I also wanna address the Tonys. On a recent episode of Checking in with Michelle Williams, I open up about feeling snubbed by the Tony Awards. Do I? I was never mad. I was disappointed because I had high hopes to hear this and more on disappointment and protecting your peace. I know a lot of cops. They get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. This is Absolute Season one, Taser Incorporated.
I get right back there and it's bad.

Remember MoviePass? All the movies you wanted for just nine bucks. I'm Bridget Todd, host of There Are no Girls on the Internet. And this season I'm digging into the tech stories we weren't told, starting with Stacey Spikes, the Black founder of MoviePass who got pushed out of the company he built.
Covino
Everybody's trying to knock you down and it's not gonna work and no one's gonna like it. And then, boom, it's everywhere. And that was that moment.

Summer's here, and with the kids home and off to camp, it's easy for moms to get lost in the shuffle. On Good Moms Bad Choices. We're making space to center ourselves with joy, rest and pleasure. Take the kids to camp. You know what? It was expensive, but I was also thinking, you have my kid. This is kind of priceless. Take her, feed her, make core memories. I don't have to do main thing. I don't have to do anything to hear this and more. Listen to Good Mom's Bad Choices from Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Covino
You are listening to the Dan Patrick.
Rich
Show on Fox Sports Radio. Oh, yeah. Doing it live.
Covino
It's great to be here. Live from the MLB All Star Village in Atlanta. It's the ultimate baseball hotspot and you can be part of the excitement here at Capital One All Star Village. Through tomorrow. Head to the Comp Galleria for baseball fun, live entertainment like us. Yeah. We're here representing interactive games. Buy tickets today@allstargame.com I'm Covino, that is Rich. It's a pleasure to be in for Dan Patrick and a bigger pleasure to be here for your MLB All Stars.
Rich
I'm so excited. I'm looking around the All Star Village. As much as I want to do the show, I see that you could take batting practice. There's little booths and demonstrations and fan fest fun. I want to just honestly go hang.
Covino
Over there for a little while now. Rich and I have been going to super bowl and sporting events forever. Broadcasting live from major events for years. Nothing brings out the little kid in you like MLB FanFest All Star Break. And it's so over the top. I often feel like maybe our parents didn't love us because they never took us to anything like this.
Rich
Your parents bought you every video game and your 30 something pairs of Cavari cheese, but they did not bring you to an All Star Village.
Covino
No. I mean, but my mom did buy me bases loaded for $75 for Nintendo when it came out.
Rich
Steven, I love you.
Covino
RBI is still the greatest game of all time, but it didn't exist in this way to be fair. Fair baseball is popping like we haven't seen it in years. And it's truly representing right now. And it's just getting started. Rich and I got in late last night. Atlanta, Great to be here. We haven't been here in a minute. It's beautiful. Everybody's really kind. That's my first observation, actually. Lots of big booties in Atlanta.
Rich
I've noticed the booties and kindness.
Covino
So that was my first observation.
Rich
You can get behind, right? Yeah. Big booties and kindness.
Covino
Big booties and kindness. Who's gonna hate on that? It's very humid here, but it's very beautiful and it's great to be back. So we got in late last night and you know, we hit the gym. We just settled in, got some dinner and everything to get ready for today and we get to the hit the gym.
Rich
You know you're not in the derby tonight, right?
Covino
Mentally, I am.
Rich
Just want to make sure you know this.
Covino
Hey, everybody represents and rocks their colors, and we'll explain it all. But we get to the convention center today, the Cobb Galleria, and we're just looking around. Like Rich said, there's pitching machines and batting cages and fast pitch and, you know, just every logo and every team represented. You could pose next to, like, the cardboard cutouts of the stars. It's like, there's so much for kids and so much for the ultimate fan. It's not just for kids, believe me. I feel like a kid just being here. I'm so pumped about it. And my theory is this, Rich, like I said, we've been to so many events and so many different things. I think when it comes to baseball, yeah, I'm a big baseball fan. So are you. But I think it's because it's our first true love and our first true dream. Meaning, yeah, we all love football. It's America's game. We go crazy for football. The off season, we're still talking about football. And maybe you love basketball, but I think we were all introduced to sports and dreaming with baseball.
Rich
No doubt. When you were a little kid, I want to be the shortstop of the Yankees or Dodgers or Cubs. Like, that was your dream.
Covino
You got into Little League. You're like, this is what I'm gonna do. This is my passion. This is what I collect. This is what I'm into. These are the colors I represent. Like, this is what I'm about. So I feel like when you're surrounded by in this way, that's when you feel like a kid the most, and it makes you feel great. You don't have to have kids to be here. But I highly suggest, wherever it is, next year, I'm hoping to be back, and I hope to see you there.
Rich
Because it's fantastic as we fill in for Dan Patrick, who, by the way, I think he's celebrating the next couple days, his big Family Feud win. Is that what they decided to.
Covino
Congrats.
Rich
By the way, how great was Marvin and Fritzi and Seaton and the whole crew on Family Feud?
Covino
I mean, life goals, Rich. One day we'll be there. We'll take Iowa, Sam, just to watch him act frantic, by the way, Iowa. See him back in the studio.
Rich
What's up, Sam?
Covino
Hello. Playing the glockenspiel. And he's on the phones at 877-99-FOX. Super producer David G. Is here, and the video is up. Courtesy of Spot at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Again, live from Atlanta.
Rich
Now there's drama surrounding the All Star Game. We're gonna get to that. We're gonna talk some NFL, we'll talk some NBA. LeBron's in the news. But before we get to the the fun drama surrounding mlb.
Covino
You mean all star drama?
Rich
Oh, there's all star drama.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
I did want to point out I watched a movie on the flight that I had not seen in maybe 30 years. You know when you haven't seen a movie in so long that you almost feel like you're watching it for the first time again?
Covino
You're gonna interrupt my love gush of baseball to tell what you watched on the plane?
Rich
It's worth it.
Covino
Okay.
Danny G
I've never seen somebody have Dumbo on their flight screen.
Rich
What a movie, Danny.
Covino
Exactly.
Rich
I watched a movie that I had not seen in easily 30 years, to the point where I was like, I watch it through kids eyes now as a grown up. I'm like, let me watch it again.
Covino
What does Willy Wonka have to do with the All Star game?
Rich
I watched Field of Dreams.
Covino
Oh, okay.
Rich
It was one of the Delta free movies on the flight. And watching it now, I'm like, you.
Covino
Shed one, didn't you, @ the end?
Rich
Yes, dad.
Covino
Is this heaven?
Rich
No, I thought of. I was Sam. No, it's Iowa. I was like, I was Sam.
Covino
How do we not have that clip, by the way? There's a lot of MLB executives here. Yeah, it's a big weekend, obviously a big week. I should say maybe we tell them we go to the Iowa game, we go to the Field of Dreams game. Let's go and broadcast, dude, I want to get out there and see that.
Rich
But let me tell you, watching Field of Dreams, it made you realize no one at any point was like, kevin Costner needs to go to the loony bin. Most of that movie. He was seeing things and everyone's like, yeah, he's building a stadium.
Covino
He's seeing people hearing things. If you build it, he will come. Imagine that. But what a great and magical.
Rich
Because it's a magical and great movie. The endings beautiful. And it really is more of a. I, I almost consider it. Certainly not sci fi, but like, by the way, simple fact that most of that movie he's just seeing and hearing things. And everyone's like, man, he's building a baseball.
Covino
Someone give me a baseball to throw at Rich. Anyone have a cleat I could throw at this guy? Because he's acting like he's never seen the movie ever. Way to take us back to 19. What? 99. I don't know. And I also want to strangle you. Because we often talk about the natural and how magical that movie is. And I don't think you've ever seen it.
Rich
Never seen it. You're the biggest baseball. It's the only baseball classic movie I haven't seen.
Covino
Yeah, you gotta see these.
Rich
You know what parts of it. Which is not enough. I know.
Covino
I make so many Roy Hobbs references and wonder boy references. This guy doesn't even know what I'm talking.
Rich
That's the bad. You know, I. I have. I might have been high when I watch it. I don't know.
Covino
But again, it's very magical movie. When he hits the home run. Yeah, lights. It's very magical in that way. But feel the dreams. For sure, man. It's a classic. I love it and my guys in it. Ray Liotta, from my hometown of Union, New Jersey. Shoeless Joe Jackson. Dude.
Rich
Now we. We get on to the drum of the All Star break. But I did want to mention that I had watched that movie on the plane. And Spot did look over me. We were sitting next to each other. He watched. I could tell he was watching to see if I cried. Because there was the end. You know, at the end he was staring at me. He's like, I want to see. He wanted to see if I was crying on the plane.
Covino
Not even that.
Unknown Host
I wasn't even listening to it.
Covino
I didn't have headphones in.
Rich
I was crying.
Covino
That's how emotional that movie is. It's beautiful. He gets to have a catch with his dad and they come and beautiful. It's magical.
Danny G
I cried when they served the French toast.
Rich
Oh, Danny G. Was loving that French toast on the plane.
Covino
No, I skipped that. To not sound. Not to sound lavish. I guess it was a first class trip that we took here to make it even better. So we got served breakfast yesterday. What an experience. Rich cried watching a movie from 30 years ago.
Rich
You know who else is crying? Perfect segue. Trey Turner and a bunch of Philadelphia Philly weenie crybabies. Wow, Philly, did you see what's going on? They are all.
Danny G
He's a Mets fan, by the way.
Rich
Phil, I don't know if I feel.
Covino
The same way as you. I'm actually glad that they're passionate about the All Star game.
Rich
Well, you know what? There is. You could argue both sides. You're glad they're passionate. But you could also say, what a bunch of crybabies. And I have to be careful about saying, let's go Mets. Too loud around here because we're also in Atlanta Braves territory.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
So.
Covino
So should I not bring up 1996? Yeah. Should I not bring up Jim Layrits as a Yankees fan? I would not.
Rich
I wouldn't want to bring up Jay Jim Layritz, no matter what. Is it prison?
Covino
He changed. No, he's not. And he changed the whole series around 1996. Dude. So look, there's a lot of people crying about the MLB All Star Game turning into the Savannah Bananas. And it's one big joke.
Rich
Says who? Nick Castellano.
Covino
Nick Castellano says Trey Turner says some of the Phillies. And that's why we title this conversation. Phillies are crybabies. Yes or no? I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it because I'm thinking. I'm leaning towards no. Because I do believe, I strongly believe that you entering the All Star Game should be on merit alone. It should be on your stats. I think the fans just vote in whoever's a popularity contest. And that's why you see nothing but Yankees and Dodgers in the All Star Game. And I'm a Yankees fan. I don't think that's fair.
Rich
It's not Yankee or Dodger. Heavy with the starters.
Covino
Not with the starters.
Rich
You got three Dodgers, but well deserved. Will Smith, Freddie and Shohei. You can't argue. They don't deserve it. I will say. Let me explain. If people like, what do you mean? The Phillies or Crab race? The Phillies. When I say Phillies, Trey Turner, Nick Castellanos and some of the leaders on that team are saying it's a joke that brewers rookie pitcher Misorowski Jacob Mizrowski. Yeah. Is on the All Star team.
Covino
Now.
Rich
I heard them talking about this during the Mets broadcast yesterday. Ron Darling, former pitcher, is the Mets broadcaster and he said, you know, like, first of all, the sentiment to get down on this kid is ridiculous. He's just a kid that got elected. So there should be no hate directed towards this young star pitcher.
Covino
Nothing about him personally. This is about the decision because here's why. He's only had five starts in the bigs. They call him the Miz Jacob Mizrowski. So out of five starts, he's 4. 1. He's looking dominant. 2.81 ERA, 33 strikeouts in his five starts. But here's why it's a big deal. He's a rookie pitcher and this is the shortest outing ever for someone to make an All Star.
Rich
Do you mean he's played five games in his big league career and he's an All Star? The record before that was Paul Skeens last year, and that was 11. And people at that time were like, you know, he's got the goods. We remember him at LSU.
Covino
No.
Rich
1, he was a star.
Covino
No one batted an eye at that selection last year because he came out so dominant, was so highly touted, was throwing gas, throwing cheese. Huge star in Pittsburgh. So no one said anything about that. But he became the guy with the shortest amount of starts. 11 starts. So this is five starts. And it gets people talking. But again, you got to remember reporters are asking questions, too. That's the other thing. What do you want these players to do? Lie to you? Do you want them to not care? That's the other thing. So Rich is a Mets fan. He's saying they're crybabies. That is the overall sentiment here. I'm saying I'm glad they care, and I'm actually surprised that they're speaking out this way. It's almost refreshing because baseball players are usually reserved and boring.
Rich
Here's my thought. Like you always say, as the tortilla girl would say, why not both flour.
Covino
And corn tortillas is the old El Paso tortilla girl. You make the reference. Get it? He says it all the time.
Rich
My favorite reference. Why not both? They could be cry babies with a point, right? Like, how many times have you to complain about something where you seem like, hey, dude, complaining.
Covino
Behind the scenes, they call us complaino. And that's not true. Because we do. We complain a lot. Because sometimes. And I hate this saying, I hate it more than anything, but you hear it at the workplace all the time. Squeaky wheel gets the oil, gets the grease, whatever it is.
Rich
The furthest thing from a complainer.
Covino
But sometimes you have to speak up when you've seen injustice. Is Nick Castellanos, Trey Turner. Are these guys in the wrong when it comes to this selection?
Rich
Well, Kyle Schwaber, home run Beastadon said, quote, it's unfortunate, but I wish my teammates were there. We know what we have, and I think we're grateful for what we have. But they went on to say, Trey Turner said, what a joke. It's effing terrible. I mean, it's terrible, dude. J.T. raymolto said, that's just how MLB does it. Now, nothing against the Mizorowski kid, but those two, Sanchez and Suarez, his two teammates, are deserving of being on that team in the first place. There's no doubt. And then they went on to say, Castellano said, turning into the Savannah bananas. Listen, the kid has five starts. It's a Little premature, but why would baseball not hype up their young dudes? Every other sport does it. You're telling me that, dude, all eyes are on freaking Ronnie James or whatever young NBA guy gets a shot.
Covino
Hey, if the Miz is the next guy, if he's the next Paul Skeens, and they're confident in that, I've got no problem with it. If he's the brewers superstar, that everyone's super pumped about it, let the rookie shine. Let him do his thing. He now has to deliver. It's like. It's like when we talk about nepotism, right? It can only get you so far. You have to deliver at some point. Yeah, he got in because there's some hype around him. But now he has to show up and be the man. And speaking of nepotism, there's a lot of famous names in baseball that were drafted, and we gotta talk about that. But was it a snub? Was Trey Turner snubbed? Turner slashed.299 with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs, 22 stolen bases, ranked among the top 15 players in WAR and wasn't selected as a reserve. So, I mean, was he gonna start over? Marte Lindor, I should say. Actually, Lindor is.
Rich
Get out of here.
Covino
Yeah. So.
Rich
But I don't think he says he was snubbed.
Covino
No, but there are people saying that, well, he's a star. He should be there. And again, I'm thinking, no, I get it. Fans have a say. So you got to be a popular player, but you also have to have that hype and those stats to back it up.
Rich
So let me ask you is the. I think we could sell this again with multiple angles. But number one, when you go to an All Star game or watch it on TV or partake in this, we're lucky to be here. Do you want to see the stars and the young, exciting people that are, you know, are creating the conversation, or do you want to see the people with the stats that deserve it? I'm all about earning it. But the reality is, what do you think these kids and the. And the big baseball fans want to see? I want to see Mizorowski get out there and throw an inning. He's the young star.
Covino
He's the guy. If he's the next Skeens. Yeah. Then I'm all for it.
Rich
Why would you resist it? No other sport or anything in the entertainment world or music or anything for that. That would be like saying, there's a hot new musician. Well, they can't perform live at the Grammys. They've only had one or two hits. No, because if they're the hot s at the time, put them out there. Why would. If you're the National League, you're telling me that you wouldn't want Skeens and Mizorowski at least during an inning in the All Star game?
Covino
Well, here's the thing. Everybody has a different path in life. You see that guy at the office you hate on him because he got promoted quickly. Hey, maybe he's a rock star and you're not. That's just the truth. And it's easy to hate on that path because you're probably working hard to do your thing. But hey, this guy has some buzz around them and he's an all star. Now when it comes to Castellanos, who's a little salty about it again, it's turning into the Savannah bananas.
Rich
Would you say Castellos is best known for him always being up when something weird happens? Right. Isn't that his reputation?
Covino
Yeah. Is he going to start over? PCA? No. Kyle Tucker? No. Acuna Jr. No. That's your starting outfield in the NL. So how do you feel about a dude that's really it. Simplify the question. How do you feel about a dude with five starts making the MLB All Star team? Is that a joke or is that, hey, everybody has a different path.
Rich
I think there's also the layer of a lot of people, pitchers especially opt to. I'm not going to throw that day or I'm coming off a short rest. I'll take the honor but I dip out. And if that's the case, like I don't know what it's again, it's. It's the All Star game. We want to see the excitement. I'm all for this kid playing.
Covino
Hey Rich, how do you feel about Rich? On a personal note. Right again, it's Cavino and Rich in for Dan Patrick live from Atlanta. All Star Village. Come say hi. Drinks on Rich. Capital One All Star Village. It's just starting. Great vibe here. But on a personal note, Rich got a big time gig in the number one market New York City Z100 as a 19 year old punk. Oh yeah. How do you think the veteran kissed up to the program directly? Yeah, no, he had good buzz, good hype. But yeah, no, he's his path. Right.
Danny G
He was the quintessential like fly guy at night like on nighttime dj. Well usually though it's like the young dude that a program director looks at and says, I Can mold that guy into becoming a nighttime dj.
Covino
You know what that's called though? It's called you got potential and you got a great break. Right. For anyone to hate on that is just envy and jealousy.
Rich
And you know what?
Covino
Period. This guy's getting a break here. He's got all the goods to be an All Star now. He has to deliver. If you didn't deliver, you wouldn't be feeling it for Dan Patrick right now. All these years later, you could. 65 years later, you could say, you could say that.
Rich
That's a great example. But the truth is, 20 years later, yeah, we. You know, I. I'd like to think I proved that I could stick around, but you're right. When I was 19 and was working in a big radio station, if you don't think there were people that hated.
Covino
Me there, hey there.
Danny G
I'm sure there were lots of weekend talent who had been grinding hard to get promoted all over the country.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Not just in New York City, all over the country that were like, who's this idiot? How did he get that chance? He must be kissing ass.
Danny G
But you know, the radio stations with the best balance were always the most fun to listen to.
Covino
The.
Danny G
The ones that had the mix of veterans and newcomers and up and coming stars. And I think that's what it is with the MLB All Star game too. I want what you guys have been talking about. I want to see a balance of guys that are just having an amazing year, plus the faces of the league.
Covino
And that's exactly what I'm getting at. And I think that's nail on the head because as I said before, I think you got to have the stats to back it up. If you've earned it, you should be in there. But you do need that mix of young stars who you get excited about. And this is the guy who do.
Rich
You think has the most all Star appearances out of anyone in the game this year? Because this year you're seeing a lot of first time starters. Let me give you this. First time starters, Cal Raleigh, your old pal, labor of Love, G.L. torres.
Covino
He's having a season.
Rich
Jacob Wilson, Riley Green, Will Smith of the Dodgers, first time starter.
Covino
I got it.
Rich
I got my dude. Francisco Lindor, number 12.
Covino
The guy with the most starts, Kyle, first time in the nl. Manny Machado or Freddie Freeman, I bet PCA first time. But you asked me who has the most.
Rich
Your dude, Aaron Judge. 7.
Covino
He also is the fastest to 350 home runs this past weekend. So I tip my Yankee hat to him. So the question simple and we asked you Dan Patrick Nation Fox Sports Radio Nation live from Atlanta. A guy with five starts. Are you hating or congratulating?
Rich
It's, it's the question of the All.
Covino
Star break cuz Jacob Misarowski is causing lots of drama, lots of controversy. Brewers fans are excited about it. The Miz is 4:1 and people are saying what is that about?
Rich
So your thoughts as we film for DP Live from the Capital One All Star Village Atlanta. Kavino and Rich yeah, feedback your phone calls next at Covino and Rich.

Rich
Always fun to do some baseball all star stuff. I. Oh hell, I was just talking to our friends at MLB and You really were, bro.
Covino
You're such a schmoozer. Listen, you guys got to see this guy in action.
Rich
I don't know if I should high.
Covino
Five him or punch him in the face.
Rich
Let me tell you this though. They want you and I after the show to go inside the fan fest and battle it out. Batting practice, pitching, everything. And I'm like, yeah, let's go. I want to whoop your ass at this stuff at Covino. Rich. Later on you could see it.
Covino
You know, it's embarrassing that you still get like, like you're so competitive like that you want to beat me in those things. Like, you know who shows me you were such a weenie. No one up. No. You know that's a psychoanalyst. No.
Rich
You know who loses their competitive nature when you subconsciously like, well, when I can't win, I'll say it's childish because.
Covino
This is the, this is the field I play on. Now broadcasting for Dan Patrick. Yeah, I'm trying to win here. You want to still hit little league home runs, you go right ahead.
Rich
Field he played plays on. Now this is where.
Covino
This is where I play to win.
Rich
Listening.
Covino
Not the batting cage. A weenie. All right, so C and R in for the great Dan Patrick. We are live from the MLB All Star Village. And most cars on the road could use a little tlc. Rich
I wrote that down there because that might be the lamest quote ever. This is the field I pointed play on.
Covino
Now that might Be lame or the truth. I'm trying to win here. You're trying to hit home runs in beer league softball.
Rich
Give me a break. So. Or we're two buddies that are at the allstar Village, and I and I want you to get in a challenge.
Covino
But you want to beat me. It's like, dude, why don't you beat me when it matter? Like, you want to beat me now. Let's beat some other shows in broadcasting. That's where my mindset's at now.
Rich
Well, you know what? To wrap up, as Danny said, put a little bow on our Phillies are crying conversation. Castellanos, Schwaber, Trey Turner, they just seem a little butthurt that some of their teammates did not get voted in yet. Mizorowski, who's played five games in his big league career, though he looks lights out. What a small sample size to be an All Star.
Covino
But it's all good. I'm glad they care. It shows me that they care and that it still means something.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
And hey, you're giving a young stud a shot. Jacob Misrowski was given a spot on the NL roster for the All Star Game on Friday because Cubs starter Matthew Boyd was unable to pitch on Tuesday. And now they're saying, man, it's going to be awkward the next time Bernie Brewer and the Philly fanatic cross paths because the Phillies are talking smack that it's a joke. Trey Turner said, what a joke. And Castellanos is saying, what is this, Savannah Bananas? And we're saying, hey, everybody has a different path now. It's his time to step up and put prove he's a superstar. But again, it should be on stats, and I think the best should be there. But if Skeens made it with 11 starts and he's a superstar now, let's maybe for the Miz.
Rich
Maybe we just got a head start on Mizarowski.
Covino
Exactly.
Rich
I just happen to open up x Twitter, and I don't even know if I follow this guy, but I'll give him a shout out. Chuck Friedman apparently is a guy that works with the Brewers. Put out. There he goes. Sounds like some MLB players are upset Misarowski's an All Star. How many times have the brewers been absolutely buried because they're in a small market? They finally get a bone thrown their way with this young kid, and people are mad about it.
Covino
He's a star.
Rich
The Brewer brewers have a young star player. Baseball is gonna embrace the hell out of this guy, which they should. Let's just enjoy it. Who cares?
Covino
Exactly. And again, he has to deliver and gives you more reason to tune in. But it's caused some drama. Where do you stand? Hit us at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. And of course, Iowa Sam back at the studio on the phones at 877-99-FOX. Is this heaven in for? No, it's not.
Rich
It's Iowa Sam. Oh.
Covino
So live from Atlanta, we move on from baseball. Even though there's such a great buzz in the air. We're here for the all star game. Home run derby tonight will be bushwhacking on TV. Look out for us. Let's talk a little LeBron. LeBron even has to infiltrate the all Star conversation. We're here talking baseball, and LeBron is still in the headlines. Well, now, do you applaud that or do you say, beat it, dude, Last night, the.
Danny G
The restaurant you and I were at, Covino, I overheard people talking LeBron.
Rich
Oh, before we get to LeBron, could I ask you and Spot a question?
Covino
Tell us what other movie you watched on the airplane.
Rich
Spot, can you grab the headphones? I hate all of you, by the way. Before we get to LeBron and baseball.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
My ADD is blazing, so roll with me a second.
Covino
Rich finally saw the sand lot on the flight here. He wants to. He wants to tell us about it.
Rich
I met. I met an old high school friend for dinner last night, her and her husband. So you guys did dinner without me? Yeah, I go to the hotel gym last night just to get a work at him because I knew we're going to be busy this week. I see Cavino and I go, how was dinner? And he goes, bro, it was great. He was like, everyone's so nice and there's great booties here. I got. Those are great observations.
Covino
That's. What did you eat? I mean.
Rich
And he goes, yo, Danny had this sweet fried chicken. Spot had shrimp and grits. Shrimp and grits. I had a chicken Caesar salad. I go, I know you're always on a health kick.
Covino
Southern. Southern, yeah. Southern Caesar. You got to taste this chicken. It was the greatest seasoned southern grilled chicken I've ever had in my life.
Rich
I just feel my opinion.
Covino
First of all, mind your own business, you busy body. Butt nose. Butinski. But we also had a delicious cheesecake that I shared with Spot.
Rich
What's your problem? It's like you worry about what you ate. Oh, Danny, fried chicken. Well done, Spot.
Danny G
Oh, collard greens with it, too.
Rich
Collard greens. Covino, you're. You're in a new city and you opt for chicken Caesar. Salad? How could that be great?
Covino
Did you eat it? I did. Zip your mouth. Zip your pie hole.
Rich
You don't think that's a weak ass choice spot? I mean, of all. I mean, I don't like grits.
Covino
Did I say that out loud?
Rich
Oh, my God.
Covino
I just got all these mean mugs. But I. Your boy doesn't do grits. I don't do it, you know, at the bar. I don't do it at the Waffle House. I don't do grits. I enjoyed my dinner and that's all that matters. You really are my cousin, Vinnie. Worry about yourself.
Rich
I just feel like, what's a grit?
Covino
People that have to worry about what you're doing worry about what you're eating. I don't.
Rich
You know what?
Covino
You know what? You know what you ate yesterday?
Rich
What?
Covino
I don't care. Put it that way.
Danny G
Look at this LeBron James headline.
Covino
There you go.
Rich
Thank you. Thanks for bringing it back.
Covino
You.
Rich
Anyway, let's go to LeBron, who has a chicken Caesar stout.
Covino
Anyway, this guy is saying, I saw him at the gym last night and then questioning what I ate. Clearly I care about what I'm eating. It all goes downhill with all these work trips and business meetings. That's how you become a big slob.
Rich
This is where. This is where you binge a little. Anyway, that's what you could do. LeBron James, again, regardless of All Star break. Football's about to start in two months. LeBron does something crazy where there's speculation it's going to make the the news and headlines because as we said before, SGA was MVP and won an NBA title. Who cared? I don't think a lot of people, because the stars of the NBA are still these aging veterans. And the NBA, I think, has a problem of who's the next young stars to emerge. Maybe it's Cooper Flag. Maybe it's Wemby. That is yet to be known.
Covino
Maybe it's all of them.
Rich
But right now, LeBron James is still the biggest name in the NBA. I don't care what anyone says.
Covino
Well, again, causing drama right here in the middle of the All Star Game. All Star break. And we're talking LeBron. Four teams have apparently reached out to him. Those teams being the Mavericks, warriors, the Cavaliers and the Clippers. Imagine he went to the Clippers, from.
Rich
The Lakers to the Clippers, or joined, I don't know, Kyrie Cooper Flag and whoever, whatever. The Mavericks. I mean, the Mavericks have a pretty stacked roster.
Covino
A different opinion and thought for every team. We could even Speculate that, but I'm here to tell you again. 87799 on Fox. If LeBron leaves the Lakers, that is the weakest move ever. Dude, play out your contract, call it a day, and ride off into the sunset. I'm not telling anyone how to live their life or their career. But, dude, come on.
Rich
Or what to eat at the restaurant.
Covino
Yeah, but you're gonna leave the Lakers to wrap up your career where Chasing another chip. Do it with the Lakers, bro. Bronny's still there. You're gonna leave again. And that's the weakest sign of any superstar. When you look at their little reference, their stats, and you see that they ended up here, then there and this and that, that's, you know, their career. Just, you know, that's why I hate what Aaron Rodgers did and how he's ending his career. It's their career and their legacy to tarnish. But LeBron, you're better than that. Win one in LA with the Lakers. The only one I really understand is Cleveland, because you're going back to your home city. You have history there, maybe unfinished business. So I understand it, but it's still weak as hell. LeBron leaves the Lakers, it might be great fodder and great for the NBA and great conversation, but that's the weakest move.
Rich
I much like everything in life, disagree with you completely. I think LeBron James is a unique generational player that goes against these rules. I agree. A lot of times, like, so he.
Covino
Goes to Dallas and what, he's chasing a ring? That looks lame?
Rich
No, but if. If he goes, he becomes a part of lane.
Covino
LeBron James isn't the type of guy that leaves a team. They. The team comes to him. It shows you that he's. He's not that guy anymore then. And I know he's unhappy in. In LA with the late.
Rich
He's bringing out his. The guy that's contractually capable of wanting a trade or leaving the. Some of the other people are locked up. I look at it this way. I get it. In other sports, it always does look weak when a legend like Jerry Rice is like, you know, Niners, Raiders. And then you're like, oh, yeah, he was on the Seahawks or Emmett Smith while he was slightly productive as a Cardinal. You see some of these legends, you know, Shaquille o' Neal ends up playing for every color of the rainbow on every team towards the end. That's right. It does look weak.
Danny G
What's different, though, is look at LeBron's numbers.
Rich
I agree. That's What I'm saying The difference is LeBron is still an impact star player. And there's a couple same Durant.
Covino
Like the stats are still solid for sure.
Rich
I look at it this way. You go to the Mavericks and then you become the veteran. With some young guys, you can make a big impact. You go back to Cleveland. That's a team that won 50 plus games like off the radar, were way good. They just failed in the playoffs. So Cavs are ready. I think the warriors, him and Steph, we've all daydreamed about like, yo, will they ever play together? That's sort of a cool thought. And I think the funniest one of all, if you want to talk about a guy that could nail a legacy as if he already didn't. Imagine, you don't want to hear this, but imagine he went crosstown to the Clippers and somehow they won. Imagine LeBron James is the guy that gets the lowly Clippers to finally win.
Danny G
I just don't see the Lakers trading him crosstown.
Rich
I know, but that would be. Can you imagine?
Covino
So weak. We're talking LeBron James here, man. I think again, another team.
Rich
Who is the. Who is the guy from 90210 that we had on our show back in the day? The late great Luke Perry one time told us that he drove a station wagon or like some minivan or something. And, and Kavina's like, yo, man, that's what you're driving. You're. Luke Perry goes, yeah, but I make it cool.
Covino
He's like, you know, when that got cool, I said, when he goes, when I got God in it. And you know, he was a cool dude, you know.
Rich
Yeah. Rest in peace. You know what would make the Clippers cool? I think if LeBron James chose them.
Covino
That's corny. No, that's corny as hell.
Danny G
The. The Clippers seem forever cursed.
Rich
I mean, it sounds sorry to the.
Danny G
Two Clippers fans listening right now, but Maller and Clipper Darrell, Yeah, it's the Donald Sterling curse. They always find a way to lose.
Covino
It's.
Danny G
They're not. The Lakers, I don't think, are interested in having that dynamic going on in their same city. Right.
Rich
Well.
Covino
Well, you know, at the back of what you said, though, rich Clippers fans would find it cool. I just think it's corny for his career and, and for basketball to lead the Lakers.
Rich
Danny, you would probably find it a little funny in that all your friends that are Clippers fans have spent years bashing LeBron. So, like, see that part of it.
Danny G
That part of it would be great.
Rich
Like Ben Maller, Moncy, some of our co workers, the few Clippers fans. You know, the funny part would be how they would have to accept the fact that LeBron's a Clipper. But hey, your thoughts? I get it's baseball, All Star Week, NFL right around the corner. Yet LeBron, could he be on the move? Your thoughts at Covino Rich as we're in for the great Dan Patrick, be.

Covino
Now, before we get back to baseball and Deshaun Watson and all these other things, we got to wrap up this LeBron James conversation. LeBron James was reached out to from the Mavericks, the Warriors, Cavaliers and Clippers. I think it's weak if he leaves the Lakers. I'm not what you would say, a Lakers fan. We live in la. But for record and reference, I'm thinking he's got to end his career with la. There's unfinished business there. They bent over backwards for this guy. People are always going to criticize the bubble championship. Win one there. You got deandre Ayton now. And you know what he's probably thinking, no one told me about that because the story was they told Luka but they didn't tell LeBron about it. So it is Luka's team and he's ready to jump ship. Maybe. Apparently I think that's weak. Unless the only story I really understand, I'm not a fan of. But I understand that if he goes back to Cleveland, that's his hometown and you wrap it up that way the same way like a Griffey Jr. Ended up in Seattle or. But something like that, he already had.
Danny G
A homecoming and won a title.
Covino
Exactly.
Danny G
For the Cavs. I can kind of understand Golden State because he and Curry have wanted to play, play together for so many years.
Rich
And you've seen them especially like on the Olympic stage when they play together. I, I may be delusional. I may be, you know, I may be five years too late on this, but there's a part of me that thinks LeBron and Steph together could still win.
Danny G
Well, the Lakers could also get young pieces from the warriors like Kaminga and Moody, so it could work out for both teams.
Covino
Did you say LeBron and Stephen? How about LeBron and Luka? How about the team he's on that he begged his son to be drafted on Rich, Paul said. We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future, Paul said. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage of his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count and the Lakers understand that and are supportive. They want what's best for him. And as Danny G said, yeah, the difference between LeBron and, let's say a Jordan who ended up on a weak ass team, right?
Rich
Or anyone, that was his choice. But the Wizards are a weakest team.
Covino
End of their career. His stats are still up there. He's old in age, but he's still one of the best or consistent on the court. 24.4 points, averaging 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists. So guy still averaging 20, basically 25 points a game at 40 something years old now. So I get it. He still has game and he wants to win. But dude win in la. It just looks, I don't know, I just hate that look of when players bounce around at the end of their career.
Rich
Who's more likely to go further in the playoffs in their sport? Aaron Rodgers at the Steelers or LeBron sticking with the Lakers? Because you're talking about guys like, you know, as you think of these guys that are, that are hall of Famers that are at the end, like could any of these, are we delusional to think that any of these late in their career guys can make a run?
Covino
LeBron, if anybody.
Rich
Yeah. I mean he's still got the juice.
Covino
Yeah. So your thoughts 87799 on Fox @COVINO and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Rich

The Dan Patrick Show: Hour 1 – Crybaby Phillies, LeBron Stealing Headlines
Release Date: July 14, 2025
Overview
In this engaging episode of The Dan Patrick Show, hosts Covino and Rich deliver a lively discussion from the MLB All Star Village in Atlanta. The episode delves into the controversies surrounding MLB All Star selections, particularly focusing on the criticism directed at Philadelphia Phillies players. Additionally, the hosts explore the ongoing speculation about LeBron James potentially changing NBA teams, analyzing the implications for his legacy and the broader sports landscape. The conversation is peppered with humor, insightful commentary, and notable quotes from the hosts.
Timestamp: [02:38] - [03:15]
Covino and Rich kick off the main content of the show from the bustling MLB All Star Village in Atlanta. They set the scene by describing the excitement and activities available to fans, including batting practice, interactive games, and opportunities to meet baseball stars.
Timestamp: [10:59] - [14:55]
A significant portion of the discussion centers on the backlash faced by Phillies players like Trey Turner and Nick Castellanos for their comments about All Star selections. The hosts debate whether these criticisms are justified or if they stem from genuine passion for the game.
Rich: "Trey Turner, Nick Castellanos and some of the leaders on that team are saying it's a joke that Brewers rookie pitcher Misorowski Jacob Mizrowski is on the All Star team."
[12:42]
Covino: "I do believe that you entering the All Star Game should be on merit alone. It should be on your stats."
[12:29]
Timestamp: [13:10] - [17:46]
The selection of rookie pitcher Jacob Mizrowski with only five starts is a contentious topic. Covino defends Mizrowski's selection based on his impressive statistics, while Rich points out the unprecedented nature of his early inclusion.
Rich: "If people like, what do you mean? The Phillies or Crab race? The Phillies. When I say Phillies, Trey Turner, Nick Castellanos and some of the leaders on that team are saying it's a joke that Brewers rookie pitcher Misorowski Jacob Mizrowski is on the All Star team."
[12:42]
Covino: "He's only had five starts in the bigs. They call him the Miz Jacob Mizrowski. So out of five starts, he's 4.1 he's looking dominant, 2.81 ERA, 33 strikeouts in his five starts."
[13:28]
Rich: "Do you mean he's played five games in his big league career and he's an All Star? The record before that was Paul Skeens last year, and that was 11."
[13:57]
Timestamp: [14:55] - [22:41]
Covino and Rich delve into the broader debate of whether All Star selections should be strictly merit-based or influenced by popularity. They compare MLB's selection process to other sports, emphasizing the importance of statistics and on-field performance.
Covino: "You got to have the stats to back it up. If you've earned it, you should be in there."
[17:46]
Rich: "Why would baseball not hype up their young dudes? Every other sport does it. You're telling me that, dude, all eyes are on freaking Ronnie James or whatever young NBA guy gets a shot."
[18:40]
Covino: "But again, you got to remember reporters are asking questions, too. What do you want these players to do? Lie to you? Do you want them to not care?"
[14:50]
Timestamp: [30:35] - [37:54]
The conversation shifts to NBA star LeBron James, with Covino expressing skepticism about the rumors of LeBron leaving the Lakers. Rich counters by highlighting LeBron's unique position and the potential impact of any team changes.
Covino: "If LeBron leaves the Lakers, that is the weakest move ever. Dude, play out your contract, call it a day, and ride off into the sunset."
[34:14]
Rich: "I think LeBron James is a unique generational player that goes against these rules."
[35:58]
Timestamp: [37:54] - [44:35]
Covino and Rich debate how moving to different teams could affect LeBron's legacy. Covino argues that staying in LA would solidify his legacy, while Rich believes LeBron's contributions transcend team affiliations.
Covino: "LeBron James isn't the type of guy that leaves a team. They, the team comes to him."
[36:17]
Rich: "LeBron, you're still one of the best or consistent on the court. 24.4 points, averaging 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists."
[44:32]
Timestamp: [37:54] - [43:50]
They explore various team scenarios, such as LeBron joining the Mavericks, Warriors, Cavaliers, or Clippers, analyzing the feasibility and implications for each combination.
Rich: "Imagine LeBron James is the guy that gets the lowly Clippers to finally win."
[37:57]
Covino: "If you go to the Mavericks and then you become the veteran. With some young guys, you can make a big impact."
[43:34]
Timestamp: [27:02] - [32:52]
