It makes it real. Listen to new episodes of the War on Drugs Podcast, Season 2 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio. Well, maybe the series has your attention again. Surprise, surprise, the Pacers win it. And now up two games to one. Game four will be Friday back in Indiana. 877-3-DP-SHoVE email address dp@danpatrick.com Twitter handle @DPoSHoVE during the regular season, the Thunder were 61 and two when taking a lead into the fourth quarter. They've already lost as many games during the regular season with that stat. They're 1 and 2 when taking a lead into the fourth quarter of this series. And this might come down to conditioning because if you watch Indiana in the fourth quarter, they've been great in the fourth quarter. And it's almost like they use the first three quarters to just hold on and make sure they don't get too far behind. Or maybe they happen to have, you know, a lead at some point. But Oklahoma, Oklahoma City taking a lead into the fourth quarter. And you can see a different energy level, certainly with the Pacers, and that was evident last night, by the way, if you follow these trends of the previous 41 NBA Finals that were tied at one game a piece, the Game 3 winner went on to win what Percentage of the time tied at a game of peace? The team that won Game three went on to win the title blank. Percentage of the time Todd 69% of the time Seaton 63% Marvin 81 Paul 74 80% of the time Stat of the day, Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that Stat of the Stat of the Day, brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Mike Green was on the call for ESPN ABC last night. He'll join us in about 15 minutes from now, here's Tyrese Halliburton on the critics after the previous game. The commentary is always going to be what it is. You know, most of the time, the talking heads on the major platforms, I couldn't care less, honestly. Like, what do they really know about basketball? The commentary is what it is. At this point, you know, it doesn't matter. You know, we're here in the NBA Finals, two wins away from an NBA championship. So you just got to stay with it, put my head down, keep working. And as a group, we just got to keep learning from our mistakes, seeing where we get better and take it a day at a time. Yeah, you nearly had a triple double. They were more aggressive. You got a great performance from Benedict Matheran. He had 27. Now he's the first player to come off the bench and lead both teams in scoring in an NBA Finals game since Marvin. What's the year? I might give it away, Give it away, give it away now. 2011. Anthony Kiedis. Jason Terry. Yeah, Jason Terry. Bloop, bloop. The commentary is always gonna thank you. It's funny when they, like, athletes lump in, like. Well, the people saying all that stuff don't know what they're talking about. And, like, probably 50 to 75 of them are former players. Those guys don't know what they're talking about anyway, so I don't really listen to that noise because it's just, you know, a bunch of talking heads. Yeah, it's like Shaq saying, yeah, Barkley. I think he knows what he's talking. Barkley doesn't know. Call me crazy. Yeah, yeah, big perk. He didn't know what he's talking about there. Know what he's talking about. So I don't even listen to that big perk. So you have the NBA Finals going on. The Knicks are still looking for a head coach. Here's Charles Barkley on NBA tv. Pregame show. The Knicks got to be the stupidest damn people in the world. Like, you don't fire no good coach like that and don't have a plan. I mean, tips did a hell of a job. Obviously, something's going on there, but you don't have a plan. And now the three coaches turn you down. You gotta have a plan, man. I mean, I don't know what the hell they're gonna do. Well, okay, it looks bad now. The optics, as they like to say, looks bad. But when do you need a head coach? You'd like to have it right away if you're gonna Fire Tibbs and go, yes, this is why we fired him, because we brought in Michael Malone or whoever it is, or we're bringing in Jason Kidd. I mean, you're not bringing in Phil Jackson here. And that didn't even work out when you brought in Phil Jackson. Remember, Steve Kerr turned down the job, and I thought, gosh, he's going to turn down the job to coach Golden State. And then what a great move by Steve Kerr. I don't know if you get back to retreads, you're going to bring in candidates here, but at what point do you go, we have to have a coach in place. It's like Aaron Rodgers with the Steelers. My gut feeling all along was they had an agreement. He would come in, he would come in when he's ready. The coach knew about, and everybody should be fine with this. This is different. You fire that guy. You couldn't wait to fire that guy. And it felt like, okay, and here comes whoever, but you're going to have the draft. Do you need to have a coach if you're going to be trying to pull off for Trey, you know, for Giannis? Do you need to have a coach as well in there? Now, if that coach is Jason Kidd, then yes, you need to have him in place so he can be reunited with him. But other than that, the time frame doesn't look good. And maybe the NBA has said to the Knicks, this has happened before with a previous commissioner. Don't do anything to upstage the NBA Finals. Wait normally to fire somebody or hire somebody. But I can go back to one specific moment where the commissioner wasn't pleased because he didn't want an announcement to be made that somebody was going to be hired. He didn't want to take away from the NBA Finals. I don't know if that's the case, but trying to find a coach for the Knicks and seems like it's a little more of a struggle than we thought it was going to be. And all the goodwill you build up. This is exciting, it's fun. New York's alive. We got to the Eastern Conference finals. Well, you got to the Eastern Conference finals because Luck. Luck played a big role in guys getting injured. The two best teams weren't fully assembled. Now, granted, you play whoever's in front of you, but if you look at the reality of this, how good is that team? They're not better than the Cavs. They're not better than the Celtics at full strength. I think the Celtics are going to look a whole lot different this next season. Cleveland's probably going to keep their core four together and the Pacers are going to be there as well. Because you're not better than the Pacers. As much as you in your mind go where the Knicks. We're better than the Pacers. We don't even know if OKC is better than the Pacers. Indiana has played great basketball. Yeah, Seaton. And just because a team isn't laying out their plans for us in detail doesn't mean they don't have one. You know, I get that the. When there's sort of a vacuum of information, we try to fill it without any having any real information. But I don't know that I've ever seen a team sit down and say thank you all for being here. Now that we fire the coach, here's our three step plan moving forward. First, we're going to try to hire the this guy. If that guy doesn't work, then we're. I don't know that I've ever seen a. A team lay out. This is what we're going to do. This is exactly what our plan is. Now that we've made this surprising move, I would have liked to have had the Knicks. Somebody get in front of a microphone and explain what happened. Correct. You fired Tom Thibodeau. I'd like to have somebody who had the wherewithal, the guts, the confidence, whatever. Just tell the media, hey, this is why we moved on. Because as a Knicks fan, aren't you owed that, like, wait a minute, what happened here? And everybody's got an opinion about Tom Thibodeau and all. He works his players too hard and everybody says the same thing. But you gave him an extension last July, almost a year ago, you gave him an extension. Was he the same coach back then as he was this year? And the answer is yes. The guy who was his agent gave him that contract extension. That's what's baffling. You gave him a fully guaranteed contract for a guy that you probably knew before the playoff started you were going to fire. And then all of a sudden they started winning. And then Tatum goes out, the Cavaliers are banged up. Now all of a sudden you're in the Eastern Conference finals and you're probably going, damn, if we get to the finals, do we have to keep them? What are the candidates? Do we have the odds on who's the next head coach of the Knicks? Bowling. Yeah. The day after they fired Tibbs Fibs. It was Michael Malone was the favorite, overwhelmingly. Currently they have a bunch of different people, but basically it's Jason Kidd in the field? That's the DraftKings odds as of this morning. Okay, let's take Jason Kidd out of this because that hinges on the Mavericks giving permission. If there are any other names in there, I'd be curious. I saw where Mike Woodson's name surfaced. If you're bringing back Mike Woodson, is that a plan? Because it feels like, okay, here's plan A. We might be going down the Alphabet here with the New York Knicks. Are there any other candidates that are mentioned aside from Jason Kidd? Yeah, they have the assistant coach from the Cavs, Johnny. Johnny Bryant. Yes. And otherwise they don't have any other people because they took off Jay Wright. They took off Danny Hurley. Well, Hurley and Wright were never going to do this. It's wishful thinking. Hey, Danny Hurley grew up a Knicks fan. Okay. He, I think. I'm pretty sure the Knicks were on his short list of teams that he would coach. Yes, he, he did say if he's going to do anywhere, it's going to be like Boston, New York. It was going to be in the Tri State area, close to New Jersey. The Knicks are very much are probably number one on that list of teams he would coach. But then he did say, oh, I'm not going to go through this again after what happened with the Lakers. He's not ready to do that on a nightly basis with his personality, his temperament, he's. He might lose five or seven games in a season and have a hard time with that. You go to New York, you're going to lose 35 games. He might not be ready for it, but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't take at least his wife. They would be able to sort of stay in this area as opposed to going to Los Angeles. Yeah, but Jay Wright. Jay Wright's got it. Have you seen Jay Wright? He looks great. It looks like a million bucks. Sure seems relaxed, I can tell you that. Yes. Jay Wright is like, wait, what? You want me to what? I've already got a couple of national titles. I'm a Hall of Fame coach. I'm getting paid. Yes. I want to lose that for. Yes. Yes. Why do I want this to go fully gray? Yes, Paul, but if he joins the Knicks, he could look like 30 million bucks. No, he's going to get paid 30 million bucks. He won't look 30 million bucks. Can you imagine replacing Tibbs with Danny Hurley because Tibbs is too intense? That's the opposite of the narrative. Well, I don't think Tibbs was too intense. As much as his strategy was, I don't. I'm not trusting. I don't trust too many players. Therefore, they play a lot of minutes. Players aren't used to be playing a lot of minutes. Yes. Marvin. Yeah. His reputation is him running his players into the ground. Allah. Derrick Rose, Derek Rose got hurt. They were up by a lot in the playoff game. And Derrick Rose is still in the game. Yeah. ACL Tour, by the way, good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, that's our streaming partner, and we stumbled upon a storyline comparison, something because these NBA Finals lack star power. Let's be honest here. And then we thought, what are the best movies without star power? And I think initially we just came up with the usual suspects because they weren't big names. Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacy, great actors. One of the Baldwin brothers, Benicio Del Toro. So you didn't have those. Oh, who was the. Was it Joe Montana? Chaz Palminteri? Oh, I get those two mixed up. Yeah, yeah. That's not a good sign when it comes to star power. If you go, it helps your case. Oh, I know. When they're sitting in his office, I'm smarter than you. I'm smarter than you. Yes. Paul. That's one of those movies where it's awesome the first time and then less so as it goes on. It's still a great movie, but the. The shock of the reveal. Yeah. And he's walking down the street, pulls up the Jaguar. All of a sudden the limp goes away and you go, oh, my God, guys, I'm so sorry. That's a good flick. It's so well done. You know, Gabriel Burns, really good in that. Yeah. Guys are so sick. Del Toro, with the accent he does, you can't understand anything. Can't say that. Inster. McManus. Mr. McManus. Mr. McManus. Joe in Pittsburgh. Hi, Joe. What's on your mind today, guys? First time caller. Six foot three, 230 pounds. I got. I got two movies to add to the list. But first, if you guys will let me divulge, can I give you guys a crazy stat that will probably blow all your minds? Okay, so I know earlier we were talking about Andrew McCutcheon. I heard again, he's not hall of. He's hall of Fame. First off. Now, holla. Very good. But also, Paul skins. All right, 92 strikeouts this year, 1.8 ERA. His record is 4 and 6. Did you know that he's the only player in MLB history to have a sub 2.0 ERA through 13 starts? With 90 plus strikeouts and have a losing record. The Pirates, they got to do something with Paul Schein to the generational talent and it's just going to waste away in Pittsburgh, unfortunately. I hate to say that, but two movies here that I can't believe have not been mentioned yet. To add to the list, first and foremost, how about Rocky? No, we mentioned Rocky. Oh, you mentioned Rocky. Okay. Yeah, Fritz. I did. How about that? Okay. And then how about the Hangover? Great comedy. A lot of people consider it one of the best comedies. No one really knew Bradley Cooper at that time, so. Okay. I don't know what other movies Bradley Cooper did prior to that. He did Wedding Crashers where he crushed it as Sack Lodge. But he wasn't a big star. No, he was just really good in that role. Ken Jeong was not a star. Ed Helms, see, he office, he was also. Hey, he's that guy in that show. Zach Galifianakis. Let's see. No, yeah, yeah, that's a good movie. The other ones, these subsequent ones were, you know, when you watch a movie and you're, you're almost watching it with the people who probably put it together and you're like, I don't know how this, how do we end this thing? Like, where are we, where are we going? I don't know. We just bring Mike Tyson back in at the end of the movie. Yes, Marvin, the Hangover is the best movie theater experience I've ever had in my life. I saw it Friday, opening weekend. Really, the place was packed in the laughs. I mean, everyone belly laughing at every joke it hit. Unbelievable experience. Okay, all right. More on this best movie without a star or stars. And Mike Breen will join us. Take a break. Also Richard Jefferson. It's the Thunder and the Pacers and somehow he has the energy to speak to us today. And I'm curious about that. After you call a game like just you have to be energetic, enthusiastic on your game mentally. How tired are you after a game like last night? Well, especially with a game like last night, you're tired because it's a long day in terms of preparation, but you can't go to sleep for hours. It's just you're so wound up. Especially when you see a game that good, you want to talk about it. You want to talk with the people you work with. It's hard to fall asleep, but when you do, you're out. I probably would have slept till 2 o' clock this afternoon. Ruined my day. Dan. Thank you. Mike. Have you ever had the When's the last time you had the environment where you can't hear yourself? Wow. Well, you can always hear yourself because of the headphones, but there's often like I couldn't hear the whistle last night a few times. Couldn't hear the whistle in okc, a lot of those buildings, it's so loud. And that's why my hearing is deteriorating as I get older because you have to crank up the volume so high in your headphones to overcome the crowd. Plus they have, you know, a lot of arenas. Although last night was not necessarily the case. The music is blaring so loud as well that it's, it's, it's hard on the hearing in terms of long term hearing. But last night there was only a couple of times that I just couldn't hear the whistle. And you're looking for the rep to see if his hand goes up to see if a call was made. How often do you have sort of a premonition of what's going to happen or you're, you're planning for the game to go a certain way? Well, every single night and I think every broadcast team does this. All right, who you got tonight? Who you got tonight? Who you think? And I'll have stretches where I might get seven or eight in a row, like nail it. Oh, they're going to win big tonight. This is going to be a close one, but they're not going to be able to overcome. And then I'll go years without getting a single prediction. Right. What was your prediction for this or last night? You know, it's funny, it's funny you say that. So I really felt Indiana had a shot in game one. Didn't think it was going to happen that way. And then I just, I just knew Oklahoma City was going to, was going to blow them out in game two. Last night I, and anybody I spoke to, when they asked me what I think, I said I have no idea. Indiana is so unpredictable. They can look like nobody can beat them. They have stretches where it's, it's a struggle. So I had no idea last night going in, but there's just, there's something special going on with that team right now, that's for sure. And Brian Windhorse brought this up on ESPN this morning that with about 8:30 to go in the fourth quarter, it looked like OKC was a little winded. They were at the free throw line. They're holding onto their shorts. They're bent over. Meanwhile, the Pacers are upright there. I don't know if you got that sense or Doris or Richard got that sense of fourth quarter. Indiana has been the better team in these first three games. No question. Richard actually said it on the air last night. He saw it early on as well. And it's something you just have never seen both these Teams that they have thrived on wearing you down. For Indiana, in many cases, their offense is at such a pace by the fourth quarter, they wear you down. And obviously Oklahoma City, their defense is something that wears a team down as the game. Not only a game, but as a series goes on. But that's the first time I've seen the Thunder look that way. And there's such a confident team. Oklahoma City, for a young team, and rightfully so, by the way they played. They looked unsure themselves in addition to being fatigued, and I've never seen that from them. But also, if I look at OKC's big three, their average age is around 23. If I look at the big three for Indiana, their average age might be 27. I know it's four years, but four years can be 10 years when it comes to experience or just maturity there. Indiana hasn't been here before. Well, they've been to the Eastern Conference finals. But to be in the NBA Finals and I still wonder about that with OKC getting over that hump. Yes, you're ready. Feels like this is a graduation of we lost second round, we lost in the Eastern or Western Conference. Now we're in the NBA Finals. We've seen great teams who graduate to this moment. I just wonder the maturity of. We're asking 23 year olds, 22 year olds to do what the greats of the game did when they were maybe 27, 28. Man, I could not agree more. You know, the whole question for them coming in, are they ready? Are they too young? Is this their time? And they have to prove that. And certainly they've proved it so far. And even in the Denver series, I mean, this series is far from over. The Denver series, they lose that heartbreaker. Game one, win big game two, and then they lost in game three as well. And then they had a couple of really close games that were going to be tested against an Akola Jokic team. And they passed those tests. So now game four is going to be the next test and we'll see how they do. But there's enormous difference in that in terms of 23 and 27. And even though last year, Indiana, they, they got swept in the Eastern Conference finals, that, I know this sounds ridiculous, but that, that was a close sweep. Three of the games went right down to the final minute. They played well. They gained valuable experience. Last year in that Knicks series, they were down two zero, they were down three two. Won a game seven going away. I know the Knicks were a little banged up, but the paces have really grown in terms of playoff pressure. They've seen every possible scenario and they've seen it together. Continuity is the most underrated part of basketball. To have the same guys who know their strengths and weaknesses, who've been through the wars together. And that's what's showing right now. Indiana, they have a little bit more of that than Oklahoma City does. He's Mike Breen. He is the play by play host of the NBA Finals for the 20th year. Hall of Fame broadcaster. If we had a shooting contest between you, Richard Jefferson and Doris Burke, who's winning? Are we shooting free throws? Are we shooting three pointers? Are we shooting? You know, it all depends on the range. How about mid range, mid range game? You know, like SGA range, mid range game. I'll stack my game up with both of them. I've actually challenged Richard to, to a free throw shooting contest and he says he wants to do it, but he's never really the any idea in terms of trying to set a particular day for us to do it. I think he's afraid of me, quite honestly. Well, he has everything to lose, Mike. Yes, he does. Yes, yes, yes, he does. Your full time job is the Knicks broadcaster. Can you tell me what the Knicks are doing with their head coaching search? Well, they're obviously turning over every stone right now and that's, you know, there's a lot of good candidates still out there. It's been interesting to see how many teams have quickly said, no, you cannot talk to our coach. Although that's, that's understandable under contract. And at this point, I think, Dan, they can take their time. It's not like, I mean, there's a lot of still coaches out there I think they can talk to, but there's no need to rush it now. They really need to do their homework, talk to people. Talk not only to the candidates, but people who play for the candidates and do an exhaustive search because there's no need to rush it now. It's such an important decision if you fire your coach. Did you have a successful season? Wow, that's an interesting way to put it. I think so. I do. I think they had a very successful season. They've taken the next step. I was certainly surprised at Tom Thibodeau being let go from a standpoint of success and results. It's hard to say why, but clearly there was stuff behind the scenes that, that were going on that they felt it was time to make a change. But yes, it was, it was a very successful season in my opinion. Didn't you get criticized that you didn't give Tyrese Halliburton a bang because it was a mid range jumper or one of three, I should say. Is that your policy, that it's got to be a three for a bang? Well, I haven't checked the rules and regulations and the policy. I think the warranty on the policy is out. But no, there's really no. Sometimes it's a field. In many cases, I prefer it on a three pointer. On this particular play, he was moving so quickly. Also, sometimes too, I like doing it on a home team. Big bucket because the crowd overtakes it. That's one of the reasons I started yelling bang. Because I needed a concise call when the crowd overwhelms everything. But that was just more of, you know, this is an unbelievable finish. He has a chance to win and that's the way it came out. But yes, I received criticism. I've been attacked, but it's all part of the game. Have you ranked your bank calls? Oh, Dan, no. Don't you start now asking me that. No, I have not ranked my. That's for. That's for the viewers to rank the bank calls. I can't do because I would say Steph Curry. I thought that that one. What Was that? The 40 footer that he hit against OKC. That. I think that kind of started it. But I also. Ray Allen, Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. Where does that bang in this discussion? Yeah, yeah, no, the Curry thing. I was the first double bang. And that was. That was. It was a special time. It was everything that led up to it. And I would agree with. That's. That's one of my favorites. The Ray Allen one is. Is clearly as well because he doesn't hit that. It changes who wins the title that year. Playoff ones are special to me. Derrick Rose hit a game winner in Chicago for the Bulls in a playoff game against LeBron. Jeremy Lin had a couple of great bangs that. That were really exciting during two and a half weeks to some of the most fun games I've ever been a part of. So there's been. There's been a decent amount that I've enjoyed. Will there ever be a triple bang? Mike, stop. I want you on record. Will there be. What would. What would bring about a triple bang? I think. I think I would sound like an idiot if I did a triple bang. But again, it's not premeditated. The double bang came out naturally. It just was so exciting. So maybe in a finals game, if a guy Hits a three pointer at the buzzer to win a finals game and to win a championship. That's the possibility. How about that? Tyrese Albertan, game on the line and he hits a three and they win the title. I. I have no choice but to do it then. Okay. I'm under severe pressure to do it then. Now I'm going to watch the finals. Pressure. You know, now this is unforgivable, what you're doing. How does pressure feel, Mike? It doesn't feel very good. Are you gonna. Do you rest your voice today? I do. Like, what do you do today? I drink a lot of tea with honey. I actually, I don't talk on the phone because I had an ears, nose, and throat guy tell me that when my voice is struggling. Don't talk on the phone because people tend to talk louder on the phone. I was not aware of that. Are you aware of that? Yeah. If you've ever been on a plane when somebody lands and then they're getting ahold of somebody who's going to pick them up, listen to how loud that person is. Yeah, just landed. Okay. I don't agree. Hold on a second. I have a call. Okay, I'll call you later. See, but whatever. If there's problems with you and your wife and you don't get on the phone and you want to text, I understand that. I mean that, but that's. That's. That's on you, Mike. I don't need to hear that. I can use it. I can use it to my advantage. Hun. Ah, the voice. I'll text you. I'll text you. Hey, great to talk to you again. Thanks for joining. Thanks for joining us, Mike. Bang brain or bang bang or bang bang bang brain. Next game coming up on Friday night. Indianapolis. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching on Peacock, we just showed you a portion of an interview with Mike Love, lead singer of the Beach Boys. Brian Wilson, the founder of the Beach Boys, passed away yesterday and there were so many different books, documentaries, articles Written on Brian, they all seem to focus on him being like this mad genius and probably is an apt description of him. I love the fact that he put sand underneath his piano in his living room when he was writing music for the Beach Boys. He wanted that feeling of the beach and he put sand underneath his piano. But also he came up with Pet Sounds. And if you are not familiar with the Beach Boys, listen to the sound of the. Of Pet Sounds because that helped bring about something new. It changed music because it's technically everything about it is, you know, one of the top five albums, I think, of all time in rock and roll music. But it also changed the Beatles, because the Beatles were, you know, hold my hand, she loves you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then all of a sudden it spawned the sergeant peppers. McCartney realized, oh my goodness, we have to. We have to change. We have to up our game. And that brought about sergeant Peppers and it changed music, changed music history with that album. And then, you know, there the story was that Brian went crazy after that because he thought he had created the perfect album and realized the Beatles just one upped him like a year later. It's like, wait a minute, what did they do? Also a lot of tributes to Sly in the Family Stone. And which is great because they were. They were before everybody. When you, when you look at that style, that sound, whether it's Parliament, George Clinton, whether it's Prince, this was Sly in the Family Stone before them. And just listen to, like there's organ, a bass, like, there's some real great, great sounds with Sly and the Family Stone. But you'll see a lot of tribute videos and they have to do with Prince because Prince acknowledged that he understood what was going on and paid tribute to Sly and the Family Stone with redoing some of their songs. And really that's not what Prince did. Prince would write songs and people would try to do a cover of Prince song as opposed to the other way around. But Sly in the Family Stone and Brian Wilson, it's just people are put on this earth for things, and that's what they were put on this earth for. Brian Wilson was put on this earth to hear these sounds and put these sounds down on an album and the, the harmonies. And he drove, you know, the, the rest of the Beach Boys crazy where he was looking for that perfect harmony. It had to be that it, you know, the sound of this. And. And if you listen to Sly in the Family Stone when he was doing it, when they were doing it, it's just, it's Different. They were different. Yes, there are. You know, like, when somebody like that dies, a lot of tributes come out. And there's like, artist after artist right now who would post about Brian Wilson saying, like, he made me do the vocals for this song 60 times because he was hearing something that I just wasn't hearing. And, like, I was doing it as good as I could, but it still wasn't good enough for him until finally it was. And then you're like, wow, he heard that. And, like, I can't hear that at all. And we do the same thing, you know. Yet to be able to hear something so small, so minute, but so important to that person, you know, Clint Eastwood famously doesn't have many takes on his movie set. It might be two. You go, okay, whether. And then there'll be other directors be like, let's do it again. Well, it's 40 takes. But they're looking for something. They're listening for something. And that, you know, that separates a lot of people from being. You're really good to your genius. Yeah. Paulie, One of the best songs from Pet Sounds, that song God Only Knows. I'm not gonna try to sing it. You know it from the end of Boogie Nights. They do that long montage to end Boogie Nights. And God Only Knows is a song in there and just perfect for that film. Just listen to the harmonies. And there was competition between the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Now, you wouldn't think it, but there. There were because they were pop sounds. You know, the Beatles were popping. And then all of a sudden, I mean, that's what separates them from everybody else. That if One Direction or one of these boy bands, all of a sudden did Helter Skelter or sergeant Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour. I mean, all of the. The music that they. They created, it was, yeah, we can be the biggest pop band in the world. We can also do that. And nobody else can do that. But Pet Sounds, it's widely considered one of the top five albums of all time. Rock and Roll. Rolling Stone usually has it top five, but they varied. Where I think one year they had Marvin Gaye's what's Going on as the number one rock and roll album of all time. Now, I love Marvin Gaye, but I wouldn't consider that the number one album of all time. And then I think the Beatles were on there and maybe one of the other ones. But they tend to come out every 20 years where they rank the top 500 songs of all time. Yes, Mark. And I know how much you love List Yeah. Yeah. Well, okay. What really set me off is thanks for bringing it up, Marvin, is when the Mothership was looking for the greatest college player of all time and that they had Michael Jordan as the greatest college basketball player of all time. And I go, that's embarrassing. I mean, great player. He. He wasn't the best player on his own team. He did hit a shot to win a national title. But they're Kareem Lou Alcindor's greatest college player of all time. Christian Laitner is ahead of Michael Jordan. And I'm not talking talent. I'm talking about resume. Mike was a great talent, but he was an unknown talent. But to have Michael as the greatest college basketball player of all time, that was for clicks. And that even Michael would tell you he's not the best college basketball player of all time. Yes, Paulie, I have that Rolling stone list from 2023. 500 greatest albums. You want the top 10? Quickly. How many Beatles are in there? Three. I got a Bob Dylan. I got a Prince. Checking. My computer's freezing up. Of course. So Dylan is in there for Like a Rolling Stone? Yes. Okay. Prince. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Lauryn Hill's ten Great Album. Fleetwood Mac, Rumors. Yeah, yeah. Nirvana, Nevermind, the Beatles, Abbey Road, Stevie Wonder, Songs in the Key of Life. No Objections, Joni Mitchell, Blue, the Beach Boys, Pet Sounds is two. And Marvin Gaye's what's Going on is number one. Yeah. Love Marvin Gay. Absolutely great. Him and Sam Cooke two are my favorite artists. Great vocals. All right, Drew in California. Hi, Drew. What's on your mind? Good morning, gentlemen. Thanks for taking my call. Long time. First time. 6, 1, 2, 20. For a great movie with zero stars, my choice is Breaking Away, 1979. It was low budget and it got nominated for the Academy Award for that year. Starting role was kind of a nobody, Dennis Christopher, who didn't get very big, but it had some young, totally unknown actors like Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern. And probably the biggest star of the of the time was the guy who played Kelly Leak in the Batons Bears, Jackie Earl Haley. Yeah, good call there, by the way. The Thunder favored by six. Coming up on Friday night, Phil in Iowa. Hi, Phil. 132. My movie selection is going to be Scream. I'm going back to the Slashers. You got Drew Barrymore in the opening scene. You have Nev Campbell and Courtney Cox, David Arquette before he was in anything big that I remember. And Matthew Lillard. And then on the Brian Wilson subject, the Barenaked Ladies did a song called Brian Wilson. They'll probably make you smile if you haven't heard it. Oh, cool. No, thank you. When I was around the Bare Naked Ladies, they were wonderful guys. They had no idea who I was, but they were really wonderful people. And just in the moment, having a great time. Seaton, would you update the poll results from the second hour of the program? Heck, yeah. Let's see. Who do you have winning the finals right now? The NBA Finals, to be more precise. Precise. You have two options. The Pacers and the Thunder. That is at 53 Pacers. All right. What is with that? Recency buys. Yeah, I think it should be higher at the recent. Oh, you do? I think the bias should be higher in favor. Okay. All right. That seems kind of crazy to me. Yeah, I mean, well, the fact that Fritz, he's now taking the Pacers, you would think that that would have some people be a little leery. Pacers and seven. Yeah, I forgot about that part. Y. You can't change, Todd. You made a prediction. Thunder and six. Now I feel like it's Pacers. We said see bias. God only knows how I feel about. We're not gonna do that. No. We banned from singing for a while. Yeah. Yeah. God only know. God. Great song. Two hours in the books. One more to go. Todd, Marvin, Paulie, Seaton, yours truly. We're back after this. This Pride Month, we are not just celebrating. We're fighting back. I'm George M. Johnson, author of the most banned book in America. On my podcast, Fighting Words, I sit down with voices that spark resistance and inspire change. This year, we are showing up and showing out. You need people being like, no, you're not. What?
