The thunder go up on the Timberwolves. SGA gets 40 and his MVP. Tonight, the Knicks are getting two and a half. Well, from the bookies from, from Vegas. They don't start out up two and a half. No, they don't. That would be great though, if they did. Yeah. Are we ever going to get to that point with gambling that you start out with? That's the point spread and, you know, make it easier on us so we can understand when there's, you know, a bad beat. You never hear good beats, do you? You always hear a bad beat. Scott Van Pelt always talks about a bad beat. Although if you're a gambler and I'm an ex gambler, you do love telling people about the the bets that you won, you normally don't talk about the bets you lost. Like, I can't imagine Drake or Floyd Mayweather saying, hey, let me tell you about the time I lost a half a million on the Raptors or something. But Knicks are getting two and a half of the Pacers game four and Tyrese Halliburton's dad gets to come back. How about that? But he doesn't go. He can't go on the floor. He has to be up in a suite. I don't know if they make him sit, like in row eight of the suite. Like he can't even sit in the front row of the suite. But his dad will be in the building. The Knicks at the Pacers game four. Thunder dominated. @ least it looked like they dominated. Until you look at what happened and you get 40 from SGA, you got balance attack from the Thunder, and you hold on to win this one by two. NBA teams that take a three one series lead back home for game five win 75% of the time. It felt like every time I covered the Bulls with Michael Jordan. Did I ever tell you that I covered the Bulls with Michael Jordan? Did I? Do you remember that? I'd heard about it, but some type of show talked about it. Yeah. Yes, I, I covered the Bulls. It felt like every time that they could close out a series on the road, they never did. For some reason, even though Jordan never went to a Game 7. But 75 of the time, the team that takes a 31 series lead back home for Game 5, they win 75% of the time. So Shea Gilgis scores 40 and the first Thunder player to score at least 40 in a playoff game since Russell Westbrook Jr. The third did that against Utah back in 2018. Stat of the day is always brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. And for over 40 years, they've been helping you get the best tires, helping customers find the right tires for how and what and where you drive. Ship fast and free. Backed by free road hazard protection. Convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tire rack.com the way tire buying should be. All right, Seaton poll question if you would do us the honors for the first hour. Sure. We can start in the NBA. Which is more true? The Thunder shut Anthony Edwards down or Anthony Edwards needs to step up? You know, it's rare when we will compliment or credit the defense. We tend to look at the star player and say, what's up? What happened now? His. His shots per game have been going down Each series, that, to me, is a little worrisome. If he plays at his normal level, then they pull out that win. But keep in mind, his teammates had a great performance, so they were making shots. And I'm going to give credit to the defense with okc. Lou Dort, all he's doing is trying to stay with Ant, man. That's it. And I think that's the key, is he's not worried about anything other than Anthony Edwards. And Anthony Edwards even said after the game that he didn't particularly have a bad game. But here is the Timberwolves star. I don't look at it like I struggled or he struggled. It just. They had a good game plan making us get off the ball. Especially for me, man, it was super in the gaps. I made the right play all night. So I don't really look at it like I struggled. I didn't get enough shots to say I struggled. So that's my. That might be how you guys look at it, but, yeah, I'm a struggle at all. It's just I made the right play. Yeah, he had six assists, but I. I do need him to score more, be more aggressive. And he said he was trying to take it to the hoop, but they play great defense, help defense. The gaps, they're really tight with that. Chad Holmgren has done a great job. But give credit. OKC is the best defensive team in the NBA. They're proving that. Now, that's not, you know, a hot take when you go, how about we credit the defense? It's what's wrong with Anthony Edwards. I'm giving a whole lot of credit to okc. I've often said many, many, many, many times. So I very often said this. Don't let the best player beat you. OKC did that last night. Now, the other players played pretty well, and that's the danger in that. But that's because Minnesota has a balanced attack there. They. They have depth there, and they almost pulled out a big win there. But give credit to the defense for a change. Yeah, Paulie. Yeah, I saw a stat on Anthony Edwards. He drove to the lane, like 16 times, which means he is being aggressive. But on all 16 of those times, they rotated over a double team. 16 for 16. They're trying to get out of his hands, and that's the way to go. Don't let the best player beat you. And you know, that'll be the philosophy. It should be the philosophy now. I don't know why Minnesota doesn't do that to Shay Gilgis Alexander. How about we don't let their best player beat us and score 40 points. And you've got the rim protector, Rudy Gobert. You should be able to shut him down there. Rudolph had 13 and nine for you. That's okay. It's all right. See, if you want the most overrated player in the NBA, it's. It's not my guy, Tyrese Halliburton. It's Rudy and the Go Bears. All right, what other poll question we looking at today? First down, receipt. And by the way, let me do the starting lineup. And it guard out of nyu, Todd Fritz. Do I do height and weight? Oh, boy. No, we don't do that. Oh, we don't do. I think at guard, six foot six. So I just do your height. I do. I. I don't. They don't do weight. So your height is what, Todd, like five, ten and a half? Five, ten. And at guard, five foot ten out of nyu, Todd Fritz forward than a guard. More like he's a tweener small forward. Seaton o' Connor is here. Marvin is here. Paulie's here. Marvin has his all star T shirt on. I do. I live in the crates. Much like. Yeah, much like Paulie and. And Fritzi. What year is that? This is 1992. Of course it is. In Orlando. Of course it is. Yeah, I've been looking for that. Now I know where it is. You have my 1992 Orlando All Star T shirt on. Yes, Paul, but it is a genius business model because that's not an original all star T shirt. Like Marvin wasn't at that weekend. No offense, but you can buy that old stuff now. There's websites that have reprinted memorabilia from years and past. Yeah, it's called Todd Fritz's favorite place to go buy his wardrobe. Retro land, baby. Yeah, well, that's like distressed. You know, we're. We. We buy distressed furniture, distressed jeans. That's kind of the sports version of distressed. Yes, yes, Marvin. And it's very nostalgic. So you want to try to go back to your youth or something like that. That's why retro sneakers are such a big thing. You know what, man? I couldn't afford those Jordans when I was 10. Now I'm 40. Oh, I can afford those. So a lot of people do that. Well, guys do that with cars. You know, if there was a car in high school that you couldn't afford, then once you get money, then we tend to revert back and go, you know, I always wanted that Trans Am or Corvette Iraq. Yeah. Alrighty. So we'll settle on a poll question or two here. Your phone calls are always welcome. Operator Todd Marvin is going to be running things today. So I just want you to take your cues from Marvin today, all right? Why would you guys do that? I don't want to be the bad guy. I had a great weekend. You know, the sun is out. I just want to make sure that Fritzi is having fun. You seem refreshed. I. I am. I went fishing yesterday. Yeah, Went fishing. Caught. Caught some smallmouth bass and catch and release, by the way. But, yeah, went out and I roughed it a little bit. Was out there, but kind of like ahab, you know, I'm looking for the big one. Big waves out there. Yeah. Looking for the big one. What makes it a small mouth bass? How big is the big mouth bass, then? It's larger than the small. Larger than the small. Yeah. It's mouth clear that, like, you would be a largemouth bass. I would be a big mouth bass. I would be that pain in the back. Yeah, yeah. Yes, Marvin. Whenever you're a main, do you just feel more like a man? Oh, you can't spell Maine without M A n. Well said on their license plate, isn't it? Yeah, I think it's something like that. Yeah. You know, you're Paul bunyan here. It's just you're out there in the wilderness, but, you know, when it's just you and the dog and then you hear sounds at night and you're like, oh, I'm scared. You know those glowing eyes in the thing? What kind of cats they got out here? Yeah, well, I have a dog when he's a rescue, but part coonhound. And she is a hunter. She'll hear everything. And sometimes she didn't hear anything, but it certainly sounds like she did. Yes, Paul. Now, Maine has bears. And you know about bear, like the strategy. If a bear walks up on yours near you, you're supposed to stand motionless and just walk backwards slowly. Is that the. That the routine? I believe so. How do you. How does a person do that? Well, I encountered a bear. This is 1999. I'm in British Columbia. Here's Dan's story time. So I'm up there fly fishing, and we. We stay for an extra day because we're on a photo safari. This group wanted to do a photo safari. They gave me a camera, and they said, we're going to look for the commodity bear. Komodi bear is one of the rarest animals in the world. It's a. It looks you Know, it's an albino bear, kind of looks like a polar bear, but it's a spirit bear is what it's called. So people. Native Americans, viewed it as a religious figure. Well, we're there, and I'm thinking, I'm not going to see this bear. I mean, it's one of the rarest animals in the world. Our guide on the boat had lived there. He was over 40 years of age. He had never seen the bear. And all of a sudden we realize that there's a sighting for the bear. And we go over, we're moving closer to this. This island, and all of a sudden you see a little speck. And then I realize that might be as close as I get, you know, to the commodity bear. The. Our guide, Native American, starts crying because that's a religious figure. We get there on shore, eventually the bear's gone. I'm like, all right, at least I got these real small, grainy pictures. And people may not believe me, but we did get to see sort of the commodity bear. I'm standing there looking through all my. My film that I. My pictures. The bear walks out, and the bear is. And the salmon are spawning. So the bear walks out. He's 10ft away from me. And the guys that I'm with moved about 20ft away from me. They didn't tell me. So I stood there, and then I did what Paulie said. I didn't run. I stood there, and then all of a sudden I thought, I'm just going to take pictures because this is content. And if he eats me, I might be able to get that last picture right before he eats me. I have a couple of these pictures that are framed. Gorgeous bear. But all he cared about was salmon spawning. So I kind of survived almost a bear attack, I guess you could say. Almost. Yes, Paul. That's pretty solid, though, the fact that you unintentionally stood there motionless because you're taking pictures. Well, if I. If I was reading the room and had the wherewithal to look up, I probably would have run. But I stood there because I was. I was frozen, just taking pictures. And the bear is 8ft tall, and, you know, he looks at me, and then all of a sudden he goes, that's not salmon. He went back in and started grabbing the salmon that were spawning. Anywho, okay, we have a poll question. We got play of the day, stat of the day. Our good buddy Jim Jackson from Fox, covering the NBA playoffs. He'll join us coming up in a little bit. And we got some we got some issues with college football. We will discuss those best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. Hosted by me, writer and historian Dan Flores and brought to you by Velvet Buck, this podcast looks at a West available nowhere else. Each episode I'll be diving into some of the lesser known histories of the West. I'll then be joined in conversation by guests such as Western historian Dr. Randall Williams and best selling author and meat eater founder Stephen Rinella. I'll correct my kids now and then where they'll say when cave people were here. And I'll say, it seems like the Ice Age people that were here didn't have a real affinity for caves. So join me starting Tuesday, May 6th where we'll delve into stories of the west and come to understand how it helps inform the ways in which we experience the region today. Listen to the American west with Dan Flores on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. I know a lot of cops and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes but there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. Across the country, cops called this Taser the revolution. But not everyone was convinced it was that simple. Cops believed everything that Taser told them. From Lava for good and the team that brought you Bone Valley comes a story about what happened when a multi billion dollar company dedicated itself to one visionary mission. This is Absolute season one, Taser Incorporated. I get right back there and it's bad. It's really, really, really bad. And after a loss, now they've allowed Tyrese Halliburton's dad to come back into the building. If they had won the game against the Knicks, I'd have to have the talk with my dad. If I'm Tyrese Halliburton, just say, you can't ruin, you know, you can't go against a streak like, we're superstitious, dad, you're gonna stay at home. Can't have you out there. Don't want to ruin a streak. And, you know, you'd have to have the talk. Why don't you go up to your room? I'll be up there. I'll talk to you about something. But they lost, so now I can have dad back in the building for tonight's game. Yes. Paul, do you think that the Pacers management had a talk with Mr. Halliburton directly or talked to Tyrese and said, here's what we'd like out of Dad. I don't think the Pacers did. I would say maybe it's Tyrese who did that. Or, you know, maybe they. They sent out a memo and then they could pass it on to Tyrese Halliburton's dad. They're just not letting him sit down downstairs. So he'll be up in the suite in the building. And the Pacers only favored by 2 1/2 in this game. And you look back, we might look back on that last game and say you blew a 20 point lead. And once again, you can't say you're surprised at anything with the number of teams who have come back from 20 points down and they're doing it in the fourth quarter. I mean, that's the amazing part. There have been six comebacks or 20 or more points this postseason. There were A total of six comebacks of 20 or more points in the last five seasons combined in the postseason. I mean, it's incredible, but it's because you have that opportunity that the three will bring you in and the three will knock you out. That's why you have this big seismic shift there. And the way these guys shoot. They shoot it a lot, by the way. You know what's more of an epidemic than three point shots? You guys want to guess? Marvin, I'll start with you. Three point shot's the only thing I can think of, really. Okay. All right, Paul, we're playing guess that epidemic. We haven't done that in a while. Yes, yes. I would think caring, but this seems like a new thing to you. Yeah. You know, Adam Sandler sent me a video last night where a guy is carrying. And then there were. It's a tick tock video. And I said, I don't know why you're sending this to me. You're the one that needs to watch this, since you carry the ball every time you dribble it. Todd, what is my epidemic? The step back? No. Satan passing up an open shot. No. I mean, those are all legit. Yes, Paul. I'm going to go with lane violations not being called. No, we're past that free throw. The. The number of free throws and everything that happens in the last five minutes of a game, and it slows it down, and it's just death. I mean, you. You can talk about great athletes and, you know, they're so much better than the previous generation, granted. But the number of free throws and the calls and the challenges, like, after a while, you're just. You don't miss anything. If you get up and go get a beer in the last three minutes because you'll come back and you're like, wait, are they still challenging this call? Yes. Marvin, can we play a drinking game? Take a drink. Every time somebody gestures for the challenge, when they do a little. Oh, I know. Every single time. They hate the foul call. Yeah, it's. It's bad. It just slows the game down. Now, granted, the aesthetics of the game, when you shoot threes and you miss threes. Not pretty, but at least there's action with these free throws and challenges, and you're just. It's a snail's pace. Yes, Paul, I saw someone on social media. Some media guy said, what if, like the NFL, you know, you. If a penalty's called, you can pass on it. You don't have to take it. What if in the NBA they allowed you to pass on the free throws like you get fouled? Could you institute as a rule, would that be better? Well, no. Nick Wright brought this up on his show, and he said, in the NFL, if you want to turn down a penalty, then you can. Like, you can't punish the team. But the NBA does that with these challenges. And I think that, as Nick was saying, you know, if you decide that you don't want to, you know, take a challenge, because what's happening is when, when I need a three, you're automatically going to foul me, guaranteed. Well, what if I say no, you know, I don't want to be punished, you know, therefore I can't take my three. I can only take two free throws. And I think what Nick is saying, and I agree with, is why don't they let the team that has been fouled decide if they want to shoot the free throws or go? No, we, we still want the ball and, you know, but they got to figure this out. The challenge. I'd be, I'd be fine with that. That, you know, we, we didn't punish a team where they go, here's his strategy. We're going to foul Mitchell Robinson and then make sure that you guys don't take a three. All right. 8, 7, 7, 3. DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle it DP Show I mentioned college football, college sports right now in limbo, and there's some real issues here. The college football playoffs and the haves and the have nots, it's going to get uglier. You know, my college football source told me this morning that we are expanding in 20, 20, 26, that the, that the College Football Playoff committee will go to 16 teams. But here's. Keep an eye on this, because the SEC and the Big Ten want four teams, guaranteed 14. They want half of the playoffs. And then you're going to have two from the ACC, two from the Big 12. And then we work our way down to one, you know, per other conferences in there. Notre Dame is going to get in there like Notre Dame is never joining a conference. If there was any thought, any hope, it's not happening because all they have to do is win 10 games. They're one of the 16 teams, and they don't have to share that money with anybody. But that's what's happening, and they control their schedule. And now it looks like Lincoln Riley doesn't want to play Notre Dame anymore. I think we're going to go to Notre Dame, usc. This, this might be the last time they play. Oh, good call. Yeah, I think we just bring the show to South Bend. Who's up for that? Who wants to go? Yeah, I think it's in October. Does that sound right? Maybe mid October. So. Yes, yes. Marvin, I just saw October 18th. Okay. All right. That would be mid October. Yeah. Maybe we take the show, we roll on campus there, we take in the sights and week eight. Okay. Yes, Paul, I saw that on Thursday. So you mentioned ahead, a couple hours ahead of it, the 12 team college football Playoff will move to a straight seating model this fall, which again is going to reward the heavyweights and keep a team like Boise State from getting a bye week. Well, they can't have automatic qualifiers. That's the problem. I had Arizona State, Boise State never should have been. They call them AQs. It should be the best teams. And if you want Vegas to handicap that or whatever you do with the system, but you can't say, well, you won your, your conference, you get an automatic bid. Well, winning the SEC and winning the Mountain west is a whole lot different. And I think that's what, you know, Greg Psaki, who is the, basically the commissioner of college football, is saying, we get four, Big Ten gets four. Now, if you cap it at that. Okay, like I'm okay with that. I mean, let's be fair to the Big Ten in the sec. But, you know, you know, the sec, they, you know, maybe there's a ninth conference game. Well, they don't want to do a ninth conference game if it means that could knock you out of the playoffs. If you have a ninth and you're guaranteed four teams and you're one of the four, then you're going in. But, you know, I saw where Nebraska canceled theirs with Tennessee. I think they had a game with Tennessee. I want more of those games. I don't want Wofford in there. You know, I want to make sure that. And this is why I wish that you could have somebody who does scheduling like the NFL does. And let's say you did schedule. Now, you can't do it for, you know, 100 teams, but it would be great to have that where you have a schedule release party where you find out who's playing who, where they're playing, and maybe we'll get there. Well, we will get there, hopefully in my lifetime. Yes. Paul. Dan, you said you couldn't have someone do that. You really probably could with college football because if you left the nine games, let's say everybody plays 12 regular season games. Nine of them are kind of automated with the conference. That person who's doing the scheduling is really scheduling September. There really may be. And maybe an extra game in November, that bye week. But if you said that the out of conference schedule will be run by a central office, everybody wins. Yeah, but I wonder about Nil or the transfer portal that. Let's say, I think that this school is going to be really good next year and they end up losing five players or they lose their quarterback, you know, then it's harder, I think, to say, boy, that would have been a great matchup last year, but I hope we get a schedule maker. That would be great. If you, if you think about it, you know, college football would be. These matchups would not be based on, hey, we need a sacrificial lamb. Hey, we're playing our big rival the following week. You know, if you're playing 12 games, let's play great. Let's play great schedules here. And, and I know that who's going to be hurt most is the smaller schools because their athletic budget might depend on losing to Alabama by 50. I understand that, but college football's got to decide, like, what are you? Like, what do you want to be? Because we keep trying to stay behind this student athlete mask and it's not there anymore. This is big business treated as big business. And then decide what you're going to do with the other programs. I still think relegation would be awesome. I think having a major per one person or a group that schedules games for everybody, that would be fun as well. I don't know if we're going to get there anytime soon, but I do think, as my source said, we're moving ahead to 16 teams in 2026 and no automatic qualifiers. At least that's what they're hoping for. Yes, Paul, if you go back to, like, what Notre Dame does, Notre Dame has an interesting schedule because they have some traditional opponents from the past like USC or BC or Navy that they try to play every year, or Stanford. But Notre Dame football next year opens at the Miami Hurricanes. Then they have Texas A and M at home, Purdue at home, which is traditional. Then they're at Arkansas, where you're like, well, Arkansas, it's still an SEC school and they're not playing, you know, Ferris State. No offense, but that's a pretty tough schedule. It's creative. Todd, what did you send me here about bears with salmon? Oh, it's not considered spawning in case there's any someone that's in that kind of world that might want to correct you when you were talking about spawning. I decided to look it up to see if it's called that. But it's not exactly called spawning. They're just kind of catching and eating fish. The. The bears. So it was something less than spawning that was going on. I guess that's. No, no, no. The salmon are spawning. Not the bears. The salmon are spawning. I thought you're referring to the bears are spawning. Oh, my God. The hard left turn there. Wow. Knee deep in college football. Wow. Wow. The salmon swimming upstream where they lay their eggs, fertilize their eggs and then they die. I appreciate the clarification, 11, but yeah, yeah. Bears. Bears a bit. Thanks for joining us. Bears do not spawn. Salmon small. They should spawn though. Those bears. And Todd would be right if they did. Anywho, couldn't make this up. That sports Emmy looks farther and farther away. Farther and farther away. Chris in Syracuse joins us. Good morning, Chris. What's on your mind today? Hey, thanks as always, Dan. Hey, got the best and worst to throw at you. And a question for you off of your college football talk. I'll go worst for first at the ACC spring football meetings hearing that Bill Belichick and his little sidekick there, the Belichick showing up late how? I mean, you're one of your first meetings and you're late. And I can't imagine all the years at New England that he was ever late for a meeting. And if any of his players were ever late, unless they had a name like Brady or Harrison, they'd probably be cut from the team. And it just doesn't seem like he has his heart completely into football anymore. And everything you hear about this girl and what's going on, it just seems like Bill Belichick has gone from the hoodie to the hood winked. And my best, the NBA Conference finals. Dan, I think it's one of the first years I can't remember. There's no older star, there's no Durant, there's no LeBron, and there's no current or recent star like Giannis Tatum, Luka Joker. All four teams have a current up and coming budding star. And yeah, I love it and I think it's great for the NBA. And Dan off you guys, what you guys were talking about a second ago, do you think now with the new format with the conference championship games, do you think some teams might not even want that extra game or might even sit players? Well, I think that's where you have to find out if you're an SEC or Big Ten team. Is this going to help or hurt us? If you win the game, obviously it helps. If you lose, is it going to prevent you from getting into the playoffs? And, you know, Lincoln, Riley and USC have talked about how tough it is in the Big Ten, which is a shame that, you know, you're going to decide to end this rivalry with Notre Dame. One of the few rivalries we still have left, and they want to bow out with this. Jimmy in Chicago. Hi, Jimmy. What's on your mind today? Up, Dan, I was just curious what that Jerry west card on the left corner of your desk is and where you got that from. Also the last of your show. I think it'd be awesome if you allowed the loyal fans to come to the man cave, line up outside. I would. I would definitely love to fly out. I would definitely fly out to. Love to meet you guys and tour all that awesome stuff in your man cave. All right, well, we'll take that under advisement there, Jimmy. Thank you. Consideration the Jerry west card. It's a pamphlet that was sent to me by a listener knowing I was a big Jerry west fan, and they're just tips on how to be a better basketball player. And I, I got a lot of, I don't know, unique pieces of memorabilia, and I appreciate if, if. If somebody really values it, something they've had and people have sent in things and I can display them, then great. But. Yeah, that's a Jerry west pamphlet on how to be a better basketball player. I skipped the part where it said, you know, talking about defense, though, I like cherry. That's not for me. Yes. Marvin, have you ever given it any serious thought about having people in a man cave just kind of like our most loyal listeners, like Jimmy just said in the field house? No, I haven't. But I, But. But it's not to say that I wouldn't. It would, you know, for another day, we. We could look at this. Consider this. Yes, we have talked about our friend Darren Revel from Collect. He's an expert on sports memorabilia. He has said before he would love to walk our studio and give you the street value of the studio in memorabilia. I don't know if I even care about the street value. Yeah, I guess more so for the curiosity factor. Yeah. Maybe when it's all said and done, I can decide if I want to affix a price tag to this. But, I mean, there's. This is just stuff I've collected for 40 years, and I don't throw anything away. Obviously, and just thought, you know what? We got an opportunity to display it. I. I probably rather not know how much some of this is worth. Yes, Paul. Going back to college football and scheduling. You're saying scheduling cupcakes early. It doesn't do much for you. Notre Dame opens at the Miami Hurricanes and home against A and M. Those are heavyweight franchises. USC football opens this year, home with Missouri State, home with Georgia Southern and then Purdue in the Big Ten schedule. Those two games, there's no upside to winning them. I know it keeps your slate clean, and you're two and. Oh, but you almost get dinged for those these days. Yeah, you get no credit. Boy, this a. This is a big year for USC football with Lincoln Riley. Big year. I don't know what that buyout is, but I'm sure somebody knows what that buyout is. They just brush up on this paperwork here into the season. Yeah. Hey, Sally, would you bring me the Lincoln Riley payout paperwork, please? Just doing. Oh, never mind. I've got it right on my desk. Let me see. Gabe in North Carolina. Hi, Gabe. What's on your mind? Hey, good Morning, guys. Gabriel. Six foot tall, 240, and not harder soft, but a Jim Boeheim. But, hey, I want to call you, and I don't want to rehash bad things with the Emmys, but you don't need them, man. You guys are above them. I think you guys need to create a Jimmy in honor of Jimmy Jimmerson. It's a bronze statue holding a pickleball paddle or something like that. He give it away the last year before the show closes out to all the contributors. Good people to show also real quick when it comes to Dylan and Marv. Dylan lopped off a piece of his thumb. So does that make Marv's hands the smaller ones? I'm not. No, no. We even measured him against Marvin after Dylan sliced on part of his thumb. I think he would have to slice off part of all of his fingers. And then he might have smaller hands. Pretty embarrassing. I know. And Marvin didn't want to ask, but, like, it was so obvious. Dylan. What? You know, his hands bandaged. He didn't want to put his hand up there. I forget who said. Who's got bigger hands now? And then Dylan put his hand up with his. Part of his thumb sliced off, and Marvin lost that one. He's got to lose his whole thumb, by the way. Slices and dices onions. Hey, you know, there's always a chance. All right, let me take a break. Check this out. First pitch is swung out and hammered deep to right field. It is dark. A home run for Otani. Well, before you even Had a chance to buckle your seat belt. Otani makes it one nothing with his major league leading 19th home run. The very first pitch of the game. That's courtesy of AM570LA Sports Dodgers Radio Network. That's your play of the day. 19 home runs for Shohei Otani. But how defeating is that for a pitcher? You spend all this time hours preparing day of stretching, throwing, going to the bullpen, talking over, you know, strategy there. What are you going to pitch? How are you going to pitch this guy? And then, okay, what are you going to do with Ohtani? You know, I'm going to throw one right down the middle and see he'll be surprised. First pitch of of the game and you could tell off the, off the bat, the sound. Oh man. And that's what pitchers know too. Pitchers know the sound. They don't need to turn around sometimes. That's your play of the day brought to you by Mako. Most cars on the road could use a little tlc. And Mako, they bring your car back to life. Affordable paint jobs, light collision repairs. Now I don't know how big this is, I don't know how prevalent this is, but there's a USC booster threatening to take USC out of his will if Notre Dame USC rivalry doesn't continue. Other boosters reportedly are reaching out to the board of trustees about the future of the rivalry. Now, I don't know if this booster is a heavy hitter and maybe he's a billionaire multimillionaire, but threatening to take USC out of his will if they're not going to continue this rivalry with Notre Dame. Let's see. Lance in Nashville. Hi Lance. What's on your mind? What's going on? Dan Danette. I'm gonna piggyback off what Jimmy said earlier. You guys got job. You guys pass the beer test more than anybody on radio. I listen to sports talk radio all day. You guys are the best. But in regards to your epidemic that you addressed earlier, I've called it a few times, but I had a thought and I just kind of want to take your comments maybe off air, but maybe there's like a two minute or a three minute warning at the end of game where if a team is fouled they have an option. You can a take the free throws and take the points, whether it's two or three or you take a reduced amount of free throws, say it's one and retain possession with a Reduced shot clock. So it enables teams to maybe catch up at the end of a game and keep things more exciting. I'll take your comments offline. Appreciate you guys. Have a good one. Thank you, Lance. This commissioner is willing, I think, to look at a lot of things. He's been very open minded. If, you know, you've been with the show and, you know, when he comes on the show and I've offered up two things, and whether he had already thought of that, which he probably had, or what I was telling him, and then he adopted those things. So anything that speeds up the, you know, the, the amount of time that we spend reviewing without any action, that's one. I want to get rid of that. I want to make sure that we continue some kind of flow. I mean, this is really the problem that we see with all sports. What did baseball do? There was no flow. Pitcher would take time, batter would take time. This is forever. Now all of a sudden, we're speeding it up and nobody has talked about the flow of a baseball game in a while. With football, you get to the final two minutes and it takes forever. You want the flow of the game. Everything's reviewed. Okay. I'm okay with reviewing it. If you have the technology, great, then use the technology. But speed up the technology, that's all. Keep the game moving and you can tell me how great these athletes are. And they can get 40 points and they're doing incredible things that, you know, the previous generation didn't do. I'm, I, I can acknowledge that the game itself has no flow to it. And that's the choppiness that I want to get rid of. We get. If we do that. I think that that would make the game far more palatable when you're watching it instead of, oh, my God, slowing it down. Another review and then the, and then we're gonna foul somebody and then he goes to the free throw line. And that's the problem that I have. The game is beautiful. Keep it that way. Yeah, Paulie. And like you said, they're never going to get rid of free throws or reduce free throws. I'm sorry. Timeouts in the NBA, because that's commercial inventory. Every team has a truckload of timeouts and they carry over to the second half. It's like college football. They appeared to speed up the game. You know that the clock continues to run in the last two minutes. And as soon as they speed it up, sped up the game, they added a two minute warning to get another commercial inventory there. Yeah. Yes. I mean, you Know, TV networks want to have something that's aesthetic for them, but then they're part of the problem as well. And it was never more evident than a few years ago when I went to see Michigan and Ohio State. And if you go to a game, it is forever in between plays, forever. Because when you're at home, you'll be like, oh, okay, commercial break. You go do something. When you're at the game, you're going, damn, this has been like five minutes. Yeah, Marvin. Yeah. When you're at the game and you're watching the guys. All right, guys, a TV timeout. The players are sitting on the field. They're just standing there. They're standing there. And the refs, there's this big guy with big orange gloves, and he tells the refs when the commercials are over, and he waves and, and he starts gesturing. All right, it's time to go. And then they start playing. The players are sitting there for two, two and a half to three minutes. Yeah, it, it's just a tough watch. So I, I, I will put up with three point shots. I will put up with 53 pointers. Just keep the game moving. That's all I want. And it seems to slow down in every position. So important. And this strategy that if we foul you, you can't take a three. And I can't prevent, I can't, I can't rule against a team that didn't do anything wrong. You're the one that's creating this scenario with the intentional foul. And I think you should have the opportunity to be able to say, no, we're not taking that. Or, you know, if we do something, you know, that's a little trickier, where you get one free throw and the ball, you know, that would cut down on this as well. But as long as you have bad free throw shooters, you're probably going to have this intentional fouling. How about, okay, here's the problem. How about we just work on guys free throw shooting. That's the form. That's a lot of work. D.P. lots of work. No way. Tedious, kind of boring. I know. I'm willing to do it. When I retire, I'm willing to do it. I'll go team to team and say, all right, who needs help? And I'm willing to do that just to make the game a little better for the next generation. Professional basketball is a great living, but I don't know that I got time for that. All right, one hour in the books on this Tuesday. Best and worst of the weekend. More phone calls, college football. It's in limbo right now and they're getting to ready to vote on some really big issues. We'll talk a little bit more about that coming up. Also, Jim Jackson covering the NBA playoffs. He will join us as well. One hour in the books. Two more to go on this Tuesday Dan Patrick Show. This podcast is sponsored by Talkspace.
