But if we're honest, most people run from them, staying silent, missing chances and holding themselves back. I know this is true because I used to be like that until I realized that negotiation isn't a talent. It's a skill that anyone can learn. And once I did, everything changed. I went from people pleaser to confident.

Rich Davis

Steve Covino
And by the way, I do not.
Rich Davis
Have an onlyfans, but I just saw some girl on social media like telling everyone like, f you, I've made 10 mil. And I'm like, is that the template? Sadly for young women now, like, who cares what anyone thinks?
Steve Covino
Well, if they're making that kind of money, never say never. You don't know. We got Danny G, super producer. What's up, Danny? Hey, Danny. He's the guy with the smooth, buttery voice. He's on the phones at 87799 on Fox. That's 877996. 6369. And we get you involved. We give away prizes. We have fun. It's a taco Tuesday. Let's do this. It's NFL draft week, so lots to talk about. Rich Davis
Pro, who is going to go pro this Thursday night in the draft. You're going to find out. The Fox Sports Radio's draft party is going down 8pm Eastern. Throughout the whole first round. We got jets general manager Doe Joe Douglas, we got Jay Glazer, we got Lavar Arrington.
Steve Covino
He just heard.
Rich Davis
For two pros at a cup of joe, we got Jenny taft and all 32 picks throughout the first round. That's Thursday, 8pm Eastern right here on Fox Sports Radio presented by Express Pros.
Steve Covino
Now on this show we got Whack Diesel stopping by. He usually stops by on Tuesdays. We do some NBA Shaq Diesel trivia and we give away prizes. A brand new stainless steel swiggy water bottle. You're going to get that later on we'll talk some A.J. brown stolen items.
Rich Davis
The club of A.J. brown when his car was stolen. Pretty funny.
Steve Covino
Yeah, but you know, it's that feeling. It's the principle of losing. It doesn't have to be something valuable like a car. It could be just the principle of it, something annoying. And we'll take your phone calls. Something you lost along the way that was stolen along the way. Nico Harrison got to talk about him. The biggest glow ups we have. Lots to get to Rich, but first and first mostly. Good day and good morning again. Covino and Rich in for Dan Patrick. I gotta say congrats to Shohei Otani. Congrats to Shohei. What'd he do? A belated Shohei. He became a dad.
Rich Davis
Oh, I thought it was like he hit some more bombs or something. Yeah, what'd he do?
Steve Covino
I don't know what we talked about for the first half hour before we got here.
Rich Davis
Well, I didn't know. I didn't know if there was an update on Shohei. Congrats to Shohei. He's a dad.
Steve Covino
I mean he's awesome. I mean every day he warrants a congratulations. No. Who's greater than that guy? Who is more meft, massive and mastodonian than Shohei Otani? I mean my dude, Lindor, athlete in sports right now.
Rich Davis
My guy Lindor had two home runs last night.
Steve Covino
I mean, good for Lindor and your goofy Mets.
Rich Davis
You mean the best record in baseball. Goofy Mets.
Steve Covino
I don't care about your Mets and I don't care about Juan Soto. Juan. So.
Rich Davis
So by the way, Dodgers were off last night. That's why I'm like, what?
Steve Covino
Well, there's Shohei is a dad. He had a baby and Juan Soto looks like he's six months pregnant.
Rich Davis
Jealousy will only get you so far.
Steve Covino
I mean as a Yankees F you Think I care about Juan Soto and your Mets? No. And we're talking about Shohei. What does Soto have to do with it? What do the Mets have to do with Shohei Ohtani?
Rich Davis
You brought up Soto, not me.
Steve Covino
You brought up the Mets. I was congratulating my guy.
Rich Davis
How could you deny Lindor's Monster Night? Well, it is about Ohtani because he did become a dad.
Steve Covino
And you know the difference, though? Shohei transcends fandom. He transcends your rooting interest. He's just one of those next level guys, like Michael Jordan, like Bo Jackson, guys that you love. Ken Griffey Jr guys you loved regardless of team. You had their poster. Even though you're a Die Hard whatever fan, you still rooted and loved those guys because it represented greatness. Listen, that Shohei Ohtani and I get it. Every kid's gonna love them. I respect them. Gotta love them.
Rich Davis
The same way we had our childhood heroes on teams that weren't ours. It's. It's a fact. Baseball's going through something. And when I say going through something, it's a good thing.
Steve Covino
Magical.
Rich Davis
They're going through something magical right now.
Steve Covino
Baseball renaissance.
Rich Davis
I was talking to Rob Parker from the Odd Couple here on Fox Sports yesterday. I love Rob Parker. Yeah, Rob Parker and I were talking about how maybe five to 10 years ago, the baseball landscape was like Mike Trout's the best baseball was doo doo. And it was like, besides Mike Trout, who no one could pick out of a police lineup, and a couple other randoms, like, who are the faces of baseball now? Now, Shohei, Judge Lindor, Bryce Harper, Paul skeens, Bobby Witt Jr. Tatis Jr. It's unbelievable how baseball is. Is in a moment, right? It's having a moment.
Steve Covino
Ellie De La Cruz is having a renaissance. I'll give you the lamest analogy. I said it's like the Disney renaissance of the 90s. Remember, Disney hadn't done anything since, like, Pinocchio.
Rich Davis
Pinocchio?
Steve Covino
Oh, Pinocchio.
Rich Davis
Like Dumbo was the last thing.
Steve Covino
The little wooden boy was their last thing. Geppetto and Pinocchio. And then all of a sudden, in the 90s, they came out with Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Yeah. In between that, there was nothing. You were still watching Peter Pan. And then all of a sudden, boom. Explosion. I know that's a corny example, but they often talk about the Disney renaissance. I don't think it's a corny.
Rich Davis
No, I don't think it's a corny example.
Steve Covino
It's A baseball renaissance of the 2000s, bro.
Rich Davis
Who doesn't like a good Disney movie?
Steve Covino
When they're a kid, they refer to that era as the Disney Renaissance. I often hear that.
Rich Davis
You know that because if you're, if you're roughly 40ish, your childhood had none of those new movies. You were still watching the old crap from your parents, like, oh, Cinderella. And you know, like you said, Pinocchio.
Steve Covino
Hi ho, hi ho. You were still watch trash now. You were still. And by the way, little fun fact. Do you know in the hi Ho song, when he's shouting out the hoes, hi ho, hi ho. You know what they say? Hi ho, it's home from work we go. That's what they say, it's home. First they say it's off to work we go, but then they say it's home from work we go.
Rich Davis
Is that one of those Mandela effects?
Steve Covino
Yeah, but they lean into. You know what they really say? They say both, actually, but a lot of people don't know that. So anyway, the point is we went generations, we went decades without anything good from Disney. We went a few decades with boring baseball because it was too long. No superstars. Mike Trout's a great example of what we described. You had big names, but they weren't breaking through. They weren't household names. Yeah, it's the mom test. Your mom didn't know Mike Trout. She wouldn't know if she saw him.
Rich Davis
I mean, he's not gone. He's still there. In fact, I believe he leads the league in home runs. Or he's number two.
Steve Covino
He's definitely having a nice little comeback season by. But yeah, everybody knows Shohei. Everybody knows Juan Soto. Everybody knows Paul Skeens. You know, this is a great time for baseball for sure.
Rich Davis
And the leader of that pack, Shohei Ohtani, became a dad.
Steve Covino
Oh, you know what else helps it rich before we move on to that, the baseball card explosion. Kids are excited about that. I mean, they work hand in hand. I mentioned big stars, people want their cards.
Rich Davis
I mentioned that yesterday I went to get some baseball cards for my kids. Not cheap these days.
Steve Covino
Would you say 30 bucks a pack?
Rich Davis
30 bucks for a jumbo pack of like 40 cards?
Steve Covino
More than a laugh dance. That's crazy.
Rich Davis
Two lap dances.
Steve Covino
That's nuts.
Rich Davis
On a cheap night. But let's get back to Ohtani because there's a story that you and I were going back and forth on off the air.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Shohei Ohtani is best known for not only being a generation, generational player, maybe the best Since Babe Ruth. Maybe better. I mean, he's a mammoth for what he's done, but he's also.
Steve Covino
And he looks like a movie star, according to Donald Trump.
Rich Davis
Guy looks like a movie star.
Steve Covino
Oh, Tawny. Oh, Tony, Danny, so funny.
Rich Davis
Shohei has known. Has been known to have his dog Decoy. In fact, Decoy the dog has been part of his bobbleheads.
Steve Covino
Yep, it's famous. Decoy. The dog was part of the, like, light show, the Dodgers light show, that drone show they do. He's famous. He's a famous dog because he's Shohei's dog.
Rich Davis
I mean, not only is it Shohei's dog, they made an announcement about this dog on social media. Like you said, he was part of the light show. He's part of a bobblehead.
Steve Covino
He's thrown out a first pitch. Oh, that's right. Yeah, he threw a first pitch. More than we've seen.
Rich Davis
So the dog is famous. We get the point. But here's my second point that Kavito and I disagree on. And we would love to hear from you here on the Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio Nation. My feeling is this. You could love your dog. I love my dog. 12 years old in her golden years. My little French bulldog, Piper.
Steve Covino
I think you love your dog. There's no debating that. You love your dog, but you're not a dog guy.
Rich Davis
I'm not a dog guy at all. Listen, man, my dog sleeps in bed every night. My dog's next to us on the couch every day watching the game. My dog.
Steve Covino
How many days a week do you walk your dog?
Rich Davis
It's not about that. It's different breeds. It is French bulldogs at all don't go for long walks. You walked your dog.
Steve Covino
I'll look it up. I'm outside all the time. I see French bulldogs and I get it. Yours is older and overweight. That's cuz you don't walk it.
Rich Davis
No, it's because French bulldogs. I mean, this is not a dog show, bro. That's not the point. The French bulldogs don't.
Steve Covino
You're not a dog guy. That's the point. You're not a dog guy. Shohei Ohtani is very much a dog guy.
Rich Davis
You think walking dog is the way to show your dog love?
Steve Covino
Yeah, you know, spending time with your dog. Yeah, I think so.
Rich Davis
Huh.
Steve Covino
Keeping its health a priority. Yeah, I think that means loving your dog, getting it good food, stuff like that. Not eating your leftover McDonald's.
Rich Davis
So decoy the dog left over McDonald's. I met a lot of people. I guess decoy.
Steve Covino
The dog was a major priority for Shohei was famous in la. A famous doggy. Rich said yesterday that, well, obviously it comes second now, and he's going to hate his dog. He hates his dog now. Hates his dog now. No, he doesn't. He's a dog guy. I think it matters what type of guy you are. Basically, when you have a kid, your dog takes the backseat. That's the truth. I'm not denying or debating that. But for you to think that Shohei all of a sudden doesn't care about his dog. I think that's false. I do. I think that's false. You can do both.
Rich Davis
You've said, like, five things that make me want to strangle you. But I won't focus on them. I'll focus on the one thing, which is when you have a kid. Even dog lovers go through this realization of like, yeah, I really don't care that much. People that put. You put dog boots on your dog.
Steve Covino
No.
Rich Davis
Your girlfriend bought shoes for your dog.
Steve Covino
My girlfriend bought shoes. Never wore shoes for a dog. Do you hear this? It's a little foofy. L. A dog and I take walks, and his feet will burn in the hot sun in la. I am not defending it. I did not bite them. That's her nonsense. It's more her dog. Even though I love this doggy.
Rich Davis
You bought this dog a doggy cake for Easter.
Steve Covino
I did not. Again, that's my girlfriend and her foofy dog. I did not buy him anything. And then Rich will say, I dress him up. He has one Yankees jersey that she bought him. Has nothing to do with me. So he's. He's painting a false face.
Rich Davis
Is everything just blamed on the girlfriend?
Steve Covino
Yeah, because I didn't buy any of these things. But this is the first dog that I really sort of got into and raised on my own. So if I had another kid, of course the dog takes a back seat.
Rich Davis
You don't raise your dog.
Steve Covino
But I don't stop taking care of the dog. No dog people do.
Rich Davis
You don't raise dog. You have a pet guy. Did you put it through school? Rich said, hold on.
Steve Covino
If Richard. When it's a puppy, Rich, you do raise it. Rich said, and I quote, when his dog rest in peace, when it dies, I feel bad. He's not getting another dog. You know why? Because he doesn't care about pets. And I don't blame you. I never really did either.
Rich Davis
I'm not a dog guy.
Steve Covino
This is the first dog I ever cared about. And I Understand what you're saying. When I had my daughter. We're both dads. For the record, when I had my daughter, I had two dogs. At that time, they totally took a backseat to your kid, which is a priority. I also can't stand the people that compare dogs to animals. It's not kids. Dogs to kids. It's not the same. It absolutely is not. But Rich is saying that Shohei hates his dog. Now, the dog, you're never going to hear about Decoy the dog again.
Rich Davis
I'm telling.
Steve Covino
I said, well, it depends on Shohei. I think he's a dog guy. I think he still cares. And then you incorporate the dog, like, as part of the family now. Like, it's one big family with the dog.
Rich Davis
I get it. And everyone does that. I'm just saying. The reality, though, is. Listen, your dog's still on the Christmas card with the family. Your dog is still. That's you.
Steve Covino
That's not everybody. That's not everybody.
Rich Davis
If.
Steve Covino
All right, my girlfriend, she loves her dog. She's obsessed with it, dude.
Rich Davis
If you guys think all of a.
Steve Covino
Sudden she doesn't care, do I think that's misdirected love and all that stuff? Yeah, when she has a kid, she'll probably pour everything to the kid. But that dog is not being forgotten about because she's a dog person. You are not. So you can't speak for everybody. That's my point.
Rich Davis
You're like a person that's 20 something that says, oh, when I get older, I'm going to have just as much sex. You'll see. You're like a person. You're like a person that's 50. That's like, I'm going to get in the shape I was in when I was 20 something. Like, some things are just not real life.
Steve Covino
I disagree.
Rich Davis
And when you have a dog that you love, and then all sudden you introduce children into your life, the dog you could still love, but you're not buying little booties for your dog.
Steve Covino
So guess what?
Rich Davis
I'm not doing all this.
Steve Covino
Dodgers. Dodgers fans, Rich is saying Shohei hates his dog. I quote this, by the way. I'm not making that up. Shohei hates his dog. Now it's over for Decoy, and the dog is second to the kid, which is obvious. But he's. He's insinuating that, you know, the dog is just. No one cares about the dog anymore. It's all about this kid. And I'm like, well, if Shohei really loved his dog that much, the dog is still A major part of the picture. Major part.
Rich Davis
You know what? I'll give you one. I think Louis. Was it Louis CK Or Bill Burr? Two comedians I love very much.
Steve Covino
I mean, stop being racist towards redheads. Pick one, figure it out.
Rich Davis
One of them has a bit. I think it's Louis ck Where he's like. People like, oh, I love my dog. And he's like, but you love your kid. He goes, what would you do if your dog bit your kid? He's like, I would kill my dog. I would not. You know, he does this whole bit about like. Like you very much will decide.
Steve Covino
So Rich, by the way, the dog killer here. Yeah. Wants to know your thoughts.
Rich Davis
Fox. Slow down, Michael. Vic, you're just saying.
Steve Covino
You just said kill your dog. So this is the type of guy we're talking about.
Charlamagne Tha God
All right?
Steve Covino
The guy who.
Rich Davis
If your dog bit your kid.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
You'd kill your dog.
Steve Covino
Okay? So 87799 on fox. Shohei Otani is a new dad. Congratulations. And by the way, I totally agree. The baby clearly is the priority. That's not a debate. I've been there. I know it. I used to get disgusted when people would come up to my kid in a stroller and they'd be commenting on my puppies. I'm like, hello, I have a kid here now. What if their little daughter looks like kind of like an alien and not as cute as decoy at first? Is she still the priority? No. Ugly kids get no love.
Rich Davis
I'm telling you, dogs are cuter. It's.
Steve Covino
So your thoughts, I think. Let me make my point clear again. I'm Covino. It depends on the person. I'm not really a dog guy. I am now, kind of. I never was Rich. Clearly not. So we agree the kid's gonna take priority. That's just a given. That's just life. But Rich is saying, well, the dog gets sort of forgotten. And I'm saying, not if you're a dog person. What are your thoughts? 87799 on fox. 87799 on fox. Is decoy out?
Rich Davis
Decoy's out. B. Listen, Shohei Ohtani hates his dog, is an MVP caliber guy. Every year he plays, he's traveling around the country, around the world. The Dodgers have been around the world. Plus, throw in a new wife, a new baby and everything. Decoy. I hope they remember to feed him.
Steve Covino
I'm thinking maybe you've never bonded with a dog the way I'm currently bonding with mine. If I had another kid, yeah, of course the kids is going to take up all of your time and all of your love, but still going to have a special bond with that dog. He's my buddy, so. And you know, I see what you're saying, but your thoughts. 87799 I think it's obvious.
Rich Davis
We'll get to your feedback on Ohtani. We'll talk a little more baseball and oh, Tani, with the NFL draft coming up in, oh, two days, which is why DP's gone. Dan Patrick, those guys will be in Green Bay, Wisconsin. So you'll hear DP live from someplace. Cheese, a cheese store. There'll be a draft central the next couple of days. So thank you, dp, for letting us fill in. But with the draft a couple of days away, I do want to talk about your biggest draft letdowns. I mean, you could say in any sport, really.
Steve Covino
I know, definitely, because I just remember you screaming about it.
Rich Davis
So the ones where you got it totally wrong, we'll get to that. Plus, we'll go over last night's NBA playoffs a little bit lock coming up. But right now, if you want to chime in on this Ohtani decoy scenario, is it just obvious that when you have a kid, think your own life. When you had a kid, even if you loved your dog, if you're laying in bed with your kid, sometimes you put the dog on the floor like the dog just becomes second fiddle. And that's if that's normal behavior. Your feelings, your thoughts next. Right here. Kavino and Rich in for the great Dan Patrick.

Hi, I'm Bob Pittman, chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia. I'm excited to share my podcast with you. Math and stories from the frontiers of marketing. This week I'm talking to the CEO of Moderna, Stephane Bonsell, about how he led his team through unprecedented times to create, test and distribute a COVID vaccine, all in less than a year. It becomes a human decision to decide to throw by the window your business strategy and to do what you think is the right thing for the world. Join me as we uncover innovations in data and analytics, the math and the ever important creative spark, the magic. Listen to math and magic stories from the frontiers of Marketing on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. All right, as the great Scott Ferrell says, shake it. Oop. Light em up. Light up the phones. Speaking of great, we're in for the great dp. What's up? And rich in for Dan Patrick. No hat trick though. Just today. Just today. We're not here the next two days, so don't Worry about it. We won't be here tomorrow. We'll be on our regular time slot, 5 to 7 on the east, 2 to 4 out here on the west side. Covino and Rich. Everything at Covino and Rich. Shout out to Everybody on the iHeartRadio app and all the affiliates. What's up, affiliates? Thank you guys for hanging out with us. We're giving away prizes later today, so stick around for that. And of course, we'll be talking NFL draft.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I want to talk some draft next. But Shohei Ohtani, as Trump calls him, I love that Shohei is famous for having a dog decoy.
Steve Covino
Decoy was. I mean, he's also for the team.
Rich Davis
He's also famous for being 50, 50 and one of the best players of all time.
Steve Covino
But people love that. Shohei was a dog guy. That's the differ between him and you. I can't even say me and you, because I'm not necessarily a dog guy. I'm sort of turning into a dog guy.
Rich Davis
Point is, his dog is thrown at the first pitch. His dog has been part of Bobbleheads. And I said to you in passing yesterday, and you got all worked up because I said, well, now that Ohtani has a kid, he has a beautiful daughter. Congratulations to Shohei and his wife.
Steve Covino
He posted pictures of her little baby feet. Yeah.
Rich Davis
I said, well, dogs taking a backseat. And you insinuated that real dog lovers don't. And I'm like, no, no, no. The minute you have a kid, the biggest dog lover goes from treating their dog like a child to treating their dog like a dog.
Steve Covino
No, no, no. You did that because you're not a real dog person. You did that. And I don't blame you for doing that because kids take a priority. But real dog people, they just make it one big happy thing and they include the dog. Cause they don't stop loving their dog the way you did. That's really it.
Rich Davis
You don't stop loving your dog. It just priorities kick in. And you're like, yeah, I got a real human now.
Steve Covino
Oh, so this living thing is just sitting there, like, looking at you like, yeah, you used to love me, Jimmy.
Rich Davis
My pampered dog, who?
Steve Covino
It's not Woody from Toy Story where you just toss it aside. It's a living, breathing dog.
Rich Davis
But my dog's out in the yard in, like, a doghouse on a chain, like an 80s cartoon. My dog is pampered. I'm just saying that.
Steve Covino
No. You speak of a guy who's not a dog person. I agree with you. And you're entitled to act and feel however you want. But you're speaking on behalf of everybody, as if everybody agrees with you. And I'm saying, no, they don't. I kind of agree with you, but I'm. I promise you, real dog people do not feel the way you feel if.
Rich Davis
You put your dog in a stroller.
Steve Covino
Okay, that's. That's a little. That's kind of like my line. Yeah, that's absurd.
Rich Davis
If you call your dog your child, well, that's.
Steve Covino
Yeah, it's also a little absurd when.
Rich Davis
You do these things. But it's my fur, baby. Give me a break. When you have children, you still love your dog. I just think it's funny that Shohei now has a Shohei Ohtani. Shohei Ohtani now has a dog he loves, and his dog Decoy, just not as much. Allison in Hollywood. What's up, Allison?
Steve Covino
Hey, guys. I have to tell you, you are absolutely right. I don't know which one it was that, you know, put his dog to the side after his daughter, but I will, guys, that you're absolutely. I promise you, real dog people. Well, that's sad. I'm sad. I feel sorry for your dog.
Rich Davis
Turn down your radio, Allison. Let's hear what you got to say. Turn down your radio.
Steve Covino
Feel sad for your little dog. Waffles. Let me tell you guys, real dog lovers, they just incorporate them as part of the family. I've had so many dogs, and let.
Rich Davis
Me tell you, do the statistics.
Steve Covino
Dog people live longer, and they're also.
Rich Davis
Happier, so you just incorporate it.
Charlamagne Tha God
I know that decoy is just going.
Steve Covino
To be part of the family like my baby is.
Rich Davis
I don't put him in the stroller. Do you call your dog your baby?
Steve Covino
I do, but he doesn't go in his stroller.
Charlamagne Tha God
Right.
Rich Davis
Your dog is also your pet. It's not your baby.
Steve Covino
Part of my family. And one other fact. Statistically, they help with children.
Charlamagne Tha God
I agree.
Steve Covino
Listen, so she actually agrees with me. Thank you, Allison.
Rich Davis
I'm just keeping it real. I have a dog. My kids are with my dog every day.
Steve Covino
It's different. Like, I had two Chihuahuas, right? Yeah. I sort of. And regretfully, I'm not proud of this. Put them aside when I had my daughter, okay. Because I wasn't really that into them, but I cared about them. This dog I've raised, since it's a puppy, and I feel different about it, of course I'm gonna make. If I ever had another kid, my kid's gonna be priority. My daughter now's priority. But I still don't think that I would treat this dog the way I treated the other dogs because I'm more of a dog guy now because I kind of get it. And this dog's more aware and. And more of my pal. And he's. He just seems more alert. And with it, I couldn't toss him aside like he doesn't matter anymore. That's just sad.
Rich Davis
Jim in Ohio, you're on with Kavino and Rich. What's up, Jim?
Steve Covino
How you doing?
Rich Davis
How you do? What's up, man?
Steve Covino
How you doing? Love the show. Love every time you guys come on during the daytime when I'm at work. But yeah, you're still my 5 to 7 slot here on the East Coast. Thanks, brother. So I will tell you guys this, and believe me, I'm 57, I'm a grandfather, and I have a puppy head. And again, I still call her my puppy. She's nine. And I know how to protect them from my grandchildren. But priority in this house is my wife, my puppy, my grandbabies, and then my kids.
Rich Davis
Lunatic.
Steve Covino
And by the way, let me prove that people's love for animals and pets, it is a little absurd. If they switched out decoy, the mascot at Dodger stadium for the baby, it wouldn't get as much cheers. People love the dog. People want the dog.
Rich Davis
People love animals. People love animals.
Steve Covino
I think they throw sho his baby's feet up on the screen. You're going to get the same response. You're not the. I think that alone is proof in my pudding.
Rich Davis
I'm just giving you what I think is the reality. But people love their pets and the exhibit A. There's athletes that have been accused of murder, and people are like, I still root for him. Michael Vick, like, spent the last decades trying to repair his image for herding dogs.
Steve Covino
So you don't and you forgive Michael Vick because you're a reasonable guy. What makes you think that the way you feel is the way all animal and dog lovers feel? That's what I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying I don't think everybody feels like you where they toss their dog aside because they have a kid toss their dog? That's what you said. You said he hates his dog now. Shohei hates his dog now. Who cares about decoy? So your thoughts? We love the feedback and phone calls at 87799 on Fox. But we have to move on and move forward. We'll still take your calls, but hit us up at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Hashtag Covino is right. Hashtag show his dog.
Rich Davis
Hashtag decoy.
Steve Covino
Rich as a bozo.
Rich Davis
I want to talk some NFL draft because she said, you know, Dan Patrick's headed there to Green Bay. Angle one of this. I want to talk about what in your lifetime. Let's pick a round number eight.
Steve Covino
Eight's kind of round. It's got nice curves.
Rich Davis
088 got you going.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
So what I say? I want to say 1980. Want to say 1980. Relative of the last, like 45 years. You want to go 1975. 50 years ago.
Steve Covino
Modern history.
Rich Davis
Modern history.
Steve Covino
Times flying man. Yeah.
Rich Davis
Let's just say in the last 50 years. Round number 1975-20. 25.
Steve Covino
Okay.
Rich Davis
Last 50 years.
Steve Covino
Wow.
Rich Davis
Which, by the way, when you say the 70s, does everyone else still think 30 years ago?
Steve Covino
Yeah, everybody does.
Rich Davis
Oh, 30 years ago. You mean like 1970? Something. Nope. What in the world of sports and entertainment has gotten the biggest, as the kids say, glow up. What's gotten the biggest glow up? And I say that because when we get ready for the NFL draft. If you remember watching the documentary the 30 for 30, From Elway to Marino, about two of the greatest quarterbacks, early 80s, the footage they show from the NFL draft, I talking like, and this is not even the beginning days of it, this is the 80s. It's a bunch of dudes. I pictured dudes smoking cigarettes in a wood paneled room.
Steve Covino
Looks like a Little League draft with.
Rich Davis
Beige phones with cords on them.
Steve Covino
I'm telling you, my Little League had the same sort of draft vibe.
Rich Davis
I felt like the draft this year, it's in Green Bay.
Steve Covino
Guys smoking cigars, talking about people you didn't know.
Rich Davis
This year it's in Green Bay. I feel like in the 80s, it was in a VFW hall. Like, the NFL draft went from the most low budget looking, like I said, owners and GMs just sort of sitting around.
Steve Covino
They had like a bat phone with like, just like a beige phone with a cord and a red button on it.
Rich Davis
Yeah. And now hundreds of thousands of people flock to a city. Oh, it's a scene, it's televised. There's fireworks, there's celebrity presenters, oceans of people. There's someone in the back on the spot printing out jerseys for the players to hold up.
Steve Covino
It's an operation graphics package. It's a whole celebration. Last year in Detroit, an estimated almost 800,000 people over the three days. Yeah, that's insane.
Rich Davis
Danny, there's someone on hand as of last year. Remember we talked about how there's now people doing AI of what that person looks like in the new jersey and on the new team. This guy's drafted within two seconds. Their AI digital team has mock ups of what this guy looks like running in the new uniform. So we went from guys smoking cigars in a beige VFW hall with wood panels to a spectacle where almost a million people flock to a city.
Steve Covino
I think the NFL draft used to take place in your grandparents basement next.
Rich Davis
To that thing that used to shake their waist.
Steve Covino
Yeah, that wood panel going on. I think it was your grandpa's house.
Rich Davis
So I got asked what else in our life has had the glow up at the same level as the NFL draft? And I have two other things that come to mind and I want you guys to add to the list number two. And listen, we're fresh off of it. In fact, you saw Paul Heyman talking about Shannon Sharp on Pat McAfee Show. You see that the Impact WrestleMania left behind over the last couple days. Wrestlemania and wrestling went from your grandfather talking about, hey, you know, Bruno Sammartino, it was a bunch of hairy chested.
Steve Covino
European guys grappling such a low budget operation. A bunch of fat guys in singlets with hairy upper manthis.
Rich Davis
Let's get one guy from each European country, be like, oh, Ivan Putski, he's the Polish guy. Bruno Sammartino, he's the Italian guy. And it was just a bunch of.
Steve Covino
Forget the baby oil.
Rich Davis
It was a bunch of grappling middle aged moderately in shape guys.
Steve Covino
It was such a lowly, dim lit, low budget operation. Like think of how like glum it looked when you were watching those videos as a kid in the 80s and before. Looked boring. And the only excitement was maybe a George the Animal Steel eating a turnbuckle.
Rich Davis
That was not. But that was until the 80s.
Steve Covino
But I'm saying it was so low.
Rich Davis
Budget once the 80s hit. I recently saw a clip of the Hulkster who we've had on the show over the years. Hulk tells the story, Brother, brother, of how he paid off the sound guy at one of the arenas, threw him a few hundo and said yo, play Eye of the Tiger when I come out. And he played Eye of the Tiger. Crowd went nuts. Soon after.
Steve Covino
I have a question for you.
Rich Davis
Wrestling said, ooh, theme songs. And then Hogan took that real American song that was, you know, huge.
Steve Covino
Did the Eye of the Tiger as a saying, right? The eye of the Tiger.
Rich Davis
You hit me with a stoner saw.
Steve Covino
Right now, did something exist or did Rocky Balboa, Did Sylvester Stallone write that and it became a thing? Or did Survivor come up with it? Was that always a saying? Or is that something that Stallone invented? Yeah, absolutely. And then Apollo says, you lost. The eye of the tiger is a good one.
Rich Davis
So you're asking in the sports world, like, in the 70s came first. Like, did Terry Bradshaw say, like, yeah, the eye of the tiger. Like, was that a.
Steve Covino
Was that a thing, an expression prior to the movie, or did the movie make the expression? The movie absolutely popularized the expression.
Rich Davis
Oh, it's like Garth Kavino and I have had an argument about another one of these. I said, the movie American Pie gave us the word milf. And Cavino's like, no, that existed. I'm like, I don't think it did.
Steve Covino
Me and my friends from Union, New Jersey used to say MILF when we were in junior high. You didn't. We did. You should have saw my friend's mom.
Rich Davis
We used to say it all the time, Stop it.
Steve Covino
Maybe it wasn't so mainstream rich, but I think it was around prior to that movie. Yeah, we used to say, barry's mom has got it going right now. Yeah, all the time.
Rich Davis
So what has gotten the glow up at the same level as wrestling and the NFL draft? If you could think of anything else in society, movies, sports, entertainment, tv, you something in society that you're like, yo, that got a glow.
Steve Covino
Let's make it clear too, about wrestling, since we just passed the WrestleMania weekend. Just the graphics alone when they're walking out, the spectacle of it. Forget about the fans. How many fans were there? Like 70,000 fans in Vegas? Yeah. Each day, again, oceans of people, like, packed like sardines. People going wild. But just like the overall production, that's the word I'm looking for. The production value of the event is just, it's. It's better than the Super Bowl.
Rich Davis
Day one. I watched, I watched over the weekend like a lot of people. I think the first match of one of the wrestlers, Jay uso, his entrance was as long as like a Tyson Fury 20 minute intro. I'm like, get in the ring, for God's sake.
Steve Covino
The most majestic entrance we had growing up was Mr. Perfect's music.
Rich Davis
And he just walked down, you know, throwing a towel on his head.
Steve Covino
Now it's the laser light show. It's insane. It just looks so big. It looks like a really big, well produced event. However, you're right, it's got a glow up.
Rich Davis
However, speaking of Mr. Perfect, every guy spits out his gum and hits it with his hand because of Mr. Perfect.
Steve Covino
I mean, only the cool guys do that.
Charlamagne Tha God
That is true, Rich.
Steve Covino
I have one that is a major production now. It just used to be a little convention for nerds, but Comic Con now the largest comic sci fi fantasy event in the whole world.
Rich Davis
Comic Con went from Nerdfest to a global phenomenon where people need to buy tickets. The flights to San Diego and New York. Comic Con. Comic Con took on a life of its own. Panel shows where celebrities come in and talk to the fans.
Steve Covino
You guys know about Saw Con.
Rich Davis
Don't no. Not fall for you.
Steve Covino
No. No.
Rich Davis
Saw Con. No. No, not. No.
Steve Covino
Okay, you know what?
Rich Davis
I got. I got two more. I don't want to steal the answers, but we'll take your feedback next. Hey, let's be interactive. Let's chop it up. 87799 on Fox. Kavino and Rich in for Dan Patrick. Other than the NFL draft, that's the number one answer. What has gotten the biggest glow up over the last 50 years as far as production? The way it looks, the way it is. We got all your feedback next right here on FOX Sports Radio.
Steve Covino
Be sure to catch the live edition.
Rich Davis

Now more than ever, we need to use our voices to fight back and that's what we are doing on Fighting Words. We're not going to let anyone silence us.

In 1978, Roger Caron's first book was published and he was unlike any first time author Canada had ever seen.
Steve Covino
Roger Caron was 16 when first convicted, has spent 24 of those years in jail, 12 years in solitary.

He went from an ex con to a literary darling almost overnight.

Steve Covino
Yeah. Steve Cavino, inventor of the word milf.
Rich Davis
Not true.
Steve Covino
Me and my friends from Union, New Jersey, we used to say that in junior high.
Rich Davis
Nope.
Steve Covino
American Pie popularized it. Seriously. All right, fine. So anyway, we're Covino and Rich in for the great Dan Patrick. Always a pleasure. It's good to see you guys. Hope you're having a great week. Exciting week. NFL Draft week. We'll talk about it. Plus Buddy Shaq, Diesel trivia. Multiple choice NBA trivia. The games are heating up. Some great games last night. Hope you had a Pistons Clippers sort of night. We'll do some trivia and give away some prizes. Lots of fun always here on Covino and Rich. And that being said, Rich, before we go to the phone calls, I want everyone to check out our bonus podcast. Over promised. It's sweeping the nation. You could watch it. You could listen. It's on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. And last week we had Coach Ball Game on. If you're into kids sports or you're a coach, Coach Ball Game is awesome. And this week we got KFC from Barstool stopping by. Over promised. It's our bonus show. Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page or wherever you stream your podcasts.
Rich Davis
Nice. Live from the Mercedes Benz Studios, let's go to your feedback. The question was simple. Yeah, NFL draft is Thursday. We saw almost a million people go to Detroit. Billions and billions and billions and billions. We've seen millions of people come out for these things. The NFL draft in Green Bay. In fact, that's where Dan Patrick and the Danets are today. They're on their way. It's a spectacle much like WWE went from old oily guys grappling to a billion dollar industry. That's two nights of WrestleMania. So I said, right, old school, like.
Steve Covino
Early wrestling was a bunch of like Harry Foreign dudes and Vince McMahon Sr.
Rich Davis
Always had someone representing. He had someone representing each.
Steve Covino
Yes.
Rich Davis
Each ethnicity.
Steve Covino
They leaned into the stereotypes.
Rich Davis
It was like, Ivan Putsky, you're the Polish guy. Hey, Bruno Sammartino, you're the Italian guy. And now look what wrestling is. So I said, what in our life? And let's just say the last 50 years, 1975, I wasn't even born yet, but we'll go 75 to 2025. What has gotten the biggest glow up? And I said, the NFL draft and WWE wrestling are the top answers on the board.
Steve Covino
Can I threw two things into this?
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
All right, before we go to the phones, 877-99-FOX. As far as glow up, how about Carrie Underwood's legs? Can I just throw her legs in there? Carrie Underwood's legs. Those aren't the two things, though, but they're pretty dope.
Rich Davis
Does she go to the car wash and say, can you armor all these? I think she does.
Steve Covino
Yeah. But her. Any Idol contestant, for that matter, when they start off, I know Rich's favorite answer is Clay Aiken. Because I know Rich's answer.
Rich Davis
Clay Aiken.
Steve Covino
But remember, like, he came in looking like the biggest weanest, all of a sudden, he looks like a rock star by the end of the season. But Carrie Underwood has to be the number one answer there, right? And I know because I talk to you every day. We often reference UFC from where it started, it's humble beginnings, to where it is now. It's been an incredible glow up and fun to see because we watched.
Rich Davis
It was almost like. It was almost like borderline underground. It was like the Gracie brothers and like, if you knew it, you knew it. But not really.
Steve Covino
Like, it was prior to actual mixed martial arts. Meaning, like, that's. That's an art form in itself now, to have the skill of all different martial art forms. Back then, it was like jujitsu guy versus sumo guy. You know what I mean? It was like different styles, fighting different styles. I remember getting that and getting tough man. Competitions. It was the most low budget operation. Now it's huge, worth $11.3 billion.
Rich Davis
Now, see, that's a great example. Billions and billions and billions and billions. All right, let's go to Richard in Bakersfield. What's up, Richard? What got the biggest glow up, man?
Steve Covino
I would say rap music in hip hop, typically Snoop Dogg.
Rich Davis
You know what? Hip hop was not even a genre. Hip hop was a new. A new format, essentially. Right.
Steve Covino
I think they called it a Fad in the 80s. Yeah. You know what? And I think it's A great answer because we watched the evolution of it. It went from nothing to something.
Rich Davis
It went from nothing to super bowl halftime show hit its peak.
Steve Covino
And now we're like, we're regressing, dude.
Rich Davis
Kendrick Lamar did the halftime show. It's bigger than ever. Hip hop is here. Dave in Virginia. What's up, Dave?
Steve Covino
Hey, good morning. I'm going to go with the Little League World Series. You know, back in the day, it was just the Little League, the World Series itself. Now they have all the regional coverage, all the different teams.
Rich Davis
Little League World Series is a great answer.
Steve Covino
I love that answer, man.
Rich Davis
Douglas in Southern California. What's up, Doug? Hey, good morning, guys.
Steve Covino
Hey.
Rich Davis
So I'm going to go with the.
Steve Covino
World Series of Poker. Back in the days, it was just some grubby old men playing some poker. And then after Chris Moneymaker came in and won it, everybody's dropping 50 to go play in that.
Rich Davis
Great answer as well. And you know, Kavino, I thought of one off the sports map a little bit, but we saw the last year, the RNC and the DNC politics. It went from like, you know, they had the conventions in a city. Now they have performances.
Steve Covino
How about. And nobody really talked about it the way people talk about it now.
Rich Davis
So. Hey, your thoughts? We'll take a few more at Covino and Rich. What's got the biggest glow up? Then we'll actually talk about the NFL Draft. A.J. brown's in the news, and of course, some Shaq Diesel trivia all coming up right here.

Description: In this episode, hosts Rich Davis and Steve Covino delve into the recent developments in the sports world, focusing on Shohei Ohtani's new role as a father, the current renaissance in Major League Baseball, and the significant transformations—or "glow-ups"—in major sporting and entertainment events over the past five decades.
The episode kicks off with the exciting news that Shohei Ohtani, the star MLB player, has welcomed a new baby. Rich Davis expresses his congratulations, albeit with a touch of confusion.
Steve Covino humorously acknowledges Ohtani's elevated status both on and off the field, commending him as a transcendent figure in sports.
The discussion transitions to Ohtani's personal life, particularly his relationship with his dog, Decoy. Rich questions whether Ohtani's new role as a father has led him to neglect his pet.
Steve defends Ohtani, suggesting that being a father doesn't mean abandoning his dog but rather integrating all family members harmoniously.
The conversation intensifies as Rich admits he's not a dog person, while Steve insists that true dog lovers manage to balance their love for pets with parenthood.
Rich Davis (12:51): "I have a dog. My kids are with my dog every day."
Steve Covino (13:05): "I'm not a dog guy. [...] Real dog people make it one big happy thing and include the dog."
Listener interactions further fuel the debate, with various callers chiming in to share their perspectives on balancing pets and children. The discussion highlights differing viewpoints on pet priority within family dynamics.
Rich and Steve shift their focus to Major League Baseball, praising the league's resurgence and the emergence of new superstars who have revitalized public interest.
Rich Davis (07:48): "Baseball's going through something magical right now."
Steve Covino (08:38): "Baseball renaissance."
They compare the current state of MLB to past eras, noting the rise of prominent figures like Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and others who have become household names, driving increased fan engagement and media attention.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to discussing the "glow-up" or transformation of major events over the past five decades. The hosts explore how events like the NFL Draft and WrestleMania have evolved from modest gatherings to grand spectacles.
Rich Davis (35:08): "What has gotten the biggest glow up over the last 50 years?"
Steve Covino (36:45): "The NFL draft used to take place in your grandparents' basement [...] Now it's a spectacle where almost a million people flock to a city."
They draw parallels between the growth of the NFL Draft and WrestleMania, emphasizing the increase in production value, audience size, and cultural significance.
Additionally, Comic-Con's transformation from a niche convention to a global phenomenon is highlighted as another prime example of a major "glow-up."
Interactive segments allow listeners to contribute their thoughts on other notable "glow-ups" in society. Responses include the evolution of rap music and hip-hop, the World Series of Poker, and changes in political conventions.
Listener Dave (52:21): "The Little League World Series [...] now they have all the regional coverage."
Listener Doug (52:39): "World Series of Poker [...] post Chris Moneymaker, everybody's dropping $50 to go play."
As the episode nears its end, the hosts touch upon imminent topics such as the upcoming NFL Draft, NBA playoffs, and trivia segments. They encourage listener participation and promote related podcasts and events.
Rich Davis (05:59): "Congrats to Shohei. What'd he do? I thought he hit some more bombs or something."
Steve Covino (06:10): "Shohei transcends fandom. He transcends your rooting interest. He's just one of those next-level guys, like Michael Jordan."
Rich Davis (07:48): "Baseball's going through something magical right now."
Steve Covino (35:08): "The NFL draft used to take place in your grandparents' basement [...] Now it's a spectacle where almost a million people flock to a city."
Steve Covino (40:00): "Wrestling went from old oily guys grappling to a billion-dollar industry."
