This is an I heart podcast.
Paul Pabst
Every now and then I rinse it out and I need jelly rinse tonight and I need it more. My kid wears a bed and the smell never leaves. I don't know what to do.
Dan Patrick
I'm always in the dark.
Paul Pabst
The sweat and D sure smells like a dark downy rinse fights stubborn odors in just one wash when impossible odors get stuck. Hello, America's sweetheart. Johnny Knoxville here. I want to tell you about my new true crime podcast, Crimeless Hillbilly Heist from Smartless Media, Campside Media and big money players. It's a wild tale about a gang of high functioning nitwits who somehow pulled off America's third largest cash heist. Kind of like Robin Hood, except for the part where he steals from the rich and gives to the poor.
Dan Patrick
I'm not that jerk.
Paul Pabst
It's a damn near inspiring true story for anyone out there who's ever shot for the moon, then just totally muffed up the landing. They stole $17 million and had not bought a ticket to help him escape. So we're sitting like, oh God, what do we do? What do we do? That was dumb. People, do not follow my example. Listen to Crimeless Hillbilly Heist on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Dan Patrick
What's up, everybody? It's snacks from the trap, nerds and all October long, we're bringing you the horror.
Paul Pabst
Boogity, boogity, boogity.
Dan Patrick
We kicking off this month with some of my best horror games to keep you terrified. Then we'll be talking about our favorite horror and Halloween movies and figuring out why black people always die first.
Paul Pabst
And it's the return of Tony's horror show side Quests, written and narrated by yours truly. We'll also be doing a full episode reading with commentary.
Dan Patrick
And we'll cap it off with a horror movie battle Royale. Open your free Aha Radio app and search Trapped Nerds podcast and listen.

Now two rich young Americans move to the Costa Rican jungle to start over. But one of them will end up dead and the other tried for murder three times. It starts with a dream, a nature reserve and a spectacular new home. But little by little, they lose it.
Dan Patrick
They actually lose it.
Paul Pabst
They sort of went nuts. Until one night, everything spins out of control. Listen to Hell in Heaven on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your PODC. Chicago, a white woman's murder. A black man behind bars for a crime he didn't commit.

Listen to the Crying Wolf podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio, Hour two on this meet Friday. Happy Halloween. Charles Barkley will join us coming up in about 20 minutes from now shuck around and find out the T shirt you didn't know your wardrobe needed. It's available@danpatrick.com and it's the quarterback for the Saints, Tyler Shuck, who gets his first start of his career on the road against the Rams. And I think the Rams are favored by two touchdowns. Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, download the app if you haven't done so. If you would like to watch this program or if you just want to listen over 400 cities in America carrying the program. 877-3-DP. Show operator Tyler sitting by. We'll get to your phone calls coming up. Baseball tonight. Will it be the last game of the season? Can the Dodgers extend it to Saturday and Toronto at home for these next two games? It's a game six tonight. Ravens handled the Dolphins four touchdowns for Lamar. They're now three and five. It feels like a dangerous three and five, which is strange to say, but I'm only going based off the last two games here. And I just don't see the Steelers separating from the Ravens. It feels like nine wins can win this division. The AFC North. We just had Dan Orlovsky on. He said, I wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens ended up with 10 or 11 wins this regular season. All right, poll question for hour two. By the way, it is a meat Friday and Dylan is in the kitchen. He's dressed up as a Harry Potter character, but I don't know Harry Potter. I know Harry Potter, but I don't know the character. I never saw any of the movies or read any of the books. Yes, that would be Hermione that he's dressed up. Hermione. Yes, Hermione. Hermione. Okay. And what was Hermione's role in Harry Potter? She was the. What's her name? Emma Watson. Okay. The little girl that went on to be very famous off those movies. Okay. Something Leviosa. I don't know if that was always her thing. Okay. She always spoke very clearly. Those. Did you Guys see Harry Potter movies or read the books? Marvin?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I've seen one.
Paul Pabst
Okay. Satan. Seen them all. Did you read the books? No, but my wife and son did, so I count that as yes, Todd. Harry Potter. I saw parts of one.
Dan Patrick
I didn't stay with it.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, I. I don't think I. I might have seen a little bit of snippet. And I know that my kids delved into those books and some of my kids reread those. I think my son reread those. A coup. You want me to give you the essential plot line of every single one? Can you tell me how it ends? Harry wins. What's he win? I don't know. If they save the school, I guess, from the main bad guy, Basically, in every single movie, Harry Potter is this kid. Everyone there's this bad. These bad people trying to kill him because he's the most powerful wizard Harry Potter is. Harry doesn't actually do anything. All of his friends do all the work. They are the ones that save the day. Harry gets all the credit. Every. Single. That's eight straight movies or whatever it is. His friends do everything and they're like, but it's you, Harry. Okay, what's better, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter? Come on now. I didn't see Lord of the Rings either. What? Lord of the Rings? No, Marvin, did you see Lord of the Rings?
Dan Patrick
I saw the one I needed to see. The third one.
Paul Pabst
Okay. And does. Does he. Who is Lord of the Rings? Frodo of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. They throw the ring. Who's Rudy? That's Samwise Gange. Okay. Yeah. So he was Rudy in the documentary on Notre Dame football. Yeah. Okay. Well, thank you. So good. Even just the way they're shot, just the way they look, they're epic. The biggest movie you could possibly imagine. Well, you know, it takes me 10 years usually to come around to something, you know. Yeah, they were pretty good. But I get. I definitely get Lord of the Rings, though. You get lost. It's a little too heavy, obviously, in, like, the fantasy thing. So if that's not your, you know, knights and goblins and stuff, you're really gonna hate it. But I don't like scary movies. I don't like. I mean, there's quite a few of them that I just don't like the genre. Yes. I just watched last night. I watched this movie called Weapons, just came out this year. Holy crap. That was a crazy movie. If you like horror movies, it was awesome. Yeah, I don't like Horror movies. I mean, I like to get out. I thought it was pretty awesome. Yeah, that was different. And Jordan Poole is, you know, brilliant at this. But I, I don't do scary.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Marv, anything you like. Suspense.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Paul Pabst
I mean, you know, give me a Liam Neeson. Give me Bourne Identity and like, I'm good with those things.
Dan Patrick
Or like the Sixth Sense.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, but that was a one off there. But I'm talking about, you know, a series of movies like Twilight. I did not see Twilight. Have you seen. What's the other one that's like Twilight? Sip. Different. Hunger Games. You seen Hunger Games? I saw about 30 minutes. Hunger Games are good. I've seen all those. Those are good movies. And when she came on the screen, like you want to talk about making a star presence? What's her name? Jennifer Lawrence. She looked, you know, striking and, and played the role of hero very well. Yeah, she did. Alrighty. So the Ravens with the big win over the Dolphins. Let me see. Oh, the meat Friday. Grilled ribeyes, strip steaks, filet mignon, lobster tails, and we have sea scallops with pumpkin risotto. All meat and seafood courtesy of Heartland Steak Company. Who has it better than we do?
Dan Patrick
Nobody.
Paul Pabst
All righty. Poll question for hour two is going to be what? Charles Barkley in about 15 minutes from now. Let's see. Lamar Jackson. Running less is a good thing or a bad thing? 69% of the audience say that is a good thing. The Dolphins, according to our audience, need a completely fresh start to start over, burn it all down, rebuild. Man, that seems excessive to me. And that's about 60% of the vote too. And this is a snarky one from Paul. Which job would you want? The LSU head football coach, LSU AD or the governor of Louisiana? Right now, LSU head football coach is barely beating out governor of Louisiana. Well, two of those positions are open right now as Scott Woodward, the athletic director got. Well, I don't know if he got fired, but he. They parted ways. They school. So they don't have a coach. Head coach. They have an interim coach, I guess an interim athletic director and a full time governor. Yes. I feel like if that person who, according to the way people are talking about the governor is the LSU AD's boss. Somehow I feel like if your boss humiliates you like that in a, in a press conference about, you know, food benefits, I would quit. I would be like, you know what? I think I'm good. I'll see you later. I would like to know what my buyout is though, because I'm guessing he has a contract. And here he is. The governor's upset that the athletic director gave, you know, Brian Kelly this huge contract. Now there's a buyout here. Now is there a buyout with the athletic director as well? Yes, Todd, you sign up for a certain amount of criticism when you're in the public eye and I get that. And if the win loss record doesn't.
Dan Patrick
Match up or whatever.
Paul Pabst
But imagine any other job where someone nationally just gets in front, like Seaton was saying and say, we just want to let everyone know.
Dan Patrick
Brian will never, ever give the presentation to the board of directors for this meeting. Never.
Paul Pabst
He's the worst. He screwed it up with the previous.
Dan Patrick
Company and he's never going to be.
Paul Pabst
Able to speak publicly in front of a group of our officers. Ever. Yeah, that was. That's rough. That's rough because I'm guessing the athletic director had no idea the governor was going to be asked anything about football or if he was, was going to go off on the athletic director. And you, you realize that it's almost like the governor wanted to be asked a question about the football team and then he unloaded, you know, hey, I'm fine with Brian Kelly, but we want to get that, that buyout reduced a little bit here. Something friendly here. And that athletic director is not involved in the coaching search. So imagine you're the athletic director and all of a sudden, if you're even watching it live and you're going, oh my God, you know what, let me call home, hun. I think we're done here at lsu. And now they're, you know, Nick Saban said, now check this. I want to make sure I got it right. But I think Nick Saban said the Ole Miss job is better than the LSU and the Florida job. I think he said that today or maybe yesterday because it feels like Lane Kiffin, you know, maybe it's not LSU now because the governor, that would scare me. And then you want to go to Florida. Lane's not going to end up at Penn State. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Marvin, do you think because nine wins at Ole Miss will suffice as opposed to Florida and LSU where they expect the national championships?
Paul Pabst
Well, at some point Florida goes, hey, we're like nine. We need more than that now. Are they expecting a national championship? I hope not. But if you get into the playoffs, as long as you're in like you get included in that, you know, 12 team bunch. I mean, that's what you want as a fan base. We got in And I think Lane Kiffin is a good enough coach to get them nine wins every year. I think he's that good. I hope he doesn't jump to take another job. But he's Lane and you never know. Yeah. Paulie. Nick Saban did an interview yesterday with On3 Sports. He was asked what's the best move for Lane Kiffin. He said jobs that weren't great jobs before are now. Lane is the first name up for Florida, first name up for lsu. He went on to say that back in the day you'd go to those places like LSU or Florida because the roster was better. He said that's not necessarily the case right now that you're going to a better roster. LSU's roster might be equal or better. Yeah. Which means for Lane, staying is better. Yeah. Because you could give him a couple more million dollars, you know, bump him up to $11 million, put him up here with among the highest paid coaches. I think he's out of the top 10 right now. Top paid coaches, but he's a great coach. Matt Rule is staying at Nebraska. He got an extension and I guess there was, there was talk initially when James Franklin got fired. Well, Matt Rule will be on the short list because he's a Penn State guy, friends with the athletic director. But I think that's where you got to draw the line. Don't hire somebody you got to fire. And if you're going to bring in Matt Rulton, what I was told by my college football source is hasn't really proven anything at Nebraska. What makes you think that he's going to be able to do that on a bigger stage, you know, because Nebraska right now just wants to be relevant. Nebraska used to be back in the 70s when you had Coach Osborne there. But you know, they kind of had spurts. They've had little, you know, season here, season there, player here, player there. But they used to get all the offensive linemen. They'd get a great running back and you'd have an option quarterback there. And he had Tom Osborne there. And their big game was Oklahoma. Every year. Well, college football has changed. Are you going to Nebraska? Back then you were playing for a national championship. Now, hey, you're in the Big Ten, kinda. Hey, come on out. You know, with these kids nowadays, they don't care what happened in the 70s, anyone they care about what's happening now. Who do we play, how much do I get paid, what are the uniforms look like? Has that coach coached in the pros? What's my pipe? I mean, this is what every one of those guys thinks of. But Nebraska with Matt Rule, you just want to be relevant. And maybe they're relevant. Ish. Yeah. Paul, from 2016 to 2023, Nebraska didn't have one winning season or one bowl appearance. That's how bad it was. At least Matt rule had them 7 and 6 last year, 6 and 2 this year. It feels better than it is, but. It feels better. But he could have lost to Northwestern, and I wonder if he gets that contract extension. If you just lose to Northwestern. You got USC coming up this weekend. It was that close. So Matt Rule is not going anywhere, at least for a year. And lsu, their. Their job search is still open for business. Usc, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Vandy, Texas, Penn State, and Ohio State. That's probably one of those. When you're saying, hey, I got tickets. What. What game you got? Pay Penn State. When they come to town, you're like, maybe this isn't an appointment game the way we thought it was going to be. Let's see. Anything. Most must win game of the weekend. We'll have that for you as well. Fritzi has rhyme time coming up a little later on. And of course, is much anticipated Halloween sports names as well. Are we changing up any poll questions here for the second hour there? Seaton? Yeah, Just added another one here that Paul just sent over. Who or whom do you believe in more? Oh, wait a minute. You want to guess what the buyout is for the athletic director at LSU? $35,000. All right. Paul, 3.5 million. Marvin, 2.8 million. Todd, 1.5 million. 6.3 million. It's like a coach buyout. Sources close to me tell me Scott Woodward gets 6.3 million to leave. Holy crap. What is going on?
Dan Patrick
I'm applying.
Paul Pabst
Yes. $6.3 million. What the heck, dude? Yeah. So do we have a poll question that we're going to add here? Yeah. Who do you believe in more, 3 and 5 Ravens or the 7 and 1 Colts? Dang. Dang. I'll tell you the other team that's coming. The Texans. I think the Texans are coming. They're three and five as well. They got the Broncos and they're hosting the Broncos. They better start coming week 10. I'm just. I'm just. I'm telling you, I think the Texans. Here they come. Gotta wait one week. Yeah. Yeah. Paul, The Texans are 3 and 4, but they've outscored their opponents by 50 points. They. Everyone kind of. That's another September. Everyone jumped off the bandwagon and stopped paying attention to them and it's a really good defense. It's I think the over under is 40 points in that game. Denver against the Texans. But the Texans are coming. So were the Ravens. So is Charles Barkley. We'll take a break. We're back after this. More phone calls coming up. 877 3DP show. Charles Barkley, hall of Famer, inside the NBA on ESPN. Are you an ESPN employee? Do you get invited to the Christmas party?
Dan Patrick
I. I don't know. I didn't know they had a Christmas party.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. Yeah. That's a big one now. I don't know. You have to go to Bristol Connecticut open bar. I mean, it's a big deal.
Dan Patrick
Well, you know, one. You know, I was talking to Matt Barry and Michael Eves. I've actually never been to the ESPN studio. I want to do that before our relationship started. And I just got busy playing golf every day this summer. But it looks amazing on television, the campus, so. But no, I haven't got invited to the Christmas party. But I do want to go see. I talked to Matt Barry and Michael Lee and my girl Elle Duncan. At some point, I want to get to see that studio on an off day. Not that I want to work or anything. I just want to go see it.
Paul Pabst
Okay. How is your schedule? If you go there, they're going to put you to work.
Dan Patrick
Well, that's why I'm gonna go do in the summer. Or I can just. Hey, there's nothing going on except football. Every day. I'll make sure there's no basketball or anything going on.
Paul Pabst
It doesn't matter. If you go in that building, you're going to be on ESPN News or 2 or NFL Live or, you know.
Dan Patrick
I'm brushing up on my Spanish so I can do this. Four days. I got to get ready for. I got to get ready for the Super Bowl.
Paul Pabst
You guys haven't missed a step, though. Seems like, you know, gang's all back together and now. Has your approach to the NBA changed at all since you're now on espn?
Dan Patrick
No, it's been great. You know, the guys at espn. Dan, I said this, and I wasn't kissing anybody ass. You know, I ain't gonna kiss nobody ass. That's the best thing about having mine. I don't have to listen to anybody. It's an honor and a privilege to work with espn because every kid grew up wanting to be on spn. They did. Like every kid who's ever touched any type of ball, if they're being honest. If you go on espn, you feel like you've made it. So it's an honor to work for them. And we've only did three shows, and they've been great. They left us alone. You know, the only thing that sucked about it is in game one on NBC. We had a great double overtime game, which was awesome. Then the next night, we had Wimby go crazy. We had Steph go crazy for us, and we didn't even get to talk about that because of this gambling bs. And that was the only downer. But other than that, it's been fantastic.
Paul Pabst
Now, I know you guys talked a little bit about it, but what bothers you the most about this investigation, Whether it's the poker games or prop bets or, you know, anything stand out that would, would alarm you a little bit more. Being a former player, now an analyst.
Dan Patrick
Well, it all alarms me first and foremost. Number one, if you're rigging poker games, especially some of the guys are your friends, that's a bad thing. But obviously when players are out here point shaving, basically what it is, you know, you can come up with prop bets or gamble that. Listen, man, if you're out here shaving points, that's just bad. You know, we've all, Dan, we've all been so blessed to make. We make more money in one month than most people gonna make their entire lifetime. And all you gotta do is play basketball. We're the luckiest people in the world. I say this about sports, man. I love sports. But we are so lucky and blessed. We get to do something so stupid and we make more money. Think about Dan. We, most of us get paid well back then you get paid twice a month and you make more money during that period than most people going to make in their lifetime. The money these guys are making today. And to do something, hopefully, like I say, I'm hoping all these allegations are not true. But if you did something this stupid, it's just, it's just, it's just stupid. Plain and simple.
Paul Pabst
Do you get in these poker games that are held outside of a casino?
Dan Patrick
I'm not a poker guy, first of all. I would never gamble at somebody house. I'm not going to lie.
Paul Pabst
Unless it's your house. Charles froze up there. Yeah. Now. Yeah. You froze up again.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I don't, I don't believe in gambling at people houses. And I, and I, I don't go to casino.
Paul Pabst
I.
Dan Patrick
Look, you know, you know, I gamble a lot, but I don't play poker. But no, I don't go to people's house and gamble, Dan. And nobody's coming to my house to gamble either.
Paul Pabst
Talking to Charles Barkley, NBA on espn, I almost said tnt.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it's been weird. Ernie, Ernie screwed. He said he only did it one time. Yeah, I knew that was gonna happen, but he only did it one time in three shows. So it's been pretty good.
Paul Pabst
If Austin Reeves was the, let's say that Luca and LeBron weren't on the Lakers and it was Austin Reeves team. Are these numbers sustainable for a player like that?
Dan Patrick
Impossible. Because he could get.
Paul Pabst
Froze up again. You know what? Chuck will take a break. We'll see if we can get a Better connection there. Yeah, he froze up a couple times there. All right, let me take a break. Well, let's try it again. Charles Barkley, Inside the NBA on espn. When I last spoke to you, I asked if Austin Reeves, could he be the number one guy, could he put up these numbers on a team?
Dan Patrick
No, because they're going to make adjustments.
Paul Pabst
He froze up again.
Dan Patrick
That's crazy, isn't it, Dan?
Paul Pabst
Yeah. Okay, you're good now.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Teams are going to start making adjustments. So his 40 going to come down to 25 or more, you know, because I don't think he's that type of guy who's going to get 40 a night. But right now he's got like the triple yellow caution, like can shoot anytime he wants to, but as teams adjust, they're going to make adjustments on him. He's a really good player. But also to go out there and get four tonight is really hard. I mean, well, because nobody's ever done it. I mean, I mean, Nobody's ever averaged 40 points in the NBA other than probably Wilt Chamberlain back in the day. But teams are going to make adjustment and make him pass the ball more, which he's comfortable with. But he's a heck of a player.
Paul Pabst
Is there any basketball players future you would trade for Victor Wembanyama's future?
Dan Patrick
Well, the only question about Victor is health. There's never. I mean, there's never been a question about him playing. It's just, can he stay healthy? You know, these guys who have these very unique bodies. I mean, and he probably got the most unique body we've ever seen in the NBA, other than Shaquille. Like Shaquille, when we, me and Kevin McHale talk about it, when the first time we saw Shaquille o', Neal, we couldn't believe how big and athletic he was. He's probably. And I met Will, but I never got to see him play. But Shaquille had the most unique body I've ever seen in the NBA because how big and strong and fast he was. But Victor is different because you look at Manute Bowl, George Morrison, Mark Eden, guys who are like 7, 3, 7 4, they didn't have this type of athletic ability. They couldn't shoot threes and dribble and things like that. So he's probably the most unique player we've had in the NBA, and we never had anything like him.
Paul Pabst
If Ralph Sampson was playing today, Ralph Sampson could be maybe a Wembanyama kind of player.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But Ralph never had the dribbling skills.
Paul Pabst
Well, they didn't let him. Now, now they're saying to a big guy, you, we want you to handle the ball. Shoot the threes. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
First of all, my. My note. I forgot.
Paul Pabst
Todd, why don't we see if we get Charles just on the phone here? Because I. I don't. Froze. No. There you are again. Let me try it one more time. And then if not, we'll. I'll just. We'll try another. Another day.
Dan Patrick
So if Ralph Sampson played in the NBA today, would he be comparable to Victor? Only if he was able to dribble and shoot threes like Victor does. But Victor is the most unique player we've had in the NBA since Shaquille.
Paul Pabst
Can you see where Steph Curry would be the second option on the Warriors a couple of years from now, that that would extend his career. But he might not be the number one guy.
Dan Patrick
Well, they would have to bring in a big time free agent. I think right now they're stuck with the team. They have the only Question is Victor Kaminga, Is that his name? Victor Kaminga.
Paul Pabst
Jonathan Kaminga.
Dan Patrick
Jonathan Kaminga. Excuse me. So he's the only, he's the wild card because we've seen how far that team can go with Draymond and Jeremy Butler. They are first round team. The only question is can Jonathan Kaminga take the next step? Because in the west you're going to have to be okc. You're going to have to beat Houston, you're going to have to beat the joker. So can he grow enough to get them past the second round of the playoffs? That's the only question with the warriors. Because Steph is clearly he's on the downside of his career. You can't expect him to play like he did that game last week in June. I mean that's just physically impossible because everybody's fresh right now, Dan. Everybody's fresh. But you can't expect a 37 year old to go to November, December, January, averaging 35 points a game. That's just not going to happen and get through three or four rounds in the playoffs.
Paul Pabst
Michael Jordan in his interview with Mike Tirico was talking about load management. Back in the day. You guys took great pride in playing every single game. What do you, how do you think today's player will react to what Michael Jordan said about load management?
Dan Patrick
Well, first of all, we don't care what they think. Dan Menu have discussed loads of manage on this show for years. It sucks. Load management. These guys can play basketball two days in a row. We played basketball two days in a row. They got better equipment. They got better equipment. They got better medicals, they got cold plunges, they got hyperbaric chambers, they got private planes. Now if we can play back to back games and Chuck Taylor's and things like that and fly commercial. I flew commercial my first four years in the NBA. We didn't have ice plunge, we had ice bags. We didn't have hyperbaric chambers. So if we could do that for $2 million a year, they damn sure can do it for $40 million a year. And Dan, we've said it before, it's interesting how it took up a life of his own because it was Michael Jordan. You asked me last time. I can't remember. I love doing your show. First of all, I must love doing your damn show. You make me get up at six o' clock in the morning. I want to kick you in Todd's ass. I just want you to know that it's six o' clock in the morning. But we, we you asked me what was a bigger problem in the NBA. All the threes are load management. And I said to you quite easily, is load management. It says, when Michael says it, it's like just turned into a wildfire. It's been a problem for years. And let me tell you something, Dan. It's going to really be a problem going forward because we got guys making $70 million a year, God bless them, that's just on them. But when we start having guys making 80, 90, $100 million a year and they says, yeah, I played last night, I can't play tomorrow. We can't just keep crapping on the fans saying that. That's just disrespectful. Number one is disrespectful to the game, but it's really disrespectful to the fan base if I saved up all my money. Expensive as tickets. Are some of these stars only going to come to east coast, west coast one time a year and you're making $90 million and you can't play basketball two years, two days in a row? That's 100% wrong.
Paul Pabst
I agree with you. I said the same thing. My reaction to Jordan was, this is obvious. Of course he's going to be against load management. And it makes his reputation stand even taller because he didn't take games off. He tried to play in every single game. So there wasn't any news in this. And you're right. If Mike says it, all of a sudden load management's a topic again. And I'm like, these guys today don't care. They, they don't care what Michael Jordan says about, oh, I'm going to play every game now because Mike said so.
Dan Patrick
Well, and the thing that bothers me, I wish they would tell the truth instead of just saying, you hear people saying, well, it's not healthy or things like that. Just say, I want it. And listen, this is a fair thing. On their point. If I'm able to play basketball two or three more years, I'm probably going to make an extra 50 to $100 million. I mean, depending on who you are. Even if you say, if you're a star who, like, if you play an extra three years, you're going to make a minimum of probably a hundred million dollars. Dan, if you can add three years at the end of your career, you're probably going to be making 30 to 50, $60 million. And I understand that. But just say, hey, I'm trying to extend my career. Don't just tell, Don't Try to tell me it's not healthy. I've seen reports out there saying it's not healthy to play. Dude, guys have played basketball back to back their entire life.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, I. I'm. I'm with you. And I understand this, because if you said to Larry Bird, hey, why don't you do load management? You might be able to extend your career three more years. Or I said that to Steve Nash, you know, would they do load management if they knew I got a chance to play a few more years here?
Dan Patrick
And I. And I understand that argument, but what Michael said, man, these people only gonna get to see the great ones every now and then, like Michael Jordan. Karl Malone was only going to come to Philly one time a year. He's only going to go to New York one time a year. Maddie Jones has only come to Philly one time a year. That's not fair. Like, yo, you got to play in New York. You got to. Can you imagine in the day if Magic Johnson had said, hey, we played. I'm gonna pick some crap. Okay? I shouldn't say this. I know I'm gonna get in trouble. Can you imagine if Magic Johnson said, we plan. I played in Brooklyn last night. I'm not gonna play against the Celtics the next day. Just think about how stupid that sounds. I played in Indiana and I apologize to Brooklyn now. We played the Pacers last night. I'm not going to play against the Celtics tonight. Can you. Can you imagine?
Paul Pabst
Imagine David Stern.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Can you imagine if Larry Bird said, hey, we played the Clippers last night. I'm going to sit out this Lakers game tomorrow. Can you imagine how that stupid that sounds?
Paul Pabst
You won the MVP in 1993.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paul Pabst
If I said you could trade in the MVP, but the Suns win the championship.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I would rather win the championship. But, you know, nobody can take away what I accomplished that year.
Paul Pabst
You know, it's the reason why I bring it up. Cam Newton said that he would rather win the NFL mvp. Like, he wouldn't trade his MVP for a Super bowl win.
Dan Patrick
Well. Well, we all have our thing. Like, I wanted to win a championship for the people of Phoenix. That I've said. That's my only regret, not winning the championship in Phoenix, because, you know, this is where I live. These people have always treated me amazing, like Philly. That's no disrespect to Philly, but they've already won a championship. That's my only regret of my career is not winning a championship for the Phoenix Suns fans. But, yo, man, that year I was the best basketball player in the world. We had the best record in the world. I like these. That's the one thing that annoys me about espn. I'm not gonna lie. They have this stupid argument every year about the. The MVP that Michael should have won more or LeBron should have won more. It's not who's the best player. It's the person who had the best year. It's like. Let me use an analogy. You're trying to tell me when Magic and Bird were going back and forth on MVPs, one of them was better than the other. No, it's whoever had the best regular season. But now guys like to start. Like, LeBron should have won. Like Derrick Rose was the best player in the world that year he won mvp. The Chicago Bulls had the best record in the Eastern Conference. The years Karl Malone won the mvp. The Utah Jazz had the best record in the NBA. Like Shaq. Shaq always gets annoyed at Steve Nash. Was Steve Nash as good as Shaquille? No. But the Phoenix Suns had the best record in the NBA both years he won mvp. I don't think Steve Nash would. Steve will. Nash will tell you, no, I was not better than Kobe Bryant. But those two years I had a better regular season. It's a regular season award.
Paul Pabst
Did you think you were better than Jordan? Not having just a better year than Jordan in 93, but you were better than Jordan?
Dan Patrick
I did not realize that I was not as good as Michael Jordan until I played him in the Finals. Because when I got traded to Phoenix, I told the guys, we're going to the Finals and we're going to play the Bulls. That's the first thing I told them when I got traded to Phoenix. And I said, the only reason Michael Jordan. I felt like it was just as good. I said, the only reason he's better. He got Scottie Pippen, Dennis Robin, Horace Grant, guys like that. Paxton, bj. He had a hell of a team. I said, but now I got Kevin Johnson. Dan Marley says to Barlow, Mark West. And it wasn't until after game two that I realized that he was better than me because I had 50 and he had 55. I told the guys, we're going to win tonight as we gonna win the game tonight. And I did. I had. I think I had 47 to be exact, but he had like 52. That was the first time because, like, even when I played against Magic and Bird, I was like, I'm just as good as these guys. But they got James Worthy and Kareem and Bird McHale in parish and Dennis Johnson. But I don't think any great player. I think Karl Malone think he's the greatest. I think Patrick Ewing. I think all. You can't be a great player unless you think you're better than everybody else because you have to have supreme confidence. But, like, there's a lot of guys who are delusional. They're just good. Just. All right, good player. They think they're better than they are. But there's no great player, there's no hall of Fame type player who don't think he's the best player out there every night.
Paul Pabst
LeBron's not out there. You said that. He's got an old guy injury.
Dan Patrick
He just old. Everybody gets old. Yeah, he says a sciatica. You know what that means, Dan? Yeah, I know. His back hurt. All old people back hurt, then all old people back hurt. You can. You can dress it up like a sciatica. You can come up with all these medical terms. LeBron is old.
Paul Pabst
Oh, you froze up again. Thank you, Charles. We'll talk to you soon.
Dan Patrick
All right, man. Have a great one.
Paul Pabst
Okay. Not sure what the connection was on our end or on his end. Yes, Paul, the I team has done a little bit of research, refreshingly, and found out there is a zoom issue nationwide. Usually I'd like to blame someone here. It appears it may be outside of our building. A zoom issue? Yes, a zoomish issue. All right. Well, Chuck, thank you for being patient there. By the way, sliding into the weekend, nothing like Kings of Wine Sliders Sunday. Enjoy the NFL games with friends and family and enjoy Kings Hawaiian coming up this weekend. Sliding into the weekend, you got Dodgers and Blue Jays. Yamamoto back on the bump, as they like to say, and could imagine if he has another complete game, because I don't know if there's been a Dodger player that's going to stand out to win the mvp. But if Yamamoto would have a complete game and force it to game seven and they win in game seven, I'd be hard pressed not to give it to him. Hard pressed. So he's pitching tonight and the whole Dodger nation is on his shoulders. College football. Vandy and Texas. Boy, this is so good. By the way, Arch Manning, everybody had an offer for him when he came out of high school. Diego Pavia had zero Division 1 offers coming out of high school. They will meet up in Austin, Oklahoma and Tennessee. That's spicy as well. NFL Chiefs in the Bills, according to our buddy Nick Wright. This is the Bills Super Bowl. Colts against the steelers. The colts point differential right now is 116 points. That's through eight games since 1970. Here are the quarterbacks to accomplish that feat to have at least 116 points more than the opposition. Luke, thanks for holding. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. Good morning. Good morning. You know, we not only have a Friday fritzi today, we have a Friday the 13th Fritzi. And it just got me thinking a little bit. We. Over the years, I think all of the fans of the Dan patrick show have gotten to know Todd a little bit and say this is a unique guy. And you guys talked about it just a little bit yesterday, you know, working with medispn. But do any. Do you or any of the Dan EDS have just a clear first memory of my goodness, this person that I work with sees the world in a very different lens than I. And just you get kind of a first incident where you're like, man, this Todd person is something else. I don't know if there was a moment I remember being around Todd and he was always interesting, entertaining, spoke really fast, good worker, but I didn't know it would translate to putting him on the radio. Same thing with mclovin when mclovin started coming up and hanging around us. And then I remember saying to Paulie, I said, I'm gonna put mclovin on the show. And he goes, really? I said, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think he's interesting enough, smart enough, quirky enough. I had a better indication with mclovin and I don't know why than I did Todd. But then once I realized what I had with Todd, no other show in america had that and that. But. But that doesn't mean they're not trying to get a Todd, fritz or mclovin. So I've been very fortunate that those gambles paid off. Final hour on the way. Todd has his Halloween sports names and rhyme time. Yeah, you're going to get a whole lot more of fritzi here.
