It's hour two on this Wednesday Dan and the Danette's Dan Patrick show the day before Thanksgiving. I've already had my Thanksgiving dinner last night. My wife for some reason decided to make a full turkey dinner before we break bread with my family tomorrow. Come on in and stay awhile. By the way, we don't have a meat Friday today. Or I should say Friday because we won't be here. But we have a meat ish Wednesday. Sausage or bacon, egg and cheese, bagels and hash browns. Who has it better than we do? Nobody. Make sure you head to Dan patrick dot com. A lot of good items there, including that sexy calendar, especially the picture of one.
Dan Patrick
I didn't want to interrupt, but I interrupted anyway. Did your wife do the turkey thing as like a test balloon to make sure everything was good ahead of time as opposed to randomly picking turkey right before Thanksgiving?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
She's not cooking Thursday.
Dan Patrick
So what do you think her motivation was for giving you turkey if you're going to be eating a whole lot of turkey and just 48 hours later.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I said that I didn't know.
Dan Patrick
Did you offer up an explanation or you just kind of stayed quiet and.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Well, she made me a great meal, so I didn't want to say. I did say, oh, Thanksgiving on Tuesday. But yeah, I didn't. I. She made a great meal and I didn't help with it because she'd already made it. So I didn't want to go, oh, what do we. Why are we having this today? So you got to pick your spots. That's all I was doing. But yeah, we're having it Thursday. She's not involved in the in the process.
Dan Patrick
Sorry to interrupt.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Thank you, Todd. So go to dan patrick.com. a lot of great things there. And in time for the holiday shopping stat of the day, brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show the Yukon Huskies back to back national champs back to back losses. You can catch the number two team rank in the country and they'll be at home. They take on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. That'll be live Saturday, 7 Eastern only on Peacock. I'm going to guess they're going to win that game comfortably.
Dan Patrick
Got to get back on, get back on the wagon.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I think so I'll tell you, one.
Dan Patrick
Practice I don't want to be at today.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Today after back to back losses. Oh, dear. But people are surprised that this is. That Danny Hurley acts this way. Like. Yes. His entire coaching career and his brother and his dad. This is, this is their personality here. Like, oh my God, have you seen him? And the language. I. Yes. This is how he coaches it is off putting it. He's going to be the villain of college basketball.
Dan Patrick
He almost was last year and. Or maybe it was the year before and you know, sort of put a. A nice ring championship band aid over that.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah. Yes. Marvin.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I'm not sure if it's the language. I think it's the theatrics incorporated with the language.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Because every single college coach curses. But with the. Oh my gosh and the flailing and all that stuff and falling to the ground, I think that's what takes it over the top. Coach K and Roy Williams also curse, but maybe just not in the same way with all the theatrics.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Well, I think he tripped. I don't think he fell to the ground that one time. Felt like he tripped over one of his coaches.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
You don't think so?
Dan Patrick
Oh, I don't know.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay. Yes, Yes.
Dan Patrick
I think language is one thing. Coaches have all had bad mouths or foul mouths. That's no big deal. And it is sort of. It's so, so theatrical even when he's not saying anything. And he does the. The lip thing where he's like mugging somebody. Like, what are you doing? Is the way his mouth turns down and stuff. He makes the goofiest faces even when.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
He'S not saying anything is a riot.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Paulie, he does feel like an 80s coach in 2024, but the winning cleans it up when he wins. No one's going to complain. Hard. It's only when you. You dip. If you dip, then his. The things that are funny and cute and likable, if that's the right word now, will be looked at differently.

Dan Patrick
Wow.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Now we know Michigan lost a lot of players and Ohio State is one of the top five teams in the country. But Michigan is getting 20 and a half against Ohio State. All right, poll question for hour two. Then we'll get to Andy Staples who covers college football. Seaton.
Dan Patrick
We've also got up there right now.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
If you could only watch one for.
Dan Patrick
The next five days, NFL or CFB. Right now the NFL is leading with about 55% of that vote.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay. Well I'm looking at the matchups though. What's the matchup? That is must see tv. Georgia's a big favorite. Miami's a big Favorite. Arizona State 9 point favorite. Tennessee is a double digit favorite. Texas 5 and a half against Texas A and M. I would say the Notre Dame against usc. Notre Dame minus seven and a half. But you know, the other ones don't seem like they're going to be Georgia Tech getting 19 and a half against Georgia. So I don't know. Now there could be teams or a team that gets knocked out if something goes sideways here. But for the most part these teams should be able to hold serve. If Notre Dame loses, Notre Dame's probably out of the playoffs here. All right, we'll get to your phone calls coming up and we'll talk to Ryan Fitzpatrick. He'll be on the call, the Amazon Prime NFL analyst. It'll be Black Friday on Amazon Prime. It's Kansas City against the Raiders. He'll join us coming up. Also next hour, Kenny Maine, my former ESPN co anchor, he is he's got a documentary on Wiffle ball and he'll tell us about that as well as we make way for Andy Staples, our good buddy from on three sports covers. The sport always makes us smarter in the joints just now. Andy, good morning. Got any problem with the latest rankings?
Dan Patrick
The one that I thought was a little interesting is where they have Clemson at number 12. So what they're saying here is if Clemson beats South Carolina, which South Carolina is their number 15 team that you know, Clemson could jump into an at large spot depending on what happens above them. And I think that's a little interesting because of the teams that they have them clustered around because they got Clemson just ahead of Alabama and Ole Miss. Now Alabama and Ole Miss each have one more loss. But let's look at the schedules. Clemson, toughest game they played. Georgia got destroyed by Georgia. Alabama and Ole Miss both beat Georgia. Clemson did not play the kind of schedule they did. Now what you can say is well, Alabama shouldn't have lost to Oklahoma by three touchdowns downs. Ole Miss shouldn't have lost to Florida. I mean those are five lost teams and that makes perfect sense. But Clemson's other losses to Louisville, which is potentially going to look just like that if Louisville loses to Kentucky this weekend. So I think that's a weird spot and I heard Ward Manuel talking about it last night. I think what's going to happen and the Clemson fans are not going to like this. If they beat South Carolina, they're going to get jobbed out of this thing anyway because the committee is going to look at it again and go, oh, we screwed that up and put Alabama Ole Miss ahead of them.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay, why is Alabama ranked ahead of Ole Miss?
Dan Patrick
It's a great question because there's no real head to head to figure out. You know, you've got some common opponents, but that's pretty much it. Ole Miss lost to lsu. Alabama crushed lsu. Alabama narrowly beat Georgia. Ole Miss crushed Georgia. So it's very hard to parse those two. South Carolina beneath those two is easier because South Carolina lost head to head to both of those two. What will get interesting about that Dan though is if South Carolina beats Clemson this weekend, can you put him above Alabama role miss because they lost to him?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Give me the team that is in the playoffs now that won't be in the playoffs once they start.
Dan Patrick
Ooh, that's a great question because it could be somebody who just loses this weekend. That's, that's the thing. There were a couple holy crap games this past weekend and it was Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida. Ole Miss, there's potential for something like that. So I think if Notre Dame lost to usc, I think they'd be out because I think, I think we all need to agree to count Notre Dame's loss to Northern Illinois as two losses because it's that bad. But if it's your only loss, okay, but if you go lose to a five loss USC in addition to losing to Northern Illinois, you probably should be out another one like Tennessee's playing Vanderbilt this weekend. Most years you're like, oh, Tennessee is going to roll over Vanderbilt. This not this Vanderbilt team. This could be a really good game. And this is, this is a scary spot for Tennessee because if Vandy wins, Tennessee's out.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
We also have Maryland against Penn State. That's kind of sneaky good there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I'm not as worried about that because Penn State got their scare against Minnesota last week. I think, I think they're, they match up really well with Maryland. I also, I was very impressed with the way James Frank the end of that game. I kind of like that because I want to see that version of Penn State in the playoff where he's faking a pun. He's going forward on fourth down to salt. The way the game and kind of he, the way he termed it was winning it on their terms. That's how you have to win in the playoff. And that's not something that Penn State has done really a lot in the last few years. So I'm kind of interested to see what they do. I think they're going to be fine. Against Maryland, the other one. That's weird that I'd worry about Dan. Now this, this team could be out with this. If Miami were to lose to Syracuse, the total in that game is like 67 and a half. Seems completely reasonable. This feels like a complete shootout. Miami's defense has been somewhat suspect, but so was Syracuse is. So I think this could be a very high scoring, last team with the ball wins kind of game. If Miami were to lose that game, Dan, they would be out of the ACC championship. Clemson would then get into the ACC championship again against smu. That would be very interesting.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
We're talking Andy Staples. He covers college football for on three Sports. Give me the school that is out of the playoffs. Who will be in the playoffs when they start?
Dan Patrick
Well, right now, if you look at the rankings, all of the Big 12 teams are out. One of them is going to get in. There's four teams, all of which have a chance to make the conference title game, depending on what happens this weekend. And the winner of that conference title game is getting in. So I would say Arizona State and Iowa State I kind of feel the best about. And then those two play. And Arizona State's the hottest team in the league right now. So I think, I think Sparky would be the one that makes it in there.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
What's going to happen to these conference championship games in the future?
Dan Patrick
That's a great question. They've already talked about expanding the playoff to 14 starting in 2026. And I think the reason for that is they want to make sure that the SEC and Big Ten championships have some stakes because those would be the only two buys and you would assume that those are probably going to the Big Ten and SEC champs. So the worry was that both of those games, both those teams are in the playoff. Nobody cares. I mean, you can make a case this year that it's probably better to lose the Big Ten championship and be the five seed than be the one seed. So they don't want that. They don't want to have that happen. So I think that's what you're going to see with those games. Now, this format is great for the Big 12 championship game. It's great for the ACC championship game because those are win and in situations probably now maybe the ACC, they both get and we'll see. But the Big 12 is absolutely going to be the winners in the losers out and that's all. And I think they like to keep it that way because I think that actually makes it the best product. But then the Big Ten and the sec, it's a different story.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Good to talk to you. Happy Thanksgiving. Safe travels this weekend, Andy.
Dan Patrick
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving to all you guys.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Andy Staples on three. He covers college football. He'll be at Texas, Texas A and M. I was looking at the Colorado game because Deion Sanders is upset because Travis Hunter didn't get nominated or win the Jim Thorpe Award, I believe. And Colorado is giving 19 to Oklahoma State. Now here's Dion. Travis Hunter was snubbed for the Jim Thorpe Award. Does that go? Is it nomination, Marvin?
Dan Patrick
Correct. Nominated.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Nominated. And now is that Jim Thorpe is for the best best player, defensive back. Best all defensive back. Okay, here's Deion Sanders.
Dan Patrick
How. How is Travis Hunter snubbed by the Jim Thorpe Award? You can have my award. You can have it back.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Matter of fact, I'm gonna give him mine.
Dan Patrick
I ain't using it just sitting up there collecting dust. So Travis could have my Thorpe Award because if this ain't the most idiotic thing in college football that he's not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and he is, I would say, arguably. But it's. I don't think it's really an argument about this young man being the best defensive back in college football.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay, so he didn't get nominated for best defensive back. I would say there's a legitimate gripe there. And Dion won the award when he was at Florida State. So I'm. Okay. I don't know how big the award is. I'd forgotten what it was or what it was for. I think he's going to be one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy, which seems more important, but I get it. He has a very paternal approach to his players, like a fatherly figure. There's tough love. It's important to have their back, especially college. I don't know if it'd work in the NFL, but this fatherly figure, it works. And he's saying that Travis Hunter. It's embarrassing. It's idiotic that he got snubbed. Yes, Eaton.
Dan Patrick
But how could you be nominated for the Heisman when you weren't nominated for the award? That's in your own position.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yes, Paulie.
Dan Patrick
I could See how this happened because Travis Hunter does not play all the plays at defensive back. Maybe the committee said we're going to lean towards full time all play defensive backs. On the wide receiver award, if he's up for that, he's fifth, tied for fifth in the country in receptions this year and 11 touchdowns. He would definitely be in the mix. So he's like in the mix for both awards. But there's players better than him at those individual positions. Nobody does what he does by playing both, though. That's where the Heisman is his.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I still think Shador Sanders, if I'm voting today, I would give him more credit because what he's done at the quarterbacking position, like he's been this steady person there. Now that offensive line is not good at all. Travis Hunter might be the most talented player in college football. I'll grant you that. Ashton Gentee has had a wonderful year. The problem is he plays for Boise State. He hasn't had a standalone game. He plays on Friday at noon on Fox. He needs a Heisman moment and I don't know if he's going to get it, but he has 2,000 rushing yards. They're in the playoffs like you. Colorado is not even in the playoffs yet. Ashton Gentee has Boise State with a first round buy. Like I gotta factor that in a little bit here. Yes, Marvin, I can see Dion's confusion.
Dan Patrick
Because Travis Hunter is nominated for the Chuck Bed Nick Award, which is the defensive Player of the Year in America.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Maybe we have too many awards because he. Is he up for the Fred B. Award for best receiver? Checking because Alabama and Ohio State have two really good wide receivers. Yes, but you're not even the best.
Dan Patrick
At your own position. But generally, overall, we'll put you in this. That doesn't really add up for me.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
All right, we'll take a break. Ryan Fitzpatrick will join us. We'll talk some NFL with him. We'll talk about Bill Belichick, Bill Belichick's commentary when he says some things. I think it's his delivery that softens what he's saying, but he's been saying some things that certainly caught my ear. We'll talk to Ryan Fitzpatrick about that. We'll take a break. We're back after this.

Couple of phone calls before we talk to Ryan Fitzpatrick, former NFL quarterback Michael in Rochester. Hey, Mike, what's on your mind today?
Dan Patrick
Long time. 510 soft. 175 soft. Just wanted to call in and give thanks to all of you guys for helping me and everybody else listening to, you know, have a great day. You guys make us all laugh. Just wanted to show some appreciation for that. And Fritzie, you're the best man. Keep everybody laughing. Thanks, Michael.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
All right, there's Michael in Rochester, Joe in Indiana. Hi, Joe. What's on your mind tonight?
Dan Patrick
Hi, Dan. First time, Long time. Six four, three hundred. You know, with it being Thanksgiving and everything, I just kind of wanted to call and tell you guys how much I appreciate all of you guys. I lost my dad four years ago and lost two jobs in that time frame as well. And, you know, listening to you guys every day really helped me get through.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
That and helped me put me in a better mental state.
Dan Patrick
Listening to you guys, listening to Todd every day, I kind of realized my life wasn't really all that bad, you know?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Thank you.
Dan Patrick
Wow. So Joe.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Joe lost his dad and two jobs, and his life is better than yours.
Dan Patrick
How about that? God bless him. And even while sitting in all of that misery, he said, but at least I'm not Todd.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
That sounds like a country song. Lost my dad.
Dan Patrick
I think we should write something.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Couple of jobs. But I'm not Todd. At least I'm not pretty.
Dan Patrick
You know what? As long as Joe has a smile on his face, we all win.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Jim in Ohio. Hi, Jim. What's on your mind today?
Dan Patrick
Good morning, Dan. I wanted to wish you guys a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
And I am thankful for the not.
Dan Patrick
So serious content you bring to the show.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Hey, I have a fill in the blank for you guys. Okay? Todd's antics are. Thank you, Jim. That's a call back. Call back to the reporter. I. I don't know who that reporter is. I don't want to know his name. I just don't. I'm not sure if he heard that on our show and how he reacted to it. When he's asking the place kicker for the commanders about missing an extra point and started his question with.
Dan Patrick
Austin, obviously.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
It'S the best. Doesn't it feel like somebody's asking him a question instead of he's asking the question? Because that would be your response. Play it again.
Dan Patrick
Austin, obviously.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I can barely ask this question. It's so good.
Dan Patrick
It's just so good.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Ryan Fitzpatrick. You can see him. Amazon Prime Video Thursday night analyst the Raiders take on the Chiefs. That'll be Black Friday and coverage starts at 3 Eastern only on Prime Videos. We welcome back Ryan Fitzpatrick, former quarterback, Harvard quarterback. Wait, do people mention that? Doesn't seem like they go, oh, Ryan Fitzpatrick, you know, he went to Harvard.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. It's disappointing. Although Harvard just lost to Yale, so I don't really like to talk about Harvard. We did win the I title, but we lost the most important game.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
How long does that stay with you when you lose to Yale?
Dan Patrick
Oh, okay. I say the Harvard thing. You know What? You get 10 games in the Ivy League and there's no chance of playoffs or anything like that. So it's a big deal. I wouldn't know. I was 40 questions for me.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Is there Ivy League smack talk that I'm not aware of?
Dan Patrick
There is, but it's more, you know, the safety school chants are a big one. Yeah, there's, there's a couple bad ones, but they're, they're all pretty. Pretty lame. Pretty lame Ivy League humor.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
What was your safe, safe school?
Dan Patrick
Interesting question. I. It probably would have been, it wouldn't have been another Ivy League school. It would have been walking on to a place like Stanford or Notre Dame or Northwestern or one of those schools.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay. All right. How would you sum up the AFC so far?
Dan Patrick
Well, we'll have Kansas City this week and I can't wait to get a closer look. You know, I was very vocal last year and saying, you know, they needed to lose some games and there's no chance they're going to win the Super Bowl. They lost some games and of course they won the super bowl because as we know, Patrick Mahomes in close games is always going to win it. But I love what Buffalo is doing right now. I think the Texans, they have the team to get hot at the right time, but obviously they're really struggling right now. Pittsburgh we got to see them up close and personal against Cleveland this last week, and they're just. They're not going to have the offense to do it this year. I'm still really intrigued by the Ravens. I think this week will tell us a lot when they're playing against the Eagles and then the Chargers. It's just a very specific way that they have to win football games, which is good for playoff football. But I just don't think they're going to be able to put the pieces together this year on offense.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
All right, State of the nfc.
Dan Patrick
The nfc. I mean, there's some heavyweights, you know, obviously starting with Detroit, and they look, they look pretty unbeatable right now. They've got a great formula, you know, and the teams I like to look at, you know, teams that can run the ball, which they can, but teams that play great defense and can turn the ball over, they can take it away and give it to their offense. And three of the best four in the NFL right now are Detroit, Minnesota and Green Bay. I think the Eagles, we got a close look at them against the commanders, and they can win games in a lot of different ways, just like Detroit can. They can score with anybody. They can play great defense. But I still, Green Bay, to me, is the sleeper team that I absolutely love. I love the way they play. And it's all contingent on Jordan Love, and if he can get hot at the right time, I think they're going to be really tough in the playoffs.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
He's Ryan Fitzpatrick, Amazon Prime Video Thursday night analyst. And you can see the Raiders taking on the Chiefs on Black Friday. Their coverage starts at 3 Eastern only on Prime Video. We hear a lot about organizations, and it's dysfunctional, whether it's the jets or it could be. You know, fill in the blank here. Did you ever feel like you were part of a dysfunctional organization? And if so, how did you know it was dysfunctional?
Dan Patrick
Well, I would say that was pretty much my career. I don't know, just the places I decided to go. But yeah, I think when you have great organizations, then you really start to notice and feel how bad the other ones were. When I was, when I was in Tennessee, it wasn't great. You know, when I was with the jets, it actually wasn't bad. And we've seen the way that's played out these last two years. But Houston, for me, was a good one. Houston, when I got there, saw the way that it was run, the way that they cared for their players. That was one that made me realize Maybe some of the ones I'd had in the past weren't great, you know, Coming up, my first two teams were St. Louis and Cincinnati, and so you don't know any better until you get somewhere else. But I also had a really bad stretch everywhere I went. The owner died shortly thereafter. I had. I mean, it was not a good Georgia frontier, unfortunately. And we had Ralph Winston, then we had Bud Adams, then we had McNair, and it was just a long list. I started looking at myself like, it must be me. But thankfully, the last few survived.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Wow, that's some black humor there. That's dark humor there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Damn. Do you imagine, you know, a coach says, hey, you know what? We could always bring in Ryan Fitzpatrick. And the owner goes, no, no, no, no, we can't bring him in. No, no.
Dan Patrick
Usually that's a different reason.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah. If you had an MVP vote, who would get it?
Dan Patrick
I feel like we struggle every week with recency bias because it was definitely Lamar and then it was definitely Josh, and now after watching Saquon. Holy smokes. I. I still. It's just hard to not give it to a quarterback because of how difficult the position is. So right now, my vote is Josh Allen, but he's going to have to beat Detroit. If he doesn't beat Detroit, then he's not going to have a chance at the mvp.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
What's it like now? You go through your career trying not to say something. Now you're employed to say something, and now your words have meaning, and now people hear it, players hear it. How, you know, tell me about that transition from I don't want to say anything to, you know, upset anybody, to. I might say something that's going to upset somebody.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think as long as it's rooted in the truth, I've kind of come to terms with. It's not. It's not a bad thing to speak your mind if it's rooted in the truth. Now if you've got a personal vendetta and you're going after somebody, which, you know, I. I think Belichick has been awesome to listen to. He. He has been so refreshing and his knowledge and everything he says. But I feel like sometimes there's a different angle that he's playing with some of the comments that he makes about certain people. I think as long as it's rooted in truth, then it's okay that. That I haven't had a problem with it at all. Then there's other situations. I have a very unique perspective. So Daniel Jones, for example, that's something that I live. And I wasn't a franchise quarterback for six seasons, but I had those, those little spurts where I was franchise quarterback. I did get benched. I did have to go into work the next day. So stuff like that becomes easy for me to talk about because of the perspective that I had and some of that experience that I can share with everybody.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay, go back to Belichick. What's the angle that he's playing?
Dan Patrick
Well, I, you know, I think that some of his, some of his comments on Mayo were heavy handed, little heavy handed, maybe because of the way it ended there and how their relationship was at the end. But there's, there's some stuff you can, you can read through the lines a little bit.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
He says so many things, but he doesn't say them in a loud way. We're so used to broadcasters now. Hot take. And I'm going to say it loudly. There's nothing loud about Belichick. So you kind of miss what he's saying or, you know, because of how he's saying it.
Dan Patrick
And there. But there's the thing I love about him is there's purpose behind everything that he says. Like you said, it's not, it's not for the hot take, it's not for the views. There's a purpose behind every little thing that he says, you know, when most of it rooted in truth, some of it rooted in vengeance. But I really have enjoyed. He's been everywhere, but I've enjoyed listening to him a lot.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Did you ask him what was the game plan when you faced me, when he, when he was facing you? Like, I'd be curious. Tell me what the book was on me from Belichick's eyes.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean, I think I know the book. I played him 14 times. You know, it was essentially, let's, let's make this guy make mistakes. We're going to make him beat us. Play tight coverage, take away your best receiver. Whether, you know, it was Brandon Marshall when I was there, devonte Parker, but I had some, some really bad memories versus them. I mean, playing, playing against New England when they were rolling. And then I've had some good ones to three different places. You know, in the AFC East, I was able to beat them and beat Tom, but yeah, 3 and 11 record. I don't, I don't think he.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Happy Thanksgiving to you. And we'll be watching on Black Friday. It'll be the Kansas City Chiefs and the Raiders. Thanks for joining us again, Ryan.
Dan Patrick
All right, thank you. Looking forward to it.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Ryan. Fitzpatrick. Amazon Prime Video Thursday. But they're on Friday afternoon. So Black Friday afternoon. The Raiders and the Chiefs. And the Chiefs are big favorites in that it starts at 3 Eastern only on prime video. I thought it was a good question, but then the way he processed the question about, hey, did you ever ask Belichick, hey, what was the book on me? And then he's going, yeah, I kind of know the book because they did it many, many times to me. Tight coverage make me try to win the game. Oh, time to play guess the NFL news game.
Dan Patrick
Here we go. It's a little fill in the blankish. Former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is going to sign with Blank. I want to sign with Blank. Would you like to go first or last, Dan?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I'll go last, Marvin.
Dan Patrick
Uh, the Raiders. Seaton.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Oh, boy.
Dan Patrick
How about the Seahawks? Baltimore. Ooh, Dan.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Cowboys.
Dan Patrick
Dan Jones plans to sign with the Minnesota Vikings. Okay, Minnesota Vikings.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah, I think that was the strong rumor this earlier in the week. So he said he wanted to go to a playoff contender and that's why he didn't want to go to the Raiders. I don't know if the Cowboys were interested. You're facing the Giants. I don't know if you need Daniel Jones to help you beat the Giants, but I think Baltimore and Buffalo were also in the mix. But I'm just going by what was reported. Yes, Paul.
Dan Patrick
If I told you three years ago that Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones would both be on the Vikings as they make their playoff run. I mean, this league never fails to disappoint.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah, the NFL is undefeated. It is just when you go, well, that can't happen. It just happened. I mean, might as well put Aaron Rodgers on the Vikings, too. I mean, let's just kind of finish this off. All right, let me take a break. We'll look at the schedule this weekend. The NFL and college games, more of your phone calls as well. And Kenny May, the final hour. He's got a documentary on wiffle ball. We're back after this.

Ryan Fitzpatrick
This is one of those quiet signings. The Dodgers have brought in Blake Snell, two time Cy Young winner. It's like, shh. Everybody's talking about Juan Soto.
Dan Patrick
Let's bring in Blake Snell.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
No one will notice. All right, let's see. Time to slide into the weekend. Our great folks at Kings Hawaiian helping you slide into the weekend with a slider Sunday. Make sure you make every Sunday a slider Sunday. Let me look at some of the items here. Eagles at the Ravens. Saucy. I've been saying the Eagles are better than the Ravens and we're going to see what they do. Going head to head. And you get Saquon Barkley, Derek Henry as they go. Well, kind of head to head. Chargers at the Falcons. Falcons got to figure out who they are up here pretty soon. These are two frustrating teams. Atlanta comes off a buy. They lost consecutive games. They lost to the Saints and the Broncos. I thought that they would be the class of this division. College football. Texas, Texas A and M. Whoever wins will clinch a berth in the SEC championship game against Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson. Clemson has to win. South Carolina's won five in a row. Shout out. Darius Rucker. And they're averaging 40 points a game during that winning streak. Tennessee advantage, Diego Pavia and the Commodores. Giant killer before. Can they do that again? That would certainly create a little chaos there. Sliding into the weekend. Kings of Wine get together with family and friends. Enjoy the weekend by making every Sunday a slighter Sunday. Time to play. In or out. You're either in or you're out.
Dan Patrick
Just that simple. Dan.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
All right, Pauling, here we go.
Dan Patrick
These are ideas, concepts, teams, people, whatever. You just say in or out. And you can vamp a little if you want. In or out. On the narrative that the SEC is having a down year.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I'm going to say I'M in on a down year.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I don't think you have a great team. And normally the SEC has a great. At least one great team. Anybody in or out on that? Todd?
Dan Patrick
I am with you. I am in on them having a down year.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Okay, Marvin, that makes three for three. I'm with you also. All right, Paul Seaton.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I'm in. I mean, they're looking at where they could end up with just two teams.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
In the college football playoffs. That is a disaster.
Dan Patrick
That's not even a down year. That's a massive failure.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
It'll be anarchy.
Dan Patrick
That would be down. Down. All right. In or out on Alabama is still a title contender.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Out, out, out.
Dan Patrick
Oh, man. Okay, this was an interesting one. I have a theory behind it. Travis Hunter of Colorado, oddly, cannot lose the Heisman Trophy. Here's my thesis. His story is his vote is what he's getting. He's playing both ways. That's not going to change. He doesn't even have to have great games. The novelty of what he does keeps going. Ashton Gentee could have an off day. Cam Ward of Miami's had an off day. They've. No one's taken it from him. And his story keeps going. He can't lose at this point. In or out?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I am out on the story. Just because if Boise State makes the playoffs and Ashton Gentee continues to put up his numbers, maybe, maybe he would be able to sneak in and win this. Anybody in or out with that story with Travis Hunter? Todd?
Dan Patrick
I'm in on that. I can see him winning the Heisman. And I like Paulie's thesis as the explanation. Since he's playing both sides of the ball, even if he's a little weak on one side, he ends up stepping it up more on the other side.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
So.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
All right, Seaton, so let me just get it clear.
Dan Patrick
If I'm in, that means I think.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
He'S getting the Heisman. Yes.
Dan Patrick
And if I'm out, I think he won't get the Heisman.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I think I'm out. Okay, here we go. This is a biggie. Deion Sanders will sign a big extension at Colorado before the NFL coaching hiring season starts.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I'm in.
Dan Patrick
I'm in. There you go. Here's one. The lions will drop 50 tomorrow against the Bears. I'm in, by the way.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I'm out.
Dan Patrick
I'm out.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Out.
Dan Patrick
Out. Here we go. Two more. It's very weird to have the Raiders versus Chiefs on a Friday afternoon. And I probably would have forgotten about it.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I in that I Would have forgotten about it.
Dan Patrick
I'm in because last year there was an NFL game on Friday afternoon, and I think I tuned in at the end of the second quarter. Okay, Marvin, I'm in.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Also, I think I'm in because we had Ryan Fitzpatrick on. If we didn't have mana be like, oh, damn.
Dan Patrick
So that means you're out. You wouldn't have forgot about it. You're out of the.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I would have forgotten about it.
Dan Patrick
You would have.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I would have. If we didn't have Ryan Fitzpatrick on.
Dan Patrick
So now you will remember it.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Now I remember because we had Ryan Fitzpatrick on.
Dan Patrick
Hence out. Last one. I'd be in favor of completely revamping the Thanksgiving dinner tradition. The food, the entire menu. And are you in or out on that?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I'm out.
Dan Patrick
Some people want to change turkey. There's a lot of anti turkey sentiment in this room today.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Who's anti turkey in here? It's semi overrated.
Dan Patrick
I mean, I think we spent, like, the first hour talking about how we would all take sides over turkey. Yeah, I mean, that's kind of anti turkey sentiment. I mean, and it was, like, universally agreed upon.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah, but that doesn't mean I want to change the menu.
Dan Patrick
That's fair.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I don't really. I mean, I don't want turkey taken off the menu either, but what are.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
You putting on the menu?
Dan Patrick
A completely new thing. What if it was a meatloaf?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
No. God, no. No.
Dan Patrick
You have PTSD for me?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Yes. I don't want meatloaf. Oh, no, it's good. Turkey's good.
Dan Patrick
That's in or out?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
I'm gonna have it twice this week. Yes. Marv, what's the best side for Thanksgiving? Me.
Dan Patrick
What's wrong with you?
Ryan Fitzpatrick
What's on the menu? Well, no, I'm here. I mean, I'm. You want me in there? Me and me. Well, I didn't say it like that. I said me. No, you didn't. No, it wasn't creepy. I did not. I didn't go.
Dan Patrick
Me and on radio, they couldn't see you do the body roll as you did it. You're like me.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Joel and Desmone. Hey, Joel, what's on your mind?

The Dan Patrick Show Episode Summary
Title: Hour 2 – Andy Staples, Ryan Fitzpatrick
Release Date: November 27, 2024
Host/Authors: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
The episode kicks off with Ryan Fitzpatrick sharing his Thanksgiving experiences, highlighting the early preparation by his wife, who made a full turkey dinner ahead of the traditional holiday meal. Fitzpatrick humorously remarks, "We don't have a meat Friday today. Or I should say Friday because we won't be here. But we have a meat ish Wednesday." (00:02). This leads to a lighthearted discussion between Dan Patrick and Ryan about the motivations behind the preemptive turkey dinner, with Dan probing, "Did your wife do the turkey thing as like a test balloon to make sure everything was good ahead of time?" (03:25).
The conversation shifts to college basketball, focusing on Danny Hurley’s coaching demeanor. Ryan comments on Hurley’s theatrical approach, stating, "This is how he coaches it is off-putting it. He's going to be the villain of college basketball." (05:00). Dan and Ryan discuss the balance between tough language and theatrics in coaching, comparing Hurley’s style to other coaches like Coach K and Roy Williams, and debating whether Hurley’s behavior enhances or detracts from his team’s image.
Andy Staples joins the discussion to analyze the latest college football rankings. Dan expresses concern over Clemson’s placement at number 12, questioning the committee’s decisions: "If Clemson beats South Carolina, they're going to get jobbed out of this thing anyway because the committee is going to look at it again." (09:03). The trio delves into the complexities of ranking teams like Alabama and Ole Miss, especially in head-to-head scenarios. They debate potential playoff scenarios, highlighting key matchups and the impact of upcoming games on team standings.
Ryan brings up the controversial snubbing of Travis Hunter for the Jim Thorpe Award, criticizing the decision: "I don't think it's really an argument about this young man being the best defensive back in college football." (16:00). The hosts debate the legitimacy of Hunter’s exclusion and its implications for his potential Heisman Trophy candidacy. Ryan humorously suggests giving his own Thorpe Award to Hunter, emphasizing the perceived oversight in the awards process.
The show features heartfelt listener call-ins, where fans express gratitude towards the show, sharing personal struggles and how the program has helped them. For instance, Joe from Indiana shares, "I lost my dad four years ago and lost two jobs in that time frame as well. Listening to you guys every day really helped me get through." (23:20).
Dan and Ryan provide an in-depth analysis of the current NFL season, evaluating team performances in both the AFC and NFC. Dan praises teams like Detroit, Minnesota, and Green Bay in the NFC, while critiquing the AFC's lack of cohesive offensive strategies. Ryan adds insights on coaching strategies, specifically addressing Bill Belichick’s nuanced commentary style: "He doesn't say them in a loud way. We're so used to broadcasters now. Hot take. And I'm going to say it loudly." (33:39).
The hosts engage in interactive games such as "In or Out," where they debate current sports and Thanksgiving traditions. Topics include the SEC's performance, Alabama’s title contention, and hypothetical changes to Thanksgiving menus. For example, Dan posits, "Devon Hunter is nominated for the Chuck Bed Nick Award, which is the defensive Player of the Year in America," leading to a spirited debate on Hunter’s potential Heisman win.
As the episode winds down, Dan promotes upcoming segments, including Kenny May’s documentary on wiffle ball and previews for the next hour featuring more listener interactions and sports analysis.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (00:02): "We have a meat ish Wednesday. Sausage or bacon, egg and cheese, bagels and hash browns. Who has it better than we do? Nobody."

Ryan Fitzpatrick (05:00): "He's going to be the villain of college basketball."
Andy Staples (09:03): "If Clemson beats South Carolina, they're going to get jobbed out of this thing anyway because the committee is going to look at it again."
