You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Made it to a Friday I had the under welcome to the program ready to go. It's a meet Friday at that Hambone soup and we got empanadas, cheeseburger, pork and chorizo. Empanadas has it better than we do.
Marvin
Nobody.
Dan Patrick
All right. Gang's here ready to go. Beware. I'm giving you a heads up. It's a Friday. Fritzy ready to go. Seaton's here. Marv, Paulie, yours truly and of course the very valuable backroom guys. Coming up we will give you our most must win game of the weekend phone calls always welcome up raider Tyler sitting by 877-3DP show. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, and our radio affiliates around the country, including iHeartRadio and Fox Sports Radio. We got a play of the day poll question and of course, a few stats of the day coming up. But give credit to Miami. We didn't know if they were going to make it into the playoffs, and now they're in the national title game. And it will be a home game for Miami. Waiting for the outcome of tonight's Peach bowl with Oregon and Indiana. Carson Beck, he did it when he needed to do it. It's not always pretty, but he did it and had the game winner ran it in. Now, there's a lot of things that we can discuss with this. There are a couple of plays. Ole Miss should have had a couple of interceptions. Miami dominated time of possession over 40 minutes, and Carson Beck had a couple of plays. He doesn't normally like to throw over the middle. He threw over the middle. But you're converting 11 third downs into first downs. You keep the clock going and give credit to Ole Miss. When they did have the ball, they made Miami pay. And that's a really good defense. And Shambles is a wonderful player. You know, you watch him, and he does have the ingredients of being a pro quarterback. I don't know if he's coming back. I think he is trying to come back. The NCAA has not ruled on that yet, but he had a wonderful night as well, and it was a great story for Ole Miss. And I did wonder if Lane Kiffin would have been coaching that team if there was no drama surrounding this. And maybe, you know, it's not fair to, to. To do this, but I did wonder this. Did they benefit from this with Lane Kiffin leaving and sort of, hey, he, he doesn't want us. I, they kind of rallied around this. And I know it sounds strange that the guy who recruited all these players, built this team, got you in this position. Were you better because Lane Kiffin wasn't your coach last night, as strange as that may sound? And I would say I don't think you were better, but I think you were bitter. And, and because of that, I think you played with that chip on your shoulder. But you would have benefited from having Lane Kiffin there because now your head coach could have just concentrated on the defense. And, you know, the defense got roughed up last night by Miami, but, you know, you have time of possession also. Another thing is reinforced controlling the line of scrimmage. That's, that's. That's how you win. That's how you Win big games. You run the football, you control the line of scrimmage and that's what Miami did last night. But Ole Miss had opportunities there. But Carson Beck takes it in and do we have the touchdown call here? You got it back.
Marvin
Holds his hands out, takes drops, looks person back into the end zone. He runs it in over the left side. Carson Beck takes it in for a Miami touchdown. Miami touchdown for Carson Beck. Is that the winning moment?
Dan Patrick
There's a three yard touchdown and you know, he doesn't run that much. He did run a little bit more last night, but he can kind of, he can give you that great play and then he can also give you one of those, you know, kind of scratch your heads like what was that? He got to be a little bit more consistent. You're not going to get away with that, you know, in the championship game. But they do have a home field advantage. And then you have this situation where Fernando Mendoza is from Miami and then you got Mario Cristobal who did coach Oregon. So either way you got some interesting storylines there. But the U is back and an opportunity to win the national championship. Seaton, what's the poll question today?
Seaton
Well, we got one here from Paul. The play last night was pass interference and should have been called. Was pass interference and should not have been called or wasn't pass interference.
Paul
Referring.
Seaton
To the final play of that game.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, and I usually like to look at what, what are the calls being made prior to that and so therefore was it pass interference? Probably. You probably could have called holding on the touchdown run as well. You know, it's tricky that there's so many plays, so many call calls, non calls, targeting, not targeting through the course of the game. But if you stay consistent then it shouldn't matter if it's the, you know, first play or the last play. Was there a lot of hand to hand combat there and, and it's not exactly a Hail Mary. On a Hail Mary there is pass interference. Just about every Hail Mary somebody is tugging, pulling, pushing, scratching, clawing. That one didn't feel Hail Mary ish. With the way the throw was now, it wouldn't have been a spot foul, wouldn't have been on the one yard line if they did call it, it's 15 yards but still you like the consistency. And that one, you could have called it. You could have. And, and I know that kind of taken the easy way out at the time I did think there was excessive tugging contact there. I just didn't think it was maybe enough that they were going to Call it. I didn't think it was egregious, but I did think that it was there. I thought that the left tackle you could have called holding on the Carson Beck touchdown run if you wanted to. Yes, Todd.
Todd
And isn't it easier, we see in the NFL all the time to pick up a flag and say there's no foul in the play, as opposed to the other way, where it's one thing to throw a late flag but to not throw at all. Then you can't all of a sudden gather together and say, we should have called the penalty on that. It was passing the Ferrets.
Dan Patrick
Well, we'll talk to Chris Fowler. He'll join us coming up. Because Chris will sometimes say to the rules official like, you sure about that? You sure? So that wasn't pass interference. So Chris will join us coming up. Is that the only poll question we have for the first hour?
Seaton
We're going to put that one up now. We're also going to work on one off of our must, most must win games of the weekend. That'll turn into a poll question as well. We have a couple of options here from Tod. It is a Friday, Fritzy. Oh, might as well throw over to that.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Todd, while tweeting his disappointment last.
Todd
Night after Ole Miss lost, would Lane Kiffin pass a lie detector test?
Dan Patrick
That'd be good tv. Do I think he was rooting for his team? Former team, I hope he was also going to get $250,000 if they advance to the national title game. So he might have been rooting from that angle. But also there's, there has to be part of you that I, they, they might win without me and go to the national title game. Like, it's got to be. I don't think it's cut and dried that he's like, of course he's rooting for Ole Miss. I, I don't know if it's cut and dried. Yes. Marvin.
Marvin
Yeah, kind of took words out of my mouth. Personally. I think he wants them to win. Legacy wise, he does not want them to win because the one national championship that he was a part of, he really wasn't a part of because he left before they won.
Dan Patrick
Okay, you got to pick. So what would you pick?
Marvin
I'm rooting for.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Paul, do you think that Kiffin was rooting for Ole Miss?
Paul
If he's a human being at all?
Seaton
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Last I looked, he is a human being.
Paul
Yeah, well, you know what I mean, Satan.
Odoo Advertiser
Yeah.
Seaton
Yeah, I think he was, Todd.
Todd
I like to think the best in people that he wanted his group to win. I do. I could be sarcastic and passive aggressive and be a wise guy, but I would like to think that the humanitarian part of Lincoln, whatever that is, he wanted his guys to win it.
Seaton
You have spent the last. I don't know how long killing this dude.
Todd
I know.
Seaton
Killing this dude. Oh, my ego is so big that.
Dan Patrick
I gotta win, and I hope that is it.
Todd
That being said, I want to believe that he genuinely wanted them to win, even if it meant him not being standing there holding the trophy up with the guys and the confetti and everything.
Paul
Yes, Paul, when you say I want to believe, it means you don't believe.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. You're trying to convince yourself.
Todd
I'm going to say 5149. He wanted his team to win.
Dan Patrick
I'm going to say that he wanted Ole Miss to win because he does have some guys on his LSU staff who were there, and maybe he's, you know, wanting them to succeed as well or get the spotlight going into a national title game. I'm going to choose to believe that.
Todd
There you go.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. What other poll questions?
Todd
A few more.
Dan Patrick
It's not my.
Todd
If it's not my team, I still want Indiana to win tonight because of Fernando Mendoza. In spite of him, the whole choir boy. Like, are you an AI person? Are you real with all that because of him or in spite of him, you want Indiana to win today?
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. It doesn't sound like you're rooting for humanity there with that. I thought you rooted for humanity.
Todd
I wanted the attitude, but I can't believe someone can be that. I thought Tim Tebow was. Was something, but this guy is taking it to a whole other level.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Marv.
Paul
Hold on, Fritz.
Marvin
He just said, I want to see the best in people. And then once you see the best in people, you're skeptical.
Todd
I think when you go to a higher level than the best and you're now like, oh, my God, is this person even, like, a real person or.
Dan Patrick
You never said that about Tim Tebow. You never said, I don't know. Is he a real guy would never say that.
Todd
But before and after Deborah, I'm like, really? Everything is a psalm and all the.
Marvin
Numbers and stats live.
Todd
TiVo time.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Paulie.
Paul
I've been sitting amongst Fritzi for years, but lately, over the past month, he's been mumbling little things about Fernando Mendoza. Like, this guy's too good to be real. Is this real? He just mumbles it lightly when he's on tv.
Marvin
He's just so excited.
Todd
Everything's great and you know, praise the Lord and like, I just so. Just so great to be alive. Okay, maybe I'm jealous of his happiness level. I'm trying to.
Dan Patrick
This is. That's what this is.
Todd
Who could be that happy?
Dan Patrick
You're. You have jealousy over people.
Todd
I think that's definitely what we did the same thing with, you know, with the music. I wish I could have. Be a stand up comic like that. Or perform and sing with the whole, you know, Elvis thing and people freaking.
Dan Patrick
Out over and girls crying. That's why you don't like the Beatles.
Todd
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Why don't you be more like Fernando Mendoza? Then you wouldn't have this cynical approach.
Todd
There's a jealous, selfish kind of.
Marvin
What about me?
Todd
How come you're not screaming about me and cheering for me?
Dan Patrick
It's sad.
Todd
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Marvin.
Todd
I'm just shaking my head.
Dan Patrick
I mean, it's.
Marvin
It's 9:12.
Dan Patrick
I. I warned you. It was a Fritzy Friday. I was. I came in and, you know, Fritzi was harassing me as I'm pulling into the parking lot.
Todd
You down the driveway at the parking lot?
Dan Patrick
Yes. Paul. I want to go back to the.
Paul
End of this play. I watched it another time, the end of the Ole Miss game. And it's really a quandary because it's not a jump ball. If it's a jump ball, Hail Mary. They never throw a flag with all the infighting. It's more of a pass to the back of the end zone to one guy, but there's other players in the wash. And the ref is also directly behind the back of the receiver. He can't see the front of the receiver being pulled upon. But right at the end of the play, the Miami defensive back does the not me, arms up, move.
Dan Patrick
And don't do that because nothing says like a magnet. Nothing says I'm guilty more than putting my hands up to see. I didn't. I didn't touch him.
Paul
I do agree with what you said earlier, is that it's a spot, not a spot foul, and it's 15 yards, which means you don't decide the game by throwing that flag.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Congratulations to Miami. You know, I know that there was. I don't think it was one of those, oh, is it Miami or Notre Dame getting in. From what I'm told, I was told Alabama may have been the one that people were more curious about than Miami. But it felt like it came down to Miami and Notre Dame and their resumes. And then you know, the committee got it right and they got it wrong, that Notre Dame's not in. But they did get some things right. And I think as much as, you know, we've harped on that, it's an inexact science. Looks like they did pretty well. The numbers are probably going to be crazy for last night's game and then tonight's game and if you have the Indiana story, even the Oregon story on Monday night for the national title. Liberty. While the semifinal game was going on last night, you had that situation with Washington with their quarterback Damon Williams. So he retained an attorney. This is midday yesterday. And the attorney looked at the paperwork because he was going to transfer and it looked like he was going to transfer to lsu. So what I'm told is the attorney that he just hired because the agent that he had decided that he was going to leave him, he was not going to represent him anymore. And and Williams had signed a contract to stay at Washington. Then he went into the portal and all of a sudden everybody went, wait a minute. So the attorney read the paperwork and then told Demond Williams he needed to make nice with Washington as soon as possible because his chances legally to prevail were very, very low. It would take time and it would take money. He's going back to U Dub. And he released a statement or somebody released a statement for him that he's very excited. He's all in on staying at Washington. He's Brady Quinn, Fox college football analyst, big Noon kickoff, Former Notre Dame quarterback and the show that precedes ours on Fox Sports Radio and the host of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe. Let's start at the end of the game. Would you have called past interference in that situation? Was it past.
Marvin
Interference? I personally would not call it. Could you make a case on pretty much any other play throughout the course of the game, would that be deemed pass interference? Yes, probably more likely than not. There was some pushing going both ways. And in that. That final play, I think we all know when those plays looked at kind of as a Hail Mary situation, even though it was your traditional Hail Mary, you're just. You're not going to get that call. I mean, I think I'm the only player who was a part of a Browns team in 2009 when we lost to the Detroit Lions to ever basically have a pass interference, defensive pass interference called, which was called on Calvin Johnson in that game, and we obviously ended up losing that game. But I, I can't think of another example of it in pro football or even college football, for that.
Dan Patrick
Matter. How did Miami win at the line of.
Marvin
Scrimmage? That's. That's really what they've done. And it. I think last night's game was highlighted by the offensive line. I mean, that's just a massive group, and it's hard like. Like, really understand, Dan, like, how big they are until you're at the field level, because the camera doesn't do it justice. It really. It really.
Todd
Doesn'T.
Marvin
It's. Why, like, if it's. And I've said this, and we'll get into the semifinal game tonight, hopefully. But every time I see Indiana's offensive line and defensive line, and then you look across, whether it was the Big Ten championship for Ohio State or even Alabama most recently, you just go, there's a tremendous size advantage. Well, that's definitely going to be the case if IQ makes it and wins tonight. They're just a massive group. They're physical. I mean, you know, Mario Cristobal really kind of made, you know, state this claim as a. As a coach in college football on the offensive line. And that group I thought won last night. In prior games, it felt like it was Ruben Bane, Akeem Messador on the edges for their defense, but that's what they won with. I mean, don't get me wrong, they're extremely talented, too, in other spots, but that team is led in the trenches, and that's a reflection of who their head coach is. And then credit to Mario Cristobal for getting that team to play that sort of physical style of football throughout the playoffs and for the most part, throughout the.
Dan Patrick
Year. I know we spent a lot of time talking about quarterbacks in the portal, and I keep reminding people, give me offensive and defensive linemen. I mean, I'll take. I mean, Georgia won national titles because they basically said, it doesn't matter who we have at quarterback, but it matters who we have offensive, defensive.
Marvin
Linemen. Yeah, look at what Philly did after they won those national titles. Howie Roseman said, I'm going to draft those guys with those guys. So national championships, they won Super Bowls with that strategy. So that. That. That, to me, I think, is like, it's what's not talked about enough for. If you really dive into what's happening in the transfer portal now. Everyone's talking about the quarterbacks, and they're obviously going to fetch the highest price if you don't have one. But it's still offensive lineman, it's defensive lineman. We can go on for days talking about how the style of football that's taught at younger levels and how that translates up and how it impacts offensive line play and how hard it is to find guys who are ready coming out of high school who either don't need to put on a bunch of weight and put on a bunch of muscle and develop that sort of strength and physicality. That's one part of it, but also just the way they're taught the technique and everything else that goes along with that, very different. You know, it's just a lot of that's changed over time. So they're a prize commodity. You don't have to look any further than Texas Tech, who won the Big 12, and look at that defensive front and the impact that it made on their chances of getting to the playoff and then ultimately winning in the playoff. But at the end of the day, like, that's what this game's going to come down to. Who's best in the trenches in tonight's semifinal and obviously the national.
Dan Patrick
Championship. If I had Lane Kiffin hooked up to a lie detector.
Marvin
Test, Who.
Dan Patrick
Do you think he was rooting for last.
Marvin
Night? I'd like to think from.
Dan Patrick
Knowing. We keep saying we'd like to think that. What do you actually think? Well.
Marvin
He'S. He's incentivized to root for Ole Miss, right? Like, he's still getting paid off these wins. So I think he was.
Dan Patrick
Rooting. He's rich already. This.
Odoo Advertiser
Is. Get.
Marvin
That. Hold on, hold on. Anyone who has money, you can't Tell me they don't want more money. Okay, that excuse, I hate when people bring that up like, oh, they've got money. Oh, I guess they just don't care. Then they're gonna light it on fire and they're just, they don't care what happens to it. I think he was rooting for Ole Miss, and in part because, I mean, look, it's gonna look bad if obviously they went up winning a national championship, and that's maybe part of the reason why you left Ole Miss in the first place. But he is incentivized. I think the dude's got a good heart despite some of the other things that maybe go on. So I'd like to think that he's rooting for guys too, who are going to be coaching on staff. Charlie Weiss.
Dan Patrick
Jr. I agree with that. Yeah, I agree with that.
Marvin
So. And even some of the players who may be joining him at some point. So I'm sure there's some.
Dan Patrick
Elements. No, he would be rooting against his players if they're going to join him because now they can join him a week.
Marvin
Earlier. True, true. But I think they'll, they would still have that chance after this game to figure that out. I'd like to think he was rooting for Ole Miss. How do you believe he.
Dan Patrick
Was? How do you evaluate Carson.
Seaton
Beck.
Marvin
Who I think you obviously saw in the final drive? What he's capable of, I think we've seen throughout portions of his career what he's capable of. The tough thing is, is you really have to do a deep dive into, you know, who he is as a person, you know, what maybe has or hasn't been there for him. So he can display that consistency like we saw maybe you'd say a couple of years ago at Georgia or even at points in time this season when he has those good games, he's not able to follow it up and consistently play that way. You know, felt like he was managing the game in the quarterfinal round. And then last night, like when they really needed him to, he stepped up, made big time throws, obviously the scramble for the touchdown to win. But I think you see the high end, like he could be a guy that's talked about going in the first round because of that arm talent and the ability to layer throws and anticipate and see windows. But there's other times too, when you see some of those poor decisions or, you know, him not playing as well versus pressure or some of those blitz looks, you go, well, he's gonna be asked to do that the next level. So it's, it's hard because you could see the upside there. But there's still a. A level of consistency that's just not. It's never really come together. And I don't know how to put that. You know how to summarize that at this time because I still think he's got a big game ahead of him. If he plays well in the national championship, based on what he did in last night's game, based on what he do in the national championship, that's probably all people are really want to talk about when they were coming to a draft evaluation of.
Dan Patrick
Him. Talking to Brady Quinn Fox COLLEGE FOOTBALL ANALYST what did Oregon, I guess gain or learn from the first matchup with Indiana that helps them.
Marvin
Tonight? They got to be better in stopping the run. I thought that was what ultimately lost them. The game was in their house. And this is a group that obviously is highly motivated. You know, you see Dan Lenning's pregame speeches, but they weren't the more physical team. And I think they know they have to be the more physical team because Indiana has proven that every single game. We could talk about Fernando Mendoza, we could talk about the defense, Cooper Surat, some of their playmakers. It starts in the trenches like they, they have, they have dictated to others how that game is going to go. And everything to me is based off how they run the football, the RPO's, everything else off of that. So they've got to find a way of stopping the run. That's been a little bit of an Achilles heel for Oregon's defense this year if we want to break it down. But, but I tend to believe that, you know, when you have rematches and it's. It's seldom you have it in college football, at least not until we had the expanded playoff that, you know, the team that loses is going to learn more from that. And I think you have evidence of that. Look at the playoff. If you look at every single Power 4 team that played a rematch, the team that lost the initial matchup, one, you know, you don't have to look any further than it was Ole Miss obviously lost to Georgia. They just, they beat Georgia in the subsequent round. You had Bama who lost Oklahoma who beat Oklahoma. And even in the SEC championship game, you know, Georgia lost to Bama. They, you know, they were able to win the SEC championship. So, so there's examples, I think, of that. I think the only one you could point to is or Ole Miss who beat Tulane, obviously a rematch which didn't change anything. But again, not really in the same level playing field. I think that's what's at stake for Oregon, is this team, to me, Dan feels like Ohio State last year, where, you know, Ohio State had kind of lost the Michigan game, stumbled versus Oregon as well, but they kind of built that momentum as they went on to win a national championship. Oregon lost that Indiana game, didn't play in the conference championship, but I feel like they've kind of learned from that and they've built up from that and now they've got a lot of momentum as they head into it. So I would not be surprised at all if you see a very more, you know, physical, different style Oregon team. And as far as how aggressive they are stopping Indiana's rushing.
Dan Patrick
Attack. The SEC finishes this postseason with a 1 and 8 record against non conference power four teams. Is this the future or is this an.
Marvin
Aberration? No, this is what college football has been. We for the third straight year don't have an SEC team playing for a national championship for the third straight year. You know, you didn't have the bulk share of representation in the playoff, at least in the semis, they're not represented by SEC teams. So I think when you really take a good hard look at what's happened in college football is there's been a shift. And look, you can draw your own conclusion about how nil and the transfer portal has impacted that, where now you can pay players that it's above board. I'll let someone else, you know, tick off the SEC fan base about it. And I'm also not naive enough to think that other schools and other conferences weren't doing it. But it just kind of, see, it feels like an odd cause and effect. That nil transfer portal, that, you know, combination now becomes possible and all of a sudden the teams in the Big Ten and other teams start kind of really capitalizing off of that. So I think this is going to be more of the norm and I think moving forward, you know, you're only going to see, you know, teams within the Big Ten continue to get stronger. I mean, if IU does it, that's no saying, like, who else could potentially do it too in the Big Ten that we really didn't think about, you know, three years.
Dan Patrick
Ago. No matter who wins the national title, do you feel Notre Dame is still better than.
Marvin
Them? Hey, I don't like living in a world of hypotheticals. So I, I, I, I, I'm not, I'm not one of those Notre Dame fans who's going to sit there and say that, okay, I, I, I, I wish there was a scenario where Notre Dame could have been in so he could have seen what it would have looked like, but that wasn't the case. So I, I, I don't, I even hate the fact that we have to talk about it because, you know, it takes away from all the other schools and what they've accomplished, all the players what they've accomplished. But, and, and I'm trying to.
Dan Patrick
Make great radio here, you know, but.
Marvin
Here'S what I'll say, here's what I'll say with you even asking it, it goes to show you the brand power of Notre Dame. Like ESPN can't help themselves and, and they have to make a snarky comment as they do the post game highlights on SportsCenter afterwards, about Notre Dame who hasn't been involved for a month. But like everyone still wants to talk about him. Okay, like, go ahead, keep on talking about the brand that everyone hates to admit is the top of college football, even though they're not a part of.
Dan Patrick
It. Well, same thing with the Cowboys. Everybody goes out of their way to somehow incorporate the Cowboys in. Even now, you know, like, you know, we're going to look ahead, you know, next year with the Cowboys. Wait a minute. There's games coming up this weekend. Let me, can you give me a comp for Fernando.
Marvin
Mendoza? Kirk Cousins is kind of who I, when I'm watching his tape and.
Dan Patrick
See in regards to higher, a higher.
Marvin
End, that's a tough question to answer.
Dan Patrick
Because I also, he was a fourth round draft pick. That's why I was saying that this is going to be the number one. Now granted there's not a lot of quarterbacks in this.
Marvin
Draft. Hold on. I mean, if Dante Moore comes out, I'm not, I'm not so sure he's not going to be the number one overall pick. Like I, I think there's a real argument to be made in, in his upside, his skill set. He, to me, if he came out, would be the purest passer. Meaning when you watch me, I think he's got a stronger arm. I think he layers, throws better. I know he's not as experienced and obviously, you know, he's not the Heisman Trophy winner and Fernando's had a tremendous year. I'm not taking anything.
Dan Patrick
Away. Yeah, but let's take no, take away the college stuff. Let's look at pro.
Marvin
Potential. So, so when I watch the tape of these guys and you're watching the different throws that they're making, I sit There and look at Dante Moore. I said, yeah, that's the guy I probably feel like has the higher upside and even some of the stuff he does off.
Dan Patrick
Schedule. Okay, but let me make you Tom Brady. You're. You're the GM of the Raiders. You're on the clock and the, the picket is in the Raiders.
Marvin
Select. I would. Well, again, Dante Morris hasn't declared, so until he does, I would be Fernando Mendoza. Once he does, I would lean right now, based on my film study, on both, probably on Dante.
Dan Patrick
Moore. I like.
Marvin
That. And I know that's, that's gonna be controversial on people, but it's just what I've seen from him. I've sat down, talked to them, and they're both tremendous guys. Like, I think they both can be franchise quarterbacks like this. Like, we've got in trouble before because we had a debate over like, Bryce Young, C.J. stroud, and it's like both these guys to be franchise quarterbacks, like, they each have a skill set that I think translates to me it's more about, okay, if Fernando goes to Las Vegas or if Dante goes to Las Vegas, what are they going to do to help him out? Because that is a team that's devoid of protection and devoid of any playmakers helping him out. I mean, look at Ashton Genty. I think he rushed for, what is it, 1200 yards, 1300 yards? Like a thousand of them were after contact. I mean, it's ridiculous what he had to endure as a running back. So both those guys, I think, will probably go 1 and 2 in whatever order the team see that. But I think the difference for me, again is just, I think Dante's got a little bigger arm. I think he can create a little bit more. He's less experienced and obviously doesn't have the same type of tape, but it's just effortless, man, when you watch him, the way he throws the football. And the one concern I have a little bit for Fernando is they run a bit more of a heavier, heavier RPO offense. And so that doesn't translate quite as well to the next level. You know, we always talk about the progressive quarterbacks reading defenses and understanding what they're trying to take away. I think you see a little more NFL throws, more of an NFL style offense from what Dante's asked to do in Oregon, as opposed to maybe what you're seeing from Fernando and iu.
Dan Patrick
Jets, Raiders, if you had your choice and you're going to play quarterback next year, where are you.
Marvin
Going? I. I think the jets are better positioned because of their personnel to allow you to have success. I was a part of the jets organization for half a year, so a cup of coffee or whatever, and. And I would say they've got things set up. But, you know, you just got to hope that it all comes.
Dan Patrick
Together. Would you go back to college if that was the option? You could go Raiders, jets, or back to.
Marvin
Oregon. If you're talking about being. I mean, if you're talking about the business decision and you're the number one overall pick, I mean, you're making a lot of money on that first contract that's fully guaranteed, really. Right. For the first four years with a fifth year option. No one's going to be able to compete with that at the college level. And so you might say, like, are you willing to take on that risk where, yeah, you could get paid. I don't know. Brendan Swordsby got paid, what, 5 million, reportedly to go to Texas Tech. You know, you're getting paid good money and you delay it for another year. But I'll ask you this, Dan. Jets, Raiders, the Browns, Titans, like, they've been drafting in somewhere in that spot for a long time. Like, it seems like it's pretty cyclical. It happens like every other year. So there's no guarantee if you go back to school, you're not going to have that same team in the same situation play itself out.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I'll leave you with this. Does Miami fire their head coach if they don't know who is going to be their next head.
Todd
Coach?
Marvin
I. It just doesn't line up to think that they didn't react to the John Harbaugh now being out there for them. Yeah, I mean, none of it lines up, not with who the general manager interview candidates have been, and especially if they end up hiring their general manager first. I think the thing that bothers me the most about it is, you know, what if Mike McDaniel benched Tua, if he knew that he was going to get fired at some point, or whether it's after the season or like, if he felt like he needed to put the best guy out there to win. And so disrespect to Quinn, yours, but he's a rookie. Maybe they want to see what they have in him. But I think as a coach, you also do that if you feel like you're comfortable. Like, hey, I'm going to be here in.
Dan Patrick
2026.
Marvin
Yeah. So let's see what we have in this young guy. That's what. That's what strikes me as a bit odd, too. Is just the way it all went about. It feels like, again, they're reactive to who else is out there. Maybe it was Stefanski, but it seems like all the, all the dots are connected and it's going to end up being horrible when it's all said and.
Dan Patrick
Done. Good to chat with you, as always. Have a great.
Marvin
Weekend. Happy New Year, by the way. Is it too late? It's too one of those, like, yeah, okay, you're a Seinfeld.
Paul
Guy.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yeah, like, okay, do I wait until the end of January if I haven't seen.
Marvin
You? I might, I might open up with that. I think that's a, that's a fair way of handling.
Dan Patrick
It. You could have text.
Marvin
Me. That's a good point. You're gonna text.
Dan Patrick
Me. Yeah, but I wouldn't say, Happy New.
Marvin
Year. You. I'm saying you could have, on.
Dan Patrick
New Year's Day said, hey, Brady, I only respond when people do it to me. I don't do it. I don't say, Happy New.
Marvin
Year. Oh, you're one of those guys. Okay, I'll keep that in mind. I'll keep that in.
Dan Patrick
Mind. I did say Happy New Year to Lane Kiffin.
Marvin
Though. See, but maybe that's because Lane's pretty good at luring people into situations. Like Damon Williamson, all that.
Dan Patrick
Maybe. You know, I, I, I didn't reach out to Lane. But, hey, have a great weekend. Thank you, bud. Thank you. That's Brady.
Odoo Advertiser
Quinn.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I'm not a Happy New Year. I got my haircut yesterday. I walked in and woman cuts my hair and she goes, happy New. Oh, that's right. I remember last year that, you know, I can't say happy New. I go, no, you can. I just not a, hey, Happy New Year. You know, we're, we're a week after the.
Paul
Fact. Yeah, Paul, but the debate and the conversation you're having with these people is longer than just. I know, and I agree with you. I know.
Dan Patrick
Philosophically. Yes.
Seaton
Yes. Not only are we a week after the fact of New Year's, but we're a solid 18 years into having this conversation every first week of the year, and you still haven't found a way to just let it roll off your.
Dan Patrick
Back. No, no, I'm even more.
Seaton
Involved. Say it to you, then you say it back. If they don't say it, then don't say.
Dan Patrick
It.
Seaton
It. And then you could even. Life is going to be a lot less stressful for.
Dan Patrick
You. I'm sorry, Seaton. I mean, I got a big.
Seaton
Night. I mean, I mean, when can we start saying it? When can we stop saying it? Like whenever you.
Dan Patrick
Want. I see a dog psychic tonight.
Seaton
Wants to say Happy New Year. Say.
Dan Patrick
It. I.
Seaton
Know. If you don't want to say it, then don't say.
Dan Patrick
It. I.
Seaton
Know. You just move on with your.
Dan Patrick
Day. I, I just can't. There's certain.
Paul
Things. Yeah, Paul, you could even give people a back at you when they say Happy New Year. So you're not saying it, but you're kind.
Dan Patrick
Of. Well, I have done ditto, did a fine. Or when somebody says happy New Year and then I'll do a thumbs.
Marvin
Up, that is minimum.
Dan Patrick
Kindness. God, I love.
Paul
Emojis. Oh, by the way, when you started doing emojis, probably the worst day of my life eight years ago. It's like you found.
Seaton
Them. Oh, it's the best resisted for a long time. You were very anti.
Dan Patrick
Emoji. No, when I, when I got my whole arsenal of emojis, I'm like, they got everything, every emotion in here. This is. These are awesome. Let's take a break. Our play of the day is up next. 18? He turned 18 in September after his junior year of high school, which he was like Gatorade player of the year. Yeah, he reclassified and basically skipped it. Not basically, he skipped his senior of high school. He's one of the youngest guys in all of college.

Patrick. Yes, that Miami always has like crazy athletic guys like that. They just have dudes, whether they're good or not. They always have players that just sort of jump off the screen. You're like, dang, who the hell is that kid and why isn't he at like a powerhouse? You know, I mean, this Miami team happens to be really good.
Dan Patrick
Though. Vince in Illinois. Hi, Vince. What's on your mind today? Hey, good morning there, Dan. Dennis. This is my second time being on here. I just wanted to say thank you, Seaton, for taking the Bears back back in October. They, they are doing very well and I'm happy to see them succeeding. Just wanted to know what pie of the face he was going to take and just wanted to say thank you. What was the bet that Seaton made? Vince? It was that the Bears would lose. He believed the Bears would lose the NFC north division. Okay. So the Bears wouldn't win the NFC North. You got it. Okay. I don't remember it. Seaton, do you remember placing that bet that the Bears wouldn't win the NFC.
Seaton
North? Gotta admit, I probably could have placed that bet yesterday and not remembered it today, but if I think. I don't think Vince would make that up. So I'm happy to take a pie to the.
