Or wherever you get your podcasts. You are listening to the Dan Patrick show on Fox Sports Radio, hour two on this Monday. Down a danet. Paulie's out today, but Dylan from the back room is stepped in and hopefully will step up. We have the back room being represented here. I don't know if it's well rep represented. Dylan, of course, coming off the tragic pickleball injury, but somehow has made it to Paulie's desk. Congratulations, Dylan.
Dylan
Thank you, Dan. A warrior.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Warrior. Warrior. Warrior. Not warrior. The back. Back row is intact. Todd is here. Seaton's here, Marv and yours truly. We'll get some more phone calls as we always do every Monday. Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. I take a little timeout from talking about the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons to give you a heads up on a documentary I'm watching on Netflix. And it has to do with the Ed Sullivan Show. If you're old enough to remember, the Ed Sullivan show famously debuted the Beatles and Elvis, but a lot of African American groups and really that's what the documentary is about of Ed Sullivan saying to the network, I want to have Nat King Cole on. I want to have these African American artists on. This is the 50s. And there was some pushback from the network, but he, he championed the black cause of making sure they got the opportunity to have this exposure. You know, it used to be getting on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson, like that's your break. But back in the 50s, it was about being on the Ed Sullivan show. And people remember the Ed Sullivan Show. When the Beatles came on, you couldn't really hear their music because the girls were screaming Elvis when he came on. But Ed Sullivan was really strident in making sure that African Americans were going to be represented on the Ed Sullivan show on cbs if you get an opportunity. And it's great to be able to see some of these black artists and you get to see the full performance on Ed Sullivan. Seaton came in this morning and said that he watched a documentary and it has to do with Tom Brady. Tom Brady bought into a soccer team in. In Birmingham. Is that right, Seaton?
John Hope Bryant
Yeah, yeah. Birmingham.
Dan Patrick
Okay. And the title of the documentary is Built in Birmingham.
John Hope Bryant
Brady and the Blues.
Dan Patrick
Okay. So they're known as the blues.
John Hope Bryant
They're the blues? Yeah. Yeah.
Dan Patrick
Are they good?
John Hope Bryant
They kind of. They. They don't have necessarily, like a storied history of being great, but they're kind of a classic team that goes up and down the leagues a lot. So they've been in the Premier League and then they get relegated to the championship and then jump back up and then sort of go down. They sort of. Not hybrid, but they bounce between the two leagues. A bunch of. They had been relegated again down, further into the third tier during this part and then during Tom Brady's tenure thus far. Okay, yeah.
Dan Patrick
Because I've watched Sunderland and Leeds.
John Hope Bryant
It's very similar vibe to that Wrexham. And really, I think probably one of the knocks is that they're just trying to do the same formula, but with Tom Brady.
Dan Patrick
Okay. You didn't have. You weren't gushing about how good it was.
John Hope Bryant
He. Well, the formula is undefeated.
Dan Patrick
Right.
John Hope Bryant
You come into a struggling soccer team and you try to rebuild it. That formula will always work, whether it's baseball, basketball, football, it doesn't really matter. But the way that I'm a little surprised at. I didn't have a very good impression of Tom Brady watching him through the. So far I've only seen two episodes, to be fair, but that's about two hours worth of the documentary. And he really has a lot of moments that are like, why is he doing that? You know, like, there's this one moment where he bought. Brings his, like, a friend in, I think it was. And they're pulling up to, like, the training facility, and his friend is like, really dogging on the team. Like, this is the piece of S team that you bought. This place sucks. Like, the stuff. I'm like, why are they airing that on this documentary? There's another part where Tom Brady, like, in. In these. In these. Whenever a new owner takes ownership over a team, somebody buys a team. A lot of times they go and meet with the supporter group and like the. The fan base and like, hey, so this is what we're thinking and this is how we're going to do it. And it's really casual. It's like a nice event that they'll do it like a pub or something like that. And it's just like, hey, look, we're just like you. But I know you're worried about your team because, you know, teams, there are focal points of the community, you know. And he, like, right from the beginning, he's pulling up in this gigantic Mercedes wagon, you know, and he's like, how long do I have to do this. And they're like 15 minutes top. She'll be in and out, maybe grab a pint with them, but that's about it. And he's already talking about people like them, like, how long do I have to be with them? And you're like, dude, just. And he gets out, like, he's just stepped out of, like, an Armani shoot or something because he's got this long trench coat on, these crazy blue glasses, and like, I don't know this. The vibes of it are very strange for me. And I'm not really sure why Tom. What he's trying to portray with this.
Dan Patrick
Okay. But let's look at his character arc here. Let me be fair. How many episodes is it going to be?
John Hope Bryant
I think it's five.
Dan Patrick
Okay, so two down, three to go. And Brady comes off as a Hollywood type and elitist. I'm Tom Brady. You're not. I don't even know if the people in Birmingham know about Tom Brady or what they know about Tom Brady.
John Hope Bryant
No idea.
Dan Patrick
They don't know that his football greatness. Well, it doesn't translate to anything. Soccer, it.
John Hope Bryant
Well, I. Oh, yeah. I mean, they might know that. Okay, so he was really great, but if somebody came in, like, the world's greatest cricket player came in and bought the Patriots, you'd be like, I don't even know anything about this dude. He played cricket. You know, it's a little maybe similar to that. Like, oh, okay. I guess he's obviously very successful because he's really rich. But what does that mean for our team?
Dan Patrick
Does he know anything about soccer?
John Hope Bryant
No, it actually, right in the very beginning, he, like, they are like, all right, so we bought this team, right? And we're going to do it. And he's going up there to, like, go there to the first thing, and he's sitting in the back and he's like, so is there another team in Birmingham? And the guy sitting with him was like, yeah, Aston Villa. And they're like, oh, are they good? And yeah. Oh, are they in the Premier League? Yeah.
Dan Patrick
And he's like, oh, well, F them.
John Hope Bryant
We're going to beat them, too. And it's like, dude, how do you. How did you buy this team and not even know what the other teams were in the town?
Dan Patrick
It'd be like, if you bought the Mets. And Steve Co. Owen didn't understand that the Yankees were in Major League Baseball.
John Hope Bryant
So any other baseball teams in New York?
Dan Patrick
Yeah, the Yankees.
John Hope Bryant
Yeah, dude, the Yankees. What the hell's wrong with you? He just really Came across in a weird way, like, intensely dismissive while wanting to win. Like, there's this air about it, like, well, like, but I'm Tom Brady, so everything's going to be great because all I do is win. And you're like, yeah, but you don't know what you're doing.
Dan Patrick
It feels like Brady, because he's Tom Brady. We're going to win.
John Hope Bryant
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
As opposed to. He became Tom Brady because he was the underdog and he worked really, really hard. And maybe not applying what made him Tom Brady to who Tom Brady is right now.
John Hope Bryant
They go in there, right? They bought this thing. Tom standing there in front of, like, the team, it's a little awkward because they have no idea who he is. And he's like, hey, guys, I've sat in these chairs, too. I've been in a lot of these meetings.
Dan Patrick
Paint the picture. What's Brady got on?
John Hope Bryant
He's wearing, like, very tight white jeans.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
John Hope Bryant
A trench coat that probably costs $10,000. These, like. Like, the hair is immaculate. Everything at least tan. And, like, what? And he's like, yeah, guys, you know, because all I do is win. That's what I do, is I win. And, you know, because this, where you're winning, takes dedication, and he's doing all the Tom Brady stuff. And then, like, the first thing they do is fire everybody. The team was already playing well. They were in, like, sixth place. They're, like, moving up. They fire everybody and immediately go to the last place and get relegated. Like, oh, my God, dude, what did you just do? It's crazy. It is. It's pretty crazy.
Dan Patrick
But how does he look?
John Hope Bryant
He looks like the modern Tom Brady.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
John Hope Bryant
Very much so. His. His real estate game is off the charts.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
John Hope Bryant
So the sets were always really nice.
Dan Patrick
But why would you. Unless somebody got. It's just like, I go back to when Tom Brady did the Tom Brady roast, and then I was like, why would you do this? You know, maybe they paid you 5 million, $10 million. Like, why would you do that? And then you're surprised that they're taking dead aim at your wife or ex wife. And it was like, hey, you know, hands off. Like, don't do that. And I'm going, why? Why did you sign up to do this in the first place? Yes.
John Hope Bryant
And they, like, he. You know, it reminded me a little bit of when his, like, TV career first started. And it was like, I don't know if he's taking this as seriously as he needs to, because I'm Tom Brady. I know football of Course this is going to be easy. And TV is different than just getting on there and knowing football. You have to know how to do it on tv, you know, and that's. That's difficult to do. It felt very much a similar vibe to me of like, yeah, but I'm Tom Brady and I win. So, like, this soccer thing is going to be easy. Don't worry about it. And, and it's not. It's. It's really not.
Dan Patrick
But that's why I'm wondering about the career arc or the, the character's arc with this. With. Because people in Birmingham, they just care about their soccer club. They don't care who's running their soccer club. It. You know, as long as that person can make the product better, we want to win. I don't care that you won Super Bowls or you look like, you know, a million bucks here. We're a working class community here. We're not even the best team in our own town. And you're coming in and all of a sudden you got all the answers.
John Hope Bryant
And they're very upfront, too, especially Tom's business partner who's like, look, I'm just going to be real with you guys, okay? We're coming in here, we're pumping in a bunch of money into this thing, making it a winner and selling it for as much money as possible. And he'll.
Dan Patrick
O God.
John Hope Bryant
That's not what we want to hear. That's not what we want to hear at all. That's what we've had. We've had decades of that. You know, it's tough, the. This. There has to be something about the, like, story arc of his character that you're talking about, because I just don't understand why you would do that.
Dan Patrick
You don't come across as somebody who cares.
John Hope Bryant
Right.
Dan Patrick
That cares locally, cares passionately. If you, if you're going to a meet and greet and you say, how long do I have to be with them? That's not a good sign. Ted Lasso is going to stay a little bit longer than 15 minutes and have more than one pint. But if you're saying this on camera that it can't. It can't go over well. Yes. Dylan.
Dylan
I was gonna say he's kind of doing like an alternate universe Ted Lasso thing where it sounds like he's just being kind of rude and no one's really listening now.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. Hey, you know what? We. That Ted Lasso things played out. Nobody likes the nice guy. I'm gonna go in there and I'm gonna be tough and fire people and I don't know anything about soccer, but I win, damn it.
Dylan
I'm a football guy.
Dan Patrick
I win. Look at me, I win.
John Hope Bryant
He's not. He's not necessarily being mean or anything like that. It's more just like dismissive, out of touch because. Yeah, yeah, a little out of touch dismissive because, like, I'm Tom Brady, I'm great. Trust me, I got this. And you're like, there's this moment where they have David Beckham coming to a game, and it's the game versus Wrexham. So it's like star studded and like, ah, battle of the American owners, right? And they do this whole thing and Tom's like, we need to get Beckham some swag or whatever. And so they call the team office Birmingham. They're merchandise people and they're like, hey, Tom wants to get David, like, a jersey or something. And the people say, well, we really shouldn't put Beckham's name on a jersey because it's kind of like a faux pas. Like, he doesn't have anything to do with this team. So you wouldn't put his name on a jersey. That would be seen as bad times. Like, that's bleeping stupid. Just get him a hoodie or something. Like, who cares? Like, it's just the right thing to do, whatever. And he was just like, really dismissive over the. Well, you kind of like, if you're looking for respect and you're looking for credibility, this isn't something you would do because he's David Beckham. He's got nothing to do with our club. That's just stupid. Like, wow, man, that I get the.
Dan Patrick
Jersey part of that. Yeah, but get him a hoodie.
John Hope Bryant
Yeah, get him a hoodie.
Dan Patrick
Right? That's all right. And the TV part of that, you kind of show up and having worked at ESPN for such a long period of time, the number of former coaches or players who came in and just thought, hey, I played, I coached, I won super bowl. And I would let them know as I let Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison know. That doesn't matter. From the standpoint of learning tv, you know more TV or football than I do, but I know more TV than you. And there's a big difference in that. You have to understand how to do it. That's when. Once you do that, then you can apply your knowledge to it. But Tom didn't know how to do tv. He knew how to be Tom Brady and talk football. And people are going to wait for Every word you say until they realize maybe it's not as interesting as we thought it was going to be. But this project, I was really surprised you sign up for this and then you allow people to kind of. Sometimes the mystery is better. It's like Michael Jordan. Sometimes the mystery is better. Tiger Woods. Sometimes the mystery is better. Tom Brady. Sometimes the mystery is better. You don't need to know everything because then you're like, damn.
John Hope Bryant
Yeah, he's still great. He's still. He clearly wants to win. There's no doubt about that. He clearly wants to win. But there seems to be almost like a lack of respect towards the people who do it. And you're like, nah, you just, just do it like this. Just trust me. Yeah, because that's what we do. We win. That's why I know in my gut that this is the way it's done. And it's like, but that just got you into last place.
Dan Patrick
But he also fired Wayne Rooney.
John Hope Bryant
Well, he brought in Wayne Rooney, which was the first problem, and then fired Wayne Rooney, which is this.
Dan Patrick
He complained about Wayne Rooney's work ethic.
John Hope Bryant
Yeah, that, that got a lot of rounds on social media.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. So you're gonna, you're gonna fire. Is he the most famous English football player?
John Hope Bryant
He's certainly one of the best.
Dan Patrick
Yeah.
John Hope Bryant
Of all time. Yeah. By the way, he might not have been wrong. He might not have been wrong at all. However, it was just a little awkward to be like, I don't know how I feel about Wayne. Okay, hold on.
Dan Patrick
Yes, Dylan.
Dylan
I didn't really have anything then, but.
Dan Patrick
You look like you were poised.
Dylan
It seems like for Tom, like the, he just walks into these like side quest things and he's like, this will be easy compared to what I've done. And then it doesn't actually work out that way.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. I mean, he's, he's wired to play football, to understand football, and then you go into something else. And it'd be like if I went from doing radio and TV and then I went into directing a film, I would have no idea what I'm doing. Now. I've been in films. That doesn't mean I know what I'm doing, but it just feels like, hey, I'm a winner over here and I can do that. You just lead people, that's all. Well, you have to have a leader there. You have to have talent there, but you also have to buy into what the local. I mean, this is what they bleed. They bleed blue. Yeah.
John Hope Bryant
See, I did like this one part though. Tom was talking, and he was just like, look, it might fail. And, like, that's totally okay. It's totally okay if this doesn't work out. But, like, I tried, and I definitely did my best. I might do the wrong thing, but I'm definitely trying my best. I'm giving this everything I have. I'm trying as hard as I can to build a winner even if I get it wrong. I don't feel bad about that.
Dan Patrick
I'm just surprised at the lack of prepper preparation by him. That when you go to Birmingham, you. That's where you do a deep dive on the people there. And you. You know that there's another soccer team in town. Like, you know, all of these. You go in with the working knowledge of the working man. Yes.
John Hope Bryant
Right. You can't go in there and, you know, like, not know anything about the community, not know anything about, you know, the other teams or really even the history of your team and be like, hey, we all bleed blue, right? We're one family, huh? Huh? We're all family, right? It feels. It's very, like, corporate speak. Like, this is what we say when we're the owners now. This is what owners say to get everybody on their side, huh?
Dan Patrick
We all bleed blue, right? Is there a certain amount of money that you make or a certain amount of fame where maybe you lose touch with reality?
John Hope Bryant
Well, you know, I once read. I forget. I wish I could remember where, because I just thought it was so smart. But the person was saying, basically, once you hit about $300 million and above, you've lost all contact with reality. Life no longer. It's not. You're not living in the real world. You're living in an insanely wealthy world where things. You shape your own world now and create that, and then you live within that bubble, and that reality just does not exist anymore because you just have the resources to get anything you want and shape it any way you want.
Dan Patrick
And then there was the part of the. Scotty Scheffler was talking about how family comes first over golf, and then Tom. I don't know if Tom thought that Scotty Scheffler was talking about Tom, but Tom then said, why does it have to be mutual? You know, can it be mutually exclusive that you care about your family, but you care about your sport? And I'm thinking Tom is not the right guy to talk about this to Scotty Scheffler, Tony Finau, who has, like, five kids and. And balances that with being on tour. But, you know, Tom had a son with his girlfriend who was pregnant and he left her with Giselle and then gave up, basically Giselle to continue to play football. She gave him an ultimatum. But I don't think Tom should be talking to Scotty Scheffler about, you know, family and, you know, your passion, your sport.
John Hope Bryant
Trust me, because this is the way it's done. Okay? Because I know.
Dan Patrick
All right. Let me take a break. We will check in with the Dallas Cowboys coming up. And how serious is this? Todd Archer from the Mothership will join us. He covers the Cowboys. And coming up next hour, Brett Musburger and Sterling Sharp, just elected to the Pro Football hall of Fame, will join us as well. It's best and worst of the weekend Monday. We'll get phone calls as well. Back after this, be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show, weekdays at 9am Eastern, 6am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
John Hope Bryant
Hey, we're Covino and Rich, Fox Sports radio every day, 5 to 7pm Eastern.

Check out behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club.
Todd Archer
We go behind the scenes and explore.
Dan Patrick
The stories of those involved.
John Hope Bryant
San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chile. Pouring rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down, I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life.

The official trading cards of the program. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, that's our streaming partner or listening on our radio affiliates. Over 400 cities that carry the program. Spend a lot of time, maybe too much time in the first hour talking about the Cowboys, but can you ever really talk too much about the Cowboys? Todd Archer does that for a living. He gets to cover the Cowboys. He's been doing that since 2003. NFL reporter since 1997. Good to have you back on the show, Todd. Why is this different with Micah Parsons than maybe other holdouts Contract situations.
Todd Archer
In the time I've been covering this team, I don't remember a player ever making a trade request in. And I asked people who've been around longer than me if they remember one even early in Jerry's time or even going back to Landry, and no one could really think of one. So that's what makes this different. Not in Jerry's mind, obviously, because he says to the Cowboys fans, don't lose, lose any sleep over it. And is this just all part of the negotiation? I don't know if Mike is losing any sleep over it, but you could see on his face as he was watching practice, really not engaged at all for the first time that he's pretty frustrated and discouraged by this thing.
Dan Patrick
But Jerry is going to sign him, right?
Todd Archer
I mean, tell me, tell me the last time a Cowboy star player has not signed that Jerry has not kept. It took Emmett missing two games and the Cowboys going 02 and 93 for, for that deal to get done. We know the DAC deals have taken time here. The last couple negotiations that Dak has had. We saw CD Lamb's negotiation take through the almost the end of August last year. But again, none of those guys said I don't want to be hitter anymore. None of those guys claimed talked about the repeated shots that they feel the organization is taking against them. That's what makes this different. And that's what makes it different in my mind from even Myles Garrett's trade request from Cleveland back in February.
Paul
It was.
Todd Archer
It never said anything about the organization itself other than I want to win a Super bowl. Thirty something. Days later, he resigned with the Browns.
Dan Patrick
But I'm just trying to understand the logic of this, the business side of this. And I'm sure you guys have had the opportunity to ask Jerry tell us how it makes sense waiting longer than signing. He could have signed Micah Parsons up in February when Miles Garrett signed his deal or prior to tj. I mean, he could have saved a lot of money here. He could have done that with Dak. I don't. Maybe CD as well, but you know, here we are again with Micah. But I, I just don't understand the business philosophy with that.
Todd Archer
So there's a couple of elements to that one, and I think one that we often forget in the media is that the player waits too. Dak knew by waiting on both of his recent contract negotiations that he would make more. He didn't. You know, you go back to the first contract that he signed. They offered him what Jared Goff and, and gosh I forget the other quarterback in Philadelphia that with Carson Wentz. And he passed on it knowing that something better down the road was going to come. And it did. And he and he waited on this one. And CD Lamb was not going to sign a contract until Justin Jefferson's deal got done. Now, did it take that late the lag time to get that deal done with CD No. And should it be this hard to get something done with Mike? And no. But Jerry does not view this as a way of, oh, I just took away $2 million in cap space on this year. So no, I can't get this player. He just doesn't. We, we can throw the numbers and the math at him and but he can, he always believes that if I want to get a guy, however good he is, I can create the cap space on any of these deals and go get a guy. But again, the Cowboys don't view free agency the way some teams do where they go sign big name guys. So he just does not think it's that big of a deal.
Dan Patrick
Talking to Todd Archer, ESPN NFL Nation reporter, he's been covering the Cowboys since 2003. The bigger picture question is how good is this team in a division where you're the third best team right now in your own division?
Todd Archer
I think they'll be better than people think. You have a rookie head coach, so there'll be some growing pains there with Brian Schottenheimer. But when Dak has been healthy and played a full season, the Cowboys have been a playoff team and or a playoff contender. Granted, they've not gone to an NFC title game, not going to super bowl, all that stuff. But when Dak has been healthy, they've played well. Now Mike, if he misses games, all that stuff, everything changes a little bit. But there's also an element if is Micah not going to play? Is he not going to earn $21 million this year? Like so eventually he will have to get on the field. And I would also point out that in the Cowboys mind, they've gone through this. They had a franchise. Dak Prescott, he played out his contract. They had a franchise to Marcus Lawrence, he played out his contract. And that's what Jerry was essentially saying to us on Saturday was he has under contract. We've seen guys play their last years before and he believes if they don't get a deal, that's what will happen again. And the Cowboys can use the franchise tag on, on Micah in 2026, 2027 and even 2028. If they don't get a Deal. If they want to go that route. Does Jerry can talk about this again? Dan, It'd be great.
Dan Patrick
Just how important is winning to Jerry?
Todd Archer
That's a great question. And he'll always say it's at the top of the mind. It's been, this is the 30th year without a Super Bowl. We'll see what happens this year. But I think there are people that will say the Cowboys enjoy the limelight, enjoy the cash, enjoy being the. The most notorious team in the league, maybe more than winning. And that plays into Jerry's mindset sometimes. I think he wants to win. I don't think there's a question of that. I think he wants to win his way.
Dan Patrick
They should do a 30 for 30 this year as the 30th anniversary of the Cowboys and look back on these 30 years or the previous 29 years of what went right, what went wrong, all the different movements and coaches and I don't even know if Brian Schottenheimer can be a head coach. I mean, you're also putting a rookie coach in this situation. And there's a lot of things that would just feels like we're not even looking at the bigger picture of the Cowboys when they get on the football field. It's all this ancillary stuff, right?
Todd Archer
And that's the issue, right, that the focus is away from the field, away from football, that football isn't always the most important thing when it should be. I asked Brian Schottenheimer if he ever feels caught in the middle during these situations, and he said no. I'm a guy who can see both sides, see all the angles, and I'll communicate to Jerry and Steven and I'll communicate to Micah and the players. And so far, he's. He's handled it well. He's obviously the son of a longtime head coach, has seen a lot of things in his time as an assistant coach, seeing a lot of things when he was growing up. There's nothing like the Cowboys, though.
Dan Patrick
Have fun, Todd.
Todd Archer
I'll try. Thanks.
Dan Patrick
Todd Archer ESPN NFL Nation reporter Govern the Cowboys since 2003. Yeah. The bigger picture is, are they any good? Dylan, who's in for Paul today? I told you to check. DraftKings odds of what are the odds of the Cowboys winning a playoff game?
Dylan
So they don't have that specifically, but they have some similar ones. So to miss the playoffs, their mind's 220.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Dylan
Not a lot of hope there. To lose in the wild card round. Plus 400. That's a pretty good Bet if they do make the playoffs, okay, historically speaking, to losing the divisional round plus 800 to lose in the conference championship game plus 2000. And then if you really want to waste some money, to lose in the Super bowl plus 4,500 and to win the Super bowl plus, plus 5,000.
Dan Patrick
All right, Tom in North Carolina. Hi, Tom. What's on your mind today?
Paul
Hey, D.P. i was listening to that sound bite from Jerry Jones's comments about Micah Parsons and he did say, you know, when you're guaranteeing around 200 million. So I mean if you're doing the math, it's, you know, that's a little bit less. It's a five year extension, but it's a little bit less than TJ Watt. So I'm wondering, do you think Micah's deal is going to be all guaranteed money, around 200 million?
Dan Patrick
I don't know, but it feels like if I'm Micah Parsons agent, that's what I want. Miles Garrett got 4 years 160. Max Crosby 3 years 106.5. TJ Watt 3 years 123. Parsons set to make 21.3 million on the fifth year option here. I mean you could always, you know, continue to push this a little bit and see if Dak is willing to give up $21 million. Everybody who thinks about, hey, he should sit out. They should all go back to Leon Bell, hey, you sit out from the Steelers. How did that go? Yes, the jets were dumb enough to give you some money, but you don't make up that money. And it was, I don't know, might have been $15 million. But Micah Parsons isn't going to lose $21 million. And Jerry knows if they're going to make the playoffs, if, if they're going to have any hope this year, you got to have Micah Parsons in there. Yeah.
Dylan
Dylan demanding a trade seems like a much better strategy than holding out for the like same end result ultimately, but without any real downside.
Dan Patrick
Well, he's holding in and he doesn't, he doesn't want to leave the Cowboys now. I don't believe that for a second. Once again, this is part of negotiations. It feels like now Terry McLaurin. I don't know how that plays out and that's a really big deal as well. It's just not going to get the attention because he plays for the Commanders. Dylan in Maine. Hi, Dylan. What's on your mind today?
Paul
Hey, D.P. i'm just want to tell you about a great golf course in Maine. I know you have a home here. It's the Tanis Golf Course in Basselboro. It's 36 holes. It's a great course. But I wanted to talk about, like, Steven Jones. Seems like he doesn't get any of the blame at all. And he's not really a young guy and he needs to step up to his dad and be like, you need to like, stop Jerry.
Dan Patrick
I don't know if that's going to happen. Stephen doesn't get any credit or any blame because it doesn't feel like he's really involved in the decision making. I'm assuming he is, but. But Jerry takes the air out of the room. This is about Jerry Jones. He didn't want to share anything. Poppy in Rochester. Hi, Poppy. What's on your mind?
Paul
I did. First time. A long time. I disagree with everything. You guys criticized Tom Brady, not as Tom Brady, but his involvement in soccer.
Dan Patrick
Okay.
Paul
The European champions, PHG from Friends are owned by oil people. Liverpool, one of the greatest things in the world is owned by the Red Sox people. The Manchester United is owned by the Tampa Bay people. It is how much you know, Chelsea is owned by the LA Dodgers people. I was at the club World cup final at Giants Stadium. 81,000, you know. But what I disagree. What your comments made, you guys said was that how much Tom Brady knows about soccer, it's not how much you know, it's the money that talks. He has the money, puts up buys at the club. He'll put the best people that know the business and they're going to have a successful operation.
Dan Patrick
Well, he doesn't have the money anywhere near the money of these other people you're talking about. And I don't know if, you know, the Glazer family allowed people to follow them and they go, we don't know anything about soccer. But once that, once we build up this team, we're going to sell. Like, his PR approach to this is what we're. We're commenting on. So thank you for the phone call.
John Hope Bryant
Yes, I think Poppy said it in there because I think everything that he says is right. He said, you put the best people in place to make the decisions. Well, the way that this is being presented is that we're making the decisions. We're the guys that know how to win. Tom is the guy who's gonna, we need a new coach because this coach isn't the right one. How the hell does he know that? They're trying to run over tactics with him at one point and like, you know, it's Very clear. Like, oh, so this guy needs to stand over here. Okay, got it. Like, it just doesn't. It's really not translating. He's really not connecting with the material at all. I think that it's. The more about. It has nothing to do with money. It's more about the way it's being presented as this hands on approach to their ownership. That seems wrong.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. And if you look at Wrexham, you know, Rob and Ryan, they never said they knew soccer.
John Hope Bryant
There's actually a moment in the. In one of the episodes when it's the Wrexham Birmingham game where they're all talking about their experiences. Like, yeah, so we own Wrexham. Yeah, we own Birmingham. And they're like, oh, yeah, we're down in the locker room all the time. And like, Rob is like, really? Oh, no, no, we don't do that. No. Like, well, we'll be in there and be like, hey, guys. All right, what's up? Like, do what you do. We're going to go watch. But we're very hands off because we don't know anything about the.
Dan Patrick
And that should be the approach of Tom is. Is be one of the silent owners in there. But you can be there for your team and your community. But if you don't know soccer, then you hire people who do know soccer. Yes, Marvin, that's the funny thing.
Todd Archer
You say the same thing about NFL owners.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. It's the guy who gets too involved where we go, will you just be an owner? Just. Just be an owner. It's when they go, you know, I'm gonna make this draft pick. Wait, what? No, no, we don't want Johnny Manziel. Yes, we do. No, no, we don't. No. Okay.
Paul
All right.
Dan Patrick
We won't take it. Yes.
Dylan
Dylan, there's an episode, you know that show the studio.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, that.
Dylan
Where like, Seth Rogen, the studio head, goes to the set and just like, derail everything. That's just the same version of this.
Dan Patrick
Yeah. He's in the wrong place at the wrong time. And, you know, that's where you go, I'm gonna go out there on the movie set. And then you go out there and you're like, what are you doing here? You have no idea what you're doing, do you? No. Take a break. We will give you our best and worst of the weekend. After this, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chief the Pouring Rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down, I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life.

Todd, I'll start with you. Best of the Weekend. Some questionable pitching in two games Friday night. But exciting home team comebacks which were Marlin scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Yankees 13 12. And after trailing nine nothing in the first, the Rockies came back against the Pirates 1716 with five runs in the bottom of ninth in that game. Some nice pitching. Worst of the weekend. Also on Friday, another incident of a sex toy being thrown onto the court during a WNBA game in the past week, this time a contest between Golden State and Chicago. Can we all grow up a little bit, people? Thank you, Todd. All right, Seaton. Best and worst of the weekend.
John Hope Bryant
My best of the weekend, I went up to a soccer game in Burlington, Vermont against Vermont Green. It was Vermont Green versus Ballard FC from Seattle, Washington. It's USL League two, which is like really a college summer league. Atmosphere was absolutely insane. There was probably like 3,000 people in the stands maybe and then another 2,000 around the fence just watching for this final. Vermont Green ends up winning in stoppage time. This guy, Maxi Kissel gets the game winning goal. The crazy thing about Maxi Kissel for Vermont Green, game winning goal. He also got the game winning goal about nine months earlier for Vermont UVM to win the national championship. So he got two game winning goals for two national titles all within a about nine months. Absolutely. Spectacular environment, great place, great fan base. My worst of the weekend was actually being slightly disappointed in Tom Brady.
Dan Patrick
It is.
John Hope Bryant
It kind of ruined my night where I was just like, oh, no, there's not. Three more episodes of Tom being like, this is it. I hope that story arc works out.
Dan Patrick
So this is Tom, the soccer owner? Yeah. In Birmingham.
John Hope Bryant
Yeah.
Dan Patrick
The Blues. Marvin.
Todd Archer
My best of the weekend. Our team, the Milwaukee brewers, racked up 65th. 65th, 56 hits in three games against the Washington Nationals during their sweep.
Dan Patrick
Worst of the weekend, the Las Vegas Aces. They lost to the Minnesota leaks by 53 points. That's not good. No, stop. That's not good. Dylan. Best and worst.
Dylan
All right, Dan. My best, Cameron Young gets his first PGA Tour win after seven runner up finishes. He won by six strokes at the Wyndham Championship. And worst, which is kind of a best. I didn't really do any real damage to my ankle, but I kind of look like a coward now.
Dan Patrick
Oh, you were playing this. We had to get a wheelchair and I don't know if I could make it. I gotta cook on Friday. Meet Friday. So I'm checking in with Dylan over the weekend because I thought, all right, being a, you know, responsible boss, I should at least find out if he needs surgery. Did something break? Is a brain a bad sprain? Do I need to outfit the place? You know, for the handicap?
Dylan
Be nice.
Dan Patrick
Actually. Yeah. But we have footage of your watching on Peacock. You can see that was the tragic pickleball accident with Dylan. Turns out really nothing that serious with you.
Dylan
The ligament strain, maybe a mild sprain.
John Hope Bryant
It is. It is tough too. Like I said to Dylan, like, dude, you should have come in wearing a brace or something today because there's no swelling, no bruise. Just your word.
Dan Patrick
Trust me, it hurts.
John Hope Bryant
Trust me, it really hurts.
Dan Patrick
You were secretly hoping that maybe you had like, you know, a light, a slight tear. Yeah, yeah. Something that would be like, okay, that was worth all the drama on Friday.
John Hope Bryant
They didn't say fracture.
Dylan
They just said hairline.
Dan Patrick
Hairline. Yes.
John Hope Bryant
Well.
Dylan
Well, see, I. I'm actually. I like. It would make me seem worse that I got that hurt playing like a very casual game of pickleball. So I don't think I would fake a bad injury from that. But I mean, or maybe I just bounce back really quick. Then I'm like elastic man.
Dan Patrick
Speaking of somebody who likes to inflate their injuries, hey, Todd, it wasn't like plantar fasciitis where you can't put any pressure at all down in your heel where you're just literally for weeks.
Dylan
We're supposed to be on the same side here.
Dan Patrick
Just playing Paul in Iowa. Hi, Paul. What's on your mind today?
Paul
Hey, Dan. Live two bests of the weekend. But first you should ask Dylan if a pickleball injury comes with an AARP card. But my two best are over the. Over the weekend I was down in Branson and got to play Gary players 13 hole walking course, mountaintop golf course on the bluff, great views of the lake. Everything else, if you're down in Branson, go to Big Cedar. It's awesome. Other best was I watched Unreal on Netflix. Very interesting look. Behind the scenes of wwe, you get to learn a lot about John Cena's heel turn decision and what went into that and how long it took to get there. Really interesting. And Triple H is moving the company in a good direction.
Dan Patrick
All right, thank you, Paul. John in Cincinnati. Hi, John.
Paul
Well, hey, dp. Sorry I called him before and I guess my phone had about the same luck as the Speedway Classic, which is my best and worst best being that I was down there with my 74 year old dad and my 16 year old son. It was great. The worst was the event itself, especially on Saturday. I don't know if you guys followed on Twitter or not. But the crowds were there was not enough room for the people. They ran out of food, they ran out of merchandise. The merchandise line was two hours long. The signs to get in and out were terrible. They got about 15 minutes of baseball in. Which begs me the question, did they if they didn't start that game on Saturday, would their attendance record have counted? Because it certainly felt like they got that first pitch in at about 10 o' clock just so they could say they got the record because the game on Sunday did not have nearly as many people in attendance. They had allow you to bring food in on Sunday because they were out Saturday night. So it really felt like the the fans in attendance were the were the least considered by MLB and that whole event.
Dan Patrick
Yeah, I haven't read up enough on that, but it did feel like one way or another we're going to start this game. Yes. Todd. Yeah, they heard there were really long lines for concessions, like an hour and a half to get through. They ran out of cheese for the nachos, ran out of hot dogs. It was just a total disaster. Thank you Todd. Welcome. Coming up, we'll talk to Brent Musburger and Sterling Sharp, fresh off being inducted into the Pro Football hall of Fame. Two hours in the books on this Monday. Summary of "The Dan Patrick Show" Episode: Hour 2 - Todd Archer
Release Date: August 4, 2025
Host: Dan Patrick
Guest: Todd Archer (ESPN NFL Nation Reporter)
In this episode of The Dan Patrick Show, host Dan Patrick delves deep into the intricate dynamics of Tom Brady's venture into soccer ownership, specifically focusing on his involvement with San Diego Football Club (San Diego FC) in Birmingham. Joining him is Todd Archer, a seasoned ESPN NFL Nation reporter with over two decades of experience covering the Dallas Cowboys since 2003. The conversation intertwines sports management, ownership philosophies, and community engagement within professional sports teams.
Dan opens the discussion by critiquing the portrayal of Tom Brady in the documentary titled "Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues". He questions Brady's understanding and commitment to soccer, drawing parallels to other high-profile athletes venturing into unfamiliar sports realms.
Quote:
"Let me just say this AI is moving faster than civil rights legislation ever did."
— Dan Patrick [00:06:45]
John Hope Bryant, another guest, echoes these sentiments, highlighting Brady's superficial engagement with the team and the sport. Both Dan and John express skepticism about Brady's readiness and knowledge of soccer, emphasizing that success in one sport doesn't automatically translate to another.
Notable Points:
Quote:
"When you go into something else. You have to have a leader there. You have to have talent there, but you also have to buy into what the local. I mean, this is what they bleed. They bleed blue."
— Dan Patrick [00:18:49]
The conversation touches on the immediate negative repercussions of Brady's management decisions, such as the firing of Wayne Rooney despite Rooney's stellar reputation in English football. This move has sparked social media backlash and raised questions about the effectiveness of Brady's leadership.
Quote:
"He just really came across in a weird way, like, intensely dismissive while wanting to win."
— John Hope Bryant [00:17:18]
Dan and John compare Brady's approach with other athlete-turned-owners who have successfully managed sports teams by entrusting operations to knowledgeable professionals.
Quote:
"In the approach of Rob and Ryan with Wrexham, they never said they knew soccer."
— John Hope Bryant [00:41:23]
They argue that Brady's hands-on yet uninformed style contrasts sharply with models where owners hire experts and remain supportive without micromanaging.
Transitioning to NFL topics, Dan brings in Todd Archer to discuss the current state of the Dallas Cowboys, focusing on ongoing contract negotiations involving star player Micah Parsons.
Todd provides an in-depth analysis of Parsons' holdout, comparing it to past negotiations like those of Dak Prescott and CD Lamb.
