It's actually a meet Wednesday because we're going to do the show tomorrow. And then we're traveling to Atlanta to shoot Celebrity Family Feud. And Seaton got a hold of a chef, Chef Jack from Miller Light. He's also the chef for the Buffalo Bills. And he came in, came out of the bullpen. Enter Sandman. And he is provided smoked beef tenderloin, tacos char, grilled Miller Light salsa verde. Who has it better than we do?
Dan Patrick
Nobody.
Nick Wright
All righty. Stat of the day. Yes.
Dan Patrick
So you know what I love about Jack? Jack Mancuso.
Nick Wright
Okay. He is not a chef.
Dan Patrick
He's a grill master. And he sort of say he's just sort of like a guy in his backyard grilling meats.
Nick Wright
That's pretty great. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
He has. I don't think he has any, like, real formal training. I don't think he has any. You know, he's never worked in a restaurant or anything like that. He's kind of just a guy.
Nick Wright
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
But he's really good at this.
Nick Wright
So no culinary school?
Dan Patrick
I don't think so.
Nick Wright
Maybe. Maybe he's watched the Food Network, maybe diners drive ins and dives.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, perhaps.
Nick Wright
Yes.
Dan Patrick
Paul, I think we need to come up with a new name for someone like that who's kind of a meat artist or something like that. If you're a wine expert, is it sommelier?
Nick Wright
Yes.
Dan Patrick
And a beer.
Nick Wright
Todd says Somalia. Somalian. From Somalia. They all come from there.
Dan Patrick
And A beer expert is a cicerone. I think a cicerone, if you're an expert on beer, you have to be trained on it. We need a term for an expert on meat. Cooking meats.
Nick Wright
Okay.
Dan Patrick
Beyond grill master.
Nick Wright
All right.
Dan Patrick
Because cicerone sounds cool and sommelier sounds cool.
Nick Wright
Sommelier does. But I don't know about a cicerone.
Dan Patrick
I think that's the term.
Nick Wright
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
For a beer. Yeah.
Nick Wright
I haven't. I haven't. I haven't heard that. Todd, why don't you come up with something for a meat artist? I'm gonna work on that. Okay. Thank you. Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of this program. Gangs all here. Minister of Humor, Fritzi, you got Seaton, Marv Polyers. Truly the back room guys as well. And a big day for the commissioner of Major League Baseball yesterday as he said that the permanently ineligible list no longer has Pete rose or the 1919 Black Sox. Doesn't mean Pete's getting into the hall of Fame anytime soon or getting in at all. We'll talk to his former teammate, Johnny Bench, who join us next hour. Our good buddy Nick Wright from Fox Sports, everybody. He'll join us in 15 minutes. Everybody seems to be. Not everybody, but a lot of people are coming up with a trade proposal that will send Giannis to the San Antonio Spurs. And I'm curious about it because it feels like San Antonio is building something and it's young. And we've seen this with the Houston Rockets, okc. Do you want to give up? What are you giving up? The number two pick. And you're going to give up some future first round picks? What else? Some other players, some salary dumps. And you're going to get Giannis. Okay, I just don't know what. Giannis and Victor Wembanyama, how they complement each other. I mean, this isn't Akeem Elijah 1 and Ralph Sampson. But I. Look, Giannis is one of the three best players in the game, certainly a top five player. It just seems like there's. He, he, he had that polite way of saying, hey, I'd entertain a trade. Which means, you know, in his polite way of, yeah, trade me. The question is, who has the assets that Milwaukee would want to give up? Once again, look at the trade from both sides. We tend to look at it as one sided. Boy, wouldn't it be great if the spurs got him? Meanwhile, the Bucks fans are going, who are we getting? And you know, Stefan Castle was the rookie of the year. You know, he's, he's kind of flawed. He's not a great shooter, but, you know, he had a really good year for them. You got de' Aaron Fox there. Maybe, maybe, you know, that is the destination. But I'm trying to figure out how many teams have the assets to trade for Giannis. And Nick Wright has a proposal. Nick will join us coming up a little bit later on. All right. 8 7, 7, 3, DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP show the Knicks are underdogs tonight in the Garden, four and a half point underdogs. Warriors are 11 point underdogs against the Timberwolves. And I think this is the end of the dynasty. They had a great run, but I don't know, is Draymond back? Is Jimmy Butler back? That whole transition of those young players kind of moving in and taking the baton never really materialized. But you're an 11 point underdog against Minnesota. You know, Minnesota is a somewhat young team. OKC is a young team. Houston's a young team. You can go around the west and you start to handicap this and you go, where do we fit in if you're Golden State? Where do you fit in if you're the Lakers, Everybody trying to get younger and your two best players with Steph and LeBron, you know, in the twilight of their careers. And these young teams, you know, if they add like one veteran player, that could be the difference with some of these teams. And OKC is, you know, the big favorite now to win the NBA title. They beat Denver last night. Joker was wonderful. The problem is he didn't get much help. And Indiana did it again. First team in NBA history with three playoff wins after trailing by at least 12 or more points at the end of the first quarter. And the Cavs lost three home games in a postseason series. That, that was for the first time in franchise history. Shea Gil just went for 31. And the Thunder, they survived. Joker, who went 44 and 15. So he is the first player to have 40, 15 games in a playoff series since Shaq did it. Sad. Patrick, shut the hell up. Against the Kings back in 2001. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's gonna be a weird off season in Golden State. It's gonna be a weird off season in Boston. It'll be a weird off season for Milwaukee. It'll be a weird off season in Denver because you don't want to overreact, okay? If you lose, Cleveland can say, we were banged up and they were, but, you know, Indiana came in and I think they. They Jumped on Cleveland, surprised him, and they came back from double digit deficits. Having that kind of maturity in the playoffs, it seems imperative because it feels like there's, there's so many different shifts, seismic shifts. With I'm down 20, we're up 20 now what do you do? Don't panic when you're down 20. When you're up 20, don't be overly confident. And we've seen that throughout the playoffs and, and that will continue because of the three point shot. All right. We spent a lot of time in the first hour talking about Pete Rose and the chances of him getting on the ballot. And it's a, it's a veterans ballot, and the first time they're getting together is December of 2027 to just vote on who would be on the ballot. This a long way from Pete being in Cooperstown, his family giving a speech in his honor to go into the Baseball hall of Fame. All right, poll question for hour two is going to be what? Seaton.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, we got a couple up there right now. Let's see, we have. Do you agree with Rob Manfred's decision? Yes or no. Pretty simple. Right now, 69% do agree with letting Pete Rose or, you know, lifting the lifetime ban, whatever.
Nick Wright
However, we're phrasing the permanent ban.
Dan Patrick
Permanent band. Thank you. More likely to get a gentleman sweep tonight. Knicks at Boston or Timberwolves versus the Warriors. Right now, Timberll is running away with that one. 75%. Nobody's got faith in the Knicks. Even down, Boston down. Tatum.
Nick Wright
Yeah, but Minnesota's hosting. Yeah. Golden State. Where's the Celtics? And you know, this is your last gasp. You know that crowd's going to be into it. They don't want the Knicks to advance by winning in Boston. Yes, I'm trying to.
Dan Patrick
And if I could be as sensitive as I can with this. So I'm not trying to be rude about someone who's injured, but does that say more about the Knicks as a team or Jason Tatum as a player? That, that the, that Boston is still favored?
Nick Wright
I know they're home.
Dan Patrick
I know. But still, I mean, you would think that a superstar like Jason Tatum being out, but still, I mean, eat into that home court advantage somehow, I would imagine in a pretty big way. Is that more about the Knicks as a team or him as a player?
Nick Wright
I'd be curious what the Celtics would be favored by if Jason Tatum was playing in this game. Would they be favored by eight? Eight and a half? Nine. Yeah, Paulie.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I see what Seaton's question is Complex, because it's a bit of a slight of Jason Tatum, because anytime you say blank is out, they have no chance. You would say Steph Curry or the Joker or Giannis. You don't feel that way with Boston. Maybe that's more of a complement of their supporting cast, right?
Nick Wright
Oh, yeah, that's a great team. I mean, he's. He's the best player on a great team, but there's still a really good team, dangerous team without him now, you know, now is when Jalen Brown. I mean, you're paying the guy $250 million. How about you give me 30 and 12 or something? You got Derek White, you got a. You know, an Olympian. Like, this is when everybody else has to step up. But this roster will look a little different. I don't know if it's going to be a big transformation there in the off season. Yes, Marvin. Correction. Jalen Brown's making $300 million. Oh, okay. He should give me 30 and 15 then. Something like that. You know, great players step up in these moments that that's all you ask. I mean, that's what I expect out of these guys. And like Jimmy Butler in a previous game, I think he had, I don't know, took eight shots or something. He should have 25. I don't understand that. We need you to be playoff, Jimmy. Be great. Yes. Mark. I think with Tatum being out, I think people have the Celtics being the favorite just for this game. Yeah. I think just in a one game scenario. All right, they're going to be full of adrenaline. Derrick White's going to take shots, Drew Holiday is going to take shots. Poor Zingis Horford. So they have a really stacked team, but I think game six is when. All right, I think that's enough. Okay, let's say Boston wins 10197 and then the series goes back to New York. What would the Knicks be favored by? 3 and a half. Only 3 and a half? Yes. Okay. Paulie, can you check that?
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Nick Wright
We could speculate. We can find a guy. I would think. I would think five and a half. But that would be interesting. If it's only three and a half and Jason Tatum's not playing, somebody's going to step up. Somebody going to be a hero tonight. Or they have to be a hero tonight. Yes.
Dan Patrick
Paul, we've done this before. If you are a Knicks fan who.
Nick Wright
Had game six tickets at home, I want to. I want to clinch tonight in Boston.
Dan Patrick
Eat the tickets.
Nick Wright
Yes. Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yes.
Dan Patrick
I wonder if everyone Agrees with you.
Nick Wright
Don't mess around. Do not mess around. Don't, don't, don't. Bob in Ohio. Good morning, Bob. What's on your mind today? Hey, Dan.
Dan Patrick
Long, long time listener. Six two, around round 350 and just.
Nick Wright
Want to say I've been listening to.
Dan Patrick
You since around 2000, 2001.
Nick Wright
I've only called the show twice. They were both about. It's been both a long time ago. It's both about Pete Rose.
Dan Patrick
I think you've said a lot today.
Nick Wright
And I just want to say, you know how sad it is you never did own up to that and apologize.
Dan Patrick
And you were just left wondering how.
Nick Wright
A different thing would be if he.
Dan Patrick
Would have done that.
Nick Wright
And then real quick, point on Jason Tatum. I honestly think the Celtics are better off without him.
Dan Patrick
I don't mean to kick a guy.
Nick Wright
When he's down, but Russo made the comment yesterday about him having sticky fingers and at the end of games, he just takes too many poor shots. I swear in that second game, last five or six times down the floor, he wouldn't pass the ball once. And I think for the series, not just for the first game, I think we're going to be better off. All right. Well, thank you, Bob. Yeah. Pete should have apologized and said to Major League Baseball, what do you want me to do? And I think he would have been in the hall of Fame. I really, really do. As for Tatum, if you don't want him, I'll take him on my team. He's a great player. Now, does the ball stay with him sometimes? Too often? Yes. But then it's weird because don't you want the great players to want the ball in those situations? So I, I can't ask for one thing and then all of a sudden say, pass the ball. You want him to want the ball. The problem is, and we saw this with his ball handling in previous playoffs where he did not have a good handle. A lot of turnovers there. I just think, watch the Pacers play, okay? And this is a homework assignment. Watch how they move the ball. Really, really good at moving the ball. Spreading the floor. Now, I know that's not exciting. I'm just saying, you know, humor me. Just watch how they move the ball. And their shooting percentage is really good. They, they don't have a great player. They have a bunch of, you know, B B plus players. And Halliburton is played like an A minus player. He's been, he's been big in big moments here. But if you watch them play, then you get A better understanding of why they're successful. Donovan. Mitchell. What? What? What's going on?
Dan Patrick
It felt Hall a very goodish with the entire Pacers roster.
Nick Wright
Yeah, they are.
Dan Patrick
It's sounds like a collective haul of good.
Nick Wright
Yes, they are B pluses. Yes.
Dan Patrick
But Halliburton is dining out on the criticism of him not being clutch and.
Nick Wright
Having a very clutch month. Being overrated.
Dan Patrick
Overrated. Yes. He's dining out on that this month.
Nick Wright
Well, he can eat at any restaurant in Cleveland, that's for sure. Dining out on them and in Indiana as well. Yeah. Yes. Marvin. Yeah. I can't wait until the conference finals. Man. This Miles Turner guy's pretty good. Pascal's the outcomes. Good player. But no one's watched the Pacers all year long because they're not a sexy team. We asked for maybe a name for our chef that's here. He's a meat artist. I said, you know, Todd, do you have any. Can you come up with a title for a guy who is not a chef? Not really a cook. He's just a guy who grills in the backyard who happens to be in our kitchen right now. We've got Flanker. Like a flank steak. Flanker. Sirloin of smoke. Okay.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Nick Wright
Sergeant Porterhouse instead of Sergeant Slaughter. Sergeant Porterhouse. Okay. Butterfly snooker. Like your butterfly steak. Butterfly Snook. Another WWF great. Captain Jack Mancuso. He's the guy that's here today for Miller Light Cooking. Captain Jack Mancuso. T. Bone pickens, Beef Wellington iii.
Dan Patrick
You're off to a good start.
Nick Wright
What do you.
Dan Patrick
What's going on?
Nick Wright
I don't understand Filet and his minions or his mignons. Filet and his Mignon. It's a. It's. It's a title. I know, I know. I had Run around Sous chef. Keep away from Run Around Sous Chef and Ashton Butcher. Those would be some names.
Dan Patrick
Just call me Ashton Butcher.
Nick Wright
Thanks. You totally missed the homework assignment. I know it was supposed to be like sommelier, but a steak meat Sirloin of smoke is. Is okay. But I should have known. Sommelier. Somalia. I still think they're all from Somalia. I don't know. That's why they call. Oh, I know when we had a sommelier come over and then Todd goes, so how did you become a Somalia? And the guy goes, what, you fly here? Is there a boat? How do you get it? I like to ask how people travel to and from places. I'm the captain now. Yes.
Dan Patrick
And it was unfortunate that also in about the same five minute span, if even five minutes. The Todd refer to that man as a Somalia. But he also asked for the red canoa bowl.
Nick Wright
I did ask for that. I know, I know. Meanwhile, what's that? I know. Try the canola bowl. Canola bowl? Is that like chicken in that? Because I'm looking for like a protein dish. I'll go canola. All right, let me take a break. Nick Wright, our good buddy, will join us coming up, more phone calls as well. Johnny Bench in an hour from now. We're back after this. Dan Patrick Show. We'll talk to the hall of Famer, Johnny Bench on the news yesterday, with Pete Rose taken off the permanently ineligible list, Nick Wright, host of First Things first on Fox Sports 1 Monday through Friday every afternoon. And what's right with Nick Wright on YouTube and wherever you get your podcast. Great to see you. Did the commissioner have a good day? Commissioner of Major League Baseball have a good day yesterday?
Dan Patrick
Wow, this is. Have you. Before I answer the question, have you. I didn't hear the top of your show, did you? You're kind of, you know, one of, if not the current godfather of American sports radio. Did you have a moment of silence for should Pete Rose be in the hall of Fame? Topic, like potentially dying, being gone. It's been, it's always been a go to, if need be, break glass in case of emergency for your entire career. And those days may be numbered. I don't even know what to compare this to, but it is. It's like if you did a talk show about, you know, should they tear down the Berlin Wall? And then it's announced it's coming down, like, what are we going to do here? So, yeah, I think it's a good day. And I also think maybe I'm just, oh, I'm obviously not an idiot, but maybe this is an idiotic opinion. I thought it was obvious that once a guy dies, a lifetime ban is over. I thought the whole point of it was, like, while he's alive, he can't be a part of it.
Nick Wright
But it was not a lifetime ban. It was a permanent ban. People. People misconstrued what the ban was. It was a permanent, not lifetime. Now, the commissioner has since altered that language. Now it's a lifetime ban.
Dan Patrick
So, okay, so that bad job by me. I didn't realize that, but, yeah, I think that's what it should be. I. I think we've talked to this for a Hall of Fame should be museums, in my opinion. And I. If you want to, in theory, you should be able to go to a Hall of Fame knowing nothing about a sport. And if you spend enough Time there. Get the full totality of the history of it. Maybe it'll take a month. Being there 10 hours a day. I don't know. So I, I just thought. I always thought there were obvious things. Like I thought that if you wanted to include on plaques of certain guys played in, you know, a segregation era, played in what is commonly known as the steroid era, was banned from the sport due to gambling. Like those things, like that's part of the story. But I don't like the idea of we're just gonna act like these guys didn't exist. And I also don't like the voters, you know, the way they have treated the steroid guys. Because to me, it is short. Changing this what the hall of Fame is supposed to be.
Nick Wright
Yeah, I'm with you on the museum part of it. And I don't think anybody has benefited more than Pete Rose did by not being in the hall of fame for sure 25 years ago. If he's in the hall of Fame, we don't bring up his name. But it became a campaign and a crusade. I do think the commissioner, Major League Baseball meeting with President Trump may have had a quid pro quo where Donald Trump wanted him in.
Dan Patrick
No, that's not like him.
Nick Wright
Are you.
Dan Patrick
There's no. You don't think quid pro quo with this administration. Well, your lips, sire. I. What a scurrilous allegation.
Nick Wright
I know.
Dan Patrick
With any, with any data whatsoever. This is why people don't trust the liberal media.
Nick Wright
Media, Dan.
Dan Patrick
My God. But go ahead. Sorry.
Nick Wright
Yeah, but I think Pete getting off the list, you know, people think this is just going to be rubber stamped. He's going into the hall of Fame, which he still has to go through this committee that doesn't get together until December of 2027 and just to get on the ballot. So I, I think this is a long process. I do think Pete will get that opportunity. But I would put Shoeless Joe Jackson in before Pete or put him on the ballot before Pete.
Dan Patrick
Can I ask you a question? And then I know you want to get to other things and this might. I'm putting you on the spot. So I apologize.
Nick Wright
Okay.
Dan Patrick
Did you like Pete Rose?
Nick Wright
I loved Pete Rose. I didn't always like him.
Dan Patrick
No. So you, I mean, you. I knew as a player.
Nick Wright
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
That. But I'm like. I assume my only interaction with Pete Rose my entire life was my grandparents lived in Boca when I was a kid and my granddad was a horse better. And he would sometimes take me to the track and we'd see Pete Rose there all the time. And one time I said hello, I assume you had maybe dozens of interactions with him. And I'm just curious if, like, if you liked him, because I, it doesn't, it's an odd thing because even people who think, like, I think that he should be in the hall of Fame, I don't think viewed him as a super sympathetic figure or even that necessarily likable of a figure.
Nick Wright
Well, it didn't help his case that there was no act of contrition. He never apologized. He never said, how do I make good on this? How do I help Major League Baseball? Had he done that, I think he would have already been in the hall of Fame. And we'll talk to Johnny Bench. Coming up next hour, a couple other things I want to bring to your attention. I don't know if you heard about we were doing the hall of Very Good in the NBA, so I don't know if you have. And you always like to do tears on your show in the afternoon. I don't know if you had a Hall of Very Good, like Joe Johnson, let's say Jamal Crawford. There's guys who probably aren't going in the hall of Fame, but the hall of Very Good.
Dan Patrick
So I, so I love that. But when it comes to the NBA, that, to me, is really applicable to the NFL because there's a lot of legends that aren't ever going to make the Hall. If we had, if I were doing it with the NBA, the way I would do the hall of Very Good is taking a bunch of guys who are actually in the hall out and putting them in that hole. Like, I, the, I mean, there are.
Nick Wright
There'S too many in the Basketball hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
Right. To where it's almost as if, if you have a noteworthy career and you're not considered it, like, I'll give you an example. Al Horford might make it.
Nick Wright
I think he will because of the two titles in Florida.
Dan Patrick
Well, right.
Nick Wright
Throw that in there, too.
Dan Patrick
Yes. And, and listen, everybody likes Al Horford. Isn't. I'm, it's kind of mean of me to pick him. But it just came to mind at no moment in his entire professional basketball career were you like, man, shoot, we got Al Horford. Like, he was a good player for a long time and he'll probably make it. As you said, like, there are, Hola.
Nick Wright
Very good. H, O V, G. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
I mean, I, at this point, like, Jalen Brown is damn near a lock, like, for the, and he's 28 years old and it's so, yeah, I. So I have very controversial opinions on this, which is.
Nick Wright
So we.
Dan Patrick
Another thing we do on the show, free plug is Club Superstar for the NBA annual event opening again end of May. And it's 12 guys maximum, which means like, oh, shoot, is Tyrese Halliburton now in Club Superstar? And if the answer to that question is yes, somebody's got to come out. I wish that's how a Hall of Fame worked. Like, listen, there's 96 hall of Famers or whatever the number is.
Nick Wright
So, you know, relegation in your hall of Fame.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I mean, you can't support this because it'd be so bad for your guy Reggie, but it would be very exciting. It would be very exciting if it was. Now you can say every, you know, decade, because the league numbers expanded, we add five total new spots or whatever. But guys who like got in the skin of their teeth, they get to have the ceremony, they get to have the plaque, but they know I'm probably just keeping somebody seat warm, which I think would be cooler.
Nick Wright
We're talking to Nick Wright, host of First Things first on Fox Sports 1, and what's Right with Nick Wright on YouTube. Wherever you get your podcast, give me the situation. The most awkward off season situation with let's say Milwaukee, let's say Denver, let's say Golden State, Boston with, you know, exits from the playoffs and moves that might be or need to be made, trades that need to be made.
Dan Patrick
Well, I mean, I can go one by one, if I may. Boston, what happened to Boston in the last 72 hours is, you know, a sports tragedy in that they, they thought, maybe rightfully so, that we went cold. The first two games were better than the Knicks. We're obviously better than the Cavs. And I think, listen, the Pacers last. People forget last year, the Pacers conference finals, Halliburton got hurt early, game two. And so we didn't really get to see that. But I'm sure they felt comfortable we're going to win the championship and be in good position, maybe even for a three peat. Now, the next time Jason Tatum plays basketball, Al Horford won't be on the team. Kristaps likely won't be on the team. Drew or Derrick White might not be on the team. And that team that people were talking about, that team pairing away even if they win because of the finances of it. So there's that. I think Denver, even if they lose this series, has done enough to where they can feel better about their direction than they did when they Fired Mike Michael Malone, obviously. And you're seeing just enough from Strother and Watts Watson like maybe they get better and you hope you get a healthier. Michael Porter Jr. I think golden State is finished now. I've said that before and you know Draymond's made fun of me and that's fine. But I, I do Anybody trying to concoct a Giannis trade to Golden State doesn't understand how the CBA works and assets work. So I just, I don't see a and I don't think Jimmy Butler's getting better. I, you know what I mean? I think we are seeing that at 35 years old playoff. Jimmy has real limitations. I think Milwaukee here is the other part of the Tatum injury. Does that give Giannis pause where he's like, maybe I give this one more year like the Cavs are the Cavs, by the way, are a second apron disaster. I have a thought on them in a second. The Celtics are self eliminated. You know, I, I, I'm gonna train all summer with just a picture of John Halliburton, Tyrese's dad in my in. You know, for motivation. Maybe the east do if I'm Giannis, do I want to go west where Honest to God, Dan, if you were to list if Giannis goes west and Tatum is injured, if you were to list the 20 best players in the NBA, 16 would be in the West. Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Tyrese Halliburton and then Jalen Brown. Jalen Brown or towns like is that okay those everyone else is in the is in the West. So does Giannis want to do that? And so I think all that's fascinating. I also think because of everything I just said year 23, go back home, win a title with Cleveland or at least make another finals is something for LeBron James. Oh, it's something that you couldn't go there if they won 64 games made the finals. But when they just keep getting clocked in round two and it's like, oh, who's your starting three? Max Struse. I think I'm an upgrade. I think I would help out a little there. Now the real question there is what do the Cavs have to trade to get Bronnie? Because Rob Bellinger gonna hold their feet to the fire on that one, boys.
Nick Wright
What do you think trying to handicap LeBron? You want to win one more title? You're not going to win it with the Lakers. Well, I listen not I don't think how they're they're Constructed. I think Austin Reeves is probably the movable piece there, but I. I mean, you got to get a big guy, correct. And I don't know, would you trade.
Dan Patrick
Austin Reeves straight up for Malawatch, like the. The. The kid out of Duke? So say he's gonna be the ninth pick.
Nick Wright
Yeah, I just.
Dan Patrick
Now, the.
Nick Wright
I mean, he's. I. He's got to develop, and now I got LeBron.
Dan Patrick
That probably. Yeah. I mean, that, to me, makes a lot of sense for the Lakers. For Luca, like, you know, a young defense, catch lobs, block shots. Yeah, the. But for LeBron, I don't know. I. So listen, I am such a Luca Doncic believer. I know that, you know, half the NBA fans seem to think he's just a fat alcoholic. I think he's a guy who carried a mediocre team to the finals last year. I think he'll be fine. I thought. And I. It has broken like this for a while that I. That the way the bracket is broken, that I thought the Lakers had a really good chance to come out of the West. And now when you see it, like, you're like, oh, maybe they did. The problem is they played terribly and Minnesota played great. So I don't. I think. I don't think they'd be drawing dead as long as they added a big going into next year. But obviously the east, that path is wide open right now. And so I. Yeah, the Cleveland thing to me is worth pondering for a moment now. He'd have to basically play for the minimum, and we know the rules on LeBron James. If he plays for the max, he's greedy, and if he plays for the minimum, he's rigging it. So he's gonna get criticized either way. But I think that's something that would be worth considering being in New York.
Nick Wright
Are you caught up on the. The Knicks hysteria? Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah.
Nick Wright
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And I. Listen, I'm no. I'm no Dan Patrick. I don't get free tickets to things. I'm buying tickets to these games. Really, I'm bought. Yeah. Because I don't ask for press passes because I feel like. I don't know, man. Like, I'm. I. I don't want. I. I don't want to feel like, ah, they did me a favor. I own this whatever. And I'm not covering. Like, I'm not covering. I'm not going in the locker room. You know what I mean? I'm not covering the games. So, no, I buy tickets. And so I went to game two against Detroit. I went to Game three against Boston. So I've actually been to two Knicks losses. But yeah, it is exhilarating. And the city feels an extra verb because the thing is this, the Knicks are the only team that everyone in the city roots for, like Yankees, Mets, Giants, jets, you know, Rangers, Devil's Islanders. And I know people are like, what about the Brooklyn Nets? The Brooklyn Nets don't have fans. They don't.
Nick Wright
And so season tickets to the Brooklyn.
Dan Patrick
I did have season tickets to Brooklyn for a year because I did listen, I wanted to watch KD and Kyrie and Harden, but I, I got rid of those once they got rid of those players. But the Garden is really just unlike any other spot. And it is. Yeah, I mean the. So yeah, the city feels very alive. Are you coming to any games?
Nick Wright
No.
Dan Patrick
This guy once you.
Nick Wright
I mean, I could.
Dan Patrick
The trophy at the finals.
Nick Wright
You're right.
Dan Patrick

Nick Wright
Join the shut in club. I had a urethraplasty. Oh boy. There's.
Dan Patrick
There's only 27 surgeries in the world that can even do it. So they had to harvest 8cm of tissue from the inside of my mouth to rebuild my urethra from bladder to exit. Imagine where you would make a 4 inch incision to have to repair the urethra.
Nick Wright
Yes. What seton Can I ask without being.
Dan Patrick
Too personal, but okay, why not? Why did your urethra need to be repaired? In 2009 I had an appendectomy and standard procedure. They put a catheter in unstandard procedure. When they removed it they did not.
Nick Wright
Deflate the balloon so they shredded it.
Dan Patrick
Oh my gosh.
Nick Wright
So it was actually medical malpractice too.

Dave in South Carolina. Hi, Dave. What's on your mind? Hey, good morning, Dan. First time, long time. 62195. So I want to talk to.
Dan Patrick
I wanted to talk this morning about Pete Rose getting into the hall of Fame.
Nick Wright
I know that's a topic that's been brought up for, you know, the last 35 plus years. What's your take on it? I've already given my take on it. If you listen to the first hour of the show, you'll get my take. That's been basically the same take for 35 years.
Dan Patrick
Obviously it's a match on the field.
Nick Wright
Accomplishments.
Dan Patrick
You'd have to have 200 hits for 21 straights.
Nick Wright
No, no, I know the numbers. I know. I know all the numbers. Winning his player of all. We got all of that. This. This doesn't have anything to do with that. The resume is hall of Fame worthy. There's some baggage there. That's why he was on the permanently ineligible list. Now, they've since changed that. Now it's a lifetime ban. Life is over. Now maybe the ban is lifted. Sean and Daytona Beach. Hi, Sean. What's on your mind? Dan, thanks for calling me back. Long time, long time. Six foot. And as of this morning, 187.6. And I have a call about Family Feud. Get to that in a second. But came off a long road trip last night and the wife and I came home and watched. Just go with it. And I gotta thank you for Tanner Patrick as a guy who's hosted a lot of this contest in his life. You nailed it. Thank you for that role. Oh, thanks. Yeah, let's get coconutty. Now, as for Family Feud, I don't know if the gambling podcast has already been taped, but I think we need to get Dylan on this. Maybe Shay, we need some odds. What are the odds that Fritz, he's going to intentionally try for the viral moment? I, it won't be intentional, Sean. I can guarantee that. But thank you for the phone call. We're, we're going to have the gambling podcast. We're going to tape it today with Bad Larry, Shane, Irving and Dylan because once the show is over, tomorrow we're traveling to Atlanta. But, yes, there will be odds on what will happen in Family Feud. I'm going to guess the Eisen show is probably favored now. They seem to be a younger show and they're probably practicing an awful lot of. I'm going to approach this the way I did the SATs, and that's just show up Jay in Delaware. Hi, Jay. What's on your mind today?

Dan Patrick

Nick Wright
And he. All right, thank you, Jay. He cooked a real big stick, huge steak. Yeah. We have a grill master here from Miller Light. It's Grill Master Mancuso. Oh, yeah, Jack Mancuso. So he's out there on the Traegers right now on the ones and twos, and he's whipping up some steak tacos.
Dan Patrick
His videos are really good. They really are.

The Dan Patrick Show – Hour 2 with Nick Wright Release Date: May 14, 2025
Guest: Nick Wright, Host of First Things First on Fox Sports 1
Timestamp: 08:35 – 29:27
The episode opens with a significant discussion about Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred’s recent decision to remove Pete Rose and the 1919 Black Sox from the permanently ineligible list. While this move does not grant Rose immediate entry into the Hall of Fame, it paves the way for his name to appear on future ballots.
Dan Patrick reflects on the implications:
"We've spent a lot of time in the first hour talking about Pete Rose and the chances of him getting on the ballot. This a long way from Pete being in Cooperstown, his family giving a speech in his honor to go into the Baseball Hall of Fame."
(Timestamp: 02:05)
Nick Wright emphasizes the complexities surrounding Rose’s legacy:
"Well, it didn't help his case that there was no act of contrition. He never apologized. He never said, how do I make good on this? How do I help Major League Baseball? Had he done that, I think he would have already been in the Hall of Fame."
(Timestamp: 27:33)
The conversation touches on the procedural aspects, noting that Rose’s induction into the Hall of Fame will require a vote from a veterans’ committee set to convene in December 2027. Both hosts express skepticism about Rose’s chances, highlighting the enduring stigma from his gambling controversies.
Timestamp: 08:52 – 34:57
A heated debate ensues over rumored trade proposals involving Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially moving to the San Antonio Spurs. The discussion delves into the feasibility of such a trade, considering the assets Milwaukee would need to part with, including high draft picks and salary considerations.
Dan Patrick questions the strategic alignment:
"If you're Golden State, where do you fit in if you're the Lakers, everybody trying to get younger and your two best players with Steph and LeBron in the twilight of their careers?"
(Timestamp: 13:00)
Nick Wright analyzes the potential benefits and drawbacks:
"Giannis is one of the three best players in the game, certainly a top five player. It just seems like there's... he had that polite way of saying, hey, I'd entertain a trade."
(Timestamp: 08:35)
The hosts debate whether adding Giannis would complement young talents like Victor Wembanyama, ultimately questioning the nonsensical nature of pairing two superstars without clear synergy.
Timestamp: 11:30 – 42:16
The show transitions to an in-depth analysis of ongoing NBA playoff matchups, focusing on:
New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics: The impact of Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum being out due to injury. The conversation explores whether the Celtics remain favorites without him and how this affects the Knicks' chances.
Dan Patrick remarks:
"Does that say more about the Knicks as a team or Jason Tatum as a player?"
(Timestamp: 11:59)
Nick Wright responds:
"I think that's more of a complement of their supporting cast, right?"
(Timestamp: 12:27)
Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves: Debating the Warriors' decline and the Timberwolves’ prospects, especially with rising talents like Jalen Brown and Donovan Mitchell influencing the outcomes.
Playoff Performances: Highlighting noteworthy performances, such as Nikola Jokic’s outstanding playoff stats and the Indiana Pacers' historical comeback victories.
Nick Wright summarizes the state of the playoffs:
"It's gonna be a weird off-season in Golden State. It's gonna be a weird off-season in Boston. It'll be a weird off-season for Milwaukee."
(Timestamp: 14:50)
Timestamp: 15:01 – 51:16
Throughout the episode, listeners call in with their thoughts and opinions:
Bob from Ohio criticizes Pete Rose for not owning up to his actions:
"It's sad that you never did own up to that and apologize."
(Timestamp: 15:03)
Nick Wright counters:
"Pete getting off the list... people think this is just going to be rubber stamped. He's still got to go through this committee."
(Timestamp: 27:48)
Dave from South Carolina questions whether the Celtics can thrive without Tatum:
"Honestly, I think the Celtics are better off without him."
(Timestamp: 15:46)
Dan Patrick offers a rebuttal:
"He is a great player. Now, does the ball stay with him sometimes?"
(Timestamp: 31:19)
These interactions highlight the polarized views on Rose’s legacy and Tatum’s role within the Celtics’ framework.
Timestamp: 51:10 – End
Dan Patrick announces that Hall of Famer Johnny Bench will join the next hour to provide additional insights on the Pete Rose situation and MLB Hall of Fame considerations.
Dan Patrick concludes:
"We'll talk to Johnny Bench in the next hour. But thank you, Nick. Your insights are invaluable."
(Timestamp: 51:10)
The episode wraps up with a teaser for the upcoming segments, promising further exploration into MLB controversies and NBA strategies.
Notable Quotes:
Dan Patrick:
"The Hall of Fame is supposed to be museums. If you want to go to a Hall of Fame knowing nothing about a sport, maybe it'll take a month."
