You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. It's hour two on this Monday. Dan and the Dan Etch Dan Patrick show. Everybody's here. You got Marvin, you got Paulie, the minister of humor. Fritzi, seat in the back room, guys. And yours truly. Coming up, we'll talk to Gilbert Arenas, one of our favorites. He'll stop by. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. We will give you hours. Chris Maddox from Sports Illustrated covering the NBA Finals will join us from Oklahoma City as well. 877-3-DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP Show Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app. And we say good morning to our radio affiliates, including iHeartradio, Fox Sports Radio as well. I mentioned the at the end of last hour, DraftKings just sent me the NBA title odds for next season. The Oklahoma City Thunder are your favorites. Second on the list to win the title next year. The Houston Rockets plus 750.
Paulie
Wow.
Dan Patrick
They were plus 1200 before the Kevin Durant trademark. Then it's the Cavaliers and the Knicks are tied at plus 850. Then it drops down to Minnesota, the Nuggets, the Lakers and then the Celtics. The Pacers are plus 3,500 to win the NBA title. And that in large part because of the injury to Tyrese Halliburton. Stat of the Stat of the day. Here comes that one. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. I also have NBA MVP odds for next season. Paul, who do you think is the favorite According to DraftKings.
Paulie
I'm gonna go with SGA begrudgingly.
Dan Patrick
Todd, Jalen, Brunson, Seaton, LeBron, Marvin, Joker. Joker.
Marvin
Oh, yeah.
Dan Patrick
Then SGA and then it dips to Giannis Luca and Anthony Edwards. It's going to be hard for Shea Gilgis to win the MVP again next year. It just is. So he's going to have the same stats. He might average 33 a game, maybe increases his assist total. Maybe they have the best record in basketball. But we've seen that this is the hard part in repeating because it's something different. What is unique. Like Luca would be the guy that I would put my money on now. Joker. This could be the comeback. It's weird. I don't think it's a comeback. But hey, you didn't win, but you had your best season. All right, let's give it to sga, then we'll let you back in the MVP picture next year. Giannis, if he stays in Milwaukee, if You get your team into the playoffs. I mean, he had an unbelievable year, but he's. He's graduated to that level where you go, yeah, I know. Those are good numbers. Joker has graduated to that. Yeah, okay, that's fine. Those are nice numbers. SGA just gave us those numbers. Now he's got to try to out duel that, and that's going to be hard to do. Luca. Luca would be my choice at plus 800. Then Anthony Edwards after that. But keep in mind, those who vote, you know, it's consciously or subconsciously you like to have something new to talk about. This could be Lucas, Lakers. Luca in shape. Now all of a sudden you're seeing what he can be, and you just hope that the Lakers get a big man and then you might see them being a dangerous team and they should have been. You know, they fell short, in my opinion, but, you know, they did try to get a big man. Lucas said, hey, I need that. I'd like to get in the lane. I love to do alley oops here. Maybe they find that guy. But it's a good team. But you're in the West. And now Durant has relocated and Houston is a young, hungry team with a. A closer. And that's what you want come playoff time. And keep this in mind, with okc, they had a closer. No matter what else happened, they had a closer. And most great teams have that guy. You know, Jimmy Butler was that guy when he was with Miami, he was a closer. You know, Steph with Golden State, LeBron with the different teams that he played on. Even D. Wade, like, you gotta have the guy where you guys need a bucket? Hey, we can't get one. Can you help us? Can you help us get a bucket? That's what Durant gives you. Joker, he's gonna give you a bucket. Giannis will give you a buck. You gotta have the guy that everybody knows is gonna get the ball and he can still score. But those are just some of the odds for next season with Joker being the favorite, slight favorite over SGA to be the mvp. And the Thunder are the big favorites to win the title, followed by the Rockets. A big jump from plus 1200 to plus 7:50. All right, we'll get to phone calls coming up. Seaton, would you recap the poll question from the first hour?
Marvin
Yep, I sure can. Let's see what this NBA Finals is going to be most remembered for. Right now. It's the Halliburton injury at about 55% of that vote, followed by OKC's first title SGA becoming a star in the Durant trade are pretty far down there.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yeah. I'm going to remember, I think, 10 years from now, Tyrese Halliburton just with everything that happened, you know, the totality of the postseason and then, you know, hitting the shot in game one, and then all of a sudden, you get to a Game 7. What happened in Game 6? He started out really well in Game 7, and then all of a sudden when he went down, it. It almost felt like that took away some of the celebratory feel that OKC had or was hoping to have, because it just stops everything. You know, you have all this momentum, you have all this life in the building. You're going to win a title, and all of a sudden, that happens, and you hate seeing that. Obviously, he goes down and, I mean, you could just see him writhing in pain. And what happens when guys blow out their Achilles? They always look behind them. And you saw that Tyres. Halliburton thinks he got kicked. Durant talked about this. You know, Dan Marino, when he blew out his Achilles, they. They. It's like somebody kicked you, but all it is, is you blew out your Achilles. And we found out that you do not want to wear the number zero, because that's Dame Lillard, Kevin Durant, and now Tyrese Halliburton, who've had zero and blown out their Achilles. Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
I went back and looked at the. The statue of Achilles, and he did not have a zero on his. On his uniform.
Dan Patrick
Did he blow out his Achilles?
Paulie
Checking.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. Because I. Not sure. How did they come up with that name that. It's. We're going to call it the Achilles.
Paulie
He was a Greek hero of the Trojan War. The death of Achilles is in the Iliad. Dan, I know you read that.
Dan Patrick
I read the Odyssey.
Paulie
Pretended to read that.
Dan Patrick
I read the Odyssey.
Paulie
According to the myth, when his mother, Theiasis, dipped him in the river Styx, an infant, she held him by one of his heels, leaving it untouched by the waters and thus his only vulnerable body part. Hence, Achilles heel.
Dan Patrick
My bad. I. Fritz, you just corrected me. Jason Tatum, zero, not Kevin Durant. So the three that we. We've seen with Halliburton, Dame, and Tatum, all were zero. Yes.
Marvin
And later on in that story, Achilles is shot by an arrow in his heel. That's what gets him.
Paulie
Checking on that.
Dan Patrick
That's the Achilles.
Marvin
Two sources.
Dan Patrick
The Achilles.
Marvin
Yeah, the heel. And then that's finally what gets him.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Yeah, the Achilles heel.
Ryan Seacrest
And it made, like, a popping sound.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Tyler. Well, subject to an mri, of course, back then. Yes. Paul.
Paulie
Yeah. He was out for two to four years. I'm looking at them. It was bc they didn't have any medical back then. Is anyone else any other body part named after a person or mythological person, or is he the only guy?
Dan Patrick
I don't know. It just dawned on me that there's a guy named Achilles and that. That you have two Achilles. But I don't know. I don't know when they were naming. But who named body parts, by the way?
Marvin
The Adam's apple.
Dan Patrick
Well, we know that that's named after Adam. Adam and Eve. Why isn't it Eve's apple? I mean, Adam gave it to Eve.
Paulie
You're shifting the blame.
Dan Patrick
Yes, I am.
Paulie
A little late in the game to do that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I don't know who named body parts, how that worked.
Marvin
The Charles Testicle is feeling pretty proud of himself. He was like. That's right.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
Chuck Testy.
Marvin
Those are mine. I thought of those. Name them after me.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Charlie Testes. Yes.
Marvin
Charles Testicle.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. One of the great ones. Thank you. Yes. Do we have a poll question? Do we have a poll question for hour two?
Paulie
Oh, the backstory on Adam's apple? Because we gotta learn a little. Back in the 1600s, doctors used it because of a. In religious works, they said as the judgment of God against Adam. Said the apple was stuck in his throat. And then Doctors in the 1600s started saying, that's your Adam's apple. Back to you.
Dan Patrick
Okay, well, who do you put the blame on, Adam or Eve there? Just Sam.
Marvin
It's pretty convenient, I'll tell you that. It's awfully convenient.
Dan Patrick
Got off Scotch free and Scot free. I don't think he was drinking Scotch. Seaton. What's. Poll question for hour two?
Marvin
We got one here, man.
Dan Patrick
This.
Marvin
One of the answers in this is. I don't know if it's controversial, but it's shocking to read and I think accurate. Okay, this one's from Paul. If you owned an NBA team and can add one Giannis from the Bucks, Sam Presti from the Thunder, or Eric Spolster from the Heat. Is Eric Spolster currently the best head coach in the NBA?
Dan Patrick
If Rick Carlisle had won the title, then it'd be Rick Carlisle.
Marvin
You could put Joe Missoula probably up there. He might be. He's got to be top three best coaches, right?
Dan Patrick
I don't think he's considered top three great coaches.
Marvin
You don't think.
Dan Patrick
No, I think. I think the experts or, you know, those who cover the sport. The jury's still out on how great a coach Joe is. Great roster. I think they're probably still okay. Yeah. Yeah. Paul.
Paulie
I think if Madoka from Houston was a free agent, he'd be scalding hot right now.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
The past has been somewhat cleaned up, and all he does is raise up.
Dan Patrick
Teams, and we still don't know about that past. One of the great mysteries there.
Gilbert Arenas
You guys got to put me in the top five. Give me a couple. Help me out here a little bit.
Dan Patrick
No, thank you. Doc Rivers. Let's see what I want to have. Sam Presti or Eric Spoelstra? I think I'd rather have Sam Presti because I. I want somebody who will get the players, get the environment, to then give it to the coach. Because, you know, the San Antonio spurs were great, but they were great because they had the front office. And R.C. buford did a wonderful job in getting those players for Greg Popovich. Now, he knew what to do when he got him. You got to have somebody who gets those players. Like Jerry west was really good at getting players, and then you can give them to your coach, and then all of a sudden you can win championships, but you got to get the players. Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
Tod different sport, but after what Theo.
Gilbert Arenas
Epstein did with the Cubs and the Red Sox, it makes you want to grab some kind of genius front office person ahead of, like, anything else.
Dan Patrick
Zach and Knoxville. Hi, Zach. What's on your mind today?
Ryan Seacrest
Adp. Thanks for taking my call. Perfect segue into shifting the blame. I wanted to get your thoughts on. Tracy McGrady was on first take on Friday, and he said that if he was in Kobe's position with Shaq, then he would have won titles. And he said that he was. He never had the chance, and it's not my fault. And that if he would have been in the playoffs, he would have shown what he could do. And I. I thought that he was in the playoffs and that he did play in the NBA. So do you think talk like that diminishes his legacy? Because Charles Barkley just says he didn't get it done, plain and simple.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I'd have to hear the context of what Tracy McGrady is saying. That, yeah, if you're playing with Shaq, yeah, you'll probably have a better chance of winning a title than the supporting cast or the players that he played with. But ultimately, you know, it's on you. You can place blame, but still, you're Tracy McGrady. You're a great player. You should be Playing for titles. Gilbert Arenas was on first take at fanatics Fest and had this to say on Kobe Bryant being treated like a sidekick in real time.
Gilbert Arenas
Kobe had three rings, y' all. Wasn't treating him like a three ring player. You're treating him like a sidekick. He was considered a sidekick. He was considered a robin. He was considered the next Pippin. In 2002 with 3 rings, we were still comparing TMA who was better in the league. You couldn't convince the NBA down the middle who is better. So if you're. If you're. If you're sitting there with three rings and you're still being compared to someone who doesn't have rings, what do you think happened? You only respect the driver of the car. No one respects the passenger of rings.
Dan Patrick
Well, that's, you know, due in large part due to Jack. I mean, he was so, you know, omnipresent and. Yeah, dude, you know, it's. Do I think Kobe got the Scottie Pippen treatment? Yeah, at times, yes. And he had a terrible debut in the postseason against Utah and missing shots and, you know, but you could still see that there. There was so much talent there. But then I think Kobe got on Shaq's level, and that. That created some of the friction because once Shaq is the star and Kobe is, all right, you're my little buddy. And then all of a sudden, little buddy gets up there with Shaq, and then that created tension. Yes. Mark.
Gilbert Arenas
I think the biggest difference is when we talk about the three Pete Lakers, we don't ever say Shaq's Lakers. We say Shaq and Kobe's Lakers. Yeah, we've said Jordan's Bulls. We've said Magic's Lakers or Bird Celtics. We never mentioned just Shaq. We always mention Shaq and Kobe when talking about those three p. Lakers teams.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, and rightfully so.
Gilbert Arenas
Right, Right.
Dan Patrick
So, yeah, aside, I don't see him. I never saw him as a sidekick. I think Shaq may have looked at him that way or treated him that way to start, but then all of a sudden, you saw what Kobe was doing, and you're like, he can hold his own against anybody. He's as close to Jordan as we'll ever see.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, I went back and looked at the Lakers 3 Pete 25 years ago, the first series, Kobe was 21. He averaged 21 points per game. But then the next year, he averaged 30 points per game. The entire playoffs. He stepped up quickly.
Dan Patrick

More phone calls coming up, as we always do every Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. He is the co host of Gill's Arena Podcast and he is doing some great things with that Gill's Arena Podcast and, well, it's available on Spotify, Apple, wherever you get your podcast and you can stream it Monday through Thursday on YouTube. Good to see you again. Let me start with 10 years from now. We'll remember these NBA Finals for what?
Gilbert Arenas
Nothing.
Dan Patrick
Nothing.
Gilbert Arenas
Nothing. No. Let's just be honest. When it comes to small market teams, we, we really don't remember much about them. We don't really talk about the Toronto championship. We don't really talk about the Bucs Giannis championship. And with this one, I mean the only memorable thing was Halle game winner, game one. Other than that, there was nothing in this finals that makes you say, oh my God, this was the great finals. And let's put it up there with the top 10 of all time. It's not, they didn't have none of those moments.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mentioned Halliburton. 10 years from now we'll remember him. But it's because of the postseason run, Game one and then blowing out his Achilles. So I think if we just say his name, I think we'll, we'll remember that 10 years from now I think.
Gilbert Arenas
He'Ll be more remembered for the Eastern Conference finals, what he did to the New York Knicks because that was, that was a big series. That was like one of those series because it was New York and all the exposure on it and he showed up. I think he will be more remembered for that series than really? What happened in the Finals?
Dan Patrick
You talked to a couple of guys who have blown out their Achilles, and they had. There was a commonality to that of you have a calf injury. So you talked to Tatum and Dame Lillard, and then you see Halliburton. We shouldn't be surprised that this happened.
Gilbert Arenas
No, no, we should not. You know, I think we all thought about it. I think Kendrick Perkins mentioned that he shouldn't play in game six because of what has happened in the past. I don't remember ever when calf strains turned into Achilles tears from the past. So I wanted to ask, like, do you have any symptoms? Were there any symptoms? They both said, yeah, my. My calf was, you know, hurting. So we all knew he had a calf strain. We all threw it out there that this could happen. But to see it happen is another thing. And, you know, it's just sad that this happened in the Finals and him trying to fight back and help his team win.
Dan Patrick
But is this just a coincidence? With calf injuries leading to torn Achilles.
Gilbert Arenas
With kd, we could have said yes, but three people in just this year alone. Right. You know, where it's. It's pointed out that, hey, hold on. These strains are turning into, you know, Achilles hairs. So I think now when someone has a calf strain, they should really treat it double. Double treatment. Now, like, so if it was, you know, two to three weeks, let's start doing five to six, just in case, because we can see that it's. It's costing you nine to 12 months.
Dan Patrick
Well, a former player told me when he saw that he had a calf injury, he said, during the regular season, he's sitting out like he's going to be out for at least a week with that. He's trying to come back. He's, you know, it's the NBA Finals. You don't want to be on the bench. You want to try to help your team. And unfortunately, this season ends that way. The other option that we had of what do we remember 10 years from now during the NBA Finals? Could be Kevin Durant got traded during the NBA Finals to the Rockets.
Gilbert Arenas
No, true, true. That was a big trade. We didn't think that that was gonna happen that soon. I don't even remember trades happening during the NBA Finals. This is. This is new.
Dan Patrick
No, the commissioner, Commissioner Stern, he had an edict. No news. Don't be hiring somebody. Don't be firing somebody. No trades. Let the NBA Finals stand alone. That's what was surprising about this, that you had what happened with the Lakers sale, and then you had KD being traded during the NBA Finals and a bit, man.
Gilbert Arenas
And in Memphis.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Gilbert Arenas
Let's. Let's just be honest. It was probably the most exciting stuff during the Finals, you know, and I know, you know, when we talk about small markets, it's needed because there are, you know, cities that need Finals, they need recognition. But, you know, when you do have, you know, teams like that that match up this, the, the sales is down, the marketing is down, the views is down. It's clocked through history. So, you know, any kind of exposure that has to do with the NBA is needed, no matter if you like it or not.
Dan Patrick
And Durant going to Houston. We're talking to Gilbert Arenas, his podcast, Gills Arena. You have Durant going there and he's going to be, what, 37? I know he's not a guy who, you know, needs to jump. Be fast, be quick. Like he's a guy who picks his, gets his spots and then he's going to score. I don't know what, like, what does he add to Houston that you can count on and, and are they a true title contender?
Gilbert Arenas
What you do add is guaranteed 20 to 25. You can just, you know, staple that in. So he's going to give them consistency on, you know, getting buckets when they need it. The only concern I will have is, is the rest of the group mature enough to help him win? See, I think that's usually what we miss here with Kevin Durant. He's an A student now. The people around him that he has to do these group projects with, they're not A students with him.
Paulie
Right.
Gilbert Arenas
When he went to Golden State. A students, honor students. We've seen what happened when he went to, you know, Brooklyn and everybody wasn't, you know, doing. Turning in the assignments. Same thing in the Suns. Everybody wasn't turning their assignments. But he's getting blamed for the group project when his part of the assignment is an A. Now we, this is what is everyone going to bring an A type performance for them to be successful. And I don't think they're ready for that yet. Their games are not mature. Sangun still thinks he's Jokic. When you're sengun, you guys have different games, but you have to understand what you're good at. Stop trying to be, you know, yokish. So he's still having. Trying to figure out what his game is. Same thing with Amen. Amen's trying to figure out what is he. We know you're a freak of nature. We know you are a Two way player, but you really have to carve out your identity. So with so many pieces, trying to figure out who they are, I don't know if they're going to be a real contender, but they do have Cameron Durant and you have a great coach. Everybody else has roles that they, they, they accept. So it could work.
Dan Patrick
Phoenix Suns are a mess. Yeah, a mess.
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah. I mean, it's, it starts from the head, right? When you're talking about not Kevin Durant, we're talking about the owner. Right. Even though he has a basketball background, went to Michigan State. Do you know what it takes to, to, to put a winning team together? That goes from personalities, that goes from basketball style, that goes from coaching, that goes from GMs. What are they looking at? What's their eye? Right. You have to have an eye for talent and how it works together. Like just playing in the game and looking at those three, I'm saying, oh, you need to be in a triangle or you need to be in the Princeton offense, because the offense is not made for your superstar, is made for the team. So the team can move around and get little buckets here and there to keep them excited, to keep the defense honest. But when you have a stationary offense where your three main guys have the ball, everyone sits in the corner. I don't have to guard the corner guys, so that means I'm just going to guard. Guard Kevin Durant and Beal and we're just gonna load up and that's what the triangle was made for. Yeah, we got Jordan, Kobe and Shaq, but we're gonna make you guard BJ Armstrong, Steve Kerr, because we're going to move them off screens. And if you don't play it correctly, here's going to be a layup, here's going to be a jump shot. And that's what they didn't do in Suns.
Dan Patrick
What, what was your thought or thoughts on LeBron where he said, you know, that we're obsessed with chasing rings, the media is obsessed with players chasing rings.
Gilbert Arenas
He's right. Right. It was the same thing Michael Jordan said, you know, he said the same exact thing. He said, you know, Bill Russell got 11, but does that make him better than me? Right. I got six. Does that make me better than him? Because obviously there's more to just a ring and talent. You can be talented and not win a ring. You can be horrible and win a ring because you got a great cast around you. So what they're saying is correct. And it goes by the top 75 list. Right? The top 75 list that was put in, voted in, and then they voted in order. That lets you know rings doesn't necessarily matter because you have Scottie Pippen with six rings, six All NBA or seven All NBAs, seven All Stars, 10 defensive awards, but he's sitting at 32. 31 is Allen Iverson, no rings. So you're telling me six rings is getting beat out by what, four scoring titles in MVP. Then you got Chris Paul sitting at 29. Then you got Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley. Not none of them got rings, but they're all in front of Scottie pippen. Then at 75, you have dame litter. Right? 6 all, 6 all stars at the time. 6 all NBAs. Klay Thompson doesn't make it in. He has 3 all 3 championships, 2 all, 25 all stars, 2o NBAs. So he. His resume is not better with the Rick. So it's showing you that rings don't matter. Your individual talent matters first. Then the rings kind of help you over the top. But the media has pushed rings as the cake instead of just the cherry on top.
Dan Patrick
Would you rather have Scottie Pippen's career or Allen Iverson's?
Gilbert Arenas
History says Allen Iverson, he's going to be remembered more because his background says he was a top player in the NBA. He was an MVP. Remember, all MVPs. One, you're the best player if you're a scoring champ, says your top five. I don't know how many scoring champs in the NBA went to second team, all NBA. Usually their first team, all NBA. So it kind of says who he was in the NBA. Right. You know, the average fan is going to say, yeah, I'm gonna take the six rings. I'm gonna be a champ. But we're looking at Scottie Pippen, and we've seen how Scotty Pippen has been treated with six rings. He's not treated like Michael Jordan. Right. So when you say my legacy, the legacy for you personally, yeah, six rings, but the legacy for everyone. When you walk in public, are you respected? If you say Scottie Pippen and Allen Iverson, everybody runs to Allen Iverson because they remember he was iconic at what he did. I mean, as a basketball player, we're taught we want to be a champion. We get reality once our career's done and we're sitting there, six rings, trying to get, you know, these business deals done. And everybody's like, yeah, you're not Michael Jordan. And you're like. And you know, that's. It's the Sad truth. I. I just do the research and then say what I found. You know, they. They can disagree, and then I can say, well, here's all the facts. Do you. Do you not like the facts? There's a reason Kobe's at 10. There's a reason Kobe with three rings put Shaq away. Because when he had the three rings, and we're saying. He's saying, hey, I'm Michael Jordan, they're like, yeah, well, Shaq is carrying you. And he's like, wait, what? No, wait, wait. Hold on. No, no, no. You told me that I'm the next thing to Michael Jordan. Why are you not treating me like that? So now as well. I need to get rid of him to show who I am when it. That's why his fourth and fifth ring, to him is the most special one. They're the sweetest ones. You see, the reality of it is we're.
Dan Patrick
We're.
Gilbert Arenas
We're finding out in real time. We're told championships is everything when we're getting them and we're not being recognized form. That's when reality kicks in.
Dan Patrick
But do you think that Kobe is the one who initiated this? I mean, there was friction with him and Shaq. First of all, Shaq had his little brother. Then all of a sudden, little brother is getting 30. And then all of a sudden, things change. That, yes, we did win. I, you know, had an equal hand in this. But then did it get to the point where both their egos or maybe Kobe's ego, to say, I got to prove that I can win without Shaq, and.
Gilbert Arenas
And that's. And that's. That's exactly what it is. You're winning. He's getting all the credit, and he's like, wait, I. I average 32. I did my part. Why I'm not getting the equal love, right? So when. When we talk about champions and.
Ryan Seacrest
You'Re.
Gilbert Arenas
Giving option one all the love, while option two is like, I did just as much damage. Kyrie, Same thing.
Dan Patrick
Hey, hold on.
Gilbert Arenas
I hit the game winner. I hit the game winner, didn't it? And. And LeBron is getting all the credit. So he's like, well, I need to. I need to go and show people I can do this by myself, too. That's what ends up happening. That's where the egos come from. The egos come from. I'm watching the guy get all the love, and I'm waiting next, and I'm hearing all the people, and everybody's going, getting all autographs, and they're like, hey, Robin, you did great. And he's like, robin. No, no, no, no. I'm like. I'm like a Batman, too. I'm like, a little. Like, I'm 1B. I'm 1B. Give me the. They don't get it. And that's where the ego plays a part.
Dan Patrick
How many titles, if Shaq and Kobe stay together, do you think they win?
Gilbert Arenas
I talk to players on the team because I'm a big, big Kobe fan. Even though people don't think, like, every. My whole life was revolves around it. Tattoos, la, Kobe, everything.
Dan Patrick
Wait, you got Kobe tattoos?
Gilbert Arenas
I got number. I got a 24 tatted after he won his championship by himself. Right. I got it. Got it right on my leg. 24 tatted. Right? Because as a Kobe fan, when they say you couldn't win one without Shaq, we. It's like you proved everybody wrong. Yes. That's. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Wait, wait, wait. You're in the league with Kobe?
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And you got a tattoo of Kobe?
Gilbert Arenas
Yes.
Dan Patrick
What did he say when he saw.
Gilbert Arenas
He never. No, he's never seen it before.
Dan Patrick
Did he know you had it?
Gilbert Arenas
Yes. Like, people don't know. Like, people don't know. Like, I played. I played in the olympics or the 2006 fever games. I wore number 10. I wore number 10 because I had a conversation with Kobe. If you ever played in the game, what number would you wear? And he said, I'm wearing number 10 because there's one more than Jordan's nine. Okay. So when I got the team, I wore 10. And then when I didn't make the team and he played, he wore 10. But I did that for. I did that for that. So I'm Kobe always.
Dan Patrick
It's kind of stalkerish here. Oh, for sure.
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no.
Dan Patrick
Do you have any other players on your body?
Gilbert Arenas
No, just. Just cope.
Dan Patrick
Just Kobe.
Gilbert Arenas
No, no. Oh, no, no. Penny Hardaway. College. So those are my two favorite Penny Hardaway.
Dan Patrick
Wait, so when I.
Gilbert Arenas
When I went to Orlando. When I went to Orlando, I wore number one. I wear number one also. So I have penny 25 on my leg. So I wore penny 25 in high school because of Penny.
Dan Patrick
Memphis Jeff shorts on.
Gilbert Arenas
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Show me the Kobe one.
Gilbert Arenas
All right. See, I don't know if you can see. So. So.
Ryan Seacrest
Whoa.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Wow. You got.
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
You got Kobe close to your heart there.
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah, yeah. So 25. So 24 is right here. And it's. And it's. It's. It's. Blessed with skills.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah, I know. But I think they would have won If Shaq. So this is what was said. If Shaq was still the leader and the head of the snake on a 2002, 2003 team, we would have won that fourth championship. We would have won a fourth. But that's where the argument where he got coined the Batman. And then Shaq got hurt, missed the first 12 games of that season, and Kobe put the crown on. And that's where the fighting started because Phil couldn't get it from him, right? He was like, I'm not taking a back seat anymore. And so they would have won that championship if Shaq was still the lead dog. They. They think. And then obviously the Carl Malone them, they could have won that one. But I think they would have probably had at that time, all the way probably to 2006 or that 2006 season, they could have still managed, just add a couple pieces. Then Shaq would have probably started declining right there and then just, you know, added someone else. I think they could have.
Dan Patrick
What do you say to your wife or what does your wife say to you when she realizes you have Kobe's tattoo on?
Gilbert Arenas
As I Mom is my fandom. It's my. It's my fandom. I'm a fan. Like, I'm one of those. Like, if I wasn't an NBA player, I would be a season ticket holder with the paint on. On sitting there.
Dan Patrick
That crazy.
Gilbert Arenas
That crazy guy that's outside asking for autograph. That will be me. Like, I was a fan first. And I used to say when I played, like, I'm an NBA player, but I'm a fan first. So I got. That's where I got all the autographs. If you look at my room, right, I got the OKCs on one side and then Indiana's one on the other side, right? I'm rooting for both, right? But I'm a Laker. I'm a Laker at heart.
Dan Patrick
But I now know why you didn't show Kobe. Given the location of that tattoo on your inner thigh, you don't say, hey, Kobe, come here, I want to show you something.
Gilbert Arenas
Yeah, you know, it's. It looks a little weirdish, right? You know, like, why would you put it down there? Like, well, I'm. I'm covered everywhere else, you know.
Dan Patrick

Gilbert Arenas is a lot of fun. I love the enthusiasm that he has and you know that he loves the game and he knows the game as well. It's not just an opinion, it's an informed opinion. It's not. Or a hot take. It's an opinion, but it's, it's backed with research and I love that. Yes, I love too that this is.
Marvin
The second guest we've had on in, in a week or so who spoke about while they were playing being huge fans of the guys they were playing against.
Dan Patrick
Jeff Teague was with us.
Marvin
I think we just had him on Shumpert talking too about how he was like, oh no, like I love these guys. I'm a huge fan of this guy. That's why I would study him so much because I'm a massive fan of so and so and then they would play against each other. I love that, that sort of, you know, being able to be competitive while also still just like in awe.
Dan Patrick
How about we go around the room Best and Worst of the Weekend Todd, I'll start with you my Best of the weekend.
Ryan Seacrest
Although 23 year old rookie Jacob Mizaroski of the brewers lost his bid for a perfect game in the seventh inning.
Dan Patrick
Against the Twins Friday night.
Ryan Seacrest
Started his major league career with 11 innings. First started to do that since 1900. More wins than hits allowed in his first two career starts. And that supposedly has never happened, at least not since 1900. Worst of the weekend they did win.
Dan Patrick
On Sunday, and not to pile on.
Ryan Seacrest
But the Rockies 53 loss to the D back Saturday gave them loss number 60 of the season, falling to 17 and 67 and 29 at home. 29 and a half games back in your NL West.
Dan Patrick
See no counter.
Marvin
My best of the weekend is Rick Carlisle. You can't come away from that loss like that in the finals looking much better than I think the way he does now. I think he hit everything sort of on point throughout the series. My other best is the Mets too, and seven solo home runs in one game. That's kind of fun.
Dan Patrick
Marvin Best and Worst Best of the.
Gilbert Arenas
Weekend Rafael Devers hitting his first home run as a Giant against the Red Sox. That is correct and then my worst of the weekend, the pacers in the third quarter getting outscored by 14 with eight turnovers. That was the difference in the game for me.
Dan Patrick
Paul Best and worst, Shohei Ohtani, pitching.
Paulie
Again and pitching well. There was a point maybe a year ago where I thought he may never pitch again out of safety or injury. And it looks like it's going the right direction. Just a special time to be around to see this unique player that's once in a lifetime. The other is Cal Raleigh, the catcher for the Seattle Mariners. This guy's had a nice career, power hitter, not exactly a numbers guy. Batting average, he is hitting.276 this year in 75 games. He's got 31 home runs. And it's, he's really entertaining. Good guy, good coverage out there.
Dan Patrick
He's the second catcher in baseball history to hit at least 30 home runs in three or more consecutive seasons. Mike Piazza did that eight consecutive seasons. Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America and Pandora. Speaking of which, Pandora from Nevada joining us. Hi, Pandora.

Gilbert Arenas
Is Adam Silver the white doppelganger of Tony Dungy or not?
Dan Patrick
I'd have to, I'd have to study that a little more, Pandora, but give that, give that some thought there.
Marvin
Yes, I do kind of love the idea that while Pandora's working on the honey and off on the ranch, these are the things that are sort of occupying. Yeah, it's kind of a white Tony Dungy.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Pandora sent us some gifts, sent us a picture and sweatshirt, got some honey, some salsa. We got it. We got it all. All going on. Thank you, Pandora. Final hour on the way. Chris Mannix will join us from Oklahoma City, get his thoughts on the finals. And what is up with Giannis staying in Milwaukee.

Introduction In the second hour of "The Dan Patrick Show," hosted by iHeartPodcasts and the Dan Patrick Podcast Network, Dan Patrick welcomes former NBA star Gilbert Arenas as his special guest. The episode delves deep into the recent NBA Finals, player injuries, team dynamics, and the ever-evolving landscape of professional basketball. Throughout the discussion, Patrick and Arenas engage in insightful analysis, peppered with humor and personal anecdotes, providing listeners with a comprehensive overview of the current state of the NBA.
NBA Finals Overview and MVP Odds The conversation kicks off with Dan Patrick sharing the latest NBA title odds from DraftKings, highlighting the Oklahoma City Thunder as the favorites to win the next season's title, followed by the Houston Rockets. Patrick breaks down the odds, emphasizing the shift from the Rockets' previous +1200 to +750, largely influenced by Tyrese Halliburton's injury.
Notable Quote:
Dan Patrick [04:42]: "It's going to be hard for SGA to win the MVP again next year. It just is. So he's going to have the same stats..."
Injury Impact: Tyrese Halliburton’s Achilles Tear A significant portion of the discussion centers around Tyrese Halliburton's Achilles injury during the NBA Finals. Arenas and Patrick explore the implications of such injuries on a player's career and the team's championship aspirations. They draw parallels with past injuries suffered by prominent players like Kevin Durant and discuss the importance of proper injury management to prevent long-term repercussions.
Notable Quote:
Dan Patrick [08:16]: "I think 10 years from now, Tyrese Halliburton, just with everything that happened... you'll remember that he blew out his Achilles."
Team Dynamics and Trades The episode delves into the surprising trade of Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets during the NBA Finals—a move unprecedented in NBA history. Arenas questions the maturity and readiness of the Rockets' roster to capitalize on Durant's addition, contemplating whether they can genuinely contend for a title despite the infusion of talent.
Notable Quote:
Gilbert Arenas [30:00]: "What you do add is guaranteed 20 to 25. You can just... he's going to give them consistency on getting buckets when they need it."
Legacy of Championships vs. Individual Talent Arenas and Patrick engage in a thought-provoking debate about the value of championships versus individual accolades. They discuss how players like Scottie Pippen and Allen Iverson are remembered, despite differing numbers of championship rings, highlighting the NBA's current emphasis on individual achievements over team success.
Notable Quote:
Gilbert Arenas [35:15]: "History says Allen Iverson, he's going to be remembered more because his background says he was a top player in the NBA. He was an MVP."
Kobe Bryant’s Legacy and Team Friction The conversation shifts to Kobe Bryant's career, particularly the tension between Kobe and Shaquille O'Neal during their time with the Los Angeles Lakers. Arenas shares personal anecdotes, including his own admiration for Kobe, and discusses how their professional relationship impacted the team's dynamics and championship outcomes.
Notable Quote:
Gilbert Arenas [38:03]: "And then when we talk about champions... you're giving option one all the love, while option two is like, I did just as much damage."
Personal Insights and Tributes Towards the end of the episode, Arenas reveals personal tributes to Kobe Bryant, including tattoos honoring the late superstar. He shares stories of how Kobe influenced his career choices and his deep respect for Kobe's legacy in the NBA.
Notable Quote:
