I, you know, it's one of those, do you want to look too old or too young, depending on the age that you actually are? Let's say you're 25, but you look 35 or you look 15. Yes. Dylan, as someone who's on the opposite side of that, I would take looking younger for sure. Yes. You are the oldest 29 year old. I get 47 a lot. You. You could pass for somebody who's in their late 30s. And I would happily trade to look 17. Yeah. If I'm 25 and I look 15 or I'm 25 and I look 35. Okay, now this happened to John Ham, the great actor Mad Men. Early in his career. He looked older and even though he was 25 and. But he looked 35 and he said that he lost roles because he looked too old. Boohoo. Like Ralph Macchio, the Karate Kid. It felt like. It still feels like he's around, you know, 21 years of age. If you see him, he hasn't aged too much, I guess. I guess I would always want to look younger because I know eventually that's going to play to my strengths when I'm 50 and I look, you know, Keanu Reeves, classic example, when he came in, I think he was 50 years of age at the time he came in. He looked like he was 35, right? He was. Came in and he looked like a million bucks. I'd take that. Not. Not a bad trade off that you look a little bit younger. Yes, Paul.

But then there's an actor like Paul.

Jamati, who, age 30, probably looked 50, maybe.

I wonder if that got him, like more upstanding roles or something like that.

Can it work to your advantage in any way?

I never know how. I don't know how old he is. And if I watch a movie, I don't think, think, how old is Paul Giamatti? But he does sort of play older characters. He's probably close to 60 years of age, but it feels like he's been kind of close to that look for a long time. Yes, Todd.

Cocoon was a big time movie in the early 90s, late 80s. It's about old people and stuff like this. And Wilfred Brinley is one of the stars. He had a big white mustache and he looked like an older man. He was 49 years old when they shot.

He looked like he's 70 easily. And then in the movie the Firm. Wilford Brimley, right. Indy Chasing Tom Cruise in that movie. And he probably 55 years of age. Probably looks 75 there.

He was a sports information director in the central Michigan area back in the 70s. He saw magic playing in high school, gave him that nickname. But more importantly, he was my next door neighbor when I was growing up, so.

He had a whole room just dedicated to Magic and. And despite the 79 Spartans. So thank you, Bob. Probably loved seeing his nickname that he give Magic in print. Well, I'll tell you, I think you learn everything. I, I think someone's entire personality comes out on the golf course. The good, the bad, the ugly. It is all there. And I think you can judge for yourself whether you want to play with this guy.

[Todd Fritz]

Again, I agree with you. I think if I was interviewing somebody for a job, going out and playing golf, I find out how competitive you are, how honest you are. Are you a storyteller, are you courteous to others? And those are all things that you have to have to work in, you know, a, a working environment.

[Dylan]

Yeah. I think, boy, you can tell so much. Every, you know, every demon that you have comes out. Every and every pleasure that you can enjoy comes out. I mean it's, that's why I love it so much. Why also, by the way, the other reason why I love it is. And it, I don't know if you know the story, Dan. My father, of course, was the longtime 75 year sports columnist writer for the Washington Post. He was a 14 year old cat in Bar Harbor, Maine. That's where he grew up. And he was a caddy. And he was thrown in with this guy when he was like 15 years old. And the guy said after my f caddied for him, you're the best caddy. My. I will, my carriage will pick you up every day at Tebow Valley Golf Club. And, and after three years, he goes to my grandmother, says to my grandmother, I want to take your son with me to Washington D.C. i own my own golf course at my house and I'll also give you give him a job. And my grandmother reluctantly said yes. My father showed up. The first person he caddied for was President Warren G. Harding. And the Guy G. Guy owned the Washington Post. That was a 75 year experience for my father.

[Todd Fritz]

And your dad was a legendary columnist. Here is one of the great journalists of his time. And I'm curious when he sees his son during the do you know, doing the Maury Povich show.

[Dylan]

Yeah.

[Todd Fritz]

What does dad think about what his son is doing well, I'll tell you.

[Dylan]

He. The first national show that he had to deal with was A Current Affair, this kind of tabloid crazy show that I did. And he said to me, well, son, just don't worry about it. I said, well, Tom Shales, the Pulitzer Prize winning television critic at the Washington Post, wrote this terrible story about me. Dad, he used every s word in the world. Smarmy, sorted everything in the world. Please don't show this to mom today. Don't even look at it. He says, well, son, you know, don't worry about. Just go about your business. It's fine. It's all right. I said, yeah, but dad. He says, you know, I. I helped to hire Tom Shales at the Washington Post. I said, yeah, dad, but I'm your son. He says, yeah, but good writers are hard to find. That was my father.

[Todd Fritz]

Did you ever get injured on the Maury Povich Show?

[Dylan]

No, no, never. Never. I mean, you know, it's interesting. Everybody kind of compares my show with. With Jerry Springer show, and, And Jerry and I were great friends. And Jerry always made the distinction. I. I give him full credit. He said, maury, here's the difference. You're the real thing. And my show is wrestling. And that's how. And that's how. By the way, I got a story to tell you, Dan, about you. Many years ago, Connie Chung. As you know, my wife and I were at the Tahoe Celebrity tournament, and we're out there one time, and this is after you. This is when you were on SportsCenter. And she. We loved watching you on SportsCenter. I don't know who you were with at the time, Steiner or somebody who. I can't remember, but we just were enthralled with you. And so we're at the tournament, and I said to Connie at the cocktail hour, I said, there's Dan. So she goes over and starts talking and starts telling Dan how great you are at. On SportsCenter and how funny you are and how great you are. And I walk up behind her and I said, connie, that's Dan Hicks. It's not Dan Patrick. And she says, oh, my gosh. I said, that's Dan Hicks. And then she turns to me and she says, well, you know, all these white sports guys look alike.

[Todd Fritz]

Fair enough. Fair enough. But I'll take those compliments, even if they went through Dan Hicks. Okay. I do remember seeing you and Connie at Tahoe, right? Yes. Oh, yeah. But I've had people think that I was Stuart Scott, which. Yeah, let that one sink In.

[Dylan]

Yeah. Well, everybody always mistook me for, for Springer all the time on the street. I mean, it's crazy.

[Todd Fritz]

Was there ever an episode where you had a hard time doing it or being convinced to do it?

[Dylan]

Well, there was, there was a couple of episodes. The same theme that, that just were astounding that this woman was accusing this guy of being the father of her twins. And I, I, of course, best thing I ever did was I never knew the results of anything. I wanted to be like my guest, my, my audience. I wanted to be as surprised as anybody. That's why the inflection of, you are the father, you are not the father. I open up this envelope and this guy is the father of one twin, but not the other. And so I turn around to the staff, I went, what, what is this? And then I find out that with fraternal twins, and you're very active, young lady, you can have two fathers.

[Todd Fritz]

Well, what I'd really like to interview is, and by the way, an old golf buddy of mine is the 43rd president of the United States, George W. Bush, who I really kind of admire in the way he's conducted himself after his presidency. And he doesn't give many interviews. I would love to interview him. I would also like to interview Shaq and Charles because do they like each other? Don't they play this game? I'd love to have them on both. Shaq as well. Shaq was always a great fan of the Maury show because he said that he and his buddies used to bet on whether the guy was the father or not.

[Todd Fritz]

Did you ever feel sorry for a guest, like in a situation like that where you're revealing information?

[Dylan]

Well, I felt sorry for the, the woman, the women who used to come on multiple times and the audience would boo them. And I was, I was, you know, and I was, I always felt that they had a certain amount of courage and bravery for keep coming on to find out who the father of their child was. And so I felt sorry for them every single time it didn't turn out.

[Todd Fritz]

To be the father because these are life altering moments.

[Dylan]

Absolutely, absolutely. And, you know, and I used to get criticized all the time in the media that I was exploiting this theme and everything. And I always said, you know, if I can get two parents in a child's life. They have. Those kids have a better chance. That's. It's just. It's just for real. And so that's how I hang my hat.

[Todd Fritz]

Could you do your show today the same way you did it, given today's guidelines parameters?

[Dylan]

Yeah, I think so. I could. I could. But I think the show ended at the proper time. And by the way, it hasn't ended. The repeats. I mean, you know about repeats. I mean, the repeats are getting as good ratings as the originals. And so, I mean, and it's, it just, it's a gift that keeps on giving.

[Todd Fritz]

Give me your favorite interview so far that you've had on your podcast.

[Dylan]

Well, it's interesting. I've had so many different ones. I'll tell you one I really like. You know who Jeff Pearlman is? The sports writer.

[Todd Fritz]

Yes.

[Dylan]

The guy who wrote Winning Time. Yeah, I thought he was fascinating. I think he had. He had a lot of good things to say. I have Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank. Yeah, she's. She's as feisty as they come. I mean, they're great. And then I this week is a dear friend of mine, Lewis Black, the great comedian. And Lewis is a friend of mine, Louis. We knew Louis a little bit. And then my wife gave me a surprise 70th birthday party many years ago and hires, unbeknownst to me, Lewis, to do the entertainment at my apartment in New York. Flack comes on. The first thing he says is, how far have I fallen? Broadway and Carnegie hall and Povich's birthday party.

[Todd Fritz]

I mean, you don't go to Dallas in February thinking it's going to be an ice storm and freezing, freezing temperatures. You couldn't drive any place trying to get guests to walk over on the ice. But we somehow made it work. But looking back on that, we had to go get. I think we went to, like, REI and just loaded up on winter coats. We had to have heaters blowing heat in there because we didn't think we would need that. Remember, we had the. The bowl. Mechanical bowl. Oh, yeah, Fritz, he was up on the mechanical bowl and a hernia at the time. Yeah, we had a basketball hoop there. We reenacted the Leon Let Fumble since we were in Dallas. Michael Strahan came by, nearly put Paul over a railing. Everything else was just a blur. That's one of those where you go, I just. I got. I'm gonna do my best to get through this week. Yeah, Paulie, I, I remember waking up.

It was the Tuesday of Super bowl week in Dallas and I woke up.

And the weather, it was like sleet.

Going sideways outside our hotel room.

And I checked the weather and it was 11 degrees sideways.

I'm just not interested in his fights. The NHL draft tonight in Los Angeles, by the way, the football situation here with Justin Tucker accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists and these are from eight high end spas wellness centers in the Baltimore area. All of the alleged misconduct reportedly occurred between 2012 and 2016. So that's his first five years in the NFL. The Ravens released Tucker, who had three years left on his contract. They released him on May 5th. So the most accurate kicker in league history was kicked to the curb. He has been suspended for 10 weeks by the NFL. His agent, Justin Tucker's agent, Rob Roach said, We are disappointed with the NFL's decision. Justin has always strived to carry himself in a way that would make his family and community proud. He stands by his previous statements in order to put this difficult episode behind him and get back on the field as soon as possible. We have advised Justin to accept this resolution and close this matter. It doesn't close this matter. He's still going to be viewed as guilty of something here and if probably more so. Now you're going, why would you accept this? If you said, hey, I have done nothing wrong, why would you allow this now? I'm sure there's legal reasons, you know Far above my pay grade. He is repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations unequivocally false and describing the Baltimore newspaper, the Banners article as desperate tabloid fodder. Why not keep fighting? You're not employed by a team. Now, Mike Florio, who's a lawyer, pro football talk co host, he said that you take the 10 weeks so it doesn't cost you maybe 10 more weeks if you're going to fight this. If. If I don't care about playing football again, if I'm Justin Tucker, if I clear my name, that's the most important thing. You've made a great living. You would go to the hall of Fame. You may still go to the hall of Fame. They're not supposed to factor in off the field stones, but I'm sure voters will. But another. But I got to clear my name. I couldn't care less about kicking another football, but I do want to get. I. I have to shed this. And if you don't fight this, it doesn't close anything other than all right, you got suspended for 10 weeks. Have he hasn't apologized to anybody. Are there going to be civil suits in here? I'm guessing probably why he hadn't apologized. But after 10 weeks, I don't think America football America is going to go, okay, he served his punishment for something he said he didn't do. Oh, I'm never going to think of him that way again. I can't imagine he plays football again. After 10 weeks, a team's going to go. We're going to bring him in. Can you. You imagine he didn't do well this year because he must have known that. I mean, he had a terrible year. And everybody's like, what is up with Justin Tucker? And it might have been that he realized that this was, you know, surfacing. This doesn't go away. Hey, you were gone for ten weeks. Okay, welcome back. Now, if he was kicking the way he once did, if this is five years ago, then you probably have teams going. Well, everybody deserve. I always love when they go. Everybody deserves a second chance. It just doesn't go away. I mean, it wouldn't go away from me as a member of the media. Because let's say after 10 weeks, then somebody picks him up and he was on the show. Do they think that nobody's going to ask about this? And we have invited Justin on. Paulie's reached out numerous or Fritz, he's reached out numerous times to hear his side. But there's 16 therapists, massage therapists, not one or two or three. I mean, it's not to the extent of DeSean Watson, but I just can't. I mean, it's in the neighborhood. Like, you get to a certain number and you go, okay, it doesn't matter if it's 16 or 24, it's terrible. But after 10 weeks, I just can't imagine members of the media or in any city where he's picked up going, we would appreciate if you keep this on to football questions. No, no, no, no. That doesn't work that way. Or if the coach gets in front or the GM gets in front of the media or the owner, then go away. We'll just take our punishment. We're not guilty. We'll take our punishment.
