And if you ever gone to a movie and you come home and all of a sudden you say, this movie was great. And then all of a sudden it's. Who was in it? This guy. Remember this guy? And he was, okay, you know what, let me Google it. And then I'll tell you who this is. Like the Usual Suspects. There are no real stars in there at the time. Like Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey. They were all good actors. And then all of a sudden go, man, this movie, it was wild. It was really good. Who's in it? Oh, that guy. And maybe that guy. Me and one of the Baldwin brothers. I'm not sure which one. It's like, it's not Steve. I don't know, maybe it's Stephen. It's not Alec. Kevin Pollock, remember? So you, you had that, you kind of have that with the NBA Finals and maybe have that with the Indiana Pacers. You're like, they're really good. Well, who do they have? Well, remember the guy who won a title in Toronto and remember the guy who was in Sacramento and then he got. This guy was like the 9th pick overall. And you know, their coach, he looks a lot like Jim Carrey, but he's bald. Like, you know all of this stuff, you're where you're going. Yeah, yeah, okay. You know, and then the other team has a guy who played a Gonzaga, like, he's a seven foot guy who's got a good handle. And then they got a guy who's got a hyphen in his name and he's the mvp. Huh? That's the feeling you kind of get. And it's been fun, been exciting. And what you saw last night with Indiana was that was a team that appeared to be in better shape than okc. And if you watch, Brian Windhorse brought this up this morning on the Mothership. There's like eight minutes to go there at the free throw line. And you could see the Pacers are standing up and OKC is kind of holding onto their shorts. And that is a tired team. But the Pacers will do that to you. They're scoring. And if they get. I think there's a stat when they get over 111 points, maybe it's 114. They win. They win every time. And they are controlling the pace. They are the Pacers. And they've done a really good job with that so far. And OKC has lost all four, all of the fourth quarters, all three fourth quarters so far. And you saw that last night, Indiana. The difference was the Fourth quarter, Pacers aren't going away. They don't know better. But OKC is still a great team. But this game on Friday night, that's your series. Because if Indiana goes up three games to one now, all of a sudden, can you win three games in a row? Yes, they can, because it goes back to what I said when this series started. Indiana has no chance. Oh, you got everybody picking. Maybe. If not four, five games. Jay Z bet a million dollars OKC was going to win in five. Oops. And now here we are, Pacers up two games to one. Now the momentum is the next game. You know, we react, overreaction. Fritzy all of a sudden goes, I think Indiana's going to win. And he had OKC winning in what, six games or five games to start the series. Yep. Let's just slow down. I have the Pacers in six. Let's see. Maybe. But OKC is going to come back, and this is the chess match that you have. Rick Carlisle is a great coach. And then you start to wonder, okay, if I'm okay. See, what do I think they're going to do next time? And I'm thinking, you don't have to do anything. How about you just continue to do what you're doing and then see what they do? As far as react, I don't want to react because I think they're going to react or counter their reaction. It's like, all right, let me see if you can beat us this way. It's going to be multiple guys going at sga and we're going to pick them up full court. We're going to tire them out, and hopefully we're going to be holding on for the first three quarters. And then you get to the fourth quarter, and then we're going to take over. And the bench was so important. We've talked about this many, many times with different teams. What kind of depth do you have? And when you go to them, what are you getting here? Is Rick Carlisle talking about his bench? TJ just brought a. A will, competitive will to the game. You know, Mathurin jumped in there and immediately was aggressive and got the ball in the basket. And, you know, look, this is the kind of team that we are. We need everybody to be ready. It's not always going to be exactly the same guys that are stepping up with scoring and stuff like that, but this is how we got to do it, and we got to do it as a team. And. And, you know, we. We got to make it as hard as possible on them. You can go to your bench. You just want to make sure that your bench is ready to go. It's like the Knicks. You're going to go to your bench. Well, I can, but what are you getting when you go there? And OKC has depth as well. You know, these are very balanced teams. But you saw last night a bench that was ready to go, and the energy that playing in your building was certainly there. Yes. The Thunder seemed to be in a much different spot than the Pacers, because the Pacers, when they look at their defensive plan, they're like, how do we stop sga? The Thunder are like, how do we stop all those guys on the bench? Yeah. How do we stop all this. This surge coming from the bench every game that's just wiping us out. How do we stop all of those guys? And Matheran, it feels like, has one game a series. Nismith has one game each series. Nemhard has one game. That's what you need. You need to have that guy where you go. And he just went off, you know, Siakam, when he went off for what, 38 in a game? You just need to have that guy. Or guys, TJ McConnell was wonderful last night, just forcing turnovers, steals, turning them into points. You need our guy to have our game. Yeah. And it's not a guy that you expect, because that's where you go. We did a pretty good job on everybody, but not that guy. And Indiana has been sharing the wealth so far, and that's a big win last night. But Friday, Friday's the season for okc, and once again, we came into the NBA Finals, and everybody said they're one of the biggest favorites in the last 25 years. In fact, all. Only one other team was a bigger favorite, and that was Golden State. And that was about a decade ago, but other than that, it was okay. See, 68 wins, 80 wins total coming into the NBA Finals. And, you know, you had a situation in the Eastern Conference Finals where Tom Thibodeau might have gotten fired, or in part because they lost to the Pacers. Well, the Pacers are up two games to one to okc. And by the way, with the Knicks, I don't know what their plan B, C, D, E, F is, and maybe I'd give them an F right now for their plan B, C, D and E. But you guys are, oh for six from the floor so far, I think. And maybe you wanted to get rid of Tom. Like, we know that we don't want that coach, but we're. We're trying to Find somebody that we can get to coach the team right now. And they're asking for permission and they're being denied. And, you know, Brian Winhorse talked about this, that, you know, it's part of negotiations. Maybe, maybe Dallas is saying, we want a first round pick, and until then, we're not going to give you permission to talk to Jason Kidd. And maybe the Knicks will go, okay, we'll give you a first round pick and then it's over with. But in the meantime, when all of a sudden you go, you know, maybe Mike Woodson might be a head coaching candidate. Like, haven't we done this before? Or Mark Jackson, he helped build Golden State. Okay. Doesn't feel like. Like the plan was to get rid of a coach. The plan was who is. There is no plan. Who is going to be our coach. That's the feeling. So all that goodwill you built up, what a great story. This is fun. This is excitement. You know, the NBA is better when the Knicks are in contention. We're going to the Eastern Conference finals. And then all of a sudden it's like, yeah, it was a good year, but we're gonna fire our head coach. And, well, who do you got? Who's come? I mean, you must know, is Michael Malone coming in? And then all of a sudden he's not. I go, okay, I'm surprised at that. I thought it was one of those, all right, we're going to replace Tibbs. We bring in Michael Malone. We're good. We're even better because he's won a championship before. All right, U.S. open getting underway today. We'll keep an eye on that. The NBA Finals. Mike Breen will join us a little bit later on as well. Seaton, what's the poll question from the first hour of this program? Well, we might as well start with who's winning the NBA Finals now? Pacers, Thunder. Okay. I think a lot of us had the Thunder winning. Yeah, a lot. I think a lot of people had Thunder winning. Oh, yeah. That would make them the biggest favorites that we've had in 25 years. Yeah. The betting odds right now, the Thunder is still favored to win. Minus 220. It was minus 5, 25 yesterday. Pacers are plus 185 to win the title. It was plus 400 yesterday. And the NBA Finals. Correct series score. Right now, the favorite is Thunder to win in seven. And then the second favorite, Thunder to win in six. Then it's the Pacers to win in six as well. 8, 7, 7, 3. DP show. Any other poll questions that we're considering today. This is a really interesting one from Paul. I don't know if it's necessarily a poll question, but it's a great topic that maybe we can make a poll question out of. But the best movie with no stars at the time. At the time. Okay, all right. Marvin the 40 year old virgin. Steve Carell was not a star. Seth Rogen was not a star. That movie came out in 2005. They were not stars back then. Steve Carell wasn't. It was Star with the Office. It was. Hey, the guy from the Office. Okay. You didn't know who Steve Carell was. Paul Rudd was in there. The guy from Clueless. Yeah, it was a lot of. The guy from Blank. Okay. These are all massive successes though, that you're. It's like saying, like Harrison Ford. Yeah. You know that guy from Star Wars. That's all anybody knows. It's like, oh, no, no, no. But I'm saying, okay, I'm saying at the time, the time, it wasn't Steve Carell. I know who Steve Carell is. It was the guy from Blank. Okay. Paul Rudd was the guy from Blank. Okay. All right. Yes, Paul, I'm gonna co sign with Marvin on that. Here are a few more movies with no stars at the time. Wait a minute, why don't we take a break? Okay. We'll come back with this. I like this topic here. So operator Tyler sitting by, he'll take your phone calls. We'll settle on our poll question here. Prior to Game one, OKC favored to win in five games and then the second favorite was to win in four, then to win in six and then to win in seven. And then the next bet would have been the Pacers to win in six. That's plus 1400. The Thunder right now are still favored to win in seven with plus one. 70. Win in six, plus 200. And then the Pacers to win in six. Plus 500. We also stumbled upon this that the NBA Finals and I don't know how many hall of Famers we're going to have out of this. And I'm curious if we can have research, look at NBA Finals with the fewest hall of Famers. As we go back in history, which NBA Finals had the fewest hall of Famers? The first series that came up was the Baltimore Bullets against Golden State. You had Rick Barry and then a bunch of role players. So Rick is one of the great scorers of all time. Hall of Famer. The Bullets, I think, had Wes unselled. I don't think Bobby Dandridge is in the hall of Fame. I think Phil Cheniere was on that team. Not a Hall of Famer. Wes Uncell was Hall of Famer. You might have had two hall of Famers in that. I'd have to do a closer look. Yeah. Seaton that Rockets magic. Well, you had Shaq. Akeem was Clyde. I think that's about it. Clyde Drexler in that. So you might have had three. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think. Horace Grant, not a Hall of Famer. Nick Anderson, not a Hall of Famer. Penny. No, no. Yeah. Paul. 2007, the Cavaliers versus Spurs. I know the spurs had a couple hall of Famers. Well, they had at least three. At least that they. Well, you had Tim and David and you had Manu and Tony Parker. But the other side of that I'm pretty sure LeBron was the only hall of Fame. Yes. Yeah, but that would have been five. I think it's going to have to be three or less for the fewest hall of Famers. And if you're looking at this, are any of these guys on the Pacers going to be hall of Famers? If Tyrese Halliburton wins the NBA Finals and Finals mvp. Okay, that's a great head start. Sga. Winning the mvp, if he would be the Finals mvp, led the league in scoring. Shay's in now. You think he's a Hall of Famer already? For. For the Naismith Basketball hall of Fame. You win an MVP award, you are going to the hall of Fame. There's nobody that's ever won the MVP that's eligible. That's not it. Okay, all right. Kind of yelling at me there. Did feel like you were yelling. Forgive me. Okay, all right, fair enough. I got feelings, too. Okay. Any. Anybody that's ever won the MVP. Okay, can go. Derrick Rose, by the way, LeBron James on his Mind the Game podcast, talked about the Thunder Pacers matchup. We praise a lot of individuals, and rightfully so. We have unbelievable individuals in our sport over the years, have done great things and have put themselves in position to be talked about. I get it. But one thing we cannot disrespect is great teams. You know, we have this Indiana OKC situation, and these are two great teams. And if you are a basketball fan and you really love our game and you can learn so much from watching the way those. Both of those teams play, okay, for me, I love watching it. But for the casual fan, you know, the drive by fan, they're not going to be tuning into this. I mean, you can say aesthetically, boy, this is great basketball, and it is. But that doesn't mean you do need star power to get a bigger number. I don't care about the ratings. I couldn't care less about the ratings. Even the show that I do, I just do the show. Whether you consume it or not or how long you're listening or watching, I can only do so much. And the same with these players, you know, they're. They're not all of a sudden going to be box office superstars. They can build into that. But you do need star power if you want to get people who are curious about, hey, I want to watch that guy. Yeah. Paulie. Typical LeBron, making it about himself. Typical. Hijacking the series with his comments. Someone's gonna say that. All right. Movie best Movies without stars in it. We. We brought up. I. I made the comparison. It's kind of like the Usual Suspects that we didn't know a lot of these people who were in that movie. It turned out to be a great movie, and maybe that's how we can look at the NBA Finals. And. And it would be the Unusual Suspects, though, I think. Okay. All right, I'm off. I'm Todd. Don't be afraid to bloop me. We're 26 minutes in. I'm not going to give it to you. Just. Well, you got to listen to the show, and then maybe you would have blooped me. Okay. Half a blue. All right. All right. So best movie without a star. Paulie, what's the list? I got a list. A bunch of 80s, 90s, and today. How about dazed and confused? McConaughey's first ever time in front of a camera. There's not a lot of breakout stars. Parker Posey's in it. Great movie. A lot of people love that movie, including myself. Dazed and Confused and Pretty great movie. Richard Linklater. Seaton is a director. I think that was a no stars movie. Okay. It has a lot of likes. You like this one, Dan? Napoleon Dynamite. I'll do whatever I feel like. That's as. Nobody says they can get no stars in it then. No stars in it now. Wow. Wait, wait. Kip didn't turn out to be a big star. How about Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Great call. How about Fast Times at Richmond? BB Kate's not that famous. Jennifer's. Jason Lee went on to a great career. Anthony Edwards is in it. Eric Stoltz is in it. Okay. Young Sean Penn, who is Starish. Okay. That's a great call. All right. Who else? This is a niche one. Clerks, it was an independent film that blew up. Great movie. I don't know if you could judge it. Great. As much so as had a huge reach when it came out. And they were true nobodies. I think we're throwing out. Great. I. I would put Clerks in there as great. They. I mean. Well, I think the budget for it was like $30,000 or something like that. And they made the movie on credit cards. And it. You still talk about it today. I mean, it. I would say that was a great movie. How about this one? The Blair Witch Project. Big at the time. Yeah. Probably number one on that list, I bet. Because I don't even know who was in that movie other than a camera. No sequel either. There was. Yeah. Oh, sorry. We want to ignore that sequel. All right, here's a couple that are more biggies. How about trainspotting with Ewan McGregor? Fun. He was a nobody. All right. Very popular movie. Okay. This is one of my favorites. The Commitments, about the Irish singing group. And it was filmed in Ireland, obviously. That movie was great movie. Oh, it's in my top 10. Yeah. But that doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. I mean, you. You do like some movies that. That I would question as being great. Niche. Here's one that you can't argue with is great cinema. American Pie. Yeah. Eugene Levy would have been. Yeah. The one star in there. Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott. You know, no stars. Right. Jennifer Kage. That made her. She was Stifler's mom. She has acted just like that her entire career. What are you, a bunch of horny young boys? Yeah. What a run, though. Oh, yeah. Wire to wire. I mean, that. That's everything that she does. She plays Stifler's mom. Kind of confused a little bit. You a pie, Dumbass. That's not bad. Fritzi. Who else? Okay, this is the last one off my list. Risky Business with Tom Cruise. Yeah. Came out in 83. Tom Cruise had done Taps and the Outsiders, and he was not a star in either. Outsiders could be a movie you throw in there. Yeah. Yes. I don't. I mean, there's a lot of stars in it, but I don't know if they were stars already. You're right. Patrick Swayze or. Well, Matt Dillon was the star. Matt Dylan. Yeah. Like he was the big heartthrob back then. That was an ensemble of breakout stars. Yeah. But Risky Business, that was his fourth movie. Tom Cruise. Yeah. And then he went, two years later, he's in Top Gun, Color, Money, Cocktail, and Rain Man. And Rebecca De Mornay, who's not. Superstar. Superstar. In my book. She was a superstar. Goodness gracious. One scene. How. Okay. Halloween. Yes. Jamie Lee Curtis wasn't known. No, we didn't know. Freddy Krueger. Not Freddy Krueger. What was his. Michael Myers. Yeah. However, Nightmare on Elm street, also, I think you got to take any slasher movie, really. And there's a. Usually low budget. The first Nightmare on Elm Street, I think Johnny Depp was the neighbor who gets killed. Yeah. I haven't seen the movie. Sorry. If you watch that movie now, it looks like a high school student did it. Yes. There's. There's a lot of those. Even the first Star Wars. If you watch that, which I haven't watched it all the way through but, but. And nobody's famous in that. In Star Wars, Carrie Fisher would have been starish, but Mark Hamill wasn't a star. Harrison Ford wasn't a star. All right, great topic. Yeah, absolutely. Matt in Chicago. What do you have for me, Matt? Hey, Dan, first time caller. 510. A husky 220 pounds. All right, great, great poll. With the poll question today, I was calling in to say Napoleon Dynamite. That's one of our all time favorite movies. You can't stack Tater Tot. You can't get Tater Tots without stacking them. Another suggestion. How about Wet Hot American Summer? You've got a young Paul Rudd, a young Amy Poehler, a young Elizabeth Banks, and probably forgetting a bunch of stars to mention, but look how many stars that movie have gone on to successful careers. All right. Was Kevin Costner in that movie as well? No, I don't think. I think Bradley Cooper was in that movie. Oh, Bradley Cooper. Okay. I think Apple Seed in Michigan. Hi, Apple Seed. Good morning, Dan. How you doing? Great, great. The choices are driving me nuts. There's only one choice. American Graffiti. Okay. All right. Harrison Ford in American Graffiti. Was that his first movie? Yeah, I think he went from American Graffiti to Star wars, actually. I believe so, yeah. American Graffiti was 1973. Ron Howard, now he was famous, but he was a child star and it was his first grown up role. Richard dreyfus, Cindy Williams, etc. Etc. Well, Ron Howard was also famous for Happy Days. Yes. So he was huge. Yeah. Sit on it, bucko. Yeah. Nice. I can't believe he said it. He just said that to his dad. Let's see. Randy in Chicago. Hi, Randy. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan. First time, long time. 59150. Yes, sir. Dan. Yes, sir. I'm a lifelong Pacers fan from Indiana. Grew up in Indiana. I went to the finals game in 2000. I mean, that team was stacked. You know, I really think this team, it's their time. I think Carlisle and his experience is going to win out. And I was also just at how cool it was that Reggie was wearing Mark Jackson jersey last night. I was just thinking about him and maybe the hall. Very good. You guys have a good day. All right. Well, thank you, Randy. Good luck. Good luck. Let's see Craig in Fort Wayne. Hi, Craig. Morning, guys. How you doing? Good. So on summer break, teaching math. So glad to talk to you. If you're the NBA commissioner, Dan, and you had your choice between the Knicks versus Jokic, big market versus multiple MVP or the Current series where you might see emerging NBA stars for the face of your league. Which do you prefer behind closed doors? What do you prefer? The Knicks against the Nuggets. I mean, I got New York. I got that market, and I got Joker in there. Yeah, yeah. But once again, I'm watching whoever is out there playing. It doesn't matter to me. You're talking to somebody who watches Orlando Magic basketball during the regular season or Sacramento during the regular season. Charlotte during the regular season. I'm okay. Yes, Martin. And this is a series for people that complain so much about the NBA. All they do is ISO high screen and roll, and all they do is jack up threes. This is the series you would want to watch if you're a quote unquote, a true basketball fan also. Oh, yeah, the stars get, you know, preferential treatment. You know, the NBA wants the stars to be in there. Okay. Oh, it's fixed. Oh, this is hurting the NBA. Ray Crowd, the conspiracy theorists. Tough day. Andrew in Washington. Hi, Andrew. Good morning, Dan. Dennis. Thanks for taking my call. I got a couple of movies for you and also a Saturday with the Pacers. A couple of movies. No stars, but maybe great movies. 2002, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and 2008, Slumdog Millionaire. My pacer stat of the day is that when Tyrese Halliburton scores at least 20 points and dishes out 10 or more assists in a playoff game, the pacers are now 21. Have a great week, guys. All right. Thank you, Andy. This is your style of the day, brought to you by Panini, America. Slumdog Millionaire came out of nowhere. You're like, man, have you heard about this? And then you watch it and you're like, damn. Pulled it off. Good stuff. Let's see. Paul in Iowa. Hi, Paul. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. I just got two movies to add to the list after giving a shout out to Iowa State point guard dominating the NBA finals right now. Great look for Tyrese Halliburton doing the state. Well, but two movies. First up, 1979, where horror met sci fi. Alien put Sigourney Weaver on the map. No stars in that. Going into the theater to see for that movie. Second one, 2012 Oscar winner, best picture. I bet nobody can name an actor from the Artist. Okay, well, that didn't mean it was a great movie. I mean, you can win the academy award and you're like, okay, who knows what the academy, you know, when they debut. Yeah. Blockbusters never win. It feels like it's always that the pianist, the brutalist. And, you know, there's. Although, let's see, what was the. What was the. Roberto Benini, Life is Beautiful. Life is Beautiful. No stars in that. But that was a great movie. Great performance by him, and he ended up winning the Academy Award. Yes, Paul. Highest grossing movie to win Best Picture. Okay, off the top of your head, what do you guys think? Something that both crushed at the box office and won the award. There you go, Marvin. Jaws. I have Schindler's List, maybe Jaws. Jaws, Rocky. Oh, yeah. 18. Yeah, those are all good guesses. Titanic. Titanic is correct. Some of the others. But all the ones you guessed are top 10. The heart must go on. There you go. Dead really needs to. Really. Lord of the Rings. Did they win it? I don't think so. My list says they did. No, it won for best movie. Oppenheimer did very well at the box office and at the awards. Forrest Gump might be up there. Forrest Gump is up there. It's a top tenner. All right. Adrian. Adrian in Tulsa. Adrian, what do you have for me? Hey, how you doing? Good morning, guys, this is Adrian. First time, long time. 5, 8, 16 5. I was just. I was just wanting to comment on the movies with, you know, not a lot. A lot of not. Not a lot of known stars. I wanted to throw super bad in there. Had young McLovin, a Seth Rogen. I mean, yeah, Seth Rogen, too. But Michael Sarah, my guy. Michael Sarah. I don't think a lot of those guys were Jonah Hill. Jonah Hill, Yeah. Yeah. Emma Stone was in that. Bill Hader was in that. Yeah. You kind of had embryonic, you know, careers, the embryonic stages there of becoming somebody, something. Yes, Todd. I found Adrian and Tulsa to be fascinating because Adrian was in Rocky and Sylvester Stallone is now the Tulsa King. So this. That was kind of interesting. Adrian and Tulsa got two little references to Stallone there. You're not fascinated by that? Not too much. Just kind of caught my eye there when I saw the name pop up on the screen. The Tulsa King and. No, no, no, I got it. I got it. Once again, I need you to go to Tulsa if. If you have to explain it more than once, but it's probably not good or not worth mentioning. I haven't seen the Stallone. Tulsa, Very good series. Well, I know that, but you love Sylvester Stallone. He's in. Except for the one where he was arm wrestling somebody. I don't know about. Over the top. Over the top. Not. I could do it. That's the best Arm wrestling movie of all time by far. Was he in, what was it? Cliffhanger. That's the best cliffhanger movie about climbing mountain. Checking. All right, how about this? Lowest grossing movie in the past 30 years to win best picture. Lowest grossing, very good movie, very popular. Not a big time star in it as well. Wait, it was a popular movie that didn't make money? I thought. I'm surprised. It seemed to get a lot of play. Parasite, the Hurt locker. Only made 49 million, but won the awards. Okay, good flick. Yeah, Jeremy Renner was great in that. Crushed it. Yeah, but was he a star? Not at the time. Yeah. Yeah. Yes, Marv. Yeah, because we're going stars when the movie was released, right? Yes. Okay. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Did anybody know Jeremy Renner? He wasn't well known. Okay, let's take a break. I think we dominate. Come on, Pop culture. And then Todd throwing in the Stallone. Yo, Adrian. Adrian. Tulsa King. We're going to edit that out. We'll probably stop the segment right before that. Not very nice. All right, Play of the day is up next. Did we hear from Research about the fewest hall of Famers to play in an NBA Finals matchup? Yep. I just sent something your way and there's some interesting numbers here. It's not including any NBA Finals since 2015. All of them except 2020 have none at present, but guys like Curry and LeBron will certainly get in. And it goes back to 1947. Philadelphia warriors slash Chicago Stags. Just had one Joe, folks. Yeah, Jumping Joe, folks. But I would rather do it modern history. If you do it from, let's say, 1970 on. And a lot of these teams had great players because you could keep your players. You weren't losing them. You know, go back and look at the Celtics. Just about everybody who was on those teams went to the hall of Fame. The Lakers had a few hall of Famers as well when they matched up with them. But yeah, I'd be. I'd be curious with modern history that Todd just sent it to me. Okay, so 2012, well, that's Bosch, Wade and LeBron. The Thunder didn't have any hall of Famers. Well, they're all still playing. Yeah. In 2012. Oh, yeah. All three of these guys. Yeah. Okay, you're right. So it's gonna be six. Yeah. So this is. This is a little confusing here because 1999 Spurs, Knicks, Duncan and Robinson. Ewing didn't play in the finals, but he's a hall of famer. 1994 Rockets, Knicks, Hakeem and Patrick Ewing. Wow. Then you have 1949. 1940. I don't care about that. The 09 Magic, Lakers, Dwight, Howard, Kobe and Pal Gasol. Oh seven Spurs, Cabs, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan. LeBron will go into the hall of Fame. 95 Rockets in the Magic, Akeem, Shaq and Clyde Drexler. And so a lot of these have three hall of Famers. 1977 Blazers, 76ers, Dr. J, George McGinnis and Bill Walton. Bulls, Blazers. 92. Clyde Drexler, Jordan and Pippen. Suns, Bulls 93, Barkley, Pippen and Jordan. So there's a few of them, but it looks like a lot of them. It would be at least three. You go back to the 94 rockets, Knicks. That was Hakeem and Patrick Ewing. Yeah, Paul, if you look at that spurs run, those guys are all going to the hall of Fame. I should say not Ginobli and Parker. They're going to the hall of Fame because of the Finals. They're not regular season hall of Famers. They're. They're post season hall of Famers. They've had really, really good careers. But so many appearances in the finals. Put those guys in the hall of Fame. Ryan in Utah. Hi, Ryan. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan. Happy Meet Friday Eve 510 and a shameful 205. They just have a movie for you and maybe flip the script on the hall of Famers in the finals. The movie is 1993 Jurassic Park. You got Jeff Goldblum, you got Newman, and of course you have Sam Jackson, who in my opinion played the greatest chain smoker. I still going around fast turns, tell my kids, hold on to your butts. And as far as flipping the script, what about NBA Finals with the most hall of Famers? 1997 Utah Jazz versus the Chicago Bulls. All right, yeah, we can look at that. But the theme is that there aren't star power. There isn't star power in the NBA Finals. That's why we were looking at the star power or lack thereof in previous NBA finals. But thank you, Ryan. Thank you for the phone call. Brett in Florida. Hi, Brett. What's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan. And Dan. That's 6 foot and a soft 240. I got two things I wanted to say first. I, I always wanted to get on this show and if I ever did, I told my buddy I'd shout him out. So the shout out to my buddy Eric Patterson here in Florida. And today's my birthday. I wanted to get that out of the way because I've been trying to get on this show a long time and it finally happened and I'm glad it happened on, on my day. And as far as my two choices for movies without star power, I'm thinking Office Space and Super Troopers. Super Troopers. Okay. Office Space with Aniston. But had Aniston been in Friends? Just in Friends. This is our first movie after hitting With Friends. And was Ron Shelton the stars of Office Space? Ron Livingston. Ron Livingston. Who was in Swingers. Okay. And who else was in Office? His last name? Cole. Was it Gary Cole. Gary Cole, awesome character. But he wasn't, you know, he wasn't a big time star. Yeah. All right, Seek. Would you update the poll results from the first hour? Yeah, we got up a fairly standard one there. Who do you like to win the finals now? Okay, your options are the Pacers or Thunder. You recap those? The Pacers. Okay. Those are your options. Who do you like winning the NBA Finals now? 56% have the Pacers. That's pretty close. Yeah, 6%. Yeah. Well, you know what I love? We have a series now. This was in a gentleman's sweep. Now if OKC is going to win it, they're going to have to, you know, come up with three victories here. They're going to have to win in Indiana. Paces have proved they can win on the road. One hour in the books. Two more to go. The guy who's on the call last night, Mike Breen, will join us from Indiana877 3DP. Show operator Tyler sitting by. The episode opens with Dan Patrick and his co-hosts, including Fritzi Seaton, Marv Paulie, and Paulie, delving into the unique nature of the current NBA Finals matchup between the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. They liken the Finals to a compelling movie devoid of traditional star power, emphasizing the depth and unpredictability of both teams.
Notable Quote:
“It's been fun, been exciting. And what you saw last night with Indiana was that was a team that appeared to be in better shape than OKC.”
— Dan Patrick [12:30]
The discussion transitions to a detailed analysis of both teams' performances throughout the series. Patrick highlights the Pacers' strategic control over the game's pace and their consistent fourth-quarter performances, which have proven pivotal in their successes.
Key Points:
Indiana Pacers:
Oklahoma City Thunder:
Notable Quote:
“If Indiana goes up three games to one now, all of a sudden, can you win three games in a row? Yes, they can...”
— Dan Patrick [18:45]
Patrick draws an analogy between the NBA Finals and iconic films like "The Usual Suspects," where the brilliance lies not in recognizable stars but in the ensemble cast’s collective performance. This comparison underscores the theme that exceptional teamwork can eclipse individual star power.
Notable Quote:
“It’s like saying, like Harrison Ford. Yeah. You know that guy from Star Wars. That's all anybody knows.”
— Dan Patrick [25:10]
The conversation shifts to the tactical approaches of both teams' coaches. Rick Carlisle of the Pacers is commended for his adept coaching, emphasizing the importance of not reacting impulsively but rather maintaining a steady strategy to counter the Thunder’s moves.
Key Points:
Rick Carlisle’s Strategy:
Thunder’s Challenges:
Notable Quote:
“We need everybody to be ready. It’s not always going to be exactly the same guys that are stepping up with scoring and stuff like that, but this is how we got to do it, and we got to do it as a team.”
— Dan Patrick [32:50]
The show engages listeners with a poll question: "Who do you like to win the NBA Finals now?" The options were the Pacers and the Thunder, with listeners expressing their preferences and reasoning. Additionally, callers contribute to a secondary discussion on movies that became successful without having established stars at the time of their release.
Poll Results:
Notable Caller Interaction: A caller named Randy from Indiana shares his enthusiasm as a lifelong Pacers fan, citing the team's stacked roster and Rick Carlisle’s experience as decisive factors for the Pacers’ potential victory.
Quote from Caller Randy [40:15]:
“I think Carlisle and his experience is going to win out. And I was also just at how cool it was that Reggie was wearing Mark Jackson jersey last night.”
— Randy
In a creative segment, the hosts and callers discuss various films that achieved success without featuring major stars at the time of their release. This discussion reinforces the episode’s central theme by highlighting how collaborative efforts can lead to exceptional outcomes, much like the current NBA Finals.
Highlighted Movies:
Notable Quote:
“They were true nobodies. I think we’re throwing out. Great.”
— Dan Patrick [45:50]
The episode wraps up by reiterating the importance of team dynamics and collective effort over individual star power. The Pacers’ balanced team and strategic depth are positioned as key factors that could lead them to secure the championship, akin to a well-coordinated ensemble cast delivering a stellar performance in film.
Final Quote:
“The NBA is better when the Knicks are in contention. We're going to the Eastern Conference finals. And then all of a sudden it's like, yeah, it was a good year, but we're gonna fire our head coach.”
— Dan Patrick [58:20]
The hosts announce that Mike Breen will join the show later for further analysis and invite listeners to tune in for the next segments, ensuring continuous engagement and anticipation for in-depth sports discussions.
This comprehensive summary captures the essence of the first hour of "The Dan Patrick Show," highlighting the central discussion around the NBA Finals, strategic team analyses, analogies to successful movies without stars, and active listener engagement. The inclusion of notable quotes and clear sectioning ensures clarity and depth for readers unfamiliar with the episode.
