Then we'll get to the phone calls. A lot of people want to talk about the NBA and LeBron. I see NBA phone calls on hold. I said that it's a three headed monster and there's gonna be a fourth team that makes it to the divisional round. And it's gonna be like a really nice moment for the organization. Like, good for you. You, you made it to the second rounds of the playoffs. But let's not be fooled here. Kansas City Chiefs are the one seed. They play in that divisional round automatically, as you know, as Andy Reid dressed up as Santa Claus and Mahomes and Kelsey made the world hate and love them all at the same time.

I was gonna say, Rich, speaking of my Darth Vader helmet, are they turning to the dark side a little bit? Because again, when I'm on the plane, I'm just reading feedback. A lot of people hating on their subtle arrogance after the game.

Danny. There was a sense of I hate them.

Yeah. Patrick Mahomes said he was watching his diet and he didn't want to eat the football cake. We're like, bro, you're famous for your dad bod.

Yeah.

Trying to cut back on the calories. Yeah. So I'm gonna lay off the cake right now. But we pretty much dominated the whole game and I got a cool jacket on right now.

You see, you see RG3 in the post game. Barry is facing that cake. He was like, I'm like, damn, it's.

Not the first time he's buried his.

Face in some cake. You're probably right. So your thoughts on Netflix, your thoughts on the NFL, but let me just finalize the AFC playoff pitcher thought Kansas City and the super confident and they should be Kansas City Chiefs 15 to 1, they get the buy. After that we talked about, it's all about Buffalo and Baltimore and those two teams that have elite talent. Lamar, Josh Allen to your MVP candidates. It really doesn't get better than what the AFC is bringing right now with those top three teams, Kansas City, Buffalo and Baltimore. After that, the four seed.

[Steve Covino]

By the way, Lamar Jackson wasn't eating any cake either. I don't know if you saw that to be fair. Yeah, he turned it down. They just said, hey, prove that it's cake. And he opened up the football and it was cake, but he didn't have any.

I'm just saying.

What do you think, guy from Stranger Things. How about you, Squid Game writer? So you got the four seed as the Houston Texans. We saw yesterday. As much as you like to root for C.J. stroud and that team really did turn around their organization faster than you thought postseason for a second year in a row. They can't compete at that level. And I'm not saying anything we don't already know. When you put the Houston Texans up against the three elite, they're going to fall flat. Then the five seed Pittsburgh, you saw what happened yesterday. Couple balls could have bounced their way in the first half. And Mike Tomlin even pointed it out. If you want to beat a team like Kansas City, they can't fumble and have the ball bounce right back into their hands. You can't drop two interceptions. You can't, you can't do those type of things and expect to compete. And then you say, well, the two wild cards after that likely going to be the Chargers and the Denver Broncos to ASC west teams. The only way I see any team making any like, ooh, making some noise might be if the Cincinnati Bengals slip into the playoffs. Because I don't know if you're aware of how the Bengals somehow, some way could have a shot because they played the Broncos this coming week. They win that game, they end against the Steelers. If Joe Burrow and the Bengals slipping at 9 and 8 and they're clicking offensively, that could be a team like, oh man, maybe Cincinnati gets hot at the right time and that was a playoff expected team. But to me it really is the dominant three headed monster of the AFC. Mahomes Lamar, Josh Allen.

[Danny G]

Bengals have a 24% chance right now to make the playoffs. If they got to win out, obviously, then they need a lot of help.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, but the help they need, the Denver help they need isn't that bad because Denver has to play the Bengals. So burrow, that's a must win obviously. And then the Chiefs go to Denver. So unless you think the Chiefs are going to rest everyone, which they might not, Danny, because they have a bye week. So if they don't play people week 18, then you tell me you want my homes. Kelsey and Hollywood Brown who's just getting acclimated. You think you want to rest them for three full weeks, then they also.

[Danny G]

Need the Colts and the Dolphins to each lose.

[Rich Davis]

They need help. But when you look at the schedule, Cincinnati, it's not crazy to think that they slide in. So your thoughts. And then let me throw in the NBA now, Camino, because I know people want to talk about that. LeBron James, after what many called one of the better Christmas games ever.

[Steve Covino]

Dude, it was crazy back and forth in that game. Crazy back and forth.

[Rich Davis]

LeBron comes out on top and he said this.

[Steve Covino]

I love the NFL. I love the NFL.

[Rich Davis]

But Christmas is our day. Is Christmas, the NBA's day.

[Steve Covino]

And did the NBA actually win it? They may have, just based on that Lakers Golden State warriors game and the lopsided scores of the NFL that we already discussed. Lakers win 115, 113. But that back and forth at the end sort of had you at the edge of your seat. Steph Curry hitting shots. Lakers still win it. But I think what upsets you is the fact that, you know, the NBA could be that all the time. It just isn't right. You know what the NBA is capable of.

[Rich Davis]

And it's that take on your anniversary when your wife does all kinky stuff. You're like, you can do this all the time if you want. Right? It's a good analogy.

[Steve Covino]

That really is a good analogy.

[Rich Davis]

I mean like, just like that. I mean spot when the NBA delivers like that, you're like, you can't do this all the time. What? You decide to do this a couple times a year. Wait, that's usually off the table.

[Danny G]

Well, Steph was still chucking up threes with his eyes closed, but he made that one at the end, which was amazing. LeBron and Steph were vintage NBA All Stars. LeBron with 31, Steph with 32. Almost identical stats for both the guys.

[Steve Covino]

At the winning.

[Danny G]

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Cove the. What stood out about this is what we've all been screaming and yelling. Drive to the hoop. We want to see more dirty dunks and we want to see players go to the rim. And Austin Reeves took the ball and drove for the final seconds there instead of chucking up a bad shot.

[Steve Covino]

Got lots of props on that. It was nice to see, like Danny G said, and it really did remind you that the NBA is capable of some excitement. Man, that was a great game. A lot of history there. The Lakers come out on top with a. Like Danny G said, a cool bucket from Reaves. Some great shots by Curry. You know, if you want to go. What was more exciting, Rich? The NBA did sort of win in that sense, but overall, the season, the NFL wins. But what. What do you think about what LeBron had to say? Is really what we're asking here.

That's my. That's my three. Yeah, I got Cincinnati. I would love to have Cincinnati come in there in the end, but like y'all said, they need a lot of help. The holiday hat trick. That's one of the best names I need for whenever y'all do a little two in a space and then another one. And also for the NBA. I think the reason why the NBA has such a good model is because they're there. They have enough games to where they have these spaced out events where you can tune into those events. Christmas Day All Star playoffs, you know, with. With the NFL being only 17, 16, you know, games, you're more or less in tune to being paying attention to every single one of those games and kind of following those games. The NBA has, you know, enough to, in those moments like Christmas, like yesterday, a slew of great games. And you know that they're capable of those every so often. You just can't pull it out every, you know, all 82, you feel me? That's why, you know, NBA, MLB is so kind of shaky with 162 games. But they're changing their model, so, you know, that's basically it.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, great points, bro.

[Steve Covino]

Great call. And, Rich, I got to give you props, too. That was a great bedroom analogy. When it came to the NBA, you are left feeling that way. That was a Christmas classic. And real quick, my thoughts on what LeBron had to say. It would have rubbed me the wrong way hadn't they won and hadn't they delivered in a Christmas classic in that way. But I think there's some truth to what he said right there. Based on that game, if you want.

[Rich Davis]

To make it less smutty, you could say, generally, in a relationship, when a guy does something romantic, a lot of times a wife or a girlfriend is thinking, see, you have it in you. You just choose not to be romantic. Like I said, someone gets kinky in the bedroom on your anniversary, a lot of times you would think, like, you know, we could do this on a random Wednesday night. It doesn't need to be only on special vacation occasions or something like that.

[Steve Covino]

Dude, that's the exact feeling I had when I saw the Lakers beat the warriors in that back and forth. I'm like, the NBA is capable of such. Of so much excitement here. You know, where they can be more exciting than the NFL.

[Rich Davis]

I don't want to be conspiracy guy, because as much as I love Jesse Ventura, the Denver Airport, Area 51, I'm not Conspiracy Guy. JFK. I'm not a conspiracy guy. But would it surprise you if you were to say, get win that Adam Silver called up both teams and was like, yo, bring it.

[Danny G]

I don't think he would need to do that for a Christmas game.

[Rich Davis]

I'm just saying, like. I'm not saying, like, scripted or anything like that. I'm saying, would it chalk you of. Adam Silver is like, all right, Christmas day, guys. Commissioner here, yo. But you guys, you know, a lot of stake here Christmas day. Bring it.

I think every.

Danny's right. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised, Rich, but I think everybody sort of knew that and felt that.

[Danny G]

Yeah. When you see Starting five on Netflix, Jayson Tatum was upset last season because he had to leave his family, and they were trying to get to the game and everything. But he said, all the eyes. We know the whole world is watching our game. So he was excited for that reason. And I think that's the mindset of most NBA players. Steph, you know, he thought that he finished with 38, by the way. And LeBron always turns it on the.

Last 30 seconds of the game.

[Danny G]

Yeah, right. And Lebron always knows when you know he. How many households he's visiting. So those guys didn't need any reminders.

[Steve Covino]

LeBron Santa Claus. Now it's easier when you're sleeping too. It's weird.

He's got the Santa beard now.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. On Christmas Eve, my kids and I were watching LeBron Tracker. Oh, no way. You know, let's take, let's take a.

He's on the 405.

Let's take a call from Andy and five hours. Andy wanted to talk NBA. And earlier in the show, Kavino, you talking about that lost gift from your childhood where you always wanted to like, where did it go? What's up, Andy?

Oh, so the way I look at it with the NFL, it was great. I think they learned a lot from the Tyson and Logan Paul fight to really. No Jake Paul. I mean, I'm sorry about that.

You know, not have any buffers happening during the live stream pre recording videos. Out of the question. And I just like to sprinkle this in. LeBron and Steph Curry, they are the gift that just keeps on giving. And honestly, what is the NBA going to do when they are not here?

That is a great question.

Fall off like it did when Jordan retired. You need your star.

Now they're. They're stars. But we talked about this previously on Fox Sports Radio where some of the stars either don't want to be stars or there's like a cultural disconnect or like a disinterest in like a Luca or a Jokic or you know, some of these European players don't have that.

Bam. You nailed it. As great as Jokic is and no one will deny his greatness. What are my horses? He's not the guy that's going to be the face of the NBA. That's going to get you tuned in. It's just not going to happen.

[Rich Davis]

By the way, that's it. That, that's, that's unbelievably the sad story of so many of parents generation. Right? Like how many times baseball cards.

But now currently Pokemon cards. Rich. I hear that all the time.

Like mom, you threw in my Pokemon. But yo, Aaron, you ain't kidding. There was a. I feel like it was our parent generation. If you're roughly 40, your dad was probably collecting Mickey Manels and Roger Maris's and Jackie Robinson's and your. Your grandmother threw them out.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah, but you, Rich, you made such a good point before all the crap they kept, right? Like, you decided to keep the pogo stick and the croquet set, but for some reason, you had to throw away my basem cards and my, you know, whatever was valuable to me. But for every, like, valuable item that ended up becoming more valuable, there was like a Beanie Baby that, that you didn't need. So I was like, it was the Princess Diana Beanie Baby. You didn't know.

[Rich Davis]

You know what? You know, my wife and I had this dumb thought when we were wrapping presents for the kids the other night, and you look at unopened toys from our childhood, and now they're super expensive. Like, look, an unopened he man. Or even at the original iPhone. The iPhone one unopened is like tens of thousands of dollars in auction.

[Steve Covino]

Yeah. Ken golden, probably.

[Rich Davis]

Is it ever your instinct. Is it ever your instinct to be like, should I buy a couple random things and just not open them?

[Danny G]

Do you know, my. My grandmother in Long beach, she threw away my grandpa's Playboy collection, but in her garage are old roller skates and skateboards with steel wheels, like metal wheels that are rusted.

[Steve Covino]

She kept those. That's the commonality here. I think that's the greatest point we've made so far.

[Rich Davis]

Your mom threw away all your sweet Yankees memorabilia, but she kept your. She kept your social studies notebook from eighth grade.

[Steve Covino]

Dude, that's the truth. Yet she has my Trapper Keeper upstairs for some reason in the attic. I want to make this point before we move on. We have so much to get to on the Cavino and Rich show and for Dan Patrick, LeBron James and what he said. I sort of like that, man. I think that's the kind of attitude you have to have in anything and everything you do. Because if these guys don't care, then why should we care? And I like that fight and that pride that LeBron James expressed in his Lakers, in his game, essentially in the NBA. He was defending the NBA there. And that's like you and I defending radio. Like, if someone says, yeah, man, you know, with streaming and podcast radios dying, you as a radio host, what would you say was like, you're wrong.

Audio entertainment, all time high. And you start getting defensive and.

[Steve Covino]

Right. Because you have a pride in that. Right? And I don't have any sort of bad feelings when I hear LeBron take ownership and pride in the NBA there. I sort of want that from the face of the league. I think he's doing what he's supposed to be doing. He delivered on the biggest day. I think that's a great sign that he's like, yeah, I love the NFL. And he said it respectfully.

Because who doesn't love.

It garnered some speculation and some eye rolls. But honestly, he did the right thing there, and I think all of us would do that and something that we all take pride. And that's what you want from a leader and from, again, the face of your organization.

But the CliffsNotes version of the last half hour of conversation. Netflix did a fine job. LeBron and Steph delivered. Yet you go on social media and there's still hater, hater, haters. There's still people hating. And it, to me, guess what, Rich Dane.

It's fascinating that on a day where you're probably opening gifts with your kids, it's a joyful day. You got to see some rando family members. You were wearing your pajamas all day. Like, what. Why do you. Why is your instinct to hate? Just think about that as you move into 2025. Why lead with debt stinks.

The broadcast was clear, the graphics were good, the game sort of stunk. But.

But you had to acknowledge the fact that she brought out some stars. Post Malone was there. It was an extended halftime and some would argue more entertaining than a lot of NFL halftime shows. So you know what? Beyonce, that was probably a big win for the NFL. I don't know. I think it's hard to not come across as a hater. If you, like, yesterday stunk, it was Christmas. Who stands the test of time? We'll get to that. Of course, a lot of NFL today on Kavino and Rich. It is that time of year. Though the NBA did make some progress yesterday. LeBron and Stephen really, really, really delivered on a big stage, which you sort of expected. But it showed. Like we said, if you're capable that do that more often. That's all.

Now I'll give you one last analogy, too. It's like when you know what Spot shows up to, like a birthday party or something and he has his hair combed and he looks all handsome. Yeah, look at Spot. Look how good he looks. And the rest of the week looks like a hobo.

Yeah. It's like, hey, man, if you're capable of looking so handsome and dapper all the time, why don't you just do that? I reserve my effort, honestly.

You know, Big Mike, the guy that runs iHeart and Fox Sports Radio. He said it's glorious, and I agree with him. This sounds like a dirty statement, but it's not. He said around the holidays, when you're wearing the same, like, hoodie and sweats for a couple days in a row, and you're like, I'm gonna forego a shower. It's the only time where you don't feel gross. You're like, you are just in veg mode. And I really agree with him.

I still have my Christmas candy cane underwear on.

Yeah, I was gonna say, if you're wearing the same clothes as you wear. No, I don't spun. If you're wearing the same clothes as you did yesterday, I find no shame in that. I'm okay with that.

I have a question for you, though, based on that. We already titled this the Ain't Quite the grundle. The grassy knoll. The space between. Yeah, if you know what we're saying. The space between the holiday season, between Christmas and New Year's. It's that weird time of the year where you just veg out, you lounge around, you eat, and you don't know what day it is. Do you hit the gym, like, today?

[Rich Davis]

I'm thinking about doing it later, but it really is more of a. So I don't feel like a complete piece of trash, but I really am a firm believer in I don't want to be the guy that's like, I'll start and pick a later date. Because I think that's, like, lazy mindset. However, I'm not abiding by my own words because there's no way I want to start this new thing, F45. It's like an orange theory, CrossFit type. It's like a class spot. You said it was pretty good, right? It's great.

[Steve Covino]

There's a class pretty much every hour.

[Will Scott]

[Rich Davis]

I mean, I've tried. And it's not an ad, by the way.

[Steve Covino]

Even the day after Christmas, I've.

[Rich Davis]

I've tried. I've tried all the group classes and everything from the Orange Theories to the crossfits to the. All those type of things. So I don't see a purpose in starting one now when my house is full of leftover cookies, steak from last.

[Steve Covino]

Night, a lazy day, or is today, like, can you get back on track? You can't do both. I mean, if you're gonna be lazy, today's the day to do it.

[Rich Davis]

Well, I was also talking to Big Mike. I mean, the guy's got great ideas. He runs this place. We talked about the quality and the importance of something I don't do enough of. So I can guarantee other people listening are with me on this. You don't value the staycation enough. Because a lot of times when we vacation and take that random time off from fox Sports, from SiriusXM, from our podcast, when we take a few days, I'm stupidly in the mindset of, like, all right, babe, we gotta go to Hawaii or Mexico or, let's go here with the kids. Let's go to Disney. What I'm appreciating about this week, between Christmas and New Year's, we're filling in for big shows like DP and Colin next week. But we have a couple days off here and there, and I'm not going anywhere for the most part.

[Steve Covino]

Fantastic.

[Rich Davis]

And I think a lot of times you feel this pressure where you're like, I work my ass off. I got jobs. I'm providing for my family. When I have time off, well, damn, I better go somewhere cool. And sometimes doing nothing is so underrated.

[Steve Covino]

Well, Rich, maybe, you know, based on that, there's a balance there. Instead of, you know, going to Cabo for the entire getaway instead of going to Tulum, instead of swimming in a cenote for seven days, maybe you go for five days and then have two days at home to actually do stuff and lounge and be lazy around the house.

[Rich Davis]

Dude, you're so right on. But I think most people, and I say this confidently, most people tend to do the stupidity that I do, which is, oh, I have, you know, I'm taking three days off of work all Right. I'll piggyback that to a weekend. And honey, let's go to. We'll go to the Bahamas for five days, four nights, and you get back.

[Steve Covino]

Late Sunday night and you're exhausted at work that next week.

[Rich Davis]

And you know, I think the holidays, unless you're traveling to see family, is very, very quality staycation time. Because everyone's at least got one day off or two days off. And then, you know, between the last two weeks of the year, no one's working every day unless you are like a workhorse.

A lot of people have been anticipating this for a while. This has been in the works because you remember, this was just at the tail end of COVID This was Netflix.

[Rich Davis]

Most streamed show ever, international, internationally. Squid Game was huge. In fact, I remember these idiots, you know, the same guys that made fun of me over my Taylor Swift hot take. I remember them mocking me because I said I watched Squid Game before I went to bed. And it was all creepy to me, just the whole concept.

[Steve Covino]

That's not what you said. Hold on, please. Squid Games. I put on an extra S for Steve. Squid Game. Steve Cavino here. What this bonehead said was, oh, my God, this is before we had watched it. I watched his show, Squid Game. He goes, I couldn't sleep last night. Gave me nightmares. Gave me nightmares. I'm like, wait, gave you nightmares? I said, that's what he told us. Oh, wow. I was like, my daughter. I think my daughter said she's watching that. Oh, my goodness. You should. He made me feel like I was a bad parent for letting my teenage kid watch this because it gave him nightmares.

[Dan Patrick]

You were discretion advice.

And I watched it. I'm like, this gave him nightmares.

[Rich Davis]

I'm saying the concept of softy pants. The concept of all these desperate people putting their life on the line because they just want money to me nightmares. I don't think give me nightmares. Maybe I'm. Maybe I'm a weakest wimp. I don't.

Just overly dramatic about it. A great show. I'm not downplaying the show. I thought it was really great. You know, I feel like it's sneaking up on us to the point where I'm not as excited where as I should be. Danny G. For as much as I like the original squid. Squid Game, you know, that gave us nightmares.

Ivan liked the game show that was based on the show, but they didn't kill the people.

[Danny G]

Obviously, I didn't like that. I felt like they should have inflicted real pain on those contestants.

I feel like there's no food coloring.

You know how they waited too long. What's that show? I even forgot the name of it. The show with Pedro Pascal.

All right. By the time the last of us comes back, I don't even remember what happened. I don't even care that much.

Well, a lot of people are reading. Yeah, I was just gonna say a lot of people are reading a recap. I saw a headline of Read this recap. So you're ready for season two, and this is probably a good time to go back and watch the first one over again before you start.

Netflix has to start paying us a little something for hyping up their show because I feel like I need. And I also feel like it's maybe our job to hype people up and get excited about it. I am not that excited. I'm sure I'll like it, but I feel like there was no. Like, hell yeah, man. It's coming back.

I'm pumped. I'm gonna. I'll probably watch a couple episodes tonight, but I'll check it out today. Squid Game. I'm sorry. Squid Games, Season two, and you really got me, bro. No, there is something. I was about to cop on you, but now I might not. I was gonna say there is something to be said about what Cavino just brought up. When there's too much of a break in the action and you got to go back on YouTube and start watching search recap of season whatever of that show, then you waited too long, bro.

It's like Colin Kaepernick's not coming back. It's been too long, man.

But to spin it positive, at least it's back. There's some shows where we're waiting and waiting and they never do another season.

Danny, I started watching season two of a. You and I both love shrinking on Apple TV. Season one was three years ago. So I did have to go to YouTube with the wife and be like, let me search. Is there someone do a five minute recap of season one when you have to do that, they've waited too long. But that's another great show to watch. But here's the question, Camino. It will be trending number one between now and New Year's. You know it. Squid Game season two.

Like, I do think there should have been a physical punishment. I'm not saying, like, beat their ass, but, like, you see those shows like Wipeout and stuff like this physical game shows, like the fact that it was based off of Squid Game.

Yeah. At least, like, should have at least been a deep bruise and then you're out. And then because they were doing bad acting, like falling to the ground. Like they were. I wanted to see some real acting where they were injured.

Honestly. You're right. They should have had a real paint gun, not like a little patch on their chest.

Well, a fun question based on the game tonight that you could pose amongst your friends when you're palling around during this holiday break.
