You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Oh, it's great to be back on this Monday. The gang's here, ready to go, morale is high, and we'll talk about everything that happened not only this weekend, but the week that we were on vacation. Al Michaels, hall of Famer, will join us. Do you believe in Michaels? Yes, how about that?
Todd Fritz
I like that.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Todd was working on headlines right after the Olympic gold medal was handed out and even before that. And he was focusing, of course, on Jack Hughes. And you came up with a few of them. I had one Do Do Hughes believe in miracles?
Todd Fritz
Then we learned he had a bar mitzvah. So jubilation for Jack hughes. That was fun.

Todd Fritz
Now Jack Hughes puts it around the car. United States with numbers walked across it comes. Jack Hughes wins it. The golden goal for the United States. For the first time since the 1980 miracle, the United States takes the gold.
Dan Patrick
Kenny Albert with the call did a wonderful job. Mike Tirico hosting. It was just a gold medal performance all around yesterday. And it was at this time 24 hours ago, Canada and the United States, second period tied at 1:1. And if you look at the totality of this, if you were actually judging this like it was figure skating, then you would go, oh, Canada, day one. But we don't judge it that way. We judge it with the bottom line of goals. And you might say, wait a minute, what's happening in overtime? It was three on three. They do that during the regular season in the NHL because they don't if they're playing so many minutes, so many games, and once you get to overtime, it's basically their version of a three on three shootout. And now do I like it in the Olympics? I did not. This is the, this is for the gold medal. This isn't. Hey, you got another game tomorrow night in Toronto and then, you know, one in New York. This is the Olympic gold medal. But the United States and Canada both had three men on the ice against one another. And the United States ended up winning, of course. Here's John Cooper, the Canadian head coach. Here comes the question. First, how did you see the whole
Todd Fritz
play that led to the four times overtime?
Dan Patrick
You take four players off the ice. Now, hockey is not hockey anymore.
Todd Fritz
There's a reason overtime and shootouts are in play.
Dan Patrick
It's all TV driven and you know, to end game. So there's not, you know, long time.
Todd Fritz
There's a reason it's not in the
Dan Patrick
Stanley cup finals or playoffs because, you know, it gets ended in five, but it's still skilled players out there making skill plays. And the US Team has some skilled players and you know, as do we. And they, they made one more play
Todd Fritz
than we did in overtime.
Dan Patrick
So that's the head coach for Canada, John Cooper. Look, he can be right, but also be critiqued in this situation because they had plenty of chances to win that. Were they the better team? Yeah, they, they probably were the better team, but, and, and maybe they performed better, but the United States performed better when they needed to. And that was at the very end all it takes when you get to that point, anything can happen. And a lot of times it can be something fluky and it didn't feel like anything was really starting to metastasize there for the United States. On that play, you' going okay, okay. Oh. And then it's over. And you know, you start to think back 1980, when, you know, the United States beat the Soviet Union. That wasn't for the gold. And it doesn't seem like it was 46 years ago, by the way, 1980. But those are a bunch of guys who weren't playing in the NHL. I mean, that was their moment. Some guys played in the NHL. But, but these were college kids going against professionals. You know, it's different now. These are professionals against professionals. So does it have the same feel? No, but it still feels pretty good when you're watching and, and how that played out. And then Jack Hughes. Yeah, with teeth missing and a flag around his neck and a gold medal as well. And he talked about scoring the winner.
Karen Kilgariff
This was such an incredible game to grind out. I mean, you're bleeding right through it.
Dan Patrick
Just looking at you right now, can
Karen Kilgariff
you just talk about how difficult this gold medal was to win?
Todd Fritz
Unbelievable game by Hellbuyk. He was our best player tonight by mile. Unbelievable game. Unreal game by our team. That's just a ballsy, gutsy win. That's American hockey right there. That's a great Canadian team, but we're usa. We're so proud to be Americans. Tonight was all for the country.
Dan Patrick
It was. You couldn't script it. In fact, if you tried to script it, somebody would say, all right, let's ease off. The guy loses his teeth. Okay, all right. You know, because he did, you know, nearly cost him his team with a bad penalty there in the third period. But that photo. And that photo is going to live on for the rest of our lives, where you just see him smiling with his teeth cracked and just, you know, it. It. It meant something. You know, this is. This is pride. Now you can talk about Stanley Cup. And Fritz, he even said, hey, what would be more important, winning the Stanley cup or the gold medal? And I. I think it's an interesting question. I'm. I'm, you know, might be one of those where you don't want to say it publicly. Hey, the Stanley cup might be more important than winning a gold medal because that's a team and a city as opposed to a country. But, you know, that might depend on what team, what city, what country we're talking about. Yeah, Seaton.
Seaton
I know in soccer, there's nothing more important than the World Cup. That is the pinnacle. That is like the end. I don't know if the Olympics, you know, the soccer is also in the Olympics. So it's not exactly the same, like an apples to apples comparison World cup to an Olympic medal, but there is something about playing for your country that's. That's obviously a really, really big deal.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And you saw that. You know, just the pride that they had. And you know, Jack Hughes saying it over and over, proud to be an American. Did acknowledge the Canadian team. Canadian team had a lot of talent. They really did. But, you know, you're just kind of hoping that the United States stays close. And then they get the first goal and you go, okay, that sent a message. And really quickly. And then Canada comes back. And then it was going to come down to, is somebody going to get a fluke goal or maybe a fluke save? Because Connor was unbelievable. Like, there's moments where you go, how did that happen? How did he make that save? And this is where they talk about a goalie Standing on his head. You know, for Michael Ruzzioni, you needed Jim Craig as your goaltender and Jack Hughes needed Hella Buck to get into overtime for him to have that. Because those are really the biggest plays. If you don't have a save on. You know, there's like three of them. I mean, Canada had five on three for a while and didn't do anything. And you could see they had more talent out there. But you get to that point where all of a sudden you start to tense up, you miss shots that you would normally make and. And you know this. I remember when the United States beat the Soviet Union and there were some hockey purists that said, hey, if they played 10 times, Soviets are winning the next nine. But they don't play 10 times. That's the point. You know, of all of the great upsets, you know, if Villanova plays Georgetown again in basketball or North Carolina State against Houston, but they don't. They played once and that's all you needed to. And the women's hockey Team usa, now they were favored against Canada and that turned out to be a lot better game than I thought it was going to be. But it was a fun weekend. It was fun to be able to watch it. And it was early morning and this is what the Olympics does. The Olympics will bring in the casual fan or the non fan. And now you're watching moments like this. It's the one thing that all these sports try to chase. Like, how do you get this? It's scarce. And the Olympics still is able to deliver that. And you saw that yesterday on display. Seaton poll question for the first hour of the program is going to be what?
Seaton
Well, we have a lot of options. A bunch from Paul, we have a bunch from Todd. Probably go with one of Todd's Stanley cup versus gold medal. Okay, I think that's a fun one.
Dan Patrick
Well, let's go around the room. Todd, I'll start with you. Gold medal or Stanley Cup?
Todd Fritz
Stanley Cup.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd Fritz
I'd rather have the Stanley Cup.
Dan Patrick
Seaton.
Seaton
You know, I'm trying to weigh. Because you can only win it every four years, which makes it pretty. Probably much less people have a gold medal than have won the Stanley Cup.
Dan Patrick
Right?
Seaton
Yeah, it's more of a rare accomplishment.
Dan Patrick
Yeah,
Seaton
man, it feels like Stanley Cup.
Dan Patrick
I know, I know.
Seaton
I'm probably going to go slightly towards the Stanley Cup.
Dan Patrick
I've seen grown men cry around the Stanley Cup. Jeremy Roenick was crying around the Stanley Cup.
Seaton
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Because. And he said to me when we were doing our broadcast, I'll never. I'll never know that feeling. And it made him cry. One of the toughest guys that you've ever been around. And he was crying around the Stanley Cup. Yes. Todd.
Todd Fritz
But we say it's so uncomfortable. I don't speak for Seaton, but I said it so begrudgingly and uncomfortably, like I'm somehow a bad American. That I'm picking the Stanley cup over the.
Dan Patrick
Okay. It's all right. People dislike you for other things. Not this.
Todd Fritz
That's a long list.
Dan Patrick
Marvin. Stanley cup. Gold medal.
Todd Fritz
The Stanley Cup.
Dan Patrick
Paul.
Paulie
Not even close. The gold medal.
Dan Patrick
Okay. I would say Stanley cup. Certainly. If I'm from Canada. I would say the Stanley Cup. Knowing just how deep that runs, the history of that. All of those names. I'd probably say that it's not that we devalue the gold as much as I elevate the Stanley cup just a little bit higher. Either way, I'd feel pretty good. That's for sure. So the poll question is gold medal or Stanley cup. First hour.
Seaton
Yeah. We put that one up there. We could certainly hit some of Todd's options if you want. Paul's got a few there.
Dan Patrick
What other options does Fritzi have?
Todd Fritz
I had a cute one about showing up to work in a blizzard is one of the following. Pure dedication. Someone give that worker a cookie. Kind of insane and dangerous. But the show must go on. Sports Emmy worthy.
Dan Patrick
Perhaps.
Todd Fritz
Question mark. And the final choice is so not a big deal. Toughen up. What's a couple of feet or snow among friends?
Dan Patrick
Yes. We had a blizzard. We're still in the thick of a blizzard here. But everybody. Most of the backroom guys spent the night. And, you know, when I was driving in, there was nobody on the road. It was like an apocalypse. And which made it easier to drive to work because there was nobody on the road. You'd have a couple of snowplows. But. But that was it. But came in and it was like a slumber party for the back room guys. Todd, you. You stayed at a hotel nearby.
Todd Fritz
I did. I was just a few minutes up the road.
Dan Patrick
Okay. But I'm glad that you made it. And every day's the super bowl.
Todd Fritz
It is.
Dan Patrick
It is. So this. You know, you can't rest on your laurels.
Todd Fritz
San Francisco is in the rear view mirror. Let's go, Milford.
Dan Patrick
We survived the blizzard of, oh, 2026. We did it. All right. We'll take a break. We'll get to your phone calls. Coming up. Eight, seven, seven, three DP show. Yes.
Seaton
It's funny that you say that because just the other day my wife was talking about something and she was just like. That was like what, like 2010 something like what was that like 2010? Something like that.
Dan Patrick
20. Oh, 10.
Seaton
2010, baby.
Dan Patrick
20.
Seaton
You mean 2010.
Dan Patrick
2010.
Seaton
2010. I can fall into that, you know, what's it like? 09010? Something like that.
Dan Patrick
There's certain things you just don't correct your wife on. Yeah, well, they're just, you know, I
Seaton
mean, when you're having a laugh at it, I think it's okay.
Dan Patrick
Oh, as long as there it's a communal laugh.
Seaton
I wasn't. Don't you mean 2010, you idiot? Like, I didn't like bark at it.
Dan Patrick
Are you stupid?
Seaton
I don't know. What was that? 0901. 011 something.

NBA Back from the All Star break. The new All Star game format seemed to be a hit. I mean, the final game wasn't very good, but the other ones leading up to it, I thought it was fun. You know, there was a little bit of competition, seemed to matter a little bit more. And I thought it was interesting that Anthony Edwards said, once I saw Victor Wembanyama playing hard, then I think we decided to play hard. It. It's like everybody was trying to figure out, are you really going to play that hard? Are we just going to go out there and kind of have some fun and play like Luca and Joker do, or we going to really care? And then you saw that they really cared. Yes, Marvin.
Todd Fritz
I was nervous because Anthony Edwards had his earrings in his ear before the game started. And I was like, he's not going to play hard. And once Wemby started blocking everybody's shot. Okay, wait, I don't want to be embarrassed. Like, those guys don't want to be embarrassed. And so they came to play.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I liked it. The slam dunk contest. I see better slam, better dunks. If I go to a playground or a pickup game, it's. I think we've exhausted the slam dunk contest. But it was good that it was on at 5 o' clock local time, you know, get it out of the way. But there's just nothing there. You're. You're trying to.
Todd Fritz
And.
Dan Patrick
And then you have Mac McClung, who is putting out videos to say, if I was in the slam dunk contest, here are the dunks. And he would have dominated again and won the slam dunk contest. And then if you don't know the players, like, that's. That's a big problem, too. I don't know who these guys are. And I follow the NBA. And you're like, okay, all right, well, maybe this is a coming out party. And then I realize, no, not a coming out party. It's basically four guys. Somebody's got to do this, go make a dunk, but they're going to trot it out again until they find some kind of incentive to get great players or known players to come out there. It's going to be what it is. And that's basically fill in time.
Paulie
Yeah, Paul, Last season's All star game did 4.7 million viewers. This year did 8.8. The best ratings for the game since 2011.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, well, that's when they say, oh, the ratings are up 88%. Well, the ratings were so low that if you got an audience, you were probably going to be at least 50% more than what we've seen before. But it's progress. We had a conversation about it. We suggested this. The commissioner eventually put this in play and maybe, maybe you build on something like this. Yes, Marvin.
Todd Fritz
All Star Saturday night. You have to finish the night with the three point Shootout. You cannot start. They started it.
Dan Patrick
That was the first event I know
Todd Fritz
was three point Shootout. And look, the slam dunk contest, they got rid of it in the 90s because it was so bad. I don't know if you need to get rid of it, but just have it on first, especially if there's no stars.
Dan Patrick
I would have every basketball be the red, white and blue basketball because I love watching the rotation because that, that's a great teaching tool is using, you know, the different colored basketballs there. Now I know you have the money ball at the very end, so maybe you have something that's a little more specialized. But if you're learning to shoot or you're teaching somebody how to shoot, get a ball that's multi colored because then you can see the rotation. And if you saw the rotation of these players, there's just some poetry to that. And, and it, and you know, aesthetically it looks great because you're shooting from distance and you're shooting the lights out. But I would love to have that red, white and blue basketball. Speaking of which, I've been watching the ABA documentary, if you get a chance. And you know, I go back, I think I saw 1975, the Kentucky Colonels play the Spirits of St. Louis with Marvin Barnes. And they played in Cincinnati. And this is when artists Gilmore and Dan Issel were on the same team with the Kentucky Colonels and Spirits of St. Louis. Fly Williams, Marvin Barnes. And you just go back and you're, you're looking at a lot of these players. Rick Barry, he was in the NBA, goes to the ABA. Spencer Haywood, Connie Hawkins, Dr. J. And you know, a lot of these players left their best stuff in the ABA. I certainly think Dr. J did, even though he would have been a Hall of Famer on his NBA Career. But Rick Barry was unbelievable. Just ask him, he'll tell you. But you're watching and you're going to. Wow. I remember that player. I remember that time. And the aba. If you look at what the NBA was, it was boring, it was stale. And the ABA had the basketball and the three point shot and it was run and gun. It was up and down. You had personalities there. Meanwhile, the NBA was. The NBA was kind of like the Big Ten in the 1970s. It was three yards in a cloud of dust. It's like, that's the way we do it. Meanwhile, the ABA is just having fun and, you know, they got what they wanted, that they got, you know, teams absorbed into the NBA. This is what the USFL was trying to do, get maybe three or four teams absorbed into the NFL. But ABA documentary, I would recommend it. If you're a. A big basketball fan or the history of basketball. There's a lot of great. And the fact that. And I did not know this. The ABA had a chance to sign Lu Alcindor. Kareem what? One million dollar check. That George Michan. George Michan, hall of Famer. He was the commissioner. All he had to do because Kareem said, I'm going to take the best offer. One offer from the NBA, one from the aba. And Kareem wanted to play in New York. He was going to play for the Nets. He didn't want to play in Milwaukee or Phoenix. And they were. They of course, were involved in the coin flip. If they hand him the million dollars, it changes the NBA. The history of the NBA has changed. And the aba, because Kareem was that important and all George Michael had to do. And then I think they fired him after that. It's like you had one thing to do. And I think George Mikin later was like, he wasn't worth it or tried to lowball Kareem. And Kareem was like, I'm gonna go where the coin toss, you know, takes me. And Milwaukee won the coin toss with Phoenix. I hadn't. I was not aware of that story. But they show the check for a million dollars and then all of a sudden it's like, he's in Milwaukee, he wins a championship, he wants to go to Los Angeles. It changes the NBA. Wow. By the way, Pat Riley getting a statue in Los Angeles. Lakers gonna give him a statue. I look forward to seeing what that's going to look like with the suit, the tie, the hair, slick back. Yes, Todd, they showed.
Todd Fritz
It looked pretty great. He's got one arm like One hand on his hip, the other in that fist motion.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd Fritz
Meaning, like, get it into Magic. Get it into Kareem Play.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Paulie.
Paulie
This is a really good statue. Sometimes statues don't work out. He's in a nice suit and tie. The hair is slicked and actually bronze because of the statue. It's a really crisp looking statue.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Good for him. Yes.
Todd Fritz
Marvin, Michael Douglas spoke at the ceremony yesterday.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Todd Fritz
Saying that Pat Riley was an inspiration
Dan Patrick
for his Wall street character, Gordon Gekko. And he talked about being in a convertible, and Pat Riley's hair wasn't moving. Pat, I think, was driving. Michael Douglas was in the back seat, and he decided that Gordon Gekko was going to have that look as he's watching Pat Riley drive the car in. In Miami. Yes.
Todd Fritz
Todd and Magic kind of emceed it at halftime when they brought Pat Riley out to speak to the crowd. Other than, I guess, Michael Cooper, pretty much everyone was there. Nixon to Jamal Wils, Rambis.
Seaton
The.
Todd Fritz
The whole gang was there.
Dan Patrick
That's great. Yeah. Good. Good for Riles. Good for us. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, A lot of people yesterday and Pat Riley talked about. He wore suits on the sidelines, and he. He wishes coaches today wore suits. Like a position of authority. Hockey coaches in the box wear suits. You think it'll ever come back to the NBA?
Dan Patrick
Well, they got rid of it during COVID And is it a directive like, you.
Paulie
Can you not wear a suit if you're an MBA coach?
Dan Patrick
Can. Can you wear a suit like.
Paulie
Can. Are you allowed to wear it because it.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I don't think they tell you to just be casual.
Paulie
Okay.
Dan Patrick
But I. I don't know if the commissioner is going to bring that back and say, I want you to wear suit and tie on the sidelines. I mean, I. I think what. You want to make sure that it doesn't look like they. They're, you know, spending Saturday doing yard work, you know, that you. You want to at least be presentable. I remember when Terry Francona, he wore just a pullover when he was with the Red Sox. And then he got yelled at because they said, you don't even have your uniform underneath your pullover. Which was true. He didn't. And then they made sure that he had, you know, his uniform on. Alrighty. I also saw this. Victor Hald Thorup. He won Denmark's first Winter Olympics medal since 1998. It's just the second medal that Denmark has ever won at the Winter Olympics. How is it possible a Scandinavian country has two medals in its history? Meanwhile, you Got some of these dudes that are, you know, biathlon, that win like six gold medals. What's going on? Come on, Denmark, you're better than that.
Paulie
Come on.
Dan Patrick
Soft. They've. They won an individual a silver and men's speed skating. And then 1998, they won a bronze medal in women's curling. Of the day. Brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show.
Paulie
Yes, Paul, I got one article here from the Denmark News. I made that up. They said their issues are the lack of snow and flat terrain in the country of Denmark. I know zero about Denmark, but more
Seaton
of a Summer Olympics.
Dan Patrick
Well, how many Summer Olympic medals has Denmark won? Okay.
Seaton
All right. I think it's considerable.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Let's see. According to what I'm reading right now, Denmark has won 215 total medals. They have 50 gold, 81 silver, 84 bronze. Summer Games, 214 medals. And only well up until.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, no, they have two in the Winter Olympics.
Seaton
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paulie
Are we. Do we have the wrong impression of Denmark as a cold weather country?
Dan Patrick
I believe I do.
Paulie
I think we do.
Dan Patrick
Do they have clogs collectively? Yeah, we need to check on that. Is. Is Denmark like a warm weather destination?
Paulie
The high of 45 today. I don't think that's Celsius.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Who knew? I thought Denmark, being a Scandinavian country, would be able to put up some big numbers there. Yes. Polling.
Paulie
I love when we do topics like this where we know less than nothing
Seaton
just so how uninformed we are on other places.
Paulie
Like, does anyone know exactly where Denmark is, like a bordering country?
Dan Patrick
No.
Paulie
Me neither. Yeah, I looked it up and I still don't know.
Dan Patrick
I think I could see it on the map. In my mind's eye, I can see
Seaton
it's like where Norwegians go to like get out of the cold. They're like, babe, let's get away. Hit the beach in Denmark.
Karen Kilgariff
Okay.
Paulie
It's north of Germany and it's across the old North Sea from Norway and Finland.
Dan Patrick
Okay. I don't know.
Paulie
It seems north.
Dan Patrick
Are they Denmarkians?
Paulie
Checking.
Seaton
It feels extremely north.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but it. Denmark feels cold. Sounds cold, right?
Paulie
If you're going there, you'd pack a jacket.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think so.
Paulie
Right?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
All right, we'll stay on it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, we exhausted that topic. On to our next topic.
Seaton
I don't know if we have exhausted. I'm very interested in the surrounding area.
Paulie
It's a butts Sweden. So I mean, it's.
Dan Patrick
It's.
Paulie
Sweden is all. All cold and they crush The Winter Olympics.
Dan Patrick
Don't you think you could have some people from Denmark sneaking into Sweden because they want to, like it's open for you to dominate the Winter Olympics in your home country. Like, we can. We can be stars. All you got to do is win one medal. If they win a gold. Yes.
Seaton
If I'm drawing lines on a map, which I know is not very scientific at all, but Denmark is about the same position on the globe as Scotland.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
And I would never think of Scotland as. As a wintry place, but it gets cold there. It does get cold there. Yeah. For sure.
Dan Patrick
But they don't have much snow.
Seaton
No, no. That whole northern United Kingdom situation.
Dan Patrick
I haven't gone skiing in Scotland.
Paulie
No.
Seaton
No, not exactly mountainous.
Dan Patrick
No.
Seaton
Really?
Dan Patrick
Not in a long time. I haven't done that any. Who. A couple of phone calls in here. By the way. We got to come up with a marketing plan for Jack Hughes and his teeth. He's got to cash in on this somehow where he doesn't smile, doesn't smile, and then he smiles and then it's crest, you know, some kind of toothpaste there. What do you think?
Karen Kilgariff
Absolutely.
Paulie
That's an obvious. The toothpaste is number one.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes.
Paulie
Invisalign.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd Fritz
Todd, Maybe like aim toothpaste because he aimed and fired and got the winning goal. That would be. If you're gonna go toothpaste.
Dan Patrick
What about gold Bond? You see what I did with that? Casey's a little.
Seaton
A little damp down there. Well, just. Hey, probably everyone's all the focus is
Dan Patrick
on your teeth, but yeah, he's soaked
Todd Fritz
with beer when you have the itch for gold.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. All right, we're working on this. Thank you, Todd. We'll figure it out. Chris in Syracuse. Hi, Chris.
Caller
Hey, thanks, Dan. Hey, I got a best and worst and a couple hockey comments. You know, with the way USA's goalie played yesterday and throughout the Olympics, I was a little surprised. Canada's Connor McDavid won the MVP. And with yesterday being the 46th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice, it would have been pretty cool if they had Al Michaels in the booth along with the regular play by play guys and let him make the call on USA's game winning goal. And my best, Indiana Hoosiers football coach Kurt Stignetti getting 13 million a year through 2033. And I wonder if it's a coincidence that this year he's making 13.2 million. Which edges out LSU's Lane Kiffin, who's making 13 million. And my worst hearing the Point. God, Chris Paul, he's calling it a career. I would have liked to see him go out with a little more fanfare. He certainly deserved it. And another all time great point guard who also lacks an NBA ring on his resume, John Stockton. And there's been some debating since CP3's retirement who had a better career. To me, it's definitely Chris Paul. I mean, plus John Stockton had the luxury of playing his whole career with Karl Malone. I think Stockton's numbers would look a lot different without them.
Dan Patrick
Mailman. Alrighty. Thank you, Chris. I didn't need Al Michaels in the booth. That Al had his moment and that would be forced. Plus, you know, now we have the benefit of, you know, hindsight here. If Al is in the BOOTH and the U.S. doesn't win, you know, kind of loses the poignancy of that. But I will join us coming up, final hour of the program. But it was one of those where I go, wait, 1980 was 46 years ago. How did that happen? Doesn't seem like that. Paulie. Check. Is it 46 years?
Paulie
We're checking.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. Because Marvin goes, man, I thought the 90s were like, you know, 10 years ago. It's quick. Yes, Marv.
Todd Fritz
And you just feel so old. I went to a high school game this. They were like, oh, what year you graduate? 02.
Dan Patrick
Damn. Yes.
Todd Fritz
Todd, does any columnist dare to do the. That's great. But why did it take half a century to win the gold again Column. There's always that one detractor, the one that doesn't vote for the hall of Fame guy. That's the same.
Dan Patrick
That would be you.
Todd Fritz
That probably would be me. That's great. But like, that was like 46 years ago. What happened over the last half a century with gold medals in hockey?
Dan Patrick
What was your other buzz? Get a buzz kill this morning? Yeah, you did. What were you saying? Do you remember Paulie?
Paulie
Red panda.
Dan Patrick
Oh, okay, okay.
Todd Fritz
The woman that balances the teacups.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Let me, let me take a break here. All right. Yeah. All of a sudden Todd's, you know, criticizing this woman on a unicycle. Went with throwing cups and plates. We'll dive into that topic when we come back. Our play of the day is next. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. You can accomplish a lot in a decade. You could earn a bachelor's degree and a master's degree back to back. You could compete in two separate consecutive Olympic Games. Well, we made my favorite murder. It's been 10 years of true crime, 10 years of conversation, and 100 years of swearing. Here's the thing, everyone. Politeness yourself when someone sneezes. From now on, we have something for everyone. Advice, support, and a safe space for your feelings. This is terrible. Triflers need not apply. Stay out of the forest. You're in a cult. Call your dad. Don't worry, it gets worse. Toxic masculinity ruins the party again. I said, dad, what the hell? What are we. What are we gonna do? And he goes, I don't. What the hell? I don't know. We're gonna sally fourth. Sally. We're gonna sally fourth. You guys stay sexy. Don't get murdered. Elvis, do you want a cookie? A cookie? Listen to my favorite murder on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Goodbye.
Dan Patrick
Goodbye.

Hi, I'm Liza Traeger. And I'm Kara Klenk. We're comedians and your favorite overly invested SVU watchers. On that's Messed up, an SVU podcast. We recap iconic episodes, then talk to the stars who lived them, like the legendary Matthew Lillard, who will never forget his time on svu.
Todd Fritz
I do remember the mustache. I will get a psy. I will get a meme of that mustache. Like, every, like, six days, somebody be like, what was this?
Karen Kilgariff
Each week, we cover the crimes, analyze the plot holes, and insult the outfits. Benson goes to talk to Kelly to, like, tell her the news, but is wearing a beret not the time for a silly hat? Benson, what are you doing? New episodes drop every Tuesday on the exactly right network. Listen to that's messed up on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Dun, dun, dun.
Todd Fritz
Segregation in the day, integration at night.
Karen Kilgariff
When segregation was the law, one mysterious black club owner had his own rule. We didn't worry about what was going on outside.
Dan Patrick
It was like stepping in another world.
Karen Kilgariff
Inside Charlie's Place, black and white people danced together. But not everyone was happy about it.
Dan Patrick
You saw the kkk. Yeah. They was dressed up in their uniform. The KKK set out to raid Charlie,
Karen Kilgariff
take him away from here.
Dan Patrick
Charlie was an example of power. They had to crush him.
Karen Kilgariff
From Atlas Obscura, Rococo Punch, and visit Myrtle beach comes Charlie's Place, a story that was nearly lost to time. Until now. Listen to Charlie's place on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts on June 11, 1998, a deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department went missing. It's an all out manhunt for John Audrey. Every search and rescue team in LA county has been called in to help. Within days, tips started flooding into the Sheriff's department. The rumor around the drug scene was that a deputy was taken care of. Is this the story of a man who just got lost in the desert? Or of a cover up in the Inside the nation's largest sheriff's department.
Dan Patrick
A homicide captain saying, detective, do not find out if this guy's guilty or innocent. Who does that?

Oh my God. Of the day. This is the play of the day. Check this out. Now Jack Hughes puts it around the car.
Todd Fritz
United States with numbers walk across it comes. Jack Hughes wins it. The golden goal for the United States. For the first time since the 1980 miracle, the United States takes the gold.
Dan Patrick
Kenny Albert with a call on NBC. Team USA wins the gold for the first time since 1980 and for the first time in an Olympics not held on American soil. That is your play of the day. Play of the Day. Play of the Day. Brought to you by the great folks@ TireRack. TireRack.com for over 40 years, helping you find the right tires for how and what and where you drive. Making your everyday commute more pleasant. Ship fast and free. Backed by free road hazard protection. Convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerack.com the way tire buying should be. Came in this morning and of course, you know, kind of rough conditions to be driving in. We had a blizzard here and soon as I come in, Todd goes, oh, how was your drive? And I told him how my drive was. Next thing he says is, you know what bothers me? Oh, no, you know that that woman who's on the unicycle and she's got the plates and the cups and you know, she performs at halftime. I go, that's what bothers you? He goes, yeah, yeah. I said, oh, Red Panda. And I don't know why Red Panda, of all the things to be bothered by, you're bothered by this woman who's on a unicycle with plates and cups.
Todd Fritz
I think what she's doing is very difficult, but maybe it's the one hit wonder quality of like, it seems like every year maybe because I'm in the booking world and that maybe every year you should have someone else. But to me it seems like every other year that they bring her out on the unicycle and she's balancing the plates and the cups on her head, which again is a very difficult thing to do. But I've seen the mascots on the trampolines flipping over and dunking and I've seen red Panda on her unicycle. Maybe degree of difficulty, maybe there's some kind of flames that are going around, there's something going on or I don't know, she's doing it like in a pond where there's like piranhas around the tire. I don't know, something else, same thing.
Dan Patrick
Seems like she's pretty popular.
Todd Fritz
She's very popular. Yeah, and rightfully so.
Dan Patrick
But that's the important thing is to give the fans what they want.
Todd Fritz
But she's going to reach an age at some point where your joints and muscle, you can't do that forever. So I guess you might as well roll her out as long as you can before you know, you just can't do that. Really in your 60s and 70s.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but if you're in a band and you had one hit, you're going to play that one hit.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, but maybe it's just because it's the same thing. I don't know. I was expecting something else. Like the Christmas at Rockefeller center is Michael Buble and the Trans Siberian Orchestra and Pentatonix and Gwen Stefani and Mario Lopez in that group. It's like, okay, maybe someone else gets a chance to like the tree.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Paul.
Paulie
Yeah, she's been doing this. Her name is Crystal New and she's been doing this since Thanksgiving 93. She was a backup performer for the LA Clippers after someone canceled. She ended up doing 40 games that year and she's been doing it ever since. And multiple reports say she makes, like, upwards of $5,000 her appearance in her heyday.
Seaton
She's not enough money.
Dan Patrick
She got. No, not for doing that.
Seaton
That's not enough money.
Paulie
Five grand for 15 minutes of work.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but degree of difficulty and she. I think she fell and broke her arm or something.
Paulie
They'll pay for broken plates, not arms.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah.
Todd Fritz
Oh. That's why they called the black and blue panda for a while, which I don't understand why now. I know. I didn't realize that she had a fall. Ladies and gentlemen, red panda will bring out her unicycle and balance different Tupperware on her.
Dan Patrick
Lucas in Texas joins us. Hi, Lucas. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Good morning. Good morning.
Caller
You know, it's great to have you guys back. I'm not really sure if the man cave was in good hands last night, but glad to see that the building survives as well as the whole crew there. Hey, two quick things for the Olympics as we kind of wrap it up. Number one, I'm always on the hunt for good items for the man cave. Dan, you have got to get one of those Finland hockey jerseys.
Dan Patrick
They were beautiful. Yep.
Caller
They look absolutely incredible. And then the second thing, you know, looking at this Olympics, I read a piece last night that was saying what.
Dan Patrick
What's going to be the. The legacy of it.
Caller
And I think one really good piece is drones are here to stay in sports coverage. It was annoying at first, but, man, they got some great shots, like going down the bobsled track, other areas. Do you. Do you see drones becoming more prevalent in bigger American sports?
Dan Patrick
If you can bring the audience closer to an event or a person, then that's the wave of the future. And they gave you angles and coverage that we had not seen before. I thought NBC coverage wise did a wonderful job. And even having somebody on the ice with a camera that had. That hadn't happened before. And here's somebody with a camera on their shoulder. They're wearing a helmet out there, and they're following along all of these routines. Yeah, Seaton.
Seaton
It would be cool to get rid of that noise, though. The noise of the. I mean, that's the thing that people were complaining about that anytime you used it, you heard. You're like, I mean, it's cool. The shot looks awesome. But, man, if we could just somehow get rid of that sound, that would be awesome.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. David in Ohio. Hi, David. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan. Welcome back. I got a Best of the weekend. Michael Jordan winning as an owner, winning his Second NASCAR race in a row proving that maybe Jerry Jones should buy a NASCAR team so he can do some winning in February. Thank you,
Dan Patrick
David. Always taking a shot at the Cowboys. Yeah. Michael Jordan hugging the Daytona 500 trophy like it was the NBA championship. NBA Finals. Good for Mike. I'm glad something, you know, is working out for him.
Paulie
Catching a break.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Guys, a champion tuna fisherman, competitive fisherman, gets to play golf all day. Does he just go to his bank account and. And, like, does he have something that just tells him every day when he wakes up how much he's got, or does he have somebody who does that for him? Yes, Todd, I would.
Todd Fritz
If you're like a crummy mood, for whatever reason you're a little despondent, just punch in the little bunch. Oh, okay. I just wanted to check on that.
Dan Patrick
I don't know if Mike would get despondent.
Todd Fritz
Everyone, you know, has mood swings. You're not. You would think just because someone's wealthy and rich or famous that they're happy all the time. Some of the most depressed people are the one. I have the most money.
Dan Patrick
Thank you.
Todd Fritz
Back to you in the studio.
Dan Patrick
Go back to your Red Panda videos.
Todd Fritz
Red Panda.
Dan Patrick
Red Panda. Unicycle, ladies and gentlemen. Red Panda.
Todd Fritz
How did she balance all Those plates?

Host: Dan Patrick (and "The Danettes")
Podcast Network: iHeartPodcasts, Dan Patrick Podcast Network
Episode Theme:
Celebrating Team USA’s dramatic Olympic Hockey gold medal, debating its historical significance and personal value for players, and reflecting on the NBA All-Star Weekend’s new format and nostalgia for basketball history—with plenty of signature humor and offbeat tangents.
Dan Patrick and the Danettes triumphantly return from vacation, energized by Team USA's thrilling overtime gold medal win in men's hockey. They relive the game, debate the magnitude of the achievement, compare the meaning of Olympic gold vs. the Stanley Cup, and touch on the NBA’s refreshed All-Star Game. The episode is rich in sports nostalgia, listener interaction, and classic banter.
Setup & Reaction (02:29–06:34):
Heroics & Legacy:
“Jack Hughes wins it! The golden goal for the United States! For the first time since the 1980 Miracle, the United States takes the gold.”
“You couldn’t script it. In fact, if you tried to script it, somebody would say, alright, let’s ease off. The guy loses his teeth…” (08:39).
“Unbelievable game by Hellbuyk. He was our best player tonight by a mile… That’s American hockey right there... Tonight was all for the country.”
Comparisons to 1980 ‘Miracle on Ice’:
Poll Question Debate (12:41–14:49):
Discussion on how the Olympics and Stanley Cup differ culturally for athletes (“In soccer, there’s nothing more important than the World Cup… but in hockey, it might depend on the team, city, country…” (09:44–10:04)).
“The Olympics will bring in the casual fan or the non-fan... The one thing all these sports try to chase.” (11:55–12:21)
Impressions of the New Format (21:56–25:02):
Slam Dunk Contest Dissatisfaction:
“I think we’ve exhausted the dunk contest… I see better dunks on playgrounds or pickup games” (22:52–23:18).
All-Star Ratings Up:
“Last season’s All-Star game: 4.7 million viewers. This year: 8.8. The best ratings since 2011” (24:07).
All-Star Night Format:
“You have to finish the night with the three-point shootout… can’t start with it!” (24:41)
“How is it possible a Scandinavian country has two medals in its history?” (31:19–33:01)
“I love when we do topics like this where we know less than nothing…” (34:14)
“This is for the gold medal. This isn’t, ‘Hey, you got another game tomorrow night in Toronto…’” (04:41)
“It’s all TV-driven and, you know, to end the game. That’s why it’s not in the Stanley Cup finals or playoffs…” (06:08)
“That’s a ballsy, gutsy win. That’s American hockey right there… Tonight was all for the country.” (08:21)
“You couldn’t script it… That photo is going to live on for the rest of our lives, him smiling with his teeth cracked…” (08:39)
“I don’t want to say [the Cup] publicly… that’s a team and a city as opposed to a country.” (09:08)
“Are they Denmarkians?” (34:51)
“Maybe there’s some kind of flames… or she’s doing it on a pond with piranhas.” (46:42)
“You just feel so old. I went to a high school game and they’re like, oh, what year did you graduate? ‘02. Damn.” (39:10)

If you missed this episode, you’d know that Team USA’s Olympic gold in men’s hockey was a huge, emotional story, stirring memories of the 1980 Miracle—albeit with modern caveats. The show dives into what the win means to players, fans, and the nation, and how it measures up against the dream of a lifelong Stanley Cup quest. You’ll get candid—and often hilarious—takes on All-Star Game reforms, why Denmark apparently never wins in winter, and why Red Panda’s unicycle act divides the Danettes. All of it is classic Dan Patrick: a blend of sports insight, nostalgia, and the playful warmth of a Monday morning locker room.
