Hey, this is Matt Jones and I'm Drew Franklin and this is NFL Cover Zero. We're just here to try to an NFL perspective a little bit different. Did you see the Colts Pretzel? That was my other big takeaway from that game. What was that? Oh my. We think NFL coverage should be informative and entertaining.
Todd Fuhrman
And twice a week that is exactly what you're going to get. Listen to NFL Cover Zero with Matt.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Hope you had a great weekend. We're ready to go. Phone calls welcome, especially on a Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez. A little bit later on in the program. We got football tonight, vikings at the Bears 8, 7 7, 3, DP show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Say good morning if you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner and our radio affiliates around the country, including FOX Sports Radio iHeartradio. Our merchandise store is open. It's stocked with new gear. You can go to danpatrick.com open for business stat of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. I just saw this and, and we've talked about this. I wish, I hope that we will get to what the NFL has a schedule maker for college football because week two wasn't very good. Now I watched a lot of the Michigan, Oklahoma game. That was fun. But for the most part, great games, great matchups. They were, they were very limited. Here is the stat that stood out. So the top seven teams in America, top seven ranked teams in America won by a combined score of 307 to 26. The seven ranked teams gave up a total of two touchdowns. Stat of the Day Stat of the Day Stat of the Day Stat of the Day this is the Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. Stat of the day first hour brought to you by Tire Rack. For over 40 years they've been helping you find the right tires for how and what and where you drive ship fast and free backed by free road hazard protection, convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tire act.com the way tire buying should be. Play of the Day Stat of the Day poll question all of that forthcoming. If you turned off the TV last night, you're probably not alone. But the Bills come back and surprise, surprise, it's hard to go on the road and score 40 points and lose. Baltimore did that last night. 41, 40. Now the Bills, you might recall they lost to the LA Rams last year. That was 4442 in week 14. And then you have to go back to the Browns losing at the Chargers. Week 5 of 2021. Teams that have lost on the road, scoring 40 or more points. In fact, since 2019, teams scoring 40 or more points on the road are 72 and 3. That was a great game last night. But if you're Baltimore, you're a Ravens fan, and you put up 40 points at Buffalo and don't win and you don't stop them on, you know, their, their last few drives, your last three drives were punt, fumble, punt. Man, that's got to be tough in films session today when you're looking at that because you had that game, you had it. You should have won that game. But give credit to Josh Allen for, you know, acting like an MVP last night when you needed it the most. Here he is after the game talking about the comeback. It took everybody there. Just proud of our team for staying in it. No one on the sideline blinked. I mean, down 15 points, whatever we were with five, six minutes left, staying with it, fans leaving, you know, the stadium. You know, you got to play this game for 60 minutes, and that's, that's a really good outfit that we just played. And, you know, God willing, we, we take care of business how we're supposed to and how we think we will, you know, it's probably a team we'll see again. So, you know, they're, they're a greatly coached team. Hats off to them for having a really good game plan, but, you know, gotta be stuck in there. And I'm just proud of our guys. Here's John Harbaugh, the Ravens head coach.
Todd Fuhrman
Very disappointing. We're just going to have to regroup and get ready to go play a long season. We got 16 games in front of us. Good football team, tough environment. Obviously, we did many good things, but.
Dan Patrick
We didn't play well at the end.
Todd Fuhrman
Two big situations, the fourth down play, I mean, that's kind of a play that you don't really expect to happen. I mean, it's pretty, pretty lucky play, but they made it between the scrambles. Josh Allen played a great game, obviously.
Dan Patrick
Especially at the end. That's it.
Todd Fuhrman
We're disappointed, but we'll be, we'll be fine.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you don't want to overreact, but then there are certain situations where you might be overreacting today. If you're a Dolphins fan, you're overreacting today. If you're a Colts fan, you might be overreacting today since they blew out the Dolphins. If you're the Lions, you don't want to overreact, even though you lost your coordinators and you're a physical team and Green Bay was more physical than you. If you're a Packer fan, you don't want to overreact because you should be good, but you're probably overreacting just a little bit because you're like, damn, Micah Parsons. We're good. Yes, Marvin.
Todd Fuhrman
If I'm a Packers fan, I'm already looking for a flight to San Francisco in February.
Dan Patrick
Rams over the Texans. I think the Rams are really good. And if Matthew Stafford had a clean bill of health, I would have picked them to play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. They beat the Texans. The Texans need one of those bounce back years because they were darlings and then they fell off. They tapered off a little bit. They need a bounce back. If I'm a Jets fan, I might overreact just a little bit and say, hey, okay, now here's the bad part. You lost to Aaron Rodgers. If you would have lost that game and Aaron Rodgers isn't the quarterback, then maybe you go, that's a moral victory. That's pretty good there. But Aaron Rodgers coming back to town. And then Rodgers was asked this question after the game. He spoke about the meeting with Aaron Glenn on McAfee a few months ago. Beating him. Is there significance in that since he basically told you to your face that he didn't think you were right for that team? Yes, that's what he did.
Todd Fuhrman
So there's significance in beating him for you.
Dan Patrick
I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets. Now that's good. That was a measured, snarky response by Aaron Rodgers. And Rogers looked really good. But if I'm a Jets fan, okay, Justin Fields, they had him passing the ball more than running the ball. The Chargers, you can overreact a little bit. You can. I'll give you permission. Not that you're asking for it, but take all the time you want. And Justin Herbert, when Herbert was on the show a couple of weeks ago, we talked about why doesn't he put pressure on the defense the way Josh Allen does? And he did talk about maybe running more this year. And I said. And I brought up the Rose bowl game when he was at Oregon. By the way, Oregon just scored again. Still close. Oh, no.
Paulie
Oh, no.
Dan Patrick
That was. Yikes. Wow. Yikes. Okay, so, you know, I, Justin Herbert should be putting pressure on the defense by using his legs. And he did that. And that was a big win for them. I mentioned college football that, you know, a lot of these top teams, you know, they were. By the way, Grambling States Band probably has more athletes than Grambling's football team now. Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm watching. And by the way, that's a damn good band. But that was it, you know, Ohio State against Grambling. But, you know, some of these matchups, Oklahoma, Michigan was really good. And then the Oregon, Oklahoma State game, I'm watching, and I'm going, is this Oklahoma State Technical Institute or so? Like, is this a different Oklahoma State? And then I saw Mike Gundy on the sidelines with his hair, and I go, yeah, it's Oklahoma State. That was shocking. That was one of those. Golly. I mean, Oregon's good. Is Oklahoma state that bad? 69 to 3. When you look at all the scores and you're going, oh, yeah, you know, that team played. You know this, you know, you know that. Ohio State against Grant. You know, nobody's playing really competitive games, week two. And then you go, oh, Oregon won 69 to 3 against Oklahoma State. Oh, my goodness. But there was a lot of football, good football, some bad football as well. Florida, Florida Gators. That's tough. That's a tough situation. And I'd say there's a Bunsen burner underneath Coach Napier, because that schedule, that's one of the toughest schedules probably in the history of college football. And I don't know how you survived that. Anyway. I know he got the vote of confidence last year, but I, he. He can't survive that. It's. That's, that's tough. I mean, the next three or four games.
Todd Fuhrman
Yes, Todd, lsu, Miami, Texas, Texas A and M. Those are the next four for the Gator.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it doesn't get easier. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie
There might be a couple head coaching openings in Florida in football in the next two months.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Well, Mike McDaniel was already on the hot seat, and I think he was the odds on favorite to be the first coach fired. You know, watching the Giants with Brian Dable and Russell Wilson. But this is what I don't want the Giants to do. Put Jackson Dart in there right now. If, if Russell Wilson, you know, is getting banged up, I don't want Jackson Dart going in there. Show a little patience. Have, have a succession plan that's all. Let Russ play in September and then put Jackson Dart in there. It's a tough schedule. They have one of the toughest schedules in the NFL. Russ didn't play well. The defense is pretty good, but I'm not, I don't think Jackson Dart needs to be thrown in there. Like, I want to build up his confidence. I, I, I want Him. I don't need to go in there and crush his confidence. I want to make sure that he gets an opportunity when the team is ready to play. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie
The New York Giants are at the Cowboys host the Chiefs host the chargers. Then on October 5th, they are at the Saints. Is that the Jackson Dart game? Local crowd probably likes Jackson Dart a little bit. Played down that way.
Dan Patrick
I don't think I want him starting on the road.
Paulie
But then if it doesn't work out, the home fans aren't involved.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but I think that they. They have to look at this as. I mean, he's not the savior yet. I don't think you go, oh, no, he can't play or we're doomed. I think you're kind of doomed anyway this, this year. But if he's playing, I. I would like to have the home support. I'd rather face a better team at home than going on the road against the Saints. All right, Seaton, what's poll question from the first hour?
Seaton
Well, we might as well start off Monday. Right. Team that had the worst weekend.
Dan Patrick
Ooh. Okay. So we're putting college and pro in there. We could put anybody in there. Okay. Yes. All right. Okay.
Seaton
To me, the clear favorite would be the Miami Dolphins.
Dan Patrick
Yes. That was terrible. Oklahoma State.
Seaton
Oklahoma State is most definitely in there. They got humiliated.
Dan Patrick
Lions.
Seaton
I would say that was a terrible weekend.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. They weren't. They weren't threatening. I mean, Green Bay was a better team and more physical team. That was surprising. And you're, you know. Okay, you lose both coordinators and both coordinators go on to be head coaches, and you lose Ben Johnson from that offense, and it showed. They didn't have that creativity. I think they, they. It was kind of vanilla, but, you know, maybe Green Bay, I mean, that's a defense led team. It's almost like defense. Green Bay is defense and then offense, and it's usually the other way around. Yes.
Seaton
That game took place about 48 hours after you made your super bowl pick.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
How are you feeling today?
Dan Patrick
Not good. Because the Chiefs lost as well. Yeah. I. My initial two teams were going to be Green Bay or the Rams. Yeah. To. To face the Chiefs. And I just. You know what? As much as I want another team in there or Buffalo to get a chance in there or even the Ravens to go, it's just hard to go against the Chiefs. And I, I took the probably easy way out to go. I'll go Lions in this situation. But I am rooting for that storyline too. Yes.
Seaton
Do you want us to find a loophole for you to.
Dan Patrick
No, no. Okay. No. No. Because really, the Rams are the team that I, I wanted to pick. I love the Rams this year. I just. Matthew Stafford, like, part of my hot take was going to be Jimmy Garoppolo leads the Rams to a Super bowl victory. That's. That's where I was going to go. What year is it exactly. But this wasn't going to be my hot take. It was going to be my real take, that Garoppolo will lead the Rams to a Super bowl win. Now, it's only. I don't want to overreact week one. You know, the Chiefs will be the Chiefs. They'll bounce back and give credit to the Chargers. They played great. The Lions just didn't look threatening. They didn't look physical. And you know, Micah Parsons, that, that's a big, you know, emotional boost for them. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Todd, for the poll question, is there any room for Clemson in victory early third quarter, losing Detroit 163 and how to bounce back to win 27 16?
Paulie
Yeah, Paul, I'd like to jump on that. The Bengals are a couple points away from being on the hour one poll question. They got beat in the second half by the Browns. Yeah, they escaped.
Dan Patrick
I thought the Browns were going to win the game. Starting the game just because. Why not? You know? And here are the Bengals, always slow out of the gate. They didn't look, they didn't look good. Brown should have won that game. Yes.
Seaton
Well, that's my other poll question. Here is a loss that was really a win.
Dan Patrick
Ooh. Okay. Hold that though. Let me take a break here. Save it. Save it. After the break when he lost, is it the most winning loss or the most lossy win?
Seaton
Yeah, that's the flip side of that coin.
Paulie
Feels very lossy.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. All right, let me take a break. Get to your phone calls. Coming up, just getting started. Back after this, be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9:00am Eastern, 6:00am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app. Hey, what's up, everybody? Here's a troubling stat if you're a Ravens fan. Since 2019, the Ravens have lost five games when leading by 10 or more points in the fourth quarter, tied with the Bears for most in the NFL over that span. Brought to you by Panini America last Night was a subtle reminder. You have to have an elite quarterback. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen put on a show and Jackson was great. You put up 40 points on the road, has that magic. Derrick Henry looked great. Had a bad fumble though. And then you had Josh Allen nearly 400 yards through the air, 16 unanswered points, delivering a one point win. And this is vintage Josh Allen. Fearless, improvisational, relentless. But the lesson is really simple. You can have weapons, coaching matters, defense matters. But when you have one of those guys as your quarterback, that is a huge advantage. And you saw that on display last night. Alrighty. Tonight, Vikings at the Bears. This is one of those games that if the Bears win now, all of a sudden you look at that division and you go, this is top to bottom, the best division. And it might be the best division in football, but we're waiting for the Bears to graduate. We're waiting for them to be a contender. I thought they were going to be a playoff team last year. Now you got a new coach in there. Now you got a coach who's going to coach up Caleb Williams. Now he's going to be the guy in his ear going, you got this amount of time, get rid of the ball or, you know, take a sack or, you know, or dump it, whatever it's going to be, your clock has got to be going. I saw this with Cam Ward. It, this is what happens with rookie quarterbacks, even second year quarterbacks, holding on to the ball too long. Because when you're at incarnate word, you're able to hold onto the ball a little bit longer. Even at Miami, a little bit longer. Not in the NFL. And this is what happens with young quarterbacks. And you saw that with Cam Ward. And I did watch a little bit of Jacksonville. I just wanted to see how they were going to use Travis Hunter. And what was surprising, he was on 42 offensive plays. He played defense on six plays. Because coming out of the drafting, going into the draft, he was going to be a surefire great cornerback and he was going to be a situational wide receiver. That's what we've been led to believe. Even my friend who's a scout said he's, he should be playing, you know, predominantly on defense and then bring him in, you know, situations. That's not the case. 42 plays on offense and he had six catches. But then now they, Jacksonville needs offense and you just took the offensive coordinator from Tampa Bay. You should be better offensively. And they might be saying, and Travis at the end look great. So maybe that's what they're, hey, let's lead with our offense here. And, you know, maybe not as much defense here. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, I went back and looked this morning at a bunch of different draft pilot profiles of Travis Hunter and they lean the opposite way. Like you were saying that it'd be mostly defense and more worked in the offense here and there. It seems to be the opposite.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But, you know, the new head coach might be saying, I, I can't waste that talent just on defense. I got to have him on offense. I, I have to have him help everybody here, including my quarterback, who, you know, we paid as a franchise quarterback here. And I think maybe that's where they're leaning here. But by all accounts, it felt like, hey, he's a lockdown corner. He's. He can be great at that position. He's learning to be a wide receiver. I mean, he's got that much talent. You gotta have him. Body language. By the way, Malik neighbors with his head coach, Brian Dabel on the sideline now. I know these moments happen. Tyreek Hill on the sidelines losing to the Colts. I think one of my hot takes was he won't be on the team by the trade deadline. I just can't imagine, can't imagine that if it's going to go this way, and I know this is an over, it could even go well and I don't know if you'll still be on the team, but that was one of those where you go, okay, I think the Colts are better than what people will give them credit for and maybe a playoff team. But I think we all thought the Dolphins would put up points. You got Tua and Waddle and Tyree Kill and okay. But you got nothing, zilch out of that. All right, Seaton, run down the poll question. All the nominees today.
Seaton
Team that had the worst weekend. Right now, we've got four. We've got the Miami Dolphins, Oklahoma State, the Detroit Lions and the Florida Gators.
Dan Patrick
All right, any. Any additions to that?
Seaton
No, but we do have another poll question with either we're going with loss that was a win, or as someone on social media suggested, the most inspirational loss. Just sounds so nice.
Dan Patrick
Yay, we lost.
Seaton
I'm so inspired after that loss.
Dan Patrick
It's gonna be a movie like Rudy. Yeah. You know, it's. But it. But he loses in the end. Yeah.
Seaton
You got the jets losing to the Steelers. 34, 32. Yeah, man, that felt pretty good, though, if you're a Jets fan.
Dan Patrick
I think. Yes, I think. Yes, yes. But you Lost Aaron Rodgers. You did. That's just. That's the only problem.
Seaton
That's not the guy you want to see taking a victory lap week one.
Dan Patrick
No. And then give a smug answer there. Just good to beat everybody in the jets organization.
Seaton
Everyone involved in that organization.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yeah, Everybody. Joe Namath, Richard Todd. I mean, everybody here. We view Banks. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
That's a winning loss by the jets because the jets are used to losing. Their fans are used to losing. They're not used to having a promising quarterback who's entering his prime. And even though it's one game, Justin Fields played about as well as you could expect.
Dan Patrick
But Aaron Glenn's your defensive coordinator. You get from Detroit, and they didn't do a good job stopping a quarterback that you personally didn't think could be a quarterback for your team. One of the worst teams in football. All right, so let's get a couple of phone calls in here. Chris in Syracuse. Good morning, Chris. How are you, buddy? We having problems with the phone, Marvin? Yeah, you got me, Dan. Okay. I'm doing well, thank you, Dan. Hey, I've got a best and worse to throw at you. I know it's only one game, but Daniel Jones did look pretty good. And being a Viking fan, I read a lot last year where our coach, Kevin o', Connell, he only had them for a couple months, but he went over a lot of reading defenses, worked on his mechanics. We got some issues there. It's a little choppy. It's on our end, Chris. We'll see if we can get that fixed here by the next commercial break. So we'll try to get phone calls in here as we always do. Best and worst of the weekend. And our merchandise store is open for business. Go to danpatrick.com and you can see all the new gear that we have. There's so many great stats after an NFL and college football weekend. That one where the top seven ranked teams won by a combined score of 307 to 26 and they gave up a total of two touchdowns is pretty amazing. Yeah. Seaton.
Seaton
I was going to say we actually have some more inspirational loss.
Dan Patrick
Oh.
Seaton
That we hadn't gotten to.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
In case you needed something to go to.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
We just did. Jets losing to the Steelers. What about The Browns? Bengals 1716. That's a. I'll take that if I'm the Browns.
Dan Patrick
It's not great.
Seaton
It was sort of a slop fest, I think, but.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Can I call it a great loss by the Browns?
Seaton
Well, I don't know if it's a great loss, but it's one that you can build on.
Dan Patrick
Like, it's a lossy win for the Bengals.
Seaton
I feel way, I feel way worse up on the Bengals today than I do with the Browns.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Because that they're supposed to be leading with their offense.
Seaton
This is the bounce back year.
Dan Patrick
This is a year that we're really.
Seaton
Going to show who we are.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Todd, I was thinking the Browns too, but the way they lost that then a minute and a half left in the game, a makeable field goal that would have put them ahead, you know, has me a little like, you know, I don't know how much pride you can take in that loss when they should have won that game.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd.
Todd Fuhrman
You're welcome.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Paulie. I'm going to go.
Paulie
The Atlanta Falcons for a nice loss. They handled the Buccaneers in the first half, didn't hold on to the lead, but Bijan had a nice game. Kyle Pitts, seven catches. Drake London, eight catches. Michael Penix Jr. Very nice game. It felt like a good day without the win.
Dan Patrick
Okay. It's usually the team that's not supposed to win that wins that game. That's why I thought Atlanta was going to win because Tampa is a better team. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Todd, if we're not keeping it to just NFL. I know we mentioned earlier, Troy hanging in there with Clemson, I think that's something that school should feel pretty good about. The number 18 in the country and they were leading 16, three early third quarter. That's something to be happy about.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. We're looking for inspirational losses today.
Paulie
Positivity.
Dan Patrick
Yes. We don't want to overreact even with our positivity with inspirational losses. But still, I, I saw the score and it's like Troy leading Clemson. I go, oh, boy, oh, boy.
Seaton
The score line just feels a little tough when you look at the. They have 27, 16. It isn't far away, but it is two scores.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Paul, you know when you look at.
Paulie
Your TV screen and you see something like, well, that can't be right. Iowa State's three and oh, and it's September 6th at the end of the nice game, Iowa State beating Iowa. And I'm like, they're three and oh.
Dan Patrick
Three, three wins and it's September 6th.
Paulie
It's still summer.
Dan Patrick
The Oklahoma State score. That one was, you know, you kind of look and you go, wait, is there like a, a one that's a two, that's supposed to be in front of that three and like 20 even then 69 to 23 or 33. 43. Yeah.
Seaton
See, what's worse, giving up that many points or scoring so little.
Dan Patrick
69 points is a lot.
Seaton
That's a lot of points.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And they probably could have scored 80.
Seaton
I feel like Patrick Mahomes, I think I saw his Texas Tech team do that to West Virginia once, but the game was like 70 to 69, and they both put up just the most absurd number of points.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. This wasn't a game. And even I don't know who the. The reporter, the sideline reporter was when she's talking to Mike Gundy coming off the sidelines at halftime and. But you got to ask the question, like, what adjustments you're going to make in the second half.
Paulie
Coach, you're down 413 at half. Any adjust investments on the horizon?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, we're going to adjust our travel schedule. I like to get out of here by the end of the third quarter. We're going to leave or can we get the clock running on this? That was surprising. And then you had Gundy talk about how much money Oregon has spent on their football team. Well, mission accomplished. You know, maybe Oklahoma State needs to spend a little bit more on their football team. Yes. Marvin. Yeah.
Todd Fuhrman
As soon as I saw the score, I was like, wait, this isn't a school Barry Sanders and Des Bryant went to. Can't be them. I was like, oklahoma State law in campus. Because this isn't in Stillwater.
Paulie
There's a hyphen in there somewhere.
Dan Patrick
T. Boone Pickens rolling over in his grave. Yeah. Can't anybody spend his billions on the Oklahoma State football team. They need to bring. Where's Hartley Dykes? They gotta bring it. Hartley Dykes. Get somebody like that. Irving Friar. Oh, no, he was Nebraska. My bad. I'm watching, going, this is. This is sad because I always think about, you know, Gundy, I'm 40. I'm a man. And then he didn't. He didn't have that feeling after this game. It's more like, we got beat by 40 and I'm a man. No, you got beat by 66. So we'll try to get these phone calls situated. Tyler's working on that feverishly. Feverishly. Let me see, what else do I have here? The Giants haven't scored an offensive touchdown in week one since 2022. They've been outscored in week one, 109 to 33. You know, Brian Dable is well respected, but I just don't know how you hold on to your job with that schedule. And it felt like they were going to move on from him last year. I, you know, I. I'm not for anybody being fired because it is a difficult job. But you got to show improvement and got to show improvement offensively here. You move on from Danny Dimes, okay? He took. He took the blame. Now he's not there anymore, so the blame is going to go someplace else. Probably start with Russ, but Brian, you know, comes back to Brian Dable. And I hope that they. They show caution. They use caution with Jackson Dart because you don't go, hey, the offense isn't any good with Russ. We'll put in Jackson Dart. It's probably still not going to be very good. But, Russ, that's not the debut that you were hoping for if you want to secure that job. And the coaching staff knows they're on the clock until ownership says you guys are going to be here next year. Ownership hasn't said that. And as I've said on numerous occasions, if that's the case, then don't play Jackson Dart. You play Russ for as long as you can. See if you can get some wins. But don't throw him in there. But they might. If they're trying to save their jobs, they might go, hey, let's put him in and maybe he does something and maybe we keep our jobs. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Marvin, I think the Giants were the week one winner of the Denny Green Award. They are who we thought they were. Yeah, they're not good. They got a great D line, Dexter.
Dan Patrick
Lawrence and those guys. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
But that's it. They're sorry.
Dan Patrick
Everywhere else. You got Malik Neighbors. He's a really good receiver. He's really good. But there was that awkward moment on the sidelines between him and the head. Brian Dable goes for a high five and Malik Neighbors looks down like he did. He did. He left him hang and complete the press. No, he did not. He left him hanging there. Brian Dable's like, hey, up top. And then his head down like, nope. Yeah, Paul.
Paulie
And all that coverage of Debo Samuel not being in shape in the preseason. Seven catches, 77 yards.
Dan Patrick
That was a big deal.
Paulie
Yeah. Had a one run for 19 yards.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. He looked like it was five years ago. And even the 49ers, like, that's an ugly win, but I thought it would be an ugly game. But you got a lot of touches for Christian McCaffrey. Purdy didn't look great, but that's. That's a good win. That for me, when I. I was watching some of that because I was curious about McCaffrey you know, it's easy to lose those games, but man, that's where I don't 10 weeks from now, 11 weeks from now, you could be looking back on teams that won or lost opening week and what that meant for their playoff situation, where you're on the road for a wild card or you're hosting all the way through. Just we tend to put, you know, more importance on those games later in the year during the regular season. These ones up front, these are the ones that always come back to haunt you. Always. All right, we'll take a break, we'll work on our phone calls, and we'll bring you our play of the day right after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Yeah, we got two of them up there right now. Team that had the worst weekend. There's a couple of real doozies on this list, Dolphins being one of them. So far they have the lead in the poll question for having the worst weekend, followed closely by the Florida Gators. Tough one for Florida. This poll question.
Dan Patrick
I have updated odds here. By the way, the Vikings are one and a half point favorites in Chicago tonight and your anytime touchdown leader would be Justin Jefferson. Entertainment purposes only. Also, the MVP odds. As you would expect, Josh Allen got a nice little boost from last night's game. So did Lamar Jackson. They both played well. Joe Burrow Then it's Mahomes, Jaden Daniels, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert. How does Jalen Hurts? MVP odds get worse after that performance against the Dallas Cowboys. But it did. Burrow's odds got worse. Mahomes got worse. Jordan Love Jaden Daniels got a little bit better. Justin Herbert's MVP odds jumped up now plus 1500. It was plus 2000 and Super bowl odds. According to DraftKings. It's still Buffalo. Buffalo was plus 600, tied with the Ravens to start the season. Now they're at plus 475, the Ravens still in second. Then it's the Eagles. The packers got a nice little bump. They were plus 1200, and now they're plus 900. The Chiefs went the other way as well. Commanders went up a little bit. Chargers went up a little bit as well. I loved watching the Chargers play well and. But I. I can't. I. If they go to the super bowl, win the super bowl, great. I'll go to the parade. But I. I'm. I'm sorry. I can't do it. I just can't. Too many times when I've gone, man, the Chargers, I think if their uniforms didn't look as good as they do, then I maybe. I probably. I probably wouldn't be all in on the Chargers for. It was years. It felt like, man, this is the year of the Chargers. It's Chargers year. Didn't matter who was the quarterback or the coach. I'm. I'm picking them a bunch of times. Yes. Marvin. Yeah.
Todd Fuhrman
As a franchise, the Chargers are in the hall of Very good. Like, you know what? They're right there. I don't care what their record is in the regular season. The Philip Rivers, I think they went 14, two one year. Like, oh, they got home. Oh, they lost in a divisional round. And they've done this a few times.
Dan Patrick
I know. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie
And they quietly got Keenan Allen back. They're a longtime wide receiver. I did not know he went back there. He had seven catches.
Dan Patrick
I knew that he was going back, and I thought, I just don't want him to get hurt again, you know, because he's one of those guys, man, if he didn't get hurt, you don't want to be that guy, you know, and if he didn't get hurt, but he does get hurt. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Todd, are the charges a bit like Arizona on our college basketball bracket sheets during March Madness? You keep hoping and you keep picking them because you think they're going to get further than they get, and then they just stop.
Dan Patrick
Isn't that the analogy I use all the time, Don Arizona.
Todd Fuhrman
Yeah, I guess maybe you do. I'm jumping on that, I guess. Like, I've done that before.
Dan Patrick
Thank you.
Todd Fuhrman
I thought today would be a good day to bring that back, since we were just talking about the Chargers not getting to the.
Dan Patrick
But I always. I call them the Arizona Wildcats of the.
Todd Fuhrman
I was just bringing that back today.
Dan Patrick
Or Arizona is the Chargers of college.
Todd Fuhrman
We're emphasizing the point. I guess that's what I did.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd Fuhrman
I didn't really accomplish.
Dan Patrick
Instead of saying, you know, as you.
Todd Fuhrman
Say, I probably should have prefaced It. By saying, as you always say, that would have eliminated this awkward moment we're having.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. You took something from Seton as well last week.
Todd Fuhrman
Kind of. I don't know if it was. It was in that ballpark, but it wasn't exactly as similar.
Dan Patrick
Mm. Okay. Pattern developing here.
Todd Fuhrman
I've been accused of that in the past. Just repurposing other people, not having an original thought. I can. I can wear that.
Dan Patrick
That's fine. Yes. Paul, here's a weird one.
Paulie
I was watching, trying to bail you out. I was watching the Chargers the other night, and Derwin James, the safety, just. He's just a fantastic player. And they were talking about last year. He had five and a half sacks last year from the safety position. Then they looked at his career stats. He has nine career interceptions and 17 career sacks at safety. I wonder if there's ever been a defensive back in NFL history with more sacks than interception numbers.
Dan Patrick
Rodney Harrison.
Paulie
More, you think more sacks?
Dan Patrick
Well, he's 30. 30. Rodney Harrison has at least 30 sacks and at least 30 interceptions. There's only two players in history who've done the 30. 30. Ray Lewis is, I believe, the other one. Yeah. Paul.
Paulie
Rodney Harrison, 34 career picks, 30 and a half career sacks. He's right there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And he should be a Hall of Famer, I know that he was a finalist, I think, this past year, but, I mean, that's. That's hard to do as a safety. You go 30, 30 in your career and you're playing for teams that won championships. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Marvin, it was it his reputation as keeping him out, being a dirty player. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And then he also got busted for steroids. I think performance enhancing drugs coming back from a injury got him steroids in the mail, something like that. But he played for, you know, a great franchise. He won Super Bowls. He played well in Super Bowls. And you're in the 30, 30 club. That's. That's hall of Fame worthy. Yeah.
Paulie
Pulling guys like him and Heinz Ward, maybe not in the hall of Fame, but they're hall of guys I'd love to have on my team.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
And coaches always say that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I'm still surprised Heinz isn't in there.
Paulie
Four straight Pro Bowls. Three straight All Pros.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
In the meat of his career. Finished with an even 1000 catches.
Dan Patrick
But labeled one of the dirtiest players. And Rodney was labeled a dirty player as well. But, I mean, I don't know if you're holding that against somebody there. There are a lot of guys who were dirty players who still went into the hall of Fame. But we celebrated that a little bit more back then. You know, when you, you know, you were able to hit somebody up the side of the head with a cast that you had on or, you know, however you could lift up a quarterback and smash him. You know, we're like, yeah, we, we celebrated that kind of player. Yes.
Todd Fuhrman
Marvin Heinz Ward, super bowl mvp.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Well, we've had some Super Bowl MVPs who didn't go on to great things.
Todd Fuhrman
Well, I don't want to call him Dexter Jackson or Larry Brown or anything, but.
Dan Patrick
But you did Dexter Jackson then. He have a couple interceptions? He did, yeah. Yeah. And Larry Brown, didn't he have a couple interceptions as well?
Todd Fuhrman
He did.
Dan Patrick
Wasn't Neil o'. Donnell.
Paulie
Oh, no.
Todd Fuhrman
Oh, no.
Dan Patrick
Didn't he throw the interceptions? Yeah, he did. Yeah.
Todd Fuhrman
He threw him right to.
Dan Patrick
He did. He threw him right to him.
Paulie
Try to confuse him by throwing right into his hand.
Dan Patrick
Yes. He'll never suspect this.
Paulie
How do we get there?
Dan Patrick
I have no idea. How do we get anywhere on this show? One hour in the books on this Monday. Two more to go. Our starting lineup, our Fab five, Fritzi Seaton, Marv Paulie, yours truly, and of course the backroom guys as well.

Main Theme:
A lively, insightful NFL Week 1 recap with Dan Patrick and the team, highlighting dramatic finishes, the critical importance of elite quarterbacks, reactions to vintage Josh Allen, overreactions from Week 1, and reflections on college football’s uneven weekend.
Dan Patrick sets the tone for a Monday morning after a dramatic NFL Sunday, inviting listener calls on "Best and Worst of the Weekend." The show delivers a thorough rundown of NFL Week 1’s biggest storylines—focusing on the Bills’ wild comeback over the Ravens, the necessity of great quarterback play, surprising results across the league, and early season overreactions. College football also gets a look, especially the lopsided matchups from Week 2. Throughout, Dan and the crew (Paulie, Seaton, Todd, Marvin) deliver sharp analysis, trademark wit, and relatable fan reactions.
Bills Comeback Over Ravens—Vintage Josh Allen
A high-scoring thriller: Bills beat Ravens 41–40 despite trailing late.
Teams rarely lose when scoring 40+ on the road: “Since 2019, teams scoring 40 or more points on the road are 72 and 3.” (Dan, 03:30)
Josh Allen leads a furious comeback, earning MVP praise:
“Give credit to Josh Allen for, you know, acting like an MVP last night when you needed it most.” (Dan, 06:31)
Josh Allen quoted postgame:
“Just proud of our team for staying in it. No one on the sideline blinked ... Fans leaving, you know, the stadium. You got to play this game for 60 minutes.” (Dan, 06:41)
Ravens Coach John Harbaugh reacts:
“Very disappointing ... We did many good things, but we didn't play well at the end. Two big situations, the fourth down play ... pretty lucky play, but they made it. Josh Allen played a great game, obviously. Especially at the end.” (Harbaugh/Todd, 07:07–07:32)
Importance of Elite Quarterbacks
“Last night was a subtle reminder—you have to have an elite quarterback. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen put on a show … when you have one of those guys as your quarterback, that is a huge advantage.” (Dan, 23:15)
Dolphins fans, after a blowout loss to the Colts, are “overreacting today” (Dan, 07:38, 14:30).
Packers fans: “If I'm a Packers fan, I'm already looking for a flight to San Francisco in February.” (Todd, 08:14)
Lions fans: Dan questions post-loss negativity but points out they looked flat after staff changes (14:49).
Jets fans: Without Aaron Rodgers, is a close loss a moral victory?
On Justin Herbert adapting his style:
“Why doesn't he put pressure on the defense the way Josh Allen does?... He did that [this weekend].” (Dan, 09:21, 10:11)
College Football Upsets and Blowouts
Birth of the “most inspirational loss” poll—a losing result but something for fans to feel good about:
Humor and Self-Reflection:
“You don't want to overreact, but then there are certain situations where you might be overreacting today.” (07:38)
“There might be a couple of head coaching openings in Florida in football in the next two months.” (12:24)
“I'm so inspired after that loss. It's gonna be a movie like Rudy ... but he loses in the end.” (28:33)
“As a franchise, the Chargers are in the hall of Very good ... I don't care what their record is in the regular season.” (47:43)

Dan Patrick’s classic mix of informed analysis, wry humor, and genuine fan energy shines through. The show moves easily from sharp sports takes (“Vintage Josh Allen”) to self-deprecating fan perspective (“inspirational losses”), and banter among the crew (Todd playfully accused of “repurposing” show analogies).
