You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio, Hour two on this Meet Friday Dan and the Danets Dan Patrick Show. Come on in, stay a while. Traeger Grills will be fired up here in a little bit. We're already fired up. We have oysters well fleet and lucky lime oysters on the half shell steak frites with Bernays sauce and steakhouse wedge salad. Who has it better than we do? Albert Brear, the Monday morning quarterback will join us. Coming up a little bit. We'll talk to him about the latest news that Aaron Rodgers will be in camp Mandatory minicamp kicks off on June 10th. The well respected insider Jerry Dulac, a frequent guest on this program Pittsburgh Post Gazette is the one who broke the news saying Rogers informed the Steelers that he will not only sign but plans to attend the mandatory mini camp that will kick off coming up next week. 8773 DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com twitter handle @dpshow I did ask the back room guys, I said could you make up a graphic because you know that the start of the NFL season so we can let our audience know, you know how many days we have a countdown clock and she have the number of days and hours and minutes and seconds. And then this is when Mario, the director of the show puts that up on the screen to let the no.
Dan Patrick
1'S better than us. I think we need a countdown clock for when we're getting the countdown clock.
Todd Fritz
Okay. Okay, here we go. Five, four, three, two, one. What? Okay, there's that. See, this is how can we win a sports Emmy. We had planned this out.
Dan Patrick
Are you sure you planned it out or did you just spring it on them?
Todd Fritz
No.
Dan Patrick
Gotta feel sprung rather than admit.
Todd Fritz
No Paulie's seen this.
Dan Patrick
It's been up before.
Todd Fritz
We we had this big graphic made up and I said Dress it up with fireworks. And we're going to get ahead of, you know, ESPN and Fox and anybody else, and we're gonna, we're gonna show that. How many days and hours.
Dan Patrick
We're not really planners on the show. We're more like, throw an idea out and then five days later be like, do the idea.
Todd Fritz
Oh, yes.
Dan Patrick
But I think it takes a little bit longer. This is the disconnect between the talent in the truck guys. We call them the truck guys. Like, how come it's not up? Because you didn't say it was going to be. You're going to put it up to me.
Todd Fritz
I just went in the back and talked to Mario.
Dan Patrick
Oh, then nevermind, then.
Todd Fritz
That's all Mario and I saw the graphic and I said, oh, okay. You know, now Aaron Rodgers. Now we can focus on the start of the NFL season. Aaron Rodgers is back. Everybody can take a deep breath and now we can get ready. Will we get this graphic up in time for those watching on pco?
Dan Patrick
Good question. I'll tell you what, it's certainly setting up for a grand reveal. Oh, no, we've already had it up.
Todd Fritz
You said we've. We've shown it before. Yeah. There it is. And here's the big reveal. And look at the fireworks. Oh, this is incredible.
Dan Patrick
Is this from the mind of Dan Patrick?
Todd Fritz
Yes. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it looks like Techmo bowl from the old days.
Todd Fritz
Yes. Okay, now we have to put up the days and the hours and the minutes and the seconds. Oh, it's a big reveal. Here it comes.
Dan Patrick
I'll tell you what, if we don't win a sports Emmy, we're definitely winning a Marconi for this radio. Yeah, we are crushing that.
Todd Fritz
Yep. Nothing like disavowing any knowledge of your radio audience.
Dan Patrick
Podcast is loving this. They're eating this up. Sure.
Todd Fritz
Oh, my God. No. What time?
Paul Pabst
As long as it gets up in the next 96 days and 12 hours before the actual kickoff of the season, I think we're still okay.
Todd Fritz
Yeah. Yes.
Seton O'Connor
Paul, you know, you mentioned entering us.
Dan Patrick
In other sports Emmy categories.
Seton O'Connor
Can we honestly enter best achievements in technical directing or best achievements in technical innovation for this?
Todd Fritz
Sure, sure. Anywho, how about them Pacers? They beat the Thunder last night. And a last second shot by Tyrese Halliburton. And once again, it sounded like this. Gildas Alexander spins, pulls up, jumper off.
Seton O'Connor
The mark, won't go. Rebound N. Pacers with a chance to win it.
Todd Fritz
Halliburton looking.
Seton O'Connor
Halliburton driving, pulls off, jump shot. It's good.
Todd Fritz
With 3, 10 of a second remaining timeout. OKC. Tyrese Halliburton does it again. Pacers have five playoff wins this postseason when trailing by at least 15. And in case you're wondering what's the point spread for game two, it's OKC favored by 11. You have game two Panthers and the Oilers coming up tonight as well. Now, if you're commissioner of the NHL, commissioner of the NBA, you got what you wanted. You got excitement with game one Edmonton and overtime against Florida, and then of course, the comeback with Indiana last night. Because if Tyrese Halliburton misses the shot, then people are going to go, well, all right, they survived a little scare there, and they're probably going to win in five, something like that. And you might still say they're still going to win in five, but at least if you have a puncher's chance, when somebody says they have no chance, I should take away your scholarship. If you're a member of the media and you say somebody doesn't have a chance, you have a chance. They had a chance and they took advantage of the chance. And now at least they've got Oklahoma City's attention. And maybe they've got the casual basketball fans attention, like, okay, but you want to talk about a postseason for the ages? Tyrese Halliburton. Stat of the day, brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the dan Patrick show. Six men, six women. So many ladders. Seton O'Connor
Dan, the I team just got the news.
Dan Patrick
And on an update on our graphic, the countdown graphic to the NFL season statement from the back room.
Seton O'Connor
Quote, the computer that we had it.
Dan Patrick
On just completely died. Standby and updated. I just have.
Todd Fritz
There it is.
Seton O'Connor
We have it.
Dan Patrick
Now is the statement from the back.
Todd Fritz
Okay, we have 90 days, 10 hours, 12 minutes and 10 seconds before the start of the NFL season. That clock, that's live.
Dan Patrick
How sure are we that that's accurate?
Todd Fritz
I have no idea. I have no idea. Seaton, to be honest with you, I'm gonna guess it's probably not accurate. I mean, just gonna say, okay, it's.
Paul Pabst
Hard to nail to the exact second for anybody. Even the NFL executives may not have. Exactly.
Todd Fritz
Poll question for hour two is gonna be one step.
Dan Patrick
Oh, man. Better oysters. East Coast, West Coast, Gulf Coast. Right now, the voting is in exactly that order. East coast has 47% of the vote. You've made a good point, though. That east coast is awake, west coast is waking.
Todd Fritz
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And who the Pacers will win the series? Losing five, lose in seven. Right now it is almost a dead heat between win the series and lose or six or seven.
Todd Fritz
Todd sent me a text. He goes, okay, so what now? Thunder and five. Thunder and six. Thunder and seven. Pacers in four. What? Question mark. Pacers in five. Slow your roll. Pacers in six or Pacers in seven?
Paul Pabst
I'm curious where the pulse is. How? You know, that whole recency bias thing. Where is everybody? If you don't have a dog in the race and you don't carry the way, which team wins? Like, where are we going with this game? One result.
Todd Fritz
I think it's a dog. Dog in the fire, dog in the race.
Paul Pabst
Dog in the race.
Todd Fritz
It should be a dog or a horse in the fight.
Paul Pabst
But aren't you curious, like, what. I wonder what the average sports fan thinks of, like, how is this going to end now? Especially if you thought it was going to possibly be a sweep.
Todd Fritz
I don't know if anybody has changed their opinion unless you said, okay, see, in four. But other than that, if you say five, those people probably feel like it could still be five games.
Paul Pabst
The Pacers played bad, 25 turnovers, and they still won. That's gotta make you start to think a little bit. Things that make you go, h for sure.
Todd Fritz
All right, bonus breakdown there.
Paul Pabst
I'm still saying thunder at six anyway. But I'm just saying there are others that may say, whoa, wait a second here.
Todd Fritz
And then Todd sends me a text yesterday. I get a lot of messages from Todd. I was playing golf yesterday.
Paul Pabst
They're all pretty harmless, though.
Todd Fritz
I know, but it's just, I'm playing golf and then I could hear my phone and. And I shouldn't have put my phone on vibrate, but I did, just in case my wife needed to get a hold of me. Anybody in the family emergency. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I hear this.
Paul Pabst
I don't remember what I said, so I'm.
Todd Fritz
No, no. You said, if I'm a Steeler fan today, I'm mainly annoyed, apathetic, happy, relieved, or super excited.
Paul Pabst
I think those are fair, you know, the whole gamut of emotions.
Todd Fritz
I didn't need to get that yesterday afternoon. I mean, that saved some of your good stuff for the morning.
Paul Pabst
I felt like you needed to know right away how I felt about that particular idea right in the middle of your golf.
Todd Fritz
I know, and I appreciate that. If you were with this earlier in the week, Derrick Henry, the Ravens running back, was on, and we had the following exchange about. He told me he's a big Adam Sandler fan, and I thought, you know what? Maybe I could talk to the Sandman of getting Derek Henry in a movie.
Dan Patrick
Appreciate it, Dan. Thank you for wearing that.
Todd Fritz
That.
Dan Patrick
That hoodie, man. I'm green. Brighten up my day. Appreciate it.
Todd Fritz
Well, this is Happy Gilmore 2. This is what Adam Sandler gave me. Okay.
Dan Patrick
That's one of my. You know, I was telling my favorite actor. So that's what's up.
Todd Fritz
So that. That's the Happy Gilmore golf swing right there. That patch right there.
Dan Patrick
Hey, if you. Hey. Hey, can you do me a favor?
Todd Fritz
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
If you ever see him again, tell him I'm a really big fan. I would really love to meet him one day.
Todd Fritz
Okay. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna text him today and ask if he'll send a video, please, and then I'm gonna send it to the Ravens.
Dan Patrick
Okay, cool. I'm.
Todd Fritz
I'm a huge fan. Okay. And if you get to 2,000 yards, I'll get you in a Sandler movie.
Dan Patrick
All right, cool. Say no more.
Todd Fritz
Is that all right?
Dan Patrick
Remember that? Now you remember this? Remember that?
Todd Fritz
No, no, I'll take care of my end of it.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Todd Fritz
I mean, mine's easy. Yeah, yours is hard. You got to get 2,000 yards. No pressure.
Dan Patrick
That is on. No pressure at all.
Todd Fritz
All right. Okay. So I reached out to the Sandman.
Dan Patrick
Say no more.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, say no more. I'll take care of my end of it. You take care of your end of it. And I reached out to Sandler, and so we. If you're watching on Peacock, you'll be able to see Sandler. And then Derrick Henry is given the video after practice, and he's watching Sandler with this video to him. Also, if you're listening on radio, it starts with Derrick Henry when he realizes Sandler has sent him a video. And then you'll hear Sandler and his response. So, Marvin. Yo, Derek. I just woke up. You know that that's why I look.
Seton O'Connor
Disgusting on top of the fact that I am disgusting. But I love you. Congrats on everything, baby. 2,000 yards. Plus this year gets you not only.
Todd Fritz
In the movie, but we have a.
Seton O'Connor
Nice dinner together and talk about Dan Patrick's facial hair and how hard it is for him to grow it.
Dan Patrick
I love you.
Todd Fritz
Keep it up.
Seton O'Connor
This guy says hello. Apparently, he's itchy this morning. He's scratching himself on the wall. I'm in a Hotel right now.
Todd Fritz
I'm sure you've been in a few.
Seton O'Connor
Okay, love you, buddy. Take care. Again, sorry for the disgusting face.
Dan Patrick
I'll send that to you, Derek. I appreciate that, man.
Todd Fritz
That's cool. And then Derek Henry sent me a direct message to thank me for hooking him up with Adam Sandler. So. Sandler. Sandler had his bulldog with him. Here's the direct message that Dan. Thank you. Sending the message in the video. That was really cool. Much love, Derek Henry. But Sandman has his bulldog there walking along the. The hallway in this hotel scratching himself.
Dan Patrick
The dog's walking along. Yeah, like walking along the wall, scratching them as they're going.
Todd Fritz
Derek Henry, Fritzi is telling me, was with us on Tuesday. So Tuesday Sandman recorded the video, got it to Derek, and then we wanted to record his reaction to Sandman offering up a movie role in who knows, might be Grown Ups 3 or Happy Gilmore 3. Who knows?
Dan Patrick
That's awesome.
Todd Fritz
Yes. Thank you, Sandman. JJ in Florida. Hi, JJ what's on your mind? Good morning. Thanks for taking the call. Dan. Yeah, a couple of things. I don't know if you're aware, but the commercial for Happy Gilmore 2 aired during the first hockey game the night before last. Yeah, the trailer. Yeah, the trailer for the movie. Have you seen the trailer? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sandman sent that to me a while ago and you were the trailer. Yeah, I'm in there. You know, you were the biggest part of it.
Seton O'Connor
That's.
Todd Fritz
You were the one that.
Dan Patrick
Come on.
Todd Fritz
But you buried the lead. You said Samur likes to stick a mustache on you, but I think I saw either a large Chia Fat on your face or a full beard, so. And as a lifelong Steeler fan, I'd.
Seton O'Connor
Like to throw in my two cents.
Todd Fritz
I'm ready to become a Philadelphia Eagle. Wow. Well, you can hold on for another year, you know, with the, with Aaron Rodgers. We'll, we'll. We'll talk to the Monday morning quarterback, Albert Brear, who had some information on the signing here with the Steelers. I. It just, it doesn't solve your quarterbacking issues. It's. It's a one year rental here. That's the only. Like, I get it. You're going to go with Aaron Rogers. He's an upgrade over Mason Rudolph. Okay. Were there other options here that were better than this, that maybe helped you longer term? Does Kirk Cousins make more sense longer term? How long is Mike Tomlin going to coach Pittsburgh? He could coach elsewhere. He could be an analyst. You know, I wonder about that as well, could this be a one and done for Rogers and Mike Tomlin? So we'll talk to Albert. He'll join us coming up. 877-3-DP show email address dp@danpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP Show Good morning. Tom, we'll get to your phone calls. Coming up, more on Oklahoma City blowing a double digit lead in the fourth quarter to the Pacers. Have that for you coming up. In case you're wondering, The Pacers are 11 point underdogs game two against the Thunder. I mentioned the Steelers odds. Their odds to win the super bowl did not change with the news with Aaron Rodgers. Also eight and a half wins didn't really change too much there with the Steelers. It feels like with the over under you always take the over if it's going to be nine wins. The question I would want to know over under playoff wins this year if you put it at a half. Let's bring in Albert Breer. He's the Monday morning quarterback, senior NFL reporter. How did you celebrate Aaron Rodgers news there? Albert?
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, with a big sigh of relief. That didn't happen on Friday.
Todd Fritz
Did you think it was going? I thought it was going to happen on Friday. I thought it was going to happen today.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, I, I had a, I had a feeling it's gonna happen this week because I, I know. Yeah, I don't think next week is a drop dead deadline for the Steelers because I, they weren't pushy with him, but I do think they, they, they articulated to him, hey, it'd be important, you know, for you to be here for that minicamp from, from June 10th to the 12th. So, you know, if you're gonna, if you're going to take part in that minicamp, probably means you want to get in at the end of the week. And you know, as it turns out, he is flying there on a Friday. So, like it actually is happening on Friday. It's just that the news got out on Thursday in all likelihood because he had to plan to get there on Friday.
Todd Fritz
It's a short term fix, but it kind of kicks the can down the road that this is, this is one year. And yeah, that's what still surprises me, that they're all in for one year.
Seton O'Connor
So do you remember you and I sitting at the super bowl, we were talking about Matthew Stafford and I brought up the Steelers as a potential suitor for him and I think, you know, it made some headlines and people are like, whoa, what do you mean? Like the Steelers would do that? Yeah, I kind of had an inkling that they had this, this discussion internally. They were never bringing Russell Wilson back and I think if they were bringing Justin Fields back, they wanted to continue working with him, but it wasn't necessarily going to be as the starter. And I really like, kind of like as I looked at their situation and one of the reasons I use them as like the perfect suitor for Stafford applies to Rogers too. They're so leveraged for right now. You know what I mean? Like, and if you look at like their roster, T.J. t.J. Watts turning 31. Minka Fitzpatrick's turning 29. Cam Hayward's in the back end of his career. DK Metcalf, who they just acquired on his third contract now, now he's not old, but he has been beat up and again on his third contract. They really are in this spot where it's like, if they want to win with the core that they've built, then it almost has to be right now. And yes, they're still chasing the mistake of taking Kenny Pickett in the first round, but the way I look at this is taking a quarterback in the first round wasn't going to solve anything this year with this group, I think the guys that you were looking at there were developmental at best. Like, you were probably looking at, like, all right, we get the most out of this guy in 26 or 27. And that doesn't really help you with the core that you have right now. So if you wanted to get somebody for right now, I think the question becomes, do you want to try to hit a single or a double? And this is no affront to these guys, you know, like a Daniel Jones trade for a Kirk Cousins, whatever it is, or do you want to take a big swing for the fences? And I think that's what this is. It's like, if you want to win a Super bowl with T.J. watt, if you want to win a Super bowl with Minka Fitzpatrick, if you want to win a Super Bowl, Cam Heyward, who's given your franchise so much over the years, how are you going to accomplish that? And like, yeah, there's a chance that, you know, Aaron Rodgers gets hurt or the age shows or whatever it is, so you might take that big swing and miss, but he's also got the best chance of putting one over the fence for you, you know, and so I think that's sort of the way the Steelers viewed this, is with this core, you know, with this short window that they have left with this core of players, they. They couldn't swing for a single or a double. They had to swing for the fences.
Todd Fritz
Talking to Albert Brear, the Monday morning quarterback, the Lions off season, pretty rough. You lose your coordinators now, you lose your starting center. What does that do to you in your eyes, as far as being a Super bowl contender? If anything, test you in a lot.
Seton O'Connor
Of ways and look like. I think part of this is that they got the bonus year for Ben Johnson. So this would have happened gradually if Ben Johnson had went, like, sort of through the natural order of things. But he really liked it in Detroit. He thought he could be. The extra year or two of development could be useful for him, you know, and so he stays the extra year. You could argue he stayed an extra two years because he did have opportunities two years ago. So now you're dealing with that all at once, where you have attrition both on offense and defense, you know, at the top of the chart, you know, and then I. Frank Ragnow, I'm not going to minimize that loss at all like that. He's a. He was a rock for them, a foundation piece for them and a really important position. And you're taking that out of what has been the Maybe the biggest strength on the team over the last couple of years is your offensive line. So I sort of look at it like, you know, you remember that those great giant defensive lines, like, they kept feeding that pipeline, right? Like they kept drafting guys and drafting guys and drafting guys. So a strength would always stay a strength. So, like, you know, the question here is, is that as big a strength for them, is that as much of their identity now as it was before? As you're breaking in a new offensive coordinator with Johnny Morton taking over for, for. For Ben Johnson. Look, it's a lot, you know, it's definitely a lot. And it's going to test a lot of people there. Is there going to be a drop, Drop off from, From Ragnar to Glasgow or, or Ratledge or whoever winds up playing center? I think you certainly have to account for that. You know, Ragnar is an all pro player. Is there going to be a drop off at the coordinator spots? You have to be prepared for that. Even if, you know, you think the world of guys who are replacing Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. So it's a lot, no question. And, and it's. And it's in a division that's going to be pretty unforgiving this year, too.
Todd Fritz
The Colts situation, it looks like Daniel Jones may win that job by default with Anthony Richardson. Now the shoulder injury and I started to think about, they drafted Anthony Richardson the way NBA teams will draft a player who's a project. Like, you know, this guy Ace Bailey who played at Rutgers, and you're like, man, he's really athletic. Can he play? I don't know, but he's athletic. Anthony Richardson struggled to keep his job in college, and then we found that, you know, he was gassed during a game and took himself out. And I don't know if we like the philosophy of drafting that, where you just base it off one year. And I mean, this may go down as a huge, huge whiff for that organization.
Seton O'Connor
I mean, he's so raw coming out. You know, I think everybody saw the talent, ability, but you have to, you know, demonstrate an ability to actually do it on the field. And there wasn't a lot of that, you know, so they were really projecting and, you know, Shane Steichen coming in and how, you know, Shane was a part of developing Jalen Hurts. They had some confidence that, like, hey, we can take this kind of ball of clay and shape it into something. Even though he only started 13 games in college, which is an absurdly low number, I'd argue this is also the Result of like, you know, sort of predetermining. And I think this is where you have to be really careful, Daniel. Predetermining that this is the draft where we're going to take a quarterback.
Todd Fritz
Oh, yeah. Yes.
Seton O'Connor
You know, I just, I like, I mean you remember it as well as I do, right? Like, so luck retires after 18. No one saw it coming. Brissette 19. Rivers in 20, Wentz in 21. Ryan in 22. Owner gets fed up. Frank Wright gets fired in the middle of the year. Jeff Saturday put in. Come hell or high water, we're going, we're going to get our quarterback in 2023. Well, is the reality of it, they took the third quarterback in a two quarterback draft. You know what I mean? Like, and like that's how you. Again, we've seen it time and again. That's how E.J. manual goes to Buffalo 16th overall. It's how Kenny Pickett goes in the first round of Pittsburgh.
Todd Fritz
Christian Ponder.
Seton O'Connor
Christian. Christian Ponder. Yeah, to the Vikings. Like if you predetermine, I think like teams were prone to that happening this year, you know, like where it just, you have to draft the player. You can't just draft the position, you know. And I do think to some degree the Colts were in this spot where they were drafting the position in 2023 because they were on under something of a mandate to do so because they had had such a revolving door at that spot. I think it's, I think it's a huge, huge, huge red flag, Red flag for any team thinking like going into this year, yes, we're taking a quarterback next year, you know, and here's the other thing. Like what you, what, what did it cost you? Well, it really cost you three off seasons of finding a quarterback because you didn't get it right in 23. And then the last two years you've just backstopped Richardson last year, you know, with Joe Flacco and this year with, with, with Daniel Jones. So you've ostensibly lost. I mean, unless Daniel Jones winds up being the quarterback of the future, I'm not ruling anything out. But you know, you've, you've, you've lost three, three more off seasons now as a result of that pick. It, it can be really damaging to a franchise for sure.
Todd Fritz
Where do we stand with the Stefan Diggs boat party story?
Seton O'Connor
Yeah, I would say so. So first of all, like, I think the first thing you want to, you want to lay out here is how important culture has been for, for, for Mike Vrabel and Trying to establish what he wants to build there. I think they followed the commander's blueprint to some degree. If you look at all the guys that Dan Quinn and Adam Peters signed in the 2024 off season, almost every one of them had a connection to someone on the coaching staff. And it was because they wanted to know that they were getting the right types of guys to plug into their program in year one. And, you know, Mike did a lot of that in the off season. Milton Williams was an exception, but he was a plus character in Philly. Almost everybody else that they signed had some sort of background, and this one, Diggs was sort of the dice roll. So I think this happening this early and it's not so much being on a boat on Memorial Day weekend or even the bag of drugs, it's like, how do you allow yourself to be filmed like that? Now you've created a week long story for everybody else on the team. So I think the big thing was, did he make it out of that week? Did he sit down and have an honest conversation with Mike Vrabel? Was he straightforward with him and can they move forward now? This doesn't disappear because if something else were to happen, of course, like, you know, he already has a strike against him, right? Like that. It's not like it's just vanishes off the ledger. Because if something else were to happen then, like, you know, I think that then, then, you know, you would certainly look back and say, okay, this is twice now, dude. But, you know, I do think it's. That the juncture is happening can be fortuitous for the Patriots. And they could say, okay, like now, you know, like, this is what people were worried about with you. We really need you to be a leader for the team. And the good news is, like, I think Steph is deep down a good guy. His work ethic has always been beyond reproach. He's been a captain for multiple teams. Like, I just. I think that there's a. There's a good path out of this, but it certainly doesn't disappear from the ledger.
Todd Fritz
Allegedly drugs.
Seton O'Connor
Did I not say allegedly? I'm sorry.
Todd Fritz
Yeah.
Seton O'Connor
I have no idea what was in the bag. I wasn't on the boat. Wasn't invited.
Todd Fritz
Yeah. Would you have gone on the boat if invited?
Seton O'Connor
Sure, sure, sure. Did they lose your invite in the mail too?
Todd Fritz
I don't think I want to be on that boat. You know?
Seton O'Connor
You know, I would go on for journalistic purposes.
Todd Fritz
Of course you would. I would go on for Cardi B. Okay, this Team will have the number one pick in the draft this upcoming season.
Seton O'Connor
That's a tough one because this one's going to get aggregated. Man, New Orleans would be interesting, wouldn't it, if they had the first pick and they had a chance to take a quarterback. And would Arch Manning declare? I don't even want to get into that because I.
Todd Fritz
We don't.
Seton O'Connor
We still don't know on Arch, like, how good he's going to be when he's a starter for a full year. But, you know, that's going to be the storyline.
Todd Fritz
Right?
Seton O'Connor
I mean, his family history says there's no way he's coming out after one year starting right.
Todd Fritz
Like his. But if the Saints have the number one pick on the draft, then, I.
Seton O'Connor
Mean, like, wouldn't that be tempting, right?
Todd Fritz
Yes.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah. And their quarterback situation, I mean, I. The Saints are an interesting one because I don't think they're a bad. I don't think it's a bad team. Like, I don't think it's a bad roster. Like, I think their offensive line actually has a chance to be really good with Kelvin Banks coming in there. You know, the defensive line still has, I think, promise maybe get a little bit more out of Chase Young this year. Cam Jordan's back for his 25th year, you know, so, like, I think that there are elements of a good team there, and I think for a young quarterback coming in eventually, this could be a really good spot. I just. I don't know how quarterback's gonna undermine them this year, you know, like the back end of the defense. I'm not sure where that's how that's gonna look like. I think the lines give them an opportunity to stay in games, but the rest of it is kind of like, like, you know, like, let's see what this looks like. And. And, yeah, I mean, I. Wouldn't that definitely be the storyline, though, right? Like.
Todd Fritz
Yes.
Seton O'Connor
Yeah. If. If we get to December and they're near the top of the draft order and Texas is like, in the national title picture. Yeah, it could be pretty interesting.
Todd Fritz
Albert, have a great weekend. The Monday morning quarterback. Thank you.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Seton O'Connor
Thanks, Dan.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, you imagine. Feels like Arch is going to stay for two years, and I'm sure that that would be something that the Manning family would advise him. Get some starts. Get some big starts under your belt, get 25, close to 30 starts under your belt, then you'll be ready. But can you pass up the opportunity to be the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints? Sean in Oregon? Hey, Sean. What's on your mind?
Seton O'Connor
Hey, thanks for taking my call, Dan.
Todd Fritz
I hear you guys talking about the odds on the Steelers and I'm thinking more like what are the odds that Arthur Smith finished the season with the Steelers? I've been watching Aaron Rodgers and what he's been doing and I watched what happened to the jets coaching staff and that whole team. I mean, I think the Steelers are a little more strong willed and a little bit better decision making than the jets, but I think this would get pretty nasty and I think a lot of the Steelers locker room have probably got their opinions already made. And if he doesn't, if they like Arthur Smith more than they like Aaron Rodgers, a couple of the linemen might play matador type line for a couple games and let something happen to him. I don't think that's going to happen. They want to win, they got a chance to win. With that, you may not like all your teammates, but if that guy can help you win, that's what it's, that's the bottom line. Dan in Ohio. Hi Dan. What's on your mind today? ADPD Dan.
Seton O'Connor
That's first time, long time, 510 and a wiry 130. The reason I'm calling is this Sunday I am headed out to Germany to see my daughter who is a captain in the army.
Todd Fritz
And she surprised me with a Father's Day weekend trip to Normandy.
Seton O'Connor
That was one of your most memorable trips. So I was hoping to maybe get.
Todd Fritz
A little advice on a couple places to stop. I know there's all kinds of stuff there, but I just wanted to get your, get your opinion on the matter. All right. You got a great daughter. If she surprised you with that for Father's Day, go to the American cemetery, the US Cemetery with all the soldiers who, who died there and go to the German cemetery because you will see. I mean, it's unbelievable the difference between those two. Even you know, the gravestones, the Americans, they're white stone and Germany, they're black. You know, the, the feeling of pride at the, the U.S. cemetery as opposed to going to the German cemetery and get there for taps, okay. If you get an opportunity to get there in the evening when they bring the American flag down at the cemetery, it is, it's so moving. It, it, it'll, it'll hit you hard. If you can get a walking tour, if you get a guide who can help you with some of the smaller things that I wasn't aware of, but it was so rewarding. Unbelievable. And then when you go to Omaha B I mean, when you see what those kids, when they got off those boats and you can see where the Germans had positioned their machine guns, there's still little caves cut out. They had no chance, none. And they got out of those boats. And the way the Germans position their machine guns, they were shooting at angles, you know, against the soldiers, not straight ahead. They were going sideways. And it, it is a very, very, very powerful scene. Moment feel. I just sat on the beach. I cried. Yes.
Dan Patrick
That picture of the. Yeah, I think it's called like into the jaws of, of death maybe. But it's that very famous picture of sort of the landing barge and the, the front has gone down for everybody to run off of. And you can see, you know, the, the walls of the barge sort of frame the picture and all you can see is straight through what all of these people ran through and where they were running to. It's one of the most powerful photographs ever taken.
Todd Fritz
I just can't imagine you're 18, 19 years of age and all of a sudden you're pulling up and you're seeing, I mean, it's just a massacre, it truly is. And you're getting off that boat and damn. I mean, if you have kids, you imagine an 18 year old son getting off that boat, 19 years of age, everybody getting shot right in front of you. But there's so much, so many historical artifacts there and you know, planes that they jumped out of and jeeps that they rode in and it just, it, it'll, it'll hit you. It'll hit you hard. All right, let me take a break. We'll get some more phone calls coming up. We're back after this.

Dan Patrick
I got Jamal Tinsley at point.
Todd Fritz
Okay. I got Jeff Hornacek at shooting guard. Horny. I got Halliburton at the 3. I got knee Yang at the 4. I got Pfizer at center. Marcus Pfizer, that is. And I got Fred Hoiberg coming off the bench since he took that Nebraska job. But who's beating this Cyclone team, Dan? Nobody. I thought Pfizer was going to be a thing. So did the Bulls, right? Did they take him?
Dan Patrick
Took him early, too.
Todd Fritz
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Who's beating that team?
Todd Fritz
A bunch of everybody. Yeah. Time to slide into the weekend. Brought to you by Kings Hawaiian. You got your summer going. Grilling season ready to go. Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Kid is no joke. He went off Yesterday, too.
Todd Fritz
Yes, it was a scoring binge.
Dan Patrick
It was.
Todd Fritz
Yes, it was the Belmont Stakes. On the gambling podcast, Shay and Irving and Bad Larry and Dylan, the graphics guy, I think they were all kind of in agreement of who's going to win. Sovereignty is the big fave at 2 to 1. But they. Do you remember what they had, Marvin? I forget who they picked to. It was like the horse, six, horse seven, something like that. Yes, Paulie.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Sovereignty and journalism are the heavyweights.
Todd Fritz
I'm kind of rooting for journalism here as a concept. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Not the horse itself, the future of it.
Todd Fritz
Yeah. Pablo Torre. That's who. That's who I'm rooting for. I'm rooting for Pablo Torre, otherwise known as journalism.
Paul Pabst
That could be a little crude. So I'm gonna go crude. Oh, I would like to see Crudeau finished first in that race.
Todd Fritz
Thank you. Yes.
Seton O'Connor
Another thing I'm looking forward to sliding.
Dan Patrick
Into the weekend, Texas Tech, Texas, softball game three.
Todd Fritz
Is that. This is for the championship?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think that's tonight.
Todd Fritz
And then, you know that girl from Texas Tech is going to pitch again, right?
Dan Patrick
Doesn't get tired.
Todd Fritz
She. She's pitched like 400 innings, almost 500 innings I think this year. I think she pitches. Did she pitch every single game for them? Checking Texas Tech. Well, they're paying her a million dollars, so I guess you got to get your money's worth. And then you got Panthers and the Oilers coming up tonight, Game two, Zach and Iowa. Hi, Zach. What's on your mind today? By the way, that's sliding into the weekend, brought to you by the great folks at Kings, Hawaiian Kings, Hawaiian rolls and slider buns. And enjoy. What do you have, Zach? Good morning, Dan. I'm a Thunder fan. Have been since they drafted Katie back to Seattle. I'm also an Iowa State fan. I'm born and raised, season ticket holder. And Tyrese is not only just a great player for the Cyclones, but he's also a great ambassador for the team and just overall great guy. So last night might be the most bittersweet moment that I can remember of my fandom. And it reminds me, I know you talked about game one of the 2001 finals. Yeah. Also kind of reminds me of the 2012 finals when the Thunder won game one. But as a Yankees fan, it also reminds me of game one of the World Series last year when Freddie Freeman had a walk off grand slam. But the worst part is I called in with my newborn son a couple of weeks ago. So after last night's game, not only Do I have to put up with what happened? I then had to go change a poopy diaper, bottle, feed and put the kid to sleep. Thank you, Zach. Thank you for sharing. It's Najeri Kennedy.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd Fritz
Is that right, Marvin?
Dan Patrick
It is.
Todd Fritz
Okay. She has five complete games in the College World Series. She has thrown all 495 pitches for Texas Tech in the College World Series.
Dan Patrick
This is the Stat of the Day.
Todd Fritz
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America. Yes, Paul.
Seton O'Connor
This season candidate for Texas tech. She pitched 239innings.
Dan Patrick
The other two pitchers pitched 96 and 69innings.
Todd Fritz
Yes, Todd.
Paul Pabst
And her rotator cuff is going to be on display in the lobby behind glass. You can go check it out.
Todd Fritz
Wow. By the way, shout out to Jenny Bootcheck. She's an assistant coach with the Pacers. She went to Virginia, which is where Rick Carlisle went to. She is diagramming plays there. In the final minutes of last night's game, Jenny Buchek played at Virginia. Congratulations. Got some airtime last night. Channing Fry, the former NBA player. He'll join us coming up. Podcast Summary: The Dan Patrick Show – Hour 2: Derrick Henry’s Adam Sandler Promise & Albert Breer
Podcast Information:
The episode begins with Dan Patrick and co-host Todd Fritz gearing up for a lively discussion filled with sports insights, pop culture anecdotes, and listener interactions. The primary focus revolves around the imminent NFL season, featuring a significant update about Aaron Rodgers joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.
At [04:42], Dan introduces a countdown graphic for the NFL season's kickoff. The team humorously navigates the challenges of implementing the graphic, reflecting their spontaneous planning style:
Dan Patrick ([04:48]): "We're not really planners on the show. We're more like, throw an idea out and then five days later be like, do the idea."
The countdown finally appears at [09:48], announcing "90 days, 10 hours, 12 minutes, and 10 seconds" until the NFL season begins, though they humorously express skepticism about its accuracy.
A significant portion of the discussion centers on Aaron Rodgers' decision to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, as reported by insider Albert Breer. At [24:54], Albert delves into the implications of this move:
Albert Breer ([25:04]): "Taking a quarterback in the first round wasn't going to solve anything this year with this group... They had to swing for the fences."
The hosts analyze the Steelers' strategy, emphasizing it as a one-year rental that aims to maximize their current roster's potential rather than investing in long-term solutions like Kirk Cousins. They explore the impact on key players and the team's overall dynamics, questioning whether this short-term fix will lead to lasting success.
A heartwarming segment involves Derrick Henry's interaction with Adam Sandler. The conversation at [12:07] highlights Henry's fandom and Patrick's playful promise:
Todd Fritz ([12:43]): "If you get to 2,000 yards, I'll get you in a Sandler movie."
This exchange showcases the blend of sports and entertainment that characterizes the show, adding a personal and humorous touch to their discussions.
Throughout the episode, Dan and Todd engage with listeners, addressing a variety of topics:
Steeler Fans’ Concerns ([38:11]–[39:59]): A listener from Oregon expresses anxiety about Aaron Rodgers' impact on the Steelers' locker room dynamics, questioning the long-term viability of the team’s coaching and quarterback decisions.
Dan Patrick ([39:43]): "Is that right, Marvin?"
Personal Stories ([39:59]–[43:24]): Another caller shares a poignant story about visiting Normandy with his daughter, highlighting the emotional depth and personal connections embraced by the hosts.
Seton O'Connor ([40:10]): "It’s so moving...it'll hit you hard."
At [33:57], the hosts tackle the controversial Stefan Diggs boat party story. They discuss the importance of team culture and leadership, contemplating Diggs' future with the Patriots amidst allegations:
Seton O'Connor ([34:01]): "How do you allow yourself to be filmed like that? Now you've created a week long story for everybody else on the team."
The conversation underscores the challenges teams face in maintaining professionalism and integrity, even amidst off-field distractions.
Further analysis is provided on other NFL teams struggling with their quarterback positions:
Indianapolis Colts ([28:35]–[33:57]): The hosts critique the Colts' decision to draft Anthony Richardson, comparing it to past questionable quarterback picks and discussing the potential long-term impact on the franchise.
Seton O'Connor ([32:07]): "What did it cost you? Well, it really cost you three off seasons of finding a quarterback because you didn't get it right in '23."
Returning to Derrick Henry, the hosts explore his athletic prowess and potential future endeavors outside the football field, linking back to the earlier Adam Sandler discussion.
The show seamlessly blends sports with pop culture, evident in the Derrick Henry and Adam Sandler segment, as well as discussions about upcoming movies and celebrity interactions, reflecting Dan Patrick’s signature style.
As the episode wraps up, Dan and Todd tease upcoming segments, including a deeper dive with Albert Breer on NFL strategies and potential guest appearances from notable sports figures. They encourage listeners to tune in for continued insights and engaging conversations.

Todd Fritz ([12:43]): "If you get to 2,000 yards, I'll get you in a Sandler movie."
Seton O'Connor ([34:01]): "How do you allow yourself to be filmed like that? Now you've created a week long story for everybody else on the team."
