He will join us a little bit later on as well. Big basketball tonight. Who would have thought? Middle of November Celtics cabs spicy as the Cavs try to stay undefeated. They're getting five points in Boston. Texans handled the Cowboys and The Texans now 7 and 4. The Cowboys drop to 3 and 7 after three straight 12 wind seasons. The sky is falling in Dallas, literally and figuratively. The team came in with playoff aspirations, maybe super bowl aspirations, but here we are 10 games deep and it's time to accept the Cowboys for who they really are. It's a poorly built team that continues to fail to get out of its own way. They were embarrassed last night at home, so they're in the same conversation with the Patriots and the Panthers. Nobody saw this one coming. The star on the helmet continues to keep Dallas in the news and they will continue to hear about Micah Parsons contract. We'll hear about the prospects of teams or players that the team has fallen in love with with the draft Jerry world maybe wanting to tear down the stadium and build a new stadium and part of the roof was falling and caving in last night. But the relationship with the Cowboys is always interesting because you either love them or you hate them. There's no middle ground. And what you're seeing right now, this is a juicy little payback to all those victories and all the attention that they receive for a 3 and 7 team. We'll start with CD Lamb talking about what it's like to play for the Cowboys. And when you face these opponents each.
Teddy Mellencamp
Week, obviously everybody is looking to embarrass us. Right. They have their opportunity. When they do, they try to, you know, put us out. And we had so much success over the last three years as far as in the regular season, it's starting to bite us right now. So for us, we gotta find ways. We gotta find ways to gel together, play together and finish this thing out.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. You know, the TV executives have to be wringing their hands because they love Dallas. You got Dallas and the Giants, the annual Thanksgiving Day game. Then you have two primetime games on Monday night. You got Week 14 against the Bengals, and then you have Week 16 against the Buccaneers. We love watching Dallas and those who love watching Dallas succeed and those watching Dallas fail, you get a whole lot of one and a little bit of the other one this season. And Cooper Rush did okay last night. He's kind of non threatening. I don't know if they get to the point where they go, let's just see if Trey Lance can play football. You gave up a fourth round pick, which doesn't sound like a lot, but in the NFL that's a big deal. Look at the receivers who have been traded for fourth round picks this year, maybe see if Trey Lance can play. And then if not, maybe you're moving on from him and Cooper Rush. But you're watching that Dallas team and you keep waiting for something to happen. It's not going to happen. And Mike McCarthy is basically just kind of, you know, twisting in the wind. And Jerry will bring in somebody next year, but there's bigger pictures. And we'll go back months and months ago, maybe last year, and Seton first brought this up. He said, you know, Dallas has a problem because they have a guy who's going to make 50 or 60 million dollars at quarterback. They got a wide receiver going to make $30 million. And then you have a defensive player who's probably going to be or want to be the highest defensive player in the game. As far as how he's paid. You would think that's a good problem, but it's not because of how the team is built, the other positions and they don't have a running game. And it is, you know, I look at the Texans, Joe Mixon was a great pickup. Now, America is never going to embrace him for what happened off the field when he was in college, but he was good with the Bengals and he was really good last night. This really helped CJ Stroud and CJ Stroud has regressed a little bit, but the Texans are still a playoff caliber team in a really, really bad division. But you're watching last night and the Texans do have some playmakers there. Nico Collins, when he plays, they play well. But Dallas has lost five home games, the first five home games for the first time since 1989. And they're getting blown out. They're giving up 37 points per game at home. The last time that happened, a team gave up that many points per game through five games. 1981. And if you go back to the playoff loss, you know, we may have looked at the loss to Green Bay last year as an aberration in the, you know, playoffs, but it wasn't because if you go back to that loss, the Cowboys have lost six in a row at home and they've trailed by at least 20 points in each of their six home losses. Like these are, these are numbers that you never would have thought with Dallas, whether you like them or not. And this isn't all just, hey, Dak got injured. This is a bad team. They chose to bring back Zeke Elliott. They're just not, they don't. They're a one dimensional team. And now with that dimension being Cooper Rush, you're not going to beat anybody. Now I'm looking at the schedule and they have a chance to salvage. What do you guys think the over under is according to draftkings victories for the Dallas Cowboys? Marvin, I'll start with you. They have three. How many wins over under Cowboys?
Teddy Mellencamp
Five and a half.
Dan Patrick
Bloop, bloop, bloop.
Teddy Mellencamp
Wow.
Dan Patrick
Yep, five and a half. The same as the jets, the Bears, they're over under six and a half. How about the Chiefs over unders? 14 and a half. And I, and I did want to pick up on that with the Chiefs because we're going to see the Chiefs and the Bills probably again. And is Buffalo going to. They're 9 and 2 and Kansas City is 9 and 1. If we start to play this out now with the final, you know, six or seven games. So Kansas City's at the Panthers, they host the Raiders, they host the Chargers, they're at the Browns, host the Texans, they're at the Steelers. Two losses maybe in there. Buffalo has two losses right now. So Kansas City would end up with three losses. Buffalo hosts San Francisco. They're at the Rams, they're at the Lions. Then they host The Patriots, Jets, Patriots. Are they going to have one or two more losses and if they get to four losses, they're going to be going to Kansas City probably for the AFC title game. Seems like a foregone conclusion in the NFC with the class being the Detroit Lions and I don't know if the Eagles are a close second, but feels like I don't think we're, we're quite sure what to make of the San Francisco 49ers. A lot of talent. They've had injuries. They are generic. Right now in last place, a couple other things that happened. The Ravens may be bringing in competition for Justin Tucker. The Giants head coach has to answer a really tough question on why he's benching Daniel Jones and Doug Peterson on the hot seat in Jacksonville. All righty, Seaton, what's poll question today?
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, I was going to start with one here. Best bad team. Who's the best bad team? Right now the Dolphins are at 4 and 6. They feel like they should be better than 4 and 6, right?
Dan Patrick
I like the Dolphins. Yes, I do. I think they're, I think they're a good team kind of disguised as a bad team.
Teddy Mellencamp
We're going to have to remove some teams from this actually. The Bengals, they're 4 and 7. They're a good bad team. Right? They're a high end bad team.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Who else would you put in there?
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, we can put the Cowboys on there. They're three and seven.
Dan Patrick
No, no, we're not going to do that. We can't do that. Unless you say this is. Put an asterisk by it and say this is just for clicks. Yes.
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, no. Doesn't it feel like they should be a better team than what they are? I mean their records. Why don't you different than the Bengals or the Dolphins. I didn't like do it.
Dan Patrick
They're not threatening though, right? No, no, I'm joking about putting them on there. They're. They're not threatening. They're getting blown out. They're getting blown out at home. They're not even competitive. So it's not like they're a good team that, you know, has a bad record. Like the Dolphins don't have a winning record. But I think they're good. The Bengals are at least competitive. They don't have a good record, but I think that they can be competitive. Yes. Paul?
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. The Bengals have a top five offense and they're in every game. The Cowboys offense is ranked 25th and their defense is ranked 31st. They're non threatening. But then I'll throw in a team in the poll. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 4 and 6. They've outscored their opponents by 13 points this year, but they're 4 and 6 and they've lost four in a row. But they feel like they could beat anybody on a good night. They're in every game.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Okay. I could see them in there. Any other suggestions? Yes.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. Well, The Saints are 4 and 7, but they feel much different than the Buccaneers at 4 and 6. Right, right.
Dan Patrick
The Saints did beat the Buccaneers. They did.
Teddy Mellencamp
Which is weird.
Dan Patrick
Just recently. Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
We'll put them on pause. How about Paul's Chicago Bears? They're out, right? They're not competitive. Okay.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
How about the Colts at 5 and 6?
Dan Patrick
Well, there's. They're still in the playoff hunt, so I guess I have to. I have to begrudgingly acknowledge that the Colts are maybe a playoff team.
Teddy Mellencamp
I think that was one of my preseason hot takes, was the Colts make the playoffs.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Well, let's see.
Teddy Mellencamp
We've got five teams right now, and we have room for four, so Dolphins, Bengals, Colts, Buccaneers, Saints.
Dan Patrick
Let's take the Saints offense. Yeah, I'll take the Saints off there.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah, they're out. My favorite stat of the day, by the way, is that the U.S. men's National Team have won more games at AT&T Stadium this year than the Dallas Cowboys have.
Dan Patrick
Stat on the day. Thank you, Melissa Etheridge. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. 877. 3dp. Shell operator. Tighter. Sitting by. Take your phone call. Settle on a poll question also. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner. Thank you for downloading the app. So Matt Leinert next hour. And former backup quarterback with the Saints, Chase Daniel little bit later on as well. Basketball Cavaliers against the Celtics coming up tonight. Also the Pirates. Paul SK Won the National League Rookie of the Year. And if you were confused about the Yankees, Louise Gill winning the American League Rookie of the Year, you're not alone. It was his third year in the majors. He didn't have enough starts to qualify. He's 26 years of age. Remember when Ichiro came over and I think he won, what, the MVP and rookie of the year? He was like 26 or 27. And he had been playing against good competition in Japan for like five years. Luis Gill is 26. Yes, Paul.
Teddy Mellencamp
Second only to algebra. Things I don't understand. Rookie eligibility in Major League Baseball. Now. Luis Gill, 20, 21. He started six games. 2022, he started a game and played a bunch of innings. Not a bunch, a few innings. Then he was off a year back in the minors. And then in 2024, he played a full season with 30 starts. But somehow he's a rookie. That seems. I know, whatever rules there are, he's eligible. It feels weird.
Dan Patrick
Should, should age factor in to being rookie of the year? I mean, it's his third season. Yes. Todd, I don't know about age, but.
Teddy Mellencamp
Once you're getting up to the third, fourth season of play, even if it's not, even if you didn't hit a minimum number of games, it's like college football plays with the red shirt.
Dan Patrick
It's his ninth year playing for the college team. Well, now when you watch the NCAA tournament, March Madness, you'll be like, wait a minute. That's like the fourth stop for that. Is he like 25? Yes.
Teddy Mellencamp
Mark Hunter Dickinson from Kansas basketball.
Dan Patrick
He's as old as I am.
Teddy Mellencamp
He's over there like, man, I'm a grown man.
Dan Patrick
Yes, yes, very much so.
Teddy Mellencamp
But he's not eligible for freshman in the year in the Big 12 or something. I don't think anymore. I think he's past that. That, that riff.
Dan Patrick
Wait, wait.
Teddy Mellencamp
It's newcomer of the year.
Dan Patrick
Did, did he win newcomer of the year at Kansas? Checking last year. Yeah. Check on that if you can. Paul S.K. i believe, is going to join us on the program tomorrow. All right, we'll take a break, settle on our poll question. Phone calls always welcome. When we come back, one word answer. The Houston Texans are blank. The Dallas Cowboys are blank. We're back after this on a Tuesday morning. Dan Patrick Show.

Try them for free@wasabi.com we will play Fill in the blank with the Texans and the Cowboys. Paulie has a warm take on the Cowboys. Paulie normally doesn't have a take on the Cowboys. And our Hour one poll question I mentioned the over unders with the Cowboys. The over under according to DraftKings this morning is five and a half. But the one that really I find curious is the Chiefs over unders 14 and a half. Are the Chiefs going to go 152 this year? They're going to lose one more game. They're going to be hosting the AFC title game. They got the Panthers, Raiders, Chargers. They're at the Browns. They host the Texans. They're at the Steelers. One loss out of there. Buffalo is now 9 and 2 but they got San Francisco. They're at the Rams and at the Lions now the last three. They got the Patriots twice and then they have the jets. But the Bengals over under is seven and a half. The Chiefs 14 and a half, Niners eight and a half. Can we check and see what Buffalo's over under is that wasn't put in here but the jets five and a half, the same as the Cowboys. Chargers ten and a half over under. Rams at eight and a half. The Niners and the Rams have the same over under eight and a half. Are the Niners not going to make the playoffs? That'd be amazing. Now they had injuries, Christian McCaffrey not playing, Brock Purdy's banged up now over under eight and a half. But it's almost like they're begging you to take the chiefs under with 14 and a half. That seems like a lot. Which means they'll go 15 2. Do we have an over under on the Buffalo Bills? Can we find that out? I'd be curious where that stacks up.
Teddy Mellencamp
Do you want to guess it? The over under on the Bills. Want to play the guess the over under.
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna say 12 and a half.
Teddy Mellencamp
You're correct. Okay, game over.
Dan Patrick
Well, that game is over. And today we didn't even get, you know, the music in there for the over under. Okay, here we go. Time to play fill in the blank. And this can be a one word answer or maybe even a hyphenated word. Sort of like what Mike and Tony do on Pardon the Interruption. Such and such is blank. Todd, I'll start with you. You're a wordsmith. The Houston Texans are blank.
Teddy Mellencamp
Above ish average. Above ish average. And I will explain why. Six of their seven wins were against the Colts twice. Patriots, Jags, Bears, and Cowboys.
Dan Patrick
Last night they also lost to the Jets. This season, they've been owned by the NFC north, except for Chicago.
Teddy Mellencamp
Two of their last three games will be against the Ravens and Chiefs, where we will see who's who and what's what.
Dan Patrick
Wow. I tell you what, that's a round of applause. Above ish average. I like that. Eat your heart out, Dan Orlofsky. All right, Seaton. The Houston Texans are fun. Anything. Anything you'd like to add?
Teddy Mellencamp
I was told one word.
Dan Patrick
Oh.
Teddy Mellencamp
I was told a one word answer, so I. My word was fun. Houston Texans are fun. Respectively.
Dan Patrick
Now, is it.
Teddy Mellencamp
We gotta keep this moving.
Dan Patrick
Is that, like, fun? The band is there. Is there, like, small letters Fun?
Teddy Mellencamp
Did they do that song? Yeah, I remember that.
Dan Patrick
Fun. Okay, Marvin. The Houston Texans are contender ish. Oh, dang. That's good.
Teddy Mellencamp
I think on any given Sunday or Saturday.
Dan Patrick
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Or now. Is he allowed to explain?
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, yeah, a little break.
Dan Patrick
Said it was one word. Oh, well, Seaton only got fun.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh. He was allowed to expound, but he chose to follow the traditional rules.
Dan Patrick
Know the rules. Okay. All right. Well, Fritzy went on and on and on, and we gave him a round of applause. Marvin. Okay, you can explain contender ish. On any given Sunday or Saturday during.
Teddy Mellencamp
The playoffs, they can beat everyone except the Chiefs.
Dan Patrick
Everybody but the Chiefs.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, yeah. Is there a big difference between contenderish and above average ish?
Dan Patrick
Not in my book.
Teddy Mellencamp
They're sort of an above average ish.
Dan Patrick
Fun contending.
Teddy Mellencamp
That's kind of who the Texans are right now. I really feel like we're actually putting a perfect pinpoint on who they are right now. We're really. He's sort of. They're above average ish and contender ish. But they're fun to watch.
Dan Patrick
They're fun. They are fun. Okay, Paulie, The Houston Texans are root four.
Teddy Mellencamp
They are root four. I think that's a word. Are we nailing this team right now? Yes. Are we nailing this or what? Stroud seems like a good dude. Nico Collins is an underrated player. Nice guys on defense. Their coaches seems really cool. They're everything the Cowboys aren't. They're young, they're threatening, they're entertaining. Their uniforms. I don't know what uniform from week to week I'm getting, but they're root fourable.
Dan Patrick
I'm going to say the Houston Texans are overrated. Oh, you are. See?
Teddy Mellencamp
Buzz kill. Here he goes. Brake pumper. Here he goes, Brake pump.
Dan Patrick
Maine.
Teddy Mellencamp
You'd be in a good mood. Turns out not.
Dan Patrick
That was my nickname in high school. Brake pumper.
Teddy Mellencamp
Haterade.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Haterade. Drinking a gallon today.
Teddy Mellencamp
But, Ken, I got a question. I think they were overrated six weeks ago, and then they had the rough October November. A lot of people jumped off, and now they're on the upswing where they're properly rated underrated.
Dan Patrick
Question mark.
Teddy Mellencamp
So what we're essentially landing on is that the Texans are a above average, ish, root for able team that are kind of contenders and fun to watch, but ultimately overrated. Boom.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes.
Teddy Mellencamp
That's perfect. I feel like that's kind of great. Got it.
Dan Patrick
Okay, now let's play the Dallas Cowboys game. The Dallas Cowboys are blank. Todd.
Teddy Mellencamp
I initially put falling stars, but to try to not to make it two words I'm going with. Dallas is how I would describe the Cowboys.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Teddy Mellencamp
Dallas. Wow. Just call it like I see it. 3 and 7. Where are we supposed to call them?
Dan Patrick
Are you adding another S at the end of Dallas?
Teddy Mellencamp
They're Dallas Cowboys bulletin board.
Dan Patrick
I probably would have said D U, L L. Dull ass. Yeah, Dull ass.
Teddy Mellencamp
It's that, too. It's that, too.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Okay, Seaton. The Dallas Cowboys are blank.
Teddy Mellencamp
Hilarious. This is the best Cowboy season I can remember in recent. I love that every year it's bubbling up. This year more so than ever. Every year there's at least one headline that's like, hey, Jerry, what's with the sun? And this year we got him to.
Dan Patrick
Be like, well, why don't we just.
Teddy Mellencamp
Tear the whole place down? It'll. For today, this year will forever rule just because of that. God, do I love that.
Dan Patrick
And then the roof fell, you know, caved in last night. Picking up pieces as if it's, you know, off of a, you know, a lunar landing or something.
Teddy Mellencamp
I thought they were giving out souvenirs to the fans, like Everyone gets a piece of the roof. They're just dropping them. Not a. Not a promotion.
Dan Patrick
All right, Marvin. The Dallas Cowboys are blank. The Dallas Cowboys are horror, awful. Horror awful. Horror awful.
Teddy Mellencamp
It's a word coin by Shaquille O'Neal when he's talking about Craig Saker's jacket once, and I've used it ever since. And that's a perfect way to describe.
Dan Patrick
The Dallas Cowboys, the franchise as a whole. H O R H O H O R R A W F U L HOR Awful.
Teddy Mellencamp
Horror awful.
Dan Patrick
Horror awful. Paul The Dallas Cowboys are blank.
Teddy Mellencamp
The Dallas Cowboys are unfixable, which is the worst thing you can be in sports. Okay, briefly. Their quarterback situation is not changing. They're going to spend on a pass rusher to do good work for them, but they won't be really threatening next year. They've got a lot of money tied up in another player. They're again, the opposite of the Texans. They're older, average, and overpaid. The Texans are younger, threatening, and all on rookie contracts.
Dan Patrick
The Dallas Cowboys are irrelevant.
Teddy Mellencamp
Dang. That's the worst thing. Holy Smokerini.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yes. When. When your owner talking about the sun or the sky is falling, that's the interesting part of your team. You're irrelevant. And now you have Mike McCarthy who's just kind of twisting in the wind now. You can see him where you're going, Mike. It's almost over. Almost over. Nothing more to worry about after this.
Teddy Mellencamp
So what we've essentially got right here is the Dallas Cowboys are hilariously horror, awful, unfixable, and ultimately irrelevant. I feel like we kind of nailed that, too. Gotta admit, we might need to go through every team because we are just crushing this right now.
Dan Patrick
But they will probably lead SportsCenter.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yes. Paul.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah, this turned into Mad Libs, where we just plug in all the different descriptions of the team. We'll do two more teams tomorrow. Sports.
Dan Patrick
Madlibs.
Teddy Mellencamp
That was fun.
Dan Patrick
Thank you. Thank you. Enjoyed that. Cindy in North Carolina. Good morning, Cindy, what's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan Danette. Thanks for taking my call.
Teddy Mellencamp
Those who are listening wanted to piggyback off that conversation of the best of.
Dan Patrick
The worst, because there are also some really bad teams out there.
Teddy Mellencamp
And I was thinking, you know what?
Dan Patrick
There may be eight, possibly nine coaching vacancies at the end of the year. And there's Bill Belichick sitting out there. Just wanted your thoughts on what you think might be a place that he would like to go to, because some of these teams also have bad Quarterback situations. Well, if you're Bill and you were treated to Tom Brady, and then when you don't, don't have Tom Brady reality set in. If Bill is going to take a head coaching job, I would start with who's your quarterback? If he's all in on Trevor Lawrence and reuniting with Trent Balke, the gm, as it seems like they might be the leader in the clubhouse here, but I don't. Does he want to put up with Dallas? I wouldn't if I'm Bill Belichick. If Jerry ran Jimmy Johnson out of town, is he going to truly let Bill Belichick run this team? Because you know what happened. Remember the Patriot Way? Nobody said anything. Those press conferences, there were no leaks coming out of there. Bill would be, you know, coaching a game and then somebody would say, oh, did you hear what Jerry. There's no way Bill wants to put up with that. No way do I think that he would coach the Bears. Caleb Williams now, I don't know what his relationships are. I don't know Bill Belichick. I don't even. I don't have any sources on any of this. But if I'm just looking, what does Bill want? You know, he's a traditionalist. What do you want to go into the Bear situation? What do you want to bring back the monsters of the midway? Does he believe in Caleb Williams? So I would start there with your quarterbacking situation. Then whatever his relationship is with the front office, does he have any ties to the front office? Bill's going to have a variety of opportunities if he wants them. And he might be coming back just to pass Don Shula in the all time victory list. And he's what, two seasons away from something like that? But he's got a pretty good gig. He's got a lot of good gigs right now. And I said I didn't think he was coming back, and I'm probably going to be wrong. Yes.
Teddy Mellencamp
Pauline, as a Bear fan, hearing you say Bill Belichick just randomly as a possibility for the Bears, it excited me in the stance of right now. The issue in Chicago is they believe the coaching staff has very little discipline, accountability. It's casual coaching staff. It's not disciplined, it's not detail oriented. And Belichick is the opposite of all of that. And I think that would sell very well in Chicago.
Dan Patrick
Oh, Belichick coming to town. Absolutely.
Teddy Mellencamp
It would be the opposite of everything.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. It'd be like, oh, we're getting our George Hallis. A modern day George Hallis. Oh, Or Ditka. This is great. There's going to be accountability. He's going to take names. Mike in Detroit. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind today, Danny? How we doing? Great, Mike. My Detroit Lions are 9 and 1, and let me tell you, it's unchartered waters and territories for the fans of Detroit. Unlike your take on now the third time we've hung 50 on a team and they've said that we've ran up the score, being unsportsmanlike. Any thoughts on this, Danny?
Teddy Mellencamp
Because we feel that the tone was.
Dan Patrick
Set with Dan Campbell's first press conference on what this team is going to be from a cultural standpoint. And then now you have two coordinators who are basically having, you know, interview auditions every week. And Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. What do you think is going into this and why the league has a problem? I don't have a problem with it. Like you're. You're paid professionals. Stop them. Now, you do run the risk of putting your starters, leaving them in. Somebody could get hurt or somebody takes a cheap shot. But when I see teams still trying to score. Now, if it's fourth down and you're going to kick a 55 yard field goal and you're up by 32, and then I have a problem with that, you know, unless you say, well, you know, our place kicker, you know, we want to make sure that he can make these kicks under pressure. I get all those things. These are paid professionals. I don't believe in. Let me take it light on you. Easy on you. I remember playing in a football game when I was in high school and the opposing team took it easy on. They were taking the knee. They were taking a knee and I was livid. Like I was embarrassed. Now, granted, I'd rather be embarrassed that we played poorly than you're going to take it easy on me. I have no problem. This is Dan Campbell's mo. I mean, I have no problem with that whatsoever. Andrew in Washington. Hi, Andrew. What's on your mind? Oh, good morning, Dan, and thanks for taking my call. I don't complain about much other than the legit is legitimacy of the 15 and O Cavs. But last night on Monday Night Football Countdown, what was up with Ryan Clark's outfit and Jason Kelsey's outfit? What's going on with the wardrobe department of espn? He's got like a two, you know, fabric jacket with his own little RC name pendant on there. And then, you know, I don't know if it was Green Acres or it was Jason Kelsey. What exactly does that do for the show and the content and for those individuals? Are they just trying to do their own thing and like, look at me the most on TV and I need my own little stream? Yeah, this is marketing, that's all. I mean, you hire these personalities and you want to let them be personalities. Jason Kelsey is a personality. Do I want to see him in a suit and tie? I don't. Now he's out there like he's Indiana Jones. I'm fine with that. Ryan Clark probably has his own clothing line or trying to establish his own clothing line. Does it look different? Yes, but he wants it to look different so you'll notice it. Thanks for the phone call. Yes, Todd.
Teddy Mellencamp
And more and more time is being spent on showing these athletes and what they're wearing. And as they walk into the stadium, that's become a bigger and bigger deal for social media to show what kind of outrageous things that they got on. So they want to be like, this.
Dan Patrick
Is different, this is different. When I was there, it was suit and tie. That's just, that's what you're supposed to wear. Now. Maybe you don't wear a tie, maybe you don't wear a sport coat or you wear a sport coat. And it's. Chris Berman used to wear like what looked like horse blankets. He would have these plaid loud jackets because that's what sportscasters used to do, local sportscasters back in the 60s and 70s, even the 80s. So he was having fun with that. You know, if they give you the longitude and latitude to do it, then take advantage of it. I said for years, when the NBA said we're going to have a wardrobe, like basically wardrobe police watching what you wear. And that's when Iverson would wear maybe a throwback hockey jersey or football jersey to a press conference. And oh my God, people couldn't believe it. Steve Nash used to dress like Ron Howard in Happy Days, you know, a plaid short sleeve shirt and, you know, not tucked in. And he said that part of that rule was, you know, was directed at him and Iverson, that it wasn't just Allen, it was Steve Nash who didn't get dressed up to go to the press conferences. And I said, somebody's going to go, hey, I'm going to make you suits, I'm going to make your wardrobe to wear. You're going to get paid, I'm going to get exposure. And you've seen that the women, the wnba, what they wear, I mean, they're on the Runway, so they're taking advantage of the opportunity. It's a whole different world. But you know, ESPN has embraced this. Fox is embracing this. Be yourself, okay? And people are doing that. Tom in North Carolina. Hi, Tom. What's on your mind? Yeah, hey, dp, you were going over the Kansas City schedule, the last part of that schedule. If you look at those dates, those dates are going to be important. As far as their overall wins, I could see them. I don't think the NFL is going to let them rest their starters on Christmas Day, but that's a 10 day stretch where they have three games. So I think you could possibly see Russ starters being rested, especially if they've got the number one seed locked in. Yeah, but Tom, I don't think the NFL can do anything about it. The NFL is not saying to the Giants, hey, you got to pay Daniel, play Daniel Jones. He gives you a better chance to win. We have to have competitive balance now. This was the NBA. That commissioner might say something. This commissioner, he's not saying anything. We'll take a break. Play of the Day up next, be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

The play. The play of the day.
Teddy Mellencamp
This is the play of the day.
Dan Patrick
Check this out.
Teddy Mellencamp
Rush in trouble. Strip. Sack. Who's got it? It's still loose. Texans pick it up. Here's Barnett on the run. 20, 15, 10, 5. Touchdown. Scoop score Derek Barnett.
Dan Patrick
Houston sack Cooper rush five times forced. Two turnovers. Dallas gets blown out at home once again. They're 05 at home this season. You got delicate situations going on now and it's really a tap dance with some of these coaches. Like Doug Peterson in Jacksonville. I don't think he's going to be back next year. Brian Dabel, the Giants head coach, I don't think he's going to be back next year. So Doug Peterson was asked about, well, here's the question to the Jacksonville head coach. Is there any unwritten rule in the.
Teddy Mellencamp
NFL about firing coaches in this, like.
Dan Patrick
Two and 11 firing assistants?
Teddy Mellencamp
I think you got to be really, really careful when you start pointing fingers at certain people. It's a dangerous thing and I'm not going to do that.
Dan Patrick
Not doing it, not right now.
Teddy Mellencamp
As a head coach in this league, you're pointing a finger.
Dan Patrick
And if it's going to be pointed, it needs to be pointed at me.
Teddy Mellencamp
Start with me.
Dan Patrick
Good response. The right response there as well. We've seen this with certain teams where you go, we're not going to fire the coach, fire a coordinator or two. The Bears did this. I don't think that's changed anything. Then you have Brian Dabel, the Giants head coach. So Daniel Jones is not a good quarterback. Do I think he's better than Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock? I do. But they don't want to risk him getting injured and then he's still on the payroll next year. So here is Brian Dabel being asked the question about benching his best quarterback.
Teddy Mellencamp
Why now with the move? Obviously it's to buy you're on a five game loser streak. But why now? Actually, you know, make the move with Daniel. Yeah, I think you've, you know, you.
Dan Patrick
Said some of those things we're obviously not playing the way any of us want to play, and that's on all of us. But felt like this was a decision that we needed to make here and try to spark things, change things up. And, you know, we went and did.
Teddy Mellencamp
It with Tommy again. We spent a lot of time here.
Dan Patrick
Over the last week of evaluating a lot of things and just felt like this was the best thing for us. Okay. He didn't really answer anything. And I, and I feel bad for these coaches because this is a management tanking. They're saying, don't play him. And even if you're not even playing Drew Lock, who's better than Tommy DeVito, and then you find out all the incentives in Drew Lock's contract, they just don't want to spend any money here and they sort of want to go quietly into the off season here and try to regroup. But Daniel Jones gives them a better chance of winning. Maybe they don't have a great chance of winning, but he's a better quarterback than the other two. But they make it. See the fact that you can say, hey, I watched a lot of film and that's why we went with Tommy DeVito. Like, what film are you watching that you're going to go, you know, we're going to take. He had 15 minutes of fame and Drew Lock is a better quarterback. I don't know if you could honestly say, but you have to go to a press conference and you go, all right, let me practice this. Hun, listen to me and tell me if you think this is convincing. I've watched a lot of tape and that's why we went with Tommy DeVito. Okay, but you gotta have a little bit more emotion in that, hun. Okay? Hey, we watch a lot of tape and we really like what we've seen with Tommy DeVito. That's why we're gonna go with him. And we think this, we need a spark. Okay, sure, I'll buy that. Yes.
Teddy Mellencamp
I kind of wish that Dable had done the other move where the reporter asked the question. And obviously we all know what's going on here. And the coach just turns it back on the reporter like, hey, Coach, what's with the quarterback change? Is this really the best position? So you think that I'm going to sacrifice my job? You think I'm going to put my job on the line? Okay? I'm the head coach of this football team, okay? We're here to win every day. You don't know the sacrifices these men have made in there. Okay? You don't know, the thing. You guys just sit here, you write your little columns, okay? We're in there, blood, sweat and tears going into this game, okay? Every single day we're working hard. I like when they just turn it on the guy. You're like, okay, I was just asking why you're playing this crappy quarterback instead of the other two that you have.
Dan Patrick
I was just asking a question. Yeah, yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
Every day. Okay. We show up every day.
Dan Patrick
Paulie says to me this morning, hey, I got a warm take on Trey Lance. Now he knows I have a soft spot in my heart for Trey Lance. I these. These two for Tuesday get drafted. Warm takes from.
Teddy Mellencamp
Paulie had a Cowboys warm take and now a Trey Lance worm take.
Dan Patrick
Let's get it stays in the Dallas Cowboy community there. Yeah. You know, these kids who get drafted and they're 21, 22 years of age, and then they don't play well, and then we want to move on. I'd like to see Trey Lance get a chance with Dallas, just see if he can play. So, Paulie, your warm take on the Cowboys backup quarterback, Trey Lance.
Teddy Mellencamp
I've heard a few people say once they're not in the playoffs, which are really not anymore, you bring in Trey Lance and see what you have with them. The only way the Cowboys can make this season worse is by playing Trey Lance at any point this season. Here's why. If he happens to play well for two or three games now, you have a situation, and it's not a real situation, because you can't bench Dak Prescott. You can't cut him. You cannot trade him. Prescott is your quarterback for the next two years. At the very minimum, he's actually the next. The quarterback for the next three years, financially. So if somehow you play Trey Lance, you set up next season a really interesting backup quarterback that the fans may like and a starter who's unventual. This isn't Russell Wilson, who could be moved. It would be brutal. So I think playing Trey Lance is a terrible idea because.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I disagree.
Teddy Mellencamp
The upside of him playing well is actually hurts your team.
Dan Patrick
No, the upside is as we spend a fourth round pick, can the guy play? Is he a legitimate backup? Do we move on from Cooper Rush or could he be traded? Dak Prescott's your quarterback. That's, you know, that's unimpeachable. He is your guy. Betray Lance. Hey, is he worth that fourth round pick? Do we let him go? I would like to know that.
Teddy Mellencamp
I'd like to go back and question that fourth round pick for him. Because here's the thing. If you had not signed Dak Prescott before the season, as I said not to, because you let the season play out and then you have financial options, then you play Trey Lance because maybe you'd go in a completely different direction. They didn't do that. They could compound a mistake.
Dan Patrick
They didn't listen to me. They didn't listen to me. Jerry never listens to me as much as I try to plead with him. All right, coming up, Matt Leinert will join us. Also, Chase Daniel, former quarterback in the NFL. More of your phone calls as well. One hour in the books on this Tuesday. Two more to go.
