Hello, America's sweetheart. Johnny Knoxville here. I want to tell you about my new true crime podcast, Crimeless Hillbilly Heist. From Smartless Media, campside media and big money players. It's a wild tale about a gang of high functioning nitwits who somehow pulled off America's third largest cash heist. Kind of like Robin Hood, except for the part where he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. I'm not that generous. It's a damn near inspiring and true story for anyone out there who's ever shot for the moon, then just totally muffed up the landing. They stole $17 million and had not bought a ticket to help him escape. So we're sitting like, oh God, what do we do?

What do we do?

They actually Lose it. They sort of went nuts until one night, everything spins out of control. Listen to hell in Heaven on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. It's hour two this Thursday. Dan and the Dan Nets Dan Patrick Show. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is the best crowd we've had in South Bend. Yeah. This week. Are you sure? Yep. Best crowd that we've had. Say good morning if you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, or you're listening on our radio affiliates around the country. 400 cities that carry this program. Steelers, Bengals tonight, and the Steelers are favored by five and a half. Dodgers, brewers, game three, Blue Jays and the Mariners game four. Coming up, we'll talk to Marcus Freeman. He'll join us next hour. Carson Palmer, former USC quarterback. And coming up in about 20 minutes from now, the great basketball player here at Notre Dame, Hannah Hidalgo. And I mentioned she'll be the face of college basketball. She was going to be one of the faces, but juju Watkins got injured and Paige is gone. And so this is the stages for Hannah Hidalgo. And I'm sure that she will do quite well. I think she's only like 5 5, but she plays like she's 6 5. Yeah. Paulie, you see the highlights? You're like, well, how. How is she doing this crossing over? Right. Everyone knows where she's going and she popping 30. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. All right, so we got a great guest list coming up these next two hours. You got football coming up tonight, and you got two quarterbacks who were over 40 years of age. How often have we had a game where you've had quarterbacks this age squaring off against each other? Paulie, I got the NFL history of quarterbacks over 80 total. Not. Not one. Obviously. That would be rare facing each other. You got to go back to John Elway, Warren Moon. In 98, they were combined 80 plus. I got Vinnie Testaverde versus Kurt Warner. More Testa verde than Warner, I think it was. They were 80 and 84 days. Brett Favre, Vinny Testaverde. 07. You got Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco tonight. And then the top three spots are all by the two guys. Drew Brees and Tom Brady face each other thrice. And at one point, they were 85 years. 85 and a half years old. That was 20, 21. And once again, you got Steelers who are favored by five and a half against the Bengals. This is one of those. When the schedule came out, you know, preseason, we're going. Yeah, Burrow. Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh. Yeah, this will be great. Okay, maybe not as much, but I've got the over under for passing totals tonight. In case you're wondering who has a higher over under passing total as far as yards go tonight between these two. If you said Joe Flacco, you would be correct. 238 and a half. Aaron Rodgers, 217 and a half. But busy schedule coming up today tonight with baseball and also with football. Seaton. Would you update the poll results from the first hour? What is the poll question for hour two? Yeah, we just went right at it. First hour. Would you rather play football at Notre Dame or usc? Wait, it said. It sounds like my ride is here. What's going on on here? Someone's got a hot rod out back. Is that Marcus Freeman? He's early. Maybe it's Hannah Hidalgo. So high school to do that sports car look at me thing. Or it sounds like you got a bad muffler. Are you kidding? I don't like that car. Is awesome that you like that sound in the middle of our broadcast. I definitely don't like that sound. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to have that sound from my car. Look at me. Look at me. I'm overcompensating for other things. A gorgeous classic car. I don't mind the car. This doesn't have to make that sound like it needs, like, body. Like something's wrong with the car. That sound of like there's like a muffler hanging down. That doesn't do it for me. Maybe the girls like that these days. I don't know. They do, by the way. I remember in high school they did. I saw the guys who had those cars. Your looks, your personality. If your car goes, oh, that's hot. It was amazing. The guys who had cars in high school always had a girlfriend. Always. You had a, you know, tricked out Camaro or a Nova or Barracuda. And I was like, damn, I'm still driving a tent, riding a 10 speed bicycle. I was 18 years of age and I'm trying to. How can you take somebody out on a date? You want to sit on my handlebars? That's not gonna work. That'll never work. It didn't work. It did not work. Yes, Marvin. Especially if you had a 1994 tours. Oh, poor Marvin. Come on. No, no. I had a car. Yes. Hell, Yeah, I wasn't. I wasn't new to this. I was true to this. Come. There's cars, but there's cars that helped you. Well, in East Harvard, Connecticut, you had a four tourist. Oh, Marv, what's up? Who, me? Power windows, Marvin. Oh, no, no, no. Those are just. Yes. Todd, would you rather not have a car on campus or live at home with your mom in Brooklyn and not be able to bring anyone in? I would rather have cupcakes. I would rather be on campus and not have a car. I think you made the right choice there. Yeah, it's like, who wants pizza? Mom Making out here. What are you doing? Knock on the door next time. You lived at home until how old? Too long. Until I moved to California. I was like 23, 24? 22. Yeah. 21. 22. Yeah. That's rough. I had the Heather Thomas poster up on the wall coming out of her Jacuzzi. That was the close I got to anything. It's not good. Not a good situation. By the way, Todd's talking about how the sound of that car was too high schoolish. This dude's 24 with Heather Thomas posters on his wall, living with his mom. I guess I'm just jealous. That's the inner, you know, upsetness coming out of me. Like, I wish I had the cool car that makes a lot of noise. Your upsetness. Upsetness that. Not a word. I had the green banana seed, the banana seat bike. That was cool. Okay, those were good. Sparkling. Had a little owl on the thing, made a little. When you turn the handle, scare the pigeons. I thought. I thought I was cool. The girls weren't into that. And they don't care if you know the atomic radii of boron. That doesn't excite them either. Seaton, what's the poll question for hour two? No, I just. I had to blow through the stop zone. I just tell you. Just go. Would you rather play football in USC or Notre Dame? Well, jeepers creepers. This is a 50.9 to 49.1. Want to guess? USC. Here come the Irish. Oh, okay. Yay. They just barely, barely squeaking by on that one. Just barely. Yeah, there's a little too much studying going on here for me. You know, it is a little quiet midterms. We were walking around campus yesterday and I was like, man, this is way too quiet. Way too quiet. And then everybody was like, we got midterms. We gotta study. We pulled in today and it's like 6:50 and the library lights are on. Like kids are in there studying. I'm like, what are you doing? Damn. What is. Yeah. What is going on here? Yeah. Paul. Yeah. If you're a big time recruit for football, you go to Notre Dame, you're probably thinking, I really gotta go to class. Not partially go to class. Some of those schools down south, no names. It feels like you can get by with semi attendance. Yeah. Yeah. It seems like a more lackadaisical academic standard if you're a football player. And I didn't name names, but I don't know how much they. They are. Are monitoring that. You know, certain schools, I don't know, like, all you got to do is stay eligible and is eligible. 1.8. I think it's 2.0 now. It is 2.0. Oh, okay. We needed 1.8. I might have struggled with a 2.0. Yeah, yeah. Hey, but I was a 4.0 outside of the classroom, man. You know what I mean? Todd, he doesn't know what you mean. He doesn't know. Remember we had Manziel on and his set. He said his second year at A and M after the big year, he took all online classes. And this is before COVID This has nothing to do with COVID He didn't have to go to class anymore. He didn't have to attend. They said it caused too much commotion, and I wonder how often that happens. No, I can understand that. He was a thing. Yeah, I mean, he. That he was rare. There's not a lot of those throughout history, you know, but he was so ahead of everybody else when he wanted to be paid. And then they were on the. He was on the COVID of Time magazine and, you know, saying, you know, pay me the money. So that was what, 12, 13 years ago? He's on the COVID of Time magazine and we're talking about paying players. Yes, Todd. So instead of having someone write the papers for you, you know, you got the chat GBT and the AI and all that st. So when it's time to plagiarize, you call it up on the screen there, change a few words here and there because you don't normally talk like that or use words that you're not familiar with. And then you send it in and next thing you know, you're still on the team and everything's fine. It's a good thing. What was the point? My point is we're talking about grade point averages and professors that are letting kids graduate and what's, you know, who's. What's the checks and balances of kids that are not meeting the grades, being able to continue playing athletics. Yes, Paul, I can help. I teach a little bit. And they have things in place where defending chatgpt so professors and teachers can take all student activity, all student papers, and they run it automatically through chat GPT. It's much easier to get caught now for something like that. Much easier to get caught. Yes, Marvin, we said stay eligible, not graduate. He's like, oh, let's graduate. No, no, no, no sec. You know how to spell your name? Come on. Wow. Dang, Marvin. Wait, did I say that out loud? You can't name conferences say down south like I did. Okay, well, all of them. What Todd, now the punishment is you really shouldn't do that and have good luck against LSU. That's what you get. That's what the professor would say. 8773 DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP show so I gave you the headlines there. Tuatanga Bialoa had his press conference and this is after he had a press conference after they lost a game. And then he's basically calling out his teammates that they didn't show up. They showed up late for a players only meet. And this is after he threw three interceptions. And I'm thinking, okay, if you're going to do that and you're calling out your team after you throw three interceptions, the first person you throw under the bus is yourself. And you want to mention players who didn't show up or showed up on time. I don't know why that was made public. So then Tua was going to hold a press conference yesterday and I thought, this will be good because now he's going to have to walk this back. Here's the Dolphins quarterback. You know, for, for myself, I got to look at myself as, as the leader protecting the team. I don't feel like I, I did that to the best of my abilities. I felt like I let the emotions of the game get to me after the game and you know, that's something that I can learn from as a leader on this team. And what happens in house should be protected and none of that should have gotten out and so want to publicly apologize about that. Want to move forward. And now I want to focus on the Cleveland Browns. He doesn't do well in press conferences. He just doesn't. And I like, I understand when you go to the press conference after a game and there's emotions and all of that, but you threw three interceptions. That's where you got to go. It starts with me and we as a team have to be better. There has to be accountability. You don't need to have a players only meeting. You don't need to tell us, that guy showed up late. Don't tattle, you know, go talk to those players. He just doesn't do well when he goes to these press conferences. Yeah. Paul, do you think he's unaware or he's too honest? I can't put a pin on it. He might be one of those guys that says what he really feels like Rory McElroy to me, says what he really feels. And that's why he's one of my favorite interviewers. Interviews, because he will say something and he'll actually think about what you're asking him. But I don't know what Tua is doing. But he, he's had a couple of these press conferences that. It's not a good look here. Yes. Somebody like Rory say he, he seems to be pretty mindful of what he's saying or thoughtful about it. It's, it's rare that I could think of that he really gets tripped up where it's like, whoa, what did he just say? And yeah, I don't, I don't know where that's coming from with Tua, but there's definitely moments where he's speaking publicly and you're like, oh, brother. Yeah, Todd. And if you don't apologize right away, it seems to me less authentic that you waited to see what the court of a public opinion is to what you said. Is the agent involved, the team? Did someone come to you and say, you really should comment about this because this has just been a bad look for you the last few days. It's almost like they should take him and talk to him. What are you going to talk about at the press conference? Just so they can kind of have a preemptive strike there if he's going to say something. Hey, there's a. There were always these episodes on the Office where Pam was the secretary and she would be ready to put a call through to Michael and then Michael would start saying something stupid and then she would say, I'm going to put the call in through to you now. And then Michael Scott would. He had already said something stupid and then, you know, kind of keep him out of trouble. Yes. Marv until went to Alabama, a school that he was always in front of microphones. Yeah. So it's not like he went to, you know, some podunk school in the middle of nowhere where nobody paid attention. He went to, like, and he played for Nick Saban. And you don't know how to maneuver when the media comes around, starts asking you questions in a press conference. That's a good point, Seaton. So what are the other poll questions we're looking at at least for hour two? We're still putting one together here about older quarterbacks, but this, the USC, Notre Dame 1, is a real doozy. We're going to ride that for a little bit longer, too. All right. By the way, Dan Campbell, the Lion's head coach, he met with the media yesterday. Now, he had a touchdown called back, and it was a play with Jared Goff, who Jared Goff under center, went in motion, then caught a touchdown pass. And then there's a long delay. They're ready to kick the extra point, and then they throw the flag. And it seems like somebody upstairs or the NFL home office said, hey, you guys missed that. That was it. Now, it was an illegal formation. It's, it's an archaic rule, but they did call it. But once you get to the point where you score the touchdown, you shouldn't be able to throw the flag after you've scored a touchdown. You're lining up for the extra point. Here is Dan Campbell, the Lions head coach, on that touchdown being called back against the Chiefs. Did you get from the refs on the golf, touchdown overturned. And did you agree with the explanation? It doesn't matter if I agree or disagree. It was explained. It suitably doesn't matter. That doesn't matter. So I know it came from New York and they said he never stopped. He stayed in motion. He can't stand motion. That was that. So that didn't. That was. That had no bearing on the game. I mean, you know, we lost by 13 points. 15. It did have a bearing on the game because it was a great play. Then it was overturned. But I reached out to Mike Florio because I was wondering about this, that who made the call? Because those on the field were talking about the referees on the field said they made the call. Here's Dan Campbell saying, no, that call came from the home office here. So somebody's lying. Now, they got, they got the call. Right, but somebody is lying in the process here who made the call. Because it seems like the home office goes, guys, you screwed up there. And that's when they throw the flag. To me, that's in the books. You made the mistake. That's not on the Lions. That's on you. Yeah, Paulie. And what's really bothersome, I think the league should clean this up, even if they Got the call. Right. There's only so much time you should have to review whether you're going to initiate a call. There should be a play clock right after the touchdown, just like there are on every play. The play clock starts running and they kick the field goal. Right. They kick the extra point. I'm sorry. And if they don't jump in, if New York doesn't jump in or the refs don't jump in before the play clock, there's a play, it's history, it's over. It's a. It's a matter of fact. Well, Dan Campbell. So I reached out to Florio and asked him about this from Pro Football Talk. He said if Dan Campbell's telling the truth, the league one, broke protocol to throw the flag and then two, lied about it. Ultimately, the ruling was correct, which is true. They got the call right. I just don't like the process of getting it right. We'll try to get a couple of phone calls in here. It's a beautiful day in South Bend, and in case you're wondering, South Bend is what, little over two hours from Chicago, two hours or so from Indianapolis? A little closer, but, you know, near Michigan. It's kind of nowhere. It's. It's. It's his own. No, no, no. Not a bad thing. It's. It's. Hey, Tua just showed up real quick. Yeah. I'm a lifelong Notre Dame. It's Poly Tanga Valoa. Yeah. It's omnipresent. It's. It's island into a itself in Northwest Indiana. You know, when you're growing up, people don't know exactly where it is because it's this great image of Notre Dame. It's kind of like Duke basketball. You don't know exactly where Duke basketball is. How's that? I'm trying to. I'm trying to save you here, Paul. I'm good. Oh, great. This will help. Yes. Once you find it, it's awesome. And maybe a little dot in the mouth, but once you find that cute little area where they are. Wow. Look what's going on here? Just trying to help a little bit. Probably a Kevin Costner moment revisited. So we got to kind of help it out. Yeah. Kevin Costner yelled at Paulie one day. That's fine. Dropped an F bomb. Yeah, that's all right. It was. Great moment, though. Great moment. It's all about content. All right, let me take a break. We'll talk to Hannah Hidalgo, the great basketball player here at Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman, a little bit later on And Carson Palmer, former USC quarterback. Let me sneak in a couple of calls, and then Hannah Hidalgo, the great basketball player here at Notre Dame, will stop by. Jared in Ohio leads us off. Hi, Jared. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. I got a couple questions for you and the guys. I wanted to see if you can answer them for me. First question is, will you be going to the NFL draft in Pittsburgh next year so my brother and I can plan our trip? Shout out David in Ohio. Next question is, what's your favorite nickname for this Thursday night matchup between Aaron Rodgers at 41 and Joe Flacco at 40? Personally, I'm calling it the Senior Citizen bowl, the one sponsored by Icy Hot, Orthopedic shoes and a good night's sleep. Honestly, I think whoever wins should get the AARP advantage. All right, thank you, Jared. Sponsored by a good night's sleep. Yes, we will be in Pittsburgh for the draft coming up next year. Kevin in Virginia. Hi, Kevin. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan. Hey, Kev. Good morning to you. Good morning. Six, six foot and a soft 240. Soft. Hey, first time. Long time. Dan, a couple of things real quick. I got a bet for Fritzi. I'll show you that. Just a second. But my son Jack and I are on our way to South Bend right now. We'll be there tomorrow at the show. Really looking forward to it. We'll be at the game on. But a couple. Couple opportunities for you to get some good food while you're there. Make sure you get a Ben's Pretzel at the stadium. They're tremendous. And maybe after the show today or tomorrow, take the boys over to o' Rourke's right off campus there and get some good burgers. Well, thank you. Yeah, we heard about that. Paulie's been scoping out the food scene, by the way. Adam in Michigan. Hi, Adam. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call. Just a quick couple things. Love it when you guys go on the road looking great in South Bend. I was up in Green Bay when you guys came for the draft and really enjoyed it. Just wanted to know, in the next two and a half years or so, what kind of locations are you guys kicking around as far as potential possibilities? Are you considering maybe a World cup stop, maybe Iowa City for a game there? We've talked about we're going to be in Las Vegas for Formula One for a couple of days, and then we've got the Super Bowl. We've got the draft. We've also got Tahoe again. I'm not sure. We talked about Iowa visiting Iowa at some point. We were talking about that last night, and I promised that we would do a pit stop there. Maybe we'll do Field of Dreams, but I think it'd be great. The guys are excited about that, and we may go to a different place next year for a football game. Paulie wants to go south, go to an SEC game, and I'm fine with that. You know, I'm okay. I don't know if it's, you know. You want to go to Ole Miss? That seems to be the style. Yeah. Great tailgate. Yeah. She's Hannah Hidalgo, the Notre Dame junior guard, the ACC preseason player of the year, and, well, she's had a star crossed unbelievable career so far with everything that she's accomplished. And we welcome in Hannah Hidalgo. Make yourself at home. Can I get your official height and weight or at least height?
A
5, 7.
B
5, 7.
A
5, 7.
B
Okay. You don't lie about that, though.
A
No, no, no, no.
B
Okay.
A
I make everybody believe I'm smaller. Five, six, you know.
B
Yeah. That's a good move there. A few questions that I thought of with your dad. Was your coach in high school?
A
Yes.
B
Okay. How tough was dad on you?
A
Oh, extremely tough. I mean, he knew, like, what was in me, so, like, it was nothing easy, you know, A lot of people do, like daddy ball and things like that. Like, their parents take it easier on them, but not my dad. If I made one mistake, we were doing 10 and ones, just sprinting up and back.
B
But when did he know what you had inside you?
A
Probably when I was like, four. Like when I first started playing basketball. He didn't really know. He kind of just assumed and just hoped for the best.
B
Do you feel like you're the face of college basketball, women's college basketball this year?
A
I don't know. I guess if that's what everybody else thinks. I mean, I'm just here to hoop.
B
Well, I mean, Juju's hurt.
A
Yeah.
B
And you, You're. You're the best player in college basketball, it feels like.
A
Is that what they're saying?
B
I think so.
A
I don't know.
B
Do you agree? Do you think you're the best player in college basketball?
A
I would say there's a lot of great women basketball players out there. If that's what everybody thinks, I don't know.
B
Well, you got confidence.
A
I do. I do have Confidence in my game, of course.
B
Who do you model your game after?
A
I used to watch a lot of Kyrie Irving growing up, like, a lot of his highlights. I also watched a lot of Arie when she was going on her little run in the collegiate level when she was here.
B
So have you met Kyrie? No, I actually have not, but he's a fellow Jersey.
A
He is, actually. Yeah.
B
Yeah, he is. Pretty good ball handler.
A
Great ball handler. One of the best. Great ball handling.
B
If you could play like Kyrie or Steph, who would you take?
A
Oh, that's a tough one. I can't take both Kyrie's handles and. Okay.
B
I mean, Kyrie shoots threes, but Kyrie does.
A
But I'll probably do stuff. I mean, he's unguardable with his shooting.
B
Are you unguardable?
A
I don't know. I guess we'll see.
B
Well, I've seen so far the first two years. And you grew up an Eagles fan?
A
Yeah, somewhat like a little bit. My dad was a big, you know, Philly sports guy, so any Philly teams is the ones that he was cheering for. So I would cheer. Didn't really know what was going on. I just knew if they won, then that was a good thing.
B
What was it like, though, when you went to a Notre Dame game?
A
My first time, honestly, it was amazing. The fans were amazing. Something like I've never seen before. And, you know, I've been to a lot of football games on my official visits, but, you know, the Notre Dame game was something just different.
B
How many scholarship offers?
A
Oh, too many to count, honestly. When they started coming in by, like, the dozen, I just stopped counting.
B
But. Okay. How do you sort out that you're going to end up at Notre Dame? Because Michigan was there, I think, and Ohio State was there.
A
Yeah, I think, honestly, just a lot of feel and a lot of prayer. Me and my family prayed a lot, just that the Lord would guide us in the right direction, and we ended up here at Notre Dame.
B
But you started with Nil?
A
I did. It was fresh when I got here.
B
Okay, what was that experience like?
A
Yeah, it was. It was different because now collegiate players can get agents and things like that. So it was. It was really new, and it was sort of hard to navigate because it's like, okay, what's the, you know, right amount? Like, what do we ask for? And things like that. But now that I have agents and things like that, they kind of handle all that Nil stuff.
B
Okay, but how's that work with an agent?
A
I don't know. Honestly. I don't know. Just tell them. Let them handle it. Tell them what I like, and they kind of go. Go after whatever they can.
B
Okay, but do you feel like a professional?
A
I mean, I. In a sense, yeah. I mean, it's a little different. Crotch players couldn't make money off of their name, and now it's like, you get paid for play. So it's. It's kind of like the. The collegiate level. But I don't like to think that I'm a. I'm a pro because I'm still, like, kidding ahead.
B
How important is the WNBA to you?
A
Oh, extremely important. And, you know, I think it's been my dream since I was younger to be able to play at the highest.
B
Level in the W. Best player that you've played against in your career? In high school. In high school, or if you wanted, the first two years at Notre Dame as well.
A
My best friend Madison Booker is probably the best I played against. She's at Texas.
B
Okay.
A
Yeah. And of course, Paige, of course, played against her. She's always given us problems.
B
Paige was pretty good, too.
A
Oh, absolutely.
B
Yeah. Yeah. Do you get yelled at by your coach? Have you graduated where you don't get yelled at?
A
Oh, absolutely. I think I get yelled at almost every day in practice. Yeah. Especially when I'm trying to go for a steal and I take myself out to plays. Yeah, I'm always getting yelled at.
B
But. Okay, so for people maybe haven't seen you play. How would you describe it?
A
I think I would say I'm fiery. I'm a dog. You know, off the court, I try to be, you know, a little relaxed and more chill. But on the court, I'm screaming, yelling, just very high intensity.
B
Paulie, would you give me the quote from a CBS morning show when Hannah was on? Yeah. We saw you on there last year, and you have this quiet voice, but you're like, yeah, when I'm going against my opponent, I enjoy ripping their heart out. Yes. Yeah.
A
Yes.
B
Explain that. Once you get. When does that mindset hit you?
A
I think right when I walk out to the floor to do warm ups. It's like I would try to. I want to instill fear into my opponents, especially if I'm picking them up full court, I want to make them so uncomfortable. They don't want to bring the ball up the floor. You know, I think that's just my mindset that I want to make my player as uncomfortable as possible.
B
If you could have a steal or you could hit a shot, what's more important to you?
A
Game winning shot or game winning steal?
B
Yeah.
A
That'S a tough one. That's, that's really tough. I probably, probably a steal. A game winning steal. I got those a couple times. It's just something different about locking down on defense for the game. Wouldn't play.
B
But you, you know, not everybody wants to play defense, especially now.
A
Oh, absolutely. That's why it's such an art.
B
Okay, but when did you. I'm gonna guess your dad said absolutely.
A
Yeah, absolutely. You know, I was always told that, you know, you're the smallest one on the floor. You got to bring something different, you know, because a lot of these girls have height, so it's a lot easier for them to, you know, just be skilled in one thing. Being smaller was like I had to be skilled in defense because I didn't know how to score over bigger, bigger girls. And so I just play like that all the time. I always was taught defense wins championships.
B
I love your defense. Thank you. I know you score, but I, you know, when you see somebody who wants to play defense and you got to want to play defense. Some people play defense, they don't want to play defense. But what would you say to kids about playing defense?
A
Yeah, I think defense will keep you on the floor longer, you know, when you're able to lock down your defender. Coaches love that. I was always taught, you know, control what you can control. You know, you can't control if your shot is falling one game, but you can always control your defense mindset and just taking pride and not letting anybody screw on you.
B
If you were going to play pickup and you needed it was a two on two. And I said you could pick one of my guys here just by looks. What guy are you taking to be on as your partner? Yeah, just them. There's no one else. I'm sorry. That's my starting lineup, Hannah. That's my starting lineup. That's, that's, that's my fab five.
A
Who can shoot? Which one could shoot? I heard you was a shooter, but I heard you didn't pass, so.
B
No, I don't pass.
A
Yeah, I heard it.
B
No, I shoot and I didn't play defense either, but if you left me open, I'm going to take your lunch money.
A
Look, that's what I need. Anybody who can shoot.
B
I could set picks.
A
Okay, we can work with that too. Little pick and roll.
B
Yeah, I like that seaton in the upper right. It can shoot.
A
He can shoot.
B
Yeah, he can shoot. Marvin is kind of our James Harden left hander. He can be. He can be good and he can be bad, and he doesn't pass either. And you don't want Todd at all. Why is that? No, you don't. I know I only go left, but I've got that nice, inconsistent hook shot from the corner. I got that Kareem thing going once in a while. Goes in. Do you watch the championship game? You know, not playing in a championship game, but do you watch those games? Can you watch somebody else play basketball?
A
Yeah, I can watch other people play basketball, but if we just lost in. In the tournament, then I don't watch.
B
Too painful?
A
Oh, yeah, absolutely. It's like, dang, like, what could I have done different to get in this position? And it's just like, I'd rather go be in the gym.
B
But what game do you replay in your mind or keeps you up at night? Is there one that keeps haunting you?
A
Every Sweet 16 game that I've been to, that's the ones that keep haunting me.
B
But what is that pressure? Like, when we talk about regular season pressure and then, you know, conference.
A
Yeah.
B
And then you get to the NCAA tournament.
A
Yeah, absolutely. It's so different because you think just during the regular season, it's like you have another game if you lose, okay, we can fix it. We can figure out our mistakes. Once you start getting into, you know, play as win or go home. And it's different because it's like a lot of these girls last time ever putting on a Notre Dame jersey or ever putting on a jersey at all. So it's like you're fighting for something bigger than, you know, just yourself, like, your teammates, who's their last time playing? And it's just like. It's scary. Every game is scary.
B
What's the most points you scored in a game?
A
Oh, I don't know.
B
Grade school, High school?
A
Grade school. In high school, I think it was, like, 41 or something. 45, something like that. Anywhere between that range, once you pass.
B
The ball a little more.
A
Yeah, I probably should have.
B
I probably should have.
A
But we won, so that's all that matters.
B
Okay.
A
All right.
B
But you never scored, like, 50. And when you're in grade school.
A
In grade school, yeah, probably. But it was middle school, so I don't remember those days. We were blowing teams out by 50 points.
B
Do you have keys to the gym if you want to go in after hours?
A
Oh, yeah, absolutely. It's open 24 7. For you, for everybody, for all of us.
B
Wait, like, for me?
A
Oh, no, not for you. But, like, wait, wait. You don't need to Be in there?
B
Yeah, I do. I like to get shots up. I go in the lab. That's. That's what you need to do.
A
That's exactly what we need to do. But any. Any of the players have access.
B
Who do you think's a better shooter, me or your dad?
A
Oh, I don't remember my dad being able to shoot, so I have no idea.
B
Who taught you to shoot?
A
You know, it's crazy. My youngest brother, who's two years younger than me, swore he taught me how to shoot. But I started playing when I was 4, so that means he was, like, 2 years old. But, yeah, probably. My parents, they had me in the gym all the time teaching me how to shoot.
B
Do you think we'll get to a point where you'll have basketball women's players leaving after their freshman year, sophomore year?
A
I would think the way the women's game is evolving, it's very possible. It's very likely. But I think for me, I personally just wouldn't do it because I just want to enjoy my, you know, time in college.
B
Well, how important is that degree to you?
A
Oh, absolutely. The Notre Dame degree. And, you know, during my recruitment process, it was like, once you get the Notre Dame, once you graduate, it's like if you wanted to go be a clown somewhere, you can find somebody, find an alumni that's there with you. So it's like, you know, just the connections and just the degree just set you up for life.
B
Okay, just to be clear, you don't want to be a clown?
A
No, I don't want to be a clown, but if I wanted to, there's opportunity anywhere.
B
But you're in film, though, aren't you?
A
I am. I'm an FTT major.
B
What do you want to do?
A
Probably after playing, after coaching, maybe in the broadcast, maybe in front of the camera. Just because I love the game. I know the game.
B
Oh, so not be like an actress.
A
No, no, no, no, no, no. Something with sports.
B
Oh, okay. So you want to do what I'm doing?
A
Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah.
B
Okay. I can probably help you. I'm the Hannah Hidalgo of broadcasters. Just to let you know, I got dog in me.
A
Look, I could tell.
B
Yeah, I'm ready. I slap the floor, by the way, when I play defense.
A
I thought you didn't play defense.
B
No, I give the impression I played defense. That never stopped. I always laugh when I see guys slap the floor. I go, what are you doing? That doesn't intimidate anybody.
A
Get them fired up, get some going.
B
Yeah, that doesn't stop me the only way to stop me was with a handgun and league. League rules frowned upon that.
A
I would hope so.
B
Oh, I'm not kidding. I'm being serious.
A
Over. Really?
B
Yeah. Jeez. Good luck this season.
A
Thank you so much.
B

If you haven't seen Hannah Hidalgo play, she is end to end both offense and defense. And she is a wonderful, wonderful player to watch. Not big, but she's not afraid. Yeah, Paulie. I just can't imagine. We're sitting here with this young woman and she's 20, but she's never not been involved in NIL. She entered with nil and she's first generation. That was as her recruitment. I can't imagine being an athlete in college, even a top athlete and having that much funds available and that many opportunities available aside from classwork and playing basketball. Just. It must be a little overwhelming. Well, it used to be you got a stipend when you were in college. You'd get a Pell Grant, there'd be some money that was there, but it wasn't enough that, you know, I, I went to a basketball. Well, I went to a school before I transferred to Dayton, but I went to a school where I remember they were giving players, well, allegedly used cars. Like we weren't good enough to get new cars. They. I remember one of these guys came in and he got a used Monte Carlo and I thought, we're not a big time basketball program. We're not giving new cars to, you know, kids to come here to school. Yeah, Paulie. So Hannah Hidalgo's Pell Grant is over $1 million a year estimated. She has nil estimated deals of over 1 million. And then, of course, now she's allowed to be paid. Exactly. From the program itself. I just can't imagine being. I don't know, it's a different era and trying to have. And that's where you, you know, you need your parents. You got to rely on your parents and the school. You got an agent and just trying to navigate that and you're seeing players who are going. There'd be no reason for her to leave Notre Dame early because you're going to the WNBA where you're going to make a hundred thousand dollars. Now, you still get that off the court money. But if you want to get your degree and she talked about how important that was, you're getting paid a million dollars playing basketball. Yeah, Marvin. And in women's basketball, to me, you're a bigger star in college than you are when you get to the wnba. Like Caitlin Clark. If somebody says, hey, draw a picture of Caitlin Clark, they're going to put on an Iowa jersey. Not An Indiana Fever jersey. Some people don't even know what team she plays for. In the WNBA at least. Yes, and Hannah talked about too. When you go to Notre Dame, it just opens up doors for you the rest of your life. There's sort of like always a connection somewhere where somebody. Somewhere in wherever you're going, there's a domer in there somewhere, like, oh, hey, yeah, me and you. Right, the alumni. Yeah. Any alumni. Massive. Probably stronger than any alumni in America when you think about it. Yeah. Paulie, can we get honorary degrees this week for doing a couple shows here?
A
Oh, my gosh.
B
Please. I. It could be fake. They could just make them up and print them up on a little piece of paper. They gave me a letterman. They didn't give it to me. They're about to lose it if they don't ask for it back. Yeah, then this is like Rudy 2. Yes. Yeah, but like an honorary. Like a pamphlet, a certificate that says we were like honorary degree for a month because none of us could even come close to getting in here. No, but you know the letter. I'd rather have the letter Letterman jacket than I would an honorary. But my mom's easily fooled. If I say I've got an honorary degree, she's 82. She won't know the difference. She'd be proud of me. Finally. Only if it disintegrated. Yes. They gave it to you and you had like 30 days. Like the Banksy painting that shredded itself. Yeah, it just disintegrates there seat. Would you update the poll results? Carson Palmer will join us top of next hour and then Marcus Freeman will stop by. Yeah, we got up there right now. Where would you rather play football, Notre Dame or usc? Man, this is. It's like super close right now. Notre Dame has ticked up to 52% of the vote. I think that's because LA is still waking up. Just saying. 8773 DP Show Andrew in Michigan. Hi, Andrew. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan, how you doing? Good. I am 510 on your left hand side. Oh, you're hearing me. The audience. Hi, Andrew. Okay, we've. We've noticed something in this section is that we can't hear Fritzi because he's going crazy like normal. And I think I figured out why Family Feud made him explode and he. Now he thinks he's the star. Thought, wow. So we run celebrity Family Feud. Todd was unbelievable. And has it gone to your head that you think you're better than everybody? I would like to think that that is not the case. I'm not that type of person. But I was riding a little high there for a little while. But that was a while ago. Yeah. That's what we've been saying now. Time to let it go. Yeah, I should check myself, I guess. Is that what we're saying? Yeah. Paul, what would explain the previous 17 years? Wow. Yes. That's a nice shot there. Yeah, I've got no comeback for that either. Yeah, we dominated. The Rich Eisen show on Celebrity Family Feud. Dominated. We let them win that first round. They were up like 88 nothing. And they thought, oh, I know that still bugs them the crap out of me that we didn't come up with Thor. There's the Marvel character. Dang, man, that's such a. It was right there. Yeah. But I like them to get that feeling of we're gonna dominate 28. Three. Yes. They. They were the Falcons. We were the Patriots. That fact. Yes. They were very cocky. And then all of a sudden the comeback happened. And there'll be a 30 for 30, I think on the Celebrity Family Feud. We were like a swarm of bees those next two rounds. Yes. Marvin. We saw the interview for Magic City. Yeah. Magic City Strip Club. Marvin went the night before. It was an inspiration. Yeah. We did it. We were so happy. On the way back. Did you make it rain? I gave you some money. I gave you guys a hundred dollars to go make it rain. That lasted for about 14 seconds. Carson Palmer will join us and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman. Two hours in the books here in South Bend. Final hour this Thursday, right after this. America is changing and so is the world. But what's happening in America isn't just a cause of global upheaval. It's also a symptom of disruption that's happening everywhere. I'm Asma Khalid in Washington, D.C. i'm Tristan Redman in London, and this is the global story. It's a damn near inspiring true story for anyone out there who's ever shot for the moon, then just totally muffed up the landing. They stole $17 million and had not bought a ticket to help him escape. So we're sitting like, oh, God, what do we do?
