Play of the Day Poll Questions Stat of the Day it is a meat Friday. Pork belly banh mi sandwiches, Vietnamese summer rolls, coconut fried rice. Who has it better than we do? Nobody yet. Dylan is out there whipping up a batch of some delicious goodies. But I wasn't quite familiar with the pork belly banh mi sandwiches and the summer rolls and the coconut fried rice. Yes, Paul, those banh mi sandwiches have really caught on in the past decade. Food trucks, specialty stores, they're very refreshing. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. First hour brought to you by the great folks at Mako. As in makeover. How about we bring your car back to life? Also, we have our good friends from tire rack there in the building and came into changed the tires for Mario. He was voted the most valuable backroom guy. Tire rack reached out and said we're going to get you four new tires just like they did for Fritzi is the most valuable. Dan M. Alrighty. Poll question Seaton. What are we going to go with? Because we are a what have you done for me lately? Reactionary sports society so feels like everybody's going Indiana's they're going to win this thing, right? Well, not so fast. OkC going back home. Now you're favored by eight and a half but the pressure is clearly on them because nobody thought Indiana would get this far. Here they are and all of a sudden that bench is formidable and they dominated last night. Now slow start and then all of a sudden they got going 48 points from the bench. Now I was wondering in the last 40 years, how often do you get 48 points or more from your bench in multiple games? Because in game three, the bench scored 49 points. It's they're the only team in the last 40 years to have this happen where your bench got you 48 or more in at least two games in the NBA Finals. Also, 38% of their scoring came from the bench in the Finals. That's the most of any team in the last 40 years. Brought to you by Panini America. I know talent wins games, but when you're going to win a title, it takes more than just a great starting five. It's a team. And a lot of times in the NBA, when you get to the Finals, you get to the postseason, your rotation gets shorter and shorter. There's fewer players that you put in the rotation. And that means if you're going to sub somebody in, you're going to sub somebody out. Maybe you're going two or three players deep. But with Indiana and okc, they play a lot of players. Indiana didn't shoot the lights out. They shot 35% from deep. OKC was 8 of 30 in a potential closeout game. But now coughing up the ball, turnovers, it felt like. I think they had 21 or 22 turnovers. Felt like every one of them were in the first half. And Shea Gilgis had a horrible game. He had eight turnovers. Well, when you have that, you get a spark from your bench. I didn't have to lean on Tyrese Halliburton that much, although I thought he played once he got acclimated to the game, and I think he played 23 minutes, like, that's good. And I thought that he would be a decoy. I thought, you have him there. I don't want him handling the ball as much as he normally does. TJ McConnell was great again off the bench. Although we come in today and we're talking about Indiana and how they played and who played well and OB Toppin. And we said, hey, TJ McConnell was great again. And Seaton goes, I hate TJ McConnell. I don't want him on my team. And I go. I go, wait a minute. I didn't say I hate TJ McConnell. How about an I team investigation said that? I don't. I don't really aesthetically care for the way that he plays, and I don't want a guy like that on my team. I think we have a direct quote. You might have said that you hate T.J. mcConnell. Yeah, it's a sports hate. No, no, just sports hate. That's the guy you want on your team, don't you? I think. You know what? Probably smart basketball people would say, yes, I don't want that dude anywhere. Stop trying so hard. Stop it. God. You need Those guys. Because I kept wondering, okay, how. Why does seaton not like TJ McConnell goes, he tries so hard. Just try so hard. It's like, dude, stop. He tries so hard. Isn't that. That's the goal, Is it? Don't you? What? I understand how the words coming out of my mouth make very little sense, but God, the d. Just try so hard. Would you just stop? Drives me crazy. You know, guys are making money right before us. Like, Obi Toppin is playing himself into some money now. You know, former University of Dayton first round pick. I don't know what TJ McConnell's contract status is, but I know one person who knows. Paulie. T.J. mcConnell picked the worst time to play the series of his life. He is fully under contract for the next four years. Now the good news is he's making $11 million per year the next four years, which will double his career salary in just next four years. But he is locked up. He cannot benefit from this run. Wow. It's just good, hard work. He doesn't. He just. Yeoman's work, man. That's a bummer. Obi Toppin is going to get paid. He led him in scoring last night with 20. That's exactly what T.J. mcConnell, the kind of dealer would have. Yeah. It's already team friendly and it's locked up for four years. I'm going to work my ass off for you every night. I'm gonna play hard. Yeah, I'd play for nothing. I'd play for free. Yes. Mark, Obi Toppin is also locked up until the 27, 28 season. Oh, Topping and McConnell. Four more years. All right, here's. Here's Tyree. Here's Tyrese Halliburton playing through his injury. I just look at it as, you know, I want to be out there to compete with my brothers. You know, these are guys that I'm willing to go to and we've had such a special year and we have a special bond as a group. And, you know, I think I'd beat myself up if I didn't give it a chance, you know, and, you know, I just wanted to be out there and fight and just had to have honest conversation with coach that, you know, if I didn't look like myself and, you know, was hurting the team, like, sit me down. Like, that's. Obviously, I want to be on the floor, but I want to win, you know, more than anything. All right. You know, the run continues for him. It wasn't great. The over under was 13 and a half for his point total, he had 14. But he, you know, it's just enough to be out there sometimes. That lift that you give your team. I was watching him, you know, even when the ball wasn't being swung his way. I just wanted to see how involved he was and was he going to be a detriment. Love that he played, love that he cared. And now you get a couple of days to rest before Sunday night. And OKC was trying to bring it to him, but I thought that Rick Carlisle did a great job of positioning Halliburton in a place where they couldn't really pick on him and, you know, do pick and rolls. Plus you didn't really have to play in the fourth quarter. That's great as well because that was another thing when you play and this is an injury that if this is the regular season, he's missing games. Not singular he's missing games. But if you're going to be out there, how long are you out there? Because I don't want you sitting down and then going back in. Sitting down and going back in, trying to stay loose. I thought that was really important. But that crowd energized them. They played great defense. And now it goes back to Oklahoma City okc. They might look back on this game six and go, we know showed like what happened. Close them out. You've been favored big favorites every single game and you're now a big favorite at home by eight and a half. Here's Shay Gilgis Alexander on the dud they laid last night. The way I see it is we suck tonight. We have to learn the lessons and we have one game for everything, for everything we've worked for, and so do they. And the better team Sunday will win. Okay. Yeah. But it certainly feels like momentum's on the Pacer side and you got OKC going back. We're supposed to win. We're at home. And sometimes, I mean, that's why it's so hard to win that fourth game. Now, we normally don't go to Game 7. I think this is the first time since 2016, most teams close you out, they don't want to get to that Game seven. And man, that fourth win in a seven game series is so tough to come by. And we saw that last time. All right, so you got a poll question based off last night there, Seaton, on who do you like now going into game seven? Well, yeah, yeah, I think we'll look at last night's loss was like, how big was last night's loss? No big deal. Or something they will regret forever, I believe is the wording Paul used. Well, if you win on Sunday night, nobody remembers game six. If you lose on Sunday night, they'll remember game six. We'll get to some phone calls coming up a little bit later on. Jeff Teague, who is former NBA player, I think he a high school coach in Indiana, and he's got a great podcast, Club Five Twenty. He tells some stories. He'll join us coming up top of next hour, Jim Gray is partnering with Tom Brady. They're doing something that's really cool in Las Vegas at the Fountain Blue Hotel. And I'll let Jim tell you about it. With all the different memorabilia that they have, hall of Excellence. And it's not just sports. Yes. And it opens today. Okay, that's nice. So Jim will join us a little bit later on. Now, they do have Tom Brady's super bowl rings there, but they got, they have so many different pieces of memorabilia. Ali, boxing gloves, they got gold medals, they got, let's see, Academy Awards. I mean, there's such a long list of things that they've accumulated there, but it's set up. And when we were there for the super bowl, they were already talking about this and this announcement that they had. And Jim's been involved with this, Jim and his wife and Tom Brady to bring all of these pieces of memorabilia there. It's not just sports, but hall of Excellence. So Jim will join us a little bit later on. And Tom Yamas, he is the NBC News, he's the nightly news anchor. He's coming here, just took over for Lester Holt a few weeks ago. All right. And he's coming here to the man, he is, he From 30 Rock all the way to Milford, Connecticut, to hang with you. That's pretty awesome. Okay. All right. What happens if something happens in the world and he's on his way here and then he's got to go? Let's hope that doesn't happen. And that would be terrible for all parties involved. But when do you know? Like, at what point do you go, okay, oh, I gotta go, or somebody else will cover that. Like, I don't know. Who decides? Like, is there one person to go? All right, we sending him over, you know, to wherever or we're going to let somebody else cover that? Because a moment's notice, you got to go. Any kind of disaster that happens, can you have a vacate? What if you're having beers with your buddies, then all of a sudden it's like, hey, something happened. You gotta go because you'd see Dan Rather. He'd always. There'd be a hurricane or tornado. Dan Rather be holding on to a light pole and, you know, holding on for dear life. Yeah, Paulie, this is a dumb question that I really want to ask him. I'm gonna give it to you guys. First. Does he have approval of his own haircut? Like, can he just go out and get a buzz cut this weekend, or would network have to approve? I'll probably lead with that. No, I'll probably have some other questions before we get to that, but I'm going to guess that there's somebody there to cut your hair far more often than we get our haircut. Right. When he sits down to get makeup, then somebody will probably be working on a haircut. So it never looks drastic. It's not like, oh, my God, you got a haircut. I mean, Bob Costas had the same hair for. He still does. It never looked like he got a haircut. Yes, Todd, would you rather be. A doctor on call? Has to be ready at any moment to do an emergency surgery. Some sort. We don't know exactly what you're getting into, or they're calling you saying you're going to the next plane to Beirut for. For Tom Yamas. Well, I probably can't die or get injured if I'm just doing surgery, so I would probably rather do that. And if it's my specialty, this is what I do. That makes a lot of sense. That's a good answer. Thank you, Todd. Thank you. Such great questions. You know, we'll workshop this before he gets in. So we act like we know. I mean, I'm supposed to be a big time sports, you know, anchor journalist here. Once he comes in with a crew cut, just like Paulie says. Like, wait, I don't know if you can have that kind of. You have to have a certain kind of hairdo. I don't think. I don't even think he's going to come in with. Okay. Does he come in like, hey, I'm a. I'm the nightly news guy, or does he come in. Remember when Costas came in with a baseball hat on and jeans on? He had a Texas baseball hat. I go, whoa, that was jarring to me a little bit for some reason. And then we went downstairs. Yeah. And he's drinking. You had a beer down in the. That was crazy. Seven Seas restaurant. That was like a fever dream, you know, I'm like, is this real? This is crazy. Bob's got a baseball hat on, jeans on, and he's Drinking beer out of a bottle. Crushing a beer at 12:30. Having some wings at the seas. What? Yes, Marvin. Sports coat, T shirt, jeans, substitute teacher swag. Okay. I should have probably stepped up my wardrobe a little bit. I got shorts on today. I got a flannel shirt on underneath. Underneath this, I've got the Dan Patrick T shirt that we made for St. Patty's Day. It's got my. My face on it. I don't know. He might come in and bigfoot me a little bit. Yes, Todd. Also, all the correspondence that he throws to all around the world to do their report. They say his name, then they do the report, then they have to say his name again. That's just how it goes. So I wonder if you need to do that after every question. Tom. And then you talk and they got to say tom again to let him know that's the out where he could start talking you. It is true that they throw it out there. I always like when they thank them, like that's their job. You know, it's like, thank you, Jimmy Lipper in the Middle East. Dumb. Yeah. Wait a minute. Thank you so much. What's your job? It's like when I. Well, I do say thank you, Todd, so I'm welcome. I do the same thing. Thank you, Todd. Even though it's your job. All right, we're getting a settle on a poll question. Phone calls are welcome. 877-3-DP Show. It's a meet Friday. We got tire rack here. Mario's getting his tires changed because he was the most valuable. Brg. Sun is out. Morale is high. Who has it better than we do? Take a break. Back after this. Hey, I'm Jay Shetty and I'm the host of the On Purpose podcast. Today I'm thrilled to welcome back to On Purpose, Cynthia Erivo. Hey, Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winning actor and singer. You know from the Color Purple, Harriet and Wicked, Oscar nominated, incredible actor, singer, author and producer Cynthia Erivo. What's the difference between achieving and overachieving? You've done something really amazing. But how can I be more than amazing? How can I push more? How can I do more? You always felt like you didn't fit in. I had to come to terms with the fact that I don't think I'm ever going to fit in. And why would I want to? We don't want to let people down. We won't be able to be happy. We don't want to break someone's heart, but the reality is that is how the way things go. I feel like a villain for doing it, for hurting someone. And this may be a hard thing to say, but sometimes hurting someone actually aids the growth of another person. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A lot of times, the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding, but the price has gone up, so now I only buy one. The demand curve in action. And storytellers with wisdom to spare. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Game seven Sunday night. OKC. Favored by eight and a half, the first game seven in the NBA Finals since 2016. Man, we need game sevens. It's kind of disappointing how many road teams have won a game seven in the NBA Finals in the last 40 years, Paulie. 40 years. I've got one. The 16 Cavaliers. That was game seven on the road. Before that, you got like 78 Washington Bullets and 74 Celtics. But of the last 45 NBA Finals, 22 have been closed out on the road about five, six, seven games. Okay, OKC will look back on that second quarter and go, what happened? Because Indiana just took off and never looked back. And then they got up by 30. And then I go, I think it's safe to turn this game off. You know, there's certain. There's a certain point differential where you go, there's a chance, like it feels like 15, 15, 16 points. Where you go, you know, you never know. It got up to 30. And I go, yep. It said, good night. Yeah, Paul, remember we had an idea years ago for an app for your tv? Let's say you turn that game off and if it became like a nine point game, your TV just pops back on and the volume's full. So wherever you are, it wakes you up. All right, we'll get to phone calls. Coming up. 8773 DP show. Great for Halliburton to have rest. Fourth quarter last night. Now you get today, Saturday, and then most of Sunday as well. And hopefully he's able to contribute. You know, he's had such a great postseason, one of the great postseasons in, you know, that we've had in the last 20 years. And I hope he gets that opportunity to play well. No matter what happens on Sunday, I hope he gets a chance to play well. That's really emblematic of who he's been in this postseason. And I was wondering, who gets the MVP if Indiana wins this series? Because I'm going to guess Pascal Siakam will probably get it. But if Obie Toppin has another Great game, if T.J. mcConnell, gritty, gutty, first one in, last one to leave has a good game, and then there's Halliburton. If he would. Somehow I think his over under is 15 and a half. It was 13 and a half. Normally it's 17 and a half. And I'm just guessing, but I'm. I'm gonna guess that Shea Gilgis Alexander's over under is 33 and a half. I gotta find out if DraftKings sent that to me. Let me see if I have that piece of paper. Big reveal. Shay gilgis Alexander over under 33 and a half. Yes, Marvin, are we working on the most random Finals MVP of all time? Well, Andre Ugudala is certainly up there. I think he's a one seed. Okay. Everyone else is normally an all timer. Yeah. It's kind of hard to win it in a seven game series where you do a couple of cameos or you have one big game or two big games coming off the bench. Yeah. Paul, Pascal Siakam does not get the national credit he deserves for a number of reasons. When Kawhi Leonard got all the credit in 1819, when Toronto won, but he was really important to that team. And then when he left, Siakam took over. He had seasons of 23 points, 24 points with Toronto, but they didn't go very far. He, he right now is plus 390 to win the MVP. If the Pacers win, Halliburton's plus 1200, it's Siakam's to lose. Okay, all right. And. Well, I was going to save it. If Pascal Siakam wins the mvp, is he a Hall of Famer? Yep. Two titles. The whistle. Three all star appearances. I need it. Two titles. Basketball hall of Fame. Yes, absolutely. Marvin's saying that they have easier rules. Correct. Baseball and basketball. He's not in. Or baseball and football. Excuse me. He's not in. Okay. Basketball. He's in. All right. I'm not the gatekeeper, but I'm like, all right. Okay. You put this guy in. All right. Yeah, he better get in the same year. Sonny Vaccaro. Well, Sonny Vaccaro, okay, I got my work cut out for me. Barry Melrose, Hockey hall of Fame. Mel Kuiper, Pro Football hall of Fame. Sonny Vaccaro, the Basketball hall of Fame. Is anybody else? I got to get into a Hall of Fame here. Foreigners in, right? Yes, they are. Hey, that one I didn't think was going to happen. And when I talked to the lead singer of Foreigner, Lou Graham, and he played locally here around the Man Cave, the Oyster Festival. And I said to my wife, I said, hon, you know, people here, can I get backstage? I want to talk to the lead singer, a foreigner, and tell Lou Graham that he should be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. So all of a sudden, you know, I, I meet somebody and then meet somebody. And then all of a sudden the police officer goes, come on, we'll take you back. And he was in, you know, just like a, I don't know, a trailer. And I walk in, he stands up and he goes, royalty is here. And I go, huh? I said, I just came back to say that you guys should be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. And he goes, it's. It'll never happen. And because they. The bands with that attitude. That's right. And I went, you guys, I want you. I'm gonna get you guys in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. He goes, it's. It'll never happen. And then all of a sudden they got nominated and they went into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. But they should be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. They got. They had some hits, man. So Mel Kuyper, Barry Melrose and Sonny Vaccaro should be in the hall of Fame. Anybody else that I need to get into the hall of Fame? Yes, Paul, we're checking. But I was going back to what you said about the most random mvp. Yes. Pascal Siakam, I don't think would be it. He's got three all star appearances. I would have to go back to Cedric Maxwell for the 81 Celtics. He never made an all star game. Never. And. But he got an MVP above some really good players. A couple more. How about chauncey billups in 04? That's a bit random. Good career. Yeah. I don't think he. That put him over the top for his career, but he was really, he was a really good player. But you know, when he first got into the NBA, he wasn't a really good NBA player because then the Celtics draft him. Go see out of Colorado. They traded in his rookie year. Yes. And then it took him a while to find his footing. But Chauncey Billups, he was a really good player. Who else? And any other. Now I'm not going to say randoms, but you know, when Kawhi Leonard got in 2014, he was not the best player on the team. He kind of broke out that series. Yeah. At the time it was a surprise. Yeah. Yeah, that's fair. But I would say Andrew Andre Igudala is a number one seed of. He won the MVP. Yeah. Marvin. By holding the LeBron to 38. 9 and 7. Could have been. 49 and 7. He could have been. I don't know. Is there a LeBron stopper? You know, they. And maybe they stopped doing that when poor Gerald Wilkins. He's. He's a Michael Jordan stopper. And I go, no, no, don't do that to him. All you need to do is let Mike know that that guy's supposed to stop you. Gerald Wilkins was not Dominique Wilkins. Yes, Marv. Like when the Knicks signed him. Knicks fans. Oh, we got the Jordan stopper. Mike was like, really? Yeah. Like I always feel bad for Reuben Patterson. Because they were calling the Kobe stopper, and Colby's head was about to explode off of his shoulders. Yeah, Michael's probably going, wait, the Jordan stopper. Like. Like Eddie Jordan, because you're not stopping me. Stat of the day, brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. By the way. Went to dinner with a mutual friend. Everybody knows this guy. And went. Went to dinner. Now, he has a habit of always touching you whenever he's talking. And I. It's one of my pet peeves. And he can't help himself. He. So he wanted to sit at the bar. And I go, oh, my God. Because I said, hey, how about we sit across from each other table? And he goes, no, no, no. I'd like to sit at the bar. So I said, okay. Right away, boom. I said, john, we're not doing this tonight. Then all of a sudden, oh, this is. Hold on. I gotta call time out on you. We know this guy, and you've known him for a long time. Yeah. Have you two spoken about this before? Yes, a number of times. Yes. We're not doing this tonight. We're not doing this tonight. So, like, Fritzi, he's been told and still does it. Yes. We go along, and then we're having dinner, and then there's a. There's a drive by where he grazes me. And I said, I'm not gonna count that one. And then he does it to me again. And I said, john, the next time you do it, you're buying dinner. And he goes, okay, okay, okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Sorry. I'm gonna guess. Thirty seconds later, he taps me. I said, he's gonna be paying for dinner. Can I get. Can I see the wine list here? We went to this charity function, Boys and Girls Club, and he. He's tapping me the whole time. And I go, john, no, we're not doing this. And he goes, all right, my bad. My bad. Kept doing it. And I said, john, I'm gonna leave. No, no, you can't leave. No, you can't leave. I said, all right, then don't do it again. And then his wife stood between us so he wouldn't keep tapping me. Drives me so awkward to have to bring that up to somebody. Well, yeah, you have. Yeah. And you didn't take the hint either. Like, he could not stop. He wasn't trying to annoy you. He's got some kind of problem. This touching. Yes. Yes. Like there was. And I said, john, at One point I did. I was rude. I said, john, if you're interesting, you don't have to tap me on the arm. And he goes, what does that mean? I go, it feels like you're trying to get my attention because you're telling me something that may be not interesting. And I was like, I can't. You know, you're picking up a beer and you're drinking a beer, and he's banging into you and like, stop. Anywho. Yes, Paul, I'm looking up the phobia. There's a phobia of being touched, which I don't think you necessarily have. I think you just don't like it. No, no. I mean, it just depends how you're touching me. Haenaphobia is fear of being touched. I cannot find the diagnosed condition where you touch people almost, like, subconsciously often. But they said it's a tactile affliction where you cannot help it and you're not aware you're doing it. According to doctors at the Mayo Clinic, of course. And yes, Todd, what about close talkers or close walkers, where they're walking right on top, you're almost tripping you by accident, or they're just in your face and your social distance is being compromised. Have you had that address? Yeah, the closed talker is bad. It is because you. And then you find yourself leaning back when somebody's talking to you, like, they invade your space. That one's tough. Yeah. Paulie, I found a psychologist. I'm not going to give the name of the school where he says this affliction is where the person who's doing the touching wants constant attention and approval from the other person. Okay. Possibly that's the theory behind it. Like, they're trying to get your attention as they're talking to you, but it's only me and him. Yeah, but right next to each other. But clearly he can't stop it because he's aware of it. Yeah, but he is going to continue to pay for dinner. Every time we go, he's tie his hands behind his back. Oh, my God. Socialize. I used to joke with Dick Vital that if I made him put his hands in his pocket, he wouldn't be able to talk because he needs his hands to talk. And I said, just try it one time. And he didn't even want to try it where he put his hands in his pockets. Buddha in San Francisco leads us off. Good morning, Buddha. What's on your mind today? Nobody happy? Me. Friday, boys. Every day's game seven. Fritzi, let's go. Let's go. Yeah. Two. Two best words in sports, man. Excited for Sunday, Dan. I have an Emmy based limerick for you and the boys, if I can share that, if I may. But first, I have a real quick story for you, Dan. I had a. We had a visitor at the restaurant. And unfortunately, Dan, next time you come to the restaurant, you will be the second greatest shooter to ever have step foot in that place. Because Steph and Aisha came in for date night. It was pretty cool. And. And dad, well, you know, you and I went to the table the same amount of times. Zero times. And on the way out, I, you know, I shook. I met Aisha and Steph, and I shook their hands and I said to Steph, I said, steph, you know, it's wonderful having you. Pleasure. Pleasure to have you in the building. And I go, I'm gonna have to let d. I'm not that. Let DP know. You know, I call into Dan Patrick and I'm gonna let him know yet you beat him to the restaurant. Well done, son. And he looks at me and he goes, what? He's like, I love that. He's like, we'll definitely be back. So it was really, really cool, man. It was a. It was definitely a moment. So. But for my limerick, here we go. Fritzi. Let's do it. The DP show. The DP show aimed high wire to wire. Best Daily show was their desire. Emmy judges said, no. Win or lose, we celebrate. So with Meat Fridays fueling Emmy fire. Suck it, NFL Live. Nicely done. Right? Thank you, Buddha. No. Okay. Nobody. That was good. Yeah. NFL Live didn't win it this past year. It was. They did. Oh, yeah. It was NFL. Yeah. Suck it in. You blocked it out. I did. I did. You forgot which time we lost. You're right, I did. Because I'm sitting with my wife and. And I said, soon as it's announced, we gotta go. And she goes, well, what if you win? I said, we're not winning, but I want to be respectful. And then, you know, as soon as you heard, you know, it. I'm listening to the word the. Because then it's the Dan Patrick show. When I hear NFL, let's go. And she goes, no, no, stay. Sit NFL Live. Then all of a sudden, everybody went up there and I said, okay, can we go now? She goes, okay. She goes, wouldn't you want people to sit there? I said, no, I would not care. I don't care if we win. One of these days, everybody can get up and leave right away. I don't care. We'll still celebrate. Win or lose. We celebrate. Todd, just to reset, we talk all sports for three hours as opposed to one sport for one hour. I just want to make sure that's. Is that accurate? Yeah, but I'm not. You know what? Congratulations to them. We get three hours to come up with enough content to win a sports semi. They only have one hour and they have to talk NFL. Speaking of which, Shador said. You know what? I do think it warrants a couple of minutes to talk about Shador Sanders. Okay, not a hot take. A measured discussion about Shador Sanders getting pulled over going 100 miles an hour in a 60 mile an hour zone. So we'll talk about that. Phone calls coming up. And our play of the day is up next. You've done something really amazing. But how can I be more than amazing? How can I push more? How can I do more? You always felt like you didn't fit in. I had to come to terms with the fact that I don't think I'm ever going to fit in. And why would I want to? We don't want to let people down. We won't be able to be happy. We don't want to break someone's heart. But the reality is that is how the way things go. I feel like a villain for doing it, for hurting someone. And this may be a hard thing to say, but sometimes hurting someone actually aids the growth of another person. A lot of times, the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding, but the price has gone up. The play of the day. This is the play of the day. Check this out. Rebound punched side. Shepard fires from the top. He hit it and that's going to count. He hit three as time expired. The lead is 30. Pacers Radio Network Ben Shepard got in on some of the action, hitting a three pointer. The Pacers have received 38% of their scoring in the NBA Finals from their bench, the most of any team in the last 40 years. That's your play of the day. Play of the day brought to you by Meguiar's new hybrid ceramic wash and wax boost protection with extreme water beating technology. The next time you wash your car or truck, Meguiar's reflect your passion. The story with Shador Sanders. Normally a 5th round draft pick gets caught for speeding. Probably not going to make headlines, not going to make Sportscenter. But this is Shador Sanders high profile. Also factor in that you're a quarterback, you already have a target on your back, you slipped in the draft and all of a sudden you're driving at 101 miles an hour, just past midnight in a 60 mile an hour zone. Why? Because this is a decision that you made. You could be in a car accident. You chose to go 100 miles an hour. You had already had a previous citation I think a month earlier for speeding at this position as a quarterback. And you're with an organization that went all out and brought in Deshaun Watson. Like the last thing that you should be involved in, you know, somebody's concerned about is you off the field. And now you have that. You already are walking in and you're behind because you were the fifth round draft. Why did you fall? You don't need extra attention. If anything you want just football related attention. Don't bring any of this attention to you because it doesn't reflect well on somebody that you say as an organization he might be our next quarterback. And I, I've only talked about him as a football player and somebody who works with the Browns is a friend of mine and said by all accounts he handles himself a, as a mature player. He, he knows his place. He's a rookie, but he has some maturity there. Well, he should, he grew up in this culture. He knows what it's like where everything is parsed when we're looking at what you're saying and, and, and how you're acting, everything. And we heard the pre draft reports, well, rumors, then they became reports. Just play football, that's all. And you can start in the NFL. I truly believe he can. My friend with the Browns says he can be a starting quarterback. You just don't want the media to have an excuse to have moments like this. Be a professional, act like a professional. This is twice in the last month, a hundred miles an hour. If you're a backup linebacker, a fifth round pick, they may have already cut you. You got an opportunity, you got an opportunity to prove all the doubters wrong. Right now the doubters are right. You got to show maturity. You didn't act that way during the pre draft. You didn't act that way during interviews. You get to camp. When you get on the football field, you know what you're doing. But when you're the quarterback of a franchise in the NFL, you're the face of the franchise is not shown what he needs to show to be that. And that would be concerning now it might be, oh, it's just speeding. Okay. And then it was speeding before. Okay. At what point do you say, you know what? This is habit forming. This isn't a coincidence. But. And you going 100 miles an hour also impacts other people who might be on the highway then. And you got lucky that they give you a citation for 250 bucks. Ah, chalk it up. You can't that position, you can't. You're treated differently. We treat our quarterbacks, our starting quarterbacks differently in the NFL. But he was going 91 and a 65, and then he was going 101 and a 60. And this is in a span of 12 days. Yeah. Seaton. It's weird because part of me is like, it's a speeding ticket. What are we freaking out about? Dude got a speeding ticket. For most people, it's a speeding ticket. Right, right, right. Yeah. Right, right. Yeah. For most people, it's speeding ticket. Yeah. Like if. But you start looking, you know, James Winston got a pretty bad speeding ticket, too, but that becomes part of a pattern of poor decisions. Right. That you're looking at. If it's Kirk Cousins or somebody or somebody who doesn't. If Russell Wilson gets a speeding ticket, you're like, ah, look at Russ being a wild man, huh? Look at him speeding. It's almost like a good thing where you're like, look at. In a span of 12 days, you get two speeding tickets. One's for 91 miles an hour, one's for 101. It's just different. You're treated differently, and, you know, people react differently. But if you're Chador Sanders, just play football. Have somebody else drive. You have somebody else, or you can drive. How about you go. How about you go 64 miles an hour? Don't even go the speed limit. Go 64 miles an hour, because maybe you're going to turn in to be a really good football player. Maybe. Aiden in Utah. Hi, Aiden. What's on your mind today? Hey, DB how's it going? Good, bud. Yeah, Real quick on Shador where I'm from, out in Utah, if you're 40 over, they take your car and spend a night in jail. So I think you did get lucky. Also, Tyrese Halliburton has quickly become one of my favorite players. I love watching him. I love his game. But I need you to get him in the man cave and fix his shot, because it's kind of what I imagine Fritzi would shoot like, and it just. It drives me nuts. Well, after the finals, maybe I can work with Tyrese Halliburton. You know, it's just another one of those jump shots where it works for him. Is it perfect? No, but trying to change that, you know, with Lonzo Ball, and I'd said, you know, I could help him, because you can't have it where it's a windshield wiper. You know, Durant goes on the left side of his head over, but he keeps it up there and it's. It's not a lot of movement. There's Lonzo Ball. Started all the way to the left and then came over to the right. And I thought, that is a terrible looking shot for a dad who was a basketball genius teaching him how to play basketball. All right, one hour in the books. Two more to go on this meet Friday. Dan and the Dan and Stan Patrick Show. Welcome to the you versus you podcast. Podcast Summary: The Dan Patrick Show – Hour 1: OKC Under Pressure
Release Date: June 20, 2025
Host: Dan Patrick
Network: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
In this episode of The Dan Patrick Show, host Dan Patrick delves into the high-stakes environment surrounding the Oklahoma City (OKC) Thunder as they head into a crucial Game 7 in the NBA Finals. The discussion navigates through team dynamics, player performances, and the immense pressure facing the Thunder in this pivotal moment.
Dan Patrick opens the conversation by highlighting OKC's status as the favorite by 8.5 points heading into Game 7. He emphasizes the unexpected nature of their deep run in the finals, noting that few anticipated Indiana reaching this stage.
Dan Patrick: "OKC was not expected to get this far, but they've surprised everyone with their performance."
A significant portion of the discussion focuses on OKC's remarkable bench performance. The team has scored 38% of their points in the finals from the bench—the highest percentage observed in the last 40 years.
Dan Patrick: "When you're going to win a title, it takes more than just a great starting five. OKC's bench has been phenomenal, contributing nearly 40% of their scoring."
The conversation shifts to individual player performances, specifically T.J. McConnell and Obi Toppin. Patrick defends McConnell's role despite one co-host expressing dislike for his playing style.
Co-Host Seaton: "I hate TJ McConnell. I don't want him on my team."
Dan Patrick: "Wait a minute. I didn't say I hate TJ McConnell. He's the guy you want on your team."
Obi Toppin is praised for his consistent scoring and locked-in performance, both being on favorable contracts which Paulaie notes as a double-edged sword for his future earnings and team commitment.
Dan Patrick: "Obi Toppin is making steady progress and is fully locked into the team's success with his current contract."
Tyrese Halliburton's ability to play through injury is lauded, with Patrick commending his commitment to the team and his willingness to contribute despite physical setbacks.
Dan Patrick: "Tyrese wants to be out there to compete with his brothers. He's fighting through his injury because he cares about winning more than anything."
Patrick and his co-hosts delve into the historical significance of a Game 7 in the NBA Finals, noting its rarity since 2016. They also engage in an entertaining debate about potential MVP candidates if Indiana were to win the series, humorously considering less traditional choices.
Dan Patrick: "Pascal Siakam might be the frontrunner for MVP, but what if someone unexpected like Andre Ugadala steps up?"
Co-Host Paulie: "If Pascal Siakam wins the MVP, is he a Hall of Famer? Absolutely, with his two titles and three All-Star appearances."
Towards the latter part of the hour, the show incorporates listener interactions, including phone calls and humorous anecdotes. One notable segment involves Dan recounting an encounter with celebrities Steph and Aisha Curry, blending light-hearted humor with sports talk.
Dan Patrick: "We had Steph and Aisha Curry at the restaurant, and it was a memorable night. Steph even hinted we'll have to let me know when they beat me to the restaurant next time!"
Dan Patrick provides a comprehensive analysis of OKC's strategic strengths, particularly their depth and bench contributions, which have been instrumental in sustaining their championship run. The discussion underscores the importance of team cohesion, player resilience, and effective coaching in high-pressure situations like the NBA Finals. Additionally, the light-hearted banter and listener interactions add a relatable and entertaining layer to the sports analysis.
The episode concludes with a sense of anticipation for Game 7, emphasizing that regardless of the outcome, the Thunder's journey has been remarkable and exemplifies the unpredictable nature of sports.
This summary encapsulates the primary discussions and key points from The Dan Patrick Show episode focused on "OKC Under Pressure," providing an informative overview for those who haven't listened to the episode.
