You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Hour 2 on this Thursday, Dan and the Danette Stan Patrick show talks in football. Ross Tucker, our good buddy, will stop by in a little bit. Former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett now working with NBC Sports Football Night in America. He will join us as well. You can dial us up 877-3-DP Show. Tyler will take your phone calls. Email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle the DPShow just got this that Justin Fields has been injured at the jets practice. He was carted off, he threw a pass, started limping off and they took him off on a cart. And no more injury updates. As far as details with that, we'll keep you posted. But he was carted off. It was a non contact injury to his right leg but that's according to Adam Schefter Poll question for hour two is going to be what seaton and give us the results from hour one if you can. Yeah, we put a couple up there for our one. We have up there your policy on rookie quarterbacks. You start them or sit them. 63% of the audience sit them. Will Nick Saban ever coach again? Most people believe no. If he was to coach again, will it be in the NFL or college football. That one's more interesting. That's 50. 50 people are split between the NFL and college football. And if Nick Saban will ever coach again. Yeah, I don't think he coaches in college again, but the NFL, I could see that maybe he might have that urge to do it, but maybe it's just passing, just a passing urge there. Or maybe laying the groundwork there for the Cleveland Browns. And if that's the case, Colin Cowherd had that, calling it one of the worst kept secrets in the South. Now this came out initially with Greg McElroy, the former Alabama quarterback, now an analyst. He started talking about. He had a good source who was telling him and it might have been Lane Kiffin, because Kiffin has now come out and said he thinks that Nick Saban's going to coach again. So maybe that's where his source is. But both said that they thought that Saban would be coaching or they heard that he might be coaching again. And is it going to be in the NFL? Well, the NFL is tricky and coaching for that owner. And if it's tied to Arch Manning, because that's what Colin was saying, that it's kind of a package deal. The Browns do have two first round draft picks, but you have to get the number one pick. How many number one picks, first round picks are you going to give up to get Archman? If you're, if you don't have the number one pick, what's it going to cost you to get Arch Manning? Four number one picks. I mean, we've, we've seen what teams, you know, will give up to move up in the draft. You know, even to get Trey Lance or Mitchell Trubisky. What are you going to, I mean, it's going to cost you a ton. Does Saban want to give up all of that to get Arch Manning? Does the Manning family want Arch to go and play for that owner in Cleveland, Jimmy Haslam? I think they're just too many. I don't know about this or that has to happen for this to happen, but until Saban says otherwise, I guess we have to be open to the possibility. Yes, Marsh, but why are we giving Arch Manning the title of the number one pick in the draft? He's played maybe two games at Texas. Is it just because of pedigree alone? Yes, I would say that has a lot to do with it. If you know his name was Jimmy Lipper, then he's probably not going to be projected as that guy's going to be guaranteed number one pick overall. Yeah, Seaton Marvin. Took the words right out of my mouth. The kid hasn't even played yet. Really? We're getting him to the Browns to trade four draft picks to get Nick Saban in to do all this. And the Mannings because of Haslam in Tennessee and all this stuff. The kid hasn't even played yet. I know, but that why be a buzzkill? That's what we're trying to fill. You know, we are filling July right now. That is true. You're right, we are. We're just filling July because everything we're talking about makes00 sense from a football standpoint. July programming on sports radio.
Marvin Harrison
Yes, Paul, it does seem destiny because of the Manning name. I mean Eli Manning, his college career was good. He had a really nice college career. He was the number one overall draft pick. It wasn't really even a question. He didn't raise Ole Miss to some heights or have monstrous stats or win back to back Heismans. He went number one because of the safety of the Manning name at the quarterback position. It's a risk free draft pick. Bonus coverage here. The Browns have two first round draft picks next year, their own and the Jaguars. So they have two chances for the number one pick.
Paul Pabst
Okay, well I think Jacksonville is going to be better. They better be better. The Browns, you know they'll be in the running for worst team in the NFL. I'm going to guess what's, what's the over under? Can we find out? DraftKings over under with the Cleveland Browns because it can't be more than five and a half. Four and a half maybe for Cleveland win total. Yeah.
Marvin Harrison
Paulie, the Cleveland Browns had the worst win loss over under for the upcoming season at four and a half wins. Okay, the other teams in the mix there are the Saints, the Giants, the jets and the Titans with five and a half wins.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. If you're the Manning family, they live in New Orleans. His grandfather lives in New Orleans. When you want him to go to the Saints, the hometown team. So they're gonna, they're gonna have a say in this as well. Yeah, Seaton, at this point in their college careers, Eli Manning had already played five more games than Arch. Okay. Yeah.
Marvin Harrison
Paul, by the way, if I'm Arch Manning, I'm staying at Texas as long as I can. I'll stay three more years.
Paul Pabst
That's another thing that nobody's factoring in. I don't see Arch Manning coming out this year. Money is not the issue. If the Cleveland Browns are on the clock. Does that make you want to Go to the NFL. Now, if New Orleans, If New Orleans has the number one pick, then I could see Arch Manning doing that. But I. It's not a given that he'll. Unless he wins the Heisman and they win the national title. And even then he might go, man, this is pretty good. I'm having fun. Texas has done great recruiting, surrounded him. He's helped out recruiting players. I, I could see him, you know, being there for two more years. Yeah.
Marvin Harrison
Paulie, he has the best quarterback gig in the state of Texas. Pro or college, that's a perfect gig. Everybody wants Texas. Everyone in that state. Roots for Texas. Well, A and M, Yes.
Paul Pabst
Marvin. Yeah. And he might have a higher salary at Texas than he will. There's a rookie in the NFL, more fans at the game. But money's not the issue. Money, money won't be the issue for him where he'll be like, yeah, I gotta go. And he might like the college life. He might realize that he needs to have more starts before he goes to the NFL. But I, I don't think the, you know, hey, the Browns are on the clock. Isn't that enticing? I don't think so. Hey, Nick Saban could be coaching the Browns. Okay. I, you know, trying to understand what a 20 year old is, you know, factoring in here, but he's going to get all this advice from whether it's his grandfather or his uncles or his dad, Steve Sarkeesian, you know, I see him stay in another year. Speaking of quarterbacks, Joe Burrow, it feels like the last couple of years, he gets in front of the media at this time of the year and has to talk about the players who aren't in camp. And Joe Burrow did that yesterday. Yeah. Obviously disappointing.
Marvin Harrison
You know, you'd like to have, have.
Paul Pabst
All your guys out there day one to try to, to build that cohesion that I was talking about earlier. But that's, it's not how it usually works out. You know, it's a business. And that is how it's gone. Okay. He probably said this last year. Probably say it next year. Obviously, we'd like to have everybody in camp. It's a distraction, but it's a business. And be nice to have everybody here.
Marvin Harrison
It's like Mad Libs. You plug in a player name. I really hope that. Who is it this year? It's T. Higgins. I really hope T. Higgins gets fit. No, no, it's Hendrickson. I really hope Hendricks. Whatever.
Paul Pabst
Here's Russell Wilson now with the Giants. But doesn't matter what team he's on, he usually says the same things. I'm always just focused on being the best version of me day. I, you know, for me, you know, my mentality is always to be the best in the world. You know, I don't. I don't know anything else other than that. Just trying to have that mentality and helping our football team win. You know, I think that's the big thing that I'm really highly focused on is, is elevating our practice, elevating our play, elevating our mentality and having a championship mentality daily. Different uniform, same Russ, just. He sounds like a life coach there. Just trying to, you know, give you a better version of me every single day. That's what I'm doing to a Tonga Bialoa. He, wow. He tiptoed close to the fire here. His relationship with Tyree Kill, and I was kind of surprised, but maybe it talks about, you know, Tua wanting to be the leader in Miami. And, you know, Tyree Kill is. Had a lot of these little hints or, hey, I'm out of here, or, you know, some, you know, emojis where you're trying to read between the lines with that. But Tua was asked about his relationship with Tyreek Hill. When you say something like that, it's. You don't just come back from that with, hey, my bad.
Ross Tucker
You know, you got.
Paul Pabst
You got to work that, that relationship up. You got to build everything up again.
Ross Tucker
And it's still a work in progress, not just for me, but for everybody. But, you know, like I said, he's.
Paul Pabst
He's working on himself. He's working on the things that he say.
Ross Tucker
You know, he says he wants to get better with and do better on.
Paul Pabst
That's the first step to me.
Ross Tucker
And so I commend him for doing that.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. And Tyreek seems to be, it feels like more motivated in trying to be, you know, beat Noah Lyles, you know, in the 100 meter dash. That seems to be more important than football. And he did say last year, I'm out. And I think that's what two is talking about. Like, you got to kind of earn your way back into this locker room. So I'm. I mean, I'm fine with him doing that. Like, there's accountability here, and if you want to be that leader and you're asking Tyree Kill to be all in, then I. It's one of those that. Did you have the conversation with him privately? Like, that's. That would. If I'm a member of the media, I would say, how much have you discussed this with Tyree Kill? Because if he says, yeah, I have talked to him about that. Because I don't like when somebody says something in a. In a press conference that they didn't say privately to somebody. But if you do that and you have that kind conversation, then you don't blindside somebody. You're like, yeah, we've had conversations. He's got to earn our trust, and he's working on himself. Yes. Marv, if you're an organization, do you like the Russell Wilson approach, where it's very cliche, or do you like the.
Ross Tucker
Two where you know what I'm going to say?
Paul Pabst
We'll come to the top of my head. I think if you're good with what you say with the media and it's not misinterpreted, or you may say something that you regret or it's taken out of context, like, those are all really tricky. I mean, you want goodwill going in to training camp. You want everybody. You know, it's. It's great. We feel great. We got a chance to be something special this year. Whatever, you know, your motivation is or how you're going to proclaim that. I mean, Russ doesn't really say anything. That's why when he came on the show after the super bowl and said, you know, it's basically me or Pete Carroll, you know, one of us is going to be out in Seattle, that's what shocked everybody, because that was the real Russell Wilson. He gave you something. You're like, whoa, wait a minute. What? And we saw what happened after that. Russ doesn't say anything, and that's on purpose. But to him, I'm going to give him credit because it is an issue there. And I have no problem with if he's saying that. And he's had the conversation with Tyree Kill. Yes, Todd, the media wants to. The front office loves Russ Wilson. Saying a bunch of nothing is great for them. We don't say anything at. Yeah, probably right. It's like two keep talking. Meanwhile, the ownership of the Giants, it's like, hey, Russ, good job today at the press conference. You said absolutely nothing. Congratulations. All right, so we have a poll question for our two seton on your birthday. 89. Oh, my gosh.
Marvin Harrison
Now, that doesn't help.
Paul Pabst
You know, I see Yukon fan Marvin loves to wave his rings around right in front of me. Wow. Okay, Marvin, tell us about how great it is. Not cool. Not cool, man.
Ross Tucker
I say you guys should have won.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, okay. I know we should have won. You Know that that broke his heart. Marvin, Happy birthday. Seaton. What's. Poll question for hour two. Why is Marvin so mean? Oh, here's four options for you. Who is the meanest? Danette.
Marvin Harrison
Currently.
Paul Pabst
Yes, currently as in why?
Dan Patrick
Why the.
Paul Pabst
Why saying currently the meanest? Because it's Marvin in this moment. Because McLovin wasn't mean. Nah, he wasn't mean. He was calculated. He was. Yeah, he was calculating. He was good at playing dumb. He was good at playing dumb, and he wasn't mean. However, he could, out of nowhere, verbally punch you square in the face and be like, oh, my God, what the hell just happened? Wow. Where did that come from?
Marvin Harrison
Yeah, McLovin wasn't chronically mean, but he could have moments, usually when he was hungry, but he would say things like, whoa, where'd that guy come from? And then the next week, it'd be nothing, nothing, nothing.
Paul Pabst
I remember we had a meat Friday, and he complained that the meat didn't fall off the bone. And I went, I need to punch you in the face.
Marvin Harrison
I think he said, dan, if I remember right, there's slabs and slabs of gorgeous ribs out there. And he said something like, not your best work. And I was like, oh, yeah, yeah.
Paul Pabst
The meat's not falling off the bone. How about some meat falls off your bones here in a moment. Yes. Todd, didn't you also slap him on the wrist? Cause he was. He wanted to eat early or he was eating early. And then he accused you. He was like, why did you get a chance to eat before me? Oh, he snuck out on a meat Friday, and I caught him because we have cameras all over the place. I said, hey, what are you doing? He goes, well, you had some. I go, it's my effing show. And then he goes, okay. He got scolded. I said, don't eat the food until we reveal it on the show. And he's out there sneaking. I went, golly, yes, Marvin. So currently, the meanest dinner is the Danite that's not here anymore. I would say Paul probably has the potential to be the meanest reigning champion.
Marvin Harrison
I mean, over the past decades.
Paul Pabst
I gotta admit it here. I don't know why we're being so disrespectful to Paul. It should be called the Paul Pabst Meanest Danette Award. And then try to figure out which the three of us are generally nice people. I. You know, which one of us is the meanest right now? It's kind of Marvin. Some days it's me. Some days that is The Paul Pabst Award.
Marvin Harrison
Yeah, it's the Michael Jordan.
Paul Pabst
Not even close.
Marvin Harrison
He didn't win MVP every year. Michael Jordan. You look for a new story.
Paul Pabst

From. Iheart Podcasts and Rococo Punch. This is the turning river road. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. Why did I think that way? Why did I allow myself to get so sucked in by this man and thinking to the point that if I died for him, that would be the greatest honor. But in 2014, the youngest of the girls escaped and sparked an international manhunt. For all those years, you know, he was the predator and I was the prey. And then he became the prey. Former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett will join us coming up in an hour from now. More phone calls as well. 877-3-DP show. He' good, buddy. He's Ross Tucker, host of the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, calls games for CBS in Westwood One. He's available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, whatever it is. Ross will come by and entertain the kids with football stories as he joins us now. Great to see you, Ross. We talked a little bit about Nick Saban and the suggestion that maybe he could come back to the NFL and to be specific, come back to the Browns and try to pair him with Arch Manning. Seems like a lot connecting the dots there for all of that to happen. But let's just talk about the likelihood that Saban would come back, but he would coach in the NFL.
Ross Tucker
I think it's unlikely. I mean, it's possible, I guess, Dan, if it's the perfect situation. But I think he retired for a reason. It certainly seems like he's loving being on ESPN and college game day. He looks like he's having the time of his life, and I don't blame him. It's kind of a great way to segue after your coaching career. You know, maybe if there was a perfect NFL situation, he would come and try to show that he can succeed at that level. I know I've always kind of thought there's always this talk, Saban's the goat, Belichick's the goat. Obviously, one did it in college, one did in the NFL. You know, maybe that, maybe that's why they, they're, they're, they're switching sides here in their 70s. Right. Maybe Belichick wants to prove he can win in college, and then maybe Saban wants a second chance in the NFL so that they can settle once and for all who's really the better football coach.
Paul Pabst
Well, more likely to coach in the NFL, Belichick or Saban.
Ross Tucker
Oh, that is a good one. I think I'm still going to say Belichick because it's very clear and obvious that he still wants to do that.
Paul Pabst
Right.
Ross Tucker
I don't think anybody out there believes that Belichick would have taken the North Carolina job if he had any NFL opportunity. I don't really care what he says publicly or privately. I believe that he wants to be an NFL head coach. I think he wants to break Don Shul his record. I think we all know he wants to break Don Shul his record. And perhaps go North Carolina for a year coaching there. Maybe he can do enough there to generate interest to get another NFL opportunity. But in my mind, Dan, we know for a fact Belichick wants to be a head coach in the NFL. We don't even know if Saban wants to coach again, period. So I'll go Belichick all day on that one.
Paul Pabst
I'm trying to understand the logic with NFL owners. By the way, I saw the revenue split. So the team split over $13 billion and the packers have to reveal their rev share. It was $432 million that these teams got. So Jerry Jones, with his situation, now he has a salary cap to deal with. So it's not like he's the Dodgers and he can pay whatever he wants. But help me understand the logic behind what's going on with Micah Parsons and his contract.
Ross Tucker
You know, the first thing I would say, Dan, that's interesting since you referenced the Packers. They have that mandatory retirement age for their team president of 70, you know, and Mark Murphy, I think this is his last week or whatever. He's been the team president. I always think about that when on the same day Mike Brown at age 89 and Jerry Jones at age 82 are making comments that don't really help them or their franchise. You know, I guess I think of it this way, Dan. My grandpa is one of my favorite people in the world that I ever had in my life. I wouldn't have wanted him speaking publicly after age 80. And I don't know if, you know, some of these guys. I don't know if Jerry Jones is just. Maybe they're just at the age where they just don't care, you know, like they're in their 80s. But Jerry Jones is out here saying, well, yeah, you want us to do these contracts early. We did Trayvon Diggs and Terrence Steele, and you saw how that went. And then he says, we made Dak the highest paid guy. He missed 2/3 of the season. We could sign Micah, but he missed four. I mean, Jerry Jones just doesn't care at all. He's just putting it out there. I've come to the conclusion this, Dan. I think there's. There's two reasons. Because I have racked my brain to try to understand the logic of why the Cowboys operate the way they do contractually with their star players. I think there's two things. One is risk slash liability, right? As soon as you give that guy the huge deal, then the injury risk and the off field risk really falls on the team. More than the player. And I think Jerry Jones is on some level willing to pay to just put that risk on the player as long as possible. What if Micah Parsons gets hurt on the field or off the field? What if he gets in trouble? Right. The only other rookie other than Stewart that hasn't signed a contract yet is Brown's running back, Quinshon Judkins because of that domestic battery arrest down in Florida. You know, maybe that maybe they're waiting till the last possible second. The other thing is, and we know this, Jerry realized a few years ago that nothing generates attention during training camp like a star player holdout. It's the top of every website every day. The latest thing that Jerry said about Micah's contract or that Micah Parsons said to the media, you know, if you tried to calculate the, the free publicity, the free PR that the Cowboys get every day that Mike is not signed, it probably helps to make up for what they're going to have to pay them, which is more. The problem is, and Cowboys fans know this, waiting this long makes you pay more, eats up more. The salary cap, it's not good for the team. It's not good for the football product on the field, even if maybe it's beneficial for the business off the field.
Paul Pabst
Then you got the Bengals situation, by the way, those are all fair points that you made there. The Bengals situation, you have an owner who inherited a football team and he is now saying that Trey Hendrickson shouldn't be so emotional when it comes to his contract. And then he gets emotional talking about the first round pick, Shemar Stewart, who's not in camp, and that, you know, this, I forget what the word was, but foolishness. So he's getting animated while complaining about Trey Hendrickson getting animated. And then the Shemar Stewart logic here of, hey, they want to put language in there that if I violate the, you know, code of conduct policy, then they're not going to pay me. And then Mike Brown says, we don't want to pay somebody who's going to be in jail. So if I'm Shemar Stewart, don't I have enough confidence in myself that I won't end up in jail? Therefore, I don't need that language there. Get paid, get in camp, stay out of jail. That's not asking too much, is it?
Ross Tucker
You know, there's a lot of good stuff there. Dan. Let's start with Mike Brown and what he said about emotional. Because that reminds me of when, one of the times when I got cut during my career, someone was saying, like, it's not personal. You know, this is just part of the business. And I said it's not personal. You kind of just fired me. Like. Like, this is my life. This is my dream. I've been doing this since I was five. You kind of just fired me. It's gonna be in the COVID paper of my hometown newspaper. Like, there's nothing more personal than this. Like, this is. Like, it's as personal as it gets. So I always laugh at that part of it. I'll say two things on, on the Bengals, because these are two separate issues, right? The Trey Hendrickson thing, you know, Dan, he signed a band aid extension two years ago where he tacked on that extra year, right? He otherwise would have been a free agent this year. And I think he and his representatives should have realized that it's the Bengals, right? Like, they're gonna do what they can contractually and hold your feet to the fire. He shouldn't have done that band aid a couple years ago if he didn't want to. And I have no idea why any of these guys hold out anymore. He's costing himself $50,000 a day. And the Bengals are not the type of organization that's going to make up for that with the contract that they give you. You know, there's other guys out there. Micah Parsons isn't practicing right now. He says his back is tight or whatever, right? We've seen guys hold in in recent years. Brandon Ayuk, Jamar Chase. Last year, remember the first few days last year training camp? Tuatanga Violoa and Jordan Love were both holdings. So why guys like Hendrickson or McLaurin just throw away 50k per day is beyond me. I. I don't, I don't understand the logic there. Report you're actually more of a distraction if you're there and you're talking to the media every day and you say your hamstring hurts or your back hurts or whatever. The steward thing, which I think the Bengals don't realize is he's gonna sign a four year, fully guaranteed contract. He's not eligible for a new deal regardless until after his third year, right? So whatever he's missing right now, he missed the off season, he's missing training camp. The Bengals have Joe Burrow and these two star receivers in their prime. In my opinion, Dan, it's actually more critical or there should be a greater sense of urgency for the Bengals to get Shemar Stewart in and get him ready to contribute this year after their defense was horrendous last year than it is for Shemar Stewart. I mean, the reality is he could do nothing the next two years, but if his third year he balls out, well, then he's going to get a new contract. So the, the onus to me to get Stewart in is on the Bengals. If this contract language is that important to them, then bump up his signing bonus. They like to give him half now and half in six months. Throw him a bone. Here's half now. We'll give the other half in a month. Sign this thing that says if you go to jail, we don't have to pay you.
Paul Pabst
I don't know if you saw the news. Justin Fields was carted off practice with the jets today. And I don't know the severity of this. I'm waiting for Shefty to have an update on this, but Kirk Cousins is going to be in play at some point to some team, it feels like now. Once again, I don't know the injury in the severity of that, but it just feels like Kirk Cousins is in the on deck circle for now. I don't know if the jets say we're willing to bring in somebody like that with the amount of money that they're probably going to have to pay, it's probably going to have to be a team that, you know, they're going to be a playoff team if they lose, you know, a starting quarterback. But I'm not sure if the jets would have Kirk Cousins in play or the number of teams that would be considering Kirk Cousins. What do you think?
Ross Tucker
Well, yeah, it's a great point, Dan and I, you know, no matter how severe the injury is to Fields, I'll actually give the Atlanta Falcons some credit for hanging on to Cousins and not kind of selling low during the off season because an injury like this, you know, the, the jets are. If he's out for the year, the jets are not going to go into the season with the other guys they have on the roster right now as their starter. Right? It's not. They're not going to have that be the case. So that makes Kirk Cousins very much in play because remember this, right? Aaron Glenn, new head coach, Muji, the new gm. They're trying to establish their culture. It's a new regime and I think they want to get off to a good start in terms of having a solid season and winning, and Cousins would give them that opportunity. The flip side, which is fascinating, okay, is that it's supposed to be a really good draft for quarterbacks. We know all the guys, Arch Manning and Nussmeyer and Drew Aller and all the names that are out there. You know, maybe there's a case to be made where the jets say, oh, it's tough luck with Fields, and, you know, there's nobody else really out there. We got to go with these guys. And then maybe the jets get the number one pick in the draft and they have their pick of what's supposed to be a really good draft class. There's really two ways they could go. They could go the Cousins or maybe try to sign Ryan Tannehill, who, I think we all forgot, just didn't play football last year. Maybe they go that route to try to still be competitive this year. Or maybe they use this as an excuse to throw their hands up and play a little Moneyball, if you will, and get the number one overall pick.
Paul Pabst
Why is it next year's draft is always the best draft for quarterback? Right. Because next year, you know why?
Ross Tucker
Because we haven't picked these guys apart yet. Right? Like, you only pick the guys apart that are in that year's class. Then it's when it's the next year, you think, oh, man, I saw Aller do this against Oregon. I saw that him do that. I saw Nuss Meyer do this. But then when you just are like, when they're the guy the next year and we all watch him every week and really critique them, then you start to find the flaws and the warts. But we're not at that stage yet. That'll happen about midway through this year. There will start to be some reports. You know, he's really not as good as we thought he was.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. A friend of mine who's a scout, he always laughs, you know, when I do, you know, have draft analysts on and. Because he knows that once they get their hands on somebody, like, that's. That's the real stuff. The other stuff is just sort of, hey, I think this guy's got, you know, a great high upside. You know, he does this and that, and the. The scouts go in there and go, okay, guys, you guys done? Now let. Let us go to work. And then all of a sudden we go, you know, such and such is slipping. We. Well, maybe he was put up too high to begin with because the scouts wouldn't have put him up there or somebody's rising. It just like that happened with Mahomes when my friend said, after we sat down with him, then all of a sudden we realized that if we're going to go get him, we're going to have to trade up to get this guy. And he Said, you know, they didn't get the Mahomes in Kansas City. But he said, you know, that's when you realize, like, oh, my gosh, it's. It's like when Jerry west worked out Kobe and he said, no, no, we're going to shut it down. Wait, he's only been working out 15 minutes. We've seen enough. We don't want anybody to realize just how good this kid is, you know.
Ross Tucker
Dan, it happened this off season. That's exactly what happened with Shador Sanders and Tyler Schuck. I mean, in November, Shador Sanders was going to be the number one or number two pick, and nobody even knew who Tyler Schuck was. He's the kid that gets injured all the time. That used to be at Oregon. But then when the scouts got in there and really watched the tape and then when they met with them, Chuck went like this and Shador went like this. And hand signals are not great for radio. So I will tell everybody that Chuck shot up and Shador Sanders went down.
Paul Pabst
Great to catch up with you. We'll talk soon. Thank you.
Ross Tucker
Always sounds great. Thanks, Dan.

That's Ross Tucker, the Ross Tucker football podcast, and he calls games for CBS in Westwood 1. We love, you know, when the draft analyst and, you know, guys are going to put up, you know, these pages, social media, we eat it up. You know, we love it. We like the speculation. Hey, give me the mock draft for this year. You can already find mock drafts. But I don't know how good Arch Manning is. I now I know how good we're told he is or I saw glimpses of that, but I don't, I don't know. You know, he was talking about Chuck, who's going to start for the New Orleans Saints. You know, my source said when he once again, they realized how bright he was, that, yes, there's injuries, but they, they realized how bright he was. When they throw a play out or explain what you did on this play or explain what is happening on this play. They said that that's what really stood out. He could make the throws. Yes, he's a little bit older, but you could give him a game plan right away and that stood out and he'll end up being probably the starting quarterback for the Saints. We have update on Justin Fields injury. We'll also play an NFL game. Right. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. For my heart podcasts and Rococo Punch, this is the turning river road. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. Why did I think that way? Why did I allow myself to get so sucked in by this man and thinking to the point that if I died for him, that would be the greatest honor? But in 2014, the youngest of the girls escaped and sparked an international manhunt. For all those years, you know, he was the predator and I was the prey. And then he became the prey. Tirerack.com the way tire buying should be got an update. This is for me in Rapoport. Justin Fields, who left training camp practice today, he was carted off after suffering a lower leg injury. According to head coach Aaron Glenn, it is a toe injury. Glenn indicated that he believes somebody stepped on Justin Fields foot. So I guess that's good news. We don't know the severity of the toe injury, but it's not a knee. But we'll see when he's able to return to training camp.
Marvin Harrison
Yes, Paul, there are certain words on injury reports or news reports that really get you nervous. Carted off. The phrase carted off really makes you nervous. They could have just carted him to the trainer because it's far and it's hot. He just didn't, you know. And a toe injury. A toe injury, because it's a small body part, it doesn't sound like a big deal, but it could be a really bad injury.
Paul Pabst
Unless you get turf toe, because players will tell you about turf toe. I know it. It doesn't sound that threatening, but, you know, it ended. I think Jack Lambert's career. Dion dealt with it. Dion's still dealing with it. But, yeah, I think that that's. There's always that possibility of turf toe. You know, when somebody says, how'd your career end? Turf toe, huh? Yeah. It's like, how did Plantar fasciitis. Well, that cost Todd his. That's right. Hey, that's a lot tougher than you think. Yes. Yes. Todd, I think you got to say he was driven over or escorted to the sidelines so people don't panic right away, to Paulie's point, because that card thing sounds like, oh, my God, is he gonna miss weeks one through nine now because he had to be carried off the field or carted off the field. And even with carried or carded is just terrible. Okay, but he was taken away on a cart. So he was carted off.
Ross Tucker
He was helped over to the sideline.
Paul Pabst
Just until you find out more things about it. Why panic everybody? Because we're the media. Yes, yes, Paul.
Marvin Harrison
Even the way you said it, taken away on a cart. I'm like, oh, well, of course he'd be taken away in a cart. He's the quarterback.
Paul Pabst
And.
Marvin Harrison
But carted off.
Paul Pabst
It's like, yeah, all right, we have an NFL game. I don't know what the NFL game is, but, Paulie, you're here to tell me.
Marvin Harrison
Here it is. Dan. I was thinking about this. The NFL team. You're most curious to see how they're going to do this year, good or Bad. I'll go first and give you an example. I'm very curious to see what the Las Vegas Raiders do this year. They have a new head coach in Pete Carroll who has a great track record. Geno Smith is a good quarterback. They bring in Ashton Genty and he's going to get a lot of run that establishes a running game. Brock Bowers was super last year. They appears they have a good offense and a good defense and nobody's talking about them. So I'm curious about the Raiders.
Paul Pabst
Okay, Todd, who are you curious about? I am extremely curious about the Pittsburgh Steelers. Is this going to be amazing thing? Is this going to be a disaster? I don't see it going in the middle ground. Even though the Steelers have been that average nine win team. What is going to happen to the Steelers with Aaron Rodgers this year? All right, Seaton, who were you curious about? I'm curious about the Arizona Cardinals. They were like 4:13 there then they doubled their win total last year and Kyler Murray is healthy. Feel like they've maybe upgraded a couple of pieces there. This might be the first time in a while we're getting a true sense of what the Cardinals and Kyler Murray are like. Well, I thought that Marvin Harrison Jr. III was going to be a guy who got 100 catches maybe maybe year two. Marvin, who are you curious about? I'm curious about the Atlanta Falcons with Michael Penix Jr. At the helm now I think Kyle Pitts, I thought he was going to be a position life changer. Drake London, Bijan Robinson, I think they got a lot of talent but I would love to see what Pennix Jr does for them at quarterback. All right. Those are all great curiosities these. I'm curious about the Jacksonville Jaguars and you got a new coach who did wonders with Baker Mayfield in Tampa as offensive coordinator and can he help? Are we going to see the full potential of Trevor Lawrence? Like we're getting to the point where you go, I don't know. And maybe this is the year there's some magic there. You know they, I thought that they were going to win that division last year. I, I thought that they had the talent to do that. Thought the Texans would take a little bit of a drop there but man hasn't happened. They're probably still in the the after stink of Urban Meyer there. It feels like like you can't blame him now. Yes.
Marvin Harrison
Paulie, bonus pick. How about the Seattle Seahawks? Bucks 107 last year they bring in Sam Darnold and let Geno Smith go. Which direction Will it go better or worse?
Paul Pabst
You lose DK Metcalf. Yeah. Yes. Todd, what should the curiosity level be of the Detroit Lions after the way things went so horribly at the end? Can they shake that off and bounce back? They're still a great team, but what will be of the lines, especially the first few weeks of the season? All right, thank you, Todd. You're welcome, Todd. Got a bonus Curiosity Team. Final hour on the way on this Thursday. Jason Garrett, former coach. He'll join us. Hope you'll stay with us. Fritzi Seaton, Marv Pauley, yours truly.

Notable Quote:
Dan Patrick: "Justin Fields was carted off, he threw a pass, started limping off, and they took him off on a cart."
[05:50] Paul Pabst:
Dan and Paul discuss the implications of this injury, noting the lack of detailed updates and the uncertainty surrounding Fields' recovery timeline.
[06:10] Paul Pabst:
Paul shares the results from a poll question posed in the previous hour regarding rookie quarterbacks:
[07:00] Discussion on Nick Saban's Coaching Future:
Dan, Paul, and guest Ross Tucker delve into the speculation surrounding Nick Saban's potential return to coaching, specifically in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns alongside Arch Manning.
Notable Quotes:
Ross Tucker: "I don't think he coaches in college again, but the NFL, I could see that maybe he might have that urge to do it."
Paul Pabst: "Colin Cowherd called it one of the worst kept secrets in the South."
[08:22] Ross Tucker:
Ross elaborates on the buzz about Arch Manning possibly being drafted first overall, questioning whether his pedigree is overshadowing his actual performance on the field.
[08:51] Paul Pabst:
Paul adds that the Browns possess two first-round picks, which could be significant in securing Arch Manning. He critiques the idea of trading multiple first-round picks for a quarterback who hasn't fully proven himself.
[09:54] Marvin Harrison:
Marvin emphasizes the importance of Arch Manning staying at Texas to further develop his skills before entering the NFL draft.
Notable Quote:
Marvin Harrison: "If I'm Arch Manning, I'm staying at Texas as long as I can. I'll stay three more years."
[12:01] Paul Pabst:
The conversation shifts to Russell Wilson's leadership and his relationship with Tyreek Hill, highlighting the ongoing issues and efforts to mend ties.
[14:04] Ross Tucker:
Ross commends Tua Tagovailoa for taking steps to improve his relationship with Tyreek Hill, marking it as a positive start toward team cohesion.
Notable Quote:
Ross Tucker: "He's working on himself. He's working on the things that he said."
[30:06] Ross Tucker:
The discussion moves to the Dallas Cowboys' handling of Micah Parsons' contract negotiations. Ross criticizes owner Jerry Jones for delaying contracts and using player holdouts as a publicity tool, which ultimately strains the salary cap and team dynamics.
[34:40] Paul Pabst:
Paul introduces the Bengals' situation, focusing on Trey Hendrickson's emotional contract discussions and Shemar Stewart's holdout, questioning the rationale behind the Bengals' stringent contract clauses.
Notable Quotes:
Ross Tucker: "He's costing himself $50,000 a day. And the Bengals are not the type of organization that's going to make up for that with the contract they give you."
[46:09] Dan Patrick:
Dan provides an update on Justin Fields' injury, specifying it as a toe injury rather than a knee, which slightly alleviates immediate concerns.
[52:23] Marvin Harrison:
Marvin expresses anxiety over the term "carted off," wondering if the injury could be more severe than it appears.
[53:07] Ross Tucker:
Ross reassures listeners by explaining that "carted off" often means being escorted to the sidelines safely and not necessarily indicating a career-threatening injury.
[54:05] Marvin Harrison:
Marvin shares his curiosity about the Las Vegas Raiders' prospects with their new head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith, noting the team's balanced offense and defense.
[56:40] Paul Pabst:
Paul expresses keen interest in the Pittsburgh Steelers, pondering whether the team is poised for a significant turnaround or another season of mediocrity with the addition of Aaron Rodgers.
[56:51] Todd (Assumed Participant):
Todd questions the curiosity surrounding the Detroit Lions, especially after a disappointing end to the previous season, and whether they can rebound effectively.
[57:30] Final Team Curiosities:
The hosts and guests round off the discussion by mentioning other teams like the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons, highlighting players like Michael Penix Jr. and Bijan Robinson as points of interest for the season.
The episode wraps up with teasers for future segments, including a return of Ross Tucker to discuss whether Nick Saban would consider coaching in the NFL and further updates on NFL player statuses. Additionally, the hosts promote upcoming podcasts and other shows within the iHeartPodcast network.
