The back room guys will come up with a poll question. Got a play of the day and you got basketball coming up tonight. Thunder at the Pacers game six. OKC started out as a four and a half point road favorite. Now up to six according to DraftKings. And the big question is Tyrese Halliburton, can he play? Does he play? How much does he play? Is there any thought to him not playing and maybe trying to get to a game seven in OKC where he might be a little healthier? All questions that should be asked will be asked and hopefully answered. Here is the question to Tyrese Halliburton on his approach to Game 6.
Dan Patrick
How smart do you have to be.
Seaton O'Connor
I guess in this situation or are.
Dan Patrick
You not even thinking in those terms at this point? Well, I think it depends on who you ask. I mean you're asking me so I think I have to be as smart as I as I want to be. You have to understand the risks, ask the right questions. But I'm a competitor. I want to play. I'm going to do everything in my power to play and that's just what it is.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah, so I don't know exactly what they're going to get out of him. I know the over under is 13 and a half points. It's been around 17 and a half. He is been a slow starter. If I'm OKC and Tyrese Halliburton's out there. I'm probably excited about that matchup because then I say to Lou Dort the first five times down the floor, put him in a pick and roll. Let's go at him. Let's see what he has and see how long he can stay out there. And that might be one of those. I'm going to keep you out there as long as I think you're a positive for us. If not, then, you know, T.J. mcConnell is going to play a majority of the minutes here. If I'm okay, seeing I'd rather have Halliburton out there right now. If I know that he's not 75%, I'm going to go at him constantly. Now. He can be out there. You might have two guards with, you know, T.J. mcConnell handling the ball. You still have the threat of Halliburton there, but you do have players who can score 20 points, and you're playing at home. OKC's defense not as good on the road Pacers. That pace is a little quicker. You can. You can win this game. I'd say steal this game, but you can win this game. The question is the risk and the reward. With Tyrese Halliburton, you roll the dice, you put him out there. You say go as long as you can go, but you want to get. The goal is to get to game seven. If you're telling me that if we get to game seven and I rest him for the next couple of days and he can be closer to 80, 90%, you might roll the dice. You might run that risk. And that goes back to the previous game, where I wouldn't have put him out there for the second half. Rick Carlisle said all the right things. Hey, he did some positives there. He was still a detriment to the team. He wanted to be out there. We all respect that. But this is a bottom line we gotta win. You don't get consolation prizes. You gotta win. How do I help my team the best? And is that not playing or not playing him, the number of minutes that he wants to play? Because that's the kind of thing that you're out there and then you sit down and now you gotta get that injury cranked up again. That'll be a difficult thing for Tyrese Halliburton. How long can he play? How long are you going to sit him for? And can you have a couple of people who step up in this situation? All right, Seaton, what's the poll question? Then we'll dive into the lakers sale of $10 billion. Why don't we start right there? All right. The Bus family selling the Lakers is smart or nuts.
Dan Patrick
Classic game of smarter nuts.
Seaton O'Connor
Maybe smarter, smarter, nuts. It is, it is $10 billion. It is, but it's still. There's a lot of billionaires. We talk about this all the time. A lot of billionaires.
Dan Patrick
Too many.
Seaton O'Connor
But they do like owning teams because then they become far more important. People actually care what you have to say. You're a billionaire. Oh, you're a billionaire and you own Manchester United. You're a billionaire and you own the Dallas Cowboys. Now all of a sudden, people are listening to what you have to say. That's what was surprising with this, that Jeanie Buss will continue her role as the team governor. But Mark Walter is coming in and bringing his Dodger playbook and maybe some changes there. But what's different with basketball as opposed to baseball is in baseball, he could say, I want. Or we want that player, we're going to resign that player. We're going to give him whatever. In basketball, you're the, the guardrails are a little tighter there. You just can't go out and say, hey, I want Giannis. You know, they're, you have to go through the process of, well, we got a trade, you got the second apron. You got all these different things that are going on to try to prevent owners from buying a championship here. And while he has the money, the resources there, it'll be different in what he does. Now, he could give the Lakers the same edge that Golden State had. They spent money, they spent their money buying a dynasty, building a dynasty. But you're, you're investing heavily maybe in scouting and analytics. You're still going to have stars. The Lakers always have stars. But this is an NBA era defined by luxury taxes and second aprons. And a deep pocketed owner doesn't have the same impact. But $10 billion for the Lakers, while I was surprised at the number, I was probably more surprised that they were sold. And, you know, with what Mark has done with the Dodgers, which has been an unbelievable blueprint of we have the money, we'll spend, we'll spend wisely, we get the right people, we get our kind of player, we got our kind of manager, they're going to refurbish Dodger Stadium. So they're doing all the right things to build an infrastructure. And I think that's the important part of this, keeping an infrastructure that resonates with the fans. Because if I'm a fan, I just want to know what's this mean? While we get excited, we go, wow, ownership, new ownership, $10 billion. What's it mean? If you're a fan and we'll get answers to this coming up next hour of what does it mean for you? What's it mean for your team moving forward? And I think most people thought, okay, what are the Knicks worth? What are the Yankees worth? What are the Cowboys worth? And keep this in mind. Who would have thought that in a calendar year the Celtics and the Lakers would both be sold? Remarkable. And the Celtics for a paltry $6.1 billion, go back to the commanders when they were sold. And I remember getting a tip on it and they said, you know, it's going to be close to $5 million billion dollars. And I go, really? Yeah. Okay, so there's a recent trend going on and maybe it's getting the mom and pop shops out of the business. And now you have corporations who are taking over teams and you have corporations who own a variety of teams in a variety of sports. And that's what's changed a lot. But $10 billion for the Lakers, that's a, that's a global brand. How many global brands do we have? Like, true global brand. Cowboys, Yankees, Notre Dame football. Yeah. See, that's why it's such a shocking move, because it's like Paris selling the Eiffel Tower. Like, well, why, what the hell are you doing that for? Your Disney selling off Mickey Mouse? Why the hell did you do that? What do you hold on to that? You know, it just seems like something you, I mean, that how do you sell the moon? You know, but it's 10 billion. Okay, what's it going to be worth in 10 years? So you, that's what I don't understand. If you're getting out, why are you getting out? If you're buying it at 10 billion, what do you expect it to be in five years from now, 10 years from now? You're already locked into that TV deal. You already know what your money is going to be. The game is changing as far as how many stars you can afford, the luxury tax, the second April, you know, all of these different things. The NBA is changing right in front of us here. And you're seeing two small market teams that made it to the NBA Finals. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Blowing it, just I guess it's obviously shocking. But in America, you aspire to own the Lakers like Mark Walter. This is it. He owns the Dodgers and the Lakers. He's made it at, I think he's 67 years old. But Dr. Jerry Buss passed away in 2013, in less than a generation. His family is moving on from the team. I know it's a long process, but I don't get it. I need it explained to me. You aspire to own the Lakers, and a Lakers may be above all others. I would maybe include the Yankees in that, owning the Lakers. Dr. Jerry Buss is a household name in Los Angeles, in California, in the sports world. And he bought them for 67 million.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And under his stewardship, they had some of the greatest days in sports history.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I can't imagine not wanting to keep that in the family.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah. So what's the poll question, Seaton? Well, we're going to put up there, are they smarter nuts, just smart or nuts?
Dan Patrick
Not smarter nuts.
Seaton O'Connor
There might be something to that, too. All right. You know, yesterday we had the poll question, should Tyrese Halliburton play in game six? Which was, I think, sort of roundly criticized as a very dumb question, which seems a lot smarter today. 75% of people said, absolutely, he should play today. I think we're going to put that back up and see how that changes today. We don't know. He probably doesn't know, but he did give you that, hey, I'm going to do everything in my power to play. Well, that doesn't give me confidence. I'm going to do everything I can to play. Doesn't sound like. And it might just be, go out there and play as long as you can. But when you rest, when you have these kind of injuries, they're going to work on that calf muscle right up until game time. Well, you can't work on it while the game is going on, although he'll be moving and you're going to have him sit on the bench at some point. I mean, it's going to be difficult for him to be up and down, back in the lineup. And okc, I would be running everything right towards Tyrese Halliburton to start. I want to see what you have. Yes, Todd.
Dan Patrick
And to what extent can you leave it to the player? At some point, Rick Carlisle as the coach has to jump in and go, I know he wants to be a hero. And it's the NBA Finals. Who knows if you're ever going to get back there again? But if at some point it's decided that he's becoming more of a detriment as the game plays out tonight, he's got to say, you know, thanks, you did the best you could.
Seaton O'Connor
Have a seat. Yeah, it's a tough, you know, Let, let's say they don't play him tonight and they lose, then Rick Carlisle is going to face the Slings and Arrows here. But if you're trying to get to a game seven, what is the best avenue to get to a game 7? Is it to rest Halliburton and hope we can win a game at home? And maybe it is, but you still have to get to that Game seven. But if you tell me Halliburton will be exponentially healthier when you get to Game 7 Sunday night, then I really have to be. I have to be seriously considering that because right now Vegas is saying, you know, 13 and a half points, he's going to be there, but he's not going to be taken over the game. Now he might have one of those incredible performances once in a lifetime, which he's had a few of those already where maybe there's some magic there. But okc, they're healthy, they're deep, and they're coming at that. I'd be going right at him every single time that first quarter, every single time. I'm going to make him guard. I'm going to put pressure on him as much as I can. Daniel in Indiana leads us off. Hi, Daniel. Dan, how are you? Good, sir. How's your confidence level?
Dan Patrick
It's a 10 Pacers and 7.
Seaton O'Connor
All right.
Dan Patrick
Question. So what would you say is easier to win the Game five Pacers just lost or game seven on the road with a youth Thunder team with inexperience?
Seaton O'Connor
Well, I want to get to a Game seven. I want to see how they feel in a Game seven. It'll be on their home court. India won't come in once again as an underdog. But if you win game six, depending on how you win game six, let's say you win by double digits. Let's say you win on a last second shot. Now you bring momentum out there to OKC. Game 7, all bets are off, but you got to get to a game seven. That's. That's the tricky part, the hard part.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Paul, when I hear that Halliburton cut, that sounds like a guy who's not playing. He never said the word, I'm playing tonight. He said, I'll do everything in my power. I want to play. And this is one of those situations where Rick Carlisle may have to say, like, I'm going to take the bullet here. I'm going to. I'm going to take it out of the player's hands and roll the dice. Because you send out a lineup tonight. That surprises OKC and he's not in it. How are they prepared for that now? There's a lot of downside, but there's probably more upside.
Seaton O'Connor
I think they'll be fine in preparing for it because there's such a great defensive team. But yes, it does. It would change my game plan if I'm attacking Indiana, but the Thunder favored by 6 SGA. The over unders 33 and a half. I think it's been that every single game, maybe 34 and a half. And Tyrese Halliburton the over under is 13 and a half points. Will Smith Pinch hit Walk off Home run the Dodgers beat the Padres for their fifth consecutive win. So that's 27 comeback wins for the Dodgers this season. That's five more than any other team. Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Dodger manager Dave Roberts was asked about the Dodger owner Mark Walder buying the Lakers.
Dan Patrick
I think it's a very exciting day for, for the Lakers, for the city of Los Angeles. And I think that speaking from, you know, a Dodger employee, he's very competitive and he's going to do everything he can to produce a championship caliber team every single year. And, you know, make sure the city feels proud about the Lakers and the legacy that they've already built, you know, with the Buss family.
Seaton O'Connor
Ramona Shelburne of Mothership said the Genie Buss will continue in her role for the foreseeable future. Now, we were told that with Mark Cuban, when he sold, and I think he retained like, 27% of the MAVs, that he would still be involved in decision making. And then what happens? They trade Luca. And Mark apparently wasn't consulted on that. But Ramona, with her reporting, has Genie Buss staying and maintaining her role as Genie Bus with the Lakers, which you want that continuity. And if you're taking over a team, you know, you don't want to go in there and make wholesale changes like you want to come in. And I'm sure they've done their due diligence of what is the day to day, who's making decisions. How do you feel about J.J. redick, Rob Pelinka, you know, looking at everything here? Because when you're buying a team, it's not just, hey, I get to own that team. You're buying employees, you're buying a building, you're there. There's so much more involved in this. Buying a network, I mean, there. There's a lot involved in it. And that's where we sometimes look at it and say, that person or those people bought that team. They bought more than just that. But Jeannie Buss staying in her role, I think is very smart with the new ownership there. All right, couple of phone calls in here. Anthony in Minnesota. Hi, Anthony. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. How's it going? Good.
Dan Patrick
I just kind of want to touch on you.
Seaton O'Connor
So I do a lot of trading in the stock market, and you see a lot of people, they want to buy low, sell high. And, you know, a lot of these franchises are hot right now. Celtics just win the title last year. Lakers, obviously being the Lakers, get a lot of headlines out of that.
Dan Patrick
So owners are thinking, hey, I kind of.
Seaton O'Connor
I'm getting old, I want to retire. I'm dealing with a lot of these player holdouts. I can reinvest this into a better opportunity. So I might sell. You know, Dave Portnoy sold Barstool, bought it back for a dollar. Warren Buffett, obviously, just stepping down, and you have him staying on the board. So you have that. And also, I have a question for you, too. Okay, so we have a King of.
Dan Patrick
The Hill revival coming up.
Seaton O'Connor
If it was you, Paulie Seton and Todd, who would you guys be? I would have you, Dan as Hank, Dale, Paulie Seton as Boomhauer, and then Todd, of course, Bill. All right. I haven't seen an episode of King of the Hill. Yeah, haven't seen it.
Dan Patrick
You'll like it. It's kind of a sure thing.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah, I'm more of a Bob's Burger guy. Yes.
Dan Patrick
I appreciate what that caller said too about billionaires retiring, but they don't, there's a reason billionaires don't retire because it's fun to make money.
Seaton O'Connor
Like Warren Buffett did just retire. That's true.
Dan Patrick
He's 94.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah, I know. You can't put Dave Portnoy with Warren Buffett. Nor can you put Jeanie Buss, who's I think in her 60s. Yes. You know, like Jeannie's still really young to be able to do.
Dan Patrick
There's, there's a reason billionaires don't retire.
Seaton O'Connor
It's because it's great to just keep.
Dan Patrick
Making money like that.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah. When somebody says, oh, he made enough money. I've never met somebody who said that. That's it. I don't want to make another dollar here, step back from my duties a bit.
Dan Patrick
I'm not retiring.
Seaton O'Connor
I'm just going to step back from my day to day responsibilities here. But if you're a billionaire, it feels like they all aspire to own a sports team because you want to be relevant, that you want people to care. You walk into a building and that's, that's our owner, that's my building. This is our team. There's a lot of billionaires, but there's a finite amount of billionaires who own sports teams and they love, love to be treated like royalty. When they go out, people want to talk to them. Hey, what do you think about if you're a billionaire and you don't own a sports team, the only reason why people come up to you is probably say, can I have some money? You own a team, they want to ask you about the team. That's why you find these billionaires, they're waiting in line. But the fact that you're selling now the Celtics sold. Now Lakers sold. Now I understand the Washington Commanders with Daniel Snyder because that's either hey, sell or we're going to make you sell and we're going to embarrass you even more so than you've embarrassed yourself. But with the Lakers and the Celtics in the same calendar calendar year, that's pretty amazing. Jerry in LA. Hi, Jerry. What's on your mind today?
Dan Patrick
Hey, Dan.
Seaton O'Connor
511, 175 after being named after Jerry West, I just wanted to put an input on the, the Lakers sailing.
Dan Patrick
So this might be a positive thing. There's been some questionable decisions by Genie in the past and I think this.
Seaton O'Connor
Is going to be a better thing for the future. Well, she's still staying in her position. So if you're questioning her, her role, she's still staying in that role. I just want to see how this, you know, what is different if I'm a Laker fan, what is different? What changes? Because this isn't the Dodgers. And maybe nothing changes with the Lakers. I mean, you were the third seed. You got star power for another decade with Luca and they're not afraid of trying to make a move here. You're always going to be relevant. Even when you're not good, you're still relevant. When you had down years, even Kobe at the end of his career, you're still relevant because you had star power. And the Lakers have led the league in star power. Go back to when you had Elgin and Jerry. Then all of a sudden they make the trade, they get Kareem and then you draft Magic and Shaq and Kobe and LeBron. Now you get Luke. I mean it. They've always had star power and will always have star power because players will want to continue to play in Los Angeles.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, pulling, I think you said this early in the morning meeting. The Lakers always are bigger than any star on the Lakers. Even Shaquille o' Neal, who is global. But you know, the Golden State warriors are Steph Curry. They're known they had a 10 year run because mostly Steph Curry and you know, I don't know if that branding stays forever.
Seaton O'Connor
That's what I didn't understand. And once again, I'm not a math major and I do have people on to make me smarter with the situation like this. But when I hear that Golden State a couple of weeks ago might be the most valuable NBA team, I go, what is now a lot of this has to do with what else. You own the building and all of those things. I'm just talking about the basketball team itself. When Steph Curry goes, who cares about the Golden State warriors on a national or global basis? If I mean, the Lakers are always going to be relevant. Whether they're good or not, they're going to be talked about. That's what I'm trying to figure out here with Golden State, it seems like it's attached to Steph Curry, not that branding. Because when Steve Kerr and Steph Curry leave, what are you going to have now maybe you find, you know, some star power there, but really it seems to hinge on one player. Whereas the Lakers, it's about the brand Cowboys, it's about the brand Yankees, it's about the brand Notre Dame, it's about the brand, Duke, about the brand. You know, there's only a few of those. But that's what I don't understand. With the evaluations here, if I'm just looking at the basketball team and with Golden State, when Steph goes at the lot of eyeballs, go. But with the Lakers, you're always going to have that. The Cowboys always have that. The Yankees always will have that. That's a powerful brand that you have. It's not just we're branded because we were winning the last 10 years. Okay. Cowboys, they won, you know, 30 years ago. Even prior to that. The Yankees, of course, for a hundred years have been winning Notre Dame, football winning Duke, winning Golden State. You got an unbelievable 10 year window here. I don't know how that holds up the Celtics. That is a global brand. Doesn't matter who's playing. The Celtics win. There's something to be said for that. Let's see. John in Georgia. Hi, John. What's on your mind today?
Dan Patrick
Good morning, gentlemen.
Seaton O'Connor
With that being said, Dan, if you are, and I want to go around the horn here, if you all, boom. You're all millionaires, would you want to own the Yankees, the Lakers, the.
Dan Patrick
The.
Seaton O'Connor
We'll just call the Florida Panthers and Yankees.
Dan Patrick
Whom I miss?
Seaton O'Connor
Oh, and the Dow or the Dallas Cowboys.
Dan Patrick
We're on the horn.
Seaton O'Connor
Who would you pick to.
Dan Patrick
To own?
Seaton O'Connor
Well, first of all, John, we have to be billionaires, not millionaires. So yeah, we'll start there. Yeah, I got to be a billionaire. All right. He gave us four choices so that I guess the best teams or the ch. Whatever it might be Florida just winning the Stanley Cup. Todd, you can own Yankees, you can own Cowboys, you can own Lakers, you can own the Florida Panthers.
Dan Patrick
Being that NFL is so king, I'm going to go Dallas Cowboys. And that's pretty much my main reason.
Seaton O'Connor
For making that pick. Se. I would do the Lakers. I love California, I love Los Angeles.
Dan Patrick
And that is, I mean, just a cultural epicenter for the. For the world.
Seaton O'Connor
Heck yeah, Marvin. The Lakers. The only place you'll find Leo DiCaprio is at a Lakers game.
Dan Patrick
The stars go see the Lakers.
Seaton O'Connor
Okay. I don't know if I'd buy the Lakers just so Leo can come watch the Lakers. But I said the stars afterwards. Okay? Yep. Okay. You always have star power, no matter what. Okay. All right. Yeah, Paul.
Dan Patrick
If it was a different baseball team, I'd go baseball just because of the amount of games. I couldn't pass on owning the Lakers, which is. Brings Us back to today. I couldn't pass on that.
Seaton O'Connor
I would say the Cowboys because they haven't been good, but they're still so powerful. That branding is so powerful, and I don't know if that ever wears off. It's been 30 years. That's a long, long drought. But the Cowboys still resonate. Yeah, Paulie.
Dan Patrick
So going back to that. Jerry Jones is not selling the Cowboys. It doesn't appear to be selling the Cowboys, but as a businessman, shouldn't he, based off what we've seen in the.
Seaton O'Connor
Past five years, his ego won't allow.
Dan Patrick
Exactly.
Seaton O'Connor
No, no.
Dan Patrick
His. His image is the Cowboys, but what.
Seaton O'Connor
Is he getting that he doesn't already have?
Dan Patrick
Right.
Seaton O'Connor
If I give him $12 billion for the Cowboys, what happens?
Dan Patrick
That's why I don't understand what Mark Cuban did to. Because he. I know he has other things and he's been on shows and he's very, very famous, but his identity as a Mavs owner.
Seaton O'Connor
There's a bigger play going on with the Mavs. You know, they're trying to get gambling there. And, you know, and maybe Mark just thought, you know what? I've won my championship. Great. Now I move on. You know, he's moving on from Shark Tank. I, you know, maybe, I mean, you don't know what the motivation is for somebody, but money probably is not the motivation because I don't know if there's anything that Jerry Jones can get by selling that team that he doesn't already have. But he does lose something. And that is being relevant. Yes, Eden, The Lakers have been.
Dan Patrick
I mean, not even relevant, but, I mean, maybe even dominant for 70 years.
Seaton O'Connor
You go back to Minneapolis. Yeah, right. And if you just look at, I.
Dan Patrick
Mean, some of the players that you had, George Mikin, and then you go through to the 60s and you have Elgin Baylor and Jerry West.
Seaton O'Connor
Right. I mean, you could go decade by decade.
Dan Patrick
And they were always. I mean, it's insulting to just say relevant. That.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah, but that's a long time. But the Cowboys haven't done anything in 30 years. And their brand has grown, which is. How does that happen? They will. They lead sport. Anything that can happen in the. You know, Brian Schottenheimer is going to talk about his dad. Let's have that story on SportsCenter. Dak talks about his legacy. SportsCenter is going to lead with that constant, constant. The Cowboys now might not be great tv, but still that branding for a team that hasn't won a franchise hasn't won in over 30 years. The Lakers have been Successful. The Yankees have been successful. The Celtics have been successful. Then Notre Dame has played national title game. Duke has won championships. Who has a brand that stays strong, if not stronger? And they've never. They haven't won in an. In a generation. They haven't won. Yeah, pulling.
Dan Patrick
I think the comp for the Cowboys in the NBA is the Knicks. How many NBA Finals have they been to? But they sell out for decades.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And if they're even close to relevant.
Seaton O'Connor
But they're not a global brand. They are. That's New York. They're not beloved outside of New York. Nobody goes, man, I'm a. Unless you're a transplant, you're living in Florida. But Cowboy fans are all over. Nick fans. No, I mean powerful in Manhattan. Well, in the five boroughs. But that, that's not a national. I mean, it's known, but it's not a powerful brand in LA or, you know, in Portland or in Texas or any, you know, it's just not. But the Cowboys. Cowboys are all over. They're omnipresent. Yes, they are. The Cowboys are probably the lone global NFL brand. Yeah. The NFL, really, as shocking as it is, is not a big sport worldwide.
Dan Patrick
It's really not. But the Cowboys are certainly the one standout that are known across the world.
Seaton O'Connor
I think a lot of that has.
Dan Patrick
To do, though, with their popularity and remaining so relevant, has to do just.
Seaton O'Connor
With Jerry Jones and not just because he is such a character, but because, you know, he's one of, I don't.
Dan Patrick
Know, three people that actually runs the entire league. Right.
Seaton O'Connor
He has. His business interests with the NFL aren't just with the Cowboys. He owns all the concessions. He owns the hospitality that everybody uses. He owns all of that stuff.
Dan Patrick
I think that his control and sort of really ownership over the whole league.
Seaton O'Connor
To some extent is also what helps propel the. And keep the Cowboys relevant. Well, he's always in front of a microphone, too. And he's always doing something that may be counterproductive, maybe ego driven. But of all the owners, nobody is out there more than he is. So when a fan base says, boy, I wish ownership, like I wanted the Knicks ownership to get in front of a microphone and tell me why you fired Tom Thibodeau or what is your plans or what are your plans coming up here? By the way, they still don't have a head coach there. Mike Brown, who just got. He got fired by Sacramento, apparently, is the leading candidate. Mike. I like Mike Brown. Mike, but Mike O. Brown. Yeah. Yeah, we're going to. We're Going to rebrand him. We're hiring Michael Brown. Is he related to Mike Brown? All right, Mike. Yeah. That doesn't sound like you had a really good game plan here. That's all. That. That maybe. Maybe you bring him in. He does well, but that doesn't sound like, hey, we got the guy. Anybody could have had the guy that. If that's the guy you're going to hire because you went after all these other guys. So if you. If Mike Brown's your guy, then you don't go after Billy Donovan or Jason Kidd. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Paulie, remember before the playoffs, you said the Knicks will probably not hire a head coach during the finals, so they don't hijack the story.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
How do you think Commissioner Silver is dealing with the Lakers news today?
Seaton O'Connor
First thing I thought of is the. The. The previous commissioner hated if you did anything about your team, any announcement during the NBA Finals. Do not. I remember him saying, do not hijack the NBA Finals. And I'm like, okay, yeah. All right. Nobody. I don't want anybody hiring a coach. And I remember Brian Hill got fired or hired by Orlando. I remember. And it was a Sunday night, and I think the season had ended. And I remember not getting scolded. Actually, I got a little bit scolded because we went with the story because you didn't want to hijack the NBA Finals. And I think the finals had just ended. But David Aldridge had the scoop, and I was like, oh, boy, I'm gonna hear about this. Patrick, what are you doing? I told you, don't hijack. I. He had an exclusive. All right, let me take a break. Seaton O'Connor
Right now 71% of the audience say.
Dan Patrick
That it is smart.
Seaton O'Connor
And will Tyrese Halliburton play in game six? 74% have him. Yes, he will play. Should he play in game six? I think he'll try to play. But should he play? Because see that? I don't know what the results of the MRI have been that yesterday we had up there. Should Tyrese Halliburton playing game six? And 76% of the audience said yes. Yeah. Okay. 877 3DP show. Let's see. Dane in New York. Hi, Dane. What's on your mind today?
Dan Patrick
Hey, it's an honor to be on the show. 58185 first time, long time. I think there's something psychological about the Dallas Cowboys of why they're so loved. And call me crazy, but I think that amongst all the teams for the decades that have been, they've had the best uniforms from top to bottom consistently. And I think there's something about the blue and silver that actually attracts to the female mindset. And I think if they want to wear it and can't wait to put on that stuff like it gets whole families in for decades.
Seaton O'Connor
Okay. I think it's more than that because if it just came down to wearing silver or blue, I'd be wearing it every single day. When I was growing up. If it appeal, you know, appealed to the, to the ladies. You know, you had the building, the hole in the roof. God could watch the Cowboys, Tom Landry, the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. And you had winning football back then. You had America's hero and Roger Staubach. They were doomsday defense. You know, there was so much to like about the Cowboys they were different, but they haven't done anything in 30 years. That's the remarkable part. They haven't done anything. They're still extremely relevant, maybe more relevant than any other football team that, you know, networks shows are always looking for a way to get the Cowboys into their rundown, into their daily show. Yes, Marvin, I think the Cowboys are.
Dan Patrick
Very much like the Steelers in the fact that they won Super Bowls and they had great runs in two different generations.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah. You know that, that you're, you'll have a generation who's then raising a generation off of their team and then your generation, you, maybe you didn't win, but if you're a Cowboy fan from the 70s and then your son becomes a Cowboy fan, then his son becomes a Cowboy fan or daughter becomes a Cowboy fan.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Paul, I do think his point about the uniforms is consistent with all the best SP teams in America, the most successful, they change their uniforms. The least. Pittsburgh they do throwbacks, they don't change. The Lakers never change. They may be a tweak here or there. The Cowboys, almost no changes. Yankees, Yankees, the Dodgers, God bless them, never change.
Seaton O'Connor
Yeah, Kelly in Pittsburgh. Hi, Kelly. Hey, Dan, thanks for taking the call.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I actually called. I love the contradict seaton in my own mind and in my own truck. I'm an over the road truck driver. Long story short.
Seaton O'Connor
And your call screener really got me at the end of call because I knew he was gonna ask and I'm.
Dan Patrick
Like, he says so where are you from? I said, well, I am from Pittsburgh. But what my point was. And he did, you know, he did tell me they were actually talking globally. But he liked what I had to say about it. So here, here's what it is. We haul the cable for Fox and cbs.
Seaton O'Connor
The headquarters for that is out of Pittsburgh, all the games, everything.
Dan Patrick
This is my 38th year of doing this. And I told him, I said there is no other team like the Pittsburgh Steelers. That number one doesn't necessarily have to travel well. Their fans live in these other cities. And when we go to these stadiums, of course we're going through the parking lots, the tailgate parties, the Steeler flags.
Seaton O'Connor
Are flying as much as the team that they're visiting. And when you go into the stadium.
Dan Patrick
For instance, and including Dallas, ironically, when.
Seaton O'Connor
You go to Texas Stadium for a.
Dan Patrick
Steelers Cowboy game, at least a third or not more of the fans in there are in black and gold and.
Seaton O'Connor
Live in the Dallas area.
Dan Patrick
And you're right, I think it's a genre.
Seaton O'Connor
Older fans, 70s, that's what did it. Yeah. Hey, Pittsburgh travels. There are fan bases who are really good at traveling. But I said if I said you could buy the Cowboys or the Steelers. What are you buying? You're buying the Cowboys, Paul.
Dan Patrick
Just from lifestyle. I like the.
Seaton O'Connor
No, I'm talking about value.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah, you're.
Seaton O'Connor
We're talking about value. There's no lifestyle.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I think that. Yeah, they're probably the Steelers.
Seaton O'Connor
No, you take the Cowboys.
Dan Patrick
The Cowboys are probably bloated in value, though.
Seaton O'Connor
You'd still take them. They're probably worth more than $10 billion. Why sell? Why did the bus family sell? We'll find out next. Hour two on this Thursday after this.

The Dan Patrick Show – Hour 1 Summary
Episode: Lakers Sold, Tyrese Haliburton Game Time Decision
Release Date: June 19, 2025
The hour kicks off with hosts Dan Patrick and Seaton O'Connor diving straight into a heated discussion about a significant development in the sports world: the $10 billion sale of the Los Angeles Lakers. To engage their listeners, they pose a poll question:
Poll Question: Are the Buss family selling the Lakers smart or nuts?
Timestamp: 07:34
Dan Patrick: "Classic game of smarter nuts."
Timestamp: 07:36
Seaton adds his perspective on the influx of billionaires owning sports teams, highlighting how ownership stakes elevate their influence and relevance across various sports franchises.
The conversation deepens into the implications of the Lakers' sale. Seaton explores the strategic moves by the new ownership, Mark Walter, comparing his approach to managing the Dodgers.
Seaton O'Connor: "What does it mean for you? What's it mean for your team moving forward?"
Timestamp: 07:48
Dan reflects on the legacy of the Buss family, emphasizing the sentimental and historical value tied to the Lakers' ownership.
Dan Patrick: "I can't imagine not wanting to keep that in the family."
Timestamp: 13:17
Seaton discusses the potential changes Walter might implement, drawing parallels with how the NBA's structure differs from baseball, particularly regarding player acquisitions and team building.
Shifting focus, the hosts address a pressing question for NBA fans: Tyrese Haliburton's participation in Game 6.
Poll Question: Should Tyrese Haliburton play in Game 6?
Timestamp: 04:31
Tyrese Haliburton: "I'm a competitor. I want to play. I'm going to do everything in my power to play and that's just what it is."
Timestamp: 04:53
Seaton analyzes Haliburton's current performance metrics and injury status, weighing the risks and rewards of his participation. He contemplates the strategic adjustments the opposing team, OKC Thunder, might employ to counter Haliburton's influence on the game.
Seaton O'Connor: "If you're telling me that if we get to game seven and I rest him for the next couple of days and he can be closer to 80, 90%, you might roll the dice."
Timestamp: 06:45
The hosts reveal the outcomes of their audience polls, showcasing listener sentiments on both the Lakers' sale and Haliburton's game participation.
Poll Results:
Smart: 71%
Nuts: 29%
Timestamp: 49:11
Should Haliburton play: 74% Yes
Timestamp: 49:16
Furthermore, Dan and Seaton field calls from listeners, delving into topics like the psychological appeal of iconic teams such as the Dallas Cowboys and the enduring relevance of franchises like the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Listener Daniel from Indiana:
Dan Patrick: "How do you feel about J.J. Redick, Rob Pelinka, you know, looking at everything here?"
Timestamp: 16:46
A significant portion of the discussion centers around the brand value and global recognition of different sports teams. The hosts compare the Lakers' and Celtics' enduring brands to that of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees.
Seaton O'Connor: "The Cowboys are probably the lone global NFL brand."
Timestamp: 39:22
Dan emphasizes the historical success and brand strength of the Lakers, arguing that their appeal transcends current team performance due to their storied legacy.
Dan Patrick: "The Lakers have led the league in star power."
Timestamp: 31:22
As the hour progresses, Dan and Seaton contemplate the future landscape of sports franchise ownership, considering the impact of billionaires entering the market and the potential shifts in team dynamics and league regulations.
Seaton O'Connor: "With the Lakers and the Celtics being sold in the same calendar year, that's pretty amazing."
Timestamp: 13:36
Dan questions the motivations behind such high-value sales and the long-term expectations new owners might have for their acquisitions.
Dan Patrick: "If you're getting out, why are you getting out? If you're buying it at 10 billion, what do you expect it to be in five years from now, 10 years from now?"
Timestamp: 13:17
Dan Patrick: "Smarter nuts."
Timestamp: 07:36
Tyrese Haliburton: "I'm a competitor. I want to play. I'm going to do everything in my power to play and that's just what it is."
Timestamp: 04:53
Seaton O'Connor: "If you're telling me that if we get to game seven and I rest him for the next couple of days and he can be closer to 80, 90%, you might roll the dice."
Timestamp: 06:45
Dan Patrick: "I can't imagine not wanting to keep that in the family."
Timestamp: 13:17
Seaton O'Connor: "The Cowboys are probably the lone global NFL brand."
Timestamp: 39:22
