Hello, Malcolm Glaubel here. We're here in New York City with T Mobile for business recording another episode of Revisionist history about how 5G network slicing strengthens trust and connections across worldwide industries.
Malcolm Glaubel
Slicing can be used for so many different things. We're here with our friends from CNN from Siemens Energy. The ways that it can be used, frankly, are limitless and are really, really built to think through. How can T Mobile understand the pain points that our customers have? Smash those pain points and help you deliver very specific outcomes.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Hour 2 on this Thursday. Dan and the Danettes Dan Patrick Show Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Charles Barkley in an hour from now, Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk Live. He will join us to talk about the still unfolding controversy that Bill Belichick not a first ballot hall of famer. There's also a report that Eli Manning is not a Second ballot hall of Famer. So we'll talk to Florio about that as well. There was some news yesterday at the tail end of the show when Shams was on the mothership and he was talking about the possibility of Giannis being traded. And the reason why I brought it up is that he had information that Giannis was now asking to be traded. We were waiting to see if it got to that point and was he going to say something publicly, probably said something privately, or his agent did. Now all of a sudden, Milwaukee Bucks are on the clock. Trade deadline coming up in what, a week from now, February 5th. Trade deadline. So he wants out. And if you're Milwaukee, you've been thinking about this. Not publicly, but you, you know, you have to do the what ifs scenarios here. But you don't want to be hurrying in, rushing in to just trade Giannis. You have to get something that's going to help you. Two time mvp, got an NBA championship. And if nothing at the trade deadline moves the needle, then you have to be patient. And you know those summer trades open more doors, teams have flexibility and that's when bidding wars are, are born. But Giannis in Milwaukee, the time is coming to an end. What matters now is not how fast you move him, but what do you do, what do you get when you do move him? I still think Golden State makes the most sense. If I'm Milwaukee, I don't want Carl Anthony Towns, I don't want to pair him with Miles Turner. Who else is going to have draft picks? And maybe a young player or two. Milwaukee reportedly wants a young blue chip star. But if I'm a team, why am I trading my blue chip star for a guy who is an older star? Golden State makes sense. If you want to make a one last run, can you trade? I think they got like four first round draft picks in the next couple of drafts. Jonathan Kaminga, the much rumored Jonathan Kaminga could be on the move. Can you trade Jimmy Butler's contract to the Milwaukee Bucks? I think there's pieces in there. I'm not sure what you're going to have left over, but if you give me Steph Giannis, Draymond Green. Okay, I've got your attention at least. And this has been rumored for the last two years of Giannis going to Golden State and maybe, maybe that's where you have him. You don't want to trade him and keep him in the East. Send him out west and Giannis with Steph and maybe you got two years trying to win another championship. Charles Barkley will join us in an hour from now. So we'll talk about this. And also the inside the NBA crew, they were talking about LeBron James and what they think will happen with LeBron James. And it almost felt like they were suggesting if he comes back, would he come back and play for Cleveland and his career there? And I think that that's been talked about before. Nothing public by LeBron, but LeBron going back to Cleveland with Bronnie, of course. And that'd be a nice way to end it if it happens that way. And it doesn't have to be a move based on money. If LeBron decided he was going to take that mid level, you know, salary exemption, I mean, you could make this work. You don't want to give up, if you're LeBron, you don't want to be giving up these young players, you know, for them to get you. And you don't want to strap them salary cap wise with your salary. And if you do it and you don't do it for the money, you know, you could have a team that could win the East. You could go back to the NBA Finals. You got a better chance in Cleveland with that roster than you do with the Lakers. So we'll talk to Charles about that. He'll join us in the final hour of the program.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, I was just thinking of a couple teams. I saw some odds of teams that could pursue Giannis. If you're the Oklahoma City Thunder, you're 38 and 10 and you've got tons of draft picks, would you consider it?
Dan Patrick
No. I'm already the best team in the league. I don't want to disrupt what we have. I want to be true to these players who helped us win a championship. Because by bringing in Giannis. Are you telling them without telling them, we need help if we're going to try to win again this year. I think they look at this and say we're still the best team and we've. I don't want to give up the future here like we're built for the next five years. I don't want to give that up just to win one more title. I want to win two or three more titles. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, if Giannis goes to Golden State to pair up with Steph, does he undo the goodwill that he got while he was in Milwaukee? Is like the small market guy winning a championship, staying quote, unquote, loyal to his team. Does he undo that goodwill?
Dan Patrick
No. He gave you a championship. He was loyal. They just didn't put the right pieces around him, you know, coaches around him. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, same question with the Spurs, 32 and 15, maybe a little ahead of schedule. Wemby, do you mess with that and bring in Giannis?
Dan Patrick
No, man, no.
Paulie
That's a too quick nose.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I got something in San Antonio. I do. I don't want to mess with that. And I got something in okc. I don't want to mess with that. Golden State. Golden State got a swing for the fences because as it is now, you're just going to be one of those. Oh, you get a chance, a chance to see Steph Curry. You're treading water. And that's no man's land in the NBA. Hey, you know, you won 44 games. That wouldn't cut it for me. I would take a big swing and go after Giannis because you might not have anything to show for this over the next two years, the way you're going now. And if you get him now, all of a sudden that now you have something. And maybe you get into the playoffs and you get into these, you know, five game, seven game series, boy, they'll be a tough out. You got to beat them four times. But I don't know what you're going to give up. But if you're giving up draft picks, Milwaukee gets a couple of players, maybe you get Butler's expiring contract. And once again, I don't do the math. And you know how this fits in a salary cap. None of that is just as much. And maybe a third team has to get involved in this as well. 8, 7, 7, 3, DP show email address dp@danpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP Show in his first 12 games in Cleveland as a visiting player, LeBron James went 10 and 2. Bronnie had a highlight last night in mop up time that he did. Yeah. Had a dunk, threw it down, big man.
Marvin
He had eight points last night.
Dan Patrick
Almost outscored his dad. Bron had 11. Really? Yeah. Yeah, he had 11. Yeah. Bronnie turning it up. Turning up the heat a little bit.
Marvin
All right, relax.
Paulie
Best doing a league.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Best two man team.
Paulie
Best father, son doing a league, hands down.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
Hold on, let me put my Bronnie James jersey on.
Dan Patrick
That's right. That's right. We got our pick of jerseys. And you know, so like Fritz, he got brunson jersey. Marvin, you got Timberwolves. Oh, no. You got Castle with San Antonio. Paulie got Steph Curry, Bronnie James.
Paulie
Like a misprint.
Seaton
Yeah, that's the number nine right there.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, it is.
Seaton
That's right.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. I have Luca. I have Lucas jersey there. Yeah. Nice. You gotta, gotta get that sign. Seaton. Gotta get it framed. I would.
Seaton
I would get it signed. I would get it framed.
Dan Patrick
Oh, by the way, I got an unbelievable gift in the mail. Now, if I can tell our cameraman Weeks, if he goes out in, you know, past the glass doors on the left, right by the Crappensburg State photo that I have, of course. And it would be right by the Wheel of Punishment. And there it is. There it is. If you're watching on Peacock or NBC Sports Network, John Colby came up with the theme music for SportsCenter. The Da Da da da da da. That is. That's the music sheet. And he signed it. He said, hey, I was watching the show the other day. I thought this would look great on the wall. So he sent me that yesterday. And I've known, you know, John and his wife and family for a long, long time. And nice surprise that I got the Sports center theme music. A sheet of music autographed by John.
Marvin
Yes, Todd, you gotta leave him a voicemail. Thanks a lot.
Mike Florio
Thanks a lot.
Marvin
That's what I would do. That's not bad.
Dan Patrick
I'm gonna give you a bloop on that. I'll take it. Yeah. Hey, thanks for the gift.
Seaton
That was really nice.
Dan Patrick
I loved it.
Marvin
Every thoughtful. Thanks a lot.
Dan Patrick
That's funny, Todd. Thank you, Todd. Poll question for hour two is going to be what?
Seaton
Let's see. We've got three of them up there already.
Dan Patrick
Dan.
Seaton
Thrice poll questions thrice, by the way.
Dan Patrick
People ask me all the time, hey, John Colby came up with the SportsCenter theme song. What's your second favorite John Colby song? And I. I don't have one.
Paulie
You just like his early work.
Dan Patrick
I like his early work. He came up people one hit wonder, maybe. Yes, Todd.
Marvin
So he didn't do the Star wars theme or Rocky or Close Encounters or nothing like that.
Dan Patrick
Nobody did SportsCenter. More importantly, did SportsCenter theme song. Yes.
Paulie
I'm dying to know. Did he get paid up front or did he get paid per. Da da da da da da.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. And I might have asked John this a long time ago, because I think he sold it. The rights to the mothership, I think. I don't know. Yeah, Paulie or Yes.
Seaton
Little known fact about John Colby, he's actually a co composer of the Snow song, Informer.
Paulie
Oh, that's his best work.
Dan Patrick
No, that's not true.
Marvin
I believe that.
Dan Patrick
I would have gone with that. I tried to think of the most.
Seaton
Random song I can think of. Snow Informer.
Dan Patrick
You know, he actually co wrote that. He's been living off those royalties.
Marvin
I want the music sheet today.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Well, John, thank you. Thank you for sending me the sheet music for these sports center themes. Yes.
Marvin
Todd not going to get sued for going D. You know, like Michael Buffer. Certain words and things you can't say and on. On radio or tv.
Dan Patrick
I don't think so.
Marvin
We're okay.
Dan Patrick
I mean, you were. Now, if you're making fun of John, Mothership might come after you.
Marvin
We don't want that.
Dan Patrick
No, because that's where you're going to end up after this show is over.
Marvin
I don't want that kind of heat. I got to keep my opportunities open.
Dan Patrick
I. I don't know how many opportunities you got. I think it's.
Paulie
You have to say it.
Dan Patrick
It's going to be espn.
Marvin
It's gonna go from Dan that to Would you like fries with that?
Dan Patrick
No, no, no, you could not.
Marvin
I probably could not, no.
Dan Patrick
But I. I just feels like Mothership, here I come.
Marvin
I think we have something in a ten and a half in the back. Let me check. Have to be red with a white stripe. Does it need to be red? Because we can order that. Special fee.
Seaton
It would be so interesting because, like, when we all worked at the Mothership before, nobody knew all of this stuff about Todd. He was just kind of a quiet guy who sat in the corner. He really didn't.
Dan Patrick
I mean, we were suspicious. We were, you know, we had thoughts. I don't know.
Seaton
I. Like, he was just.
Dan Patrick
We.
Seaton
It always felt like. I know when we had like our morning meeting, like we used to have there, we would go over the DP3. This is before we talk to you. It was like the early, early meeting.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Seaton
It felt like we were polluting Todd's mind because we would talk about all kinds of random things and he would be like, really? That's a thing that people do?
Dan Patrick
Really?
Seaton
People do this?
Dan Patrick
I'm like, really?
Seaton
And it was like, man, we're really, like, just corrupting this guy. And now over the last 18 years, he's exposed all of this stuff about who Todd really is. It would be so interesting to see him go back to Bristol, walking those hallways with everybody knowing this version of Todd rather than the Previous one?
Marvin
Well, they introduced me, like, to urban dictionary terms and stuff.
Dan Patrick
Like, what is that?
Marvin
That's a thing people do to each other. And they have a name for it, too.
Mike Florio
What?
Dan Patrick
Todd.
Seaton
You ever heard of this? Yeah.
Marvin
That is not a thing. No one has ever done that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yes, Marv.
Marvin
My favorite thing is when somebody says, hey, Marv, one quick question. I'm gonna stop you right there.
Okta Advertiser
Yes.
Marvin
Fritz is really like that.
Mike Florio
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Paulie.
Paulie
I remember my first month working with Todd. Our desks were back to back. And, you know, whenever you get a desk at an office, you fill it with, you know, little things. Paperwork, pictures, whatever, especially if you work in sports. Todd would leave every day and take every single thing off his desk, like he was leaving forever. And he did that the entire time. We're an idiot.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. He had the briefcase, and it was full of, like, media guides. And you would think that somebody got fired and they had to clear out their desk. He took everything off the desk.
Marvin
Back then, there was nothing online. You had something called a cosida book, a college book with all the names.
Dan Patrick
Of the teams and the contacts and book family photos. You had not.
Marvin
I did not. I had a little Bronco helmet thing that you blow up. I put that at the top. Some kind of little soft helmet balloon type thing.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Seaton
Todd said back then things weren't online. Things are online now. Until Todd still has those books. I wouldn't blame the Internet for that.
Marvin
I don't carry around my briefcase anymore. Now it's a backpack. But I had the briefcase and my tuna sandwich and my chips and pretzels and carrot sticks.
Dan Patrick
Let's go. Let's book some guests. But you do take everything home. You clear your desk even today?
Marvin
I do, except for the little knickknacks that I know you like to have in certain spots. I wouldn't think to touch that. It belongs to you.
Dan Patrick
Is that an issue that I put stuff on your desk?
Marvin
It is a little cluttered, if it was up to me. But again, I don't want to burst your bubble. And I know there's an OCD thing going on there. There's a lot of things, Pretty much everything. All I really need is room for my laptop and my book and my water and my phone and my. And my, you know, my notes. But there's, like, all this stuff here that just. I'm kind of drowning in that a little bit.
Dan Patrick
I have ocd.
Tony Robbins
Right.
Marvin
Do you think something would happen, the show would go in a negative direction if we moved something an inch to the left or right or got rid of some of the things that are currently on.
Dan Patrick
Are you asking me to move some stuff?
Marvin
I'd like you to give it some thought. You don't have to decide right now, but I know pretty much every single thing on here, if it was up to me, would not be on my desk.
Dan Patrick
Every single thing.
Marvin
Except for this Bronco thing. But even that I would put somewhere else.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Marvin
There's nothing mean. I'm not trying to stir something up, but it's. I have less desk room because of things that I don't even look at. I navigate around in the course of my day.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but this is content. It's a TV show as well. And I'm trying to show some interesting things.
Marvin
I appreciate that. But the stress of knowing that one wrong move or if I get up a certain way and I knock something over, that's going to be much worse than whether it's actually on my desk or not. Want to break anything? I'm frightened. I can speak for all of us. That something would move 2 inches to the left and you'll notice it. And then we get a whole talking to. No one needs that. Yes, I talked to you in the back. You're going to tell me what a great job I did. Now just come back. We don't want to.
Seaton
My studio, Todd. I put the stuff where it goes.
Marvin
Yeah, that's fair. And that's why you get to taste the meat before we do. Because you're the host. You get to eat the wagyu.
Dan Patrick
Wait, hold on. What are we doing now?
Paulie
Oh, the airing of the grievances.
Dan Patrick
What are we doing?
Marvin
I wouldn't mind if the rest of us had a little snack before 11:30. But you're the host. You get to do it. You're trying it out first to make sure it's not poison.
Dan Patrick
See, you open the door and then you tell me what you really.
Marvin
Yeah, everything comes out. Now. I'm the host.
Tony Robbins
I eat first.
Marvin
You guys will wait. And then we treat the guys in.
Dan Patrick
The back like that.
Marvin
We're gonna eat, and then you guys in the back will be last. At least we're second.
Dan Patrick
I gotta put up with you for a week in San Francisco.
Marvin
It's gonna be rough for you. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. Are we sitting on the same. No, you get the first.
Dan Patrick
No, I'm not on your flight.
Marvin
I mean, 3A. What do you got? 3B.
Dan Patrick
No, no, I'd rather walk.
Marvin
You would rather walk?
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Marvin
I know you would.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Paul.
Paulie
The other day on Monday, I noticed Todd's shot on tv. There's this gold thing sticking into his chin area. I said, can you move that over like 3 inches? He goes, I don't know if I should do that. And I said, I'll give you the okay. It's just in the shot. He goes, I hope nobody notices.
Marvin
As I was moving it, the shaking and the petrified. I'm like, moving it. I'm like, does he see me doing that? Please don't tell me he sees me doing that.
Seaton
That's what's actually interesting about. This actually originates with Paul being unhappy with what's on Todd's desk. So now Todd's getting in trouble. Cause Paul pushed him into this segment about being like, hey, you need to move that stuff.
Mike Florio
And he didn't fall for that over.
Seaton
And over and over again.
Marvin
He assigned me to move it. He said, if it's bothering you, just move it.
Dan Patrick
I.
Marvin
You should move it.
Dan Patrick
He looks up.
Marvin
I'd rather him see you moving it.
Dan Patrick
Why don't you move it then?
Seaton
It's not bothering me.
Odoo Advertiser
You do it.
Dan Patrick
We done?
Marvin
For now. As you were. Back to you in the studio.

Before we get to Belichick, I had a problem with Sean Payton revealing medical information about Bo Nix. Bo Nix certainly had a problem with it. Your thoughts? When you heard Sean Payton talking about previous surgeries with Bo Nix's ankle, I.
Mike Florio
Was surprised that he did, but I'm not surprised when Sean Payton says something that ruffles feathers. Whether it's with the jets or with whoever. Sean Payton tends to say what he says, and then he'll deal with the fallout later. But with Bo Nix, it definitely seemed to be an issue. Bo Nix apparently called his own press conference to address the situation. And I did think it was funny when Peyton said he had surgery here, here, here, whatever. And Bo Nick says he doesn't know anything about the surgeries. I was like, bo, he knows everything about every surgery you've ever had because he scouted you and drafted you. And everybody gets all that information. So they know. But it does seem to be a little something going on between Peyton and Bo Nix. And fortunately, they have some time to smooth things over before they get back.
Dan Patrick
To work, go to neutral corners. The hall of Fame feels the need to issue a press release. Why?
Mike Florio
Well, I don't know, Dan. And it's funny, I was on radio in Seattle when the press release came out, and they said to me, oh, we've just gotten a statement from the hall of Fame. And I thought it was a bit like, okay, yeah. And then I said, no, it's real. I thought, oh, my God, they're putting Belichick in. Like, why? Why would you issue a statement? And then when I saw the statement, like, what is. What is this about? They're threatening to strip the voting privileges from 50 people who don't get paid, who spend hours every year. It's a vanity license plate. I mean, it really is. Nobody's getting a job because they're a Pro Football hall of Fame voter. Nobody is holding onto their job because, oh, I'm a Hall of Fame voter. It's just something you can, you know, talk to your friends and family about. And, hey, I'm a. I'm a Pro Football hall of Fame voter, and you don't get anything for it other than a hassle. And now they're threatening to take it away because of some vague failure to comply with the bylaws. And I just posted something a little while ago. Dan. The best I can tell is they're not pleased with what Armando Salguero said to you yesterday about what went on in the room. Because I got the bylaws, I found them, had somebody send them to me. There's a specific clause in there that says you have to maintain strict confidence about anything that is said in the meeting, so you're not allowed to talk about it. But this process has put people in a difficult position where fans, media, those of us who weren't in the room, we want to know what the hell happened to lead to this result. So I thought the whole thing was a mistake by the hall of Fame. It doesn't surprise me because the hall of Fame created this mess that now the 50 voters have to deal with.
Dan Patrick
Okay, but how do they change this? As one of the voters told me on Wednesday morning, we know the system is flawed. We have to change it. What are they going to change it to, Dan?
Mike Florio
Here's the easiest fix. They just need to go back to an up or down vote for the finalists. That's how it used to be. And Vijay Gregorian, who posted at the Kansas City Star website, his reasoning for not voting for Belichick.
Dan Patrick
He said, wait a minute, hold on, Mike. Go back to. It's just a thumbs up or thumbs down. There was. There was no.
Mike Florio
It used to. It used to be. Well, no, I mean, you. You voted secretly, but it used to be when you had your pool of finalists, they would go through each one. Once we got down to the actual finalists, whatever it was, five, eight, however many it would be, up or down, we vote yes or no. And if you got 80% of the vote, okay, currently with 50 voters, you get 40, you're in. So via Gregorian, who didn't vote for Belichick, wrote in his column, if it was just a straight yes or no for Bill Belichick, yes, I'm voting for Bill Belichick. He should be in. But they've created this weird thing, and I'll try to be as concise as possible to the extent that I even understand it. They have five people jammed into the same bucket. And for this year, it was Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, L.C. greenwood, Ken Anderson, and Roger Craig. Three from the seniors committee, contributor nominee, craft coaching nominee, Belichick. Five of them. You pick three, you don't do up or down for each one. Every voter picks three. And Gregorian's explanation is, well, for these three senior committees, this is their only shot. These guys, Greenwood, Anderson and Craig, this is it for them. If they don't get in now, they're never getting in. So he voted for them because his thinking is Belichick's going to get in next year. So that process that has changed what used to be yes or no, up or down, that makes it harder for the finalists to get in. And it's why we saw a smaller class last year of whoever was in that bucket last year. Sterling Sharp was the only one who got in. They all should have a straight up or down vote. It shouldn't be this weird. Pick three out of five and then we'll see who gets 80%.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, because if you get to the point where the contributor and the coach are getting in and then you have three players that survive to get to this point, and as the voters said, you know, you got five candidates that are worthy and now we got to pick three out of the five and they have to get 80, 80%. It's just a flawed system. Why not put all five in? If you got one from that category, one from that category, and three former players.
Mike Florio
Here's my theory, Dan. I think that the hall of Fame was sensitive to criticism from people like Deion Sanders that too many people are getting in. But raising the bar when you've already had a bar here, it's not fair to the next class of candidates to say, oh, oh, we're raising the bar higher. Even though we've put all these other people in under a different standard, we're now raising the bar higher. The only solution to Deon's concern, and we've been advocating this for three years now, create an upper room of the hall of Fame, the best of the best. We have a running list that we post every year at the time the hall of Fame enshriment ceremony happens, updated whether or not there's any new ones this year that are the no brainer mic drop these guys are in. And the, the sad part about this is Belichick would be on that list. He's a no brainer Mike drop, best of the best, and he couldn't get through the door the first time around. That's what I think makes this so frustrating to most People.
Dan Patrick
But if you were going to pinpoint the biggest reason why Belichick is not going into the hall of Fame this year, it's what?
Mike Florio
Well, people don't like him. I think that's it there. People don't like him. He's a jerk. Is that a surprise? But I think we need to be able to compartmentalize. He's one of the greatest coaches of all time. And the fact that he is a jerk, objectively speaking or subjectively speaking, my opinion, he's a jerk. Others have that opinion. That's part of what made him great. He'd rip into Tom Brady in front of the meeting room and scare the hell out of everybody. And they'd all, we better. We better do our jobs or we're not going to have jobs. So he's clearly one of the greatest coaches of all time. And I think it's easy to find. Find reasons if you don't like someone, if you're looking for a reason. Oh, it's Spygate. Oh, he needs to sit out of here because of Spygate or, you know, whatever else they want to throw. Oh, look at his. Look at his record without Tom Brady. Look at his record with Tom Brady. Tom Brady made Bill Belichick. Like you can come up with any reason. And people just subjectively don't like certain people. And I think that when you have a unreasonably secret process where no one's allowed, it's like a papal conclave. I mean, come on, why. Why isn't it transparent? When you take away transparency, people can hide behind all sorts of things and then they just. And you don't even have to vote no. That's one of the other problems with this process. Oh, I didn't vote against Bill Belichick. I just didn't vote for him. I never said no to Bill Belichick. So I think. I think. And I'll defer to Armando because he presented him and he told you yesterday, Spygate seemed to be the reason. But I think that. I think it was just at least 11 of the 50 didn't like him, and so they sunk their teeth into anything they could to justify it.
Dan Patrick
Mike Florio, PRO Football Talk LIVE co host what does this mean for Tom Brady when he comes, becomes eligible?
Mike Florio
I don't think it means anything. Tom Brady should be a mic drop, no brainer, first ballot, upper room hall of Famer. And he's in a different category. See, he'll be in the modern era player category. That ultimately gets down to 15 when they start the meeting and then they cut it to 10 and then they cut it to seven. And I think you vote for five of the seven, just same ideas. The other thing we talked about and you have to get 80% on the five of the seven and I don't know, is somebody going to say, well, you know, Brady's definitely going to get in. I'll vote for somebody else instead. So they need to get back to up or down. And if it's a straight up or down vote, I mean, who would vote no to Tom Brady? Deflategate was a small blip on the radar screen and I think it was overblown. I think the evidence should have been deemed to be inconclusive. And I think the whole idea of, of treating this objective weird, it's always been in the rule book. Range of air pressure, who the hell cares? We want him to be able to throw the football. Who cares how much airs in the damn football. So I think that shouldn't matter. And I, and I also think that Brady will benefit from this controversy. They'll be even more careful when Brady's up to not step in this pile of crap again.
Dan Patrick
I brought this up, I brought it up a couple of times. Now I know Brady lied to the commissioner. That's why he got in trouble. Aaron Rodgers told me that he over inflated footballs. Nobody brought up, labeled him a cheater.
Mike Florio
Yeah, Dan, this numbers just pulled out a thin air. It's the number. It's, it's the recommended inflation from Wilson 12.5 to 13.5. I remember when this first happened, my wife was saying, well, what's going on with these footballs? It's like, well, Patriots are in trouble because they, they, they supposedly took out of the footballs. Well, why'd they do that? Well, because it makes it easier to hold the football. Well, what does that do? What makes it easier to throw the football? Well, isn't that what they want? Like, like, don't we. The whole thing is just bizarre. And it was, and it's been reported over and over again. This was. We didn't hit them hard enough for Spygate. And there was a cabal of owners and others in the league that wanted another pound of flesh out of the New England Patriots. And the weird part about it is that one didn't stick to Belichick at all. He managed to push that whole thing over to Brady. So the only thing they really have on Belichick is spygate from 1990 years ago. And if you just, if you throw away 2007 and prior, everything since then is still more than enough for him to walk into the hall of Fame on the first try.
Dan Patrick
And I don't know if Robert Kraft is getting in. I'm still amazed that he's not in when you look at his resume. Why? Why has he been held outside the pearly gates?
Mike Florio
Well, if Jerry Jones is in, Robert Kraft is in. It's that simple. Now, Robert Kraft is trying to get in under this new, flawed process, and I won't be surprised if he didn't get in. I know there are some out there thinking that Robert Kraft has this grand conspiracy where he's going to keep Belichick out and he's going to get himself in. I think it'll be hard for any of those five to get in. It may just be one at the end of the day, of the five like last year, that get to 80%. But the problem with the hall of Fame is there are too many worthy candidates. And the process entails. It's not apples to apples. I mean, it's apples to oranges, to car batteries, to, you know, I mean, it's you. It's impossible to compare all the different positions, all the different contributions, and it's all funneled into this log jam that's almost impossible to bust out of. So it's a very imperfect process. As highlighted by everything we've seen and.
Dan Patrick
Heard the past two days, Eli Manning reportedly will have to wait another year. Your thoughts?
Mike Florio
Well, it doesn't surprise me because of the current process and because beyond those two years when they went to the super bowl and won it, and look, he. He had two of the biggest moments in super bowl history, two of the greatest throws. The throw to Mario Manningham in Super Bowl 46 is not nearly as. As remembered as it should be. That saved the game for the Giants that day. And obviously we know about the Tyree throw, but, you know, when you look at the balance of his career, you look at his numbers, all the stuff that people get rightfully caught up in when it's time to compare careers. Was he truly one of the best of his era that deserve it? I mean, there's a lot of great quarterbacks from his era, so it doesn't surprise me. It's taken him a couple of tries. Will he get in one of these days? I. I think so. I think he should be there. Jim Plunkett's the only starting quarterback with two super bowl wins who hasn't made it. Phil Sims has two super bowl wins, but obviously he didn't play in Super Bowl 25. Roethlisberger's got two. He'll presumably get in, but yeah, I think Eli should be in. But it doesn't surprise me. It's going to take a little while for him to get there.
Dan Patrick
Philip Rivers get bumped back another year because he came out of retirement?
Mike Florio
No, no, Dan. The moment that he landed on the active roster for the Indianapolis Colts, his five year clock reset. He's got to wait five years for consideration.
Dan Patrick
He could have five more kids by then.
Mike Florio
Well, I may be head coach of an NFL team by then, too. I guess that could help his candidacy, but, you know, I don't. Look, I think Philip Rivers was a great quarterback and it was a great story this year.
Dan Patrick
But Mike, Mike Tomlin is. He can be eligible next year for the hall of Fame, Correct?
Mike Florio
Right.
Dan Patrick
Wow. So coaches one year.
Mike Florio
Coaches now have to be out one year. And the problem is there's already a logjam of coaches. Mike Holmgren should be in. Mike Shanahan should be in. Now Mike Tomlin is going to be in the mix and there's a separate committee that serves up one candidate. One. So who's going to be next year? Is it going to be Tomlin? Is it going to be Belichick? Are they going to decide? Well, you know what? If they're not going to put Belichick in, maybe we don't put him up there. I think given the blowback and the reaction, I think Belichick sails in next year. I think it's a no brainer. The only question, Dan, ponder this. Michael Hawley made this point yesterday. Will he show up at the ceremony when he gets in or will he do what Terrell Owens did and do his own thing on that day that he joins the rest of the Immortals in Canton?
Dan Patrick
Maybe sends his girlfriend?
Mike Florio
I wouldn't.
Dan Patrick
She might give a better speech than him.
Mike Florio
Well, she'll definitely be the one who presents him. Now I'd put my money on that if and if and when he gets in and when he gets in. But I could see him being mad enough about this that he wouldn't show up. I still think he has a sufficient appreciation of NFL and football history that he would not refuse to show up. But I think he'd at least think about it.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Mike, as always. We appreciate it. We'll see you in San Francisco.
Mike Florio
Thanks, Dan. Good talking to you, bud.
Dan Patrick
Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk Live co host and contributor to Football Night in America yeah, I didn't think of that. That. Does Belichick say Hey, I'm not showing up. I'll hold my own sort of celebratory day, give a speech to the people that really matter most to me. I'd still, I'd, I'd send my girlfriend. She'll bring a flamethrower. That'd be awesome. All right, take a break. Phone calls coming up. Charles Barkley at the top of the hour. Back after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Them here for you. The biggest storyline heading into this the big game Rematch of Big Game 49 Sam Darnold's redemption, Patriots turnaround or other. Right now Sam Darnold's redemption has about 64 of that vote and we'll talk.
Dan Patrick
To Sam about that tomorrow.
Seaton
We also have more of an underdog. Seahawks or patriots? Patriots at 82 winning that one. And then whose career would you want? This one's from Paul, Eli Manning or Drew Brees? Drew Brees has 55% of that vote.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I would take Drew Brees. I'd take Drew Brees because nobody is saying, you know, is he a Hall of Famer or not? And probably a first ballot hall of Famer. Eli's going to get in. But when you factor in Eli had two great months of high quality football in his career, but that's probably going to be enough to get into the Super Bowl.
Marvin
Yeah, Mark and Drew Brees won with the Saints. That's almost like Indiana football winning the national title.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Paul.
Paulie
Yeah, Drew Brees's super bowl win feels like a win and a half. You might think that some people would pick Eli with the two, but Breeze's Career is almost really underrated if you look at his regular season stats.
Dan Patrick
Jeff in Detroit. Hi, Jeff.
Jeff
5, 5 2, 25. Checking in in a long time.
Mike Florio
What up?
Jeff
Doden and the fellas. Man, I miss you guys. A lot has been going on. I got a couple of comments and a question for you, Dan. First of all, if it was me and I was a New England Patriot, I would put on a free Belichick shirt right about now. That guy has done more for football than any coach that I can think of as a guy who has not even sniffed championship. So, yeah, he's in a Hall of Fame detention. People, you were saying earlier about the Greek freak and people posing him to go to certain places, they propose him to come here to Detroit. But in one thing that I know, you have to have three Cs coaching, chemistry and culture. And we got that right now and we got Jalen Duran. So I'm good on all of that. My question to you, Dan, is outside of Seattle, in New England this past NFL season, what was your pleasant surprise and what was your biggest disappointment? I know for me it was my Lions and the damn Bears, man. I mean, that secret sauce that boy got over there is something else.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I would, I would say the Lions because it feels like they're now getting further and further away. You don't make the playoffs, you start to look at the Bears. The packers are still going to be formidable. Maybe the Vikings get it right. So I, I would say the Lions not being in the playoffs, pleasant surprises. Well, we've taken New England out of that. Carolina, I have to give them some credit. I know it's not a good division, but I mean, they made the playoffs. I know losing record, it just, you know, that, that kind of stayed with me for a little while, that they, they were in games and maybe they found something there. And maybe, you know, I want to see another year with Bryce Young. I'm not going to give him $200 million. I'd like to see another year or two. Sean in Oregon. Hi, Sean, welcome back.
Jeff
Hey, thanks for taking my call, Dan. You know, there's only five coaches that made it in first ballot and Don Shula did not upset the commissioner and he didn't screw up an undefeated season by losing to a 10, 6 wild card team called the New York Giants. Have a great day, you guys.
Dan Patrick
All right, thank you. Sean.
Seaton
Is that the case for him not being first ballot?
Dan Patrick
I guess made the commissioner mad and lost that and he lost to the Giants. It's open season. Right.
Seaton
So maybe we're looking at it. It sort of cuts both ways. Like Bill Belichick was so great that he's pulling Eli Manning up into the hall of Fame. And Eli Manning was so bad that he actually made Bill Belichick a not first ballot hall of Famer.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, you got to make up your mind is that oh my God, Eli beat you twice for a Super bowl or hey, you beat Belichick, you should be in the hall of Fame. Either way you're looking at Belichick. And Belichick is because you lost to Eli, beat you twice, that all of a sudden those Super Bowls count for more. Yes, Marvin.
Marvin
Well, I think we're missing Michael Strahan, OCU Minor, Justin Tug, Chris Canty. Those guys had a little something to do with the wins.
Dan Patrick
