Watching the game last night and watching what the Lions did to the Ravens made me wonder where did the Ravens defense go? Because it used to be the Ravens had a great defense. They always had a great defense and opportunistic defense. They forced turnovers, they got sacks and they led with their defense. Now they're an offensive minded team, which is fine unless the offense you're facing is better than your offense. And the Lions offense last night was that when you have two drives over 95 yards, you're sending a real loud message to the other team. You can't stop us. You could only hope to contain us. David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs each scored two rushing touchdowns. They rushed for 224 yards. That's the most a Ravens defense has allowed since 2017. The Lions, the first team to have two touchdown drives of 95 or more more yards in the same game since 2021. That's one of those, that's old school. That's not flashy, that's not tricky. That's just, hey, we're gonna run, we're gonna run over there. Montgomery is going to run over there. Jameer Gibbs is going to run there. That's when you, you take a team's heart away and then you couple that with seven sacks and then you have the punch out of Derrick Henry and the Lions with a huge win. And then the Ravens have to go to Kansas City next weekend. One of those teams is going to be one in three. But the Lions, everything, you know, as far as, oh, they're coordinators, they're not the same team. And you know, they got, they got blown out when they played the Packers. Absolutely. But what we've seen is Dan Campbell gives the presence of this gruff guy, but he calls a Good game because I, I put this on Dan Campbell with his ability to handle the offense and you saw that last night. Now they're still going to go forward on fourth down. They'll have a couple of trick plays in there. But this was just an Aiden Hutchinson is back, in case you didn't know. But you know, you had the big play. And that was Derek Henry's fumble. And it sounded like this. Jackson hands it to Henry, five balls.
Caller
Out, picked up by the Lion.
Dan Patrick
They've got it inside the 20 yard line. DJ re the football in his hands. The Lions stripped it away from Derrick Henry. What a big turn of events.
Caller
And the Lions have got it now.
Dan Patrick
And it's the punch out that, that's, you know, and it started with Peanut Tillman with the Bears. I think he's the godfather of the punch out. But here's three fumbles with Derek Henry and two of those fumbles have cost them dearly, cost them the game. Here's Derek Henry on his fumbling issues. Crazy right now. Three games straight in my career, straight straight. Fumbles and critical moments. Yeah, ain't a good shot. I apologize to Slot Nation and I just keep working and get this fixed. Yeah, you just don't expect that. And I always go back to Tiki Barber when he had his fumbling issues with the Giants and nearly cost him his job. And then he learned how to hold the ball differently and he, he was, he ran almost like Forrest Gump with his arms up really high. But he wasn't fumbling anymore and has had a borderline hall of Fame career because of that. But with Derek Henry and the punch outs, and this is. If you can't tackle him, then go for the ball. I certainly understand that. I wouldn't want to tackle him. But if you can go for that punch out, and plus these defensive players are allowed to hit the opposition like you can punch somebody in the arm. I mean, there's, there's nothing, there's no rules against that. And if you go back to. I don't know if it was hard knocks and Seaton probably can give you better information on it. I didn't see it, but Seaton told me about it when Aaron Rodgers was mad at Max Crosby because Max Crosby on every play was hitting Aaron Rodgers in his passing army.
Paulie
Yeah, I think it was Aaron Rodgers. It was definitely Max Crosby though. And whoever the quarterback was, if it wasn't Aaron Rodgers, I apologize. But he, every time Max Crosby even got near him, he punched him in his throwing arm, right in the shoulder. He'd punch him. And the quarterback, it's like, dude, stop, man. You know what you're doing? He's like. Max Crosby's like, what?
Dan Patrick
What?
Paulie
I don't. What do you mean? What do you mean? Every time he went by him, bang, just smashed him right in the throwing shoulder, right in the arm.
Dan Patrick
But you're allowed to do that if you're a defensive player. I can wind up and say, I'm going for the ball. I can try to punch you, and worst case scenario, I'm going to hit you in the arm. Yeah. Paulie.
Seton
All three of Derrick Henry's fumbles this season are off punch outs. And I went back and looked. He never has had more than five in a single season. So maybe it's not Derrick Henry. It's the new play for the defenders. I asked our stats people to look at this. From 2018 to 2023, there was an average of about 120 fumbles per year by NFL running backs. Last year jumped to 140. This year, it's on pace for 160.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seton
So in the past two years, fumbles for running backs are up quite a bit.
Dan Patrick
All right, we'll come up with a poll question. Got our play of the day coming up as well. And phone numbers. 877-3-DP-SHOP SEATON. What are we going to go with? First hour of the program?
Paulie
Let's see. Well, we have a random one here that maybe I'll save for a second, but who's in better shape right now, the Ravens or the Chiefs?
Dan Patrick
It feels like we've seen the best that the Ravens are going to be from the standpoint of offense. You know, you lose to Buffalo, no shame in that. You lose to the Lions, the way you lost to the Lions would be really disconcerting because I don't. Ray Lewis didn't walk in through the door. Terrell Suggs isn't walking through the door. Ed Reed is not walking through the door. You got to score a lot of points. Now. You do have the potential to do that because Lamar did have a good passing night. It's. It's almost as if. And Troy Aikman said this on the broadcast, he's like, hey, I wouldn't rush Lamar Jackson. I would have as many defensive backs as possible because I don't want him to run. I. I can have him stay in the pocket. We can eventually get to him. And that's what they did last night. They had seven sacks on him. It seems. I'm. I don't Think he's ever been sacked that many times, even close to that? Because you would think he would be able to get away, but they kept him in the pocket and then you have the secondary is like, you know, we're going to bottle up their, their receivers and it worked. Now, I did have a good passer rating and threw for three touchdowns, but what the Lions did was an interesting philosophy, but it still goes back to the Ravens defense. The Chiefs have a good defense now. They don't have the offense that the Ravens have, but I do think once they get a couple of their wide receivers back, then we're going to see if Kansas City is real. And maybe Kansas City still has Tyree Kill in play because I don't think the Dolphins are going anywhere. Yes, Todd, I think the Ravens are.
Todd
In better shape only from a division standpoint. With Joe Burrow out, the Browns aren't anything even though they snuck past the the Packers. But Denver and the Raiders and Chiefs, granted they're all one and two, but just looking at the AFC north and af, I'd be more comfortable as a Raven fan in the long run this year.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it's a great point. If you buy into is Denver going to be like they were last year? The Chargers, they got injuries. Najee Harris out for the season. So yeah, I certainly understand putting divisional play in there. Nick Bose is done for the year. Another injury for the 49ers. Wow. An ACL tear and Naji Harris's ACL with the Chargers. What other or Achilles? What. What else do we have seen?
Paulie
Tier one of the nfc. Paul just sent this over. Tier one of the nfc. Is that the Eagles alone or the Eagles and the Lions?
Dan Patrick
Well, I would put the packers in there too. I mean, the packers blew out the Lions, so. And granted they, I know they lost to Cleveland, but if we're going recency bias, then I understand that. But Green Bay did beat Detroit head up. I would, I would put three teams in there. I mean, I still think the Rams are in that top five in the nfc, but I would say and I think the Eagles would look great. I mean, they needed heroic performance by Jalen Hurts and a blocked field goal. I would say Lions, Packers, Rams, Eagles. That'd be my top, my top four. What else?
Paulie
Do you read books?
Dan Patrick
I try.
Paulie
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Often. Yes.
Paulie
Here and there or no.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Mike Florio came in yesterday and he's got a new book and he want to know because I have all these books in here. I have a huge wall of books. And he goes, do you Read books. And I go, no, I mean I tried to, I just don't have the attention span. I try, I look like I read a lot of books, but I read a lot of articles. I'm, I can, I can last through an article, unless it's a really long article and then it takes me a couple of days to get through that really long article. I just, I, I, I lose interest. The same thing with TV shows. You know, there's a series on and you know, my wife will say, man, you really like severance? And then I watched I think 12 minutes and I was done. And she goes, how did, how do you only give it 12 minutes? I go hun, you gotta capture, capture my attention or I'm gone.
Seton
Yeah, Paulie, but what kind of articles? Those deep dive Vanity Fair articles or like those Us Weekly six paragraph articles.
Dan Patrick
I probably could, you know, get through a Vanity Fair article or GQ or Esquire, but you know, Us Weekly, you know, if I'm at the physical therapist, I'm gonna look at that. When they say, Mr. Patrick, we're ready for you. Hold on, I'm, I'm reading something here. Timothy Chalamet has got a new haircut. Hold on, I'll be there.
Todd
Yes, Todd, is it completely attention span or do you ever get intended by the size of a book? Like I can deal with like an 150 page book, but can you sit down with some four or five hundred page thing, a novel? I'm like, I'm never going to get through this.
Dan Patrick
This will take a year. I can't do it. And then my wife is in a book club, so she's reading a book a week. And then I'm like, okay. I said, and then she'll say, hey, you know, you should read this book. And then she'll give it to me and then she realizes that I didn't read the book and I just say I'm, you know, I'll read the COVID and what, you know, people are saying about it, but it's, it's just, even when we have guests on and they have a book out, I'll read reviews on it, but, and sometimes I'll go through and get excerpts. You know, Seth Wickersham wrote an article about the quarterback and I actually read a lot, you know, I just skipped chapters and, and I was just looking for whatever I found interesting. But yeah, it's a shame because I am not a good reader. Never have been.
Seton
Yes, Paulie, follow up question on do you read books? Is listening to a Book on tape. Reading a book.
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna give you credit for it. Yeah.
Seton
Partial credit or full credit?
Dan Patrick
I'll give you full credit.
Seton
Your voice went up a little.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I'll give you full credit. I mean, somebody's reading the book to you, but that's okay. I'm fine with that. Yes. Todd, that.
Todd
To me, that's like a audio movie or something. I don't know if that's reading a book. I think, you know, flipping the pages, even if you're using technology and you're moving it with your finger across the board or whatever, I just. That sounds like.
Dan Patrick
I don't know.
Todd
I'm not gonna say cheating. It's not the book experience, in my opinion. It's being read to you.
Dan Patrick
Well, it's either that or Cliff Notes version. And I was king of the Cliff Notes version, by the way. It's Cliff's Notes.
Seton
Cliff's notes?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
As in his personal notes?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it's cliffs. I don't know. I mean, I don't know Cliff, but Cliff's Notes. I remember I would. I'd read those. Yeah. If you said I could do Cliff Notes or I could have somebody read me a book, I'd rather somebody read me a book instead of me just cheating off somebody's paper. Yes.
Paulie
That's kind of like. They're actually called Brussels sprouts.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
It's not Brussels sprouts. They're Brussels sprouts from Brussels.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Yes.
Todd
You ever use Monarch Notes? That was another thing. Clip notes were yellow, but there was also a red book called Monarch Notes. They both kind of did the same thing, and they were, like, in competition with each other for some reason. Monarch Notes and clip Notes. So you don't have to read the book when you get the assignment.
Dan Patrick
Todd. I wasn't a good student.
Paulie
I didn't care enough to actually do the Cliffs Notes.
Dan Patrick
I just, like.
Paulie
I'll just wing it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I. I wasn't a good student. I waste my money on these, I'm ashamed to admit. Bad student. Whenever I would tell my kids about grades and, you know, studying, and they go, well, you didn't. I said, yeah, I know, but. And you're successful. Yeah, I know, but still. And then I'm like, you know, talk to your mom. Yes.
Paulie
That's the worst part of, like, you're talking to your kid about, like, hey, man, you really got to study and do it. Like, trust me.
Dan Patrick
All right?
Paulie
You really want to.
Dan Patrick
Why?
Paulie
Why do I have to trust you? Well, because you want your life to work out.
Dan Patrick
You're great.
Paulie
You want to do, like, whatever. So you're not happy with the way.
Dan Patrick
Your life worked out?
Paulie
Yeah, no, I am. I'm just saying. So what, you think it could be better? Dude, don't do this to me, all right? I'm just telling you, you got to study.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, all right.
Paulie
Don't twist my words.
Dan Patrick
Damn kids. Yes, Paul.
Seton
Lastly, just on this theme, it's Cliff's notes, Brussels sprouts. Is it Ruth's Chris Steakhouse?
Dan Patrick
Ruth.
Seton
Ruth, Chris. Is there an apostrophe?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, that's.
Seton
That's hard to say.
Dan Patrick
I know.
Seton
What's the genesis of that?
Dan Patrick
I think it's Chris is maybe her son.
Todd
Huh?
Dan Patrick
I don't know.
Paulie
I think Ruth took it over from.
Dan Patrick
Is it Ruth? Chris? You know what? Let me take a break here. I mean, we're getting into a real, you know, heavy topic.
Seton
We're learning, though.
Dan Patrick
Yes, yes.
Todd
Just lose the ego. You have to put Ruth on it. Just if it's Chris's Steakhouse, so you're the owner. But why do you have to get Ruth in there?
Dan Patrick
I could be just making that up.
Todd
You may be right. It's a terrible name.
Dan Patrick
I might be making that.
Paulie
Is it like, man, this steakhouse is so Chris.
Dan Patrick
No, it's. It's Ruth.
Paulie
Yeah, right. Ruth's Steakhouse is like.
Dan Patrick
So it's not Ruth. It's Ruth. Chris, let me take a break. Welcome to the program. Just getting started on this Tuesday. We're back after this Dan Patrick show. Settle on Our poll question, we stumbled upon Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for some reason. And, Oh, I think it's Cliffs Notes instead of Cliff Notes and then Brussels sprouts. So I guess the woman Ruth bought a steakhouse that was called Chris's Steakhouse, and so she just kept the Chris Steakhouse, but it was Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Is that how the story goes? Yeah.
Seton
When she. It was a steakhouse as popular in New Orleans back in, like, 1920s and 30s and 40s, she bought it in 65. A woman named Ruth Fertile. Her advisor said keep the name in some fashion because it already had branding. So when she expanded, it became Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. She actually told Fortune magazine she hated the name, but she was talked into it.
Dan Patrick
Were there more Chris Steakhouses?
Seton
They wanted to keep him from redoing another steakhouse of the name Chris Steakhouse. Like, control the branding, I guess.
Dan Patrick
Oh, okay.
Seton
But they got pretty big in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. I've been there before. They're still around. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
Todd
A little tough if you have a list for something.
Dan Patrick
Well, I've been there. Yeah.
Todd
That's why I never go there. I'll just get a Swanson Hungry Man Dinner and call it a night.
Dan Patrick
See? You'd rather not go there because you don't want to.
Todd
I'd love the fancy dinner, but I can't really say the name. If I can't say the name, I'm not going to die.
Dan Patrick
Bruce. Chris. Chris. Coming.
Todd
Table for two, please.
Dan Patrick
Lamar Jackson sacked seven times, matching a career high. He was sacked seven times by the Steelers back in 2021. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that. What? Stat of the day. Thank you, Ron Burgundy. Keith and Chico leads us off. Good morning, Keith. Welcome back.
Caller
Hey, guys. Good morning. I'm just here to give the Lions their credit for last night, starting with the defense. They get seven sacks on Lamar. Obviously, that ties his single game record, which he just pointed out. So very impressive there. Aiden Hutchinson makes his return. He gets a second. Forces a fumble in the second half. They really needed him back, and you can see how it helped everyone else on the defense. Offensive line for Detroit played great to over 200 yards on the ground, four rushing touchdowns, all while golf gets sacked zero times. Good job to the O line. Lamar getting his kneecaps bitten off with the Lions getting constant pressure on him. He seemed to be a little indecisive in the pocket as the game went on. I thought he could have avoided some sacks had he chose to run sooner in his progressions. Also, Derek Henry losing that fumble, costing his team a late game possession again. He's got to call Tiki Barber and get that thing high and tight. Thanks, guys. Have a great day.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Keith. Do we think Keith was reading that?
Todd
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seton
I think he may have been reading that.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Paulie
It was. I appreciate him trying to stay on topic and be precise.
Dan Patrick
Hey, he was organized and well prepared. He was like an analyst there.
Paulie
He kept it high and tight.
Dan Patrick
Let's see James in Virginia. Hi, James.
Caller
Good morning, brother. Happy Tuesday. DP Dan X. Salute the commanders, man. Wow. If there's one thing I think the Baltimore Ravens are missing is another elite receiver. Andrews is great. We can't continue to lead the team in receptions and yards. Only five catches from the top wide receiver, Bateman. They need someone that can take it over the top. I don't know what's gonna happen in Miami, man, but I think Tyreek Hill can really help that offense. As far as the pumblings go, that last one came from behind. He didn't really see it. Does have to hold it tighter, but he's one of the best in the game. I trust Derrick Henry all the way. I think the ratings don't make the playoffs. Without a doubt, man. I don't see any reason why not. But if they can add a playmaking receiver to go along with Dave Flowers and Bateman. Game changer, man. Y' all have a great day, gentlemen. I definitely wasn't reading it.
Dan Patrick
All right, James. Thank you. We get people breaking this game down here. I like it. I think the Steelers have backed off interest in Tyreek Hill, at least from what I've read. But that doesn't mean it won't heat up again, because I think it will. If Dolphins lose a couple more, then all of a sudden you gotta really. That's where you have to be honest with your team. And be honest as early as you can. So you start preparing for next season, you know who's gonna be here, who's not. Is there anything we can do to better ourself for next year? And you don't want to say that. You don't want to say it after three games or four games. But sometimes reality sets in and you can't avoid it. Richard in Indianapolis. Hi, Richard. What's on your mind?
Caller
ADP sticks one bought a pork tenderland sandwich away from three Bills. Hey, Dan, I just wanted to ask really quickly what your thoughts on the willingness of pundits to move the goal post for some teams. For example, you know, Indiana beats up on Illinois, and, well, Illinois is probably just a bad team, and Syracuse goes down to Clemson, and Clemson's got a real problem. Well, Syracuse might have a really good team, and Notre Dame beats Purdue, lets them score 30 at home, and somehow they're on their way to the College Football Playoff, and this is their redemption. And I just wonder how we can just shift these narratives because of the name on the front of the jersey.
Dan Patrick
Well, I think, and this is my observation is you will have a lot of analysts, a lot of opinions, and not very many people are watching games. They're watching highlights, and there's a lot of college football to watch. And I watched Indiana, but I was given a heads up that this is a really fun, explosive offense. And that was a week ago. And so I'm watching this game with Illinois, and Illinois likes to run the football. But that's. I mean, I've. I'm a Heisman voter and I do watch a lot of football, and I watch a lot of random football as well. But I think you get people who have opinions and they're based in tradition. Maybe Syracuse does have a really good team. I mean, they struggle to beat UConn, but you win against Clemson, that's saying something. Oklahoma State's not good. Are they that bad that Oregon blows him out by 60? Maybe. I don't know how good USC is. I've watched, but I don't know how good they are. They got Illinois coming up. I mean, we're going to find out if Illinois should have been in the top 25 to begin with. Yes.
Paulie
Eden, it's kind of like. It reminds me of. Why would we give the Chiefs the benefit of the doubt but not the Ravens? Because the Chiefs have been there, they've done it. They've shown that they're an absolute powerhouse who know how to sort of get over the top of that hill, where that's. The Ravens haven't. Certainly haven't won in a while.
Dan Patrick
Proof of concept.
Paulie
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
So, you know, a team that sort of bubbles up like Syracuse, all of a sudden, they don't get the same benefit of the doubt as a Clemson.
Dan Patrick
But Indiana should get the benefit of the doubt because last year they were in the playoffs. And I remember somebody saying to me, who's this year's Indiana? And then I said after the Illinois game, indiana is this year's Indiana. Yes.
Paulie
Is one year good enough to get you over that, get you that benefit of the Doubt.
Dan Patrick
I don't know that it is recency bias. Yes. Because Indiana was good last year. If the team is good last year, then I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt because I'm assuming that you still have your coaching core and maybe your star players. It's when you lose your quarterback or wide, you know, those kind of your star players, then I'm not going to give it to you on name alone now. Notre Dame. Notre Dame. I expect to run the table. Defense is the issue. And that's where I'm wondering if the head coach all of a sudden takes over the defense. But they do have some offensive, you know, really explosive players, some fun players. They, they just, I mean, they lost two tough games. Miami's the number two team in the country. Texas A and M is the top 10 team. I have to be fair to that, that Notre Dame lost two tough games. Shouldn't have lost the A and M game. Miami was the better team.
Seton
Yeah, Paulie, I think it takes like what Seton was saying sometimes years to get that stigma of they're not really a serious college football school. You go back a generation to Boise State. They had to win 11 games a couple times. Then we put them in the big dance. And Indiana, they had Michael Pennix a few years ago. They, they've been relevant now for five or six years, up and down, but it takes a while to shake off that. Well, that's a cute story, but they're not a big boy yet.
Dan Patrick
And I think Boise State. Does Boise State have the second most wins since 2000 in college football? I don't know. Once again, random stat, but for some reason I thought they had the second most wins since 2000. Yes, Paulie.
Seton
Yeah, that would probably be right. I would, I would have to check it, but looking at that, they average about 11 wins a year for the past 20 years. Yeah, I bet Gonzaga's the number one for college basketball.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. But we, we do tend to look at the cute store. Like Gonzaga is a powerhouse, but we tend to look at them and they go, man, look at that mid major. Look at that little team there. You got some guys who can play a little bit there. I mean, Chad Holmgren went there for a year. They've had guys go to the NBA. Yeah, Marvin.
Todd
But they needed to do it on a consistent basis for about 10 years until we took them serious. And they could get guys like a Chet Holmgren to come to Gonzaga.
Dan Patrick
Let's see, what else do we have here? Mikey in Syracuse. Hi, Mikey. What's on your mind.
Caller
My good buddy Dan Patrick.
Dan Patrick
How are you, my friend? Good, good. Mike.
Caller
Third time caller, longtime listener officially weighing in 59175. Thank you. Thank you. Michael Jordan, the goal of basketball came out of retirement. Tom Brady, the goat of football kind of came out of retirement. Dan Patrick, coming out of retirement. Let's say the mothership or another big.
Dan Patrick
Nope, nope, nope. I haven't retired yet to come back. But no, I, I've had opportunities, I've had opportunities with other places, but I, I don't want to do TV on a full time basis. I just want to do this show. But I've had opportunities, game shows, hosting things, and this is what I want to do. But I still have two and a half years left before I announce my comeback. Oh, Todd's really interested now.
Todd
No, I wanted to just add, you can never say never about anything in life. You can't say 100%. Never. When you wrap things up in February, 2028 or whatever, if there's some special opportunity, may not be full time, maybe it's some kind of cool part time thing. Well, I can do that once a month. I can do that.
Dan Patrick
Well, that's not really a comeback because I'm still going to be doing things. I'm just not going to do something Monday through Friday.
Todd
Yeah, but most people think retirement is, I'm sitting on a hammock with chips and a, in a Mountain Dew and I'm going to go travel the world and I'm not working at all.
Dan Patrick
But that's what you, that's what I consider retirement.
Todd
Retiring and dabbling in stuff. I guess, you know, that's like hobbies, like learning how to put a guitar or something.
Dan Patrick
I can, could you imagine me doing that?
Todd
Definitely not.
Dan Patrick
No, I can't. Yeah, I, I'll be doing something. I'm just, I, you know, the, the daily routine. I'm gonna give that up. I've been selfish for a long time. When you think about it, it's been about my career with my family and, you know, I promised my wife I'd be like one of these days, you know, I'll be around.
Seton
Well, you'll be home for like three weeks and she'll be like you working anytime soon.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Be careful what you ask. Yes.
Todd
Todd, I think you're too hard on yourself because our employers can be selfish too and give you guilt trips. Can you do this shift? Can you do that shift? But it's my kid's birthday. Yeah, we really need you Someone called and sick and. Right. There was a period of time where you felt like you had to say yes to everything. I did always be available and miss family thing.
Dan Patrick
I did. I did. Absolutely. I missed a lot of different things. I was being selfish. Yes.
Seton
Paulie, I have an idea for your post retirement job. Would you like it now or later off the air?
Dan Patrick
Like later, Two and a half years or today?
Seton
I could save for two and a half years or I could do it all.
Dan Patrick
No, you could do it right now.
Seton
Okay.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seton
I look at what you do and have done very similar to what David Letterman did and over his career, a lot of work, multiple days a week. It's a grind of a daily show. I could see you very much doing what David Letterman did and doing a focused interview show with athletes and others after your career here is done. I think that would keep your appetite for asking questions and inter doing interviews, interviewing older people, newer people, and if you do like 15 episodes a year, I think that'd be a really good role.
Dan Patrick
It's been done.
Seton
It's been done, but it's been done. Like, like Bob Costas did it 13, 14 years ago.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seton
There's a whole new generation of athletes to sit with.
Dan Patrick
I don't think people find people that interesting anymore from the standpoint of watching them do an interview with somebody.
Seton
I think there's a hole in the industry to have a show like, but.
Dan Patrick
Everybody has a podcast. Like everybody has their own, their opinions out there. It just feels like celebrities are so much more readily available. And I don't know if you can do something that's unique, something different.
Seton
But if you remember, and I'm dating myself here, but when Larry King Live was a nightly show, you look forward to seeing who he's going to have, who he's going to do a deep dive on. And there's not a lot of deep dives anymore.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but there's so many shows and podcasts now. I just don't know if there's any, you know, who's interesting, who hasn't been interviewed or doesn't allow people to interview. Yeah, see?
Paulie
Yeah. I think, respectfully, I think you're looking at this completely wrong in that you're known as one of the best interviewers in the business. So the point is you're interviewing them, not necessarily who you're interviewing.
Dan Patrick
Exactly.
Paulie
So that's why, like, that's why to me, interviews on this show has always been so important because you're the best interviewer in the business. So we need to interview People, that's. It's our greatest strength on this show is you as an interviewer. That's what people would be tuning into. It's almost like when somebody has someone on a show, you're like, oh, this person must be interesting because they're having them on. Not this person makes that show interesting.
Dan Patrick
All right, I appreciate the compliment.
Todd
Yes, Todd, I was very drawn, but also dating myself. Sports look, which became Up Close with Roy Firestone. That was a show where they didn't just do X's and O's, they really dove into the person, the human being that made them tick. And that's like a perfect kind of thing for you where you love to talk about things that have nothing to do with, you know, what did you do there on third and eight? It's like, you know, what makes this person tick as a human being? That's the fascinating stuff.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, though. Yeah, well, I got two and a half years figured that out. Maybe I just go full time actor. Oh, yeah. Maybe just full time la. No, that. No. And I might do some theater summer stock. I'm gonna do awful Broadway. You know, it's not off.
Seton
Extremely.
Dan Patrick
It's awful Broadway. Yeah, I like it. Maybe I'll do that. I don't know. Let's take a break here. Okay.
Seton
We covered a lot there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, we did. We did. Marvin, you're a great interviewer.
Todd
Everyone's complimenting you. So I should have jumped into arguably.
Dan Patrick
The best you are. You're kind of tough on compliments there, you know, you just don't give them out.
Paulie
And it just basically stole my compliment and regurgitated it. Which is.
Dan Patrick
That is true. Yeah.
Paulie
Hijacked, kind of stealing my material.
Todd
I'm really sorry, guys.

Let's see, I mentioned this random stat. I thought Boise State had the second most wins since 2000 in college football. Turns out they are third on the list. So it's Ohio State, Oklahoma, and then it's Boise State and Alabama have the same number of wins. Georgia and Clemson. This is the start of the day. David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, Dan, I've got a theory as to why. Why Travis Kelsey and Andy Reid. They've had some recent beef. Maybe Travis and Taylor aren't inviting them to the wedding there. So.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Well, thank you, David. I would say Andy's going to get invited. I think that's their relationship because Andy Reid is the one who initiated contact with Travis Kelce this time. I think the last time it was Travis who maybe initiated some contact there. Yes, Paulie.
Seton
Yeah, the more you, that doesn't seem like a big deal because it seems like something that's somewhat commonplace with those two guys and they could both get away with it. If this were like a new coach with a young quarterback, that would be an issue.
Dan Patrick
David in Florida. Hi, David. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hello, this is Dave in Tarpon Springs, Florida. First I'm a long time listener since day one. First time caller six, four three two eight. Second Detroit Lions, I think are going to be a Super bowl contender this year. I was going to say the super bowl representative, but I would belie my loyalty to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who I think are going to play Detroit for the chance to go to the Super Bowl. But I think after last night, I don't think there's anybody close to them. I think Green Bay is close, but I think. I think Detroit's the answer.
Dan Patrick
Well, you know, we do this with recency bias now. I have the Lions winning the super bowl, but after I. What Green Bay did to them, you know, makes you pause for a moment because you lose your coordinators, and then all of a sudden you're going, okay, not easy to replace those two coordinators. And Jared Goff is, you know, going to be affected by this. They still have a lot of talent on that team, skill position. We've seen this before. We've seen it the last couple of years. I expect them to be a really good regular season team. I want to see what you do in the postseason. It's the same thing with Lamar and the Ravens. You can talk about Lamar. Steve Young said yesterday he thinks Lamar could turn out to be the greatest player ever played the game. You got to have rings, you could have MVPs. But you know what MVPs bring? The question of why didn't you win Super Bowls? Why didn't you win more Super Bowls? Aaron Rodgers won one, Peyton Manning won one and a half. They want all those MVPs. You know, for Tom Brady, it wasn't about an MVP. There's regular season stats, and then there's postseason stats. And, yeah, I hope Lamar figures it out. I hope he gets that opportunity to play in a Super Bowl. And the same with Josh Allen. I would hate for you to have a career where you're that decorated, you're that highly thought of, and then you're going to be asked the inevitable question, why didn't you get. Win a Super Bowl? Why didn't you get to a Super Bowl? It's not all on the quarterback, but then sometimes it is. And maybe I should have put Tampa in there with these other teams. When you look at the best teams in the nfc, Tampa's a good team, maybe a really good team playing a bad division. And you got to factor that in. You know, some of these teams going through the regular season, whether it's in their own division or, you know, when they're playing Kansas City or you're playing Buffalo, you're playing Baltimore, you know that this takes a toll on you. And you might end up with 11 wins. You might be more Battle tested than a team that's going through a bad division. I mean, somebody's going to win the AFC south, right? I don't know how good they are, but somebody's going to win that. I don't think the NFC south is that good. Tampa Bay could put up 12 wins, 13 wins. Now all of a sudden, they got home field advantage. I don't know if they're better than Detroit, but they might be in a better situation than Detroit. And that's really what this is all about. Stay healthy. Win the games you're supposed to win. Shane in Massachusetts. Hi, shane.
Caller
Hey, Dan. 5, 8, 180. I'm sitting here with my newborn daughter. I've been a huge fan for about, like, six years now. I had a huge question. You know, with all these different wins over the weekend, I'm still a huge Eagle favorite, but if you had to take a. If you were a betting man, who would you be your favorites of NFC and afc?
Dan Patrick
Well, I. I'm not going to change. And congratulations on the baby. I mean, I just sort of did that where I still believe in Kansas City. Proof of concept. And I believe in the Lions as well. But when I was making my super bowl pick, I really like the Rams. I like them a lot. Front office coaching staff, quarterback skill position, defense. I really like them. But you got to get over the Eagles, hump the Eagles. It'd be hard to go against them. I don't think they played great. The Lions, you know, they're in there. Tampa Bay. A lot of people like Tampa Bay. Yes. Marvin.
Todd
If the Chiefs go to the super bowl again, Patrick Mahomes is going to be in the Michael Jordan category. Because you're going to say Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson didn't go as far as they needed to because of Patrick Mahomes. That's going to. What's going to end up happening.
Dan Patrick
Well, Mahomes would be Maybe in the LeBron category because Mike didn't lose championships. LeBron has lost championships. Mahomes has lost the Super Bowl a couple of times.
Todd
Oh, I was just saying, as far as other great players not getting to the championship.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, okay. But I think he might be more LeBron. Like, he'd have to. If he went and lost another one, then all of a sudden, you know, we start to look at him. Maybe LeBron like. Right. Because Michael never lost Mike, of course he didn't. Never missed a shot either.
Todd
I didn't see any misses.
