This is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Made it to a Thursday. It's hour one. Come on in. Stay a while. Marvin's here. Paulie, that's your front row, back row, Seaton and Fritzi, and of course, the back room guys as well. We got football coming up. 10 hours and counting until kickoff. Miami and Ole Miss, NFL games over the weekend. Trey Young gets traded. Man, it's not that he wanted out of Atlanta. It's Atlanta was going to trade him, and I think he got to pick maybe where he was going to land, and he picked Washington for some reason. I don't know how many options he had, but this is one of those where you look at his stats. He led the NBA in assists last year. Like, you look at his numbers and you go, of course Trey Young's a great player. He's not. He has great stats, not a great player. And obviously a liability on defense. And, you know, you go back to Jordan Pool, got punched in the face by Draymond Green and got traded to Washington. It feels like if you get traded to Washington, you are getting a punch in the face. But Trey Young decided that's where he wanted to go. So now he's a member of the Wizards. The artist formerly known as Trey Young. Yes.
B
Paulie, you want to get traded to the Washington Wizards? You want to go to a quieter, less relevant place?
A
Well, Atlanta is not a great place for NBA basketball.
B
Atlanta has been threatening over the past decade here and there, and had some nice teams. The Wizards are 10 and 26.
A
Yep. I. You know, unless he wanted to go and he could still be the main guy. He's not the main guy on Atlanta anymore. Not the best player on that team anymore. And they decided that you're going to move in a different direction. And they've got some young players. But I go back to the Atlanta Hawks when Dominique Wilkins, when you had that great team and going toe to toe with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference, you didn't get a great fan base. You got fans who showed up to see the team that was coming into town. And I was there when they were playing in the Omni. And I remember you could stop over and move your way down to second, third, fourth row and watch great basketball. But, you know, it's not a. It's not a great sports town professionally. Even the Braves, I go back to when they were terrible, but they had a nucleus there. Like, they had a lot of young talent. They just weren't very good. But you could see where they were going to be something. And you'd go to Fulton County Stadium, and I got to sit wherever I wanted to. I was working at cnn, and at the time, it's a college town. They love their Georgia Bulldogs, and rightfully so. But Trey Young out of Atlanta, and this is a guy gives you 27 and 10. Used to be hard to find 27 and 10. Today's NBA feels like it's a little more readily available, believe it or not. Yeah.
B
Paul, there's one issue I got to bring up before we move on to football. I saw an alert yesterday with the Hawks trade and said hawks trading Trey Young to the Washington Wizards in blockbuster trade. Yeah.
A
What a blockbuster.
B
I don't think you could use the word blockbuster.
A
Well, you have to have another decent player. CJ McCollum is not blockbuster.
B
It's being thrown around a lot. Blockbuster.
A
It's not a blockbuster. It's not a stunning trade. I saw that headline. It was stunning that maybe he wanted to go to the Wizards. Like, this is stunning. But, yeah, blockbuster. It was just a trade. You know, this has been in the works. You know, last year there was talk of trading Trey Young. But you know what? Those headline writers, they got you to click Blockbuster deal. Yes. Marvin Luca going to the Lakers is a blockbuster. That's a blockbuster. Trey Young. Oh, okay. About time. Got to come up with a lesser word. How about buster? Not blockbuster. Yeah, it's a buster deal. That's just a trade. Trade Young.
B
There's been a trade.
A
Ryan Fitzpatrick, he will join us on loan from NFL on Prime. And Jesse Palmer, ESPN college football analyst, will join us as well. It's kind of like every model is a supermodel. Not really. Oh, I know there's a few supermodels. That's not every trade is a blockbuster trade. And not everybody is a porn star.
B
Right. Just character actor in a porn movie.
A
Yeah. Sometimes you're a role player.
B
Sometimes we've all been there.
A
Yeah. Sometimes it's just a cameo. Thank you, Todd. That's it.
B
Glad we got on this one.
A
We'll come up with a poll question, play of the day, stat of the day, all of that forthcoming. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app or the NBC Sports Network. As a male, once they start showing your name and face, you've become a star. 877 3DP show. Are you guys star, aka Peter North. Oh, oh, whoa, whoa. We're breaking it down. Oh, I'm Sorry, am I still going with the wrong storyline out of the day? Brought to you by Panini America the official trad cards of the DP show. Todd has wondered if he ever wiped with a piece of dry toilet paper and wondered is this as good as it gets? And I said no Todd, because the extra large flushable dude wipes are available. Wetter is better available at Amazon major retailers nationwide. Dude wipes best clean, pants down. Come up with a poll question. Oh, by the way, you know the whole transfer portal here, The Washington quarterback Demon Williams who signed a contract with Washington and then all of a sudden decided to put his name in the portal. I don't know what the language is, but once again you got all the grown ups who have totally screwed this up because you can fix college football. I mean not totally, but you can fix it that it works for everybody and there's no gray area. And that's what you have. I don't know if you sign a contract that a team, another school can't, you know, tamper with you but. But LSU was tampering with Demon Williams, the great quarterback and he signs a contract now he's in the portal and word is that he's going to end up at lsu. I don't think you can punish the kid because he decided yes, I signed a contract, but now you're going to force him to go back to Washington. It's just not going to happen. They might penalize LSU for, for reaching out to a kid who'd signed a contract. But I don't know what these contracts are like. They should be standardized that if you sign the contract then you are beholden to that school for that year because he's probably getting paid, got a signing bonus, he's going to have to pay that back. But there's once again this is going on and it's going to continue to go on until somebody says, hey, I got an idea here. You can get some smart people together and you can solve a lot of this. Whether it's when the season starts, when the season ends, when coaches can leave the transfer portal, nil collectives. And it's crazy. It is crazy out there and going to continue to get until somebody says, hey, I got some ideas. Would somebody listen to me? By the way, I brought up the transfer portal with Brendan Sorsby. He was Cincinnati's quarterback, he's going to Texas Tech. I was initially told that he's getting $5 million a year. Now I find out it's 5.98, so almost $6 million a year to go to Texas Tech. Texas Tech, I believe, spent $7 million on their defensive line last year, maybe their offensive line. But if I look at cam Ward, number one pick, he made $8.8 million. And you got. Brendan Sbe is going to make almost $6 million. So Cam Ward, the number one pick, $8.87 million in the NFL, and you've got a quarterback in college making almost $6 million. And then you got the Lane Kiffin situation, where Lane is getting paid. If Ole Miss continues to win, Lane wins. Jimbo Fisher had some strong words to say about Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss when they were in the playoffs and now at lsu. It's selfish. That's what it is. It's stupid. And because here's why I say that he, he wanted to coach and thought he didn't get his way. So everybody get on the plane with me. You don't have a job, all right? He makes them all go. Then he gets down there and takes a PR hit because it looks bad that you really don't care about the kids. Then he says, okay, you can go back. But here's where he screwed up. He thought they were going to lose. He thought they're going to lose to Georgia and the portal thing was all over with. And it was going to be all over with. He said, okay, I'll look like a hero. Now he's got egg on his face. Cuz the, the real Lane came back out. You know what I'm saying? And he's. And if those guys were allowed to coach the first game, they should be allowed to coach it for. Cuz those guys are doing. Those kids are doing something that you get one time in your life to ever do. Okay? But college football has created this situation. Why can't we get to a point where the end of this, the college football season, if we make it earlier and then Lane Kiffin goes to lsu, he wasn't going to pass up lsu. Great opportunity, I get it. But I wouldn't have let him coach Ole Miss. And now I think because he took an incredible PR hit, that's when Lane goes, well, I'll loan you, you know, the coaches back. Now, keep in mind, reportedly, when he was going to lsu, said to his coaches, you're either on the plane or you're not. So they made a fast getaway. And then all of a sudden, I think Lane thought that Ole Miss wasn't going to go this far, that they would lose to Georgia. And then, hey, you know what, man? We Had a really good year, and I wish them well, and, you know, go, Tigers. But you have this game coming up tonight, and if you're Lane Kiffin, I know if you win, if Ole Miss wins, you. You win with money, but you don't win. I don't think with public perception of this, because then it's going to be. Well, they're winning without Lane Kiffin. Now. He helped build this team, and I'm wondering how we're going to look. What if Ole Miss wins the national title and they. They can. They're in the final four. How are we going to view Lane Kiffin when it's all said and done? Is it going to be Lane Kiffin? One national championship on his resume? Does he get a national championship Asterisk? Does he get part of a national championship? Does he get a ring? Is he part of the ceremony? But Lane miscalculated. Yes. He was going to take the job. I think he thought Ole Miss was going to lose earlier. Therefore, this doesn't hang and it's there. And then when I saw that Lane was maybe going to join the broadcast or be part of the pregame, I go, no, no. Let these kids have their moment. You could have had it. You chose to take the money and run. And then you decide to loan out your assistant coaches, which. That's very generous. That's nice. I'm glad that those assistant coaches are able to help. And I can't help but root for Ole Miss just because of the story. It's wild, but I hope Lane knows. Stay in your lane. See what I did with Anton? Very clever. Thank you. Stay in your lane. Root from afar. Hopefully you're rooting for Ole Miss to win, and you also get a million dollars. Yeah, Paul.
B
And this story could be in play for years if Ole Miss happens to win the national title. I think publicly, Lane Kiffin's going to get very little credit, even though he built this program up. But if he does not win a title at LSU and Ole Miss happens to win one, it'll be on his resume forever.
A
Well, okay. If Ole Miss wins. Well, even Ole Miss, where they are now, LSU's got a match this next year. Like, it feels like the pressure. And Lane knows that Lane will recruit. Lane is a really good coach, but he. He doesn't. He hasn't won anything. When you think about it, the Raiders was a mess. USC was a mess. Tennessee was a mess. You know, old Miss, I thought was, man, stay there. And I get it. It's easy for me to. You Know, say something or play with other people's money. I go back to that documentary that the Mothership did and I, if you would have bet, I would say, man, that guy is as happy as he's ever been. But it's rare when you find the coach who doesn't. And I liken it to. If you've ever lived in New York City, you get an apartment and you immediately start looking for your next apartment because there's always going to be a better apartment. And that's what coaches do. Hey, this is good. Wait, what's he getting? Wait, is that going to be open? And that's what Lane does. LSU is not going to be his final stop and. But that's just who he is. He's always going to be on the move. But I'd love to have a camera on Lane Kiffin tonight as he watches this game. Yes, Todd. So in a purely honest moment, I know there's a little extra money attached to it, but with the kind of millions he's making, it's not going to change his lifestyle much if they win in another game or two. Does Lane Kiffin want Ole Miss to win tonight and win the national title without him? We can talk about that. But that game coming up tonight, it's Ole Miss and Miami and Miami to be as physical like you go back to the U when they were, they were really physical. This team run the football and they play defense. And to see Ohio State be out physical, it's like watching Alabama against Indiana and you're like, wait a minute, what is happening here? Well, this is, this is the new college football. All it takes is, you know, a somebody really rich who wants to help you change the roster. Mark Cuban is helping Indiana. You got a billionaire helping Texas Tech. These kids don't want to stay as the third string quarterback in Alabama anymore. Oregon's got Nike. And as I told you, college source said you either have oil money or tech money. That's what you need today. And if you're spending $50 million like you got to keep up with everybody. It's, it's close to 40 to $50 million and it's not sustainable. And the grownups allowed all of this to happen. Hey, I applaud Brendan Swordsby to get almost $6 million. Good for you. I hope you produce. Yeah.
B
Paulie, can Warren Buffett help out Nebraska? And they, can they make some calls to uncle Warren? He's 95, he just retired.
A
You know, I could help the Oscars, you know, do they need my help? Yes, they do. They could use your help, Warren. How about we take a break? Got phone calls coming up. Jesse Palmer and, or as Pritzy likes to say, the dreamy Jesse Palmer. He'll join us a little bit later. I was at a private chat, but once again, you air the public laundry. You watch Bachelor and Bachelorette. I do not. I do not. He's as handsome as ever on those shows. Let's call it. That's the problem. He's too handsome. Too handsome like the host can't be more handsome than the Bachelor. Yeah, the women want to get picked by him. Yeah. Yes. Paul.
B
It's like Brady with the Raiders. The best quarterback can't be in the front office.
A

Todd McShay, draft expert, put out his mock draft and he talked about Dante Moore, the Oregon quarterback. And he was saying, hey, if he was him, you, nobody wants to play for the Jets. Well, if you're going to be the second pick overall now, I would hope that Dante Moore would go back and play a little bit more because I've talked about this. I got to have at least 30 to 35 starts, maybe even a little more than that to get a true sense of just how good you're going to be. Because too many teams make the same mistake. Hey, that guy had a great season. Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, that's not enough. You gotta have at least 30 to 35 starts in college football. Now I can go to Bo Nicks, Jaden Daniels, they had over 50 starts. And you have that bonus Covid year though. But Dante Moore, should he go back to Oregon? Well, I'm, I'm curious. The end result of the playoffs, let's say he wins the national championship, could he supplant Fernando Mendoza as the number one pick in the draft? It would be really difficult to pass up on that if you're Dante Moore. And from what I've seen he looks like he's a really good quarterback. But you know the UCLA situation where you get injured, you're not playing, and then you end up at Oregon. Oregon can make you look a whole lot better than maybe what you are. I mean, Dylan Gabriel, he played a lot of games and they won a lot of games. He's probably a career backup quarterback in the NFL. Bo Nix went to a couple of different places and you're playing big time football, you know, when he transferred to Oregon and he's proven that he's probably a franchise quarterback. Joel Klatt Fox COLLEGE FOOTBALL analyst on the advice that he would give to Dante Moore. If Dante Moore called me today and he said, hey, like, what should I do? I wouldn't blink an eye. I would say go back to school. Because it's no longer just a financial decision. He can make life changing money at Oregon, much less the National Football League. Yeah, he had those comments with Colin Cowherd. Yes, you can make four or five million dollars. Now you want to get into that second contract when you get to the NFL, but now you're kind of making that amount of money. 3.5, 4, 4.5. You got Oregon in the semifinals here. What if you play for a championship? What if you win a championship? But I don't see these kids going, hey, I don't want to play for the Jets. Like, at some point the jets will be a decent team, competitive team. I really feel that way now. Might not be in my lifetime. But I'm just saying that there, there will be a moment where the jets can actually be formidable if they start making these smart draft picks, these smart decisions here. But Dante Moore, I haven't seen enough of him. Where I go, boy, that guy can't miss. Because it feels like every time I feel like there's a guy who can't miss, he misses. But that's why I go back to give me 35 starts. Now. I got a good sample size, but going to the jets, going to the Raiders, I mean, nobody's saying to Fernando Mendoza, hey, don't go to the Raiders. Well, the Raiders are just as much of a mess as the jets are. The Raiders had the worst offensive line in football. You don't even know if Ashton Genti is going to be great. You know, Bowers will be. And you might trade Max Crosby. So what do you got? Did you go to the Jets? Okay, I mean, the pressure's on, but it's not like the pressure's on that you got to be Great. Hey, you just got to be better than the Giants to start out with. The Raiders are in the toughest, one of the toughest divisions in football. But nobody is saying, Fernando Mendoza don't go to the Raiders. We know what he, he can do, and we heard that from Dan Orlovsky. Like the ability to be able to make these decisions at the line of scrimmage, that's the NFL. I don't know if Dante Moore is able to do that. Like Ty Simpson with Alabama. I would say go back, but then Alabama might say, you know what, you can go. We got another quarterback coming in. That's what happens. It's quick because now you can get a replacement. It doesn't have to be on your roster. You can just put it out there and go, anybody want to play quarterback at Alabama? Here's the price. And you're going to get a lot of applicants there. It's not like, well, the backup is going to be there. Fernando Mendoza's brother is his backup at Indiana. They went out and got another quarterback. He's not even guaranteed of getting that opportunity. They're like, no, no, no, we're big time football now. We got money. We're going to go out and get another quarterback here. Yeah.
B
Paulie, do you think Ty Simpson of Alabama looked at the landscape and said, yeah, I'm the third best quarterback right now and that's a good position to be in in this draft. I may have to go late first, early second. But the downside is you come back like you said, and you don't get the reins or.
A
Yeah, I mean, we've seen this Drew Aller at Penn State. Remember, he was going to be a big deal. He, he might be the best quarterback in college, and then all of a sudden he wasn't. And does his name come up at any point? It's quick, man. It's quick. You're really good. You're the guy. And then you are not the guy. Or you get injured or the team's not as good and then you try to come back, I get it. If Ty Simpson thinks that. And look, you have. He's probably had an agent for the last three years. But if you're leaning on people to give you information and one of my sources has been asked to give information to agents and he doesn't want to do that because he, he just, he has information that he has to give to teams, not to agents. And the agents want to know, hey, can you give me a sense. Can you give me a. And that's what they, that's what they ask, hey, where do you think best case scenario, worst case scenario and do I think Ty Simpson? It wasn't that long ago where we were talking about maybe, maybe late first round. Then all of a sudden you hear he's probably a second day, third day draft pick here. And Paul, you're right. You know, if you're the third quarterback, okay, chances are you're going to go a little bit higher than you need to or you should. Yeah.
B
Paulie, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the 21st, first pick of the draft. That could be a position where you go to a better franchise, a more stable franchise, you might have a better chance to have a better career.
A
I just don't know. I mean I watched him many smooth but you know, you're at Alabama. It's kind of hard not to be good at some of these school like Ohio State. It's really. I thought Justin Fields was going to be a great quarterback because I saw him in college and I go he's a great quarterback. And all of a sudden you go, I don't know if he could throw the football in the NFL. Yeah. Seaton, do you know if the type of agent that a college football player can have is different than an NFL type agent? Like you're allowed to have like, you know there's a marketing agent that gets you like brand deals. Yeah. But that sometimes that isn't the same thing as the agent who negotiates your contract with the team. That's a different guy. I don't know that. Yeah, I don't know either. I wonder if there's a, if there's a difference when you're in college and like the, the brand type marketing agent helps with your nil deals. Yeah. But is, is there that like more traditional sports agent that would be negotiating contracts and stuff? Well, I would want to get in bed early so I would want to. If I'm one of these big time agents, I'll, I'll negotiate your contract at Alabama or Oregon because then I want to negotiate your contract when you get to the NFL. I, I want to start early instead of wait till you get to the NFL. Yeah.
B
Paul, Scene's right on this in that there's different types of agents. The traditional agent from like CAA that rep Patrick Mahomes and the top quarterbacks in the draft. Then there's nil specific agencies that have been just blowing up in the past five years that handle college guys specifically.
A
Get some phone calls in here. We'll settle on A Poll Question 8 7, 7, 3 DP. Show play of the day coming up as well. Ryan in Pennsylvania. Good morning, Ryan. What's on your mind?
C
Hello there. 5, 10, 145. I just had two kind of questions. One would be, Lane Kiffin was coaching for six years there at Ole Miss. I would wonder how many coaches have been at the same place for six years. Whether it's at the SEC or the Big Ten. I don't know. I was just curious because it seems like kind of a long time these days.
A
It is for Lane. But you're right. Six years is a long time. But that's where you get to six years. Are you more likely to go or less likely to go? And I thought Lane had kind of figured it out. He had finally figured it out. Now. Now he's going to be. He's a villain. He's going to be. And I'm fine with that, but he's going to be. I don't know if there's other villains out there, but you know, he's coming to town and can't wait for LSU to play Ole Miss in Oxford next year. But six years, that seems like an eternity nowadays. But you're always wanting to be ahead of the situation. You're always like that. That seems like it's better than this one. What if I have a 8 and 5 year? How many 8 and 5 years can I have before they're going to want to get rid of me? How long can you be on scholarship? May we see this happen? It doesn't take long. It can be a year or two years. And all of a sudden we're like, yeah, you know what? Time to move on here. Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris. What's on your mind?
C
Hey, thanks, Dan. Yeah, a couple comments off the Lane Kiffin, you know, when you guys were talking about whether he's rooting for him to win tonight, I bet you he's not. You know, I heard something. Who knows if it's true, but that he is purposely Texting Charlie Weiss Jr. During meetings that he's in. So, yeah, would say he's not. And I like Ole Miss tonight. Their offense moves with such pace and when they throw the ball, they get rid of it so fast. I think that will negate that Miami pass rush. And Dan, I'm echoing what you were saying in the first segment. I totally agree. I don't think Lane, Kevin Kiffin ever dreamed that Ole Miss could have made it this far. And if he did, he would have stayed. And if Ole Miss wins the national championship, Every year Lane Kiffin is at LSU and they go without a title. He is going to be dogged by the fact that he had one at Ole Miss and he chose to leave at the 2 minute warning for LSU and he'll never forget that. The media will never let him forget that and it really could define his coaching legacy.
A
Thank you, Chris. Miami is favored by three and a half tonight. Oregon is getting three and a half against Indiana tomorrow night. Indiana is the big favorite to win it all, followed by Miami, Oregon and then Ole Miss. Michael in Ontario. Hey Mike, what's on your mind?
C
Yes, six three and a piece. Used to be six, five and a piece. Marathon 158 and 80 come my next birthday in March. Anyway, I go back to football when John McKay was tearing my heart out at USC and Gary Beavan was winning the Heisman Trophy when I was in college. But I think that NIL is going to end the SEC as we now know it as a real power conference simply because five of the ten poorest states in the United States are make up the sec. Texas is the only and Georgia are the only really affluent states. They just don't have the money.
A
Well, all it takes is a billionaire, as I mentioned, Michael, but thank you. Yeah, and once again I'm just going by what a source told me. You got tech money or oil money and if you don't have that, you better have a sugar daddy who's willing to spend that kind of money. And look, we wondered for a while, Mark Cuban went to Indiana and he is a multi billionaire and we thought, man, is he going to get involved in Indiana, Indiana sports? And I thought maybe basketball. And now the report comes out that he was helping finance the Indiana football program and that's all it takes. You just got to get somebody to give you the other money because the other money separates you. That's where all of a sudden you can be on par with Georgia and Alabama because it used to be they had money or they had people who were willing to spend money and you could get players, keep players. Now I mean Texas Tech, they're spending money, they're spending oil money. You spent almost $6 million for your quarterback. Yeah, Morph T Boom Pickets. He's coming from the grave right now. Well, I said for years that's all it would take. He wanted nothing more than Oklahoma State to be a power. And they had a really, a couple of really good years. Yeah, but they just couldn't get over the hump. But that's why I thought. And there's so much money that can be handed out without it being discovered. Or yeah, you know, we can do it in a clandestine way. There's money, there's money to be made and the players know it, parents know it, agents know it, everybody knows it, and they're going after it. But where does it stop? Because is it sustainable? Can you continue to pay this kind of money? Is Congress going to get involved in this? You know, college football is waiting for Congress to help them out. Like, they made such a mess. They're like, how do we get out of this Congress? That's what they're waiting for. Congress to clean this up. And it's unfortunate, except for I was told last night, do you know how much time everybody talks about the NFL and coaches hired and fired? All of this has nothing to do with the games. Here we are talking about college football and it has nothing to do with the games. College football loves this. College football has never had this kind of attention. Now you can say, do you want kind of messy attention? Well, there are people subscribe to the fact that there's no such thing as, you know, bad publicity. I disagree with it. But college football is being talked about. Yes, Mark, College football has a WWE type of feel to it because the storyline might be better than the game. And that's all it's about. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah.
B
Paulie, I would argue back with that last caller that said the SEC will drop because some of the states in the SEC aren't big money states. You only need one or two billionaires to step up. And in the states like Arkansas, the Walton family is involved. They've got unlimited funds. So. And also billionaires in the SEC states are much more likely to be involved in their school or local school. Kenny Dillingham of Arizona State last week said, I need a billionaire to step up in Arizona. College football might not be as big of a priority as it is in Arkansas or Alabama or Mississippi or Georgia. Clearly it isn't.
A
Well, if the Walton family is giving money to Arkansas, better ask for receipts. Yeah, yeah. Because Arkansas isn't any good. It's where, you know, when you spend the money like Kentucky would spend money in basketball years ago, but they knew that that team was going to be playing for a national championship. And I go back to this, you know, mid-70s with Kentucky basketball. I mean, I don't know what Adolph Rupp was doing, but, you know, I can only guess, you know, you were spending money. UCLA with John Wooden. You had a sugar daddy. I mean, Kareem went from New York to la, you know, so they always seem to get that great, great player or two. How are they doing that? Yeah, we always looked at John Wooden. We go, oh, man, he's such a cute guy. And, you know, meanwhile, you had Sam Gilbert, you know, handing out money. Yeah, Marvin. I love Wilt Chamberlain going from Philadelphia to Kansas. There's no college basketball lineage in Philadelphia. Huh? Huh? Let's take a break. Phone calls coming up. Ryan Fitzpatrick will join us a little later on. And who else is going to join us? Jesse Palmer. Oh, that's right. Jesse Palmer. All right, we're back with the play of the day. After this, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app, search FSR to listen live. Oh, my God. Oh, no, No. Emmanuel quickly wins it for Gerardo. Emmanuel Quickley, the game winner for the Raptors. That's courtesy of fanduel Sports Network. Man, I'm watching my Hornets and I'm buying into the Hornets and then all of the Hornets, they led for 70% of the game and then they end up losing the game. It's your play of the day brought to you by the hottest rookies, biggest superstars, the all time greats. The only place to collect them all. Panini trading cards, official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. You can start or continue collection now. Panini America.net these are the coaches who have been at their current schools for six years or more. Actually, I'll, I'll make it five years. Kirk Ference, he's been at Iowa 27 years. Dabo Sweeney, Clemson, 17. Dave Doran at NC State, 13 years. Jeff Monkin at Army, 12 years. Pat Narduzzi at Pittsburgh, 11 years. Kalani Sataki at BYU is 10 years. PJ Fleck, Minnesota 9. Jeff Traylor, University of Texas, San Antonio, six years. Brett Bielema at Illinois, five years. Also here's a comp for you is Lane Kiffin, the John Calipari of college football. Now, Caliperi did win a national championship, but John was at UMass. Memphis, Kentucky. Now Arkansas, much more successful, but you know, you get that same kind of personality there. And John's doing a good job at Arkansas, but didn't do a great job at Kentucky. With all the talent that he reminds us that he, I. I say to him, stop reminding people of all the talent you had that you only won one national title. Nobody cares that you got guys that have made a collective billion dollars in the NBA. Yes, Marvin, if Lane Kiffin got Florida Atlantic to the national title game, then all right, I would give you that comparison because look at what Calipari did. UMass. Yeah. You've been Amherst. I've been to Amherst, yeah. Memphis. Yeah. You haven't heard about them since. Yeah. Keith and Charlotte. Hi, Keith. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan.
C
Thanks for calling me back again.
A
Yeah.
C
Hey, man, why'd you have to bring up that Charlotte game last night? But I'll move on. That was a tough one to watch. Hey, so I think I called around my birthday, which was November 5th, and I made a bet to the group about the Panthers making the playoffs for a pie to the face. You guys waffled a little bit.
A
Or at least Eaton waffled a little bit.
C
Then he looked up the stats and he eventually took the bet. So I think he owes me a pot of the face.
A
Pie to the face. Seaton. Okay, sure. Gotta admit, I don't remember a lot of the bets. I don't either, but I probably did. Yeah, that sounds like something I would do. I think I gotta get a designated pie guy that, that he writes down all of these bets. Paulio's a pie for the Arch, Manning is gonna breeze to the Heisman and be the number one pick in the draft. I don't know if anybody. Yes, Marv. I owe pie. Oh, you do? Yukon. Arizona. Okay. You know, I think we have a way on the website that we could actually start tracking. Yeah, I'm gonna investigate this a little bit. I think that we actually have a way to track these. Mike in South Bend. Hi, Mike. What's on your mind today? A little bit earlier, you had talked.
C
About that the NCAA is waiting for Congress to do something for them.
A
Yeah. Is that like the blind leading the blind?
C
More dysfunctional than the NCAA is US Congress.
A
All right, thank you, Mike. I can only tell you what I've been told. That college football, it's one of those where you go, what happened? You know, it's like you wake up after a long night of drinking and you kind of survey the situation. You're like, what happened here? It feels like that's college football. What happened here. Now you need somebody to clean it up. You need a fixer to come in.
B
Yeah, Paul, I can remember we came in the day After Manziel was on the COVID of time magazine. Maybe 2012, time to pay college athletes. And we were discussing, we're like it's going to be at least five or six more years or seven. And we thought it'd be like some type of minimum wage to perform in your sport. We really did. I remember that show. And then it went from zero to a thousand. Zero to millions.
A
Yeah, yeah. And there's no end in sight because. But, but all you need is a couple of smart people to get together and say, how about we save college football from itself? Jeff in San Antonio. Good morning Jeff, what's on your mind?
C
Good morning dp. Thanks for the call, buddy. Yeah, sorry to go way off course today, but you guys were talking about my Raiders last couple days and I wasn't able to get in. So I just want to get in real.
A
Okay.
C
You and Orlovsky, you and Orlofsky saying it could be like a three, four years before they turn it around. But we have plenty of evidence, you know, Texans, Broncos, Patriots, commanders where they can turn it around in a couple years. You know, Raiders have a chance to get a franchise qb, a nice young offensive minded coach. We got Tom Brady in the room, plenty of money in free agency, but I think there's some hope.
A
You got to have a good organization. I don't know if Tom Brady can be, make an impact as an owner. I, I have no idea. John Elway didn't. In Denver you got to get your coach and these teams that you're mentioning got their coaches and they got their quarterback. You, you need an offensive line. You have the worst offensive line in football. That's not easy to just go. We're gonna have a quick rebuild here. By the way, there are 136 head coaches in FBS football as of this morning. The average. Stay. Go ahead, Paulie, I'll let you start. The average tenure of all 136 FBS head coaches.
B
3.6 years.
A
Marvin 2.8 years. Todd, 2.4 years. Seaton, 4 years. 3.13. On the move or looking to be on the move? Is that because they're leaving or getting fired? Well, could be both. Ryan Fitzpatrick will join us coming up. You know he went to Harvard. Jesse Palmer will join us as well. Hour two on the way. The new year brings new health goals and wealth goals.
