You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. You would think after yesterday's devastating news that everybody would pitch in and say, we'll get him next year. I walked by Fritzi Fritz. He goes, I'm not feeling it today. And I go, no, that's not. That's not the attitude. Come on.
Todd
I wait till we're nominated, then I'll, you know, get back into.
Dan Patrick
But you said you're nervous, you're not feeling it today. And I got March Madness coming up. We got more baseball today. There's a lot of things going on.
Todd
Come on, just be an upset stomach. It may have nothing to do with any of the things you just said.
Dan Patrick
Do you want to tap out?
Todd
Never.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. I need all hands on deck.
Todd
We are. We're ready to roll.
Tony Fusco
All right.
Todd
Big show today.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, could this be like a pitcher who doesn't have a great bullpen session before the game but then throws a no hitter? It happens.
Dan Patrick
Sometimes it does. And Paul Skeens is pitching today on NBC against the Mets. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, can you not say that term anymore? All hands on deck. Trying to be funny.
Chris
Oh.
Dan Patrick
Oh, man. Where's the sensitivity police? Are they coming in today?
Paulie
You have hands.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
You're not handless.
Marvin
Yeah, I mean, I guess.
Dan Patrick
All right, so Todd is here. Kind of. Seaton's here. Marvin and Paulie, yours truly, and the back room guys as well. We're ready to go. It's hour one on this Thursday. We'll dive into the. I guess it's now a controversy or at least a strong take by Dan Orlopsky with Ty Simpson as the best quarterback in the draft. Chase Daniel, former quarterback, will join us coming up momentarily. And I know that he's looked at film on both of these quarterbacks. We'll get his honest opinion. Mac McClung is going to join us. He's now the all time leading scorer in the history of the G League. How do you celebrate that? It'd be like the all time home run leader in the minor leagues. He's crashed Davis and we'll talk to him. I mean, he said two games over 50, 54 and 59 points and still kind of waiting to find his spot somewhere on an NBA roster. Yes, Todd.
Todd
Even if you tried to brag about it, the first thing anyone would say, it wasn't a G League, though.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd
That wasn't the NBA.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Todd
It was the G League.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Paul.
Paulie
I'm looking at Mac McClung's basketball reference. He's played for five different NBA teams. He's played a total of 10 games in five years. When you watch the NBA, it feels like there could be a spot for a guy who could score off the bench.
Dan Patrick
But I want to know what he's been told, right? Like, why aren't you on a roster? Why can't you stay on a roster? Now, I've been told certain things, but I want him to tell us why he can't stick with the team in the NBA. Danny Hurley now, Dan Hurley on his best behavior in March Madness. He will join us coming up in the final hour of the program. So sweet 16 tonight you got Texas, Purdue, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois and Houston. I love it. Baseball last night, the Yankees over the Giants, 7 nothing. I think most people will focus on Aaron Judge going over five with four strikeouts. Full slate of baseball today and tonight. Speaking of the sweet 16, I always look at the point spreads as we get ready for the games to start. What kind of movement in the betting lines? Houston is now a two and a half point favorite against Illinois. They were three and a half yesterday. Iowa State was a four and a half point underdog against Tennessee. Favorite. Now they're three and a half point favorite against Tennessee. So those are the only two betting lines that have changed. Purdue by seven and a half, Nebraska by one and a half. Arizona seven and a half against Arkansas. Duke by six and a half against St. John's and then Yukon, one and a half point favorite against Michigan State. Now, you can't help but look ahead. If Connecticut would win and St. John's would win and then they would get another rematch in that rivalry. Now, you're not supposed to look ahead, especially when St. John's is a six and a half point underdog and UConn is only a one and a half point favorite against Michigan State. That won't stop us from looking ahead. But Danny Hurley, I'm sure, and Rick Pitino are not looking ahead. Stat of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America. And look, it's easy to criticize Netflix for trying too hard, and they did try too hard last night. But when you have bells and whistles, you want to showcase that. You want to wow the audience. It's, you know, Thursday Night Football didn't start out well. The sound quality was terrible. Now we just kind of accept it. But that's what happens when it's something new. We have to go out of our way to watch it on Netflix. So you're going in already with an attitude of, okay, it was just too much Netflix. It was as if I was tuning into a kind of a PowerPoint on Netflix that there was a baseball game inside of that. Like, look at all the things that we do. And you're trying to go, I'm kind of here to watch the baseball game. Well, Netflix wants to sell you on Netflix, but this happens on the Mothership or NBC or Fox or cbs. You know, remember the World Series where you say, hey, party of five happened to be here at the Yankee game, and there's the cast of Dawson's Creek or whatever Malcolm in the Middle sapping happens to be here. Like, okay, it happens. Product placement. And I thought, L. Duncan did a great job hosting. Kind of strange to hear Barry Bonds say anything. He did say, hey, I was a good teammate. I took all those walks for my, my teammates. As soon as he said it, I spit out my beer and go, hold on. This is the guy who told me years ago, I don't tell my teammates any information because they could be the opponent the following year. That's not a great teammate here, Barry. And you told me that because I said, you know, do you give information to players about hitting or pitchers? And he goes, no, next year they could be my opponent. I'm like, okay. So he said he was a good teammate last night. Matt Vascion does, you know, always good quality baseball. Gives a big feel to it. But, you know, you're watching Bells and whistles. I hate the in game talk to the manager. Especially when we missed the first ever challenge for abs. That didn't help it. I'm like, okay, here we go. Wait, what just happened? I mean, okay, I got to see somebody tap their helmet or I miss seeing somebody tap. There it was the first one.
Paulie
And get that moment back.
Dan Patrick
Never. Yes, Todd.
Todd
And you know who also hates the in game? Coacher manager interviews the coacher manager. Just like in halftime and pregame and post game of any game.
Dan Patrick
I'm sure the reporter hates it too, because you're like, hey, hey, Skip, come, come. No, no, we got to do. No, we'll come out of commercial break, then I got two questions for you. Okay. All right. Okay. All right, back Giants dugout. Okay. Yeah. Paulie.
Paulie
I thought the star last night might have been the Giants ballpark. They. It was like a showcase of what a beautiful place and location it's becoming. Like an antique, a classic.
Dan Patrick
Okay. With a car. Is it 20 years that makes your car an antique?
Paulie
Yes. Correct. It is.20 by the DMV. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Okay. So that's a classic ballpark now.
Paulie
And it was. The sun was going down.
Dan Patrick
It's a beautiful place to watch a game. There's a lot of different ballparks. And when you go like Dodger Stadium, like an afternoon that, that sunshine afternoon, everything is just gorgeous. The Giants location, it's. It is. You want to talk about, okay. The stadium product placement. They nailed it. They did. Now I'm not as big on that right field wall like I. I would like for it to be a little more friendly. I mean, it's a big wall out there, and it felt like Bonds was the only guy who was hitting it into McCovey Cove. But still, it's a beautiful ballpark. The vistas there. And there's a few of those, obviously. I mean, Wrigley, you still go in and it's magic because most of these stadiums because become antiquated. Fenway. So I'm going into a neighborhood, Wrigleyville. I'm going into a neighborhood in Boston. And you get that feel of you're walking from your hotel or a restaurant and you go to a ballpark. And I love that San Francisco. Same way you could stay at your hotel. You could walk, you could go get something to eat. You could go into the ballpark. Yeah.
Seaton
See, it's exactly what it's supposed to be. It's exactly how it's supposed to be laid out. We saw a day baseball game, the Giant stadium, years ago. Barry Zito pitched that day, and we were like, right behind home plate. And he. Watching his curveball drop like that was one of the craziest things I'd ever seen. I hear a lot of good things when you look at lists of best ballparks in the country. I see Petco at the top or near the top of a lot of those in San Diego. I've never been there. I'd really like to see a baseball game there, but I see that as. As top five almost all the time.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I didn't like.
Seaton
Was too sunny. Can the weather just be kind of crappy? Why is it so nice?
Dan Patrick
I think I. I think I went to the ballpark and I didn't think they took advantage of the water. Like, you go to Oracle, you get to see. I mean, it's beautiful. But San Diego, I. I was like, oh, okay. I. Pittsburgh, to me is a better stadium as far as walking to the ballpark. Go across the bridge and the view back to the bridge in the city. Pittsburgh is one of my favorites. I think it's. It's well done. And we'll see it on display later on this afternoon as Paul Skeens goes up against the Mets. Yes, Todd?
Todd
Can we go to a Pirates game at the NFL draft?
Dan Patrick
Okay. I said to Paul, if we get in there on Tuesday, there has to be a Pirates afternoon game before the draft starts on Thursday night. Paul goes, the Pirates aren't home during the NFL draft.
Paulie
I didn't want to bum you guys out. I looked this up a month ago. I was going to see if we could all go on Tuesday, sit there, get sunburned, check out the Pirates, maybe skiings on the mound. They have 18 home games in April. None of them are the week we're there.
Dan Patrick
This has to be by design by the NFL or the.
Paulie
The Pirates. Schedule had to be decided after the NFL gave Pittsburgh the draft. Yes, we're going to check with the Pirates because they're at the Rangers and then at the brewers, but everywhere around it, they're at home.
Dan Patrick
That would have been great for an afternoon. Imagine a Thursday afternoon game. And I know the draft's in town, so you'd have to have Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or. But if you could do a Thursday game, afternoon game, and then roll that right into the draft. Everybody's downtown. Yes, Todd.
Todd
And that's how powerful the NFL is. They can just call Major League Baseball, the Pirates. Just to let you know, there will be no Pirates home games while we're in town. Of the draft.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Let's check on that. You know, I'd like to check on that. See who's calling this. Yes, Paul.
Chase Daniel
What if we just go to the
Paulie
PNC park, the Pirates ballpark, grab some beers, sit there and watch the road game on the Jumbotron? It's a different experience, but I'm up for it.
Dan Patrick
How about we just get together and maybe, you know, have some infield practice, Maybe some vp? Yeah, that'd be nice. No. Batting practice. Yeah. Shag some flies, dude. Yeah, I'll make some. Heck yeah. How about we do that?
Seaton
Heck, yeah.
Dan Patrick
Run around the bases. Oh, yes. Todd.
Todd
We could bring our wiffle ball equipment from the back. We're always playing here. We could just bring it over.
Dan Patrick
Well, you don't, because I had that
Todd
injury and I swung too hard.
Dan Patrick
You got hurt?
Todd
Hurt? My elbow.
Dan Patrick
Are you retired from wiffle ball?
Todd
I'm not retired from wiffle ball, but I came close to Tommy John surgery because I swung a little too hard with the thin bat and the airless ball that I was trying to hit. Got a little too excited, and next thing I know, like, my arm and shoulder had, like, numb tingling sensations.
Dan Patrick
What. What is the. Is that sandwich shop? Is it Jimmy John's or something? But what. What is that? What is. What is it, Paulie?
Paulie
Jimmy John?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. That's the only surgery you've ever had. You hurt yourself?
Seaton
Tommy John's. It's Jimmy John.
Todd
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
You had Jimmy John surgery? It did.
Todd
It was failure. I do like my giant jersey mics up, though. And those are pretty heavy
Seaton
in for the Jimmy Johns, huh?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Y.
Seaton
That's going to cost you your career.
Dan Patrick
Not anymore. Not these days.
Paulie
Double meat, doc. Double meat.
Dan Patrick
Give me a. Give me a sample of a poll question, then we'll take a break. Chase, Daniel will help us understand the. These rising love affair with Ty Simpson. What do you have seen?
Seaton
Well, why don't we start with a simple one? The NFL season opener on a Wednesday night. Love it, hate it, or don't really
Dan Patrick
care either way, but this isn't in Australia, so that one is going to be in Seattle. So Seattle, you win the super bowl, you get to host the first game of the season, and it opens on a Wednesday night. Thursday is the Niners Rams in Australia. Correctamundo.
Seaton
Correctamundo.
Dan Patrick
Okay, I got a little bit more on this coming up, but we'll take a break. By the way, if you're watching on Peacock or NBC Sports Network, what you're going to see during the commercial breaks is the sports Emmy reel that Mario put together that we didn't get nominated for. But he wants you to see the different segments that he put on the Emmy reel that apparently the voting committee didn't think much of. So you can judge yourself as I think this is Mario's way of saying, hey, don't blame me, blame us. I got that feeling today.
Seaton
He could try, but that's not going to work.
Dan Patrick
No, it's not. It's not.
Seaton
I appreciate the effort, but it's not going to work.
Dan Patrick
And by the way, he's moved on. Know him and Anthony are so excited because the Mets are playing today. You got their little T shirts on. They're probably going to be watching or, you know, this afternoon with all their friends here. It's going to be cute. Going to be really a little like
Seaton
a school day where like, okay, today's the day you wear your favorite team's jersey.
Dan Patrick
Guaranteed to be disappointed later on this year, Mets fans. All right, take a break. Chase Daniel will join us coming up right after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

We were talking about we're going to Pittsburgh. We'll be there for the draft. We'll be there Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We'll give you the location and I think we can have about 50 to 60 people there each day, but we'll give you information as we get a little bit closer. And we were hoping the Pirates would be at home. We'd be able to go see even, you know, an afternoon game. Pittsburgh is so overtaken for the NFL draft, Pittsburgh Public Schools are canceling in person Classes around the dates of the draft. So maybe it's going to be a people crunch there and they got their hands full with just the draft. Yes.
Todd
Todd, don't you find that so weak? I grew up in New York, where I remember trudging to school, snow above my knees. I kept the school open in like 8 to 10 inches of snow. The NFL draft is in town and they're closing the school for, I think, multiple days, no school. Because they're making picks in the National Football League. That's insane.
Dan Patrick
And you went a mile both ways uphill, right? I had a long.
Todd
It was a, it was a horizontal walk, but it was several blocks in the freezing cold and snow. It would take a foot of snow for New York to close the schools.
Dan Patrick
Are you calling Pittsburgh soft?
Todd
I will stop short of calling himself because we're going to be there in person in the coming weeks. But I think it's pretty.
Dan Patrick
After we leave Pittsburgh, will you call Pittsburgh?
Todd
Yes. And I'll say the decision makers, whoever was involved with that decision week.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Paul.
Paulie
Or is it cool that the kids and their families will be able to get a jump start on coming downtown and seeing the draft festivities because of this?
Dan Patrick
Pirates Steelers have a first round pick, correct? Like the top 15.
Paulie
Yeah. So it times out a couple hours into the draft before the Steelers pick.
Dan Patrick
Okay, we'll get to your phone calls, we'll settle on our poll question. Ben, we were kind of easing into the draft and all of a sudden Dan Orlopsky starts to fall in love with Ty Simpson, calls him QB1 over Fernando Mendoza. And then all of a sudden now we care about the draft a little bit more. Chase Daniel, ESPN NFL and college football analyst, he joins us on the program. What would you say to those who are critical of Dan Orlofsky's opinion analysis of Ty Simpson over Fernando Mendoza?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, look, I, I talked to Dan quite a bit that after that thing that he said with Ty Simpson over text. And you know, he's just explaining to me, I'm like, dude, you don't have to explain to me. Like you have an opinion and you're one of the few people that watches every single snap. I mean, there's quite a few that are out there, but then to be able to regurgitate it to the public. Here's where I told him that he was a little bit untrue. And when he went on the Pat McAfee show, because I have no issue whatsoever. And I told Dan this to his face. Like, I like that. Like I Tend to agree. Like, I think Ty Simpson is way closer to QB1. I don't think he's QB1. Then he is QB3. But here's where I went and got on him a little bit because we're friends. I said, you said to, you know, millions of people out there, whether it's social media, Pat McAfee show, whatever, that Mendoza didn't play in any big games. Yeah, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, Dan, did you see his college football playoff run? Did you see him against the number one defense in the nation in the Big Ten championship game? And then he went on to be like, I'm like, no, Dan, you don't understand. Ten touchdowns, one interception during those four games. It is the greatest, one of the greatest runs that we've seen in history. Plus, you did it with Indiana against Blue Bloods. I mean, that was a row of teams that. And so I think that's probably, like, I don't really care. Like, there's a lot of people, I've talked to some teams, I talked to a few teams last night that have Simpson over Mendoza, and that's fine, but we just got to understand that quarterback evaluation, sort of a crapshoot. I, I appreciate Dan in his opinion and the platform that he's given. And I think it's. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that, you know, people are saying Dan's represented by caa. Ty Simpson is represented by caa. Look, I don't, I don't play any attention to that. I just got on to Dan for him saying Mendoza didn't play in big games.
Dan Patrick
What is Ty Simpson do better than Fernando Mendoza?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I think he's a more natural thrower of the football. Like, like when you.
Dan Patrick
What does that mean?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, well, when, when I talk to people in the league still or, or former players who are analysts, it just like his throwing motion, his mechanics from the ground up just look beautiful. Dan, like, like, like yesterday in his pro day, it was like everything you would ever teach a young kid on how to throw a football. This is what you want it to look like. And so Mendoza is a little bit more robotic. I think Mendoza has a little bit of a stronger arm. And so when you're throwing it and you're watching it in shorts, you're going to be like, man. And like, Look, I get Mendoza 6, 5. I get Ty Simpson 6, 1, 6 2. But like, people who have played the position, I think more so gravitate toward that and get lost in that. Although that's not, that's not even remotely all of the evaluation. But when I watch him, I feel the same thing. I'm like, man, he's really, really good within the pocket. Got really good mechanics. Now he's only played 15 games. And, and I saw your take and I thought it was right a couple of days ago. I'm like, you want your quarterback to have more than 15 starts? Like, I totally agree with you. Right. But you watch the quality of those starts at the beginning of the year. And I've said this before and I don't think this is a reach. And you can go back and look on my X account, Fritzi or whatever and pull this up. Because like I said, when Ty Simpson after like I think the Missouri game, which was Game 8 or 9 of his season, I'm like, there's nobody playing better in college football like he is. He is locked in to like a very high top pick and he is probably going to win the Heisman if he continues that. That's not being facetious, that's not being hot take, that's not being clickbait. Like you just watch it and it's like, wow. And then all of a sudden it's like a huge drop off in play. Yes, he got sick. Gastritis. Yes, he got hurt a little bit. The offensive line didn't play very well. No run game. And then the last four or five games he really struggled. Got a lot of happy feet. And I think if you're taking Ty Simpson in the draft and that's the number one thing that you have to ask, and I've talked to teams that have asked, like, what happened? Was it just because you were sick? Was it just because you were down to 185 pounds? He just looked like a completely different player. That's my issue on why Ty Simpson's not quarterback one. There was a massive drop off in play.
Dan Patrick
Where would Tom Brady's arm today rank among the starting quarterbacks?
Todd
Wow.
Chase Daniel
You know, for me, I never thought of Tom Brady is like this like huge arm type guy like John Elway, right? I would say it probably be middle of the pack. I mean, that's not what Brady was ever going to win you with. Brady was always going to win you with his brain and his arm. And I feel like I'm getting back into a little bit of a hole right here because I'm like, well, Brady, like he's like not the strongest arm like the goat for sure. But there's. And I think this is a good point because it's like there's so much more to playing quarterback than looking good in shorts. Like I said with Ty Simpson, and I think that's where Fernando Mendoza really crosses that line for me as quarterback.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but I was bringing up Brady because he played in that flag football and he still, he looks good, man, for a guy who's. What is he, 48 now?
Chase Daniel
48, yeah.
Dan Patrick
You know, unbelievable. I mean, he's still, he's still slinging it.
Chase Daniel
He really is. Still got it, man.
Dan Patrick
We're talking to Chase Daniel, ESPN NFL college football analyst. You know, we look at this draft, it's not a sexy draft. You got, you know, Mendoza is going one. The curiosity is Jeremiah Love, is he a top five pick? And then you're going to have Ty Simpson. Other than that, you got, you know, a few wide receivers, some edge rushers there. But I'm curious about your philosophy of drafting a running back. And I don't, I don't look at Jeremiah Love as a running back. I just look at him as an influencer. Like he's, he's going to be out there returning kicks, catching passes and he can hit home runs. Would you take him in the top five if you're Tennessee, do you take him if he's there?
Chase Daniel
Yeah. That's where it gets interesting for me. If you're Tennessee, I think you have to really look at taking an offensive weapon for Cam Ward, because I like for the most part what Cam Ward put on tape now. It was a tough season, a lot of change, a lot of all this. He just doesn't have any weapons. And I would agree with you, there's not many backs out there that do the type of things that Jeremiah Love does. I just think he's a really, really good prospect in a really, really like shallow draft class of like top tier talent.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Chase Daniel
You got the edge rushers, you got the quarterback, really one that's in the top five, in my opinion. So then you're thinking, well, you know, do you want to get an edge? I don't think an offensive tackle necessarily goes in the top five. And so I think you're sort of backing yourself into Jeremiah Love. Here's what's interesting to me is like his contract's not going to be that much compared to Saquon Barkley or compared to all these other guys if you take them and you get them for five years in the first round regardless. But if you can have a guy that can come in and be a three down back, I think he's a lot Better blocker than people give him credit for. I think he's really good out of the backfield. Like, there's no way he's going to make it there. But like, the Saints to me make a ton of sense because, like, I was with Alvin Kamara when Sean Payton drafted him. Now I don't think they're the same player. I think Love's a little bit bigger, but he can have that kind of impact that early on out of the backfield, catching the ball and just the type of person he is. I would absolutely be interested in taking him if I'm the Tennessee Titans.
Dan Patrick
Is there a third quarterback?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, look, that, that is, that is the, the thousand dollar question man. Because when you look at it, it's like for me at least, right? It's like my opinion is like Mendoza and Simpson and I do think they're close. Close, Like, I do think they're close. I think Mendoza is one, I think Simpson is, is two. And then to me, there's a huge drop off to where it's maybe, maybe end of day two, beginning of day three. And that, that person to me would be either Garrett Nussmeier or Drew Aller. Now, Garrett Nussmeier to me is an interesting one because he's a little bit, you know, coaches, kid, he's going to interview well, he's going to look good in shorts. But when you watch the film this past year, yes, I know he was hurt. Yes, Ellis, it just wasn't very good. You go back two years ago in 2024, and you're watching, you're like, okay, like, I can see some traits of a high quality backup, maybe in the right scheme and right fit. If you have to play, you can be successful. And then Drew Aller, I mean, to me, like, I really like them two years ago, but he's probably the most frustrating prospect I've watched in the past couple years when you break down quarterbacks. Because he has all the traits in the world, like, like you look at him just physically, Dan, and you would have said in 2024. I mean, this is what I want my guy to be made of. And then you watch the film, you're like, what are you doing? Like, there's, there's these dope plays here and there that you're just like. And it shares a sentiment of some NFL teams I've talked to with it. But like, if you have good coaching and if you feel really good about developing, I'm not going to say he's going to come in and Play right away. But if you develop them, high level backup can be a starter and then obviously like Carson Beck, I think like there's, there's hit or miss on him. It's just a really, it's like if you want a backup quarterback after Ty Simpson and Mendoza, this is possibly your draft.
Dan Patrick
How does Kyler Murray work in Minnesota?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, that's a great one. I really like it a lot to be honest with you. I think the second that, you know, KOC signed Kyler and then resigned Carson Wentz, like I just think J.J. mcCarthy is going to be quarterback three and could be, you know, on the move in the draft if someone will take him. Like I just, I don't think his, as far as as, you know, JJ McCarthy goes, I think his time with Minnesota is sort of probably done now with Kyler. Here's what is really good about Kyler because I, I like the way he plays but he's very much, I want to do it myself type quarterback, right? So like I'm going to put it all on me. I'm going to do all this. He doesn't have to do that anymore. Like you look at the offensive system, he's going to plus the playmakers around him. If KLC can get him to just be like, hey, just throw an out route to the field on time. You don't want to take his stinger away by scramble but like just throw a three step hitch. Let's just, let's just move the ball down the field. He's never done that. But with Kyler it makes a lot of sense. You're getting him for $1.3 million, but he could turn his career around. I mean he really could. And the fact that he's going to a guy like koc, man, I really like it.
Dan Patrick
Great to talk to you as always. Thanks for joining us. We'll talk to you again leading up to the draft.
Chase Daniel
All right, Dan, thanks for having me on.
Dan Patrick
That's Chase Daniel. You can check out the Chase Daniels show on YouTube. He breaks down the quarterbacks. He's great at doing it. ESPN NFL college football analyst. Couple of phone calls. Chris in Syracuse. We got our play of the day coming up soon. Hi Chris.
Chris
Hi, Dan. Hey, thank you very much. I got a comment, a question for you. I'm very excited for baseball starting and for my Cincinnati Reds. And Dan, whatever happened to the big panic over torpedo bats beginning of last season after the Yankees had their nine home run game and all the talk was torpedo bats are going to ruin baseball. That lasted a Couple weeks and you haven't heard anything? I think it had more to do with Yankee haters and the bats themselves. And Dan, remember, it was probably some 15 years ago. All I said on my call was that the Yankees were arguably. Arguably the greatest sports franchise ever. And you had Peter King on right after my call, and he was livid. He ripped my take shreds. It was classic. And as I said then, methinks the Springfield, Mass. Native doth protest too much. And Dan, you mentioned yesterday that you once had station wagon where you had to roll it to get it going, just like the Karate Kid and his mom. So I guess that makes you the od, the original Daniel Son. And Dan, like Karate Kid. Did you ever take dates out in your wagon?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but not many. Not many. They were lean times. Lean times in high school and college for Danny Boy. I think I hit my prime once. I got. Maybe when I got to cnn, when I hit New York all of a sudden.
Paulie
Unleashed.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. It was kind of like Jon Voight in the movie with Dustin Hoffman. Midnight Midnight Cowboy or he's a male prostitute.
Seaton
Sometimes it takes a little while to get there, but when you figure it out, it clicks.
Dan Patrick
I kept thinking the women have to figure it out, not me. And then I realized nobody wants a unibrow data guy, you know, unless you're Anthony Davis.
Paulie
Right.
Dan Patrick
And of course, Marvin loves Anthony Davis. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
First of all, I do. And then second of all, it's kind of like Steph Curry. Steph Curry didn't hit his stride until year five.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
So you're kind of like Steph Curry the day in world.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah, that's.
Todd
That's.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that's right.
Marvin
Unanimous MVP one year.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marvin
Down in Atlanta. Doing work.
Dan Patrick
Not damage.
Marvin
It's work.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, just work.
Marvin
Atlanta work.
Dan Patrick
New York work. Yes, Todd.
Todd
And you appreciate it that much more because you know, the journey that it took to get to that school. Something's just handed to you. You don't understand how to get to that stuff.
Dan Patrick
I know I didn't wake up good looking. You know, this is a long process,
Todd
Todd, but it's just so much more fulfilling when you know what you went through to get to that spot, to the top of the hill.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Seaton.
Seaton
It doesn't buy you happiness, Dan.
Dan Patrick
I can tell you that.
Seaton
There's other struggles.
Paulie
It rents when you just.
Seaton
You're born so good looking. It just. I know there's other struggles in life. I know people take you for granted. People don't.
Dan Patrick
I know stuff the back row knows that quite well. You do. You guys were boy band.
Seaton
We were born on third in terms of our looks, no doubt about it.
Dan Patrick
I don't think anybody scored. I don't think you guys got the home plate, though. I think you guys stayed at third. Well, Todd did.
Todd
I was more of a sac fly guy than any kind of extra base, let the truth be told. I don't care how many weights I was left.
Dan Patrick
Would you leave early from third base? You know, when they, they would challenge
Todd
it and they would throw it back to the baby.
Dan Patrick

Dan Patrick
I don't think we do.
Paulie
We need one.
Dan Patrick
Do you want to offer up One.
Paulie
No, I had to think about this. Wilt Chamberlain did it in 68. Russell Westbrook did it in 2019. Jokic did it in 25, and he went 30, 20, 20.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. There's only three, I think, in NBA history. Yeah. And Joker fell one assist shy of his fourth of the fourth. 20, 20, 20 triple double in NBA history. You know, I'll bet Wilt Chamberlain had games where he had 20, 20, 20 and 20 blocks. Just the fact that they didn't start keeping that stat until what, the 80s in that wild. Two of the greatest shot blockers. In fact, the greatest shot blockers of all time, Wilt and Bill Russell don't get credit. They don't get credit for how many, you know, block shots. They'll be like, oh, yeah, it probably blocked of, you know, three or four. No, they probably average at least 10 blocks a game. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, there wasn't a defensive player of the year award until maybe like 1982 or something like that. So their entire careers, no type of accolades for the defensive prowess.

I thought it went very well.

Todd
We've been trying to do maybe closer to like in the 40 range or so, but we just get rolling and we're having a good time. Next thing you know, it's something in the hour.

Tony Fusco
Hey, what's up? Dan, I know you're a little still bummed out about the sports Emmy situation, but I think Todd could maybe make you feel better by wearing that Mark Davis wig maybe around the studio there for you.
Dan Patrick
So would you be willing to wear the Mark Davis wig to cheer me up?
Todd
I would. It was a little itchy and I don't love it. But if it would cheer you up and you felt it was necessary I. For morale, then of course I would.
Dan Patrick
How about next hour? Just. Just one hour for the entire hour. Okay. How about the first segment?
Todd
That's fine. If you wanted me to wear for the hour, I would, but it is very itchy to the scalp. But it's the meaning of my hair.
Dan Patrick
But I know. How about you sacrifice for me?
Todd
You tell me what you want me to do and I will do it.

Dan Patrick
You think you can do it?
Todd
Yes.
Dan Patrick
That's all righty. Fair enough. Andrew in Michigan. Hi, Andrew. What's on your mind?
Tony Fusco
Hey, good morning, Dan. Thanks for taking my call. 5 11, 245. Thank you. Hey, I gotta made a comment about the game on Netflix last night. And you're always talking about letting the game breathe and just didn't feel like that last night. There would be a hammer angle of the pitch, then it goes right to a camera angle of a fan and then another fan and then the coach and then go right back to the pitcher. You never got to see him like set up and for check base runners, you know. So that's all I. Yeah, it was.
Dan Patrick
It was bumpy, Andrew. There are elements that were good. This is what happens when you have all these new toys and bells and whistles and you want to showcase all of it. It. It's normal. And then they'll settle in. But they don't have that many games that they're doing, I don't think. Now is that right? I don't think Netflix is doing a lot of baseball games. At least I didn't get that feeling. But yeah, I was a little inundated with net flixian things and personalities. Baseball is a game that you. It shouldn't be a lot of different camera cuts. It should be. Let. Let it just kind of breathe a little bit there. But if you're trying to showcase. Hey, look at our graphics. Look at this camera angle. Hey, we got a big n out in McCovey co. Okay, we got it. We got it. Settle down. Yes.
Todd
Todd, Are you saying it needs to be netfixed?
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna give you a bloop on that one.
Todd
I'll take a mini bloop.
Dan Patrick
No, I'm gonna give that to you. Jacob in Oklahoma. Hi, Jake.
Tony Fusco
Hey, good morning, Dan. I also have a comment about the Netflix broadcast. I had to do a double take. It was Jameis Winston. I wasn't ready for that before the game. I did not expect him at the Giant Stadium. And then Barry Bonds. He hasn't even been around the public for a while. And then his comments about being a good teammate. I know you said that, but I was just. I immediately thought of you because I had no idea what he was talking about. And I don't think he did either. And it just felt like the other people on the broadcast were like, defending him. It just felt weird. And one last thing, Dan. The dancers for the starting lineups before the game were not.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Jake. Do you have that information, Paulie?
Paulie
Yeah, Netflix only has three games this year. It's almost like three standalone events. Opening night, the Home Run Derby, and MLB at Field of Dreams.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that's it. It'll be hard to kind of settle in with only three games. All right, coming up next hour, Fritzi puts on the Raiders owner's wig. Mark Davis, not his actual hairpiece, but the one a reasonable facsimile. And a little later on, Mac McClung on the program. It's here.

Hour 1 delivers classic Dan Patrick Show style: smart, forgivingly rambling sports talk spiced with pop culture and inside humor. From the Emmy “snub,” to the excesses of Netflix’s debut MLB broadcast, to a meaty football breakdown with Chase Daniel, the show covers the culture and business of sports as much as the games themselves. The Netflix baseball production, Barry Bonds’ surprising self-defense, the spectacle of sports events in the streaming era, and the complex art of NFL quarterback evaluation all get scrutinized, with fan feedback and crew ball-busting keeping the mood lively as ever.
