Seaton, would you update the poll results from hour one of this award nominated program?
Seaton
Absolutely, Dan. And we're just about to put up a poll question for hour two. Okay, your high point from yesterday. This is one from Todd right now. VCU come back over. North Carolina has about 53% of that vote followed by high point over Wisconsin. Last place is Texas beating BYU and Sienna scaring Duke. Nobody's super into that one.
Dan Patrick
That was fun game to watch. I'm not surprised that Texas beat byu. BYU has the best player in the country. I didn't think they were a great team. A good team. And Texas played a really good game. Sienna was fun, but they literally ran out of gas. You know, you're playing all five. Jerry McNamara rolling the dice. And then you could see those shots were coming up a little bit short. VCU did not surprise me at all either. But fun, fun schedule, fun slate yesterday, a couple of surprises. I told you the 116 is the new 125 both 11s win and you had one of the twelves winning as well. New poll question.
Seaton
Yes, I'm glad you asked, Dan. Okay, this one is a combination of two from Paul. I was Rooting for Duke, AKA my bracket or Sienna, AKA the upset. Do you tend to root for your bracket because pretty much everybody picked Duke, or are you that into the upset that my bracket be damned? I don't really care about that. I need to see this upset.
Dan Patrick
I don't have Duke in my Final Four. I was rooting for Sienna. If I had Duke in the Final Four, I would have been rooting for Sienna.
Seaton
Did you have them advancing yesterday?
Dan Patrick
Yes. Okay, but if you said Duke lost Sienna one, yeah, I would have been fine with that. I would have. And you know, you start to look at that, we got five guys. But when you come, when you get to the tournament, you get. Most teams are playing seven guys. John Calipari has said that, hey, I'm gonna play seven. I mean, you do your damnedest to play seven. You get a little extra time, TV timeouts, to rest a little bit. But you're, you're about seven deep, maybe eight and Jerry was five deep. And it eventually cost them. John Rothstein, CBS Sports college basketball insider, does a great job for cbs, the CBS Sports Network, and he's part of the coverage here. John, I heard you on Mad Dog radio and recently and I said to Fritzi, I said, I want John on. I thought you did a wonderful job and painting the picture for the tournament before it started. And here we are today after the first day, the game of the day or night was what, yesterday?
John Rothstein
I mean, I think you have to look Dan, obviously at the high point win over Wisconsin because so much obviously of the start of the NCAA tournament is about Cinderella, is about creating those moments. Obviously VCU in North Carolina was an epic, epic finish as well. But those to me really encapsulated what these first couple of days are about. It's about the dreamer. It's about the chance to do something, be cemented in school history. And look, we obviously hold VCU in very, very high regard when we're talking about the best non power conference programs in college basketball. VCU has not won an NCAA tournament game since it beat Oregon State in 2016. It's been 10 years. So that is a needle moving win for that program.
Dan Patrick
If Sienna beat Duke, would that have been the greatest upset in college basketball history?
John Rothstein
I still think that considering the fact that Purdue in 2023 won the Big Ten regular season title and the Big Ten tournament title and had the national player of the year in Zach Edie. And we have to remember, remember fairly. Dickinson did not win the Northeast Conference title. Merrimack did that season, but was Ineligible to play in March Madness because of the transition role. So fairly Dickinson wasn't good enough to win its conference tournament and then won a game in the first four and went on to pull, in my opinion, unequivocally the biggest upset in the history of the NCAA tournament.
Dan Patrick
Okay, but if you look at the North Carolina loss yesterday, and I know it's easy to look at, you know, a win, but North Carolina lost and you're up by 19. Now, I know you don't have your best player in a lottery pick, but the fallout from that. Is there any chance Hubert Davis is on the hot seat today at North Carolina?
John Rothstein
Look, there's no doubt that the expectations Carolina is playing, but we have to tell the whole story right here. Hubert Davis, when he had his full roster intact, did a great job this season returning North Carolina to Providence. The prominence and what I mean by that is this. When North Carolina was healthy this year, we have to remember it beat Kansas, it beat Duke, it wanted Kentucky, it wanted Virginia. With Caleb Wilson, North Carolina is a 4 seed and maybe a 3 depending on where it finishes in the ACC tournament. I'm not somebody at this point in the season that's going to talk about the NBA trip, but I did hear Charles Barkley saying the other night on the broadcast he thinks Caleb Wilson could maybe be the number one pick in the NBA draft or at least in that conversation. Dan, I'm not saying this is 2000 when Cincinnati lost Kenyon Martin to a broken leg in the Conference USA tournament. But we have to tell the whole story right here. Hubert Davis had turned North Carolina when he had Caleb Wilson. This program also was in a situation where it was really, really playing early in the year without Seth Trimble, who obviously was a veteran guard. So it was an injury plague season when all hands were on deck. North Carolina obviously returned to one of being one of the best teams in the country. Now, with that said, it's a very disappointing loss considering you have a 19 point lead. I think both things are separate.
Dan Patrick
What's next for Jerry McNamara at Siena?
John Rothstein
I'll tell you, you can't make a better audition to be a power conference head coach than what Jerry McNamara did against Duke yesterday. Now, I will say this. I have learned and obviously covering all these stories, there is a faction of people at Syracuse that want to move away from the Jim Boeheim regime. That is a real, real sentiment. But Dan, the way I'm looking at this objectively is if there was a can't miss candidate, if there was Dan Hurley at Rhode Island. If there was Shaka Smart at vcu, I would have no problem with that. But right now the the person to replace Jerry McNamara, if it's not him, isn't a can't miss candidate and he has already proven in just two years that he's capable of leading a program and he's also situation where he can build a program and compete in the NCAA tournament. And look, this is just a fact of life Dan, and I think this is another longer form discussion but the Syracuse job right now is not the Syracuse job that you and I grew up with in the Big East. Let's look right now things in Syracuse joined the ACC in 2013. Since Syracuse joined the ACC in 2013, its winning percentage in ACC regular season games is 51%. Syracuse's winning percentage in Big east regular season games in its last 13 years in the conference was 69%. And Dan, let's go even further. Syracuse was able to make multiple deep runs in the NCAA Tournament as a member of the ACC. Credit to them. In 2016 when Syracuse went to the Final Four it was a 10 seed. In 2018 when Syracuse went to the Sweet 16 it was also a double digit seed and was an 11 seed in 2021 when it went to the Sweet 16. A big part of that is obviously Jim Boeheim has always been a great tournament coach with the zone. Syracuse doesn't change anything on a two day turnaround when you have a two three zone obviously on defense and the difficult prep for the opposing team. But really their tournament runs as double digit seeds has masked in some ways over the last decade that this program has not performed anywhere close to what it was performing at at the level that it was in the old Big East.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, those are great points. Your upset special today is,
John Rothstein
you know I'm doing games today Dan, so I'm going to stay away from that one right now because we got these four games in St. Louis. But I am excited obviously look like I think now and I'm obviously somebody, you know who you know eats this stuff for breakfast, lunch and dinner 365 days a year. But you know, narratives are so funny to me stuff was being put out in the atmosphere that like Cinderella is dead because of nil and the haves and the have nots. The greatness about the NCAA tournament is what we saw yesterday. And think about what we have seen in the first three days. Miami Ohio was terrific against SMU High Point beat a Wisconsin team again that wanted Illinois, one at Purdue and one at Michigan. And then we have two teams from the Atlantic 10, VCU and St. Louis, obviously, move on to the round of 32. And Sienna, who didn't even win the Mac, took Duke to the wire. So I think, you know, we also have to remind ourselves, three years ago, we had a Final Four game where it was San Diego State against Florida Atlantic. And two years ago, NC State, a team that was losing to Louisville at halftime on Tuesday of the ACC tournament, was able to win five games in five days at the ACC tournament and then win four more to advance obviously to the Final Four. So it is the greatest event in sports and I think we're thankful that we have it in its current form.
Dan Patrick
Great stuff. Thank you, John.
John Rothstein
Thank you, Dan. Appreciate you having me, man.
Dan Patrick
That's John Rothstein, CBS Sports. He's a college basketball insider and he's working for cbs, also CBS Sports Network as well. He also brought up something recently where he talked about there are really no great jobs that are open, that it would be a foregone conclusion that Jerry McNamara, former Syracuse great, would leave Siena and drive the. Whatever it is, hour or so to Syracuse and take the job. But is Syracuse a really good job? It used to be. And what John is saying, it's not now. Is BC a good. You know that, like, you look at these openings and there's a reason why they're open. Do you wait another year? And I think that's the interesting part here, is everybody, you know, we love change. So, you know, it's weird. Sometimes we don't like change at all. But then we're like, well, fire that coach. You got to get rid of him. Well, who you bringing in? That's always. My point is, okay, there's certain coaches where you go, he's not right for the job. But who are you bringing in? That's always the key. Hubert Davis. I'm sure North Carolina is like, you know, we got to do something here. That's another first round exit. Okay, but if you had a healthy team, are you losing that game? Are you going to be in the position that you were being seated where you were. Would you have been a better seed? And the answer is yes. All right, some phone calls in here. Monica and Raleigh. Monica, how you feeling today?
Monica
And well, I'm not doing so great because my heels lost last night, unfortunately.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Monica
But I'm with you on that. Hebert Davis should be allowed to continue to coach. He is a great coach. We were injured this year. He's fantastic. Caleb Wilson was a deal breaker. We all Saw it. They looked a little tired. Last night I was about ready to fall asleep and I was like, oh, we're gonna win. Nope. Sure enough, there it goes. Anyway, just wanted to tell a little story. I love the basketball tournament is my favorite time of the year. It's my little sanctuary. My dad and I went for 30 years in a row picking a first and second round, where to go sometimes. It was in Greensboro. My first year, I was nine years old. Went to Knoxville. So much fun. Then we went to Lexington. All over the place. And we would get a program and just look at the next team that we play next year. Who's going to play here next year. It was so much fun. And I just love this basketball tournament and wanted to also say we watched the first four and that is going to probably continue to go as far as money is concerned. And I'm talking too much. Yeah. All right.
Dan Patrick
Wait, wait. Did your husband just give you the wrap up sign?
Monica
He did, he did.
Dan Patrick
Why don't you tell him to mind his business? All right.
Monica
Right. Indeed, indeed. So basketball season is now over. So go raise on this season. But also wanted to say watching the first four.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, Monica. Thank you, Monica.
Seaton
You know what, man? That dude didn't call in. Monica did. You don't get to be a backseat driver on her phone call.
Dylan
Get out of here.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, shut up. You call in on your own. Just talking to Monica. I think that's enough. David in Ohio. Hi, David. Hi, David.
Caller or Listener
Hey, Dan. Happy meat Friday. Nobody. I had a quick theory as to why Marvin took the day off yesterday. Before you said what you said earlier, I thought maybe he went and got hand enlargement procedure done yesterday. So thank you.
Dan Patrick
Thank you, David.
Dylan
Good call.
Dan Patrick
That's a great call. Yeah.
Seaton
Hey guys. Happy me Friday? Nobody.
Dan Patrick
Damn. It was a teaching moment, Marvin. That's all. It's a teaching moment. This is what I do. And just, you know, you have something like that, there's a mishap and then
Paulie
you teach one teaching.
Marvin
No, but you're right. But who's your all time starting center in. In my lifetime?
Dan Patrick
Not Anthony Davis. The best center that you ever saw in your lifetime in college basketball is Anthony Davis.
Marvin
Yes. He had a unbelievably dominant season at Kentucky that one year.
Dan Patrick
He didn't score in the national title game.
Marvin
He's also got as many national titles as Patrick Ewing.
Dan Patrick
Who would you rather have on your team, Marvin? Anthony Davis or Patrick Ewing? What?
Marvin
Patrick Ewing.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Marvin
And that wasn't like a surefire, like, oh, no doubt.
Dan Patrick
Why don't you go watch some old Georgetown videos with Patrick Ewing.
Caller or Listener
He.
Dan Patrick
I can't. Like, this is what drives me crazy with the youth of America. I might suspend you for another day.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, I see what Marvin is saying by the center position because Heather been great centers in the past 30 years. I'm talking from 95 on Marvin's era. Centers.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
Not power forwards masquerading.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, but he was going to take Anthony Davis over Patrick Ewing.
Paulie
That is. He's. That's irrational.
Dan Patrick
Are you going to take him over akeem elijah?
John Rothstein
1.
Dan Patrick
You can take him over Bill Walton.
Marvin
No, no. Never Bill Walton. Bill wants a surefire. That's not even a question.
Dan Patrick
Okay, all right, I just.
Marvin
Man, but you're talking about in college. And I know Patrick Ewing was unbelievable.
Dan Patrick
Patrick Ewing.
Marvin
But Anthony Davis, for that one season, that one shining moment, all right, he dominated.
Dan Patrick
Okay, let me let it.
Marvin
Like I said, a scrub. And he wasn't street clothes back then.
Paulie
Yes, Paul, I have Anthony Davis's bio for Basketball reference and University of Kentucky.
Dan Patrick
Why don't we wait till after the break here?
Paulie
It'll shake this up.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I gotta.
Seaton
Let's let everybody calm down.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I gotta take a breath. Yeah. Okay.
Seaton
Composers.
Dan Patrick
People think that there's something, you know, deeper going on with Marvin and me and. And I. It's not, you know, I'm your boss. Something happened, we treated it. Now we move on. I don't want anything to linger from your suspense from your day off. Okay, Fair enough.
Marvin
Fair enough.
Dan Patrick

If you're trying to keep up with everything happening on and off the court, we've got you covered on the podcast. Flagrant and funny. You look at the top four number one seeds, what do you think UCLA is going to do? Break down that for me, my friend. Obviously, UConn is the overwhelming favorite in this tournament, but I'll be honest, I think people are kind of sleeping on Texas. Experts are suggesting that UCLA is the number one challenger to UConn, and that right after that would be Texas. SEC is so is so deep and so thick in just about everything. It really is annoying. So it's UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU. Only ones that could possibly upset UConn on flagrant and funny. We're giving our unfiltered takes on the biggest moments, the conversations everyone's having. So whether your bracket is busted or you just want the latest on the tournament we got. Guys, if your hair isn't playing like it did in your 20s, get rid of the hat, because that's not a strategy. Start Neutrophone today and make the hat optional. Visit neutropol.com Enter the promo code. Dan, Patrick. I know some of you may live vicariously through me because I live the life after all. And I mentioned yesterday on the show, I was taking my youngest daughter to Dave and Buster's last night, and I did. Now she's, I think, 27 or 28. And we went to Dave and Buster's. We were obviously the oldest people in the Dave and Buster's game area. And they have some new contraption. You know, remember the claw, where you could kind of manipulate it and then get a stuffed animal? You know, it would go. And then. Oh, sometimes you'd get this stuffed animal.
Paulie
Very tough.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Well, now they have the human claw. So they wrapped my daughter in some kind of contraption, lifted her up, and then she got to hover over this pit that had all kinds of inflatables, like a. A tube. There was a. An alien. I got a banana. So she was hovering over, and she was the human claw. And I went to Dave and Buster's, and I got a very large inflatable banana.
Paulie
Yes, Paul, I am currently on Dave and busters.com. of course, they call it the human crane, dad.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paulie
How about that? And you're, like you said, you're wrapped up like a burrito, suspended, and you can dip in and grab some gear.
Dan Patrick
And then I. I decided I wasn't going to do this because it felt like somebody there. It was a photo op for somebody getting me, you know, flying over, you know, being a human crane. But we watched some basketball at Dave and Buster's, of course. Had some spinach dip, you know, the usual. Had some wings, and we got to go. Played air hockey, you know, it's a great day. Yeah.
Paulie
The daughter. That's awesome.
Dan Patrick
And she suggested it. She was like, hey, feels like a Dave and Buster's night. I said, hell, yes. Every night does. Seaton, would you update the poll results? Oh, did you get the Anthony Davis stats there, Paulie? So Marvin says Anthony Davis, in his lifetime, is the greatest center that he ever saw in college basketball history.
Paulie
The issue for Marvin is. I checked multiple sources, including University of Kentucky. He was a forward. He was listed as a forward his entire time, all 40 games he played. Now, he was great. 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4.7 blocks.
Dan Patrick
Wow.
Paulie
First team all American, but he was a forward.
Dan Patrick
Marvin,
Marvin
are you going to run me again?
Dan Patrick
No, no, no, no, no. This is. This is just a kind of put your tiny hands in, like the Madonna song. I will be your father figure. Put your Tiny hands in mine.
Marvin
I believe that's George Michael.
Dan Patrick
Wait, I thought that was Madonna.
Marvin
I will be your father figure.
Dan Patrick
Put your tiny hands in Mars. Oh, I thought that was Madonna. George Michael. Yeah.
Caller or Listener
All right.
Dan Patrick
Well, still put your tiny hands in mine.
Paulie
Are you thinking Papa Don't Preach?
Dan Patrick
Oh, maybe that's what it is. Papa don't Preach. Yes. Seaton.
Seaton
Yeah. I think the problem that we're having here with. Sorry. If I could get back to Patrick Ewing and Anthony Davis, I apologize. But what we're talking about is longevity, as much as you can in college basketball versus a single season. And Anthony Davis had the better.
Dan Patrick
He had.
Seaton
His one year was better than any of Patrick Ewing's individual years. But Patrick Ewing had a better career.
Dan Patrick
But Patrick Ewing, his impact on college basketball far greater than all of his years than Anthony Davis with his one year. Patrick Ewing was the face. He was college basketball back then. Anthony Davis was just part of a Kentucky team that was really, really good and won a national title.
Marvin
Yes, but that's the thing with errors. Patrick Ewing, in this error, would have been a one and done guy. So that's the only thing. I don't have much to choose from when you're talking about great centers.
Dan Patrick
But imagine Patrick Ewing in today's game
Marvin
with the 15 foot jumper and the defensive ability.
Dan Patrick
Defensive ability. And no other big men to guard him.
Marvin
30 and 15 every night.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Paulie, Like Cena saying, it's like greatest career versus playing ability at the time, they were at their peak. And that freshman year by Anthony Davis was nuts. It's like there's. There's probably better point guards in history than Allen Iverson, but those first two years at Georgetown, that was special stuff. So you may pick Iverson over. I don't know.
Dan Patrick
I don't know. Marvin, who do you pick? Alan, who's your point guard?
Marvin
I.J. williams.
Dan Patrick
Okay, that's fine. Yeah. I mean, one year.
Marvin
Oh, he had three years at Duke.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But you got to take one year.
Marvin
Take one year.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think. Is that how we're doing?
Seaton
The correct answer is Allen Iverson.
Marvin
Yes.
Seaton
Only correct if we're going one year.
Marvin
Allen Iverson.
Dan Patrick
Man, we see a thing, though.
Seaton
There was this run that I just remember. I hated Georgetown as a kid because every year they got a new absolute superstar.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Seaton
And the only thing that made Allen Iverson different was every year you had like, oh, it's Patrick Ewing. Well, he's going to be gone. Oh, great. Here comes, you know, Dikembe Mutombo. Oh, what the hell are we going to do now. And then Alonzo Morning comes in after that. And then they finally got away from big men to get Island Iverson. It's like, what the hell with this school.
Dan Patrick
And Iverson spent two years there.
Dylan
Holy smokes.
Dan Patrick
At Georgetown. Yes.
Paulie
Paul iverson, sophomore year, 25 points per game, five assists and led the nation in steals with 3.4 steals.
Dan Patrick
I don't remember him ever playing defense in the NBA, but at Georgetown, John Thompson made him play some defense there. Yes, Mark.
Marvin
No, I remember him getting steals, but then I remember him getting burned about 80% of the time when he tried to go for steals.
Dan Patrick
Oh, yeah.
Marvin
I think he led the league in steals in the NBA also. But he was so quick. He would just go through the passing almost like in Larry Bird type of way.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I think Larry Bird might have led the league in steals. Can you check this stat? Has the Joker since 2010 or. No, 2020 led the NBA in points, rebounds, assists and steals? I think Jogic.
Paulie
Yeah, I have his stats. I. He averaged 29.61 year. That was last year.
Dan Patrick
No, no. He scored the most points. Oh, so he's had the most rebounds, not average the most assists and most steals. Checking, I think as just a sidebar on steals.
Paulie
Take me a second.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. There are guys who come up with steals where you go, damn. And I didn't necessarily mean you're a great defender. Larry Bird always played the passing lanes. They would say. And all you need to know is when Charles Barkley says, I'll never be the worst defender in the league as long as Larry Bird is still in the league. Yes, Seaton.
Seaton
I think that there are defenders and then there are like disruptors. Allen Iverson was a disruptor.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
He would kind of get that steal here and there, but you wouldn't really call him a great defender. There are other guys who are great defenders.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Boeing Iverson led the league in steals three consecutive seasons, age 25 to 27.
Dan Patrick
Okay. But I don't think he was a good defender. He.
Paulie
He made. He was The Depoy top 10 defensive player of the year four different times.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Boy, they must have been watching different games.
Paulie
Well, it's one of those where if you lead the league in steals, you automatically make that list.
Dan Patrick
Well, it's like Ben Wallace. Ben was an unbelievable help defender, but not necessarily on ball. Defender. Yes.
Seaton
That's where you get those strips. You come in from the backside.
Dan Patrick
That guy's a great.
Seaton
That's right.
Dan Patrick
I did that. Andrew in Washington. Hi, Andrew. Welcome back.
Caller or Listener
Good Morning, Dan. Dennis, thanks for taking my call. First of all, a Duke one. All you have to do is win in advance. If everybody wants to get off the bandwagon, that's fine. I'll stay on it. Secondly, I lived in High Point for about seven years. High Point, North Carolina, great city. Has been through a lot. A lot of their manufacturing and furniture has left for different areas. And so it took a big hit in the early 2000s. It's great to see that that city is being built back up and that that college has been really revamped. My dad still lives right off of Westchester Avenue in High Point, North Carolina. It still has the largest home furnishing show in the world in the spring and the fall. So that's kind of its meal ticket. And that kind of sustained the city during some down economic times. But that's great to see. Also, I would pick Jahliel Okafor for the best center in college basketball. As far as. During Marvin's life, my life, just because he did win a championship in Duke, he was a one and done. I think he just had a better year all around than Anthony Davis did during his championship year. And one other thing, a stat of the day. You know, the disappointment draft was around Arizona, and Arizona has created a curse for the whole West Coast. Do you realize since Arizona won their national championship in 1997, there's not been a men's college basketball team to win the national championship west of Texas. Arizona curse.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that. What? Stat of the day. Yeah, I saw that stat, of course, on Facebook where they were talking about national champs, and
Paulie
we may have to cut your screen time.
Dan Patrick
I spend a lot of time on Facebook.
John Rothstein
Not.
Dan Patrick
Not Facebook marketplace. But I'll tell you what, if you're selling corduroy on Facebook, I'm all in. Because my wife said, you got to stop doing this. I said, no, I don't. Oh, dear, No, I don't. And because a package will show up and she'll go, corduroy. I go, yeah, yeah. Hey, jump on the bandwagon. I got corduroy on today. You can call me Roy. Hey, Roy. Yeah. Jealous? Maybe a little. You got Jalil Okafor stats, Paulie.
Paulie
You know, that's a good poll by him. Because Okafor's pro career was a bit of a disappointment. His rookie year in the. His first year with Duke, he was first team All American ACC best player of the year, one of the best players in college basketball. He averaged 17 and 9.
Dan Patrick
It's all right.
Paulie
He got everything he could win his. His freshman year.
Dan Patrick
Okay. I mean.
Paulie
And he was listed at center.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Was Tim Duncan listed at center at Wake Forest? Well, you weren't alive, Marvin.
Marvin
I was. I was there for Tim Duncan versus Marcus Camby. Oh, Wake Forest versus UMass.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. So why didn't you pick Tim Duncan?
Marvin
That's a big miss on my part. Tim Duncan.
Dan Patrick
Okay. Would you rather have Tim Duncan? Okay. I'm just saying, you could have said
Marvin
just about anybody else and I would have picked Tim Duncan.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Paulie
Paul Duncan was list at center all four years a week.
Dan Patrick
But then he went to the NBA and he wanted to be listed as a forward.
Paulie
It's very wonky. His first eight years in the pros, Duncan was a power forward. His last 10 listed center.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. But he's considered or in the conversation with the best power forward in NBA history, because if you're a center, he's not going to be listed among the best centers of all time. Joe in Syracuse. Good morning, Joe. What's on your mind?
Caller or Listener
Good morning, Dan. How are you today, sir?
Dan Patrick
Hey, Joe, meet Friday. Yeah, good.
Caller or Listener
Hey, I love all the Syracuse talk, by the way. Hopefully I can do justice to Chris in Syracuse. I know he calls everybody day, but so I know out of all you guys, you guys are all pretty big fans or at least somewhat follow wwe, right? I would say probably Paulie's the biggest fan. Would that be right?
Dan Patrick
Probably not. I don't know if we have too many wrestling fans in here. Is it Marvin, you're all. You're a wrestling fan.
Marvin
Yes. From.
Dan Patrick
You got your.
Seaton
Look at what he's wearing.
Dan Patrick
You got your Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Marvin
I do my Rowdy Roddy Piper hoodie.
Dan Patrick
Okay. All right.
Caller or Listener
So awesome.
Dan Patrick
Joe, Marvin, it follows wwe.
Caller or Listener
Okay, So I have a pie to the face here. And it might. No one might accept it because it's just too obvious at this point. But I'm going to be the first to call it. So you guys have probably seen all this stuff going on with Logan, Paul and Tom Brady and all this stuff. So WrestleMania this year is in Vegas, Right. Obviously, Tom Brady partly owns the Raiders and whatever, and now you got Gronk. So I'm calling it right now. Tom Brady and Gronk are going to be in a tag team match at WrestleMania against Logan Paul and Austin Theory, who's also part of the team. So Tom Brady will appear at WrestleMania. I'm calling it now. Anyone want to take me up on that bet?
Dan Patrick
If he doesn't show up.
Caller or Listener
Tie to the face.
Dan Patrick
Joe, for your sake, I hope he shows up and you get your dream come true. That maybe Tom Brady and a Speedo is wrestling him and Gronk tag team.
Seaton
Oh, yeah.
Dan Patrick
And then who's this who is supposed to be dating? Is that Alix? They saw it on Facebook. Of course. Facebook market. No, no, no, no, no. I. I'm not shopping for that
Paulie
between corduroy swipes.
Dan Patrick
Just saying swipe. Right. Yeah. Isn't it Alex Earl?
Seaton
I believe so.
Dan Patrick
I believe that's the yes, Tom. I think she was on Dancing with the Stars. Not that I watched that show or anything. Wait, you think or you know? Quite sure. She was at one of the Dancing with the Stars ladies. Yeah, I think she's. She was a big deal. And then Tom's supposed to be dating her, I think. Anywho, we'll take a break here. We'll get more phone calls. Coming up. Dylan is going to come in from the kitchen. We got some gambling. I don't even know what the topic is with Dylan, other than we had a very festive gambling podcast. Did you do the Todd cast yesterday, Todd?
Marvin
We did not.
Dan Patrick
We're gonna do, I think the next one.
Marvin
We're gonna do two next week.
Dan Patrick
As far as I know, Monday and
Podcast Narrator (Rorschach Murder)
Wednesday, we're gonna record a couple.
Dan Patrick
We'll save yourself, though. Like, two in one week is a lot.
Marvin
We were supposed to do one over
Dan Patrick
the last couple of days, and it
Marvin
just didn't work out in scheduling, so
Dan Patrick
I think we're gonna double up. Why don't you do one today after the show?
Marvin
We could. I think there's the 12:15 podcast.
Dan Patrick
There's other things going on in the studio, so that's a no. The next one will be Monday after the show. Okay. All right, we'll take a break. Back after this. Obviously, UConn is the overwhelming favorite in this tournament, but I'll be honest, I think people are kind of sleeping on Texas. Experts are suggesting that UCLA is the number one challenger to UConn, and that right after that would be Texas. SCC is so is so deep and so thick in just about everything. It really is. So it's UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU, only ones that could possibly upset UConn on flagrant and Funny. Each week, I'll speak to the people building that future, and we're going to break down what all of this innovation actually means for you.
Seaton
What I come to realize is that
Dan Patrick
when people think that they're dating this
Seaton
AI companion, they're actually dating the companies that create this.
Lori Siegel
We're experiencing one of the greatest tech accelerations in human history. And let's be honest, that can be messy.
Lily Herman
There's no playbook for what to do when an AI model hallucinates a story about you.
Lori Siegel
But it's my belief that we should all benefit from this moment. Mostly Human will show you how. My goal is to give you the playbook so you can benefit.

I don't know the difference between corned beef and pastrami, but that pastrami tastes great. Of course, you know, being the head of quality control here, I had to go out and sample it. But that's our meat Friday today.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, Pastrami versus corned beef Dan, we have that ready to go. Corned beef boiled or steamed, while pastrami usually seasoned with spices and smoked, sometimes steamed.
Dan Patrick
And that's why pastrami is better than
Paulie
corned beef and usually darker to the eyeball.
Dan Patrick
Yes, yes. And that's the case. Dylan did a great job with meat fried. Where is the. Oh, there's Dylan.
Dylan
Hey, man.
Dan Patrick
Hey, Dylan. What do you have for me?
Dylan
We got a little March Madness. Fun stuff. Okay, look back at yesterday, and I have a bit of a dilemma that I need some help from the class with all Right. The gambling dilemma.
Dan Patrick
All right, so aside from your microphone being a little shaky.
Dylan
Is it a little shaky?
Dan Patrick
It doesn't sound great. Doesn't sound good.
Dylan
That could just be me.
Dan Patrick
Do you want to. You want to sit in Fritzy?
John Rothstein
Seat.
Caller or Listener
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Or seat and seat? Yeah. Just. Just to make sure that we send the message out appropriately. Todd, you don't have to get up too. Dylan. Dylan only needs one seat.
Paulie
God ran out.
Dan Patrick
I think he was going out to have some corned beef. I'm on to you, toddler. Usually he takes my spot, so I thought I was doing the right thing. Seaton jumped up and said, sit here, please. All right, Dylan, what do you have for us?
Dylan
Well, let's look at a little bit of the upsets from yesterday, Dan. It was fairly chalky. I think we can all agree. High Point was the. The high water mark for the dogs, which, you know, I had. Not a big deal. TCU, there are a lot of two and a half point dogs that won. TCU, VCU, Texas and St. Louis were all two and a half point underdogs, all one outright.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dylan
High Point was obviously the biggest at plus ten and a half, but it was pretty. It was pretty chalky. The teams that lost but covered which for the gamblers out there, this is an important category. South Florida on the nose. They're plus four and a half against Louisville, lost by four. Either hate or love to see that. Sienna was plus 27 and a half against Duke and that was gone and dead immediately. And then Howard, plus 30 and a half against Michigan was actually the most popular dog by handle yesterday.
Dan Patrick
Howard, I've got LIU minus 30 and a half or plus 30 and a half against Arizona. Tennessee State getting 24 and a half against Iowa State. Wright State 18 and a half against Virginia. Prairie View getting 35 and a half against Florida. Queens, North Carolina getting 25 and a half against Purdue. Northern Iowa getting 9 and a half versus St. John's 35 and a half
Dylan
with Prairie View is tantalizing.
Dan Patrick
But this is why you always lose money.
Dylan
I went undefeated yesterday, Dan, for the first time in.
Dan Patrick
I know, but if anybody has listened to the gambling podcast, you're not very good.
Dylan
There's a couple guys out there with Bentleys.
Dan Patrick
If you faded, you. You are. You're funny, you're entertaining, but you're not very good gambler.
Dylan
It's a losing proposition. I've accepted that. Then we actually. Speaking of disappointments, would you like an update on our disappointment draft standings from yesterday?
Dan Patrick
Yes, yes. This was something different. Where There were people who are actually rooting for Duke to lose because we wanted to. You know, you'd get more points if a number one seed bowed out. You get four points as opposed to. It was the top four seeds in all. All of the brackets. And then we had a snake draft and a lot of people have Duke going a long way in the tournament, but I was rooting for Sienna to pull off the upset. All right, deal.
Dylan
Well, then you are actually tied at the top with Paul and Marvin. Slash me, I guess at seven under.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dylan
You had Michigan and Illinois one. Todd is in second at six under Gonzaga one, which is bad for him. And then Seaton is at five under with the Duke W. Do you have
Dan Patrick
a parlay going today?
Dylan
Yes. So this is the predicament. I bet a 10 leg parlay yesterday.
Dan Patrick
I. I tell you, parlays are death.
Dylan
Yeah, I know, but there's a twist. I've hit eight of the 10 legs.
Dan Patrick
What?
Dylan
It's $9 to win like 5600.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dylan
And I've been offered the cash out option of $1,014.
Dan Patrick
No, we're letting it ride.
Dylan
People online are. There's a bit of both, but a lot of people said that it is just cowardly to not let it ride.
Dan Patrick
Okay, give me the other two legs here.
Dylan
I need Akron plus eight against Texas Tech.
Dan Patrick
I like that.
Dylan
And your Arizona Wildcats minus 31 against Liu.
Dan Patrick
Oh, it's now up to 31. Not 30.3 and a half.
Dylan
It was 31 when I bet. It's now down to 30 and a half.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paulie
Yes, Paulie, just to clarify, you could tap out now for 1,000 or ride it for 5,600.
Dylan
I need those two games today for 5,600.
Dan Patrick
Okay. What would you do, Todd? It's not my money. I would let it ride, but I think those two will work for him. No, if it's your money, what would you do? I would let it know it's. I would. No, I would. I would let it ride. I thought you like giving advice to Dylan.
Marvin
I would let it ride.
Dan Patrick
Okay, Dylan, you hold off on what you're going to do. Marvin, what would you do?
Marvin
I let it ride.
Dan Patrick
Seaton, what would you do if you're Dylan?
Seaton
I think if Dylan wanted to do an eight leg parlay, he would have done an eight leg parlay. But he did a 10.
Dan Patrick
So ride with the 10, Paul.
Paulie
5600 is a nice chunk of money. You could do something with that. If you take the thousand and you the other hit, you'll regret it forever.
iHeart Podcast Announcer
Take.
Paulie
Let it ride.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I would let it run.
Dylan
This wasn't even a question. Of course.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Dylan
However, if it was like, if, say they're offering like, three grand as the cash out option, might consider it.
Dan Patrick
Okay, what time are the games? Because can you win nine legs of a ten leg parlay and then they can say, do you want to cash out? And it might be like 3200. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie, is it Akron? Texas Tech? Dylan.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
That's at 12:40 Eastern. Liu, Arizona is at 1:35pm Eastern. So they're going on simultaneously almost.
Dylan
Do you guys want me to tell you exactly what's going to happen?
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Dylan
Akron's gonna cover, and then I'll get to watch the second half of Arizona blow it by, like one point and then lose on the last leg.
Dan Patrick
They're gonna win by 29.
Dylan
Yep.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Marvin
Todd, is there any negotiating with the
Dan Patrick
cash out option that's just a digital,
Podcast Narrator (Rorschach Murder)
nameless, faceless thing that pops up on your screen? I don't know how that works.
Dylan
You're at the whim of the powers that be, Todd.
Dan Patrick
You can't contact someone and say, if
Marvin
you give me 3312 08, I'm good and I'll not let it ride.
Dan Patrick
Usually doesn't work well with a bookie. He tried to do that. I'm just gonna say, probably not. Yes. Dale. I'm.
Dylan
I'm nervous, Dan. I haven't been nervous like this in a while. This is a. This could be really big for me. And the brand.
Dan Patrick
Yep. The brand.
Dylan
Yes. The brand of the losing gambler who had a complete hail Mary parlay by accident.
Dan Patrick
You have a brand. Everybody has a brand, I guess. Alrighty. Two hours in the books on this meat Friday. Dylan, get back in the kitchen. Gotta prepare. Final hour on the way. More of your phone calls as well. Todd's here. Seaton, Marv, Paulie, yours truly, and the back room guys as well. Final hour, this meet Friday, right after this.

Hour 2 - No Good Jobs in College Basketball, Jon Rothstein
Date: March 20, 2026
Podcast Host: Dan Patrick, iHeartPodcasts
Key Guest: Jon Rothstein (CBS Sports, college basketball insider)
This episode dives deep into the dramatic first round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament with a focus on surprising upsets, the state of storied college basketball programs, and the shifting landscape of coaching opportunities – especially at schools traditionally seen as “blue bloods.” Dan Patrick welcomes college basketball insider Jon Rothstein for in-depth analysis and spirited debate about recent games, the future of coaches at North Carolina and Syracuse, and what constitutes a “good job” in today’s college basketball world. The crew also shares their signature humor and banter, fielding passionate calls and debating the greatest college centers of all time.
The show maintains its trademark blend of humor, sports expertise, and camaraderie, with Dan’s affable leadership drawing spirited takes and laughter from both guests and crew. Jon Rothstein matches that energy with polished, rapid-fire college hoops analysis, while callers bring a mix of devotion and quirk that’s classic for The Dan Patrick Show.
If you missed Hour 2, the show dissected the NCAA tournament’s wild upsets, the challenge of coaching high-profile programs in today’s landscape, and why “great jobs” in college basketball are less appealing than ever. Jon Rothstein’s insider takes provided critical context for North Carolina’s loss and the true value of the Syracuse opening, while the crew’s passionate debates over all-time greatest centers (and positional definitions!) kept things lively and relatable. The tone is equal parts expert analysis and locker room fun, making for an episode that’s as informative as it is entertaining.
