You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome to the program. It's hour one on hey, Dan and the Dan and Stan Patrick Show. Bad football, bad uniforms. Dolphins hold off the Jets. Big news. Tyree Kill, his season is done. Dislocated his knees, got torn ligaments as well. Broncos embarrassed the Bengals 28 to 3. The Bengals, they had more penalties than first downs last night. And I will say it once again. You don't want to waste a season, and that's what you're going to do. You lose Joe Burrow, you can't replace him. But can you get a reasonable facsimile? Can you get somebody who is a starting quarterback, and that is Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson? If not, you've already punted on the season and you saw that last night. That was not football. It felt like there was one NFL team on the field and then there was a college football team. This was really it was ugly. And even Troy Aikman was voicing his displeasure with watching bad football. The jets are just dumb. You know, I'm watching the game. You can't get to the line of scrimmage on time. False starts. They could easily be 2 and 2. They could be. Now they're oh and 4. They don't feel oh and 4. And the dolphins, you get a win, but you lose Tyree Kill. And that's one of those it's not just a season that you lose him. Now you start to think about a bigger picture here for Tyreek Hill, that kind of injury coming back from those injuries. Even if he does this, doesn't feel like it's a one year that he'll be out. So the Dolphins hold off the jets and they win it. Broncos get the win. It's hard to assess the Broncos when you play in a game like that because the Bengals are just bad. It it looked like they were disinterested. It's hard to, you know, you would think you Go, okay, it's week four. Like, okay, we'd be playing the NFL. We're in prime time. Let's go out there and play. And it just felt like, yeah, okay, we'll go through the motions here. And Jamar Chase is not a happy camper. He confronted his head coach, but then his head coach was like, that's why I love Jamar. You know, he, he cares. He's fire. He's, you know, all this stuff. I'm like, no, no. He's actually really, really angry here. How are you going to solve that? And Jake Browning was vanilla, generic, but it's not all on him. I mean, that was, you know, all three phases that the Bengals just not a good football team. And, you know, when you start to think about the numbers here, in the previous nine years, the Bengals have had fewer than 175 yards of offense. Two times in nine years. They've done so three times in the last four games. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. Merchandise is open for business. And the popular T shirt that was brought about, created by Todd Fritz, the passhole. It's going very well on danpatrick.com and tomorrow's the last day you can get it, so the window is open only for a couple of days. With that T shirt, go to danpatrick.com first hour. Brought to you by Mako. They can help your car. You don't need to get a new car, just a fresh start. Dense, faded paint. They've got you covered, literally, from the free estimates. And you get a national warranty. Oh, better get Mako. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, download the app if you haven't done so. If you'd like to watch the program. Tigers, guardians, Padres, Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, Reds, Dodgers. Harold Reynolds from Major League Baseball Network will join us a little bit later on. And our good buddy Ross Tucker, CBS Sports and Westwood 1-877-3-DP Show Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. And Seaton, would you do the honors for a poll question for hour one?
Seaton
The jets are better than their record or who we thought they were.
Dan Patrick
I think they're both. I think they're better than their record, but they're who I thought they'd be. Aaron Glenn, you know, brings in culture. He's a former player and trying to bring in that Dan Campbell culture. And it's going to take a while, but you gotta get rid of the stupid penalties. You may not be as good as the opposition, but don't beat yourself. And I think there were three penalties in a span of four plays. And I go, if you can't get out of the huddle and get to the line of scrimmage on time, how about you move your huddle two yards closer to the line of scrimmage so.
Paulie
You'Re eight yards back.
Dan Patrick
Like, what are you doing? And once again, I'm Justin Fields apologist. I think he has talent. I think he's been bounced around with coaches and coordinators. I think he can be dangerous. I think he can be maybe Lamar Jackson light. You know, he can run the ball. I think he's a decent passer. Maybe he, with the right coaching can become a good passer. They got one. They got one receiver. They got Garrett Wilson. That's it. Now, he's great, but other than that, I mean, Breeze hall can run the football sauce. Gardner thinks that he's being singled out, that he doesn't get the calls that he should. But the jets should be a little more formidable and they could have won that game last night. It's not like the Dolphins were dominating.
Seaton
Yeah, Seaton, they so far, The jets, week one, they lost 3432 to Pittsburgh. The week two was 30 to 10 Buffalo. All right, but then 29, 27 to Tampa and now 27, 21 to Miami. I mean, those are all very close games for the most part.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, you know what's going to happen here? The jets right now have the second pick of the draft. They'll be a top three draft pick. They'll draft a quarterback and start this thing all over again because they have no money really invested in fields. They could easily move on from them. And they. The cycle of the jets going with a young quarterback will start again next year.
Dan Patrick
What other poll questions do you have, Sutton?
Seaton
Let's see. We got a couple here from the tow. We have a couple of poll questions that are all sort of in the similar vein, but it's not even October. Which NFL team has already mostly done Bengals, Jets, Saints, Titans, Might as well. This, this is a little bit of a kick them while they're down poll question. Because then we also have from Paul, which team feels like the worst in the NFL so far? Bengals, Browns, Jets, Saints, Titans, basically all the same group.
Dan Patrick
I would say the Titans, they just feel like they're just lost. It's like, you know, maybe we'll regroup next year, but they're going to be one of those teams that has a couple of wins where you go, damn, okay, where was this all year? It feels like, like Carolina was like that last year where it was like, man, they're going toe to toe with the Chiefs. Where's that been? It's weird how it clicks sometimes and you don't know when it. It's called being in the zone. Baseball players talk about being in the zone. It's called getting blue where you're hitting everything like everything's great. You can't or you know, Steph Curry shooting and can't miss. It's called being in the zone and teams get in that and then they don't know how they got in and they don't know why they got out. But that's going to happen. The jets are probably going to have a couple of those games where you go, where's this bent? Maybe the Bengals, they put it together for a couple of games and you go, okay. That's why they kept Jake Browning and didn't trade for Russell Wilson Jr. The third. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
Well, in the Titans case it's going to be a lot of good losses like oh you know what, we played the Colts really well, almost like the Panthers last year. They played the Chiefs really well. They didn't win but you'll take it as a win if you're that bad.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Saints are bad, but it doesn't. They don't feel as in an inept as the Titans. Do you know the Brown situation? Keep an eye on this because Dylan Gabriel is going to get the start at some point really soon. Now do you start him overseas in London against the Vikings defense? Now I would say no. But then it's the Browns Jackson Dart started at home against the Chargers. That's different. But Dylan Gabriel, he's going to get the start at some point here real soon. And then I wonder is Joe Flacco going to stay on the roster? It feels like he needs to be there. You have to have a grown up in the room with the young quarterbacks there. But he would be a guy that I would look at maybe joining another team. If you could get Flacco, bring him over to Cincinnati. But I think Dylan Gabriel is going to get to start soon. And then Shador Sanders, does he get to come on down and try his luck there? 8773 DP Show Email address dp@danpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Once again, a lot of baseball coming up this afternoon and tonight we'll recap what happened last night and Tyree Kill not only the dislocation but also the knee ligaments. Adam Schefter reporting that this morning that it's more than just a dislocation. Any other poll questions that you're considering there, Seaton?
Seaton
Well, we got one. Sort of a negative one here from Todd. MLB wild card round, question mark. Let's go. I'll glance at it. Have it on in the background, or I'll wait for the divisional round. Thanks.
Dan Patrick
No, I think these are great matchups. Tigers, guardians.
Seaton
Todd doesn't think so. Sorry.
Marvin
No, I didn't make my vote. I'm throwing that out as choices for anybody. For me, I'll. I'm not going to be watching every inning of every game.
Dan Patrick
What is. What is your vote?
Marvin
My vote would be I will be taking periodic peaks in the background as.
Dan Patrick
Opposed to let's go. Starting today.
Marvin
Wildcard. I'm just. I'm being honest. And I love baseball. I loved it more in the 70s.
Dan Patrick
And 80s, but I don't think anybody says, let's go.
Marvin
Tom Brady says, let's go.
Dan Patrick
Like, do you walk in and turn on the TV and go, let's go?
Seaton
I'm a big let's go guy.
Marvin
Got to admit, for Bronco games, everything else is, no, let's go. But I'll definitely have it on. But I'm not going to sit there watching every.
Dan Patrick
But if the Astros were in it.
Marvin
Even the Astros, you know, because we know I'm a fake fan. And you are cheated. They didn't cheat. I was more of an Astro fan in the 80s.
Dan Patrick
Tigers, guardians. That's entertaining. Big collapse by the Tigers. Padres at the Cubs, 1984. Let's go.
Paulie
Oh, God, no.
Dan Patrick
Dan, I can't believe you said that. Red Sox, Yankees. Yeah. And then Reds at the Dodgers, right? Yeah. I think it'll be fun. I'm excited about. Let's go. Yeah. Isn't it hard to flip the switch, though, a little bit?
Marvin
Like, we, none of us, I don't think, watch that much baseball on a regular basis now, especially with the NFL and college football and basketball and hockey right around the corner. Can you flip the switch room? I took a peek here and there at, you know, the fifth inning of some random.
Dan Patrick
You knew that with college basketball.
Marvin
College basketball. I watched a good amount of college basketball.
Dan Patrick
You wait till March.
Marvin
I watched a lot more for March Madness, for sure.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. NBA.
Marvin
That's. Yeah. That's a lot more exciting than the playoffs.
Dan Patrick
Oh, it is. It is more exciting.
Marvin
That's what most people say.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Seaton
The playoffs. To be fair, though, the NBA playoffs are almost Four months long. So it is like a whole season in and of itself that you can skip the first one and be like, I'll watch the second season.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. It starts and I go, let's go. Yeah, Paul. Yeah.
Paulie
Baseball has instant urgency. They also schedule it so you could watch all four games back to back, and it's all on national tv. It's very easy to consume during the year. You watch your team during the day or during the night, and then you get highlights from the other team.
Dan Patrick
It's.
Paulie
It's completely different. The playoffs.
Dan Patrick
By the way, I did mention the uniforms. Broncos, stop trying so hard, okay? You. You have iconic uniforms. You don't need to reinvent them. I know. It's merchandise. Dolphins. That's a bad look. It's a bad look from the TV perspective, and that might be a uniform that looks a lot better in person. The Bengals. When you're a bad team, your uniforms look bad. And the Jets, I still. I mean, it's the same uniform. I love the. The jets green, but it's kind of an uninspiring uniform. Maybe it's classic when you win. Like, they have a classic looking uniform. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
The Broncos lost me as soon as I saw them wear blue uniforms.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. What are we doing? You guys were crush.
Marvin
Crush.
Dan Patrick
Come on. Yes, Todd.
Marvin
And you're trying to sell on social media. It's Midnight Blue week. They called it Midnight Blue.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah.
Marvin
Now I'm gonna buy the jersey.
Dan Patrick
I watched that channel, I think, growing up.
Marvin
Midnight Blue.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
That was fabulous.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yes. Seaton. Yeah.
Paulie
And the Broncos, they just relaunched their uniforms last year, so they'll stick for a few years because no one wants to admit a mistake.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Had a interesting back and forth with Marvin this morning. We were discussing. Marvin claimed that he was tall, and I said that he wasn't. And so we had a little back and forth there. We're gonna have to get the definition of. Now, to me, tall is six two. Maybe. Maybe six one. But I'm going to say six two means you're tall. In my family, in my world growing up, six, two. Okay. You're tall. Tall. Drink of water. Marvin tried to shoehorn. Yeah. If you're 6ft tall, you're tall. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
But I've never. No one's ever called me short.
Dan Patrick
But have they called you tall? Yes. Okay, well, you're around short people.
Marvin
This is how it started. We were talking about a time where I was in New York and somebody called me a tall piece of chocolate.
Paulie
I'm Sorry about that. Marvin.
Dan Patrick
Yes, I said to Paulie, stop. Yes. Wrong. Okay, but you're. You're not a tall piece of chocolate. You're not tall.
Marvin
But I'm not short, though.
Dan Patrick
But you're not tall. You're an average height guy. How tall are you?
Marvin
Yeah, he's not six feet tall on the dot.
Dan Patrick
All right, then you're at. You're a little above average. That doesn't make you tall. 5.
Marvin
If I was 5 9.
Dan Patrick
I'm not tall. Yes.
Seaton
So the average height of the. Of a male in the United States is 5, 9. That's the average height.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
Marvin is significantly taller than that.
Dan Patrick
That just means he's a little above average. Doesn't mean he's tall.
Seaton
He's significantly above average. But he's three inches.
Dan Patrick
But he's not tall.
Seaton
He is compared to someone who's five, nine. No, but I'm someone who is slightly taller than six. Two can look down at him and be like, actually, you're not that tall. But to pretty much everybody else, he is tall. Marvin, you're being a heist right now.
Dan Patrick
Marvin. I'm tall. You're not.
Marvin
You were tall.
Dan Patrick
I'm. I'm still taller than you. I'm still taller than you. Yes.
Paulie
Paulie, I had the definition of tall in the dictionary of great or more than average height.
Dan Patrick
Who considers Marvin tall in this room? Todd does.
Marvin
Yeah, because I'm like 5 10, maybe 510 and a half if I have the right shoes on. So six feet. I think once you hit six zero, you're.
Dan Patrick
You're tall.
Marvin
You're ab. Average height.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
I wouldn't say Marvin's tall. I would say he's a good height, though. Yeah, it's pretty. It's close to being tall. Like, Like.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Six, three and above. That's where it's like, dang, that dude's tall. But Marvin's a good height.
Dan Patrick
Mark McLovin was tall.
Seaton
McLovin was tall.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Okay. McLovin was tall.
Marvin
But I'm not short, though.
Dan Patrick
But you're not tall. You're above average. Piece of chocolate. Respectfully. Yeah, of course.
Marvin
You're sure? I'm sure. All right.
Dan Patrick
Okay. You're tort. You know, Hurt my feelings about it. I know. But, you know, people try to glom on to six feet and, you know.
Seaton
Sorry. Not everybody could be six feet.
Dan Patrick
I'm sorry.
Seaton
Not everybody can be that tall. Sorry.
Dan Patrick
I'm sorry. Okay. You can't be tall. I'm sorry. All right.
Marvin
It's all right.
Dan Patrick
Okay. But I just want to set you straight. I'm not saying you're short. I'm just saying you're not really in the fraternity here. The tall fraternity. All right.
Marvin
You said it like you were Shaq.
Dan Patrick
I'm. I'm Victor Wembanyama.
Seaton
It's kind of. It's kind of like how gigantic my hands are right now. That's how tall Dan is.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Are Seaton's hands big, or am I tall?
Marvin
Scene's hands are enormous.
Dan Patrick
These mitts. Look at these mitts compared to you.
Marvin
Look at those bear claws.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. Some of the biggest hands that I've ever seen.
Seaton
That's right.
Dan Patrick
Yep, that's right.
Marvin
Poll question. Bigger moment for Seaton. Birth of his son.
Seaton
Oh, not even big. My hands being bigger than yours.
Dan Patrick
Bigger.
Seaton
Not even close.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that's the one that made him.
Seaton

Dan Patrick
Don'T know why I was singing this this morning.
Marvin
That's awesome. That's why you were singing.
Dan Patrick
I definitely pick a song or a song picks me and then I just carry it and all of a sudden I'm singing it and the next thing I know somebody else is singing it and I'll be like, why are you singing that? It's like, because you were. I'll go, oh yeah.
Seaton
I just love the idea that they were recording this song and singing Nobody's gonna break my stride. Nobody's. And they're like, I don't know if that's it. Let's try it again. How about a Break up my Stride? Nobody's got a Break up my stride. Yes, that's the one. Let's go with that.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Marvin
Todd, did someone poke at you or bother you or annoy you recently? That's the song I usually end up singing. If I just had a confrontation with somebody, I was like, I'll sing it in my head. Like, nothing's gonna break my stride. Like someone, like try to bother you about something? No, it just came into your head just out of the blue. Did you hear it in the background on the radio driving in and it.
Dan Patrick
Just kind of stuck with you? I don't know.
Marvin
Because that, to me, that's a strong theme kind of song.
Dan Patrick
Why is there an interrogation here?
Marvin
No, it's not a terrible. I'm just.
Dan Patrick
Nothing's gonna break in my stride.
Marvin
I've sung that song soon after having some kind of incident where like, yeah, I'm just gonna break my stride.
Dan Patrick
That's You. Like, that's. But that's your world.
Seaton
Why is this getting contentious? Why are you guys arguing right now.
Dan Patrick
About why You're John's interrogating, you know.
Marvin
Like Michael Jordan would create things that didn't happen, though Kobe like to get pissed off and like, that guy said something about me, and he never did. Just to get fired up sometimes, you know, put that song in your head. It's like, you know, I'm gonna prove everybody wrong. Or you think you're upsetting me. You're not. Ain't nothing gonna break them up.
Dan Patrick
It's very. It's just a very harmless, you know, hey, I'm singing this. I don't know why I'm singing this. It might have been on the blend, you know, or yacht rock or something.
Marvin
Perhaps I'm overthinking this.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you are, Todd. And that's normal. By the way, you can pick up the passhole T shirt. Oh, no.
Seaton
That stands for passive aggressive holes.
Marvin
That was very passive. That was aggressive aggressive. You just did.
Dan Patrick
How many people are aggressively passive? You know, we're always passive aggressive. It's available@danpatrick.com. tomorrow's the last day to get this really popular T shirt here.
Marvin
That was like, speaking of pass holes, after I spoke. And then you just dropped that.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. All right, our one poll question. What are we going to go with here?
Seaton
Yeah, I put two of them up there right now. The two that we sort of just hit on air.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
The jets are who we thought they were or better than their record. You want to guess?
Dan Patrick
I'm going to say who we thought they were.
Seaton
The jets are 83% who we thought they were.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
I think that's a lie. And it's not even October. But which NFL team is already most done? Bengals, Jets, Saints, Titans. Congratulations, Titans. You have about 35% of that vote, followed by the Bengals at 30.
Marvin
Yeah, nice. 26. Nothing lost to Houston.
Dan Patrick
All right. To a. Tonga Violoa talked to the media after the win and talked about the loss of Tyreek Hill. I think it was one of those where collectively we knew, you know, we needed to step up in general, regardless.
Seaton
Of who's in, you know, we. We feel as if the next. Next man up and we shouldn't lack.
Dan Patrick
The way we play, the style of our play. We shouldn't lack any of that. So that was.
Paulie
That was sort of the mantra or.
Dan Patrick
The mindset going into that. After Tyreek got hurt and when he got hurt and they're taking him off in the cart and I'm going. He was, like, fired up. I don't know if he's trying to fire up the Crowd or he was excited that he didn't have to play for the Dolphins for a while. They were. The element of shock, you know, where you're. Sometimes it takes over if you've ever had an injury and the injury takes over your body and sometimes, you know, gives you energy or shocks you. And that was just a weird reaction when he was being carted off. And I, you know, I. One of my favorite players to watch. It feels like he's open every single play. But you have to look at the business side of this now. He was a prime trade target because he had one more year on his contract. And once they were going to be out of the playoffs, then, you know, I felt that they were going to try to trade Tyreek Hill. He's got one year left, but the Dolphins can get out of that contract after this season. Yes.
Paulie
Paul Tyreek, like you said, has one more year and it's an expensive year. It's the most expensive year of his contract. He's due to make $36 million next year and the Dolphins can get out of it with 25 million of dead cap hit.
Seaton
That was likely never going to happen anyway though, right?
Dan Patrick
If they're good, they're keeping him, I'm guessing.
Seaton
Or even if they. Even if they were good and they wanted to keep them, they're going to renegotiate that into a different deal anyway. Right.
Dan Patrick
I'm sure going into a, you know, a walk year that he would want to have some security there. Yeah, yeah. I would say this next season he would have said, hey, let's add a couple more years here, but doesn't feel like that's going to happen. There was, we talked a little bit about Penn State losing another big game, losing a big game at home. And Marvin said that James Franklin, Penn State's head coach, was asked about, you know, not winning these big games. So let's get the question here and then we're going to try to guess what James Franklin said about this question.
Paulie
After everything that's happened versus ranked teams, how do you personally maintain your belief?
Dan Patrick
Okay, Todd, what do you think? James Franklin said.
Marvin
It'S tough to win a game these days and, you know, we're just going to keep doing our best and keep pushing forward and, you know, we can't worry and hang our hat on every. Every win or loss.
Dan Patrick
Okay. There's a lot of holes in that answer that they would follow up and say, well, why can't you win these games?
Marvin
Bring it on. I'm ready for it.
Dan Patrick
You're playing at home. You're ranked team. You're a higher ranked team. That team's, you know, traveling from west coast to east coast.
Marvin
Well, we got to win every game, 70 to nothing.
Dan Patrick
No, you just have to win the game one to nothing, two to nothing.
Marvin
We'll be. We'll be just fine. We'll get them. We'll get it together.
Dan Patrick
All right? Seaton, play the question.
Paulie
Marvin, after everything that's happened versus ranked teams, how do you personally maintain your belief?
Seaton
Seaton, at the end of the day, belief is all that we have. Belief in yourself, belief in your players, belief in this school. My belief will never waver.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
Results might not be what we want, but my belief will never waver.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. All right, Marvin.
Marvin
I'm taking responsibility. We just got to keep fighting.
Paulie
Okay, Paulie, I have no doubt we're going to get there someday. No doubt.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Marvin
Todd, Russ Wilson just called. He said it's all about attitude and gratitude.
Dan Patrick
We'll figure it out. Thank you, Todd. Yeah, I'm thinking that you. You say the positive that you got to still spin this. We get the opportunity to play in these big games. You know, I have to get better. You know, we're still searching here. We have a lot of talent. I love this fan base. We play in a great place. We have to continue to set our standards high. We're an elite football team. We have to play that way. I have to coach that way. Here is James Franklin's answer. I kind of look at the entire picture. I get that narrative, and it's really not a narrative. It's factual. It's the facts. But I try to look at the entire picture and what we've been able to do here. But at the end of the day, we got to find a way to win those games. I. I totally get it, and I take ownership and I take responsibility. At the end of the day, I wanted that for those kids in that locker room. Couple of, you know, end of the day. Yes.
Marvin
Todd, would it be rude if someone followed up with, do you feel like you're on the hot seat if this continues in Happy Valley?
Dan Patrick
I think that's a tough question to ask. I would phrase it, if you're going to do that, I would say, do you think you should be on the hot seat? But I would bring up if it depends on, you know, what your relationship is with him. And he might have been on the show once before, maybe twice, but, you know, they were in the playoffs if. If it's a 12 team playoff and I look back on his tenure at Penn State. I think they're in the playoffs just about every year. It's just. I think we all come to the same conclusion. They're great, except for when they have to be great. They're. They're just not threatening. Now, they hung in there with Oregon, but Oregon's coming from the west coast, you know, a couple of time zones away, and, you know, you're white out game days there. Everything's great. And you're down 17 to 3. Yes.
Marvin
Todd, what would you say to those coach that say it's national championship or bust? We're getting kind of sick of this routine the last couple years. How deep into the playoffs do you guys need to go for us to be considered a successful season?
Dan Patrick
Well, that's a couple of questions there. Yeah. Yeah. But ask one.
Marvin
How far do the Nittany Lions have to go this year for you to consider this to be a successful season short of a national title?
Dan Patrick
Well, I believe in winning championships, and I'm not going to settle. Winning one game or two games in the playoffs is not going to satisfy me, and I hope it doesn't satisfy our fan base. I want to win a championship. Penn State's won championships before, and that's my goal.
Marvin
Thank you, coach.
Dan Patrick
All right. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, coach. Yes, Paul.
Paulie
And unlike Dabo Sweeney, he can't go. Scoreboard. James Franklin can't go. I've been there before. We've won it before multiple times. Like Dabo. It's been a while, but he could still say we've got national championships, Plural.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah.
Marvin
Marvin, do you think James Franklin would really be on the hot seat if he didn't come to Penn State after the whole Jerry Sandusky scandal?
Dan Patrick
Well, as I said yesterday, there's certain programs that wouldn't put up with this. I mean, there have been coaches who've been fired because of their record. Ohio State in, Michigan fired because of that. Alabama wouldn't accept this. Georgia wouldn't accept this. Ohio State, Michigan would not accept these. These results. They just wouldn't. And yes. Did James Franklin get a cushion there, A softer landing, because what the landscape was. Yes. But he's done a good job recruiting. It just you see them in the top 10 or top 5, I think we all kind of go, you know, let me. Let me wait and see that. My approach to them is similar to what I've said before about Lamar Jackson. You can have a great regular season. It doesn't matter. I want to see what you do in the postseason. Josh Allen, I want to see can you get to a Super Bowl? Like that's where you graduated to. And it's a compliment to you. You're great now. Be great on the biggest stage. Be great when you need to be great. And Penn State hasn't been and Lamar hasn't been. I can't blame Josh Allen, certainly last year. Yeah, Paul.
Paulie
And this probably is the biggest year for Penn State expectations. The Saquon Barkley year. They had a good quarterback, McSorley, but if you look at they got a quarterback who's a veteran. Michigan's down a little bit. Ohio State's got a young new quarterback. This seems like an opportunity. That's why the Penn State fans like this should be our year. And it still could be.
Dan Patrick
They've.
Paulie
They're right there. They finished fourth in the rankings at the end of the season last year.
Dan Patrick
David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. Sunday night when Micah returned to Dallas, do you think when Jerry and Micah met, Jerry extends his hand out to shake his hand and Mike is like, hold on, let me talk to my agent before I shake your hand. Thank you. All right, David. David's doing a roast. You know, when he calls in, it's very quick, very quick. Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris. Hey, thanks, Dan. Hey, I just want to say after last night's Bangle game, seems like everybody's echoing what you were saying for the last couple weeks. They need to get Russell Wilson or Cousins. And I'm wondering if they are doing what you're saying, maybe putting on the season. You know, a team like the Cowboys, they got two first round picks next year. If they throw in that maybe another pick and a defensive lineman. If the Bengals would go for trading trade Trey Hendrickson, look towards next year. Now they got three first round picks. One's going to be really high, a ton of cap room. And for the Cowboys, their offense looks great even without CD Lamb. Now you get some pressure on the quarterback, takes pressure off of the secondary and maybe salvage the season or maybe even make the playoffs. Yeah, I bet. I don't. You know, it's the Bengals and I don't know if they're just going to ride this out and they'll be fine with that. But Jamar Chase had one of those incredible, I think he had 127 catches last year, 1700 yards. And now all of a sudden you're looking at your numbers and they're not going to get much better unless you go out and try to bring somebody in. And granted you might be bringing in Russ or Kirk D. Cousins and you'd say you have the job until Joe comes back. And maybe it's the end of the year. I just, I can't see punting on a season where you're four games in. You got 13 more to go. In a division that's winnable, The Bengals are 2 and 2. Like they're not oh and 4 and I. That's where you have to factor in. Do the math and go. Pittsburgh is going to be a winning team. I don't think they're formidable. They're not scaring me. Baltimore, they got, they got some issues here. I mean, by default Pittsburgh can win this division. Then you got the Browns who might already be turning to a rookie quarterback. The Bengals got talent. Like there's no reason why they played so like less inspiring last night. You still have a ton of talent there, is it? Just based on one player is. If that's the case, Joe Burrow should be the MVP by default. And the winner of this year's MVP is Joe Burrow. Wait, he didn't really play that much. Yeah, but did you see the Bengals without him? All right, we'll take a break. More phone calls coming up and our play of the day after this. Hey, I was calling in about the Cincinnati Bengals. First time, long time. Okay. Yeah. With Jake Brownlee starting, it's a chance they can get the first overall pick. Would you trade Chase at the trade deadline? Maybe he can get two. First in the off season, you might betray Joe Barrow for, I don't know, what, three first round picks and then you can start building that offensive line. No, I'm not. I'm not. How about we just get lineman? I. I can't get rid of Jamar Chase. There's really only one other receiver that you would trade for Jamar Chase. That's Justin Jefferson. And even then I wouldn't make the trade. I mean, he's, he's one of maybe two or three receivers that are different than everybody else and. No, I, I'm not going to do that. A.J. brown had. He declined to talk to reporters. He's the Eagles wide receiver. He said that he's not going to talk to reporters post game. This is after the Eagles won their game, he said. And he posted a quote from the Bible. If you're not welcome, not listened to. Quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way. Okay. He's had 14 catches so far this season and a touchdown on 28 targets. Here's the. Well, there's a lot of things wrong with this. He's on an undefeated team. You won a Super Bowl. You're favored to go back to the super bowl, and you're on a team that doesn't throw the ball very often. I think the Bengals had over 200 more pass attempts than the Eagles did last year. You got Jalen Hurts, who only throws, really, when necessary. I don't think it's. We lead with passing. You got a lot of weapons there. You're not going to get a lot of targets. You're not going to be Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson. That ain't happening. But. Okay, let me read this again. If you're not welcomed, you're not listened to. Quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way. Well, you've already made a scene. You posted it, you made a scene, and then you don't want to talk about it. Make up your mind. You want to be quiet or you. You're going to make a scene. Yeah, See, I think there's a difference.
Seaton
Between I want to say it and I want to talk, and I. I want to talk about it. I might want to say something, but I want to have a conversation with you about what I just said.
Dan Patrick
You know, but let me understand what the problem is here. Are they not talking to you? They're not listening to you? Who said you're not welcomed? What does the quote mean? Like, these are just simple questions that if he says, hey, this has something to do with something else in life. Okay. Hey, this is how I feel with the offense here. Okay? What do you. What do you. You're undefeated and you're defending super bowl champs. What do you suggest Nick Sirianni does is Jalen hurts, not targeting. Like I would. I would shoot this full of holes here. Don't want to make a scene. I don't want to talk about it. But you're making a scene. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, like you said, The Eagles had 448 pass attempts last year. That was last in the NFL. Their percentage was great, but there's just no targets to go around. It's like playing for Oklahoma football or Nebraska back in the 80s.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
Remember, like, Keith Jackson would catch 15 balls.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. 12 for touchdowns.
Paulie
But you're. You're in the Orange bowl and you're 13, and, oh, you have to accept it by being an Eagle. There's not. There's nothing you could do about it. What if they give extra targets to him? That means you're changing the offense. That's working fantastically.
Dan Patrick
Quite.
Paulie
It's not. You Know, putting out huge numbers are exciting.
Dan Patrick
Well, no. If he's open and they're not throwing it to him. Okay, that's different. But now you're saying, hey, I throw it to me. Well, let's look. Are you open? No. Kinda. Every receiver thinks he's open. I was just kind of surprised that. What are you saying here? You're undefeated, but you're not happy? Quietly withdraw and don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way. On your way where? Where are you going? This is where you get a championship and then you start thinking about you. This happens a lot. Got my title, I got my ring, I got my chip. Now I want my touches. Yes. Yes, Todd. So.
Marvin
And why can't you just talk in the locker room or call, you know, talk to the coaches or the offensive coordinator?
Dan Patrick
What?
Marvin
Why would you. What would be the benefit of doing that and not come across as a whining person or spoiled brat or whatever you want to call it? There's nothing good that's going to come out of putting that on social media.
Dan Patrick
Well, I think he gave great thought to the Bible quote. I just don't think he gave great thought to how people would react to this.
Marvin
None of us are going to help him get the ball more. We can't change the. What their game plan is because he's complaining on social media about it, that we're not the people that can do anything for him.
Dan Patrick
I mean, I'd put the Bible quote, maybe on Nick Sirianni's windshield, then just say, you know, hey, read this and let's talk about this. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, you're Sirianni. You find Leviticus. Thou shall not complain about targets. And put that. It's in there somewhere.
Dan Patrick
Leviticus. Leviticus.
Paulie
Leviticus. I was an altar boy.
Dan Patrick
Oh, you were deep cut. Oh, yeah.
Paulie

Dan Patrick
Yeah. I didn't. I. I wasn't gonna do it.

Dan Patrick

Paulie

Dan Patrick
I think it was the incense. You know, those high masses and the incense always made me nauseous.
Paulie

Seaton
Yeah, I went. Hey, went to Catholic school. You know, it doesn't, doesn't turn off when you're, you know, 12.

Date: September 30, 2025
Podcast Network: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
In this lively hour, Dan Patrick and the team react to major NFL storylines—most notably, the season-ending injury to Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, the Bengals’ embarrassing loss to the Broncos, and whether teams like the Jets, Bengals, Titans, and Saints have already “punted” on their seasons. The hosts also take a lighter look at topics like what constitutes being “tall,” discuss MLB’s wild card matchups, and riff on uniform aesthetics. The show features trademark banter, humorous tangents, and classic sports radio debate.
Dan Patrick (on Tyreek Hill):
“Even if he does [return], doesn’t feel like it’s a one-year thing… You have to look at the business side now.” (04:27, 29:01)
Dan Patrick (on the Bengals):
“It felt like there was one NFL team on the field and then there was a college football team. That was not football.” (04:10)
Tua Tagovailoa (on Tyreek Hill’s absence):
“We feel as if the next man up and we shouldn’t lack the way we play, the style of our play. We shouldn’t lack any of that.” (28:50)
Dan Patrick (on the Jets):
“If you can’t get out of the huddle and get to the line of scrimmage on time, how about you move your huddle two yards closer?” (08:33)
Poll Results (Seaton):
“83% who we thought they were.” (28:12, re: the Jets)
Dan Patrick (on Marvin's height):
"You’re not tall. You’re above average, piece of chocolate. Respectfully." (19:14)
Dan Patrick (on A.J. Brown's cryptic Bible post):
“You’ve already made a scene. You posted it, you made a scene, and then you don’t want to talk about it. Make up your mind.” (47:24)
This episode delivers the quintessential Dan Patrick Show experience: incisive NFL commentary with the big news of Tyreek Hill’s injury, a breakdown of which teams have already lost hope for the season, and a glimpse into how modern athletes handle media drama. Dan and the team balance insightful sports analysis with playful banter—debating everything from NFL uniforms to what constitutes being tall, and swapping personal altar boy tales. Whether poking fun at coachspeak or dissecting why fans can’t “flip the switch” on MLB playoffs, this hour is fast-paced, thoughtful, and always entertaining.
