You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Hope you had a great weekend, everybody. Gang all here, ready to go every Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like a lot to recap. And you got football coming up tonight. If we're looking at the oversaturation of the NFL, this would be a good litmus test here because you got two Monday night games. You had a Sunday night game. He had a Sunday morning game. He had a Thursday game as well. And they're going to run it back and do it again next week. 877-3-DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Good morning if you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner and we say good morning to our radio affiliates, Fox Sports Radio iheartradio First hour brought to you by Mako. Your car could probably use a little tlc. They got a paint sale going on right now. They bring your car back to life. Affordable paint jobs, light collision repairs. Get a free estimate today. Oh, better get Mako. Thursday morning we will be in South Bend and if you have an opportunity to join us, we'll be outside Legends Pub on the campus in Notre Dame. Thursday and Friday, first come first serve, standing room only. Parking is self directed there. And I'm not sure what the weather is. I didn't check. I just thought, okay, it'll be football weather in South Bend. Paulie, as our resident meteorologist, what's it looking like on Thursday and Friday?
Paulie Fusco
A little balmy, a little warm, almost high of 68 and partly cloudy. That's not football weather. It might be football weather when we start our show. Oh, which is 55 degrees is football weather.
Dan Patrick
But it can't be as cold as Las Vegas was when we were out there for the Super Bowl. Weirdly cold. Yeah, that's we were up at 4:30 in the morning and all of a sudden you go outside and you're like, oh, I hope those heat lamps are on. But it's great atmosphere. Been out there for a few football games. The atmosphere is wonderful. And USC coming to town off a big win against Michigan. That was A big one. That might be Lincoln Riley's biggest win of his career at usc. Not a lot of coverage because USC not ranked in the top 25. They will be. Now the big news over the weekend as James Franklin got fired as the head coach at Penn State. And when you're the first team since 1978 to lose consecutive games as a favorite of 20 or more points and you're already on a warm seat, they decided, I mean, $49 million to go away. I wish somebody would do that. Like, I don't want you around so much here, take this money and go away. But James Franklin, he'll get a job. If you look at his overall record, you go, dang, that's impressive. It is until you start looking at the meaningful games. And as I said last week and I heard from the Penn State alumni, why are you picking? Why are you piling on? I'm only pointing out something. If you want to be a big time program, you have to have high standards. Michigan wouldn't have settled for that. Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, just to name a few. You don't lose those games. You don't lose that many games to top 10 teams. And they did, and it cost him. But we'll talk to Rick Neuheisel, the former coach who's been fired a couple times. He works for cbs. He was out in Eugene for the Oregon game against Indiana and Indiana, Indiana dominated that game. That was a wonderful performance. And I thought, boy, can they hold up in that environment against an Oregon team that I thought was just going to be too fast. This is different for Indiana. Indiana. I didn't think Indiana was a playoff team last year. I certainly do this year. They got a quarterback, two receivers, the defense is really good. And you know, they could be talking about a bigger picture here by the end of the year. But we'll talk to Rick Neuheisel. And I'm watching newheisel. The CBS crew is on the field. And he gave an oh, by the way, that he didn't think Bill Belichick would be the head coach at North Carolina after this season. He'll talk about that. North Carolina had a bye week. Now they go out to Cal and who knows what happens if they come back with a loss. 8773 DP Show Email address dp@danpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow I'm going to be honest with you, as I always am. I forgot there was baseball last night. I forgot that the Blue Jays and the Mariners played last night. Game one of the alcs. Big dumper, hit a home run. And here is the call of the game winning. Do we have this, Marvin?
Snax
Yep.
Paulie Fusco
This is from Friday.
Dan Patrick
Oh, okay.
Tony Fusco
Yep.
Dan Patrick
Three, two, pitch on the way. Swung out, line drive, base in right field for a Polanco with a walk off single. And the Mariners are going to play for the American League championship. The Mariners win the battle in Seattle in 15 innings. The Mariners win it 3 to 2. So 15 innings on Friday, they get into the ALCS, they have to go to Toronto. I think they had travel problems, plane issues, delays. But then they pick up the win. Last night you have baseball today. Tonight you got Dodgers, brewers, game one. And you have Mariners, Blue Jays game too. I couldn't help but think when the brewers won. And the first thing I thought of, Vin Scully and Bob Euchre. Can you imagine that showdown between those teams? But those broadcasters in the building. First thing I thought of. But in memory of those great broadcasters, hopefully we get a great series. All right. Chiefs over the Lions. I guess everybody's back on the chief spanwagon. And they didn't have a penalty called last night on the Chiefs.
Paulie Fusco
Convenient.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Chargers over the Dolphins. It's more than just one loss. The Dolphins, that is a bad situation and they could have won that game. It's where, okay, you lost the game. You played pretty well. The Chargers did what you want them to do. They score. I just, I was surprised at Miami with two A tongue of Iloa's comments after the game because, you know, in a loss, I want to see what you do. I want to, I want to hear what you're talking about. You know, Aaron Glenn, the Jets head coach, wasn't really recognizing the elephant in the room. Talking about Justin Fields and how bad he played. Nine sacks, minus 10 yards passing. I'll give you that comment coming up in a moment. But here is Tua Tonga, Violoa, who threw three interceptions, talking about his teammates. I think it starts with the leadership.
Seaton
In helping articulate that for the guys.
Dan Patrick
And then what we're expecting out of the guys, right? We're expecting this. Are we getting that? Are we not getting that? We have guys showing up to player only meetings late. Guys not showing up to player only meeting. Like, there's a lot that goes into that. Do we have to make this mandatory? Do we not have to make this mandatory? So. So it, it's, it's a lot of. It's a lot of things of, of.
Seaton
That nature that we got to get cleaned up.
Dan Patrick
And it starts with the little things. Like that. Okay, if you're a leader, then why don't you handle this in house? Why did it get to a press conference? You're the quarterback. Why did it get to a press conference? You don't have to tell us everything. Tell us what we need to know, or you think we need to know now all of a sudden, I'm questioning your quarterback and I'm questioning your coach and the front office here and the players. Congratulations, you gave us the trifecta there. But when you throw three interceptions, that's when you have to go with your hat in your hand and say, hey, this starts with me, and I hope to get it together. I want all of us to meet and understand and air this out. So how we can, you know, rectify this? We're one in five right now, and they are playing as if they want to get their coach fired. And they're talking as if they want to get their coach fired. Don't tell me. You don't have to. I mean, I. I'm in the content business. I love it. But if I'm a teammate or I'm a coach. Shut up. Do what you need to do first. And then if you want to talk about other things, how about we talk as a group? But, man, that felt like. Man, this is leadership. Okay, maybe he is throwing himself under the bus, but it doesn't sound like that. You threw three picks. You were at home. You should have won the game. I don't think you should be calling people out. And, hey, guys are showing up late to meetings. If you have player only meetings after six weeks, that says an awful lot about your team. Player only meeting after week two, that says an awful lot, not only about the players, but also the coaches. All righty, Seaton, what's the poll question today? Oh, by the way, here's Aaron Glenn. He's the head coach of the Jets. And Justin Fields, did he have a 0.00 quarterback rating?
Paulie Fusco
You can't have a 0. You get. I think you get, like, 52 points just for showing up like the SATs. Oh, you get like 700.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right, here's the question to Aaron Glenn, the Jets head coach on Justin Fields for next week. Justin's numbers are not good for this game.
Snax
No.
Dan Patrick
Is he going to be your quarterback.
Paulie Fusco
Next week or week?
Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman
Come on, man.
Dan Patrick
What kind of question is that?
Snax
There's a number of guys that, you.
Dan Patrick
Know, I mean, sometimes this. This league is like this, and there are guys that have bad games. That doesn't mean you just bench Them?
Tony Fusco
Come on.
Dan Patrick
You know better than that. Okay, that's a fair question. It is. I mean, Aaron Glenn can act tough and talk about culture and whatever. You know what? That's a fair question. It's Justin Fields. He was sacked nine times, and I watched a lot of the game, and a lot of those are because of him. Because you hold on to the ball or you don't get rid of it quick enough or you try to make something happen with your legs. Feels like every week I talk about this. Get the ball out or go down. Get the ball out or go down. First read right there. Go. Kurt Warner was talking about that. One of the greatest quarterbacks at reading quickly getting the ball out. Kurt Warner is saying, you got a guy open right there. Go. It's. Well, he's kind. I, you know, maybe I can. No, it's right there. And this is the difference between that quarterback who comes out of college into the NFL and I got to do all of this in college, in high school, to the guy two or three years later who understands I need to get the ball out quickly, read it and react. And Justin Fields was running around, and I didn't think the jets offensive line was that bad, but he threw for 45 yards, and he was sacked nine times. So you could see, you could feel. Aaron Glenn's a little frosty, that. How dare you ask me if Justin Fields off that performance, is going to be my quarterback next week. All right, seat and pull. Question. What are you thinking about?
Seaton
Well, we normally start with who had the worst weekend, but this one I want to start before we can populate who had the worst weekend. We have to figure out if this person actually had a bad weekend or not. James Franklin.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Did he have a bad weekend? Got fired, lost another one. But is likely going to get picked up pretty soon by a probably pretty good program and got a massive check for getting fired. Is that a bad weekend?
Dan Patrick
It's an embarrassing weekend. It's like, you know, you have. You're a really good guy, but you had one night that you, you know, you. You messed up and you're like, all right, that feels bad. And you wake up the next day and you go, all right. And then further along, it doesn't feel as bad. I think the embarrassing part of that and. But, boy, that. It'll make you feel a whole lot better with that $49 million. So I would. I would say it in the moment. Had a bad night, bad weekend, lost his job. But bigger picture is, you're going to get paid and he'll coach someplace else next year.
Seaton
Yeah, but he's going to get that, you know, $49 million and then he's going to get hired at a place like Arkansas or something, who's going to be like, holy crap, we got James Franklin. This is amazing. And he's going to be treated like a savior there. That's how he's going to land on his feet for getting fired is crazy. I don't know that there is a more lucrative profession than being a failed college football coach.
Paulie Fusco
No doubt.
Seaton
It's the best gig in the world.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, and we'll talk to Rick Neuheisel about that. You know, did they do the right thing? Because this is mid season and this is where you don't want somebody to win their way back. And he could have won his way back. And then now you have a real dilemma as well. Well, I mean you could always fire him, but this is where this can't continue. But man, you have to ask the alumni in the boosters, hey, we, we have to pony up and pay this guy off. Somebody's got to write a check. Yeah, Paul.
Paulie Fusco
And this buyout for James Franklin goes back to 2021. In 2020 he was 4 and 5. In 2021 he was 7 and 6 and people were bailing on him. The current president gave him a 10 year extension after a 7, 6 season, which is still being questioned by people in Penn State. But the next three years, 11 wins, 10 wins, 13 wins.
Dan Patrick
Why a 10 year deal after a.
Paulie Fusco
Seven and six season?
Dan Patrick
I mean, even if, even if he was, you know, had 11 wins, like 10 years, it's an eternity. And yes, you may lose your coach, but you gotta be damn sure if you're gonna give him a 10 year deal, you have to be sure. And I was never sure in it because he didn't win big games. And if that's what you want to be and you want to prove that you belong with Ohio State in Michigan and Oregon in the Big Ten, now Indiana in the big, like you have to, you know, hey, we don't put up with this. Yeah, Seaton.
Seaton
But I, I think that he, I mean, he got a 10 year deal because that's kind of the norm, isn't it? Like you could even go back to Charlie Weiss where he got a 10 year deal and then people, they just get 10 year deals with a monstrous buyout at the end of it, knowing that no one's ever going to see the, the, the end of that contract, the life of that contract.
Dan Patrick
Is, I just don't understand 10 years, even for baseball players. Like we're getting a 15 year deal, man, there's a lot that can go wrong in 15 years. 10 years with a coach. Five years. That's the max. Five years. Five years. Then you can establish your identity, you can get your players, we can find out how good you are. Then after that, then we can discuss. But man, this is. That's expensive. Divorce. Yeah, Paulie.
Paulie Fusco
However, if you're Indiana University, you have to offer your Coach Signetti a 10 year contract now or someone else will in, in February.
Dan Patrick
But isn't five years enough?
Paulie Fusco
It's like a game that's being played by the agents of college football and everyone's in on the joke. They all work together to get these monster extensions for each other because they know they'll get it elsewhere.
Dan Patrick
But I'm going to give you five, but I'm going to pay you accordingly. Signetti at Indiana is like the sixth highest paid coach in the Big Ten.
Paulie Fusco
Right.
Dan Patrick
I'm going to pay you in accordance to what you're doing and what you've done with this program. I'm going to give you five years. I don't need to give you 10. Are you here for the bigger picture? Because we're here for this at five years and he might say, or his agent go, hey, why not 10? This guy got 10 and that guy got 10. No. College football is changing too rapidly and, and you're, you can be really good and then really bad. And I think that's where you have to be careful with falling in love with somebody. Yeah. Seaton.
Seaton
Yeah. I mean, you look. Jimbo Fisher, 10 year contract. James Franklin, obviously, Brian Kelly, 10 year deal. Kirby Smart, 10 year extension. They're all getting these 10 year contracts to maximize whatever money they could get.
Dan Patrick
All right, your phone calls, as we always do every Monday, best and worst of the weekend. Up next, next, Rick Neuheisel, who talked about Bill Belichick over the weekend not coming back for another year, in his opinion. And did Penn State do the right thing in firing James Franklin? We're back after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app, Paulie Fusco here with Tony Fusco. Yo, as everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning Paulie and Tony Fusco show. Yeah. Hey sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance bro tell you how to manage your money again? Welcome to Brown Ambition. This is the hard part when you pay down those credit cards. If you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem. A year from now when you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan, starting with your local credit union. Shopping around online looking for some online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive in these streets. I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt. And it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand. It's nice and dark in the sand. Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment for you, free money advice, listen to Brown ambition on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face when you think about emotion regulation. Like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it. If it's going to be beneficial to you because it's easy to just say like, like you go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walking the other way. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex problem solving, meditating, you know, takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Football coming up tonight you got the Bills and Falcons. That's a weird matchup. Just hearing those two teams. Bills minus four and a half at Atlanta and the Bears are getting five and a half at the Commanders. The Bills have the best super bowl odds right now, followed by the Chiefs, packers and the Lions. Didn't take long for the Chiefs all of a sudden to get back up into everybody's graces. And you saw that last night as they pick up the win against the Lions. A couple other things. You know, I'm still marveling over this non call. There should have been a holding call with Justin Herbert and he hits lad McConkey and it's a big gainer. They get the game winning field goal. Should have been a holding call, but they got the win. The Rams handled the Ravens and the buccaneers over the 49ers. So Broncos, Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Panthers, Seahawks, Raiders, packers all pick up the win. And I'm watching Drake May and I feel like I'm kind of watching Josh Allen's younger brother. Just a feel size wise makes plays athletic, fun to watch and New England's a good team and it starts with a really good coach. But they're a good team, they're dangerous team and you know, Drake May puts up good numbers there and they, they'll be on the cusp of making the playoffs. I really feel that because the Dolphins aren't good, the jets aren't good and maybe you can pick up a couple of wins there and sneak in, but you're watching like I watched the Steelers game and it was just okay. I mean they're, they're good. Like I would say it in a way where I go, they're, they're good. It's like saying to somebody, you know, you got a nice personality.
Paulie Fusco
Oh no.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I mean they're not hot, they're not hot. But you, you got a nice sense of humor, you got a, a nice personality. That's the feeling. But at this stage of the season, I think we understand who These teams are. We understand who the Chiefs and Lions are. I still think the Rams are really good. The Chargers are up and down. The Buccaneers are legitimate. I don't know about the Niners because all the injuries. And Fred Warner, one of my favorite players, he's done for the year. The Broncos, I mean, you got to win those games. It wasn't pretty, but you got to win those games. And they do. The Colts, I think, are a playoff team. Patriots, I think a playoff team. Steelers, Panthers have played pretty well. And there were a lot of people late on Saturday and Sunday who were saying, jump on the Panthers bandwagon. They were getting three. And they ran all over the Cowboys. Seahawks in Jacksonville, great win. The Raiders, they beat the Titans. Packers did what you need to do. It wasn't impressive. Like, they've gone from that opening night where they beat the Lions and you're like, yeah, to okay, they might have a nice personality, too. Nice smile. Speaking of the Cowboys losing against the Panthers, Shay and Irving joining us on the program. I say hello, Danny.
Tony Fusco
184 points in six weeks. 90 in the last three. This Eber flutes character, Danny, lost everywhere he's ever been. If he had any shame, he would turn himself into ice and self deport. Thank God we traded Micah to stop the run. Danny. Thank God because Ricky Dowdle ran for over 180.
Dan Patrick
That's what I didn't understand. Aren't they supposed to be a better run defense than they were without Micah.
Tony Fusco
Parsons There gave up 200 yards on the ground. Danny, you know Dak has to play. And he, He. He blinked at the end of the game, I'll give you that. But he has to play lights out. Perfect, perfect football to even have a shot because the Cowboys are giving up 34 no matter what. This is not a serious organization. Take, take, Tank.
Dan Patrick
Can they be a playoff team?
Tony Fusco
You know what really makes me mad is last week I was thinking to myself, well, you know, there's not a real juggernaut in the nfc. And the Cowboys win a couple, we might be able to sneak it. No, shake it off. It's poison. They can't do anything. Danny, this is unfixable.
Dan Patrick
You only got a couple months left. Don't worry about it.
Tony Fusco
Going to rehab.
Dan Patrick
No, you're not. Thank you, Shay. Yeah. See?
Seaton
Made Rico Dowdell look like Gail Sayers.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Adrian Peterson came out. I was like, dang, who's this dude?
Seaton
Man, this guy's balling.
Dan Patrick
I know. I'm watching. I'm going, Rico Dowdell.
Seaton
All right.
Dan Patrick
Let's go, kid. This is the guy who used to be a cowboy. Let's go. Yeah. Dang. Oh, did you see where I said if. If Jerry Jones accidentally didn't flip somebody off, then he'll appeal the fine? And what happened? He didn't appeal the fine. He was flipping somebody off. All right, a couple of phone calls in here. How about Chris in Syracuse? Hey, Chris. Good morning.
Caller
Hey, thanks, Dan. Hey, I got a best and worst in a comment. And yeah, my comment is just. Even on a bye week, still a lot of Bill Belichick talk. And whoever thought the words unorganized and undisciplined would be attached to a Bill Belichick run football program? And also a lot of talk, too, still, about how his somehow his relationship with his girlfriend is affecting his coaching genius. And I was thinking, Dan, maybe it's like in the Godfather, remember after the Virgil Sollozzo meeting and the Don pulled Santino aside and told him that his brain was going soft from all that comedy playing with that young girl. And my. My best Friday night, that 15 inning, five hour marathon in Seattle.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Caller
Postseason baseball without ghost runners is awesome. And my worst Denver Broncos defense apple to get a Ferris Bueller nine sacks against the W I N L E S S Jets.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Chris. Yeah. The jets had minus 10 yards net yards passing, fewest in an NFL game since the Chargers in 1998, which was Ryan Leaf's third career start. Start of the day, brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. I was watching the Raiders and Titans, and I know you're probably saying, why I don't. I love watching Max Crosby. I just. He never, ever stops. It's. It'd be called a high motor. He had two sacks. He has 10 tackles for losses already this season. So since 2000, there have been two players to have at least 10 tackles for losses in each of the first seven seasons. That's Jared Allen and Aaron Donald, one Hall of Famer and a future hall of Famer as well.
Snax
This is the start of the day.
Dan Patrick
Fritzi is reminding me Rick Newheim's a was next hour. I was exciting, excited to talk to him about all this coaching stuff here. So Rick Newheisel will join us next hour. He wants to build up the suspense. We can promote it for another hour. Okay. But James Franklin is still fired. He is still fired. Okay. That is true. Gus in la. Hi, Gus. What do you have for me?
Tony Fusco
Good morning, Mr. Patrick. Hope you and the boys had a great weekend. Oh, man, it was A weekend of best. All right. We start Friday night. That is what postseason baseball is all about. I don't care what anybody said, that it took too long. That game was awesome from beginning to end. Sad that you know that one team had to lose, but you got to lose. My bestest of the weekend. What's his name? Coach Sharon Moore. Am I saying it right or do I care to say it right? I. I don't care. He's going to be 100,000 people in the Coliseum. What do you think of that? He goes, they're only going to be there to watch us. Well, guess what, Coach Moore, you and every other Michigan fan that was there got to watch a 4th string walk on non scholarship running back run for 158 yards all over your team. How do you like me now? Loved. It was great to see USC be dominated against it. And then the final best of the weekend when Dallas loses, America wins. That was beautiful to see. It was the chef's kiss to the weekend. Just the best weekend all around. You boys have a great week. I'm going to watch tonight game one in fear. Hopefully my Dodgers can get it done.
Dan Patrick
All right. Thank you, Gus. King Miller rushed for 1:58 and a touchdown in USC's upset over Michigan. It didn't feel like an upset when I was watching it. I wasn't surprised that USC won the game, maybe how they won the game, but I don't think this is a very good Michigan team. Even though they spent a lot of money on their quarterback. It just doesn't feel Michigan like to see USC run the ball. And this is about that physicality that everybody talks about with the Big Ten. And you have the Pac 12 teams. Can they be physical enough? Now you saw Indiana be more physical than Oregon, but USC was more physical against Michigan. And there's going to be names that are going to coming that'll come up. And this is what happens when one coach gets fired. Now, your coach could be taking over for that coach and then that coach could take over for that coach. So Penn State's going to get somebody. It could be Kurt Signetti at Indiana, Matt Rule at Nebraska, Mike Elko at Texas A M. Once again, these are just names that people are throwing out and there are attachments to them. You know, Matt Rule played there, lived there in high school. Mike Elko grew up in Jersey. You know that'd be a big score at Penn State with what he's done at A and M. Signetti at Indiana. Joe Brady's the Bills offensive coordinator. He Was the passing coordinator at LSU with Joe Burrow. There'll be a lot of names, and there'll be a lot of coaches who do the following. They'll be up for a job, or they'll be interested in a job, or they'll hear from somebody, and then all of a sudden they get a new deal. It'd be like, lane Kiffin be like, yeah, Lane Kiffin will be on a list. And then all of a sudden, he'll be like, hey, Les Miles was up for the Arkansas job every couple of years because his friend was the athletic director, I believe it'd be like, yeah, Arkansas is looking at me. And then all of a sudden it's like, well, why don't you go to Kansas? You know? Yes, Paulie.
Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman
Yeah.
Paulie Fusco
A guy like Mike Elko, who you referred to, he came from Duke. He's in year two at a. M. He's six zero, so he might get a bump anyway. But you start saying, well, I'm having a conversation with Penn State. It's, we gotta tack two more years on the back end, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It's the dance of college football.
Dan Patrick
I know, I know. And I did wonder about this with James Franklin. If you're going to fire somebody of that magnitude at this point, I know you want to get a head start, but who are you getting? I don't think this is the case where you fire somebody and then you go, we know exactly who we're going to bring in. I mean, I. I hope it is that, you know, but it's too early. Yeah, we're going to get a head start on it. You would have a head start on any other program. They're not going to be a marquee program that's going to fire its coach. I can't imagine that. Like, is Michigan going to move on from Sharon Moore? But maybe another year like this, and. And. And they might. But I'm guessing that you'll still be able to pick who you want at Penn State. And then does Franklin sit out, or is he going to take another job? And then if he takes another job, you know, once again, it's a domino effect. It's not just one coach got fired, it's somebody's going to get that job, and then somebody has to replace them as well. Joe in Jersey. Hi, Joe. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hi, Dan. Thanks for taking my call. I would say the best of the weekend probably be the Steelers. I mean, they're just winning. That's. That's how they Always do things. But their offense, that's the best it's looked since Big Ben was there.
Dan Patrick
Okay?
Caller
And for the worst, Dolphins, I mean, you had that game one year, you blew it. That's a big coaching difference there. Har harbor, they're always buttoned up. And with the Dolphins, they're, they don't have any discipline. That's, that's difference between winning a game and losing a game is coaching.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I always look at the last two minutes when you win a game. Your quarterback and your coach and clock management being able to do the right thing. You know what drives me crazy? When you get out there and you got three minutes to go, and you got to go 50 yards, kick a field goal in the first play, there's a false start. I, I, it's unimaginable that you get to the line of scrimmage. All I gotta, I gotta remember, make sure that I don't jump. That's it. And then do my assignment. That's it. And then you'll see that, and you'll go, oh, my goodness. Yes, Marvin.
Snax
Nothing irritates a coach more because you know the count, you know it's on two.
Dan Patrick
Why would you jump? Like, they don't know if they jump. Okay, but you, the count and the Lions, when Jared Goff scores a touchdown last night. Once you score a touchdown and there's no flag on the play, and you're lining up to, you know, an extra point, and then you throw a flag. No, no, no, no, no, no. With some archaic rule that you guys screwed up. I'm sorry. You guys pay the price for this. You can't go once, once you've scored and you're lining up for the next play. That's in the books. That's the way it should be. And the Lions should have gotten that touchdown. I know. There is a rule. They didn't know. It took him four minutes to. Hey, wait a minute. Are they allowed to do that? I don't know. Hey, Tommy, come here. Hey, Skippy, come here. And then they throw, throw a flag. And I went, no, no. Yeah, Paul.
Paulie Fusco
It's almost like the lion should have had the right to kick the extra point and move on. You know, like there's a certain time period where you got to make the call whether it was an illegal play. You can't have someone look it up in the booth. Well, I, I looked up the rule. It's an obscure rule that references the T formation of like the 30s and 40s and Jared Goff violated by going under center pulling out and going in motion, but he really didn't go under center, so they didn't really adjudicate it rightly.
Dan Patrick
And then there was this stupid moment after the Chiefs Lions game, Brian Branch and hit juju Smith Schuster. Okay, first of all, you're not hurting anybody by hitting him in the helmet. And you had all game to go after him. You had three hours to hit him. So you're going to be gone for a game. And it's just stupid. It, it's, you know, immature that you're doing something like that. And if JuJu Smith Schuster did block you from behind, Smith Schuster went up to shake his hand. So I don't know if he went, you know, I did something real egregious here. It was, hey. And he puts his hand out. Now all of a sudden you have this skirmish at the end of the game. Yeah, Seaton.
Seaton
I wasn't exactly surprised to find out that somebody punched JuJu Smith Schuster in.
Dan Patrick
The face after the game.
Seaton
I mean, the dude, he seems to talk a lot. And he did block him in the back. Stepped over him, looked at him, talked to him. I'm not surprised at all that juju Smith Schuster was that guy.
Dan Patrick
But you're on the field with him. He's on, on offense, you're on defense. You can hit him, hit him in the game, after the game, everybody sees this and, and he's going to be gone for a game. Look, there are guys who taunt. They're really good at taunting you, and you can't, you can't fall for that.
Seaton
And he Even post game, JuJu Smith Schuster is like, I'm sure he'll learn from the mistake. Oh, my God. Like, I admit, God, I want to punch him in the face again.
Dan Patrick
Oh, you want to punch him.
Seaton
Nobody, like, if I'm that guy, you know, I'm like, dang, dude. You know? Yeah. Did he reach his hand out to shake it? Yeah. Did he maybe say, hey, how's your back feeling? Shut up, shut up, dude.
Dan Patrick
But when, when football players fight, when they hit each other in the helmet, I'm like, that's stupid.
Seaton
I don't, I don't think it has anything to do with actually trying to hurt somebody. It's just about smacking somebody in the face. Like, sometimes if you're in a street fight and you punch somebody, you're trying to knock them out, but if you're trying to disrespect them, you smack them in the face. That's what that is.
Dan Patrick
See, I would get right in his face. And I would just whisper to him and I would say, this ain't over. You want to play games? You continue to play games. I will never forget this. And I'm coming after you. Always keep your head on a swivel. Hey, look at me. I'm coming at you, you little punk ass.
Paulie Fusco
Do you have enough time to get all that in?
Dan Patrick
Yes, I think I do a lot of work.
Seaton
Stadium, post games.
Dan Patrick
I might. I might have to. Hey, hold on. Hey, stay here. I'm not done yet. Hey.
Seaton
Hey, how does my breath smell? That's right.
Dan Patrick
Let's. Let's take a break.

Hey sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance bro tell you how to manage your money again? Welcome to Brown Ambition. This is the hard part. When you pay down those credit cards, if you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem A year from now when you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan. Starting with your local credit union. Shopping around online looking online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive in these streets. I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt. And it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like, stick your head in the sand. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face when you think about emotion regulation. What a throw by Baker Mayfield.
Dan Patrick
That's courtesy of 98 Rock Buccaneers Radio Network. Since the start of last season, Baker Mayfield has just over 6,000 passing yards, 53 passing touchdowns. Both, both are most in the NFL over that span. They were chanting MVP and the wide receiver thought that they were talking about him. He had an unbelievable grab and celebration. Dan Patrick
Yes or no?
Seaton
Right now 64% of the audience say no. Excuse me. Said yes, he did have a bad weekend. Yeah, I don't know if I dis if I agree with that.
Dan Patrick
You think that he had a good weekend?
Seaton
Well, I don't. I don't know if he had a good weekend, but it definitely wasn't bad. All right, well, it didn't work out at Penn State. I'm going to go cash this big ass check and then go wait in line for the next one that someone's going to throw at me. Yeah, that's not the worst thing.
Dan Patrick
Paul.
Paulie Fusco
I see what Seaton is saying. He both got paid, but his future at Penn State was going this direction no matter what. Clearly. Might as well pull the band aid. He has a chance to get out of this reputation as not being a big game coach. Let's say he goes to Arkansas. Or blank. Or blank. He can make 10 more good years and that this will be an afterthought.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but that doesn't mean he's going to win big games. No, but maybe he's going to Arkansas. You had a better chance to win big games at Penn State than you did Arkansas.
Paulie Fusco
Yes, I just think that it was going to happen anyway. Let's pull the band.
Dan Patrick
He just might be a good coach. Not a great coach, but a good coach. And he did a great job at Penn State to have them relevant. But I never, never gonna give somebody a ten year deal. Never. David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind today?
Tony Fusco
Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. I got two best of the weekend. First we brought our baby home from the nicu, so that's very exciting. Your show got us through it. Even some of Fritzi's rhyme time. Second best of the weekend. My Steelers won, Browns lose, Bengals lose, Ravens lose. It's a clean sweep for Steelers fans. And I don't, unlike Shay, I don't need heaters and diet code to get me through my Sunday. Thank you.
Dan Patrick
All right, David. Yeah, Yeah, I watched some of the Steelers game. You know, Aaron Rod, I love when Rogers rolls, right? And he always does that little kind of throw off at his back foot, foot, you know, or heels. And he just kind of somehow flicks it in there. It was nice. Everything's going well, you know, not great. But then that's okay. All you got to do is be good in the AFC North. Just be good. Or don't be average. Be just a little bit above and you're going to be fine. Ravens are a mess though. I can't pin all this on Lamar Jackson. Yes, Marvin.
Snax
But then the Steelers need to win a playoff game.
Dan Patrick
That is true.
Snax
Because all of it is for not if they don't.
Dan Patrick

Dan Patrick

Seaton
Let's see what's in season right now. Is this more of a pumpkin, more of an apple situation.
Paulie Fusco
Blueberries out.
Seaton
Blueberry, right. That's more of a summer pie if I'm not mistaken. Maybe we'll go pumpkin.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I hate to do that to a pumpkin pie like you pick. I mean, you had the bet with Matt. So you want pumpkin? Yeah, sure. Let's go.
Seaton
Pumpkin pie.
Dan Patrick
All right. Matt.
Seaton
Matt. My pumpkin.
Dan Patrick
Matt. Matt, that's your little pumpkin. All right. So pumpkin pie. Matt and Seaton will smash you in the face.
