You know, we always say new year, new me, but real change starts on the inside. It starts with giving your mind and your spirit the same attention you give your goals. Hey everybody, it's Michelle Williams, host of Checking in on the Black Effect Podcast Network. And on my podcast we talk mental health, healing, growth and everything you need to step into your next season whole and empowered. New year. Real you listen to Checking in with Michelle Williams from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Hour 2 on this Monday, we have a new coaching vacancy. The Buffalo Bills have fired Sean McDermott. Bill's announcer, Steve Tasker will join us coming up in about 20 minutes to talk about that. And could his replacement actually be somebody who used to be on the staff in Buffalo? Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of The Dan Patrick Show 877 3DP Show Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Also, we say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country. Also, Peacock carries this program, our streaming partner. Yes, Sean McDermott fired after the loss in Denver. And Ian Rapaport of NFL Network said that it was a shocker when he reported this. Anybody shocked here that the Buffalo bills fired Sean McDermott? I'm not, you can say maybe surprised, but shocked. I'm not, you know, there's certain situations where you go, something's up. And you know, RG3 joined us last week and I said, the Buffalo Bills, if they don't win, and then he said Sean McDermott will be fired. I, I don't think this is a surprising topic that just surfaced. I think it's been there. You got to make the AFC title game, at least make the AFC title game. And I think the injuries and maybe the subpar seasons that some of these marquee quarterbacks had in the AFC probably heightened awareness for Sean McDermott. It's like hey, window of opportunity. Nine years here. Now we got to get to the AFC title game. We gotta. You don't have Mahomes. Mahomes was always, you know, the pothole there. No Burroughs there, no Lamar. You gotta make it. Look at the remaining quarterbacks in the afc. We have to. We have to get by these guys. We're better than these guys. We're better than C.J. stroud, better than Drake May, Bo Nicks.
Todd
Not Stidham, though.
Dan Patrick
And then all of a sudden, you weren't. Thank you, Todd. Yes, Mark.
Marvin
But even if the Bills won last night, it still would have been. You guys got to beat. The Patriots is a divisional opponent that you've dominated for the past few years.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Marvin
Guy should win that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think the pressure was going to be on that. It felt like if it's not AFC title game or super bowl or bust. But I, you know, maybe Steve Tasker can help us understand the local part of this. And, you know, for Buffalo Bills fans, it's just. It's going to hurt. The question is, how is it going to hurt? You kind of know what the ending is going to be. You just don't know. Like that final chapter, who's writing it, you know, but you know, what the bottom line is going to be. It just feels like there's heartache, you know, with every page that you turn there and they have to blame themselves. And yes, Josh Allen did blame himself, and rightfully so. That was unlike, uncharacteristic of Josh Allen. And after the game, talked about the loss. It's extremely difficult. I feel like. I feel like I let my. Let my teammates down tonight. It's been a long season. I hate how it ended, and that's. It's going to stick with me for a long time. What about Brian Dable, offensive coordinator with the Bills? Of course, he went to the Giants, rumored to be maybe going to Philadelphia as the offensive coordinator. What if Buffalo brought Brian Dable in as their new head coach? There's some marquee jobs that are open now. Pittsburgh doesn't have a quarterback attached to it, although there are reports that the Steelers would welcome back Aaron Rodgers. You got Lamar Jackson. He needs a coach. And then you have Josh Allen needing a coach. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, if you're the Bills or the Bills fans, would you want a guy that just got fired from the New York Giants? Like, as far as the optics are concerned, like, we're trying to get over the hump. And you bring in Brian Dable.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but he was really successful there, right I, I, I know what, what the image would be like. We're taking the Giants leftovers. Like a guy who got fired and he's going to be the guy to lead us. Man, I'd get over that if I thought he was the right guy. Knows the team, knows the city. And, and once again, you're gonna have to deal with the Patriots for a while now. It's a young team for the most part, and you don't have to deal with the jets, you don't have to deal with the Dolphins. You just have to deal with the Patriots. And bringing somebody in, you know, the familiarity, I think is important. And I, but, you know, this comes down to, does Josh Allen want Brian Dable? That would be my gut feeling. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, the year before Brian dable became the OC in Buffalo, their offense was ranked. 32 years later, they ranked number two in the league.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, and, and look, as Josh goes, they go, but, boy, that was a bad performance, you know, and the one that just, it stands out where he was so careless at the end of the first half. I got, I just thought the last thing you need is a silly turnover that leads to points. And when, you know, they capitalized and kicked that field goal, I thought, you know, that's going to win you the game. We may look, we might look back on that play and go, they got a gift of three points there, but Denver was going to be a one point favorite. Now they're a five and a half point underdog against the New England Patriots. 8, 7, 73 DP show. Seton, what is the poll question for hour two?
Seton
Well, let me update you here again on, on the one that we have right now, the losing team from this weekend that has the most biggest issues.
Dan Patrick
Issues.
Seton
Right now, The Texans have 51% of that vote. The Bears are at 4%. That's pretty accurate. The bills are in second with Twitter, 29. That feels a little high to me.
Dan Patrick
And I know a lot of people were talking about the catch. Not a catch. Was it an interception? Jaquan McMillan. And, and look, we've watched it over and over. I still don't understand what is a full catch. Here is the, the actual call of this play. Blitz on the way. Allen in the pocket, loads it up deep ball down the field. The ball is inter. Jaquan McMillan. Oh, my goodness. The Bell sideline thought that Brandon Cooks had it. Jaquan took it away from him. Both players went airborne. And I watched it and I keep thinking, all right, you have both hands on the ball. And you come down and knee hits the ground. But then McMillan pulls it away. But if you look at it and there's different angles, and at first I thought, well, wait a minute. Doesn't a tie go to the runner? Like, the receiver should get the benefit of the doubt, but McMillan has his hands on the ball as well. And then this whole. Complete the process. And, I mean, I. I was. I was shocked that they called it. Now, if that's in Buffalo, do they call it. Can you overturn something like that? Well, there was no replay on that, was there, for them to look at. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie McDermott calls a timeout to slow down the situation. Yeah, it appears that they gave it a quick look or they were secure in their decision, then they moved on to the next play. That's what it looked like when you're watching at home on tv.
Dan Patrick
Who thought it was an interception? Paulie? Marvin Seaton? Todd. You didn't think it was an interception in real time?
Todd
I thought he caught it and then he pulled it out after I was. I couldn't tell if the whistle was blowing.
Dan Patrick
Are you being nice because the Broncos won?
Marvin
No, in real time.
Todd
I very upset. I go, that's the game. I got really pissed off that they just allowed that to happen. And then he just pulled it out of his hands after he was down. And then you see different angles. But it is a bad look for the officials that they didn't look under a hood or at least pretend to take some more time to look at it a little further.
Dan Patrick
Here's Sean McDermott, the former Bill's head coach. On the interception, I call a timeout to try and slow it down. It would just. It would seem logical to me. The head official would walk over, want to go and take a look at it, just to make sure that everybody from here who is in the stadium to there are on the same page. That's. That's too big of a play. And in a play that decided the game potentially as well, to not even slow it down. And I've had a chance to look. It's hard for me to understand why it was ruled the way it was ruled. And if it is ruled that way, then why wasn't it slowed down? Just to make sure that we have this right. That would have made a lot of sense to me. So I'll just leave it at that. Yes.
Seton
Don't they have a guy in New York doing that?
Dan Patrick
Supposed to? Yeah, but I don't know if you could. Was it irrefutable that you would have been able to overturn it. Like the call in the fields, in interception. I don't know if there was enough to overturn it.
Paulie
Yeah, Paulie, it seems like from different reports I've read that the Sky Cam or whatever, the New York office, when they don't think something is worthy of a replay to delve into it, they say, press on, right call. Let's go. And they try to keep the game moving. And a lot of people think that's what happened here.
Dan Patrick
But it wasn't reviewable by McDermott. Correct.
Paulie
He can't throw a flag for a replay. Yes, but anytime there's a turnover, I think it's automatic.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Todd.
Todd
He did the next best thing by calling a timeout to try to stall things, because obviously once you run another play, it's over. And you could see him talking to the officials, trying to plead his case, and. And he thought by maybe calling timeout, somehow, some way, someone will give it another look and change the call.
Dan Patrick
All right, your phone calls. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. Brian in Phoenix. Hey, Brian, what's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan. 5, 11, 2, 48. And I'm a lifelong Paris fan and a lifelong Dan Patrick fan, so cnn. Yeah, I'm really happy with the Bears and how they played and what Caleb Williams is doing. A lot to look forward to in the years to come. And I just want to say I'm three years sober. This is the best gift that I could have had. So thank you for being here and thank you for everything, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Brian. Congratulations. Good luck with that. Luke in Colorado. Hey, Luke, what's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, dan, how you doing? Six, one and a half, 260. So, morning, fellas. So Best was walking out of Empire Field at Mile High after grounded Superman sending the Bills home. But then worst is directly after that. Think of what I was a. The worst joke I've ever heard on the ride home that Bo Nicks broke his ankle and finding out that that was not a joke after all. And now what are we gonna do?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that's tough. Because at first I thought, wait a minute, is this like a fake Adam Schefter account? Is this AI? And I'm sure Todd, you probably felt the same way.
Todd
I could not believe it. I thought because more and more, which is horrible, and that people should sue for that. By the way, AI makes it look like players and coaches are saying something and they do something with the audio in the lips and it Sounds and looks obviously just like them. And I thought someone was making a joke when Sean Payton was telling the press that Bo Nicks is not playing next week.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, well, we had moved on to the next game, and I'm not thinking anything about Bo Nicks. Like, all right, Broncos. Are they favored by how many? You know, that. That we. We had already moved on from that. And then I thought, wow, that is shocking, because then. Then you start to do your. Your Rolodex of plays where you go, I don't remember him getting hurt. And then all of a sudden, they located that play, and you could see where, you know, his ankle got kind of tangled up a little bit there. And, you know, you can break a bone, you can tear a ligament, and you know that you're hurt. You don't know the severity of that. And I think B. Nicks knew something was up, and then by the end of the game, you could tell where his. His emotions were. I'm not going to be able to play. Whereas in a game and the adrenaline's going, and, you know, in your mind, you have to have denial because you're like, no, no, no, I'm good. You know, I tweaked it a little bit, but if you break a bone, I mean, I've torn a ligament before in my knee, and I knew something was wrong. I just didn't know, you know, how bad it was. And that's not like, you know, we think of a broken ankle. That's a broken bone in his ankle. You break your ankle, you know, you're not getting up. But he broke a bone. Nothing he can do about it. Yeah.
Todd
Tom and I read a few columns that's supposedly on the sidelines. Sean Payton gave him, like, a little congratulatory push to his chest, and he's. And he said, careful. Beau said to Sean Payton, he's like, well, you're all right. And there was like a little, I guess, exchange there where he knew that something was not just right.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. And, you know, your body. And so I'm sure that it was like, oh, boy, you know, maybe I just twisted it. Maybe I sprained it. And then he quickly realized, because when he's being interviewed on CBS after the game, he's not even putting any weight on that foot. That was the telltale sign. All right, we'll get to more phone calls coming up. Did we give an updated poll question for hour two? Seton?
Seton
Well, I've got one here that maybe we could help populate a little bit, but the quarterback that had the most difficult time sleeping last night.
Dan Patrick
Ooh.
Seton
Josh Allen, CJ Stroud, Caleb Williams. I put Bo Nixon there, too. Just because it's a crappy injury to get this time.
Dan Patrick
Well, I'd say C.J. stroud, because I don't even know if the Texans have landed yet in Houston because they've had flight issues. He might not have slept. Can't imagine that everybody is awake. You know, you're trying to land in CJ's, you know, sawing logs there. Yeah, I know. You probably haven't heard that in a while, have you? I didn't know where that come. Is that the Z's like a. A saw that like you're sawing logs. And I never counted sheep either, so I don't know. We come up with these corny things, but, you know, you grow up with a different vernacular.
Seton
You know, back in the day, counting sheep might have been a little more, you know, relevant, I guess. I don't know.
Dan Patrick
But what about sawing logs there? Yeah, Paulie, I just looked it up.
Paulie
Of course, sawing logs.com. sawing logs was used all the way back in the 30s and 40s for snoring. Loud snoring. Sawing logs. Like the motion of us saw a band saw.
Dan Patrick
I would never think about that, that it would be like, well, you know what that sounds like, you know, when I'm sawing logs out in the back. Yeah, Seaton, when your wife snores, you're not thinking about that. You know, somebody sawing logs.
Seton
No. Tonight, though, when she does, I'm gonna be like, what are you, a lumberjack?
Dan Patrick
Are you Paulette Bunyan? Yeah.
Seton
I'm gonna start calling her the Lumberjack.
Dan Patrick
Then. How about we take a break? Steve Tasker will join us and he was going to join us to wrap up the season. Now he's going to join us to talk about where do they go in their coaching searches. Sean McDermott's been fired. Take a break. Back after this. Vamos cuatro iPhone 17 sin intercambio todos vamos estrenar iPhone. Hi Termino. So the Buffalo Bills need a new head coach. Do not underestimate the importance of the head coaching decision given that the Bills will be in their new stadium next season. This happens occasionally with teams moving into new stadiums. And I don't know if you're shocked that the Buffalo Bills need a new head coach. I guess there's a surprise element with this. Steve Tasker, former Bills Great. And part of the broadcast team this is our annual let's talk about how the Bills got eliminated from the playoffs, Steve. But there's, you know, interesting, interesting element added to this with Sean McDermott. How surprised were you that he got fired?
Steve Tasker
Very, very surprised. Yeah. In my, in my. Of course I'm, I'm one of those guys that played a long time in the league and appeared in a Super Bowl. Never won a Super Bowl. So you can take this with a grain of salt because I don't know what it is to win a championship, but having a swing at it every year is pretty important. I think The Bills were right there and. And most of the losses they've suffered during their 10 during Sean's tenure were almost so unique. He almost had a name for him. It took a really incredible. And let's say this on. In the Denver game this last week, and the Bills didn't. The Bills team didn't play well. Josh didn't play well.
Dan Patrick
The.
Steve Tasker
The defense didn't play well. You know, they just didn't play their best and almost still found a way to win that game. Yeah, it's a. It's a tough. It's tough because, you know, particularly I'm. I'm in the building every day and when you change, you know, it's a little bit like Dan. It's a little bit like the Dan Patrick show. Losing Dan Patrick.
Todd
Yeah.
Steve Tasker
There's a lot of people that are affected by it, and you can't take that for granted. It's going to be a big change in a. And a huge transition for the organization. You don't know what's going to happen the next. Next few weeks, so we'll see. But can't underestimate. You can't understate or overstate. I'm sorry. You can't overstate what he has meant to the franchise, what he did for him, the culture he established, what he's meant to the community, the example he's been to his players. I know his players revere him.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Steve Tasker
It's going to be an absolutely enormous transition process.
Dan Patrick
Was he in the building this morning?
Steve Tasker
I do not know.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Steve Tasker
I don't know. This is all we have heard, nothing official from the team yet.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Steve Tasker
This has all been reported from outlets that we know to be. And to know to be trustworthy. So. And it's all over the radio, obviously, here in Buffalo as well.
Dan Patrick
But you're in the building, but you haven't officially been told that Sean McDermott's been fired.
Steve Tasker
No. No. I would imagine, though, given the sources that we've heard from and the somber nature of the building, that is probably true.
Dan Patrick
Why did the Bills lose to Denver?
Steve Tasker
Turned it over. That's always been the bugaboo with this team there. You know, Josh obviously had a couple of bad turnovers. One, you know, the sack, strip fumble.
Marvin
Right before.
Dan Patrick
Right.
Steve Tasker
Be right after halftime. Is probably not his fault. The fumble before halftime that gave Denver three points. Yeah, absolutely. It was Josh's fault. The long interception down the middle. That's an arm punt. You can kind of live with that. But you can't overstate the fact James Cook going in, they were moving the football at will against Denver. Early on, it looked like he was going to get a Runway. And if the Bills don't turn it over the whole game, it probably is a runaway win. But they did five times. That's too many. And, and they paid the price for it.
Dan Patrick
But I wonder if, because everybody made a big deal of no Lamar, no Mahomes, no Burrow, it's wide open, you guys should be going to the Super Bowl. That raised the stakes here for Sean McDermott, certainly with Josh Allen. But Sean McDermott's the one who paid the ultimate price here.
Steve Tasker
Yeah, maybe. I still, I don't think you get to this point of the playoffs and don't meet good football teams. Patriots played an outstanding game against a really good Houston Texans game. Texas team. Certainly you can tell CJ Stroud doesn't belong in the same conversation as Josh Allen. In my opinion. Drake May has got a solid coaching staff and a great roster around him and has played extremely well. Very efficient all year. Stafford, same thing. So, yeah, that you can make a case that the, the, the, the deck was cleared from the quarterback's position, but you still got to beat the entire team. And it's still not going to be easy for New England to go into Denver and beat Jarrett Stidham. Although in hindsight, I mean, man, oh man, you shake your head at the twists and turns of the season. And this last one certainly has got to be enticing for Patriot fans going in there with, with Drake May, the MVP candidate, going against Jared Stidham of a New England draft pick back in the day.
Dan Patrick
And, and I know this is still fresh, this wound, but could you see a scenario where the Bills brought back Brian Dable as a head coach?
Steve Tasker
Yeah, I mean, he's a Buffalo guy, grew up here, you know, I know he's well thought of in the building. I'm sure they're gonna scour the, the landscape for the right guy. And I think even if it takes a little bit of extra time, one of the things that the Bills learned during the drought, it's not just about picking the right guys, about getting them to say yes as well. I think it's more important to get the right guy than to get the guy in the next week or Two weeks. Even if it takes three or four weeks or a month, if it's the right guy, you'll be fine even in the first year. So, yeah, Brian Dabel would be on the list. I think there's a number of guys that are on the list. They may not even go offensive guy. They may go leadership may go like a Mike Tunlem or Brian Flores or something like that as well. There are some quality, quality guys out there, really quality guys. But there's only 32 jobs and you've got one of them. And you got to make sure that the guy you get is going to fit not just the, the spot where you're at now, because there's a lot of guys that will fit with Josh Allen as their quarterback. You got to have a guy who's got a plan going forward.
Dan Patrick
Help me understand ownership there. They don't strike me as, you know, we're going to make a, you know, he's a quick decision on firing Sean McDermott. I don't know if they're reactionary in that way. He'd been there nine years. But do you think this was in the works? Do you think he was actually coaching for his job yesterday?
Steve Tasker
No, I don't think so. I don't think so. I think it's a little bit of exasperation and, and I think they probably got some. You know, there is a little bit. Even though each of these laws that I mentioned, it's hard to beat this team. I mean they're a tough out. They always, even during the regular season, they have to help you almost to get a tough out. But even that, that whole strength of through the nine years that Sean was here, that became a little bit of the characteristic of, of the team. So maybe they. To get out of that, of having these massively unusual and weird and close last minute weird official call, missed call, whatever you want to call them. That's the, that's the trait that they're trying to change. And they. And the head coach is probably that there is their answer to is Terry Pugula's answer to it. Brandon Beans answer to it. They do have all the losses have had a quirky characteristic that is always there. They're trying to find a way to get around that. I think.
Dan Patrick
Tough day for you. I know. Appreciate you joining us, Steve.
Steve Tasker
Yeah, I just tell. I'll say this Shannon was an incredible ambassador for Buffalo. I feel for he and his wife Jamie and all the guys on the staff because all these guys, all these coaches go into limbo on A per. I. It's, it's a little more personal for me maybe than it's ever been because Sean's been here for almost a decade. He's an outstanding human being. He'll be a little bit along the lines of the Mike Tomlin firing earlier this year. If he wants to work, people will hire him. But I'll say this, it's hard. It's hard to say goodbye to a place like this. It's hard for people in this building. Say goodbye to Sean, his family. They've been a big part of our lives and a lot of everybody in this building owes their job to him. Right. So it's a deeply personal thing. And, and I know that while we're, we talk about it in an, at an arm length level, it's a rough day here in the, in, in Buffalo. No question about it.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Steve. Steve Tasker, former Buffalo Bills all pro and part of the broadcast team. Yeah, you could hear it in his voice. You know, it's one of those where you're in the building, but you haven't, you're not in the know. You haven't been told that the head coach has been fired, that the insiders are the ones that have that information. But the people in the building. A couple of phone calls here and I wonder, is Josh Allen involved with the next coach that's hired? We saw this with the Ravens with their owner talking about Lamar Jackson, hey, you want to be involved in this, then you better fly up here. When we're doing these interviews here. Is that something that, I mean. And Josh Allen has certainly earned that right of who are you bringing in? Are you bringing in an offensive minded person or is it going to be. I don't see Mike Tomlin there. Brian Flores feels like he's going to get a job defensive coordinator, but do you bring back Brian Dable? You're going into a new stadium. So there's a lot of things that go into this. Yes.
Marvin
Marvin, the next head coach of the Bills, he's on a shorter leash. Right. Because the expectation is you got to take us over the hump. Almost like a John Gruden, Tony Dungy situation.
Dan Patrick
Well, Baltimore, I mean, the stakes are pretty high there. It's not just make the playoffs. How about we win a couple of games? Yeah, I would think so. The Steelers stakes are high. It's not just make the playoffs, it's win a couple of playoff games. Buffalo, same thing. You're going to get into the playoffs. Now what do you do when you get into the playoffs? Yes.
Marvin
Mark, are you putting the Steelers in that conversation? Because football wise, they're not at the same position as the Ravens.
Dan Patrick
Franchise wise, they are.
Marvin
Oh, no, no, I'm with you completely. But that's almost like say, 20 years ago I took the Notre Dame job, but they won six games last year. But still they're Notre Dame. So it might be the same situation with the Steelers, right?
Dan Patrick
No. They make the playoffs every year. They have a winning record every year.
Marvin
And they overachieved, though.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And some. Yes, I think they did this year. I do. TJ in Texas. Itj Best and worst of the weekend.
Caller
Hey, Dan, Kind of a bummer to follow that Tasker interview, but I'll do my best here. I was fortunate enough this weekend to probably see the coolest sporting event of the weekend, regardless of all these playoff games. I was able to go down to San Antonio and watch Wendy and Ant go toe to toe. And let me tell you, that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. I'm almost 50 years old and you know, I grew up in the 80s, Bird, Magic, all those Jordan. But watching those two studs just go back and forth was incredible, man. And I had to give, I had to give you a call and just, just, just put it out there in the world. How, how cool that was. That was, that was amazing.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Didn't Ed have 55? He's still a curiosity to me. Like I, I think he's a great talent, but I don't know if he has like that it factor. Like we don't talk about him in the MVP conversation. And it's almost like he burst onto the scene and we go, man, that guy is good. And then all of a sudden, you know, there were comparisons. He has Jordan like qualities, but it, it doesn't, he doesn't get mentioned. When you say best players in the game, it's almost like you go, oh yeah, and Anthony Edwards as well. He's got charisma, but like Wemby's in front of him. You still have Joker when he comes back. Sga. Oh, do you see where Durant now is the sixth all time leading scorer in NBA history? Kids, pull up jumper mid range. Don't be afraid. Don't be afraid.
Marvin
Yes, Mars, but going back to Anthony Edwards, but in the playoffs he gets busy. He's eliminated LeBron, he's eliminated Kevin Durant, he's eliminated Joker during one of his MVP seasons. So you're right. During the regular season, you know, he puts up a nice 24 night. But then when the lights are brightest, he goes to work.
Dan Patrick
Can Durant get into the top five in scoring, Paulie?
Paulie
He can. It'd be tough this year. He is 730 points behind Michael Jordan. Perhaps you. Two, 100 behind Kobe. That's tougher.
Dan Patrick
Well, he's going to play another year. I mean, right? Barring injury, as they like to say. Yeah. Gibbs in Virginia Beach. Gibbs, thank you for the wedding invitation that you sent us.
Caller
Thank you, Dan. At the risk of sounding like Nicole in Texas, I got a couple of things for you. Best and worst of the weekend. Again, I don't want to pile on the bills, but Sean McDermott getting fired 48 games over.500. I believe that's pretty tough to take. Obviously, he's had some notable playoff losses, but still a great coach. I'm sure he'll land somewhere. And Monica and Raleigh stole my thunder a little bit. But big ups to Drake may be in the bright spot for Tar Heels football with a win for New England. Dan, I do want to thank you for calling out and recognizing our wedding. I look forward to seeing you in April. You can kill two birds with one stone. And come see James in Virginia. And because. Because you were wondering, is James the same on air as he is every day? I got a call from James as he was walking into his building at work, and it was, hey, Charles, how was the cookout this weekend? Hey, Monica. I love the baby pictures. I mean, it's James all the time. So I hope we can see you in April.
Dan Patrick
Well, thank you. I checked my calendar and I'm. I've got two weddings in April. Yeah. Man, I would have loved to have been there. You know, I get so emotional, Gibbs walking down the aisle, probably crying.
Marvin
Yes, Morph, you should send Dylan down.
Dan Patrick
Dylan would probably go. He's a great wedding guest, but he wasn't invited. I mean, Gibbs did send me the wedding invitation. It was very nice. Let me take a break. We will give you our best and worst of the weekend. Coming up, Albert Breer, the Monday morning quarterback, he got a little bit busier this morning as the Buffalo Bills now need a new head coach. We'll take a break. We're back after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports.

The Broncos would have been a 1 point favorite if Bo Nix Was playing. The Rams are getting two and a half in Seattle and Miami. They're getting seven and a half against Indiana coming up tonight. There was part of me that was thinking that the Bears were going to go for two, but they were at home. And I thought, you know what, you're in this game, don't lose the game. And I thought the defense was playing well enough where, okay, they're not running up and down the field. But I did wonder about that with, would they go for, would Ben Johnson go for the two point conversion? But I think he thought as I did, hey, we're in this game. And the play that will be talked about for a long, long time and that is Caleb Williams with the touchdown. Do we have the. Here's the play by play call of Caleb Williams.
Todd
Rams show blitz. They peel off Comet.
Dan Patrick
Left snap to Williams. Williams backing up, being chased, going way back now back to his 40. Loves a pass into the end zone.
Todd
Cole Comet caught the ball, ducks down.
Dan Patrick
Left corner of the end zone.
Todd
My goodness, the Iceman did it one more time.
Dan Patrick
Bears are down a point. 17, 16. 4th and 4th and magical. I text Paulie after that. I said the Rams deserve to lose if you're, if you're going to let the tight end get behind you in the end zone. I just think the secondary didn't think he could make that kind of throw. And it was one of those where you go, oh my God. And he didn't have a great game, but, but he's not afraid of the big moments. And that's what I love about him. I mean, that's his second playoff game and, and Ben Johnson is going to put him in position to succeed. You know, it's, it's a great marriage. I know people doubted if Ben Johnson was the right guy or Caleb Williams, you know, was worthy of being, getting all this attention. And the answer is yes. Yes to both of those. Ben did a great job. And you know, look at vrabel and Mike McDonald. Like, you don't just go in there and turn teams around like that. But now we look at John Harbaugh, well, why can't the Giants be with the Patriots? Were. By the way, speaking of Mike Brave, all the Buffalo Bills made it official. Nobody in the building knew. There was nothing official. But now they just put out a statement that says Sean McDermott has been relieved of his. Dude never fired. It's relieved of his duties. By the way, Mike Vrabel, who was hired 372 days ago, is now the longest tenured coach in The AFC East. Wow. Oh, you're joking. Wow. Wow. All that stability, coaching. Mike Vrabel, man, he's been there forever. 372 days. Let's go around the room. Best and worst of the weekend, Toddler.
Todd
I'll make this brief. No shock. Going to the AFC title game and beating Buffalo. The best. The worst. Bo Nicks getting hurt. And we'll see what happens with Stidham, Seaton o'.
Dan Patrick
Connor.
Seton
My best of the weekend is Mike Ray, Bull. That's a hell of a turnaround. Coach of the year for sure. My worst of the weekend, Josh Allen. It's really not worst, but seeing Josh Allen just how crushed he was and then seeing the locker room react to how crushed he was or they're crushed, that was. That was tough. It seems like a really good group there, you know, a tight, close knit group of players.
Dan Patrick
And now they need a new head coach.
Seton
And now they need a new head coach.
Dan Patrick
New head coach. The guy who helped create that culture.
Seton
He created that culture there. Yeah, yeah.
Dan Patrick
Marvin. Best and worst of the weekend.
Marvin
I'll start with my worst, obviously. My 49ers getting mollywopped by the Seahawks. Best of the weekend, your favorite band? My favorite band. Our favorite band, Green Day. They're going to be doing the opening ceremonies for the big game in San Francisco.
Dan Patrick
What's the opening ceremonies?
Marvin
Basically, I guess like the pre show concert.
Dan Patrick
Oh, can we reach out to Billy Joe Armstrong and see if he'll join us when we're at the big game?
Todd
Absolutely.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. That way, you know, he can scold me if he wants to about me with my Green Day opinion. Right, Todd? Yeah.
Todd
He got back to me and said, wake me up when September ends. I don't even know what that means. It's games in February. I'm not sure.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Todd Paul.
Paulie
Best of the weekend, Jaquan McMillan. Broncos defensive back. That play, no matter what you think of the call, was unbelievable. To stay with it and he saved his team's entire playoffs. And then the other one, the K' Sean booty booty calls. We're calling it the touchdown catch with the Patriots. That didn't look real. He had two fingers on that ball and held on to it. It was stunning. Stunning.
Dan Patrick
I had to watch it from another angle because I thought, well, he didn't catch that. But boy, gave it a great try. And you're going, no, he caught it. He caught it. By the way, I. Speaking of musicians, I went to see the song Sung Blue. The now. It's not a Neil diamond biopic. It's about a couple, and they create the Neil diamond experience. And they're from Wisconsin, and they become a big deal in Wisconsin. Kate Hudson's wonderful Hugh Jackman does a great job as a Neil diamond impersonator. But Kate Hudson can sing and took the wife there yesterday morning. Nothing like a morning movie. So we can get. She goes, why are we going so early? I said, so I can get back to watch football. You get out, you know, daylight. Love seeing a day movie, but it. I thought it was. It was really well done. Tasted. Tasted. It was National Popcorn Day.
Paulie
Oh.
Dan Patrick
You could bring whatever canister container you wanted. They were going to fill it up with popcorn.
Todd
That's fantastic.
Dan Patrick
Yes. There were people who had those Lowe's buckets, and they had storage bins. They had a bucket, and they just filled it up with popcorn.
Seton
How much popcorn can you eat during.
Dan Patrick
I. Well, I don't know. And do you ever get to the movie and you. You still eat the popcorn, it feels like during the previews, and then you're done?
Seton
I eat it. I'm done within 10 minutes of the movie starting.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I don't even get to. We didn't get to the movie. Just watching the trailers. Yes.
Todd
Todd, is it okay to bring leftover popcorn home, or is that kind of sad? You just throw it out, whatever you may not have eaten because you bought too big a thing of popcorn? Well, if you spend that much money on it.
Caller
No.
Dan Patrick
It's $5 for all the popcorn you wanted.
Todd
Normally it could be like, you know, 8, 9, 10, $11. Like, you feel like you should almost bring home the rest of it because you spent so much on popcorn.
Dan Patrick
It is expensive to go to the movies. Two small sodas and $5 popcorn, $17. So even with that, it's still. It's tough. Yes, Yes.
Seton
I went to a movie theater recently where you. Can you sit at your seat, food and stuff like that. And that was bizarre. That was really weird to me because, like, you would be sitting there watching this movie, and then a waiter would come through and say, excuse me, did.
Steve Tasker
You order the chicken fingers?
Seton
I have a quesadilla here for someone.
Dan Patrick
Quesadilla. There you go.
Seton
Oh, now. Okay, I'll be right quiet.
Todd
I'm trying to watch the movie.
Dan Patrick
Well, my wife and I, we had a couple next to us, and they were talking through the movie, you know, where they're asking questions, they're answering questions the whole time. The whole time. And it's one of those where you kind of go, you know, didn't work, but they're. They're telling you how it's going to end and. Oh, my God, is she going to lose her leg? Oh, wait, do you really think that that's. And I'm going.
Todd
Oh.
Dan Patrick

Stat Impact: Daboll’s impact on the Bills offense was drastic.

Quote from McDermott on Officiating:
Sean McDermott (09:51):
"It would seem logical to me the head official would walk over, want to go and take a look at it, just to make sure ... That’s too big of a play...to not even slow it down."
Replay Protocols: Uncertainty around why the play wasn't officially reviewed more closely.
Fan Calls: Touching moments as fans share personal stories and reactions—sobriety milestones, heartbreak, and hope.
Bo Nix Injury: Real-time reactions and confusion as the serious nature of the Denver QB’s injury comes to light.
Most Sleepless QB: Poll question: Which quarterback had the roughest night after losses or injuries? (Josh Allen, CJ Stroud, Caleb Williams, Bo Nix).
Dan Patrick mixes serious analysis with his signature blend of nostalgia, humor, and empathy, especially when connecting with long-time listeners and guests. The team is candid, lightly irreverent, but always respectful—especially in emotionally charged moments like the Tasker interview.
