J. Stu
Ho ho ho. Covino and Rich in for Dan Patrick.
Rich Davis
What's up buddy?
J. Stu
My sweet holiday shirt that I got at Target. Thank you.
Rich Davis
They do have good holiday shirts.
J. Stu
My Christmas story T shirt Rich says is overrated. But speaking of things we sleep on, we give props to the packers after a big win Monday night. Don't be sleeping on them. But I think we established something. Rich. It's good to be slept on. It really is sometimes good to be slept with people. All right, yeah, let's end on that.
Rich Davis
Let's do that.
J. Stu
CNR on fsr. Everything at Covinoenrich have an action packed hour for you. We're gonna talk a lot about Christmas gifts and sports toys and re to Christmas movies. But this hour is brought to you by tirerack.com the official tire expert and retailer of the Dan Patrick show. Go to tirerack.com dan try the tire decision guide and see the full full line of Goodyear tires special offers, free road hazard protection and mobile tire installation. Tirek.com way Tire buying should be two quick questions.
Rich Davis
Then we're going to get to some R rated Christmas movies. We'll talk some sports toys, some NFL do you have a problem with Lamar Jackson saying that he's going to check out Beyonce at halftime? Because I think he's serious. If you don't know Christmas day tomorrow, you got the NFL. I think they're looking to humiliate the NBA. I think they're looking to step on basketball. Be like we I own every holiday suckers. I think the NFL is coming out with Mariah Carey who's singing all I want for Christmas is you. And that leads in to the Chiefs, Steelers, two playoff teams. Then later in the day, yeah, I got the Ravens at Houston. And he was a, who's a Houstonian queen bee. Beyonce is going to be doing an extended halftime and Lamar Jackson's like, yo, I'm checking it out. Sorry, coach Harbaugh. He said I'm going out there to watch. First time seeing Beyonce perform and it's at our game. That's dope. I'm going out there, I'm watching. Sorry, fellas.
J. Stu
I do Have a problem with it.
Rich Davis
What if they're winning by 20?
J. Stu
Then it's more acceptable, but it's like the Giants partying on a boat. It's really. We'll never forget that Odell Beckham Jr. Victor Cruz storyline. It's like, yeah, it wouldn't have been a deal if they won the game. If something goes wrong or there's a lack of focus, it's all going to lead back to that. So I wouldn't put myself in that position to give anybody ammunition against me in a big game like that. Beyonce's not that important.
Rich Davis
You know what?
J. Stu
Like, I'm not watching for people.
Rich Davis
And I'll be home chilling, playing, stat. Boy, get the hell out of here. You're not going to watch Beyonce perform at halftime when you're sitting at home on Christmas Day.
J. Stu
I mean, I think she's hot. I'm not into her music or anything.
Mark Ramsey
That's exactly right. I've always said that I appreciate her as an artist, and I know that she makes good music, I guess, but it's just not my thing.
Rich Davis
I J. Stew Agree 100%. I think Beyonce is more of a pop culture icon than someone whose music I love. Right.
Mark Ramsey
Justin Timberlake falls in the same category for me. I appreciate him as an artist. I just don't like his music.
Rich Davis
But to say you're not gonna watch, like, what was it a year ago? Was it Thanksgiving or Christmas a year ago?
J. Stu
I'm ready for her jelly. Just not the music where we watched.
Rich Davis
Remember we all watched Dolly Parton at the Cowboys game and, like, and then.
Mark Ramsey
There was some creepy. There's a lot of social media creeps out there.
J. Stu
Creeps came out. Rich was one of them.
Rich Davis
But my point is, you're sitting around on Christmas Day watching the football game, you're going to turn off halftime.
J. Stu
No, but I'm not, like, tuning in for that.
Rich Davis
It's a pop culture moment, so I was going to be watching if I.
J. Stu
Were playing in the game. I think your head's got to be in the game. So. I do have a problem with Lamar Jackson doing that. I do.
Mark Ramsey
What you're referring to, Covino, is optics. Right. So remember Evan McPherson at the super bowl that the Bengals went to a couple years ago? He stayed and watched Eminem and those guys.
J. Stu
Yeah.
Mark Ramsey
And then the Bengals lost. So, like, if you lose, you're just opening yourself to criticism that you weren't fully focused on the game.
J. Stu
Nailed it. Even if that's not true, that's how it looks.
Rich Davis
Optics are no new thing in sports, I always thought my favorite example was only because I'm a stupid Mets fan. Remember when Cesares. Remember when Joanna Cesvitus was, like, the rage for the Mets for a couple years? Cesspedis had a hip injury, and it was like, when is he coming back? And all Metro's like, yo, get this guy back on the field. And there's all these videos of him golfing. You can't. You can't optically golf. You might be able to.
J. Stu
Optics matter. You can't be like my brother sending me pictures of yourself on vacation when you owe me money. Optics matter. And I think it matters in a big game like this, his priority. I get it. He wants to see her dancing around all the single ladies. He wants to see the bugaboo. He wants to see her do her queen bee thing. I get it. But there's a time and place. This isn't it. So has he earned it? He's a great player.
Rich Davis
So you're. What you're saying. I think it's.
J. Stu
It's bad timing. It's a bad look. It's just not necessary.
Rich Davis
You're saying Lamar Jackson isn't ready for this jelly?
J. Stu
I don't think he should be making time for that.
Rich Davis
Last time Beyonce performed at halftime for all the stat boys out there, the Ravens won a Super Bowl. So maybe Ravens, Beyonce go to go together.
J. Stu
Well, you asked. You asked me if I think it's a good look. I don't think it's a good look. Do I like Lamar Jackson? Yeah, he's great. Do I think he should be worried about Beyonce? No, he should be worried about football. Like, imagine if in our commercial breaks, you, like, ran down the hall. I don't know, like, something was on the TV in the kitchen, and you were, like, there the whole time. And then you run back in at the last second, and you start flubbing your words the whole segment. Or you don't know what we're talking about. You mean what Richard does all the time? What would you do all the time? It lacks focus. It's not like it's gonna wear him out or, like, throw him, but, like, he's not aligning with. Yeah, it's the old saying. Head in the game. Head in the game. Keep your head in the game. That's it. Your head's not in the game. If you're watching Beyonce's. It's not like. It's not like she's right outside the locker room, and he can, like, peek his head out and watch. He has to like there's a journey from the locker room to wherever he would be watching.
Rich Davis
He's insinuating that he's going to be huge. The insinuation that he'd be skipping any type of post. I'm sorry, like halftime adjustments or talks or chats or anything, but I don't know the level of seriousness. But you're right. McPherson State. There have been players that have somehow watched a halftime show. It's a regular season game with ramifications. That's also a thing. They're tied right now, I believe. Right. With with the Steelers that division.
J. Stu
That being said, what if. Because didn't they double the length of halftime? Yeah. So what if he goes? What if he like runs in for half of it and then comes out for half of it? It is technically like an actual halftime. Well, if you think of it that way.
Rich Davis
If the Steelers lose the early game, which they're three and a half point dogs to the Chiefs, if the Steele is losing, Baltimore wins. Baltimore now is in first place in the AFC North. So there are stakes in this game.
Mark Ramsey
Well, and the stakes that you're not thinking about. Somebody in the studio has Lamar Jackson as his fantasy quarterback in his super bowl tomorrow.
Rich Davis
How you feeling about that?
Mark Ramsey
He needs to think of those guys, not Beyonce's rump.
Rich Davis
I mean, it's hard not to, but I get it. Lamar Jackson tomorrow, everyone will be watching because it's just on. Except for Kavino. That's when he dips away for some eggnog.
J. Stu
Bo Rumpa pump bump. No, I'll be watching, but I'm not like sitting there like, oh, I hope she sings.
Rich Davis
Yeah, agreed.
J. Stu
Like I don't care about that at all. And the fact that they're extending it 15 minutes for her is a little eye rolling for me.
Rich Davis
If you're watching, you'll watch someone bounce plates on their head at halftime.
J. Stu
Yeah, I like that. That's more entertaining to me.
Rich Davis
I mean people watch things just done.
J. Stu
I'm impressed by that.
Rich Davis
It's not simple.
J. Stu
Well, anyway, that's. What are your thoughts on Lamar Jackson? Hit us up at Covinoenrich at Fox Sports Radio. We got J. Stu on the phones at 877-99-FOX.
Rich Davis
But J Stu nailed it with the word that we love. We love to talk about it in the sports world because it is so true optics when a player's injured and you see them doing other things. When, when, when you see a guy lose a big fight or a big game and he's smiling with the other team Or I always remember one of the years the Patriots lost the Super Bowl. I remember within an hour or so, like, Gronk was doing the worm at an after party. I'm like, they just lost the super bowl and he's doing the worm.
J. Stu
He does a hell of a worm, though.
Rich Davis
And I'm thinking to myself, I mean.
J. Stu
If you did a worm like that, you'd want to do it.
Rich Davis
There's fans crying that the Patriots lost, and here's Gronk doing the worm. So keep in mind, these guys are human. They have interests. They want to do things. But optics, optics, optics, you can't. It's, you know, you can't call out sick from work and then, you know, go on Instagram posting how you know you're out on the town. You're right. Your brother can't be posting how. He's in, you know, I'm in the Bahamas with my girl, yo, and he owes you five grand, you know, like you. You can't be. You have to optically think these things through.
J. Stu
Quick phone call on 87799 on Fox.
Rich Davis
Who we got? Go to Rick in Tennessee. What's up, Rick? Hey, guys. Not a lot. Hey, I had one just to reverse on this for y'all.
J. Stu
Yeah.
Mark Ramsey
Hey, what if.
Rich Davis
What if Beyonce was seen on the sidelines watching Lamar play, Lamar playing, and then at halftime she screwed up? Would that be bad optics or she did better at halftime because of it?
J. Stu
No, I don't think so. You know why? Because she's not the focal point. Like, it's the game. She's at the game.
Rich Davis
That's true.
J. Stu
You're not at the Beyonce show. That's the way I look at it. Like, you can't help but watch the game, and all she's doing is singing a song.
Rich Davis
I mean, keep in mind, Travis Kelsey has dodged every bullet because since he's dated Taylor Swift, they've won a Super Bowl. They have one loss this year. If that train got off the track, do you know how much.
J. Stu
Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up.
Mark Ramsey
Didn't he go to Brazil for the bye week?
Rich Davis
Yeah, he. Like last year. Fans are waiting. They're. They're. They're waiting for their favorite stars to mess up in that capacity. I've seen. I've seen players on teams that are struggling posting during the bi week. Like, getting a week away with my girl in a cabin. And there's players like, you should be focused, bro. You should be focused. Like, it's all optics. Jstu nailed it with that simple word optics. And listen, if Lamar and The Ravens win 31 13, and the Texans look, you know, mediocre, and it's. And it's a pretty solid win, I don't think anyone's going to care if Lamar Jackson peaks his hat. He's like, yo, Queen B. Yeah, but he announced it.
J. Stu
But he's brought attention to it.
Rich Davis
Yeah. If they lose, then, you know, it's a different story. Now, I want to bring one up, one thing up, because it is the holiday season, and yesterday I told you about how I watched Home Alone with my kids. Last night, we watched Home Alone 2 and My Hot take. And I'm firm on this Fear me, I say Home Alone 2 lost in New York. Just as good, maybe even more entertaining at times than the first one. Home alone 2, fan freaking tastic.
J. Stu
I thought you were gonna say the Bird lady is actually Piers Morgan.
Rich Davis
That is another hot take.
J. Stu
Why don't you pull a Rob Parker and say, it's better than It's a Wonderful Life?
Rich Davis
What is. Yeah, sure. You don't think Home Alone's better than a wonderful, best Christmas movie of all time?
J. Stu
You think.
Rich Davis
Am I wrong? You're making a joke.
J. Stu
I'm making a joke because you're smoking.
Rich Davis
Home alone 2 is way better than It's a Wonderful Life.
J. Stu
Yeah. Okay.
Rich Davis
Marry them.
J. Stu
Yeah. Everybody here?
Rich Davis
What do you say? What are you, 95 years old?
J. Stu
Oh, yeah. It's a classic, Rich. You're right. You're right, man. 100 years from now, everybody's gonna be talking about Home Alone, too. I'm not saying it sucks. I've seen it.
Rich Davis
I like it. I think they will be talking about.
J. Stu
Yeah, sure, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
For real now. I'm being serious. I want to strangle you. You don't think people could be talking about Home Alone?
J. Stu
Hey, dude, you're. You're alone on this one. I'm not saying it's a bad movie. But you're gonna say it's better than It's Wonderful Life. You're a bonehead.
Rich Davis
That's.
J. Stu
It's wonderful.
Rich Davis
We're still talking about it. I think if people still watch it.
J. Stu
Because it's a classic.
Rich Davis
I think if you surveyed 100 people.
J. Stu
If you survey a hundred idiots that believe what you believe. Yes. But if you. If you ask people with a brain, they're gonna be like, yeah, it's a good movie, but it's not a class.
Rich Davis
If you serve it, 100 people at Shady Acres Retirement Home, they might say, It's a Wonderful Life.
J. Stu
Dude, there's a reason it still aired around Christmas time after all these years. What is it?
Rich Davis
1940 something cheap syndication.
J. Stu
What year did that come out?
Rich Davis
The Home Alone 2 is epic.
J. Stu
It's a good movie. I'm glad you liked it.
Rich Davis
You really think It's a Wonderful life?
J. Stu
Yeah. You dunce. 46. 1946. We're still talking about it.
Mark Ramsey
This segment of the Dan Patrick show will always be known in 100 years as rich Alone.
J. Stu
It's a good movie.
Rich Davis
I'm glad.
J. Stu
You're like, prisoner of the moment. You had a great experience.
Rich Davis
It's a good movie from 1992. It's not like a new movie where I'm like, hey, guys, this new movie is really gonna catch on. Home Alone and Home Alone 2.
J. Stu
I'm glad you really love the bird lady, Rich. I'm glad it resonated with it's not It's a Wonderful Life Plaza Tim Curry.
Rich Davis
Can I. Can I tell you the one part of this movie I did want to bring up? I didn't think. I didn't think I was gonna be fighting with this moron about an old black and white movie being as good as Home Alone.
J. Stu
That doesn't mean it's not good, dummy. But that's like you telling me you saw a movie last night. But it's better than the wizard of Oz. It's like, it's not. It's a good movie, but it's not.
Rich Davis
Better than It's a Wonderful Life. That's a good movie.
J. Stu
It's a classic Christmas movie.
Rich Davis
Mary angel gets Its wings.
J. Stu
Is Wicked better than the wizard of Ozrich?
Rich Davis
Visually, yes, but not. Not, you know, it's a great movie. It's a fan fiction prequel. I love both.
J. Stu
Home Alone 2 is not even in the same conversation as a wicked. Home Alone 2 is a good movie.
Rich Davis
The holiday movie, dude. And it's fantastic. It would be on the top of many people's list. I was going to bring up that I think there's a part of the movie that infuriates me. And the more I watch, I. You ever see a Facebook memory pop up and you're like, I still feel that way.
J. Stu
Is it a cheap. Uncle Frank is. I can't stand.
Rich Davis
I saw a Facebook memory pop up and I was like, I'm so glad my opinion has not only not changed, it is firmer that Kevin's brother Buzz is a piece of trash. It is so. And the family, I think. I think the whole McAllister family sucks ass. I think they're all terrible.
J. Stu
Uncle Frank's the worst.
Rich Davis
They're the worst. So Kevin goes to this show, a school concert. You've seen the movie. It's better than It's a Wonderful Life. Kevin goes to the school concert. His older moronic brother Buzz.
J. Stu
Buzz. Buzz. Have you seen Buzz's girlfriend? Woof woof.
Rich Davis
Buzz was honestly just like a chubby turd. No one likes Buzz.
J. Stu
He had a sweet flat top.
Mark Ramsey
He did.
Rich Davis
He had a Howie Long haircut.
J. Stu
He had a Brian Bosworth. So, Buzz, how come none of those siblings look alike?
Rich Davis
Buzz is playing the air drums on Kevin's head with those little candles. Act like an ass, humiliating his younger brother. Everyone is Christmas time. It's fun. And everyone in the crowd, including his terrible Uncle Frank.
J. Stu
Frank's the worst.
Rich Davis
Is laughing. Kevin is humiliated in a school setting. Then he shoves Buzz. And of course everyone falls.
J. Stu
Let me tell you.
Rich Davis
And then Kevin's supposed to apologize.
J. Stu
I've been in. I've been in chorus. I was in chorus most of my school career. It's not easy to get a solo at a concert, especially a Christmas show.
Rich Davis
Kevin worked hard for me.
J. Stu
He worked hard for that.
Rich Davis
And then he had to go home and apologize to his whole family. Buzz is the worst. Buzz sucks.
J. Stu
Beat that.
Rich Davis
You know what else does It's a Wonderful Life when you compare it to this movie?
J. Stu
Sure. All right. Well, speaking of movies. Sure. Home Alone 2 is a great one. No question about it. But I want to talk about the best R rated Christmas movies. Is Christmas Eve. Hanukkah's tomorrow in Hollis, Queens. It's Christmas Eve. I'm Christmas Steve. Steve Covino. Rich Davis in for Dan Patrick. Day two of the Dan Patrick holiday hat trick. And I imagine some sort of Jacob Marley, Ebenezer Scrooge type of hat is.
Rich Davis
Your Dan Patrick hat trick. V. The Marley and Marley Moo.
J. Stu
So let's continue with the movie talk. And then we're gonna talk Christmas sports, toys, and Mike Tyson next hour.
Rich Davis
Mike Tyson. That's gonna be a lot of fun.
J. Stu
So let this be a reminder that we have a bonus podcast called Over Promised that you could listen to and watch. You could watch it on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page.
Rich Davis
Watching it is so much better because it really is. It really is a fun watch because we have video elements and everything. It's like. It's like a TV show. A video podcast called Over Promise. Kavino's right. Well worth the watch. And this is a good reminder to watch it because we sort of went over this a couple weeks ago. But it's worth readdressing being that it is Christmas Eve and it's when Rich.
J. Stu
And I agree it's fact. And we agree on 4 of the 5 best R rated Christmas movies.
Rich Davis
Is that your stomach growling?
J. Stu
Yeah, I'm hungry. I didn't have any breakfast.
Rich Davis
Goodness. That was heard around the country. That was a, that was like the, that was like the, the radiator in Kevin's basement in Home Alone.
J. Stu
That's exactly what it was like. So we agree on 4 of the 5. Want to know what you think? Dan Patrick, FOX Sports Radio Nation.
Rich Davis
Want to go over the list next?
J. Stu
We'll give you our top five rated.
Rich Davis
R, by the way. Rated R. This is not the fun ones you can watch with the kids. We're not talking about It's a Wonderful Life or Elf or Home Alone or the Grinch. These are the movies that have some holiday heart, but they're rated R. There might be a little nudity, there might be bad language. The rated R holiday movies, there is a clear, I think, top five. And the fact that Kavino and I agree on four of the five means that that's amazing. This is a list that you guys have to jot down. And we'll do it next right here. Kavino and Rich in for the great Dan Patrick. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports.
Mark Ramsey
Talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app.
Rich Davis
Search FSR to listen live.
J. Stu
Hey, it's Steve Covino and I'm Rich Davis and together we're Covino and Rich on FOX Sports Radio.
Rich Davis
You can catch us weekdays from 5 to 7pm Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and of course, the iHeartRadio app.
J. Stu
Why should you listen to Covino and Rich?
Rich Davis
We talk about everything, life, sports, relationships, what's going on in the world.
J. Stu
We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss.
Rich Davis
And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right?
J. Stu
So check us out. We like to get you involved too. Take your phone calls, chop it up, as they say.
Rich Davis
I'd say the most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio, maybe the most interactive show on planet Earth.
J. Stu
Be sure to check out Covino and Rich live on Fox Sports radio and the iHeartradio app from 5 to 7pm Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific.
Rich Davis
And if you miss any of the live show, just search Covino and Rich wherever you get your podcast. And of course, on social media, that's Covino and Rich.
J. Stu
Mmm. Happy holidays.
Rich Davis
Kelly Clarkson, right? Who threw some shade at her ex husband?
J. Stu
I like how Rich pretended to not know, but he's like her biggest fan.
Rich Davis
I do love Kelly Clarkson. Why are you making it sound like this? Shame in that I'm not too cool like you are.
J. Stu
I'm calling out the fact that you pretended to not know.
Rich Davis
Sorry.
J. Stu
I know you love her.
Rich Davis
Sorry it's not Limp Bizkit.
J. Stu
You mean Limp Christmas. Christmas.
Rich Davis
I just want to make sure because I think this is one of those songs that breaks the Christmas code. And I saw that she threw some shade at her ex husband. And when you have kids, I know there's a lot of people living that divorce life where you try your hardest not to throw shade at your ex. I know. It's not always easy. She posted a picture.
J. Stu
Did you just give me a Trump right there? I know.
Rich Davis
It's not always easy. Not easy.
J. Stu
Did you hear this guy? Not easy. Are you Ryan Seacrest or Donald Trump? Figure it out. I don't know who I'm talking to. I had to turn around because I thought Trump was there. Let me tell you something. It's not easy. So that's Kelly Clarkson, your American Idol.
Rich Davis
It's not easy.
J. Stu
It's not easy.
Rich Davis
Anyway, sometimes I morph between Donald and Seacrest, I guess. But she threw shade at her ex husband, posting a picture of four stockings by a chip by a fireplace. And it said Kelly. Her two kids names and the last stocking said, nope. And people like, is that necessary? Like, I feel like during the holiday.
J. Stu
Season, it's petty, but it's funny. Maybe it was just a funny thing. I don't know.
Rich Davis
I like Kelly Clarkson.
J. Stu
It's definitely petty.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I know you're a bigger fan of Clay Aiken.
J. Stu
Huge fan.
Rich Davis
Ruben's. Ruben stuttered.
Mark Ramsey
Is Clarkson's ex Justin Waarini?
Rich Davis
No, that was the guy she just beat on American Eye.
Mark Ramsey
I'm glad you guys got that.
J. Stu
Yeah, but he is.
Rich Davis
He's the sweet one.
J. Stu
You know that?
Mark Ramsey
No.
Rich Davis
On the Dr. Pepper commercial. You know the little tiny guy? The sweet one.
J. Stu
It's the sweet one.
Mark Ramsey
That's Justin Guarini.
Rich Davis
Yes, Justin Waini.
J. Stu
What do you think? Was Prince. No. Justin Guerini, man.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
J. Stu
So anyway, that's J. Stu. He's on the phones at 87799 on Fox. J. Stu producing.
Rich Davis
Always great to see Jason always.
J. Stu
We got Mark Ramsey as Covino and Rich in for Dan Patrick. Spotty's on the videos, the most interactive show on radio. Again, we're on from 2 to 4 on the west, Monday through Friday, 5 to 7 on the east. But just search Covino and Rich wherever you stream podcasts. In fact, we have a bonus podcast called Over Promised, which you could watch on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. And that's basically what we're highlighting right now because we sort of talked about this on Over Promise but really didn't dive into the best R rated Christmas movies.
Rich Davis
I'm wondering if we forgot any. And don't forget next hour, if you're still hanging with us, which I hope you are, we caught up with Mike Tyson, Mike Dave a week ago and he really is one of the most fascinating dudes on planet Earth.
J. Stu
Merry Christmas.
Rich Davis
And he talked about everything from edibles to his fight with Jake Paul to everything. So licking toads and drugs and everything. So Mike Tyson next hour right here in for Dan Patrick Covino and Rich. So let's get into this. Your top 5 rated R Christmas movies. When you're watching a holiday movie where you want some laughs, you don't care if there's a little nudity or some cursing. The movies that you're not watching around your kids that are highly entertaining, well.
J. Stu
I want to take it back on a Tuesday real quick.
Rich Davis
What are you, Frank Stallone?
J. Stu
Do, do, do, do. Take it back to the thrill of when you were a kid and just hoping that it was an R rated special feature on HBO that music would kick in.
Rich Davis
Rated R. Yes.
J. Stu
And you're so happy you stayed up late to watch that rated R movie. I just wanted to reminisce and experience that with you, Rich, because that was a thrill because you knew you were gonna see some, some good quality entertainment when you saw that rated R, what.
Rich Davis
Are you gonna say?
J. Stu
Some things. Good quality entertainment. Now, speaking of R rated movies, these are the best R rated Christmas movies according to us. And you could agree, disagree, add a few, but these are the top five. We agree on four of them. So number five is the night before.
Rich Davis
Have not seen this movie. It's Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Joseph Gordon.
J. Stu
Levitt, Lizzy Kaplan, James Franco.
Rich Davis
It's just a story of a bunch of pals that are hanging out, you guessed it, the night before Christmas. Some of them, Seth Rogen, he's Jewish. So they were celebrating Hanukkah Christmas together, old pals, and they try to go to some crazy party where there's a lot of like sex and drugs and craziness and it's just a good, like a good laugh out loud Christmas Hanukkah comedy.
J. Stu
Yeah. It's their yearly reunion and it's got hearts. I saw it in 2015. I saw it with you.
Rich Davis
I remember that.
J. Stu
So it came out 2015. Number five, R rated Joseph Gordon Levitt, Seth Rogen, the night before. Anthony Mackie, shout out to him. And that brings us to number four. When did this one come out? Trying to remember 2016, I believe.
Rich Davis
Because you remember a young Jimmy Butler because he had a cameo in the movie.
J. Stu
It was 2016. And that stands out to me, believe it or not, because he wasn't household name lovable. Everybody knows Jimmy Butler at the time. He was star on the rise. And he has this cameo as himself in the movie. So Office Christmas Party with our pal at the time, Olivia Munn, Jason Bateman, who everybody loves, by the way, Carrie Aniston.
Rich Davis
Have you watched Carry on yet?
J. Stu
No, I haven't.
Rich Davis
Fantastic. On Netflix. Pretty good. Pretty good.
J. Stu
I know there's a lot of buzz. T.J. miller's in that one, guys. Office Christmas Party. And that's exactly what it's about.
Rich Davis
The whole point of that movie is that it's like a company that's sort of like shutting down or they're trying. They need a couple big clients. So to entertain the clients, they throw a ridiculous party. And is Don Cheadle in that movie?
J. Stu
No, it's Tim Meadows.
Rich Davis
It is Tim Meadows. Tim Meadows. I'm joking. We always say it's like the same guy. So good. Office Christmas Party, Jason Bateman at his usual self. Everything about that movie is fantastic. So Jason Bateman, Aniston, Office Christmas Party. That's number four now.
J. Stu
Number three on our list of R rated Christmas movies. Agree or disagree? Oh, 2008. Four Christmases.
Rich Davis
I recommended this to my mom the other day and she's like, it was so funny. My mom's like, I need a Christmas movie to watch. And she's watched all the classic, like, happy ones. I go, you want to watch something just really funny? Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon, they both come from divorced families. Let's just say Christmas plans get out of hand if you haven't seen this movie. And they visit all four of the families.
J. Stu
Yeah. And all four families obviously are very.
Rich Davis
Different and dysfunctional and crazy. Four Christmases definitely gotta be on this list.
J. Stu
You know what's crazy about it, though? Rotten potatoes gave it 25% as I.
Rich Davis
That's why I look at it, that's why. Rotten tomatoes, potatoes. I don't believe that crap. Because if that's the case, every Adam Sandler movie or dumb movie we loved in our childhood, Tommy Boyce, you know, Farley movies probably all got terrible ratings there too, so.
J. Stu
Vince Vaughn at his best. Your favorite. Kristin Chenoweth again. Oh, Katie Mixon from Eastbound and down is in that movie. You'd love me some Katie Mixon. Four Christmases 2008. That brings us to number two in our top rated R rated Christmas movies that you could check out this weekend. Instead of A Christmas Story, which I'm representing as we speak, which is the most overrated.
Rich Davis
If it didn't air, if they didn't have a deal with like a cable provider, I don't know if that movie would have. Have ever gained steam. In fact, the sequel they made like a year ago was better than the original.
J. Stu
I thought the sequel was good. Yeah, I think.
Rich Davis
I think A Christmas Story misses the mark and everyone else loves it. I don't get it.
J. Stu
Remember how we talked about the packers first hour and how people sleep on them, but now you're taking note. But it's good to be slept on, right? Because, I don't know, it's a nice way to sneak in, like, ah, gotcha. You weren't looking for me, but here I am. I feel like people sleep on our number two because I think that people forget it's a Christmas movie. No, not Die Hard, you boneheads. Daddy's Home too. Daddy's Home too is so good that it could be my number one.
Rich Davis
I mean, think of the cast. Will Ferrell.
J. Stu
Yeah. Are you familiar? J. Stu, I feel like you're not. You're like, huh, Daddy's Home too. Daddy's Home.
Mark Ramsey
Not a Christmas original.
J. Stu
Yeah. Yeah, so did I.
Rich Davis
And I watched the second one with like, maybe like, not the highest hopes. I got a sequel to Daddy's.
J. Stu
It's really good.
Rich Davis
It takes place around Christmas.
J. Stu
It's a straight up a Christmas.
Rich Davis
And it's Will Ferrell. It's Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg and their dads are Mel Gibson and John Lithgow.
J. Stu
Yeah.
Rich Davis
And they're on like a Cabin for the holidays.
J. Stu
And John Cena's in it.
Rich Davis
John. It's. It's ridiculously entertaining.
J. Stu
It really is.
Rich Davis
Wait a minute.
Mark Ramsey
Have I seen this? Which one does the. Do they Know it's Christmas? Is that the original at. What are they at a movie theater?
Rich Davis
Yes, that's the one. That's the one that's Part two.
Mark Ramsey
That's Part two?
Rich Davis
Yes. That's a great movie.
Mark Ramsey
So I've seen both of them.
J. Stu
You have seen it? Yeah. See, people forget sleep on Daddy's Home too. It is a Christmas movie. It's not like a debate. Like we think it's a Christmas. No, it is a Christmas movie.
Rich Davis
There's a funny fight scene during. By the nativity scene.
J. Stu
Oh, it's really funny, man. And the cast is great. 2017. I'm like a tough. Like, I don't want to like these movies and I like this movie. So that's Daddy's Home 2. That's our number two in our best R rated Christmas movies. Now here's where it gets touchy because Rich and I couldn't disagree more on our next two selections here. Because Rich has a number one and I have a number one. And I can't necessarily say, oh, this is the greatest one of all time, but I just hate his so much that anything's better than his choice.
Rich Davis
My choice for number one is a movie that I feel like you have to watch every year.
J. Stu
Barf.
Rich Davis
It's a combination of like eight great stories into one fantastic tale. There's heart, there's humor.
J. Stu
There's a porn scene.
Rich Davis
It's not a porn scene. They're porn standards.
J. Stu
You know, nothing says Merry Christmas like a good porn scene. Am I right?
Rich Davis
Maybe you want to cover your kids eyes during that part. There's Office Romance. There's sadness. If you don't appreciate love, actually, you're probably a bad person.
J. Stu
Weakest movie ever, honestly. And I know J Stew, you like it. So I feel bad because I love.
Mark Ramsey
Jason I've heard of all time as well.
J. Stu
I can't believe you like this. Honestly. You're a man of great taste.
Mark Ramsey
The soundtrack.
J. Stu
I can't believe it.
Mark Ramsey
Phenomenal.
J. Stu
I hate this movie.
Rich Davis
Got some Beatles, some Kelly Clarkson, a little of everything you got.
J. Stu
He likes to do the dance that Hugh Grant does.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
J. Stu
Now here's the thing. Rich and I have been doing a show for 20 years, right? And Rich always says this is his favorite Christmas movie. I do find it to be appropriate for this conversation because we're specifically discussing R rated Christmas movies. Okay? So I do believe that, okay, maybe it's on this list, or least it belongs in the discussion because it's an R rated Christmas movie. But he brings it up all the time as his all time favorite no matter what. And that's where I have the problem. But I'm gonna say Bad Santa as a, as a Current day. Not even current day, but a newer classic for sure.
Rich Davis
Medio.
J. Stu
Because I feel like it started the really jump started the genre of R rated Christmas movies. Bad Santa, Thurman Merman, Fortune Feimster as Thurman Merman. Right. Or is that Iowa Sam? I can't tell. Thurman Merman, Billy Bob Thornton. Bernie Mac. Bad Santa, bro. So your thoughts? Cuz I despise love. Actually. Give me a break. I watched that movie.
Rich Davis
I hated it. I don't know what can you hate about it? Like say like all these.
J. Stu
Was any redeeming anything? There's like a beginning scene of the. That starts with the motion airport scene. Right?
Mark Ramsey
Yeah.
J. Stu
I love, I thought that was like a beautiful scene.
Mark Ramsey
Everything else sucked and people forget that the most iconic scene from love actually are the cards. Right? The cards to the.
J. Stu
Yeah.
Rich Davis
With Rick from the Walking Dead.
Mark Ramsey
Right. That's the thing most people think, wait, is that Rick from the Walking Dead. That's what he's known for.
Rich Davis
It is, yeah. Andrew Lincoln.
Mark Ramsey
But did bad Santa not make your top five?
Rich Davis
Rich not a fan.
Mark Ramsey
So out.
Rich Davis
Yeah, me too.
Mark Ramsey
So out of the top five, by the way.
J. Stu
They both came out. They both came out. 2003 Love actually. And Bad Santa.
Mark Ramsey
Interesting.
J. Stu
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I mean Billy Mack singing his Christmas song.
J. Stu
Corny.
Rich Davis
Liam Neeson trying to find love.
J. Stu
I mean his weakest role ever. And I love Liam Neeson.
Rich Davis
Hugh Grant.
J. Stu
Corny.
Rich Davis
Corny.
J. Stu
I hate them.
Rich Davis
But hey, if you want to weigh in 87799 on Fox, convene on Rich in for the great Dan Patrick. What is the greatest rated R Christmas movie?
J. Stu
And because it's Christmas Eve, Rich, we also want to go over quickly the best Christmas sports toys that you got growing up because we have a, we have a number one, believe it or not.
Rich Davis
That's an easy one. So we'll take some phone calls. We'll get to that. There's some other obviously stories in the world of sports. Rich Davis
Mark in my toes. Billy Mack, bro.
J. Stu
Yeah. J Stu. How do you allow this? J Stu on the phones at 87799 on Fox Covino and Rich in for Dan Patrick. Mark on the ones and twos. Rich Davis in his glory because he loves love. Actually the worst Christmas movie of all time. But we are talking the best R rated Christmas movie. So I, I do understand because it's R rated. But we're going to get to your phone calls next. Rich Davis
Yeah. Your favorite R rated Christmas movie. Let's go to night in Indiana. What's up?
J. Stu
Hey, I like Friday after next with.
Steve Covino
Ice Cube and Mike Epps and Cat Williams.
J. Stu
I do like that one. So I don't know if y'all. I do. Yeah, I like that one a lot. It just didn't make my top five. But I do like that one. There's a few more that I actually do like but it's hard to get them all in there. But thanks, man. Appreciate it.
Rich Davis
I think if a movie has Christmas in it. I don't know if that makes it a Christmas movie. Like our buddy Vito. You know, we're talking about how we, you know, you roll your eyes at how people have to be like, die Hard, die Hard. Because then you could say the same about Lethal Weapon. There's movies where there's a holiday backdrop, and I don't know if a holiday backdrop means it's a Christmas.
J. Stu
Absolutely. Rambo.
Rich Davis
Yeah, well, speaking of which, Rambo, if Rocky 4, if he fought Drago on Christmas day. Is that a Christmas movie?
J. Stu
Absolutely.
Rich Davis
I mean, come on, you got to put some parameters here.
Mark Ramsey
Let me ask you this.
J. Stu
Yes.
Mark Ramsey
Trading Places, a Christmas movie.
J. Stu
I don't think I've ever seen it.
Mark Ramsey
Wait a minute. You haven't seen Jamie Lee Curtis in all her glory? Oh, my goodness.
J. Stu
I think that was Johnny Knoxville.
Rich Davis
I thought I saw Jamie Lee Curtis in all her glory with Arnold and more of her.
Mark Ramsey
Much more of her Glory in 1982. Trading places. It's one of the first Eddie Murphy movies.
J. Stu
Dan Aykroyd. Right.
Mark Ramsey
I think that's on the border on. Of holiday movie or not.
J. Stu
Why's it got to be on the border? Because I'm Mexican.
Rich Davis
I think, I think, I think it is an on the border one. You know, we left off. I'm, you know, I don't want to take people's answers. I feel like there's two we left off. Let's go to Joel in South Carolina. But that's a good one. Jason. What's up?
J. Stu
This is R rated Christmas movies.
Rich Davis
What's up? I can't believe the consensus wasn't bad Santa. Man, that is the best movie. R rated.
J. Stu
I can't believe I'm on the same planet as these guys when I'm saying bad Santa and they're saying love. Actually, to me, that's the epitome of an R rated Christmas movie. Can I fix you a sandwich? Come on.
Rich Davis
That's the best damn movie ever. Hey, I got to bail you guys out on catching up with some gifts. These are six gifts for 25 total. You will catch all of make everything equal silly Putty. Uno card, Slinky. Yo, yo, the light up one magic eight ball and any damn thing with a nerf ball. That is six gifts that you can buy. They'll be cost you about 30 bucks. It will get six more things to open up. You know, he's right. I was if you missed the first hour of the show saying how I have to do a couple errands today because I realized there's an imbalance of my kids presence. And I know that shouldn't matter, but.
J. Stu
Kid, everyone, Silly Putty's more of a stock.
Rich Davis
Everyone here at Siri, at Foxy Putty's.
J. Stu
Radio, Easter Bunny Toy, everyone here agree.
Rich Davis
That if you got more than one kid, they count.
J. Stu
All right?
Rich Davis
They count presence. It's ridiculous. Fish and Pa. What's up, Fish?
Steve Covino
Without a doubt, Bad Santa.
J. Stu
Thank you.
Rich Davis
And I one time I was excited to see that it was on the TV and they actually censored it, which was fruitless, obviously. Yeah.
J. Stu
Without.
Rich Davis
When they censor. When they used to censor movies on. That's a topic in itself. The bad edits they would do when they would censor a movie on like TBS or something.
J. Stu
I like when they switched the F word with flipping. Flipping.
Rich Davis
No, my favorite was the movie Major League. You may run like keys, but you hit like they said my sister. And I remember thinking that was the sister. That was the worst overdub of all time. You made run like Haze, but you hit like my sister. Let's go to Devin in Florida. Devin. Best rated R holiday movie. What's up, dude?
J. Stu
Hey, what's up, man? Yeah, I'm gonna put a shout out for violent night.
Rich Davis
Yo. I watched last year. It was fantastic.
J. Stu
It really was great, David.
Rich Davis
It's really, really entertaining in the silliest way. It really was.
Mark Ramsey
Is that the lead from Stranger Things?
Rich Davis
Yeah, that dude, he plays. He played David harbor plays Santa. And it's like an. Like really, like an action movie. It's fantastic.
J. Stu
You know, I remember all the hype about it came out in 2022. I don't know if I've seen it really.
Rich Davis
It's. Honestly, it's a silly watch. I tried watching Red One the other night with the Rock and maybe Simmons.
J. Stu
Right?
Rich Davis
Yeah, maybe I was tired, but I don't know. I just. I was like, yeah. Eric in California. What's up, Eric?
J. Stu
Hey, guys. Great show this morning.
Rich Davis
So fun. Thanks, man. I just want to say for the. And you just brought it up while.
J. Stu
I was on hold, I was like, for the people that think Die Hard is a Christmas movie, how is not Rocky for a Christmas movie?
Rich Davis
Yeah, just. Just because Paulie. Paulie got a robot. The robot was for his birthday.
J. Stu
Happy birthday, Paulie.
Rich Davis
But if a movie just has some type of Christmas backdrop, doesn't mean it's.
J. Stu
There's a lot of lead up to Christmas Day. Like Die Hard takes place on Christmas.
Rich Davis
Eve and you could argue at a.
J. Stu
Christmas party the entire time and you.
Rich Davis
Could argue that Argyle the limo driver is playing Christmas and Hollow. Christmas and Hollow. That's the in the credits. But yeah, the movie did come out in the summer. I got two that we didn't mention. So I know there's someone pulling their hair out in their car or listen on the app right now. Christmas Vacation Chevy Chase. A classic one.
J. Stu
Is it R rated? Yeah, I guess it is. I'm a little say no.
Mark Ramsey
I would say it's PG13.
Rich Davis
All right, then I'm off the hook then. I thought his little rant about Jelly the Month club had a couple F bombs in there. Is that not true?
J. Stu
Christmas, that doesn't automatically mean a vacation.
Mark Ramsey
That was back before PG 13. Right? So it was like PG or R. It's PG 13.
J. Stu
So you're wrong or not wrong. But no, it doesn't qualify.
Rich Davis
I want to give an honorable mention to Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris. Just friends. Really good movie. Forgive. That's also no way.
J. Stu
Yes. Swear to God. So we're good. Stick with our top five.
Rich Davis
Perfect.
J. Stu
If you have any other thoughts, hit us up. Ovino and Rich. We got more next. Mike Tyson.
Rich Davis

The Dan Patrick Show – Episode: Hour 2-Covino & Rich Guest Hosting Release Date: December 24, 2024
Hosts: Covino and Rich Davis
Network: iHeartPodcasts and Dan Patrick Podcast Network
Description: In this special holiday episode, guest hosts Covino and Rich Davis take the reins of The Dan Patrick Show, delivering their unique perspectives on sports, pop culture, and festive entertainment with their signature humor and insightful commentary.
Mark Ramsey introduces the guest hosts:
Mark Ramsey (02:54): "You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio."
Covino and Rich Davis jump into hosting for the second hour:
J. Stu (03:04): "Ho ho ho. Covino and Rich in for Dan Patrick."
They begin with lighthearted banter about holiday attire and recent sports wins, specifically giving "props to the Packers after a big win Monday night."
The conversation shifts to a hot topic in the sports world:
Rich Davis (04:00): "Do you have a problem with Lamar Jackson saying that he's going to check out Beyonce at halftime? Because I think he's serious."
Covino and Rich dissect the potential distractions and the implications for Lamar Jackson’s focus during critical NFL games. They discuss the importance of "optics" in sports, emphasizing how actions perceived off the field can impact a player's reputation and team dynamics.
J. Stu (05:23): "Do I have a problem with Lamar Jackson doing that? I do."
They compare Lamar’s situation to past instances where players’ off-field actions affected public perception, highlighting the delicate balance athletes must maintain between personal interests and professional responsibilities.
Rich Davis (07:22): "Optics matter. You can't be like my brother sending me pictures of yourself on vacation when you owe me money. Optics matter."
The debate highlights the tension between being a public figure and maintaining focus during high-stakes moments, concluding that while personal interests are natural, they must be managed to avoid negative perceptions.
Covino and Rich dive into a spirited discussion about their favorite R-rated Christmas movies, presenting a top-five countdown with passionate opinions and playful disagreements.
Number Five: The Night Before (26:53)
J. Stu (27:01): "Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, The Night Before is just a story of a bunch of pals hanging out the night before Christmas. It’s got heart and laughs."
Number Four: Office Christmas Party (27:46)
Rich Davis (28:37): "Office Christmas Party with Jason Bateman and Carrie Aniston is fantastic. It’s about a company throwing a wild party to save their business."
Number Three: Four Christmases (28:54)
J. Stu (29:00): "Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon star in Four Christmases, visiting all four of their dysfunctional families. It’s hilariously relatable."
Number Two: Daddy’s Home 2 (30:13)
Rich Davis (31:01): "Daddy’s Home 2 with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg is ridiculously entertaining. It’s a straight-up Christmas movie with great performances."
Number One: Love Actually vs. Bad Santa (32:30 - 35:35)
Rich Davis (32:34): "My number one is Love Actually. It combines eight great stories into one fantastic tale with heart and humor."
J. Stu (33:01): "I think Bad Santa deserves the top spot. It started the R-rated Christmas genre and is just plain hilarious."
The hosts engage with listeners, sharing their strong preferences and the reasons behind their rankings, demonstrating their deep appreciation for diverse holiday films that cater to different tastes.
Rich Davis (35:02): "If you want to weigh in, call us at 877-99-FOX."
They conclude the segment by acknowledging differing opinions but agreeing on the significance of these films in the R-rated Christmas category.
Throughout the episode, Covino and Rich interact with callers, adding dynamic and relatable elements to their discussions.
Caller from Indiana (38:21):
J. Stu (38:26): "I like Friday After Next with Ice Cube and Mike Epps. It’s a fun addition to R-rated Christmas movies."
Caller from Tennessee (12:09):
Mark Ramsey (12:18): "What if Beyonce was seen on the sidelines watching Lamar play, and then at halftime she screwed up? Would that be bad optics?"
Their responses to callers demonstrate their ability to engage thoughtfully while maintaining the show’s lively and entertaining atmosphere.
As the show nears its conclusion, Covino and Rich preview upcoming segments and promote related content:
Next Hour Preview: They tease an upcoming interview with Mike Tyson, promising more engaging discussions on sports and pop culture.
Rich Davis (37:10): "Next hour, Mike Tyson, the real Mike Tyson. We’re going to talk more Christmas sports toys and his fascinating stories."
Promotions: They mention their bonus podcast, Over Promised, available on Fox Sports Radio’s YouTube page, and advertise products like DraftKings Sportsbook and Tractor Supply’s partnership with T-Mobile for Business.
