We did it. We made it to a Friday here in Pittsburgh. Another great audience here by the way. Pittsburgh last night. Wonderful, wonderful performance by the entire city. The weather was great. Over 300,000 showing up. I remember Bill Cower when he was with me yesterday and we went to commercial break and he goes, gosh, I hope some people show up. I said, bill, they will 300,000 last night, give or take a couple of thousand. And I think that stadium seats just over 60,000. So you had five times the amount of people that you can put in that stadium. Weather was great, the atmosphere was great. And we got a little bit of a twist there in the first round. We'll talk about that with the Rams with Ty Simpson coming up, broadcasting from the distillery complex in Pittsburgh. All week long, thank you for wonderful hospitality here. Great food, cocktails, cigar lounge. And you know, this is where you separate your clothes when you get ready to go home. It's like that's the cigar clothes and then that's the regular clothes, and you try to separate those in your suitcase. But it's been a great atmosphere here, great environment.

All of our guests this week receive

gift bags provided by rec tech, Panini Pinsky and dude wipes. Our stat of the day is always brought to you by panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show.
Dan Patrick
It is a meat Friday. It was a meat Thursday.
Marv Albert
It was a meat Wednesday. Thanks to our folks at rec tech and all of the meat provided by heartland steak coast. So we have spiced maple bacon candy. We have seared porterhouse steaks with garlic tallow. No, no, no, not yet. Not yet. Tallow is what, Paulie?
Paulie
It's like a bougie butter. It's kind of a bone marrow butter. Hy. It's really, really good.
Marv Albert
Okay. Tallow, garlic tallow, peach glazed grilled bone in pork chops.
Paulie
Well, that's your thing.
Marv Albert
Yeah, it is. Smoked wagu brisket. Who has it better than we do?
Stugotz
Nobody.
Marv Albert
Oh, man.
Dan Patrick
And everybody here, you get to taste
Marv Albert
all of the things that they're going to make on the rec tech after the show. 877 3DP. Show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls because he doesn't do anything else around the place. And first hour brought to you by rec tech recteq.com you got more heat, more consistent temperature, more stainless steel.
Dan Patrick
And you can sear.
Marv Albert
You know, these go up to 1200 degrees. Great partner. Rec Tech rec T E Q play of the day, poll question stat of the day. All of that forthcoming got the minister
Dan Patrick
of humor, Fritzi is here.
Marv Albert
Got a rhyme time coming up a little bit later on we do with a Pittsburgh theme. Okay. Give the audience an idea of what rhyme time consists of.
Todd
Okay. So rhyme time. There's two clues and then the two. The answer to those two clues actually rhyme with one another.
Marv Albert
Okay.
Todd
Rhyme time.
Marv Albert
Okay.
Todd
Like an example would be Particular pig skin head. Particular pig skin head or coach to try to make it a little easier. If someone is particular, they would be choosy. And that pigskin head locally at a university. So a little time. I can't make them easy. I can't just hand you the answers. So choosy. Narduzzi.
Paulie
That's a tough one.
Todd
Particular pigskin.
Marv Albert
Okay, give me a better one so the audience will care.
Todd
That's fine. That's fair.
Marv Albert
Like, you don't lead with a real tough one.
Dan Patrick
That's like Jeopardy.
Marv Albert
Doesn't give you the toughest questions.
Todd
Right? You gotta go to 1200. Okay. How about paddle boat, Dandruff, Fighting stealer. Paddle boat dandruff, Fighting stealer.
Marv Albert
So something Palomalu, right?
Todd
Like a paddle boat. What took a little boat? You're a big boat. Main person. Name a type of little boat that you can get in and paddle.
Paulie
Paul Pontoon.
Todd
What rhymes with Palomalu? That would be a rowboat. You've never been in a canoe? Canoe Palomalu. You know, help me out here.
Marv Albert
We're off to a slow start.
Todd
What is that really a bad clue, a paddleboat being a canoe?
Marv Albert
We're trying to attract an audience.
Todd
I think you guys are purposely playing dumb to make this, like, just ruin this for me.
Marv Albert
No, no, I'm not playing dumb.
Todd
Canoe Palomalu. Now I got to give you a third one.
Marv Albert
Do they even rhyme?
Todd
Blaze Rocky. Think local. Flavor local. Think Pittsburgh. Blaze Rocky.
Marv Albert
Fire.
Todd
Fire Blyer. There you go. You're not helping me sell this at all.
Marv Albert
And now, hold on. Let me. Let me let the audience. More of that coming up a little bit later on Canoe Paloma.
Todd
You guys got to work with me a little more.
Marv Albert
All right, Dylan is here. Got a Ravens hat on. Nobody's taking a shot at you this week, have they?
Dylan
There you go. Just orally.
Marv Albert
Orally.
Dylan
Verbally.
Marv Albert
Okay. Okay. Thank you for clarifying that.
Louis Riddick
You're welcome.
Marv Albert
Pittsburgh. They're really nice people. They're not that nice.
Louis Riddick
They're not quite that nice.
Dan Patrick
Paulie is here.
Marv Albert
Marvin's here, yours truly, and of course, the backroom guys as well. A lot to kind of decipher here. We'll talk to Lewis Riddick, who was on the draft coverage last night. He played his football at Pitt. He'll join us coming up. Tom Pelissero, NFL Network. Matt Miller, the draft expert from the mothership, as well. Some of the highlights.
Dan Patrick
It's weird to.
Marv Albert
I felt bad for Jeremiah Love, and it's weird to feel bad for him, he's going to make more guaranteed money than any other running back in history at over $50 million. But he's going to Arizona. And I thought it was maybe malpractice because once again, you're getting a guy who is great. He's my favorite player in the draft. But you're going to a team that doesn't have a quarterback. I don't know if they have much of an offensive line. McBride is good. You got Marvin Harrison Jr. The third, and now you get Jeremiah Love. Now, you got building blocks there. But I thought that Jeremiah Love, somebody was going to go get him. He's expensive for a running back, but he goes third to the Cardinals. The Ty Simpson situation. I want to take you back to yesterday morning. This was probably 12 minutes before the show. Paulie goes, oh, do you see? Glazer was on barstool. And Glaser said, hey, there might be something happening in the draft, a big surprise. And I'm paraphrasing. He said, why don't you reach out to him? I said, okay. So I text Jay and I said, are you up? Because it was West Coast. I said, are you up? He said, yeah. And I said, hey, what's going on with the possibility in the first round? Can you give me any kind of breadcrumbs here? And he said, it, you know, it's blown out of proportion. It's not going to be like Travis Hunter the year before where there's a big trade between Jacksonville and Cleveland. So then at the very end, I go, hey, what are the Rams doing? And he said, oh, the Jeremiah Love thing is a smokescreen. And I go, I wasn't asking about Jeremiah Love. I said, I think they're taking Ty Simpson at the end of the first round. So there's a pause, and he goes, I don't know. What do you think? And I'm thinking, you're the insider. Why are you asking me this? So I said, I just think they're. They're going to get somebody and then they'll get somebody at the end of the first round. So you get somebody now. You get somebody maybe who's going to be in the on deck circle for Matthew Stafford. We see the Rams, they take Ty Simpson, 13th pick.
Dan Patrick
And all of a sudden I get
Marv Albert
this text from Glazer. He goes, I was so. And then he put s o o o o o o o Worried that you heard something about the Rams taking Ty Simpson? I hadn't heard anything. I just thought they're probably going to come up and get him.
Dan Patrick
And it turns out that that was
Marv Albert
his big scoopage that Simpson was going 13th overall. He might be the right guy. Was just the wrong time. My thought was if you get him in the end of the first round. Now I've, I've tried to find this out this morning and I haven't gotten. And maybe Tom Petalcero or Louis Riddick can help me. But it felt like they knew somebody was going to take Ty Simpson a whole lot earlier than anybody else thought. I don't know if it was Pittsburgh. I don't know if the jets would have come back up. The Cardinals, somebody. From what I'm trying to gleaned, some information is they had to go up and get him at 13. But until you know, we have our insiders on there, I don't know that for a fact. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
So the big debate here is the Rams are our current super bowl contender.
Marv Albert
I got the best. They have the best odds this morning from DraftKings, right. To win the Super Bowl.
Paulie
And with the 13th pick, Sean McVeigh obviously wants another weapon for next year. Last year the 13th pick was Tyler Warren, the tight end out of Penn State. He had like 80 catches in 800 yards. There's impact players available at 13.
Marv Albert
I got DraftKings. The Rams are the favorite to win the super bowl, followed by the Seahawks. Then it's the Bills and Ravens, Chiefs, Niners, Patriots, Chargers, packers and the Lions. I don't know what impact these draft picks had yesterday. I do like what Seattle did. They got Jadarian Price. He was the other running back at Notre Dame. Can you find out, has there ever been a first round pick who never started a game in his college career? Because I don't think this running back started a game for Notre Dame, but I think they got a great pick because Kenneth Walker goes to Kansas City. You pick him up and I think that's a great pick for him because
Dan Patrick
he was a he.
Marv Albert
That'd be one of those, you know, when you would have love go out of the game and Price come in and there was no let up there for Notre Dame. But I don't think he started a game. But I can't remember a first round draft pick who didn't start a game. All right, Dylan, what's the poll question for the first hour of the program?
Dylan
We got a couple options, Dan. I have one from Todd. Per usual, I will read it without any changes. The most awkward moment of the NFL draft was an increasingly sweaty Roger Goodell extended commissioner hugs of selected players. You don't know me like that. Fernando Mendoza accidentally leaving his little brother Max hanging for a handshake.
Marv Albert
Okay. I thought that that was like a
Dan Patrick
corporate, off site meeting.
Marv Albert
When I saw Fernando Mendoza and his family. A lot of blazers, awkward white guys shaking hands. And, you know, you'd have. And his little brother kept.
Dan Patrick
He had his hand out for his
Marv Albert
brother, and his brother totally blew him off. And you're just like, hey, high five. And then it'd be like, dad, but
Dan Patrick
somebody's trying to shake your hand.
Marv Albert
And I was like. And, you know, you get up and you start hugging each other. You're in the same room for the last hour. You don't need to introduce yourself to the people you've been sitting there with for an hour now. Just like. Okay. Yeah. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
I thought the Mendoza family did a good job acting like they were surprised that their. Their brother went number one in the draft. They're all jumping around, and then they're pulling Raiders hats from the cushions to the couch. Not a big surprise.
Marv Albert
Yeah.
Dylan
With like, a news crew there.
Marv Albert
Yes, Marvin.
Stugotz
Roger Goodell, he's been perfecting his dap with the players because it's an easy slap hug. Now, there could be a cultural divide sometimes with an older white man and younger black people, but now it was slap hug. There's no. He's been working on that.
Marv Albert
Yeah.
Stugotz
So good for him. I mean, but he was sweating, like,
Paulie
brother love in the wwe, our handshakes over crisp handshakes.
Marv Albert
Because yesterday we had a member of the audience.
Paulie
We got a picture afterwards.
Marv Albert
African American gentleman who came up and he gave me a handshake.
Stugotz
Gave you a job interview.
Marv Albert
Handshake, handshake came to you. Marvin. Man, he started.
Louis Riddick
Yeah.
Marv Albert
Like, he was all over you. Like, it was a honeymoon.
Stugotz
It was like the key and Peele speech.
Marv Albert
Yes.
Stugotz
The skit.
Marv Albert
Yes.
Stugotz
Where everyone, you know, handshake, handshake. How are you? Good to meet you, Marvin. Happy Black History Month, brother.
Louis Riddick
Yeah.
Stugotz
James of Virginia.
Marv Albert
Yeah. Yes, Dylan.
Dylan
I guess we could do the poll question. If you go in for a handshake, are you doing the classic handshake, A quick dap. A fist bump, the dap hug. Because I get this wrong about 90% of the time.
Marv Albert
I think you just got to be
Dan Patrick
committed right away, whatever it is.
Marv Albert
Like, I put the hand out, but I'm more of a dap guy now. I'm like, all right, we don't need to bring it in and any of that stuff. The commissioner does seem a little overly commissioner like it's just like buddy, you know, he gets excited there. Yes, Todd.
Todd
I think it also depends on the age of the person. Like a handshake is universally accepted, even if it's starting to die out like the dinosaurs. But if like some 75 year old woman comes over to you, like if we're meeting someone here for a meet and greet, you know, daps would seem like a kind of a weird thing that someone that might be someone's grandmother.
Louis Riddick
You got to dap them up.
Marv Albert
Well, thank you, Todd. It seems you, you're the king of.
Todd
I know, hugging and awkwardness.
Marv Albert
Hugging.
Todd
Yeah.
Louis Riddick
Yeah.
Todd
I, I will meet someone for the first time and I'll bring it in. That's. I was brought up that way. Not. They don't. You don't want to get arrested or anything, but not, not to the point where they're calling 91 1. But just, you know, I just like to show people affection and sometimes it comes across as inappropriate, which is not the intention.
Marv Albert
Yes, Paul.
Paulie
I don't know if it's on Fritzi's poll of awkward moments, but Kaden Proctor, the offensive tackle of Alabama when he got drafted by Miami, nobody said anything nice about the guy. They didn't say like, he's a great player. Mel Kuiper said, career underachiever, still waiting for him to pan out. Nick Saban, this guy used to play underneath him and he was less than complimentary.
Marv Albert
It was weird that you're trying to say something. It's almost like it feels like a must lie situation where you want to say something and then when your compliment is, he's huge. Okay, what else? He's huge. And I go, okay. And then all of a sudden you're hearing Mel say something. Nick Saban saying something. And they're saying, you know, he's really got to apply himself and, you know, keep his weight down. I think was another comment. Yes, Todd, it's tough when they show
Todd
offensive lineman highlights in general and they put like the little arrow or the little light on that person and I know they're doing something significant. But for someone that doesn't play football or it's certainly not offensive line, it doesn't look like anything that exciting. You're that big, you should be able to push them backwards for a couple of seconds so the running back can go through.
Marv Albert
Thank you, Todd.
Todd
Welcome.
Marv Albert
The Cowboys got Caleb Downs. He seemed pretty excited. Felt like that was. Do you want to talk about an intelligent football player? A great football player, played at Alabama, played at Ohio State and Dallas Went to get him. And I think that was a great pick. As much as we bang on the Cowboys, and there's a lot of reason to do that. They've drafted pretty well. They've had some pretty good draft picks here, but, you know, the big headliner was Simpson going to the Rams. All righty. Any other poll questions there for the first hour?
Dylan
Paulie sent me one, which is just.
Marv Albert
You seem like you got roughed up last night.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dylan
I was actually. I was going to address this. So we were here watching the draft, and it was pretty loud in here, so I was. It was either talking over people or the three cigars that I smoked.
Marv Albert
You didn't look like you were banged up last night. I wasn't, but you look banged up today.
Dylan
I wasn't drinking this morning.
Paulie
Baby steps.
Marv Albert
Okay. All right. But. But you're okay?
Dylan
No, I feel good. It's just my voice is a little hoarse.
Marv Albert
Okay.
Dylan
I only smoke three cigars.
Marv Albert
Yes. John.
Todd
I don't want to get too personal, but I kind of like the raspy to me more thing. We're getting a little close.
Marv Albert
What did you do last night?
Todd
I went to Hamburger Harry's or whatever
Louis Riddick
the place is called.
Todd
Touchdown. Touchdown.
Louis Riddick
Jesus. What was it called?
Todd
Home Run Harry's. And I got a turkey club and a side of chicken tender. It's a good thing. I got two things.
Dylan
Side of chicken.
Paulie
It's not a side. It's a separate. It's a separate entree.
Todd
Some people get French fries. I got like. And chicken tender. But there was. The order was. It was fine. It was serviceable. But I was expecting, like, you know, when I go, like, to New York to get a big corned beef sandwich.
Marv Albert
Where did you watch the draft?
Todd
I watched the draft in the comfort of room seven, now that I checked.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd
Room seven.
Stugotz
No one's going there.
Marv Albert
Nobody's going to your room.
Todd
Well, now that I've checked out, just
Dylan
in case you don't know, I knew that yesterday.
Todd
There's no stalkers, but 7:17 in the Sheraton right there. The Sheraton Square station.
Marv Albert
You were there by yourself?
Todd
I was. And I really enjoyed. I enjoyed my time.
Marv Albert
Whoever's in that room next is in for a rude treat.
Todd
I had my Broncos little Zubaz pants on and a little softball shirt. I put the TV on. I had my. My hot. My honey mustard for the tenders, a little mayo for the turkey club, and I was good to go. I was fine.
Marv Albert
Nobody embraces the city of Pittsburgh quite like you do.
Todd
I went for A long walk on Tuesday after our rehearsal and everything. And then the other days, I just. We went out for dinner. I was sociable, right. We went into Tuesday night and Wednesday night. But at the last night, I wasn't in the mood for anybody. Honesty.
Marv Albert
We had a draft party last night.
Todd
I heard that you guys may be coming here for something, but I'm not a cigar smoker. And it gets in my face and my eyes stop burning. I'm like, you know what? I'm going to just watch it under the covers. I was in bed there, like at
Marv Albert
8:17 under the covers.
Todd
I think definitely by 8:30. By pick six. Whoever had the six pick. I was definitely under the covers. I got hot and I took the
Marv Albert
COVID There are children here. So you.
Todd
You were under the COVID I was very comfortable.
Marv Albert
Okay.
Todd
I had my bronco onesie on.
Marv Albert
All right, here we go. You are so, by the way, the Todd cast. If you ever want to know more about Todd and why Todd is Todd the toddcast@danpatrick.com that's my mother's fault.
Todd
We know that.
Marv Albert
It is your mother's fault.
Todd
At 56, I said, some point, you got to take responsibility for your own behavior.
Stugotz
It's very easy.
Todd
A lot of people do that. My mom screwed me up. A lot of people do that when they talk to their psychiatrists. But at some point, you're like, you know what? I'm an adult, and whatever I do, that's on me.
Marv Albert
Now, this is Friday. Fritzi, I'm going to put you on a word count today. Okay?
Todd
That's fair.
Marv Albert
I'm going to have to do that. All right, so we're going to have to have a word count for each hour.
Todd
Are you saying I tend to ramble a little bit? I don't get to the point. What do we say?
Marv Albert
Land the plane, Todd. Land the plane.
Todd
Back to you.
Marv Albert
How about we take a break?
Todd
That is a Dan Patrick show.

Paulie
What did they do before was there?
Dan Patrick
I don't know. It was probably pretty rough. Miller Time is always a good time. Clean, crisp, easy to drink. Especially when it's, well, nighttime. And as it goes on, you're watching the draft.
Marv Albert
It's Miller Time. That's why I reach for a Miller Light.

Yeah. Relax.
Dan Patrick
Prostate cancer screening starts with a simple finger free blood test. Around one in eight men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. But that's no reason to re clench when caught early. At localized or even regional stages, prostate cancer can have over a 99% five year relative survival rate. Did your tight end just relax?

Nobody really prepares you for this part of life. When I had some guests stay with me recently, I realized I was missing a few key essentials. I hate when that happens. Really? No more paper towels. Down to the last pigs in a blanket. So soon? I didn't want to interrupt our time together by running to the store or give off the impression that I was unprepared for my guests. Moments like that are a perfect example of how everyday life can surprise you. Some days go as planned and other days, well, life throws curve balls. It's not always convenient. That's why I went straight to Amazon. Amazon helps make it easier to manage both the routine and the unexpected. From household basics to last minute replacements you like to have on hand to be a great host, Amazon makes it so you can find everything that you need all in one place with reliable value and great prices. So when you run out of essentials right when the party's about to start, Amazon makes it easier to focus on your guests. Talk about saving the day.
Marv Albert
Great crowd here in Pittsburgh. Sun's out. You got day two of the draft coming up tonight. Wonderful performance by the city. Stat of the day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. I asked the question. It wasn't a rhetorical. I didn't know the answer because Jadarian Price goes to Seattle, first round pick, but I don't think he had a career start at Notre Dame. And I was wondering, when's the last time we had a player without maybe a career start? Did Josh Jacobs start at Alabama?
Paulie
He was mostly a backup. Harris. Damien Harris, yeah.
Marv Albert
So I don't know. But Josh Jacobs was the first round pick, wasn't he?
Paulie
The other one, I would say, is Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams at Auburn. Cadillac Williams got most of the carries. Ronnie Brown was a first rounder, I think, and he had much fewer carries.
Marv Albert
Yeah, Big day. Ray just sent me a note. Josh Jacobs got playing time. He was the backup to Damien Harris. He had under 700 yards rushing. Final year at Alabama. Selected 24th by the Raiders. But I don't know, it was just one of those weird stats or facts that. Here's a backup running back going in the first round to Seattle, Louis Riddick of the Mothership. He covers the NFL and college football. Former front office executive with Washington and Philadelphia. Please welcome our good buddy, Louis Riddick.
Louis Riddick
What's up, guys? How are you? Nice to see you. Dan Patrick. How are you, sir? Let me throw this down here. How about that? Hail to pit.
Marv Albert
All right. Look at you. Got all kinds of gear. You came in looking like Shaft. You know what?
Louis Riddick
I figured I didn't want to wear my typical Lululemon. And you know, I, I said, you know what? For my guy, dp, I'm here in my city, okay? Here where the, you know, where I spent some really good years.
Marv Albert
Got your leather jacket.
Todd
You know what?
Louis Riddick
This, this is one of my. You know, I bought this at an airport, right? I bought this at the Newark Airport. They had, they, they, they've opened, they opened some high end, like, shops. There was like a boss. A boss clothing store. And I was in there like 6:30 in the morning. They were just pulling the, the gates up and I was like, give me that coat. And the guy was like, we're not open. I was like, give me that coat. And I bought it.
Marv Albert
Yeah, now.
Louis Riddick
And now my wife Dec. Like, you wear that thing everywhere.
Marv Albert
Yes. Marvin.
Louis Riddick
Yeah.
Stugotz
You look like you could have been in Jodeci.
Louis Riddick
You never know, man. With this bald head and stuff. Yeah, I am dating myself a little bit.
Marv Albert
How you feeling? Good.
Louis Riddick
Just tired. You know, it's, it's. There's so much emotion from last night. I mean, that crowd was ridiculous. 300,000 people. I mean, are you kidding me? You work so long, Dan, to get ready for this, you know, you, you basically, it's something that I started doing back in September. And then the night comes and goes so fast, but you're so locked in for three, four hours that you, when you get back to your hotel, I mean, you're just exhausted. And I just. I mean, I took a shower, fell right asleep. And today's even longer. But this is. The draft is one of the coolest things that the NFL's got going.
Marv Albert
All right. How surprised? Where did your surprise begin?
Louis Riddick
Oh, man. I think surprise wise, and I think there's no question the Ty Simpson pick probably caught everyone off guard. It did not, to be honest with you, catch me off guard. I talked to his father. January, February, and he was trying to decide if he wanted to go back to school because Miami wanted him to hit the transfer portal and come down the Coral Gables.
Marv Albert
Yeah. Six and a half million dollars.
Louis Riddick
And he was told at the time, he was like, hey, man, you need. Your son needs to declare he's going to go in the first round. And he stuck to it. And the team that, quite honestly, really liked him the most picked it.
Marv Albert
Yeah, but I can like the player. I don't like the pick. I don't like taking him that high.
Louis Riddick
Yeah.
Marv Albert
I want to know. There had to be some intel. And this felt. This is a less sne draft pick. This is the. Because if I looked at the body language of Sean, a lot of people
Louis Riddick
have been looking at that.
Marv Albert
That didn't, didn't sound.
Louis Riddick
Yeah, it look good. It looked like Sean was sitting there going, you know, I could have used a bunch of other positions other than quarterback, but that's what lesson's job is. Les. Job is to take care of the football team, both short and long term.
Marv Albert
I thought Brable looked more comfortable in front of the microphone than Sean McVeigh did last night.
Louis Riddick
I'm not touching that.
Marv Albert
Somebody.
Louis Riddick
There's a lot going on there.
Marv Albert
Somebody had to want Ty Simpson to go up that high.
Louis Riddick
It was less.
Marv Albert
No, no. What other team?
Louis Riddick
Oh, you know what? I don't necessarily believe that. I, I.
Marv Albert
You don't think if he was there with.
Louis Riddick
No, I think, I think sometimes, from what I was told, Pittsburgh was not going to take him regardless if he was there.
Marv Albert
They needed help on the offensive.
Louis Riddick
Right. They weren't going to take him. They weren't gonna. They, they kind of. I think they felt a little, a little regret over how the Kenny Pickett situation turned out. And they, they knew, like, a lot of the backlash that they got for that pick was that maybe some people didn't think Kenny was a first round pick in the first place. And I don't think they wanted to go through that again. I don't think they wanted to deal with that kind of speculation.
Marv Albert
But the Rams are winning now. I got DraftKings has them with the best odds to win the Super Bowl. Yeah, okay. Jordan Love worked out for the packers, but the, you know, Ty Simpson doesn't help the Rams. If he's helping the Rams, that mean Matthew Stafford got hurt. Yeah, I, I don't understand.
Louis Riddick
But see, there's, you know, here, here's the other thing. And, and I understand, like a first round pick is something that obviously you expect to get immediate return on investment. There's a lot of time left in off season. They can still do things in order to help this football team short term, while at the same time. Now, remember, remember last year before the season started, we didn't know if Matthew was going to play. Who's to say that something couldn't flare up on him in the next three, four. Now we hope we. He's one of my favorite people, so I'm not wishing bad things on him at all. But Les is trying to take care of the future while at the same time feeling as though they've done some great work with the veteran free agency market for them to take both of Kansas City's corners to trade for Trevor Jalen Watson, I mean, they, that was their number one need. Now, I know this offseason they've also, they've also floated around and kind of flirted with trading Devonte because they thought maybe they could be in on the A.J. brown sweepstakes, which he's going in New England. Yeah, but they were trying to get him too. So, yeah, they, they, they've been very, very active.
Marv Albert
But you got. Okay, Dante Adams is 34.
Louis Riddick
Right.
Marv Albert
You had Lemon there, Sadiq there.
Louis Riddick
True, true.
Marv Albert
I mean, you had some weapons there. And Sean loves shiny toys on offense, no doubt.
Louis Riddick
And I think there was probably a lot of real good discussion and probably some heated discussion in that draft room about what they should do. But from what I gather, I think, I think it was Adam who reported it. Somebody did. I don't know if it was Adam or Peter. They said that, that Sean called Matthew before they, before they picked him and told him, look, this is the way we're going to go with it. So I'm sure it's something that's going to need, you know, some massaging, a
Marv Albert
little more respect than the packers did Aaron Rodgers, to say the least. Hey, turn on the draft. We're going to take another quarterback there,
Louis Riddick
to say the least. But you know what? This is the perfect place for Tyson himself.
Marv Albert
I agree.
Louis Riddick
He is going to. I, you know me, man, I, I like to make big declarations because I, I'm kind of a convicted person when I, when I really believe something. He'll have a decades long career in that organization if Sean sticks around and they just can. This is the perfect, perfect, perfect spot for him.
Marv Albert
I was. As weird as this is going to sound, he could have a better career than Fernando Mendoza. That's given the situation.
Louis Riddick
I don't disagree with that. It could happen that way.
Marv Albert
But this is what I thought. And once again, I have no intel on this. It felt like Les Snead is saying, I'm going to be around here for a lot longer than Sean McVeigh is going to be. Sean might be a. Let's give this one more shot and then I'm going to do some TV here. Yeah. Is that fair to say that?
Louis Riddick
Yes. It's, it's funny. Look, see, this is why I love you, man. This is why I love coming on this show. I was just saying that downstairs when I was talking about, I was like that, that's what, that's exactly what it feels like. Like, hey, Sean, I respect you. You're one of the very best and he is. But I have a feeling that, you know, that, that Les feels as though he's entrenched in that organization. And look, the Runway for GMs is obviously is always longer than coaches anyway. Yeah, I mean, Marvin Lewis told me that a long time ago when we were both in Washington and I really was thinking about getting into coaching. He said, stick with front office. He said, this coaching businessman, although he went on and what, coach 13 years for the Bengals? Yeah, but that's exactly what it's probably telling you. Like, he knows that. Hey, him and Stan Kroenke, we're good. You do what you need to do. Sean is without a doubt going to go. Sean. Sean has hall of Fame caliber coaching, you know, acumen. But he's also a dude who you could just kind of, you can see he's got so many people who want him to do so many things. He's not hurting for opportunity.
Marv Albert
Talking to Louis Riddick of the mothership covering the draft last night, help me understand this. It feels like every year you get teams who look at the tape.
Louis Riddick
Yep.
Marv Albert
But then they look at the measurables. So Reuben Bain, when I watched him play in the playoffs last year, was the best Player on the field most of the time, well, he's got short arms and he didn't run a 40, therefore he's going to slide a little bit. I don't understand. Help me understand that the tape doesn't lie, does it?
Louis Riddick
No.
Marv Albert
Okay. Measurables lie or deceive.
Louis Riddick
Measurables give you comfort in the event that the player doesn't work out, that you don't get fired. That's what they do. The draft is about, is really a risk assessment exercise. So for Reuben Bain, right, if you take him inside of the top 10, if he works out, you're a genius. You watch the tape. You know football. Even though there's people going, he's got 30 inch arms. If he ran a 40, he'd probably run about 4, 8, 5. He only weighed 263 pounds at the combine. These guys don't work out in the NFL. But he worked out for you. So you must be pretty damn good at picking players. That's great now. And so you could sit there and pat yourself on the back now. But see, that's not how GMs think they think, what if he doesn't? Because then the owner's going to come to me and go, guys who are this short, that arm length, run that slow, there's a history of them not succeeding in the NFL. Why would you do that? Why would you put our organization at risk knowing what the objective data showed you? You're out of here. That's what happens. People, the higher up in the draft, you go, you want to check every box possible. That in the event that it doesn't work out, you can sit there and go, wasn't me. It's the player. That's why Russell Wilson slid. That's why Aaron Donald slid to 13. Aaron Donald was the best player in that draft by far, by far. But why did he fall? Because he was only 6, undersized, he only had 31 inch arms even though he won every freaking award in college football. And right now is maybe it's going to go down as maybe one of the top two defensive players in the history of football. But they didn't want to take him that hot. And that's why. Because in the event that you're wrong, you want to be able to say, it wasn't me.
Marv Albert
Give me the draft strategy that you didn't like.
Louis Riddick
Strategy. I don't, I don't think there was.
Marv Albert
You're okay with the Cardinals taking Jeremiah Love?
Louis Riddick
Yeah, I, you know why? And I knew you were going to go there When I was sitting here running this through my head, simply because I don't. I've had so many coaches, and it started with James Franklin, like, two years ago when I was out at the. We were down at the Peach bowl, and they were playing Ole Miss, and I was talking to them about team construction, and I was like, what's the number one thing? What's the most important thing in team construction right now? When you're talking about building rosters, whether it's in college or pros, what is it? He goes, offensively, I don't care where I get it. I need explosive plays. He goes, it's too hard to drive the football. Eight, nine, ten, ten plays a drive, and. And to get points, whether it's college football, high school pros, I need guys who can win games. If we stink up the joint for 59 minutes of a game, a guy who can win it on one play. I was like, where do you care where it comes from? Because I don't care. Just give me a weapon. That's what Jeremiah Love is.
Marv Albert
No, I love him, but I don't like the quarterbacking situation. I don't know about the offensive line. It's kind of like Ashton Genti with the Raiders wasn't a good offensive line, that's didn't have a quarterback. And I don't know if he's a. You know, like, there's a.
Louis Riddick
There's a couple. Yeah, you know what? And I. And I like that. Ashton and Jeremiah are totally different, though.
Marv Albert
Oh, I. He's my favorite player in the draft.
Louis Riddick
And here's the other thing, too. The situation in Vegas was just messed up. You know, Chip Kelly, Pete Carroll. It wasn't gonna work. It just wasn't. John Did. They didn't do a good job of building that offense. Monty Austin Ford has a lot of work to do. But you know what else Jeremiah Love's gonna do? He's gonna, like, make that fan base go, look, we need to go to the games. We need to buy some gear.
Dan Patrick
But I want to see greatness.
Marv Albert
It's.
Dan Patrick
It's like, you go, hey, there's Giselle.
Marv Albert
But she's wearing a burqa. Like, I want to. I want.
Louis Riddick
You know what?
Dan Patrick
I want to see her.
Louis Riddick
But I mean, look, a lot of people had mocked guys like CC Maui Noah, tackle from Miami to that spot. You think anybody's coming to the State Farm Stadium to see CC Maui Noah? They're going. They're not going there. They're like, who cares? They're going to Go Jeremiah Love. I'm buying that jersey. I want to see what this kid looks like. And as we all know, it's a business too.
Marv Albert
I know.
Louis Riddick
And that's. Hey, I love the kid. I love him. I think he's going to. They'll get it right there, I think.
Marv Albert
Okay, give me the big. You guys had to be hoping Ty Simpson fell into round two and you could have had a Shador Sanders situation. Right?
Louis Riddick
I had enough of that last year. Arguing with Mel. No, I actually, I, I wanted it to happen just like it did because now we're going to talk about it again today. There's some good players who are still on this board already.
Marv Albert
Give me three players that you go remember these players when I come on
Louis Riddick
next year for that that were drafted last night. No, you mean that'll be drafted today?
Marv Albert
Yeah.
Louis Riddick
Okay. Let's see. Denzel Boston, the wide receiver from Washington. He is. If you remember Marcus Colson when he was in New Orleans. That's what he is. But he's maybe even bigger and faster than that. Trading stooks to safety from Arizona. This is a guy who most people go, who the hell's trading stukes? I'm just telling you about. 6 foot, 195 pounds, 4. 3. He is absolutely lights out as a safety. Lights out. And there's another guy from Miami named Keontae Scott who plays defensive back. One of my. He's one of my top five favorite people in this draft. An absolute monster. Those three names. If you just go ahead and talk to football with your friends, you'll look really smart. If you mention those guys names in a couple years, they're going to be like, how the hell did you know that guy? No, because all be because you were here on Dan Patrick.
Marv Albert
I don't think that Mel Kuyper would ever describe Jeremiah Love as Gisele Bundgen in a burqa playing in the air. Now, I could be wrong, but I don't think you get that kind of analogy.
Louis Riddick
No.
Marv Albert
On. On draft night.
Louis Riddick
No, you wouldn't. Maybe you should come and join our desk.
Marv Albert
There's way too many people up there already. Way too many.
Louis Riddick
It's so fun though, man. I mean I, I absolutely love. Look the draft. It's wild coming back here to Pittsburgh and doing the draft because when I was drafted in 91, it. It for about 15 years just haunted me. I hated the draft. Every year that came around because I went in the ninth round and I probably should have left school here when I was.
Marv Albert
They don't even have a ninth round anymore.
Louis Riddick
I would have been a free agent. I would have been a free agent. I should have left here when I was a junior. I would have probably went into the first top of the sec. I had a distance, an absolute crap senior year. And so the draft was always something I hated. And to come back here now with to do the draft and the draft changed my life at ESPN 11 years ago. It's kind of a full circle moment. It's really cool. It's, it's super cool.
Marv Albert
I appreciate you getting up. I know you had a long night. And thank you for joining us all year long.
Louis Riddick
You know what? I love coming here.
Marv Albert
He's Louis Riddick of the mothership. Our play of the day is up next.

The OH1 pitch. Swinging a drive in the air pretty deep to left center. I don't think anybody's gonna get that. It's way back and it's off the wall in play and to clear the bases all three runners are going to score as the third of those fam comes home standing and standing at second with a bases clearing three run double is Bo Bichette and the Mets are back on top 10 to 7.

The offensive Rookie of the year, Jeremiah
Marv Albert
Love is number one, Carnell Tate two, Fernando Mendoza three, Jordan Tyson four and Makai Lemon is fifth on your Offensive Defensive player of the year. The Jets, David Bailey, Sonny Styles, Arbel Reese, Reuben Bain Jr. And then Caleb Downs. And as I mentioned at the beginning of the show, super bowl odds have the Rams as the favorites right now, followed by the Seahawks, then the Bills and the Ravens, Chief Snyders, Patriots, Chargers, packers and the Lions. There was a moment last night when Mike Greenberg, hosting the draft for the mothership, had the commissioner on and he did ask about Mike Vrabel and the Patriots.
Louis Riddick
Now.
Marv Albert
I was surprised, but you know, Greenie probably thought I gotta ask this question just so people understand, you know, the conduct detrimental policy. How does it apply to a coach instead of a player? Is this conduct detrimental? It's detrimental to a marriage, but I don't know if it's detrimental to the NFL. And then Mike Vrabel, the Patriots head coach, talked to the media last night.
Mike Vrabel
I take accountability for my actions and the actions that caused a distraction to the people that I care most about. My family, his football team, the organization and our fans. You know, my previous actions don't meet the standard that I hold myself to. They don't. And what I believe is best for the two most important things in my life, my family and this football team, is for us to take the necessary steps, to work together and to give them what I told them I'd give them, which is the best version of me. And that's what we're going to do. And that's going to start. That has started. That'll continue this weekend and it'll continue for however long it takes for me to give them and to complete that promise of giving them the best Version of me.
Marv Albert
Possible.
Dan Patrick
Certainly.
Marv Albert
It was a good thing he made the super bowl last year, I would think. But if I'm him, I stop talking. No need to talk about it anymore. Just concentrate on your team.
Dan Patrick
The problem I would have as an
Marv Albert
owner is, is he loose with the
Dan Patrick
information that he shares?
Marv Albert
I would be worried if I'm in the locker room of what he would be sharing if he shares with other reporters like he reportedly did with Diana Rossini. Like, that would be the football part of this.
Dan Patrick
The other salacious stuff.
Marv Albert
That's between him and his wife, Diana Rossini and her husband. But I will say this all could have ended if somebody did provide a picture of the other women who were supposed to be there with Diana Rossini at this resort, or if he had buddies who were there. There are no pictures. If you say you're there on a girl's, you know, weekend, give me a picture.
Dan Patrick
Bring some girls in.
Marv Albert
Let's see if you were actually having. And nobody provided anything.
Dan Patrick
I would hire girls to take a
Marv Albert
picture there, just to say I was there with girls, you know? Well, I couldn't say that I was there with guys. Yes, Paulie, go to the hotel bar,
Paulie
find a couple girls who've had a couple of cocktails. They want to get a selfie.
Todd
Yeah.
Paulie
You're in the clear.
Marv Albert
Yeah, but that's where. If I'm Mike, I just stopped talking here. I can't imagine Diana coming back from this to be any kind of NFL insider. Any information
Dan Patrick
jobs that you know, and
Marv Albert
maybe Barstool would hire her. She's been great when she was on the show with us, but I don't know if you can shed this anytime soon. And it's unfortunate. It's unfortunate because kids are involved with this. Grown ups do stupid things. I feel bad for the kids. Yes.
Stugotz
Marv, Is he going to have a shorter leash in New England because of this or. No, if he keeps winning, it's all good.
Marv Albert
I. I think in our sports society, when you win it, it's the great elixir. It covers up a lot. It's one big bandage. Yes.
Paulie
Paulie, you always say the deodorant of winning, but he's. He's a legend there as a player. He's a successful coach. I don't know if this is playing the same locally as it's playing nationally.
Marv Albert
Yeah, I don't know if he's going to get interrogated by the local media. You know, they're probably like, hey, just keep winning, you know, but how does this affect you the ownership sharing information. That's would be the one thing that I would want to know about. And did you tell them it only happened once and now you have to go back and say, you know what? I lied. It happened again. Tom Pellicero, NFL Network Insider will join us coming up.
