Are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Hour 2 on this Monday. Dan and the Danettes, Dan Patrick Show. Gangs all here, ready to go we had a snow day yesterday, so everybody came in for the most part. Those who don't live close by. And we had a big sleepover. We had beverages. We have a new 98 inch TV. We got the Z Kliners. So everybody, you know, it's makeshift betting around here. Big slumber party is what it was. And Todd did not come in. He was at a nearby hotel. You did not want to share the experience with anybody else yesterday.
Todd
It really worked out well. Being alone and hanging my Elway and Terrell Davis on my Bronco stuff all over the couch really played out.
Dan Patrick
The caller is always right. Todd lost the bet. Therefore, whatever you have to say to Todd, he has to agree with you. And then add to that as Seaton's Patriots are now going to the Super Bowl. 8773-DP-SHoM Email Address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter Handle DP show we will recap poll question results from the first hour. Big Mike Golick will join us and Seaton will have a poll question for hour two. I mentioned that there are a couple of big plays in the Denver game. You know, you can have the fourth and one. I, I didn't like the call. First of all, I would have taken the points. If, you know there's bad weather coming in, you have a backup quarterback and you're going against the defense who, by the way, has allowed 26 points total in three playoff games. The only defense to allow fewer points over three playoff games before the Super Bowl. The 2000 Ravens, considered one of the greatest defenses of all time. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. You know, we love name recognition. We love to be able to go, hey, they're good. Because that guy or that guy, you know, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and Terrell Suk, you can look at the Patriots and go, man, they're great because they, they got that guy and then that guy. They're really good defense, but you would expect that for Mike Vrabel. So that was a big play that you're going to go for it fourth down early when you have a chip shot to make it 10 to nothing. The other play was Drake may not telling his teammates that he was going to run for the first down. Here's how it sounded on the Patriots radio network from New England's 39 yard line. Out of the aisle, fake by May. He's gonna run it to the left. He's being chased. Tries to get outside.
Mike Golick
He does. He's got the first down running to the far side. Outlifting the chasing defender.
Dan Patrick
And Drake May. And the Patriots take the hand off to Stevenson, the quarterback. The naked bootleg out to the left has a first down that should allow the Patriots to clinch it. Courtesy of the Patriots radio network. Yeah, the fact that he didn't tell his teammates that he was going to do it. What if he didn't make it? What would we be saying? Because that was on the Patriots 39 yard line. Now, I know the weather conditions were really bad and you had, you know, a couple plays where people are slipping. I mean, I, I thought that there was plenty of opportunities for Drake May to run during that game. Even before the snow came in, I thought. And, and I expect him to run like, be the Patriots leading rusher in the Super Bowl. I just think that there's an opportunity for him to be Josh Allen, like, and take advantage of that. And he did with that, the, you know, biggest play of the game. And then with Seattle against the Rams, I, I thought Seattle's defense was going to be better than what it was because I thought it would be formidable, especially at home. But give credit to the Rams and, you know, Matthew Stafford's thrown for 353 touchdowns, no interceptions, and you don't advance. But the biggest problem I had with the third and fourth down calls where he was oh for seven, and that came back to haunt them. Jackson, Smith, Najigba was wonderful. Puka Nakua was great. You had those moments where the Rams, you know, when they're down 11 and you have that, you know, Tariq Woolen has that foul where he's. And, and the officials trying to tell him shut up. Trying to basically say, don't do it. All right, I'm gonna throw the flag. And then the next play, he gets beat for the touchdown by Pukinakua. If Seattle didn't advance, we might be looking at that play. You know, we, we do this sometimes where you'll, you'll think a play is going to. And then something else happens and then we forget about that play, whether it's good or bad. But that was one of those moments where you're Seattle, you've stopped them. What are you doing? Yeah, Paulie.
Paulie
And it was Woolen who made the play on the fourth down to deflect the pass. So he starts barking at the sidelines.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Paulie
And you could see on the replay, the ref goes like, wave off. He kind of waves him off and he keeps going. He forced the ref's hand, I think, and I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, that could have been the worst penalty in NFL history if it didn't work out, because it was easily avoidable. I mean, the worst.
Dan Patrick
I'm trying to go through my NFL Rolodex on terrible penalties. Yeah.
Paulie
Like, an example would be D. Ford going offsides for the Chiefs years ago. That was unintentional, and, you know, you can understand it in the moment. Woolen was begging for a flag.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Yeah. I didn't understand. You know, you start chirping. I know you get fired up, and you're gonna go to the super bowl, and then all of a sudden, you know, you get flagged. Rams get the ball. Keep the ball. Pukinaku. A touchdown. You're going, oh, my God. Not everybody has to chirp. Seattle was chirping at Matthew Stafford. Like, when he'd come off the field, there'd be guys who were going out there to say something to him. Cool moment. After the game, Stafford's trying to find Cooper cup, his former teammate, now with Seattle, scored a touchdown. And you could see him like, he truly is looking around for Cooper cup just to congratulate him, give him a hug after, you know, tough loss like that. And we don't know what Matthew Stafford's future is. Sean McVeigh didn't want to hear the question. I'm okay with asking the question. I might have softened it a little bit, but this is how it sounded. Sean, do you expect Matthew Stafford to be back next season? Yeah.
Mike Golick
I mean, that's. I mean, if he. If he still wants to play. The hell kind of question is that the answer? Yeah, you have to ask him. We've been totally present. I know that if he wants to.
Dan Patrick
He'S still playing at a pretty damn good clip.
Mike Golick
I mean, he's the MVP of the league, and if he's not, you know, I mean, I got respect for everybody else, but this guy played at a level that's just different.
Dan Patrick
It's a fair question. It's a fair topic. And you could even soften it by saying, you know, at what point do you think you'll hear about Matthew's plans for the future? So it's like, do you think he's going to be back? And I think, you know, it kind of hit Sean, like, wait a minute. Why are we talking about this now? We just lost. Okay. You still have to ask the question. Yeah, Seaton.
Seaton
I do like how coaches can go between either. Like, guys, come on. We're moving on to the next game, okay? Like, we're already done with this one. We're moving on to the next one. We're like, guy, what the hell's wrong with you?
Dan Patrick
We just lost. We're still dwelling on this loss.
Seaton
You want me to think about the future now, when we just lost the game?
Dan Patrick
They.
Seaton
Depending on how it benefits them, they can go one or two ways.
Dan Patrick
I hope Stafford's back, but, you know, he. I think he defied logic of staying healthy the entire season and playing at an MVP level. And with those receivers, tight ends, running backs, Sean McVeigh. Be tough to walk away from that if. If physically you're able to play, man, it'd be tough. Yeah.
Paulie
Paulie Stafford was sacked only 24 times this year, lowest of his career. Yeah, I was thinking with the Rams, they got that extra draft pick. They got a first rounder this year from Atlanta in that trade. So they have the 13th pick of the first round and their own pick at 29. Could you see them addressing the quarterback with a 13th pick, Ty Simpson, and letting him sit a year under Stafford?
Dan Patrick
Well, you have to be sold on Ty Simpson. That's a. That's a valuable draft pick to use. And, you know, I don't know. I watch Ty Simpson. There are times when I go, wow, he's really good. And then there are times I would say, you know, he's average completion percentage, I think, second half of the season. And he did have some big moments. But, you know, you're trying to handicap, all right, who is like, who is franchise worthy. Because if you're taking somebody at 13, unless you're the Steelers taking Kenny Pickett, you know, you're. You think that quarterback is going to be your quarterback. And if you think that guy's that good, and Sean McVeigh's like, hey, we're going to take him. Even though, you know, Stafford will come back, have him sit for a year, learn from Stafford. I could see that. Mike Golick senior will join us. Was he working the Seattle game last night? Westwood One?
Todd
He was in Denver for Westwood one in the. In the radio booth.
Dan Patrick
Oh, okay. Mark Schlerith, who was in Denver, he worked for Fox Sports. He'll join us a little bit later on as well. Phil in Iowa. Hi, Phil. What's on your mind? Hey, Phil. Yep.
Caller
56132. Best and bestest. Best of the Broncos losing bestest was Justin Gaethje winning the main event. Ufc.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Who was he going against? Patty Brimlet. Patty the baddie. Patty. Who is. Where's he from? Liverpool. And he said. What are they called? Sorcerers?
Paulie
Scousers.
Dan Patrick
Scousers okay. Scousers. He says Scousers don't, you know, go down.
Seaton
That was pretty. I actually watched that. I'm not much of a UFC guy or MMA guy, but I actually watched that just to see Patty Pimblett and he. I don't know that I've ever seen anybody get the crap out of them that bad and still stand up and smile and be like, that was awes.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, maybe he should have gone down.
Seaton
What a psychopath.
Dan Patrick
Yes.
Seaton
Entertaining as hell, though.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
Seaton
That is an example of. Actually, I thought while watching that of someone who lost and still won because he. The reaction from, like, Joe Rogan and everybody who is. They talked way more about his toughness and how he's a real dealer. Like, this dude is a legit superstar in ufc. And he lost.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Todd.
Todd
There was a UFC lightweight bout canceled due to suspicious betting. Oh, the Johnson Hernandez bout because of suspicious betting on one side.
Dan Patrick
Wow. Okay. Cody in Texas. Hi, Cody. What's on your mind today?
Caller
Hey, Dan, Good morning. Wanted to ask, man, with. With the success of McDonald and Brable now, and you look at Signetti, is. Is the era of any type of rebuild over, you know, our fan bases now, you know, and especially owners, they're just not going to have the patience for a quick turnaround.
Dan Patrick
Well, I think it's fair to bring that up. Seattle's a good team. New England won four games. Seattle won 10 games last year. You may not realize it because you probably don't watch Seattle football. They are a great franchise, great GM, and Mike McDonald has done a wonderful job. And Sam Darnold came in and did what they wanted him to do. New England, you know, Vrabel getting there. Drake May 2nd year. And you say you're going to go to the super bowl in a division that we thought Buffalo was the class of the division, and we thought maybe Miami could be a borderline playoff team. That one was very surprising. But you start to look, you know, like people are going to overreact to the Bears. The Bears have had talent now. You got a really good coach now you got somebody who can coach up your quarterback, who's gone through all these head coaches and coordinators. So I'm not surprised at their turnaround. Signetti, I mean, yes, that's a crazy turnaround, but that's where you get portal transfers, you get money. And the previous year was no fluke. They were good the previous year. But yeah, I, If. If you start to look at these teams, these schools, and you go, why not us? Why can't we turn it around in the NFL? You know, there are times when it's set up for you to have. You know, Patriots had a really easy schedule. Granted, you got to win those games, but still, they're going to have a tougher schedule next year. They may come back to earth next year, but what they did this year and they got cap room, they got draft picks, I mean, they're. I thought that next year was going to be the year to look out for them, not this year. So they're going to be set up for a while. And that probably made, you know, the Buffalo Bills go, man, how good are we going to get? How good can we get? The Patriots are really good and they're really young and they got a quarterback you don't have to extend for two years and you got all those draft picks and you got that coach. And Buffalo may have thought, hey, we need to make a change here. We may need to shake things up because New England is not going to go away. Yes.
Seaton
I think if you're Buffalo, I think one of the things you're probably most upset about is that you played almost the same schedule as the Patriots. Like 14 of their 17 games were exactly the same. So I know the strength of schedule is tilted slightly towards the Patriots having a weaker schedule, but it's basically the same road.
Dan Patrick
Yes. Yeah.
Paulie
Paul, Buffalo also has some cap issues. They're over the cap and there's. They may lose an offensive lineman. They may lose a couple guys on defense like they did the past couple years.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah.
Todd
Todd and Josh Allen's still going to only be 30 in May, but when do you start getting a little bit of that panic of like, is that window gone? Or how close are we in the next few years for it to be done?
Dan Patrick
Well, if you're looking at, you know, a team down the road, you're looking at New England in the afc. You know, I can look at the Chiefs. Chiefs are older, Mahomes injured, don't know if Kelsey's coming back. What's Andy Reid's future? Jacksonville might be there. Jackson, you know, the Texans, you know, the C.J. stroud question mark is really, really big. The Chargers, they gonna get it right. Buffalo might be that, hey, we're gonna be a 10 win team for, you know, a couple more years. But you want to, you know, you gotta be threatening. Are the Ravens going to be better? You're bringing in a defensive coordinator as your head coach. Are you going to be better? Joe Burrow and the Bengals. I got a quarterback and two receivers, pretty good running back and I don't have a good defense and I'm going to have a lame duck coach. Yes, Marv.
Mike Golick
And the way the NFL is set up, there's a team that didn't make.
Todd
The playoffs that's going to be in.
Mike Golick
The playoffs next year. That might be threatening.
Dan Patrick
Well, there could be a couple of those teams. It feels like every year you got at least four weren't in last year and they're back in. We'll talk to Mike Golick senior. Your phone calls as well. The caller is always right, especially today. No matter what you say about Todd, he has to agree with you. Take a break. Back after this. Dan Patrick
Seahawks have been established as a four and a half point favorite over the Patriots and Super Bowl 60. I saw some final numbers for Matthew Stafford. If you include so 4,700 yards, 46 touchdowns, eight interceptions, one of his best performances ever, then you include the postseason where he played really well, including yesterday and I think he has a player option for this next season. And Sean McVeigh didn't want to answer the question. Matthew Stafford didn't want to answer the question either. Big Mike Golick, he was in Denver. He was part of the analysis on Westwood One Radio for the AFC title game between the Patriots and Broncos and of course co host a Goalie Congolic on FanDuel Sports Network. Big Mike, good to talk to you again. What were you expecting in that game?
Mike Golick
Well, I wasn't expecting two separate games, that's for sure. I mean you look at the highlights of the first half, looks like a normal game and it was beautiful. I was down on the field before the game and it was 20 degrees, it was sunny, there was no wind and that's how the first half played. And then the second half it just swept in a lot of wind, a lot of snow. So it really kind of changed the dynamics of the game. And I'm sure the coaches are checking this and knew hour by hour, but I don't think anybody expected it to be as bad as it was in the second half where both offenses were just muted.
Dan Patrick
If you knew that the conditions were going to be like that, would Sean Payton have changed his decision, do you think? With that fourth down call early, Sean.
Mike Golick
Payton should have kicked it anyway. And I said it, you know, I, I, I, it wasn't a hindsight for me doing the broadcast. They were lining up to go for it and I said why doesn't anybody take three points anymore? This is a rock fight game. This is a low scoring game. Even if it was didn't snow in the second half, it was going to be a low scoring game. You take the points when you can get it and then if you decide to go for it, you had a running play and you change it to a passing play. That pass play Dan, where the, where the rollout of the quarterback that's going to get quick pressure and normally you have a guy wide open without getting too much into the weeds and doing the exfoliate former football player analysis of the db, you know, letting the one receiver go and playing off on the other receiver, blah blah blah. It was great coverage by New England is what it was. But it's a play that lets quick pressure come on the quarterback and it's, it's a second string quarterback who isn't used to that. I have no idea why you ran that play and as I said on the broadcast before the play I would have kicked it gone up 10 nothing.
Dan Patrick
But do you think this, how much of this is gut, how much of this is analytics for Sean Payton?
Mike Golick
And that's a surprising thing, Dan, if you break down fourth down opportunities. We know Dan Campbel is a fourth down God, you know he's going to go for it. But in the regular season the, the, the, The Broncos were 10 of 20. They only went for 20 times which is a low amount in the NFL. They did not go for it a lot. And, and I, I think too much is put on analytics and not enough on gut of what I just said. It's a seven nothing game. It's a rock fight. Offenses are having a tough time moving the ball. Get points. Points are at a premium. Get points. Get up two scores with a backup quarterback. I think way too much is laid on analytics and not enough on hey, take the three points.
Dan Patrick
Patriots haven't been scoring but they don't give up many points either. That defense is very underrated. So what do you take away from that game or maybe this postseason starting with Drake May?
Mike Golick
Well, I mean they're a clean team and we talked to a couple of players during the week on Mike and I show and, and the word they always bring up with Mike Vrabel is variable. Stress is accountability. You're accountable for your job on the field. Do your job, trust your teammate next to you that he's going to do his job, pursue the ball which is a variable trademark obviously as a former linebacker, defensive player and play a clean game. They were one of the most, they were the, one of the most, least penalized teams in the NFL. They kind of play the old Belichickian way of let the other team make the mistake. And you saw Denver make the mistake. I thought it was a mistake not going for it on fourth down. But then the backward pass by Jared Stidham that led to New England's only touchdown. That was a key mistake in the game. They play clean, they play accountable and they play aggressive.
Dan Patrick
You have the call that Drake May calls on the bootleg and nobody else knew it. This is second year player Mike on the road with a chance to go to the Super Bowl.
Mike Golick
Well, this is Josh McDaniels. I mean that was a, a twofold. It was one. It was a safe play, so the ball wasn't going in the air. Now, Drake May has had trouble holding onto the ball. He fumbled the ball 14 times in the regular season and six in the postseason. But it was a very gutsy call that he was either going to make it or he wasn't. Right. There was no, no other way that was going to happen. The outside backer got beat, got sucked in on the. And because they were, they ran the ball so much in the second half, which helped play action, pass, which helped a bootleg like that ice the game.
Dan Patrick
I thought he had ample time, opportunities to run even more in that game. Yeah, yeah. I really thought that he was going to be their best weapon and, you know, he would throw it away. They ran it a lot, but it felt like there were openings there. And I wonder against Seattle if, you know, you're having a hard time with the pressure with the Broncos. You know, he might have to be a Josh Allen like figure in this Super Bowl.
Mike Golick
Listen, we've seen Josh Allen win games with his legs, and that's what Drake May did, especially in the second half when there was going to be no offense because of the weather. He was able to do it with his legs. And that was a, that was a planned boot run for the first down. But the runs he had scrambling and by the way, going into the game, he had 27 scramble first downs, which was the most of any quarterback in the league. So he was dangerous with his legs and moving the sticks. But if you saw most of his scrambles were up the gut because Denver does such a nice job of bringing pressure from the outside, normally from the inside. Their 2D tackles have combined the most pressures in the league this year, but there were holes that opened up that he could step up into and take off. And at times, if you're caught playing, man in the secondary, there's a lot of green to run, and he took advantage of it.
Dan Patrick
The Rams get eliminated and now you have the Matthew Stafford question. You know, we always talk about, oh, it's hard to walk away from a game like this. You all, you want to come back. You know, most of the time, you know, he stayed healthy. He's got another year left if he wants to come back. And you've got Pukinakua, you got tight ends, you got Sean McVeigh, got a running game. Why wouldn't he come back?
Mike Golick
Oh, I would think first off, you know, I understand reporters have to ask the question after the game, but you're never going to get an answer from a coach or a quarterback on what they're going to do. And I always feel, Dan, at the end of a season, every player is so mentally and physically drained that that's not the time to make a decision. And most players don't make a decision or if they make a decision right at the end of the season, a lot of times they change it after they've had a couple of months to relax the body and relax the mind and really take a breath and think about. Because what makes somebody retire, Dan, is the off season work. It's not the games. The games are the cherry on top. It's from February to August when no one's watching, when you got to put in the most work to give yourself the best chance to be a great player during the regular season. And players when they don't want to do that anymore and know that they won't be at their best if they don't put the work in, that's when they retire. So it's got to be a couple of months or maybe he knows already he's going to come back. I think he's going to come back. I mean, remember his back in preseason? We thought, my God, he may not even start the season and he's going to be the MVP this year. So I definitely think he's coming back.
Dan Patrick
Would you use one of your first round draft picks on a quarterback?
Mike Golick
Not in this draft class, no. I mean, this draft class. I mean where we talked about this possible draft class at the beginning of the year and where it is now. Absolutely not.
Dan Patrick
Ty Simpson, if he's available at 13.
Mike Golick
I, you know what the, the one good thing about Ty Simpson is or, or if he goes later in the first round is he'll sit. He only had 15 starts and it has been proven time and time again, less starts in college, less success early on in the NFL. But I, I, I have my questions about Ty Simpson. So no, I, I would not.
Dan Patrick
Are you ready for the Sam Darnold Redemption tour?
Mike Golick
Good for him. Right? I mean, obviously he has the issue every now and then a throwing interceptions, but he's had two great regular seasons. This was a great postseason. And how about, I know the fact that the stat is everywhere. He's, he's in the, in the, in the super bowl before Baker Mayfield, who was the number one pick. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, all in that same 2018 draft. So, yeah, congrats to him.
Dan Patrick
A couple other topics, Mike McCarthy to the Steelers. Your reaction was.
Mike Golick
Well, I mean, listen, he's a Pittsburgh guy. And now the thing about it is you're not going to get the long tenured coach like you did with Chuck. No Bill Cower and Mike Tomlin. You know, McCarthy, I think it's 62 or 63 years old. So you're not going to get a 15, 10 or 15 year run. I would doubt it. So. But he's a Pittsburgh guy. So I mean this, this cycle of coaches is bringing back coaches who have been head coaches and right now we've had obviously one coordinator get a job as a first time head coach. But it seems to be bringing back the former head coaches.
Dan Patrick
Is it fair to if you're an owner to be that you don't take the excuse of hey, I can't turn it around overnight. If you look at what some of these coaches have done, certainly what Brable did in New England.
Mike Golick
Well, I mean it. We've lost patience in the NFL. At least some teams have, right? I think Tennessee. Do you think they regret getting rid of Rabel the and Pittsburgh has been the ultimate kind of just relax and let our coach work through it. But I don't think there's enough patience in the NFL and you make changes and then you see where a cycle goes. Is it a lot of first time head coaches or is it coaches again? If you were a head coach and now you're either not coaching or you're a coordinator and you go back to being a head coach, most times you have a losing record. It's why you're not a head coach anymore. Right. But you're getting kind of redone in a, in different colors of another team and that seems to be now the rest of the coach. I don't know who's going coach Cleveland. Everybody keeps shutting them down and not going on to take their personality test and the IQ test or whatever the hell trying to test. They're trying to make coaches like some of those teams like Las Vegas, like Arizona, like Cleveland are going to have to get first time head coaches.
Dan Patrick
I brought this up last week. It didn't go over well, but I stand by it. If I'm the Raiders, I look at trading out of that top pick with Fernando Mendoza. At least shop it because I can't bring a good quarterback into a bad situation. I have to build a better situation to bring the quarterback in. And you need more than just a quarterback because you're going to put him in there and he could turn out to be David Carr or Tim Couch. You know where you just go, man, sorry we didn't have anything around you. It's not an indictment on him as much as it is the Raiders. Your thoughts.
Mike Golick
It's. It's a viable thought. It is now. It. You have to look at both sides of it. Right. And you absolutely should answer the phone and see what kind of a haul you can get, especially now, since this draft class really kind of went in the tank, quite honestly. So that makes that pick and that quarterback even more valuable to a team to maybe give up more. And if you get a haul to the point where you think you can't pass it up, the other side of that is Dan, you know, the quarterback position is the most overvalued position on the field. And it all depends. It doesn't matter what you think. Doesn't matter what I think. Doesn't matter what any, any former player thinks. It only matters what the Las Vegas Raiders have as a grade for Fernando Mendoza. And if they have a true franchise grade for him, then you have to take him. You can't pass on him to your thought of getting a bunch of other players and have that guy hit somewhere else. That. That's the worst ego. Ego hit that a GM and ownership can make is passing on a franchise quarterback. If their grade is a little lower on Mendoza, then you actually sing his praises and look for the best bidder out there and get what you can for him.
Dan Patrick
Did you like playing in the snow?
Mike Golick
Oh, I loved it. The most memorable snow game I had was 93 when I was with the Dolphins. We were playing Dallas and we had that short chip shot field goal to win it. It was blocked and Leon let came and slid and tried to recover the ball when it passed the line of scrimmage. Fumble. We recovered. Kick the field goal one. Oddly enough, that was our last win of the season and that was Dallas went on to win the super bowl that year. After that, I loved it because, Dan, I know this is hard to believe, but I was not that great of an athlete in the NFL. And playing in the snow brought everybody down to my level, which I enjoyed.
Dan Patrick
Great to talk to you. Tell your son we settle low. Thank you, buddy.
Mike Golick
I will thank Dan.
Dan Patrick
That's Mike Golick senior co host of Golic and Golic on FanDuel Sports Network and he was there. Westwood one for the Patriots and the Broncos. Best and worst of the weekend. We will have hours coming up. Suzanne in Illinois joins us now. Hi, Suzanne.
Caller
Good morning. I'd like to say to Todd, berating a teenage bagel shop employee for a supply issue makes you a horrible human being.
Mike Golick
You know what?
Todd
I've had a lot of time to think about that and there's no place for that behavior. And I wish I had an opportunity she works there anymore. I haven't been to that establishment of Wallace since they stopped making the onion bagels, at least not later in the day. And no tuna fish. But if she's listening right now or if I have an opportunity to mail her a note, I sincerely apologize. And that's my own immaturity. And when I get hungry, I get hangry. And I wanted what I wanted. And you know, whether whatever your age is, you just get hit with the.
Seaton
Crossfire supply chain issue.
Dan Patrick
The caller is always right. Today gonna take a break. Best and Worst of the Weekend. We will give you ours right after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. If you're in San Francisco coming out for the big game, we will be in the shadow of Oracle park, where the Giants play the China Basin and first come, first serve. As far as seats, they'll probably be standing room only. But if you get there early and often. Also if you stay, we will take pictures with you after the show, which we do every super bowl. Anytime we're out, whether it's the NFL draft, a Super bowl or some other remote, we're there to meet and greet. Say hello to you. Stat of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. Best and Worst of the Weekend Our two poll results. More of your phone calls as well. Todd, I'll start with you. Best and Worst Best of the weekend.
Todd
Three different freshmen scored more than 40 points tallying college hoops. BYU's AJ DeBance of 43 against Utah. Houston's Kingston Flemings 42 against Texas Tech. Illinois Keaton Wagler towered 46 against Purdue. They all set new freshman scoring records for their teams.
Paulie
Wow.
Todd
Worst of the weekend. Shockingly, the Broncos coming up short. It was not pretty. In city.
Dan Patrick
You were all set to get a steady city.
Todd
I couldn't wait. I really wanted to get that. Sal Pal was holding up this Orange City City T shirt. I was looking on Amazon for it and I was like, I'm ready.
Dan Patrick
Seton Best and worst My Best of.
Seaton
The weekend Sam Darnold. How great for him. That's just absolutely incredible. I think we grossly underappreciate quarterbacks who just make it to the super bowl. Whether they win or lose, just getting there alone is a massive accomplishment, especially for a player like him.
Paulie
That's great.
Seaton
I wouldn't want him quarterback in my team, but it seems like he found a home in Seattle and I hope that he does very, very well there. My worst of the weekend is Sean Payton. Not because the Broncos lost or not just because the Broncos lost, but because on the heels of the two weeks Cancun thing and also trying to humiliate a reporter by being like, what do you know about this and that? I bet that that reporter knew to kick the field goal. I bet that reporter did know that.
Dan Patrick
Marvin.
Mike Golick
My best of the weekend. Derrick Rose getting his jersey retired by the Bulls. Man, well deserved. Great for him. Worst of the weekend. I know he played.
Dan Patrick
All right.
Mike Golick
Devonte Adams, he's now 05 in NFC championship games.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, yeah. He was very emotional afterwards. It's because, you know, at his age, how many opportunities do you get to maybe get into a Super Bowl? Paul Best and worst.
Paulie
Best of the week. I got two best. Christian. Christian Gonzalez, the defensive back for the Patriots. Six tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one pass defended and an interception. And then the underrated Kenneth Walker, the third from Seattle. The running back ran for 62, caught for 50. Really nice game. Made some really nice plays late.
Dan Patrick
He had a play in the box where it looked like he was going to get tackled and the defender didn't even lay a glove on him. And like it was just one of those moves. Like Barry Sanders, you know, would have said, boy, that's an awesome move. Because it looked Barry Sanders like Robert in North Carolina. Hi, Robert. Best and worst of the weekend.
Caller
How you doing, Dan?
Dan Patrick
Hey, man.
Caller
Stole my. Hello, Stephen. Stole my best and worst. My best was. I'm glad for Sam Donald. I think he played excellent. I'll say a top 15 quarterback in the genius Sean Payton not kicking the field goal. I love it. That's all I have.
Dan Patrick
Robert, Sean in San Diego. Hi, Sean, Good morning.
Caller
Just want to say best investors, my Hawks going back to the Super Bowl. And the best part about it, they knocked out the Niner. Sorry, Mark. And the Rams to do it. But since everything's right today, wanted to shout out to Fritzi, Stevie, go ahead and talk about tell everybody how much he loved Super Bowl 48. When my Hawks Molly waps Another shout out to Marv. The Broncos 43. 8. Go ahead, Fritzy.
Todd
The first play of the game. It was so exciting to see the ball go sailing over Peyton Manning's head. And I'M like, this is going to be something. And I know it's 44, eight, whatever it was, it just went rolling. And I enjoyed watching my son throw a temper tantrum. We were watching in a hotel and he went out crying to the lobby and didn't see him for about an hour. And he was a little too young to be leaving on his own to be walking around a hotel lobby. But that was. That was wonderful. That was a wonderful experience.
Dan Patrick
Dan in South Bend. Hi, Dan.
Caller
Hey, Dan. Thanks for taking my call. My best is going to be Sam Darnold. I know guys have said it, but it should be heard a lot today. He did a great job. My worst is all the snow we keep getting in South Bend. We've got almost 2ft total this year so far. But I just, I wanted to talk to Fritz because I'm sure he agrees with me that the jets are going to win a Super bowl before.
Dan Patrick
Before Denver ever does.
Todd
That goes without saying. I don't know what. Denver just lost their window. As young as Bo Nix may be and they got this young team, but the jets are coming and the green could be ahead of the orange for that.
Dan Patrick
For that Lombardi caller is always right. Today, David in Ohio. Hi, David.
Caller
Morning, Dan. I just had a quick question for Todd out of the AFC West. I would say that Mark Davis has the best hair. When you agree, Todd. Thank you.
Todd
Mark Davis has lovely hair. I can only wish to one day have that kind of look. And with that hair, the Raiders, like.
Dan Patrick
The other teams, would you rather have your hairline or Mark Davis's hair?
Todd
I'm playing the role of this game that we're playing with, with Seaton's bed. I wish I looked like Mark and everything that goes with it.
Dan Patrick
Would you update the hour two poll question? See?
Seaton
Yeah, we got a few poll questions going on. If I told you in August the Patriots and Seahawks would be in the super bowl, which would have been more unlikely? The Patriots of the super bowl. Patriots have 68% of that vote. Do you view a field goal in the red zone as adding three points or losing four? 83% of the audience have it as adding three points. And who had the worst day yesterday? The jets franchise? The Vikings franchise? Fritzi or other man? It is awfully close between the Vikings and Fritzi. Awfully close.
Dan Patrick
Now, the Vikings moved on from Sam Darnold those last two games that he played for them. The jets, of course, drafted Sam Darnold. The jets also had the player who blocked the field goal for the Patriots who was just put on the active roster on Sunday. Correct.
Seaton
That's funny. I've been thinking of with the Vikings this whole time, I've been thinking of Stefan Diggs more than anybody else.
Dan Patrick
Oh, really?
Seaton
Yeah, yeah. I mean, he. He was the guy there for. For a long time. Superstar wide receiver. I know that they've replaced him with another, but.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Cardi B's in the Super Bowl.
Seaton
Yeah, she made it. All right, girl.
Dan Patrick
Some. Some shocker she got in front of a camera there and found her way to a camera. Yeah.
Seaton
All excited and was entertaining.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Jake and Buffalo. Hi, Jake. What's on your mind?
Caller
Hey, Dan. Quick point and then wanted to get Spritzy's opinion as far as the weather impact in the game yesterday. After the game, the Broncos kicker said on that field goal that was blocked, he thinks they were a yard too close because they couldn't see the lines on the field. So interesting to see the snow play effect there and then for Todd, with his name in the news over the weekend, I wanted to see what he thought about Philip Rivers. I always thought he was a great guy. Lost with class. Wanted to see if Todd agreed today with that.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, Philip Rivers interviewing with the Buffalo Bill.
Todd
I think the Bills should hire him right away because he never whines or complains or anything. Gosh darn it, hire the guy.
Dan Patrick
Two hours in, Todd. Only one more hour. Put up with the caller. Caller is always right.
Todd
Sweating a little bit here.
Dan Patrick
Two hours in the books. One more to go. Mark Schlerith, who was there in Denver for the game, he'll join us in the on deck circle. This is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human.
