I want to tell you about my new true crime podcast, Crimeless Hillbilly Heist from Smartless Media, Campside Media, and big Money Players. It's a wild tale about a gang of high function nitwits who somehow pulled off America's third largest cash heist. Kind of like Robin Hood, except for.
B
The part where he steals from the rich and gives to the poor.
A
I'm not that generous. It's a damn near inspiring true story for anyone out there who's ever shot for the moon, then just totally muffed up the landing.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio Hour 2 on this Monday, Dan and the Danettes Dan Patrick show. And if you're watching on Peacock NBA jersey day. That's our NBA jerseys. Todd has his Knicks jersey. Seaton is Bronnie James jersey. Marvin has Anthony Edwards with his jersey. Paulie has Steph Curry. I have a Luca Doncic. NBA tip off starts tomorrow on NBC. And Peacock, so you get the Thunder and Rockets. Do you see Kevin Durant's contract extension? Two years, $90 million. What is he, almost 40?
A
Yeah, I think so.
B
Averaged 26 a game last year. That was an oh, by the way, Phoenix Suns, 26 points. You have the warriors visiting the Lakers at 10 Eastern. And of course the Lakers without LeBron. 877-3-DP-SHOP email address dp dan patrick.com Twitter handle @dpshow Stat of the day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. First hour, we talked a lot about the Giant situation, the comeback and the collapse. We also talked about Shohei Otani, the greatness that we saw. But you had a lot of carnage in college football. The Colts are still winning. The Colts winning against the Chargers in Los Angeles. That might open your eyes a little bit more. It feels like people are waiting for the Colts to be the Colts and not be a great team. But I do think they have a better than average defense. Daniel Jones has played well. He doesn't, you know, there's, there's not turnovers. Jonathan Taylor has played really well. They have some playmakers there. And I think that kind of win is one of those wins where you go, okay, things that make you go, hmm, yes.
A
Marvin is Daniel Jones this year. Sam Darnold.
B
He might be. And the fact that they were both in Minnesota, Minnesota moved on from both of them. And they've got Carson wentz now because JJ McCarthy is still not healthy enough. All right, 8 7, 7, 3, DP show email address dpdanpatrick.com Twitter handle @DP show the timing of your loss is really important because there are certain teams. Miami lost. They can't afford another loss. USC lost, they can't afford another loss. Notre Dame couldn't afford another loss with the win against usc. Ole Miss is okay. Can't afford another loss. I mean, that's. That's not a bad loss, losing in Georgia. There's certain team like lsu now you're in trouble. Certain teams that you're going to be out of the picture because they're not taking three lost teams. It's. You get two, you don't get a third. Yes, Marvin.
A
Ole Miss, they should probably be kicking themselves because they were outscored 17 and nothing in the fourth.
B
Yeah.
A
So that's one of those games where it's like, oh, we should have had.
B
That Vandy over lsu. Florida has fired their head coach, Billy Napier. The Louisville win against Miami, I've watched a lot of that. That was it. I kept waiting for Miami. It's like, this is your moment, man. Can't lose to an unranked Louisville team. We got football tonight. Buccaneers, Lions, Buccaneers getting six. Texans and the Seahawks. And the Texans are getting three in that one. And then you've got game seven, Mariners and the Blue Jays. Seaton, update the poll results from hour one and then we'll dive into hour two. Yeah, hour one. We usually go negative on Mondays.
A
We did this Monday.
B
Who had the worst weekend in the NFL?
A
Jets, Giants, Raiders, Steelers. Right now. Giants running away with that one.
B
We also have just a regular worst of the weekend. That's Brewers, Wisconsin, Florida State or lsu. The brewers barely beating out Florida State. And then a very close race with Wisconsin and lsu. Very close. See, I didn't my expectation level for the brewers now not to see them get swept, but I didn't think they were going to win this series. So I don't. I think they overachieved. It felt like. I know that, you know, it's hard to walk away from the NLCS and go and get swept and go, hey, there's some positives there. But that's the way I would look at it. Even with the Giants lost to Denver. Yes, it's embarrassing, yes, painful. But you, you have players who can play and hopefully you learn from that. You know, losses are the great teacher, not winning. When you lose, if you learn, then you don't lose again. That's the big difference. There are teams that they lose and they continue to do the same thing like the Jets. That is bad. That's a bad situation. And I want to be fair to Aaron Glenn because he wanted this job, he got this job. Be careful what you asked for. And you talked about Justin Fields being benched yesterday.
A
I understand the nature of the quarterback change. Listen, we needed a spark at that time. I felt it was the right time to do it. Obviously it was a tough situation for both of those guys, but it was my call. It was my call and I felt it was the right time to do it. So when it goes into next week, I'm not ready to sit here and say what's going on happen with next week with our quarterbacks. But I will say this. There's something to have to look at.
B
Didn't he bark at reporters when they ask about making a change at quarterback? He made him sound like he was Joe Namath six days ago. The Chargers, I don't know what to make of. They're 4 and 3. I believe you beat Kansas City, but if they played again now they're not beating Kansas City. You beat the Raiders, who aren't any good, beat Denver, lost to the Giants, lost to the Commanders. You beat Miami, they're not any good. And you barely beat Miami and then you let the colts put up 38 on you still don't know exactly what they have there. I know what they had yesterday and those are terrible uniforms.
A
Oh, no.
B
Like why? Why? Yeah, it's like when. When Brad Pitt said that he tried to ugly himself up, you know, just to let level the playing field here. Going to let myself go a little bit. The Chargers have the best uniforms in sports, certainly the NFL. Yes, they were still the second ugliest uniforms on the field that day.
A
Hot take.
B
No way. Those Colts uniforms are boringly sharp. They're butt. They are good. Wow. Wow, those uniforms stank. Paulie, you're the uniform Budsman or on Buttsman.
A
Yeah. I'm surprised Seton has such a hot take about the Colts because the Colts uniforms are somewhat. They can either be plain and boring, but not offensive or ugly. I think they're sharp or clean, but never in the top five.
B
Okay, is Penn State their uniforms similar to the Colts?
A
No, the Penn State uniforms are iconic.
B
The Colts uniforms, they look like when.
A
You went into the back of the.
B
Sears catalog and you ordered football team uniform, that's what they would send you.
A
You can get it in any color you want.
B
White and blue. That's what they would send you. Generic football team uniform. Penn State's generic too. Yeah, but they're cool. The Colts have won more than Penn State has through. Through history, maybe. Through history. Through history, kinda. Penn State's job search is ongoing. And I was told by a friend this morning, he said, I don't see Matt Rule leaving Nebraska go to Penn State. And he said, not that he wouldn't want to go because he's best friends. I think with the athletic director, it's. You can't bring in a guy to win big games who's not winning games at Nebraska. But also there's going to be a program that gets Franklin. James Franklin's going to go somewhere. And that Fran, you know, fan base is going to go, look at who we got. Like Virginia Tech. If you got James Franklin, you'd be like, hey, Florida, hey, look at who we got. It's just not good enough for a program that's expecting you to win big games. And I wish they would have pressed him a little bit on game day. I know it wasn't, it wasn't the place to do it, but it just felt like it was a rehab. Stay where you go. You know, friendly fire here. Nobody's going to ask tough questions. Coach Saban will be on my side because you got to ask him, why didn't you win the big games? What role did you play? You know, how would you address your reputation of not winning big games? What was missing in those games? Would you have fired you if you weren't performing like that? Now you can't ask that question, not with people holding up signs and pictures of Herbie's dog and stuff. But I was hoping they would have let Rhys Davis do a one on one with James Franklin because Franklin didn't do any media and I don't blame him. So you got a soft landing on college game day. You know, in that atmosphere, you can't really get something. I mean, we reached out, but. And those are the questions I'd be asking him. He's going to get paid no matter what he does, but he's going to have an opportunity to coach.
A
Yeah, Paulie and Penn State didn't help the cause by losing at Iowa this weekend. You don't get a higher draft pick if you lose your last five or six games. You're not tanking. Get a better coach.
B
Corey in Virginia. Hi, Corey. What's on your mind?
A
What up bp?
B
Hey, Core. Long time, second time.
A
Thus I am foreboding from providing my height and weight again. I have a question for you and the starting five there, maybe even the potential hour two poll question, because I do think this makes a good sports radio conversation.
B
Which is worse?
A
Having your team play a game that ends at two in the morning a la Florida State Saturday night or having your team play a game that starts at 6:30 in the morning a la.
B
The LA Rams yesterday? I, I'd rather I can get up at 6 a 6am I, I have a hard time staying up at till 2 in the morning. Yeah. But thank you. Thank you, Corey. Yeah, the two in the morning, that's one of those where you wake up, you're going to go to the bathroom and you're like, let me check my phone here and see. Oh wow. North Carolina lost at Cal. Florida State lost. Yes. Paulie, I just did a quick check.
A
Based off what Marvin said about Daniel Jones being this year's Sam Darnold. Daniel Jones is a complete unrestricted free agent after this season.
B
Yeah. Good for him. Whoa. Good for him. At 29, he has the talent. I just don't think that he was built for New York. And when they traded away Saquon, like if they had him and Saquon, I thought, okay, you have your insurance, you, you have, you always have him. And then all of a sudden you can't lean on him to win games. And Jonathan Taylor's been wonderful. Bob and Mason. Hi, Bob. Hey.
A
Hey, bud. First time, long time.
B
511 and 78 and a soft 250. Soft. Best of the week still is the Bengals being the Steelers and one of.
A
Your sponsors would like this is what we all say in Cincinnati now.
B
Oh, better get Flacco. Nice, Bob. Worse. I'm a little tad bit tardy on this dance. Sorry. 55 years ago this week, the Reds, the Orioles in the World Series. The Reds lost. The orioles pitcher Dave McNally pitched a complete game, but in the sixth inning he hit a grand slam against the Reds. Only pitcher to ever hit a grand slam in the World Series. Oh, how about that one? Well, stat of the day, Marvin. Oh, the day. We love your of the day. Start of the day. Oh, damn.
A
Give us the stat of the day.
B
That's Pandora. Stat of the Day, brought to you by Panini America, official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. Are we going to see Pandora in Vegas next month? Is she going to stop by to give us a live version of stat of the Day?
A
Let's hope so. Doesn't seem like a morning show person. She's more like a clubbing.
B
No, no, I think she's got, like, a ranch outside of Reno. Oh, I think she's up.
A
I mean, like, maybe it's a smoky bar rendition.
B
I think that's just how my Pandora sounds. Yes.
A
Todd, do we set up a piano.
B
That you can kind of dance on top of? No, no, no, we're not dancing. No, I want her just laying across the piano.
A
That'll be fun.
B
Like Michelle Pfeiffer did. Exactly. Yeah. And if we can't get Pandora, maybe see if Michelle Pfeiffer would like to join us.
A
That would be it. I'll drive her to the set, then I'm milking these cows. Hold on. I've got to drive this cattle here.
B
Yes, Marvin.
A
Nope, I'm out.
B
Okay. Ohtani is the third player to have multiple home runs and at least 10 strikeouts as a pitcher in the postseason in a career. Dave McNally hit two home runs and a grand slam and 14 games. Bob Gibson, two home runs in nine games. So that was painful. The Orioles, with that pitching staff in 1970 against the big Red machine, they were great. But that was Brooks Robinson. Brooks Robinson put on one of the greatest fielding shows ever, ever. Hated Brooks Robinson until I met him. And then you couldn't help but love Brooks Robinson. Great guy. All right. Robert Griffith Jr III, as McLovin would say, will join us. Coming up, more of your phone calls as well. Ron Darling will join us top of next hour. He was on the call for Shohei Ohtani's historical night. We're back after this on the Dan Patrick Show.
A
Be sure to catch the live edition.

What? Yeah. Ernie Shackleton sounds like a solid 70s basketball player who still wore knee pads. Yes. It's gonna be a whole lot of history, a whole lot of funny, and a whole lot of guests. The great Paul Scheer made me feel good. I'm like, oh, wow, Angela and Jenna, I am so psyched you're here. What was that like for you to.
B
Soft launch into the show?
A
Sorry, Jenna, I'll be asking the questions today.
B
I forgot whose podcast we were doing.

Weekly horror side quests written and narrated by yours truly with a full episode read and a commentary special. And we will cap it off with Horror Movie Battle Royale. Jason versus Freddy, Michael Myers versus the Alien Thing with the Little Tongue Monster. October. We're doing it Holl. Halloween style. Listen to the Traverse podcast from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. The Rich Russians Falling out of Windows podcast is back. Sad oligarch season two. Since we left you in 2023 after season one, many politically motivated Russian millionaires have continued to die in suspicious circumstances. We dig deeper into these odd deaths, which include everything from mushroom poisoning and mysterious heart attacks to window clumsiness and suicide by decapitation. One thing we have found since we started back in 2022 is the information on the suspicious deaths has become much harder to find. Not just that. It seems as if state controlled media in Russia is being utilized to purposely confuse and contradict the reporting that gets put out. As you can probably imagine, season two gets very weird. Listen to Sad Oligarch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. The Internet is something we make, not just something that happens to us.

Is not just about tech.
B
It's about culture and policy and art.

And expression and how we as humans exist and fit with one another. In our new season, I'm talking to people like Anil Dash, an OG entrepreneur and writer who refuses to be cynical about the Internet.
B
I love tech, you know, I've been.
A
A nerd my whole life. But it does have to be for something. Like, it's not just for its own sake.

It's a fascinating exploration about the power.

B
Often 12 hours away. They're not going to be like, we.
A
Don'T like the terms of service, therefore we're not trading rice this season. It's an inspiring story that focuses on.
B
People as the core building blocks of the Internet.
A
Platforms exist because of the regular people on them. And I think that's a real important story to keep repeating. I created There Are no Girls on the Internet because the future belongs to all of us. New episodes every Tuesday and Friday. Listen to There are no Girls on.

Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology PodC. Clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face when you think about emotion regulation. Like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it, if it's going to be beneficial to you. Because it's easy to say like, like go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just.
B
Like walk the other way.

Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is Easy, complex, problem solving, meditating, you know, takes effort.

Podcasts. More phone calls coming up. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you like, what you didn't like over the weekend. 877-3-DP show. I was watching Utah in BYU, the Holy War with BYU winning once again. RG3 was on the call out of pocket with RG3. Also check out his podcast, RG3 joining us. I felt for you guys because you had this atmosphere. You were trying to capture the atmosphere, the sound, the backdrop, everything. I mean, did you feel that? Like, we couldn't understand the crowd noise. You kept talking about this noise, but the atmosphere was unbelievable.
A
Yeah, Dan, it's. It's the best rivalry in all of college sports, and I was honored to be a part of it. With play by play, Jason Benetti and our sideline reporter, Alexa Lana Story. You know, a state of Utah that is basically a band of brothers wearing red and wearing blue. And then one day out of the year for the last century, they go to war. You know, it's a rivalry that splits families, husbands and wives, children, cousins. And then, you know, on Sunday, they go to church and they're all back singing the same song. So it was really cool to be a part of that. Kalana Sitake, the head coach for byu, you know, the loving Samoan. And then you got Utah with Kyle Whittingham. It was, it was an interesting dynamic that was fun to be able to capture.
B
The worst loss of the weekend, NFL or college was turned in by who?
A
Oh, my. Yeah. I mean, that's easy, Dan. That's the New York Giants. I really feel for New York sports fans right now. It's. It's not pretty. Yankees get booted from them the postseason. You got the jets at 0 and 7. They don't even really have a quarterback right now. And then the giants give up 33 points in the fourth quarter and find a way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.
B
But the Giants feel hopeful from the standpoint of they did compete. They've got some players. So I, my takeaway is, yes, that one hurts, but it could be helping you build something here in the near future.
A
Yeah, I mean, if you're looking at draft picks, of course, you don't want to have the greatest season of all time so you can build some more pieces around Jackson Dart. But you got to be careful because, you know, you saw, was it Brian Banks in The walking to the locker room, you know, talking about just the frustration of what's going on. Those guys in that locker room have pride and they want to win games this year. The guys aren't looking forward to the next couple years. Like maybe some people in the front office might be, if they're even there. But to your point, the, the positivity from having Jackson Dart play so well and having Cam scatter, you know, bring that type of energy is good, but I think they're going through a process of learning how to win. Know, you see this a lot of times when, when changes are made at the quarterback spot. The team is just so used to losing that they find way to lose games that they 100% should win. Dart is a, a game changer. I knew that when he was at Ole Miss, you know, throwing the football around. But for the Giants, you just can't allow Bo Nix to become Bo Jackson in the fourth quarter.
B
Okay, did you play on a team where you felt like defeat was inevitable in the NFL?
A
Ooh, that is a great question. You know, I was a part of the team in Cleveland that went 1 in 15. So that year was weird because that was probably one of the closest teams I'd ever been on as far as the camaraderie in the locker room, really. But you would, they would. We would find ways to, to lose games. And there was another team that I was on in Washington in 2015 when I didn't play a snap, and that team might have been the most divided team I've ever been on, and we won the division championship, but it's.
B
How do you get divided? What happens?
A
You know, it's. There's. It's kind of like the Eagles right now, right? They come off a victory, but you can hear A.J. brown after he catches a touchdown, and he's, he's like saying to the, to the camera, throw me the ball. Like they're winning games, but guys are not necessarily. Maybe not getting their numbers. They're not feeling like they're getting used the right way. And on that 2015 team, I believe we had DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon. Kirk Cousins was the starting quarterback that year. And for whatever reason, there was just dissension in the locker room, and the talent overcame the dissension and we were able to win the championship. Whereas in Cleveland, we were close knit tight, but we just weren't able. Maybe we were too young. We had like five rookie wide receivers and, you know, we got rid of a lot of our veterans, and it's why it's so difficult to win in the NFL because they're trying to figure out how to make quarterbacks successful. They're trying to figure out how to make the team successful. And they don't have a perfect recipe for it. But I think it all boils down to identity. That team in Cleveland in 2016 didn't have an identity. That team in Washington in 2015 had an identity. It was just dysfunction. And everyone bought, everyone bought into the dysfunction. And we found ways to, to win games. So there's no recipe for it. But I think if you have an identity, that is the start. And the Giants are building that identity and they need to lean into Cam Scatter Boo and Jackson Dart 100%.
B
Bill Cower said that it looked like the Dolphins players were disinterested.
A
Ooh.
B
Now that's not saying you quit, but it's close. Yeah, it's close. Maybe it's semantics. It's a friendlier word. What does disinterested mean to you as a former player?
A
It means that the Miami Dolphins need to blow it all up, Dan. They, they have to fire Mike McDaniel. And I do also believe they have to get rid of Tua, Tanga, Violoa, and, and I'm a Tua guy. You asked me, this is many shows ago, who would I take? Would I take Tua, Tonga, Violoa, or Justin Herbert? And I picked Tua because his ability to play before the defense and get the ball out in timing and rhythm and his aggressiveness. But he's thrown 10 interceptions this year and he's thrown three interceptions and back to back games. And I, I do believe Tua himself has lost that locker room. We saw it last week when he came out and, and called out, you know, the leadership in the building. That wasn't just players, that was leadership holistically in the entire building. And once it starts to creep out like that, for a guy like Tua, who' always been very cognizant of what he says to the public, that to me means that it's going a lot worse than what we're even seeing. And now it's affecting his play to a level of like Coach Kaur said, they're disinterested. They, they don't want to play. Mike McDaniel does not look like he's having fun right on the sidelines. He's not skipping and jumping and wearing the cool glasses anymore. He's got like a hoodie on, like he's trying to hide from somebody. So I don't know what is particularly going on there, but I. They owe to 140, 141 million still. But sometimes you just got to reshuffle the deck and. And just start all over.
B
Talking to RG3, Fox football analyst. He was on the call for BYU in Utah. And you can check out his podcast out of pocket with RG3. He had these comments. And I know there's pressure when you're a quarterback of you got to be a leader.
A
Yeah.
B
Well, some lead by example, some lead by words. Some do a combination. It's almost like RG or that two of them was to be something he wasn't last week. I'm going to be a leader. I'm going to be honest. I'm going to say these things. I'm calling, you know, people. But then you go out and you throw three interceptions.
A
Correct.
B
And then you throw three interceptions again. Do you think he's trying to be somebody he's not, and that is this vocal guy? Because it feels like when he gets in front of a microphone, the microphone always wins. He doesn't. That's a good.
A
You know, I gotta pull on my own experience here because, you know, when you're losing, it is really difficult to be that vocal leader in front of that microphone and try to hold everybody in the organization accountable. I went through that. You know, you. You come off a loss and you say, hey, you know, it all starts with me. I've gotta be better and I've gotta do this. And then it's like, what you say next after that determines how the rest of your week and the rest of your season is going to go. And I made that mistake. So I understand where TUA is at, because I said that. And then I came back and I said, you know what the best this. Do this. And we got to do that. And we got it. And your teammates, it's like they're looking at you and they're watching it on tv. Their friends are texting them and their family's texting them what's going on. And they don't. They skip the first part.
B
Okay.
A
That you said on me. And I got. They go right to. Hey, man, he said, you ain't catching the ball. He said, y' all not getting open. And I know that feeling. So I always feel for the quarterbacks in those moments. Because you want to give. You want to. You want to motivate your guys.
B
No, but you want to be boring, rg, you got to be boring. In the press conference, in. In the locker room. You can be animated, excited. You can do all of that in front of us. Your job is to say something, but not really say anything.
A
And Dan, I learned that. I learned that I just didn't have the $141 million contract now. And I think a little bit of that comes with. When you get that payment. You feel a more of a responsibility to be the catalyst for that leadership. And I think that's where Tua is. He's learning on the job, you know, the mistakes that a lot of guys make early in their career, right in the middle of his career. So I think he needs to watch this episode of the Dan Patrick show and, like, be boring. It's okay to say, hey, it's on me. I got to go watch the tape. Be Jalen hurts. They asked Jalen hurts all the time. Hey, what differently this week that you didn't do last week? He's like, I don't know. I gotta go watch the tape. Boring. I'm telling you, it works every single time. And your teammates will love you for it because they're all under a microscope in this social media age. And I think two is learning that really quickly.
B
We're also learning quickly about. It doesn't feel like anybody has great stability as a coach. Certainly in college that, you know, things change quickly. You'll get SMU overnight, Arizona State overnight. Indiana is back again, Texas Tech, Vandy. And now you get these blue bloods where all of a sudden, you know, Penn State or Florida and Florida State and we'll move on from you. It just. Do you get that feeling of, I mean, it's. It's survival of the fittest for these coaches trying to hold onto these jobs?
A
Yeah, Dan, it is. And you know, you make a great point. And I said this three or four years ago. I said that nil and the transfer portal was going to level out college football. And what that means is it's going to be year to year the. The days of Alabama and Georgia and all these super teams being able to just run through people every single year and constantly be in the national title. RA is over because their depth is gone. Dan, if I'm. If I'm a quarterback and I know this guy is making, I don't know, four or five million dollars and I'm a freshman coming in, or I'm a guy in the portal, I'm not going to that school. In the past, I could go to that school and just beat him out because neither of us were making money and the best guy was going to play well, now you have situations like last year with DJ Uiyangalay at Florida State where they're paying him a bunch of money and everyone with eyes can see, hey, he's just not playing very well. But guess what? They have to play him because they're paying him so much money. So now you look at the way that everything is going, Dan, and these coaches are on a year to year deal where one year they're great, the next year they can be terrible because if you pay the wrong guys, you're out of luck. So I look at these blue bloods and I, and I get why they're struggling, but the boosters don't care. And when they're willing to pay 70, 80, 90 million for you not to coach somewhere that lets you know how different the landscape is. And Dan, I'm just trying to see if I can get one of these head coaching jobs and we can make this happen and I can bring you guys on board and they can just fire us not to work because this is crazy what's going on in college football, right?
B
You would not want to be a coach today. You would not want this. Or do you?
A
I think I would love to do it. First of all, I love coaching. You know, I've had opportunity to be in overtime and coach these, these young athletes and seven on seven. But to me it boils down to your head coach can no longer just be a great play caller. They can't just be a guy that, that went through the rounds and you know, he knows how to do this. You got to be a CEO. It's why Joy McGuire at Texas Tech is such a great head coach. He hires the right guys. She award the defensive coordinator and Mac left, which is offensive coordinator. These guys are innovative. They're young, they, they know how to call plays and put their guys in position to be successful. But like you look at Florida, for example, I've said this for years now. I think they should hire Tim Tebow. I think they should hire Tim Tebow. If Tim Tebow goes into any home in Florida. You're telling me that those parents aren't saying, yep, sign me up, I'm coming. You got to put a great staff.
B
Around them because you can't hire somebody that you can't fire.
A
Robert, they can fire Tim Tebow.
B
Yeah, I know, but that's, you don't want to do that. It's just like we've seen that, you know, Patrick Ewing at Georgetown, Chris Mullen at St. John's Clyde Drexler at Houston, you don't want to fire your guy.
A
Now, Dan, do any of those guys give speeches like Tim Tebow? Do any of those guys motivate like Tim Tebow motivates? I'm not saying Tebow would take the job. I'm great friends with Tim. I don't think he'd take the job. But if I'm Florida, I'm trying to do that because you need that level of exposure.
B
Have you asked him about the Florida job?
A
I have.
B
And what did he say?
A
His. His response is, you know, he's not chasing that. That's. He's not. He's not that. He's not interested at all. He's just not chasing that. And I understand it. You're the favored son. We saw that with Frost at Nebraska. You don't want to have to fire your guy. But I'm just talking about the overall thought process of teams in college football today. You got to give these young men a reason to want to go there, because they can go to seven different schools and still make it to the NFL. Before it was, you go to Bama, you're going to the league, you go to Georgia, you go into the league, and you're going to win a national championship. It's no longer that way.
B
But you got Andrew Luck, who I think is going to end up coaching Stanford. I mean, he's their general manager. It feels like, you know, as competitive as he is, he's like, I want to get closer to the game. I could see him coaching at Stanford.
A
Hey, Dan Danjer's doing it the smart way, right? Stanford's not a great team, and he's not putting those losses on his record.
B
He'll start coaching when they get better.
A
Then he's going to coach them when they're better. Hey, they had Bear Bachmeyer, the quarterback at byu.
B
Oh, I know.
A
So that.
B
That dude is. He's good. He. He's not afraid.
A
He is not afraid. He's not a freshman. 4.0 GPO, GPA at Stanford before he transferred out. Extremely smart young man. I've known him for a couple years now. Fearless. And he showed that in the Holy War. It was pretty impressive to watch.
B
And number 47.
A
Yeah, you know. You know what that number is? He played a running back and middle linebacker when he was young, and he. He said when he switched over to quarterback, he kept the number 47 because it reminded him of his primitive years. That is an interesting quarterback. That's a guy you want to play for.
B
Great to talk to you again. Thanks. For joining us.
A
Appreciate you, Dan.
B
That's Robert Griffin Jr. III. He was there for BYU, Utah and his podcast out of Pocket with R. Yeah, he and Jason were trying to capture what they were seeing in Provo. And that backdrop when the sun is setting is gorgeous. And that atmosphere, I remember when BYU played Miami when Ty Detmer was there, and that, that was a thing like, that was an atmosphere there. And Utah, byu, it's great. But byu, I think, has won the last three.
A
Yeah, pulling that backdrop sometimes looks like cgi.
B
Yes, it does.
A
There's some football stadiums like Appalachian State or Montana, where the background, you're like, that. That's.
B
That's not real. That's not real. All right, we'll take a break. We will provide you with our best and worst of the weekend. The great Paul Scheer made me feel good. I'm like, oh, wow, Angela and Jenna, I am so psyched you're here. What was that like for you to.
B
Soft launch into the show?
A
Sorry, Jenna, I'll be asking the questions today.

We dig deeper into these odd deaths, which include everything from mushroom poisoning and mysterious heart attacks to window clumsiness and suicide by decapitation. One thing we have found since we started back in 2022 is the information on the suspicious deaths has become much harder to find. Not just that, it seems as if state controlled media in Russia is being utilized to purposely confuse and contradict the reporting that gets put out. As you can probably imagine, season two gets very weird. Listen to Sad Oligarch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Internet is something we make, not just something that happens to us.

There are no Girls on the Internet.
A
Is not just about tech.
B
It's about culture and policy and art.
A
And expression and how we as humans exist and fit with one another. In our new season, I'm talking to people like Anil Dash, an OG entrepreneur and writer who refuses to be cynical about the Internet.
B
I love tech. I've been a nerd my whole life.
A
But it does have to be for something like it's not just for its own sake.
B
It's a fascinating exploration about the power.
A
Of the Internet for both good and bad. They use WhatsApp to get the price.
B
Of rice at the market that is often 12 hours away. They're not going to be like, we.
A
Don'T like the terms of service, therefore we're not trading rice. This season. It's an inspiring story that focuses on.
B
People as the core building blocks of.
A
The Internet platforms exist because of the.
B
Regular people on them, and I think.

That'S a real important story to keep repeating. I created There Are no Girls on the Internet because the future belongs to.

Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology Podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation, like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effort to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it. If it's going to be beneficial to you. Because it's easy to say like, like you go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walk the other way. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex problem solving, meditating, you know, takes effort.

We had a caller who said that maybe we should start referring to Joe Flacco as, oh, take off on Echo, our sponsor. And then Seaton said, well, why don't we come up with a Joe Flacco T shirt? And I didn't know he was going to come up with a T shirt this quickly, but all of a sudden up on the website, you can order a Joe Flacco T shirt. Flack around and find out. Disgruntled Browns fans can order this as well. Okay. Your Bengals fan, a disgruntled Browns fan. Flack around and find out. It'll be up on the website shortly.
A
I don't know if it's there quite.
B
Yet, but it's going up. Okay. It'll be up there.
A
I don't know, maybe this for this week or so.
B
Okay, we'll do it. Until who do the Bengals play next week?
A
Good news, Dan. They face the Jets.
B
Yes, they're about to fleck around and find out. Okay. All right. Maybe we could get a two, two week run out of this T shirt here. Well, in South Bend, we did see some pass hole T shirts. It's the best. Yeah, a couple of them were there. Yeah. Inspired by Todd.
A
That was fun. That was fun. We took some pictures. There was a damn three piece poster.
B
Yeah. Yeah, it was nice. Great crowd. I think next year they want to put us in front of Touchdown Jesus. That's what. Yeah, I think they realized that we were kind of a professional organization. We give the presentation of being professional because the big German did a wonderful job. Like, the setup was beautiful, the backdrop was great and the guests were great. It was, it was fun, fun atmosphere there. All right, how about we give our best and worst of the weekend? Todd, with your Broncos hat and your Knicks gear on, what do you have? I was going to go with Ohtani's Friday night game four, but I think it's obvious. Bo Nicks the Broncos going in the.
A
Fourth at Mile High.
B
Stunning comeback win over the Giants.
A
Worst Wisconsin football. What happened to the Badgers program?
B
They've lost five straight.
A
Oh, and four in the conference.
B
The last two games they've scored a.
A
Total of zero points, 34 nothing loss.
B
At home to the Buckeyes, 37 nothing loss to Iowa. Next opponent, the Oregon Ducks.
A
Good luck to Wisconsin.
B
Okay, bigger game, more important game. Denver coming back to win or Shohei Ohtani's game on Friday night.
A
Todd that's by far with the Broncos.
B
Do okay? Of course. Seaton Best and worst of the weekend. My best of the weekend, Ohio State.
A
Quarterback Julian saying went 36 for 42, 393 yards, four touchdowns.
B
Just a dominant performance up in Wisconsin. My worst of the weekend man, Cam Ward. I don't know if it's the dad.
A
In me now, but like, when I see like he just got to the.
B
NFL, all of his dreams are coming true and it's just a tough season for him. I just want to give the guy a hug and be like, hey, buddy, keep your head up, keep going, keep pushing forward.
A
You're going to figure it out.
B
By the way, I said this a couple of weeks ago and I firmly believe it. Ohio State might be better this year than last year, but it's quiet. We've been focusing on coaches that are in jeopardy on the hot seat, losing their jobs. Some surprise teams as well in Ohio State is just playing great, great football. Marvin Best and worst of the week.
A
My best of the weekend. Jeremiah Love, the running back from Notre Dame. 24 carries, 228 yards and a touchdown with a big win over USC and the kickoff and absolutely, he's, he was my early pick for the Heisman.
B
But anyway, it's tough for a running back. Tough for running back to, to win the Heisman, they have to do something.
A
They have to play defense.
B
Even if you get 2,000 yards, it feels like you, you have to do something. As you know, add on to that. What else do you have?
A
Worse of the weekend, Carson Beck from Miami, four interceptions and a close loss against Louisville. No good.
B
I think you took some heat that he threw some teammates under the bus, too, or it felt like he was maybe backing away from all the blame. Yeah. Paul.
A
He was asked what happened on a specific play.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
And he said, well, it was a miscommunication, but then he could have easily bailed there. He said the receiver ran the wrong route and that's what hurt him.
B
Yeah. Not good. Social media crushed him because they were like, yeah, he did this stuff at Georgia. Paulie. Best and worst of the week.
A
Best of the weekend. I'm going to go with the Notre Dame running back combination of Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price. They ran for 315, two touchdowns. Price added the 100 yard kickoff return, which was really necessary when USC was making that saucy. And the worst of the weekend. I'm going with Wisconsin football. I can't remember them in my lifetime being bad. I had to go back the last time they were under.500 last year. They're going to be well under.500 this year. The last time they were under.500 was 2001. They're always good.
B
Yeah.
A
Above average, good in that realm. And it's very weird to see they've always relied on that great running game and a decent defense. I don't know what's happening. I really don't understand it.
B
Yeah, they're usually penciled in for a 910 wins. And they do run the football. By the way, Curry College running back Monty Quinn rushed for 522 yards in one game. They beat Nichols, Rachel Nichols, 71 to 27. But Monty Quinn. 522. 522, 522. Oh, James in Virginia. Hey, James.
A
Thank you for taking my call, brother. Happy Monday. DT Dan. Salute the commanders, man. Big time. All the time, Every time. Although I think the commanders forgot it all the time on defense yesterday, man. That was definitely my worst, man. They got completely manhandled, man. And. And to boot, man, Jaden, Jaden 5, man, was not allowed live yesterday. He showed some promise but got hurt, man. And it's a. It's gonna be some tough sledding ahead if he's not under center, man. Because like I said before, yeah, they got a tough stretch coming up, but, man, the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott and that offense, and I don't know what it is about teams that can't play defense all of a sudden want to Play defense against Washington, man. But when you go to NFC championship, you're gonna get the best. But my best of the weekend for sure was shooting the Positive base video with my mother, man. She's 79 years old, been a Cowboys fan since the 1960s, and, man, it was a wonderful time going through that process with her. I hope you get an opportunity to show it, man. And then just one last thing. In college football, is Pavia a Heisman Trophy candidate? Man, I. I know Simpson is balling in Mendoza, Indiana as well, but, man, Pavia is taking a team that has never been good, and all of a sudden, man, they're in conversations of making a playoff birth, man. But, yeah, shout out to my mom again, Rachel, Man, I love you, mom, and thank you to my wife, Melanie. Y' all have a wonderful day, man. Salute the commander.
B
All right. James never feels like he has a bad day. There are days that aren't as good as his bad days. But, yeah, he's taking a pie to the face and probably sending that to Tyler. Gus in LA. Hi, Gus.
A
Good morning, Mr. Patrick.
B
Hope you and the boys had a great weekend.
A
Great trip back from South Bend. Speaking of South Bend, worse of my weekend, watching USC lose yet again to a ranked opponent. Not sure if we'll ever see a.
B
Winning record against the ranked teams under Lincoln Riley. I never thought I'd say that, but it's starting to look like that. Kind of getting a little worried. That's the worst, the best of the weekend. Out of all the greatness that was on this weekend, I cannot overstep Shohei Ohtani.
A
You know, we thought Last year the.
B
6 for 6 game was one of.
A
The greatest baseball performances ever, only to.
B
Be trumped by this.
A
It's funny, I told Tyler that Shohei.
B
Ohtani had disappeared through this playoffs. Yeah. Something very interesting happened this past week on Instagram.
A
The Dodgers posted a video on their.
B
Instagram of Shohei Otani taking batting practice. And he, believe it or not, he.
A
Hit one out of the stadium even.
B
Further than the one that he hit on Friday night.
A
If you look at that comment section.
B
It is filled with comments saying, who cares? Get on base, dude. Do, like, do this in a game.
A
Why aren't you doing this in a game?
B
It was frustration to the max.
A
Come Saturday morning, Johe Ohtani is the greatest, you know, chosen one in the history of this city.
B
Gus, thank you. Thanks for the phone call. But quietly not knowing anything. But it was masked by the Dodgers playing great. Certainly. Starting pitching, Ron Darling, former pitcher. He was on the Call for tbs. He will join us. Coming up. Top of the hour. He was there to witness Shohei Otani, Fritzi Seaton, Marv, Paulie, yours truly. We're back after this. How do you celebrate? Episode: Hour 2 – Robert Griffin III, Best and Worst of the Weekend
Hour 2 of The Dan Patrick Show dives deep into weekend highlights and lowlights across the NFL and college football. Host Dan Patrick and the Danettes engage in lively debate, take calls from passionate listeners, and welcome special guest Robert Griffin III (RG3), who reflects on coaching culture, quarterback struggles, and his recent experience covering the BYU–Utah rivalry. The show is packed with thoughtful analysis, football nostalgia, humorous moments, and timely conversations about player leadership and the changing landscape of college football.
[24:46]–[40:02]
Seton on Colts Uniforms:
“Those Colts uniforms are boringly sharp. They’re butt. They are good. Wow, those uniforms stank.” (10:24)
RG3 on Being a Vocal Leader:
“It is really difficult to be that vocal leader in front of that microphone...I made that mistake. So I understand where TUA is at.” (33:04)
Dan on Press Conference Strategy for QBs:
“You want to be boring, RG...In front of us, your job is to say something, but not really say anything.” (33:22)
Hour 2 balances in-depth football analysis, commentary on fandom and coaching, and fresh takes on current events—packaged with Dan Patrick’s trademark humor and authenticity. RG3’s interview adds genuine perspective on locker room culture, quarterback psychology, and the evolving realities of college football coaching. The episode closes with a reflection on the weekend’s best plays and moments of heartbreak, reminding sports fans that, as always, “losses are the great teacher, not winning.” (07:30)
