There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond and left a woman behind to drown. Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control. Every week we go behind the headlines and beyond the drama of America's royal family. Listen to United States of Kennedy on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Bob Crawford, host of American History Hotline, a different type of podcast. You, the listener, ask the questions. Did George Washington really cut down a cherry tree? Were JFK and Marilyn Monroe having an affair? And I find the answers. I am so glad you asked me this question. This is such a ridiculous story. You can listen to American History Hotline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Ian Pfaff, the creator and host of the Uncle Chris podcast. My Uncle Chris was a real character, a garbage truck driver from South Carol who is now buried in Panama City alongside the founding families of Panama. He also happens to be responsible for the craziest night of my life. Wild stories about adventure, romance, crime, history and war intertwine as I share the tall tales and hard truths that have helped me understand Uncle Chris. Listen now to Uncle Chris on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant for my heart. Podcasts and Rococo Punch this is the Turning River Road in the woods of Minnesota. A little just, just from so much baseball. And now it's, now it's go time. Like all Star break is always, they always say it's a halfway point, but it's not. There's like 60 games left. It's, it's, we're getting down. It's go time. Showtime to the nitty gritty. Remember, speaking of baseball, be part of History on August 2nd at the MLB Speedway Classic as the Braves take on the Reds at the iconic Bristol Motor Speedway. For the first time ever, MLB's hosting a regular season game in the state of Tennessee. A game of horseshoes? No, a game of baseball in Tennessee. Tennessee. Tennessee. Gates open early for full day music, food, games and fan experiences, including a concert stage headline by Jake Owen, who's fantastic live. He's so good live. So tickets are going fast and available right now@mlb.com Speedway Classic. And I think if baseball ever does expand, Nashville's got to be the spot. Right? Nashville. So let's get back to, let's wrap this up. We'll move on to some NFL. But our final thoughts and the swing off to end the All Star game last night, it was awesome. And there's always going to be people that bitch and complain like, like you said you had buddies. I'm like, it's gimmicky. I had a friend that his first statement on our group chat was like, this is stupid. I'm like, you're stupid. I really found it to be exciting, but I didn't like the fact that because Dave Roberts mismanaged we're in this situation. That's how I felt about it. But they put these rules in place for a reason. I get it. And it was the first time we've ever seen a swing off. Hold on now. Did. Did he mismanage? Because if there's a rule for a swing off, then he Mitch managed nothing. Burned through all his pictures. But if the MLB's put rules in place for swing off, he, Mitch, he mismanaged nothing. I'm not a fan of that. But they have to figure out who wins this game. You got all these fans there waiting and you keep saying he mismanaged nothing. Because if there is, I personally think he did because he kept his arms fresh. Right? To get to that point to give Aaron fan to give every player. Aaron Boone kept people on reserve in case they needed. He was still ready to go. But there's no in case because it goes to a swing off. If this offended fan of it. If this still affected the World Series, then I would say mismanaged. But I do like the end result because the swing off was exciting. And then our first question as fans is like, well, why did they choose these batters? There's no mismanaging because if it goes to. I feel he did. If it goes to burnt through his pitchers and it went extra innings, it would have went extra innings. If it goes to a tie game and they burn through the pitchers, there's a swing off. Dude, as a fan, I don't like it. I'm telling you, I'm allowed to feel that way. I'm not the only guy. Because Rich says so doesn't make it true. I'm just telling you, I don't like how he managed it because that's not fair to Aaron Boone. Then you know what? Aaron Boone should have just put fresh arms in the games. Oh, Aaron Boone, good comeback. He should have had fresh games too. But you're making no sense. If he was going to burn through his pitchers, Aaron Boone should have burned through his pitchers. But if there's no penalty for burning through your pitchers because they so assumed that they were going to win this game. That Dave Roberts, Willy Nilly. There you go. That's probably why you enjoy it, because that's how you roll in life. Just started throwing people into the game instead of trying to really manage the game. He was just like, hey, get it. What do the fans want to see? Everyone get a chance, right? Because look, it turned out. But I didn't find that to be fair for the AL and Aaron Boom I. I just didn't. I'm not saying he broke rules. I'm saying in reality, I feel he mismanaged it. But it's so ridiculous. It led to a swing off. Think what you want and shove it up. Yay. But you're missing the point. Mismanaging would mean there's a penalty. I'm not trying to make it clear for you. I think people understand. They think you're an idiot. Okay, you know what? Let's take the phone call. Who's the idiot? The bonehead who thinks he's always right and he's wrong, but he often thinks he's right. You can't 7799 on Fox or. Really, why did he burn through the pitchers? You know why? Because they thought they had the game in the bag. And. And that's why. And also. And they did it. And also because there's no penalty if they did. I get that. But we've never gotten to this point. Well, I'm very. I bet you Aaron Boone would have put more pitchers in if he was in the business of sort of mismanaging. So because of that, it's forced into a swing off. Am I mad at that? No, because it was awesome. I don't like the end result, but it was awesome. And as a fan, you're like, wait a second. Swing off. Why is Kyle Stowers and Aranda in this? You know what? And Randy Rosarena. Because it was pre selected, but I didn't know that at the time. I found out later on. Oh, so they pre selected it. Probably never thinking it was going to matter anyway. Yeah. So it's kind of like when you're on a plane. Here's my understanding. When you're on a plane and you're in the exit row and you're like, hey, man, in case of emergency, you're in the exit row. Are you good with. And you're like, yeah, yeah, whatever. Yeah. I raised my hand, going through the motion. Yeah. You take out one airpod and you're like, yes, yes. I'm in the exit row. Yes. Yeah. They, prior to the game, say, hey, if this goes extra innings into a swing off, are you willing to do a derby action? Hey, Schwarber, you want to do this? Yeah, yeah, whatever. Because you're assuming it's never going to happen. Sounds like. Sounds like Aaron Boone mismanaged that part. Not really. But there's a lot of people wondering, well, why wasn't Judge in it? Why wasn't Ohtani in it? You know, Danny G Had the best suggestion of all. And social media was also buzzing about the fact. Why not just have the people that participated in the Home Run Derby be the guys on standby here in case this happens? Because it intertwines the derby ties it all. The actual game, yeah, it wraps it up perfectly. It's like, well, these are the derby guys. Well, these are the guys that are going to be participating in case a swing off happens. But no, you got Brent Rooker and Star wars. And it wasn't even supposed to be Stowers from Miami. It was supposed to be Eugenio Suarez, but he got hurt. At least Rooker was in the derby. And then he went on to hit two homers out of the three chances. Rosa Rayna and Schwarber and Aranda and Pete Alonzo, I guess, was the anchor. I just can't imagine. I can't imagine why Aaron Judge wouldn't be one of Boone's three guys unless he was scared to do it. Or Boone mismanaged and said, it doesn't matter, I won't need him. But there's a big rumor going around that so many of these starters, once they got pulled, some of them left the ballpark, some went and hung in the clubhouse. Some went to hang with their families, which I really don't care about. It's the All Star Game. It's an exhibition. But. But people speculate, but they showed school. He looked like he was ready to go out clubbing. So when you, you know, when you're in the All Star Game and there are no stakes really, other than just your entertain the fans and it's a fun night of celebrating your sport. Like, there's rumors, pride on the line. No one wants to embarrass themselves. It's the All Star Game. A lot of people are watching. But I. But I think they're still ultimate competitors. But Ohtani, there's big rumors that he wasn't even in the stadium. Do you have a problem with that or not really? I do, yeah, kind of. But I also get. It's probably standard for something like that. And you also have to keep in mind what did we learn from being on the field and watching all the fanfare and the media? It's like, you know, a guy like Ohtani probably just has to get out early or else he's there until 3am they were tired, just like you guys, from a long week in Atlanta and wanted to get back to the hotel. Don't blame me if I left early. Ohtani left early. In our defense, we're not in the game, dude. My bro. I don't know if you know my. My bro Shohei hit me up. He's like, I'm leaving. Are you? I'm like, yeah, sure. Yeah, me too. Shohei Hotel. Hey, you know what? I hear a lot of people on social media right now speculating dogging us for leaving early. Guys, we were super pumped to be there. No one was more excited than us. We were exhausted. And if you really want to know, we didn't have seats. We did have credentials that got us to really cool places, as we discussed, and we're really grateful for that, but we didn't have actual seats. So it's like, I'm just walking around trying to get a view. Let's go back and watch the game. Then we had access to a lot of cool places, but no actual seat, which is. I'm reading some really raw feedback. Look at this Jabroni Bubba hating on us cuz we left early. It's like, hey, dude, we were working so long. All work. I use work, you know, with quotes, air quotes. Because we have fun doing what we do. Yeah, but we really had to get back. We had other work. I mean, the truth is. And we didn't have anywhere to sit. It's not like we left the playoff game early or we left a concert before the encore. It's not like the people that left. It's not like the people that left the Gibson, the Kir. Yeah, it's not like this people. We're not the people that left the. The Heat Spurs. I'm gonna tweet that out from FSR's account right now. Covino and Rich are brake lights. But. But we did miss. I'm not gonna, like, downplay it. We did miss history and something awesome and something I wish I could tell my grandkids one day when I'm feeding the ducks. You know, kids, the first time, the first ever swing off Grandpa was in Atlanta. I was there. No, we could have lied. Honestly, we could have lied and said, hey, guys, while we were there, let's go to a couple phone calls and then we'll talk about how it all culminated. I want to hear how it was from inside Truest Field because Danny G. Said the crowd erupted with this in excitement. So I want to hear. Let's go to Stephen in Virginia Beach. What's up, Steven? Hey, Steve. Hey, good morning, fellas. What's up, Steven? He man. So why is saving arm when there's no possibility of extra innings? He mismanaged. That's what? Our buddy Matt Minnesota. Our buddy Matt in Minnesota hit us up going Covino is so off on this. You can't imagine your personal buddy who's hitting you up. Oh, really? Well, listen, I'm telling you, he's not your friend in Minnesota. No, I don't like Matt in Minnesota. I like everyone that agrees with me and I'll read their comments in a minute. You can't define mismanagement when it's not mismanaged. So. Okay, but yeah, Boone, no, because Roberts just assumed they were going to win. That's really it. But I mean, when you can't, we're never going to see eye to eye on something. You can't mismanage something when there's no repercussion. Right. I wasn't vibing with it at that point. I was like, well, that doesn't seem fair. It's not Aaron Boone's fault. It's Roberts. Try to get every arm in there, give everyone a chance. I guess, I don't know. That's. That was my first instinct. Let's go to Kevin Culver City. What's up, Kevin? What's up fellas? Hey, can't, couldn't be better guys to do the show this morning. I mean, I was over the moon watching the game last night. It was incredible. You know, you got all the major sports trying to figure out how to, you know, do the all Star games, NBA, Pro bowl and Major League Baseball. Got it right. I mean, swing off, it felt like showmanship. It was like the show and the biggest like box office type of show that you could want. You got Kyle Schorber winning it on the swing off. And I like, I don't like in the Home Run Derby, guys, because you don't get Schwaber, you don't get Alonzo to close it out. I mean, two of the biggest home run hitters in the league going, you know, you know, backing up each other in a swing off. And I just, I can't imagine, and I know it will never happen, but I'm crazy to say it in the World series. Setting Ohtani vs Judge in a swing off for a World Series. It was exciting. The theatrics were incredible. I'm so glad Kev brought that up because on the shuttle ride back when the game was over, all of the people were buzzing about they, they should end regular season extra inning games like this. Forget that automatic runner on second. I heard several people saying that out loud and maybe they were just caught in them up in the moment. But I heard that from several fans that were there. Well, the game is based nowadays a lot on the home run. It's exciting. Yeah, it's like a. It's like an NBA slam dunk or a far three pointer or let's be honest, like a deep pass in the NFL, a pick six. Like it's the excitement of the home run. And I will say I feel a little bad for Polar Bear Pete Alonzo, because I agree with you there. He, he was, he was going to be your mvp and then he was one for two with three rbi. Big bomb, you know, he was definitely your MVP of the game. And he was the anchor of the swing off. Never got a shot. So if, if. Let's just say it was tied, right? Let's say the dude on who was the last guy wasn't even like a big star. I mean, he was an all star, but who was the guy that hit zero? Aranda? Yeah, it was a Rhonda around the. If he would have hit Seattle. If he would have hit. It's not that he's not a big star. He's an all star. He just only has 11 home runs. Second to last hit came close and then his third strike did. Dude, he came inches away. But I'm saying if he hits one and it's tied, I think if Pete Alonso just hits one and he walks it off and he should have been the mvp. He's the MVP because of the game. I think. I think if Alonzo would have just hit one. That's what I'm saying. I had a bunch of thoughts and a bunch of feelings because three players from each team, three swings from each player, teams alternate team with the most home run wins the All Star Game, right? And I'm like, man, this is wild. The whole thing was so cool to see. Let's say hi to Garth. Garth, you're on in Washington. What's up, man? Hey, what's going on, fellas? Hey, I just want to talk about number one. So this last night, it felt like a shootout in a hockey game or a soccer game. So. So it's sweet, man. You know, that's one of the coolest things in sports. You know, if you're in a World cup final or something and they go to a shootout, man, you're. Everybody's on the edge of their seat. So that's kind of how I felt watching this last night. And number two, I want to. Just want to talk about Aaron Boone. I guess I didn't realize that they predetermined the lineup but, man, how do you not let Judge and Cal Riley swing off if they're still there, man? Like that's. These are the thoughts we all had watching it. So I'm trying to express what I was thinking at the time. Raleigh and Joe, they were having a steak down the block to pretend that everybody knew these rules. Everyone's full of baloney like Rich, because nobody knew that they had these things predetermined. Unless you're Tim Kirk Shin or Jeff Passon. Because I didn't know that and I'm a baseball fan since it was predetermined and the managers have been around these games before, maybe they know Judge isn't still going to be around. Ohtani is going to be in his limo by then. And that's one of the factors in why they picked who they picked. That's another point, Danny G. But here's where I actually agree with Rich. Again, first instinct. We're watching from the bar. What Kyle Schwerber did, three pitches, three home runs in that high pressure moment. He even admitted it was a high pressure moment was amazing. And how he went down and scooped up that last home run on a knee like you mentioned, Danny G. That was insane. Yeah. But for him to win the MVP for that, I really do have a problem with that. I don't think he was the MVP because he had no hits in the game. This is like a separate portion of the game, in my opinion. This is just my opinion. Relax. So not you, Danny G. I'm saying everybody who's like, dude. And then he gets MVP for hitting three meatballs. Pete Alonzo hit a three run blast in the game. Legitimate pitcher off a legitimate pitcher. So yeah, Kyle Schwaber is a hero. Yeah, it was incredible. I don't want to take anything away because he made it look easy. Dude, it was highly impressive. I get it. But he's the MVP for that. He had three meatballs for home runs. Yeah, it was a big moment. But Pete alonzo, still the MVP in my opinion. Yeah. Dave DeMarco tweeted out this morning, Kyle Schwaber's bat has to be on the way to Cooperstown. The first ever perfect round in a swing off to win an All Star game. Yeah, it was cool. It was high pressure. So cool. Guys, don't, don't. Yeah. Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying, but I still think that Alonzo still should have got the mvp. Yeah, that's how I. That's just how I felt because I'm like that was just how you decided the winner. That wasn't really part of the game, was it? Or I guess we just have to look at it differently. Look, it's the first time we ever experienced it. These are the things I was thinking. I did feel for Pete Alonzo, even though, you know, he's had his moments, he's good. This is what, fifth All Star Game, and it's wild to see guys like him. Are the veterans rich nowadays? Yeah. He was saying that when he was miked up, how it's a great mix of young players and veterans. I just wanted to point out one thing, because there are going to be people that say Aaron Boone had rally and judge, and there's sluggers. Ohtani, that didn't do it. Leaving a game early. I'm not going to get down on them. It's an All Star Game. Then again, there are fans there watching in person and on tv. But I think it's one of those scenarios that we've all been through in life where you don't really think something's going to happen, so you don't prepare for it. Like, I'll give you one, and I hate to say it because we're all flying today, but you know, when they're like, there might be turbulence and someone doesn't put their seatbelt on and then they might, you know, spill their drink or bump their head or something, or you leave. How do you use that example? Yeah. Thanks for putting that out there. You'll leave the house two flights today. Appreciate it. You'll leave the house, right? And you're like, you know what? I'm wearing flip flops and I didn't comb my hair. I'm not going to bump into anyone. And then you bump into, like, your high school sweetheart or so, you know, like, what's the chance? You always do the what's the chances? And I think Ohtani is probably in his limo. Like, what's the chances? Oh, I would. Oh, dude. Don't you think because of how this all played out, that might change moving forward? Yeah. I mean, the bigger stars may think twice about doing what they used to do. Yeah, absolutely. And I. And I think that now this may be a stretch, too, but things like the Savannah Bananas, where they lean into the entertainment side of things and they do goofy things and they're willing to try other things, you know, sort of. Even though this was a decided thing a while ago, I feel like baseball's feeding off of those fun, theatrical antics. And it works sometimes. Some of the changes they've made are working. And that was one they made a few years back that actually works. Oh, yeah. We didn't even talk about ABS and how they use that last night in a strike. A ball call was overturned for a strikeout. And the reaction of Edwin Diaz when he's like, no, no, no. I think that caught the corner and like, yeah, it did. Strike three. Very cool. Yeah, very cool to see. By the way, do you mind if that were incorporated in the regular season? If each team got. What would be the limit, you think? The balls and strike challenge, because you can't have too many because then it sort of slows the game, but probably needs to be like three because they're real quick. It's like tap on the helmet and you find out within five seconds. So I think three a game is not crazy, right? I mean, who's opposed to it? Innovate or die, right? You gotta, you gotta evolve. The guy in the light, the guy in the market. Why is baseball the sport where it's. It's bad to evolve? You have to. In today's world. Who's Malibu Ken again? Boot can. Kyle Stowers. Yeah, Stowers. You saw he did the tap and, and it just caught it for strength. And he's like, ah. So I, I think it's a. I think it's cool. I think it's dramatic. He wasn't supposed to be in the swing off. Like I said, it was Eugenio Suarez. So again, a guy that stepped up. He probably said, yeah, I do it if you need me. But you know, I think that was a pressure filled situation. Props again to Kyle Schwaber. Not trying to take anything away. Maybe the people that volunteered, but I do think Pete Alonso got hosed of that. Maybe the people that volunteered. Also on the flip, you know, saying guys like Ohtani and Judge, like, yeah, what's the chances I won't do it? The guys are like, yeah, yeah, sure, I'll do it. Maybe those are the people, like you said. Maybe it's like at your workplace, it's like, who wants to be the fire marshal of this floor of the building? And then all of a sudden, someone lights something on fire in the kitchen. You're like, oh, man, Dwight, I'm the guy that signed up. Like, so that's how it felt. Yeah, that's how it felt exactly. Schwarz on his knee for that third home run was theater. The same way the night before Cal Raleigh was theater. Remember when his dad turned around and it was just all of it, man, what a week for Baseball. And by the way, we're allowed to gush. We're gushing. I know we sound like fanboys to the max, but baseball had a great week. But baseball had a great week. And how many people are quick to dump on baseball? How many times do we say, hmm, as hosts of a show, yeah, let's lead with football, because people get bored with baseball talk. We keep. We keep it real. And I wasn't doing the field stuff with you guys earlier, but I stayed. Yeah. You know, in the seats. And there were MLB executives in that row, and they were really happy with how it turned out. But what did we. You guys said it yesterday. You thought the Home Run Derby was going to be the highlight. And. And you said it on the air. So you. You're not fanboying too much because you were honest on yesterday morning show saying that, oh, Home Run Derby's the highlight. The game's probably going to be boring. You said that. I did. And I think a lot of people assume that. And then look what happened. They do the All Star Game better than any other sport. That's just a fact. Danny G. To wrap it up, you know, again, we left. We're the worst, but so did Aaron Judge and Ohtani get off us. And I said there were a lot of fans I saw leaving when it was six to three. Yeah. What was it like? Two things. When the swing off was announced and when it was going on. And that Hank Aaron tribute. Got to tell us about that. That was beautiful. But. Yeah, what was it like when the swing off happened? Did everybody just go nuts? Yeah, at first it was a lot of confusion, and I saw a lot of people bust out their cell phones trying to get the TV feed. Yeah. So they could have. And turn the audio, turn the volume up. Yeah. And then once we figured out what was going on, it. Dude, everybody was just so excited. And when Schwarber thought that his third one was gonna go foul, I thought because the way he was leaning and on his knee like that, I thought that ball was going foul. It wasn't really even that close when they brought out the net and when they brought out the too. Like, I'm. Like, what the heck? Yeah. And then I thought, too, that's a. That's a decent amount of pressure, too, for the pitching coaches. No. Because they have to not deliver in an All Star Game. They didn't plan. Yeah, but they didn't plan on that. Dude, we. We didn't know who was going to be pitching either. That's the other thing. Right yeah. Never seen this before. Three pitches. Again. Three swings. The stadium went bananas when Schwarber hit that third one. Yeah, it was awesome. It really was. Well, really awesome. Big win for the NL. Big win for baseball. Big win for baseball. NL wins the SW off 4, 3. And now we continue with the break and we talk football and everything else. Yeah, this, this a couple fun stories in the NFL today and there's one story that I want to get to about Scotty Scheffler and it has to do with just perspective in sports and life. Life, work, balance. What does it all mean? We'll get to that next as we fill in for Dan, Patrick, Cavino and Rich. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. A couple years ago, Bob Odenkirk showed up out of nowhere as an action star and Nobody. I saw this movie in the theaters and I was completely caught off guard but pleasantly surprised by Bob Odenkirk's performance in the first Nobody. So I'm really excited about this one. He's back. In the sequel, Nobody 2, hitting theaters Aug. 15, Bob returns as Hutch. This time he tries to go on vacation with his family, only for all hell to break loose. It's a real delight to see a guy like Odenkirk kick some serious ass. And if you saw the first one, you know he can do it. So he's back again. Nobody 2 is produced by 87 north, the same team behind hits like John Wick, Bullet Train and the Fall Guy, so they have a great track record. The film also stars Connie Nielsen, RZA and the legendary Christopher Lloyd and Sharon Stone, so they got a great cast to go along with Bob odenkirk in this one. Nobody 2 is a perfect summer movie. You don't want to miss this one. Nobody 2 is in theaters August 15th. I like to travel, but then I do miss certain things when I leave home. Like my bed, my sleep number bed. Congrats to baseball, Dan Patrick, Hatrick, Covino and Rich live from the Iheart Studios in Atlanta. Everything at Covino and Rich. So I basically was playing out my thoughts as this was going on because I didn't know what the hell was happening. Swing off. But it was awesome. I was like, what playoffs? Exactly. Swing off. I was saying back at the studio, Sam and Mark, everybody hanging out with us, we appreciate it. The numbers 8 7, 799 on Fox before we move on and talk, Scotty Scheffler and the Work Life balance, Danny G. Tell us about the eruption of the crowd, Van Halen style at the game when the swing off happened. And I do want to hear about the Hank Aaron thing live. How was that? Because on TV it looked really cool. The Hank Aaron tribute. What was cool is it started as any tribute you've seen at a sporting event would, but then the light, it paused, the screen paused and the DJ started playing music. It was interrupted. So I thought they wanted you to think that the screen froze. So yeah, they were like trying to trick all of us. And I'm like, wow, what a bad time to have a glitch. And then all the lights came down and everybody was like, oh, okay. They were trying to get us right there when the lights came down. Then it was a light show on the field, and it showed the old school and out Vince Gulley's voice calling the home run call. And then a firework shot out of a cannon at the same trajectory of Hank Aaron's famous 715th home run. And that stadium, because obviously, Atlanta, Georgia, it's all about Hank Aaron. You watch through truest. And there are so many dedication plaques and there's a statue. There's. There's a whole hallway of Hank Aaron stuff there. So Georgia and the world loves Hank Aaron in baseball, always so good with getting to their back to their roots and honoring the legends. And they showed his wife, who was there in attendance. After the whole thing, after the lights came back on and the place, everybody lost their mind. And she. She was. She was emotional. She was tearing up. Just the visual alone on TV was insane. But Danny G. Saying, you know, to be there, a whole different story. So again, baseball doing it right. Bringing some entertainment to the game. Showmanship, and we reap all the benefits. So your thoughts at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports radio. And again, 87799 on Fox. But. But let's talk golf. Well, not necessarily golf. I mean, it is golf, but not. I mean, Happy Gilmore does come out in less than 10 days. Comes out on Friday. So now you got weekend plans. You got the Sandman, Happy gilmore on the 25th. Yeah, that's next Friday. Next Friday, yeah. And you got. Well, this weekend you got those two fights. You got this coming weekend, you got. I know what you did last summer. That's. You got that. And you got, like I said, those fights. Yeah. Usyk and Dubois. And you also have Manny Pac Man, Pacquiao fighting. Huh? But Scotty Scheffler is in the news, not for golf as much as just his mindset on life. Now, we've talked about legends like Jim Carrey always comes to mind where Jim Carrey hit a certain point in his career, and he talks about, like, getting to the mountaintop. And it's not as great as you think. You saw Aaron Rodgers talk about this in his documentary. You win a Super bowl, and then you're like, all right, I got to where I was going to. Now what? And I think now what? Is sort of a question great people ask themselves. Because then I often ask that about fan bases. Right? Like that every Christmas, because I'm all excited about it. And then it comes, and I'm like, all right, now what? Now what? I think People feel this way as fan bases, too. Like, I always say, the 2016 Cubs, how awesome that was. But when your team never, ever, ever wins, and then they finally do, and you're like, yeah. And then, like, the joy of that moment dissipates. You're like, all right, now what? Find new challenges, new things to excite. But you know what? Scotty Schiffler talked all about it. I want everyone to hear his perspective, and then we'll discuss, analyze, and take. Why so deep and heavy, though. Does anybody know, like, why he just went on this rant? I think we're all hitting. I think it happens when you're in your 30s or 40s, you start thinking about life more. This is major reflection. Sort of out of nowhere. I couldn't find the question anywhere. Everybody's just been playing his comments, like, yeah, he really, really opens up. Fox Sports Radio Nation. Dan Patrick, Nation. Take a listen. He's about to be 30, 29 years old. He's about to be 30. That's what. That's why. Let's hear this. Is it great to be able to win tournaments and to accomplish the things I have in the game of golf, yet it brings tears to my eyes just to think about, because it's literally worked my entire life to become good at the sport and to have that kind of sense of accomplishment, I think is. Is a pretty cool feeling. You know, to get to live out your dreams is very special. But at the end of the day, I'm not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers. I don't. I'm not here to inspire somebody else to be the best player in the world, because what's the point, you know, this is not a fulfilling life. It's. It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of, like, the deepest places of your heart. That's why I talk about families being my priority, because it really is. I'm blessed to be able to come out here and play golf. But if my golf ever started affecting my home life or it ever affected the relationship I have with my wife or with my son, that's gonna be the last day that I play out here for a living. This is not the be all, end all. This is not the most important thing in my life. And that's why I wrestle with. Why is this so important to me? Because I would much rather be a great father than I would be a great golfer. At the end of the day, that. That's what's more important to Me, I think for the first time, you know, it's easy to mock younger generations, right? Cause it's all it's got. It's so easy to make fun of young gen zers and the weenials and teens. But I do think that, as you saw from our grandparents to our parents, and now I'm Gen X. If you're a kid of the 80s and 90s, each generation seems to. There's a couple things they add, right? And I think the younger generation is good about this. Work, life, balance. I think other generations in the past have focused so much on work really mattering when it really doesn't. And I don't know about that. I think a guy like Scotty Scheffler is just pointing out, I work so hard for all this in golf, and it really doesn't mean anything. You know, it means something. His wife and kid, I think he just hit with the reality of, okay, I did it, what's next? And then he realizes life goes on. Like, yeah, it's great, but you still have to move forward and find the next challenge. So it's great for that moment and that minute, and it's nice to have that in your pocket and on your resume. But you have to keep moving forward. Such is life. Any challenge, any accomplishment, life goes on. It doesn't stop once you reach the mountaintop or you win at all. No matter what happens, life goes on. Whether it be something great or something terrible, life goes. You have to keep moving forward. He's realizing now that, yeah, you still have to keep moving forward. Even though I accomplished my goal. He talks about another goal. He talks more in there. There's other clips that we don't need to put very deep, but. But he goes on and on. I've heard more of that where he does talk about how, like. Like, what does it all really mean? Like, being a good golfer. What does that. What does that mean? Yeah, he's made some good money. He's been able to provide, but in the big picture of life, and I guess that's when maybe he smoked a Dube or something. You know, sometimes you get a little high, maybe a couple drinks, and you start thinking a little more, a little deeper or something majorly reflective. It's like, hey, dude, I just asked how you're feeling lately. I didn't expect all that. But it was an incredible answer. It really was. But I feel like, yeah, he really needed to venture or open up. But I do think that while work is important, we gotta remember people still need to Make a living. Like it's easy to be like, work doesn't matter if you have money and resources. You downplayed it. Yet all these young people are pretty much broke for the most part. But you see a lot of times these young people, these young people, I mean like 20 somethings, right? You see them on Instagram and TikTok and they're like swimming in cenotes in Mexico, living their life, traveling the world. They're traveling to countries you've never been to and you may be a successful grown adult. And their mindset is like life experience, man, who cares? Like we gotta you live once. Well, and then if that's their priority, don't be crying about working money. I'm not saying that the economy is the way it should be. And you know, I'm not saying that you should be able to fix the real estate market, but maybe you shouldn't be doing the backstroke in Cenote and Tulum if you can't afford it. Yeah, but their, their mindset is like, I'll just, I'll charge, it doesn't matter. But would you say that's just a lack of priorities? So you're saying that they, oh, they got it right. I'm not saying they haven't totally worked. Work should probably be more important so that you could afford to live in today's world. Yeah, but the mindset might be like, well, why live then? How about live now? I'm just saying like what like the young person mindset is like, but that doesn't make it right. There, there's people you know that are like, you know, younger, 20 something. You might have family members or neighbors and in your mind you're like, I, they probably are broke. Meanwhile they're doing elaborate stuff. And for our generation older, like, how are you doing all this? Yeah, you know, I go to AI for a lot of reasons nowadays. Yeah. And, and you guys, you guys use Chad. Yeah, Chad GPT. Right. I, I looked it up and it said it's not necessarily a 50, 50 split of time, but rather a state where neither work nor personal life significantly overshadows the other. Whoa, that's a great mindset. I like that. But I also like what Scotty Scheffler said. I just wonder, man, what's he going through? And it's kind of simple. He's like, you mentioned Jim Carrey. When you've reached a certain level of success, maintain it. Really? Or like, you know, find the new goal. Yeah, it's like, well, what do I do? I, I worked my whole life just for this. It's a feeling not everyone gets to experience, but what everybody can relate to is that no matter what it is, you have to still keep moving forward. It sounds like a Rocky Balboa sort of quote, but that's the truth. And I guess he's just coming to terms with that now. So again, it's Cavino and Rich and for the great Dan Patrick live from Iheart in Atlanta. So your thoughts on Scheffler and we're going to get to some NFL next? It was just a very deep thought from one of the top golfers in the world and you're thinking to yourself, yeah, what's this guy going through or like? No. Is this the mindset that the whole clip is actually worth to listen? It's just a long one. Well, we'll, we'll play a little more of it next. So you want to hear more Scheffler? We'll talk some NFL. We'll have some fun, we'll give away some prizes and it's all coming up right here on Fox Sports Radio cnr. I'm trying to read Iowa Sam's mind. He's back at the studios on the ones and twos back in la. I think he's playing collective soul heavy because we're having a heavy conversation. Bingo was his name. And don't worry, we're gonna lighten the mood. Yeah, we're going from deep to cheap. Deep to cheap. Coming up, something one of our co workers lit social media on fire with. Well, look, life's not all sunshine and rainbows, as Balboa said. And I think Scotty Scheffler's coming to terms with that because he's seen the mountaintop. Not everybody has. And the one thing I disagree with him on is that he's just a golfer. Yeah, I get it. He's just a golfer. But you know what? Just a golfer inspires a lot of people. Just the baseball player. You see the excitement it brought me yesterday. It inspires a lot of people. Dreams do come true. I saw a story about Canelo Alvarez who inspired some kid with cystic fibrosis who was getting bullied, and, you know, he thought he had nothing to live for. And this kid was brought to tears when he finally met Canelo because Canelo helped him fight through his life. So you're not just a golfer, you're not just a baseball player, you're not just a boxer. You know, you're someone that could inspire other people. So it sounds like he gave a really sincere and deep answer, but it's relatable. However, I don't completely agree with everything. We're going to play it again. See your thoughts. But for the first time ever, mlb. Which is why we're here. Baseball's popping live from the Iheart Studios in Atlanta. MLB is going to be hosting a regular season game in the state of Tennessee right inside one of the world's most iconic racetracks. How cool is that? Super cool, bro. Bristol Motor Speedway. Geez, you come in here like Kramer busting through the studio. Bristol Motor Speedway as the Braves take on the Reds Aug. 2 in the MLB Speedway Classic. Before the action, a pregame concert will take place near the field, headlined by Tim McGraw. Tickets going fast. So get yours now at MLB. Imagine being anybody in Tennessee, but especially like a teenage kid who's never seen a Major League baseball Game. This is your chance. Try to get out there. That's awesome. I was just talking to one of the nice women that work here at the iHeart. Atlanta should have been talking to me, Hobnobber. And she was like, did you guys go to the game? Welcome to Atlanta. I go, yeah. We went. She goes, what an ending. And I was like, we left early. And she's like, I wouldn't tell people that. Did she give you a wedgie? Yeah. She's like. She's like, you guys should lie to your friends and family and say, yeah, I was there. It was electric. You know, we like, we said multiple reasons, but we had other work to do. Yeah, I get it. I get it. Right? You don't think we want to sit there and enjoy the game? Of course. Oh, by the way, I wrote that one other thing about Scotty Scheffler before we move on because we got to call out a cheap co worker. And we're going to do midweek major. A lot of hot stories. We'll talk some NFL. We'll play a game. While you were BSing with the lady over there. We already said all that. Oh, I'm just messing with you, bro. Great. No. Yeah. Last thought on Scheffler. Last thought on Scheffler. We already said we're going from deep to cheap. Yeah. So the deep. He started that quote. And I would say, I don't expect you to play the whole thing. Don't worry about it. But he does say at one point in that whole clip, I work my whole life for essentially a two minute celebration. And then after that, you're like, what's for dinner? Wow. That was. That was his thought. He's like, you're a great golfer. You want it all. You got lots of money. I'm just kidding. But his theory is like, I worked my whole life. You accomplish it. You win a major tournament, you know, you're holding your golf club in the air, you're cheering. He goes, when that two minutes settles down, and then your wife or family's like, yeah, that's great. What do you want to get for dinner? You realize, like, all that from. For a life of training for that. Yeah. That's why when people get accolades taken away, I'm always like, who cares? They experienced it when the Astros won the World Series. Cheating, when Reggie Bush at one point got his Heisman taken away. I remember always thinking like, who cares? They live that moment. Life goes on. Living the moment is the experience. You could take it away, but you can't take away something that actually happened. Like I said, it's like when you're at a courtroom and someone says something crazy and the judge goes, strike that from the record. Like I just heard him say it and you think, I can't forget it. So there you go, Scotty Scheffler. More to life than just being ridiculously good at golf and good looking. I appreciate the honesty, but it does leave a sour taste to people who are really striving for something. So. Because really what he's saying is. You mean all the things I'm striving for don't mean diddly squat? They kind of don't. Yeah. But you gotta like switch your mindset and find other challenges to fulfill. You like challenges trying to find the cheapest food you could possibly find. Or happiness doesn't rely on your accomplishments. It's really within, you know, not to get too deep, but that's it. And we're going from deep to cheap. Yeah. There's a co worker at Fox Sports that is the cheapest guy on planet Earth. We're gonna call out our buddy Rob Parker, who from the Odd Couple. That's Doo Doo coming up next. Plus, we'll talk some NFL and we're giving away some prizes. We'll play a little game. We'll play Last One Standing this hour on FOX Sports Radio cnr. In for dp.
