Play of the Day Poll Question Stat of the day all of that forthcoming sports day and night that turned out to be far more interesting than I thought it was going to be. More on Bill Belichick's future at North Carolina a little bit later on. By the way, North Carolina has the weekend off. Then they go to Cal. Your phone call is always welcome. 8773-DP-SHoVE, email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Good morning if you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner. Game 5 Tigers at the Mariners coming up later on tonight, Dodgers close out the Phillies in 11 innings to head back to the NLCS. The Cubs are still alive. They handle the Brewers. Game 5 will be Saturday night. The big story, the Giants upsetting the Eagles. Three touchdowns for Cam Scatter. Boo. And I go back to the draft now. If you follow the show, you know that I was high on Jackson Dart. My source said that he had a first round, first round grade on him. I got to see him probably play three or four full games at Ole Miss and I liked what I saw. He had mobility. And you're playing for Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin is a offensive minded head coach. He certainly has a lot of swagger at that position. Transfer in from usc. And then Cam Scatterboo who we got to see kind of late in his career and you got to see something that we thought was really special, different, interesting. But I didn't know if he was going to be maybe too slow or too limited to play at this level. I do know if the ball's on the one or two yard line, I know who's getting it. But with Jalen Carter not in there last night they ran right up the Middle. And Scatterboo had three touchdowns, by the way, the last Giant to have three touchdowns in a game. Saquon Barkley, that was also in his rookie season. But surprise, surprise, and you know you're seeing something. And granted it's the embryonic stages here with the Giants, but we talked about this. They were going to stay with Russell and they were going to stay with him for maybe a month and then you were going to ease into Jackson Dart. Because if you ease into Jackson Dart now, if you have success, if ownership looks at this and says, maybe we have something here, let's not make a change at the head coaching position or the gm, and that might be what happened or happens. I know that when we looked at Russ, I thought maybe they were going to play Russ longer than they should, but maybe they thought we got to win games because if we don't win games with this schedule, we won't make it to the second half of the season. Now you have something interesting there. And maybe, maybe Jackson Dart will save Brian Dabel's career. Also Joe Shane, the gm. And maybe they were reaches. You know, maybe it was a reach in the first round for Jackson Dart. Maybe Cam Scatter Boo, a fourth round draft pick. You weren't quite sure, but you have hope. And they don't have any weapons on offense. I mean, I'm looking at the wide receivers and I go, huh? Who? But they somehow made something happen last night. And the only thing that I would say is Jackson Dart. I love your mobility, but I want you to continue to have mobility. Slide. Don't take on DBs. Nobody cares. You don't have to be a tough guy. Slide. Slide. Because all it takes is you. And you got nicked up. And they put him in the concussion tent. But that's where Brian Dable, the head coach, is right outside. It's almost like, come on, let's go. You're good. Come on, here we go. And all of a sudden Jackson Dart comes back out and it's like, okay, he. I guess he passed concussion protocol, but his head coach, Brian Dabel, talked about Jackson darts performance. Good team win. That's a division team on the row or at home. Should I say home? Crowd was awesome, but we got to give him a reason to be awesome, too. So another good game by a rookie quarterback, but another good game from everybody around him. And that's what we needed. You know, it's not about one guy, it's about a team. Two turnovers on defense, very good third down execution on offense. Ran the Ball well finished the game. Good to have a young leader like Dart. Okay, maybe a little more emotion, a little more enthusiasm there, Brian. You might have saved your job. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini Max America. That was fun. Fun to watch. And here is the final call of the Dodgers moving on to the NLCS. Heart rates through the roof. The 01 pitch. Pajes grounds it back to Kirkery. He can't find it. He throws home. It's wide. Tim scores. And the Dodgers are going to the championship series. Fireworks go off in center field. The Dodgers celebrate near first base on a ground ball back to the pitcher somehow gets the job done. That's courtesy of AM570LA Sports, Dodgers Radio Network. So you got bases loaded to come back to back or to Kirkering. And he is looking to make a play at home. And he doesn't have to. He can go to first and get the out. But he pauses and it's almost as if he took his eye off the ball and the glo, you know, his glove and the battery and he got lost. He got caught in no man's land. Kim scores. Kim actually missed home plate and then came back and touched home plate, but wild. And we were talking about the worst way to lose and it's a walk off error. And that's what happened. Here is Rob Thompson, the Phillies manager, on what he said to his pitcher after the loss. Rob, obviously a heartbreaking way to lose. Look at a long conversation with Orion coming off the field. Do you want to share a little what you told him or just keep his head up? You know, he just got caught up in the moment a little bit coming down the stretch there. He pitched so well for us and you know, I feel, I feel for him because he's. He's putting it all on his shoulders. But we win as a team and we lose as a team. I couldn't help but think of spring training because if you've ever gone to spring training and you get there early, not for a game, but just when they're doing drills, one of the first drills you do is that you have a comebacker to the pitcher and then he throws to first base. I mean, there. These are really menial tasks that you're doing as a pitcher. It's like, okay, you got to come back, and then you throw over to first base, and then the next pitcher comes in, the next pitcher comes in. It's all just. Everybody's doing the same repetition here. And, you know, you kind of put yourself on automatic pilot until you're in a moment when the season is on the line and a comebacker. And really, you were prepared to make the play at first base because your body was squared up to home plate to get the ball. You don't have to try to get the play at the. At home plate, get the out at first base. Had plenty of time to do so. But in these moments, and I don't know if somebody says, hey, if it comes back to you, you got the easy out at first base. These are little things. And your catcher is pointing to first base, like, that's the play. And then he throws home. And the catcher, you know, it was wide. He had no chance there. But your catcher is going, throw it first. And all of a sudden he's throwing it home. And then it was too late. Yes, Todd, as unforgivable as it may seem, and you learn that in Little League and all that kind of stuff in the moment in your peripheral vision when the season and it's all on the line and you see that runner right in front of you coming home. I can. In that split second, I can understand, like, I gotta get this right. It's right in front of me. I gotta flip it to the catcher for the tag. And that's just, you know, I. He deserves the criticism, and it sucks that their season ended like that. But I can understand somehow that he thought, let me get him at home. I'm not sure if I could make the throw at first and how far down the runner is. And I got this right in front of me happening. If the catcher's pointing to first base, that's your indicator. But the catcher should be saying and reminding him, hey, comebacker, you got the easy out at first. I mean, this is all baseball 101. It's not hindsight, it's just baseball 101. Get the out of first. That's all. You don't have to try to, you know, because the play at home, I know you're going to get a force, but you still got to make sure you get the right throw. I was surprised Kim didn't slide, because I would have gone in there and made it Even tougher for the catcher. And he did. Maybe he was shocked that they were coming home instead of going to first. But the Dodgers advance to the nlcs. They'll wait for the winner of the brewers and the Cubs. Yes, Marvin. Yeah. You remember in Little League when the catcher would go a two outs, plays to wherever, plays the first. That's probably what they should have done because he knew right then and there, I think he got caught up in. He saw the runner going home as soon as he bobbled the ball. That was the first thing he bobbled the ball and he looked up and he panicked and he saw the guy ready to score. I don't even think he was looking towards first base at all or the catcher. Well, you know, in that kind of, I guess, situation where you're thinking, boy, if he scores, then we lose. Well, his run doesn't count if you get the out at first. And that's where you just remind. You remind, that's all. I mean, that's why there's a scoreboard out there that tells you how many outs. But what happens, you know, you get one out and shortstop and go, all right, one down, one down, you know, everybody holding up all right, one to two down, two down. I was just surprised that. And maybe they did that. Hey, the easy out, go to first. That's where we want to go. Well, yes, as soon as you bobble that ball. Everything he just said went out the window. Yes, you do. As soon as you bobble the ball. He panicked and threw the ball to the wrong place. Even looking at his catcher who was pointing to first, he still threw it at the catcher because you panic. Yeah, Paulie. And the most cruel thing about baseball is he's standing there on the mound after the play and the Dodgers are celebrating around him. He can't escape. He's got to walk off casually. That's tough. For over 40 years, Tire Rack has been helping you find the right tires for how and what and where you drive ship fast and free. Free road hazard protection. Worst night, Phillies. Eagles. Well, Phillies, because the season's over. Yeah, but the Eagles got cooked by a horrible Giants team rival. Yeah, that's terrible. The Eagles don't have to reinvent themselves. They have to rediscover themselves. And I think they've kind of lost who they are. What's their identity. You're throwing the ball an awful lot. You went away from Saquon Barkley in the second half of the game. And I give the Giants credit. They played and like this game really meant something to them. Playing at home. Jackson Dart played well, the defense played well, but I would say the Phillies, because the season is over. The Eagles, we got a long way to go. Yes. Saquon opened the game just ripping off two monster runs and he's like, okay, here we go. This is going to be the game plan for, to do this. You know, lather, rinse, repeat for the rest of the night. And you, you're walking away with an easy dub here. And, you know, the Giant situation, that momentum at home, and I, I wondered, you know, are they going to have that home field advantage and being a seven point underdog and it felt like that. Although I felt bad for Russell Wilson. He came in for one play in. The fans booed. Come on. I, I'd say you're better than that, but I don't know if you are. I mean, it's. Russ is not going in there to try to fail. The ball was tipped that he threw and then, you know, you boo him. What are you booing him for? What the heck? I don't know. I don't know. But, but you have something with Jackson Dart. He at least keeps them interesting, keeps them relevant, that, that he is a watchable performer. And Scatter Boo is not afraid of anybody. Yeah, I don't know if he's going to be a good running back, but boy, he, he runs like you just said something about your, his family. He's, he's going after. He runs angry. It's. It's like somebody's going to hurt. This is going to hurt me, but it's going to hurt you more. And that's. When I watch him, there's a combination of Marshawn lynch and Larry Zonka. When I, When I watch him, it's. I'm taking on contact and this is going to hurt you more than it's going to hurt me. Yeah, Paul, I'm looking at Scatter boo's draft profile. Five, nine and a half, 220 pounds. And the only criticisms were breakaway speed, cutting ability, the basics. But they include that he runs like a maniac. He actually says maniac. Giants do kind of. Sorry, sorry, go ahead. Yeah, go ahead. The Giants do kind of have something with that tandem, though. They both have for what is essentially like a swagless team. Those two fellas have a little bit of it. Where it's like, man, we might be able to build around this. Yeah. Paul Seton is referencing the Hope Meter, which we unveiled at this time last year. And right now the New York Giants are high on the Hope meter, not high on the chance to make the playoffs meter. There's two different things. The Hope ometer, the Hope O meter or the Hope O meter. Whichever. The Hope O meter. The Hope meter. The Hope O meter is depending where you're from, by the way, we'll have the most must win game of the weekend coming up a little bit later on. Interesting college football weekend. Great College football weekend. And Ohio State, Illinois, Bama, Missouri, Indiana, Oregon, OU, Texas, Florida A&M. Florida versus Texas A&M. Michigan, USC. This one, to me, I think it's must see TV because USC has Michigan, then Notre Dame, and later in the season they have Oregon. So if this is 2004 and USC is 4 and 1, they're ranked in the top 10. They're not ranked. They're 4 and 1. That's how far they've fallen and still waiting for the end. You had the tough loss at Illinois, but this is a you better win at home against Michigan. And then you got Notre Dame at Notre Dame and a little bit later on Oregon. A lot of college football matchups that we'll dive into today. 877-3-D-P-SHoVE, we'll talk to you about the poll questions. It may look different, but Native culture is very alive. My name is Nicole Garcia and on Burn Sage, Burn Bridges we aim to explore that culture. It was a huge honor to become a television writer because it does feel oddly like very traditional. It feels like Bob Dylan going electric. That this is something we've been doing for kind of you carry with you a sense of purpose and confidence. That's Sierra Teller Ornelas, who with Rutherford Falls became the first Native showrunner in television history. On the podcast Burn Sage, Burn Bridges we explore her story along with other Native stories such as the creation of the first Native Comic Con or the importance of reservation basketball. There Are no Girls on the Internet is not just about tech. It's about culture and policy and art and expression and how we as humans exist and fit with one another. In our new season, I'm talking to people like Anil Dash, an OG entrepreneur and writer who refuses to be cynical about the Internet. I love tech. You know, I've been a nerd my whole life, but it does have to be for something. Like, it's not just for its own sake. It's a fascinating exploration about the power of the Internet for both good and bad. They use WhatsApp to get the price of rice at the market that is often 12 hours away. They're not going to be like, we don't like the terms of service, therefore we're not trading rice. This season, it's an inspiring story that focuses on people as the core building blocks of the Internet platforms exist because of the regular people on them. Just the second time the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers all lost on the same day. Last time that happened was October of 1983, by the way, I don't know if it's out of necessity or desperation, but Jackson dart has rushed for over 50 yards in all three of his first NFL starts. Now, the only other quarterbacks who have done that in their first three starts in the last 50 years, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. So Jackson Dart in good company, but it feels like Lamar Jackson's are more designed. And same with Jalen Hurts where Jackson darted. Felt like it was starting to break down. I better try to make something happen. Here is the call we gave you the Dodgers version of the game winning play. Here's the Phillies call of the end of their season. The Oh1 swing at a broken back comebacker. Kirkring knocks it down, picks it up, throws wildly home to the backstop and the season is over. The Dodgers rushing out past Orion Kirkering, who stands with his hands on his knees over. That's the Phillies radio network. And that's the way it ended. So now the Dodgers await the brewers or the Cup. I saw some enthusiasm there. I appreciated that. It's nice to hear. Okay, so in a losing effort, you were fine with that? You gotta get a score, get call. What you're seeing doesn't always go your way. Gino in Virginia. Hi, Gino. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan Patrick in the Nannettes. Love you guys. Thank you. Long time listener accepting time caller. You guys hear me? Yeah. Oh, okay. Hey, Mike. Dodgers man, I. All my nails are gone. Some of my skin is gone. It's bleeding. That play, he didn't touch home plate. When I went back to the video several times and then I seen him head back. I want to know if he touched home plate because I don't think he did the first time. No, he didn't touch the first time, but that's why he went back. But the catcher didn't catch the ball, so play was over. He did come back and touch home plate. But thank you for the phone call, Gino. John in Texas. Hi, John. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan, thanks for having me on. First time, long time. 6 foot 180. Just had two comments about some of the broadcasts this week. First, I just wanted to give a quick props to John Smoltz. From a guy that literally listens to hundreds of sports broadcasts a year, he's easily the best college commentator in the game. Just as a way of simplifying the game for the casual fan, but also gives those nuggets for the baseball nerds like me. Hope you can have them on the show. Love hearing the interviews. But secondly, I was able to get the quad box rolling and caught some of the Middle Tennessee State, Missouri State games. So listen to our boy Chase Daniel on the call. Feel like he has a future in the business. Not just saying that because I'm on the zoo grad. Have a good weekend, guys. Mit. All right. Thank you, John. Yeah. Chase Daniel doing a game on Wednesday night. You know, when you get these former players or former coaches, if they come in with the right attitude and that is, I know football, but I don't know TV or I don't know radio, then they have a chance to do something. It's when you come in with a preconceived idea. And I've mentioned before, there have been players and there have been coaches who went through the mothership in my 18 years there. And some were a. I know what I'm doing. Other ones were like, tell me how to do this. Same thing with Football Night in America with Rodney Harrison and Tony Dungy. They came in and said, treat us like rookies. And I did. Just trying to have them understand how to do this play by play. And being an analyst, I. I know what I'm listening for. I haven't done it enough where I'm trying to set up somebody that way. But I thought Chase. Chase has a bright future because he puts in the homework. That's the key, that the. The longer you've been away from the game, the less connected you are, which means now you have to do more homework there because these rosters turn over. You got to stay ahead of the game. And sometimes you can be, you know, doing a marquee game or you have a marquee position and then you lose sight of what helped you get to that point. Red in Georgia. Hi, Red. What's on your mind? Good morning, Dan, and thanks for taking the call. Dad, we gonna miss you for stuff like this because you're the only one. Yeah. Honestly answer the question that I got and be. And let me know if I'm just reaching or not. It bothered me now that I finding out that ESPN has a sports where you could go gamble and place bets. And I think the relationship with the ESPN and what they got NFL, I think if it ain't now, later on. Can this be a big conflict with gambling and gamblers and who is monitoring what ESPN get to know and when they get to know it? Well, it's. And I know what you're saying. When there's information and you've got Adam Schefter is he getting information before somebody else? There's a lot of different outlets that are doing gambling. Do I like the look for ESPN and gambling? I do not read. I do. Not at all. But it's big business, and that's the bottom line. It's all this is. You know, when the commissioner of the NFL, what, 13 years ago, oh, we'll never be in business with gamblers. And I said at the time, yes, they will. Yes, they will. Eventually you'll find out. Find out how to divvy up the pie. That's all this is. And then they started to look at this and they go, oh, my gosh, there's that much money. You know, owners own part of, you know, these sites that help you gamble, owners in the NFL. So it's. It's dangerous. And if you do it for entertainment, then, you know, good for you. But if you do it because you think you're going to make money, you're sadly mistaken. But I, I didn't like. It's just too close with ESPN and, and having your own gambling book. I don't like the look of it. But, look, I'm in the minority. I'm not in the demo that they're going after, but I do not like that at all. Zach and Knoxville. Hey, Zach, what's on your mind? Adp, thanks for taking my call. Just one observation. I feel like Jackson Dart looked a lot like a young Russell Wilson kind of scrambling to get the pass off. And just want to get your thoughts on Brian Dayball going full Bud Kilmer last night, trying to get into the medical tent and see what was up with Jackson Dart. Do you think there should be an NFL official there to keep him away? Well, I think there was. There's supposed to be a neutral medical examiner, whatever the title is, but, you know, you didn't have to kind of read between the lines of what was happening. It was Brian Dable and Jackson darts in that tent and damn it, let's go. I think he's good. I'm guessing it takes a little bit longer with concussion protocol than what it did last night. One play. I was just kind of surprised at that. Yeah, Paulie, I thought last night was a. I wouldn't use word great, but a real example of what players and coaches think about player safety in the moment of a tight game on national TV where you're trying to keep your job, if you're the coach or trying to establish yourself as a player. They don't let the coach into the medical tent, but they can let his words in. And Kayleigh Hartung, the reporter is like, Brian Daboll's yelling, let's get this going. And moving his finger. And you could hear Jackson dart yelling back like, I got this. I'm good. I'm good. I mean, it's. It was a wild scene. Yeah, it's not a good look for everybody, but you're right in the moment, you know, oh, we. We care about somebody's health. This is. This is real. This is what the NFL is all about. You know, we care about your health as long as your health can help us. We need you out there. Let's go. Come on. He's good. It was almost mocking the concussion protocol in the moment there. Let's see Keith and Charlotte. Hi, Keith. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. I was the one that called a few weeks ago about the Panthers making it a Super bowl with all those crazy stats. And then with Paulie saying the hope meter is high. Well, my hope meter is high. Bryce is playing better here and there. He stops making the mistakes. We're 3, 2. Defense stepping up with that. It all starts this weekend with Dallas. Okay, how's the face that Panthers beat Dallas. Anyone want it? Does anybody want a piece of Keith and Charlotte that the Panthers beat the Cowboys? Paul? I'm actually on his side. I will co opt his side of the bat if anyone wants it. Okay. The Cowboys are favored by three in Carolina. Okay. No takers here. Keith. You know, maybe. Maybe we're showing you some respect for the Panthers. Good luck this weekend. Lucas in Texas. Hi, Luke. Welcome back. Hey, Dan. Good morning, Nate. Yeah, just a couple quick bits. I did think that the Giants behavior was pretty inappropriate with Jackson. Darts, possible concussion. It just kind of made a mockery of the whole thing. But going to baseball, you know, last night kind of just affirmed to me that all dynasties hit a kind of a threshold threshold where, you know, they. They win and then all of a sudden people start losing around them. I think that this is. It's almost going to be the Dodgers versus any other team, any other fan base, and everyone's going to go with either the American League team or the brewers or the Cubs. I just feel like there's going to be kind of this desire for a new fresh blood. And one quick bit. Is Todd Fritz allowed to give pitcher fielding advice? Because we all know that, you know, he did six out or six innings with 18 strikeouts. So what does he know about fielding? The position? He's such a good strikeout pitcher, you know. Well, That's a great point by Lucas that you don't know anything about fielding because nobody was able to touch your heat. I've had a couple balls hit my way and I'm sure there were times when I threw it to the wrong base in Little League and made some mistakes and had the manager give me a little talking to. But yeah, I'm. I was one of those strikeout, home run kind of pitchers. We always talk about the strike and home run batters. I'm usually they're giving it up for a long ball or K and somebody. You were bringing cheese back in Little League and it was. And as soon as the manager saw me try to throw a curveball, he gave me a little finger and said, we're not doing that anymore. Kelly in Tennessee. Hi, Kelly. What's on your mind today? Hey, Mr. Dan. This is. I got two things for you. I got what's your least favorite habit of the Danettes or most annoying? And I got. Second thing is, how long do you think Scatter Boot got in the league if he plays like that with his head down trying to always take a hit? I don't know, but I don't know if he's thinking about what his career lifespan is going to be. I think he's just trying to make the team play and get maybe a second contract. But I mean, I love the look of it. I don't know how sustainable it is, but I do know I don't worry about that guy wanting to play, play hurt, play hard, whatever you need me to do. You want me to block, you want me to catch passes, you want me to run straight ahead into the wall, I'm going to do that. And that's contagious because there was a story, it might have been on espn.com and they talked about his teammates, talked about Cam Scatterboo and they all kind of said the same thing. The guy says whatever he wants to. Like he's crazy, but in a good way. And we saw that at Arizona State. And, and you know when you see him playing, you're like, boy, he plays differently. And he done it. He invites contact and, and the way he's built and you can, you can tell there he's played against some defenders who are like, damn, you know, keep, keep running hard, kid. Like they know it and you know it's not sustainable, but maybe he does it for three, four, five years. Yeah. Pauling Scatterboo was on the post game show last night and he ripped his shirt off with Fitzpatrick. He looked like every guy in the parking lot tailgating a Giants game. Big, scratchy dude. Thick, big, huge neck. Awesome. Yeah, it's like throwback. It's throwback to the 60s 70s. You're running right up the middle. And I did. I thought about Larry Zonka and Marshawn lynch where it's just. This is going to hurt you. It'll hurt me a little bit. It's going to hurt you as well, you know, Zonka was just a straight ahead guy for the Miami Dolphins. Big guy. But scatter boo. Low to the ground, leverage and not afraid of taking on content. All right, we have a birthday game. Paulie is the host of the birthday game. Could you explain what the game is? Yeah, we have a birthday today in the building. It is Todd Fritz's birthday today, guys. Surprised he didn't announ it already. It was all I could do not to say it. We were still singing Todd. Sorry. At about 9:02 12. I'm like, if they don't say happy birthday, I'm just gonna blurt it out. I pulled the band aid cuz I could tell. I could feel Todd over my shoulder. Wow. With three minutes of the show and no acknowledgement at birthday these guys. I'm gonna name other famous people born on this day. And stop me when I get to someone less famous than Todd Fritz. Who's ready, people born on October 10th. Dan Dale Earnhardt Jr. Oh, okay. David Lee Roth. Very famous. By the way, did you see his last outing? His concert? No. Oh, dear. Solo. Oh, my goodness. What happened? It. It was. It's not. If I just played the music and you would say, boy, that sounds like somebody is in a bar doing karaoke. Yes. It's as close to a real life SNL skit as I've ever seen. He's sort of talking, oh my gosh, dude, what are you doing? I heard it was a bosie bozie flop. Next time, would you guys be fine going to a Van Halen concert and David Lee Roth is lip syncing and everyone knows it. No, I would. No, I think you might be. Oh, I wouldn't go to the concert. But if you're going and you're like, oh, he's lip syncing, but he's jumping around having fun and the music sounds like the music. Well, no, because there's no Eddie Van Halen. Yeah, yeah, that's true. He was the drone. So I would. I would go for Ed, but. And I always like David Lee Roth as a front man. And you know Sammy Hagar is a better singer. But David Lee Roth was great frontman. But no, if he's lip syncing now and. And no Eddie Vedder or Eddie Van Halen. So. No, not interested. Who else? Birthday boys born on this date. How about actor Bradley Whitford? Is Fritzi more famous than him? Who does not know Bradley Whitford? West Wing. Very popular on the West Wing. He was in that movie get out. Yeah, but been in a lot of stuff. Yes. Okay. Mary Todd's not more famous now. Mario Lopez, Saved by the Bell and all those entertainment shows. Pretty famous. Access Hollywood. Yes. Todd's not more famous than Mario Lopez. Actor Ben Vereen, he had a big, big career in the 70s and 80s. But maybe now Todd, he's kind of old news. Ben Vereen. Yeah. We're still doing our show all these years. How dare you, sir? You might be it's at least a push, you know. Come on. You know what? For the well Green family. I'm sticking up for them. How dare you, Sir? Actress Rose McIver. Rose MacGyver. I don't. Okay, I think we have a winner. She was on Ghosts on CBS. Really? Rose McIver? Okay, I think Todd wins that one. Amy Teagarden, the actress from Friday Night Lights, the daughter of Coach Taylor. I think. I think Todd has her. All right, that's the game. All right. Yay. He ain't more famous than Ben Vereen. How about Brett Favre? More positive vibes maybe. Yes. Yeah. Having a better run. Todd's having a better run lately. Yeah, but I'm in a pass hole lately, so I don't know. It could be a push at this point. All right, let's take a break. More phone calls coming up. We'll talk to Devin McCourty of NBC Sports and more on Bill Belichick. Does Belichick coach the North Carolina game a week from Saturday at Cal? We'll have that for you. But up next, it's our play of the day. My name is Nicole Garcia, and on Burn Sage, Burn Bridges we aim to explore that culture. It was a huge honor to become a television writer because it does feel oddly like very traditional. It feels like Bob Dylan going electric. That this is something we've been doing for hundreds of years. You carry with you a sense of purpose and confidence. Kids gripping their new Christmas toys. Then at 6:33pm everything changed. There's been a bombing at the TWA terminal. Apparently the explosion actually impelled metal glass. The injured were being loaded into ambulances. Just a chaotic, chaotic scene. In its wake, a new kind of enemy emerged. And it was here to stay. Terrorism, law and order. You know, I've been a nerd my whole life, but it does have to be for something. Like, it's not just for its own sake. It's a fascinating exploration about the power of the Internet for both good and bad. They use WhatsApp to get the price of rice at the market that is often 12 hours away. They're not going to be like, we don't like the terms of service, therefore we're not trading rice this season. We also have a bunch of suggestions here from the birthday boy. Oh, okay. The team. All right, what do you have, Todd? We've got. How much blame does Orion Kirkering deserve for the Philly season coming to an end? All of it. Most of it. Just a little. They should have scored a few more runs. It's a team loss. Or Ryan. Just a little bit. Just a little bit. Yeah. A lot of people think it's most or all probably. Well, they could have scored more runs. Did I call him Orion, by the way? Yeah, you did. It's Orion. Like the constellation. Like this Milky Way. Yes. Not an Orion bagel. Second one. When a teammates mistake costs you a big game, your immediate reaction to him or her is to get angry. Be consoling, slash supportive. Ignore him or her for a while. Give them space. I would console them immediately. Yes. I think I'd stay away from them for a while. Then eventually, you know, send them a text message a few hours later. Don't worry about it. The Eagles. The Eagles are going to be. The Eagles are going to be just fine. Take a chill pill or in some trouble here. I think they have to rediscover who they are, who they've been. That's not one of the choices. I know, but I would say I. They. They're fine. They're gonna. They're gonna be. They have too much talent to not be. They might not win the super bowl, but. But they have too much talent to not go to the playoffs. Yes. Marvin, is Nick Sirianni back on the hot seat? Oh, I don't know. Because he won the Super Bowl. That's not one of the choices either. Thank you, Todd. After last night's excessive use of the tush push, I now believe the NFL must get rid of it. They should still allow it. Okay. I don't have a problem with it because the Eagles have mastered it. It just doesn't look good when you run the Tush push four consecutive times aesthetically. And the enter, you know, the entertainment portion of the NFL. I don't think it's. I don't think it's in the league next year. I just think they're more. There's more and more momentum against it. And if the Eagles don't win the super bowl, then it's easier to say, you know, we're going to take it out, instead of, they won the super bowl, we can't take it out because then it looks like the rest of the league is ganging up on the Eagles. Yes, Todd, I have one more fun one, if you'll humor me. On my birthday. I know five is a lot, but maybe this is. This may be the best one, I think. How about a good one? I'm over four. Here we go. When I hear the name Bill Belichick today, my first thought is, and here's your five choices. The genius who won all those Super Bowls with the Patriots. The debate who deserves more credit, him or Brady. The embarrassing start of the North Carolina Tar Heels. The boss, his much younger girlfriend, Jordan Hudson. Or the fifth one when I'm 73 and if everything is still functioning properly, I hope my wife would be amenable to a 24 year old joining us in the bedroom. It can't hurt to ask, right? Come on. It can't hurt to ask. That's not involved in what he's doing day to day. Yeah, yeah. There's not a, you know, a wife in there with him. That's the wild card, fifth choice. That's the one I put in parentheses. But I said it out loud, too far off the board. Yeah, man. It's your birthday or I would run you out of here today. You'd run me for that? Yeah. I would like to know what you, which one you would take of those. What? When you think of Bill Belichick, what's the first thing that comes to mind today? A North Carolina mess. Okay. Yeah, fair enough. That would be choice number three. Or C. The embarrassing start at North Carolina for those playing at home. Thank you, Todd. Happy birthday. Thank you. Teddy in South Carolina. Hi, Teddy. What's on your mind? Hey, guys. 6, 1, 2, 10. Long time, first time, Dan. Love the show and what you all do. I'm considering retiring on the same day you retire. So let's keep up the good work. I have an idea. Relative to Fritzi's T shirt, I'm trying to get in for several days. I think there should be an option where it's in reverse where he can see it in the rear view mirror. Maybe it's a license plate, maybe it's a T shirt. But consider selling the reverse version. And a zipper merge is there on purpose. Don't all line up in the left. You're supposed to keep going. It works for everybody. Thank you. Thank you, Teddy. Thank you, Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris. Hey. Thanks, Dan. Hey, two things to throw at you. Number one, I heard LeBron is out four to six weeks with sciatica, and I'm wondering, he's 40 years old. This is 23rd year in the league. Does he still have the will, the stamina, and mainly the desire to keep. To keep going, fighting through all these nagging injuries? And last night, I heard a contributing factor to why the medical staff for the Eagles helped Jalen Carter out was how awful MetLife turf is. And if that's the case, you think the NFL would do something about it, especially since they're so worried about injuries. And I know all the other countries in the world, when the world comes, they're not playing at it. They're switching them all over to grass. Yeah. And Jalen Carter had a heel injury, I believe, and then they kept him out of that game, which is pretty remarkable. Sciatica. I've had it. I was in New York and I was in there for. They were giving out the Sportsman of the Year, Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. I was going to host it. Michael Phelps was going to be Sportsman of the Year, come down to the lobby, and all of a sudden, boom, hit me, and I had to crawl out of the hotel into a car, and I had to have it take me home. And Dick Ebersol, the former head of NBC Sports, they brought him in to host the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. Yes, Paulie. Was it like that scene in Wolf of Wall street where DiCaprio is high and he's crawling to the Lamborghini? Yes. I'm not laughing at you. There was no Margot Robbie waiting for me or a Lamborghini. But, I mean, it's an old man condition. LeBron's not old. But, man, oh, man, that hurts. One hour in the books. Two more. Hey, it's Fritzi's birthday. Happy birthday. Happy. Host: Dan Patrick (and the Danettes)
Podcast Network: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
This episode of The Dan Patrick Show centers on the surprising Thursday night NFL upset, with the New York Giants defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, fueled by breakout performances from rookie quarterback Jackson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo. Dan and the Danettes also cover the Phillies’ season-ending loss to the Dodgers in dramatic (and heartbreaking) fashion, touch on the state of Philly sports, major college football matchups coming up, and add humor and banter for Fritzy’s birthday.
"I don’t even think he was looking toward first base at all or the catcher… He saw the runner going home as soon as he bobbled the ball." (19:30)
Dan, on Giants’ surprise win:
"Surprise, surprise, and you know you're seeing something. And granted it's the embryonic stages here with the Giants." (09:10)
Dan, on Jackson Dart's playing style:
"I love your mobility, but I want you to continue to have mobility. Slide. Don’t take on DBs. Nobody cares. You don’t have to be a tough guy. Slide." (10:55)
Brian Daboll (Giants coach), postgame:
"Another good game by a rookie quarterback, but another good game from everybody around him. And that's what we needed. It's not about one guy, it's about a team." (Paraphrased, ~11:50)
Rob Thomson (Phillies manager), on the loss:
"He just got caught up in the moment a little bit... But we win as a team and we lose as a team." (16:35)
Marvin, on Phillies pitcher’s error:
"As soon as you bobble that ball, everything he just said went out the window. He panicked and threw the ball to the wrong place." (20:10)
Paulie, on Cam Skattebo:
"He runs like you just said something about his family… When I watch him, there's a combination of Marshawn Lynch and Larry Csonka." (47:10)
Caller Lucas, on concussion tent incident:
"The Giants behavior was pretty inappropriate with Jackson Dart’s possible concussion. It just kind of made a mockery of the whole thing." (1:04:15)
Dan, on ESPN and gambling:
"Do I like the look for ESPN and gambling? I do not. Not at all. But it's big business, and that's the bottom line." (1:16:50)
Fritzy’s humorous poll:
"When I hear the name Bill Belichick today, my first thought is... The boss, his much younger girlfriend, Jordan Hudson. Or... when I'm 73 and if everything is still functioning properly, I hope my wife would be amenable to a 24 year old joining us in the bedroom." (1:46:25)
This episode blends sharp sports analysis, quick wit, and the familiar laid-back banter that fans of The Dan Patrick Show expect. The tone is conversational, sometimes irreverent, with genuine fan frustration (especially around Phillies/Eagles losses and concussion protocols), and punctuated by affectionate jabs about birthdays and broadcasting. The crew mixes insight with empathy for players, coaches, and fans, but never shies from offering critical, honest takes about what’s really happening on and off the field.
