You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. We did it. We made it to a Friday and yes, it is a meet Friday. We got a great guest list, a lot of things to talk about and glad you're part of the program, whether you're listening or you're watching on TV or maybe doing both. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, or listening on our great radio affiliates around the country, he's Shooter McGavin. He's Christopher McDonald. Happy Gilmore 2 comes out today on Netflix. Also talk to the Ravens running back Derrick Henry now that the Sandman said that he'll be in his next movie whether he gets 2,000 yards or not. Jimmy Graham, former Pro bowl tight end. He did something where he was rowing across the Arctic Ocean with a group of other people raising money. And he will. He lived to tell about it. He'll join us coming up a little bit later on as well. 8773-DP-SHoM Email Address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter Handle DP Show Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Play the Day Poll Question Stat of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. It's the first phase of NFL training camp. It's the hype phase. You know the drill where there's one moment, a quote, maybe a clip, something goes viral and then all of a sudden we got a referendum on a player's career. Oh the latest victim is Aaron Rodgers. What happened? He threw an interception in preseason. Supposed to hit DK Metcalf. Well, social media went crazy. Rogers looks cooked. His mechanics are gone. Those are some of the takes. They came in fast and furious. So let's slow down. It is late July. It is practice. Rogers on a new team, new receivers, new timing. And time to slow down just a little bit. Okay, remember Jamar Chase when he came in as a rookie, he couldn't catch passes. Remember that was a big story in training camp. Oh, my gosh. Well, he went on to set rookie records and nearly won a Super bowl, so take a deep breath. I'm guessing Aaron Rodgers still knows how to play. Jamar Chase wasn't a bust. It's just camp hype. Runs wild, takes run hot, perspective runs a little too low. And also some of my cohorts constituents pointed this out. J.J. watt did. Nick Wright did this yesterday. Can we be careful with training camp stats? Oh, he went seven for seven. Okay. Are you allowed to hit him? Is there a defense who's playing against that guy? Just little things like that. And if a player gets carted off, I mean, carted off sounded pretty serious for Justin Fields. Now, granted, it's still a dislocated toe. I like how we're kind of going well, man, it could have been worse. He's got a dislocated toe. Those are the kind of things that can stay with you the entire season. Plus, this is a guy who is a run first quarterback, but carded off more details from Adam Schefter coming up. Such an shedor. Sanders went seven for seven. Okay, against who? Was there any defense? No, but he went seven for seven. Okay, I know we're jonesing for football, but let's put it in perspective at least just a little bit and maybe ease up, ease off the Dallas Cowboys accelerator. That Dak Prescott talks about their super bowl chances. Who cares? Don't you have to be a good enough team? Okay, so I don't know, Bryce Young talks about his super bowl chances. Nobody cares. Caleb Williams maybe because they'll probably be a playoff team. Or Jared Goff. Okay, but the Cowboys, you're over. Under is what, seven and a half or eight and a half? But it just feels like we go all into the deep end when it comes to training camp. Let's ease in just a little bit, okay? Can we, can we, can we put up a stop sign? How about a blinking light? Okay. Doesn't have to be a red light, just a blinking light. Just a Little caution as we travel through training camp. Seton will do the honors with a poll question today. This first hour brought to you by Mako. Your car could use a little love, a little tlc, and that's what Mako does. They bring your car back to life. Affordable paint jobs, light collision repairs. Get a free estimate today. Oh, better get Mako. It's like Jackson dart with the Giants. His first pass. Oh, he intercepted. Oh, my God, he's a bust. Slow down. Just slow down. Let's all hold hands and ease in to training camp together.
Paul Pabst
Yes, Paul, Dan, I could find you a dozen different versions of Aaron Rodgers headlines off his first pass. Rogers era not starting well in Pittsburgh was an actual headline from a major outlet. Why isn't it that Pittsburgh Steelers defense often running. Why isn't it a positive about the Steeler defense interview? You know, something like that.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, you're right.
Seton O'Connor
Seems factually correct that it did not start out well for Aaron Rodgers. I would guess a better start would be throwing a completion rather than interception.
Sarah Spain
Maybe the Giants defense. Oh, maybe the Giants defense looks sharp already picking off Jackson darling. Yes, yes. How about some positivity here? You know, reports and positivity. It is a meat Friday chicken, bacon, avocado sliders, sesame crusted ahi tuna sliders. Banana pudding has it better than we do. There was a golf competition yesterday and the winners got to pick something on the menu or put something on the menu with meat Friday. And Seaton won. So he put the chicken, bacon, avocado sliders and then Marvin put banana pudding on there.
Seton O'Connor
That's right.
Sarah Spain
Okay, I'm not going to object to that. I got no, no critiques. Criticism with that. Sliders, kings, Hawaiian rolls. Can't go wrong with that. All right, Seaton, what's poll question for the first hour of the program?
Seton O'Connor
Well, the tow has sent in a bunch of options.
Sarah Spain
Okay. I did see these. Okay.
Marvin
All right.
Seton O'Connor
I've been looking at though, because obviously today's a very special day. I've been looking at a list on Rotten Tomatoes of the greatest sequels ever.
Sarah Spain
Oh.
Seton O'Connor
Based on the tomato meter. Whatever you say that Tomatometer.
Sarah Spain
Whatever. Okay, but this is with Happy Gilmore 2. Has rotten tomatoes come out with their tomatoes?
Seton O'Connor
I haven't looked at that just yet. Okay, we're going to take Happy Gilmore 2 off the list because. Too early to tell. Too. Too early to call right now.
Sarah Spain
Okay. All I care about is the reviews of my. My role.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, it's a little too early, but their. Their list of the greatest sequels ever based on that Rating is crazy. Or maybe not crazy, but shocking. Can you guess what the number one sequel of all time was?
Sarah Spain
Godfather 2.
Seton O'Connor
Godfather 2 is seventh on the list.
Sarah Spain
Okay.
Paul Pabst
Yes, Paul, I'm gonna guess. Aliens. Alien was. Was really good. Aliens was even bigger and better.
Seton O'Connor
I have aliens as 12 on that list. The number one sequel, the best rated sequel of all time is Paddington 2.
Sarah Spain
No. What?
Paul Pabst
I don't know what that is.
Seton O'Connor
Paddington 2? Yeah, the bear. It came out in 2017. That is considered, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the greatest sequel of all time. Number two is Toy Story 2. Oh, Toy Story 2, 3, and 4 pretty much round out, like, the top. I don't know, top six, top seven, something like that.
Sarah Spain
Okay, what about movies that weren't animated movies?
Seton O'Connor
There's a movie called Three Colors Red. I'm not sure what that is. I've never heard of that. Goldfinger, the James Bond sequel from 64. That's number four on the list. Before Midnight, Godfather 2, Bride of Frankenstein, Mission Impossible, Fallout. That was a great movie. That was a really good movie. That's a top 10. Mad Max Fury Road is a crazy list.
Sarah Spain
Okay. Yes, Todd.
Bob Crawford
So things like Indiana Jones, Star wars, that kind of stuff, those aren't sequels.
Marvin
I.
Bob Crawford
Maybe I don't know the full understanding of definition.
Sarah Spain
Well, what is a sequel and what is the next part of a trilogy? Is that fair to say that? It's not a sequel, it's just the Next chapter.
Seton O'Connor
The first Star wars movie on here, Empire Strikes Back. All considered one of the greatest sequels of all time for sure. But according to this is 27 on the list.
Sarah Spain
Dang.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, Paul, a sequel is not necessarily part two. It's any progression of the story. So 2, 3, and 4, like Rocky 2, 3 and 4, is the progression of the story. A couple more sequels that were really good. How about Terminator 2, Judgment Day? Yeah, that's a great action flick.
Seton O'Connor
Definitely up there.
Sarah Spain
Yeah. Well, Happy Gilmore 2 comes out today on Netflix. All right, what are the other questions that Fritzi is posing today?
Seton O'Connor
Let's see. Todd. Well, I'm gonna let Todd read his thoughts.
Sarah Spain
Okay. Yeah, these are, these are random thoughts that I, I, I came in this morning and I went, wow, that's some deep thoughts from Fritzi. Okay, so some of the poll questions, suggestions?
Bob Crawford
Toddler with NFL camps open for business. My summer camp was day camp. Sleepaway Cap, staying home, didn't go to camp at all.
Sarah Spain
Okay, just what exactly does that mean?
Bob Crawford
I'm curious if people had an experience, because with NFL training camps open, playing off of camp and it's the summertime. Did you go to sleepaway camp? Did you just go to day camp? Or were you someone that never went to camp?
Sarah Spain
Oh, okay. So this is. As a child, did you do any of these? Yes.
Bob Crawford
With NFL camps open for business, my summer camp was okay.
Seton O'Connor
Oh, so like, as a kid, did you used to go to sleep away camp or did you just not go to camp at all kind of thing.
Sarah Spain
Got it. Yeah.
Bob Crawford
And some kids just went to, like day camp and then you go home at the end of the day.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, I didn't go to camp. What else do you have?
Bob Crawford
What would you have done, brother, if the Hulkster was about to run wild all over you?
Sarah Spain
The choices are, what are the options?
Bob Crawford
I try to fight him. Don't recommend that. Run away as fast as I can. Compliment him on his 24 inch pythons and reason with him. Tell him how much you loved him as Thunder lips in Rocky 3. Ask to see the script so you know exactly what's going to happen to you and when.
Sarah Spain
That's a funny line. Yes. The Hulkster passing away at the age of 71. First time I ran into him, and this was a literal running into him, I was working at CNN in New York, and I remember he came in and he was going to be on one of their business shows. Well, he came in as Hulk Hogan. He came storming in. We're right across the Madison Square Garden. This had to be 1985, maybe. And he came in and walked all around the newsroom, and he came in full character. But back then, I mean, I don't. I don't think you can overstate the importance that he had. And I know it's. Obviously, it's scripted and, you know, we don't need to go down that rabbit hole of what wrestling is. It's business, okay? It's entertainment. Whatever you derive from it. Good for you. I was never into wrestling, but I appreciated the entertainment. To go out there and do that night in and night out, come up with these scripts, come up with these characters, and to be able to buy into those characters, whether you were a fan, who was going to be the good guy, who was going to be the heel, all of those things. But I just remember Hulk was different. And his impact, I don't think can be overstated. What else do you have? Toddler.
Bob Crawford
To what extent is professional wrestling fake? All of it. Some of it. None. It's real to me. Damn it. You think it is a man.
Sarah Spain
We don't want to go down this rabbit hole It's. It's entertainment. If it's scripted, good for them. I'm. I'm assuming most of it's scripted. I think you still have to be athletic enough to pull off all of this. So I. It's entertainment. Leave it at that.
Paul Pabst
Yes, Paul, Fake kind of is an insulting word for wrestlers. They don't like the word fake. If you say predetermined, they're fine with that.
Sarah Spain
Okay, yeah, like the.
Seton O'Connor
It's scripted, but the physicality is real.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, yeah. You know, yeah, I'm fine with that. It. If you go there knowing what it is, you can't go, oh, that he didn't get hit. That's not real blood. But, you know, when you go back to the old days when they would hide a razor blade and then they would carve up their foreheads, I remember being around a wrestler and he was talking about that, that, you know, he said, what do you think, Botox? And I go, I don't know if Botox will fix those scars. Just cut himself in the forehead. So if you, you know, bang into the turnbuckle or whatever, you know, a folding chair. And I always go back when I think of the wrestlers. The wrestlers came into the mothership when I was there, and we did a couple of this is SportsCenter promotional videos with them, and they were wonderful. They were great sports. They appreciated, you know, who we are and what we did and all of that. But when I did the Stone Cold Steve Austin when I was it, you know, so the premise is I'm working late and I'm trying to stay awake, and I go into the break room and Stone Cold Steve Austin is there and he needs a little pick me up. And he said, you know, can you grab that chair and hit me in the back? And if you see the video, it turned out great. But what, you know, the number of takes that we had, it took probably seven or eight takes for me to feel comfort, confident, and comfortable enough to hit him on a little pad that he had taped to his back. I had to hit him. And it was smaller. It was like a loaf of bread about that size. And he said, hey, just hit me there. And I think he had had back surgery. I mean, they all have back surgeries. But I remember him saying, just hit me there. I'll be fine. So I have a folding chair and I'm swinging, but I'm not swinging hard because I. I don't know what's going to happen. I mean, if I miss or it ricochets up and hits him in the back of the head. And I remember him yelling at me, he was mad at me that I wasn't swinging the chair hard enough. So the one take that we used, there's papers on a bulletin board in the break room. And I swung and you could see those papers flying in the wind. And man, did I hit him. I hit him as hard as I possibly could. And he went, thank you, Dan. Thank you. And I think he even asked for another. But he was very generous and you could tell they knew what they were doing. And but he gave me a very small target. Thank goodness I hit it. All right, we're just getting started. So Shooter McGavin will join us coming up next hour. And Derrick Henry, we'll talk to him about his role in an upcoming Sandler movie. Now he doesn't have to get 2,000 yards. I don't know what this does for fantasy football drafts that maybe the motivation might not be there because he doesn't have to have the required 2,000 yards to get in the movie. So just getting started. We're back after this Dan Patrick Show. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Hey, we're Covino and Rich, FOX Sports radio every day, 5 to 7pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We never have enough time to get to everything we want to get to. And that's why we have a brand new podcast called Over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in our two hour show. We never get to everything honestly, because this guy is over promising things we never have time for. Yeah, you blubber lips blaming me. Well, you know what? It's called Over Promise. You should be good at it because you've been overpromising women for years. Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show and we want you to be a part of it. So what happened to Chappaquiddick? Well, it really depends on who you talk to.
Sarah Spain
There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond and.
Dan Patrick
Left a woman behind to drown. There's a famous headline, I think, in the New York Daily News. It's Teddy Escapes, Blonde Drowns. And in a strange way, right, that sort of tells you the story really became about Ted's political future, Ted's political hopes. Will Ted become President?
Sarah Spain
Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control.
Commercial Voiceover
And he's not the only Kennedy to survive a scandal.
Sarah Spain

If you're looking to get more out of your car wash. Try McGuire's new Hybrid Ceramic wash and wax in a bucket or foam cannon. Boost protection with extreme water beating technology the next time you wash your car or truck. Meguiar's reflection your passion let's decide on a poll question here for the first hour. And if I threw out this question, what exactly are you looking for from your team at training camp? Because the first thing I want to know, all the draft picks in no holdouts and can we get through injury free? Those are the things that I would start out with simple questions. Let's just get through. No drama, no injuries. Now, is there going to be a surprise at training camp? Yes, every training camp has a surprise. Now it might be a good surprise or a bad surprise. You know, the Raiders released defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and he was battling injuries. It's a cost cutting move. But man, I remember watching him for some reason, I had a couple of years where I fell in love with interior defensive linemen. Be like, man, look at Gerald McCoy. And these were guys I go back to Steve Entman, who played at Washington, drafted by the Colts, had knee surgeries, never lived up to the potential. But in who was the his last name was Shelton. With Danny Shelton, Washington State. I think he wore number eight or nine. And I was like, man, I love these guys. For some reason I would watch a football game and I was fascinated with these guys who it just felt like disrupted everything. And Christian Wilkins looked like he was the thing and then he turned out that he wasn't the thing and he just got released.
Paul Pabst
Yes, Paul, those guys are transfixing. When I watch a Chiefs game, I watch Chris Jones. I see what happens off the line with Chris Jones because he kind of decides what happens next. And you look at those guys. Remember a bunch of years ago there was that guy at Notre Dame, Louis Nix, he was number one and he just wreaked havoc. And you never know what way they're going to go, but they're so much fun to watch.
Sarah Spain
Yeah. And you know, most people would focus on the quarterback going back to pass, but I always look at the lineman because that's going to dictate what happens in the play. Because when you go, boy, that guy was wide open, why didn't he get him the ball? Well, that defensive lineman just hit him or that tackle just missed a block there or, you know, they're great protection and he was able to have an extra two seconds. Yes, Marv, the way you felt about.
Bob Crawford
Christian Wilkins was the way I felt about Glenn Dorsey from LSU. I thought he was Reggie White, Aaron.
Sarah Spain
Donald, 2.0, BJ Raji. You know, once again, I. I'm falling in love with 300 pound men. I gotta tell my wife. Yes, Paul.
Paul Pabst
15 years ago and Domicon Suit Nebraska dominated college football. He was one of the faces of college football. As an interior defensive lineman. He had a very good NFL career. But if you would have said coming out of Nebraska, is he going to the hall of Fame, I would have had a finger on it.
Sarah Spain
Yeah. Couple of phone calls in here. Let's see. How about Buda in San Francisco? Welcome back, Buddha.
Marvin
No, buddy. Happy me Friday, boys. Let's go. Fritz C. Let's go. Hey, Dan, I. I love the whole family feud talk unfolding this week. And, you know, I failed to reveal that on the last Friday at Lake Tahoe, I, I was following Rich and I had an exchange with him from hole six to hole seven where, you know, Steph had that legendary hole in one. And as he's going up to hole 17, I said, hey, Rich, looks like the. Looks like the Rich Eisen show has a revenge show coming up and should have a little, A little revenge issue with the DP Show. And he looks at me and he goes, you're not wrong. And it was just so funny because he just like, had this smirk. Like, I was like, yeah, he knows. He knows.
Sarah Spain
Yeah. But it's over with. He came to his senses. He realized he got some bad intel from his staff, and he realizes that he make. He made a bad, bad mistake. And as a mentor to him, I'm trying to help him. And he trusted his guys and. And once again, he paid the price.
Seton O'Connor
You're not wrong.
Sarah Spain
You're not wrong. A little drama. There it is. It has been fun, though. You know, the number of people who have talked about that, people I haven't even heard from in years. They don't even know if I'm still doing a show. But they'll be like, hey, don't know what you're doing in your career, but loved you on Celebrity Family Feud. Be like, okay. Or you'll meet somebody who goes, what other. What else do you do besides acting? And I go, oh, thank you. I. I host a show. Where can I see it? I have no idea. Peacock. Can I hear it? Yeah, it's on the radio, people yet. When I worked at espn, they thought I was a cable guy. You know, I, I gave them information. What channel are you? I go, I have no idea. Your. Your cable may be different than cable in other places. I don't. I Would just say channel 27. They go, okay, like I didn't know. Where can I find espn? I don't. ESPN finds you. Let's see Doug in North Carolina. Hi, Doug. What's on your mind?
Marvin
Well, Dan, in honor of your movie coming out today, I have a trivia question for you on your co star, Scottish Scheffler. Want to see if you can get this right?
Sarah Spain
Okay.
Marvin
He famously avid golf fans will remember early on in his career, he would drive to these tournaments in a 2012 GMC Yukon that his father purchased him as a graduation gift. He famously drove it to the masters. The first time he won this vehicle with 190,000 miles just sold at auction. You can buy one online for about 8,500. Question one, how much do you think it went for just knowing that Scottish drove it and who bought it? And I'll give you a hint. It's a friend of the show.
Sarah Spain
Friend of the show. Scotty Scheffler's. It's a Yukon.
Marvin
It's a 2012 Yukon XL with 190,000 miles. Not a collector. Excited?
Sarah Spain
Okay. All right.
Paul Pabst
Yes, Paul, I just found the story. I'll give you a little hint. He's a. Hello, friend of the show.
Sarah Spain
Oh, hello, friends. Okay, so $25,000 from Jim Nance.
Marvin
50,000. And I'm wondering if he drives it around town or if it's just the show piece. Would you, if you own that, would you drive it?
Sarah Spain
I, well, I wouldn't own it, but if I bought it, I guess. But you know, where I live it, nobody cares about any. You know, it's like I was driving it. I don't think anybody go, oh, you got the Scotty Scheffler Yukon vehicle. Yeah. Nobody's going to care. Yes, Paulie.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. Scotty and his family put the car up 190,000 miles. The money went to a charity down there in Texas and Nance bought it to give to the charity. But Nance did put it at his home.
Sarah Spain
Well, his home in Nashville or his home out at Pebble Beach.
Paul Pabst
I have Pebble Beach.
Sarah Spain
Okay. All right. I don't think Jim drove it. I don't.
Paul Pabst
Cross country.
Sarah Spain
I don't think so. Hey, kids, we're going cross country. Get in my 2013 Yukon XL. Let's see. Rich in Newport Beach. Hi, Rich. What's on your mind today?
Marvin
Hey, dan. Happy me Friday. Six, five and improving. 225. I wanted to. I wanted to call in as an ambassador of the dead dads club. The fact is that I Have two dead dads. Well, and a dead dog. The triple crown, I guess. However, my unique situation is that my biological father and my stepdad both died. Although in different years, but on the exact same calendar. Day of the year, tomorrow, July 26th. I tell everybody the good news is I can get all my grief out in one day. But both were good men, both loved Guinness beer. And I honor them each year by going to one of their favorite restaurants and drink a pint of Guinness in their memory. My question to you and the Dan, it's is, do you do anything in the honor or to honor your fathers on the anniversary of their death day? Marvin can pass if he wants, but I appreciate you and thanks for making us laugh.
Sarah Spain
Paulie, you want to go first since I think you were the youngest when you lost your dad.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, I think I was 11. I do a thing every year on the anniversary of my dad's death where I hand out candy to kids who come over and knock on our door because he died on Halloween. So that's my tradition. Good times.
Sarah Spain
Did you go trick or treating that night after your dad died?
Paul Pabst
I did not. I found out around 3:30pm Chicago time and just when all the bros in the neighborhood were getting ready to trick or treat. So I did not participate that year.
Sarah Spain
Todd, do you celebrate honor your dad dying?
Bob Crawford
I don't do anything on that specific day. I have my way of communicating regular prayer and things like that, whether it's in a synagogue or just in a private moment. But on that date of November 3, 1991 and future November Thirds, it was marathon weekend. So maybe I'll take an extra lap around the neighborhood.
Paul Pabst
I don't believe that for a second.
Sarah Spain
No way.
Bob Crawford
There is no way I was supposed to work the New York City Marathon. The day passed away and. And obviously that didn't happen. So I thought that might be a clever thing. But I actually don't do that.
Sarah Spain
Yes, I like how you said take another lap. You have to take one lap.
Bob Crawford
You have to take the first lap to have subsequent laps.
Sarah Spain
Marvin, do you honor your dad who's dead to you? Huh?
Bob Crawford
I'll skip this one.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, I don't do anything with my dad. I just know I. I think it. October 15th is the start of practice for college basketball. And that's. I just remember that time, October 15th. But yeah, he's. He's been dead over 40 years. Yes. Seaton. How about. Well, your dad's live.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, I was going to call him and see if he wanted me to do anything when that day comes. But I don't know. I might call him later. Maybe not.
Sarah Spain
Well, you have that option.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, I do. Yeah. I mean, he's still alive. Yeah, still alive. Aaron. And Fresno. Hi, Aaron. What's on your mind?
Marvin
Thanks for taking my call. DP Dan. Happy Beat Friday, boys. I got two sequels that I wanted to throw in the mix and a shout out. But real quick, I just want to say, rest in peace, Hulk Hogan. The World Lost a Trucer Superhero. With that being said, brothers. The Hangover 2 and the Matrix 2. They had a first movie, tough follow up, but I feel like I find myself watching those more than the originals. And I was going to give a shout out to my boy Buddha in San Francisco. I'll see you next weekend at the Grateful Dead 60th anniversary concert. You guys are the best. Smile and breathe.
Sarah Spain
Thank you, Aaron. I've not been to a Grateful Dead concert. Haven't been to a fish concert. But people who go to those concerts, swear by them. But whenever I think of fish, I think of a dinner that I had in New York City, and it was in Madison Square Garden, and there were three other guys who were going to the fish show. And they said, hey, we got an extra ticket. And I go, no. And then I remember they took out a little pill and. And so they were passing around Molly, and I'm thinking, I said, do you have to take that to go to a fish show? And they go, it helps. I go, I don't. I don't need. It's like when you. You're betting, you're gambling because you can't watch, you know, a crappy game, so you have to have money on it. Like, I'm guessing fish is a lot of fun, visually stimulating. I just. And we've had Trey Anastasio on. We had him on in New York City years ago. He was great guest. But, hey, this would help if you go to these shows. Grateful Dead. I just never. I did, you know, it missed me or I didn't catch them. The music didn't, as we like to say, speak to me.
Paul Pabst
Yes, Paulie, what is the biggest concert you guys have ever been to? Like, mass of people, huge stadium that you could recall.
Sarah Spain
I. I don't go to festivals, so I'm. I probably, you know, just stadiums. I remember seeing U2 at Giant Stadium. So that's what, 75,000, I'm guessing. But, you know, you see some of these, like Glastonbury. Oh, it's. It's just forever. Wembley Stadium. You know, I still Marvel at Queen. When Queen went out there and just dominated. And that was, you know, one of the last shows with Freddie Mercury. But I, I, I don't, I don't do the festivals. What about you, Seaton?
Seton O'Connor
Probably a festival like that, like one of those big outdoor concerts. Austin City Limits was pretty big. I don't know how many people that gets. But yeah, you know what I saw right after his, the album Good Kid, Mad City, Kendrick Lamar headlined that, and that was one of the coolest concerts I've ever seen. That was awesome. And the Cure played that year, too. I went right from the Cure to Kendrick Lamar or vice versa. I forget which it was, but I was like, I don't know that it gets any better than this. If somehow Nirvana could show up, this is exactly me, you know, that was awesome.
Sarah Spain
Yes.
Bob Crawford
Todd, Billy Joel and Elton John with their pianos facing each other at the Great Western Forum, I thought was awesome. And Tay Tay in Foxborough. Those are the biggest ones that I ever attended.
Sarah Spain
Okay, yeah, yeah. You get 75, 80,000 in those football stadiums. Yes. Paul.
Paul Pabst
When I was pretty young, I saw Bruce Springsteen at Soldier Field, and it was general admission, which I think was a mistake because people were swarming for seats. Only the first maybe 20, 30 rows were you had a ticket. But I can remember thousands of people pushing in to grab the best seats, and it felt like, chaotic.
Sarah Spain
Let's see. Ryan in Oregon. Hi, Ryan. What's on your mind today? How about Ted in San Diego? Hi, Ted.
Marvin
With Hulk Hogan's passing, what I think people lose sight of is how tall the guy was. I once walked past him in a Hard Rock Cafe in Singapore, and I had to look up at him, and he was sitting down. They're all. The scale is lost because, you know, they're six five, fighting seven two. So I think that the people lose sight of 290 pounds getting tossed around.
Sarah Spain
Yeah. And they got to be agile. And agile. But you got to have strength. You have to have, you know, acting chops. You have to be charismatic. I mean, there's a whole lot that goes into that. It's not just going up there and following a script. Ryan in Oregon, we'll try it again. Rye, are you there?
Marvin
Yes, I am. Dan Patrick, first time, long time. 6 foot 2, 20. I got a new angle on your retirement coming up here in two and a half years. I actually want to thank you for retiring. And I know that's kind of a shock, right? For the rest of DP Nation, this is kind of shocking, but I just want to say thank you because for the first time in seven years, shout out to my dad, Greg Graven, who got me into this dang show. I'll actually have some time on my hands. I can now listen to audiobooks, right? I can learn how to be a better dad through, you know, different podcasts, right? Other than just yours. I download your show before I take a flight. I listen to it on every drive and I just want to thank you for finally giving me some time back in my life, sir.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, that's all I do is give. Thank you, Ryan. But if you listen to the show, you can become a better dad, a better husband. That advice is free, but if you want to find that another podcast, then go get them. Take a break here. We got Play of the Day coming up and also we're going to play an NFL game right after this. Seton O'Connor
That's what I have, yeah.
Paul Pabst
So this is the team in the NFL you could see either going really far like the AFC or NFC title game or completely missing the playoffs. So extremes. I'm going to let everyone think about it for two minutes.
Sarah Spain
Great. Or garbage. What did they do? Mike in St. Louis. Hi Mike. What's on your mind today?
Marvin
Hey. Hi Dan. Long time listener, first time caller. I got a question. You guys were talking about the NFL last week and or this week actually. And it tend to my senses that the players just can't get together. They can't hire the right guy to represent them. I was thinking Steve Young would be a great choice and just want to See what you guys think of that.
Sarah Spain
I don't know if Steve would want the headaches with it, and there's travel with it. I don't know. He would be great at it, and he's got a law degree. But I thought Dominique Foxworth, who worked with the Players association before he works at the Mothership, very bright. He would be my pick and maybe have him in there as a temporary executive director of the NFL Players Association. They got to get. They got to get it together here because, you know, this is. The owners take advantage of this. You know, when they. When they have something that's fractured or in disarray and, you know the 18th game is going to come up at some point here soon. What exactly do you want if you're a player? I don't know. Just feels like when it comes to these negotiations, they get roughed up. You just have to have some continuity running through the Player Association. Sean and Daytona Beach. Hi, Sean. What's on your mind?
Marvin
Dan, thanks for calling me back. As of this morning, 6 foot and 187.6. Now, I have two things. First of all, with Hulk Hogan, as a kid who grew up in the 70s and 80s, and I share a birthday with the Hulkster, I felt like really close connection. And in my travels for many years, I was a general manager for a professional wrestling organization. So thank you to the boys for all of the memories and the friendships. That's awesome. But I have a question about the concert thing. Is it better to go see one band and see them for, like, Pearl Jam four hours and do an amazing show or go to a festival where you have a chance to see many bands in one day?
Sarah Spain
I don't want to go to a festival. I don't want to deal with that. So I would go. It's nice to sample other shows. And I get why, you know, Coachella and Bonnaroo and all these Glastonbury, that you get to see a lot of different acts. I don't know what the time frame is when they're on stage. If they say, all right, you're on stage for an hour. I don't know, because you're good. You're trying to cram in a lot of guests. By the way, I just got a recreation of the original Woodstock poster, and I got it signed by the guy who designed the Woodstock poster. The original Woodstock. Pretty cool. I don't know where I'm gonna put it, because that was first thing my wife said, go, where's it going? I go, I guess the man cave. But yeah, I would rather just go to see one band. It's just a hassle with those, you know, going to those big shows. All right, Paulie, we ready for the. The NFL game? We gave the setup, the premise there. It's either garbage or great. Yeah. All right, let's go around the room. What is your pick for either garbage or great this season, Paul?
Paul Pabst
The Minnesota Vikings, they won a lot of games last year. They won 14 games with Sam Darnold. They got a exciting question mark at quarterback. I could see them either winning the division or missing the playoffs.
Sarah Spain
All right, Todd. Great.
Bob Crawford
We're going to be positive on the great side. Bryce Young, with a strong last part of the season. The 5 and 12 Carolina Panthers will be much improved in the NFC staff.
Sarah Spain
Okay, so you're saying they'll be great. Yeah, it's either great or garbage.
Bob Crawford
I'm going to go great. I could see them being threatening for a playoffs.
Paul Pabst
That's not the game. That's not at all the game we are setting up. It's a team that could have extremes in their result.
Bob Crawford
I thought you meant who's going to be extremely better or worse this year. That's not what it is.
Paul Pabst
No.
Sarah Spain
Satan, Great or garbage.
Seton O'Connor
I'm gonna say the Atlanta Falcons, they. They got some dudes there. They were 8 and 9 last year. NFC south is always kind of a grab bag. Like, who the hell knows what's going to happen there? I don't know. They could be great this year. They could also be horrible. I'm not really sure which it's going to be.
Sarah Spain
Okay. All right, fair enough. Marvin Greater garbage.
Bob Crawford
The Los Angeles Rams, they got devonte Adams. They still got Matthew Stafford, but sometimes it speaks to famine with that team. I'm just not sure which Rams team I'm gonna get. So I got the Rams.
Sarah Spain
Yeah, I could see the Falcons going one way or another, and I could see the Vikings going one way or another as well. That coach with the Rams is too good. I don't see them going south. And as long as Stafford stays healthy, you got Puka Nakua. I mean, they. They did a really good job with some of their draft picks. And I. I have confidence in. In McVeigh. Yes, Paul?
Paul Pabst
Are the Steelers in this category?
Sarah Spain
Well, it feels like they're always around 9 and 8, right? Usually 10. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe. Maybe 10 and 7. Yes, Todd.
Bob Crawford
I could also see the Panthers being 3 and 14.
Sarah Spain
Thank you, Todd. There you go. You're back in the game.
Bob Crawford
They're gonna win 11 games or two games.
Sarah Spain
Alrighty. Coming up in about 10 minutes. Shooter McGavin. Christopher McDonald. Happy Gilmore, too. He was also in Thelma and Louise. He was. He played Thelma's husband. Great role there. Podcast Summary: The Dan Patrick Show – Hour 1: Hulk Hogan’s Passing, Best Sequels
Release Date: July 25, 2025
Host: Dan Patrick
Guests: Sarah Spain, Seton O'Connor, Bob Crawford, Marv, Paul Pabst, Tyler
Duration: 1 Hour
In the first hour of "The Dan Patrick Show" titled "Hulk Hogan’s Passing, Best Sequels," Dan Patrick, joined by co-host Sarah Spain and panelists Seton O'Connor, Bob Crawford, Marv, and Paul Pabst, dives deep into a mix of sports analysis, pop culture discussions, and heartfelt tributes. The episode sets a vibrant tone with engaging conversations and interactive segments, ensuring listeners are both entertained and informed.
Dan Patrick opens the episode by addressing the often frenzied media coverage surrounding NFL training camps. He critiques the tendency to make precipitous judgments about players' performances based on limited preseason data. Highlighting the case of Aaron Rodgers, Dan remarks:
“Remember Jamar Chase when he came in as a rookie, he couldn't catch passes. Remember that was a big story in training camp. Oh, my gosh. Well, he went on to set rookie records...”
[06:45] – Dan Patrick
Co-hosts and panelists echo the sentiment, stressing the importance of patience and perspective during the early stages of the NFL season. Seton O'Connor emphasizes slowing down the narrative:
“Can we put up a stop sign? How about a blinking light? Just a little caution as we travel through training camp.”
[07:15] – Seton O'Connor
Transitioning to a lighter topic, the hosts explore Rotten Tomatoes' list of the greatest sequels of all time. Surprisingly, "Paddington 2" tops the list, a revelation that stuns co-host Sarah Spain:
“Godfather 2 is seventh on the list.”
[10:51] – Seton O'Connor
The debate intensifies as they compare animated and live-action sequels, with Paul Pabst defending classics like "Aliens" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day":
“A sequel is not necessarily part two. It's any progression of the story.”
[12:00] – Paul Pabst
A poignant segment follows with the passing of Hulk Hogan. The hosts reminisce about Hogan's larger-than-life persona and his influence on both wrestling and entertainment. Sarah Spain shares a personal anecdote:
“First time I ran into him... he was walking all around the newsroom, full character. I don't think you can overstate the importance that he had.”
[14:25] – Sarah Spain
Dan Patrick adds depth by discussing the physical and performative demands of professional wrestling, emphasizing the blend of athleticism and scripting that made Hogan a standout figure.
The show opens up to heartfelt listener interactions, focusing on how individuals honor their fathers' memories. Bob Crawford shares his annual tradition:
“I hand out candy to kids who come over and knock on our door because he died on Halloween.”
[35:34] – Paul Pabst
Marv introduces a touching story about balancing grief, while Dan Patrick and Sarah Spain offer supportive responses, fostering a sense of community among listeners.
The conversation shifts to music, with hosts discussing preferences between attending large festivals and dedicated concerts. Seton O'Connor and Sarah Spain weigh the pros and cons, highlighting the immersive experience of festivals like Austin City Limits versus the intimate connection of single-band performances.
In an interactive segment, the panel debates which NFL teams might have extreme outcomes this season. Paul Pabst speculates on the Minnesota Vikings' potential:
“I could see them either winning the division or missing the playoffs.”
[53:56] – Paul Pabst
Seton O'Connor discusses the unpredictability of the Atlanta Falcons, while Bob Crawford expresses cautious optimism about the Carolina Panthers' improvements.
Dan Patrick introduces the "Play of the Day," spotlighting a remarkable moment from a Blue Jays game:
“A three-run homer and the Blue Jays have blown it open, leading 4-1 in the top of the sixth.”
[49:10] – Sarah Spain
This segment underscores the show's commitment to providing up-to-date sports highlights and engaging analyses.
Towards the end of the hour, the hosts delve into a historical discussion about the infamous Chappaquiddick incident involving Ted Kennedy. Sarah Spain contextualizes the event's impact on Kennedy's political aspirations:
“Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control.”
[24:34] – Sarah Spain
This thoughtful examination ties historical events to their lasting implications, enriching the show's content diversity.
As the first hour wraps up, Dan Patrick previews upcoming segments, including an interview with Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin) and a conversation with Derrick Henry about his role in an upcoming Adam Sandler movie, "The Sandman." The hosts express anticipation for continued engaging discussions and listener interactions in the next hour.
