not every sale happens at the register before AT&T business Wireless. Checking out customers on our mobile POS systems took too long. Basically a staring contest where everyone loses. It's crazy what people will say during an awkward silence. Now transactions are done before the silence takes hold. That means I can focus on the task at hand and make an extra sale or two. Sometimes I do miss the bonding time.
Paulie
Sometimes AT T Business Wireless Connecting changes everything.

That T shirt's available at the Dan Patrick Show Store. DanPatrick.com we'll update our poll results. We have a mock draft warning. We have Matt Miller who does the honors for the mothership. He'll join us. Coming up, some combine questions to ask as we look at what's going to happen here in the off season. AJ Brown going to be moved? What about Max Crosby? And who's going to be the second pick in the draft with the jets on the clock? 8773-DP-SHOP Email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP-SHOW Good morning if you're watching on Peacock or the NBC Sports Network and download the app if you haven't done so to watch on Peacock, we say good morning to our radio affiliates, including iHeartRadio and Fox Sports Radio. Seton Poll question from hour one. Final results.
Seaton
Yeah, we got three of them right now. Which are you more more looking forward to from this year's combine? Hand size or arm length? Hand size. At 61% of that vote, do you know the length of your arms? 82% say no. And would you rather have small hands or short arms? Small hands. Right now, 52% of that vote, people would rather have small hands.
Dan Patrick
All right, these are the kind of questions you expect here on the Dan
Seaton
Patrick, we cover things like this better than anybody. I could say that confidently.
Dan Patrick
I don't think there are too many shows stealing this stuff.
Seaton
Yeah, they wish they could, but you can't. Yeah, you can't do it this good.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you know, we just come in with a great script, we follow the script and we do it for three hours. I'm still amazed that people think that this is scripted. When I was at the mothership, you could say that it was scripted because I had to check the boxes every day when we were doing radio, and I vowed that I wouldn't do that again. I'm very appreciative of having that platform at ESPN for all those years to do radio. But when I left, I said, I'm going to do a show the way I want to do a show. And, you know, having fun still covering sports, but do it in a way that is more reflective of my personality instead of the personality of my bosses.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, we have a light plan of topics, but for example, yesterday, a minute before the show starts, you're walking into the room and you go, you watched that Texas Tech game last night. Did you hear the rims? Like, yeah, I did hear the rims. And then you started there.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
And it went. Yes. And that's the flexibility we have.
Dan Patrick
And then it kind of morphed into the worst sounds in sports and then best sounds in sports. But it's fun. I mean, I got to admit, there are days when we come in and we go, what are we going to Talk about. And I go, I have no idea. And all of a sudden, music starts. The bells. And then here we go. You got to fill up three hours every single day. But, you know, you walk into a bar and you see your friends and you have a good time. That's kind of the feeling.
Todd
How do you talk sports for three hours every day? That's ridiculous.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd. Alrighty. Do we want to update the poll?
Todd
110. 98 rockets.
Seaton
Move on. This is sort of back to that Jeopardy. Question that we had, where it's like, we do well in one category. They do well in all of them.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Todd, did you ever correspond with those two girls that you met in Santa Monica?
Todd
I did with the younger one. She wanted to send Saki. I don't know if she. I think they did. They started their own Saki.
Dan Patrick
Well, I don't know. The younger one, they both looked young.
Seaton
Which is the one that liked you. Which is the one that didn't like you.
Todd
The older one didn't care for me. She's the one that said, how could you talk about sports? Who's the one? Why do they have your picture on this girl's shirt? The younger one that I was talking to more, that seemed to have more of a personality and less of the valley girl thing. Sorry, Just call it her as they see it. She's the one that, like, they started a sake company and she wanted to send some to the studio. She seemed more like chatty and fun. Okay, I like chatty, fun people.
Seaton
What type of pun did you reply with when you heard how it was a sake company? Did you say, oh, I'm sure you had a cool.
Todd
Yeah, she was talking about it at length and was pitching it too much, I think. I said, put a sake in it.
Dan Patrick
And then she. There you go.
Todd
I don't think she liked that. I said, I'm just joking. And she walked away. Rightfully so.
Dan Patrick
Well, that's your charm, though. You know. Know you. I can just see once, you know, that somebody wants to talk to you, and then it's on.
Todd
But the problem is I don't pick up those social cues when they go anyway.
Dan Patrick
And I'm like.
Todd
And then I start continuing to talk like that could mean that they want to move on to somebody else.
Dan Patrick
We were leaving the bar, Big Dean's in Santa Monica. We were leaving a couple of times, and you just chatting away.
Todd
And she said, well, it's nice to meet you. And she's getting up, and I'm following her to the next part. Of the bar.
Marvin
What are you doing?
Todd
What am I doing?
Dan Patrick
And you don't even drink. You're just sitting there. And you found somebody who had a sympathetic ear and was familiar with the
Todd
show, trying out my bad material.
Dan Patrick
Oh, my God.
Todd
Uncomfortably laughing to try to make me feel better.
Dan Patrick
And then her sister was just not having it.
Todd
Four, two reds. So what? How could you talk about that for three hours? It's crazy.
Dan Patrick
Pistons beat the Thunder OKC without five of its top six scores and their their sixth highest score left at halftime. He got hurt. Spurs beat the Raptors. San Antonio first double digit winning streak since 2015. They've won 10 in a row. And DeMar DeRozan, he had 15 points in the Kings loss against the Rockets. The reason why I bring it up, he is now 20th on the all time scoring list. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that. What? Stat of the day. All right, Paul, say it.
Paulie
Okay. You and I have talked about this. Demar DeRozan is a very good basketball player. Has been for a long time. I'm assuming he's going to the hall of Fame someday. Based off his career.
Dan Patrick
I think if you got 26,000 points, you're in.
Marvin
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I'm going to guess he moved past John Havilchek and Paul Pierce.
Paulie
Is there a less exciting game of a surefire hall of Famer or a guy going to the hall of Fame?
Dan Patrick
Joe Johnson didn't go into the hall of Fame. I don't.
Paulie
In our hall of Fame, he would be. I don't know.
Dan Patrick
Do you think he's going to hall of Fame, Marv?
Marvin
The one at Springfield?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Oh, for sure.
Marvin
You know. Do you know who's been in the hall of Fame recently? And I do not want to do this because it's not nice, but there's some guys with no All Star appearances that are in Springfield.
Dan Patrick
Who?
Marvin
Michael Cooper.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but he played for the Lakers. He won championships.
Marvin
Oh, I'm, I'm with you.
Dan Patrick
So, I mean, that's Draymond Green. That, that's an ensemble induction. That's. That's where you go. It's not just McCartney and Lennon. It's also Ringo and George Harrison.
Paulie
Ringo is Michael Cooper. That's new.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Joe Johnson, quickly. He went to six straight All Star games. Seven total. That's a nice number. But again, his game, like when they show the highlight package in Springfield.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Nobody's gonna go, oh, my God. Ooh, it's gonna be mid range jumper. Mid range jumper. Mid range jumper. Yes. Marvin.
Marvin
Yeah. The Basketball hall of Fame started to go off on a little tangent. Iconic players, iconic teams. That's what it is. If you are a part of the 83 Sixers, if you're Mo Cheeks and Bobby Jones, you're in. If you're Casey Jones, Sam Jones, Tommy Hindson on the 60 Celtics, you're in.
Dan Patrick
I'm okay with it.
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Marvin
Same.
Dan Patrick
I mean, I, I. Now, DeMar DeRozan is not an exciting
Marvin
player, but young DeMar, young DeMar.
Paulie
He had a few years. He went to three straight all star games in Toronto and 23 points. 27 points. 23 points. And he did it all without shooting three spaces.
Dan Patrick
Well, I know that's mid range jumper.
Paulie
Is he SGA before sga, Marvin?
Marvin
Sga light, perhaps without the athleticism.
Paulie
No offense.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes.
Todd
Todd, why do we think there is such a generosity or lack of angst around who to put into the Basketball hall of Fame? There's no shortage of candidates. It's like we only have 11 people over the last 20 years in the hall of Fame. We better stop putting people in that may not deserve it.
Dan Patrick
Okay, you know where I stand with this. Christian Laettner is probably one of the top five college basketball players, decorated college basketball players of all time. He's not him. And then a friend of mine goes, you know, you keep talking about people who aren't in the hall of Fame. You know, your boy Digger Phelps is not in the hall of Fame. And I go, digger Phelps is not in the Basketball hall of Fame. Can we check and see if that's true? Digger Phelps, Notre Dame still alive. Not in the Basketball hall of Fame. Wow.
Paulie
Checking. I. There's mixed reports here.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Marvin.
Marvin
As far as the Basketball hall of Fame, Sonny Vaccaro and, and Leitner, those are your two guys that you need to get in.
Dan Patrick
But I would want Digger Phelps in. And you know what's going to hurt him is he actually sent me a recruiting letter when I was in high school. And they'll go, how much did he know about basketball? That's the sticking point.
Paulie
It's a meeting.
Dan Patrick
Yes. But a couple weeks later, they then told me that they were not recruiting me.
Marvin
So he knew talent.
Dan Patrick
I didn't show them. I didn't show my friends, my teammates. The second letter I got. I just showed them the first letter. Hey, we're interested and alumni are alumnus in the area is recommending you. I don't think Digger Phelps is in the Basketball hall of Fame. Yes.
Todd
Yeah. Everything I'm looking at Suggests he is not. He was honored by Notre Dame in their Ring of Honor or whatever, but nothing suggests that he's in the Basketball
Seaton
hall of Fame at all.
Dan Patrick
Why is it so tough for college guys to get into the Basketball hall of Fame? Yeah.
Marvin
Marvin, Is it the combo Grant Hill's in? Yeah, because Grant Hill had a really good start to his NBA career, as well as a great year. Great career at Duke.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
So I think it was the lack of success that Leitner had in the NBA that hurts him. If he had gotten hurt in year three in the NBA, he would have been in the hall of Fame 15 years ago. Ralph Sampson effect.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but he played like 13 years in the NBA, but not at. I know.
Marvin
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
But that's what I'm saying. Played in the NBA for 13 years.
Marvin
But not everyone that plays in The NBA for 13 years goes to the hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
Ralph Sampson's in the Basketball hall of Fame.
Marvin
Correct. But like I said before, it was because of the injuries. If he had played 15 years of just average level basketball, I don't think he'd be in.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
All right. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, here's another name that I think has bothered you in the past. No offense. Ben Wallace, former defensive player for the Pistons. He was the depoy four times.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah.
Paulie
That award got him in because his stats are.
Dan Patrick
Rudy Gobert is going to be a Hall of Famer. He is. That is. Wow.
Seaton
So interesting.
Dan Patrick
But Ben did win an NBA championship, right?
Marvin
He did.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Rudy Gobert is going to be a Hall of Famer.
Paulie
He is probably. He has three all star appearances, but he's got four Defensive Player of the Year awards, just like Ben Wallace.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And look, I. I hate doing this because we do this when we were like, Ben Wallace to me, is not a Hall of Famer. He's not very, very, very limited offensively. Defensively. Yes. Weak side help. He was wonderful. Just. If they don't win a championship, is he in the hall of Fame? I don't think so, but that's what you know. Okay. You're part of this group, an ensemble. Okay. Well, Leitner was part of an ensemble at Duke, if you want to look at it that way. Yes. Mark.
Marvin
Yeah. Going back to Ben Wallace, this might be the Eli Manning effect, who the Pistons beat. They beat the Shaq and Kobe Lakers in the NBA Finals. So I think that helped him get into the hall of Fame as well.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Michael Cooper won titles. I mean, he's in because it's an ensemble. Yes. Mark.
Marvin
Yeah. He was on All Five Showtime Lakers teams.
Seaton
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
Like a lot of those guys. Some were on three, some were on two. He was on all five.
Dan Patrick
Draymond Green plays for the Hawks. He's not in the hall of Fame. He's part of the ensemble with Golden State. He's to be a Hall of Famer. Yes. Paul.
Paulie
Here's another guy that I don't think anyone questioned when he was up for the hall of Fame. Manager Nobly of the spurs. He started 350 games out of 1100. He was not even a starter for most of his career. Two time all star and no. But what he did in the. In the playoffs.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
No problem.
Dan Patrick
Putting in international player.
Todd
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
As well. Yes. Todd.
Todd
Not exactly a consolation prize, but. Digger Phelps, Rider, Athletics hall of Fame. Playing a couple years at Ryder. Not exactly getting into Springfield.
Dan Patrick
First ballot. Here's the hall of Fame. First ballot. Ryder College reserve.
Todd
A hoopster at three seasons at Ryder, then became a graduate assistant.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, man. Digger's not in the hall of Fame. Tough standards there. Tough standards. I'd like to be on the board there. Be on the committee.
Paulie
Ryder University.
Dan Patrick
No. Basketball hall of Fame.
Seaton
The pride of Lawrenceville, if I'm not mistaken. That Ryder.
Dan Patrick
I don't know
Todd
the Ryder. Bronx, by the way.
Dan Patrick
Are they curious.
Todd
B, R O, N, C S. Not Broncos. The Rider.
Dan Patrick
Bronx. Bronx.
Seaton
Shout out. New Jersey.
Dan Patrick
Jack Hughes gave a shout out, the gold medal winning star. And they played last night, the Devils. And here's Jack Hughes.
Todd
Hughes.
Emily Simpson
I'm so proud and I'm so happy that the men's and women's USA Hockey
Todd
teams brought gold medals back to the United States of America.
Seaton
Go.
Todd
You guys are making me emotional.
Emily Simpson
But I'm.
Todd
I'm so proud to represent the New Jersey Devils organization.
Emily Simpson
And I'm so, so proud to represent
Todd
the great state of New Jersey.
Dan Patrick
So proud. Oh, come on. No. Satan.
Seaton
Now that's a guy who gets it right there.
Dan Patrick
Not every state. Not every state is the great state.
State.
Seaton
New Jersey is one of them.
Dan Patrick
Really? Hell yeah. Are they all great?
Todd
He's so emotional, Jack Hughes, that he can't see straight. I don't know if you. There used to be an old skit from Joe Piscopo saying, I love you so.
Dan Patrick
I'm from Jersey.
Todd
You're from Jersey. What state? What exit? That's what he would. That's how he would do a little shtick. I don't think every state is great.
Dan Patrick
So you're saying Jersey is not great?
Todd
I'm. I'm saying I would make it analogous to Someone that would say, like, if they were talking about the boroughs of New York from the great borough of Staten Island. I don't think anyone's going to say that.
Dan Patrick
My wife would. That's because she grew up there, Rich Eisenwood.
Todd
Yeah, but if you didn't grow up there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Soon to be Rock and Roll hall of Famers. Wu Tang Clan would certainly appreciate Staten Island.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Is New York a great state?
Todd
I would say so. They have their problems like any other state. It's a rat population, but it's.
Dan Patrick
But is every state a great, great state?
Todd
I don't think it is. Those that live there, they might say that.
Dan Patrick
Okay, well, Seaton's from Jersey. I wouldn't say New Jersey was a great state.
Seaton
What you. We're having a good day.
Dan Patrick
Why are you picking fights? I don't know.
Seaton
I don't know if Jack thinks it's pork roll or Taylor ham. That's really what.
Dan Patrick
I haven't been told to stay in my lane. And, you know, we're an hour and a half into the show.
Seaton
I don't feel like I could tell you to stay in your lane. In terms of New Jersey.
Dan Patrick
I lived in Jersey, and then that
Seaton
would actually lead to some type of what's exit joke. From which exit? From Todd.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I lived in Jersey, so I can, I can speak on behalf.
Seaton
I never understood the though like, oh, which exit?
Dan Patrick
Thing.
Seaton
As if every state doesn't have exits off of their highways. I. I don't understand that.
Dan Patrick
Well, maybe people from New Jersey, they always bring up the exit where they're from, then they're saying, oh, where are you from? Oh, blah, blah, blah. Oh, that's exit 90.
Seaton
I've never thought. I never, I don't know that I've ever done that.
Dan Patrick
I've never given the exit of where I live, but I've never heard any, Any other state residents where they go, yeah, yeah, you know, I'm exit. You know, I'm off the five, and then you take the, you know, I'm on exit nine.
Seaton
See, I don't, I don't hear. I've lived in New Jersey a long time and no one ever said, like, where are you from? Like, cerebral. Oh, exit 18 off the turnpike. I don't, I don't know that people from out of state always do the what's exit. Which exit? Joke.
Paulie
Yes, Paul, Are we going to rank states? Will we go forward and rank states? Like, what State is the 1 seed. What state is the.
Emily Simpson
Well, let Todd.
Dan Patrick
Let Todd. He's the one that came in this morning and said, you know, when he heard Jack Hughes, he goes, is. Is it really, you know, a great state?
Todd
I'll just say this. Jack Hughes wasn't desperate for cheers or applause. He got the gold medal winning goal. He didn't need to say, you know, like a comedian say how we do in Pittsburgh just to get some cheap applause. We know he did a great thing and they were going to cheer for him. He didn't need to add and represent the great state of New Jersey. Of course they're going to cheer for that. But it seemed like an unnecessarily desperate move to get the crowd extra.
Marvin
Marvid, do you judge the state off of the people that it's produced? If that's the case, then Jersey's up there. Look at all the rest stops.
Dan Patrick
And who names their rest stops geniuses?
Seaton
People who get it.
Dan Patrick
Bon Jovi has a rest stop.
Seaton
That's my rest stop. I live off the Bon Jovi.
Dan Patrick
What exit Seaton.
Todd
Yes, Todd, but we also say, like, to compare New York and New Jersey. Like, I grew up in New York or I live in New York. People just say Jersey and they drop the news. Or maybe there's something not so new about it. Why do we just call it Jersey? A lot of people kind of flippantly refer to New Jersey as Jersey, which to me means maybe it's not a great state.
Seaton
Well, it's not called great jersey. Yeah, every state has those reason. Regionalisms, though. Like, if you talk to Ross Tucker, be like, where are you from? Hershey, Pennsylvania. He always says pa. I don't know that. Paul, you've never described yourself as being from Illinois. You're a Chicago guy, right? Nobody's from Chicago. They're Chicago guys. I'm a Chicago guy. Oh, that means you're from Chicago. But nobody just says, where are you from? Chicago.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but I'm from Cincinnati. I don't say Cincinnati, Ohio.
Seaton
That's because nobody wants to admit they're from Cincinnati.
Paulie
Take that.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Marvin
Ohio, not a great state.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I wouldn't admit that either.
Paulie
What's with the chili?
Emily Simpson
Wow, Mash
Todd
getting personal right now.
Dan Patrick

I'm Anna Navarro and on my new podcast Bleep with Anna Navarro, I'm talking to the people closest to the biggest issues happening in your community and around the world. Because I know deep down inside right now we are all cursing and asking what the bleep is is going on. I'm talking to people like Julie K. Brown who broke the explosive story on Jeffrey Epstein in 2018. These victims have been let down time and time again for decades and decades and decades by local law enforcement, by federal law enforcement, by administration after administration. The Justice Department through I think we counted four presidential administrations failed these victims. Listen to Bleep with Ana Navarro as part of the My Cultura Podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. On June 11, 1998, a deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department went missing. It's an all out manhunt for John Awjay. Every search and rescue team in LA county has been called in to help. Within days, tips started flooding into the sheriff's department. The rumor around the drug scene was that a deputy was taken care of. Is this the story of a man who just got lost in the desert? Or of a cover up inside the nation's largest sheriff's department?
A homicide captain saying, detective, do not
Emily Simpson
find out if this guy's guilty or innocent.
Dan Patrick
Who does that? Valley of Shadows, a new series from Pushkin Industries about crime and corruption in California's high desert. Do you have any advice for us while looking into this disappearance? I wouldn't do it alone. Listen to Valley of shadows on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Liza Traeger. And I'm Kara Klenk. We're comedians and your favorite overly invested SVU watchers on that's Messed Up. An SVU Podcast. We recap iconic episodes, then talk to the stars who live them. Like the legendary Matthew Lillard, who will never forget his time on svu.
Todd
I do remember the mustache.
Emily Simpson
I will get a p. I will give him a meme of that mustache. Like every like six days somebody be like, what was this?
Dan Patrick
Each week we cover the crimes, analyze the plot holes and insult the outfits. Benson goes to talk to Kelly to, like, tell her the news, but is wearing a beret not the time for a silly hat? Benson, what are you doing? New episodes drop every Tuesday on the exactly right network. Listen to that's messed up on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Dun, dun, dun. Hey everyone, it's Emily Simpson and Shane Simpson from the Legally Brunette podcast.
Emily Simpson
Each week we're bringing you true crime through a legal lens.
Dan Patrick
Whether you want all the facts on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie or you still need to wrap your head around the Diddy verdict, we're breaking it all down step by step.
Emily Simpson
And we're not just lawyers, we're also husband and wife. It makes for some pretty entertaining episodes.
Dan Patrick
Listen to Legally brunette on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Seaton taking a shot. My hometown of Cincinnati and he's hearing it. Don't, don't drive through Cincinnati.
Seaton
Yeah, I'm hearing from a lot of Ohioans telling me, oh really? If you don't like it so much, don't drive through here on your road trips anymore.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah, take that. Yeah, take that. Seaton. Matt Miller, ESPN Draft Analyst and you can see him on NFL Draft Daily weekdays at 3 on ESPN2, ESPN App and Disney Plus. Matt, good to have you with us. Hand size seems like it was so three years ago. Now it's arm length. When did this happen? Why did this happen?
Emily Simpson
Well, it happened because this is a one quarterback draft, so we don't have the quarterbacks to obsess over. But I'll tell you this, if Ty Simpson from Alabama comes in at 6:1 with a 9 inch hand, we're probably going to be talking about it again. But because we know that Fernando Mendoza, 6 foot 4, 225 pounds, we don't have to have the panic this year about hand size because he's, we know, we know he's big enough in terms of the NFL standard. What we do get to obsess about is does Reuben Bain have 32 inch arms or not? Forget what he did in the college football playoffs. Forget that he was the most dominant defensive player in college football for most of last year. We got to worry about that quarter of an inch and how much of a difference it actually makes. And it's that time of year. Like I, I've been, this is my 15th combine. I still don't know that arm length matters. Unless you have context to that. That shows you on tape that a player's short arms or small hands are an issue. But it is one of those things that we get pretty bored in late February and need something to talk about.
Dan Patrick
Okay. If you were going to have long arms, do you want it for your tackle or your edge rusher?
Marvin
Both.
Emily Simpson
In a perfect world.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Emily Simpson
And I. I will say this. If Will Campbell hadn't struggled in the super bowl with short arms, with sub, you know, standard arm length, I don't. Also don't know that we'd be talking about it as much as we are. But in a perfect world, you want long arms because that allows me to get to you faster. You can make up for that by having faster hands, a faster punch. You can make up for it by having better power, which Reuben Bain does. I was talking to someone at dinner last night. Reuben Bane is like a boxer, so he might have short arms, but once he gets inside your arm, he has so much power in his hands, in his arms, in his hips, that he's going to just roll over you like a dump truck once he gets there. So, yes, there are times where you would prefer an edge rusher to have longer arms. I would rather an edge rusher have power instead of relying on arm length. I think in a perfect world, you want your tackles, offensive tackles, to have that reach because it does allow them to be late at times, which is exactly what we saw in the super bowl where Will Campbell was late and didn't have the length to make up for it.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but also, I don't know how, you know, injured he was with his knee. In fairness to him, I mean, he got exposed in the playoffs. It wasn't just the super bowl, and. But he's going against guys who will expose you. I mean, Will Anderson is a great edge rusher, but I don't. Do the Patriots have a problem at left tackle?
Emily Simpson
No, I don't think so. I think everything's fixable. And that's like, that's the key to remember with these guys. We're going to pick apart their measurements this week and their traits this week. But the idea is that these are not finished products that you're not coming into the NFL. And we say, okay, this is as good as you are. You should never get better. Will Campbell can just. I think there's some footwork stuff that could be cleaned up in terms of his. His posture, and then I think there's some timing things that could be cleaned up. And to your point, Dan, which is a great one that got Lost in the playoffs. He was playing hurt throughout the later part of the season. So that's going to also allow him, you would think, better timing as he goes to cut off those edge rushers. But also Will Anderson's going to beat you. I'm sure you've heard this saying, they get paid too. It doesn't mean Will Campbell's bad just because Will Anderson's a little bit better. Will Anderson's one of the best pass rushers in football and the Seattle Seahawks had one of the best schemes in football. So I don't, I don't think the Patriots have a problem. I think they have a player who like remember one year ago, Will Campbell had just played a season and then he's in graft grab pre combine training, then you're in pro day training, then you're in rookie minicamp, then you're in training camp, then you're playing a 17 game season. This dude hasn't had a break in and a half. And so I think it's also a matter of give him an offseason to get healthy, to get right to work with his offensive line coach. Most of these guys have a private offensive line coach they'll go work with and I bet we see an improved player next year.
Dan Patrick
The best player in the draft, regardless of position.
Emily Simpson
Jeremiah Love, running back, Notre Dame I don't think it's particularly close and you know, I don't think it's close. What he did the last years at Notre Dame was phenomenal. I mean he has the Notre Dame record for most touchdown runs over 90 yards. He had a 98 yard touchdown run against Indiana a year ago. He had a 94 yard touchdown run this year and he's 214 pounds.
Dan Patrick
But, but let's compare him though, Matt. If I'm going to compare him to Saquon Barkley coming out of Penn State, it'd be close.
Emily Simpson
They would be, they would be 1A, 1B as prospects. I think, I think he's right there with Bijan Robinson and Saquon as the best running back prospects of the last 10 years. Better than Genti because he catches the ball better. You watch him against Arkansas, he catches two touchdown passes. Like one is a legitimate route. These are not swing passes. He's, he's flexing out and running outs and catching touchdown passes. So this is, it's just so easy to see exactly how he'll fit into an NFL offense.
Dan Patrick
We're talking to Matt Miller, ESPN NFL draft analyst, who should take Jeremiah Love.
Emily Simpson
I mean I Think the conversation starts with the Cardinals at three. I mean, obviously the Raiders take Fernando Mendoza. He's. He's a winner, he's poised, he's accurate. He's everything you want in a quarterback prospect outside of maybe some better mobility. I think the jets with the trade this morning, trading Jeremiah Johnson, they're going to go edge rusher at two. So the conversation for Love probably starts at three. That's where the Cardinals are. The Titans are at four. They just added an edge rusher in Jermaine Johnson, which was one of their biggest needs. The Giants at 5. Probably not, because we love Cam Scatterbo. But then you. I think the floor is Kansas City at 9. So 3 to 3 to 9 is probably where he's at. And being here for two days now, I can tell you one thing I hear from everyone else in the NFL is please do not let Jeremiah Love fall to Kansas City. Don't let that happen. Do not give Patrick Mahomes Jeremiah love. Which, in fairness, we heard the same thing about Xavier Worthy, and it really hasn't made that much of a difference. So I think Kansas City has bigger issues than just, you know, giving Patrick Mahomes a generational running back talent.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I had Love second on my Heisman ballot. I, I thought that he was, he was a difference maker. Of all the players that I saw, he was the one that you, you had to account for. Every single game, every single play that he was in there, it was. And to have that where he can take it 90 yards, there aren't many players who can do that. And that's why, I mean, he's a top 10 pick. But when, as soon as you brought up where you think he's going to go, I immediately went, he'll fall to Kansas City at 9, you know.
Emily Simpson
But can they draft a running back when they have no pass rush? Their best corner is one year we're left on his contract. He could be traded. The right tackle's terrible. Their tight end is about to retire. No one receiver may be suspended. Like, can you take a running back?
Dan Patrick
But Matt, they're over. Under is ten and a half.
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
How do you explain the Chiefs are at ten and a half according to DraftKings.
Emily Simpson
Patrick Mahomes. It's that simple. It's that simple. They have moms. And that will win you a lot of ball games.
Dan Patrick
It doesn't. But is he starting week one? Is he going to be there week one?
Emily Simpson
DraftKings might know more than we do about his rehab. They've got people In Texas right now, watching them work out, probably, I think Mahomes covers up a lot. I fear the Chiefs are getting to that point where they say, we have Mahomes. We can almost throw anything out there and win and be successful. And you also have Andy Reid, who is one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time, but is a roster that needs a lot of work and they only have six draft picks and they're $11 million over the cap right now, which they can. The cap's kind of fake. You can, you can make that up. But it's a. That's a roster that has a lot more holes than, than people realize because Andy and Pat have covered a lot up.
Dan Patrick
I'm a big Malik Willis fan, and I have been. And I could see Minnesota, Arizona, Miami going up. We'll give you three years, $100 million. I'm curious how you viewed Malik Willis when he first came out.
Emily Simpson
Yeah, I liked him. He was my number two quarterback that year. And it was. It was tight between he and Kenny Pickett. So, I mean, we're not really Talking about the 1983 NFL Draft in terms of talent that year, but I like, I liked him. I thought he was just really inexperienced playing at Liberty. He hadn't gone against a lot of elite talent. And what I felt was he needed to play. Either go out and play with a team that was going to develop him and give him a long leash or. Or he needed to go somewhere where he could sit behind an established veteran and learn. What's weird is he really never got either of those. He never got the long leash in Tennessee. And then you go to Green Bay and Jordan Love is an established starter, but not. This isn't Matthew Stafford that you're learning behind. This isn't someone that's been in the league for 15 years, but he's played so well in spots. I'm a fan of his as well. I think when you have a quarterback that has been thrown into situations and succeeded, I think a quarterback that's battled adversity and not given up, that has really doubled down and made himself into a better player, those are the things that I would be encouraged by and I could take, like connecting the dots. A lot of people think he'll end up in Miami as long as they can figure that out cap wise with TUA moving on, going a different direction. But when you have a head coach and a general manager coming from one place to another, it does make sense that they would. You remember the movie Any given Sunday, it's like, when Al Pacino goes to the expansion team and he takes Willie Beeman with him, it almost feels like that's what the packers are about. You know, they're. The guys are going to Miami and they're like, and we're taking Malik Willis with us as well.
Dan Patrick
I always hear from Michigan fans when I'm critical of J.J. mcCarthy. I just didn't see it when he was in college, because the way Jim coaches, you know, it's. You got to be able to run the ball and play defense, and I don't think they relied on JJ now, he did have a couple of games where they did rely on him, but I know he's been banged up, maybe thrown in too soon, but, I mean, what's missing here? What am I missing with JJ McCarthy?
Emily Simpson
I think I missed it too, because I liked him coming out. And I had the same concerns. You know, I went to the Michigan pro day and talked to the coaches about, like, why. Why did you hide your quarterback at times? And their answer was, well, we didn't. We didn't hide our quarterback. We just didn't have to use him. You know, our run game was so good, our offensive line was so good. Why throw the ball if running's working? That was really their answer. And it's like, okay, well, maybe there's some truth to that. And it seems like the NFL agreed because he was a high first round pick. But I think right now he looks to me like a player where the game is just way too fast for him. And it's like, with Malik Willis, how do you. How do you fix that? You either go play a hell of a lot of football and you're given a long leash to make mistakes, or you sit and learn behind someone that knows what they're doing. And I think that's why we saw Minnesota try to bring in Daniel or keep Daniel Jones, you know, after they traded for him. I think it's why we'll see Minnesota go after a Geno Smith or a Kirk Cousins in this offseason, just so that maybe they're not giving up on McCarthy, but they're saying, okay, why don't you sit and watch somebody that knows what they're doing and to be able to do that while not injured, because, you know, when Sam Darnold was there, McCarthy was hurt, so he's not in the building taking those same reps that he would if he was the number two quarterback. He's still 22 years old, and there's still a ton of time left for J.J. mcCarthy. I think now it's kind of that moment of are you willing to admit that it's not working and do the work where guys like, you know, we have Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold. So many examples of quarterbacks that had this same moment and bounce back. I think we're, we're close to having that conversation with McCarthy.
Dan Patrick
Fernando Mendoza, first quarterback taken. Give me the next three quarterbacks.
Emily Simpson
Ty Simpson will be the second one and after that it is a mess. And I think this week will actually matter. And normally I think we come into the combine and we kind of know the quarterback or Mendoza will go first. Ty Simpson probably goes back into round one. Then I think it could be Drew Aller from Penn State who's a traits first quarterback that was injured this past year in October, didn't really get a chance to have that resume year that we would have liked to have seen from him. Carson Beck, on the other hand, comes into the year off that UCL injury and played really well down the stretch for Miami. Even if there were times they hid him a little bit, but he played well for them. And then you have Garrett Nussmeier, whose dad is an offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. He had kind of an up and down two years as a starter lsu, but he has the football iq, the accuracy. He kind of has a little bit of a gunslinger mentality. It's one of those guys is next and I think those would be the next three. And it will probably come down to what teams are looking for. You know, if you're the LA Rams, maybe you go after Drew Aller because Stafford's getting close to retirement age. You've proven that you want a quarterback that can make all the throws, that can push the ball down the field. That's not really Nussmeier. So it's you. You kind of start to eliminate who the guy could be based on traits that way.
Dan Patrick
If I put Mendoza in the draft a couple of years ago, the quarterback heavy draft, where does he go in
Emily Simpson
your opinion, in 24 with like Caleb and Jaden and those guys? I think he goes fourth. I, Caleb Williams is, I will maintain the best quarterback prospect I've seen. It's. He and Joe Burrow are up there as the two best in the last 10 years. I do think Jaden Daniels coming off that year at LSU still goes second. Drake May still goes third. Just on who he is as a person, the physical traits, the upside as such a young player, Mendoza is fourth. And I bet you right now the Falcons would rather have Fernando Mendoza than Michael Penn's Jr. I don't think that's even a conversation.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Emily Simpson
They would, they would be very happy with Mendoza right now.
Dan Patrick
If you're Houston, do you extend C.J. stroud now?
Emily Simpson
I would just because I think the number's only going to go up. But it has to be a common sense extension. It should not be one of these. It's your turn as a free agent. Let's reset the market with you because we've seen so much of that and it hasn't worked out. You know, these teams that extended early, really outside of Kansas City, the early extensions where contracts were bloated and ballooned didn't work out. So many of those guys ended up being cut. So I think you do it early if it can make sense financially. I don't think you give C.J. stroud $50 million a year, $60 million a year, some of the numbers that quarterbacks are expected to make in this next cycle. But I do think, I think CJ Struggles have been a little bit overstated because, you know, he's a third year quarterback. We expect these guys to make jumps. I would look at Houston's offensive line and say that offensive line just completely got reworked last year and they wiped the slate clean and started over. I still think CJ Stroud could be a really good quarterback in this league.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Matt. We'll be checking in with you.
Emily Simpson
Appreciate you, Dan. Thanks.
Dan Patrick
Matt Miller, ESPN NFL Draft Analyst NFL Draft Daily Weekdays at 3 on ESPN Tube ESPN app Disney plus we'll come back your phone calls after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. I do love Jeremiah Love. I just don't know where he fits in today's NFL. But being able to catch the ball is really important. You know, when you're watching the super bowl and this was pointed out by Chris Collinsworth, he said, hey, Kenneth Walker is is great runner. He just can't catch, not good at catching passes. And I think that Jameer Gibbs kind of hybrid, even B John Robinson, I don't know how many catches he had, but I want him to have at least 60 every year. I just want the ball in his hands and get him out in space. You know, they the Niners do a great job with McCaffrey, who might be more valuable as a wide receiver than he is a running back.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie Bijan this year in 17 games, 1500 yards rushing. He had 80 receptions here.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean, I got to get him the ball at all cost, at any cost. I got to get him out in space. But today's running back is not necessarily Kenneth Walker. It's more Jameer Gibbs. And I think that's where Jeremiah Love. And he's got that extra gear. And the fact that Matt Miller was saying, hey, Saquon Barkley and Jameer Gibbs or Jeremiah Love, very, very similar grades coming out of college.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, I have a comp on Jameer on Jeremiah Love of Notre Dame. A bigger, stronger Robert Smith of Ohio State. He has that track speed at the end, runs kind of upright, but he has a lot more to inside the tackles.
Dan Patrick
I thought he was going to be a star. Then he. When he drafted by Minnesota.
Paulie
Nice career there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. All right, some phone calls here. Rich in Athens. Hi, Rich. Hey, guys.
Emily Simpson
As always, sitting here with my puppy
Dan Patrick
dog, Fritzi, watching the DP show.
Emily Simpson
Got a quick question for all five of you guys. Other than being Dan and the Danette
Dan Patrick
on the DP show, what would be your dream career? Todd?
Todd
Well, since I'm not. I don't have enough money to own the Denver Broncos. I would be something. Maybe have some type of special position with the Broncos and have an office overlooking the Mile High stadium and the horse.
Dan Patrick
Oh, do you know what you would do?
Todd
Some type of executive position that paid a lot of money? I don't know exactly. Maybe something in community or media related, public relations.
Dan Patrick
I'm sure they'd love. Oh, by the way, we found the picture of you at Big Dean's in Santa Monica with the. With the sisters. And if you're watching on Peacock, if Mario can put that up there, there's Todd. And Todd is very, very involved in the conversation with one of the sisters. The other one, I think the one you're talking to, the one she was interested in talking to you because she was a fan of the show. The other one, she had no interest whatsoever. She did not care, didn't understand, did
Todd
not have any understanding at all as to how he could possibly talk sports. For three.
Dan Patrick
You were hoarding the. The girls that night, the women.
Todd
I wasn't intending to, but I found it.
Dan Patrick
Like you said, I found a new audience. No, you are. You're. You're a hoarder. Look at your body language. You were kind of boxing people out.
Todd
Had my elbow out and everything.
Dan Patrick
I mean, some of the back room guys are single and you were not a team player.
Todd
They come over I'd say I'm busy, guys. We'll talk later. See.
Seaton
Yeah, see, I wonder if those women know the impact they've had on this show. I wonder if they're aware.
Dan Patrick
Well, I would think the sister, the one sister who was, you know, interested in Todd talking. She's a listener though, isn't she, Todd? That the ones. The fan that I think it started
Todd
with, I think the mom was a fan and she came down to the show.
Dan Patrick
The mom was a fan.
Todd
She introduced the two daughters. And so I don't know how much of a fan the two daughters are, but I think mom listened a lot.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Seaton, what would be your dream job?
Seaton
Working in soccer, either for a team or a league or one of the broadcast partners. That's. I would love that, Marvin.
Marvin
Probably producing a basketball podcast.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Paul.
Paulie
Developing travel TV shows.
Marvin
Travel?
Paulie
Yeah, more like travel experience, you know, like whether it be like a brewery tour, things like that, like TV shows.
Dan Patrick
I would probably just be an actor, full time actor, probably mostly unemployed, but I'd be a full time actor.
Seaton
Semi retired.
Dan Patrick
Yes. I'm reading scripts now. I would be like Daniel Day Patrick. Yeah. I don't know if I'm retired. Maybe something brings me back. I'd be between projects. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, if you could host Entertainment Tonight once a week, would you do it?
Dan Patrick
No.
Paulie
You wouldn't?
Marvin
Once a week?
Dan Patrick
No, I don't think so.
Seaton
That is, that is by far your dream job is hosting Entertainment Tonight.
Dan Patrick
It used to be when Mary Hart was there there.
Seaton
Can we get Access Hollywood? Can we get Nancy o' Dell back in the picture?
Dan Patrick
Nancy o' Dell alding. I like Nancy o'. Dell. No, I don't think those shows have the impact that they once did.
Paulie
Wow.
Dan Patrick
No, I'm saying they don't. I would probably host Jeopardy. I'd probably do that. That was. And I was pretty close to hosting that years ago. So thank you there, Rich. David in Maine. Hi, David. Hey, morning, Dan. Good morning, Dan. As I am a first time caller, 6 foot 1, 190 and dropping. Hey, I want to ask your opinion when it comes to the Olympic, the team sports, hockey, basketball, is it better to win a silver medal or a bronze medal? If you win a silver, that means you just lost a game, but if
Paulie
you win a bronze, you just won a game.
Dan Patrick
I would rather settle for the silver. I don't want to say win the silver, but settle for a silver because I at least got a chance to play for the championship or the gold. Todd.
Todd
Yeah, but bronze. You won a medal all right, you got a medal. But Silva, you lost the goal.
Dan Patrick
That's participation trophy stuff. Marvin, how about you? The silver Seaton. Silver, Paul.
Seaton
Silver.
Dan Patrick
Final hour in this Thursday, the gold medal performance.
This is an I heart podcast, guaranteed human.
