You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. It's cut down day. This is it. And then it gets a little bit quiet in the NFL as we get ready for the following Thursday night with the Eagles and the Cowboys. I guess the only other news potential news will be Micah Parsons if the Cowboys can get him signed in time for him to get ready for the Eagles. But we do know Trey Hendrickson will be there for the Bengals as they doubled his pay and then he's a free agent after this. And Terry McLaurin got in. I thought it was three years. $100 million would get this taken care of. I was off by $4 million. But when you think about the commanders, a case study and dysfunction under Daniel Snider because if Daniel Snyder was still there as the owner, I don't think this gets done. Josh Harris coming in. Adam Peters is the GM and instead of letting tensions foster fester, I should say they were able to get this done. Both sides, it feels like got the deal that they wanted. Feels like it was a win win for everybody, certainly for Jaden Daniels. But when you see the formula with the quarterback and his receiver, Jalen hurts A.J. brown to a tyree kill, Josh Allen, Stefan Diggs, Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans and now Washington is ensuring its own future under center has the same chance as these other quarterbacks because right now the commanders aren't who they once were, but they are a whole lot better. And just getting him in there to give him time to get ready and I think that's a big relief for Jaden Daniels because when all else fails, you got to have that safety valve go down through history with a lot of these great quarterbacks and they always had that guy. It felt like Brady got in trouble. Edelman was there or Gronk was there. Joe Montana had Jerry Rice, Steve Young had Terrell Owens, Troy had Michael Irvin. Like you need to have that guy. All else fails, I'm going to you and the commanders certainly have that guy. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. From the crew that brought you the office comes a new comedy of underdogs with major issues. The Dan Patrick Show. No, it's the paper. September 4th only on Peacock you can watch this Program on Peacock. Download the app if you haven't done so. 877 3DP show operator Tyler he's sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Coming up in a little bit. What's it like to get cut seven times in the NFL? Ben DeNucci, former NFL quarterback, just got cut Saturday and he posted a picture having a beer. I think it was real early in the morning, might have been 8am where he's having a beer at the airport as he he got cut again. He'll join us coming up. But the big news is with Trey Hendrickson that he got a pay bump but no deal. Also Kenny Pickett goes to the Raiders. That makes it interesting with the quarterback room and I think by all accounts Dylan Gabriel is your backup quarterback with the Cleveland Browns. The Raiders also added a Mari Cooper. Mari Cooper's had a career. He got paid in Dallas. Didn't he get a hundred million dollars? There was any with Cleveland. Is there another stop there with the Mari Cooper that I'm not aware of? But he's had a pretty good career. Didn't feel like he was ever the number one receiver but he was just one of those guys that he was going to get catches. Yes.
Paulie
Paulie, he started with Oakland for four years, three and a half years in Dallas, couple years in Cleveland, stop in Buffalo. He's got 711 career catches in 10 seasons.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right. We mentioned a little bit first hour with Cal Raleigh. Here's another thing that that is probably not going to be brought up but it should be emphasized if you look, he has thrown out 20 runners. So caught stealing ratio is 75%. He's a Gold Glover, a Platinum Glove winner. In 2024 he led all catchers in games caught, innings caught. That was last year. Factor that in with the season that he's having this year and you got 50 home runs for a team that's in the playoffs and you got a nickname there that now everybody recognizes it's not just about. And it used to be that we did focus on what kind of all around player were you. I remember when Frank Thomas won the MVP and there were baseball critics who said anybody could play first base as well as Frank Thomas. So sometimes it's that'll help you. I don't think anybody ever said how if Albert Pujols could field like there's certain players where you go, it doesn't come up. But then other times it'll come up because it may strengthen your argument with somebody that he's also a great Great fielder. You know, Joe Morgan won a couple MVPs, but he was a really good fielding second baseman. Johnny Bench won an mvp. He was a great fielding catcher. You know, Bonds used to be a really good outfielder, and then he put on weight and, you know, wasn't anywhere near, you know, where he was as a Pittsburgh Pirate. And did anybody talk about Mark McGuire as a fielder? They may talk about Sammy Sosa. Like, you know, there's certain players where you just don't bring it up. Yes, Marvin. Yeah, I was going to say that with somebody like David Ortiz or. Yeah. Edgar Martinez. Oh, should it be hall of Famers because they were only designated hitters. Yeah, don't bring that up anymore. No, I don't think fielding matters as much or it doesn't feel like that's part of the resume. If you're going to say, here is candidate A and candidate B, and you put in, you know, any defensive awards you may have. Yeah. Paulie, I'm wondering if there's still a.
Paulie
Place in baseball for guys who field first and hit second back in the day, like Ozzie Smith was, you know, made it to the hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
Mostly because of his fielding.
Paulie
Your guy, Davey Concepcion was a nice.
Dan Patrick
Hitter, but he was a wicked fielder, and he stayed on the field for decades. And, you know, Concepcion should be in the hall of Fame, but he was overshadowed by the Big Red Machine. Ozzy was very flashy, you know, run out to his position, do a backflip and. And, you know, he played for good teams. But David Concepcion, who invented the one hop off the Aster turf from deep short, and I thought he was a wonderful player. Yeah. Paulie, you should crank this one up again.
Paulie
You got to get Steve Garvey, maybe.
Dan Patrick
A two for Tuesday and Davey Conception.
Paulie
Because you can't make nine straight All Star games and not be in the hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
It should be almost a rule.
Paulie
Davey Conception, nine straight.
Dan Patrick
Steve Garvey should be in the hall of Fame as well. What's up? I. But I'm. I can't get everybody in like, I got. You got. I got work to do.
Paulie
You got three years.
Dan Patrick
You got to take care of these things. I know Cincinnati people would love this. I even forgot about helping Tony Baselli get in the hall of Fame. I led that crusade, and thankfully Pro Football hall of Fame listened or somebody did. Yeah. Marvin, one more guy that you should get into the Baseball hall of Fame. Fielder. First guy, Omar Fiscal. Yeah, I think he's got some baggage. Ah, but you're right. I thought he was the best fielding shortstop that I ever saw. His hands were unbelievable. Unbelievable. But I think there's baggage there. Don't want to go into detail, but I think there's some baggage. Kip in Nashville. Good morning, Kip. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, good morning, D.P. good morning. Crew had a question, and it's something. It's a big, glaring omission. First, let me state I love football, but I don't particularly care for the NFL and the way the NFL does business. Having said that, regarding this Michael Parsons, Jerry Jones situation. Where is the NFL PA in this? Does Michael Parsons have to file a grievance? Does he have to bring them in? At what point does the NFL get off its spineless behind and actually do the job that the players are paying them to actually do?
Dan Patrick
Well, I brought this up the last couple of weeks, Kip, and no traction. Jerry Jones isn't allowed to negotiate with the player. That's why you have an agent. Jerry's been doing this. And nobody is reprimanding Jerry Jones. Yes. Why isn't somebody. I have no idea. Going after him? I have no idea. Because why isn't the union doing something? I think Jerrell Rivas and he's. Somebody had recommended him for NFL, like the NFL Player association president, but he brought that up yesterday or the day before that. Why aren't we doing this? Why is Jerry Jones able to negotiate a contract with Micah Parsons and then use that and say, hey, we agreed to something. Well, it's just you and him. Whereas if you have an agent in there, it just changes the story. But I don't know why somebody hasn't said something to Jerry. But, yeah, Paulie, I have an idea. The NFL should say to Jerry Jones, if you do this again, your punishment will be.
Paulie
You cannot do any media appearances for an entire year.
Dan Patrick
That'll get his attention. Furminator in Florida. I Ferminator.
Caller
Yes, sir. Hello, Dan. Now, your team there. Long time listener, first time caller. 5 11, 191. And earlier in the show, you were on to something, but you missed it by about a thousand miles, I think. I don't know if you're aware, in Baltimore there this morning, they're setting up for a major press conference at the stadium to announce Derek Henry's retirement. He said that the great Dan Patrick had introduced him to the movies and he's going to go to the movies full time now.
Dan Patrick
Well, thank you for minor. We'll get some of our best people on that. Derek Henry is going to pull a Jim Brown and now do movies. Thank you for a nator. That's nice. No call back there. Let me see Wayne in Montana. Hi, Wayne. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hi, Dan, thanks for taking my call. Long time, second time. Six to 2:30 and working on it. But a little over a year ago we were planning a trip to Rome and a couple months before that we, we were listening to your episode and heard the episode about asunta madre. So I took the episode home, played it for my wife, and we got online, made a reservation and just had a great time. So now we are scheduling a trip to Long island and Bethpage and the Ryder cup and just wondering if you or the Danets or Dan Nation has any recommendations on, on the area or.
Dan Patrick
I am, I am Long island ignorant. I can't help you there. Maybe Dan Nation Canta madre was. Guy Fieri is the one who told me about this restaurant and it was great. No one spoke any English. All I know is I walk in and you know, the fish they've just caught, I mean, the fish are like still flapping and they got them on ice. And I just remember, you know, we sat down and waiter came over and he said, you know, didn't speak English. And I said, okay. And he goes, come here. And I go up where all this. There's like seven or eight different styles of fish. And I go, what about this? You like this? We like that. Okay, we take that. And I'm going, no, no, I, I, I hold on. I don't know. I don't know. What about that? Oh, you like that? We'd make it that. And we got. And I go. So I went and sat down. My wife goes, did you order? I said, I don't know what I ordered. I have no idea. Next thing I know, two big plates come out with the fish with the head on it. Everything Love that. And it was wonderful. Sante madre is the name of it. And how's my accent there? Spot on. Thank you, thank you. But it in Rome and Guy Fieri is the one who told me about that. Yes, Todd, you prefer the head of the fish on or off? And choose off. Yeah, me too. Yeah, Off. Yeah. I don't need to look at you. I'm sorry. You know, don't need to look at the, the eyeball. You stare at it long enough, it looks like it moves a little bit. So freaky. Yeah. Paulie, I found it. A suntra madre. Yeah, it looks good. Yeah. Yeah, but it's the real deal. I don't think anybody spoke English in there. Which is fine. You know, I'm not the ugly American of saying, you know, why don't you know English? It added to the charm there that we had no idea what we're ordering and that I'd point to something. And then my wife said, will you stop doing that? Because he. He takes the order every time. I'd go, what about that? You like that? We get that. And I go, I don't know. We just ordered an aperitif and after drink dinner. I don't know what was in it, but I'm like, all right, sure. Yes. Marvin. Did you do that impersonation the entire trip? No, no. My wife gets mad at me when I'm having fun because. Oh, so it's not just me. I was just having fun where I would call everybody Jimmy Scungeal and Tommy Calamari. Yeah. And then she would go, we stop. I go, come on, come on. And then by the end of it, she started saying it. She'd go, I know.
Paulie
Captive audience.
Dan Patrick
Jimmy Scungeal and Tommy Calamari. Because, you know, I would just point out, they say, go over there to Jimmy Skunjeel and see if we can get a beer here. Yes, Todd, if you guys over order at a fancy restaurant on vacation, you got leftovers. It's just the portions are too big. What do you do in that situation other than trying to jam it into the little fridge where they have the little bottles of liquor? If you wanted to keep it for next few days, what do you do? Oh, I'm not bringing the food back. If you dropped all kinds of cash and it was delicious and you wanted to have more beyond that one, well, why don't you over order? Well, like you said, you pointed to stuff. Oh, we'll get to that. And the next thing you know, they bring 15 plates your way. You realize you ordered. I'm not. If I'm on vacation, I'm not going to try to cram it in one of those little refrigerators. Pretty difficult to do that again. I'll put it outside on the. The veranda. Well, not going to do that. Oh. What's the poll question? For a seat. And what's the poll question today? Speaking of? This is our version of Jimmy Scud and Jeal and Tommy Calamar. Calamari. People are hating this poll question, actually. By the way, we went to the Vatican and they have the guards have those really bright, vibrant outfits.
Paulie
Orange and red.
Dan Patrick
Yes. And I would say, man, it's tough to go to work if you're Jimmy Scungeal and Tommy Calamari. And she said, will you stop? I said. I said, you're Italian. She goes, yeah, you're not. And I said, okay, all right. I said, you want to make fun of people in Ireland, go ahead, hon. Everybody else does. She goes, I know, but I don't do that. I go, all right, all right. I'm just saying, if I was going to work every day and I had to wear those outfits, it might be a little challenging. I get. I get reminded often at home about how Italian people don't think their food is funny at all. There's nothing funny about this. So you could say mood sale all you want, but it's not funny. It's not. This isn't something that we laugh about. I have an Italian feast. It's the 100th year of this Italian feast coming up this weekend. Awesome. Sounds awesome. Yeah. What's that? Sounds great. Yeah. Fresh moods. Yeah. No, food's great. Food's great. It just. It takes forever to start the grill, and it's a long day. It's a long day. Yes. Mark, does your wife say, can I get fresh moots? She doesn't know. She will sometimes if we're in Italy, then all of a sudden the accent comes out and we're like, okay, all right, here we go. We were. We were in Italy at a restaurant, and my wife was all in on Italy, you know, and she's Italian, and she was like. And she was trying to speak to this guy, like, what. What part of Italy are you from? And he goes, I am from Cuba. Let me take a break here. What? Can I talk to the Nooch Bendonucci? Right on. See, right on cue. If he knows Tommy Calamari, Jimmy, appreciate this segment. Actually, he did not appreciate. He probably didn't. When word gets to my wife and she'll be like, we'll take a break. Back after this. Columbia Ben Denucci, NFL quarterback, recently cut by the Falcons, the seventh time he's been released in his pro career. He played at Pittsburgh, he played at James Madison and was initially, I think, selected by the Cowboys and the 2020 NFL Draft. Got to start a game for the Cowboys, I think that same year during COVID and Ben joining us, I wanted to buy you a beer. I felt bad when you posted you were at the airport. What time was that? You were having a beer on Saturday?
Paulie
About 3pm So I thought, I thought it was, I thought it was good enough time to crack one open, so figured it was fine.
Dan Patrick
Do you ever get used to getting cut?
Paulie
Honestly?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
I mean, I was very fortunate the first couple years of my career to be, to be in Dallas and then the last couple years. Yeah, the last 12 or 12 or 18 months I've been on three or four teams and it seems like every, every couple months you're, you're packing up, finding, finding a new place to play and you know, going about your business. So yeah, I'd say at this point I'm, I'm used to it. I'm kind of numb to it. Not necessarily that it's a bad thing.
Dan Patrick
It's.
Paulie
You just kind of get used to it.
Dan Patrick
How tense is cut down day for.
Paulie
Me, the last, I mean the last couple years it hasn't been very tense. I didn't see myself having any chance to make the roster, to make the practice squad. But it's tough, right? I mean, you people don't realize for the guys that are trying to make this roster, any roster, the preseason is your, is your super bowl, right? Your playoffs. You get two or three games, you get maybe a couple quarters a game to go put on tape what you're, what you're going to do not only for the team you're on, but the 31 other teams. So it's, it's very stressed. I've got a few buddies who are still sitting around waiting this morning to see if, see if their phone rings or not and they'll go from there. But yeah, it's stressful. It's guys lives, livelihoods, it's their way of making money and it's, you know, what, what they do. So it's, it's very stressful.
Dan Patrick
How are you told?
Paulie
My phone rang from a New York number that I didn't have in my phone and that's normally, you know, that's normally a number you don't Ever want to see pop up on your phone? I answered, hey, Ben, you know, coach wants to see you. Bring your iPad, bring your charger, bring your playbook. And that's kind of. Kind of how it rolls. When you get into the facility, there's somebody waiting for you. They take you around, drop your iPad off, go see your coaches, go see, you know, whoever else you need to see. And then, you know, they buy you a flight, and then you're. Next thing you know, you're drinking an airport beer.
Dan Patrick
So, okay, what do you do now? Like, at what point do you say, now, I. I know you're. You're going to do a football game. Coming up, Air Force and Bucknell and CBS Sports Network, but are you done trying out for NFL teams?
Paulie
So, no, I don't think I'm officially done yet. Right. I mean, the NFL is an interesting kind of animal. You get a phone call at any second. Could be today, tomorrow, could be in six months, could. Could never be again. So, yeah, the tough part guy for guys is. Is staying in it, Right. Waking up every morning, still doing what you've been doing the last couple years to make sure that, you know, if the phone rings, you know, you're. You're doing what you're supposed to do and ready to roll that if a team needs you. But at the same time, I've been in this situation a couple times the last couple years, and I don't necessarily want to be waiting around again all fall, just stressing myself out, watching NFL games on Sunday. So I'm excited to. To move on a little bit, progress the next chapter of my career outside of football, and looking forward to calling Bucknell versus Air Force this Saturday.
Dan Patrick
Okay, but if you get a call on Friday night by an NFL team, what happens to Saturday afternoon, Bucknell and Air Force?
Paulie
I'll tell them, hey, I can't. I can't be anywhere until Sunday. And hopefully, the response is what I expect.
Dan Patrick
7Th round Dr. By the Cowboys.
Paulie
Correct.
Dan Patrick
What was that like when Jerry Jones called you to tell you he was drafting you?
Paulie
Very cool. I think I might be one of the only people in Cowboys history to say that I got drafted from. From Jerry Jones's yacht. It was that Covid year, so they weren't. They weren't in their draft room in Dallas. I think Jerry was calling everybody from. From. From his yacht in the middle of the ocean somewhere and saw the phone ring. It was his assistant. He said, hey, you know, Ben, you know, Mr. Mr. Jones wants to talk to you. We've got the next pick, we're drafting you. And you know, that point, it was kind of like, all right, this is, this is really cool. Everything that we worked for, growing up, high school, college, it's kind of all come, all come first, full circle and worth it. And this is kind of the moment that, that we've been waiting for.
Dan Patrick
Ben Denucci, NFL quarter. I'm still going to introduce you as NFL quarterback.
Paulie
That's, that's fair. I'll, I'll take it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Okay. Released for the seventh time in his pro career. And it'll be in the broadcasting booth. It'll be Bucknell and Air Force. That'll be at 3:30 Eastern this weekend for CBS Sports Network. Being on the practice squad as opposed to the active squad, what's the difference in how you're treated? Your pay, lifestyle?
Paulie
Yeah, honestly, nothing's different. Except the, except your weekly checks that you're getting in every week. You know, everybody treats you the same way, right? I mean, there's 53 guys on the active roster, and there's 16 on the practice squad. And the reality of the NFL is that guys are going to get hurt over the course of the year. Right. Whether it's, you know, whatever position it is. And so those guys that are on the practice squad, they're, they're a vital part of the team. They're the guys that are getting the starters ready to go, to go, you know, play out there on Sundays. They have a vital, vital role in making these teams go. And so there's a reason that these teams put a lot of effort into, into the practice squad just, just like they do the active roster. So, yeah, it's really all the same. You're still traveling with the team, you're still, still practicing, still part of meetings, the pay cuts a little bit, a little bit less. But at the end of the day, it's, it's, it's still great. So.
Dan Patrick
But can you, can you leave it now? Like, if I say, what is your moment? You're going to tell your kids or grandkids where you. That's my NFL moment. What is it?
Paulie
Yeah, I mean, it'd be, It'd be hard not to say, you know, my rookie year when I got to start that game on Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys, I think that's a moment that everybody kind of grows up thinking, hey, I'd love to. I'd love to play in the NFL, let alone let it be for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dan Patrick
Right?
Paulie
I mean, the stars just kind of this iconic brand, not only you know, in the U.S. but, you know, overseas as well. So, yeah, it's. It's crazy that it just happened my first year. Some guys it happens year 10, some it happens year 5. And mine just happened to be. To be rookie year. And so to be able to do that and say I started a game for the Dallas Cowboys is something that a lot of people can't. Can't say and stick their name to. So that was kind of my, hey, welcome to the NFL moment. And I think when. When it's all said and done, that'll be what I look back on and say, man, that was. That was pretty cool. I'm glad that. Glad that happened.
Dan Patrick
How nervous were you?
Paulie
Well, honestly, I think I would have been a lot more nervous had there been 75,000 people in the stands, like, a year, opposed to only 5 or 6,000 for Covid. So I honestly wasn't that nervous. Right. I think you're more nervous just kind of the week leading up the practice, the game plan, making sure, you know, the checks, everything is kind of. You're good mentally. And then when you get out there on the. On the day of the game, shoot, it's the same game I've been playing for the last 15 years. So when you step in inside the white lines, it's. It's go time. You got to shut everything else out and go play ball.
Dan Patrick
You get to keep your jerseys from all these stops. You do?
Paulie
Yeah. You can see my Cowboys one up here. I grabbed. I grabbed my Falcons one last weekend, and I think I've got. The only. The only one I don't have is the Bills from last year during camp. So trying to. Trying to find a way to. To get that one. That's the last one I need.
Dan Patrick
Do you have to ask, or do you steal?
Paulie
Well, you steal, but they still. They still deduct it from your paycheck. You've got to kind of sign off on everything. The day after the games, when they're checking all the jerseys back in, they're like, all of a sudden, hey, Denucci's jersey's not here. Let's make he pays for this thing on his way out. So that might have been my last parting gift from the Falcons.
Dan Patrick
How much was it?
Paulie
400 bucks. Yeah. So, I mean, I guess it depends who you ask. That's a lot of money.
Dan Patrick
Or not. So is it game used?
Paulie
It's worth it.
Dan Patrick
It was worth it. Yeah.
Paulie
It's game used. Yeah, the game took it right off. I took it right off my tags after the game and threw it through my bags.
Dan Patrick
Good luck with the broadcasting career. And maybe the phone rings. But you got the opportunity, though, Ben. That's the key. And a lot of us never had it. You got it, and maybe you get that opportunity again. But it seemed like you're in good spirits. I don't know if you're masking something. Did you cry?
Paulie
I've cried a couple of times. I'm at this point in my career where it's just. I'm filled with a lot of gratitude at this point. Right. To be able to be cut that many times, you've got to. You know, teams got to like you enough to sign you in the first place. Right. So it's been an unbelievable career. Got five good years. Played on a bunch of different teams. Played for some, you know, head coaches that I grew up idolizing. You know, Coach McCarthy, Coach Payton, Coach McDermott in Buffalo. Played with a lot of guys, right? Dak, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, guys that, you know, I've had on my fantasy team for years growing up. And then all of a sudden, you're sitting next to them in the. In the media room saying, how the hell. How the heck did I get here? So it's been really cool for me. Yeah. There's no reason to hang my head. I'm excited about the next chapter, and it's been. It's been a heck of a ride.
Dan Patrick
It might be awkward, and it might be awkward me even saying this, but did you ever try to swap jerseys with Dak or Russell Wilson or Josh Allen?
Paulie
Honestly, no. That thought never even even crossed my mind. But looking back now, I sure would like to have a couple of. A couple of those jerseys to throw up next to mine in my. In my man cave, just to say, hey, my kids one day. Yeah, your dad was decent. He. He actually did play with these guys. He doesn't just have a bunch of random, random jerseys of himself hanging up on the wall.
Dan Patrick
Thanks for joining us. We appreciate being a good sport here, and good luck against with Bucknell and Air Force this weekend. Thank you, Dan.
Paulie
Appreciate it. All the best.
Dan Patrick
That's Ben Denucci, just released by the Falcons. You know, Paulie said, I think people would appreciate hearing from somebody where, you know, you get cut and then you get cut again. And so seven times in your career, you get cut. And I think when I saw the social media post when Ben's at the airport, and now you got to go home and you're having a beer and you're all by yourself, and that's that's the other part of this. We see you're making $50 million a year, but then there's the guy who played at two different places. You get drafted by the Cowboys, you start a game for the Cowboys, then all of a sudden you start to bounce around, bounce around. And then at some point you have to say, all right, now I have to move on. And that's a difficult. So you're kind of announcing your retirement. When you do that, even though he's healthy, like, he's going to have to announce it, not the team. You're announcing that you're moving on with your life. But I, I still think it's. But that phone may ring. It may ring. Couple of phone calls in here. Let's see. John in Minnesota. Hi, John. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan, thanks so much for taking my call. And apropos following Ben. But the question to you is, I really admire and respect you. Longtime listener. I love you and the guys. I just wonder when you've gone through some tough times and dark period, which you've openly communicated about who are some of the sports heroes and sports lessons that have helped you get through tough times. You're almost like a brother, father, the way you communicate to me. Curious.
Dan Patrick
Well, thank you, John. I, I confided in my wife. I mean, it was my wife, obviously my family, even, you know, my brothers, my sisters. But, like, you don't know what that feels like until you're in that moment when, you know, it's. You're depressed and not even sure if I was going to continue. I physically didn't think I could do this anymore. And then you just get so bummed and so down. And I was, I was in a dark place for a few months. But you still have to, you know, brighten somebody's day when you do that. That's the hardest part is I come in here and I act like myself. But those, Those couple of months, I had to act like I was supposed to act or be. And that was hard because I didn't feel good and I didn't want to be here, but I did need to be here. And I was so lucky I had the Danets because it, it got me away from how I felt. But, and I, I've said this, there is no shame, no shame in talking to somebody if it's a therapist or. And no shame, please do, because all you want somebody to do is just listen and kind of set, you know, my compass. I had no idea where I was going. I had no idea. My wife was, it was like a moving target. But yeah, it really my family because those are the important people in my life and I needed them to understand what I was going through. I didn't confide, confide in a therapist or anything like that. Not that I wouldn't know, but I needed to communicate with my family. But thank you John for the phone call. Let's take a break. Hey sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance bro tell you how to manage your money again? Welcome to Brown Ambition. This hard part when you pay down those credit cards, if you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem. A year from now when you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan starting with your local credit union. Shopping around online looking for some online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive in these streets I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt and it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand. It's nice and dark in the sand even if it's scary. It's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment, free money advice, listen to Brown ambition on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.

Aiden in Utah. The recently engaged Aiden in Utah. Hi.
Caller
Yep. Good morning, dp. How's it going? Great. I'm actually calling just to talk to seating because nobody else cares about this. Seeing as a lifelong Newcastle United fan for the last three years, I want to know your opinion on the Alexander Usak contract and his hostage situation, as I have called it.
Dan Patrick
Couldn't you have just called Seaton privately and had this conversation? No, no. This is national.
Caller
This is national radio.
Dan Patrick
I know, I know. That's what I'm saying, man. I'll tell you what. I would love to dive into that situation. Yeah. But you know, maybe on social media, not my show, unfortunately. Yeah. Maybe an hour and a half from now, give us a call and Seaton can download you.
Paulie
It's a baller though.
Dan Patrick
He's a boss. How about we play fill in the blank? Fill in the blank. Do we have any music? Newcastle should do blank with Alexander Isak. They should sign him. They should sign him. They should. All I care is the Hansen brothers gave us. The reputation of the Bengals organization is blank. Todd blank. Stingy Satan choppy Marvin changing. Oh, well deserved. Arch Manning will blank the Heisman Trophy. Todd Archmanning will watch the Heisman Trophy presentation. Seaton. Yes, it's actually. That is the way you read it is right. You will blank the Heisman Trophy. That's not happening. Yeah, Marvin. He'll look at the Heisman Trophy. Paul Cruz to the Heisman Trophy cruise.
Paulie
I think it's one of those Paul Newman winning for color money things.
Dan Patrick
It's gonna be hard for him to lose it.
Paulie
It's payback for the family getting whatever you want to say jobbed over the years. Archie Manning finished fourth.
Dan Patrick
Eli finished third. Peyton finished second. There it is. I would start my defense with a Pro bowl blank. Todd. I cross that edge rusher and I put linebacker. Pro bowl linebacker. Satan type of interior lineman. All right, Marvin. Edge rusher. Paul. Free safety. Russell Wilson's time with the Giants will be blank. Todd.
Paulie
Rocky Seaton.
Dan Patrick
Forgettable Mars. Russ D. Okay. Love it. Uh huh. Brisk. The 49ers will be blank this season. Todd. The 49ers will be improving this season. Seaton. Not good, Marvin. Better than last year. Well, they won six games last year.
Paulie
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
So seven games. Okay. Paul. Underwhelming the guy who tells NFL players that they are cut is blank. Todd. That would be the bad guy. Seaton. That person is a bleep. Marvin. Better than me. Paul Emotionless. Well, it is their job. Yeah. It's not like they go, hey, when it comes down to cutting guys, I want to be your guy. I want to make him cry. Yeah, there might be people like that. There might be some guys who are like you.
Paulie
I love to do the firing if I can.
Dan Patrick
Cal Raleigh will finish the season with blank home runs. Todd 57. Satan many. Marvin 58. Oh, 57. All right, that's it. Yeah. Nailed it. We did it. We did it. Kenny in Denver. Hi, Kenny. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan. The third time I've called. First time that I was ever able to actually talk to you. I, you know, you get calls, things come up. I'm now part of a huge constituency of yours. The triple I club, the infirmed, incarcerated or otherwise incapacitated. I had open heart surgery two weeks ago, but that's not why I called. There was like three, three months ago, Todd. There was a three day period where Todd was being particularly Toddish. And I thought, you know who you've got to get on. It would be a great guest appointment. Viewing would be Mrs. Todd Fritz. If we could have her on, the questions you could ask her would be amazing. The answers you would give. It probably, I mean, you probably have to put Todd in the cone of silence when she's on though.
Dan Patrick
Well, I was thinking one day that we just put the spouses, the wives of the danets in their chairs and the danets aren't in that day and I just have your wives in. What do you think? I think that'd be great, Marvin. Yeah. Okay. Paul.
Paulie
I think it's great content.
Dan Patrick
Seaton. Heck yeah. All right, maybe we do that. Maybe we get the wives in here. Oh yeah. Was it so tough today hitting golf balls all day, honey.
Paulie
Definitely get a lot of that.
Dan Patrick
Oh, what'd you. Oh, what'd you have to. You didn't hit the golf ball the right way. Is that how it was a bad day. I know if I come home and I'm. I would dump 20 years of that all over the kitchen table. Yeah, my wife, because I just say she'd be like, well, what are you about? How about we walk to dinner? I go, man, I'm tired from what I said. I, I work today. She goes, but like, nothing physical. I said, it's mental, hun. I don't have a Lot to. To work with here. So I got to work even harder mentally. And speaking of making me mental, Todd. What? I get things like us. You talk sports and goofed around with each other and then had some sliders. I don't know how you got through the day. Thank you, Todd. Albert in Hollywood. Hi, Albert. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hi. Hey, thanks for taking my call. Just speak for the guys here on this last topic. You don't want your wives intermixing there at the workplace. But I called because, Fritzi, you caught my attention with the what to do with the to go platter. When you're on vacation, I spend a lot of time on the road. And if it's an eco friendly to go box, you have to add a step. But if it's one of those plastic ones, what I do is I take it back to the hotel room, I get the bucket of ice from down the hall, fill the sink with it, and then I put that to go platter right on top.
Dan Patrick
All right. Well, thank you. Interesting. Well, you could have thought of that. No, but that's. Actually, I didn't think of that, but I wouldn't do that. Yes, Marvin. Sorry. Completely unrelated. Going back to fill in the blank. Can I make a bet with Paulie? Oh, I'll take a pie to the face. Oh. Archie Manning will not win the Heisman Trophy Arch. Excuse me, Paul. No, I wouldn't take that bet. Wait a minute. You just said he's cruising to the Heisman Trophy.
Paulie
Yes, I believe that, but I wouldn't take that.
Dan Patrick
But there's too many variables, so you may not cruise to the Heisman trophy. All right, I'll take it. Okay. I like that. Like shaming you. It's a light shaming. Obviously winning the Heisman, but I'm never gonna bet. Yeah. What do you think, I'm stupid? Nice fish in Pennsylvania. Hi, fish. What's on your mind?
Caller
What's up? Boys Love the show. Talking about trying to make it in the NFL. I've often thought if you're just the fourth putter to make a putt in a meaningless scramble, the pressure you're under is pretty amazing. Imagine a young guy that's trying to make it, maybe married, maybe even have a kid or two. What that pressure must be like, because they don't get paid if they don't place.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And I have great respect for Ben Denucci, who joined us because, I mean, we can have fun with him being cut seven times, but I really wanted him to tell me what that's like that feeling and almost like that dread. But. But you have to be good enough to get cut that many times, as strange as that may sound. But people keep giving you a chance. Jeff in San Diego. Hi, Jeff.
Caller
Good morning, Dan. And Dan, I just wanted to reiterate that how good Aaron Donald was. I mean, he was the rookie of the year, eight time pro, all pro, nine time pro Bowler. But thing I wanted to talk about, when he worked out with Jared Verse this past season. Did you guys see that video?
Dan Patrick
Yes, I did.
Caller
Yeah, it's amazing. Two years in retirement and he was just teaching this young stud.
Dan Patrick
I know. And Verse is a really good player. But thank you for the phone call, Jeff. Aaron Donald is underrated in my opinion. He's hall of Famer, but I think we get caught up in the edge. Rusher. Two hours in the books. One more to go. Todd Seaton, Marv, Paulie, yours truly, and the backroom guys as well. Final hour on the way.

In this lively episode, Dan Patrick and the Danettes discuss the recent major contract signings in the NFL—most notably with the Washington Commanders—setting a new precedent for team culture and player relationships. The show features an in-depth interview with Ben DiNucci, a quarterback freshly released for the seventh time, offering candid insight into the emotional rollercoaster of cut day in the NFL. The crew also talks Hall of Fame snubs, the importance of defensive skills in baseball, takes plenty of calls from fans covering topics from sports memories to Italian cuisine, and keeps things humorous and conversational throughout.

On the Realities Beyond Sports Stardom:
"We see you’re making $50 million a year, but then there’s the guy who played at two different places. You get drafted by the Cowboys, you start a game for the Cowboys, then all of a sudden you start to bounce around... and then at some point, you have to say, all right, now I have to move on and that's a difficult..."
