The Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Hour 2 on this Wednesday. Dan and the Dan Edge. Dan Patrick Show Shooting your shot. Ryan Rossillo will join us. Story came out that he tried to shoot a shot with Meghan Markle. This was at the DirecTV Beach bowl in New York City many, many, many years ago when she was on the show. Suits and Ryan Rossillo from the Ryan Rossillo Podcast works with Bill Simmons. He thought that she was obtainable and we'll talk to him about that experience. Albert Breer on Bill Belichick and North Carolina Chapel. Bill, is it going to happen? 8773 DP show email address dp dan patrick.com Twitter handle DP Show a little bit later on we play smart or soft. Also, the number one recruit in high school basketball is going to byu. Excuse me. Huh. Saw that news yesterday. And I go, wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on. This is the number one recruit for next season is going to byu. And I go, I'll be damned. Danny Ainge got them to spend some money. Probably going to cost, I don't know. Did you see the numbers? Is it like $7 million for this kid? What's his name? Marvin? DJ AJ DeBonsa.
Dan Patrick
AJ DeBonsa.
Paul Pabst
Oh, okay. Thank you, Paul. So he's from. He played in Massachusetts, then went to Napa, and now he's going to go to Salt Lake City and play at byu.
Dan Patrick
Because when you think of college basketball. Yeah, byu, the Blue Bloods.
Paul Pabst
Wow, that one surprised me. But there you go with nil. That's where you say, all right, do you guys want to be a big time program? We can do this. We can spend the money. It's all above board. We can spend the money, we can go out, get the number one player in America and he was recruited by everybody and all of a sudden you go, he's going to where? Byu? Yes.
Ryan Rossillo
There's got to be more of a reason than just money that he went there. Surely all of these other schools that were going after him were also offering him substantial, a substantial amount of money.
Paul Pabst
I didn't see anything. I saw the article, but I didn't see anything that said he has ties to the university. A former coach goes there, former player, teammates. But I think he's getting $7 million.
Ryan Rossillo
If your ultimate goal, Right. The quote is a lot stood out on my visit. Obviously, Coach Kevin Young there. My ultimate goal is to get to the NBA.
Paul Pabst
Okay.
Ryan Rossillo
There has to be more than, well, whoever's going to offer me the most money right now, that's where I'm going to go. Right.
Paul Pabst
I don't think you can say whatever place gets me to the end is going to get me to the NBA. There's a lot of places where he could get to the NBA. I don't know if it matters where he plays about as far as getting to the NBA. If he's that good, you're the number one recruit. You're probably getting to the NBA.
Ryan Rossillo
When Kevin Young, he coached Kevin Durant. So according to AJ that was a big part of why he chose theirs. Because that's my favorite player is Kevin Durant, and this was Kevin Durant's coach. So I'm going there.
Paul Pabst
Good. Okay. I'll go there and play for this guy who developed Kevin Durant. But I'd also like $7 million.
Ryan Rossillo
I mean, I might as well. Yeah, I mean, are we playing the.
Paul Pabst
Game here or not?
Ryan Rossillo
Because, hey, coach, if you could find many millions. Yeah, I'll go learn unto you.
Paul Pabst
Sure. Yeah, I'd like to play for you. You developed Kevin Durant, but I'd also like $7 million. Yes, yes, Marvin.
Dan Patrick
I would have had 50 guesses before I got to BYU or where AJ was going.
Paul Pabst
All righty. Poll question for hour two is going to be what seat? No, Connor.
Ryan Rossillo
Let's see. We just put up there the poll question from hour one. Actually, the main thing college football needs to work on. That's funny. The main thing college football needs to work on is the timing of the transfer portal. NIL is a recruiting tool. Scheduling or conference alignment. There's almost a tie between timing of the portal and NIL as a recruiting tool. Then in a close third place, though, is conference alignment.
Paul Pabst
Okay. If you're going to get this number one recruit, at what point does $7 million come up? Hey, I'm going to go to BYU. That coach, he coached Kevin Durant. And then you go there, and then now you can say, hey, and we're going to pay you $7 million. We're being silly. Like the semantics with this of. That's the first thing I want to know. How much are you paying? If I'm in it for the money and I'm one and done, how much you paying me? Not I want to play at byu because that coach. Oh, you're willing to pay me too? Like this is silly. Yes.
Todd Fritz
Paulie, a little more on this. He's playing his final year of high school basketball at Utah Prep in Hurricane Utah. It's a small city. Small town in southern Utah.
Paul Pabst
So he's been in Massachusetts, Napa, and now going to Salt Lake. Playing there his final year. High school basketball. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Does anyone play public high school basketball?
Paul Pabst
I don't think so. I mean, I don't know, you know, if Napa is a real hotbed for basketball there.
Todd Fritz
But the players whine a lot.
Paul Pabst
Oh, Napa one. Nice. Paulie. Crushed you on that one, Todd three.
Ryan Rossillo
Right in your face.
Paul Pabst
Swivel to you were. You were asleep at the wheel there. In your face. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app and our radio affiliates around the country. All right, so BYU gets the best high school player in the country, of course. And there's a situation that is going on. Well, I think they're trying to make it a situation. And it has to do with planting the flag. So Paulie goes, is this smart or soft? That there is proposed legislation in Ohio to prevent teams from planting the flag? Yes, Paul.
Todd Fritz
A state rep named John Williams of Sylvana Township. You know that, Dan. Sylvania Township, yes. Okay. The Ohio Sportsmanship Act. It was proposed on Tuesday. It would make it a felony. Felony for anyone who plants a flag at midfield at Ohio Stadium. I don't know if this is for all colleges or just specifically to Ohio Stadium. We're checking on that in the language. No person shall plant a flagpole with a flag attached to it in the center of the football field at Ohio Stadium of the Ohio State University on the day of a college football competition, whether before, during or after the competition. Whoever violates the stand is guilty of a fifth degree felony, which is pretty low on the felony depth chart. Smart or soft?
Paul Pabst
Soft. Soft.
Ryan Rossillo
You gotta go get your mommy to yell at us, too.
Todd Fritz
That's a bill. New bill. Mommy yells at you.
Ryan Rossillo
Punishingly soft.
Paul Pabst
Like, is somebody going to go to jail? And, you know, you go around the room, what are you in for? I meant for breaking and entering, assault, planning a flag. Oh, my God.
Todd Fritz
Don't be my roommate.
Ryan Rossillo
The question should be, which is softer, this law or when the Big 12 wouldn't allow you to do a horns down because it made Texas fans upset.
Todd Fritz
Hey, that's disrespectful to our Herod.
Paul Pabst
What are you doing?
Ryan Rossillo
You can't do that.
Paul Pabst
You're hurting Matthew McConaughey's feelings.
Ryan Rossillo
That is bad sportsmanship and I don't like it. That was unbelievably soft.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Todd Fritz
Paul, When Michigan football fans wake up this morning and see this story, they're going to dine out on it just as much as the victory. Okay? Politicians usually use situations like this to pander to the local fan base. I don't think that Ohio State football fans around the state want this because it makes them look bad and they're not doing it. It's one singular politician.
Paul Pabst
Well, first of all, it's never going to get passed this late in the year. It's not getting passed.
Todd Fritz
Silly filibuster.
Paul Pabst
This is grandstanding. I'm going to read you something here. I got a hold of this. This is from the Mid American Conference commissioner John Steinbrecher. Now he sent this to the NCAA president Charlie Baker. I'm going to read a portion of this season's greetings from the Mid American Conference. The past few weeks have displayed what can only be described as abysmal behavior on the basketball court and football field. The term poor sportsmanship does not capture the lack of decorum exhibited by coaches, student athletes and fans. A portion of the behavior in a non sports contest could be considered criminal with regards to some of the coaching behavior. I suggest that if a member of the faculty behaved in a similar fashion in the classroom or directed such vitriol at a student or another professor, the individual would be facing dismissal. Perhaps this is a symptom of where society is today in your face. A lack of respect for norms and traditions and increasing pressure to succeed with ever growing scrutiny. Let's face it, the behavioral train wreck we have witnessed is probably great for television ratings, talk show fodder, social media intrigue. However, none of this is acceptable to an activity connected to academia. Now the commissioner for the Mid American Conference goes on to say, do we really need to contemplate the creation of a rule expressly prohibiting planting a flag on the opposing team's field? Now he goes on to say, if so, we have reached a tipping point requiring a reset before someone gets hurt, given pepper spray was recently used. He goes on to say, from my seat, this is not about establishing new rules, but in clarifying and redefining individual and collective expectations for the conduct of intercollegiate athletics competition and holding ourselves accountable. He closes up his email to the President of the NCAA by saying, there are numerous issues on the plate right now. Nil transfers, status of scholar athletes, proposed house settlement, and the list goes on. As demonstrated by our actions, sportsmanship and ethical conduct need to be among the urgent issues addressed. The time has come to expect more from us instead of tolerating less. I hope we do not let this moment pass by. That's the commissioner, the Mid American Conference, John Steinbrecher, who's saying, who's running the show here and that's why he's sending it to the ncaa. But the NCAA is not running the show here. And yes, when we're Actually discussing or we need to impose a law to stop flag planting. If I'm the coach and I don't want this to happen, it doesn't happen. That's all. That's all. What do you expect from your kids? What do you expect from your fans? To me, it starts with the coach. Sharon Moore has no problem with the flag planting. I think he said, hey, I have no problem with it until Ohio State does it at Michigan. And then you'll probably have a problem with it. Now you can say, well, Texas did it to Michigan, all right, they seem to be okay with it. Ohio State wasn't. But we need to have a bill passed. Aren't there other things to worry about? You run down the list of things where you go, hey, we got to address this and this, this. And don't forget about flag planting. What if somebody wants to just plant a plant or a tree? You know, like, where do we stop? You bring out a shovel and you start digging up and you put a tree in there. Yes.
Ryan Rossillo
For politicians, there is nothing else to worry about other than getting reelected. It's literally the only thing that matters. So this dude, if they tell him to go plant a flag somewhere else, he'll be like, okay, yeah, then I'll go be the flag plant guy. I think this is going to get me some votes. Other than that, dude doesn't care about nothing.
Paul Pabst
But that's what this is.
Ryan Rossillo
That's all it is.
Paul Pabst
And the timing of it. You can't even get something a bill like this passed. You can't. But it sounds like, you know, hey, I got your back. You know, how about you win the game? Win the game, and you hope that the coaches have some decorum. But, you know, the commissioner of the Mid American Conference does bring up something interesting. It's like, we're tolerating less. We should be asking more. What do we want? You have, you know, people throwing stuff on the football field. What was that Texas game a while ago against Georgia? And they're throwing stuff on the field. Like, that's where the coach gets on the microphone and says, that's not who we are. When Sam Weiss did that when he coached the Bengals. Now he did throw in. You're not in Cleveland. But he's saying to the home fans in Cincinnati, it's not who we are. Mike Shashevsky has done that before. Duke does. Do we need it? Popovich has scolded the San Antonio spurs fans as well. So I think what he's saying is, we need to look at ourselves of how do we want to enjoy these games? Who are we? What do we tolerate? What's important now? Granted, planting a flag seems silly, but what happened after planting the flag was not silly. That's all. It's not. Get off my lawn. Let's get off my field with your flag. Go celebrate. You won one of the biggest upsets of the year. I would walk off the field, I tell all my players, come here, wave goodbye and point at the scoreboard as everybody goes out the tunnel. That's it. Or how about this? This may sound crazy. How about you act like it's no big deal? You know what? How many times have we beaten you in a row? Is this three times? Can't keep track. You don't even have to make it a big deal. You know, this used to be a big deal. It's not anymore. Wait, wait, wait. We're not flag worthy. You're not going to play? No. You're not even flag worthy. No, you're not. All right, so I just wanted to bring that to your attention. Source of mine sent that to me. That. That was sent to the president of the ncaa. All right, take a break. Ryan Russell will join us and also Albert Breer. A little later on we'll talk about the Bill Belichick situation and why other colleges aren't reaching out to Bill Belichick and does this mean his days in the NFL were done? Take a break. Back after this.

He's Ryan Rossillo, host of the Ryan Russillo Podcast. You can check it out on the ringer and Spotify mentioned the story yesterday. It was a great story. And we were there at the beach bowl, the DirecTV Beach bowl in New York. I was doing play by play, if you want to call it that. We were hosting all of these starlets, these beautiful people. Ryan Masilla was in the game and apparently had a moment with Meghan Markle. We'll talk about Shooting your shot there. Coming up in a moment. He also sent us a picture. We have documentation. There was some magic going on there, apparently. We'll get to that coming up in a moment. Ryan, good to have you back on. How are you?
Dan Patrick
Great. I don't know how long it's been on since, or how long it's been since I've been on, but the fact that it's. This is, is a, is a big moment for me, so thank you.
Paul Pabst
Well, I did want to talk to you about NBA stuff. Okay.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paul Pabst
Paulie. Paulie thinks LeBron announces his retirement at the All Star break.
Dan Patrick
No, he'll, like, he'll go through the.
Paul Pabst
End of the season, but he'll announce that the second half of the season. That's his victory lap.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. I think he's going to be really weird around the trade deadline. First. I think he has another one of those in him.
Paul Pabst
Well, it feels like there's this groundswell of, hey, let's help out LeBron get to Golden State. When LeBron created what he has in front of him, including drafting his son, getting AD and everybody else involved, and getting JJ Redick as his coach, why are we all of a sudden like, yeah, you know, LeBron would be nice if he went out with Golden State and Steph Curry.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think his. Both teams are desperate. Like, when you watch the warriors, it was such a great start. And you kind of thought, like, is an NBA team really a title contending team based on just depth? Right. One guy, like, I think you're probably the same way as me is when I think about really special NBA teams in a season with a chance to win a championship, I'm like, who's the second guy that can get you buckets when the other guy can't? And Golden State doesn't really even have that guy. LeBron can score right now, but defensively he's somebody that is attacked. He had this incredible stretch when they were winning all those games. You could talk about it being an easier schedule, but I couldn't believe the effort that he was playing with. And I don't know if he was after that. Just exertion of energy, just having a hard time after the fact. Look, Dan, I actually feel I'm torn all the time with LeBron because he's out on the floor. We talk about the Lakers and we have to factor them as a contender. So I almost feel guilty when I'm critical of the nightly production or the lack of defense, because at the same time, like, the way he has pushed the boundaries of what we think is possible for a basketball player. It's, it's so impressive that I, I get just caught in this circle of what am I supposed to do? But if you're talking about the Lakers right now, they're not good enough.
Paul Pabst
But I don't know if we do this, like Larry Bird wasn't a good defender, like, would we be crushing Larry Bird now at the end of his career by saying, you know, they're going after Larry and you know, he, he hurt. I don't know. It feels like LeBron. It just attracts, you know, detractors like there, there's, it's just, they're looking for negatives with LeBron.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think a lot of that is, is the social media part of it. And I also think that it's a very political thing with Jordan, LeBron. You know, I've yet to see anybody change their mind ever. I've yet to ever see anybody not just sort of push propaganda. And then when I think about like, I saw a comparison the other day between MJ's Last wizard season where I always felt like the, the Jordan wizard seasons were even more of, of an argument for how special he was. Like, if you go back to that, that next year, like the first year he played, he wasn't as good. And in the final year, you know, look like, what did you expect? And now when I'll see people compare, like, well, do you realize that Jordan had this number and LeBron is, I'm like, dude, are you seriously? We're two decades in on this and the 40 year old seasons are the ones that are going to break the tie. So yeah, maybe. I just think LeBron's status and his fame probably leads it to a different level of scrutiny than say a Bird. But it's also just what it is today. I mean, these guys deal with hate in ways that generations have never experienced.
Paul Pabst
Who's the best player in the NBA?
Dan Patrick
Jokic. I don't really think it's, I hate that. You know, I always feel like every good point is ruined by somebody saying, I don't think it's close. But his control of a basketball game is unlike anything I've seen in a long time. And you could, you could throw peak LeBron into that as well. I was out in Denver and I saw him again live. There was a game there. I go to Colorado regularly. There was a night where they were playing the Wizards and I just asked, I was like, can I get a ticket? And I got a Ticket. I was like, well, it's the Wizard. So all I want to do is watch Jokic. I just want to watch him. I'm going to watch him off the ball. I'm going to watch him with the ball. All I want to do is just watch him and his understanding and the way he dissects all of these different things. Things. And what I always love, too, is like, it's a bit like Steph. It's a bit like Nash. Jokic could take 22 shots a game and they'd be good games and they'd be good looks. He was second in the MVP voting the one year he didn't win it to MB and he took 14.7 shots per game. That's special to control a basketball game for the 30 plus minutes that you're out there. And his priority is actually not to try to find a way to get buckets, even though he could every single time. I just, I know Giannis is on a tear right now. He was so impressive last night. But I love the way Jokic. I think this is like, rarefied stuff, and I'm rooting for him to have a second ring in a way. I wouldn't root for a lot of players because I want him to be accepted by. I think what becomes way too simple of a conversation of who the great ones are.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, I agree with you, but I think Denver did him a disservice. They didn't strengthen around him, and I don't think he's going to win a ring unless they get Jimmy Butler or somebody like that. You know, maybe they. That that roster is not threatening. They're kind of an average team, but I don't know if he's. He's putting up incredible numbers that are hard to ignore, even though his team. We like team success to coincide with greatness. And I don't think that he's going to have. His team is going to let him down for another mvp.
Dan Patrick
I hope it's not Butler. You know, if he has a $50 million player option next year, it kind of gets back to your original point. Dan, too, of like, would LeBron like to go to Golden State? It's like, is that a solution or is that desperation? Is the team that wants Jimmy Butler at this stage of his career? Is. Is that a solution to what you're doing, or are you talking about somebody who decides he's going to be a huge problem until he gets the contract extension? Now, his agent had said, hey, I'm going to opt out. Whatever it was Just funny because I was looking at Jimmy Butler's numbers the other day. Jimmy Butler's taking 11 shots a game and he's somehow taking seven and a half free throws a game. So it's, it's kind of working. But if I'm trading for Jimmy at this age, I'm going to need, I'm going to need a few more shot attempts because there's certain nights it looks like where I don't know if he's pacing himself or he's not super interested.
Paul Pabst
What do you think about this proposal? If I asked the commissioner, can we do away with the three point shot for a week in the NBA?
Dan Patrick
I'm open to anything now at this point. Okay. I really love the in season tournament. I think it's a home run. I think Silver and everybody, like I watch games and I feel like it's, it's more intense than maybe you would think this time of year. So that is like a 10 out of 10. The playing thing I didn't love because I think certain years you're going to have teams that won like 36, 37 games in the east and like they get another run at this. You know, I'm upset about some of the college football expansion, but this, the, the event planning is basically what I'm leading here to. I'm, I think this is where all of this stuff is going. I would love a week of this. However, I would ask a lot of old school people like this because I know that you're old school, Dan. I don't mean an age, I mean an education. Do you miss post play? Do you, do you watch games now and be like, you know, I just would love to see a Rick Smith's baseline entry pass right now. Do you miss it?
Paul Pabst
Okay, okay.
Dan Patrick
I don't know if I miss.
Paul Pabst
No, no, hold on, hold on. So you don't miss Akeem Olajuwon in the post?
Dan Patrick
Of course I miss.
Paul Pabst
You don't miss Shaq in the post?
Dan Patrick
I don't know that Shaq in the post was Akeem to me was more entertaining than, than Shaq was Mikhail. All right, fine, like let's go through it all. But I don't, I don't know if I miss two man basketball entry pass on the block. Three guys watching, never moving.
Paul Pabst
Do you miss the mid range jumper, Ryan?
Dan Patrick
No, if I do, I just watch the Phoenix Suns. Yeah.
Paul Pabst
Kevin Durant. Absolutely. You see what I'm saying, demar De Rosen?
Dan Patrick
Because I think you're right, like the three point part of this is Kind of messed it up, right? There are nights where I go, whoa, this isn't. This isn't the best. I can't believe how quick some of the shots are. Some of the threes, I'm like, I get you want to take a lot of threes, but are these good shot decisions? We're even ready for the shot. But I wonder sometimes if we glorify just some. I mean, the Mark Jackson rule, it was like, hey, your post ups take so long, we have to pass the rule.
Paul Pabst
You're too boringly efficient. We must take that out of the game. How about you get a 25 three pointers attempts each game?
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Kind of like a short porch for the men's softball league. Use.
Paul Pabst
Use, you know, sparingly. Save for the fourth quarter. Maybe you could keep it in without it being. There are a lot of teams that shoot threes. There's a lot of teams that shouldn't shoot threes, but that's the. That's the whole math part of this.
Dan Patrick
Would Jordan pool be cut that day?
Paul Pabst
He might be punched again. All right, I build up the suspense, the drama of you. So what year was this that you were trying to hook up with Meghan Markle?
Dan Patrick
Well, I think I was asking her if she had any interest in promoting suits, so there was that.
Paul Pabst
Okay, let's start with the game. Let's start with the game. Because you weren't talking, promoting suits on your radio show at the game, were you?
Dan Patrick
No, no. I got invited to play in the DirecTV flag football thing. You know, I was easily, I think, the least famous person that played in it. But ESPN usually would get somebody to play in the game because DirecTV would want someone on the air to talk about it. I think I asked for five grand, and they said, how about zero, because everybody was getting paid. And then they told me they'd get me tickets to their directv concert for the super bowl party. And then I went to get the tickets. They weren't even there for me, so they snipped me on the tickets, too. So it was. It was bad. It was a bad, bad run for your boy. But Van Pelt and I were doing the show.
Paul Pabst
Okay. First time you meet her, though, so the first time you see her on the. On the. Are you teammates on the beach?
Dan Patrick
We're teammates.
Paul Pabst
Okay.
Dan Patrick
Yep.
Paul Pabst
Blue team. Okay.
Dan Patrick
So there's. Jesse Palmer was my quarterback. We're buddies, so that helped a little bit. And no, I. Look, there was a million swimsuit models from Sports Illustrated. I think Chrissy Teigen was On one of the teams, Serena Williams, although I think she was smart as a world class athlete to not run around on the sand and play flag football. So there was just all these models everywhere and it was also a lot of the athletes, you know. So I was playing defense in the first half, which is a funny story because Joe Montana was our coach and we were, she was playing David somewhere. We get subbed out. We were just kind of bored off to the side and we were just kind of talking about anything because nobody was talking to me. And you know, I don't know, she just was, she was very girl next doorish. And then I went up to Joe Montana and was like, hey, is there any way, because you know how the radio show works. If I go back on Monday with Van Pellet, I don't have a catch, I'm going to get crushed for three hours. So I go to Montana, who I'd met luckily once before, so there was some, it wasn't out of nowhere. Although he didn't love my request. I was like, is there any way I can get like one possession on offense for the radio show? And Montana turns to me and goes, well, you know, we got Ladanian Tomlinson and Tony Gonzalez, two bleeping hall of Famers, Ryan, but let's get you out there for a possession. So I, I finally go to Palmer, I go, just throw me, give me one route and throw me the ball. I make a catch and then I'd come back and you know, we, we'd all high five. And then I ended up catching the game winning touchdown, which I still feel bad about because I like spiked the ball in front of Desmond Howard and he hasn't talked to me in like 10 years. And I don't blame him too because he was like, I was bit too much. And then girls were coming up to high five me and I still was so locked in on the game winning touchdown that I, I just started like marching through everybody, like couldn't, couldn't be phased. So anyway, the game is over, Confetti rains down. And then she and I were like waiting for our cars to bring us back because they had organized all of our transportation and I was like, hey, you know, great meeting you, whatever. And then we followed each other and I, all I did was was ask if she wanted to come on the show with Van Pelt and I to promote suits and she said no. And that's it. I've told the story a couple times, but the funniest part of this whole thing is that years later, you know how, like, Pierce Morgan went on this weird sharing episode of, like, how he thought he was going to date her? Remember that? And he would, he would talk about it. So because Carissa Thompson and Sarah Walsh, who we both worked with at ESPN and are really good friends, they knew the story, they thought it was hilarious that I asked her to come on the TV show or our TV show to promote hers, and she said no, that I ended up seeing these Piers Morgan tweets. And then I would just tweet above his, like, hey, I know you don't believe me, but it does get better. And that was, that was kind of the inside joke. And so I did it a third time, like a year ago, where I was like, I am here for you if you need anything pierced. And he never responded, nor would I expect him to. I get a text from a different coworker who was like, I don't understand your problem here. I think you're fine. Like a real pick me up text. And I'm sitting home and by my. And I read this text and I go, I can't believe Jeff Van Gundy just texted me about a pick me up, kind of boost me up, that it's okay that Markle didn't want to and he didn't know the story, so he actually sort of pierced Morgan. Me or. I don't know how it works.
Paul Pabst
Did you think you had a shot, though? You said you thought she was obtainable.
Dan Patrick
No, I think. Well, that was a live show, so we playing up to the crowd there a little bit. So there could be a semantics debate on that one. I felt like. Because it was like Hannah Davis and Nina Dobrev and Agdal, I think, was the idea I lose track. Yeah, yeah, it was, it was, it was a five star recruiting class. And so because of that and the other athletes, like, we were just off to the side a bunch kind of being like, who are they? And so it was just, you know, who knows? It could have been the start to our story, but I now think, armed with this much information, I'm not sure that I could provide her the life she needed.
Paul Pabst
Okay, if, if I gave you a mulligan, what would you have done differently?
Dan Patrick
Well, you could, you could argue that a hair transplant, but I think the hair is not a priority to her.
Paul Pabst
No. Harry's holding on for dear life.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. So it, I don't, I don't think it's that. I don't know what else I could do. You know, I talked Joe Montana to putting me on Offense, I caught the game winning touchdown. Obviously, the competitive. Maybe I was too competitive.
Paul Pabst
Oh, I think you've been accused of that. And I could see being locked in. I could see that it was very important to you. You just didn't celebrate the way you're supposed to. It should have been, yeah, I've been here before. And then you walk up to her and you say, hey, how about we go celebrate together?
Dan Patrick
With that tone?
Paul Pabst
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Note for note.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dan Patrick
I don't, I don't think that was going to happen. I think she lived in New York City too, so it was like a. It wasn't a huge, A huge.
Paul Pabst
She actually left the country after this because you run. Wow.
Dan Patrick
I didn't think it was going to go there.
Paul Pabst
She went. She went to England to get away from you.
Dan Patrick
Honestly, there's probably somebody from USA Network listeners right now being like, we would have loved to promote suits.
Paul Pabst
Hey, it's made a comeback. It's like crazy, you know, it's like, hey, have you seen suits? I said, yeah. 10 years ago. Does anybody think that Ryan had a shot here? Let me go around the room here. Just all say, no, Paul, he's got his hand up.
Todd Fritz
I think, Ryan, you would have had a decent shot at that time. You're a confident guy and I think you could have played it up in that moment and maybe gotten a dinner.
Dan Patrick
I really don't think so. I don't think so. You know, I'm sure. I think at that point my name was on the show because that was always a tough one. Be like, what do you do? I host a radio show. Where? At espn. What's it called? The Scott Van Pelt Show.
Paul Pabst
Are you Scott Van Pelt? No.
Ryan Rossillo
Why?
Dan Patrick
Does that work?
Paul Pabst
Yes. Wow.
Dan Patrick
Get your drink.
Paul Pabst
Well, keep fighting the good fight. You know, we're proud of you. You took a shot. Kind of.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And look, I mean, I would say now the, the home base is a little bit better of a sell than. Yeah, I have a three bedroom townhouse in West Hartford, but they mow. Hoa. Does a good job with the lawn and the plowing and stuff. And, you know, now we're situated out here in Manhattan Beach. Still three bedroom, but, you know, no hoa.
Paul Pabst
You could have made her happy. She could have been behind you cooking breakfast right now.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, more, you know, I'm not real married to rolls. Maybe I would cook.
Paul Pabst
That'd be nice. Yeah, I'd be interviewing her. But I'm glad you got your name on your show, though.
Dan Patrick
That, that was big. That is big and the touchdown.
Paul Pabst
Thanks for joining us. Thanks for sharing.
Dan Patrick
Hey, you're the only person I do it for. You know how much I like you. I miss all the guys. So thanks, Dan.
Paul Pabst
Thank you, Ryan. That's Ryan Rossillo, host of the Ryan Rossillo Podcast. The ringer in Spotify she was. But see, here's the thing. There were so many beautiful women there that day that she got lost in the shuffle and I didn't even know who she was. So I say to my boss, who is the one who brought the, you know, let me take a break. I'll tell you the backstory of when they were putting these rosters together. We'll come back after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

More phone calls coming up. If you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner. We were just showing the confrontation between Mark Gastineau, formerly of the New York jets, and Brett Favre there at a memorabilia show. And this is a couple of years ago. Mark Gastineau did have the single season Sack record at 22 going into the last game, as the last minute of the last game of the season, Michael strahan was at 21 and a half sacks. So if he sacked Brett Favre, he would have the single season sack record. And Mark Gaston knows at the game, he hugs Strahan. You can see Favre is smiling. And even during the broadcast, the announcers say nobody is happier than Brett Favre, which is weird because Michael Strahan got the sack and Favre said that he kind of ran a bootleg. I don't know if it was scripted, but he ran right towards Michael Strahan. And they even said during the telecast that he got a gift there, which he did. Favre wanted Michael Strahan to have that sack record. Mark Gastineau goes up to Brett Favre and says, I, I want my sack. I want my sack back. Is he wants, he, he wants his record. And Favre is like, you'd probably hurt me like he thinks Gastineau is like, I want to sack you. And then he realizes that's not what Gastono is saying. And you can see Favre is like, hey, you know, and Gastonault, it's breaking his heart. Yeah, because you took that record, that, that's what I was known for. Now TJ Watt got to 22 and a half as well. But with Gastineau, you could tell that he's broken hearted there. And Favre, you know, took a dive for Michael Strahan. So this is a 30 for 30 New York sack exchange, which was the front four for the new York jets, what they were called. And Mark Gastineau is prominently featured in that. But I understand it that this was his identity. And if I look at Mark Gastineau's numbers, it's really hard to find somebody in the modern era when they started keeping sacks who had a better six year run. And he had one of those seasons was a strike shortened season. But in six years he had close to a hundred sacks. So in a six year span with a strike shortened season, second all time number of sacks in a six year window. I don't ever hear his name for the hall of Fame. Now. He was one dimensional. I was around. The jets then did features on Mark Castineau, did a feature on the New York sack exchange member with Marty Cleco, Joe Cleco, Marty Lyons, Abdul Salam and the jets. Maybe Freeman McNeil was there, Ken O'Brien, but he was a big deal. He was a really, really big deal. Had to sack dance. Now I know some of his teammates didn't appreciate him and that it was kind of selfish that hey, you got a sack. This was really about us. But you know, he was dating Brigitte Nielsen, who was once married to Sylvester Stallone. You know, Mark Gastineau was a big time star, but he lost his identity. And you see that he's truly heartbroken all these years later. Truly heartbroken. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Mark is he kind of like Pete Rose where he attached himself to being the top of a certain statistical category where Pete Rose was the hit king and Mark Asino was the sack king. And he feels like you took a lot of money out of my pocket probably also.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, I guess you could make that correlation. One was for a single season, Pete's for the all time record. But you know, the only person who had a better six year span in the modern era was Reggie White. Gastineau had 92 sacks in a six year period. Reggie White had 97. Stat of the day, stat of the Day. That stat of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that. What stat of the day. And if you take away the name, take away Gastonau's name and I just say, hey, this guy had 92 sacks in six years. You'd go, oh, wow, is that J.J. watt? No. T.J. watt? No. DeMarcus Ware? No. Jared Allen? No. Lawrence Taylor? No. Michael Strahan? No. Miles Garrett? No. Mark Castano. But, man, you can hear the heartbreak. Can hear the heartbreak in his voice. And Favre is shaken. Favre is shaken.
Todd Fritz
Yeah, Paul, it feels like it comes down to likability. We go to bat for people we like and the media likes. And Mark asked no that and should put him in the hall of Fame. It's as good as J.J. watts six year stretch. It's much better, actually.
Paul Pabst
Yeah, but J.J. watt was a. He was defensive player of the year. Mark was not defensive player.
Todd Fritz
He finished top four, five, four times in a row. And it does feel like there's some people we like and go to bat for and people are going to make.
Paul Pabst
But I don't think people like Brett Favre now.
Todd Fritz
No, not now.
Paul Pabst
Like, so in this situation, we should be sympathetic to Mark Gaston.
Todd Fritz
And everyone loves Strahan, and Strahan has nothing to do with this, but he was the gift of that.
Paul Pabst
Yeah. And Favre gave it to him. He might have told his offensive lineman, hey, let Strahan go through because I'm going to do a bootleg. I mean, it looked scripted. Final hour on the way.
