We know he's going to lsu. Is he bringing players? Is he bringing coaches? Maybe he's bringing Marty Smith from espn. Maybe he got a ride on the private jet. Bill Cower will stop by the former Steelers head coach and we'll talk some college football as well. Andy Staples on three sports a little bit later on as well. Email address dp danpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow we start off with Lane Kiffin leaving, leaving Ole Miss for lsu. I don't think anybody's surprised at this, and he has his reasons why, but he did want to stay on. And there's varying reports here and I want to make sure that we're being fair to both sides here. But you know, they're getting ready to prepare for the college football playoffs. Probably going to have a home game and he wanted to stay on, but he also wants to take some of the coaching staff and reportedly wants to poach some of the players. Now, the players, I understand if they came to Ole Miss for Lane Kiffin and may want to play for him at lsu. As far as these coaches go, they may want to go. Maybe a few of them were on the private plane yesterday. Ole Miss owes Lane Kiffin gratitude for the wins, but once he walks out the door, they don't owe him any more than just that. He did a great job there. I don't think anybody is denying that, but he made this A public mess. And that's the problem I had with this. You're kind of toying with the situation. You were toying with Ole Miss. You were toying with these kids. You were toying with your fan base. You know, you could have waited. You could have waited till, you know, you beat Mississippi State and say, I'd love to coach this team. But he's already said, this team, these teams at Ole Miss can't win a national title because money wasn't the issue. He said he spoke to God. Now, I don't know if God is Nick Saban. Maybe he did speak to God. But I was thinking, maybe he spoke to Nick Saban and Saban said, yes, it's time to take the next step, my son. You know, Lane is going to chase the rest of his life. And once again, I go back to that documentary, the many lives of Lane Kiffin and everything that I thought I would like to rethink because it seemed like he had found happiness. But I don't know if he knows what happiness is. He keeps moving, keeps moving, keeps moving. I don't begrudge anybody who wants to take another job to make more money, whatever it is. But I want you to be honest. I want you to be fair to Ole Miss. They did give you an opportunity here, and now you want to take coaches with you. Hey, but I want to stay in coach. Can I do that? And then maybe privately, I'll talk to some of these players who might want to join me at lsu. No, leave you. You don't want to stay. You can't win a national championship. You've said that you can at lsu. And look, my college football source said last night, Lane will win at lsu. I don't think anybody has ever denied his coaching ability. And the talent in a 3, 3 hour radius of baton Rouge is probably unquestionably the most talented area, most fertile college football area in America. He'll win. He'll win. And then where does he go from there? Does he wait till the Alabama job is open? I mean, we've seen this before. So you can't sit there and go, you know, he'll retire at lsu. He will not retire at lsu. It wasn't money. So what was it? To win a national championship? Okay, we saw how that worked before this with Brian Kelly. Now he'll work harder than Brian Kelly did. But, you know, I felt bad for Ole Miss because you're just waiting. And I think we all agreed when we left on Wednesday, he was going to take lsu. So none of this is a surprise. I think how it played out was the disappointing part of this. But you go, that's your team now. You're not going to coach this team. Not anymore. We'll get to your phone calls coming up. Yes, Paulie?
Todd
I think one thing that stood out to me the past month is Lane Kiffin was pursued like he hadn't been pursued since, like 15 years ago when he was a hot property, Tennessee, USC. And he wanted his cake and eat it, too. He wanted the LSU job, more money for him, more money for his program to build, but he also wanted to coach Ole Miss through the playoffs. And it's. It's so irreasonable to do that. But I think he was so emboldened the past month that I want my cake and eat it, too. I want to coach and leave and poach and. And take and do it all because I'm at the peak again.
Dan Patrick
And I was surprised when he had comments that, hey, I wanted to coach him. Like, you're not a victim here, Lane. You created all of this. You didn't want to coach these kids. Now you could have. You could be coaching and. And you're in the college football players. You're probably going to host a game. You're going to go to lsu. You're going to be another coach at lsu. You could have been the coach at Ole Miss. And maybe that doesn't matter to you. Like, I don't know how important your legacy is because I think your legacy is damaged, certainly because of this. We move on from all of this. I know that we do this no matter what the story is. We'll move on and then we'll reflect back in four years and go, oh, yeah, Lane's leaving. Where's he going? Oh, yeah, that's right. He left. I mean, I've been around long, long enough to know we do move on from all of this, but I do think he'll be successful. I don't think anybody questions that. But in the manner in which he departed, I was sad and embarrassed for Lane Kiffin. Here is Lane Kiffin. He had an interview with Marty Smith just off the tarmac. He should know to stay away from that damn tarmac. Here is Lane on why he chose LSU over Ole Miss.
Lane Kiffin
My heart was here, but I just, you know, I talked to some mentors, Coach Carroll, Coach Saban, you know, and especially when Coach Carroll said, man, your dad would tell you to go, man, take the shot. You know, take the shot. You've accomplished a lot here. You know, I Always felt. I always hated how we only gave one year to Tennessee and left. I really hated that feeling of that, you know, even though it was an exciting year. But, you know, I think that we gave a lot to this program and to the city and, you know, some of those historic wins in the stadium they've ever had and best, best regular season in the history of the school. So I feel proud of that part, but just became time, you know, I talked to God and told me it's time to take a new step. It's a new chapter.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. I just wish he would have been honest and just said, look, I'm going to lsu. I feel like it's a better opportunity for what my goals are and my family, that's all. Thank you for your support. You know, I wish you the best of luck. I wish I was coaching because I love these kids and we've had a great season. But look, that's not fair to you, not fair to lsu, and then leave. But don't be toying around. You know, cryptic stuff that you know, and. And this is a bigger problem for college football. Could you imagine? Let's say Mike McDaniel got fired with the Dolphins and Mike Tomlin took the job. Right now in season, that's what we have here. A coach going to the playoffs, quitting to go to another school. But college football's created all of this mess. Remember, the kids were screwing it up. No, it's the grown ups who screw it up. The kids are just kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop here. These are all the chancellors and presidents and athletic directors. They're the ones that screw it up. The coaches. Yeah.
Todd
Paulie, remember a decade ago when we were angry that Christian McCaffrey skipped the sun Bowl? We're like, he's not playing in an exhibition Sun Bowl. He's not finishing his season. We got a coach who's going to the playoffs with a team that doesn't go to the playoffs. Ole Miss that often.
Dan Patrick
And he leaves.
Todd
It's surreal that, like you said.
Dan Patrick
Fournette. Leonard Fournette. Yeah. He sat out a game. Oh, my God. What are you doing to the pageantry of a bowl game? No, nobody wants to play in the Sun Bowl.
Todd
Well, hey.
Dan Patrick
Oh, man. You know, teams are going to hold this against Christian McCaffrey. Oh, really? Yeah. You know, he quit on his team. Okay. All right. This is a coach who quit on his team. Like, literally, he quit on his team and going to lsu. There's a lot of opinions out there. But Lane is not a victim. He's not a victim. He'll play a victim. Man. I wanted to coach them. You wanted to coach them. But did you want to bring some of your assistant coaches with you to lsu? Did you want to bring some of your players with you to lsu? Now, I would say, hey, Lane, you can. You can coach, but you can't take any of our players in any of our coaches. Okay, you sign a contract, let's say a million dollars for each player in each coach. That leaves that. You'll pay us back. How about that? How about we get lawyers who draw up real good contracts to protect schools? What was the buyout for Lane Kiffin at ole miss? 4 million. Yeah. And if he got fired, what was he going to get paid? 36 million, something crazy like that. That seems out of balance here. 4 million is nothing. Yes. Marvin.
Paulie
Yeah. There's going to be some type of Kiffin rule implemented. I don't know whether it's going to be you can't take this amount of players or you can't try to pick off our coaches in the middle of the season, but some type of Kiffin rule. They'll try to. I don't know if they'll succeed, but they'll try to implement it in new coaches contracts.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Todd, anything less than a championship with lsu, how does that affect the decision? When we look back on him leaving Ole Miss, does he have to win at least one title at lsu?
Dan Patrick
Even if he does, I mean it great. I mean, you got a lot of talent. You're gonna have more talent year in and year out than you did at Ole Miss. He should win. I mean, three other coaches won national titles there. So you're gonna be another coach who wins a national title there. Okay. But money wasn't the issue. And if it's talent, good. We wish you the best. But the way he left is the problem. It's the problem right now with him. It's a bigger problem with college football. What's the poll question? First hour, Dylan. All right, we got a couple options.
Sam Hutchins
Dan, from Paulie.
Dan Patrick
If you're the Ole Miss ad, would you have let Lane coach throughout the playoff? Yes or no? Okay. Yeah.
Todd
Paul, I'm going to say a hard no on that. Wouldn't even consider it. But when you brought up the idea of some type of contract where he couldn't take assistant coaches and couldn't take players under that umbrella, I could consider it, but it would still be such a bad look. No, you can't do it. Can't do it.
Dan Patrick
Does anybody think that Lane Kiffin should have been able to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs? No. Yeah, Todd, I agree that it's a.
Paulie
Very bad look, but I could also sell it by saying, you know, we went this far, we're having this amazing season. We owe it to the players to see it through. I hate seeing that he's still in his Ole Miss gear and he's already a great agreed to coach somewhere else, a rival in the sec. But, you know, he's leaving. Why don't we get the most out of him and, you know, he's got this relationship with the players. Let's see how far we can go and then good riddance after that.
Dan Patrick
But, and I said this on Wednesday, I don't want the College Football Playoff committee to then punish these players and this, this team. And hey, you don't have your head coach. We've seen this with quarterbacks who haven't been able to play and then all of a sudden their team, you know, is lowered as far as the rankings go or they don't even make the playoffs. I get that Lane Kiffin gives you a better chance, but I can't. I would rather go in with my now elevated defensive coordinator and our team and we're playing and it's the people who want to be here. I can't have this. You know, Michigan basketball did this with Bill Freer, Steve Fisher, you know, Bo Schembechler famously said, I want a Michigan guy coaching Michigan. And you can take a hard stance on this. I mean, I try to be adaptable. I mean, I try to mature with all the things that are happening. And back in my day, it's easy to say that, but this is, this was just unfortunate and sad how this played out, but it certainly sounded like Lane was wimpy on the tarmac and made it seem like he was a victim and he's not. Alrighty. We'll come up with a poll question, more on this situation. Bill Cower actually had some thoughts. I was watching the NFL today yesterday. He had some thoughts about this. Also, Mike Tomlin getting booed at home. Fire Mike Tomlin Chance there. We'll take a break. Just getting started on this Monday. Glad you're on board with us. Calls coming up as well. We do every Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. We'll talk to the former Steeler head coach Bill Cower. That was a pitiful offensive performance from the Steelers yesterday against the Buffalo Bills. By the way, I think you might be surprised. The second Best odds to win the Super Bowl. I'll have that for you coming up in a little bit here. Sam Hutchins, he covers Ole Miss football for Clarion Ledger, and he's had a lot to report on. Sam, thanks for joining us. When did you start to think that Lane Kiffin was gone?
Sam Hutchins
You know, I'd like to say I was going back to Occam's Razor. I think that's what it is. Like, the simplest explanation is probably the most reliable. Right. And there were just a hundred small things that he would have done differently over the last, you know, four weeks, six weeks, if he were staying. So I think it was, at least for me, I'm not sure there was one moment. I think it was a slow drip of realization that, man, like, why would you do that? Or why would you say that? Or why would you phrase something like that if you're going to stay in Oxford? So it was more of a slow drip for me than, I think, a sudden realization.
Dan Patrick
Trying to understand what happened in the meeting with the athletic director. Did he want to stay? Did he threaten to take coaches, that he threatened to take players? Was. Was he trying to leverage this where he could still coach Ole Miss in the playoffs?
Sam Hutchins
Yeah. Yeah, I think the College Football Playoff was, throughout this whole process was definitely Ole Miss's best carrot to dangle. Right. And not only because Lane's never coached in 1 4, but you sort of are setting him up to be the villain if. If he leaves the college football playoffs. So I. I think that Keith Carter and that realization had set in pretty firmly in Oxford, even, you know, after the Egg bowl or we were waiting, you know, refreshing on. On Saturday for this whole coaching search before it even unfolded Sunday. But, yeah, Lane, that was kind of the last sticking point. And I think maybe the Iron bowl held things up, right? Because if Auburn would have won, Ole Miss would be playing in the SEC Championship. But, yeah, Lane definitely wanted to coach in. In the College Football Playoff. And then in his statement, it was pretty strongly worded, kind of going after Keith Carter, the athletic director, a little bit. And then in his interview on the. The tarmac with Marty, I think he was a little more understanding of Ole Miss's situation and his situation.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I don't know if he understands the gravity of all of this. It's like, hey, I tried, you know, you know, I just, I. I gotta go. God told me to go to lsu. I mean, it doesn't work that way, you know, and, and. And I said, maybe jokingly, I thought he was Referring to Nick Saban, when he said, I spoke to God. No, he said he talked to Saban and he talked to God as well. He just. I don't know. And I mentioned this before, Sam, he seems like a chaser. Like they, there are certain coaches that are never, ever satisfied. They're chasing, chasing. They don't even know what they're chasing because even if he wins a national title, he'll still chase. And I, I just thought that given that documentary on espn, that maybe found happiness, you know, with his family, his ex wife, that program. I guess that's the surprising part of it. And it felt like he was trying to play a little bit of a victim there at the very end that I wanted to coach him, but they wouldn't let me. What do you make of all of that?
Sam Hutchins
Yeah, I thought this was truly, it was so fascinating, you know, not even because of the documentary, that was certainly super, super notable, but just because of the general, you know, I guess PR campaign might not be the right phrasing, but how he turned his life around. I actually, I love your interviews that you've done with Lane, Dan, and you talked to him when he's at Florida Atlantic and you know, all these different spots, and that's what's been, you know, so beneficial about the six years he's been in Oxford for both sides. Ole missed four straight bowl games before he got here. Look where they are. And Lane was a little radioactive. He, you know, at times at Florida Atlantic, he was pretty wanted. But Lane has never become a hotter commodity on the coaching market until now. So this, this has been such a beneficial relationship for both sides. But I, I guess Dan, you'd remember more than me. But I was thinking about this last night. If it, if it goes south in Baton Rouge, you know, not that I think it will. I think Lane's a great coach, but I guess Brian Kelly probably didn't either. But if it goes south, like, where will the, the biggest risk to me is where will Lane, where will his name be up in, in the ring of honor one day at, at Florida Atlantic? Like, he doesn't. He's giving up his, his home right now. And certainly I think he's going to do well in Baton Rouge. They all think he's going to do well. And I think he, you know, if you go into the hall of Fame, like the MLB debate, he may one day have like the tiger on his hat. Right. But if it goes poorly, I just wonder for Lane, like, do you regret giving up your home, giving up a place you were loved. Six years in Oxford is the longest of any stop in his coaching journey.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Sam Hutchins, Ole Miss beat reporter for the Clarion Ledger. If the players voted, and I said this last Wednesday, I know he's going to want to stay, but if the players want him, if they took a vote and they wanted him to coach, then I would certainly factor that in. If they had taken that vote, what do you think the results would have been?
Sam Hutchins
I don't think it would have been unanimous. Right. And of course, like on a roster of 100 plus players, of course it's not, um, but I think generally it had gotten to the point where players would have said go. And there. One aspect to this is they love Pete Golding. The guy they promoted is kind of the perfect stability guy. I had a column come out, he's kind of the anti Lane Kiffin. Then all Pete Golding tweets out is Shark emojis. Like his last 48 tweets, I think 47 have been just a single Shark emoji. But he'll come in a room, he has a southern accent and he fires everyone up. So he's sort of the perfect, like, foil to Lane to turn to if you just want to stabilize the roster before your most important game in program history in 20 years. But I was at the Manning center yesterday, kind of talking to, frankly, any of the players who would chat on the way out. And maybe it was just a small boost, a temporary boost because Pete and Keith gave him a great speech, but it sort of seemed to me like they were. They were relieved that it was over. And here's the deal. Their window to transfer will open at the end of the season, so they can still go to LSU if they want. And I'm sure Lane would love to have Kewan Lacy the running back, Trinidad Chambliss the quarterback. So. So the players, I think, are the biggest winner in this situation, perhaps because they can still go if they want, but now they can focus on, you know, potentially hosting a game in Oxford here and 19 or 20 days and.
Dan Patrick
I'm guessing maybe a year from now, in November, LSU comes to Ole Miss, correct?
Sam Hutchins
That's right. They're coming here next year. The mustard bottles will be flying off the shelves at the Walmart here.
Dan Patrick
Last question. What does the committee do to Ole Miss, if anything, since they're losing their head coach?
Sam Hutchins
Yeah, that's. That, that'll be. That's kind of the next fascinating thing. I. The short answer is I don't think they dropped them out of a playoff spot. Maybe it's the home playoff spot, maybe it's the last home playoff spot. But people have been bringing up the Florida State situation when, when Jordan Travis got hurt. But I think the, the thing that some folks miss is that Florida State situation. There was a data point of Travis losing or losing Travis, and then they looked really bad in the next game. So I thought, hey, there's an argument if you're Ole Miss, you don't want to go to the SEC championship game because if you lose Lane and then get boat raced by Georgia, that would maybe give the committee more of an excuse to drop you. But, you know, frankly, we have no idea what this team looks like without Lane, what this team looks like without its coordinators. So I think that would be a tough sell for the committee to drop them out of a home playoff spot.
Dan Patrick
You're not going to LSU with Lane Kiffin, are you?
Sam Hutchins
No, no. He, he was so fun to cover, Dan. And I did hot yoga with him and he was so fun. But there were times last year over my time on the beat that I wished I covered a normal coach, you know, who wasn't tweeting when I was at the golf course or at the, at the Walmart or something.
Dan Patrick
Good stuff, Sam. Thanks for joining us.
Sam Hutchins
Anytime, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Appreciate you. Sam Hutchins, Ole Miss beat reporter for the Clarion Ledger. He was good. Yeah. Lane's tricky, but Lane is really good. And I will state that once again, he will win at lsu. He will. Is it enough to satisfy him?
Commercial Announcer
I don't know.
Dan Patrick
And I don't know why I'm even worried about it. I should care about it, but I don't want Ole Miss to get dinged because their head coach left. And they probably will, but I, that would be, that'd be the bad part of this, from the Ole Miss perspective of that's hurting us right now. Lane leaves, but you know, he leaves a stench behind because you might not get that home playoff game. Yes.
Todd
Paul, you said this on Wednesday, before we knew what was going to happen, that if he goes to lsu, Lane Kiffin, it's going to damage his reputation short term, long term.
Sam Hutchins
It's so.
Todd
I don't know if sad's the right word. Sports, sad. He was an Ole Miss. He was quirky, he was likable. He poked the bear. The bigger teams. It reminded me of Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, a great character of the game in kind of a next tier SEC school, going after the heavyweights. And you rooted for Ole Miss. And you rooted for Kiffin because it's fresh and it's fun and that's gone. It's gone.
Dan Patrick
And you know that I love content and Lane is content. But yes, I think this damages his legacy. I really, I do. And I like him when he's on. He's entertaining. But I don't know him. I mean, I only know him from this when he's on the show. That's it. I've never hung out with him. We don't talk when I'm not doing the show. I can only tell you when he's on the show. He's entertaining. James in Virginia. Hi, James. What's on your mind?
Caller
Oh, thank you for taking my call, brother. Happy Monday. DP Dan X. Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, man, and what a great weekend of football. And I, I got college and NFL for you real quick. I really have a problem with college football right now, man, because you got two teams in BYU and Bama that are going to play this weekend in the conference championship and if they don't win, they're not going to make the College Football Playoff. But then you have a group, five or seven teams that aren't even playing this weekend, Oregon, Ole Miss, A M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, that basically get a bye week and a guaranteed spot in the College Football Playoff, man, it's something they got to figure out. But it's just crazy, man. Roll Tide, man. I'm a roll with them. And in the NFL real quick, there's two teams I'm looking at. What a great game last night though, man. I love to see the fight in Washington. But the two teams that I'm looking at, man, the Texans, man, their defense is stout. I don't know offensively if they got it, but they're going to be a tough out if they get into the playoffs. And in the NFC, man, the San Francisco 49ers, I think this team is a Super bowl contender. What a crazy way to think, because they are just dealing with injuries, but man, they are 8 and 2 in the NFC right now and if they get in, I think they make the NFC championship.
Commercial Announcer
Actually.
Caller
Pride of the face. The Niners make the NFC championship, man, right on the spot, if you let me know. You guys have a wonderful day, man. Salute, commanders.
Dan Patrick
Alrighty. I'll take you up on that, James. You got the Niners. They beat the Browns, by the way. Okay, so let's give me a. A little more formidable opponent there. You're nine and four, okay? You beat the Browns and I Watch most of the game because of course I have to report on Shador Sanders and he didn't do anything. He was just look like a average quarterback there, that's all. Could have been worse. He could have been the Vikings quarterback. Yes. Dylan Shadur Sanders passing prop was the most bet of the weekend. It was over 150 passing yards. He finished with 149. Really? Ah, rats. This drives Todd crazy.
Paulie
How do they understand it? How they get it within a half.
Dan Patrick
A point a yard? No, I know. How do they know that? Yeah, I watched a lot of the Bills and the Steelers. The Steelers look terrible. That offense, nothing, nothing in the second half. And I don't think Buffalo is second coming in the Steel Curtain, but you're seeing teams running the football. The Bears did this, Buffalo did this. I mean Buffalo put up numbers that people in Pittsburgh haven't seen. You have to go prior to the Steel Curtain, I think. But that, that was a mess. Some of the other games give you sort of a Cliff Notes version here. Here's something to think about. The Colts and the Jags are tied, but I don't think we believe in either one of them. The Ravens and the Steelers are tied. I don't think we believe in either one of them. And then the Cowboys beat the Eagles and the Chiefs over a span of four days. Here's Dak Prescott having to get these wins against two elite teams. I mean the two teams that played in the super bowl last year, last year's last year. But you're talking about two organizations that, that obviously know how to win. And we just beat them both in two great games, as you said, in four days. And just showing the resiliency of, of this unit, of this brotherhood on top of everything that we've been through. Yeah, I don't know if there's been two more impressive wins, but I can tell you right now that we're not going to just sit on some high because of that. We know we've got a big one coming again next week. And all this really does for us is just give us more confidence knowing that we can go play with whoever. That's true. What a turnaround here. We knew the offense was going to be good, but the defense, we said if the defense was even average, the offense is above average, you can be a playoff team. Super bowl odds right now, this. According to DraftKings this morning, the Rams are the favorites, followed by the Seahawks. Wow. Then it's the Packers. The three best odds in the NFL are three NFC teams. Then it's Buffalo. Then the Eagles, Broncos and Patriots MVP odds. It's right now two quarterback race Matthew Stafford and Drake May. The Matthew Stafford plus 105, Drake May plus 120. Then it goes down to Dak Prescott at plus 1100. Dylan, would you update the poll results, please?
Sam Hutchins
Yeah, Dan, so we asked if you're.
Todd
The Ole Miss AD, would you have let Lane coach through the playoff?
Dan Patrick
76% are saying no.
Todd
Yeah, Paul, I thought it'd be 90% no. I would say the only way they could have let him coach Ole Miss in the playoffs if he had taken a job at Penn State or out of conference. But LSU next to Mississippi State is their rival. It's, it's next door. Statewise. You can't do it.
Dan Patrick
Penn State still doesn't have a coach, which is interesting. A lot of rumors, A lot of rumors there. But that's where I said it before. I'll say it again. James Franklin can't win the big one, but was he still the best coach that you could get right now? Yeah.
Paulie
Marvin, is Penn State looking for a coach that can help them win a national title? Are they a national championship contender at their best? Like, do they have those type of expectations as a program?
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Why?
Dan Patrick
Yes, well, they do have a lot of talent. I mean, it feels like every year there, but then we get into November and then all of a sudden we go, ah, they got a must win. Here's a white out there playing Ohio State. And then Ohio State ends up winning. Yes, Marvin.
Paulie
But I always felt like they were a second tier Big Ten team behind Ohio State and Michigan. Were they ever like, hey, they're the best team in the Big Ten? This might be a generational thing.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I mean, a while ago they were, they were, or at least they were maybe on par with Ohio State, Michigan, but now you got Indiana in there. Say it's Ohio State, Indiana. I mean, Michigan didn't look good. Ohio State did to Michigan what Michigan's been doing to Ohio State. And that's just being more physical. But yeah, I, I put Penn State sort of in the conversation behind them. They're, they live in the neighborhood, but they don't have the nicest house in the neighborhood. We'll take a break. I watched a little bit of the Vikings and Matt Brosmer, undrafted free agent, was quarterbacking for the Vikings. So you're playing against your former quarterback and Sam Darnold. The Vikings have six points and 300 total net yards over the last two games combined. He threw four interceptions and he did what drives me crazy when a play is dead, then go down. He's getting spun around and he's trying to make one of these backyard throws that you make with your bros. You don't even do that in college. You might do that in high school or in the backyard. And he threw a pick six. You know, it's a shame he's out there because he's not ready to play. He looks like a practice squad guy, but you got these injuries and now what are you going to do? Having a good backup quarterback and they had CARSON Wentz. But J.J. mcCarthy situation, I mean, this is a mess because I think most people looked at the Vikings of is there going to be an upgraded quarterback? If you're getting rid of Danny Dimes, you're getting rid of Sam Darnold, then JJ McCarthy must be really good and maybe he'll turn out to be. But this is. This is a team that you thought, okay, maybe they play good defense, maybe they run the football. You still have the best wide receiver in the game, or at least you used to when you had a good quarterback. Painful. Painful to watch. Buddha in San Francisco. Good morning, Buddha. What up, D.P. happy Monday, boys. Let's go, Paulie. I know Paulie doesn't like to show emotion or cry, but when was the last time your Bears were the NFC number one seed? In December. That is sweetness.

But Dan, I hesitate to bring this up and keeping this in poly fashion, but this weekend wasn't like full of like word. It was more full of worse for me. I mean, from the Sunday night game last night and listening to Collinsworth pronounced Mario to all game confusing. And then to your point, Max Brosnar throwing more completions to the Seahawks than to his own wide receiver, Justin Jefferson. That was tragic. And then, I mean, and then laying the whole Lane Kiffin thing is like, I just don't even know what to think. I mean, that's such a bad look. As Seaton says, jeepers creepers. And I cannot wait for next year in Oxford. And I guess my best would be just the Rams going down and my Niners beating the Browns. But real quick, poll question, who is more for real, the Niners or the Bears?
Dan Patrick
Well, I believe in both of those teams. But you got injuries with the Niners, like at. Are they playoff teams? Yes, I felt like they were playoff teams starting the year, but I'm surprised with the Bears. I mean, that's a big win. And maybe the Eagles aren't who we thought they were, but you still beat the Eagles and you ran the ball. You dominated them. That doesn't happen to that defensive line. David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, Dan. Best and worst of the weekend. Best Watching the Buckeyes finally beat Michigan Wolverines after 2000. Some days worse of the weekend, watching my Steelers. They're just. They're just pitiful, Dan, man. And I heard the chance fire Mike Tom and Fire Mike Tomlin. And I just. I just think it's time to maybe go in a Different direction. I know what you're thinking. Oh, who are they going to replace? Well, Marcus Freeman name been thrown around as well as Jon Gruden. His name's also in the coach transfer portal. So I think both of those possibly could be a good replacement for Tomlins. So thank you.
Dan Patrick
All right, thank you, David. Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, thank you, Dan, as always. Hey, I got a best and worst for you and you covered my original best well on Lane Kiffin not being able to coach. And I Too remember like 30 years ago or so when ad both schembechler at Michigan told Bill Freeter to get lost about coaching in the tourney. And yeah, I guess Freedme's lucky Woody Hayes wasn't the ad. He probably would have got a punch in the nose as well. And I guess I'll shift to my best. Maybe one of the most underrating, underrated running backs in NFL history. Frank Gore this weekend is still going. He's one of the finalists for or getting to that point of getting into the holiday of fame.
Dan Patrick
And.
Caller
And there's a running back. He had both his knees blown out. Third all time leading rusher. I hope he gets in. And my worst, you know, Vanderbilt, a big win and I guess it's because of NIL and the transfer portal. Now there are so many really good teams in in football this year and it's going to be too bad that, you know, there's going to be some left out and I can't wait till they go to 16 teams.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Chris. Well, it won't happen next year. Probably the year after that. Right now Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Oregon, Texas Tech, Texas A and M, Alabama, Ole Miss and Oklahoma will get in. And based on the odds Notre Dame, Virginia and North Texas will be joining them. I think North Texas coach, didn't he leave? I think he's. He. There's a couple of coaches. So North Texas against Tulane. Didn't both those coaches take other jobs? Yep. Oh, man.
Todd
And those got to be filled. And those got to be filled.
Dan Patrick
And those gotta be. No, no. The gift that keeps on giving. Hey, Gus. Best and worst of the weekend. Hey, guys. Oh, try again, Gus. More phone calls coming up. Bill Cower will join us as well. He had some sharp comments about Lane Kiffin. We'll ask him. Also about those fire Mike Tomlin chants.
Todd
Yes, Paul, on that Steeler topic, the Steelers fans got to be in this weird position. You need your team to lose more than win. If you want a new head coach Next year they have the Ravens, Dolphins, Lions, Browns, Ravens. That's not easy, especially when you're playing poorly. But I think you need to lose to get what you want, if that's what you want.
Dan Patrick
Not make the playoffs, have a losing.
Todd
Record, like lose four, the next five and then you're a firing is in no offense in play.
Dan Patrick
Feels like everything's in play now. I'm very, it's very rare when I'm surprised be like, damn, I didn't see that. We will be back next hour. I can guarantee that. We're not going anywhere. We're not going anywhere. Bill Cower will join us in about 25 minutes. What a matchup we got, y'.
