You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio, Hour two on this Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. My starting lineup. Fritzi Seaton, Marv, Paulie, yours truly, and of course the back room guys. We're packing up our belongings and we'll be heading out to South Bend, Indiana. We'll be there for Thursday and Friday right outside of Legends Pub on campus. And first come, first serve, standing room only. Parking is self directed there. We'd Love to see you. 877-3-DP-SHOW Email address dpanpatrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Interesting poll question. First hour of the program, Did James Franklin have a did we say bad weekend or a good weekend? Seaton. We asked if he had a bad week. Bad weekend. Yeah. Okay, he got fired, but he will be paid upwards of $49 million to go away. The results from the first hour, he's 64, said yes, he did have a bad weekend. Weekend. Okay. Rick Neuheisel, the college analyst for CBS will join us. We'll ask him about that. Did James Franklin, did Penn State do the right thing to fire him? New Heisen will join us. Johnny Smoltz will join us in the final hour of the program. We got baseball coming up. Mariners, Blue Jays, game two, Seattle took game one and Dodgers, Brewers. That will be game one as well. All right, poll question for hour two. What are we going to go with? Do you want to start going with Penn State replacement names as the our2poll question? We've been sort of working on a list a little bit here and there. Yeah, it just feels like you throw out like Matt Campbell at Iowa State. His name, he was like Kirk Ference back in the day at Iowa. It was like Kurt Ference. He's up for that job. Oh, they could hire Curtain and he never left, which, hey, good for him. You find a place, you love a place. There's nothing wrong with staying in a place, and I love that. Some of the greatest coaches of all time. Now, I know it's different and money's different, but when you're part of that fabric, that community, and that's you, and that's your city, your town, your people, your alumni, we win, we lose together. Just something to be said for that. And I know it's, you know, opening up the scrapbook in the way it used to be, but there is something to be said about that. The loyalty that comes on both sides. Building something. Penn State thought they had something. I mean, they gave him a 10 year extension and it just didn't work out. He wasn't going. He wasn't beating these top 10 teams. You can't tell me that you're amongst the great teams in college football if you can't beat the great teams in college football. Yeah, Paulie, I guess I have a poll for hour two. If you're Hoosiers coach Kurt Signetti, you make the playoffs this year, all goes well, and Penn State offers you $3 million more per season to jump to their place next year. You do what? I don't know his makeup, but what would you guys do? I, once again, I'd have to have. I'd have to know everything about Indiana. Indiana doesn't have a sugar daddy there for their football program. It's still a basketball school. It's just like no matter what Bill Belichick does at North Carolina, there's still a basketball school. Kentucky, there's still a basketball school there. Just certain schools that. That's what you think of. I would hope he stays at Indiana. If you're building something and you know, he's established a culture at previous stops where he wins, he's not afraid, you know, tug on Superman's cape, they go out to Oregon and win that game. That was my surprise of the weekend. It wasn't that they won, it was how they won. You got a quarterback and you got a couple of skilled wide receipts. I mean, they have skilled position players and you got a really good defense there. And it's not just, hey, we're going to go to the playoffs. If I'm Indiana, I got to start thinking, and I should start thinking a bigger picture here. Playing for a national championship. Yes, Todd, I hope he stays too. Wouldn't it be nice to be a legend for many years at a school that it may not be quite as big as some of the, you know, more elite or famous programs over the years than, you know, to grab it. Obviously, it's someone else's money. If he wants some more money and he wants to say, look, I, you know, graduated to Penn State, but there's definitely something to be said for continuing to build if there's enough money in place in the world of Nil to just stay there. Thank you, Todd. Yes, Marvin. Yeah, to Todd's point, I think you become a bigger legend if you built like Dabble Sweeney. He's a bigger legend because of what he did at Clemson. If he was at Alabama. No, not Nick Saban. He's just an Alabama football coach. But you build this program into a national power that means more. But I don't know if it means more to them. I mean, I can romanticize about this and say, boy, wouldn't it be great if you showed sustainability for 20 years? I don't know if they care. I don't know if they should care. But I'm only going by growing up, you know. You know that that coach is going to be at that university now with the money, with nil, with boosters and transfers and, I mean, it's just different. It's almost like if you don't take another job, you're falling behind, you know, hey, you got offered that job. Hey, if you. They're going to stop calling. I mean, they eventually stopped calling. Kirk Ference at Iowa. Yeah. Mark Kaylin, DeBoer, perfect example. Like, look, I have to take this job. I don't know if I'll ever be this hot again. I have to take it. I didn't think he had to take it because now you're in a completely different culture and you get swallowed up. And now I. I think he's got a really good quarterback. I think Ty Simpson's a really good quarterback and, you know, he's righted the ship. But, you know, they could have lost the game against Missouri. I just think when you go, you go into the SEC certain, you know, Georgia, Alabama, certain places, Florida, you got to be careful you don't get swallowed up because it's different. I mean, uw, they love their football, but not like they do in Alabama. And all of a sudden, it doesn't take long for, you know, the pitchforks to come out. Yeah, Paulie, Kurt Signetti is an interesting case. He was at James Madison, got a lot of pub there and was hot. And he got Indiana, which is a really nice step up. But he's 64 years old. If you don't take Penn State now, that might be last call. Yeah. And I think that's a fair assessment of the situation. It just feels like everybody keeps moving. Every. Everything is transient. It's not. I'm going to stay. I'm a pause right here. There aren't many guys like Mark Few at Gonzaga, and he flirted with the UCLA job years, years ago. I like when they stay. I like seeing that or having that familiarity. But Mark Few has been there for 26 seasons at Gonzaga, and he's turned them into a powerhouse and has no reason to leave. All right, Zach in Knoxville. Good morning, Zach. What's on your mind today? Hey, dp, thanks for taking my call. Worst of the weekend was James Franklin getting fired. As an Ohio State fan, this is almost as dark a day as when go. It just really hurts. But just a. Just a quick story. My sister was at the Tennessee Arkansas game on Saturday night, and she was sitting in the skybox, and she said that all these people kept coming up to the skybox next to her to talk to some guy that she thinks was a rapper. She was like, I think his name's Jelly Roll. Yeah. Have you ever been in a situation like that where you didn't realize until after you were in the presence of somebody that was well known? Yes, it happened to me years ago at a golf tournament, and it was a kind of a celebrity golf tournament. Each group had a celebrity in the group, and everybody, you know, teed off and had fun, played best ball. And I got to the 15th hole, and I'm just kind of taking inventory, asking people what they do for a living. And, you know, there was a woman there, a school teacher, had somebody there who was a businessman. And then I talked to Dan, who was in my group, and I said, what do you do, Dan? He goes, I. I write books. I said, anything that I've read? He goes, I don't know the Da Vinci Code. And I went, oh, my God, it's Dan Brown. Wait a minute, hold on. He's the celebrity. And I got mad at the. Well, I kind of act like it was mad at the host. And I said, ow. Dan Brown was the celebrity? He goes, yeah, I thought you would appreciate that. And I went, oh, my God. And of course, I call my wife right away. I go, hey, I'm playing golf, and I'm playing golf with Dan Brown. So you're playing golf with a guy who has the same name as the guy who wrote the da Vinci cut. I go, no, no, it's him. And she goes, well, wait, aren't you the celebrity? I said, I'm supposed to be, but I'm not. And I told that to Dan Brown and. Because I said, you know, I gotta be honest, I thought I was the celebrity. And he said, you can be if you want. And. But then, then he told me how many millions of books he sold with the Da Vinci Code, but he talked about how he had death threats because. And he had to have an armed guard in his garage. Like he had to have armed guard 247 because of the Da Vinci Code. And. And he since moved out of where he was in New Hampshire. But. And I can talk about it now. But I, I was fascinated where he said, you know, you write something, you're proud of something, and then you live in fear for years that they had to have somebody that was going to be outside their house and then I think somebody in the garage as well. But yeah, Dan Brown, he was the celebrity. So thank you, Zach. Thank you for the phone call and bringing up painful memories. Buddha in San Francisco. Hi, Buddha. Happy Monday, boys. Every day is a Super Bowl. Fitzy. Let's go, baby. May we all have bad weekends like James Franklin. Dan. I did not feel bad for that little guy. And real quick, as far as the Niners go, I just wish we could be healthy. Like, it's so ridiculous how many injuries we've been dealing with. And watching Fred Warner yesterday was just brutal. Just the whole situation just leaves me shaking my head, Dan. But best of the weekend, Panthers helping America win again yesterday. And watching Derrick Jones and the Cowboys watching Rico Dowdle the beast all over them, looking like 2005 Ladanian Thomason and Quick Bester DP. Not sure if you saw the random dude sitting in the end zone in the Chiefs game. Yeah, like a black shirt that just said Cowboys sucked. That was hilarious. And worst of the weekend with Tay Tay and Caitlin Clark in the Sweets watching Dan the officiating last night and the Chiefs came. It was. It was awful. I mean, it was really a bad looking. Like you say DP when, when you talk about the refs and they're part of the storyline, that's usually not good. It's hard to go through an entire game and not be called for a penalty. Like, not one holding call. Okay, Come on, give me some scraps here. Just. Just call one. And then they gave, you know, Kelsey the catch that wasn't a catch. But then they take away Jared Goff's touchdown. There was a guy who I Think was going to make 45. He bet $15,000. I think I got this right from Dylan. He bet $15,000 on Jared Golf scoring the first touchdown. It would have been. That guy would have gotten $45,000 if they allowed that touchdown with Jared Goff. Yeah, Paul, I'm checking that off. DraftKings. And it said a better place to five grand for the first TD score to be Jared Goff. And the possible win was $450,000. Oh, I'm sorry. That's right. 5,000 to win 450. And it was a winner for about three minutes. Oh, my God. So, okay, it was five grand to win 450,000. It was plus 9,000 on this bet because golf rarely runs, and nine times five is 45. Yes. So confirmed. Yes. Yes. Marvin. Damn. So that guy's got to buy a new tv because I'm sure he broke his. They flagged him. I. You know, there's certain things where you go, why is that a penalty? Even when linemen go downfield and, you know they have to release after you throw the ball, why don't they just let him run wild? You know, Let him run like, you know, they're Buffaloes running with the Bulls. Yes, Paulie. So without getting too into the weeds, the rule Jared Goff air quotes broke was the quarterback can't line up under the center and put the hands underneath the butt and then go in motion. He didn't. And it appears that he purposely didn't put his hands there because they were aware of the rule. So it doesn't appear that the Lions broke any rule for a legal motion. When you look at it, it's like the Lions knew that I can line up, I could stand behind the center. I can't almost, like, get underneath center. It's a really convoluted rule. Like, really, we're going to call penalty on that? Yes. Todd. Wouldn't it be more fun if everyone can just keep moving and everyone's eligible? I don't understand that. An offensive lineman makes his block and then he does a little out pattern and you could just throw it to number 67 for six yards. What's the big deal? He's on the field. Everyone should have a chance to get the ball. We do have to have some rules, though. But, yeah, there. There should be, like, linemen shouldn't have to wait to release. If you're throwing a screen pass, let them go start blasting people. By the way, you know, they got got rid of the kickoff for a little while now. It's back and damn, there are some collisions. There are more violent collisions, it feels like now than there were before when they were, you know, having regular kickoffs. It's happening more often and there are, there are plays where you go, wow, they are hitting Cody in Washington. Hi, code. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, thanks for having me. You and the boys special treat every morning and do best and worst of the weekend. And then just a kind of a quick question, best of weekend, Mariners obviously going through the rollercoaster of emotions of that 15 inning game and then coming out of going to Toronto, winning that first game. That's huge. 24 years since ALCS. Only team never been to the World Series. Let's hope we get there. Worst of the weekend, Oregon. That was rough. I had a feeling. I thought of Dennis Green at the end of they are who we thought they were. And then my question, Dan, is I've always been fascinated and obviously your story and kind of time and you know, your chapters of what you've done and been through at the mothership when you were with espn, do you have like a year or a two year span where you look back and you're like, you know, that was probably from your tenure and your time being there, the funnest time or the most enjoyable and whether it was the colleagues or just, you know, kind of what it all entailed, that you look back and you're like, that was a great chapter. Mid 90s, we had a pretty good run. I was doing SportsCenter, got to cover the Chicago Bulls winning championships. SportsCenter had exploded. We started doing those SportsCenter commercials and it was just different. It was just a different feel. And every single night it was live TV back then. You might have gotten a result, at least a score, but you tuned in to watch the highlights. We were having fun with the highlights. We were getting away with things. You know, management, we would always test management just to see if they stayed up and watched the show. And then we would throw some things out and then we'd come in the next day and be like, okay, now you would get management to say, hey, nice show last night. And I realized they didn't watch, you know, be like, okay. And you know, I remember my producer said, you know, you should just ask what, what was the best part of the show? Just to see what they say. Because they would, they would do that with the radio show. They had great show. I go, okay, thank you. Yes, Marvin, during that run, were there guys that you felt like, all right, his ego's a little bit out of control. Because now you guys are getting into movies, TV shows, music videos. Was there any of that going on during that time? Yeah, yeah. I think we were all full of ourselves and we had reason to be because it was all unfolding. Next thing you know, you're in a music video. Hey, you want to be in a Sandler movie? Okay. Hey, there was talk of us hosting Saturday Night Live. Keith Olbermann and myself. Hey, Sports Illustrated is thinking about naming you guys Sportsman of the Year, Sport, you know, Sports Center. Like, all of a sudden it's like, oh, my God. Wow. Yeah. Paul, before I joined espn, I was a typical college kid watching you guys on SportsCenter. I remember seeing you in like, a TGI Fridays commercial putting the barbecue sauce on the kid's head. Yep. I was like, whoa, those guys are jumping out. Yeah. Because that's a. That's a national brand. All right, let's take a break. Rick Neuheiser will join us. We'll talk about James Franklin, Bill Belichick, and we'll do so next year. Dan Patrick Show. Hey sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance bro tell you how to manage your money Again? Welcome to Brown Ambition. This is the hard part when you pay down those credit cards. If you haven't gotten to the bottom of the why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem. A year from now when you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan starting with your local credit union. Shopping around online looking for some online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive in these streets I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt and it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand. It's nice and dark in the sand. Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment, free money advice, listen to Brown ambition on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation. Like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it, if it's going to be beneficial to you because it's easy to just say like, like go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walk the other way. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex problem solving, meditating, you know, takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. There's a little skirmish at the end of the Chiefs Lions game where defensive player Brian Branch smacked juju Smith Schuster. And there were some words. Juju was put his hand out to shake, you know, his hand after the game and Branch said that Schuster had blocked him in the back and then you smack him the side of the helmet there. Here is Andy Reid, the chief said coach on that skirmish now you guys, I mean, it was, you know, the guy came up and hit Juju for look like no reason. I Mean, we're taking a knee, so. Yeah, that's. That's tough. I mean, put pretty good damage on juju's nose. Okay. It didn't look like that because he hit him on the side of the helmet there and then all of a sudden, bench clearing there. I mean, it could have gotten ugly, but I didn't know if, you know, Smith Schuster had damage to his nose. Yeah, Paulie. Or yes. I'm guessing that maybe, you know, at right after this, juju sort of gets thrown to the ground and his helmet comes off, and that's probably where his nose got messed up. Okay. Not from that sort of smash to the face. All right, good. Thank you for that. If you're coming out to South Bend on Thursday or Friday, we will be outside Legends Pub on campus. That'll be Thursday and Friday. First come, first serve, standing room only. Parking is self directed there. But if you want to come out and meet with us, have some fun, have some laughs, and we'll be in the shadows of greatness there. From Notre Dame. Not us. You won't be in the shadows of greatness with us, but, you know, you'll be able to be there on campus. Not with our height, no. Well, I mean yours, but my. I'm the tallest one. Followed by Marvin, then Seaton and Paulie, then Todd. I think Paul's taller than me. Your hair is taller than mine. You got much better. Much taller hair, though. So it equals a lot. Yeah, yeah, I'm probably. I'm probably. The real question is between Paul and Marvin. I think I'm slightly taller than Todd, though. Okay. Well, Paulie, you're not six feet, are you? I'm listed six feet in the program. I think I'm six even, but it's close. Okay. All right. Rick Neuheisel, CBS Sports college football analyst, and he was in Eugene for the big upset with Indiana and Oregon, which we'll talk about in a moment. We been spending a lot of time talking about Penn State. Did Penn State do the right thing with James Franklin? You know, it's hard to imagine a business saying it's the right thing when they're letting $50 million go out the door in dead money, which is exactly what this is. But I think, Dan, what we're in is an era where we're asking so much of our fan base to participate financially with nil, you know, the collectives. I know we're doing it in house, but still, that money's got to come from somewhere. And so I think what we've Got is a bunch of kind of pseudo owners. And this is what happened with Jimbo Fisher at Texas A and M. Some rich oil guy said he's got to go, I'll write the check. And I'm sure something close to that happened at Penn State and Pat Kraft had to move, you know, the record, if you just look at his record, overall record, you go, that's pretty impressive. And just about any university would sign up for that. But I said last week, there's, there's the blue blood programs that wouldn't put up with that kind of one loss record to ranked teams. Ohio State wouldn't, Michigan wouldn't, Alabama wouldn't, Georgia wouldn't. Penn State had to decide, are we, do we want to be in that group? Are we going to accept this? And I thought Franklin did a wonderful job in restoring, you know, agreed. Some of the greatness to that program, but it's not a coincidence that he couldn't beat, you know, ranked teams. The number of games that went the other way make it no longer a coincidence. I agree with that. There was something in the DNA that just didn't allow them to play in those games. So I get it. I don't know that in the middle of the season, it makes a lot of sense, but it does put them as the best job available. And if they're looking for a guy I know, Kurt Signetti, his name is the one that everybody's using. If they're looking for somebody, it does allow the wheels to start turning. How do you get paid or how does a university pay you when you get fired? Like, is it $49 million? The Jimmy Sexton deal for Gus Malzahn was. Half of it was due in 30 days. So he had 21 million coming at the end of that deal. And so Gus got 10.8, 10.8 in 30 days. And then over the life of the contract, they paid the other 10.8. I penned the song. Did I ever tell you you're my hero to Gus, you're everything that I would like to be. Bette Midler didn't sing it with as much emotion as I did. I promise you, the Indiana handling Orego, you were at that game and it felt like Indiana was the better team and kind of took control of it. Was there a turning point for you in that game? I think it was shocking. I was thinking that the Oregon offense would be just too fast. I just had in my mind, you know, maybe, you know, the Midwestern farm plotters would be on defense, and it was just Going to be lightning fast. Whether it be the pace or the speed of the players, they kept their edges all day long. That is a dang good defense. Playing for Indiana to go along with a, you know, rising star in Fernando Mendoza and two really good probable NFL guys playing wide receiver. I just think that's a really good football team. And I think it was kind of shocking to Oregon that they could not use their speed to an advantage. Give the Hoosiers all the credit in the world. Talking to Rick Neuheisel, CBS Sports college football analyst, they were in Eugene for Indiana's win at Oregon. I'm watching the broadcast and you were very matter of factly saying Bill Belichick will be relieved of his duties at North Carolina or something similar to that at the end of the year. I can't imagine this going much longer if what we're seeing continues. And what we're seeing is a very average to below average team on the field that doesn't look like they're having any fun, doesn't look inspired. The coach has taken, you know, breaks in the middle of season. I asked a couple of guys that I know played for Coach Belichick, would he ever take like little rest vacations in the middle of a bye week. Says that car was parked in that parking lot 24 7. That's where he lived. I just don't see this as something that both sides are going to say can continue one for the legacy, especially if the money's right for Belichick. I see at the end of the season this going in a vastly different direction, but does somebody hire him in the NFL? Let's say the Dolphins job was open. I can't imagine. I can't imagine somebody can go and get Bill Belichick at this age. And given what we just saw and the guy who said no distractions has been distraction with a capital D. I thought it was a big win for usc, an impressive win to beat Michigan. I don't know. I don't know how good Michigan is and I'm not quite sure how good USC is. But you got to win that game knowing you got Notre Dame this weekend. To me, it's the best win Lincoln Riley's had at SC because as you point out, he has to be able to play with the bullies. And Michigan had just run rough shot over Nebraska. Not so much in this points, but in terms of just running the ball for SC to hold up in the trenches and to find a way to win that game puts them in the contest. And now They've got a real ban game this week against the Irish. Kind of a must win for both of them. As it relates to cfp. Any memories of South Bend? We're taking the show there later in the week. You know, I've never been there for a game. I have been there for spring practice. I got to speak at a spring clinic for Brian Kelly. I have been there. Tony Alford used to be the running back coach. He was my running back coach at Washington, so he gave me the tour. The place is unbelievable. I mean, it is unbelievable. You're in for a treat. But it's. It's going to be raucous for game day. And how about the Irish with just kind of presto change? Oh, they're back, right. Controlling their own destiny again with the two quality losses. Great to talk to you. Thanks for joining us. Have a great week. Always a pleasure, my friend. Rick Neuheisel, former college coach, now an analyst for CBS Sports. James in Virginia. Hi, James. What's on your mind? Thanks for taking my call, brother. Happy Monday. DT Dan X Man, salute the Commanders. Big time, all the time, every time. Just what a great weekend of football, man. I was telling Tyler, man, the SEC is just packed full of teams, man. Week in and week out, you just got juggernaut matchups. I still really like lsu, but Bama, Ole Miss, Texas A and M, even Georgia, they all got chances in that league. And I tell you what, man, you look at OU schedule the rest of the way, it's just gauntlet, man. If Ole Miss get through the next two weeks, they could go undefeated. I can't wait to see what happens real quick with the NFL. Washington, man, this is a huge game for Washington. And America is about to meet the Commanders and Jake and Daniels, the next seven weeks. Tonight through the next seven weeks, they are five time games. And two games of the week, 425 picks. It is going to be crazy. But the NFC is so. I think there's six teams that are four and two and like two, five and one, Green Bay three, one and one. So they gotta keep pace. They gotta win tonight. If you're up for it, Paulie, I'll do a fight in the face, but it's gotta be straight up. No point. Thank you for taking my call. Gentlemen, salute the Commanders. Y' all have a great day. All right. The Bears are getting five and a half at the commanders. How confident do you feel about your Bears, Paul? Lightly, lightly confident. To be honest, I don't feel great about it. They can't Stop the run and Washington can run. That's a bad mix. Okay, I would like to do a bet besides pie to the face. Something saucy with James. Mike. I don't know. You guys fill in the parameters, I'll do the bet. Get a tattoo. Every time. We would do Wheel of Punishment. Be like, get a tattoo. Shave your head. Yes. To your face. How about Paul has to do an entire show as an impression of James of Virginia. I don't know how to do that. Yes, you do. A lot of high energy and one breath. Love the hair, dad. It's looking good these days. Can't believe you went to Maine. Maine's the best. They don't have good football. Tired already? Completely wiped out. And then James has to do a pie to the face. Sure. I think that's good. Yeah. All right, James, Paulie will take you up on it. Oh, man. Thank you, Dan. It's still wild. Nick in la. Hi, Nick. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, how's it going? Just attacking each day with enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Getting ready for those pesky underdog Dodgers today. I got. I got two best of the weekend. The Chargers with their fifth and sixth string offensive tackles. And Justin Herbert looking like Hercules back there with the game winning drive. Justin Herbert had 18 game winning drives since 2020, only behind Patrick Mahomes. Number two. DP's own, Jerry Newheisel throwing up 38 points yet again. What has gotten into Westwood? Have a great week, boys. Thank you, Nick. Yeah, they roughed up Michigan State. That was impressive. And I think this is the last year of his contract as the offensive coordinator at ucla. I'm guessing Rick's son is probably going to have an opportunity to maybe be a head coach after this season. Aaron in Virginia. Hi, Aaron. What's on your mind today? Hey, happy Monday, dp. Dan, I just want to shout out Virginia. I feel like we've had a lot of callers from Virginia here recently. The only thing that I wanted to comment on today is the guy about two months ago who was keeping tabs of all the heights and weights coming in. I feel like we need to tell the second and third time callers to not say their height and weight. That's going to skew his results. Oh, yeah, we had the person who gave us the average height and weight of my listeners. Thank you, Aaron. We'll get some of our best people on it. By the way, if you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, during the commercial break on radio, we're going to measure everybody here, myself and the Danettes, we're going to find out who is 6ft tall, who is taller than 6ft, who has been lying about their height. We'll have that coming up during the commercial break. Our best and worst of the weekend. Also coming up right after this, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Hey sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance bro tell you how to manage your money again. Welcome to Brown Ambition. This is the hard part when you pay down those credit cards. If you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem. A year from now when when you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan starting with your local credit union. That's nice and dark in the sand. Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment, free money advice, listen to Brown ambition on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation, like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it, if it's going to be beneficial to you. Because it's easy to say, like, go blank yourself yourself. Right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walk the other way. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex problem solving. Meditating, you know, takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. December 29, 1975, LaGuardia Airport. The holiday rush. Parents hauling luggage. Kids gripping their new Christmas toys. Then at 6:33pm everything changed. There's been a bombing at the TWA terminal. Apparently the explosion actually impelled metal glass. The injured were being loaded into ambulances. Just a chaotic, chaotic scene. In its wake, a new kind of enemy emerged. And it was here to stay. Terrorism, law and criminal justice system is back in season two. We're turning our focus to a threat that hides in plain sight that's harder to predict and even harder to stop. Listen to the new season of law and criminal justice System on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts if you're watching on Peacock. During the commercial break, we did the official measuring. Who is the tallest? Who is the shortest in here? I'm six one and a half. Marvin is six and a half. Six foot and a half inch. Seaton is five eleven and three quarters. Paulie is five eleven and a half. Five eleven and a half. I don't know if I agree with that. Oh, wait. What? I think Paul's taller than that. Oh, I had a bad day. I think you did. You're on it. They caught you on a short day because I think you're taller than that. I felt like I was having a short day. You're having a short day today. Day. You keep your head up. All right. You got beaten down by the Cubs losing to the Brewers. Right. So you might be 5:11 tomorrow if the commander is beat down on the Bears. I literally got beaten down by the Cubs. All right. Yes. Todd, it's Columbus Day. Should be a short day for everybody. Some people have the whole day off. What was your height, Todd? I was 5, 9 and 3 quarters with very thin socks and I did not have my chin up as high as everybody else. Oh, I'm gonna. I've rounded up to 510 in my own head, but. Yeah, just under 510 and no hair. Yeah. That hurts you? Yeah. Paul. Todd's lack of hair helped hurt his case because the measurement was, you know, vague with the hair system. Just need an extra quarter inch to get to 5:10. Yeah. Sorry. But you're not there. I'm not. I'm only going to get shorter because that's what happens. Seaton seems to be getting bigger feet getting bigger hands. Getting bigger. Yeah. Now I'm. I'm still just as tall as I was in high school, which is good. I haven't shrunk. That's. Yeah, that's pretty good. All right. Best and worst of the weekend. Home version. Todd, Chris and Syracuse and Cody and Washington beat me to it, but I'm sticking with it. The 15 inning game 5 ALDS, Tigers, Mariners, Friday night in Seattle. A lot of drama. Great pitching by both sides. Ended like 1:20 in the morning. And I watched all of it and it was awesome. Worst. Although it was only their first loss of the year, giving it to the Oklahoma Sooners, managing a pair of first half field goals in the Red river rivalry. Got outscored 20 nothing in the second half against an inconsistent Texas team and quarterback. Final 236 Longhorns. Tarik Skubal pitched unbelievable for the Tigers in The postseason. Unbelievable, man. He brings it. He just pounds the strike zone and didn't have much to show for. He strikes out. It feels like he strikes out two guys per inning. All right, Seaton. Best and worst of the weekend. My best of the weekend, Drake May future MVP candidate. Question mark. Question mark. Let's having a breakout season. Good for him. Happy about that. My worst of the weekend is the 49ers, because they may actually be cursed. I'm seeing that a lot right now from 49ers fans. But their kicker having his foot stepped on just after making the kick. Good grief, man. I bet that was a gigantic foot that stepped on his big toe. I bet that hurt like hell, man. And the fact that they had that replay and you just see this, you know, huge foot, and it steps on kicker's foot. Marvin. Best worst of the weekend. Best of the weekend. Our boy Cam Newton getting his jersey retired by Auburn. He's only the fourth player in Auburn to ever get his jersey retired by the school. Worst of the weekend, Florida State. Man, they lost the pit after starting 30 with a big win against Alabama. Oh, brother. They've lost their last three, and they're.03 in the accident. And now all of a sudden, they're back to checking out the buyout for their head coach. It felt like, okay, Florida State's back. You know, we like when Florida State is back. And then all of a sudden, not so fast. Paulie. Best and worst. A couple undefeated teams not getting their due. For my bests, Texas Tech running back Cameron Dickey, 263 yards rushing against the Jayhawks. Texas Tech is six and, oh, no one's talking about them. And then Georgia Tech football, also six and, oh, really nice uniforms, of course. And they're playing some good football. They have an interesting schedule coming up, but they finish a season versus Georgia. What an opportunity for Georgia Tech football. Yeah, they traditionally end the season against one another. Keith in Charlotte. Hi, Keith. Best and worst of the weekend. Hey, Dan. I have a couple bats and then kind of a worst. Beth, I called Friday about the Panthers taking down the Cowboys. Eventually, they're. Or right now, they're just getting better and better. I'll take it. Next best is my son's 13U baseball team winning their first championship this weekend, which is super sweet. And then the worst was watching the Panther game while keeping score on my phone for them, watching a little tiny screen and cheering for them. Just overall, just a really good weekend. Go Panthers. Let's go. All right, Keith. Yeah, Keith was like, hey, Panthers against Cowboys. And then all of a sudden I saw some of the Vegas Sharps and they liked the Panthers at home getting three David and Tulsa. Hi, David. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan. Good morning, man. I gotta give my best and worst. The best was Oka the Las Vegas Raiders final winning one. About time. And then my. I don't have it worse, but my best is Oklahoma State Cowboys, even though they got blowed out again. The old skinless, the shirtless section. I'd like to see how that's gonna look for homecoming in a couple weeks. Probably more kids out there. I mean, you know, loyal and true to the end, I guess. But we'll see what happens. Yeah, Homecoming, that won't be a pretty picture. Thank you, David. Brian in Utah. Hi, Brian. Best and worst of the weekend. Hey, Dan. What a pleasure to talk to you. I just love your show. Been first time, long time for a long time. And I just love the chemistry you guys have there. My best of the weekend is Utah just destroying Arizona State. And my worst is byu escaping by the skin of their teeth but setting up a really good rivalry game coming up this week. Hey, if I've got a couple seconds, I've got a Bill Belichick song. It's very short, but I wanted to share it with you. Is that all right? Okay, Brian. All right, let's give it a shot here. Todd, you tell me how I do on this. I used to school the world Teams would hide when we took the field now in the shadow of Brady smile I cut the grass that used to bow I hear Kenan Stadium's bells a ringing Looking to bring us all back to winning sure wish hoodies could strike with fear like in New England in yester some reason I can't explain When I'm in a living room My face doesn't change it doesn't seem to help recruit a skid to school the world all right, Brian. Thank you. Little cold play. And when I'm in a living room My face doesn't change I don't know why he's asking Todd about how well he's singing. I was gonna say I love the efforts, but similar to my singing voice is probably something. Best red then perform Keith in Tampa. Hi, Keith. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. 59170. Calling in. Calling in with the stat of the day for you guys. Baker Mayfield yesterday became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw two 70 yard touchdowns and two 40 yard touchdowns in consecutive. Just wanted to drop that tidbit on you guys. Thank you. Baker had a great run in that game. Great run. And he was not going to be denied. He also got hit. He had thrown a touchdown pass, but he took a hit from the DB and got up and was clapping. And you know, people, I think it's weird. He was the number one pick in the draft, but we treat him like he was a fourth round draft pick. Like, man, look at him. He's doing pretty well. He was the number one pick in the draft. It's like when Jared Goff plays well, we're like, man, that's a good story that he was the number one pick in the draft. We forget. Yes, Marvin. Like, look, he could be mvp. He was the number one pick in the draft. The goal was for him to be mvp. All righty. Two hours in the books on this Monday. More phone calls coming up. Best and worst of the weekend. John Smoltz, on loan from Fox, will stop by. He'll preview the baseball games coming up tonight. Two hours in the books. Only one more to go with Fritzie Seaton, Marv Polly, and yours truly on the Dan Patrick Show. I'm the homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everybody let me know. Lauren LaRosa.
