I went last night and to wrap up my thoughts, if you go out for one of these teppanyaki, Benihana, hibachi type of nights, if you don't have a fun time, you're the problem. I really think that it is such an experience every time. It's not cheap. You end up smelling like, you know, onion volcano when you get home. What's that smell? You have to immediately throw those clothes in the hamper.

Yo. It's not cheap is an understatement. That's like, you go there once a year, maybe twice for somebody's birthday.

I want, you know, what is this Is this a crazy idea? I bought one of these for my backyard. One of these nice flat grills. And you got to take lessons. I'm thinking about taking lessons. I wonder if I took a few lessons. Like, there's got to be a hibachi school. I wanna. I want you guys to come over and I want to shock the S out of you and just be like, guys, come in the backyard, start flipping eggs and stuff. How long do you think that takes to learn?

[Rich Davis]

It's a lot of practice.

[Wes]

I think I like an ASMR with that sound of, like this, the metal. Oh, yeah, spatula. There's something about that sound and like, the food getting scooped up. It's like, it's very pleasing.

[Rich Davis]

It's always a little awkward, though, with the mixed company, because then you got pretend like you're friends for that one hour with, like, random people that are sitting there.

[Kavino]

It's a great place to go with seven other people because eight people cover. It's two on the end, four and then two. So if you have a party of eight, like two families or you and a bunch of coworkers. I grew Cavino strangers at a hibachi table, you get the wrong mix of people. It's like, oh, we're sitting these. Sitting with these weirdos.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. Like, the guy flips a piece of shrimp in his hat and no one cheers. Like, who are these lame Os? Get them out of my table. I don't want their face looking at mine when I'm enjoying this wonderful steak chicken combo.

[Kavino]

And I always tell the kids, like, you got to clap when he does the onion volcano. And as I said yesterday, I think you got to drop that guy at 20 and like, like, very east coast guido style. The guy that cooks the hibachi for you, give him a little. Thank you, man.

[Rich Davis]

Hey, that's big time, bro. Who are you, Daddy Stacks, bro.

It's a nice night. So any others you want to throw before we get into some NFL tyree kill?

The question is, and here's my only complaint. Yeah, I know. The entertainment is there with the chef. Yeah. But there's never like, hey, can I put that Is do you guys have the game on? There's no TV at those places ever.

But I have a question I need. What sensory overload do you need the show of?

Because it's a fun atmosphere. It's not like you're at a stuffy, you know, high end restaurant.

Are you being pandering sports guy right now out. You need a game on.

Every time I'm at one of those places, I definitely have my phone up watching, like, the Yankees or a fight or, you know, wherever.

You can't go out to dinner and not watch a game. I feel like that atmosphere is.

Is also conducive to have the game on.

What if it was TV monitors, but it was just more guys doing hibachi?

I don't want to sound insensitive here, but the. The location we have right down the street from us. Brenda and I took the family last year for a special occasion, and a couple tables, a couple grills away was Stevie Wonder. And I don't know if it was.

Well, I told Brenda, gave me a dirty look, because I'm like, he's. He's missing the show.

What are the other automatic no fails in life where if you take your family or a date and they don't have fun, they're not entertained, they're the problem. So this is an automatic Hydromatic. I got one.

And we. This, these are rules we've lived by for years. Rich Hibachi is like a great date spot, great family spot where you're almost guaranteed to have a good time. If not, something's not cool, something's not right. So hibachi night for sure. Like, who's not entertained? I'm like a six year old kid. Like, give me the hat. I want the whole experience. I love that stuff. I love when it's so much fun of me. It's so much fun. It's a no fail. Comedy shows.

If you can't chuckle at chuckles, something's wrong with you.

[Kavino]

If, even if the comics are bad, there's funny in them.

[Rich Davis]

Bombing a few drinks, they force you to drink. You're out and about, so you're already intoxicated.

So I just feel like even if you go to a comedy club and no one's really that funny, the funny is in the fact that no one was funny. Like, it's. It's hard to go to a comedy club and be like, man, that really stunk. Because even if it stunk, the funnies in, oh, my God, how bad were the comics?

[Rich Davis]

You might not do it that often, but if you're going out to a comedy show and that person you're with is not bring in a laugh or two, man, you're with the wrong person.

[Sam]

I have one and I know could cost money and there's some lines involved, but once you get inside, if you can't have fun inside an amusement park, you're the problem.

[Rich Davis]

I agree with you, absolutely. Yeah, I don't like rides.

[Sam]

Like at Disneyland, you see some here and there because most of the people in there having fun, but you see some people, you know, they got dragged into the park.

[Rich Davis]

But even, even if you don't like rides, right? And that was like my mom growing up, she always stood by the strollers or whatever. Like, come on, mom, you know, like, if you're one of those, there's still something, right, that for you to do. Like, at least enjoy the atmosphere, the parades, the food. What are those things called? Those pineapple things? Dole. What?

[Sam]

The dole whip.

[Rich Davis]

Enjoy a dole whip. Stop complaining.

I disagree with Chuck. Chuck hit us up and he goes concerts. Because if you get dragged to a concert of a genre you don't like. I got dragged to like a hippie concert once where it was like a bunch of stoners and like a gem band.

Rich and I together, we ended up at the. We had to do it for work. We ended up at the Rothbury Music Festival, Michigan. In Michigan. It was a bunch of stinky hippies.

[Kavino]

Stinky hippies with these sticks where they were hitting something back and forth.

[Rich Davis]

I saw more hairy armpits that day than I ever signed up for. What do they call those?

[Wes]

Like, the Jekyll stick or something?

[Kavino]

Whatever it was, I.

Like tacky sex and whatnot.

No, they smell like musty. No, they smell like old weed and like. And like. And like incense. Like college dorm room. Like a 1998 college dorm room.

Yeah, a little mix of patchouli oil and ass is what they smelled like.

All right, I have a question. And yes, this is a tie in. Because I am thinking, like, you know, events. No failed dates, things like that. What? Out of all the four major sports or event, like, which is the most fun for the casual, like, date? Non fan. Just trying to have a good time.

[Sam]

Baseball.

I think so.

Baseball, if you're courtside. Basketball. That's a. That's a statement.

Well, I think the sport I like the least is the most fun life. Basketball, hockey.

I go to one LA Kings game a year with my buddy Scott. He has tickets and he brings me once a year. Thank you, Scott. And I'll go. And in that moment I'm like, yeah, this is awesome. And then I go home and I'm like, all right, I'm not really watching hockey, but I'll. I'll go once a year. And I think basketball's fun. To be honest, the sports I like the least are the ones I have fun going in person. I'm. NFL's my number one, I think other than like once a year, like guys trip. Going to an NFL game live, you miss so much that you don't see.

[Rich Davis]

It'S better on tv.

[Kavino]

Football, such a great television sport.

[Rich Davis]

You're just there for the atmosphere.

[Kavino]

You're there for the fun and hanging with your buds or your family, your kids or something. I think football live stinks.

Seats, you know?

Even when you have. Even when you have good seats, like you're not seeing any. Football is such a great TV sport. Baseball, I love Danny, but there are games. Let's say it's eight one Padres in the second inning and you're there and you're a Dodgers fan. You're not like aggravated, like it's. I don't know.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, it's not baseball. I don't think it's baseball because I don't know, kids could get bored. Like kids.

[Sam]

A lot of first dates and a lot of young couples swear by Dodger game here in Los Angeles as a date night. I would say NBA, but going to a Lakers game and Dodgers are catching up really quick here as far as prices go. But you know, a lot of us were out priced a long time ago when it came to the NBA.

[Rich Davis]

For the record, if you're new to Covino and Rich, we're huge baseball fans, so we love going to baseball games. I'm just saying, is it an automatic where everybody's having a great time? I'm gonna have a good time. I like baseball.

[Sam]

Yeah. Seventh inning stretch the food there. You don't have to pay attention every minute. There's conversations going on between young couples. So I think baseball is a really good date night.

[Rich Davis]

My only complaint, you end up smelling a little bit when you leave. Trying to think of. You went the other day with your girlfriend. You guys went to, like, a melting pot. Like. Yeah, like some type of fondue place.

Anything like that. Or, like, Korean barbecue or Japanese barbecue. It is fun because you get the sake going, you get the beer going. Grill your own meats. You're around a table, friends, and that food itself, like, you. You leave feeling very satisfied, but not, like, weighed down and bogged down. It's like meats, proteins, and vegetables, you.

Know, it's not for. Though. It's perfect because there's someone here because we're in America, and someone can explain to you what to do.

I was in Japan. I'm a world traveler.

Would you say some type of topgolf type of place is a no fail, like just hitting a bucket of balls and having some, you know, food and drinks? Is topgolf a place where even the most even like, you don't have to be a golfer to hit some balls and have fun, though.

I agree with that. My only suggestion is this. I went recently in Idaho. There's one in Idaho and is. My girlfriend's from Idaho.

Unless you, you know, you Think you know what you don't. What do you think is a good landing spot for Tyree Kill? It seems like Minnesota, Miami's clearinghouse. Tyree kills out and you wonder what team is short that one big receiver that can make all the difference. And I have not heard anyone say the team that I think.

I think Purdy in moments Were like, oh, wow, all right. He's. He's getting better every year.

Kittle is shooting to be back Week one.

You look back, no complaints on Purdy.

Last year, week one, not that I remember. Kittle wants to be ready even if it's week four. You got Kittle back in the mix. McCaffrey, you're going to get Fred Warner and Bosa and all your defensive stars back. A couple guys stepped up last year. You know, big Trent Williams is coming back for another year. Seems like it seems like the same teams in place. What were the 49ers missing last year? No offense to Juwan Jennings, I like him, but he's not a true number one. He's a great number two wide receiver.

But he couldn't stretch the field.

[Kavino]

And Ricky Pearsall was hurt a lot of the year. So if you added the 49ers lack of one. I know there's rumors that a reunion with Debo Samuel, but that might. I feel like you're just adding another aging guy to an already aging team. I don't know. You don't think a deep threat like Tyree Kill could, could work well with a Kyle Shanahan offense?

[Rich Davis]

Tyree Kill, for the record, 31 years old.

Yeah. About to be 32 at the start of March.

Well, I don't. I don't know why you're not hearing any 49er rumblings. Maybe because the 49ers feel like they don't have the space, the cap space. Maybe they're thinking that type of guy. That type of guy doesn't fit into the Niners vibe.

It'll also be his 11th year in the league, so it's just a matter of how healthy he is and how willing these teams are are to take a chance on that.

[Sam]

Your Niners had a little bit of noise with your roster last year. Rich with drive bys of the stadium at 100 miles an hour. I mean, so you've had some players where maybe your front office and your coaching staff doesn't want any more headaches.

[Kavino]

I mean, think about it. The Niners are supposed to lock up Brandon Iuk and that never happened. He's going to be somewhere else. So the Niners could. That. That money's off the books now, so.

[Sam]

Hey, but Tyreek may play with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder coming back. And if he hasn't lost too much of a step where that's the thing, we're going to have to see how he is after, you know, he heals up.

And this is an interesting thought because I think Las Vegas, you think over the last decade or so a growing city. They just got a hockey team a few years ago, rumors of an NBA franchise. They got the Raiders, they got the A's moving to Las Vegas.

So you're thinking they got the sphere, they got a new slogan.

[Sam]

Hello. They have the Golden Knights and the Aces who have both won championships.

[Rich Davis]

They went from what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas to what happens in Vegas only happens in Vegas. Like they're trying to make it way more family friendly.

[Kavino]

I think that's the key. And I'll tell you why Vegas is dying. I don't think it. How could it be dying when it's. When all this stuff is being added.

[Rich Davis]

They're saying Penn and Teller just don't bring it anymore. No, here's the, here's the story. Let me read this to you. Let me know your thoughts. Las Vegas, their economy. Las Vegas's economy runs on parties, gambling, bottle service, social media, photo shoots, and that overall social vibe. For decades, this formula has shaped Sin City into an iconic destination. That it is. But society is changing fast. Enter Generation Z. The younger kids, the 20 somethings, the college kids, the youngsters.

[Rich Davis]

I thought they were the weenies, the.

[Kavino]

Teens that are turning into their 20s, right? This generation prioritizes healthy eating, fitness, and when it comes to traveling, they want to do it on a low budget. But like out of the country. Like they rather backpack in like Slovenia.

[Sam]

And they want their parents to still.

[Kavino]

Pay for it and they want their parents to pay.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah, they're also broke.

[Kavino]

Generation not all, but generation Z also drinks. Get this now you could say, well, a lot of gender Z can't legally drink yet, but they've accounted for this. They drink 87% less alcohol than millennials though you might say, well, they're not legal drinking age. They've accounted that into it. And they're saying that the idea of getting trashed and drinking and partying to a younger kid isn't appealing. They view it get this as irresponsible.

Well, I can't hate on them for being better than the previous generation. As far as health.

[Kavino]

The smartphone has replaced the lore of something like the Las Vegas Strip. Scrolling dominates everyday life. People still gam but now they do so on apps and from the leisure or you might say leisure of your own home.

[Rich Davis]

You notice too, everybody wants like a nice weed drink or like some sort of Kids are taking edibles. Mocktail.

[Kavino]

Can I have a mocktail? You know what's more popular than alcohol? Not more popular, but a growing trend.

It's the mocktail rage.

Less people are drinking and getting to get drunk. More people are having weed based, cannabis based drinks and mocktails. No alcohol. You go to a restaurant now you go to a fancy restaurant. I'm fat.

[Rich Davis]

That's they call California sober out here.

[Kavino]

On the west side, I'm fascinated by how many nice restaurants now on their sweet cocktail menu with like $20 drinks. They, they now a lot of them have a mocktail section where it's like, yeah, these are fancy drinks with no alcohol. People are sort of off the booze. So they're saying it's very tough for casinos. Maybe the city of Las Vegas with the sports franchises and the shows and.

[Rich Davis]

You know what else is probably taking part or causing this? There's a lot less younger people getting married. And if they are, they're probably like weenie guys who don't want to have like crazy bachelor parties in Vegas.

[Kavino]

They're saying very hard for casinos to convert visitors in a younger demo.

[Sam]

We have a son who is just out of college. And the reason he and his friends complain about going there because I know he's gone with his boys a couple of times. They don't like all the parking fees because they drive there from Southern California. And the taxes, they're like, oh, room, 50 bucks. And then after all the tourism taxes, it's $200.

[Kavino]

Listen, I love Vegas.

[Rich Davis]

Drinks are way expensive.

[Kavino]

I love Vegas, Danny. But our buddy Jamie in Boston Hit us up. And he said, you used to go to Vegas. And I don't. You don't want to sound like the old guy, but he's like, I used to go to Vegas. And even if you didn't want to stay at a sassy higher end place like the Cosmo or Bellagio, first time.

[Rich Davis]

I went there, I stayed at the Flamingo or something.

[Kavino]

You used to be able to, I'm gonna go to Vegas and pick your budget. You could be baller and stay at the Bellagio, you know, Cosmo Vidaran, you know, the Wynn or something.

[Rich Davis]

Go to Whiskey Peach.

[Kavino]

Or you could go to like Whiskey Peach, right? Or you go to Fremont Street. But guess what? Even those places now have like 10, $20 drinks minimum. So they're saying younger people have two priorities, health and not spending money. What is Vegas all about? Putting aside health and spending money. So it's a terrible equation for the younger generation in Vegas. There's just no, they're not simpatico.

[Rich Davis]

Well, you gotta pay timing for the Raiders and the Golden Knights and everybody else.

[Kavino]

I go to Vegas now. It's a little different. I'm a little bit more of a mature man. But when I was in my 20s, the age gen zers are now, I'd go to Vegas and my priority would be like, I'm gonna get trashed and gamble and go to like Spearmint Rhino. Kids now are like, yeah, that's too many calories and I don't want to spend money. So Vegas, I don't know what to tell you. I think maybe it becomes, Danny, a family destination with sports teams.

[Rich Davis]

They better start catering to older demographics.

[Kavino]

The smut and the gambling in Vegas is on the downfall.

[Rich Davis]

But that's probably why they've started to market it more family friendly.

[Sam]

And I don't think that, I don't think the vices are gonna go away rich. And it would take years for that to happen. If they wanted to go in that.

[Kavino]

Direction to become profitable.

[Rich Davis]

Oh, you forgot a major, major part of this. Unless you said it, I apologize. I was looking stuff up like the fact that younger generations are like gamble. I could do that from my phone.

[Kavino]

Yeah, I said that.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah. So like I'm sure that's a major, major part of it. The fact that they don't drink. Like it's a perfect storm. Not even Vegas suffers as a result.

[Kavino]

Not even like our, our pals of DraftKings. Not even all the gambling sites. Even like something like online game, like people play blackjack on their phone. Right. You could, you know, so like, yeah, interesting, right?

[Rich Davis]

So takes away from that just to.

[Kavino]

And let me tell you, I think reading all the feedback, 25 of the 32 teams are named because there's no real indication of where this guy goes. Because you could wonder does he go.
