You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Well, if Indiana can win a football championship, we can win the sports Emmy. What would be a better story is that the comp Indiana wins the national championship. Dan Patrick show wins his sports Emmy. Well, Indiana did its part. Now it's up to us over the next two years. Come on in. We'll talk to Chase Daniel, the former NFL quarterback. He's been breaking down a lot of tape on the playoff quarterbacks. And also Fernando Mendoza. He'll join us coming up. Congrats to the Indiana Hoosiers winning the national championship, but also congrats to the U. Back in relevance and went toe to toe and could have won that game. I do have the national title odds for next year. According to DraftKings, Indiana and Ohio State are the co favorites there, followed by Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia, lsu, Texas Tech, A and M, Alabama and Miami Florida. The betting lines for the NFL games The Patriots still five and a half point favorites in Denver and the Rams now getting two and a half against Seattle. I thought it started out one and a half, but it's now two and a half. 8773 DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle DP Show Good morning. Seaton
Be we actually have a bunch of poll questions up there right now already. Actually, Indiana football national title story is most similar to the miracle on ice 2016 Leicester City 2016 Cubs or the 1983 North Carolina State team. Right now Lester City has 37% of that vote, followed by the Chicago Cubs.
Dan Patrick
Let's go get the Cubs out. And there we have the Red sox in there. The.04 Red Sox.
Seaton
Yeah, that could have been a good one too.
Dan Patrick
It. It was a good one.
Seaton
I feel like the Red Sox are more competitive than the Cubs over the years, but maybe not. Let's see, we also have one here from Todd. Can we overstate how big Indiana's accomplishment in the history of sports lore right now, 66% say no. And also from Todd, what type of NFL career will Fernando Mendoza have? Elite average or dis average has 72% of that vote.
Dan Patrick
Second place, disappointing Chase Daniel from the mothership. The Chase Daniel show on YouTube must see TV as he breaks down the playoff quarterbacks. And Fernando Mendoza. What kind of pro do you think Fernando Mendoza is going to be? Chase so elite.
Chase Daniel
You're talking like Mahomes, Lamar, Jackson, Burrow, all those. I mean, look, I don't think he's going to be like that, but I really like the way he's played in college. And you even go back to his time at Cal and he just has something about him. Like I know the OC really well at Indiana, so I know the inner workings of him. He's extremely smart. And when you watch him and you were watching him last night, right? He gets a bloody lip. He goes through and you look at the stat line and you're like, well, he didn't even throw for 200 yards and no touchdowns, no interceptions, all this stuff. But you just really look At a couple plays in that game, the fourth down to Becker, right. A couple of these back shoulder throws and then his Heisman moment, the national championship moment on 4th and 5 with Fernando Mendoza. You're calling a quarterback draw versus that Miami defense. And Miami, the D coordinator came out, said we even knew it was going to happen. He just finds ways to will your team to victory. I mean, look, he would have already been taken number one, but his playoff run going back to the Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game and then his entire playoff run against these defenses, to me, he's easily cemented himself as the number one pick. It's not even question.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I just not sure. And once again, I know we're, we're. We just put the national title game to rest, but looking for moving forward. I don't know what I see there. Like, I, I see is he. Kirk Cousins, less athletic? Andrew Luck? Is Joe Flacco. Like, I, I'm not quite sure. And, and look, I would take that if I'm the Raiders and I get any one of those three.
Matt and Joel (How to Money Podcast)
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
But I'm, I'm just not sure what I'm seeing with.
Chase Daniel
Well, and, and, and, and I think a lot of people are. Are you, Dan? That's why I was sort of hoping Dante Moore would come out. Because for me, when I break down Dante Moore, yeah, he's not as polished, but the ceiling's much higher when you get Fernando Mendoza, he's already so polished. And whatever you're talking about, this next jump to the NFL, where they're all grown men, they're all good stuff, you look at ceiling like, how much better can you get? And so when, when I'm breaking them down, to me, the number one thing that I see in a scouting report is like, I just love the way he plays. Like passion, poise and heart, like, you can't measure that. Right. You have to have a strong enough arm to make all the throws. And I think he's shown that with these back shoulder throws. I think he's more athletic than you think. He's got a stronger arm than you think. The one thing that NFL coaches are going to love, and especially Tom Brady when they take him at number one, is his eyes are never in the wrong spot, so he never gets confused. He's extremely smart. And I'm talking to some of these Indiana coaches and they're like, you're exactly right on that. He just knows exactly where to look versus pressure. He's a real cerebral type quarterback. I think he progresses really well. He sees it really well, and mechanically he's really solid. The one thing I think that a lot of people are going to see is like, hey, his pocket mechanics, meaning how does he feel in the pocket versus money? Because you're going to get a lot of muddy pockets in the NFL. I think that's something that really needs to be improved on. I think there was a stat in the game to start the second half. Three pass attempts, three sacks. Right. And he ended up getting going in the fourth quarter. But that's sort of the. The early scouting report, and it's just almost by default because the Raiders need a quarterback and there's really no other quarterbacks that, that even remotely stand a chance. So I think with great coaching, with good people around him, you have Ashton Genty, Brock Bowers, if you go out and get a receiver. The one thing I'm worried about the Raiders, though, is that offensive line is pretty bad.
Dan Patrick
We'll segue into the NFL. What has happened to C.J. stroud?
Paulie
Wow.
Chase Daniel
That is. That's a great question. I actually called. So the. ESPN had an alternative cast on the app and called both of C.J. stroud's games up there in Bristol on ESPN the app. It's the. The playbook game where it's analytics. So I got to really dive into not only him playing the game, but analytically, too. And I actually really thought he played a little bit better weeks one through, I think 11. Not great. Still took a lot of sacks.
Matt and Joel (How to Money Podcast)
Still.
Chase Daniel
That offensive line's pretty bad. And then when he went out with injury and watched Davis Mills play for those three weeks, I thought he came back and was on fire. I think it was weeks through 18. I thought he played really, really well, saw the field really well. And then it's just the regression in the playoffs. It's one of those things where if he's not seeing the first read clearly and he's having a hard time progressing within the pocket to his next read, that's where it gets muddy. And he just makes bad decisions. Right. You know it more than anyone. Quarterback play, especially in the NFL, is, yeah, you got to have all the. The arm strength in the throat. You can't make bad decisions. You can't turn the football over and expect to win. Right. He was the liability. And I think when you get in a point like that and you get in a point where you're just pressing constantly, more bad plays are going to happen to you. And it's just. I don't think that they're going to move on from, I think they're going to pick up the fifth year option. But it is getting to a point where if you aren't sure that C.J. stroud your guy, you got to start looking elsewhere. You know, everyone remembers the rookie season, but those next two have just been okay.
Dan Patrick
And this is the danger that we see. We saw this with Tua, we saw this with Kyler. That I gotta be sure if I'm giving you a couple hundred million dollars, I'm sorry, I might be hurting your feelings. You gotta show me one more year. And even with CJ Stroud, you might show me one more year, I'll franchise. I'm like, I'm, I'm just not giving you that kind of money. If you said to Miami you can do a do over, they would do a do over. You know, Arizona with Kyler Murray, there's certain guy, you know, Josh Allen got extended after I think three years. I understand that, or Joe Burrow, but these guys aren't Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. So that temptation of or I'm going to hurt your feelings if I don't extend you. Yeah, I'm sorry, this is big boy business here.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I couldn't agree more in the way that it's situated. With first round picks, I'm sure a lot of people follow and understand you have the fifth year option, then you can technically go back to back franchise tags. So you have a first year pick under contract for seven years without you having to actually extend them. Now, a lot of people don't do that a la Kirk Cousins because it gets really expensive and those franchise tags are guaranteed money. So they still have a little bit of time. And I think when you looked at and talked to d' Amico Ryan's or, or when he had his postgame interview, he was like, hey, we got a little bit of time here. But during that time it's like, hey, we got to start looking at, hey, what's in the draft, what's there and what's in free agency. So you do have a little bit of time because technically first round picks, you can have them under contract for seven years.
Dan Patrick
Chase Daniel, ESPN NFL college football analyst and part of the Athletics Scoop City podcast and host of the Chase Daniel show on YouTube. Would you have moved on from Sean McDermott in Buffalo?
Chase Daniel
That, I mean, I, I, everything I know about Sean McDermott, I love him and I think he's, he's one of the better coaches. I think this is something and I know it's been heard, but I've heard as well. It's like you almost reach a ceiling with him and the message gets stale, I think, a little bit, right? When you get to the division round and you get the AFC Championship round a couple of times and you lose to the quarterbacks you lose to. This was the year, Dan, that they were supposed to do it, right? They were playing really good ball. No Joe Burrow, no Lamar Jackson, no Patrick Mahomes. And in the biggest game of the year, Josh Allen lays an egg. And it's almost like, hey, you're really not to blame, but we got to change leadership, right? When you come back and I've been a part of teams like this, like, when you come back to a team after a big playoff run and you hear the same message again, you're like, well, what's going to change?
Matt and Joel (How to Money Podcast)
Right?
Chase Daniel
What's going to change? We have, we have. We have one of the best, if not the best quarterbacks in all the NFL. We have a decent team. We've constructed an okay roster with Brandon Bean. But when you come back as a player and you hear Sean McDermott say, this is what we're going to do, and it really doesn't. I'm not saying it doesn't change, right. I don't. I'm not in that room. But it's just the same message over and over again. You're expecting different results that the definitions. Insanity. It's a tough business. I mean, who would have thought 10, 10 teams would have been without head coaching jobs and especially with the quarterbacks that they have. So this is easily the most important hire, I think, in, in Bill's history, because you look at what you have with Josh Allen and everyone. I mean, how do you think it would have played out with Harbaugh and Stefanski? Like, I don't think they go to their places. I think they go to Buffalo because, yeah, it's without a doubt of all the openings, you have Josh Allen, and it's just, it's a tough business.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But is Sean McDermott a better coach if Josh Allen doesn't throw interceptions?
Chase Daniel
That's a great point.
Dan Patrick
I mean, really, that's if, if they win and then you're going to have them against New England, he might be going to the. He's in the AFC title game.
Chase Daniel
And that's why I think it's just so, like, there's so many decisions in a game, right. Like, what happens if that's a catch rather than an interception?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah.
Chase Daniel
What happens. But here's the thing, though.
Dan Patrick
Did you Agree with that, Cole.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, well, I mean, you're going to get me. I, I thought it was absolutely an interception.
Dan Patrick
I.
Chase Daniel
He never controlled the ball going to the ground.
Dan Patrick
The.
Chase Daniel
The DB's hand was in there and the ball was coming loose, so I thought it was. I thought it was the correct call.
Dan Patrick
You know what I'm finding Players, former players, think it's an interception where most fans think it's a catch.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. I mean, who do you trust? Right? I mean, I think to me, it's like, it's so hard to understand what a, What a catch is nowadays. But you Also look at McDermott, go back to McDermott. You look at the decision at halftime with 16 seconds left to let Josh Allen throw the ball. Like, like, I, I get it, but your job as a coach is to, if you know your guy's going to be that aggressive, to take the stinger out of his hand, say, take a knee. Let's go, let's go. Right. And, And I get it. There's like five or six plays, Dan, in every single game. And sometimes ownership makes rash decisions at that time. Like, I, I think McDermott's going to get another job. I think he's probably the best. Best coach out there. But at some point, the message just gets. Still, you got to move on.
Caller
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
You see these coaches that you got, Tomlin and Harbaugh, who couldn't get their team over the hump. What makes you think they can get their new team, the Giants, over the hump? Or if Mike comes back and coaches over the hump, I. It just feels like there's. There's a couple of coaches who can get you there, but it doesn't work if your quarterback's not great or a couple of bounces go your way. And, yeah, I mean, there. There's a lot of l that, that goes in, you know, to survival here. But, I mean, did Pittsburgh tune out Mike Tomlin? Did they tune out John Harbaugh? You know?
Chase Daniel
Yeah. I mean, look, like I was saying, I do think the message gets a little bit stale, and at some point, like, it's almost like Andy Reid leaving Philly. Right. And. And. And Sean Payton leaving New Orleans. Sometimes you just need a change. And not only the change for the head coach. Right. But a change for. For the team as well. And you look at the hiring cycle so far, and it's. It's pretty interesting. The first four head coaches all have prior head coaching experience. I know Halfley was a head coach at bc, but I think that's where a Lot of these things are moving now. I think you're going to get into some offensive coordinator hires.
Dan Patrick
All right. Is Cam Ward a franchise quarterback?
Chase Daniel
I mean. Yeah, I think so, without a doubt. It's going to be interesting to see who, who Robert Sala brings in to be the OC because I was really surprised actually that they went defensive higher there. When you have your franchise quarterback, I, I think without a doubt he does. I think they need to completely renovate that entire offense. I think they need a little bit better help offensively, offensive line, the receivers. But what Cam Moore has shown in the short amount of time, it's been great. Now his, his next step to me is how does he handle the new offensive system.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Chase Daniel
Because I wonder if they bring in an offensive coordinator that's an under center play action type or are you going to bring in a spread it out type style like Mike McDaniels to me makes a lot of sense.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I know.
Chase Daniel
You know, I mean, think about what he has and then think about Cam Ward, who is a better thrower in my mind of the football than Tua into his offense with all those ships and all those motions and all this stuff like that. But I've liked Kim Moore every, every time I've seen him play. And he just, he's the least talked about number one pick in the, in the history of number one picks because he went to the Tennessee Titans and they sucked and they've hired their head coach.
Dan Patrick
Well, stuff. So he was in the same draft with Shador Sanders. So that's. Yeah, that's why he got over. I mean, yeah, Tyler Schuck had a really good year for New Orleans and nobody talked about that either. So I'll leave you with this. If, if you're Sean Payton and you got Jared Stidham now, how do you like, what kind of offense can you have against New England?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I mean I did the New England game up there at ESPN2 on the app and the alt cast and New England, to me defensively, they, they do so many different things to confuse the quarterback. When I'm out there and I have the clicker and I'm just watching it on my, on my iPad, I'm like, what coverage are they in? So imagine being on the field trying to see this and you haven't started a game in forever. The one thing about Jared Stidham as a quarterback, like the team loves him and not only loves him, but loves what he could do. He's played really well the times he's done here's one thing about Sean Payton, and this is talking from a backup quarterback standpoint where I've come in in a short week's rest Thanksgiving Day 2018 and was able to go out there and play really well sometimes as a backup when you don't overthink it and you're not trying to get so involved in the game plan, you just go out there and play and just let your adrenaline take over and just let your pure progression passing take over. I like it. I think Sean, knowing who Sean is at his core, he's going to make this work. And I do think they probably are more aggressive than a lot of people think throwing the football. He's not changing the game plan. I promise you that. It is the exact same game plan. They're going to go in and look, probably take the quarterback, run out, they have to muster up some type of run game. But I really think they're going to be aggressive throwing the football down the field and I think City plays pretty well.
Dan Patrick
Great stuff as always. Thank you, Chase.
Chase Daniel
Thanks, Dan.

Hey there. This is Dr. Jesse Mills, director of the Men's Clinic at UCLA Health and host of the Mailroom podcast. Each January, guys everywhere make the same resolutions. Get stronger, work harder, fix what's broken. But what if the real work isn't physical at all? To kick off the new year, I sat down with Dr. Steve Poulter, a psychologist with over 30 years experience helping men unpack sh anxiety and emotional pain they were never taught to name. In a powerful two part conversation, we discuss why men aren't emotionally bulletproof, why shame hides in plain sight, and how real strength comes from listening to yourself and to others.

Business A story that's not going to get a lot of attention, but it should the Seahawks are going to be without their leading touchdown Score for the remainder of the season. Zach Charbonnet has a torn ACL and he's one of those sneaky good running backs. You have him with Kenneth Walker III and it's a two headed monster there. They need their running game. He's had a nice season but out with a torn acl. Oh boy. Walker's been great coming off three touchdowns there in that big win against San Francisco. But Charbonnet is I and I think at one point a couple of weeks ago draftkings had him as the favorite for anytime touchdown in the Super Bowl. That's how valuable Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show Solomon in la. Hi Solomon.
Caller
Well, hi Dan. Thanks for taking my call. You know I don't have a dog in the fight. Didn't have a dog in the fight as a UCLA fan but I was pulling for Miami to pull the upset and I think they could have. Their special teams were gone awful and all game long. Miami is down three points. They're down 10 points. You're down three points. You're down 10 points of course because their kicker couldn't make a field goal. That's his second bunk in the playoffs. And that nimmy touchdown on the God awful defense on the, on the punt.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, they were only sending three and they still blocked the punt. Kurt Signetti this season he got $2 million by the way for winning the national championship. His incentives for the playoffs, for the year, for being coach of the year, $4.2 million. You add that to 9.9 base peso, he's at 14.1. So because Indiana won the national championship, they reached the national title. Indiana from what I'm told will negotiate in good faith to ensure that he is ranked no less than the third highest paid active coach, Kirby Smart. Then it's Lane Kiffin. Then it's Ryan Day. Kirby Smart makes 3.13.3. Kiffin makes 13 and Ryan Day makes 12.6. Signetti is likely to get a 3 million dollar annual adjustment to his compensation. How about that? Best money they ever spent at Indiana. Best Money Hour 2 poll question. Can you give me an yes, Paulie.
Paulie
I have an update on a poll question. Okay, based off that last call, if you're a fan of a Big Ten team, not Indiana, were you rooting for Indiana to win or lose last night?
Dan Patrick
So if you're an a Big Ten fan.
Paulie
If you're a Big Ten fan of any other team.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I think you're rooting for Indiana, I think you're rooting for the Big Ten. I think Michigan and Ohio State, Oregon, they probably look at Indiana and go, well, that's a cute story, but, you know, we're sustainable. They're not. They probably still don't look at Indiana and go, yeah, we're gonna have to deal with them next year and the year after that.
Seaton
Yes, rooting for them is tough because if you're a Big Ten fan, you want the national champion to be in the Big Ten, but it's tough to root for another team that you're normally either rivals with or you're competing against.
Dan Patrick
You know, what can you say? I'm fine with Indiana winning.
Seaton
I mean, I'd rather them win than Miami, I guess, but.
Dan Patrick
But doesn't the Big Ten make money off Indiana as far as, you know, the further they go. So you do make money.
Seaton
I think if Ohio State was going to say, that's nice, the money that you contributed this year, however, I think we're.
Dan Patrick
Lucas in Texas. Hi, Luke. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan.
Matt and Joel (How to Money Podcast)
Good morning.
Dan Patrick
Good morning.
Caller
Two things from last night. Number one, go back and listen to the audio of that punt block. You can hear the roar of the Indiana fans right before it happens. They realize it. Really cool to hear.
Dan Patrick
And Marvin, Marvin, would you play that? And then I'll get back to Luke.
Chase Daniel
Dylan, Joyce, Bakarat, his own two to take the snap. And it's back to him. And the punt is on.
Caller
Oh, it's blocked. Oh, that's huge. It is picked up.
Dan Patrick
Touchdown, Indiana. Isaiah Jones. And Indiana comes up with a tremendous play, but Kyle Kamara got the block out of the kick. There were a lot of Indiana fans there. Lot of fans. That's courtesy of Learfield Sports. All right, Luke, what else have.
Caller
Yeah, the other thing for Mr. Buzzkill, Todd in the back. Not really getting the overstatement of the moment. I'll try to put it in terms. Maybe he could get. Let's say that Travis Kelsey is.
Dan Patrick
We can't even give the scenario. You happy with that? That's what happens.
Todd
That's what you do when you try to get cute.
Dan Patrick
Luke, would you try to call us back? Zach in Idaho. Hi, Zach. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, what's going on, Dan? First time. Long time. Five, eight. Hefty. 250. I just wanted to say, as a Raiders fan, I kind of had your same sentiment as far as Fernanda Mendoza. I wasn't super excited, but I know we need one. But there was one play that got Me excited. And it's not one you're thinking of. It's about third quarter. Halfway through the edge, rusher came in clean off the right tackle and smacked his arm real hard. And the way he held onto the football and leaned in and just took the sack, man, he looked professional.
Dan Patrick
Well, he's gonna have to get used to that with the Raiders offensive line of, you know, defenders coming through and smacking him. He got hit a few times early. I thought one should have been called for roughing. There were probably three of them early, but he took those hits. Donna in New York. Hi, Donna. What's on your mind?
Caller
Oh, good morning. I am. I'm upset over Sean McDermott being fired. We haven't heard from Josh Allen.
Dan Patrick
Does he do an exit interview during the week?
Paulie
Paul, I don't see anything that says players have to do exit interviews. Some do, but mostly it's coaches and GMs this week.
Dan Patrick
Okay. And I don't know where he's living. I know his wife is pregnant, so I don't know if they're in Buffalo, but. And I don't know if Josh wants to get in front of a microphone and talk about this. You know, somebody said this to me, why didn't Mike Tomlin get a chance to hold a press conference? And I went, I. I don't know. I mean, he doesn't have to. But the point that was being made to me is maybe Tomlin got fired because he didn't get to hold a press conference. And I go, I still think he stepped down. Somebody who is close to the situation told me that he stepped down. Also told me that doesn't see Tomlin coaching anytime soon and is not sure if Tomlin's going in to broadcast it. So that's all I know. I don't know anything about an exit interview for the head coach who stepped down or the quarterback who lost, you know, in the playoffs.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, as a member of the media, we'd all be in favor of a post firing, mandatory interview.
Dan Patrick
Sure. I'm fine with that. Uncomfortable? Yeah. It's all about content for me. I. It's not my coach, not my team. Dave in Charleston. Hi, Dave. What's on your mind today? Hey, good morning, Dan.
Caller
How you doing this morning?
Dan Patrick
Great.
Caller
Third time, short time, 62198. So I think you guys have got some good ideas of who should play Kurt Signetti, but I've got two guys that you guys have totally looked over.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Caller
J.K. simmons and Stephen Root.
Dan Patrick
J.K. simmons two jacked Stephen Root, who was in Barry Office Space. Okay. Red swing line stapler. I. I think Greg Kinnear would be your guy. How old is Greg Kinnear? He's probably late 50s.
Paulie
Greg Kinnear just turned 62.
Dan Patrick
Okay. He looks good.
Paulie
Looks young.
Dan Patrick
He looks like he's late 50s, but I could see him. He's already played a coach and Dick Vermeil. By the way, I watched the movie yesterday afternoon, and it is called Nebraska. Now, it's not Bruce Springsteen movie, it's Nebraska. And it is a sneaky. I think, great movie. Will Forte is in there. Bob Odenkirk is in there.
Seaton
What's his name?
Dan Patrick
Bruce Dern.
Seaton
Bruce Dern, yes.
Dan Patrick
Is spectacular. He got nominated for an Academy Award. And it's shot in black and white. It's in Nebraska. And it's shot in Nebraska. It is a really good movie. Sneaky. Good. Now, it's not, you know, there's no explosions. There's no, you know, car chases, no nudity. Sorry, Todd, I'm out. Yeah. And then Jane, I think it's. Jane's a June Squib.
Paulie
June Squib.
Dan Patrick
June Squib is Bruce Stern's wife. And she is. She's a hoot. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
It got 95 on rotten tomatoes. Very positive reviews.
Dan Patrick
I've watched it twice in the last.
Seaton
Week, but over the course of. How many days did you watch it twice?
Dan Patrick
Well, I watched all the way through last night.
Seaton
Whoa.
Dan Patrick
All the way or yesterday afternoon? I know, I know. My wife is like, are you gonna watch the whole thing? I go, yeah, I think so. And I'd already watched it before. Well, it took me a couple of sittings, but it. I don't know what you're watching tonight or tomorrow or the next day. This is one of those where we get back to our regularly scheduled, you know, husbandry. Hey, hon, what do you want me to. What do you need me to do? Don't you have a game or something? No, no. And if I did, I'd still be here in the kitchen with you. Yeah, I've done that. Where I'm like, hey, what do you. What do you need me to do? And she goes, what time's the game start? I go, I don't know, around 7:30? She goes, all right. Yeah, Paulie.
Paulie
Are you guys going to get into the rip the new Ben Affleck, Matt Damon?
Dan Patrick
I watched it already. Yeah, it's a movie, not a series.
Paulie
Oh, I thought it was a series.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Yeah, I watched it. I like them together. Twist at the End. Interesting storyline. I liked it. I liked it. But I. I do like those. Those two guys together. All right, let me see. Gino in Virginia. Hi, Gino. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, gentlemen, second time caller, longtime listener. Love the show as always. Hey, got one thing also. This is a great thing for American Hispanic football. Me and my son were talking. He's a senior chief in the Navy, and we're talking about this. And since the Jim Plunkett days, that brought a lot of Hispanic American. And why don't you play the Kirks and Eddie? You got a lot of star power. Come on.
Dan Patrick
Well, you know, Todd suggested this.
Todd
Why not?
Dan Patrick
I don't know.
Todd
You don't always have to look exactly like the person. You have makeup in all kinds of ways now to make you look more like somebody.
Dan Patrick
I can give that stern look like he does when you do stupid things.
Todd
I've seen that.
Dan Patrick
Yes, you.
Todd
On multiple occasions.
Dan Patrick
Many, many times. But thank you, Gino. Thank you, Dave in Cincinnati. Hi, Dave. What's on your mind? Hey, Dave.
Caller
How about the Google Me now, the Kurt Signetti story starring Jonah Hill.
Dan Patrick
You go back to that. And he said, look, I was trying to, you know, I think he was overly aggressive saying to those people and saying to the Big Ten in Michigan and Ohio State, you know, Google Me. And it was a great moment, you know, when he's there at the basketball game. I loved it. Yes, Todd.
Todd
And he's even a character when he doesn't mean to be. If you start the beginning of the game, Holly Row went over to him for a pregame thing. He had gum in his mouth, and he takes the gum out. He's holding in his hand so that he didn't want to be rude chewing gum while he's answering a couple of quick questions. He's just so funny.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. All right, we'll update the poll results. You're welcome. Yeah. Ross Tucker will join us. Coming up, top of the hour.
Todd
Just a odd little moment. You don't see that much. I'm gonna take my gum out.
Dan Patrick
Oh, I know.
Seaton
Especially because he couldn't, like, peel it out of it. Like, he had to. He. He didn't.
Dan Patrick
Of his mouth.
Seaton
He had to peel it out of his mouth like it was in his gums. Like he had to take it out. Big wad of dip, it looked like.
Dan Patrick
And that's a tough situation game. And you could see where they just had the coin toss. And then they go down to Holly Row with Coach Signetti, and he's already kind of Getting his players ready and what they're going to do. And, you know, he's coaching and. And so she's kind of waiting a little bit there. It's like, hey, how do you, you know, tell your kids it's not. The moments aren't too big? And then he's like, all right, thank you, coach. Yeah.
Seaton
Which is a completely unnecessary interview to do.
Dan Patrick
Absolutely not.
Seaton
Not, not, not. No slight to Holly Rose. She's great at what she does, but you're not going to get it.
Matt and Joel (How to Money Podcast)
You know what?
Seaton
Actually, they think we're going to throw. We're going to run the ball constantly. Just a little tidbit for you here. I'm going to give you guys that info. It's a completely useless thing to do.
Dan Patrick
I know. I know, Coach.
Seaton
What are you telling your kids? Just play hard, you know, do the best you can and, you know, do your job and things will work out well. All right, thanks back to you guys.
Dan Patrick
But I do like the job opportunity for people in the business.
Seaton
Definitely not taking jobs away. We just have to understand that it's not useful.
Dan Patrick
Well, when they're leaving the field at halftime, I can do without that. Coach, what kind of adjustments are you going to make? Well, you know what? Come here. I got my notebook here. I'll show you everything. There it is right there.
Seaton
We're going to start blocking differently, so we can run that way now, and we're going to start doing that.
Dan Patrick
You know what we're going to do? We're going to tackle in the second half. Yes, Marv.
Todd
And you've been to a ton of these games. The PR person, when they're guiding the.
Dan Patrick
Coach and you see the guy, you.
Todd
Can see the coach giving them the just the dirtiest look like.
Dan Patrick
Do I have to?
Todd
Yes, you have to.
Dan Patrick
Come on. Come on, Coach. No, you're a rights holder, and I think you get normally two questions. You know, it's negotiated. Yes, Todd.
Todd
And no matter how cleverly worded you put the question, they're not going to say, watch out for the flea flicker to fake punt coming up in the first half. I probably shouldn't tell you that, but you know, I love you, Holly. Fake punt and fleet flicker.
Chase Daniel
Jeffrey.
Dan Patrick
Second quarter. Don't tell anybody. Don't tell anybody. We're going to imagine if Sean Payton said that in the Super Bowl. We're going to open up the second half with an onside kick. Yes, Todd.
Todd
Not only will he not say that, if we've seen what he. How he handled the press recently, and I Kid that said with the downhill running, he's got no plan. Someone was wants to ask him a thing about Bo Nix, he goes, here's the situation. Bo Nix hurt his ankle. It'll be steady. He'll be ready to go. I will not answer any other questions about any other injuries. Got it? That's it. I'm finished with that. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said, don't even think about asking about any other guys on the injury.
Dan Patrick
Maybe, maybe we should get the audio. I'm just saying.
Paulie
Or we now paraphrase everything.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that could be dangerous. You know, hey, I heard this, but I don't have it exactly right. All right, let me take a break. We'll get to more phone calls and our good buddy Ross Tucker. John Paulk
I'm John Paulk. For years, I was the poster boy of the conversion therapy movement, the ex gay who married an ex lesbian and traveled the world, telling my story of how I changed my sexuality from gay to straight. Once upon a time, I was on 60 Minutes, Oprah, the front cover of Newsweek, and you might have heard my story, but you've never heard the real story. So join me as I peel back the layers and expose what happened to me in the midst of of conversion therapy to shine a light on what the X Game movement does to people and the pain it continues to cause.
Todd
I had lost £150 because if I.
Dan Patrick
Couldn'T control my sexuality, I was going.
John Paulk
To control my weight.
Chase Daniel
It sounded like, and this is the word I used, occult.
John Paulk
And as I look too, at the harm I did from within, listen to atonement, the John Paulk story on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Dr. Jesse Mills
Hey there. Steve Poulter, a psychologist with over 30 years experience helping men unpack shame, anxiety and emotional pain they were never taught to name. In a powerful two part conversation, we discuss why men aren't emotionally bulletproof, why shame hides in plain sight, and how real strength comes from listening to yourself and to others.
Dan Patrick
Guys are toxic, they're immature, or they've got something they just haven't resolved. Once that gets resolved, then there comes empathy, as in compassion.
Dr. Jesse Mills
If you want this to be the year you stop powering through pain and start understanding what's underneath, listen to the mailroom on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your favorite shows.
Dan Patrick
By the way, we are casting the Kurt Signetti movie and we mentioned Greg Kinnear. Great actor. Where is Greg Kinnear from Indiana. Indiana. Of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that. What stat of the day. By the way, if you would like to visit us when we're in San Francisco for the super bowl, the China Basin is where we're, we're going to be set up and the backdrop is the ballpark. So gorgeous. If you're watching on Peacock, we're actually giving you an aerial shot of the China Basin, China Basin park and want to thank the park people and also the San Francisco Giants for helping us find that location. Yes.
Seaton
So during the Bonds era, when you look at McCovey Cove and everybody would be in the boats in the water waiting to catch a home run ball. We're on the other side of that water.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Seaton
That's awesome.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Now, beautiful shot. The backdrop is the stadium there. But. But if you would like to join us, first come, first serve. And you just show up in the morning and dress warm because I think temperatures will be in the 40s. I think it'll probably top out in the 60s, but probably around. It can't be colder than Vegas was. Right. Vegas was pretty cold. That felt like that was in the 30s. We had some heaters there. But dress, dress appropriately. If you'd like to join us, there will be out there two weeks from yesterday and we'll be out there all week long. Let's see Fresh in Milwaukee. Hi, Fresh. What's on your mind today?
Caller
What's up DP and Dan Net. First of all the rip. As you said, great movie, but I'm trying to get a professional opinion from you. Dp what's the difference between Stevenson stripping the ball from Devonte Adams and McMillan stripping it from Cooks?
Dan Patrick
I don't know that that's my answer. I don't know. In real time, I thought it was. Was a completion to cooks. And then the more I watched it and the more I was educated on it, then I realized that, yeah, I can see why they called it an interception. I'm shocked that they called it in interception on the field in real time, because normally you would give the benefit of the doubt to the wide receiver. That's what shocked me. And then I realized they are not overturning this call. And they, of course, didn't. Yeah, Paulie.
Todd
Yeah.
Paulie
It's such splitting hairs when you watch devonte Adams go down. He has two hands on the ball, and he never doesn't until it's ripped. And then Cooks, as he hits the ground, his left hand flies out, and the ball is more in the other guy's hand.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I mean, it's. I don't know how. Now, if I said, hey, we're gonna have professional officials, that doesn't help a situation like that. I want to have the people in New York or an overhead judge who can help us get the call right. That if the goal is to get the job done correctly, I don't want Walt Anderson saying, you know, we got to speed up the game here. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. We're not speeding up the game. We want to get the call right. A coach got fired for this. You got to get the call right. And you can't sit there and go, all these games that last forever. College football lasts four hours. You got commercial inventory. I mean, nobody's going to complain about that. Networks are making money. Advertisers get, you know, their product seen. We want to get the call right. It's not like we're going, hey, come on, speed this up. I mean, we might do that if it takes too long of amount of time. But in that moment, as important as that play was, get the call right. Now, you can make the argument they did get it right, but I don't want to hear a head of officials or a former official say, well, you got to speed this up a little bit. No, you got to make sure you get the call right. Yeah.
Seaton
Sutton in soccer, they have a thing called var. It's a video assisted referee. And so the referees are all communicating with each other through like, you know, headsets or whatever. But if I'm not mistaken, I think the broadcast team is able to hear those conversations that they're having that the referees are having. So you'll be watching a soccer match, and you'll be like, God, that looked like a handball or whatever. Like, why aren't they looking at that? And then the announcer, after 10 seconds or so, we'll drop a little thing like, well, VAR is already taking a look at it, and it's clear. And then, you know, see, they've already reviewed it and there's no handball. So you just move on with the play. There's no wondering, like, what.
Dan Patrick
What are they doing?
Seaton
Did they miss that? How did they not see it? What, though we had video. They tell you, oh, they looked at it. It's already fine.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I brought that up a couple of years ago. I said, let us in on it. Let us. I mean, if we're going to be transparent in the age of gambling, let us know what you're seeing and not seeing. You need help with this? Hey, nothing. Go back to the Saints game years ago. Nobody asked for any help, and they missed the call. They missed two calls on one play. Your job is to get the call right, no matter how it happens. Hey, I. I may have made a mistake here. Okay? You know, it's a bigger mistake when you don't correct the mistake. We have time. Sean McDermott had time, or so we thought. So these calls are important. That one. You can make the argument they did get it right, but I don't want to hear, we got to speed up the process.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, The ACC just started doing this this past season. They allow college football fans to watch the back and forth between the command center and the refs on the field.
Dan Patrick
I've been saying this took forever for them to, you know, finally give us pylon cam. I called for that for years. Like, just put cameras in there. We don't know if they broke the plane. Have a pylon cam. Let us hear what they're talking about. What are you hiding? Ross Tucker coming up in 10 minutes from now on this Tuesday, more phone calls as well. Fritzi, Seaton, Marv Polly, and yours truly.
