in game where he played poorly. And I don't know if votes were in by then. They're supposed to be regular season, it's a regular season award. But Reggie Miller said a couple of weeks ago he was taking back his rookie of the Year vote for Con Caniple because late in the season and certainly in that play in game, he did not play well. Now I don't know if other voters abandoned ship with Con Caniple, but it was still a really tight race. 26 point gap between the top two players for a rookie of the Year. That's the smallest since the current format began in 2002. That was between Amari Stoudemire and Yao Ming. You know, Khan Canepol set the rookie record for three pointers. Cooper Flag was so much more than that when, when you watch Dallas and I don't think he got enough recognition for the season that he had. He wasn't just a singular specialist as Con Canpel. Now Canipple is a really good player. He's one of those guys where you say, man, he's a little more athletic. No, he's athletic. He kind of sneaky. No, no, no, there's nothing sneaky. It's just Con Canal can play. I'm going to blame Paulie for this. Paulie is the king of. He's kind of sneaky athletic.
Paulie
When he got to do Khan is like, well, he doesn't look like he could jump much. I don't Know how you don't look like you could jump?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, he can play, he can play. But Cooper Flag, with what he did this year, everybody knew you don't have Kyrie, you don't have ad. It's Cooper Flag. You were gearing up for Cooper Flag and the guy put up tremendous numbers. 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4 1/2 assists, 1 and 1.2 steals per game. You know, he's just a little bit older than LeBron was. When LeBron came in like six days and he, he put up numbers similar to LeBron, flag averaged more points, more rebounds, less assist and less steals than LeBron did. He's only 19 coming into the league and LeBron was 19 as well when he came in. It was just Flag went that one year to Duke. He should have been his senior year in high school, but he's playing as a freshman at, at Duke. But some of the other numbers, like Wemby's numbers, were awesome. 21:10, three and a half blocks per game. Luca had great numbers. Blake Griffin when he won. Tyreek Evans had good numbers. Kevin Durant Average 20, Tim Duncan 2112 and two and a half blocks. But those guys were, you know, Tim Duncan played four years in college. Allen Iverson came in after a couple years at Georgetown, averaged 23 and a half, seven assist, seven and a half a. Shaq was 23 and a half and 14 rebounds, three and a half blocks per game. He had spent a couple of years in college as well. But I thought, and once again I changed my vote when there was the Grant Hill, Jason kid rookie of the year race. I changed it. That morning I was at NBA Entertainment and I was doing legends of the game, greatest games in NBA history. And I kept going back and forth, back and forth and it ended up, it was a tie. The Rookie of the year award was a tie between those two that year. I thought that there was going to be a tie this year. Not that they would have been an actual tie, but I thought, you know what, maybe you give both of these teams, both of these players, the stage, the recognition, former teammates as well. But Cooper Flag was the best rookie this year and he was far more than just that. At when you say to a 19 year old, go out there and you got to get 25 a night, we need you to score. If Con canipple hits five threes, we go, man. He added to his three point total. Cooper Flag had to go out and win games. Con Canal didn't have to win. And, and look what he did in any other year. You know, he might win a rookie of the Year. Not this year. Cooper Flag was the best rookie by far, in my opinion. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
And I think Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis being out surged his worker of the year candidacy because he had to put up those numbers. Now if you put up the same numbers as Con Knipple did, the 18 points, he would have been rookie of the year easily because the Mavericks would have had a way better record than they did this season.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, and Cooper Flag wouldn't have put up those numbers. I thought he was going to be a 15, 8, probably 5 guy at the most. And all of a sudden it's like, no, no, we need a whole lot more. We need a whole lot more from you. We need like everything you got. And if you're putting up 40 points in a few games. He had a few games where, you know, 30 and 10, you know, those things don't happen. So what he did was pretty spectacular. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
And he's probably more comfortable in this position because ever since he could touch a basketball, he's been the go to guy on his team.
Dan Patrick
He had six games with at least 30 points, five rebounds, five assists. That's one more than everybody else in the rookie class combined. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. That passed out of the day. Averaging 21, 6.7 rebounds, 4 and a half assists per game. So he joins Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Luca as the only rookies since 1970 to average those numbers per game. And you know, when you think about. Bird was probably 24 when he came in. Michael had spent a couple of years in college and Luca, I don't know how old Luca was when he got here. Was he 20? Marvin?
Marvin
I think he was 20, but he played like eight years professionally in Europe, so.
Dan Patrick
He did. He did. All right. Dylan, what kind of poll question you got for me today to start out first hour?
Dylan
Well, Dan, I was going to ask who deserved the NBA rookie of the year, Cooper Flag or Con Canepel, but it sounds like that's pretty cut and dry.
Dan Patrick
Yes, it is.
Dylan
If you took out that little run that Cooper Flag had at the end of the season though, he went like the 50, 40, 30 game.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but I can't. All right, hypothetically, like he did it. No, do it. No, he, he did. He did it. So I can't take that out and, and show me. Rookies hit the wall. All these rookies normally hit the wall. They talk about it. There's certain number of games. I don't know what it is. You know, it might be 60 games or 50 games where they hit the wall. They're not used to playing this many games in a season. The fact that Cooper Flag was that much better at the end of the year tells me an awful lot about him.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, I have that wall you talked about in March when Cooper Flag got to game 50. For the next three weeks he averaged 19 points a game. That was a dip because he was average like 22 before that. But the last three weeks of the season he averaged 29 points per game. He also led the NBA in minutes the last three weeks.
Announcer
This.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean this isn't a normal 19 year old and he's not sneaky, athletic. He's not, he's, he's going to be great. And I think if you watch him play now, you know, I'm going to be nitpicky here. I didn't like his jump shot when he was in college and. But those are things you work on. I thought that, you know, he wasn't a knock down shooter. I'd love for him to study Kevin Durant and kind of get in that comfort zone in that two point range. Now everybody wants to shoot threes, but I think he'll be able to get his shot because he can beat you off the dribble. He can take it to the hoop. But I thought his jump shot was a little slow and once again, I'm just nitpicking here. But you get those go to moves that everybody knows what you're going to do and they can't stop you. That's when you know you've, you elevate your game to. He's going to go over there and he's going to take the jump shot or he's going to go left and beat me off the dribble. And you know it and you still can't stop it. That's the fun part. When you watch younger players, what do they add to their games? Speaking of adding to Their games. Detroit needs to add somebody who can score because Cade Cunningham, I'm looking at usage. There's only two players who have the ball more. Their usage rate is higher than him. Man. I think what Orlando is doing is just we're going to make you work for everything. Cade Cunningham has to work for everything and they don't have that second score. That's part of the problem here with Detroit. And give Orlando credit. I mean that was 1990s basketball last night. The entire series has been that way. But Detroit relies on Cade Cunningham too much. He's the only guy who can get a bucket. Jalen Duran, he can get points but usually pick and roll or offensive rebounds, put backs. But if you look at great teams, the Thunder have SGA and Jalen Williams, Celtics, Tatum and Brown, Nuggets, Joker, Murray, warriors when they won, Stephen, Clay, Bucks when they won, Giannis, Chris Middleton, Lakers, LeBron and Adam. And turnovers are killing Detroit. You have 20 turnovers last night that created 23 points for Orlando. It wasn't pretty. But you don't get extra points for aesthetics. It's go out there and win a game. And when people say playoff basketball is different, if you watch last night, that's playoff basketball. Everything matters. We're going to make. You know, this is where you, you know you have to win this game. If you're Detroit, you're down three one now you have to win that game last night. So every possession matters. And the physicality was on display last night and Orlando didn't back down. I think we think of Detroit as, you know, that's a rough and tumble team. Orlando did not back and they didn't play well. Jalen Suggs made one more basket than I did last night. Powell Bancro had four baskets last night and they won. Yes, Marv.
Marvin
And the difference is they have guys like Franz Wagner and Desmond Bain who can get you buckets. And the thing is the Pistons are looking like the first LeBron stint Cavaliers team where it's him and a bunch of guys, especially in the playoffs. We're going to stop you and make Tobias Harris try to beat us.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Tobias Harris maybe five years ago, but I don't want him to be my second option. But you're watching Kate Cunningham and Orlando is basically saying, you're not beating us. Everybody else has to.
Paulie
Yeah, Paul the Magic player, Franz Wagner, as I like to call him. In the past 24 hours I've heard him called Franz Wagner, Franz Wagner and then Franz Wagner. I'm not sure which one is Right.
Dan Patrick
I'm going to go with the Wagner.
Paulie
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Like if I was Franz Wagner, I
Paulie
would go with that because otherwise it's Frank Wagner, which.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Frankie Wagner is not scaring me. Franz Wagner is like, whoa, whoa, whoa. Who is this guy?
Paulie
Might be an umlaut in there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, sounds like somebody who is performing concerto. Ladies and gentlemen, Franz Wagner. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
And I was shocked. I think he was a lottery pick.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
Frank Wagner goes in the late second round.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
Franz Wagner is a lottery pick.
Dan Patrick
Franz Wagner. Sneaky, athletic too.
Marvin
It is the worst when they're like, oh man, con canyble sneak. You don't sneak up on anybody. If you go to Duke, you don't sneak up on anyone. I know you're a top five prospect.
Paulie
Yes, Paul, if Frank Kaminsky from Wisconsin were Franz Kaminsky, he would have been multi time all star.
Dan Patrick
Damn.
Paulie
No doubt he's a good player.
Marvin
Franz Kaminski, stretch four.
Dan Patrick
Alrighty. Did you come up with a poll question?
Dylan
Well, I put that one up, Dan, just to see what the people were going to say. But we could also have another NBA poll. If you remove the Thunder, who's winning the title?
Dan Patrick
I'm going to take my spurs, you know, with Wemby back. Although I've been praising the Celtics since gosh, probably November with Jaylen Brown with what he's done. I love watching that team. They're fun. They got a lot of different players that can come at you and score and I don't know what the east, how it's going to, you know, shape up. But if Detroit gets knocked off, you know, I know there's always the element of the Knicks in there, but you know, you're kind of looking for. Who is that? Really potential. Great team, Good team. Goodish team. Boston's really good. Yes.
Marvin
Marv, Is there going to be like a Indiana Pacers type of run for another team where it's like they made the finals?
Dan Patrick
Who would it be?
Marvin
That's a great question.
Dan Patrick
Like, is Orlando going to be the Pacers this year if they would happen to win this series?
Marvin
I mean, you're not, you're not scared of anybody in the East. Like you're not scared.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you shouldn't be. I don't know if anybody gets scared of anybody. Like who gets scared? You're never going to hear somebody go, man, we're scared of.
Marvin
Well, you know what? They're a scary team like the Thunder. That's a scary, like, you know what? We're not scared of them. I don't think we can beat them.
Dan Patrick
Maybe you're it's scary how good they are, but they don't scare you, correct?
Marvin
Yes, yes.
Dan Patrick
I mean, they're grown men. They're not like, come on, you got to come out of the locker room.
Marvin
No, that's the worst part about the whole Michael Jordan myth mythology, man. We were scared of death to Michael Jordan. You were scared. Reggie Miller coming up soon, was not scared of Reggie.
Dan Patrick
Was not. No, you can't be scared. John Starks wasn't afraid of Michael Jordan.
Marvin
Right. These guys were taking him to seven. Never got to seven games in the finals, but he sure did in the Eastern Conference.
Dan Patrick
All righty. There's another story that's going on that's pretty wild now. I'm trying to get information on it, and it has to do with a college quarterback who might have been betting on his team when he was at another school. Here's the story that is right now one of the biggest stories in sports and it's Brendan Sorsby and college football's first big gambling scandal. So Sorsby was at Indiana and then he went to Cincinnati and now he's going to Texas Tech. And he was the number one recruit. He was the number one portal recruit and Texas Tech paid dearly for him. There's talk that it's over $5 million that they paid. Pete Thamel, the Mothership reported yesterday the NCAA is investigating the quarterback for making thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app. So he's up there for the Heisman this year. He's thought of as maybe a first round draft pick. He is checked into a treatment program. The school announced that yesterday to address a gambling addiction. Now it used to be that you would have gamblers who would prey on kids who didn't have money, which was most of the know college players, certainly basketball players. You could give them whatever you were going to give them $500 to help fix a game. And then once you fixed one game, then the mafia had you because then what are you going to do if you don't fix the next game? We're going to tell on you. So now these kids have money, they have disposable income. So it's not that, hey, we're going to go after those guys to try to fix a game. This, this goes back to nil. If I go back six years ago, seven years ago, now we're getting the first generation of nil athletes that you do have money and you can bet and it's so easy to bet now, you might have buddies, they're going to be betting on something or you're going to be the big guy on campus that you're betting on. Hey, I bet on Indiana to win the game. Well, wait a minute, aren't you a quarterback on the team? Yeah, but I'm betting on my team to win. Go Back to Pete Rose. When Pete told me many, many years ago, first time he ever acknowledged this, he said to me, I bet on the Reds to win every game. As if that was going to take away the sting of, hey, he was gambling on baseball. Hey, I bet on my team, but I bet on them to win. Well, there was more information that didn't come out when Pete told me that because there were certain pitchers I was told Pete didn't bet on to win games for the Cincinnati Reds. But this going back to this college quarterback, Brendan Sorsby. So you're betting and maybe, you know, it starts out harmless and I, I know the playbook here. It starts out harmless and hey, I'm betting on my team to win. And he wasn't a big factor. They had Michael Penix Jr. I think there at the time at Indiana, so he wasn't playing much. And then he transferred to Cincinnati and played pretty well. And now he's at Texas Tech. It's so easy to gamble. Now. This is what I don't understand. And I mean, I'm going to give you, you know, total transparency. I don't have the answers to this. I am trying to get answers to this, but I'll start with this. If I'm going to gamble and let's say it's, you know, DraftKings, FanDuel, we're sponsored by DraftKings. If, if I'm going to put my information in, I would imagine that the, the database for these gambling apps, they would know who you are. They need to know, like, your last three or four addresses, like that, you know, so they're vetting you. I just don't know how you can gamble. And these gambling sites who are trying to protect themselves, that they don't know that he's a college quarterback, that you're going to get his address, you have to put your address in. Unless he's betting through somebody else. But I don't know this, but it seems like just to protect yourself, if you're DraftKings or FanDuel or some of these other gambling sites, if you're vetting these, you know, students and, and trust me, go on a college campus and ask. Or if you have, you know, kids who are in college right now, how often do you gamble? Not do you gamble? How often do you gamble? It is rampant now. You might say, what's $50 or what's $100? Okay, but then what happens when it's 500 or when you lose and it's now $11,000 and then you might say, well, I don't have a problem, or, okay, when do you have a problem? What is the problem? What information do you have as an athlete? What if you got buddies and you say, hey, you know who's not playing in the game? The running back. You're giving information here. So it is a slippery slope. And I'm not being hypocritical in the sense of I used to gamble. I don't. I stopped. I needed to stop. Could I have had a problem? Absolutely. If you're 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, do you have the wherewithal to go, I gotta stop. Or, man, this could be a problem here. And you can have fun with this. Okay, but small bets. But when you chase, that's when it becomes a bigger bet. Brendan Sorsby can't be gambling on football. No money. But I know there's ways to do that. Now, what happens to him? You go into a treatment program. I don't know if there's somebody in our audience who can call in, because I don't know the answer to this. When you go into a gambling rehabilitation center, how do they help you stop gambling? Obviously, you know, aa, you know, in my family tree, I. I've been aware of that, of what they try to do to help you. Drug addiction. I don't know how you approach somebody who is a gambler. Like, what are the steps when you go in? Because if I take away drugs from you, I take away alcohol from you, Well, I. I take away the opportunity to gamble. Does that rehabilitate you? How does that rehabilitate you? So I'm asking, because I would love to pass that on to the audience, because I'm not quite sure, but I've said this, I'll say this. Until I'm done doing this show, we are a big name away from doing real damage to a sport. And this is a pretty big name. Okay, you may not know him, but he is a. He's considered one of the probably five to seven best college quarterbacks right now. We walk the line. It's a slippery slope. I say this. DraftKings has been a great partner on this show, but I always tell you, if you make it fun, then, you know, you can. You can embrace this. It's when you think you're going to be out, you're going to outsmart. You're never outsmarting the smart people in Vegas. You just won't. And I always say to people, when you gamble, you rent money, you're not keeping it. You're renting it and you're going to be giving it back pretty much guaranteed. Because when I go to Vegas and I see all those big buildings, you help build those big buildings. Yeah.
Paulie
Pauline, a couple things on the Scoresby accusations. He is accused of betting on Indiana to win when he was a freshman and barely playing. The NCAA has a strict policy about gambling by intercollegiate athletes on any sport, but it doesn't differentiate whether you bet for or against your team. That, that would not factor in that much in the violation.
Dan Patrick
NCAA had a study in 2023 estimating that 60% of college students had bet on sports at least once. That number's got to be probably 75% now. So this, this football player was doing what many of his classmates were doing, but he was getting $5 million and getting $5 million from the school. But now what do you do if you're the ncaa? All right. Let him get treatment. Do you let him come back. The NCAA investigating. What are you going to find out? Did he bet on Indiana to win all the time? Did he bet against Indiana at any point? Did he give information? Were there weekends where he didn't bet on his team because he knew something was up? So there's a lot of different factors that are kind of swirling around this. But in Vegas does a great job in policing this because they have to. That's their business. It's just the number of athletes who think nobody is going to notice. And there's a report that the University of Cincinnati knew of his gambling problems when he was there before he transferred to Texas Tech. But I don't know what the NCAA is going to do. You know, go back to Terrell Pryor, Ohio State star quarterback. And he was in some of his teammates, they were trading in some of their merchandise, memorabilia, jerseys, for tattoos to get free tattoos. Terrell Pryor was getting suspended for five games. He got suspended going into the NFL before he got there, because the NFL, I don't know what, why they were allowed to do it, but they said, oh, you're, you're leaving college football, you're still going to be punished. Five games. Jim Trestle never recovered. The Ohio State coach, and that was just for tattoos. And he was just the head coach. And his players did this. Fast forward to this. And you got a player betting on college football. Yeah. Polling.
Paulie
Another thing I found. You asked if DraftKings and FanDuel and other sports books have mechanisms to identify college athletes. They do, but it's relatively new in the past two, three years. And they don't have every player on every team automatically. It has to be. There's a lot of information to deal with, but they do identify if a college athlete is betting with their portal.
Dan Patrick
Once again, Pete Thammel, the mothership says that Sorsby was a red shirt freshman and he was betting on Indiana to win games. So I don't know what the NCAA is going to find out here. What happens to this kid going into rehab. I don't know how long you're in rehab. Patrick in Chicago. Hi, Patrick. What's on your mind today?
Announcer
Hey, Dan, how you doing?
Dan Patrick
Good.
Announcer
Well, we got ourselves an epidemic going on here. Yeah, I mean, to see the refs, the higher ups. I mean, everybody's got an opportunity here to cash in on this and it's easy, you know, there's no way to stop this.
Dan Patrick
Well, you can monitor it. I mean, that's all I'm asking the NCAA if, if there's a data bank that you can make sure your athletes are registered or you know who they are. Now, I know there's thousands of them, but chances are somebody's gambling on something. Maybe it's not football, maybe it was March Madness, but it just feels like there these leagues are all vulnerable here in official and. And I'll go back to what I've said before. You don't think you're going to get caught. It's like John Tay Porter, Michael Porter's brother, who was with Toronto. Marginal player, prop bets. Nobody's going to notice until you put up enough money. Where Vegas goes, I'm gonna flag that. That's what happens. You tell somebody. It doesn't stop there. You tell them, they tell somebody who tells somebody who tells somebody who tells somebody who tells somebody. Then you get an amount of money where you flag it. And that's what happens in a lot of these cases. Mike in New Jersey. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind?
Announcer
What's up, Dan? I got two things, and I'll try to keep them quick, but also add the gravity to it. Once upon a time when I was a kiddo, I had, you know, some of these proclivities to do the same thing again and again. So I ended up in one of these spots where someone will come and talk to us. And we had a guy come in from the Gamblers Anonymous. And I'll tell you, his stories were a lot more terrifying than a lot of the other addictions because this guy always felt like, I can always take this back. Like at one point this addiction will pay off so much so he Lived in North Jersey. He would put something in a drink with his wife to get her drowsy drive to Atlantic City. So hours away, place his bets, get back to North Jersey by the time he had to take his kids to school in the morning. And the entire time he's on the road at the casino, he's telling himself, I'll never do this again. I will never do this again. And then it happens weekly and then daily. And he got caught up in some pretty, pretty bad folks. I mean, it's Jersey. And then the second piece I want to say is I think this is just kind of the start because one of the things I got in trouble for was I had a lot of transactional thoughts. And it's a matter of time before one of these not, not like a big name show, but probably like a podcast or something that's sponsored by so and so somebody from one of those companies is going to say, well, what if you worded the game this way if you want to keep your sponsorship? Or what if you worded the line this way? Or maybe so and so might not be. And once that starts, it's over. Once that starts, the integrity of all of the game.
Dan Patrick
Well, there is so much information out there if you want to find it. Depending on if you're an insider or reporter, there's a lot of information that, that's exchanged and it almost feels like it's commonplace where somebody talks about somebody and you ask and oh yeah, somebody's a little banged up, probably not playing little things. All you're looking for is an edge. That's it. What is the edge that I have?
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, I went back and looked at the 2022 season for Indiana football, where allegedly Sorsby bet on Indiana every game to win. They were 4 and 8. So that means he was a big loser that year. Now, it doesn't say in the article that he bet on them to win outright moneyline or bet on them to cover, which is a big differentiation. But he would have been a big loser that year if he bet. I'm going to win every week.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but he's, he's going to be trying to play at Texas Tech and chance to be a first round pick. There's also the supplemental draft. I don't know if it still is around. There was, you know, supplemental draft there for a while, but if he can't play in college, could he go, you know, somebody's going to have a fifth round, fourth round pick that they could use on this kid. But then do you want to take a chance on somebody who's involved in this in college? Yeah. Paul.
Paulie
The supplemental draft is rarely used by the NFL. It's for extreme situations and it usually has to declare would do with ineligibility. It was used in 19, 20, 15, so every couple years for a specific player or two.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Paulie
This would be one of those cases.
Dan Patrick
We're gonna. And once again, I have a great source with college football, college athletics. I'm gonna see if I can get on this. But this is fluid, as they say. It's being investigated. Yes.
Marvin
Todd, should there or will there be,
Dan Patrick
you think, any leniency because he's getting help, Whether it was something that he came to the conclusion of himself or
Marvin
he was forced into this treatment or
Dan Patrick
whatever they're going to be doing for him? Well, I think that's the first step that if you're not seeking help, then NCAA is probably not going to be very lenient. But if you would, if you go into a treatment program, you're admitting to something. You're not going in. If there's nothing wrong or you don't feel anything's wrong, you're going in because now it could be just smoke. Hey, I'm going in for treatment. Well, if you're going in, I don't know how long you stay in. I don't know what happens when somebody is a gambling addict, but we're four months away from the season. Take a break. Hey dp, thanks for having me back. I got a show suggestion and a show request if you'll allow the suggestion. A couple weeks ago on Stephen's last day, Paul rejoined the 1215 club and there was a lot of like behind the scenes talk including some of their like non verbal communication back and forth and stuff like that. And I think the audience would appreciate on a separate podcast or even on this show, you know, delving diving more into that. I think everybody would appreciate that. And then the request kind of like you have the live gong. I think Marv's favorite drop is the drum and cymbal for when somebody usually Fritz, who says a bad joke. If you got him a live drum and cymbal, I think he would enjoy that and that would be pretty sick for everybody.
Dan Patrick
All right, well, thank you, Eric. Marvin, do you play the drums?
Marvin
Oh, the little bits.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But I don't need a like you're doing it live. I already have the sound effect, so
Marvin
should I get a drum kit?
Dan Patrick
Do you want one?
Marvin
You know what, I think this is good enough.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yeah, yeah. Dylan, I mean do you want a
Dylan
live band or a DJ if you're at a wedding? We want the live band, man.
Dan Patrick
That's tricky. I like a live band.
Amazon Advertiser
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I like the energy instead of just somebody standing up behind a podium unless Diplo is up there. You know, I kind of like that live band feel. Andrew in Washington Hi, Andrew. What's on your mind? Good morning, Dan.
Caller Andrew
Dan it. Thanks for taking my call. Just a couple of cleanups on. On certain aisles and then a comment about the gambling and just addiction and treatment. But first of all, last week actually, Frank Caliendo was so good. He did two impressions in one where he mentioned Buddha in San Francisco, but then did Gus in la. So just wanted to put Gus's name out there because that's what the impression was. Secondly, speaking of betting, I did lose a bet to Paulie about the first round. Two quarterbacks did go, not just one. So how does he want me to pay that off? He want pie in the face. Would you rather have a Pacific Northwest beer package? Whichever one he chooses. And then just on gambling and addiction, you know, you said in your family lineage there's a well verse in AA in different things. You know that when we go into these treatment centers for whatever addiction we have, the addiction is just a symptom. And so there's a behavior or something otherwise that we're trying to gain that feeling and continue to chase after to get that to cover up something else. So, you know, the person just doesn't have to look at and say, oh, well, I don't like to. I can't go on my phone. I can't push 50 bucks. I can't decide which one. They really have to be willing to look inside and see what is the driving force behind that and be willing to open up a few layers to deal with that, to get away from hiding it through these different symptoms, whether it be drugs, alcohol, gambling or whatever they're in treatment for.
Dan Patrick
All right, thank you, Andrew. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
Yeah. For the bet with Andrew. I did win. I was thinking he can stop by the set next year in D.C. where we're at the draft, and I will pie him up. So we get that.
Dan Patrick
I think he's in the state of Washington.
Paulie
Oh, I thought he was in D.C.
Dan Patrick
no, I think he's in the state of Washington.
Paulie
If there's a draft in.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. The Pacific Northwest, then. Oh, yeah. If it gets to Seattle, then maybe you could do that. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
But Paulie's request still stands. So Andrew come from Washington state and
Dylan
come to D.C. that's a bet punishment. You have to fly across the country
Dan Patrick
just to get a pie to the face.
Dylan
Just to get a pie to the face.
Dan Patrick
Dylan, would you update the poll results from the first hour of the program?
Dylan
Yes, Dan. So hold on finding there. Who would you have voted for for NBA Rookie of the Year 67 say Cooper Flag 32 though, on the knipple train.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that's fine.
Dylan
And then if you remove the thunder, who's winning the NBA title? 48 are going Celtics.
Dan Patrick
Okay, fine with that too. Spurs are going to be fun. I like the Celtics though. I think they're they've been getting better. Like, okay, OKC started out great. San Antonio is getting better. Boston's getting better. Reggie Miller will join us in 30 minutes from now.
